When i sleep i dream of your hand in mine, and a day when we went to the mall and laughed till our bellies hurt, tried on stupid jewelry at macy’s, shared panda express while watching youtube, made fun of eachothers reading preferences in barnes & nobles as you sifted through cook books and i looked for more fantasy novels. I dream of the way you froze parked outside of my house in the dark because there was so much to say and so little time. I remember how you drove slower on that dim little street so you could finish telling me a story you knew would make me laugh, and risked my mom watching us through the bedroom window so i could shriek at how horrible you were for making a joke like that. When i sleep i remember how much you love me. It is a quiet love, not like mine, subtext in your day to day speech, affection in the things you send me that reminded you of me. It is not smothering or insistent like mine. Your love is guarded and gentle, it is steady and not passionate or spontaneous. There is no need for fanfare when your love is simply ever present.
