hurriedly typed theory:

tharizdun, the chained oblivion, is the power behind the somnovem ascending the cognouza ward into what it is now.

-obann was turned into his punished form by tharizdun's will, which warped his entire body into a horrible mass of tentacles, teeth, and eyes

-two somnovem members specifically using the word 'oblivion' and their sense of terror about it

-tharizdun is rumored to be older than the other gods, and not even really a 'god' like the others are. aeor's dislike of the prime and betrayer gods is clear, but if it isn't truly a god...

-it's also an entity of insanity. while being trapped in a hivemind with people you loathe could absolutely cause the insanity we're seeing among the somnovem members, it's influence would absolutely lead to that as well

-one of its tenants is "Ruin and raze the realms to prepare for the Epoch of Ends" which sounds real similar to that rant the second somnovem member went on about attacking the material plane
