oh hey it's the common misconception lines! so yeah I can see why people think she's racist but also those people need to put more thought into it, we have more information than she does because we're the player.

this is actually what I was referring to in my first comment, that it wasn't clear she wasn't a fan of Wrex and Garrus having full access specifically because they're aliens: they are a merc and a cowboy cop. the Normandy is a brand new, state of the art ship in a very rare cross-species collaboration, and Shepard is letting on absolute randoms off the street. we know they're trustworthy squadmates because we see them in the opening slideshow and on the squadmate selection screen; Ashley met A) a violent dude who'll kill anyone for credits and B) a cop who she first met complaining about orders and then secondly met disobeying orders and putting a civilian in danger. not particularly trustworthy professions when you're a career soldier

a line of hers to Shep in ME2 with some options:

"I know what Cerberus is like. They talk about putting humans first, but at what cost?"

she very much knows Tali exists because with a couple of specific choices in ME3, she can say that Tali is like a sister to her, which would be a Big Deal considering how important her blood family and especially her sisters are to her.

potentially shooting Wrex is to protect her commanding officer from an immediate threat who has a gun out and is making death threats, not because he's a krogan. Shepard tells her to be ready! she assesses danger, doesn't just shit on the nearest alien

I would like to also add that she also has some of the most chill, non-presumptious elevator conversations (especially when compared to Garrus making racist assumptions or spouting turian supremacism with everyone except Ashley (and I'm saying that as a fan)). a favorite of mine which isn't transcribed in that post has her hoping that "having [Tali] with us fighting Saren will change people's minds [about quarians]".

(her main line of character development is self esteem! the increased tolerance is just a bonus)

with the ME3 character shift I was asking more about personality changes because while I've seen people complaining of "oh suddenly now all she does is drink" before I hadn't seen "girly" before in terms of personality. so the "not quite as straight forward" is interesting to me, thanks! the design change is definitely a deliberate shift noted in the art book 😩

Hello there, reasonable person!

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by 'clear' but that it might just be that Ashley is noting what she sees. She hangs out in the same area as Garrus and Wrex, and shares the same strength in combat that they bring. Garrus also brings tech and Wrex also brings biotics, but Ashley is just straight out combat strength, according to the stats when you're putting together a team.

I also vaguely remember her saying something to do with Liara, which showed a little jealousy. She just doesn't seem to have much fondness for aliens and of course the "I'm not racist" line, which always raises a few red flags.

I'm also just gonna put a few comments here...

You can definitely see why people would think Ashley's racist.

And the thing is, you can't necessarily tell if that's changed by the time of Mass Effect 2. She still works for the alliance, is on a human settlement, and doesn't join up. Pretty much just chews you out for being dead for 2 years and not contacting her during that time and refuses to join you since you're working with/for Cerberus.

I can also see why she wouldn't say much about Tali specifically. Tali keeps quiet and usually stays in engineering, I wouldn't be surprised if Ashley forgets Tali exists at times.

I guess I must have missed that side quest. To be fair, by the time I was getting to the end game I was getting... a bit tired of the first Mass Effect game. I did a few side quests but I didn't explore the galaxy all that much.

And yeah, tolerance isn't her main thing. I actually had to reload my save to save Wrex, because I was hoping if I kept talking to him, we'd get to a point where Shepherd would say 'look, we'll download any data Saren has that points towards a genophage cure while we're infiltrating' and Ashley decided that just shooting him would be the best idea. So I had to reload and just calm Wrex down directly. Luckily it is fairly easy to do if you went and got his family armour back for him.

Appearance wise, it was fairly obvious to me. The hairstyle change, and the pronounced lips just struck me as something that was fairly out of place with the straightforward soldier we knew in Mass Effect 1.

This could be put down to her simply employing a different style because we were on Earth, so she wasn't fighting any wars, but then we get to the mission on Mars... She could have easily tied her hair back, keep it out of the way, but no. She got some armour, yes, but... I dunno. She also just didn't seem quite as straight forward as she was in Mass Effect 1 and 2.

I dunno how else to put it. It just hardly feels like Ashley at all to me.

Sharon is the only child of Harrison and Amanda Carter, two wealthy Virginians, and the great-niece of the renowned S.S.R. and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Peggy Carter.  As such, Sharon grew up hearing stories of her aunt’s adventures - from fighting alongside the Howling Commandos to the milestones she set for women in her profession.  Influenced and inspired by these stories throughout her childhood, Sharon - at the encouragement of her aunt (and much to her mother’s dismay) - actively pursued a career with S.H.I.E.L.D. upon graduating from college.

But the Carter name carries a certain weight within S.H.I.E.L.D.  While training rigorously for a year and a half at the Academy, Sharon strove to differentiate herself from the founder who shared her name, setting out to mark her own place within S.H.I.E.L.D.  Sharon proved herself exceptional, receiving top marks in combat and marksmanship and showing a glowing talent for espionage.  These skills would not only later earn her the title of Agent 13, but saw her career taking off in domestic and international counter-terrorism, her assignments sending her far and wide to gather intel on terrorist cells and demobilize them.  It was during one of these missions, embedded within Afghanistan, that she lost contact with S.H.I.E.L.D.  The organization, for all its resources, cut her loose and declared her dead; for four months, Sharon was forced to survive by any means necessary– some violent, others degrading, and S.H.I.E.L.D. - crippled by the Skrull invasion - made no effort to recover her.

Sharon returned to the States having fought tooth and nail to get there, arriving home in tumultuous times with both S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers recovering from the damage left in the wake of the invasion.  She took a brief leave of absence before taking up the position of Deputy Director, helping to usher in a seemingly unparalleled era of efficiency within the intelligence agency.  She oversaw much of the events surrounding Tony Stark and Harry Osborn’s Extremis Project, leading up to the celebration of their landmark breakthrough at the Empire City Casino, where she ran rescue and containment during the civilian crisis created by the Hulk.

Though loyal to S.H.I.E.L.D., Sharon is guided by a strong moral compass and won’t hesitate to speak out if her ethics are challenged.  Stubborn and brash, she makes for a fierce opponent and an even fiercer friend.  The months she spent in Afghanistan have emphasized her cynical nature and further fueled her desire to ensure justice within S.H.I.E.L.D. and for the civilians they help protect.

As Deputy Director, Sharon attended a ceremonial signing of the Accords atop S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Iliad Helicarrier along with Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes.  The signing was meant to be a gesture of goodwill and unite S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers on the matter of superhero registration, but the event fell into disarray at the unseen hands of HYDRA, igniting tensions to a blaze.  During the memorial for the agents who lost their lives in the crash, Alexander Pierce was assassinated.  His death seemingly brought about at the hands of Bucky Barnes, S.H.I.E.L.D. mounted a manhunt which culminated in Barnes handing himself into S.H.I.E.L.D.

Sharon has made a hard-won effort in adhering to the jurisdiction of the Accords, costing her relationships while merely straining others.  However, as the years have passed in the wake of the Hart Island prison break and the horrors that were discovered there, her loyalty and faith in S.H.I.E.L.D. have been put to the test with the increasing concern that the organization she’s devoted herself to may not be what it claims.

The complicated thing from this team arrangement was that Sakura had to be the one protecting his two teammates with more effort.

Being the only male out of the three came with this kind of responsibility: to protect the two girls despite their great abilities just for the fact that they were delicate by genetic. And Sakura, being raised as a respectful, kind and responsible young man, he had that inborn quality to help those close to him.

“Morons had I not warn you already about taking your training too seriously?” the voice of the medic boy scolded them as he attended their wounds, both girls keeping silence as their best option when facing this side of their only male teammate.

“But we didn’t do it on purpose! It’s just that the klutz in front of you could not avoid my attack” his blonde teammate dared to justify, still with her back and shoulder folded, watching how the boy did the same with her other teammate.

Teammate who —not being grateful of her comment, shot her a glare which she ignored, since she was more preoccupied in stop being a target for the pink haired boy’s distaste.

“Why was that? That’s not like you” the last he said more for himself, though due to the short distance between them in that moment with the Uchiha girl, it was impossible for her not to listen.

As a response, the proud heiress tsked.

“I am no weak woman” she complained of his comment, feeling offended that he thought she really couldn’t dodge the pitiful strikes of her blonde and hyperactive teammate.

Rolling her eyes both the girl with blue eyes and the boy in front of her, she noted her irritability increase. Although when she tried to pull her arm out of the grasp of the medic in the room, she let out a whimper.

Taking with steadiness yet with a little delicacy the injured and fragile arm of his teammate, Sakura emanated his green chakra once more over her shoulder and chuckled.

“I never said you were, I’m more than sure you’re not. Neither of you” he said while his eyes watched with warmth the area he was treating, Sasuke observed his green eyes shine with the reflex of his chakra and something more. Feeling warmness not only in the area he was treating but on her cheeks too. “; but you do are morons and reckless” he finished; breaking quickly any warm she had started to feel moments earlier.

He ignored completely the indignant looks from his two teammates.

“Well, you are the reckless; she is the moron” he pointed with a brief inclination of his head towards the blonde girls still observing the treatment he gave to the Uchiha girl.

“Hey, I am so not—” before she could finish her complaint, Sakura stood up, finalizing his treatment.

“Done, I’ll pass the note to Kakashi-sensei. And you better not be seen nearby the training fields for the next three days or I’ll make it a month” biting their lip, both girls nodded begrudgingly.

Later that day, as a result of their interrupted training, Sasuke wandered by the streets of the village in search of something to entertain herself —A rather hard task for her considering that the only thing she wanted to do when she did this kind of activity was to behead the perverts that followed with their stares, without being able to do so now that she had been forbidden to realize any physical effort.

But soon her attention was brought to a group of civil girls surrounding her teammate, stalling him with questions and gifts and attentions she was sure that troubled the pink haired male.

It was to be expected, a kind, warm and talented guy like Sakura was awakened not only admiration in people, but something more…

She frowned irritated at the scene before her; because even if she tried to convince herself that this was not her scope, it was annoying to think that the boy let himself be overwhelmed by these kind of attentions —attentions which, she supposed, he did not wish for; and that, for this reason, was that the usual kindness and attention of the medic bothered her so much.

Why couldn’t he simply decline this kind of attentions? Why couldn’t he just focus on his team? What did it cost him to take initiative for once and tell her the things she wanted to hear?

She gasped at this last thought, recognizing in that instant the motive of her annoyance.

Of course, he was her beloved teammate; someone in who she trusted fully and always took care of not only her but Naruto too, it was natural for her to start developing feelings for him.

She silently had wished for those attentions and kindness to be exclusively for her.

Still with her gaze fixated on the boy surrounded by the rest of the civilians, their glances met from miles of distance. It was like she had been thrown a signal to make her move. So, maybe he was the male in their team, but she was definitely the most reckless out of the three. Taking a deep breath, she held his stare with determination and made her way through those who surrounded him.

She ignored completely the rejoinder and whispers of those around while she took firmly the wrist of the boy and pulled him away of the baffled females.

When she was certain they were far enough from the curious stares, she let go of his wrist and turned so she could face him.

“I have something to tell you…” she spoke firmly, ignoring her evident blush that did nothing but to awake the curiosity in her teammate. At his strong green stare, she could not help but feel embarrassed “…I like you” she declared finally, although avoiding to see his expression at her recent confession.

Taken by surprise, it took Sakura a few seconds to articulate a reply.

“Wait, I thought you hated me” he confessed, still surprised by the feelings of his less affectionate teammate.

“Well, that too” the girl with dark hair confirmed still blushed and pouting while she avoided staring at him directly, but briefly glancing back to the medic boy.

“How so?” he asked, not being able to suppress his curiosity. Although he had always had an interest for the girl, knowing she somehow corresponded his feelings did nothing but wake new doubts in him, especially now she assured to have them along with her… distaste?

“You’re too kind with everyone, people who would never do the same for you and that won’t hesitate to put you in danger” she complained and clicked her tongue, arms folding; finally looking at him but with a frown “You shouldn’t trust people so much”.

He refrained from commenting anything about her observation, conscious that it was not the case at all. His profession was indeed about being kind and careful with his patients, but that did not mean he trusted everyone; it was just like she had told, in this profession there was too much danger. Even though it was not this observation that had caught his attention, but rather the fact that it was her teammate who had shown her concern for what he did.

“Are you by any chance jelous?” he wondered aloud, her reaction confirming his hunch.

The Uchiha heiress widened her eyes while the warmness she had noticed seconds earlier on her cheeks spread through all her face with strength.

Letting out a light chuckle, Sakura got closer to her and as a result she took a few steps back. Arching one of his pink eyebrows, he inclined his head in amusement.

“I think you are”.

“I am not” she refuted weakly, making the boy to laugh again and that her blush remained as vividly affecting her face.

“Good to know, because you’re still the only one I’m interested in anyway” the apprentice of the fifth Hokage declared, his face showing that warm and affectionate look that was only directed to her, his reckless teammate.

It was after a raid. A raid in which he once held great pride over.

It was an assassination of a alcohol company - which in itself wouldn’t have been notable, but this time it was a special sort of mission commissioned by the scum of a boss, Sawada Tsunayoshi, himself. Not that Xanxus really listened to him, he would’ve gone after the target anyways. After all, any rats tainting the Vongola name must be exterminated.

He got the general gist of what they stole: a powerful formula to disable the circulatory system. Turns out they’ve been planning to sneak it through the border in one of their branded wine barrels.

Time, location, numbers, and percentage - it’s all he needed. Scum was scum no matter what they stole. It didn’t matter to him.

Later that week, Squalo and the men he deployed came back with crates full of tequila and bourbon.

He barely lost any of his men (not that he cared as much - anything was better to get Squalo over his bitching), the mission succeeded within the calculated time, got rid of the rats and more, the worst injury the Varia dealt was an amputated leg, and the best part of all, he barely had to get off his ass.

And he had you to thank for it.

Not that he would admit it outright of course. But being the newest member of the Varia Elite, you took over as Squalo’s other half in battle; a competent leader with sharp instincts. Ever since you came, the rate of successful missions went up by four percent and well, let’s just say missions weren’t the only thing you succeeded at.

It was no secret you and Xanxus were in some sort of physical and emotional bond. It wasn’t a normal “relationship” per say but at least he actually gave a damn about you.

So to celebrate, Xanxus took you out on a nice date (which never happened to hookers or escorts he brought home before you).

That night, you confessed going steady.

“Let’s stop beating around the bush like some Disney rom-com. I like you Xanxus. More than just a fuck buddy- err... fuck subordinate?”

That night, you felt like you heart stopped when he said “yes”.

“I wouldn’t have taken scum out on a fucking date, idiot. You were mine to begin with.”

“Well, aren’t you prince charming?”

“Shut the fuck up and drink your wine. I’m giving you time until I finish this bottle. I’ve been dying to fuck your over my-.”

“Dammit Xanxus we’re in public.”

That night, you mumbled the sweetest words in his ears.

That night, you kissed him like it was your last.

That night, you were embraced by his warmth and love.

That night, you slept together.

That night, you never woke up.

Xanxus was greeted with your cold and unmoving body - the first thought he had was to quickly grab his guns and shoot the bastard who killed you. But after he sensed he was alone, he quickly grabbed you and hunted down Lussuria.

Turns out the raid you led wasn’t as successful as he initially thought. The worst immediate injury was an amputated leg. The worst, torturous injury was a biochemical pathogen from the small cut on your leg.

He had so little time - having not noticed you were slowly decaying from the inside out all night. And even less time when he went on a rampage trying to kill anything to sate his wrath. Squalo eventually shook him out of it when he said you needed a heart transplant now or else.

4 hours left...

Turns out, he couldn’t find a single donor or sacrifice that was compatible with you. And your breath was already fleeting by the second. Your skin was paling, a patchwork of purple and blue from your corroded flames. Spasms, foaming, and speech inability.

It sickened him to see you like this. He felt so powerless. It was like being encapsulated in that fucking ice again. Awake but unable to act.

3 hours, 59 minutes left...

Eventually he did find one. One in his immediate vicinity that was guaranteed at least 99% of your survival. Time was ticking and he had to make a choice. It was either you-

You weren’t exactly the most physically strong, nor were you psychologically. So it was a wonder why you ever betrothed a man that required both. It was a taxing relationship, sure, but you loved your prideful little shark. Despite his profession, he was one of the most respectful individual you’ve ever met. He was protective but not possessive. He was constantly on edge and stressed from work yet always made time for you. He gave you his loyalty and love, which you returned with equal, if not more, ardor.

His favourite place to spend time with you was your in your family’s cafe. Good coffee, wine, desserts, and company. What more could he want? It was also there that he first met you. You weren’t a civilian to say, but you definitely weren’t involved in the mafia completely either. So when you saw his bloodied and ragged half-dead body in the back alleyway of your family’s shop, you hid and nursed him back to health. He wasn’t exactly the picture-perfect guest with his incessant screaming and refusal to accept aid but you somehow managed to come to an agreement when you told him he wasn’t indebted to you.

(You later found out it was because he didn’t want to endanger you or your family because of your kindness.)

Not that he agreed before he left. After a couple months of absence, Squalo suddenly showed up to your doorstep, in guise of wanting to “pay off his debt”. Your family took him in with open arms; your mother always waggling her eyebrows at you whenever you were alone with him and your father patting him on the back after protecting the store from some spiteful reviewers.

Your relationship followed naturally after that. You sought his respectable and sometimes adorable demeanor and he sought after your solace in contrast to his cruel world.

What he should’ve expected was that cruel world following his trail.

It was the a chilly fall day. He was heading over to the cafe after his meeting with an allied famiglia took longer than he expected. In his pocket was a wedding ring. Not one for dramatics, he already confessed that he’d propose to you sometime in the near future and you already said yes.

Squalo knew not to fall in love, to allow his loyalty to split between the man he’d follow til death and the woman he’d love until death did you part. He also knew the innate dangers that would follow you and yet you still agreed. He told you about everything - the stress, dangers, betrayal, trust - it wasn’t like he wanted to deter you away from him but he needed to.

Despite all that, you still remained loyal.

Too bad that loyalty costed you your life.

He heard gunshots and screaming from your direction.

He rushed over as fast as he could.

But it was too late.

The windows were shattered, civiliians ran, and the gunner shot himself. In the middle was you - bloodied and just barely hanging on the last thread of life with your parents desperately trying to reach the paramedics.

Squalo’s heart cracked and steeled, calling Lussuria and Mammon on the phone. Deaths weren’t uncommon, hell, being in the Varia meant facing certain doom on the daily. But seeing to someone he cared for like this? ...resurfaced painful memories.

You were rushed to the mafia’s top private medics while your parents wept silently in the waiting room. Squalo blamed himself, he blamed the damn meeting, and the damn gunner. But he had to stay calm - if not for himself, for you and your parents.

When news came that you needed a heart transplant, he his heart nearly split in two. He knew from experience how fucking painful a heart transplant was. There wasn’t even a word to describe the sensation. But above all else, he knew that a compatible donor was extremely difficult to find.

And lo and behold, there were no donors in the vicinity.

You only had a couple hours left. Time was ticking.

He had to make a split second decision.

No donors, but two sacrifices.

He ground his teeth together, knowing that you could never forgive him after this - he wouldn’t either.

He steeled his heart, and made sure his blade was sharpened. It was. It always was.

He loomed over the crying pair.

He whispered sweet nothings to your parents, reassuring your survival.

They tried to smile and comfort him as well through the salty tears and hoarse wails.

He steeled his heart.

To save you.

headcanon: how alex turner became 009

-the son of former agent frances turner was a brilliant young codebreaker whose secret research into a foolproof lie detector was deemed too costly and risky for mi6, especially after alex was almost killed when spectre went after his hard drive

-at q’s request, the best of her majesty’s secret service, 007, was sent out to retrieve him and the research was - at least officially - abandoned. it was reckless to risk a double-oh’s life to rescue a junior-level q-branch researcher, but there was no way q was going to sacrifice one of the most outstanding minds he has ever come across in his department. it certainly helped that he lived with said double-oh, and could persuade him to do anything after a good late night shag

-q also understood alex’s experience - he too was kidnapped and nearly killed when spectre went after his early renderings of the smartblood program. he vowed to protect his team of innovators and pioneers at all costs

-alex was hospitalized and treated accordingly but he was never the same after the incident. both his identity and his life were nearly compromised. he was also heartbroken by the way he was forced to abandon his civilian boyfriend, so as not to reveal his actual profession or risk danny’s safety. furthermore, frances never called to check up on him. strangely enough, it was after his rescue that he felt more abandoned than ever 

-q visited alex’s room in medical often, and also went to his new flat with tea and cake to check up on him. the two of them bonded over their shared love of algorithms and discreet gadgetry, but perhaps more importantly, their harrowing experiences with spectre. they also exchanged mind-boggling stories about the white persian cat they encountered, and they could have sworn she was hissing orders at the henchmen

-q could relax in these settings, because in q-branch he couldn’t openly favor some team members over others - but here he all but confessed that alex was his favorite. the two of them were also close in age, with q being only four years older

-it wasn’t long before alex asked q about his relationship with “the legendary and infamous” 007. alex was too smart not to have known anyway, q figured. that was when q finally - finally - asked about danny. he could see the pain and longing in alex’s eyes, even almost a year on. he thought about all those times he himself lay awake at night, paralyzed by fear and heartbreak and resentment, when james bond was presumed dead. if q felt justified being the romantic partner of a double-oh agent, then alex deserved to be allowed contact - and perhaps a chance at love again - with a civilian like danny 

-q was going to help make that happen, because unbeknownst to mi6 (with the exception of m) q was also a holt. danny happened to be his half-brother [alternative headcanon: the two of them crossed paths as children, but the bottom line is that danny is definitely no stranger to q]

-when alex resumed shifts in q-branch he had trouble readjusting. he felt stared at, pitied, and gossiped about. while q always did his best as a department head to boost morale and promote collaboration, q-branch was a highly competitive place with extremely ambitious people. it also didn’t help that like other sections of mi6, q-branch was a place full of secrets, because different people had different levels of security clearance based on assessments, recommendations, and assignments from q and m. members of q-branch didn’t know exactly who was given a particular kind of green light except for the higher-ups

-when an opportunity opened up for the role of a junior-level agent, q approached alex, and then quietly recommended him to m. while mi6 never confirmed its operations, this was a role that was on the books; a role the public knew existed. the service officially had some 3500 agents around the world who worked in the shadows for decades, patiently collecting intelligence. while they were all heavily trained for violent scenarios, most did not encounter them

But the Carter name carries a certain weight within S.H.I.E.L.D.  While training rigorously for a year and a half at the Academy, Sharon strove to differentiate herself from the founder who shared her name, setting out to mark her own place within S.H.I.E.L.D.  Sharon proved herself exceptional, receiving top marks in combat and marksmanship and showing a glowing talent for espionage.  These skills would not only later earn her the title of Agent 13, but saw her career taking off in domestic and international counter-terrorism, her assignments sending her far and wide to gather intel on terrorist cells and demobilize them.  It was during one of these missions, embedded within Afghanistan, that she lost contact with S.H.I.E.L.D.  The organization, for all its resources, cut her loose and declared her dead; for four months, Sharon was forced to survive by any means necessary– some violent, others degrading, and S.H.I.E.L.D. - crippled by the Skrull invasion - made no effort to recover her.

Sharon returned to the States having fought tooth and nail to get there, arriving home in tumultuous times with both S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers recovering from the damage left in the wake of the invasion.  She took a brief leave of absence before taking up the position of Deputy Director, helping to usher in a seemingly unparalleled era of efficiency within the intelligence agency.  She oversaw much of the events surrounding Tony Stark and Harry Osborn’s Extremis Project, leading up to the celebration of their landmark breakthrough at the Empire City Casino, where she ran rescue and containment during the civilian crisis created by the Hulk.

Though loyal to S.H.I.E.L.D., Sharon is guided by a strong moral compass and won’t hesitate to speak out if her ethics are challenged.  Stubborn and brash, she makes for a fierce opponent and an even fiercer friend.  The months she spent in Afghanistan have emphasized her cynical nature and further fueled her desire to ensure justice within S.H.I.E.L.D. and for the civilians they help protect.

As Deputy Director, Sharon attended a ceremonial signing of the Accords atop S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Iliad Helicarrier along with Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes.  The signing was meant to be a gesture of goodwill and unite S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers on the matter of superhero registration, but the event fell into disarray at the unseen hands of HYDRA, igniting tensions to a blaze.  During the memorial for the agents who lost their lives in the crash, Alexander Pierce was assassinated.  His death seemingly brought about at the hands of Bucky Barnes, S.H.I.E.L.D. mounted a manhunt which culminated in Barnes handing himself into S.H.I.E.L.D.

Sharon has made a hard-won effort in adhering to the jurisdiction of the Accords, costing her relationships while merely straining others.  However, as the years have passed in the wake of the Hart Island prison break and the horrors that were discovered there, her loyalty and faith in S.H.I.E.L.D. have been put to the test with the increasing concern that the organization she’s devoted herself to may not be what it claims.

Addressing an adoring crowd of supporters in Melbourne, Florida, on Saturday, President Donald Trump promised new action to restrict immigration next week, and a plan to replace the Affordable Care Act soon after that.

“I’ve ordered the construction of a great border wall, which will start very shortly. And I’ve taken dramatic action to keep radical Islamic terrorists the hell out of our country,” Trump said at the rally in a hangar at the Orlando-Melbourne International Airport, drawing some of the loudest cheers of his speech.

Trump acknowledged, however, that a federal appeals court had halted his earlier attempt to ban refugees and citizens of seven Muslim-majority nations from entering the country. After criticizing the ruling by the panel of three judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, he announced his intention to proceed with alternative plans.

“We will do something next week. I think you’ll be impressed,” Trump said. “Let’s see what happens. Here’s the bottom line: We’ve got to keep our country safe.”

It was not clear if Trump meant that his administration will try to challenge the 9th Circuit’s ruling at the Supreme Court, or if he’ll instead issue a modified executive order that might avoid some of the legal challenges of the directive he issued late last month.

Trump went on to cite alleged instances of refugee-perpetrated crimes and terrorism in Europe as evidence that the U.S. should adopt a more restrictive refugee policy.

Naming a host of different European countries and cities, Trump suggested that there had been a terror attack in Sweden the previous night.

“You look at what’s happening in Germany, you look at what’s happening last night in Sweden. Sweden. Who would believe this? Sweden,” he said. “They took in large numbers. They’re having problems like they never thought possible.”

Many observers promptly pointed out that no such attack had occurred in the Scandinavian nation.

He also repeated his false claim that the United States has already let in thousands of people who “there was no way to vet.”

In fact, refugees undergo the most rigorous vetting process of any immigrants admitted to the United States, often waiting upwards of two years to be cleared for entry. 

Trump’s now-halted travel ban froze the admission of all refugees for 120 days and indefinitely barred refugees from Syria.

But Trump reiterated his plan to create so-called safe zones to protect civilians in Syria, a controversial proposal that he cut from an earlier draft of his travel ban. 

“We’re gonna have the Gulf States pay for those safe zones. They have nothing but money,” Trump said Saturday.

The president also claimed that he would unveil a proposal for replacing the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare, in two weeks.

“We are going to be submitting, in a couple of weeks, a great health care plan that’s going to take the place of the disaster known as Obamacare,” Trump said, prompting applause. “It will be repealed and replaced.”

Trump’s professed timetable echoes comments he and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) made at separate press conferences on Thursday, when they claimed the White House and Congress would be rolling out their replacement plan some time next month.

On Saturday, Trump did not provide much additional detail about what the plan will entail, other than to say, “Our plan will be much better health care at a much lower cost.” 

Most experts believe there is virtually no way to maintain levels of insurance coverage, reduce costs and ensure quality of care without some combination of the regulations, subsidies and individual insurance mandate that form the nucleus of the ACA.

Congressional Republicans initially planned to repeal the landmark health care law when they took office in January and replace it later at a time to be determined. Angry constituents have since accosted dozens of Republican members of Congress at town hall meetings, demanding to know how they would replace the law.

In response to public uproar and Trump’s own admonitions, they have slowed down their efforts to deliberate over how best to execute the law’s repeal.

First lady Melania Trump made her first public appearance since the inauguration to introduce him and recite the Lord’s Prayer. 

Trump then launched into his typical campaign themes, castigating the media, lavishing praise on his supporters and running through his ordinary talking points about bringing jobs back to the country and eliminating the crime he claims is plaguing America’s cities.

At one point, Trump harkened back to the theatrics that made him such a skilled campaigner. Spotting Gene Huber, a supporter he had seen interviewed on television, Trump invited him on stage with him.

“I saw this man on television just now ― you,” Trump said, pointing to Huber in the audience. “He said, ‘I love Trump. Let Trump do what he has to do.’ That’s my guy right there.”

“Let him up, let him up ― I’m not worried about him. I’m only worried he’s gonna give me a kiss,” he said, apparently addressing the Secret Service.

Huber, clad in a black Trump t-shirt, made his way through the barriers and onto the stage, clearly overcome by emotion. Trump hugged him and asked him to address the crowd from the podium.

“Mr. President, thank you sir. We the people, our movement is the reason why our president of the United States is standing here in front of us today,” Huber said. “When President Trump, during the election, promised all these things that he was gonna do for us ― I knew that he was gonna do this for us.”

“A star is born. A star is born,” Trump declared when he was done as the crowd chanted “U-S-A!”

Although the crowd of Trump supporters inside the hangar was thousands-strong, there was also a sizable contingent of protesters across the street.

“I felt compelled to come, even though I was a little frightened because this is not always an easy thing,” Elizabeth Faiella, who was protesting, told CNN. “But I don’t want the world to think that this gentleman represents how we feel ― about immigrants, about our environment, about our justice system.”

And let us pay attention to the political and economic landscape and the disaffection with neo-liberalism that is sweeping the Western World that appears to have ushered in an era belonging to the ‘Right.’ Trump demands, not invites, corporations, unions — and both his supporters and critics — to begin the reindustrialization of America and a revitalization of the American ‘spirit’ and, as such, he appears to be closing the ‘temple doors of liberalism.’ He cited the ‘Almighty God’ in his inaugural speech as a true friend of the United States and overlord of all that exists. President Trump’s words and actions, thus far, point to a movement of the zealous religious-patriotic type that, if it is to succeed, must start with instilling a frenzied populist nationalism in the consciousness of most of America. Trump and staff members like Kellyanne Conway and Sean Spicer exhibit the zealotry of a once persecuted ideology and movement that now finds itself legitimized and holding the reins of power. Like Trump, the butt of criticism and satire for so long, they are overly defensive and create ‘facts’ that square with their vision and not necessarily reality. The Non-Believers Will Pay In Trump’s America, enemies and blasphemers are the Republican and Democratic elites responsible for, or complicit in, replacing American labor with underpaid workers based in China, Mexico, India and the Philippines who have heretofore manufactured automobiles, cell phones and clothing. And the bad guys are those companies who have turned raw materials into airframes, computers and fiber optic cable abroad and then shipped them back to the US homeland free-of-border-charges.  It is federal, state and local governments who have allowed the American infrastructure — roads, bridges, rail, public education — to rot away. Those same governing levels sat idly by as the murder of civilians and law enforcement personnel took place.  Taking this further, it is anti-Trump Americans on the streets who do not support Trump. Indeed, enemies may come to include those who choose not to follow the leader and dissent publicly. Trump has said repeatedly that he will punish US corporations who manufacture overseas and then export finished goods to the USA by tax or tariff. What will be the penalty for those who challenge or question President Trump like CNN news? Pilloried, perhaps? “Congratulations to @FoxNews for being number one in inauguration ratings. They were many times higher than FAKE NEWS @CNN – public is smart!”, Trump opined in a Tweet on January 24. Will another House Committee on Un-American Activities subtly reemerge? “I will be asking for a major investigation into VOTER FRAUD, including those registered to vote in two states, those who are illegal and even, those registered to vote who are dead (and many for a long time). Depending on results, we will strengthen up voting procedures!”, Trump said in a Tweet on January 25. Trump has even blasted sacrosanct American aerospace and defense giants like Boeing and Lockheed for cost overruns on key aviation programs. Would Trump take it a notch higher if he knew that Boeing helps fund STEM education for Chinese students in China. Why not bring that money to the USA? Now What? Diktat by Twitter For years, critics of neo-liberalism (me too) have made the argument that the corporations that own the Republican and Democratic political parties were gutting the US Constitution, Bill of Rights and ideals contained in the Declaration of Independence. The 30 percent that own most of the wealth in America were enriching themselves at the expense of the remaining 70 percent, many who are only a few paydays from bankruptcy.  And they are killing the White, Black and Latino classes  that live paycheck to paycheck, with many strung out on legal smack from the pharmaceutical conglomerates but do not have the political clout that Identity Politics brings. “The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of our country. Their victories have not been your victories. Their triumphs have not been your triumphs. And while they celebrated in our nation’s capital, there was little to celebrate for struggling families all across our land. That all changes starting right here and right now because this moment is your moment, it belongs to you,” President Trump said during his inaugural speech on January 20. “Never before have the people thirsted for authority, direction, order, as they do now,” said Mussolini. “If Chicago doesn’t fix the horrible ‘carnage’ going on, 228 shootings in 2017 with 42 killings (up 24% from 2016), I will send in the Feds”, Trump tweeted on January 24. What if Trump succeeds? Who is Trump’s Director of National Intelligence Going to Be? The NSA and Cyber Command Chief Admiral Mike Rogers took it upon himself to interview with the then president-elect Trump without seeking clearance from the former Commander in Chief, Director of National Intelligence and the Secretary of Defense to do so. Apparently he did not feel a duty to his chain of command, instead seeking to advance the prospect of Trump selecting him to be the next Director of National Intelligence. Roger’s superiors halfheartedly recommended that he be relieved of command, but never really pursued the matter. Under Roger’s watch significant security breaches took place at NSA and his management style left a lot to be desired. According to the Washington Post: Instead, in the past year and a half, officials have discovered two major compromises of sensitive hacking tools by personnel working at the NSA’s premier hacking unit: the Tailored Access Operations (TAO). One involved a Booz Allen Hamilton contractor, Harold T. Martin III, who is accused of carrying out the largest theft of classified government material. Rogers was put on notice by his two [direct] bosses — Clapper and Carter — that he had to get control of internal security and improve his leadership style. There have been persistent complaints from NSA personnel that Rogers is aloof, frequently absent and does not listen to staff input. If Admiral Rogers is Trump’s choice for DNI, the 17 intelligence agencies under the DNI’s watch are not likely to be pleased. And all Americans would do well to ‘watch their six’ with a rogue kindred Trump spirit the DNI head. Trump could select Frances Townsend, a TV personality like Trump, and former Homeland Security Advisor to President George W. Bush. On the other hand, Townsend worked for CNN and now does so for CBS, a black mark upon her soul, apparently. “Big day planned on NATIONAL SECURITY tomorrow. Among many other things, we will build the wall!” Trump proclaimed on January 24. Who knows? Is President Donald Trump the Elmer Gantry of the Oval Office? Is he the Donald Trump fighting Don King in Celebrity Death Match?  Is he a hypocrite that demeans the US federal government even as his Washington, DC, hotel is on a site that he leases from the US General Services Administration?
