𝐒𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐲𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝟏𝟎𝟎 𝐅𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭)
Hello! As this event takes place, requests will be closed since juggling both will be a little tiring!
-> Thanks: Thank you guys for 100 follows! I’m glad my writing is something others can enjoy, and I’ll keep on doing my best to both improve, and deliver.
Event:
-> Song-Fic/ Song Lyric Event: There are forty five prompts with different song lyrics! Some angst, and others fluff, but all revolve around romance~
->Each fic will revolve around the lyric specifically, or the entire song!
->Eg of fic with just the lyric (specifcially): I may use the lyric as a line you, or another character would say, it might pop up when needed, and etc. A fic example would be: “Before You Go” (Nanami Kento x fem!/reader).
->Eg of fic with entire song: Basically a song-fic
->Eg of fic wihtout lyrics in it: I present the lyrical prompt at the beginning of the fic, and write w/o needing to use it as an actual line, or anything else.
->Whichever is found fitting, will be used!! ^^
->Either way, the fic will be written about that lyrical prompt!! :))
Rules: (A must)
This event is one for (fem!xreader) x (<inserted male reader>)
He needs to be a character from one of the five fandoms I write for!
Jjk, Mha, Haikyuu, Aot, and Demon Slayer
If your guy isn’t on the list, by all means, request and I’ll tell you if I feel like I can write for him!! ^^
-> Link to the M.list <-
This is a non-nsfw event, and topics over 18+ aren’t allowed!!
You can only request one character per prompt, unless, the prompt calls for two! (Even then, you can choose to only ask for one)
My rules still apply for this event, if you would like specifics, please do ask, or look through the rules post!
-> Rules <-

The Best Albums of 2019
After listening to more than 2000 new albums in 2019, I’ve narrowed my picks down to The 20 Best Records of 2019.
I’ve included 3 essential songs from each pick, as well as a choice lyrical clip and a brief description of the album.
Noting beats actually LISTENING TO MUSIC! So don’t just read my thoughts: follow and listen to the Spotify playlist containing 60 songs from the top 20 albums:
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5TWlfWoo54MQ5cYTMmB0RI?si=M_23L6DDRieVuA845A90Pg
01: Yung Gravy - Sensational
Aptly titled Sensational, this debut full-length is a thirty minute party that dances between the hottest trap beats, well-placed samples, and the young Minnesota rapper’s braggadocious persona and ridiculous raps
Hey Alexa, how many bitches can we fit in the Tesla?...Pull up in that Model X with your model ex!
“Whip a Tesla” • “1 Thot 2 Thot Red Thot Blue Thot” • “The Boys Are Back in Town”
02: TWICE - &TWICE • Feel Special EP • FANCY YOU EP
Nine young South Korean women radiate endless energy, bountiful bliss, and some of the catchiest songs to come out not only in 2019 but recent memory
Even when things go wrong, feelings out of control: lessons, to be sure. Be okay, all right! Even a crying face is glittering, filter and laugh! You can return to invincibility, right? Blow off, and we havin’ fun! [Translated from original Japanese]
“Fake and True” • “Breakthrough” • “Stronger”
03: Sublime with Rome - Blessings
Frontman, bandleader, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Rome Ramirez delivers his finest record to date: eleven heartfelt reggae-driven songs that are as well-written as they are masterfully recorded and produced
Watching you feel good tonight: it's your song up on the station, and we don't even know no words. I wanna hear you roll your R’s, singing Spanish in the car, “Dime algo hermosa tonight”.
“Wicked Heart” • “Light On” • “For the Night”
04: Bring Me the Horizon - amo
Cohesive yet genre-spanning (metalcore, hip-hop, electronic, and pop, to name just a few), the sixth album from the English quintet is an emotional yet insightful rollercoaster masterpiece
Before the truth will set you free, it'll piss you off. Before you find a place to be, you're gonna lose the plot. Too late to tell you now, one ear and right out the other one ‘cause all you ever do is chant the same old mantra.
“MANTRA” • “wonderful life” • “i apologise if you feel something”
05: Weezer - Weezer (Black Album)
Expertly produced and instantly memorable, the long-running Rivers Cuomo-driven California quartet is once again in top form, adding yet another fresh and unique — but distinctly Weezer — record to their extensive discography
Don't get mad at me, I'm just being honest. I should have lied, now you're mad at me? I'm just being honest. How 'bout from now on you'll write the script, I'll read the lines?
“Can’t Knock the Hustle” • “Zombie Bastards” • “Living in L.A.”
06: Big Data - 3.0
Like this sophomore album’s lyrical content — exploration of the impact artificial intelligence will have on humans and on the Earth — the latest project from producer, multi-instrumentalist, and mastermind Alan Wilkis is paradoxically dark yet bright; like AI, this album’s execution is equally flawless and Dangerous
I created a monster, it's out of control, it's going to take me...I didn't know what I was making...But now it's coming, coming for all of us!
“Monster” • “See Through” • “Evolution Once Again”
07: blackbear - ANONYMOUS
Vibrant yet dark, personal yet accessible, the fifth album from Mat Musto is a collection of 18 vulnerable, confessional songs told over slick electronic and hip-hop sounds
You drop the bag and ask me how my weekend was. I love that, though. You laugh when I make stupid jokes, and when I went to rehab, you didn't judge me that bad. I struggle with addiction probs, you always got my back. What am I gonna do the day that my drug dealer moves away? Whatever am I gonna say to my new plug? It just ain't the same.
“DOWN” • “HATE MY GUTS” • “DRUG DEALER”
08: Denzel Curry - ZUU
Hit-after-hit of hip-hop bangers pack this album’s half-hour runtime, with a plethora of guests joining the fray but never quite knocking it out like the young Miami native, Denzel Curry
First they mockin', now they hoppin', all on the wave, 'cause they see me poppin'. Big-big-big large pockets, they start flockin'. Here's what I say when they ass keep knockin'...
“RICKY” • “BIRDZ” • “ZUU”
09: DaBaby - KIRK / Baby on Baby
On his two 2019 albums, his first proper efforts after countless mixtapes and singles, DaBaby unleashes his signature, incessant vocals over relentless trap and modern hip-hop beats
Prolly heard I was broke from a broke nigga, prolly heard I'm a ho from a ho! I don't know what you know, I ain't runnin' from no nigga, let’s go!
“BOP” • “OFF THE RIP” • “Suge”
10: Bayside - Interrobang
On their eighth album, the Anthony Raneri-fronted New York natives sound refreshed, focused, and tighter than ever telling their trademark tales of heartbreak and healing
I love that music saved you, and Lord knows it’s saved me too, but songs never love you back, and you never know the person preaching to you...
“Interrobang” • “Prayers” • “Bury Me”
11: The Hold Steady - Thrashing Thru The Passion
Few frontmen can weave an album’s worth of compelling narratives, yet the Brooklyn band’s Craig Finn finds himself on the seventh The Hold Steady album once again delivering ten more engaging, interlocked tales over his band’s fierce guitar riffs and all-too-catchy choruses
Thanks for listening, thanks for understanding: tequila takeoff, Tecate landing.
“Entitlement Crew” • “Denver Haircut” • “You Did Good Kid”
12: Electric Guest - KIN
Sugary sweet, the third record from the California duo promptly polishes any rough few rough edges they once had to deliver a perfectly slick yet quirkily heartwarming collection of eleven easy-listening songs
I'm like, “this mothafucka might sue me, and that mothafucka might boo me”. I'ma keep on goin' to a better day, all this other bitterness can fade away.
“Dollar” • “I Got the Money” • “More”
13: Billie Eilish - WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?
Part punk energy without sounding even slightly punk, part emo diary without being a dashboard confessional, the debut record from American teenager Billie Eilish craftily bounces between genres, haunting sounds, and strange stories
If you think I’m pretty, you should see me in a crown. I'm gonna run this nothing town. Watch me make 'em bow one by one by one.
“bad guy” • “my strange addiction” • “you should see me in a crown”
14: The Cat Empire - Stolen Diamonds
The eighth album from Australia’s The Cat Empire is a full-blown dance party packed with catchy, clever songwriting and a room full of drums, horns, strings, keyboards, turntables, and bass
Operator, please, I can’t get out my head. Tell me where I’m going or where I’m being led. Tell me like an order, and order I’ll obey. Maybe I just thought you said, or did I did I hear you say, “We’re going to ([kill a man]) Kilaman-jaro, jaro…”
“KIla” • “Stolen Diamonds” • “Ready Now”
15: Dirty Heads - Super Moon
Co-frontmen Dirty J and Duddy B return to the beach for the seventh Dirty Heads album, borrowing sounds from across their entire discography of acoustic guitars and witty hip-hop to craft a surprisingly delicate record
I'm a flame, I'm a beacon that won't go out. In the dark, in the rain, I'm your lighthouse. When you can't stand the pain, hope you know now, I'll keep you safe, I'm your lighthouse.
“Super Moon” • “Lift Me Up” • “Tender Boy”
16: TENDER - Fear of Falling Asleep
Dark and uninviting, the second album from this London duo is an intimidating but rewarding listen delicately spiced with just enough hooks to keep you trapped in its atmospheric dreams
I’ll be looking for the scent when it goes cold. I’ve been trying to beat the maze with a blindfold on. I’ve been foraging through mud and sticks searching for that power that don’t exist.
“Closer Still” • “Bottled Up” • “Handmade Ego”
17: Logic - Confessions of a Dangerous Mind / Supermarket Soundtrack
Logic returns once again with countless rhymes delivered over his trademark breathless bars, frequently painting an all-too-vivid picture of a famous rapper struggling to comprehend the world around him
All these comments got me lost in my mind; all these thoughts that I'm having are not mine. I always post that I'm having a good time so my life looks perfect online...
“Homicide” • “Don’t Be Afraid to Be Different” • “Lemon Drop”
18: Tyga - Legendary
More than just a collection of hits, the seventh album from the Compton rapper is well-sequenced and effortlessly laced with hook-after-hook for Tyga to deliver his signature obscene lines about things he self-admittedly has too many [sic] of: money, cash, hoes, cars, clothes, flows
Hey, shut the fuck up, bitch, you know who I are. Point blank range, and I'm shootin' for the stars. You niggas subpar and I just raised the bar. You got Rollies on your wrist, this is Chopard. Slide on your block like a fuckin' go-kart, my nigga A&R, still got an AR.
“Haute” • “Lightskin Little Wayne” • “On Me”
19: The Chainsmokers - World War Joy
The third album in three years from Alex Pall and Drew Taggart (and no shortage of guests) is an easy, light collection of ten slick relationship-focused pop songs that find the duo largely eschewing their dance-centric history
You said, "Hey, whatcha doing for the rest of your life?" and I said, "I don't even know what I'm doing tonight". Went from one conversation to your lips on mine.
“The Reaper” • “Family” • “P.S. I Hope You’re Happy”
20: Bear Hands - Fake Tunes
Brooklyn’s Bear Hands returns with another collection of bright, bouncy songs that ever-so-slightly conceal the trio’s underlying sadness and struggles
I don't see how you think you can come to me, and bitch to me, lay out your problems, like ancient history, like I ain't got no other shit to do. I love you, baby, but my lips are turnin' blue.
“Blue Lips” • “Back Seat Driver (Spirit Guide)” • “Mr. Radioactive”

Favorite lyrics - thank u, next edition.
Ariana Grande latest album thank u, next released on February 8th, 2019.
imagine -
Kiss me and take off your clothes
Imagine a world like that Imagine a world like that We go like up 'til I'm 'sleep on your chest Love how my face fits so good in your neck
needy -
(the whole song tbh)
If you take too long to hit me back I can't promise you how I’ll react
Lately I've been on a roller coaster Tryna get a hold of my emotions
And I'ma scream and shout for what I love Passionate but I don't give no fucks I admit that I'm a lil' messed up But I can hide it when I'm all dressed up I'm obsessive and I love too hard Good at overthinking with my heart How you even think it got this far? This far
And I can be needy, way too damn needy I can be needy, tell me how good it feels to be needed I can be needy, so hard to please me I know it feels so good to be needed
Sorry if I'm up and down a lot (Yeah) Sorry that I think I'm not enough And sorry if I say sorry way too much You can go ahead and call me selfish (Selfish) But after all this damage I can't help it (Help it)
I know it feels so good to be needed
NASA -
I'd rather be alone tonight You can say "I love you" through the phone tonight
And when I miss you, it'll change the way I kiss you Baby, you know time apart is beneficial It's like I'm the universe and you'll be N-A-S-A
Give you the whole world, I'ma need space
Bottom line Usually I would love it if you stay the night I just think I'm on another page tonight It ain't nothing wrong with saying I need me time
bloodline -
Don't want you in my bloodline, yuh Just wanna have a good time, yuh
Not tryna make you all mine, yuh
fake smile -
Another night, another party, sayin' hi to everybody I’m sorry, it's time to leave, I gotta leave now
I can't fake another smile I can't fake like I'm alright Ooh, ah (Ooh, ah) And I won't say I'm feeling fine After what I been through, I can’t lie Ooh, ah (Ooh, ah)
Fuck a fake smile, smile Fuck a fake smile, fake smile
If I'm hurt, I ain't gon' lie about it Arms crossed with the attitude, lips pouted If I'm mad, I ain't gon' lie about it Neck roll with the attitude, yeah
bad idea -
(I didn’t like this song much)
make up -
I like to fuck with you just to make up with you
'Cause the way you be screamin' my name
Make me wanna make love to you
At the end of the day, boy
You know that I'm 'bout to wake up with youI love it when we make up (Yeah eh eh)
Go 'head, ruin my make up (Yeah eh eh)
ghostin -
I know you hear me when I cry I try to hold it in the night While you're sleepin' next to me But it's your arms that I need this time (This time)
You been so understanding, you been so good And I'm puttin' you through more than one ever should And I'm hating myself 'cause you don't want to Admit that it hurts you
I know that it breaks your heart when I cry again Over him, mmh I know that it breaks your heart when I cry again 'Stead of ghostin' him
Though I wish he were here instead
Don't want that living in your head
He just comes to visit me
When I'm dreaming every now and then (And then)
in my head -
Painted a picture, I thought I knew you well I got a habit of seeing what isn't there Caught in the moment, tangled up in your sheets When you broke my heart, I said you only wanted half of me
My imagination's too creative They see demon, I see angel (angel) angel Without a halo, wingless angel
Falling, falling, but I never thought you'd leave me Falling, falling, needed something to believe in, oh I thought you were the one But it was all in my head It was all in my head (Skrrt, skrrt)
Yeah, look at you, boy, I invented you
Wanted you to grow, but, boy, you wasn’t budding Everything you are made you everything you aren't I saw your potential without seein' credentials (-entials) Maybe that's the issue (Yeah, yeah) Said maybe that’s the issue, ah Can't hold that shit against you, ah Guess I did it to myself, yeah Thought you were somebody else, you
7 rings -
Been through some bad shit, I should be a sad bitch Who woulda thought it'd turn me to a savage? Rather be tied up with calls and not strings Write my own checks like I write what I sing, yeah (Yeah)
You like my hair? Gee, thanks, just bought it I see it, I like it, I want it, I got it (Yeah)
Wearing a ring, but ain't gon' be no "Mrs." Bought matching diamonds for six of my bitches I'd rather spoil all my friends with my riches Think retail therapy my new addiction
Whoever said money can't solve your problems Must not have had enough money to solve 'em They say, "Which one?" I say, "Nah, I want all of 'em" Happiness is the same price as red-bottoms
Yeah, my receipts, be lookin' like phone numbers If it ain't money, then wrong number
I don't mean to brag, but I be like, "Put it in the bag, " yeah When you see them racks, they stacked up like my ass, yeah
Ain't got enough money to pay me respect
Ain't no budget when I'm on the set
If I like it, then that's what I get, yeah
thank u, next -
(the whole song’s bop lbfh)
Thought I'd end up with Sean But he wasn't a match Wrote some songs about Ricky Now I listen and laugh Even almost got married And for Pete, I'm so thankful Wish I could say, "Thank you" to Malcolm 'Cause he was an angel
One taught me love One taught me patience And one taught me pain Now, I'm so amazing I've loved and I've lost But that's not what I see So, look what I got Look what you taught me And for that, I say
Thank you, next (next) Thank you, next (next) Thank you, next I'm so fuckin' grateful for my ex
Spend more time with my friends I ain't worried 'bout nothin' Plus, I met someone else We havin' better discussions I know they say I move on too fast But this one gon' last 'Cause her name is Ari And I'm so good with that (so good with that)
She taught me love (love) She taught me patience (patience) How she handles pain (pain) That shit's amazing (yeah, she's amazing) I've loved and I've lost (yeah, yeah) But that's not what I see (yeah, yeah) 'Cause look what I've found (yeah, yeah) Ain't no need for searching
One day I'll walk down the aisle Holding hands with my mama I'll be thanking my dad 'Cause she grew from the drama Only wanna do it once, real bad Gon' make that shit last God forbid something happens Least this song is a smash
I've got so much love (love) Got so much patience (patience) I've learned from the pain (pain) I turned out amazing (turned out amazing) I've loved and I've lost (yeah, yeah) But that's not what I see (yeah, yeah) 'Cause look what I've found (yeah, yeah) Ain't no need for searching And for that, I'll say
Thank you, next (thank you, next)

Streaming Movies to Keep Your Summer Interesting
As the summer of quarantine continues apace, the streaming services are upping their game, offering the kind of blockbuster entertainments we’d normally flock to the multiplex to consume with a box of popcorn and an ice-cold drink. But they only have a handful of those in the tank, and there are still many hours in the day. So, once again, it’s time to recommend a few out-of-the-box selections from your subscription streaming services — the offbeat biopics, quirky comedies, gritty dramas and cuckoo documentaries worth digging around for.
‘The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete’
Stream it on Amazon Prime and Hulu.
Mister (Skylan Brooks) and Pete (Ethan Dizon) are two Brooklyn projects kids on their own, their fathers absent and mothers lost to the ravages of addiction. This tough drama from the director George Tillman Jr. (“Soul Food,” “The Hate U Give”) is a portrait of desperation and despair, dramatizing the kind of no-romance poverty that seldom makes it to the screen intact. But if Michael Starrbury’s script pulls no punches, it also finds moments of lightness and levity in their grim story. Brooks and Dizon are astonishing young actors, while Anthony Mackie and an all-but-unrecognizable Jennifer Hudson make maximum impact in their brief appearances.
A similar story of tough times in the boroughs, as the title character (Slick Woods), just 18, struggles to keep her family together when her mother is arrested. She’s got outsized dreams, imagining herself as an influencer and performer, but the direness of her situation threatens to crush her spirits, and the picture often plays as a subtle indictment of the limited options available to young Black women like her. Woods is stunning in the lead, and the writer and director Sam de Jong offsets the melancholy at the story’s center with a light touch, offhand intimacy and grainy, throwback aesthetic that recalls earlier New York indies like “Just Another Girl on the I.R.T.” and “She’s Gotta Have It.”
‘Professor Marston and the Wonder Women’
Stream it on Hulu.
Disappointed that we’re not getting the “Wonder Woman” sequel we were promised this summer? As an alternative, check out her fascinating and unexpectedly sexy origin story. The life that “Wonder Woman” creator William Marston shared with two women — his wife and their lover — and their mutual experimentation with bondage helped inspire the comic book character, as well as some of her more controversial early imagery. Angela Robinson, the writer and director, draws those parallels clearly and cleverly, but “Wonder Women” is most remarkable for the nuance it gives to its central relationship, treating what could’ve been a giggly sexcapade with genuine complexity and sensitivity. It’s not just another biopic; this is a lovely story about not only finding love, but understanding and accepting it, on its own terms.
Another unexpectedly ribald biopic, this giggly treat from the writer and director Madeleine Olnek stars Molly Shannon as the notoriously reclusive poet Emily Dickinson, here reimagined as a cheerfully gregarious party girl. (The film predates the similarly conceived Apple series “Dickinson.”) The title, and casting of the “S.N.L.” alum Shannon, suggests a jokey sendup for literary types — and though Olnek’s script and execution are winking and witty, she wrestles with serious themes, dramatizes fully realized relationships and poses pointed questions about how legacies are devised and maintained.
‘Most Beautiful Island’
Stream it on Amazon Prime.
Ana Asensio writes, directs and stars in this harrowing but rewarding drama as a young, struggling, undocumented Spanish immigrant in New York City who is offered an opportunity to dig out of her considerable financial hole with one night’s work — an offer that sounds too good to be true, and proves to be exactly that. Asensio is a powerful performer (she creates empathy from frame one, and holds it), and the real deal as a filmmaker, creating palpable, almost unbearable tension and dread throughout the film’s long, scary night.
‘Straight Up’
Stream it on Netflix.
When Todd (James Sweeney) and Rory (Katie Findlay) first meet, they bond over a shared love of “Gilmore Girls.” The influence of that show’s rat-tat-tat dialogue, pop culture savvy and unabashed sentimentality are all over this unconventional romantic comedy. Sweeney also wrote and directed, augmenting the normally drab rom-com template with a cornucopia of quirky and unexpected visual flourishes, and his screenplay is painfully astute, displaying an enviable ear for how the affectations and witticisms of dating fall away, with the right partner, to confession and vulnerability.
‘Fort Tilden’
Stream it on Amazon Prime.
The story is deceptively simple: two young Williamsburg women (played with delicious smarm by Bridey Elliott and Clare McNulty) try to traverse Brooklyn for a day at the beach. But the writing and directing duo of Sarah-Violet Bliss and Charles Rogers use that thin setup as a clothesline, upon which they hang scathingly satirical vignettes of borough bohemia, and the degrees to which these unapologetically self-involved characters will undercut each other, and themselves. The laughs may sting a bit, depending on how closely you’re situated to this world, but they land like punches in a heavyweight bout.
‘The Sunset Limited’
Stream it on HBO Max.
Tommy Lee Jones and the “No Country for Old Men” author Cormac McCarthy reunited for this made-for-HBO effort, which the writer adapted from his 2006 play. Jones both directs and plays White, an atheist professor who has just attempted suicide. Samuel L. Jackson is the born-again convict who has saved White’s body, and now tries to save his soul. That’s the entire premise — two men in one apartment, arguing over the very nature of existence — and if it sounds dull or stage-bound, those concerns are quickly laid to rest by the brilliance of McCarthy’s dialogue, the economy of Jones’s direction, and the power of these two bravura performances.
‘My Scientology Movie’
Stream it on Hulu.
The Church of Scientology is notoriously sensitive about its media portrayals, so the British television presenter and filmmaker Louis Theroux probably didn’t expect much in the way of cooperation when he ventured to Los Angeles to make a documentary about their tactics. Instead, he and the director John Dower decide to cast actors for the former Scientology executive Marty Rathbun to “direct” in dramatizations of his revelations. The ensuing exchange of threats and surveillance neatly proves the filmmakers’ point, but “My Scientology Movie” isn’t just a lark; it has much to say about the psychology that draws people into the organization, and how it remains with them even if they break free.
‘Knuckleball!’
Stream it on HBO Max.
Baseball fans looking to fill the summer void will enjoy this informative documentary from the directors Ricki Stern and Anne Sundberg. Their focus is the wildly unpredictable but often effective no-spin pitch of the title, practiced by only a handful of pitchers at any given time, and only two when the film was shot in the 2011 season: Tim Wakefield of the Boston Red Sox and R.A. Dickey of the New York Mets. The storytelling is compelling and the filmmaking is sharp — particularly the tight close-ups and slow motion photography that capture the power of the pitch — while the subjects are so charismatic and likable that the film concludes on a grace note of unexpected, genuine emotion.

The Journal Journey Part 20
The week after an ultramarathon is interesting for me. This also plays into some of the topics of this past week’s blogs/podcasts and sets up this Journal Journey well I think (I love it when a plan comes together 😊!!). Last Saturday’s race offered everything for me. Most importantly, some great lessons. I just sat down to write after reading for some time, “Mindset” by Carol Dweck. Ironically, in this chapter she was talking about character in sports. She shared a few examples of how these athletes were down, almost broken, hurt, and at their breaking point, before finding that “Eureka!!” moment. I interpreted that moment as, simply stated, the training and work during the process of preparing for that said event! Those few examples were relative to me and my experience last week. As I shared in my race wrap up, a bit beyond the mid-point, I was at that breaking point, ready to throw in the towel. I wouldn’t classify my turnaround as something that spontaneously happened I just, “felt better” immediately, but something did click, and I found a new gear; something compelled me to keep moving forward. Yes, we spend countless hours training our bodies for something like this, but how much time do we train our minds? For me, in this situation, at least in my opinion, it was the countless hours I spent training my mind; not just for racing, but for life. The race is just another platform for me to practice what I am learning. I put the physical training in, and I trusted that training. I believe the physical part is much easier. Trusting your “brain training” though, that is tough. Did you do enough? How are you going to handle those down moments? What if this happens or that happens? What if a bear jumps out of the woods? – Haha – a joke there but, not really 😊. My point is that we let all these, many times ridiculous thoughts get stuck in our mind. But what I am learning and finding out is, when you put that work into training the mind, it doesn’t stop these thoughts from entering, but it does create the power to not let those thoughts dictate your actions. That is what I was able to experience last week and have been reflecting on throughout. As I mentioned, these weeks after a race are a bit strange. You come from, well you hope, you come from a high point. Last Sunday and into Monday I was feeling very fulfilled after coming from that experience. Through the rest the week, I wanted that feeling back; I wanted to replicate it and have that “high” so to speak. That high is sometimes followed by a low because, well, you are in the midst of life, reality, and responsibility. There are many ultramarathoners that go into a bout of depression after races. I can understand that, and I think I have felt some, I guess sadness, because of such an awesome experience. That is why this sport can be so addicting. You get that feeling once and you try to recreate it each time you go out. But, just like the race, you find a way out of that valley of life. We are going to experience great moments and shitty moments; it is inevitable. But, when it is over, and you reflect on it, can you be fulfilled knowing that you put in the effort, you trusted your training, and you developed your mind to accept and be proud of that work?
Took things for a ride above before we got into this edition of the Journal Journey. Wasn’t sure where it was going to go but I hope you are enjoying the trip. Today’s is from January 30, 2017.
- “Did I make my best effort? If so, you may have been outscored, but you didn’t lose.” – unknown – Pretty relatable to above and something I believe in 100%. I didn’t throughout most of my life. “Best effort, bullshit, I lost, I suck; that is what is most important.” That is the mindset I had; talk about a fixed one! As I wrote that I can’t help thinking about Ricky Bobby in “Talladega Nights” saying, “if you’re not first, your last.” Funny stuff, but a bunch of B.S. I believe it is all about the level of effort you put into something. Are you putting in the best work you can? What I mean by that is, not as it relates to the event or that specific moment/thing, not the result, but the training, the time leading up to it; are you working your ass off. Are you giving the work your best effort? Then, at the time of the event, go out and give it Your Best Effort. The challenge here is around acceptance too, because, you best effort today may be different than your best effort tomorrow. We are not always 100%. We have shitty days and we have awesome days. Are you giving your best effort today, with where you are, with where you are at? Relentless Forward Progress!! Character!! Integrity!! Heart!! These are the words that come into my mind right now. And, I am thinking about my daughters and the many times they have had to show up and, I knew they were not 100%, I knew they didn’t want to do what they must do, and THEY STILL DID IT. That is Relentless Forward Progress. That is Heart, Character, Integrity. That makes me a proud dad. I don’t give a shit about results. If they do out and do the thing, they committed to do, put in the work they must do, even when they don’t want, that is them giving their best effort! That is empowering!!
- “Don’t lose your opportunity to be better each day.” - unknown – See above, I guess. Again though, we are not always going to be on but each day, no matter where you are in life, what we are feeling or how deep the valley is you may be in, you can be better, at something, each day. It can be small too. It could be as simple as saying “I love you” to someone and brightening up their day. You were better. You don’t feel like getting out of bed because you have the flu and feel like dread, but you picked up a book about personal growth and read for 10 minutes……being better. It doesn’t have to be all throughout the day, .0001% better. “Baby steps count too!!”
“Concern, compassion, and consideration were always the priority of the highest order.” – John Wooden

Lindsey Graham 2.0 is the far-right’s based new meme lord
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) catapulted back into the spotlight during the Brett Kavanaugh hearings when he played defense for the Supreme Court nominee, screaming at Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee and branding the hearing an “unethical sham.”
It was a new look for the formerly timid lawmaker and it turned him into a superstar for the Trump wing of the party. Not only did Graham parlay his outburst into a string of appearances on Fox News’ prime-time programs, he became a hero to right-wing meme culture.

During the Kavanaugh hearings, Graham let loose on the left, saying “what you want to do is destroy this guy’s life, hold this seat open and hope you win in 2020.” He went on to tell Kavanaugh “you’ve got nothing to apologize for.
Moments later, Graham told the Democrats “boy, you all want power, I hope you never get it.” He told Republicans “if you vote no [on Kavanaugh], you’re legitimizing the most despicable thing I have seen in my time in politics.”

The new Lindsey Graham—one who is willing to bellow across the aisle at Democrats, and some who say saved the Kavanaugh nomination—is now being embraced by the Trump loyalists in the party.
Republican golden boy Ben Shapiro tweeted “Lindsey Graham 2.0 is pretty fantastic.”
His publication, The Daily Wire, sent out a clip of Graham telling CNN’s Kate Bolduan “if you don’t like me working with President Trump to make the world a better place, I don’t give a shit.”
Over on r/the_Donald, he was praised as “the best upgrade” ever, going from lap dog to battering ram.
Graham’s outburst also won applause from the uglier parts of the right. White Nationalist Richard Spencer tweeted “for the first time, I have admiration for Lindsey Graham.” Paul Joseph Watson, the sole big name from InfoWars still unbanned on Twitter, tweeted “most authentic I’ve ever seen Lindsey Graham.”
Suddenly, everyone on the right loved Lindsey Graham.
In introducing Graham just after Kavanaugh was confirmed, Sean Hannity called him “a man who deserves a lot of credit for this moment.” Moments later, Hannity said, “I don’t think we would be here without your courage.” And before Graham got off the air, Hannity added, “Senator, you’ve served your country very well in this process, thank you for all you did.”
Graham returned to Hannity on Monday night and the host began, “I don’t think would have happened without you.”
When he appeared on Laura Ingraham’s show, she introduced him as “the man who has really led and galvanized the GOP’s efforts to rally behind Judge Kavanaugh.”
She went on to say that she “loved” Graham’s outburst during the hearings.
And Twitter ate it up.
Happy Friday.

But their newest meme star hasn’t always been a fan of the president or his supporters.
He and Trump first butted heads during the 2016 campaign when they were both among the massive field of candidates vying for the Republican nomination.
The most famous moment of that tension came in the summer of 2015, when Donald Trump launched into one of his trademark string-of-insults, calling Graham a “lightweight” and an “idiot” and in a what has to be a political first, gave out Graham’s private phone number. In response, the South Carolinian called Trump a “jackass.”
Graham, like all the other candidates, was unable to overcome the media’s addiction to the Trump show and soon dropped out.
But slowly, Graham bent to the will of the Trump. In an embarrassing bout of brown-nosing, the South Carolina senator went so far as to laud Trump’s golf score on Twitter.
Really enjoyed a round of golf with President @realDonaldTrump today.
President Trump shot a 73 in windy and wet conditions!
— Lindsey Graham (@LindseyGrahamSC) October 9, 2017
You will now have a tough time spotting Lindsey Graham saying anything critical of Trump. In a recent editorial following the Kavanaugh hearings, the New York Times called him “the saddest story in Washington” and referred to him as “Donald Trump’s slobbering manservant.”
Previously, Graham backed the checks-and-balances of Washington, even saying that if Trump fired Robert Mueller “that would be the beginning of the end of his presidency.”
But that has since changed and in late August, he said that he supported Trump firing Attorney General Jeff Sessions, reasoning that “the relationship is not working.” He suggested that Sessions’ replacement should also protect Mueller but Trump would almost certainly find a replacement that’s as eager to ax the special counsel as he is.
In Washington, there is wide speculation that Graham has his eye on Jeff Sessions’ job. But he has denied that’s the case, saying recently, “I have zero interest in serving President Trump’s cabinet.” He added, “I feel I can do more good for the country and help President Trump more effectively by being in the Senate.”
But either way, he’ll continue to be a star online
