it would be nice having enough money to just be able to like go about and not really have to worry about things

which is like a super cryptic way of saying that like i was thinking how nice it would be if i wanted to travel somewhere in the country to be able to just be like “ok, i’m going to take a week off work and i’ll get there somehow.” and like not worry too much about packing things bc like i can just buy what i need along the way if i need something extra.

basically just to like travel but like without any pressure to like be going anywhere in particular or have any plan

idk, just that post about chicago made me think about how i haven’t left the east coast at all and in theory i could just go anywhere

but like in practice i’d want to optimize for cost and make sure i’m packing everything i need so i need to know how long i’ll be gone and like probably which days well in advance like to book flights in advance when they’re cheap and to take time off work and accommodations wherever i go which is even more money and sets very specifically where i will be each night

but like imagine being able to just get on any form of transportation you want going to wherever without planning and then just like when you get to your destination do whatever you want and if you need something you forgot just buy it there and show up at some hotel and just book it for the night

In the past, people in the Animal Crossing community would make fun of Tom Nook as a sleazy landlord. Since then, he's really rehabilitated his image as this 'heart of gold' businessman (he's the one who puts bells and furniture in trees for you to find! he adopted orphans! he donates to charity!), but New Horizons genuinely paints the most devious version of him.

He's successfully privatized settler colonialism: you pay HIM to move to a "deserted island" (which apparently the oceans in the AC world are just full of) and start a colony that he is directly invested in. At best he's running a weird vacation package scam (you arrive on the island with no money and in debt for "using his services"). At worst, he's using you to set up company towns. For god's sake, he literally has his own fake currency that he forces you to use to pay off your debt. But don't worry, he's repackaged it in a way that definitely doesn't sound like an MLM scam: the Nook Mileage Program!

You're no longer just his tenant or his temporary part-timer, you're his business lackey. The entire tutorial section of the game has you spending actual weeks running around completing tasks and doing hard labor to set up his colony. You're even tasked with preparing his properties and finding buyers for them. No, you aren't a tenant anymore. You work for the landlord. You are directly responsible for finding tenants for him. And he doesn't even fucking pay you. Not for setting up town hall and museum, or his nephew's shop –– which is the ONLY store on the entire island that sells necessities –– or bringing KK Slider to town, or helping populate his town. Not a single cent. No, actually, you have to pay HIM to BUY infrastructure like bridges and stairs and park benches. And all the while, he's telling you're the "resident representative"; you get to call the shots! That the reward is the community's progress. That what you're doing is in everyone's best interest (but most importantly, his).

Since NH's release, people have done a lot of legwork to say that Tom Nook isn't a capitalist while the game shows him at his very worst. He owns the only general store in town. You're forced to use a phone that he modified and branded as his own. Buy Nook-branded furniture and merchandise at the self-serve kiosk in the town hall, a governmental building! There's no conflict of interest here!

But hey, if you're tired of being the landlord/business mogul's goon, you can also find work as a deluxe resort home designer for a company that also pays you in their special company currency that can only be used to buy their products instead of a real salary! Because that's what the Animal Crossing franchise needs! More vacation homes!!!

what I was talking abt earlier. we have fully looped back around and away from feminism, societally, whereas before it was very Feminism 101 to acknowledge that many parts of existing as a woman in a misogynistic society are painful and upsetting. not that being a woman is Inherently Negative in a bubble. but that living on this earth, in the conditions we're living in, is hostile to women. and that gender is a performance. that many of the Staples Of Femininity as accepted by society are things that you have to create and perform and mold artificially and aren't inherent, that COMPLAINING about day to day difficulties of existing as a woman is something that you're allowed to do. acknowledging these basic, again, feminism 101 things, that something tied to womanhood is more time consuming or more expensive or more dangerous Because Of The Problems. does not CREATE the problems. that when women complain about having to perform femininity, they are not, in fact, oppressing themselves. the call does not come from inside the fucking house. saying that you HAVE suffered does not fucking equate that you believe you SHOULD have suffered.

I am pretty fucking sure they are very much aware of pain, and are MORE than aware of the swirling torrent of misogyny and standards of femininity than anybody else. actually. and I am pretty sure someone complaining on tumblr that being a woman means always putting on a performance is going to make someone change their mind about transitioning. also "performing femininity" as a necessity to being treated well as a woman is not fucking NEWS to your Local Trans Woman. I AM PRETTY SURE SHE GETS THE CONCEPT. using trans women as a scapegoat for this braindead perspective on gender politics is spineless, meritless, and pathetic.

“You have?” Speaking in unison seems to freak them both out. Amy scoffs.

“You haven’t?” One of the Rory’s goes bright red immediately. The other seems very interested in one of the many potted plants in the greenhouse they’re currently stuck in. Amy picks up her walkie-talkie and radios the Doctor. “Doctor, if two Rorys are in the same place and they kiss, would that destroy all of time and space?”

“Wait, we aren’t going to-” One of the Rorys protests, the one who is going even more red now.

“Sixty percent chance. Why? Over,” the Doctor answers.

“I’ll take those odds.” She watches expectantly. Blushing Rory shakes his head no, but the other one weighs the fate of the universe against making Amy happy and the outcome of that is always decided before he even begins. He turns back to himself, grabs himself by the shoulders, and pulls himself into a kiss. It… isn’t half bad.

It’s really good, actually. The other Rory’s cheeks are burning when he touches them, but he kisses back eagerly. However this started, it’s clear that it’s as much for Rory, for both of Rory, as for Amy by the time he pushes himself against a wall and sticks his tongue down his own throat.
