stop asking me to stay — r. cameron
Tumblr media
❝ please don't fall apart i can't face your breaking heart i'm trying to be brave stop asking me to stay ❞
pairing: bf!rafe x fem!reader
context: you and rafe have been dating for seven months, and while the relationship started it out well, as soon as the honeymoon phase ended (about 3 months in), everything went to shit. you've been trying to put up with it, but tonight, you realize you've had enough.
words: 1.4k+
warnings: toxic relationship, cocaine use, alcohol use, attachment issues, might make you cry, no happy ending, angst asf
you walk out into the backyard full of girls in swimsuits and guys in swim trunks with drinks in hand, strobes of light flashing around, and music blasting, hoping to find your dear boyfriend who had disappeared on you. again.
god, how much longer did he think you were gonna put up with this?
you look around, and head for topper when you spot him. he was playing pong against kelce and some of their other golf buddies.
"top," you call out to him when you walk up to the table to join them.
"hey, y/n," he greets you, as he readies his hand to shoot a ball. he does, and it lands in one of the cups, causing the surrounding guys and girls to erupt in cheers. "what's up?"
"have you seen rafe?" you ask him.
"nah, not lately," he shook his head at you, shooting his other ball.
he misses that one.
you snap your head towards kelce. "kelce?"
"last i saw him he was cutting a line in the living room upstairs, y/n," he shrugs, and you groan, rolling your eyes.
of course he was. fucking fantastic.
you don't even say another word to either of them before you walk away and head back towards the house. you manage your way through the crowd just fine and scurry up the stairs to the second floor.
just as kelce described, you find rafe seated on a couch in the living room surrounded by some guys and girls—one who was a little too close to him for your liking—cutting a line of coke with his black card.
"rafe," you say his name, and his head snaps up at the sound of your voice, his dark blue eyes meeting yours.
he immediately stands up, pretending as if you didn't just see him cutting the line of coke with his card, shaking off the girl draped over his arm in the process. "y/n."
"can you take me home?" you ask, pulling your eyes away from his. you just couldn't stand to look in them anymore. "i have that interview with the admissions officer from yale tomorrow."
"yeah," he nods, rounding the coffee table to approach you. "whatever you want, baby."
everyone else eyes the two of you carefully, the girl previously draped over rafe giving you the stink eye. no one could ever pull rafe away from the coke faster than you.
when he stops to stand in front of you to block your view of the "friends" he left snorting lines of coke, you look up at him through your lashes, not knowing what to think.
"i've been looking for you for an hour," you say, and he sighs.
"i'm sorry," he replied—you were sick of hearing that though. it was the same half-assed apology every time. and yet, nothing ever changed.
you'd probably go through this exact thing again next weekend when he drags you to some other party.
"save it," you say, catching him off guard.
he knew you didn't like it when did coke, but you never stopped him from apologizing before.
"just take me home," you turn around and walk away from him, making your way back downstairs.
he follows closely behind you, but falls behind a little when you quickly course your way through the crowd on the first floor and he struggles to do the same.
"y/n, wait up," he jogs to catch up to you when you both step outside, but you just quicken your pace towards his car. "babe!"
you hear him call after you, and since his legs are much longer than yours, he manages to catch up and walk in front of you, stopping you in your tracks.
"can you just stop for a second?" he asks, placing both of his hands on either of your arms to make you look at him. "what's wrong?"
"do you even have to ask?"
he sighs, and drops his hands from your arms. "okay, so i snorted a line. what's the big deal?"
"was it just a line, rafe?" you asked, knowing he could never just stop at one.
"so maybe it was two or three," he admits with a shrug. "but what's the big deal? we're at a party, y/n. we came here to have fun!"
"you think this is fun?" you ask him, the pent up anger caused by the way he's been acting the last few months rising to the surface. "it is not fun for me to come with you to these parties only to find you've abandoned me after i go to the bathroom to go snort lines of coke, rafe! let alone find some girl draped all over you and you don't even seem to care!"
"oh for fuck's sake, it's not like i'm sneaking off to fuck them, y/n!" he defended. "they do that shit on their own. what do you expect me to do about that?"
"uh, i don't know, tell them to fuck off? to get off you? to stop? to move?" you say, stating several different things he could have said to them.
he knows your right, but as always, he refused to back down.
"god, are you seriously bitching about this?" his voice was louder know, the adrenaline from the coke clouding his judgment and riling him up. "wait- no, that's-"
he immediately realized what he just said to you, and though he wanted to take it back—and even tried to—it was too late.
"you know what? just go back inside, rafe," you shrug, finally giving up.
there was no use fighting back anymore because you were never gonna get through to him. not when he was like this—coked out of his mind.
"go back to your coke buddies, go back to whatever girl decides to throw herself onto you next, and just forget about me," you tell him. "i'm done."
his coke-induced state of mind seems to fade completely when he hears those two words come out of your mouth.
"what?" his voice was much quieter now, and delicate. something not usual for rafe.
"you heard me," you said, looking him in the eyes. "i can't keep doing this, rafe."
"no, no, no, no, no," he shakes his head frantically, panic clearly building up in him at the thought of losing you. he closes the distance between the two of you and takes your hands in his. "i promise i'll do better, baby. i'll change. i love you."
as much as you wanted to give in and believe him, you knew that your relationship had run its course. he did love you—you never doubted that. but it shouldn't have to be this hard. enough was enough.
you needed to do what was best for you, and this just wasn't it anymore. as much as you loved him, you knew this was the best thing for you. no matter how badly it broke your heart, you had to walk away.
"not enough to choose me," you shook your head, tears threatening to well up in your eyes. "you give in every time."
he drops your hands from his, his demeanor changing again. now, he looked furious. cold. meaner.
"well, i'm sorry i'm not fucking perfect like you!" his voice was full of venom. the rafe cameron you fell in love with was gone. "you know what? just do what you want, y/n. go run off to yale and find some perfectly polished guy! see if i care."
his eyes filled with disgust as he trailed them over you, a scoff leaving his mouth, "i should've just fucked all those other girls. at least they know how to have fun."
while you knew he wouldn't take your words well, you never expected him to be so cruel. but then again, wasn't it always this way? when he was off of it, you never really knew what to expect.
another reason why you had to walk away. it wasn't worth all the exhaustion going back and forth with him. he wasn't worth it anymore.
"go ahead," you say, trying your hardest to keep a solid front. no way you were going to give him the satisfaction of seeing you break.
he rolled his eyes. "find your own way home, bitch," he spat, bumping your shoulder as he walked back towards the house.
the second you knew he could no longer see you, you break.
the rafe you knew was gone.

Tumblr media
"Does this outfit look okay?" Y/N asked her friend as she checked herself out in the mirror
A taller brunette sitting on her bed looked up from her book. She put her book down walking up to the mirror "You look great, I promise. Don't worry, I know he'll say yes" her friend assured her.
"What if he doesn't?" Y/N questioned nervously, her heart had been racing all morning. Today she was going to ask out Sirius Black, they aren't the closest friends but they talk a few times a week. She's had the biggest crush on him since they first met first year in defense against the dark arts.
"Then it's his loss, dear." She said as she fixed the collar of Y/n's shirt. "Now c'mon, Mcgonagall will kill us if we're late again." Y/N grabbed her bag and headed out the door behind her friend.
She had put off doing this for so long because she was scared he wouldn't like her back. Sirius was notorious for only dating the most popular girls in school. Y/N wasn't popular but she was known around school. She didn't come from money and she didn't like how people were treated differently because of their social status. She tried her best to treat everyone the same way no matter what.
6th year is almost over and she can't keep waiting for him to say something. She has to get over her fears and go for it, she won't let the fear control her anymore.
-
She had been waiting all day for this moment, she and Sirius only shared one class. Potions, the last class of the day. She had been on edge all-day hundreds of scenarios playing in her head, everything that could go wrong. Pushing all those nerves down, she walked into the classroom. A few students were scattered around the class, she tried to get there as early as she could. Much to her surprise, the Marauders were already in the classroom.
They were normally some of the last people to show up, She wasn't sure why they were there so early. She walked over to her table and sat her bag down. She hesitated walking over to him, everything in her said don't do it. She argued with the voice in her head, she had to do it now or it would never happen.
She took a deep breath before heading toward their table, keeping her head high as she was afraid if she looked down she would trip. The four boys were in a conversation it must've not been that important because once she arrived at the table all their attention was on her. It was nerve-racking but she kept a smile on her face trying to act as natural as possible.
"Hey Y/N/N, how are you today?" Remus asked
"I'm doing just fine, thanks" she smiled at the boy, she really wanted to get this over with
"Sirius?" She asked
"Yes?" The longer-haired boy looked up from the paper he was doodling on, a small smile played across his lips.
Oh my, he's beautiful she thought to herself, shaking that thought from her head she continued the conversation
"Can I talk to you for a sec?" her voice steady
"Um sure, love" he hesitated at first, he stood from his stool and followed her to a more quiet part of the class
The remaining boys gave each other questioning looks. Anytime Sirius ever spoke to Y/N the other boys were around so it was odd for them to be on their own.
The two stood there in silence for what felt like an eternity, just looking at each other. Y/N's mind had gone blank, she didn't think she'd get this far.
"Did you need something?" Sirius asked pulling her out of her trance
"Huh? OH, yeah" She fidgeted with her ring as she prepared herself for what she was about to say. "I was wondering, would you like to go out this weekend... like a date" she made it through without stuttering, an awkward smile on her face poorly masking her nerves
Sirius' eyes slightly widened, he didn't expect Y/N to be this straightforward.
Y/N's heart was racing in her ears as she waited for his response. Her smile faded quickly as he spoke
"Y/N I'm sorry, but we're just friends. I hope I didn't lead you to believe differently. I'm sorry" he said with a pitied look
Her heart broke, the worst thing that could happen just happened. She had to get out of this situation fast.
"Oh, don't worry about it. I get it, sorry to bother you." She walked off before he could speak again
James noticed her change in body language as she went back to her table. Sirius rejoined the boys and didn't say anything about what happened, he just went back to scribbling on his paper.
-
Later that night at dinner, the boys were in their usual seats eating while talking about random topics. James looked around the room and noticed Y/N wasn't in her usual spot. He took this opportunity to ask his friend what happened earlier
"Mate" he nudged Sirius with his shoulder getting his attention
"hm?" he responded as he had food in his mouth
"What happened today with Y/N?" he asked casually
He swallowed before speaking "She asked me out" he said nonchalantly
This caused the others to freeze in place, they looked around at each other seeing who will speak first.
"What did you tell her?" Peter spoke up
"I said no"
"WHAT?" the three said in unison
"What? She's not my type" Sirius explained
"Sirius, are you joking? That girl has been in love with you for ages, we all know you're perfect for each other" James looked at his friend like he was crazy
"No, she hasn't. I just don't think we'd be a good fit together, she's not really what I go for" He didn't want to hurt her feelings but he just didn't think she met what he wanted. Honestly, he didn't know what he wanted. He knew he was an attractive person and he knew that girls were attracted to him. As much as he hated sticking to the status quo, he seemed to always go for the girls who fit the beauty standard.
"Not your type? what, pretty and stupid?" Remus scoffed
"Hey I'm not saying Y/N's not pretty it's just, I don't think what people will think about me if we were together" he defended himself
"Aright, it's your life" James concluded before they went back to their original conversation

June 30th, 1978
The last day of school, 7th year.
Y/N was packing her trunk for the last time before she left Hogwarts, as much as she loved the place she was excited to start her future. The last year had been fairly normal, she had taken the year to get over Sirius. She thought she was silly for even entertaining the idea that they could ever be together. She knew how he was and just ignored it. It kinda helped that he hadn't spoken to her since the previous year.
She knew it was for the best, if she didn't worry about some dumb boy she could focus on who she was going to be in life. She planned on going to a muggle university as her mother did and study law.
She gave one last look at her dorm, where she spent the last seven years of her life. She casted a spell to have her trunk follow behind her as she left her room for the last time. Walking out of her common room passing all the other students who were saying goodbyes and excited for summer.
She walked down the grand staircase, dropping her trunk off with the others before heading to the train platform. She found a group of her close friends amongst the sea of students who are waiting to get on the Hogwarts express. They walked onto the train that was filled with kids who were excited to go home, finding the compartment they'd sat in for years as they talked about what they wanted to do over the summer.
-
The train ride went faster than she had hoped, she didn't when she would see her friends again. Getting off the train she saw kids reunite with their families, hugs, and smiles could be seen all over the platform. Y/N's parents always waited for her in the muggle part of the station, they didn't like running into people from their school days.
She gathers all her belongings and says her last goodbyes to her friends before heading to the portal. Pushing her trolly through the crowd, careful not to hit anyone's ankle she focused on making it off of the platform. She could see the red sign was a few feet away when a hang gently grasped her shoulder. She stopped in her tracks and turned to see who it was
"Y/N, I've been calling you," The boy said with a small smile, it was Sirius
"Sorry, I didn't hear you" She apologized, the situation was a little tense. They only spoke a few times since that day in potions class
"I wanted to talk to you before we left school but I couldn't find you" he started, Y/N didn't respond allowing him to continue. "I was thinking maybe you and I could hang out this summer, I don't know maybe go on a date or something," he said as nervously rubbed the back of his neck
Y/N couldn't help but give him a confused look, she had no idea why he was asking this now. "What? Where did all of this come from?"  She asked moving her cart to the side to get out of people's way. He followed closely behind her as he continued the conversation
"I've been thinking about it all year, I was wrong to tell you that I didn't want to go out. Honestly, I wasn't thinking clearly, I'm sorry"  He didn't want to go into too much detail on how much he'd actually been thinking about her.
He thought about her every day since she asked him out. He always thought she was cool, she was funny and kind and smart and she was always there for her friends he had only thought of her as a friend. Most of his relationships didn't last longer than three months so he never thought about what he'd want in a long-time partner.
Over the course of his 7th year, he thought about it more and when he did, the more Y/N checked off the boxes. His friends were right, she was perfect for him. He didn't realize that until recently and he was afraid he was too late but he had to ask anyway.
Y/N didn't know what to think, she had spent so long trying to get over him, and all of a sudden he was interested in her. She was quite irritated, why would he think she would be available for him whenever he wanted. She wasn't going to let that happen.
"Sirius, I honestly don't know what to say but I think it's best we don't see each other." She said calmly
"Why not?" It wasn't rare for him to hear 'no', it stung more coming from her mouth.
"I've spent so much time getting over you and you show up out of the blue with this offer. I'm sorry Sirius but it's not going to happen" she needed to get out of there as fast as possible, if she stayed another minute she was afraid she'd change her mind. She began pushing her cart back toward the entrance, before she got too far she turned around watching his face as he processed what happened. "Have a nice summer, Sirius"
She turned back around moving forward, he watched her get lost in the crowd.

Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft And Wizardry cordially invites you to the Class of 78's 10-year reunion! The Hogwarts Express leaves at 11 am, 1 July
The letter in Sirius' hands was slightly crumbled as had just dug it out of the bin. He received it last week and didn't know if he should go or not, he wasn't in the mood to interact with his old classmates. The last ten years have been rocky for Sirius. After leaving school, he traveled the world because it was something he always wanted to do. While he was in Germany he met a muggle woman and he fell for her quickly.
He had never been happier, their relationship moved very fast they were married within six months. It was going great for a while, he was still traveling but she wanted more. She asked him multiple times to move to Germany with her and start a family. It took a while for him to agree to this. A year into the marriage he moved to Germany to settle down, he got a job and was happy.
Over the course of the next five years, his marriage started to deteriorate, for some reason he and his wife couldn't have a child and she started to resent him for that. He tried everything he could to make her happy, he turned into a completely different person and it still wasn't enough. Finally, when he was tired of being in a loveless marriage he left and moved back to London.
His divorce was finalized four months ago, he's doing better now. He's happy to be home and close to his mates, James had gotten Lily to agree to marry him and they have a young boy. Remus finally got the chance to become a teacher like he always wanted, and peter is living a happy quiet life in the country.
Things were finally good.
He still didn't want to go to this reunion, having everyone ask what he had been up to for the past ten years wasn't his favorite conversation. But after a lot of convincing from James, he gave in.
He had a small carry-on in his hand as he walked out of his small flat and set off to King Cross where he would meet his friends. He just wanted to get this weekend over with.
-
When Y/N arrived at Kings Cross, she was excited to go back in time. She hadn't thought much about her years at the school since she left. She did exactly what she planned, she went to school and became a lawyer. A damn good one at that, she hasn't lost a case since she started her own firm. She was doing pretty good for herself.
She wasn't married, she had been single for a few years because of how busy her schedule was. None of her partners understood why she couldn't always be around. This caused a lot of distance in her relationships so she figured it was best just to ride solo for a while.
She had recently reconnected with her friend group from school, and they all talked about their lives. Some of them had kids and were married, Y/N felt a little sad that she couldn't brag about an amazing husband. She had always wondered what it would be like if she had settled down after school like everyone else, but she remembers how happy she has made herself. Maybe one day she'll find "the one".
Right now she and three of her old friends are sitting in the same compartment they did all those years ago. Slightly gossiping about everyone they've seen so far, everyone has changed so much. She was nervous about going, Hogwarts brings back so many memories all the good and the bad.
She forgot how long that train ride was, she found herself growing tired just a few hours in. She decided to take a nap so she would be refreshed when they got there.
-
When they finally arrived, everyone was eager to get off the train. Y/N had woken up an hour prior to arriving so she was ready to go. She stood from the bench seat and walked out of the compartment, her friends following close behind. Y/N followed the crowd off of the train, on the platform stood a very tall man, it felt just it did on her very first day at school.
"Welcome back to Hogwarts Class of '78, we have all missed you very much! Please make your way down to the boats." Hagrid's deep voice rang out
The now adults made their way down to the lake the same way they did when they were 11. Groups of four climbed into the boats and magically floated their way done the lake. The scene was just as beautiful as Y/N remembered.
Once everyone was off the boats everyone knew where to go, it was like muscle memory. Nothing about the castle had changed, it was beautifully lit up by torches along the corridors. The walls had been decorated with magical pictures of all of the students throughout their time at Hogwarts.
It made Y/N feel like she was a teenager again when all she had to worry about was turning in an assignment on time. Staying amongst her friend group they walked into the great hall which was always breathtaking. The ceiling was enchanted to look like the night sky, lit candles floated in the air lighting up the room. The floor was decorated similar to when they would have a dance, all the long tables were gone and replaced with smaller round ones decorated with soft table cloths.
There were snack tables on both sides of the room, everyone scattered around looking at all the nostalgic decorations. Y/N's friends had already found a table and sat down, when she arrived at the table her friends were whispering. Gossip.
"What are you guys talking about?" she asked taking a seat at the table
"Look over there, dear. Isn't that Sirius Black?" One of them said while pointing to a table across the room
Sirius Black. That was a name Y/N hadn't heard in years. She slowly turned her head so it wasn't obvious they were talking about him. When she finally found him, his eyes were already on her. This made her look away quickly, a wave of adrenaline washed over her. She hadn't felt that since the last day she saw him.
All of her memories of him came flooding in all at once, all the laughs and test answers they shared. The most prominent memory was him rejecting her. It didn't hurt as bad as it did back then, of course, it sucks to be rejected but she got over it. She realized how juvenile it was to think about what could've been but she couldn't help but wonder what it would be like if they ever were together.
She shook the thoughts from her head, no, tonight we're in the moment. She thought to herself, she was going to enjoy herself this weekend.
A loud familiar voice filled the great hall causing everyone to look at the front of the room. Dumbledore stood at his podium as he always did when he gave a speech.
"Good evening class of '78, it's so wonderful to see all your faces again! Even though you're all grown up now, to me I still know you as the young kids running around the castle. Please enjoy yourself tonight, catch up enjoy the refreshments and live music. I shall be walking around to hear all of your adventures beyond this campus."
As soon as he stopped speaking a band started playing all the wizard music hits from their time at Hogwarts.
-
On the other side of the room, Sirius black is sitting at a table with his best mates. James hadn't shut up about how much he missed the school, Sirius tried his best to match his enthusiasm but he couldn't. Since he got there, he heard at least four different people talking about his divorce.
He noticed Y/N the second she walked in the door, she was absolutely beautiful. He always knew she was beautiful but seeing her in this place was like a breath of fresh air. He had to talk to her tonight, he had to know what she'd been doing all those years.
As the night progressed, Sirius kept finding himself stealing glances with Y/N. He watched her dance with her friends, he saw her talking to old teachers, he didn't know what happened to all the confidence he once had because he couldn't go up to her.
James had noticed his behavior, no matter what Sirius said he knew he never got over her.
"Sirius mate, just go talk to her," he said pulling his friend out of his thoughts "She probably forgot about everything that happened, go say hello"
"I don't know" Sirius sighed "What if she's married?"
"She's not" Lily, James' wife chimed in
"How do you know?" Sirius challenged
"Because I talked to her, now stop moping and go" the redhead demanded
"James, you're wife is very mean" he said as he stood from the table
"I know" James smiled kissing her on the cheek
Y/N was sitting at her table hydrating after dancing, her back was turned away from the crowd so she didn't see Sirius come up to her.
He tapped her shoulder causing her to lightly jump, when she turned around she was met with an older version of the boy she once knew.
"Hi" He greeted with a large smile
"Sirius, how are you?" she matched his grin
"I'm good, do you mind if I sit?" he asked pointing to the empty chair next to her
"Sure, go ahead"
Sirius sat down on the white chair, he didn't say anything for a few seconds before picking up the conversation
"So what've you been up to? It's been ages since I last saw you"
"Nothing much really, once I left school I went to law school now I have my own law firm," she said with no excitement because it was the twenty-something time she said it tonight.
"A lawyer? Wow, that's amazing!" He was so glad she was doing well in life, better than he was.
"It's not that great, it's a lot of work" she laughed "What about you? What've you been doing the last 10 years?"
He paused, he didn't want to lie and say it was great but he didn't want to ruin the moment. "It's been quite interesting actually" he nervously played with his fingers "I traveled for a while after graduating, then I got married and moved to Germany"
Married, great. She thought
"You live in Germany? That's so cool" she replied
"No no, not anymore" he laughed "I moved back to London when my wife and I spilt" he explained
"Oh" Y/N let slip "I'm sorry, I hope you're doing alright" she offered
"I am, thanks. I'm actually pretty happy right now" he smiled
For the next hour or so they talked about everything they could. It felt like they never lost that time, they felt as if they were still those friends in school. Somewhere through the hour, they migrated to the dance floor. They were a respectable amount of distance apart, Sirius' hands were on her waist, her arms loosely wrapped around his shoulders. they  continued their conversation as they danced
"Y/N, can I be honest with you?" Sirius asked randomly
"Go for it" she said as she swayed to the music
"I honestly don't know why I ever let you go"
She stopped dancing, she scanned his face for any sign that he was lying
"Sirius that was years ago, it's okay" she laughed lightly
"I know I know, I just wish I had gone on that date with you" he smirked
Y/N thought for a minute, maybe this was her chance to see what could've been
"Well, you can always go on a date with me now"
"Really?" he was taken aback that she would say that
"Yeah, why not? You can finally see what you had missed out on all those years ago" she teased
"Let's go then" he said grabbing her hand and running out of the great hall
They went through all the corridors and all the unlocked classrooms reminiscing on their days at the school. At the end of their self-guided tour, they ended up at the top of the astronomy tower.
"This place always had the best view" Y/N said as she stood next to Sirius at the railing looking out at the night sky
"Yeah, it does" Sirius agreed, but he wasn't talking about the stars. He moved slightly closer to her, close enough to where their arms touched. "I'm glad I got to see you again" he said softly
"I am too," she said looking into his eyes
"Maybe when we go home, I can take you on a proper date" Sirius suggested
"I'd like that" Y/N smiled softly, she couldn't help but flicker her eyes down to his lips.
He noticed. He leaned in closer, their noses softly brushed against each other. Right as their lips were about to connect, a loud cough could be heard causing the two to pull away.
"Mr. Black, Ms. L/N it's past curfew" Dumbledore started "Please see your way back to your dorms"
"Yes professor" They said, sounding like children who got caught doing something they weren't supposed to. They both hurried their way down the large staircase, a little out of breath but they were out of Dumbledore's view.
"Now, where were we?" Sirius asked as he gripped Y/N's waist pulling her in for a passionate kiss.

it had been years since you thought of chris.
the two of you grew up in the same neighborhood, just kids chasing ice cream trucks and climbing trees in the summer sun. you never really kept in touch after middle school, as life took you in different directions, but the memories were always there—fond, innocent.
so, when you saw him at that party last weekend, standing across the room, a beer in his hand, it took you a moment to place him. he looked different now. taller, broader. his dark hair was longer, slightly messy, but his eyesthose blue eyes you remembered—were the same. they brightened when they landed on you.
"hey," he said, grinning as he approached. "it’s been a long time, hasn’t it?"
it had been. too long, maybe.
you caught up, talked about old times, laughed about the silly things you used to do. there was something comforting about reconnecting with someone who knew you before adulthood twisted things into stress and complexity. chris was kind, charming even. you exchanged numbers before the night ended, not thinking too much of it.
at first, it seemed casual enough—harmless. a few texts, some late-night conversations. he was sweet, nostalgic. you even met for coffee a couple of times. it felt natural, familiar, as if no time had passed at all. but there was something beneath the surface that you couldn’t quite put your finger on.
chris was always available. he replied to your texts almost instantly, showed up wherever you happened to be—whether it was at the grocery store or with friends at a bar. at first, you brushed it off as coincidence, but the way he looked at you began to change. his eyes, once warm and light, now held something deeper, darker. you caught him staring at you in ways that made your skin crawl, even if he smiled right after.
the shift was gradual, like a slow-building storm.
"who was that guy you were talking to?" chris asked one night after a party when you two had gotten back to your apartment. his voice had an edge to it, something sharp that hadn’t been there before. you frowned, confused. "what guy?" "at the party. the guy by the bar. you were laughing with him." he responds gruffly. "oh, him?" you chuckled awkwardly. "that was just ryan. we were catching up. he’s an old friend."
chris didn’t laugh. in fact, he didn’t say anything at all for a long moment. he just stared at you, his jaw clenched, his hands tight into fists at his sides. "i don’t like him," he finally muttered. "he looked at you like he wanted something." "chris, you’re overthinking it. he’s just a friend."
"i don’t care what he is," chris snapped, his voice louder than before. his eyes were burning now, a wildfire of something unhinged. "you shouldn’t be talking to other guys like that." you blinked, taken aback. "i think you're overreacting." but chris wasn’t listening anymore. he stormed off, leaving you standing there, heart racing, wondering where things had gone wrong.
days passed, but the feeling of unease only grew stronger. you couldn’t shake the sense that chris was always watching you. texts became more frequent, more intense, as if he needed constant reassurance of where you were and who you were with. one night, you woke to a dozen missed calls from him.
i’m just checking on you, one text read, but it felt like a lie.
it wasn’t long before you began noticing something even more unsettling—things out of place in your apartment. a shirt missing, your favorite necklace suddenly gone. and then the phone calls started. you’d pick up, only to hear heavy breathing on the other end. you’d hang up, but the calls kept coming.
one night, after a particularly long day, you came home to find your apartment door ajar. panic seized you as you pushed it open, scanning the darkness. nothing seemed out of place at first, but then, in the corner of your living room, a figure stepped out from the shadows.
a black robe and a white mask. a white mask covered in blood.
your heart stopped.
"chris?" you whispered, though it came out more like a plea.
the masked figure tilted its head, and then, in one smooth motion, he pulled the mask off. it was him. chris. his expression was eerily calm, too calm.
"i didn’t want to scare you," he said, as if this was normal—him standing in your living room dressed as ghostface. "i just… i need you to understand."
"understand what?" your voice wavered, and your pulse pounded in your ears.
"that you’re mine. you’ve always been mine. since we were kids." his tone was steady, almost affectionate. "i can’t let anyone else have you."
you backed away, the fear finally taking over. "chris, this is crazy—"
"i’m not crazy!" he shouted, his calm demeanor shattering into anger. "i’ve waited for you. I’ve loved you all these years, and you—" he took a step toward you, and you flinched. "you think you can just be with anyone? talk to anyone?"
"chris, please," you whispered, trying to keep your voice steady, though the tremble betrayed you.
he stopped, eyes softening, though the madness lingered. "you don’t understand. i’ve done everything for you. you don’t have to be afraid of me. i’d never hurt you." he smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes. "but i’ll kill anyone who tries to take you from me." you take a step back, taking a shaky breath, "chris... what did you do?"
the moment chris caught you talking to that ryan guy at your friend's party, he felt his blood boil. chris wasn't going to let anyone stand between you and him, especially not ryan.
when chris left your apartment that evening, he was seeing red. he stayed at home for a few days to try to cool off, but to no avail. a few days later, before he could give it much thought, he changed into his black robe and white mask. he then went on his phone and looked at your instagram, clicking on your following, and by dumb luck, he found ryan's instagram. he pressed on his story and saw he had posted from a restaurant not even five minutes from his house. chris grabbed one of his blades and walked out of his house, making his way to the restaurant.
he lost track of how long he waited for ryan to walk towards his car, but when he finally stepped out of the restaurant, chris was ready to pounce. before ryan could even open his car door, chris came up behind him and covered his mouth with his left hand. ryan began to struggle against his grip, but his effort was futile. chris had him tight in his arms, and he wasn't letting go until the job was done.
chris snakes his arm around ryan's body, plunging the knife into his abdomen, making ryan cry out in pain. chris had to keep him quiet, and his hand could only do so much. for good measure, he reached the knife up and sliced his neck, causing the blood to splatter everywhere, even getting some on his white mask. but that didn't matter, he was finally quiet.
to be extra sure he wouldn't cause more problems for you and him, chris buried his knife into ryan's chest a few more times. when he was positive he was no longer a threat, he took a step back, a faint smile of relief evident on his face. proud of his work, chris begins to trek back to your apartment, excited to tell you the news that ryan would no longer get in the way of the two of you. however, he didn't take into account that you wouldn't be as enthused as he is.
"oh my god," you whisper, covering your mouth with your hand. your heart was hammering in your chest as you took in his words. you scanned the room for an escape, but chris stepped closer, his expression softening into something almost tender. “we’re meant to be together. i won’t let anyone come between us.”
“no, chris, this isn’t love. you’re obsessed,” you said, hoping to reach the part of him that was still that boy you used to know. “you need help.”
for a moment, he hesitated, his expression faltering, as if your words had gotten through. but then his face hardened again. “i don’t need help. i just need you. life without you has no goddamn meaning.”
as he took another step forward, you bolted for the kitchen. your hands fumbled through the drawers, searching for something—anything—to defend yourself with. your fingers finally closed around the handle of a knife. you whirled around just as chris reached you, the knife held between you both.
“chris, please don’t make me do this,” you begged, voice shaking.
his eyes darted to the blade in your hand, and for a split second, doubt flickered across his face. but then he reached for you, determined, obsessed. you didn’t think. you reacted. the knife plunged forward, sinking into his side.
he gasped, staggering backward, his eyes wide with shock. blood blossomed around the wound, staining his robe. “i… i did this for you,” he choked out, dropping to his knees.
tears welled in your eyes, but you didn’t lower the knife. you couldn’t trust him—not anymore. “chris… i’m sorry. i never wanted this.”
his gaze locked onto yours, and in that moment, the rage melted away, replaced by something almost broken. “you’ll never be free of me,” he whispered, before collapsing onto the floor.
you stood there, frozen, the reality of what you’d done crashing down around you. the boy you once knew was gone, replaced by the monster he had become. but deep down, you knew he had left you no choice.
and even as the sirens blared in the distance, you couldn’t shake the feeling that chris had been right about one thing.
you would never truly be free of him.

he has been taking more jobs lately, more often than not getting out of bed at an early hour when the sun was just peeking over the horizon, and coming back well past midnight, leaving you all by yourself in the walls of your big mansion.
you were on the couch, legs crossed as you watched him put on his bulletproof vest before packing his body with guns, rifles, and knives. you could already feel the tears threatening to burst, but decided to speak up anyway. “could you stay?”
his head snapped towards you, stopping in his actions, “what?”
“n-not right now i mean…in general. could you stay home more? you are always away…” you explained, fighting everything in you not sound like a fool, whispering the last part more to yourself than him.
his eyes went back to his firearms as he continued getting ready, “you knew what my job was when we started dating. don't act like i blindsided you,” sounding like a harsh statement.
oh. you were taken aback by his serious tone, unsure how to react since he never talked to you like that before. but again, you didn’t really engage in an actual conversation with him this past month, so it was hard to say if he was acting unlike him or exactly like him.
“why are you complaining now?” you flinched at his harsh tone, snapping out of your thoughts, "my work takes up a lot of my time, and you were aware of that,” circling around to get his full magazines, “I can't just drop everything for you,” annoyance dripping from his voice.
your eyes were following his movements, immediately focusing at something else when he looked back at your figure. “i know that. but that doesn’t mean i can’t want more time with you. is that too much to ask for?” you anxiously fidgeted with your fingers, silent tears now streaming down your face.
john felt a tingle of empathy for you, but his anger and defensiveness got the best of him, and he retorted, “don’t guilt trip me for doing my job.”
“can you just…take one or two a week?” your face etched with pain and frustration, voice cracking as that lump in your throat just won’t let go.
“my reputation is on the line here. taking days off isn't practical," he dismissed you, closing the locks of his artillery filled case.
“please, john. just hear me ou-”
“no,” he cut you off spitefully, heading towards the door and muttering “don’t stay up for me,” before slamming it shut, unbearable solitude enveloping you once again.

3:17 am
naturally you would’ve been asleep by now, but you couldn’t stop wetting the pillows after your fight, turning and tossing around in the bed, trying to doze off, but nothing could help.
you heard the tires of his mustang drift against the gravelly porch of your house, followed by the sound of the front door opening, then closing.
you could hear him pouring himself a glass of bourbon and crashing down on a couch with a heavy sigh. having memorized all his routines, you knew he wasn’t the one to drink after job unless he needed a painkiller. and despite him shattering your heart today, it still ached with worry. you got out of the covers and took the first aid kit from the bathroom before slowly making your way to the living area.
you stood there, like an awkward child, contemplating if you should just drop it and leave him like he left you, or following your heart. you settled on the latter. he heard your footsteps before your form came into his vision, craning his neck to acknowledge your presence, dark eyes scanning your body as you approached him, straddling his lap and opening up the kit.
his face was littered with wounds, some not too serious, others cut quite deeply, his once slicked backed hair disheveled with a few strands covered in dried blood.
with a trembling sigh leaving your chest, you started working on cleaning his face, dabbing it gently with alcohol dipped cotton ball.
“told you not to stay up,” he murmured before eliciting a wince at one of the deep cuts. your cheeks were wet again, and you didn’t even know why were you crying anymore. because he was hurting? because he hurt you?
it didn’t matter as his thumb wiped at your soft skin, his deep voice whispering in the dark, “i’m sorry.”
you stayed silent the entire time, refusing to squeal a sound at the fear of making a total clown out of yourself.
“i’m sorry, sweetheart. i’m an idiot,” he continued, his other hand gently caressing your thigh, “don’t cry because of me,” which made you break down completely, stopping your actions and burying your face in his chest.
he wrapped his arms around you, holding you as you weeped, rubbing your back in soothing circles. “i’ll do as you wish. i promise,” he stated in your ear, whispering i love you as you cried yourself to sleep in his strong embrace.

| 2 AM - myung jaehyun x gn! reader - 800 wc✔︎
my notes⎯ hey...how y'all doing? I know it's been a long time since I've posted something but I'm in college now! and life is busy, but I promise i'll get better at it. hopefully after I post this I can begin another one! here's my man in a fanfic for y'all( ˶ˆᗜˆ˵ ). warnings⎯ lowercase intended, cursing, not really proofread. songs⎯ 2 am | SZA and pain | pinkpantheress
Tumblr media
"do I really to come over now?"
"well, yes."
an exasperated sigh leaves your lips as a heavy hand drags at your cheeks, "jaehyun, I love you, I do, but it's 2 am."
the luminescent glow from the device next to the pillow dims from being untouched. being the only light in the dark room, you can see the dark shadows beneath your lashes on the screen.
"okay but I need to show you something! It's important!" he rebuttals, his words slowed due to his own exhaustion. there's ruffling on the other end that follows.
"so important that you can't wait until the sun comes up?"
the sound stops, breathing; soft and quiet replaces it while he hesitates. it had been a long time since you had last seen jaehyun. him always busy flying to different countries, visiting onedoors all around the world while juggling intense practices and concerts, and you; buried under the weight of being a 2nd year in college, trying to get used to the mountains of school work assigned along with working an exhausting job.
there is no word strong enough to convey the feeling of the empty bed beside you. his space cold and open from where he usually laid. he couldn't make it home tonight, trapped in by the walls of the dorm due to a late night and scheduled activities for the following day.
you shudder as a cold breeze passes by you, "I'm waiting?"
"I miss you." he says after a moment. there's a heaviness to his voice, he's pouting, you can tell. his bottom lip poked out as he gazes at the contact name he put for you. "I wish I could come over but...you know how management is."
"I know." you unconsciously match his tone. a sigh. "yeah, I know."
"but..." he starts back up again. there's movement on his side and you hear him huff with effort as he tries to sit up. "they never said anything about you coming over here."
"sure, but that's because I've never been over there. you always come to my place." you finger for the switch to the lamp on your bedside table, tired of being surrounded by black. "I don't want to start now and then have to put rules in place that weren't there before. it'd be troublesome."
a long whine leaves his lips, thumping his fists lightly in a miniature tantrum, "but they know who you are! they trust you."
you sigh for the umpteenth time, "jaehyun." your voice trails off.
"what?" an abrupt scoff catches itself through the speaker, "you don't want to see me?"
"no, not at all!" you get out hastily, "you know how much I've missed you since you've been on tour; hell I'm pretty sure our texts show it, but I've been working too dude. and I'm sorry but I'm even too tired to even get up to use the bathroom."
"ew." it comes out quietly but still audible. "sounds like you need to invest in a catheter."
"die."
the line goes silent. the window on your left was propped open with a wooden stick you found at your job. the street below sings with cars passing through the leftover rain. it lulls you to sleep, the weight of your eyelids slowly closing in on itself.
"jaehyun." you mumble, finally feeling the effects of a tiring week. "why are you so quiet."
he clears his throat, "I can't be quiet?" the words rush out in a hushed voice, each one colliding with another.
"no." the duvet beneath your back shifts, "it's weird."
he pauses, a garbled noise releases from the back of his esophagus and it causes him to hesitate longer than intended. "how mad would you be at me if I were to say, hypothetically, that I was, hypothetically, on my way to your apartment with an overnight bag." he takes a breath and sheepishly adds, "hypothetically."
a sigh much deeper than the last deflates your body as you finally relinquish. you should've know playing this game with jaehyun wouldn't mean a thing to him. when he wanted something he got it, no matter if he had a packed day to come in the following hours.
"at this point," you start hiking the covers up closer to your chin. "I don't give a damn."
"I figured." you can hear the smug smile in his voice, the beep of the elevator doors opening for him and promptly closing as coded. "I'll be there in ten babe."
defeated, you turn your back towards the phone on his pillow, "yeah yeah, you know how to get in."
he laughs wholeheartedly, a sound resonating deep within his chest. it's easy to envision the cheeky grin that graces his face.
"of course, see you in a little, sleep well."

For some days, the occasional crackling voices from that speaker accompanied your life when the boys were away.
Of course, you relished the time they did spend at home. Even though they were busy training in most of their free time, and out late on missions, they would come and chat with you while they made breakfast, or came to rest and watch some tv.
To them, it probably appeared that nothing was different between you and Jungkook. Whenever they were home, he took the chance to train with them. You knew he missed them now they were out so much without him. Anyone would have noticed as much, given the way he hovered around the receiver, always staying up after you slipped quietly to bed.
But once the house emptied, the smiling Jimin, raucous laughter of Hope or the fond smiles of Yoongi would be replaced by the stony silence of Jungkook.
Somehow, you were growing used to it.
Either that, or you would be firing comments between each other, no longer sure if it counted as fighting or having a conversation. Anything to fill up the silence.
You trained more too, your powers’ strength returning slowly even in the course of a week. And since that night, a sort of ritual had begun at dinner. Of course, you would have chosen anyone else’s company over Jungkook’s, but you had to make do. You would cook something simple, ordering him to chop up ingredients at the very least while he complained (“if you’re just going to criticise me, do it yourself!”). To this, you would remind him that he wanted to eat the food, did he not?
If anything, it was a cathartic vengeance for the power he held in the training rooms.
But anytime the receiver blared into life, the two of you would fall quickly into silence, drinking in every word, even the shortest exchange, of the boys which were out who-knows-where.
Tonight was one of those times. The two of you were sitting across from each other as always, beginning to eat.
The radio sparking to life cut off your conversation. Jungkook put his chopsticks down completely, turning his attention towards it. It was Jimin’s voice.
“Did anyone else see that?”
“I did. Hold on, I’ll go check it out,” Hobi replied.
Then an order from Namjoon.
“Yoongi, go with him.”
You continued staring at the small device even while no more exchanges could be heard. That wasn’t the usual stuff they talked about. Normally, it was just routine things, checking up on each other and confirming what they had planned.
But it was probably nothing. It was presumably quite a feat that they hadn’t come across any sort of difficulty in all the missions so far, and this would prove to be a false alarm or easily dealt with. You had seen what the boys were capable of, after all – just Hobi and Yoongi by themselves could be lethal.
That didn’t stop you from hanging on expectantly, though.
At last, the silence was broken. But not by what you had hoped.
“Guys? What can you see?”
Namjoon’s question was met with no reply. You couldn’t tear your eyes from the small radio, breath captive in your lungs.
Then, a jarring noise leapt like lightning from the speaker, making both you and Jungkook flinch. High-pitched, grating feedback, it faded almost instantly, but the scar it had torn in the previously peaceful kitchen remained.
Frozen to your seat, your food was well and truly forgotten as you heard Jin chime in next.
“Guys, get out of there.”
Namjoon’s trust in his right-hand man was evident, no hint of question in his voice as he reverted orders.
“Code two, hide the target and evacuate-”
“Yeah, we might have a problem with that,” Jimin cut him off.
A loud boom was audible, despite the limits of the small receiver that reduced it to white noise. Once again, it cut off.
It was then you realised Jungkook was on his feet. He snatched the radio from its spot on the counter.
“Stay here,” he said, back already retreating.
A second later, you were dashing after him. Reaching his side, you both shoved shoes on.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
Jungkook glared at you with absolute incredulity, frown etched in his face. He didn’t even leave time to stare you down, however, already pushing past you and all but running down the front stairs.
You followed just as fast.
“I’m coming with you. They’re in trouble.”
“Which is exactly why I’m telling you to stay here,” he spat over his shoulder.
His foot tapped restlessly as the large front door slid open. The moment he had enough space to pass through, he was marching into the expansive garage, with you hot on his heels.
“I can help,” you argued.
Jungkook wove between the cars and stopped by a motorcycle. Turning to you, his face was set, frame livid and glare fierce while he dug harshly in his pocket for the keys.
“We don’t have time to argue.”
His tone was firm, clearly infuriated.
Just then, another concerning explosion crackled through the radio, standing your hair on end.
Stepping forwards, you swung your leg over the back of the motorbike and stared challengingly up at him.
“No. We don’t.”
The sound he let out bordered on a growl, but the next moment he had situated himself on the front of the bike, and a roaring filled the air as it shuddered into life beneath you. Left with virtually no time to react as he pulled away, you were forced to cling to the man in front of you.
With your arms thrown around him, you felt him stiffen under your touch. But then he was urging the bike forwards, and not a second later wind collided with your face as you shot from the base and into the night. The rapidly increasing speed left you to shelter your face in the back of his neck.
The cacophony in your ears and the rush of air that tugged your hair behind you should have alerted you that Jungkook was disregarding basically all existing traffic laws.
But you couldn’t care less.
With the blur of city lights whizzing past you, all you could think of was the speed with which you could reach the boys. The streets were fairly empty, but cars were dotted here and there. Probably cut some up, judging by the blaring horns at one intersection.
Thundering onto a wider street streaked with neon, your eyes fell on a billboard. As you sped towards it, the picture cut to purple fire and rubble, a live news banner scrolling along the bottom.
Then it was gone again, Jungkook guiding the bike around the corner and through more city streets.
The images set your head spinning, all the more restless on the back of the bike the longer you were helpless to do anything but wait for Jungkook to get you there. How was he going to find them? You hadn’t even been told where they were going. They hadn’t bothered you with mission details ever since you and Jungkook had been stood down-
“Almost there!” Jungkook’s yell was barely audible over the wind.
“Wait, how can you-”
“They’re protecting something called the Razer. Their plan B was to stash this weapon in some underground parking lot. You head down there, I’ll help fight them off. Looks like they were ambushed.”
“How do you know all this?” you finally made yourself heard.
“I snuck into Namjoon’s office, okay? I saw the plans,” he called back. “When we get there… you might have to fry this thing. It can’t fall into their hands, better that we destroy it altogether.”
You had no time to muster a reply before the bike was swinging around a corner and skidding to a halt.
At the end of this street, the sky was lit up. Purple fire blazed, just like on the billboard, but this time it was real, licking into the sky from the wreckage of a building on the corner. Other beams of light flashed, shocks of red and luminous white smattering the fronts of the buildings.
You got no more than a glimpse of a few figures silhouetted against this backdrop before Jungkook pulled you down to shelter behind the bike.
A hand on your shoulder keeping you in place, he peered over the top of the bike before returning his gaze to you.
“The building that’s been destroyed, the Razer should be in there. You should be able to make a way through the rubble. You’ll know when you see it. Do you remember training the other day?”
Trying to take in his instructions, you nodded.
“Use as much force as you can to overload it, like we practised. Should fry the weapon’s circuits.”
“Okay,” you muttered, taking a glance over the bike again. The street was littered with people, but no one seemed to have noticed your arrival.
“Y/N, they don’t know about you,” Jungkook’s voice recaptured your attention. “I’ll join the fight. It’ll distract them and buy you some time, hopefully give the others a chance to turn the tide as well. Don’t use your powers until you have to.”
He stood then, preparing to move around the bike and head into the fray.
His step faltered before he could go further.
When he turned back, a ray of gold flickered in his eyes.
“And Y/N… be careful. This weapon… if it strikes you, it can strip you of your power.”
Your eyes were locked for a long moment, his words sending a bolt of cold fear straight to your heart.
He took a breath, but said nothing more. An instant later, he was gone, the intensity of his eyes now no more than a mirage, quickly vanishing in your memory.
There was no time to agonise over it. Nor was there time to reconcile the implications of this fight, your first mission – your priorities turned to the weapon that was now in the open far from safe hands.
A flash of gold split through the night, sparks reflected in the bike’s mirrors.
Sucking in a lungful of air, you shuffled around the front wheel, slowly leaning out. Another blinding burst of gold showed you the outline of Jungkook, golden light firing him into the air. Sparks flew as he collided, wrestling, with someone halfway up a building.
The next moment, their figures plummeted to the ground.
Jungkook was the one who stood up again, the other staying motionless.
However, you weren’t here to watch. There was no time to stick around here. By now, others had noticed the newcomer to the fight; figures advancing your way down the street prompted you to get moving.
Ducking slightly, you picked your moment and sprinted the short distance from the bike to the edge of the street, flattening yourself against brick before checking no one had seen you.
All that greeted you were warring lights and the blur of fighting, backlit by the ever-raging fire.
Confident in being unnoticed, you sparked to life again, taking off on light feet in the opposite direction to the fighting. You raced around the corner to the neighbouring road, which was totally devoid of Bolt’s minions.
Judging by the short glimpses you had garnered so far, you guessed the group that had ambushed your friends were decked out with Bolt’s stolen goods – and were out for more. But you had no real idea how many of them had powers or not.
Or, come to think of it, how many of them there were at all.
All that mattered, though, was that there weren’t enough to have found you yet. You had run the length of the street, slowing as you reached the corner where the ruined parking lot stood.
Pressing your back against the wall, you edged around to peer at the damage. The fire was brighter here, making you squint. A few shapes darted in and out of view on the other side of the flames, but this side was still deserted.
This had to be it. Somewhere among this destruction was the weapon which had caused so much trouble.
Sheltered from view by V’s vibrant flames, you approached as close as you dared until you stood right in front of the rubble. You clambered over a few smaller chunks of concrete before you decided to begin.
With one more look around for security, you breathed deeply and raised your hands, palms only a hair away from a large block that used to form part of a wall, but now lay at your feet.
Biting your tongue, you finally let your powers out.
Remembering Jungkook’s words, you focussed on broadening the scope of your power, letting as much flow from your fingertips as possible. Blue bloomed in front of your eyes. A second later, the boulder began to glow the same hue.
Gritting your teeth, you propelled even more of your power downwards. For a moment, the rock resisted, only growing brighter blue. Then all at once, it gave way with a splintering sound that was swallowed up by the roaring of the fire.
With the sudden caving, you stumbled forwards, supressing your powers hurriedly to hide any light that would give you away. Just before you could trip into the gap revealed by the destruction of the rubble, you caught yourself with a hand on the ruptured concrete edge.
The fire did little to light up the dark space that now gaped below you.
Crouching, you peered carefully around. After a moment, your eyes had adjusted enough to reveal a concrete staircase, shrouded in the debris from the collapsed wall.
You shifted closer until you could lower yourself over the edge. Holding onto the remains of the wall, you dropped down onto the stairway.
It was seriously dark down here. To continue, you had to summon a small ball of light. Blue hovered above your palm, helping you pick through the dust and bricks that littered the ground from the building’s collapse.
On the plus side, it was utterly empty. You were clearly the first one to break through to this part, so you pushed ahead, following the stairs down as per Jungkook’s instructions. The plan had been to hide it underground.
Further on, you found the base of the staircase drowned in another pile of rubble. A larger slab encroached, looming from where it had been dislodged from the ceiling, lowering the height of the space. You didn’t dare try to move that one, however, almost certain that it was keeping a larger amount of debris from filling this corridor entirely.
Ducking quickly under that, you shot through a couple of smaller pieces before you could see a way through.
Not wanting to shift more stone than you had to, you wriggled through the gap you had created. The other side was lit with a wavering yellow light, making the stairs’ shadow flicker. A few more steps led down before you finally found the end to the enclosed space.
A blank corridor led to a door which hung off its hinges. Pausing when you reached it, a bigger, equally blank space opened out in front of you.
Though a small part of the ceiling had caved in the opposite corner, a pile of rubble collected there, the intact state of the walls told you that you were finally below ground level. The space was wide, but heavy with the oppressive air of industrial parking towers, walls strewn with graffiti. Artificial lights flickered in the corner of your vision.
The lights quivered even more as a loud boom ricocheted through the space.
That confirmed you were heading in the right direction, at least. Taking off running, you skidded through the next doorway and were instantly greeted with chaos.
Purple flickered and danced along the opposite wall – although you weren’t sure there was a real wall there at all. In front of this barrier of his own making, V was silhouetted.
Before submerging yourself in the waves of heat the large fire was throwing off, you took a breath. You couldn’t make out any enemies in the gaps between the flames, the light too dim and distorted by the blaze, but V shot another burst of flame as you watched. Your eyes were too dazzled to see if it had hit someone.
“V!” you called, hurrying to his side.
He turned with a jolt, arms still raised. Stopping in your tracks at his abrupt movement, you watched his eyes cloud with recognition.
Slowly, he lowered his palms.
“…How?”
You filled in the blanks of his low, startled question easily. How did you get here?
“No one followed me, I promise,” you stepped closer, “we heard you on the radio. We need to destroy that weapon.”
Nodding, V shifted his eyes furtively around before they landed on the only intact door in the place.
“There- mmph!”
V raised an arm to point, but was suddenly thrown in that direction himself.
“V!” you cried, crouching to his side, but your eyes were scanning the flame.
Hissing, V rolled over, clutching at his side which had been struck with… something. It wasn’t the same thing that had hurt him last time, but you knew the weapons Bolt was using were anything but friendly.
“Go… destroy...” he urged you, though the following groan of pain made you hesitate.
Gulping, you looked helplessly between V, who was struggling back to his feet, and the doorway he had shown you. Just as he stumbled upright, both of your attention was snatched by a figure breaking through the flames.
They had an arm over their face, grimacing at the heat, but they lifted their weapon blindly anyway.
You dived to the floor, scurrying away from the round of bullets strewn about the space.
Before either of you could retaliate, a shot of gold pierced the purple veil, sending the attacker flying. As the shots ceased, you caught sight of a silhouette you recognised darting behind the column of fire.
“Go!” V shouted again.
Meeting his eyes, you steeled yourself with a breath. While you wanted to stay and help against those enemies trying to break through the fire to get to V, with Jungkook to contend with on the other side as well, they were surrounded.
Now it was up to you.
You had found yourself with your back against the very door you needed to go through. Spinning, you wrenched it open to be met with another descending staircase. The lights had gone out totally here, but there was no time to waste.
Plunging into the darkness with nothing but your own light to guide you, you felt the temperature drop. Your skin was clammy, sweat from the heat above now clinging icily to your face, but you weren’t hanging about.
Feet finally finding flat ground, you looked around urgently until you caught sight of a shape ahead.
It was a large box, black so it nearly blended in with the darkness. Scrabbling to get to the weapon within, you easily blasted aside the simple metal fastenings.
On opening it, bright light startled your eyes once more. A clear sphere filled with what looked like bolts of lightning formed the centre of the device. The surrounding parts containing it were white, clearly a prototype, and resembled a gun.
Already feeling your powers bubbling up, you didn’t hesitate to place your hands on the spherical centre. A tingle flew up your spine.
Refusing to let fear get to you now, even with the knowledge of what this thing could do, you continued to push until your powers spilled from your fingertips. Blue lightning skittered over the glass surface, caging the still writhing light within.
Glowing brighter and brighter as you expelled more power, you began to feel something. Like the time in training when Jungkook had connected your powers and you had felt his golden electricity – except this, this was cold.
The glass shattered between your hands, noise and light smothering your senses as you were thrown backwards.
Your back met concrete, your own gasps heavy in your ears.
The cold was still there.
Blinking rapidly, you grappled to hold onto your powers, keep them flowing. Squinting into the brightness surrounding you, you found a brilliant white light had sprung from the weapon’s casing, seemingly latched onto your own powers.
Fear jolted through you. The light, whatever its power, was pushing back, trying to devour your own.
You had been trained for this. But – and you would never repeat this – you longed for Jungkook in that moment. The safety of the training room, and the usual guarantee of coming out alive, had all fallen away.
It was just you. Alone.
But there was a fight raging above you, all for this thing. You had to do this: for Yoongi and Hobi who could be anywhere right now. Hurt, bleeding? For Jin and Namjoon, wanting to come out on top. Jimin, fighting for V who was penned into the parking lot defending you.
And for Jungkook.
You had been trained for this.
Adrenaline buzzing in your veins, you pushed yourself up from the floor, power swelling in your chest. Letting it out completely, it charged through your veins until it was spitting sparks in the air, jaws gnashing against the blazing white that threatened to devour it.
One foot forwards.
The white lightning squirmed, as if trying to shake you off. You never relented. Blue advanced steadily from your hands until it was all that could be seen.
Breaking point. You kept up the pressure, feeling the last bit of resistance from the weapon-
Crack.
Upstairs, the fire V had lit was buffeted as if hit by a powerful gust of wind. Disturbed anew, blocks shifted in the rubble, pebbles raining to earth. The opponent Jungkook had been fighting was swept clean from their feet, his golden light harmlessly striking the wall behind the spot where they had just stood.
But as the enemy was forced to the floor, Jungkook’s attention was already elsewhere. Struggling to stay standing through the shockwave, he staggered back a few paces before he could turn towards the fire. The way you had gone.
The ground seemed to settle again, the blast leaving silence in its wake.
The first sound was his feet pounding on the floor. Striding right over the fighters lying on the ground, uncaring whether they were dead or alive, skirting around the fire they had been attempting to cross seconds ago.
None of Bolt’s pathetic followers attempted to stop Jungkook. They couldn’t deny the meaning of that explosion – the thing they were after was destroyed.
Normally, he might stay, try to stop them fleeing. As it was, he didn’t stand between them and their retreat, instead sprinting towards the source of the commotion.
V had kept his guard up, still eyeing the fire for movement with dark eyes. He caught Jungkook’s eyes as the younger stopped in front of him, eyes wide and panicked.
V turned.
Following his gaze, Jungkook found a doorway. Behind the open door was consuming darkness, still and silent.
You were in there.
His feet were moving again, steps turning to strides as he picked up speed, only to nearly trip over himself as he got closer.
You rushed up the stairway, catching yourself on the doorframe. Leaning against it, you panted for breath, but an exhilarated smile never left your features.
As your breathing calmed, you looked around into the car park. Eyes meeting Jungkook’s, you straightened up a little.
His mouth hung slightly agape. He had expected you to crawl from there bleeding, if the shockwave had been anything to go by. And for him to be the one that sent you down there-
“I did it!” you exclaimed.
Blinking rapidly, he clocked how long he must have been staring in shock.
Nodding, he hurriedly shuffled around in pretence of checking the area like V.
“Good. I almost didn’t think you were going to be any help.”
You had no time to decipher his comment before V cast a sharp gaze over the two of you. His usual silence had taken hold again, but Jungkook seemed to understand him.
“We need to move.”
Striding away purposefully, V left you two to scramble after him. Jungkook threw one more skittish glance at you, but quickly turned his eyes away to march after V.
The fire’s heat grew in intensity as you neared, smothering. V waved a hand and a gap opened up, the glaring purple giving way to pure darkness beyond. Hurrying through, you panted gratefully in the cool night air. Even among the rush of your battle downstairs, you felt a bit wobbly from the strain.
Leaving the fire blazing behind you without a care, your trio scaled the wreckage, this side of the building being the main victim of the destruction. The landslide of rubble sloped upwards, your path weaving between motionless figures, slumped in gaps between the debris.
V bent down to scoop up a gun, lifting it easily from a fallen opponent. Their hand fell uselessly back onto the rock.
Jungkook did the same, only he flung the weapons he collected back into the fire behind you. It spat as it guzzled them, but the sound grew fainter as you finally reached the street and hurried away over flat ground.
As the three of you sprinted through the night, the full extent of the battle was spread before you. Scattered around the burning building were pieces of wreckage, but you were sure they couldn’t have been flung that far if it wasn’t for human intervention in the destruction.
You were forced to leap over a large channel where the road had cracked, somehow.
Eerily still after the furore that had been raging only moments ago, your group’s footsteps rang loudly in your ears. Which is why the crunch that echoed through the wasteland stopped you in your tracks.
Whizzing around, you were instantly alert, feeling your powers stir.
But the air left your lungs, relieved by the blur of pink that was coming towards you.
Jimin tossed a mangled car to one side like it was nothing, only focussed on V. They collided, Jimin burying his head in V’s shoulder and desperately clutching him close.
It was only after pulling away that he registered your presence. His eyes flicked between you and Jungkook, a million questions forming in his eyes.
But he left them unsaid.
He started running again, hand clutched in V’s and leading him around the corner. Following, you drew further from the fiery glare in your wake. The shadows grew thicker, your path taking you off that road and further into the city maze.
Wailing met your ears, sirens announcing the likely arrival of authorities at the site of the fight – all too late to stop anything.
Though you were out of sight, you were only a few streets away. Enough to make you feel terribly exposed to the building clamour of sirens. A glance over your shoulder showed the distinct red and blue of emergency vehicles painting the dark sky.
Then you caught sight of something – someone – stepping forwards from the shadows.
Someone with silvery hair and eyes that glowed bright white.
You hadn’t really seen Yoongi use his powers. His eyes were truly striking, but he did little more than breathe and suddenly the world was plunged back into darkness. The colours disappeared from the sky, even the streetlights dying.
“Yoongi!” Jimin exclaimed, changing course to rush towards him, “you’re okay! What happened-?”
“We’re fine,” Yoongi spoke calmly, dazzling eyes scanning the road behind you, “just couldn’t get back- speaking of, where are we getting to now?”
As if summoned, a figure dropped from the now dark streetlamp. No one else could make a landing like that look so easy.
Yellow faded from Hope’s eyes as he faced you, grin splitting his face.
“Namjoon got to Jin alright, they’re on their way. Just saw them.”
Only the crunch of tyres gave away the car that swung around the corner. The headlights had been cut, whether by Yoongi or by Jin, driving, as a precaution. It blended with the shadows, sliding through them to stop smoothly in front of your group, assembled on the pavement.
It wasn’t until a door swung open and Namjoon stood from it that you remembered the fact you weren’t meant to be there.
This far, the adrenaline of the action had driven it from your mind. But the look Namjoon threw at you and Jungkook made reality come crashing back around you. Would he be angry? He was the one who had stood you down after all.
He breathed in evenly, gaze raking painstakingly over you…
“Get in.”
That was all he said, ducking back inside the car without another word.
As always, nothing could be read through his words. Sobered, you looked at the boys around you, waiting for them to pile into the car before you joined them.
Inside, you kept silent. Jimin and Tae were squished together in the back, Hope apparently cheerful beside them. By contrast, in the middle, Yoongi was staring intently out at the passing streets. His irises still glowed white, reflected in the darkened glass of the window. No trace of emergency lights, searchlights or even regular city lights found its way remotely near you.
This left you shoulder to shoulder with Jungkook, a frosty silence stretching between you.
With Yoongi doing his job so well, Jin guided the car silently back home. Namjoon’s calculating eyes scanned the lot of you through the rear mirror occasionally.
All you could do was try valiantly to ignore the firm press of Jungkook’s arm against yours. But it was impossible to drive him from your mind; in a way, this was familiar. His rigid frame, determinedly staring ahead. Anywhere but you.
Then why did it make you feel so small now?
You were well used to this kind of treatment from him, reciprocating it more often than not. So it was totally unfair how he could occupy your thoughts so relentlessly. All you had done was follow his orders. Rushed into battle together, yes. But you reminded yourself that he never wanted you there anyway. You were still just a hindrance to him.
Setting your jaw, you turned your gaze stoically out the window. A lone streetlight travelled past – you must be almost home if Yoongi felt it safe enough to let the light back in.
You had lost them well enough in the dark maze of the centre, and now you could throw them off your trail.
Through the reflections, you eyed the car packed with all of you. It felt right, with everyone there. Dimmed by the window glass, you saw Jimin’s arm slung around V’s shoulder, small smiles on everyone’s faces as he exchanged low jokes with Hobi.
Jin and Namjoon guided you home at the head of the vehicle. Namjoon’s glances were caring instead of cold, checking up on his fellow fighters.
This could have been different. Nerves remained about his decision, what your actions tonight would make him think. But you could rest knowing you had stepped in to help your new family, part of the reason you were all safely in this car now.
These events only bolstered what had been growing within you. These boys were your team.
Every single one.

K, so I'm in a depressive episode, and I'm craving chocolate. Nobody probably cares, but here's what type of chocolate members of Team Tadpole prefer and how I think they'd react to receiving it as a gift! This is purely headcannons, and I haven't been able to play the game in a few months, so if I get something wrong, don't be mad at me, lol.
Shadowheart: She absolutely adores dark chocolate, and she's absolutely one of those pretentious fuckers who hate milk chocolate, and take anything other than 90-100% cacao as an insult on their fucking bloodline. She does think that she's better than you for liking Dark chocolate- This does not change if she gets her 'good' ending.
If you bring her her favorite type of chocolate, she will not only be impressed but grateful. I feel like she probably has chronic migraines or something and would enjoy sharing it with you some late night with a bottle of wine and a charcuterie board. Probably making flower crowns or feeding animals in a meadow, basic cottagecore lesbian romance stuff. I could be wrong, I've never romanced Shadowheart, but it's just a gut feeling.
Karlach: Karlach likes milk chocolate best, and doesn't see the point in putting up with something bitter just because some people think it's 'better'. More than anything, it reminds her of her mums baking, back when she was a kid. Chocolate is expensive and hard to get your hands on, but by god when the holidays came around or her birthday, I feel like her mum would've baked her the best cookies or chocolate chip muffins after working extra hard to afford it.
Karlach would love whatever type of chocolate you gave her, but I think especially if you brought her hot chocolate or chocolate chip cookies/Muffins/etc, she might even tear up a little. After all, she hasn't had something like that since her mom died.
Wyll: Wyll is a proud enjoyer of chocolate in general, but actually seems to favor white chocolate and dark chocolate the best. He likes to enjoy the contrast in flavors.
I feel like Wyll would just be grateful to be given chocolates, and wouldn't care much what form they came in. He'd probably invite you to enjoy them alongside him, and simply spend time with one another. I do believe he loves dark hot chocolate with whipped cream, and would probably try to set up a day to go to his favorite cafe in baldurs gate for hot chocolate, to return the favor. It's a treat for him, too, since he hasn't been there since his father cast him out. It'll bring a wave of nostalgia, and maybe some unkind memories.. But he will feel happy to be there. Especially to be there with you. And maybe, it'll become a much more common thing.
Astarion: I feel like he prefers dark chocolate, if he's able to eat it at all (I don't remember how vampires work in DnD.)..
If he can't eat it, I feel like he'd miss it.. the simple things. Pleasures like imported chocolates. He might go on a monologue about things he enjoyed as a Mortal that he no longer can.-.. If he can, however, eat chocolate.. I think he'd be surprised. Surprised you thought of him, surprised you spent the money, surprised you wanted to give him anything at all. I think he'd be very happy, but he probably wouldn't want to show it. He'd brush it off with a sarcastic comment or something, yet still taking the mental note that if nobody else cared, at least you did.
Gale: Gale is the most pretentious motherfucker there is, are you kidding me? I think he, himself, loves milk chocolate and it's a major guilty pleasure, but he tells everyone it's dark chocolate. He doesn't shame anyone for their preference, but there comes an air of arrogance whenever he says he likes dark chocolate.
He will definitely be grateful no matter what type you give him, but if you give him milk chocolate and tell him you know it's his favorite? He might try to deny it at first, but his heart is beating a mile a fucking minute knowing that you've been observant enough to bring him his actual favorite type without making a big deal about it, or calling him a liar.
Lae’zel: Has never had chocolate before, and doesn't know why you're giving it to her. She does, however, adore white chocolate after you get her to try some. You'd assume she'd prefer dark, but she doesn't. She believes that if you're going to have a sweet, or a desert, it shouldn't be bitter because that defeats the purpose.
After you get her to try it the first time, she'll insist she doesn't like it or see the reason for it, but at any party or gathering or anything where there's chocolate? She's sampling the fuck out of that snack table, and hovering over the bowl of sweets like a dragon guarding a hoard of treasure. She actually really likes fancy chocolates and truffles. If you bring them to her while in an established relationship, she won't act very different, but she's very happy and feels very loved.
I might do Halsin, Jaheira, Minsc, and Minthara later. Idk.

• November Seventh, Nineteen Eighty-Three
✦ Monday mornings were truly hellish. Classes felt longer yet, the rest of the day ran shorter. Your car takes forever to warm up, even after you kick the tires and curse at it. Some mornings the only thing getting you out of bed are your friends or the coffee sitting in the kitchen, waiting for you long after your father made it an hour ago.
This morning, it was the coffee.
"Johanna? Are you even listening?" The voice snaps me back into reality.
"Hm?" I blink at my shorter, curly-haired friend.
"Did you hear what I said?"
No, I did not.
"Yeah." I nod, removing the rim of my coffee lid from my lips. "You said, 'Something, Something, Steve this, Steve that, Something'."
The taller, red-headed girl beside me tried her hardest not to laugh at my comment but a small giggle escaped her. Meanwhile, my eyes flash around the hallway and past the parking lot doors, waiting for someone else this morning.
"I didn't say that."
"But I was close though? Right, Nance?"
She rolls her eyes playfully and shuts her locker. Just past her head, I spot Steve Harrington and his obnoxious friends approaching us.
"Morning ladies," Steve says, while only looking at Nancy.
Without much care, I lifted my cup over my mouth again when Barb looked at me, I put my finger in my mouth, pretending to gag at the scene. Nancy, Barbra, and I have been friends since fifth grade, so it's fair to say we know each other well.
"Someone looks jealous." Tommy H laughed, watching Barb and I.
"Not jealous per-say. Disgusted? Definitely." Barb shoves my rib softly, causing me to add. "No offense, Wheeler."
Apparently, that ruffled a few feathers but luckily, the bell for the first period rang and I could make a swift exit. As I walked into the classroom, I saw that most students were still waiting for Mrs. Young. Following in shortly behind me was Steve and Carol, Tommy's girlfriend, who is possibly the most annoying person I have ever met.
Steve sits in his seat right in front of me, blocking my entire view of the board with his immense hair. Ever since Nance developed this crush on him, I soon realized that he would be around regardless of whether or not I wanted him to be.
"Hey, did Nance tell you about tonight?" He asks, twisted in his chair to talk to me.
As I try to recall anything Nancy said this morning, I lick the bitter coffee residue off my lips.
"What's tonight?"
"I invited you guys over. It's a small get-together."
"Sounds like a party."
"Well, don't rat us out to your dad and maybe it can be." He smirks, trying to charm me.
"Actually I think he would enjoy a little party."
Steve rolls his eyes and then sighs, turning around in his chair when Mrs. Young walks into the room.
For as long as I have known Steve Harrington, he's been an entitled, silver-spoon-fed jerk. It wasn't until he learned that Nancy liked him that now he is trying to be a little less of a douchebag.
But still a douchebag, nonetheless.
After fifth period, on my way back to my locker, I saw Barb waiting for me. Just a few feet away stood Steve and Nance at Steve's locker, making heart eyes at each other and tripping over their words.
"What's with the long look, red?" I ask, nudging Barb's arm while I unlock my locker.
"Nothing it's..." She sighs, debating on if she should say what she's thinking. "It's just that Nance is so obsessed with Steve."
That might sound rash but lately, it seems like all Nancy ever wants to talk about is Steve.
"Yeah, like this past weekend when we were out shopping, all she only cared about finding a new sweater that Steve would like."
"Exactly! I mean, I get that but..."
Barb's voice started to fade into a void while we were heading to Nancy's locker because, in the teacher's lounge, I heard someone say my dad's name, making me stop dead in my tracks.
"Did you hear that Chief Hopper is looking for that Byers kid? Apparently, he didn't make it home last night."
Byers kid? Was it Jonathan or Will? Is that why Jonathan's not here? It has to be.
"Johanna, where are you-?"
"I gotta go! I'll see you later!"
I turned around and ran out the back doors to my car. Tapping my thumbs on my wheel, anxiously while I sped over to Jonathan's house.
There were so many questions but I was too afraid to know the answers. Jonathan's car was parked outside but Joyce's car was missing.
"Jonathan!" I shouted, knocking on the wooden door.
"Who is it-"
The door opened and I sprung myself onto him, hugging him tightly. He was stiff until he realized it was me, relaxing into the hug.
"Dude! You scared the shit out of me! I thought, thought that..." I mumbled into his neck.
"It's Will."
My heart plummeted; to my stomach as I pulled away to look at him. Wet tears still stained his cheeks.
"He's missing."
We went back to Jonathan's room. A song by The Smiths played when we walked in. He turned it down and we both slumped down on his bed.
I could not believe it. Will was the quietest and sweetest little boy, how could he have just disappeared?
"Last night, he was supposed to bike home from Mike's house-"
"Nancy's little brother?"
Mike, Will, and their two other friends were quite a few years younger than us. Seventh graders to be specific.
"Yeah. He and Mike play Dungeons and Dragons with two of their other friends, Lucas and Dustin."
"Okay, then what happened?"
"I'm not sure. For some reason, Will didn't come home last night and we haven't seen him this morning." He sighed. "My mom's downtown talking with your dad about it."
"Well, somehow people are starting to find out."
"Who told you?"
"No one. I overheard some teachers talking about it at lunch."
Jonathan nodded then rested his head on my shoulder. I know he would never ask me this but I am sure he's wondering if this is how I felt when my younger sister, Sarah passed away.
Our parents have known each other since high school but it wasn't until Sarah passed and my mom left that I grew close with Jonathan. Sure, we had met before or gone to the other's birthday parties but once we hit middle school, we started to hang out together.
We listened to The Smiths' whole album in silence; just sitting together. Neither of us said anything until we heard Joyce's car pull into the driveway.
"Oh, Johanna!" Joyce jumped when she saw me in the hallway with Jonathan. "I was just with your father... Did he... Did he tell you about..?"
"No, Jonathan did," I answered. We knew it was best not to tell Joyce that the news was being spread already. "Is there anything I can do to help out?"
"No, sweetie," Joyce says, lighting a cigarette; and taking a seat at their table. "If you hear anything from your dad, let us know."
I nod before saying goodbye to them.
The house was hollow when I returned. Most nights it was like this, Dad would work late at the station and I would be here alone. It was different when I was growing up. Don't get me wrong, I love my dad. We've had our fair share of bumpy roads behind us but now, we only have each other.
In the kitchen, the phone began to ring.
"Hello?" I answered, leaning against the fridge.
"Johanna..." Nance practically sings into the phone.
"Yes, Wheeler?"
"I need a favor."
"What favor?"
I already knew what she wanted. Nancy likely already called Barb and wants her to come with her to Steve's house.
"Will you come with Barb and me to Steve's house?"
"Harrington house? On a school night?" I say teasingly. "Wheeler, you rebel."
"C'mon, Johanna." She whined. "Please."
"I'm the daughter of the Chief, remember? They don't want me there."
"Steve does!"
I roll my eyes, popping a candy cane into my mouth.
"Yeah, so he can get into your pants."
She hesitates then says, "That's not true!"
"Sorry, Nance. Try and drown Carol for me."
And with that, she hung up.
The following morning, I waited by Barb's locker for fifteen minutes before the bell for first period rang and I realized, she wasn't there. It wasn't like her to miss school.
After fourth period, I finally ran into Nance in the girls' bathroom.
"Hey! Have you seen, Barb?" Nancy asked me.
"No, she wasn't in third," I answered her.
"She wasn't in homeroom either. I asked around and no one else has seen her today."
"Did you ask anyone from her band class?"
"No." She shakes her head. "I haven't seen her since We got to Steve's house last night then she just left."
"Without you?"
That was hard to believe, they are basically attached at the hip. Barb and I are close but they were on a whole other level.
"I went upstairs with Steve for a few minutes, then when I came back down she was gone."
I could understand why she would have left, especially if Nancy went upstairs with Harrington 'for a few minutes'.
"Try calling her house and I'll check the library."
Nancy nodded and we split up. The library was practically empty so even though I knew she wasn't in here, I still checked. On my way back to the courtyard, I ran into one of Barb's friends from band, Robin.
No, literally, I ran into her.
"Ouch! Where did you even come from?" She groaned, holding her shoulder.
"Sorry! Have you seen Barb today?" I asked her.
"Um, no but I'm heading to band practice so, I can let you..."
My brain tuned Robin's voice out because just right behind her head, across the parking lot, I saw Steve drop Jonathan's camera on the cement.
"I gotta go! Thanks!" I yelled before running away.
When I arrived, Steve and his friends were walking back inside with Nancy, leaving Jonathan to pick everything up.
"Nance!" I yelled, hoping she would stay.
"Sorry." She mouthed, following Steve back to the school.
Ripped photographs were lying there too. It didn't take a genius to figure out what these were of. One half-ripened photo of Nancy's naked back with Steve's bedroom walls in the background was under my foot.
"I swear I didn't mean to take those," Jonathan explained. "I was looking for Will last night and-"
"I believe you."
We picked up everything that we could of the camera pieces. That camera meant so much to him and it wasn't a cheap one either. Joyce worked many hours and saved up to get that for his birthday.
Jonathan left afterward, mumbling something about visiting his dad. Angrily, I went back to the school. Originally, I was looking for Nancy, but instead, I found Steve in the gymnasium.
"Harrington!" I yelled, causing all of the basketball players to stop their game and look over.
Reluctantly, he followed me out to the empty hallway.
"What?" He says, trying to come off as pissed.
"What the hell is your issue?" I hissed.
"Right now, it's you."
Is he joking right now? He has to be.
"I have no issue punching that so-called pretty face, Harrington. So, tread lightly." I glare, stepping forward.
The cocky look on his face made me even angrier. I've tried to give him the benefit of the doubt since Nance likes him but I have had it with him.
"That's because Daddy and his buddies down at the station wouldn't dare put cuffs on you." He says, leaning down a little in an attempt to intimidate me.
"Whatever." I scoff, turning around to leave. A larger hand reaches for my wrists, stopping me.
"Tell that little perv to stay away from Nance."
Without hesitation, I lifted my foot and kicked him in the shin. He cussed me out as he hunched over to rub the skin. I bent down enough to be leveled with his ear.
"Don't touch me."
I didn't expect to see my dad tonight so I made myself a snack before work. Forgetting dinner altogether. My vest sat on the couch while I looked around for the name tag. That's when the phone rang.
"Hello?" I answered, pulling the cord all the way to my room.
"Johanna? Hey, it's Nance."
"Hey, I can't talk for long. I have to work tonight. What's up?"
"I called Barb's house but her mom said she doesn't know where she is."
Shit. I tuned out most of what Nancy was saying after that. My heart started pounding in my chest, Will and Barb? Both missing?
"...So, can you try and talk to your dad? Maybe he can find something out."
"Um, yeah. I'll talk to him the next time I see him."
I hung up and raced to the station, forgetting the name tag completely at this point. The police station was fifteen minutes away, and I made it there in under ten.
"Donna! I need to talk to my father!" I told her as soon as I walked in.
"He's not here, honey." She said, not even looking up at me from her desk.
"It's urgent."
"Then file a police report."
Half of me was tempted to jump the counter instead, I walked back to my dad's office to see if he was back there still. Donna was right, he was already gone.
"He's out looking for the Byers boy. I can leave a message." She sighs, following me in here.
"Never mind. I'll talk to him later at home." I huffed, storming out.
"You really are his daughter." She scoffed.
I know, I shouldn't have acted that way but I couldn't help it. Barb was missing and I needed to tell him as soon as possible.
The car was freezing the rest of the way to work. Stupid heat was going out again. When I arrived at work, I got out and hit my tires, mumbling curse words under my breath at it.
"Do you need some help?" The voice startled me.
"No, thanks," I said, turning around. "Robin?"
"Yeah." She laughed, throwing it in the bin.
"You're working here now?"
"Looks like it."
It would be nice to have another girl working here with me. Right now it's only me, Keith, and Nick.
"Did they seriously make you take the trash out in the snow?" I asked, joining her by the dumpster to help her lift the bags.
"Yeah." She laughs, tossing another in.
"Assholes."
We laughed together and headed back into the theater.
"Theater Two, on the left. Enjoy your movie." My voice was flat like the Coca-Cola Robin dispensed into the cups.
"Did you see Barb at band practice today? After I talked to you?" I asked her after everyone else in the lobby left.
"No. Is everything okay?" Her back was still turned, filling up the popcorn machine again.
"Yeah, I just haven't heard from her."
Robin nodded her head but didn't say much after. Keith called her to his office, leaving me in the lobby for a few minutes. I didn't want to lie to her but, I wasn't sure if my hunch was right.
Nick comes up behind me, making me jump.
"Dude, you scared me," I said, noticing the seriousness in his face.
"Johanna..."
There's this dreaded look on Nick's face even though he's avoiding my eyes.
"The cops... um, they found the Byers boy... he didn't make it."
This had to be fake.
Yet, it felt so real.
The following few minutes were hazy. I grabbed my keys and ran out to the parking lot. Robin said something about covering my last few hours for me.
All those years that I mourned a sister I barely got to know, came hurling back at me but only worse because I knew Will. The summers I spent babysitting him, hanging out with him and Jonathan after school, all the memories we had. Moments I can't get back.
The station wasn't far from work and Dad's cop car was parked out front when I pulled in.
"Dad? Where's my dad?" I asked Donna again. I must look like a mess with the empathetic look she gave me before pointing to his office.
"Dad, I heard... I heard about, about Will." I barely choked out.
He let me sob in his arms until I was ready to let go but the truth is, I never want to let go.

Steve hasn't celebrated Christmas properly for many years because his parents are never home, and if they do show, it'll be a few days before, and they don't usually stay for new years. Because of this, Steve no longer has the urge to put up decorations. He doesn't bother with Christmas dinners or ugly sweaters or any usual traditions. But deep down, he loves Christmas. The lights, the trees, music, and snow are something a part of him still looks forward to every year he just knows he'll probably be spending it alone. Until he dates Nancy and the Wheelers, let him join them for Christmas and the years after Dustin and his mother would welcome him, although at times he felt like he was imposing he felt grateful he also made sure he bought presents for everyone all the kids and Nancy, Johnathan and eventually Robin he would also help cook for whoever he was staying with he wanted to make sure he was the perfect house guest so he would be invited back next year.
When he and Eddie started dating, Steve half expected he would be invited over at Christmas. Their relationship was going strong they were attached at the hip, and Wayne was very tolerant of them, and he seemed to like him, so he was hoping it would be offered. Except it wasn't November came and left, then it was December 1st, then 4th, then 8th, then 16th, and Eddie hadn't said anything. Which was fine. Christmas is a family thing, after all, and they had been dating for only 4 months. However, Robin and her family were going out of town this year, and Dustin and his mother were hosting his Aunt and Grandma and Steve didn't want to take up anymore space but he couldn't help but feel a tiny pang of rejection and grimacing at the idea of spending Christmas alone in his quiet, dark house.
On the 23rd of December, Steve was sitting in his room. Robin had already left, and family video had closed for the holidays, and Steve figured he shouldn't bother Eddie since it was so close to Christmas. He tried to distract himself by reading a book, wrapping presents he would give out on boxing day, but there was only so much he could do before his mind drifted back, too, his depressing reality. Just as Steve thought about pulling back the covers and spending the next 2 days in bed, the doorbell rang. He went downstairs and opened the door to reveal his boyfriend smiling widely at him.
"Eddie! Hi, I didn't know you were coming over, " Steve said, letting him in.
"Yeah, I wanted to surprise you, baby," Eddie said, stepping through the front door and kissing Steve on the cheek. "I have your christmas present"
Steve glanced at the poorly wrapped box Eddie was gripping with excitement.
"Oh Ed's you didn't have to-"
"Shhh, of course I had too it's Christmas, and you're my boyfriend now where is your tree?" Eddie said, venturing into the living room
"Um..." Steve trailed off suddenly embarrassed by the lack of decoration.
"Wow, you've left decorating really late are you waiting for your parents or something?"
"T-they're not coming"
"What?"
"They're not coming back for Christmas," Steve stated
"Oh my god baby, I'm so sorry," Eddie said, placing his gift on the coffee table and giving his boyfriend a hug
"It's alright Eddie really" Steve chuckled "They haven't spent Christmas with me in years so-"
"Years?!" Eddie said, eyes widening. "So you've been by yourself every year?"
"No, Dustin and Robin have invited me over, but neither of them could this year"
"Why didn't you ask me?" Eddie said sounding a little heartbroken
"I don't know a part of me thought you might ask first and then I thought Christmas is a family thing so you probably want to be with Wayne only"
"Stevie, you are my family too. I love you," Eddie said sincerely.
Steve couldn't stop the tears from welling in his eyes the way Eddie spoke so gently and rested his palm on Steve's cheek.
"I'm sorry." Was all Steve could manage not exactly sure what he was apologising for. Eddie shushed him and cleared his throat.
"Steve Harrington," Eddie started. "Would you please make me the happiest man alive and join me and my uncle for Christmas?"
"Yes," Steve said, laughing at the end.
Eddie and Steve didn't waste a second gathering some of Steve's things, the presents he wrapped, and drove back to the trailer park. Wayne was more than happy to have Steve over for Christmas, especially since he had an extra pair of hands in the kitchen. Eddie and Steve cuddled up on the couch that evening, their mugs of hot chocolate cooling on the coffee table. Eddie pressed a kiss to Steve's forehead.
"Merry Christmas, Stevie"
"Merry Christmas, Ed's"

Hi there i have been reading your blog for an hour now and im obsessed. Your writing is amazing. May i please request gn! Mc who was just in a fight, and got badly injured, but doesn’t care. So they ask the demon/angel there yo cuddle?
Im so so so sorry of this doesn’t make sense im very tired xD
Preferred characters you can ignore this well the entire request too xD (lucifer, satan, belphie, dia, barb, and simeon)
Here is a cat to keep you company his name is mr. Whisp 🐈
Hello there!
Oh thank you, I'm so glad you're enjoying my writing! (Also thank you for Mr. Whisp I love him.)
Okay, so I wrote these as little scenes instead of the usual bulleted list style, I hope that's okay! They did end up a little longer because of that, though. I did it that way because you requested specific characters and it's easier to write little scenes for fewer characters rather than all of them.
Thank you for the request!
Tumblr media
GN!MC gets hurt in a fight, but doesn't care and just wants cuddles with Lucifer, Satan, Belphie, Diavolo, Barbatos, and Simeon
Warnings: MC is hurt! Bruises, blood, general injuries, talk of fighting.

Lucifer
You were standing in front of Lucifer, summoned to his room after he inevitably heard from several of his brothers about the state you were in. You had shown up at the House of Lamentation covered in scrapes and bruises. They all noticed how you were walking with a slight limp and the dark circle that was forming up under one of your eyes.
You had considered blowing him off when you got the message on your D.D.D. that he wanted to see you immediately. You didn't really feel like listening to a lecture about getting into fights. And yet you knew that if you put it off, it'd only be worse later. And secretly you wanted to see him.
Lucifer was observing you with a dark expression, clearly looking over your various injuries.
You kept your arms folded, chin up, and said, "You wanted to see me?"
He didn't say anything at first. You weren't sure if this meant he was so angry he couldn't speak or if he was just trying to make you nervous.
"Explain," he said at last.
You sighed. "I got into a little fight, it was no big deal."
Lucifer quickly closed the distance between you. He took hold of your chin and tilted your face this way and that. "No big deal? MC, you have a black eye. I think perhaps you've also injured your ankle in some way. Do you really think it's okay to risk yourself like this?"
You frowned up at him. "I can handle myself. Just because I got hurt doesn't mean I didn't win the fight."
Lucifer shook his head in exasperation. "That is not the point. Surely the issue could have been resolved without you getting hurt."
You softened a little. "You don't have to worry about me so much, you know."
Lucifer let go of your chin, tracing the tips of his fingers down your cheek lightly. "How can I not when you come in here looking like this? I know you can take care of yourself, but it really is a problem if you-"
You cut him off, catching his hand and stepping in even closer. "Lecture me later. Right now, can't you just hold me?"
You saw his resolve break as his expression changed. He wrapped his arms around you gently, careful to avoid aggravating your injuries. He pressed a kiss to your forehead, unable to hold back as his worry for you spilled over.
"We will treat your injuries shortly," he said into your hair. "And MC, you will not worry me like this again."
You smiled to yourself at this blatant admission of his concern for you. The warmth of his arms was more than enough to make you feel as though you were healing already. You later heard all about how he hunted down those who hurt you (though you could never figure out how he knew who they were). Those demons were never heard from again.
Satan
You sat down across the table from Satan at the library of RAD. There was nobody else around - it was late in the afternoon and all the other students had long since gone home. You knew Satan was there late, taking his time studying for an upcoming curses and hexes exam. You had agreed to meet him there at some point, since you needed to study for that exam as well.
Satan looked up as you sat down and instantly reached out across the table, grabbing your wrist.
"MC," he said, his voice low. "What happened? Who did this to you?"
You knew he was reacting to the bruises on your face and the cut across your forehead that was currently still bleeding a little.
"I'm fine," you said, shrugging a little and pulling your wrist out of his grip. "I just had to take care of something on my way here. Now are we going to study some hexes or what?"
Satan stared at you with wide eyes for a moment. You watched as his face changed, his eyes going dark and his teeth clenching. You could see where this was going and sure enough, he was suddenly in demon form. He half stood out of his chair, leaning across the table and growling.
"Who was it?" he demanded. You could see the tip of his tail twitch just above the table, unexpectedly free rather than wrapped securely around his leg.
You weren't scared because you knew he was contemplating tearing some other demons limb from limb for doing this to you. His reaction was a little over the top, but nothing you weren't expecting. This was Satan, after all.
"I know you're upset," you said. "But it really isn't anything you need to worry about." You placed your hand over one of his, leaning forward yourself to meet him.
His death glare only cooled slightly. "You can't show up to a study session with injuries like that and expect me not to worry, MC."
"I can if I'm telling you that you don't need to worry," you said adamantly. "I need you to trust me. And honestly, it would help me a lot more if you would calm down and give me a hug than if you went off the rails right now."
He was struck by your words, and they caused him to sit back down. Slowly, his demon form left him and he was back in his RAD uniform. The anger still smoldered in his eyes, but it was in competition with how much he cared for you.
Satan closed his eyes, clearly fighting with himself to push down the wrath that continued to simmer in him. After a few moments and some deep breaths, he opened his eyes again. He came around the table, gently taking your hands and pulling you out of your chair.
His eyes roamed over the cut on your forehead, but he wrapped his arms around your waist, pulling you into his chest. You pressed yourself to him, letting your own arms return the embrace. The pain of injuries seemed to fade away entirely as you let him comfort you.
You pulled your head away just a little to look at him and as you did so, you saw a splotch of red against the grey fabric of his uniform. "I'm sorry," you said. "I got blood on your uniform."
Satan sighed and pulled you even closer to him, resting his head on your shoulder. "What am I going to do with you, MC? Promise me you'll be more careful. I hate to see you hurt like this."
"I promise I'll be more careful," you said. It was a promise you felt you could keep.
Belphegor
You moved as quietly as you could through the halls of the House of Lamentation, avoiding any of the brothers you came across. You were on your way to the planetarium to meet up with Belphie and you didn't want any of the others to see the state you were in. So you kept to the shadows, moving along the walls until you came to your destination.
You slipped into the room and smiled at Belphie as he looked up at you. He had been nearly dozing off, so he was still a little bleary.
"There you are," he said with a yawn. "You're late."
"I'm sorry," you said, hoping the room was dark enough that he hadn't noticed your cuts and bruises. You sat down next to him, making sure you stayed partly in shadow. "I lost track of the time."
"Hmm, fine, I'll forgive you this time," Belphie said, rubbing at his eyes.
You laughed softly. "Gee, thanks."
Belphie leaned against your shoulder sleepily. You winced. You didn't mean to, but your shoulder was still sore in that spot.
Belphie noticed instantly. He sat up straight and looked at you carefully, the sleepiness suddenly gone. "MC… is that… a black eye?"
You shrugged. "I don't know what you're talking about."
Belphie frowned. "It is. You're hurt." He tugged on your arm a little to move you more into the light. You knew he could now see how banged up you really were. "MC! What happened to you?"
"Don't worry about it," you said. "It's not a big deal."
Belphie scoffed. "You got into a fight, didn't you? At least tell me that you gave worse than you got."
"Of course I did," you said.
Belphie stood up. "Hang on," he said. "I'll be right back. Then you should tell me about it."
Belphie was gone for only a few minutes, coming back with a first aid kit in tow. He sat back down next to you and opened it, pulling out a disinfectant wipe. He started to wipe down the scrapes on your face. It stung only a little.
"So? What happened? Did some demons insult you or something?" he asked.
"Yeah," you said. "Well, they said some things that I couldn't just ignore and things escalated quickly. But I can promise you they're suffering worse injuries than I am."
Belphie smirked. "I'm not happy about you being hurt," he said seriously. "But I can't pretend I'm not proud of you, either. You should let us handle stuff like that for you, MC. I know you can take care of yourself, but I don't know if it's worth you getting hurt like this."
Belphie carefully put a bandage over the largest cut.
"It's really no big deal," you said. "Especially since I have you to take care of me."
Belphie frowned, a soft blush creeping across his face. He sighed and put his arms around you. "Just because I'll patch you up doesn't mean you should go around getting yourself hurt."
You leaned into his embrace, nuzzling into him while still being careful of your injuries. "I know. Thank you for taking care of me, Belphie."
Although Belphie stayed by your side that night, you later heard rumors about those particular demons being plagued by nightmares.
Diavolo
You ducked into an empty classroom, having finally gotten away from the scene of the fight. You were covered in scratches and bruises and your lip was bleeding. You had eventually escaped the pandemonium after landing a particularly well thrown punch and running while your opponent was dazed. Now you could take a moment to breathe and figure out what you needed to do for your injuries.
You turned around from the classroom door and froze in shock. Diavolo was standing there in the middle of the room, looking just as shocked as you felt. He stared at you for a long moment, taking in your disheveled appearance, and the blood still dripping down your chin.
"MC," he said and the darkness of his voice sent a shiver down your spine. He came toward you. He put one hand on your arm and lifted the other to wipe the blood off of your bottom lip. He let his touch linger there. "Did a student do this to you?"
You considered telling him exactly which demons you had been dealing with. But then you thought about how you weren't entirely blameless. You engaged with them, after all, and there was no doubt that you'd left a few of them injured.
"Please don't worry about it," you said. "It wasn't like I couldn't handle it."
Diavolo sighed. "That isn't the point, I'm afraid," he said. "It's against RAD policy to fight on the grounds."
You smirked a little. "Are you going to give me detention?"
Diavolo laughed. The sound filled you with a feeling of warmth and contentment. It was his usual laugh and it let you know that everything would be okay. "I don't think that will be necessary," he said. "But if there are students picking fights, I'll have to do something about it."
You put your hand on his where it still lingered by your bloody lip. "You can do something about it later, can't you? I could really use a hug right now."
Diavolo put his hand gently on your cheek then wrapped his other arm around you, pulling you close to him. After a moment he put his other arm around you, too, keeping you safe and warm in his embrace.
"I am so sorry this happened to you, MC," he said into your hair. "Please come back to the castle with me so I can be sure your injuries are properly cared for."
You pressed your cheek against his chest. "Are you really that worried about me? I can handle myself."
"I don't doubt you," he said. "But I would feel much better knowing you are being taken care of. Won't you indulge me?"
It wasn't like you could really refuse him. Especially not when you looked into his gold eyes and saw the deep concern there. So you would allow him to take you back to the castle, where you would stay for the rest of the night. You later heard about the rules regarding fighting at RAD becoming more strict.
Barbatos
You pressed your fingertips into your cheek in an attempt to stop the bleeding from a small cut you had gotten there. You felt that it was the most prominent wound, since it was right on your face, and while you couldn't exactly cover up all your bruises, you hoped you could at least stop the bleeding.
You were waiting for Barbatos in the gardens of the Demon Lord's Castle where you were meeting him for tea.
You weren't delusional. You knew you couldn't hide what had happened from Barbatos. But you still thought it would be better if you weren't actively bleeding.
When Barbatos finally arrived, he was carrying a tray of tea and pastries in his hands. The moment he saw you, he nearly dropped the tray, catching himself just in time. Still it tipped enough for a teacup to go flying off the edge, falling to the ground and smashing into tiny pieces.
You gasped and stood up, an unexpected reaction to the shattered teacup. "Oh don't worry, I can fix that," you said.
You couldn't look at Barbatos as you cast the spell to repair the cup. The pieces lifted into the air and fused back together. The cup landed in your palm, whole again. You straightened up and brought the cup over to where Barbatos was still standing, setting it on the tray before meeting his eyes.
There was an unmistakable aura of distress around him, even though his expression remained neutral. He carefully placed the tray on the table you had previously been sitting at.
"Thank you, MC," he said. "I'm afraid I lost my composure for a moment. I apologize for my clumsiness."
You had to hold in a laugh. Of course he would apologize to you for that. "Don't worry about it," you said.
You were about to sit back down at the table when he caught your arm. "I must inquire about your current state, MC."
You shrugged. "It's nothing important," you said. "Just a little altercation I was in on the way here. But I'm fine."
"I must disagree," Barbatos said. To your complete shock, he touched your cheek, leaving a smudged red stain on his spotless white gloves.
"Barbatos!" you cried, taking his hand. "You're getting my blood all over your gloves!"
It wasn't like Barbatos to allow his gloves to get dirty.
"A small matter compared to the fact that you are currently bleeding, MC," Barbatos said calmly. "You must allow me to tend to these wounds."
You sighed, squeezing his hand in both of yours. "All right. But first won't you…" You blushed, a little embarrassed to ask him to hold you.
But Barbatos knew what you wanted to say. He pulled you down into his lap as he sat down in one of the chairs by the table. You rested your head on his shoulder as he wrapped his arms around you, gently kissing your neck. Much later, he would bandage you up and give you some healing tea. But in that moment, his touch was like the magic you had used on the teacup - making you feel whole again.
Simeon
You fidgeted outside the door to Purgatory Hall. You had come here to spend some time with Simeon, studying while he worked on his latest novel. It was something you had gotten into the habit of doing recently. You were currently concerned about running into Luke and scaring him with the sight of your injuries.
You decided to send Simeon a message on your D.D.D. letting him know you were outside.
He sent you back a question mark sticker, clearly confused about why you didn't just knock on the door.
You waited for a moment instead of responding and the door opened to reveal Simeon, his expression just as confused as the sticker he sent.
"MC?" he asked. Then he got a decent look at you. "Oh, MC. What happened to you?" He grabbed your hand, pulling you inside.
"I'm fine," you said. "Can we just go to your room so I can study?"
Simeon frowned, but he did as you asked. He held your hand tightly as he led you down the hall to his room.
Fortunately, you didn't run into any of the other Purgatory Hall occupants.
When you reached his room, Simeon sat you down on his bed as he stood before you, fingers lightly touching the largest bruise on your face.
"I told you, I'm fine," you said again. "I just didn't want to scare Luke, that's all."
"I appreciate that you were concerned about Luke, MC," Simeon said. "But you really should be worried about yourself, too. These injuries are serious. They need treatment."
You groaned a little and leaned forward, letting your forehead rest on his stomach. "I knew you'd be worried about it," you said. "But I'm fine. And anyway, I'll really start to feel better if you just hold me for a bit."
Simeon chuckled. He gently pushed your head back to make you look up at him. "I could never say no to that," he said. "But you really should let me take care of this later." He let his fingers hover over the various places where you had developed bruises.
"Later," you agreed.
Simeon shook his head, but he sat beside you on the bed. He took you in his arms, leaning back against the pillows so you were lying on his chest. He ran his fingers down your back and kissed the top of your head.
"You really should be more careful in the Devildom, MC," he said.
You snuggled into him more. "It's fine. I can handle myself."
"I have no doubt of that," Simeon said. "But I'd rather you didn't get injured. I can only imagine how the demons you fought are faring."
"Let's just say they'll think twice before messing with me again," you said.
Simeon sighed, but he only held you a little closer.

Six months ago today, your gaunt figure limped through Jackson for the first time, arms scarred and trembling, and face adorned with a vacant expression. You’ve been here for a while now.
You heard Maria say, with time, you’d come out of your shell - actually speak to the others. But, no, you still stay holed up in your decaying room, recalling what happened that day obsessively, and only ever leaving to go on patrol. Only when you absolutely have to.
God, you don’t even know if you can call this grief anymore. Seems as though you built a nest in the sorrow. Would it still be considered missing him if you desperately want to stop seeing his face whenever you close your eyes.
Fuck, don't say that. Never say that.
Promise I still love you, big brother. Promise I'd do anything to see you again.
Well, nobody really pays you any mind; you just sink into the shadows of the shitty little apartment you've been put in. And it doesn’t matter to you because the thought of getting close to people again makes you sick anyway.
Never wanna feel this pain. Never again. Fuck, just go away, please.
I'm so sorry, Soren.
You’ve waited it out for months but, at this point, you've given up hope. Feels like maybe it’s time to go be on your own. You know it’s dumb, but you haven’t got much to live for now that he’s gone.
Late night, you crawl into the comfort of misery, chaining yourself to each painful memory; you cannot leave a single shard behind. Not one.
You will carry this with you for the rest of your days.
Somewhere along the line, dark fades to light and your mind goes blank for the first time in an eternity as you get up to follow that same routine.
Today, same as yesterday, and yesterday's yesterday, and yesterday's yesterday's yesterday, etc., etc., your partner is Ellie.
Maria seems to think the two of you are acquaintances, especially since the extroverted people around your age hadn't been able to drag much more than a few words out of you, but you don’t really talk, you stay out of each other’s ways.
You struggle to keep the smile up against the pushback of your aching cheeks when you’re talking to other people. Can never let them see.
Not even for a good reason. God, it’s just such an effort to talk about. It’s better for it to just nestle in your mind, where it’s made it’s home, where it’s comfortable.
Maybe part of why you stay out of each other’s ways is because you'd inadvertently come off as a dick during your first encounter, which would've been enough to push the already closed off Ellie to not interact with you at all. You weren't actually being rude though; she's hopefully figured that out at this point. She probably just got used to the interactions between you; silence dusted with passive aggressive remarks.
But, she doesn’t say much when you freak the fuck out if a clicker comes at you in a way that brings back memories. You’re grateful, regardless of her reason for doing so.
Perhaps it's the thought of leaving that is the spur to prick your sudden violence and, now, even you can tell you're getting worse. The feeling - it ensnares you like a bear trap when you see a clicker, so you fire frantically at its head. Blood splatters all over your front and you pull at the hem of your shirt to get a better look, mumbling, "Shit..." when you see the white fabric soaked through with the clicker's blood; cold water to the face.
Among the chaos, you must have turned on your foot weirdly, because your ankle feels like a stake has been stabbed right through it with each movement and you don’t know if you can walk.
Ellie finally manages to trace the sound of the gunshot to you after calling your name in worry for the past couple of minutes, running over to you. She pulls you around and looks over your jittery body for anything to worry about - brushes a thumb over the wet material, jerking it away before you can notice; you’re hyper aware, so you always manage to anyway - and then furrows her brows at you.
“Can you stop fucking around?”
You nod apologetically,
"Sorry. Feeling a bit out of it today..."
She sighs, still clearly angry, and turns away, "Let's go. We’re done here.”
You watch her figure retreat as you mount your horse with shaky footing. The ride back is a silent one. Once you reach the gates, you get off and pat the horse’s side. It has a name; you never cared to learn it. Maybe you knew you couldn’t stick around for long.
“Come on. Why are you just standing there?"
When your eyes meet hers, you feel utterly pathetic, but you don't have much of a choice.
“Can you… find, like, a stick? A big one...”
She stays quiet for a moment, seemingly thrown off by your question, so you're quick to add,
“I would do it but... I don't know, fuck, never mind...”
Ellie raises an eyebrow at you, her line of sight flicking down to your ankle as she takes note of your awkward stance and mutters with a sigh that makes you feel small, "Pain in the ass," before shaking her head.
"Yeah, it looks pretty bad," Ellie says after she crouches down and touches the wound, eliciting a pained wince (and a farewell to your last shred of dignity) from you.
She rises to her feet and brushes herself off as you wait for more of a response.
"Stick, right? You want a stick?"
You nod with a clenched jaw. She keeps looking down at you and the constant anticipation is starting to piss you off.
"No, you gonna ask for what you really need?" she says. "And drop the whole ‘tough guy’ act?"
You chuckle dryly, turning your eyes to the floor.
"You ever considered that maybe I actually am just a tough guy?"
“Ha ha,” she states in monotone, “Think you gave away the fact that you're not when you started crying over a twisted ankle," to which you raise an eyebrow at her.
“Uh, okay, nothing you just said was true, but, sure. Sure.”
“Yeah? Come over here and say that with some heart then, tough guy.”
You manage to take a few steps before falling.
"Yeah, that’s what I thought. Gonna need to be carried back," Ellie says.
“What about the big ass stick?”
“What is i-Fuck. Listen, even if that helps, which it won’t, you’d wreck your ankle even more and everyone’d be on my ass about it. So, quit talking and get over here," she says, reaching over to lift you off the floor.
You grimace jokingly, but Ellie doesn’t pick on the humorous nature of your words, “Oh. No piggyback?”
Ellie sighs, turning and crouching in front of you before you get on.
"I swear to god, you're infuriating," she sneers. "Now put your arms around my neck."
You’re acting slightly outside the confines of your silent, gloomy self again, and pretend to strangle her, “Since you asked so nicely.”
And you laugh at your own joke as you properly wrap your arms around her neck
"I'm glad you're having a good time; at least one of us is enjoying ourselves,” she grits out but you can hear the repressed smile in her voice.
“Okay, okay, I’m sorry.”
"Good. Now shut up and enjoy the ride." Ellie says before turning her gaze back to the front.
As the two of you make your way through the fairly empty paths of Jackson, Ellie remains silent, her expression unreadable.
You keep your eyes focused on her, the small puff of air that leaves her mouth with each step, and staying quiet as your chin finds itself resting casually upon her shoulder
After a few minutes of walking in silence, Ellie finally speaks up again. Her voice is so close, the warmth of her breath and heat.
“You got them girls off your ass yet?”
“Who? The ones that are trying to... befriend me?”
“Mhm, the ones that you’re kinda friends with.”
“Yeah, they quit trying.”
"Don’t blame you… I mean, I can understand, but don’t make it too obvious.”
“I’d rather not-“
“Right, it’s just- well, if you want to be alone, fine. I… can even… make sure those assholes don’t bother you, or whatever- but, not on patrol! Don’t go wandering around on your own like that ever again. It’s dumb."
“I know, I just got caught up in the moment. Sorry.”
"Good."
A heavy silence befalls the two of you as she trudges on.
"Why are you so damn heavy?" she eventually mutters.
You lift your head off her shoulder reflexively, aware of your weight pulling her down all of a sudden,
“Sorry.”
Ellie looks over her shoulder at you, her eyebrows knitted in unexpected concern,
“Hey… I was kidding.”
“Right… I knew that…”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever," she says. "Hm, look at that, we made it," gently patting your thigh before pushing the doors open. "Time to get off."
You slowly slide off her back, making sure to land on your good leg as you watch her search the area curiously in a waiting, one-footed stance.
She returns after a second, picking you up to place you on top of one of the quaint, makeshift hospital beds before she begins rummaging through the supplies. You watch her muscles flex and then, the sight of a woman you'd seen around captures your focus.
"What happened to her?" the woman asks, causing Ellie to lift her head, looking down at you.
"Twisted my ankle."
"Well, obviously," her tone is laced with sarcasm. "My question was how you twisted your ankle."
"Turned weird."
Your response earns you a bemused raise of her blonde eyebrows, "Alright, whatever," she says, pulling up a chair and sitting before you.
After a short, boring while, she lets go of your leg and looks up at you again,
"So, you got a sprain. I'm gonna have to wrap your ankle up, alright?"
A lock of her hair continuously pesters her as she begins carefully tending to your ankle, pulling fresh bandages taut around the injury.
"It's gonna stay sensitive for a few days," the woman states, "And you shouldn't walk on it for at least a week."
She places a hand upon Ellie's shoulder, pulling her out of the deep-end of her thoughts, and turning her away from you. A muffled, but aggressive, hushed conversation ensues between them as you glance around the room restlessly, only making out the irritated tone of Ellie's responses. It ends with her pinching her nose bridge and mumbling a, "Fine," and they're facing you again.
The woman gives the two of you a nod before exiting the room,
"You two be safe out there."
“Alright. I’ll take you home. Now, get on," she turns, arms out, backpack on her front, as she waits for you to get onto her back again.
The route to your place is short and quiet as night blankets the world, or what’s left of it. Before you know it, she's pushing open the door and setting you down on yet another tattered bed - your own.
You hiss at the contact your ankle makes with the bed, but Ellie seems unfazed, patting your thigh in the same way she did before, the way that made your stomach twist,
“You gonna be okay?”
You nod, though her deadpan tone doesn’t leave much room for the honest truth.
“Alright, well… I’ll get going, then.”
There’s a stark contrast in life between her coming and going; the constant rustling of the fabric of her coat and the sound of her heavy winter boots against your creaky floorboards, the sound of her sniffles and low voice, and the flurry of gusts of nippy winds whistling - all shut out with the cold of the outside once she closes the door behind her. Well, most of it.
Now, you’re left with the bite of cold air and the deafening silence that haunts you as you sit still upon your mattress with darkness cast over the room, seeming to melt everything together.

SUMMARY: When you get hit on by a weird stranger at a bar, Noah finds himself unable to contain his feelings any longer.

Laughing, you ran with your best friend, Noah, through the late summer rain, your destination the bar about 200 meters in front of you.
“Wait!” You shouted after him as he sprinted away. “I can’t keep up with you, giraffe!”
“Did you just call me giraffe?” He wanted to know. He held his chest as if you had shot him with your words.
You were still laughing when you finally came to a stop in front of the bar. You leaned your head against his chest as you tried to contain your breaths and laughter, totally forgetting about the rain around you.
You hadn’t seen Noah in a while, since he was away for tour for almost three months. When you first met years ago at a small concert of his band, you were basically attached at the hip as soon as he came home from tour. In fact, it was so bad that your friends started calling you an old married couple.
At first you laughed it off but as soon as you really put your mind into it, you started to see it too. You were acting like an old married couple. You in fact did almost everything that would make people think you are a couple, except of the physical aspects like kissing or been intimate.
So, when you stepped inside the bar you chose for tonight, it wasn’t weird that he held your hand as he guided you to a free table.
You sat side by side at the table, your bodies almost touching, but not quite. The space between you felt charged with energy, but neither of you dared to acknowledge it. The air was thick with desire, the longing in your hearts growing stronger with each passing moment.
As the evening unfolded, you couldn't help but steal glances at Noah when he wasn't looking. His dark hair framed his handsome face, and his eyes, like twin pools of endless depth, held a hint of something he hadn't yet expressed. You admired the way his lips curved when he smiled, the way his laughter resonated in your soul. Every stolen look, every accidental touch, only fueled the growing fire inside you.
Noah, too, was trapped in a whirlwind of emotions. He couldn't concentrate on anything but you. The way your eyes sparkled with mischief, the softness of your voice when you spoke, and the way you laughed as if the world had no hold on you—it all consumed him. He found himself longing for something more, something he couldn't quite put into words and also didn’t dare to even try for the risk of your friendship.
He loved your company. In fact, he loved it so much that he almost started to crave it when he was away. “Coming home” started to become “coming back to you” for him.
The night carried on, and the tension between you continued to build. You both enjoyed having each other around again. The air felt electric, charged with unspoken words and unfulfilled desires.
Than something, or better someone, distraught you little bubble of happiness and closeness. When Noah went to the bathroom, a stranger sauntered up to the table you were seated at. The stranger’s eyes fixated on you, causing to form an unpleasant goose bumps on your body. The guy’s grin was flirtatious as he struck up a conversation. Since you did not know how you’d get rid of him, you engaged in polite small talk, trying to let the stranger's innuendos fly over your head.
When Noah made his way back to your table, his heart twisted painfully as he watched this stranger invade his personal space with you. Noah felt how this fierce and possessive emotion crept up inside of him, even though he knew he had no right to feel that way. You could do whatever you wanted. You weren’t his girlfriend. But in situations like this, he wished you were. He couldn't stand the thought of someone else capturing your attention, of someone else making you smile and laugh.
Driven by an impulse he couldn't contain, Noah slid his arm around your waist while sitting down even closer next to you, pulling you to him. You felt how your cheeks heated up. His touch was possessive, a silent declaration to the stranger that you were off-limits. He shot a glare at the intruder, his voice low and laced with a hint of warning. "Sorry, but they're with me."
You turned to look at Noah, a mixture of surprise and gratitude in your eyes. The stranger, unimpressed by Noah's presence, attempted to continue his advances. "Come on, sweetheart," he said, his tone dripping with charm. "A pretty thing like you deserves someone who can show you a good time."
You felt how Noah’s grip on your waist tightened and he spoke with a hint of irritation. "I don't think they're interested. You should probably find someone else to bother."
You were taken aback by the protective edge in Noah's voice. The stranger, finally getting the hint, backing away reluctantly and leaving the two of you alone once more.
Noah's heart still raced as he met your gaze, his eyes revealing vulnerability he'd never shown before. "I couldn't stand seeing someone else hit on you," he confessed, his voice trembling slightly when he saw your surprised look.
A warmth spread through your chest as you realized the depth of Noah's feelings. "Noah," you whispered and laid a hand on his chest as he turned to face you better, your heart pounding in your chest. "I couldn't stand it either."
You noticed how his eyes flickered to your lips for a second. You felt like you were on fire when you gathered your courage and leaned a bit towards him, inviting him.
With that, the barriers between you crumbled, and you both leaned in, closing the gap between your lips. The kiss was electric, a culmination of years of pent-up emotions and unspoken desires. You felt light-headed when he grasped your face and pulled you even closer. When you finally pulled away, breathless, you smiled at each other, a shared understanding passing between you.
In that moment, you both understood that your friendship had transformed into something deeper and more profound way before this event. You were no longer just friends; you were two souls hopelessly in love, ready to explore the unknown territory of your relationship.
No one spoke a word as you smiled like idiots and held hands, continuing to enjoy your night. You couldn’t help but think that under some rare exceptional circumstances jealousy maybe had its perks. It had pushed you both to finally admit what had been feeling in your hearts all along, and now, you were free to explore the love that had been waiting for you all this time.

Can you do a euronymous x guitarist reader where she is in slipknot and mayhem keeps playing the same gigs and euronymous sees her playing and falls in love
Guitar and Bands
Tumblr media
Warning : falling/being in love, kinda fluff
Info : So here its is for you @iminlovewithmycarrrr hope you like it and I hope I did Slipknot some justice since I did not listen to them. Everyone have fun reading ;)
masterlist , rory culkins - masterlist
Disclaimer : I don't want to glorify anything, it's about the actors who play a role, not the real events.
--------------------
He knew the band, he knew every single damn one of the members, knew their names, where they were born, old hell even what they all ate and drank.
He admired the band that had only existed a few years longer than they had, but was just as well known. The masks were what fascinated them all, especially the band's founder. They could have been the riders of the apocalypse.
As if this evil force had come out of the dark, putrid depths of hell. But the biggest mystery of all was the mysterious guitar player with the cat-like mask as if they had taken a werecat and put the skin off her mask and given her power like Satan himself.
She was incredible he listened to every gig on radio and TV with his band even the beginnings of the internet helped the band find some tours for the band and get tickets.
The reason why his fingers, no, his whole body, was tingling, his heart was beating faster. He wanted to finally see her under the mask and see who she really was. She was a beast on stage a figure of the devil along with the band that was different in a different way than Mayhem.
His band was dark, satanic, boundary testing, offensive and wanted to blow up. Their band, on the other hand, seemed to be doing their own thing, living a life without rules, doing what they wanted to do and not trying to build a new Satanic power.
He drove faster to the concert hall, it was his biggest concert, but only as an opening act for Slipknot. ,,If you drive like that anymore you'll kill us" Necrobutcher mekcertge behind him and held the instruments and requisitions with Hellhammer and fist.
While the blond of the band took care of the dead animals and things, he did not take part in the conversation. ,,If I don't drive like this, we'll be late... besides, I have to see the band," Euronymous nagged back and pressed the clutch to drive even faster.
They were already late anyway, the party they had because of the gig had escalated a little too much and they all had to sip a few cups of coffee and throw painkillers to get out of the house and into the car.
But they still managed to get a place in the parking lot of an endless labyrinth. Sprinting into the hall with their instruments, they pushed past the masses of people and he could just see her with the guitar in her hand and, as always, the mask on her face. ,,Get everything ready, I'll have a look around!" he called out to Hellhammer and quickly threw his guitar to him, who almost collapsed and cursed at his friend.
But it didn't matter, he was there to see them play, he almost got lost in the masses of security men and technicians, but he saw the band was on stage, all that was left was for the fog to clear. Listening to the crowds of fans, he felt his fingers itching to play with her.
The way she played the guitar with such confidence, it was something that drew him in, she drew him in. ,,Amazing" came from his lips as the band gave it their all, playing one song after another until what he hadn't thought possible happened.
She took off her mask, threw the cat mask into the crowd and seemed to have been made better by all the music gods. Gods of music.
Her playing trumped her beauty a goddess of music and the determined look in her eyes as she shuffled through the crowd and suddenly looked at him.
His heart pierced and winked at him, he knew he had lost himself, that he was itching to play guitar with her, kiss her and be with her in a wave of music.

How would Embry react if his imprint told him she was pregnant?
A cutesy little blurb, it's unedited if I'm gonna be honest lol
----------
“There's no way”.
You were freaking out.
There was a second line, there was not supposed to be a second line.
Embry and you have always been careful.
Except for the time after you worked a double, or when Embry had gotten off a twelve-hour patrol and there was the time in Emily’s guest bathroom during game night.
But you never thought those moments would have led to this one.
Kids were something that the two of you always danced around. Being young adults you didn't really want to spend your time raising kids.
Your twenties were for having fun and staying up at night. Waking up whenever you felt like it and getting to be spontaneous.
Your thirties were when you were planning on raising your children, even getting pregnant in your late twenties would have been expected.
But you were twenty and Embry was only twenty-one.
The two of you still felt like kids yourself, the task of raising one of your own made your head spin.
Once tears began clouding your version you shot off from the edge of the bathtub and tossed the test into your drawer.
Embry was going to be home any minute and you were going to let him catch you like this.
----------------
You had been avoiding him. For over a week.
Sleeping at friends' houses and coming back when he was on patrol. You knew that once the two of you ended up in a room together he would figure it out.
He would smell the change, or depending on how far along you were, hear the heartbeat.
And you weren't ready for it.
It's not that you were scared of how Embry was going to react. He loved you and you knew it. Plus he was rational, there was no reason for him to get mad at you when it takes both parties to make a baby.
Emily, who had been helping you sneak back into the apartment since Sam would let her know who was on patrol, had texted you fifteen minutes ago that Embry should be gone for the next six hours.
Laying on the couch the ceiling was entertaining your eyes since your brain was too preoccupied to do anything else. Your eyes began to feel heavy as the exhaustion of dodging your boyfriend was catching up to you.
----------
A soft hum was the first thing you heard as you groggily opened your eyes. The open curtains allowed you to see that it was now dark outside. The hum got louder as you tried to rub away the sleep still left in your eyes.
Once you were able to knuckle the sleep away the sight of your disorganized living room came into view, but not for long since your eyeliner was quickly filled with your boyfriend's worried face.
“Look what the cat dragged in '', he was clearly pissed off, but you couldn't even argue that he had no reason to be.
Being avoided for a week tends to do that to someone.
The awkward silence had you internally cringing. It was not supposed to be like this with the both of you. Ever since Embry had imprinted he had vowed to be there for you and to never let anything stand in the way of you and him.
But now there was something in the way of your relationship. The monster of fear was consuming you and clouding your judgment.
“Y/N you need to talk. I'm not going to put up with this for much longer. I love you but come on this is ridiculous. I haven't heard more than five words from you”.
He was crouching in front of you now, staring at you. He didn't look mad anymore, worry had replaced the anger.
This was hell on earth for you.
You don't want to crush him.
“I don't want you to be mad Em, this isn't something small”, the tears were flowing now. You tried your best to keep them at bay, but you weren't able to choke them down.
“Bub I’m sure it's not that bad. You can tell me anything”, his hands snake upwards to grasp onto your forearms. His thumbs rubbed comforting circles.
“I'm pregnant Embry”.
He paused.
The world was moving in slow motion and he paused.
That was the confirmation that you needed. The confirmation that you had been dreading.
As quick as you could, you stood up hell-bent on getting out of the apartment as fast as you could. But Embry was quicker, jumping in front of you, stopping you from leaving.
“Woah, woah calm down Y/N. You can't just leave after you drop a bomb like that”.
“Embry I’m not going to stay here so you can be mad at me”, you sobbed.
“Mad? What said anything about me being mad”.
“The look on your face Embry. That said everything, you didn't have to say anything”.
This time his face contorted to shock, and then he stared at you for a moment. The silence was back, until…he laughed.
“What the hell Embry”, you yanked yourself out of his grasp.
“I'm sorry I just, bub I’m sorry you thinking I would be mad is kinda funny”, he was laughing harder. “Bub I promise I’m not mad”.
“You're not?”.
“No. Bub kids were always on the table with us. We were always gonna be parents, just now, just sooner than we thought”.
Your arms found their way around his neck as your bodies melted together. He held you close, rocking you slightly, soothing you as your sobs turned into hiccups. As the night went on, Embry told you everything he was excited about in the coming months, explaining all his ideas for names and how he wanted Sam to help him build a crib from scratch.
Embry was going to be the best day, you were sure of it.

Yavin-4 Boy - Poe Dameron
Tumblr media
A/N: I've been bopping to London Boy lately (always?) and have been itching to write, AND just recently rewatched the entire SW saga, so behold, this creation. Hopefully you'll see me more regularly, but we all know how that goes.
TS Prompt #3: London Boy
Pairing: Poe Dameron x Reader Word Count: 1.9k Synopsis: Poe begins to wonder if life on Yavin-4 is enough for you.
When the alarm goes off before the sun has even risen, you let out a groan of annoyance. Not that the alarm should surprise you. Since moving in with Poe after the defeat of the First Order, this had become routine for the two of you.
Where you are all grumbles and large stretches, Poe is up at the first chime of the alarm. He leans over to wrap a strong arm around you, and like always, you try to coax him to stay in bed for a while longer. Only occasionally do your temptations work.
This morning is not one of those mornings.
After kissing you at least twelve times, Poe reluctantly pulls from your embrace and heads toward the kitchen. He shuts the door behind him, knowing full well that you will fall back asleep.
Because that, too, has become habit for the two of you.
When Poe rises early, the first thing he does is start up a pot of your favorite tea from Naboo. By the time the scent drifts to your bedroom, the intoxicating smell is enough to coax you out of the sheets.
There is a mug steaming on the counter when you step into the kitchen. You take a healthy sip, feeling the warmth travel to your stomach. You hum happily and hear Poe laugh.
"I don't know how you make this so much better than me," you say as he passes behind you, smacking your ass.
"I've had lots of practice. You might be better at it if you ever made it," he teases with a grin.
"Hey, I make it in the afternoons, sometimes. You've just got the morning tea shift."
"A position I happily accept," he says as he kisses your forehead.
"When do you have to head out?" you ask quietly.
"Half an hour."
"Will you be back in time for drinks at Finn's?"
"I'll be sure to. Wouldn't want to miss the Frantxis beer."
"Well of course," you say with a laugh, wrapping an arm around his waist, "Who would ever want to miss Frantxis beer?"
"A fool."
"Precisely my thought." Your humor dims for a moment. "Be careful?" you say quietly.
"Always," he says, his dark eyes locked with yours. With a hand on his cheek, you pull him in for a kiss that lasts much too long. For this, too, has become part of your every day life.
You fell in love with a man with a strong work ethic, something he learned from his parents, from his years spent working on their farm. Even though the fight with the First Order has officially ended, Poe's loyalty to the Resistance hasn't.
When there was a former First Order base that needed to be destroyed, or a former convoy that needed breaking apart, Poe was the first to volunteer.
And he knows the strain it puts on you. He knows the anxiety that comes over you when he leaves. But it's a integral part of him, one that he cannot fight, even if he tried.
"I love you."
"I love you, too."
The mission this time around is a simple one. Chances of running into any severe danger are low.
Poe arrives to Coruscant to speak to the Senate. They have been asking for a member of the former Resistance, and now the Reformed Republic, to address the Senate.
Peace was tentative, it always was. With his speech to the Senate, they hoped to work it into their propaganda, to let former First Order controlled planets know that it was safe to go back to the freedom they had known before.
Poe enjoyed the change of pace, but when he finds himself done for the day in the early afternoon, he faces a choice. He can return home to you early, albeit empty-handed. Or he can return home a tad later, and bring you an elaborate gift.
Poe was under no impression that life on Yavin-4 was easy. When he wasn't taking off with the Republic, he was helping his Dad on their farm. And on the days he was off-planet, you were there helping.
You had grown up in a life of luxury: fancy dresses, decadent food, elaborate parties every night. None of which, Yavin-4 was in excessive possession of.
After the reformation, after your marriage, Poe had asked where you wanted to live.
"With you," you had said plainly. Poe began to laugh and explain himself, but you cut him off. "I know what you meant, and my answer remains the same. Wherever you are."
So you had settled onto Yavin-4, and left behind the life you knew before.
Poe has one of the million cruisers of Coruscant fly him to a nearby shop. When he steps inside, he doesn't even know where to start. The surrounding walls are stuffed with elaborate outfits, arranged by color, all different kinds of fabric ready to swallow the shop whole. On the tables filling up the sales floor, are shoes, bags, and jewels on top of jewels.
He isn't sure where to start.
His attention first clings to the dresses coating the walls. It's been so long since he's seen you in something ridiculously fancy. He touches a soft purple dress that looks and feels like it's made of water, but when he thinks about you wearing it, in the damp forest that is Yavin-4, he laughs.
There is a reason you don't wear all the gorgeous gowns that fill an entire closet of your home. Your wardrobe these days consist of the same utilitarian type of stuff the rest of the planet wears.
Poe wanders over towards the shoes, but again, can't imagine you wearing them instead of your battered work boots.
The tables full of jewels beckon to him next, and they are overwhelming to say the least. The only piece of jewelry that Poe consistently sees you wear is the wedding ring he gave to you a year back.
A necklace catches his eye just when he's about to give up. It's a small pendant on a gold chain. The pendant itself is a black circle, and at it's heart is your home planet of Naboo. Poe knows before he's even touched it that this is the perfect gift for you. He knows that Yavin-4 is completely different from your home, but if you have a piece of it with you--
"Anything I can help with?" the sales representative asks, interrupting his train of thought.
You are pulling on a black sweater when you hear the X-Wing land in the yard. You glance at the clock in surprise. You weren't expecting him for at least another hour. You finish fussing with your hair and walk into the living room just as BB-8 and Poe enter.
"Hey," you say, hugging Poe. His embrace of you is tight. "Did something happen?"
"What? No, I just missed you," he says, before kissing you.
"How'd it go today?"
"Politics is never really my thing," he says. A non-answer.
"Do you want a drink?" you asked, already walking towards the kitchen. There is something different about his demeanor, and you fear there is something he isn't telling you.
When you hand the glass to him, he sighs before taking a drink. He must feel you studying him closely, because he looks up at you with a laugh.
"What?" he asks.
"You tell me."
"I just missed you," he says, wrapping an arm around your waist.
"I missed you, too," you say, and kiss him again. When you break apart, it's his turn to study you closely. You wait a moment, hoping he'll tell you what's gone wrong, when he says the last thing you ever expected him to.
"You're happy, aren't you?"
"What?" you ask in disbelief.
"You're happy?"
"Yes, why wouldn't I be?"
"You don't miss all the fuss of life in Naboo, or crave the hustle of Coruscant?"
"What happened today?" you ask.
"I was just reminded of what you've given up, to live here with me."
"I haven't given anything up--" you begin, but Poe cuts you off as he paces towards the living room.
"Come on, this place is nothing like Naboo. The dense trees, the farms, we're miles away from any civilization," he says, running a hand through his hair.
"You said you only needed to be with me, but after seeing all that you're missing, all the nice things that you can't have here, I . . ."
"Poe," you say, walking towards him. He is shaking slightly as you put your hands on his arms. "I love Yavin-4."
"I know--"
"Let me finish, please. I love Yavin-4. I love that we get up at the crack of dawn every morning. I love how quiet it is here. I love going to your Dad's and drinking his insanely strong moonshine.
"I love farming with the both of you. I love that we have to travel so far to get our food, and that it tastes better than anything we could ever get in a city like Coruscant.
"I love that it's almost always just the two of us. I love this cabin, how we can have sex as loud as we want, because there's no one to hear for miles." He lets out a breath of laugh at that.
"I love that I had to learn all 53 rules of Primagge, and that when we play, I usually end up throwing the cards. I love that when I go into town, I usually end up hearing stories about you.
"I love that our friends come to visit, and that we have room for them. I love that you are teaching me to fly, and that BB-8 sits at the dinner table with us most nights.
"But mostly, I love you. And you are who you are because of Yavin-4. You are Yavin-4 through and through, and I wouldn't change a single thing. Believe me, if I wanted to put on one of those gowns, I would, and I would show this forest style like it has never seen. But I don't need those things anymore. I'm just happy here with you."
Poe takes a moment before he replies. Well, before he takes you in his arms and kisses you dramatically. You are both laughing as he tips you a little, but when he rights you, there are tears in his eyes.
"I love you so much, and am so incredibly lucky."
"You are," you say simply. He walks over towards the leather jacket he threw on the couch.
"So," he says, "Given all that you just said, this might seem like a stupid gift, but I saw this when I was on Coruscant, and I couldn't help myself."
He brings over a jewelry box and when you open it, you find a pendant, with Naboo emblazoned on it. It takes your breath away for a moment, and you see Poe smile.
"I figured you should have it, so even if we stay on Yavin-4 forever--"
"Don't threaten me with a good time," you interrupt, making him laugh.
"So even if we stay here forever, you'll still have a piece of home with you."
"Now who's the lucky one," you say quietly. "I love it."
"Here," he says, taking the necklace. You turn and he clasps the necklace close around your neck. He spins you back around and examines it. "Beautiful."
"It is."
"Not who I meant."
He pulls you into his arms, kissing you deeply. You wrap your arms around him, pulling him close. Even the taste of him is home. You wouldn't change a single thing about the life the two of you live, the life you fought so hard for.
"You are my home, Poe."
"And you're mine."
