My thoughts on Dexter per season now that I just finished it:

Season 1

By far the best season out of all of them and the best antagonist (yes, even Trinity)

Love how Dexter is introduced, probably one of the best character introductions I’ve ever seen

The flashbacks sequences are sooo good. The haunting feeling they give, even the happier ones like Laura playing hide and seek with Dex and Brian. 10/10

The foreshadowing for Brian’s reveal in Father Knows Best was brilliant: Dexter thinking no normal person wakes up at that hour while Rudy is there, the focus on Rudy when Dexter says nothing connects him to the house, Rudy’s insistence that Joe was Dexter’s real father.

That scene in the Hotel room was probably one of the top three scenes of the entire show, the way they portray Dexter´s panic as his memories are returning. 10/10

I´m torn because I like both versions of where Brian confronts Dex with Deb (the container vs. the house).

While I understand the narrative choice of having Dexter kill Brian to protect Deb, it felt rushed. Brian was such a compelling character, and his potential was wasted (even more since the later seasons use him in a weird way. They don’t let him haunt the narrative for more than 2 episodes and sometimes he´s outright avoided). They should have waited a bit more if they really wanted that ending, it felt extremely rushed to suddenly have Brian come right back to Dex´s apartment and Dex to go well now you die in the last 10 min of the episode.

Season 2

Love the concept of Season 2 because Dexter is the one being hunted and technically being the villain if we compare it to other shows or even this one

I actually liked Lila at the beginning of the season and she actually gave Dexter pretty sound advice pre-dating

I like how the moment Rita suspects that Dexter might not be a good influence for her kids, she keeps Dexter out of her life. She’s grateful for his support, and that may be why she is giving him a chance. But she won’t let slide anything that might hurt her or her kids. Love her character

Wish the addict storyline wasn´t ditched

Hated that Dex and Lila had sex… this man has intimacy issues c’mon. I don’t mind the cheating storyline but it could’ve been better if they kept it to emotional, because those can be just as devastating

Doakes and Dexter’ interactions is so fun, love their bickering

Kinda wish that Dexter kept researching his bio fam. Literally, Joe was just mentioned one episode and was never brought up again and we barely know anything about him and Laura beyond the incident

HATED that they introduced the concept, that Dexter was sabotaging cases before the show began (undermines his code)

I liked Gabriel as Deb’s love interest and I’m not gonna lie and say that her falling for Lundy didn’t raise my eyebrows, but I understand it from a character’s perspective. She didn’t realize she was dating the serial killer she was chasing, why not hook up with the guy that identifies them for a living

Both scenes where Dexter confronts Santos Jimenez, man. You can feel how Dexter´s anger and grief over what happened and how unused he is to feel like that

The scenes with Doakes in the cabin were incredible. Michael C. Hall’s portrayal of a sinister Dexter is chilling. Shame he was toned down after this season. (a bit understandable for S3-4, but c´mon)

Season 3

This season should have been the one with the FBI hunt and Season 2 should’ve been the one with Miguel Prado/the skinner (minus Rita being pregnant and getting married, that stays in S3)

I haven’t read all the books, but I prefer Astor and Cody as resilient kids who inspire Dexter over having them being serial killers on training wheels (also I love how this is an example of how signing off a kid as fucked up instead of believing in them can make the difference. I mean it’s Astor/Cody vs Brian/Dexter)

I was frustrated a bit when Rita asked if Dexter knew anything about his family and he says no, she takes it at face value. Like girl, you helped to pack his bio dad’s stuff when he died and told you his mom was murdered months ago (ngl, kinda wish he confided in Rita about who Rudy actually was and the shipping yard massacre.)

I like Dexter and Miguel’s relationship, but it got better and more interesting once they started fighting and going with their power plays

Rita and Syl have such a good relationship, I was surprised how much the writers decided to develop it. Wish Syl appeared more in S4.

This season has the only good Angel romance story (his eventual relationship with LaGuerta isn’t bad, but I really liked more Gianna)

The way I gasped when Dexter told Deb about Harry cheating on Doris with a CI (even if I found odd that she never asks for Dexter´s help with her research or to get more info from him)

I felt robbed when the “Dexter getting kidnapped” scene was a fake out. Wanted to see Dexter vs another serial killer, but now he´s the one caught. The one from the next episode was cool, but a bit rushed, especially how Dexter gets his chance to escape because the skinner had to go to the other side of the factory for his tools, lol

I loved that scene with Ramon in ep.12 and funnily enough Dex opened up more to him in that scene than he ever did to Miguel (emotionally at least), wish he was kept around for a little while after that

I like the scene where Dexter forgives Harry and decides he wants to be a good father for his son. It was such a heartfelt moment

Season 4

I think that this season is carried overall by John Lithgow’s performance as Trinity. The rest of it is a bit overrated.

Wanted to see more of Dexter juggling being a father of three and a serial killer and not him stalking Trinity

Felt sad when Lundy was killed. Didn’t like that Deb cheated and broke up with Anton to rekindle with him, but he was a great character.

I think they revealed who Trinity was too early (or took too much time to kill him), because the last 3 episodes felt that they were dragging and that the writers had already decided that Rita dead was the last shot.

Dexter feeling only embarrassment for killing an innocent was funny but so odd considering the previous season

The Thanksgiving episode was so good, Dexter being ready to murder Trinity in his kitchen 10/10

The storyline where Deb finds out who Brian really was is so disappointing, like the scene with Dex and Deb in 4x12 is good but the research process... talk about underwhelming. That she learns it just because a newspaper happened to name both kids in Laura’s obituary was weird and kind of a plot hole considering that we know Dexter in S1 researched everything related to the Shipping Yard massacre and that most of the files were destroyed. I think it would’ve been better if she learned Laura had two kids and had to keep digging to learn the second kid’s name, have Matthews reveal it to her or bring it up to Dexter and notice how cagey he gets, idk.

Killing Rita was a mistake. If they wanted to shake up the status quo, they should have had her suspect Dexter’s secret or discover he’s a killer.

Season 5

This season is so underrated

I do understand why a lot of people rank it lower, tho. Because, Dexter and Lumen’s storyline is the only strong one, the PI side plot was boring as hell and Deb relating to the barren girls because of Rudy was good but ehhh… considering that the show goes back and forth on making Brian relevant and ignoring his existence, it’s just there

I don’t mind that Astor and Cody taking some time off the series, but it sucks that they were practically written out of the story after that

Listen I love Dexter and Lumen’s relationship, but I’m glad she got to move on with her life.

I think this is the only season that gives the villain(s) the proper amount of screen time where he acts like it with full knowledge from the characters and the audience. They weren´t rushed and they didn´t overstay their welcome

Season 6

This season is mid

Love Dexter and Harrison’s relationship, he’s such a good dad. The amount of warmth and tenderness he shows towards him is the highlight of the season

Brother Sam was a good character and I hated they killed him off, but he´s a bit repetitive in some parts, especially since this was right after the Lumen arc

Brian should have been used more as a manifestation of the Dark Passenger, easily the best episode of the season

Dexter trying to do the same thing as he did with Trinity of doing everything to find the bad guy first sucked and wasn´t even that engaging.

The painting was hilarious, I can´t even be mad, lol

Deb´s therapist sucks at her job, lmao. She´s like: "Oh you´re in love with your brother in a romantic way." And the only evidence she has of it is Deb hugging Dexter after someone attacked the police station with poisonous gas, that she dated Brian and that Deb told her the only constant she has had after all the horrible stuff that happened to her is her brother (yes, they are weird about each other, but the therapist hasn´t seen or heard that)

Season 7

The first five episodes are sooo good, the rest is pretty bad. Only some scenes managed to pick up a little

That flashback with Harry and Dexter… ouch

Love seeing Dexter trying to escape death traps, I was cheering watching how he was going around that fucked up labyrinth

Isaak Sirko was a better character and antagonist than Hannah, he deserved more on-screen time

Hannah McKay was Dexter’s worst love interest, at first I liked how she interacted with Dexter but after they had him (in an OoC manner) alter his report to "make her trust him" it took a nosedive. Which is a shame since I like the actress when I watched S1-2 from Chuck, she was good in that

Don´t know how to feel about Matthews knowing almost all along about Dexter, I think it would have been better of he suspected something when Brian came around and figured it out after the BHB thing happened

Dexter using the Moser lastname when he confronted Estrada. Oof

Love how Dexter tricked LaGuerta with the shirt, but hate that this basically put a count down on her days in the show

Season 8

The concept of Vogel was one of the worst ideas the show ever had (Ik that in the book, Harry says he consulted "some people" before he decided to train Dexter. But he probably meant he researched sociopaths and talked to professionals in hypotheticals not that he strait up teamed with a psychiatrist to "create" Dexter)

The Brain Surgeon is the most boring villain of the show (yes, even Travis was more interesting) he was diet!Brian and that´s giving a complement

The show just feels tired and bland, don´t get me wrong that started around S6. But now, it looks exhausted of itself and even cheaper than previous seasons

Bringing Hannah back was forced and unnecessary. Dexter taking her back after everything, especially after she poisoned him and Deb, felt completely OoC, let alone leaving Harrison to be raised by her

Kinda zoned most of the season if I´m honest

Dexter not killing Saxon was stupid, this guy never learns

The ending sucks, as everyone says. Why a lumberjack?

New Blood

This show was not good… to say the least

DeXter doesn´t come off as out of practice, he´s stupid

Switching Harry for Deb as the main hallucination was the only good idea

Harrison´s trust in Kurt felt so shallow, it was pointless drama

Harrison remembering Trinity is ridiculous (especially since there were two seasons that address how that´s not possible. With Dexter it made sense because he was three, Harrison was 10 months old), he´s probably more traumatized from being raised by Hannah and ending up in foster care.

Dexter used M-99 not ketamine, what were the writers on? This one made me angry because most of Angela´s case is based on that

Angela figuring out Dex is the BHB because she googled it… so frustrating

initially i was gonna make a post going over all of Anathra's lore so far but then i realized i do not quite have the spoons for it, and also i'd like to break it up into easier to cover parts anyway. so let's jump straight into the most recent mystery!

i've already talked before about the hidden messages in Rubyco's videos, and about the split-second easter eggs in Viking's. encrypted messages aren't exactly new to Skyblock Kingdoms.

but, okay, let's rewind a little. it's 1 am, a couple days before Anathra's episode 8 premieres. i'm winding down for bed, see the premiere on my homepage, and go: hey! i wonder what Anathra's doing next episode!

a bit of backstory on me: i love translating things. you probably know this by now. i also knew a guy who was big into norse mythology stuff, and that included him knowing elder furthark. so i immediately peg that as "oh, shit, that's elder furthark" and track down a translation tool.

("why are you going into backstory" we'll get to that. lol lmao.)

anyway, its 1 am, i run it through the first tool i find, and get:

i also knew from the "something weird happened" message that elder furthark isnt 1:1 with the english alphabet

due to [gestures at cherry and doak], there is a minor scuffle about if it says "you" or if it actually IS supposed to say "iou"

i am immediately embarrassed because, oops, turns out Angerthas (dwarven runs from Lord of the Rings) has alphabet overlap with elder furthark, so that's where the confusion came from. seeing as it's a post-filming decision, that does mean that the episode description and chat message were translated correctly, but the box is in Angerthas and, despite having the same runes, they do not correspond to the same english letters.

i spend a bit alternating between bonking myself for my mistake and bonking my very tired head against Angerthas for a bit until WhiteQry suggests that maybe what Anathra said in chat is the same thing. later, Aquelon is able to translate it as "IU WER RAIT". or,

YOU WERE RIGHT

...right about what?

skipping back to the events of the episode: Anathra realizes that he's lost time. he says he's only felt this "once before", doesn't know what the writing is, and is generally thrown off by... whatever just happened.

i need to rewatch Anathra's pov before i can dig into what i think the message means-- my initial guess is that it has something to do with his ?nightmare? from episode 5, although im not sure past that. considering his pov plays with the concept of the fourth wall a bit as-is, the message also might not be for Anathra (and he can't read it with glasses on either way).

Anathra's in the middle of something. there's a lot going on with him, inside and outside, and i really want to do more overviews of his lore because it's very fun. until then, keep an eye out for more strange messages i guess.

I appreciate all of you so much! Thank you again for noticing the posts and just interacting with my blog in general. It's been a few years since I've made gifs and have been active here and the fact that y'all still use my gifs in your RP's or your fanfictions or your headcannons etc. that just absolutely blows my mind that you still interact with my blog somehow even though I hadn't posted in a couple to a few years!

I am so so so grateful to see how many stories my gifs have been chosen to be put into and I will actually take the time to go back and read them once I find them and book mark them! I am just mind-blown that y'all are still able to search gifs and mine still pop up!

It seems silly but I really have such bad imposter syndrome with anything and everything I do and it takes me a while to process everything and to be able to do posts like this.

Also yes I went through my activity list within the passed couple of weeks for this year (2024) to be able to make sure I got everyone tagged. In a different post I will be going through all the gif sets and making another appreciation post to those of you that have supported and interacted all of the DOAK gif sets and posts that I have made over the years. You guys are all so flipping awesome and I can't believe I still get interactions on gif sets I made YEARS AGO to this very day! It's so crazy how active this fandom still is but I am so proud that it's still active!

I mentioned in a previous post that one of my preciouses was on the way back from Arizona. Well there it is :D The one cartridge that started it all, the one reason I'm out and about professing my love for all things GE okay mostly Alec... now signed by not just one, but two of the amazing people who made it. I don't have enough thanks to give to @prismatic-bell, who not only managed to get it signed for me, but also sent back all those lovely bonuses along with it srsly ilu nyan.

If I took on Dexter Morgan as a muse, I think I'd really want to play him either against James Doakes or someone like James Doakes. I really really liked their dichotomy. None other in the series was like it, in my opinion, and Doakes was one of my favorite characters.

I probably wouldn't do much shipping with Dex either, but not because my blog isn't primarily for shipping, more so because I really hated all the relationships they had him in in the series. It made sense for him to have a relationship as a cover for his dark passenger, but I don't like how they handled his relationships in the end. Especially with his sister Deb. Omfg what they did to her what the WORST character assassination of all time and she deserved so much better than that.

So people would have to be okay with him not really loving their muses if things went into shipping territory.

Also, hmm, I just don't know what else I'd do with him. It'd be fun to write replies in his voice, though!

Thoughts on Dexter so far (that’s what I’ve been binging the last couple of days):

this is it, this is my trash tv show that’s so good in my head—I could write the greatest Christian redemption arc ever for this show, and I mean that not just thematically, but like literally. I want to see Dexter Morgan become a Christian. I didn’t get that with blorbos before, but now I do. I am OBSESSED (although who knows for how long, I’m not planning to watch all of this, lol)

I miss good tv so much (not you, the bear, you’re an angel, and we’re glad you’re here). It’s so well written (aside from the choices I deplore), the music and direction are great, and the acting is phenomenal, particularly from Michael C. Hall, I hope he won SO many awards for this. I keep being like, “eh he’s not that good, he’s just got an angry face,” and then Boom, suddenly he looks normal, gentle, vulnerable, and you realize how extraordinary his acting is all along!!! He portrays so much so well, and his consistency in showing his character arc (across two seasons so far) has been so excellent that I have barely even thought about it till now.

Deb Morgan is so woman, much girl. She’s such a woman written by somebody. She’s so broken and twisted and foolish and desperate and annoying and lovable. Also undoubtedly a victim of sexual liberation!!!!! That woman will hookup with a random stranger she just met and then be like why am I emotionally devastated. She is looking for love in all the wrong places. I love her sibling dynamic with Dexter, they play a convincing pair of weird and damaged siblings—plus I feel like brother-sister dynamics are pretty rare in media generally? And I’ve got brothers myself, so it’s interesting personally to see that played out.

Lieutenant LaGuerta, I love you too, you sinner. I was so mad at her when I found out she was sleeping with her friend’s fiancé and gaslighting her about it in order to get her job back from her friend (who was not to blame for getting promoted when LaGuerta got demoted, plus they didn’t even know each other then). I was so, so angry at her for being corrupt, and then I realized—that’s it, that’s the point. There is none no one righteous, not even one. I keep looking for a righteous character who can save Dexter from his sin, his addiction, his evil choices, whatever you want to call it: and no one can do it because everyone else ALSO has evil within them!! [that’s why we need Someone set apart, Someone holy and innocent of the guilt we all share, but Someone who is among us, dwells with us and changes us by His presence. I could write a Christian arc for this show so well, but I digress.]

Rita, my beloved, you are so great, and I desperately want you to save Dexter, even though that’s not possible!!! Also, how dreadful to know your stupid arc in advance, I am so sorry for you. The women in this show are lowkey fantastic, although there are definitely some messed up elements with how sex is depicted and how that affects the women (and the men too!!) of the show. Rita’s strength is in love and forgiveness; her growth in confidence comes from her genuine healing, and it’s beautiful to see.

Lila, my beloathed, I hate you with a fiery passion even thought you have made some good points and had a few interesting interactions. However, she is an obnoxious girlboss-sex fantasy-self centered-maniac most of the time, and even the realistic parts of her character simply annoy me. I feel like this infidelity arc with her and Dexter is completely unnecessary and it makes absolutely no sense to me? Or at least, it is inconsistent with previously established aspect of Dexter’s character and arc: I myself can imagine some possible explanations and ways to spin this, but they don’t exist in the show!! So he’s just randomly both in love with Rita (even if he isn’t admitting it) and cheating on her. Which like, okay let’s talk about why he’s letting his sin conquer his love!!!! Let’s talk about how this connects to his dark secret and his past trauma!!! But noooo, all they want is weird sex scenes and girlboss monologues from this unlikeable character.

this post is too long, so I’m gonna stop, but I just want to say it’s really funny to me how my brain keeps going “Dexter is a serial killer. This is just like being a vampire, which is a metaphor for being dead in our sins. Wow, this is a Christian show” because that is DEFINITELY not what the show writers intended. But I have read too many analyses of vampire shows by the tumblr girls, I know how this works!!!

GoldenEye 007 (N64)

The classic, popular game. I will be looking at a few different versions of GoldenEye, including playing it in an emulator specifically made for GoldenEye, so to be able to compare I opted for a close-to authentic experience, playing in the original resolution with the original controls, not taking advantage of some of the special options that I didn’t experience originally with the game.

GoldenEye took the world by storm, being one of the most famous Nintendo 64 games, particularly for its multiplayer, which was added at the last minute. Four people can kill each other in custom built arenas (some unique, others adapted from main levels) with different weapon selections and character choices. A lot of my time was spent with the singleplayer campaign.

I had very vivid memories of the Dam level. I got the N64 and the game for Christmas when I was 10 years old. I read all of the briefings and instructions and set about playing the game. I instantly loved it, even though I died a lot. I did encounter a frustration which most other players didn’t, which meant I spent all day on the one level.

The briefing said to use bungee rope to jump off the dam. This wasn’t in the inventory like other gadgets (like the covert modem), so I figured you had to find it. I scoured the level many times. Eventually, I gave up and just ran off the dam to kill Bond, which triggered a successful mission.

Next up is Facility, which felt colossal to me. There was so much to explore, including lots of side rooms, not to mention the joy of trying to headshot the guard in the toilet only to shoot his hat off, with him not reacting. Getting from the first area to the second area felt like a puzzle, even though it was just using a console to open a door.

Because I was playing on easy, I kept bumping into Dr Doak on some attempts, but not others – he seemed to be in different places. I had no idea what his purpose was until much later. GoldenEye is all about solving objectives and then reaching the end of the level. I love the idea of extra difficulty being done via extra objectives, but I personally dislike that this is also tied to stronger and deadlier enemies.

After a few more great levels, giving us some unique locations, we get to the level I replayed the most as a kid: Frigate. The idea of a having access to a full ship was great, and it felt like there were lots of ways to approach this one. The Phantom gun was also ultra cool. Here you have to reuse hostages, but luckily you have time to react, even with the N64 controls.

Playing GoldenEye when it came out felt great. Playing it using one of the default control schemes now feels extremely awkward. Dual analogue controls feel great for FPS games, but this used a stick and C-buttons. Even then, a setup close to now isn’t possible. turning left and right is linked to the the same section as moving forwards and backwards. GoldenEye did have something very close to modern day shooters – however, you needed to play using two controllers.

Each level manages to create a unique feel, either through level design or objectives – even when returning to Surface and Bunker. Another highlight was Archives, which looked great. Loads of people complain about protecting Natalya, but the main trouble was finding her when she ran away or accidentally shooting her yourself. Incidentally, Natalya is absolutely deadly in the Jungle episode, taking out enemies relentlessly with her super powerful magnum.

The train level is another favourite level. Even though it’s a straight line, there’s just a charm about it. Not even my complete inability to aim properly with the laser watch at the end dampens my fun of the level.

On that note, the weapons are very satisfying to use (apart from the KLOBB). They have great sounds and all have a unique feel to it. I loved the RCP-120, especially when you could duel wield them. You could only duel wield if you killed an enemy that was doing so, but it felt so satisfying using two guns at once.

After a great climax in the sky, I was very happy with GoldenEye. However, there were two bonus levels. Over the next few years, I finally completed Secret Agent and got access to the Moonraker level (my favourite non-GoldenEye Bond film when I was younger, mainly because of space). I never managed 00 Agent as a child, though, so the final level (plus the customisable difficulty mode), was stuff I only read about in N64 Magazine. Of course, there was still the multiplayer to play, and some cheats to try and unlock.

Finish levels on certain difficulties in certain times and you’ll unlock cheats. The game was clever in that most players would likely unlock some simple ones – such as DK mode – by playing normally, while things like invincibility and all guns were very difficult. Eventually, cheats to unlock the cheats were found and I was able to mess around with them.

I think the level and objective based structure of GoldenEye still holds up, and I wish more modern games would utilise it. Aspects of Goldeneye have definitely aged badly, such as the controls, but the game oozes charm that helps to counter it. With a few small tweaks, even those aspects can be fixed for a very enjoyable game.

One last thing I do need to mention: Grant Kirkhope’s soundtrack for this game is phenomenal, with a ton of great tracks. While the graphics may have aged, GoldenEye still sounds amazing.

Where to buy GoldenEye 007

GoldenEye is currently the only James Bond video game currently available officially. An emulated version original N64 version is available for rent on Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo Switch Online Plus subscription, while an Xbox Series port is about as part of an Xbox Game Pass subscription, or you can buy a digital version of Rare Replay, which includes a copy of the Xbox Series version of GoldenEye as an additional download.

LITERALLY its so so cool. i think thats one of the things that really makes sbk stick out in my mind, like. its hard to believe all of this started from tiny islands and now we have this huge beautiful world. there was a moment on a viking stream where he got raided and was showing off spruce kingdom bc he was working on the solar system, and he got asked if the mountain was terraformed. that doesnt even BEGIN to cover what an absolute feat it is. that area was literally just empty space, once.

each kingdom has their own identity and it shines through. they all basically had the same start, just with a different tree and biome, but theyve all gone in wildly different directions. there's cherry's overgrown modern buildings, the doak tube, acacia's triangles, the mystical mangrove swamp, birch's pyramids, end kingdom genuinely feeling like part of the end got brought to the overworld, all of it is so wonderfully clear. and youve even got that with the spruce solar system where anathra's invited a bunch of sbkers over to build planets themed after their kingdoms and those are also so full of character and identity.

It’s so so cool to see each kingdom evolve over time and take on a life of its own. Especially since the world started off empty, skyblock gives you nothing to build off of— like a mountainside, giant cave, nice lake, forest, etc —so it’s up to you to shape the world. And oh my god these people are incredible. The irss was also amazing because it gave the opportunity for a different set of eyes and hands to create in a new environment, like- collaboration has always been valuable and it’s especially delightful to see how people kept building in the spirit of their temporary kingdom

Unicorn Harts - FPP, all patterns are great for beginners, and many of the patterns are free. I love her patterns and highly recommend them. If you’re looking for zodiac stuff, this is a great designer to consider.

Violet Craft - FPP, patterns range from beginner to advanced, and many are free as well as low cost. She has full quilt patterns instead of just blocks available.

Quiet Play - FPP, patterns range from beginner to advanced, several are free as well as low cost. She has blocks and full quilt patterns. Lots of free Star Wars blocks as well as a pattern for making a quilt using those.

Fandom In Stitches - FPP, 100% free, but take note that what you make with most of these patterns cannot be sold. What you make must be free as gifts, trades, or kept for yourself. I used this site for the last Quilt Block Swap.

Lilly Ella - FPP and traditional, many free and low cost, geared more towards moderate and advanced but a few are good for beginners. Those butterflies I recently made? Her pattern. She has blocks and full projects, like making a sewing machine cover and fabric baskets.

Sew So Easy - FPP and traditional, everything is free. From the very beginners to advanced, clothes, various projects, quilts, all of it is free. They put out a newsletter every week with new stuff on the website.

Gnome Angel - FPP and traditional, free and low cost, PDF and physical books, full quilt patterns as well as individual blocks, and she has quilt-a-long events. If you’re looking for a quilt that uses 100 different blocks for less than $30, this is who you should check out. They write the patterns with FPP and traditional quilt options.

Teresa Down Under - FPP and traditional, free and low cost, PDF and physical copies, full quilt patterns and individual blocks. She’s the one who taught me how to FPP! She loves interacting with her followers and teaching people how to quilt. She has a Youtube channel as well!

Sew Hooked - FPP and traditional, free and low cost, and has a lot of fun fandom things to check out. Beginner and advanced options. They participate in quilt events, like sew-a-longs, and give reviews on a few things.

Generations Quilt Patterns - FPP and traditional, all free, very beginner to advanced. There aren’t any full quilt patterns, just blocks. Still my favorite website to use for figuring out patterns I wanna use. An excellent site for making a sampler quilt (a quilt made using a bunch of different blocks).

Carol Doak - FPP, free, beginner to advanced. The quilt block designer who made my favorite quilt books. All those little blocks with stars, trees, houses, and other small things? Nearly all were designed by her. She has several books, and if you opt to buy any, consider getting the 300 blocks book seeing as the smaller ones are also in it.

Crafty Nomad - FPP, beginner to advanced, low cost but with free tutorials. I’ve not used her patterns before, but they look to be geared towards all levels. I have a difficult time learning from videos being a more in-person and diagrams with pictures and instructions kind of person.

My Pattern Search - I did a google search using “free quilt patterns -pinterest” (minus the quotation marks) to get a general collection without Pinterest showing up. When you look for patterns and don’t wanna be flooded with Pinterest boards, use -pinterest. You can do the same with -amazon, -walmart, and various other sites you don’t want showing up in search results.

Quilting Daily - This is an excellent website with all sorts of projects from very beginner to advanced! Sign up for the newsletter if you don’t mind getting one daily. They have giveaways and other events you receive notice of in the newsletters.

Fave Quilts - FPP and traditional, all are free, from beginner to advanced. Some of the info they list, like the links, may no longer be valid, so look over the patterns carefully. They link to other websites with the patterns.

Stashify - FPP and traditional, all free, from beginner to advanced. They won’t be adding new things to the site since Covid19, but they do still have patterns listed.

All About Quilts - FPP and traditional, all free, from beginner to advanced. There’s a video on the page showing how to make FPP blocks. There are full quilts listed as well as individual blocks.

All People Quilt - FPP and traditional, nearly all are free and have at one point or another been in various quilt magazines, lots of pictures, download, and print options. I’ve used many of the patterns featured on the website. There are also tips and tricks available on the blog and articles they post.

Fat Quarter Shop - Traditional, focused primarily on using precuts. The patterns range from beginner to advanced, with lots of pictures, download, and print options. This particular link is to their free patterns.

Moda Fabrics and Moda Fabrics Wordpress - Mostly traditional, with pictures, download, and print options to choose from. Beginner to advanced. The second link has virtually no organization, but it’s all free.

Bear Creek Quilting Company - Mostly traditional with a lot of pics. Beginner to advanced.

Quilter’s Cache - Mostly traditional and it’s just quilt blocks. The site is difficult to navigate, so I haven’t done much exploring. Seeing as it’s mostly just quilt blocks, I suggest using Generations (link up above) because they’re also just blocks but far easier to navigate.

The Fabric Hut - they created an ebook with 161 patterns, 100% free, for download.

Wombat Quilts - FPP and all free

Internet Archive - You will need an account, which is free, and will then be able to borrow these books for an hour each. There are over 1000 quilting books with patterns uploaded to the archive.

My Personal Collection of Free Patterns - This is a Dropbox folder with free patterns I’ve collected. Download whatever files you want. I’ll add more as I find them, but make sure you check out the links available on some of the patterns for more information regarding them.

The Sewing Loft - This is full of free patterns, with quilting, sewing projects, tutorials, videos, and all sorts of other goodies. Oh, and 100+ quilt block patterns you can download.

Sewing With Scrap - This website focuses on using scraps, and it's packed with free patterns, tutorials, and projects.

Crafty Staci - Loads of free blocks and patterns, including several Block-of-the-Month projects.

DuckaDilly - This is their free downloads website. It has patterns, templates, and other goodies for you.
