Since I've now played through the remake eight times now (this is normal) I felt like I should say a few words on Trials of Mana, or Seiken Densetsu 3/Secret of Mana 2 as we called it back in the day.

First of all, let me say SD3 is one of my top two games of all time (the other being Tales of Phantasia). I have played this game an unholy number of times in my youth. I've had the Trials of Mana remake for a while now, tbh, but have held off on playing it because I didn't want Remake Disappointment. But coming off of three games in a row that ended on a downer (I'm looking at you, Kiseki) and a really rough semester, I finally decided to give it a go.

On the whole, I have to agree with the review that I read before diving in. Which is to say, it's a very faithful adaptation. It has everything that made the original fun and enjoyable. I do kinda wish they'd actually put a bit more effort into additional content (because there is so much they could have done and it would have been amazing), but overall very satisfying to play through.

I will say I am delighted that my fave was turned into a bisexual icon. He and Angela are both very bisexually color coded and my headcanon is that they are bi besties who wingman for each other and chat under the sacred bi tree about mutual crushes. ("He's hot." "He's not the smartest around." "Yeah, but you have to admit those muscles." "You're bringing me around to himbos." vs "Do you ever just look at Riese and think damn." "All the damned time. She could have her wicked way with me any day." "She's Riese, she's too kind for wicked." "I know. T_T" ) Like, if I could find the way to transfer photos from the ps4 without massive amounts of headache and digging, there's one screen cap for when I got an achievement of them in their dark classes still matching and it was like, yes, good.

Hawkeye is still my absolute fave, especially since they animated him with dancer warmups and very bisexually. He has soulful sad eyes. He hits fast. His beaming smile at friends is sweet. He's a treasure hunting thief. He was most definitely sleeping with Eagle He's out for revenge but ends up pitying Belladonna.

And honestly, let me just say that Fairy just kind of going 'oh, well. I don't have much choice, the MC is the only character around' as the way of picking the chosen of Mana still tickles me. Like, not even giving them a choice about things, just there's only one person here and now you're the chosen one.

I do like the voices, both english and japanese. Charlotte is still.... unfortunately translated, but the fact that their actor pool is all from New England is hysterical. Like, the Wiki says Angela has a valley girl accent and I'm over here like, um... I can see how you think that, but she's very definitely still a New Englander. No one says 'on' like that in California, I should know. That's where they put me in speech class.

Overall the game is easier, not just because they give all sorts of tips that I would have loved to know the first time I played. (The first time I played was... well. This is a game that very much needed the manual it no doubt came with, but I was emulating an english translation that didn't come with the manual. And I still persisted in playing.) The two main differences is that now the game lets you powerlevel your way through things and full screen class skills can be avoided. The former was Weird, because I played the original an unholy number of times and had every level and seed acquiring down to an art, and suddenly I'm several levels above where I should be, but it's keeping the skill points for later. That took a lot of adjusting to, but I managed, and now am usually past 38 even before I get to the first mana stone. XD Kinda makes me miss using the second class changes, but oh well. Full screen skills being avoidable is part of a 3d environment, which is honestly nice. It does make beastmen/swordsman and other monsters much, much easier though. It's no longer Kill Immediately and aggressively before they use their tech and shred your party.

The trap door monster in Laurant is much more of a bitch though. Fuck that thing, 3d made it so much worse.

The post game content is a bit monotonous, but not terrible. What I wish they'd done more with is the personal quests and at least a bit more interaction between certain party arrangements. Mainly along the shared quest lines. The all girl/all boy party was a fun touch, but I'd I wish they'd even done a bit more with that. Just more interaction with the characters, since that's half the charm of the game was who is and who isn't in your party. Writing didn't seem to be the remake crew's strong point though. Honestly, being faithful to the original is probably way more than enough. It's just wishful that we could have gotten a little bit more than just a little bit extra.

The new techs and new game plus does make replaying through faster, which is sometimes great when you just want to play with combinations. They also let you reset your class with specific items, which is a fantastic addition. I don't use it much, but being reminded why Riese's light/light class had the worst summon, it was nice to be able to switch her around. I also like that you can change the outfits regardless of class, which is great when Angela's dark/dark class was honestly clashing terribly on top of being a bikini armor. Now when I want to use Ancient, I just switch to her more reasonable outfits.

Kevin and Duran getting boob armor for their dark ultimate class was amazing though. Hawkeye not having revealing outfits also gives way to lots of gender headcanons. I also now have a lot of polycule headcanons, because they absolutely are. Except Charlotte. She can cuddle, but she needs to grow mentally 50 years. Then she can be the hot half elf who hits up her silver foxes/cougars, but she does not act her age in the slightest and looks about ten so she's waiting until she does some growing.

Being able to fight the black rabite on all paths rather than only available for Duran/Angela main is great too. I mean, it's still traumatic in a deeply unhinged way, but again, the game is easier in the remake. That includes superboss. Though I did not appreciate being asked twice each time I go to fight it if I'm sure I want to fight it. Like, fuck you game. I've already got the psychological trauma of the original.

(It does make me miss my irc heyday, when I had my bot named BlackRabite and would occasionally switch over just to make it bounce.)

Rabites are still the Most Monster of all time. I love them. Even when they're murdering me or I'm murdering them. You can't actually kill the black rabite. It just bounces away when it's done messing with you.

Anyway, I've played through most of the classes now, though I think I'm still missing one of each for Riese/Duran/Charlotte. I actually did a no healer run this time, which was interesting. Way easier in this version, especially with certain shared techs, but it's nice to not have to plan a party on needing a healer. I'd probably have all the classes by now if I didn't like, use Hawkeye for everything, but hey. He's a fave. I did a Hawkeye-less run, of course, but still. He's going to be in my party the majority of the time, because I love my bisexual thief. (They made his ultimate class change item the Loyal sphere, which also hits mine and Riese's Loyality kink, just as she hits his kindness kink and yeah, I've got a lot of headcanons about Riese accepting her bisexual thief boyfriend and outside game canon incest is just going to happen. Sorry, square, you made that final scene of Eagle saying the memories they had together were his most precious treasure after you've made a prequel game I didn't play that made Hawkeye Flamekhan's grandson. I found this out through wikipedia (and will absolutely be checking out how to emulate gba now, because Hawkeye's mom sounds Badass) and only after you made me ship it, so now it's just Flamekhan who gets ulcers when he finds out with Jessica as a supportive sister-in-law because only he knows he disowned his badass daughter. He only has himself to blame, while Ignorance is gonna stay blissful. And while Jessica and Hawkeye are distancing themselves from the old man because they think he's being homophobic, Jessica takes over Nevarl. As she should. Queen of Thieves we all deserve.

(Falcon in the thereafter may have had a few ulcers herself, but then decided, fuck it. Her father was the one who said he didn't have a daughter first, so she doesn't have a father. She's got a cute son-in-law now instead of step brother and will have a cute amazon princess daughter-in-law soon, so her son is obviously doing well.)

I did warn you I have thought A Lot about this. XD

The one thing I kinda wish didn't carry over is the total play time, because I do really not need to know how many hours I spend on this game. But well, no one else needs to know. XD I also kind of wish the final class was more of a combination like it promised than just a few extra stats, but hey.

Anyway, in terms of a remake, I do highly recommend it. I enjoyed it greatly, and it's very New England english cast, which most people may or may not necessarily realize that all of them are from there, but those were the vowels of my people. Also, I'm more forgiving of Charlotte's manner of speaking now, because she's hilariously also strongly from New England.

Listen, when you're put in speech classes and told your accent is terrible as a child, it's only natural to turn to Spite. That's just how it is. XD

On a final note, they animated the merchants in the most unhinged manner possible, and I adore it. It's absolute madness. They went there and it's glorious.

Hi! I took a break from the college art finals prep and I saw your retro filter post. I don't work in Clip Studio Paint, however I'm curious, what do retro filters do? I can tell there's a visual difference, but I can't figure out what the filter did. Also, I'm so excited for you that some of your writing blocks have ebbed away!

I’m not entirely sure either, lol, I don't understand a lot of the fancy stuff (took me a hot minute to even figure out how to get these filters to work) but here's the folders for the specific filters. I only really understand the blurs and opacity bits. (It's embarrassing how long it took me to realize what opacity was) Blending modes, flattening images- all that stuff has me like, "Huh???"

persona. i hate to agree with persona fans, but we'll def be getting huge persona news today. considering its the 25th anniversary of the series, and alot of people have been saying it, we'll definitely get persona ports for switch. primarily of 3-5, but i think they'll port p3 portable & p4 golden onto switch natively. but this is gonna be controversal; persona 5 royal will get the cloud treatment on switch. knowing its a huge ps4/5 rpg, and companies wanna push their highest selling series on switch, i have full confidence that persona 5 royal will be cloud edition only (unless nintendo has a new beefed up switch planned for the next 12 months). im sure we'll get persona switch news tomorrow

Plant Saga I swear this is probably the most eventful part of my life.

Hubert the monstera has many new leaves, one successfully became a split leaf but he’s got a ways to go. He’s too small now to create completely split leaves. I think maybe next year...

- I got Lorenz a rose gold planter and it made him more bougie. NICE. I don’t know if anyone cares about mini rose plant care but he did get infected by spider mites because of course he freakin did. I mixed dish soap and water and sprayed him once a week and they disappeared. Every day I have to monitor him for signs of stress and any other possible problems. I think he’s the most high-maintenance plant I currently have and it is very fitting lool.

- Rokurou the Venus Fly Trap keeps eating things. Very typical. I saw him catch a moth that nearly escaped with half of its body still caught in the trap. It was gruesome but I was really psyched to see him catch something other than ants. He is so happy now he even created a flower bud which I had to unfortunately destroy before it bloomed. It really weakens the plant to let it produce flowers. :( Apparently they’re pretty boring and smell bad anyway loool. I need to get him a planter too... - Say hello to Riki the parlor palm! I was trying to think of which character was pointy and tropical. This is a pretty easy plant to care for, I just water him once a week.

My next goal is to get my hands on a pothos! Time to think about names...

Projects Last month I began planning out a complete comic series about Rokurou and Eizen. Listen... I am very enthusiastic about their bromance. I work on it every day for a little bit before bed. You can say I was inspired to do this because of the amount of Webtoons I’ve been reading. If they let us post fanart maybe I would have given it a shot haha. Sadly, my only usable social media platforms are not comic-friendly but it’s alright. Based on my progress I’m happy to say that I will be finishing a comic series for once (I’m 95% done). And I never finish anything! I want to launch this project in two weeks but I’ve told myself that I must finish all of my comic pages before I post a single thing. Soon. - I don’t think I’ve shared visuals of what I do at the stationery company I work at. We occasionally get orders for chalkboard bar menus for wedding receptions. I’ll show you the one I illustrated for the client of their pets! I actually met the bride and groom that day (it was also my birthday) and they thanked me like 1000 times and even gave me a huge tip. T_T

Otherwise, my duties include laser cutting and wedding assembly! I would love if this were a full-time job like the old days... - The bakery... I am bros with the cafe owner’s husband. He helps out on weekends and we have synergy. He is very... DAD. For some reason he likes to give me a new life lesson every week I see him. The Berseria Journey (I will be vague in my commentary) Made a new friend thanks to Berseria! Crying over fics really do bring people together 🥺.

After playing for 6 and a half months, we finally beat the main story... To be fair, we went around the world doing all side quests and optional content. My favorite mini-game was Character Cards!

My roomie and I play together so during the finale she took on the “short one” as Velvet - while I, playing as Rokurou, had an EPIC one-on-one sword fight with the “tall one”. Dodging attacks and countering with Vengeful Stance, the delicious stun attacks. MMM! It was so good. Finished it off with beautiful lvl 3 mystic. *chef kiss*

Uhhhhhh I need time to process that ending because so much was happening in the last 10 minutes of the game. I am still kind of confused but you know what, that’s okay. Maybe my brain will catch up when I do post-game activities.

So today I was complaining to the ether about how I can’t seem to find a way to play Resident Evil Village to save myself. I can’t afford to buy it. The internet cafes I’ve asked around don’t have it because they’re actually waiting for a pirated version of it to come around, yes they’ve openly told me that. The one game station shop around that has a PS4 playroom only has two (2) copies of Village and I’ve been going there every day of this past week, and both copies are always rented out. Like I just wanna play as and torture Ethan Winters, on a platform that can actually carry the game instead of my 2015 mediocre laptop, is that too much to ask?

However! If today had been a day where I’d found a way to play the game, I would’ve gone non-stop until god knows what unholy hour, and I would’ve missed the opportunity to meet with a potential future boss. Like, she’d probably have no issue meeting me tomorrow if I’d said I was busy, but I did meet with her today and I already prepared and sent a resume. We’ll meet tomorrow morning so she can start showing me the ropes and yeah, part of my job will include actually teaching children some music stuff. It’ll be part time but honestly after the shock I’ve had of the nine-hour six-day standing up for minimum wage, I can afford to live on a tight budget while doing a job that I like even if it means I won’t be able to buy Village for idek how long T_T

I like to think Solas wakes up from time to time to make sure Elluin is sleeping well and has no nightmares and she isn't walking about Skyhold, unable to sleep. I think this is extremely soft because Elluin becomes more important to him than the Fade. The only place he felt safe.

Games: Expectations vs. Reality

As a kid I used to love gaming so much that I would stay up until two am and then pass out on my bed. Since I have been growing up these few past years, I noticed that various people play it just for the hype and not for the emotions, story line and the development itself. 

I honestly don’t understand because since I love video games, I have always been one to appreciate them.

For example, when The Last Of Us came out to PS4 I was really excited because it looked really cool and I knew I would have a good time playing it.

Couple months past and I’m at the point to where I just replay the game ONLY BECAUSE I have grown with the characters, I love the scenery and the aesthetic of the various places you roam through. I fell in love with ellie because I saw myself in her to a point.

Same thing happened when The Last Of Us Pt. 2 came out, honestly i started tearing up because I was ready to dive back into this world where I felt like I belonged. I remember I started rambling to my father about how I was excited, the storyline, and how much they aged and wondering what was different or what changed. 

I will say it again.. I fell in love with Ellie. I really enjoyed the games and I was connecting with all the characters except for one... T_T  but anyway summing it up these two video games are something I cherish. 

THEN AGAIN you have to think about it. People (most) had very high expectations for the prt. 2 but stuff happens.. it may have been rushed and all the other stuff but the reality part is that it is just a game. 

Yeah, we have expectations but not everything will live up to it.

Overall what i’m trying to say is that it is a good game either way you look at it, we still have to live our lives and even though I’m a hardcore fan of this series.... I can how and why other people have their opinions.

At the end of the day, you can't deny that these video games teach you lessons and makes you go on a mental and emotional journey while playing...

So I don’t know if it’s me but the Clown’s music doesn’t come up half the time I face him.

Having to throw a pallet down from half a map away because the Killer can hit you from half a map away, is really tiresome. I get that it’s a mix of de-sync and hitboxes but it’s annoying.

Elodie is the only Survivor who doesn’t look dumb planking vertically like everyone else.

There are way too many pallets on the reworked The Game map. I didn’t realize it until I got a match as Spirit and omg it was hell. I got a message from one of the Survivors who kicked my ass, apologizing for how effed the pallets are. I told them I broke 15 pallets and still saw pallets that hadn’t been thrown down yet! And then the fucking breakable walls everywhere! OMG! T_T

I got to do the Heal Tech a few times recently and it was great! So great that a Clown accused me of hacking because he didn’t know that if the downed Survivor is locked into the Healing animation with another Survivor, they can’t be picked up by the Killer. This then forces the Killer to swing and Injure someone, which gives the downed person time to begin crawling out while they have to wipe their weapon. And if everyone times it right, they can get a downed Survivor out with everyone else.

So there’s all these effed up boulders on the MacMillian maps. I walked all the way up one and just stood there teabagging at everyone who came by, and then taught a Clown how to get up them as well. It was hilarious watching everyone take turns.

Today was the day for Freddy. 9 of them in 4 hours and one of them I faced twice.

Also, it’s nice to get confirmation that the whole community is aware of how OP Freddy is when a Freddy wigs out after you manage a 4-man Escape against him. He picks the person who got the highest points(Me) and claims, ‘swf hackers’. ‘???’ ‘freddy=win u hacking’. Dude went in expecting to get a 4K because he chose to play as Freddy. Just because Freddy is Stretch Armstrong and can land hits from half a map away, doesn’t mean you’re skilled. Also, only he and I were on PS4. The other players were from other platforms. idk if they were swf but they sure as hell didn’t play like it.

Like, if I get slaughtered by a Nurse who is good, I’m not bitching about it, because Nurse is HARD. There’s so much involved in getting her down that less than 5% of the whole community can actually play her well. A Good Nurse = Death automatically, and I understand this. I’m also not salty about it because it takes skill and time. Freddy does not require skill when his lunge is half a map long.

Got some great matches against the same Plague in a row. I was playing different Survivors with different builds each time and I think I confused her.

So many Nurses these past 2 days. wtf

I got a Wraith who was bugged so his red stain didn’t disappear when invisible. So we kept running when we saw him coming from across the map and after the game I messaged him to tell him what had happened. I hope that gets fixed. He’s already a weak af Killer to begin with.

Supposedly the hitbox issue was taken care of but all the games I had yesterday were a damn mess of getting hit from so far away. idk

Legit did this whole build for one purpose. I managed that purpose. I’m so proud of myself, though how it lasted that long idk.

I am a stubborn brute. Bought that skirt. I had like 12K Iri Shards and didn’t think a new Chapter would come soon so I legit bought cosmetics. I really like the skirt because it goes with the red/orange top;

I had to open a door as Bill. I finally managed to record me getting an Unbreakable into an Adrenaline. I’m so fucking happy.

He only got that one kill because he face camped the person in order to get it. It was pretty fucking pathetic tbh. He then did it with me but tried to hide against the wall to make it seem like he wasn’t camping.

I like how Fixated looks when I have this skirt on. I just glide everywhere! ^-^ Also... fun game.

Any games you have multiple copies of? Oh yes.. I have two copies of each DMC game, one for console and the other for PC. I also have both a digital and a physical copy of KH 3. (Had to have that collector’s edition lmao) Then there’s Okami which I have for PS 2 as well as PS 3 but i’ve also been eyeing not only the PS 4 version but the PC one as well (look, i really love this game don’t judge).

Most regrettable purchase? Final Fantasy X remaster for PS4. I bought it because I never got to experience these games back when they first came out and from what I’ve heard X is among the best FF’s ever made so I figured why not! Let’s see what the hype is about since i adored XV and Type-0 when i played them. Sadly that gameplay just was not for me and it quickly started to feel like a chore to play. Which is a shame because I was really starting to get invested in the story! Still I regretted that I decided it’d be better to give it to someone else that have it collecting dust on my shelf.

If it was a requirement to get a game related tattoo, what would you pick? I’ve actually been thinking about getting an Okami themed tattoo for years now! (SHOCKING i know lmao) It’d be amazing to have a portrait of Ammy across from shoulder to elbow. And it would HAVE to be in that same sumi-e art style.

What is your gaming set up? The only thing close to a setup i have is my three consoles neatly placed next to each other (PS 2, 3 and 4). I don’t really have anything special set up for my PC. Only dual monitors.

A sequel that you would die for them to make? You know what, if you can’t guess this by now, I don’t even know what to tell you lmao! (AND NO, OKAMIDEN DOESN’T COUNT) To keep things a little more interesting I’m gonna say Silent Hill. I love the original games and It’s about time this series saw the light of day again with a proper, good sequel. Unfortunately as long as it’s in Konami’s hands I don’t see that happening any time soon.. T_T

Do you like competitive games? To some extent yes, as long as I find the game enjoyable to play. I’m not too crazy about sports overall (like FIFA) but I will always be up for some racing. I used to play Rocket League quite a bit too some time back (can’t say i’m any good at it though lmao). Still, I’ll always prefer co-op to competitive given the choice.

BUT! To the heart of the issue!

CAN you play Dragon Age: Inquisition without first playing Origins and it’s sequel? Yeah. Should you? Also yeah, as long as you’re the kind of person who replays games and rereads books. I think Inquisition is actually an interesting starting point for the series, if you’re new to it - BUT you will appreciate it more if you’ve played the others.

I think you’d be fine to play Inquisition, then when you have time and ability/access, play the other two. I can pretty much guarantee that playing the other two will make you want to REplay Inquisition though, and you’ll get a lot more out of it the second time around.
