My night was going so wonderfully.
Tumblr media
The headshot of this cover is just PAINFUL. They're actually acknowledging each other, they're the only ones on a cover to do that. And it's the prominent detail that Mizi looks horrified staring at Sua, even though they're clutching each other so... like they can't let go, while Sua looks reverent in the lane of that gaze, even blushing, slightly, savoring the moment. This also looks like their kiss scene...
To me, she looks just the same as the day she died because I think this cover is Sua's haunting of Mizi, because Sua's singing is just that, haunting and distant the longer she sings, she's fading out, but so gently despite its gruesomeness. And Mizi is grieving.
She's as angelic as she is in Mizi's memories..
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But there's a cruelty to this because Mizi will never forget what she saw in round 1, that's why seeing Sua over and over and over again terrifies her, hence why the tone of this song is SO dark, especially in the second half when they're coming to a close, they get desperate to keep each other close, and there is a certain, but familiar ignorance to Sua's presence as if she can't see Mizi's pain even though Mizi is crying right in front of her--childish egos, Sua becomes a more honest character after her death, and in more expressive formats like this, and I like how she takes on that position in this song, the taker. (Like Till, he wanted a security blanket out of Mizi; Sua is similar in that sense.) as she takes and wants from Mizi for her own sanity.
And this newest illustration, oh my god. EXPRESSES THIS IDEA PERFECTLY, Sua looks so utterly distant, ghostly, dead.
Tumblr media
In contrast to Ivan and Till's cure, Mizi and Sua's cure is more of a duet, and they switch places often. Mizi starts the song, she ends the song (just like in my clematis), and Sua supports it. Whereas Ivan and Till take turns leading and harmonizing, Mizi and Sua both participate.
And I believe they're interacting? Ivan and Till's cure wasn't a message to each other, something a lot more complicated than that--but Mizi and Sua transition frequently and it feels like they're singing to each other, It's more intimate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mizi - Allow me, to the tips of your finger
Allow me, to the ends of your feet
Dissolve me in your gaze
I don't want to let you go.
Sua - Please, leave me scars
Please, hurt me so that not a singly drop of me remains
Let me drown in you.
(The backing vocals mean so much to me, it's like a choir(?))
Mizi - Until these falling stars
Are buried in the blur of time
On your icy lips
Read my soul, yes, my soul
It wasn't spontaneous for the sake of it either, because this is a call-and-response
Sua - Even if your cold words
Carve scars beneath my eyes
May they linger on your tongue
You can break me apart
Mizi - Notice my pain
And mend me right now
To quiet my fears
I'll drown in you
-
Mizi is directly asking Sua, or the version of her she can't forget, to stay with her, calm her like she used to, as she wishes to have remained in the dark, to drown in her, or to have just not been left alone and, because even now Sua's death is not something she can accept, the portrayal of her feelings as she expresses her pain and desire to keep Sua close, even the false presence of her "On your icy lips" and "notice my pain and mend me right now" even though It's terrifying her, she doesn't want to let go.
Sua acknowledges Mizi's pain, and their shared pains after she died for her, the blame and the betrayal. Interestingly, Sua takes on the metaphorically self-destructive lyrics, Sua lives in fear, anxiety, and utter gloominess, she didn't want to be hurt by Mizi in the literal sense, but she would've rather been warmed in Mizi's soft light, her false hope and optimism, to be destroyed and to destroy Mizi's hope, even dying as the penalty of their love was far better.
Then Sua goes on to sing through the perspective of Mizi and her loneliness and grief after losing her with perfect clarity, it takes me back to the comic where Ivan scolded Sua about her plan, saying that she'd be nothing more than a trauma to Mizi after everything is said and done, she got upset at Ivan because she knew that, was devastated by the fact that she would be a burden just as she always feared, but then, what's a life without Mizi by her side, her only safety net? Her every reason for living?
This song displays their deep love and devotion, they sound melancholic but even in these horrific circumstances, Mizi's pain and hesitance, they don't drown each other out, they move together in perfect harmony just like they always do, in this way, it also feels like an apology of sorts from both sides before the bitter end, and a final goodbye.
AND THEN AT THE END WITH THE PERFECT SYNCHRONIZING OF THEIR VOICES ARGHH
And a new Sua illustration for the occasion 😭💔 (I'm gonna catch you soon Vivinos just wait.)

According to the information released about the segyein, Guardian Shine respects Mizi's choice in whether or not she wants to participate in Alien Stage. Looking at this tidbit again, new questions popped up for me. More specifically — one question.
Why didn't Sua convince Mizi not to participate?
Alright let's back up a bit.
What do we know about Alien Stage and its relationship with the Anakt Garden kids?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
From the magazine interview and old stream commentary, we know they've been brainwashed from childhood to believe participation in Alien Stage is an honor. They're fully aware that losing means death, but that itself is taught to be yet another privilege.
Mizi vs Sua, Ivan, and Till
It's generally accepted that among our cast, Mizi is the most sheltered one — the one shielded the most from the horrific side of the post-alien apocalypse world, whereas due to the abuse from their respective guardians, Sua, Ivan, and Till do not have such a rosy outlook.
Sua and Ivan in particular appear to be jaded and much more in tune with their place in this system. So if they didn't buy into the propaganda, if they were fully aware of the implications of death and the worthlessness of receiving such an "honor" on stage, why didn't they convince Mizi to step out of it?
Ivan's reason is easy — simply, why would he?
But Sua? Why... wouldn't she? Surely she would want Mizi to avoid Alien Stage at all costs, when she is not as naive as to believe they'd be able to tie all the way to the finals?
Tumblr media
Let's take another look at Sua's interview responses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sua and Mizi both share a dream, and in a world as small and enclosed as theirs, that dream is enough to be their everything.
Mizi may have had a chance to opt out of AS, but Sua doesn't. Her guardian, Nigeh, has always intended for her to participate, going as far as to build up her fanbase before Season 50 even started to tip the odds in favor of her victory. Sua has been prepared her whole life for Alien Stage, whether it ends in her victory, or her death.
She goes in knowing her life will likely end there.
Perhaps it was to indulge in the one selfishness of her short life — in the dream she and Mizi cherished above all.
Perhaps it was because she has absolute, unshakable confidence in Mizi taking the throne of Season 50 for herself.
Perhaps it was because a small part of her believed in Mizi's optimism — that they really can make it to the top together.
I think all of these possibilities are valid interpretations of what may have gone on inside Sua.
But here's a thought —
Tumblr media
Sua, like Mizi, was unfamiliar with the true nature of death.
Sua's loss was Mizi's first, intimate encounter with death. Death was supposed to be a glorious thing, a blessed thing on Alien Stage.
It is not.
It's gruesome, and ugly, and she can still feel the hot blood splatter on her.
Anakt Garden is toted as a kindergarten that can provide your pet-humans with the perfect environment to thrive, looking after your pet-human's health not only physically, but psychologically!
Sua, like Mizi, has been raised in such a curated environment. Even under Nigeh's care, she was simply one of many dolled up pet-humans. Whether she was taking lessons in Anakt Garden, or left to sit in the corner in her ill-fitting doll outfit, we have not seen any opportunities for Sua to come in contact with "death." (Ivan, on the other hand, came from the slums. He may be the only one of the four who was intimately acquainted with death.)
Hence, I propose — Mizi was not the only one who went in without actually grasping the concept. Perhaps Sua too, while having an inkling of what's to come, did not truly understand what death entails either.
(But yeah possibility number 1263 why Sua didn't tell Mizi not to do the murder survival show)

Edit 10.02.24 — Debunked by this comic

ALNST | MIZISUA 🎧
Tumblr media
It’s so amazing that every little detail makes a difference
Their voices are so gentle here, and the way Mizi cradles Sua’s face is so touching - it’s almost like she’s desperately trying to save her and stop the bleeding, just to spend more time with her, even on the brink of death. Pleading for Sua to stay alive as she dies right before her eyes.
While Sua’s voice is calm, Mizi’s is desperate in a way, as if she’s trying to hold the tears in but failing. Although both of them sing with raw emotions, Mizi’s emphasize this idea: her tone of voice is so much higher than Sua’s.
- Sua maintains a constant tone of voice and it almost blends in with the soundtrack to show she’s dying.
- Mizi has a variation during the whole video, going from a higher to a lower pitch, illustrating her rollercoaster of emotions
Also, the phrase “Sick of these nights to come/To be engulfed in silence” is so fitting for them, as Mizi constantly has nightmares or is tormented by her memories with Sua, spending her nights crying alone.
Tumblr media
And the way Sua just looks at her with a calm expression, holding onto her too but with a tired gaze like she already accepted her fate 😭 too much for my heart
However, while Mizi’s hand is firm in place and not letting go, Sua’s looks like it’s falling down, as if she’s trying to cling on to life, or just trying to memorize her face before she takes her final breath.
Oh, and if you think about Mizi’s emotions upon seeing Sua slowly dying and her inability to do anything to change the course of fate.. help
The way they look at each other is so beautiful, you can see in both of them that their eyes are filled with love and admiration for the other.
In the original version of Cure, the video approached an idea of an unrequited love or even the desire to be recognized by the other, hence the need for a higher tone of voice. In MiziSua’s, there’s no need for that as their feelings are reciprocated: the volume is lower, and they are trapped in their own bubble, their own little world away from others. Only their love exists at the moment, and that’s simply beautiful.
Also, if you think about their performance in “My Clematis”, of singing together in a genuine way with no attempts of outdoing the other, Mizi is probably devastated to see she was achieved victory while Sua paid the price. You can see her horrified gaze and sense how guilty, desperate and even confused she feels.
Tumblr media
Sua definitely knew something; she knew what would happen to those who got the lower score, evidenced by the tricks of sweat dripping down and her exhaustion. The way she looks at her moments before her death shows the admiration she holds for Mizi, but it can even demonstrate her wish to save her, thankful it was herself and not Mizi.
Tumblr media
Mizi had a mindset of just singing with her companion, so she probably didn’t even know what should happen, hence the way she felt even more shocked at Sua’s sudden death.
Tumblr media
I love how those simple things can tell us so much about them. Especially the sentence “With our story/Lost in forever’s embrace”, symbolizing how they are two people who had to say goodbye.
(Got too excited and made a bit of an analysis 💀)

Ok more alnst rambles.
I think my favorite interpretation of both Sua and Ivan's deaths is that their self-sacrifice was less about saving their loved ones than it was that they themselves could not live without Mizi/Till. Like this belief that yes, we're choosing our loved ones over our own lives, but also with the belief that Mizi/Till would be able to live past their (Sua/Ivan) deaths.
But for both Sua and Ivan, they could not find any reason to live if Mizi/Till were to die instead in their rounds. Both are absolutely obsessed with their partners - their entire reason for living revolves around Mizi/Till, bc for both Sua and Ivan, their lives were empty husks until they met them.
Ivan calls Sua out for being a self-sacrificing idiot, calling her selfish bc it'll only leave Mizi traumatized over her death. According to him, her choosing to die was not out of love for Mizi, it was a purely selfish choice bc Sua cannot live without Mizi. But in the end, Ivan is the exact same.
So dying for their loved ones? Easy. But ask them to live with their loved ones' deaths? Over their dead bodies.
