Remnants of Grace
[Here's my story of Bad Boy x Rivamika đ¸]
-------------------++++-------------------------
Levi and Mikasa sharing tea -levi4Mikasađ¸
The gentle hill breeze carried the fragrant scent of wildflowers mingled with the aroma of freshly brewed tea. Levi sat outside Mikasa's new home on the hill, cup in hand, as Gabi and Falco listened with rapt attention to his painful recollections.
"In the depths of that underground hell, my mother was the only light," Levi's voice was hushed but intense. "So full of poise and grace, even while drowning in squalor and filth. The way she cradled her delicate tea cup was a vision of elegance personified."
His steel-grey eyes grew distant as the anguished memories resurfaced. "She instructed me how to hold it properly by the handle, one of the few gentilities that grounded us in humanity." Levi swallowed hard. "That is, until those bastard thugs invaded our ruined sanctuary."
Anguish contorted his expression as he relived that fateful day. "They shattered what little beauty we had, stealing away my mother's beloved cup among other precious keepsakes." Levi's fists clenched, knuckles straining against taut skin. "I flew into a blind rage, chasing and slaughtering those filthy criminals without mercy. "
Levi's gaze dropped in desolation to the simple vessel cradled so tenderly in his calloused hands. "When I tried using the tea the way she had taught me, the handle broke completely," he whispered, pain lacing every word. "So I vowed to support the cup's without using the handle "
So lost in the torrent of wrenching grief was Levi that he hadn't noticed Mikasa standing numbly in the doorway until their eyes met. Mirrored anguish pierced them both as tears slipped silently down Mikasa's cheeks đ. She ached for the pain Levi endured over his mother's loss, her own heart reopening that familiar wound of having one's family savagely ripped away - her parents killed by human traffickers when she was just a child.
Two irreparably scarred souls were eternally bonded by the cruel injustice that orphaned their childhoods far too soon. Levi's stoic facade crumbled, his own tears scorching their path down his impenetrable exterior. United in empathy over that shared profound loss, they tasted anew the exquisite anguish that only the irreparably broken could fathom.
Levi felt something loosen within him as his gaze lingered on Mikasa's tear-stained beauty. - a shard of the armored walls he had erected beginning to splinter and fall away.
Chapter 2--
After Gabi and Falco had retreated home for the evening and the last echoes of dinner conversation drifted away, only Levi and Mikasa remained. A comfortable silence stretched between them as the first stars began winking into the twilit sky.
Levi cleared his throat, the roughness in his voice softening as he spoke. "More tea?" he offered, holding up the porcelain pot.
Mikasa nodded, their eyes meeting in mutual understanding. So much was left unspoken, entire lifetimes of tending to wounds that never fully healed.
As Levi poured the steaming amber liquid, he knew this simple act contained far greater meaning and weight. This was his invitation, one he hoped Mikasa would accept.
"Stay a while?" His gruff question seemed to contain multitudes. Stay and talk...open up...unlock the burden I've carried too long alone.
A small smile played across Mikasa's lips as she cradled the warm cup. "I'm not going anywhere, Levi."
In that moment, the impenetrable walls around both their hearts seemed to soften just a bit. Perhaps here, under the canopy of stars, some sliver of peace could finally be found as their anguished solitudes interlocked.

[ This Post takes after the events of Stray and Fire Lessons. If you aren't up to date then I suggest you read them to get a better understanding of where we are currently at ]Â
The Leviathan lay motionless in wait beneath the surface. Only the glint of their golden gaze moved.
Twice now they have sensed the soul traveling across their territory.Â
Golden.
Warm.
Like the sun, it attracted the Lugia having left their lair to greet this soul, a pulse that beat hard and called to them. As if they were a dog drawn to heel. Only one such attraction would do this to them. But they knew it was impossible.
Anger boiled in their blood.
A show of grisled teeth.Â

Where is her soulâŚ?Â
Who has broken the chain?!Â
Where is REIKO?!Â

The Phoenix glided upon the thermals as he traveled back home. Weary lines and shadows beneath his eyes formed as he gave a strong beat to prevent himself from seeping into the ocean below. Only his talons grazed the ocean blue, the bitter chill of water causing the Ho-oh to jostle with alertness as he maintained his height.Â
Teach ran me through the wringer. But Zhen was so ever proud to have to show his capabilities off to another. Today he may be tired, but less could be said about his optimism, a light shining in his eyes. He could wait to show off, an eagerness to his tempo, a grin along his beak.
One step at a time, a chant he reminds himself of, the Ho-oh lifting his head higher, his speed increasing.Â
ImposterâŚÂ
The Ho-oh winced and looked about, becoming stationary in the air. The pain vibrated through his skull. What the hell? A torrent of rain, lightning splintering over the skies.
IMPOSTER!!
The Ho-oh faltered in the sky, losing altitude as the voice filled with unveiled menace pierced his head. He stared with horror as he fell, greeting with open jaws lunging from the murky depths.
"Shit!"
Sharply pulling from his descent, Zhen flapped his wings to gain altitude. He felt the painful pull on his rear as he rose to the skies.Â
A Lugia?!
WHERE IS SHE?!
"I don't know who the hell you're talking about!" Zhen screeched as he flew off in a flurry, daring a glance back to see the Lugia hotly pursuing after him, tails feathers in maw. NOT MY FEATHERS.
A price to pay as the Ho-oh fled, avoiding the strikes of lightning as he flew.

Praise The Heavenly Goddess and Her Love.
Ë ŕźâĄ âď˝ĄË featuring Poseidon and Hades
YOUR FONDNESS, LORD POSEIDON ; masterlist
(.n) Divination is also the agent which brings about good relations between Gods, because it knows what aspects of love. With the words that helps the couple from Hadesâ wise head, it is how their love started to appear.
âSo, she just flew away to Demeterâs place as soon the news reached her ears?â
Silver strands of hair swayed following the direction of his head, glancing to the bored expression that etched upon his brotherâs face. A small thud aired after Hades lets his frame fall atop of the cozy sofa, earning a frown from the sea God. Those ocean eyes of his move up from the pile of papers on his desk, gazing at his older brotherâs strong presence. âYes, so you may go.â
A deep chuckle grumbles under his breath, âWhy so? I did come here to see my Little One, but I do have another Little One here, am I correct?â
His face scrunches in disgust as he notices what Hades referred to was he himself. Hours prior, the sea God was savoring the only time he secretly enjoys in his day ; being with that little Goddess who he demanded to stay in his manor longer than what the agreement with Morpheus and Hera saidâ with a reason that she still needs learning for she is still very mortal, though every souls who stands upon Olympus could say, how divine she already is and how wise she is as a half, within just 2 years.
Poseidon had to witness how the beam spreads in second within those cheeks of hers, gleaming orbs distracted from him upon the arrival of the Underworld couple in the Heaven, and the very courtesy she granted before those feet bring herself hastily to where the spring Goddess is ; she is very fond of these two, even in her early day of immortal, for her, Hades and Persephone are the closest deity she claims to have a human relationship with herself, since many Gods do not have much benevolence towards othersâ Poseidon, as in example.
âOut of curiosity, I may know her development, since MelinĂśe and Morpheus did talk about the work involved with her.â Says Hades, never grows tired of wasting his words for his dear brother.
âAsk her yourself. I did not remember anything.â
A squint in Hadesâ eyes brings a slight discomfort to the sea God, as those piercing eyes of his glance to the opened luxurious box in an empty rack of his bookshelf, filled with hand-picked finest pearls of his ocean, messily rearranged in a gold thin chain as if someone tries to stringing it into a necklace. âThen, mind telling me about that feminine thing?â
Poseidon lets out a grunt, slamming a hand to the table as seconds prior he used it to let his face rest upon. It is clear that he does not want to answer, whilst he himself scolds his reckless act for not hiding the stuff, did not expect his brother to come in without any arrival announcement. âThere is nothing.â
Hades nods to himself plenty of times, observing the room while his pointer finger taps upon the armrest. Though the words that left his brotherâs lips are bold and stern, he himself can dive down to the look that Poseidon has each time Hades mentions the Goddessâ name. Not to bring only warmth to the sea God, the elder deity does have a peculiar sense of being affected by the way a love does change him.
For the ruler of the Underworld, the first 6 months after her ascension were not always filled with the tenderness of his fatherhoodâ instead what lies beneath is vigilance he showed in his mien before her. With his very brotherly instinct, and for eons he watches the God of the sea ; who has never lowered those eyes of his to any Goddesses, let alone a half-blooded one, it is plausible to aim that he is cautious with what awaits ahead. Does she serve to attract luster for herself? Does she desire the gold crown to be claimed as the one in his reign? What makes his little brother accept her?
O, darling Hades. With only 3 months of association, the very obviousness poured its wet realization to his own version of herself ; whilst his dearest wifeâ the spring Goddess, Persephone, does take the fascination upon her company around with twinkle within her eyes that speak, âHusband, if only I can wish to meet her before Lady Hera did and be the one who escorts her to this very stage.â
It is truly the power she has in her full consciousness ; what enchants any mortal to immortal lives to take a look with their adoration and astonishment. No one expected that her perfect facade managed to break down the most fearsome God aliveâ Poseidon himself.
âI found no mistake in being smitten, brother mine. Let alone denying what your heart already urges.â
He witnesses the growth of their chemistry, how the light shines brighter in her face when she encounters her loved one, how something equivalent with affection writes itself within his eyes each time he sees her, how the atmosphere goes dreamy and fluff with the two of them. There is no mistake, they are in love.
âWhat do you want, Hades?â The sea God seems to grow fatigued with his own brotherâs fuss in his place ; while he puts down whatever engages him, he lets those cold blue eyes meet his other ones.
He shrugs his shoulders, âI see the stars shine within those cold blue of yours each time she is before.â
âWhat an ugly statement. Try again.â His sharp tongue throws a sarcasm which pulls a chuckle from Hadesâ lips.
âMy, for I certainly cannot say what greater blessing there can be for any man or God To have the right of heavenly Goddess and her love.â An amused glint is shown upon his eyes as Hades notices how his brotherâs chiseled body grows tense with the mention of the sweet one who has dwelling inside his mind every day since the 2 years.
Those soft lips go in a thin-pursued line, eyelashes illuminating the softening look he tries to hide from Hades with his usual stern demeanor. âThe love that belongs to the heavenly goddess is fair and fairer than any gold, hence those who are showered with the love revealed doing something graceful too.â
âI alone am alreadyââ âWe all know it, Poseidon. You are becoming more humane around her, which is holding the grace in the art of living as a perfect God. Do take care of your own loneliness. Even the wisest king does have a caring hand of a woman who sincerely stays in a marriage.â
His jaw tightens as a form of response to his brotherâs insolent sentencesâ but what holds him back? Is it because it came from the lips of the first one who gained his whole respect as his equal? Or is it also because what he said is true?
âWhat makes the heavenly love fair, since it compels the lover to take great care with regard to his own excellence and the beloved to do the same. All belong to that sweet goddess, when will you take it to be yours too?â
âYou know nothing. I demand you to stop telling me what to do for I am the one who has the right to give myself an order.â Poseidon throws a menace in his gaze, yet the tone that wraps his voice is evident for anyone who hears it, that he just is protecting his pride.
âSaid the little brother to his older brother who has been married for eons, having the greatest love with his only eternal flower that blooms in my dead atmosphere?â A frustrated sigh leaves his lips as he gets up from the cozy sofa, walking closer to where his brother sits
Hades puts a gentle smile upon his face, though Poseidon can not witness it for he is dismissing his sight from him, which brings the God of the Underworld a giddy feeling of seeing the sea God being his little brother. âDo not ever waste the time, Poseidon. never thinks of you procrastinating on claiming her heart before her light leaves your world. let it surge like your sea to your veins.â
Before Poseidon can slam whatever force he has within his fist or summon his trident, the elder God gives a soft pat upon his fluffy blond head before disappearing to wherever the God of the sea does not know, not even like he wants to think about it too.
He lets his body fall to the backrest of his chair, eyelids flutter close to conceal the sapphire eyes. It is only a half of the day, yet his brotherâs visit did waste his energy. But what a shame, Poseidon finds himself recalling what Hades had said to him, connecting the dots by the end he meets her name echoes within his head. Indeed, she is a goddess. Each sway of her legs, the universe yields to her. Her wise wings which cradle the world, not even he realizes that she cradles him too.
If only Hades did not mention how he might lose her at any time, Poseidon would not let his head full of many things related to her. He remembers how the sun always beams upon her cheeks ever since they first met and until this very day, and how it grows sweeter and delicate with her loving touch, that speaks to him, speaks of her love. How silly, he himself declared God needs no companions as for he might not understand what is so great from being in love, since the matrimonies around him are filled with treason that brings only pain.
Or maybe, if it is as strong as her pleasurable love and with the high tenet I have for living without betrayal, it will not be a really sorrowful union. What did I think?
What a tiring coversationâ no, he really wants her. And it does help to encourage him.
***
âOh? You are finished with her?â
Pulling out one of his hands from his pocket, Hades waves his hand playfully in the air as soon as the sight of a gleaming Goddess enters his range. The satin fabric of her simple dress flows as her legs bring her hastily to him, with a smile full of blithesome she puts in her face to greet the God.
âYes! I remembered I have not said anything to Lord Poseidon but ran away hours ago, and I feel bad.â A soft chuckle leaves her lips as she tiptoes her feet many times to cease the flooding feeling inside ulon seeing whom she respects after Poseidon, for a month did not meet him due to the business.
He bends his body down, close enough to make her shoves her head back with a funny expression ; a mix of embarrassment and disgust. âSo you neglected my wife, hmm? What a bad kid.â
She hurriedly puts her hands atop of his shoulders, forgetting the small gap between them as the panic rushes her countenance. âIt is not like that! We sure did spend a good amount of time with tea and sweets, though Lady Persephone wanted me to stay a little longer, but I do think I have to give Lady Demeter her time with her daughter.â
A laugh breaks under his breath as he lets his hand fall upon her head, giving it a soft stroke while he straightens himself. âSure, sure. Papa knows what my ladies think. So, I will take my part now?â
Hades offers his arm to the younger deity, insisting her to come with him for a talkâ which she gladly accepts since she knows the sea God will be fine with or without her presence around, oh, he may not care at all about her though. As she wraps her arm around his, her small giggle splits the air. âYes, the special time for a special God.â
A sweet and full of joy coo comes from Hades whilst he dramatically lets his other hand clenched around his left chest. The walk is not so long, though it looks like the God who escorts her, it is her who actually points the direction to her private chamber ; not the bedroom, but another room for her to paint, to sculpt statues, and play instruments. It is specially made for the Goddess, under the demand of the owner of this manor himselfâ Poseidon, as he wants her to feel comfortable in working here.
The smell of hyacinth, and the mildness of vanilla ; the usual scent that trails her body wherever those feets wander shrouds his lungs, with the hint of jasmine essential oil on the table for stuff, acrylic paint fumes and clayâ not so strong and intoxicating. The room is in a medium size, with many finished to half finished paintings of the sea under any skies and colours, the soft touches from any subtle silk that hugs the Divine's body, and the majestic within the sea that he notices to be the one God deserves her art ; Poseidon. In the middle, a fancy sofa stands still with a small table that is decorated with a vase of white roses, which she kindly welcomes him to sit above.
âLittle one, is there something you want to tell me?â
With an usual amused grin, Hades watches the younger deity pour an exquisite teapot to two teacups, revealing a brown clear liquid that has a mild smell of jasmine. A confused mien showed within her face as she let her body rest upon the soft cushion of the sofa in front of him. âAs in what?â
Sipping the sweet tea for a moment, he lets the taste explode on his tongue with its warmth. âHmm, about my brother? Do you need any help?â
As for her, any emotions can be shown clearly upon her face ; and this time, the shock and embarrassment show. Not very dumb, she knows what the God meant with his brother, and where this conversation leads. âNo ⌠? Why is it about Lord Poseidon?â
A deep chuckles grumbles in his chest as he finds it is enticing to see how the little Goddess tries so hard to conceal whatever she has inside from him, when in fact it is obvious how the butterflies break free from her lower tummy whenever their skins colliding in a small form of physical touch, or when those blue eyes find themselves in her eyes.
âShanât you keep your feelings to yourself?â
Teeth against her lower lip, she calms her breath before those orbs glance back to his other ones with wavering sparkles. âHe is not someone worthy for me, it is what it is.â
Oh, Hades tries back a snort upon the funny statementâ or at least for his ears. If only she knows what he can see through his little brother. âNo one deserves to say such a thing, sweet. I am baffled now, why do you two keep denying it?â
âBecause he will not want me, and I do not want to get hurt!â
The demi-Goddess seems to not recognize the words you two as she unconsciously cries out with the frustration she tries to suppress all these years with her pure devotion solely for him. âIt is love who is concerned with the good and finds fulfillment in it in the company of temperance and justice, whether in the earth or here amongst the gods.â
With the guilt starts eating her up ; for the insolent act, she finds no harm within Hadesâ face instead a care that speaks so much. âAnd with the fulfillment and what I have for him, which I am confident enough to say to be the fairest sense of adoration, it is enough to not desire his heart to be mine.â
As I thought, what comes is the greater blessing from heavenly Goddess and her love. âFor if, instead of gratifying your love with only existing in the same divinity equal with Goddesses, as he does claim to be, why not honor both you and his heart?â
The silence pours a cold water all over her sense, for how the astonishment shines within her visageâ Hades finds it as a sweet scene inside his head ; how he feels a sense of proud over his apathetic brother, who now has the greatest love and lets any warmth she can give surge into his marble heart, not to mention her true nature where the red that was running through her veins prior. To how such a Divine can hold a majestic loyalty for years, never lets the fatigue eat her, and shower The Poseidon with the given clarity in her love.
âDo speak your heart, little one. For what he has you shall know it if youâre willing to be open first.â
âWhat if it does not go the way we hoped it âŚâ
The faint voice sounds holding a concealed despair within, as those small hands clench the fabric of her dress. She does not know, though with all the affection she has and the many days she spent with Poseidonâ never did she be brave enough to say that the sea God returns her feelings. To even when Poseidon is well known to shove people away from his gate, putting thick and tall wall around, but how he was willing to sleep in her chamber, listening to her worries, or how he often offers his arm to escort her in a hall full of Divines, as if she is his consort. She only thinks it is a courtesy he shows to one who stays loyal to him.
Afterall, he is Poseidon. A hard God to approach and crack. No one is to blame if the Goddess thinks that way.
Hades gets up, doing the same thing he did to his brother ; patting her crown softly before he walks his feet around the room to appreciate the arts. âTrust me, as his brother.â
A puff of breath leaves her lips as she chooses to give up, accepting the advice he gave her as she follows his steps. The king of the Underworld has his fingers upon his chin as his eyes wander to a painting that does attract his attention ; somehow it speaks Poseidon, with the light blue sea water that glimmers under the sun, which is slightly disguised beneath dark clouds, and the rest of the sea seems dark for its unthinkable depth. âYou do love him so much, too much, little one.â
She giggles in flattery as she stands beside him, ready to give him a guide to her small gallery. âAnd is it a bad thing for being too much?â
Hades tilts his head to her direction, a gentle smile is displayed upon his strong, handsome face. He feels proud of her to finally admit what her heart desires, to show it with confidence lies in it.
âNever in heavenly love.â

Chapter One: Acatalepsy
Acatalepsy (noun): The idea that it is impossible to truly comprehend anything.Â
Pairing: Various x female reader
Summary: You and Xiao have a nice chat.
Warnings: Explicit language
Word count: 2.3k
A/N: Since so many people wanted this series to continue, hereâs officially Chapter One! Happy reading!
    Prologue     Chapter Two    Â
You're still having a hard time believing what you're seeing.Â
In front of you sat Xiao, one of your favorite characters from Genshin Impact, glaring daggers at your seated form. A small table, no bigger than three feet wide, separated you from him.Â
And there you sat across from him, shaking in your metaphorical boots under his intense gaze.Â
Let's recap, shall we?
â
âHi, my nameâs [Name] [Last Name] and I'm from a world where you're a fictional character in a video game. It's nice to finally meet you, Guardian Yaksha Xiao.â
As soon as his name slipped from your lips, your neck was met with the end of his polearm. Though you somewhat expected this kind of reaction, you swore your soul had never left your body so fast.Â
âHow do you know my name?â Xiao really did growl at you this time. His amber eyes pierced into your now soulless body, looking downright murderous.Â
âHow do you know that about me? That I was apart of the Yaksha?â If you didn't know any better, you'd say Xiao was getting frantic. You did know better. But you were also a dumbass.Â
âWould you believe that I'm twenty-two now?â You managed to choke out. The polearm nearly breaking the skin on your neck was your only answer. âOKAY, OKAY, IâM SORRY! Please give me a chance to explain myself! Iâll tell you everything, just please don't turn my head into a shish-kabob!â You pleaded while closing your eyes. Wow, this is the second time today that I've danced with death, you thought humorously.Â
Xiao stared. And stared. Then stared some more. You were starting to sweat from his unresponsiveness. Peeking an eye open, you saw Xiao contemplate whether or not to believe you. You watched his beautiful amber irises flicker across your face, looking for any sign of deceit.Â
When he found none, he pulled his polearm away. Not completely, he was still on high alert, but enough so that you could breathe. You nearly wept real Jesus tears when he did. But that almost changed when he roughly grabbed your upper arm and transported you to his room at the Wangshu Inn.Â
The moment you both rematerialized he let go of your arm. Having been caught off guard from teleporting, you fell to the floor dizzy while trying to keep the vomit that crept up your esophagus down.Â
Xiao stared blankly at you, âWhat? Have never experienced teleporting before?â
Looking up at him from the floor, you take a deep breath before responding to him. âNo, teleportation is nothing but a pipe dream from my world.â You then slowly sat up and gave him a tired, lopsided smile, âIâd be long dead before it's ever invented.â
Xiao once again just stares at you. You were such an odd human. He had never experienced someone with your type of personality.Â
Focusing on the task at hand, Xiao walked over towards a small table and proceeded to sit down on one side of it. He then pointed to the side in front of him and uttered a simple word.Â
âExplain.â
â
And so you did.Â
You explained everything to him. Like how you were currently a medical student, studying to be an ER doctor. You explained to him how he was a part of a video game you played in your downtime when you weren't studying. How you knew his background. That you knew what was going to happen in the future.Â
You explained it all.Â
âSo⌠in your world you're actually twenty-two?â Xiao asked slowly, trying to fully comprehend what you had told him.Â
âYup.âÂ
âAnd your occupation was a healer?âÂ
âWell I was still studying to become one, but essentially yes.â
âAnd I am considered a fictional character from a video game that you played.âÂ
âYup.â
âAnd you know everything that's going to happen in the future?â He pressed.Â
âWell not everything, only up to a certain point. Which leads me to ask thisâŚâ You prop your elbows on the table, interlacing your fingers then resting your chin on them. âHave you seen boy around my âageâ,â you put air quotations around age, â with long, braided blonde hair and dressed in all black?â You asked. âHe would also have a floating companion that talks a little too much.âÂ
Xiao shook his head. âNo, I have not come across anyone that fits your description.â
Looking off to the side, you thought to yourself. Good. So he hasnât been to Liyue yet.
Xiao raised an eyebrow at you. âHow is that good?â
Startled, you whip your head to Xiao. Shit, I guess I said that out loud.Â
You give a hefty sigh. âBecause it gives me a good idea of where I am in the storyline.â You say, looking back to him. âIf he hasnât shown up in Liyue yet that could mean I'm near the beginning of the game. Hell, he might not have even come yet.â You raise a finger to your chin. Then what would be the point of me being here? Would that make me the next traveler then? You looked towards Xiao. Well whatever the reason is, I'm here now. And it's important I found out why. I'll figure out the Aether situation when I get there.Â
Xiao looked at you confused. âWho are you talking about?â
You snapped out of your thoughts. Hesitating to answer Xiao, you wondered if it was a good idea to tell him about our main protagonist and antagonist just yet.Â
You give him a apprehensive smile. âI don't know if I should tell you just yet. I don't unknowingly want to start a butterfly effect. I'm sorry.âÂ
Xiao then sighed and put his head in his hands, seemingly at a loss as to what's going on.Â
I think this is the most emotion I've ever seen from him.Â
You had half the mind to reach over the table and pet his head to try and calm him down. But then again, you quite liked having your arm, so you decided against it.Â
You gently spoke to him, âTrust me, I don't know what the hellâs going on either hun. If I knew more then I would tell you in a heartbeat.â You freeze, catching your little mishap. Xiao slowly lifted his head from his hands, looking at you quizzically. No anger, no vexation. Just pure confusion.
âHun?â You feel your face start to heat up in embarrassment, hearing him say it. It was a bad habit that you had, calling your friends pet names; mainly just friends that you trusted. And you trusted Xiao.Â
âI'm sorry! It's a really bad habit of mine. I usually call all of my friends a term of endearment. Hun is short for honey, but I swear to God I didn't mean to call you that, it just slipped out!â You quickly explained to him, shaking your hands in front of you.
Xiao stared at you. You noticed he did that a lot. He's probably just trying to understand your weird mannerisms. âIt's fine⌠I guess.â He said, finally looking away from you.Â
One⌠Two⌠Three⌠FourâŚ
Ah, the silence is awkward now, say something [Name]!
As soon as you were about to open your mouth, Xiao beat you to it. âSo what's your plan now?â He asked, now looking back at you.Â
You blinked at him for a few seconds, processing what he said. You then looked up to the ceiling, deep in thought. What is my plan now? What am I going to do? I obviously can't stay with Xiao, with him being an adeptus, and leech off of him. Maybe I could go to the Adventuresâ Guild? Earn some commissions, maybe be homeless for a bit? But I don't even know how to use a sword. No, that wouldn't workâ
Cutting your thoughts off, you responded to him with the only answer you could think of.Â
âI don't know, haven't thought that far ahead.â
Xiao should be used to this already. He really should. But he couldn't help but send the odd girl an unconvinced look.
âYou haven't thought of a plan?â He asked with a raised eyebrow.Â
âHey! Need I remind you that you were there from the very beginning? I haven't really had the time nor the mental capacity to think of a plan for the future!â You huffed at him indignantly. This guy. You shake your head, clearing any annoyance you had with him. Getting irritated isn't going to help your situation [Name], relax. Taking a deep breath, you looked at Xiao. He seemed to be in deep thought, so you decided to not bother him.Â
Crossing your arms on the table, you finally felt exhaustion catching up to you since the adrenaline of everything was wearing off. You laid your head in your arms and sighed, trying your best to ward off sleep.Â
Xiao looked over at you. Seeing the state you're in, he decided you weren't fit to travel anymore. He then stood up, having made up his mind.Â
Noticing the abrupt movement from across the table, you see Xiao stand up and walk towards the door.Â
âWh⌠where're you going?â You mumbled to him, too tired to raise your voice. Xiao looked back at you with his hand on the doorknob. âYou're not fit to travel any more today. I'm going to talk to the receptionist about getting you a room here at the Inn.â He then opened the door and left.Â
You stared at the spot he was in for a few seconds. Huh, maybe he isn't such an asshole. You then put your head back into your arms, smiling softly. âThough I knew that already. Thank you Xiao.â That was the last thing you said before finally succumbing to sleep.Â
â
While walking down the flights of steps to talk to Verr Goldet about your accommodations, Xiao felt a shiver going up his spine. A whisper of his name in your voice flew through the breeze and into his ears. He paused in his steps, contemplating whether he should go back or not. You said you knew what happens when you called his name, yet why would you say it right after he left the room? Xiao suddenly felt nervous for reasons he did not know and teleported back to his room, polearm at the ready to strike any threats that appeared before you or him.
When he only saw you slouched over the table asleep, he relaxed. That was strange. I could have sworn I heard her beckon me. Glancing at you once more, he decided to ask you about it later. He then left the room and teleported right in front of the front desk, scaring Verr Goldet and the Innâs cat out of their wits.Â
âArchons, Xiao! A little warning next time would be nice!â Verr Goldet exclaimed, a hand over heart hoping it wouldn't burst out of her chest. Xiao proceeded to ignore her.Â
âI need a vacant room.â Xiao stated.Â
Always straight to the point, thought Verr Goldet. âI'm sorry Xiao, but we don't have any vacant rooms. We're all booked for this years Lantern Rite Festival.â She tells Xiao. The young adeptus deadpanned at Verr Goldet. âDon't look at me like that. Why do you even need another room?â Verr Goldet wondered.Â
Xiao sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. âIt's a complicated situation. Let's just say I have an unwelcome guest with me right now.âÂ
Although curious, Verr Goldet just shrugged knowing he wouldnât outright tell her. âWell either they stay with you or you kick them out. We don't have any rooms for them to stay in unfortunately, so the choice is yours.â
The young adeptus sighed once more.Â
How troublesome.Â
â
Appearing back in his room, Xiao looked at you. You were still hunched over the table, in what looked like an uncomfortable position, yet you were still asleep. Xiao weighed his options. On one hand, if you stayed with him he didn't know if you would leave, which would cause problems for the both of them. On the other hand, he could wake you up and kick you to the streets but deal with gnawing guilt that would eat at him if you were ever harmed because of his decisions.Â
Making up his mind, he walked over to your sleeping form. He then crouched next to you and gently scooped into his arms, doing his best not to wake you. However it seems that you were a deep sleeper and didn't stir in the slightest to being moved. You did, however, snuggle in closer to his chest seeking the warmth it gave off.Â
Xiao froze, waiting for you to stop moving before moving you over to his bed. Settling you on the bed, you immediately started reaching for blankets craving the protection they gave you from the cold. Xiao only shook his head and rolled his eyes at you, handing you the blankets you oh-so-desperately needed. Is she really twenty-two? Because she acts like a child. Xiao watched as you pulled the blankets up to your chin and snuggled into his pillow, [h/l] [h/c] hair draping over it.Â
Not needing sleep, the young adeptus decided to sit next to you and watch over you. Not in a creepy way, but in more of a way of trying to understand you. You might have been the strangest human he's ever met, but you were charming. In your own, unique way.Â
While watching you, Xiao was trying to figure out what to do with you. As far as he knew, you were defenseless, didn't know how to protect yourself, and had a sharp tongue that would most definitely get you into trouble.Â
In other words, Xiao hadn't thought that far ahead.Â
There she is! Chapter One! I hope you guys enjoyed it as much as I did writing it!  As always, feel free to leave any suggestions and constructive criticism and if you wish to be on the taglist, please let me know!

The Four Corpsmen And Their Cheerleader
Lanternsis x Lanternfamily One-Shot
Word Count: 1.3K Warnings: Explicit Language
Author's Note: I am obsessed with the Blue Lanterns you guys. Like they're legit my favorites. And since blue and green rings work best with one another...here's a story of that happening! Enjoy! -Thorne
**********************************************************************
The guys were at their wits end against the troop of Yellow Lanterns; which wasnât a common occurrenceâbeing at their wits end that is, Yellow Lantern attacks were actually fairly common. Kyle winced as another barrage of yellow energy blasts hit the construct heâd formed; the eyes of the other two Lanterns turned to him.
âYou good, Kyle?â Guy asked, pressing his own hand to the construct to pour power into it.
He nodded, though the strain was evident on his face. âYeah, Iâm good.â He shut his eyes and forced another surge of power into the construct, keeping it up and around them. âHave a plan yet, John?â
Their leader shot a quick glance from the side. âHalâs keeping them busy at the moment, but his fly-boy distractions are only going to last for so long.â He looked at them. âWe need toââ
âComing in hot!â They all looked towards their rings at the voice and then Hal darted over the side, grunting when a yellow flash shot him in the side. He sunk down the construct wall. âOkay,â he breathed out in shock. âNew plan because distractionâs gone out the window as of now.â He glanced at Guy. âKick their asses?â
Guy snorted, cracking his fists. âThought youâd never ask, Jordan.â His green eyes fell on John. âAny big speeches before we go in?â
John merely grinned but before he could speak, a scream pierced from behind the construct wall, and everyone shot each other confused glances because no one had moved or formed a new construct besides the wall guarding them. Kyle warned them as he dropped the barrier and they all saw a blue figure darting between the yellow suited Lanterns.
A nova of aqua shot out from the mysterious person as they flew towards them and they rose, the blue cape billowing around them as they cheekily grinned, âI thought we agreed that the four corpsmen needed a cheerleader?â
Hal matched their smirk. â(Y/N)! What are you doing here!â
She merely raised her hand and cool aura surrounded them as their rings recharged, powers surging to the highest levels without overpowering them. âWell, it seems Iâm bailing my big brother and his best friends out of trouble.â (Y/N) turned and raised her hands, surrounding her own body with an aura. âLeave now or face the four corpsmen and a Blue Lantern!â
The fear-wielders practically hissed at her, and she tipped her chin up. âCorpsmen! To me!â
âWeâve so gotta talk about you thinking youâre bigger than us,â Kyle griped, even as he flew to her right just as sheâd ordered; she snorted as Hal took her left, Guy and John on either side of the other two men.
âPlease, I donât think, Kyle.â She winked at him. âI hope.â Reaching down, she took Kyle and Halâs hands. âMind if I borrow some power?â
They merely smiled in return, and she shut her eyes, drawing deep from the well of hope inside her. She let the power flow evenly between the men holding her hands who in turn took Guy and Johnâs hands, letting the power even between the five of them.
âIn fearful day, in raging night, with strong hearts full, our souls igniteâŚâ The Green Lanterns beside her joined in on the oath, all speaking in unison, mighty and powerful. âWhen all seems lost in the War of Light, look to the starsââ (Y/N) opened her eyes and they glowed a beautiful blue. âFor hope burns bright!â
The cosmos seemed to still as the power exploded from their bodies, and they watched as strong green and blue arcs echoed outwards. The Yellow Lanterns across the expanse of space screamed as the waves hit them and soon, they were turning around and fleeing.
Satisfied that their enemy had been defeated, she let go of their hands and rose a few feet up and away from them, a mile-long grin on her face. âNow that thatâs over withâŚhow about we go back to Coast City and hit a bar?â
Each of them smiled and nodded at the idea, when suddenly Kyle pointed. â(Y/N) look out!â
She barely had time to spin around when the space around her warped and a Yellow Lantern came into sight. A gasp escaped her as they thrust out the construct blade in their hand into her gut and she bent forward. The men around her shouted and instantly the enemy was being yanked off her, probably being pummeled into a pulp, but all she was concerned about was the fizzling blade that disappeared from her gut.
Someone put their hand against her stomach, and she collapsed into their arms, realizing it was Kyle. âHey, Iâve got you,â he worried, pressing tight to her abdomen. âYouâre going to be okay, (Y/N).â
âDonât get blood on your suit,â she joked, and he frowned at her, concentrating hard to heal the wound.
âDonât make me laugh right now. This is serious.â He gazed into her eyes, whispering, âI canât lose you.â
(Y/N) took his hand and forced him to look into her eyes. âKyle Rayner, you neednât be afraid when Iâm here. Even if Iâm wounded.â She smiled and leaned forward, pressing her forehead to his. âFear is merely the belief of imminent demise.â She shut her eyes and exhaled, the pulsing blue aura coming again as they held each other. âHope, however, is the belief of imminent success. And I will always believe that.â
The aura was blinding and even the other men had to shield their eyes as it grew brighter and brighter, lasting for what seemed like forever, then it faded and (Y/N) stood before them, healed, as if sheâd never experienced the woundâthough her suit was new.
A deep blue, off the shoulder, long-sleeved dress/leotard that parted down the middle of her chest and back, turning sheer as it flowed down at her hips. Her gloves had morphed too, now a silver ring around her middle as the white sleeve stretched up her arm; her boots differed too, no longer closed around her feet. Instead, a silver ring was around her second toe, sapphires on the silver chain that wrapped around her ankle and calves. Her head was adorned with a silver and sapphire diadem, and around her neck was a silver band, and in the center was the symbol for the Blue Lanterns, growing bright as the day she received her ring.
(Y/N) opened her eyes and smiled, holding out her hand to Kyle. âBeloved.â
He matched her smile and pulled her into a hug, lifting her in the airâwell, the space around themâand breathed, â(Y/N), you look like a goddess.â
âIâm your goddess,â she murmured, placing her hands on his shoulders.
They seemed to be lost in their own little world of love and devotion, and Guy blinked, looking over at John. âItâs so sweet, I almost donât want to warn them that Hal here is about to blow his afterburner.â John cracked a toothy grin as Hal exploded in anger.
âCAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT THE FUCK IâM LOOKING AT! BECAUSE IF ITâS ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS AND MY PRECIOUS BABY SISTER IâM LEGITIMATELY GOING TO COMMIT MURDER! QUIT FUCKING LAUGHING GUY! ITâS NOT FUCKING FUNNY, YOU DICK! WAIT! DID YOU FUCKING KNOW ABOUT THIS!â
John rested his hand on Halâs shoulder. âHalâŚeveryone knows about Kyle and (Y/N).â
âWHAT?!â
âYeah, why do you think the two of them always âpatrolâ together?â Guy asked.
âWELL, I DONâT KNOW! MAYBE BECAUSE OUR RINGS WORK BEST IN THE PRESENCE OF A BLUE RING, GUY! AND MAYBE I JUST ASSUMED THEY WERE SUPPORTING AND ENCOURAGING EACH OTHER!â
Guy snorted. âYeah, âencouragingâ. More like fuckââ
âSHUT THE FUCK UP! KYLE YOUâRE DEAD!â

Oblivious
Request from anon: Hi, I really enjoy your writing, particularly your Zemo fics! I had an idea for one that basically follows the while y/n joining Sam, Bucky, and Zemo through Madirpoor and Riga. Only despite Zemoâs flirting, y/n doesnât really do anything about it or even notice until y/n along with Sam and Bucky witness Walker (New Captian America) murder a flag smasher in the street. They all go back to the safe house and y/n is like, in shock. âCaptian America just killed someoneâ is all y/n can really say. And Zemo is able to calm them down. Maybe the romance can start then?
Word count: 3.4k
Authorâs note: This one-shot can be multiple parts, if you would like to see a sequel please say! If I do decide to write a sequel though it will take me a while as Iâve had a lot of requests, please check out my master list to see what I have coming up next and if requests are currently open or not

Heels clicked along the pavement as you sashayed along the road, approaching the men before you, two of which you know fondly. The other one, however... not so much.
They all stood close together in a circle, obviously discussing something important but at hearing your voice call out their heads turn towards you, a smile appearing on Sam and Buckyâs faces as they see you. âLong time no see boys,â you say, stopping a few feet away from them to lean on a wall.
They both walk over to you, Bucky pulling you into and hug then followed by Sam hugging you tightly. âThank you for agreeing to help us out y/n. I know things havenât been easy for you,â
You fake a smile at Bucky, one you hoped he wouldnât see past resting your arm around his shoulder. âAnything for my friends,â
He was right, though. These times havenât been easy for you, especially after Steve Rodgers left. Captain America had always been your idol, ever since you were a little kid you aspired to be just like him. You collected all the Captain America merchandise along with your brother Phil, always arguing with him who owned which toy of his. Meeting Steve had been a dream come true for you. He was the person you were closest to. He helped you come to terms with your brotherâs death and whenever you needed help; he was there. You two stuck together through the thick and thin. Thatâs was how you got to become good friends with Sam and Bucky. You and Steve have always had a complicated relationship, though. You two liked each other and tried to see if you could be something more, but it never seemed to work out. Then Thanos happened. You, along with half the universe, were dusted. For you it was as if you had simply blinked however for Steve it was five years without you. You barely got to see each other again before he went away for good. You couldnât hate him for it, you understood why he did what he did. He was always telling you about the â40s, about his childhood, about her. You just wished you werenât so connected with him. Seeing him there, old, dying. It broke your heart. But times move on. You canât live in the past as he did.
Your eyes focus on the man behind Sam and Bucky and you frown, pulling your arm away from Bucky. A man you never thought you would see again was staring right back at you.
He stood a few feet back, knowing he wasnât welcomed in the warm reunion of friendship. He clasped his hands, unsure what exactly he should do right now, feeling awkward, but as he looked over at you his eyes twinkled with recognition. Now you had been interesting to him. You werenât a super soldier like Steve and James. Yet you certainly could hold your own against them. He had seen when he had first activated James. No, your strength and fighting abilities were down to your own human powers and he admired that. You were one of the few avengers he might have had an inkling to like if the Sokovia attack never happened. Still, it wasnât as if you were to blame for it. The people who were to blame had suffered for it. You were merely the pawn in the giant game of chess. Perhaps he could grow to like you, after all, he could admit you were certainly tempting to him, the way your body was shaped excited him, the way your neck was shaped made him want to brush his fingers along it and your piercing eyes felt like they could look into the darkest corners of his soul.
âWhy is he out of prison?â you snap, bringing Zemo out of his trance
Sam turns to scowl at Bucky as you all turn to Zemo, who awkwardly smiles. âBucky thinks we need him,â Sam mutters
âWhy would we need him!â you exclaim, crossing your arms and shooting Bucky a glare.
âI am invaluable,â Zemo explains with his hands, his eyes unwavering from you as he answers for Bucky.
âHe hates super-soldiers, therefore he will help us in getting to Karli,â Bucky says, stepping in front of your eyesight trying to explain himself.
âThat also means he hates you, Buck,â
All of them freeze as you address the elephant in the room. Bucky grits his teeth and steps back, averting your gaze as you and Sam stare expectedly at him but he doesnât respond so Zemo takes his opportunity to step closer to you, now only a few feet apart.
âI can assure you, getting rid of Karli and her super soldier friends is my priority. Not James,â
You clench your jaw in anger as you look at Zemo. He tilts his head, the side of his lip curling up slightly, hoping youâd take a chance on him. Sighing, you turn to shoot one more look at Bucky.
âSteve wouldnât have liked this,â
Later you sat across from Zemo on his private jet. All of you sat in uncomfortable silence as you flew to Madripoor. Sam and Bucky did not seem as close as you were to both of them. They both just sat on their respective sides and looked out the window. Zemo had a book on him which he seemed very preoccupied reading, yet there were moments where you could feel his eyes settle upon you. Ignoring his inquisitive gaze, you choose to follow in Bucky and Samâs lead of looking out the window and daydream the rest of the trip away.
Your mind trails back to Steve. You wondered just what Steve would have thought about you teaming up with Zemo. He would have understood, wouldnât he? It was the best option you had. Ah, but he had always been such a stickler about the rules. Breaking a criminal out and helping him avoid the law wasnât very patriotic of you. Yep, he would not have gone through with this plan, he would have found another way that worked. But none of the people here were him. He choose not to be here. You knew you had to let him go.
âChampagne?â
You pull your eyes away from the window, coming back to reality as you see a bottle of champagne in Zemoâs hand and an empty glass in his other hand. He already had another glass full beside him as he looked at you expectantly.
âNo,â
âSure?â
âWhat part of no do you not understand,â you snap harshly glaring at him then back out to the window
âMy apologies,â he says, pursing his lips together as he looks down at the empty glass. He glances over to Sam and Bucky but they both shake their heads as well so he hands the glass and drinks back to his butler and sighs as he opens his book again.
The tension between all of you sticks around as you arrive at Madripoor. Zemo had provided you a tight-fitting dress to âappear the partâ of your allice, and it showed off a bit too much of your chest than you liked. It was too bright for you, golden and sparky, cutting off at your upper tight, and had a very low v cut. You try your best to pull it down to cover you some more but to no avail. Begrudgingly, you leave the plane to meet up with the rest of them.
âMy my y/n, the dress suits you,â Zemo says, smirking as his eyes trail up and down your body as you walk past him taking a straight beeline towards Sam and Bucky.
âHow long will this mission take?â you ask, already feeling the cold air nip at your skin.
âFew hours at the least. Iâm sorry that you have to do this, y/nâ
âHey, I knew what I was getting into when I agreed to help you two,â you mutter as you hear a car pulling up behind you
âNot exactly this though,â Bucky grumbles, glowering over at Zemo who motions to the car that had arrived. Zemo opens the door and waits for you to get in however you walk to the other side of the car and get in. Bucky chuckles at Zemoâs annoyed expression as he instead gets into the side, which Zemo held open.
During the mission, Zemo kept getting uncomfortably close to you. Occasionally his hand brushed against your back as he moved past you, or his hand would bump into yours slightly, lingering against yours longer than normal.
You knew why he was doing this. Because of Steve. He knew how close you and Steve were, everyone did. During the fight between Steve and Tony which Zemo had helped cause you stuck by Steve every second. Now that Steve was gone, Zemo was trying to rub that in. Trying to irritate you on purpose. You would not let him get to you.
During the meeting with Selby you stood off to the side with Sam and you were feeling pretty good about yourself that the mission was going well until Samâs phone rang. You tried to keep cool while also giving Sam the wtf look as to why he didnât put his phone on silent. You hung out hoping things would go okay, but today wasnât your day.
Shelby got gunned down in front of you, and the mission was ruined. Running in heels wasnât ideal, but you had to make do. You followed Sam and Bucky as Zemo split up from you, running off somewhere else. Eventually, you kicked off your heels, believing running barefoot would be better than dealing with the agony of heels.
Finally, meeting back up with Zemo, you were ready to have to fight your way out of this mess, but then someone you didnât think you would ever see again appeared. Sharon Carter. You two werenât exactly buddy buddies. You got along for Steveâs sake, but it always felt like a sort of rivalry between you two for his attention.
âY/n,â she says, finally addressing you
âSharon,â you say back, feeling the awkwardness seep back in. Sharon didnât seem bothered however, she even kindly let you have some new clothes and shoes which were much more comfortable than the ones Zemo lent you and more your style.
Walking back into the main room you see Zemo sitting down, once again drinking, Bucky sitting down as far away from Zemo as he could get and Sam standing at the side. You choose to stand by Sam.
âHey, y/n, you doing okay?â Sam asks as you walk over.
âBetter than other days. What are we waiting around for?â
âFor Sharon to lead us to a party where she can get the information we need,â Zemo answers for Sam, peeking over at you. You ignore him.
Sharon comes back in and tells all of you not to get in trouble while you are out at the party.
âTrouble,â Zemo jokes, and he once again glances over to you, raising a glass and winking at you as he downs it.
Following Sharon, you head into the party. It was to show off the art pieces she had got a hold of so you thought you might as well look at them as you were unlikely to see any of these genuine pieces again. You could see however Zemo following you. He tried to be sly by checking out the other artworks near you, never exactly where you were, but you could tell because every time you moved to a new place soon enough Zemo would suddenly appear there as well. He leaned into one of the artworks, pretending to study it closely, but the corner of his eyes would flick over to you.
Groaning in frustration at your new stalker, you decide you had to lose him in the crowds. Swaying your body, you enter the dancing crowd and jump along to the music, letting yourself go. You could feel your excitement growing with the crowd as you danced, but with one quick turn around there, you saw him.
Zemo had now entered the crowd and was dancing along to the music as well, pumping his hands in time to it. As you stared at him in disbelief, he notices and takes that as an innovation to dance over to you.
âDancing is fun, right?â he asks as he claps his hand to the music
âWhy are you doing this!â you exclaim glaring at him.
His eyebrows furrow as he looks at you, âI donât understand what you mean?â
You huff in annoyance and storm away, going to find Sam and Bucky leaving Zemo alone on the dance floor. He watches you go and sighs, moving away from the dance floor. It had been a long time since he last got to socialize with anyone and he was trying with you; he wanted to know you more, but he didnât want to push you too far either if you were uncomfortable with it.
The next few hours felt like a blur to everyone. Sharon found out where the doctor was and you found out a bit of information before Zemo choose to shoot him. Then the whole place exploded, and you had to fight for your life while Zemo hijacked and car to pick you up. Now you were standing outside the safe house.
Zemo opened up the doors, and with his arm motioned for you to go in first. You roll your eyes at his extravagance and storm in, looking around the place. It was simple, but you could still tell that it was all designer, expensive to Zemoâs tastes. You sit down on the sofa while Zemo instantly gravitates towards the liquor cupboard.
âIf you drink so much you wonât have long left to liveâ you mutter as you watch him pour some whiskey. His head shoots up as he turns sidewards to look at you, raising an eyebrow.
âConcerned about my health now?â
âIâd rather have you not pass out during a mission, at least till you are no longer of use to us then you can drink yourself to death for all I care,â
âAh concern for the mission, yes you avengers folks are all the same. The mission takes precedence before anything else,â Zemo says, grabbing his glass and walking over to take a seat on the sofa opposite you.
You give him a cold hard stare crossing your arms. âWhat do you mean by thatâ you hiss
He tilts his head, smirking as he sees how riled up you were getting. âIâm simply observing that you have to put your mission before human lives. I know from how much I studied Steve-â
âDonât bring Steve into this!â you exclaim, leaning forward, baring your teeth at him.
Zemo pauses for a moment shocked, he pulls his head back to observe, his mouth slightly ajar as his eyebrows cast down but realization dawns across his face.
âAh, you and Steve, you two were an item,â
âIt wasnât like thatâ you murmur, jumping up from the sofa and pacing around the room to try to alleviate the agitation you felt, your nails digging into your arms as you wrapped them around your body in comfort.
âBut there was something,â Zemo replies, watching you pace around the room then looking into the glass bitterly, his grip on it tightening.
You turn your back to Zemo to stare at your reflection in the mirror, seeing the tears swell up in your eyes.
âWhy are you bringing this up? Why do you keep trying to annoy me Zemo, what purpose are you getting from this apart from some sick sadistic pleasure?â
It was Zemoâs turn to jump up from the sofa, hurt you could ever think so lowly of him, his eyebrows furrowed as he speeds over to you. He stands beside you, getting a lot closer to you than you would like. You turned your head away so he couldnât see the tears threatening to fall.
âDo you think that bad of me? Y/n we may not have had the best first impression but know that it is never my intention to irritate or upset you,â Zemo says, trying to move even closer to you, but he moves a step too far and you back away.
âJust leave me alone, Zemoâ you whisper, then run out of the room to find a bathroom to let everything out.
Zemo watches your form leave, angrily clenching his jaw, knowing he pushed it too far. The vein in his neck twitches as he grabs an ornament by the side of the mirror. Holding it in his hand, he observes the glass figure, a dove, then chucks it into the ground in rage, feeling an inkling of satisfaction at seeing it smash into a thousand pieces. He grabs more ornaments, at that moment not caring how much they each cost, just enjoy the release of anger he felt every time he smashed one.

You could hear the blood in your brain roar through your ears, the feeling of your heart hitting your chest in shock as you stared down at Lemarâs dead body.
Your eyes flicker to Johnâs who knelt beside him, trying desperately to wake him up, but you knew it was hopeless. Lemar was gone. Your eyes flickered around the rest of the room, Karli and her friend realising how bad they have messed up were already running away from the room. Bucky and Sam looked at each other as if knowing what was to happen. Your eyes finally land on Zemoâs. John had tried to arrest him, but you were able to stop him. Zemo was still useful though you hated to admit it, it wasnât long however till the Dora Milaje would find him.
You feel a hand brush against your shoulder and snap back into reality, âWe need to leave, now,â Zemo whispered in your ear, pulling your arm to make you move.
Gathering your senses, you let Zemo lead you out of the building as you hear a crash from above. Running out into the road, you and Zemo catch up beside Sam and Bucky and watch the disaster unfold.
There was John, in Capâs uniform, holding Capâs shield above that man.
Steve.
Steveâs shield.
You feel a scream tear from your lips as you watch John Walker bring the shield down, penetrating the manâs chest, staining it in blood. Tears leak from your eyes as you attempt to rush forward, to try and stop it, but arms grasp onto you, pulling you back.
âNOâ you repeatedly cried, trying to worm your way out of the grasp, but they gripped you, refusing to let go. Your knees gave out and you sink to the floor, collapsing in the arms of the person who held you, your head buried in the fur part of their coat as they held you to their chest.
You kept sobbing, shaking as the image replayed over and over in your mind.
âCaptain America just killed someone,â you whispered, unable to say anything else. The arms which held you picked you up, quietly shushing you, and carried you down a road, back into the safe house.
They tried to put you on the sofa but you clung to their body, not believing you could survive without their support, so they settle on lying down beside you on the sofa.
They turned you to face their body as their arms draped around you, gently rubbing circles into your back. Burying your head into their chest again, you let the sobs wail out as your chest ached from breathing.
âCaptain America just killed someone,â you whisper again to him.
âThat wasnât Steve, y/n, Steve would never do something like that,â he murmured, his accent soothing your nerves.
âBut it was his shield Zemo. The very thing I had idolized for so long,â
âA shield which by now no longer belongs to him. He was never Captain America y/n, what we just saw proved that. They will give the shield to someone better,â
You sniff, trying to prevent the snot from coming out of your nose as your bloodshot eyes look up into his, âReally?â
He gently smiles at you, taking his hand off your back to push a strand of hair that was hanging over your eye away.
âYes, they wonât make the same mistake twice,â
Zemoâs words brought more comfort than you could have ever imagined. His embrace brought you warmth and you could feel yourself slowly stop shaking as he held you. Looking away from Zemo in embarrassment, you instead choose to snuggle your head back into his chest, hearing the rapid beating of his heart which lulled you to sleep.

Have you lost your mind?
summary: Azriel gets lectured by Rhysand and Cassian about his constant flirting with Elain, not knowing that she was hiding in the closet.
authors note: hello! This is my second one-shot (I might make this into a small series) This was inspired by a certain scene in The Office ;) and Iâd like to thank @shedoessoshedoes for listening to my random ideas and giving me feedback and making this so much better!
Warning: English isnât my first language.
Azriel didnât like change.Â
He really didnât. But something had changed about his mornings. He used to love to wake up to the smell of black coffee, but that had changed since he met her. His new favourite thing was waking up to find Elain tucked in between his shoulder and his chest, sound asleep.Â
He would never get bored of watching her sleep, he looked down at a sleeping Elain. He didnât want to move and accidentally wake her up, even though he missed her big brown eyes looking up at him.Â
âWhat are you doing?â She asked, pulling Azriel out of his trance. She pushed herself up, sitting up against the headboard. She pushed her long honey-brown locks away from her face and threw it in a ponytail.
âEnjoying the scenery,â He simply responded before he sat up, leaning against the headboard.
Elain dipped her head, she was blushing a thousand shades of red. He hooked his index finger below her chin and gently tilted her head up, to look at him. He smiled, a loopy one nonetheless, and began to smother her face with light and tender kisses. âAz!â She squealed, squirming as he pulled Elain under him.Â
âI gotta show some love somehow, donât I?â He murmured as he began to press kisses along her jaw and down her neck.
She giggled, a bright smile on her face. She found herself growing excited as his grip on her hips began to tighten as she began to tug off the shirt she was wearing which she had snagged from his closet. Before they went any further, a loud bang broke the silence that had occupied the house. He recognized the footsteps that marched up the stairs, it was Cass and Rhys, who had gotten married to Elainâs sisters recently and were Azrielâs college mates in Velaris University.
The fuck? What are they doing here?
Azriel kissed Elainâs cheek before he pulled his shirt over her shoulders and rolled off of her, hopping out of the bed with Elain close behind him. She realized it was her brothers in law when she saw Azrielâs eyes widen, she quickly pushed herself into his closet, hiding in between his hoodies before her brothers-in-law walked into Azrielâs room.Â
Two weeks ago, after Nesta and Cassianâs rehearsal dinner, Azriel confessed his feelings to Elain. God, it terrified him when he admitted his feelings to his best friend. He didnât want to ruin what they had. They met in University, before Elain opened her flower shop, and had became very close friends.Â
What if she didnât reciprocate his feelings? He worried, every rational fear flew through the window the minute Elain went on her tippy toes and kissed him.
Ever since that night, they have been together, in secret. Suspicions began to arise when Azriel and Elain to quietly flirt between themselves and began to sit next to each other every time the family went out. Small touches here and there, a hand on the small of her back, an arm around her shoulder.Â
One time when everyone went out for dinner, he slipped his hand under the table trying to tease her, but his hand landed on Amrenâs thigh.Â
He didnât know if he was going to make it alive tonight when Amrenâs piercing gaze fell on Azrielâs face. One brow raised at him and he quickly retracted his hand in fear in fear while a small laugh erupted from across the table from Elain. They were a bit tipsy, but the mother, Azriel could've gotten drunk on the sound of Elainâs laugh.
He didnât forget what she had done. He raised his brows, in challenge and nodded. Oh she was to pay for this, he would make sure of it.Â
Nesta Archeron was always the mama bear while Elain was the cub but it was Feyre who noticed the occasional hand around her waist, the sly smiles and winks that were thrown across the table. She talked to her husband, Rhysand, and told him of her suspicions, which led them to this moment.
Azriel shut the closet door, making sure Elain wasnât visible and then quickly sat back on his bed before Rhysand and Cassian welcomed themselves into his room. âShe is like my little sister!â Rhysand exclaimed as he glared at Azriel. âI donât want to see you sniffing around her anymore. Boy, have you lost your mind? Cause Iâll help you find it.âÂ
Azriel's gaze shifted to the closet, where the said sister, Elain, was hiding.Â
âWhat are you looking at? Iâm not going to hold Nesta back when you cuts you to pieces, The Mother could come through that door and sheâs not going to help you if you keep flirting with Elain!â Cassian exclaimed.Â
âCan I know what I did to earn a lovely lecture at-â He looked at the alarm that sat on his bedside table. âAt nine in the morning?âÂ
âFeyre talked to me and said that she thinks that something is going on between you and El.â Rhysand explained, his violet eyes glaring at him as his arms crossed across his chest.
âAnd if something was going on between us?â
âThen good luck, because Nesta will kill you in your sleep.â Cassian shrugged. âNes and Feyre love Elain, and they will happily kill you if you dare break her heart. And Mother! I would help them do it!â
âGod, I would never break her heart. I love her.â Azriel declared.
The two men stood in shock and a small gasp was heard from the closet. Rhysandâs brows flew to his hairline when he heard the gasp, he made his way across the room and opened the closet door to find Elain standing there.
Only in his shirt.Â
âThe fuck?â Cassian exclaimed as he took in Elain.
Azriel clenched his jaw, not because their secret was now out, more like he didnât like the way their relationship was exposed.Â
âYou love me?â Elain whispered as she climbed out of his closet and towards him.Â
Azriel just nodded, he loved her. And Mother did he hope she loved him back. âI love you Elain, you have bewitched me body and soul, I love you.â He let out a shaky breath.
âDid he just quote pride and prejudice?â Rhysand whispered to Cassian, who nodded.Â
Elain ran to Azriel, who pressed a kiss on his lips. âI love you too,â She smiled as a happy tear escaped her. âI love you, and Iâm never gonna stop.â She mumbled.
Azriel wrapped his arms around her waist and pressed a kiss. It wasnât a tender kiss, it was the type of kiss where she felt devoured.Â
âThatâs our cue to leave.â Cassian mumbled as he grabbed Rhysandâs wrist and dragged him out.
She let out a big laugh when they left. Azriel flashed Elain with a smile only she would have the privilege to see. Her heart melted as she looked at him and his big grin that rarely graced his face.Â
âI love you, Az.â She hugged him.Â
âSay it again.âÂ
âI love you, Azriel Knight.â
ââââââââââââââââââââââââââ

When the world falls apart, the only thing we can hold onto is ourselves (Part III)
Series Master list
pairing: canon Eren Jaeger x reader
content: Angst, unstable relationship, breakup, smut/nswf+18, major character death, violence, blood (obviously), war (pretty obvious)
Summary: War and hate. Itâs what defined the world at this exact moment. You failed your comrades, and by failing them, you failed yourself. Your relationship is hanging by a thread and your enemies will not only be found on the other side of the sea, but also in the mind of the person you love the most. How will you take the reins in the face of so much destruction?
Chapter summary: It will take more than a betrayal and blood blath for the reader to stop protecting those who really need it.
Words count: 4.7k
I knew things were going to go from bad to worse when we returned to Paradis; but I never imagined that I would have a letter from the Supreme Commander on my desk. Days had passed since my fiasco conversation with Eren, spreading the word of my insubordination towards the lack of notification to the respective authorities. Sure, the guards had let me into the cell just because they knew me, but I never had the decency to tell Hange-san or even ask for a meeting with the Supreme Commander.
And here I was. Wrapped up in a much bigger shit roll since I decided to enlist in the Survey Corps, with a simple letter demanding my presence in his office for a little "talk."
The medical center where I could do my practices with ease was quite far from the justiceâs court where the Supreme Commander was, having to go out to ride through the beautifully paved streets. A street I crossed, a street I saw citizens read the newspapers that had brought so much catastrophe to peace within the walls. People were revolting against the militancy, demanding Eren's immediate release, praising he was the only one who could lead Eldia to its ultimate glory.
If they could heard themself right now. They spoke as if Paradis itself had become an empire, a power on the verge of attacking and taking every country under its feet. It was as if they wanted to turn the game around, to be us the empire and our enemies the war slaves.
I was still far from my destination, but the crowd could be seen cowering above the barred court doors. Men and women with posters screaming without sense or unity, an angry mob demanding explanations, ready to use violence to make their way into the hierarchy.
I got off my horse when I faced the crowd, needing to get up front and through the secured gate and with my loyal traveling companion I wasn't going to make it. I left him tied up outside a local, asking the owner to take care of him, if necessary, I would give him a monetary compensation on my returned.
I tried to get through the mob, asking permission, even nudging some people, but no matter how hard I tried to take a step forward, there was always a bastard blocking my way or pulling me back; They even had the decency to grab my coat and throw me off.
"Excuse me, but I need to pass"
Empty words at this situation. If they didnât listen to the specialized people of the militancy, it was obvious that they wouldnât listen to me, a simple doctor in practice for the legion.
"Free the leader of the Eldian empire"
"Free Eren Jaeger"
"Give us some damn answer"
"Fuck off you cheap bitch"
The day wasnât even beginning and I was already receiving hateful comments, typical of closed minds.
I looked around for a solution, I was wasting valuable time and starting to get irritated. If I was late for my meeting with the Supreme Commander, who knows what punishment he would give me apart from my insubordination.
Besides of the mob there wasnât much more than a few elegant houses and shops, no other entrance except the one in the backyard, but to get there, I would have to go all the way around the building and it would take much longer. The walls were too high to jump alone and too smooth to climb, otherwise enough people would have sneaked in by now.
I turned my head towards my horse, which was still in the same position where I left him, patiently awaiting my return. Surely what I was about to do wasnât going to please him one bit.
I ran as fast as I could and unhooked him from the wooden post, ignoring the comments of the owner of the premises who was indisputably claiming for his pay. Without turning my head to such scum, I motioned for the horse to turn around and run down the avenue, against the crowd. Being at a considered distance, I again instructed him to turn around and go as fast as he could.
"I'm sorry Phillip, you're going to have to forgive me for what I'm going to do"
We were a few meters from the mob, mentally preparing myself for the feat that was about to be accomplished. Almost arriving, about to impact, I gave him a little jerk to the right, guiding us towards the wall, and raised my legs towards his back, squatting against him, waiting for the right moment and the impulse he would give when braking hard.
When he was about to slam his trunk against the wall, Phillip stopped his galloping, propelling me forward and flying toward one of the door columns. I grabbed the stone as best I could, avoiding falling on my backside, and raised my legs towards the top, finally reaching my goal. Being already on top and looking at the terrified faces of the rebels, I went down to the other side of the door, slightly hurting my feet and hands in the fall.
"That was quite a show"
Hitch was already in front of me, malicious and proud on her face. She was giving a few applause to the air, trying to lift the spirits of the people of the military squad, even if her acting was a bit cocky.
"Desperate situations call for desperate measures." I waved my hands over the coat, looking at her with the same smug visage she was giving me.
I didn't like Hitch per se, but we weren't friends either. The way she acted and talked gave me bad vibes and I planned to stay as neutral as possible in her presence. Even her gazes seemed to want to pierce the soul of whoever she was speaking to, as if she wanted to undress you internally and seek your darkest and most shameful secrets. I would stick my hands in the fire by assuming that in her younger years she had been a bully or a blackmailer.
But it was better to keep those thoughts for yourself, before generating greater repercussions in the times that hugged us.
"Did you come to see Armin and Mikasa?"
Any thoughts I had of her dissipated.
"They ... are they here?"
I was fuzzy. Not because of the fact that I was uninformed about their actions when they left the legion barracks in the morning, which I was getting used to since last year, but because they were in the same place as me. What a coincidence.
To be honest, the two of them never owed me anything and it wasn't their duty to tell me where they were going every minute of the day, just like Hange. Each one of us had their own will to go where we were sung; But if the three of us were in court, and if they gave me the chance to guess, I would say that to see the Supreme Commander, it made me a bit suspicious.
"Yes, they are talking to the Supreme Commander to try to go talk to Eren"
I must have hit my head at some point in the battle of Marley, because lately every occurrence was quite impossible to believe. They were the ones who asked me to go talk to him a few days ago, they were the ones who questioned me when I returned to the waiting room where the few survivors of 104° Squad were;it was them who gave me a compassionate look as they saw I hadnât accomplished much and I had ended any relationship that bound me with Eren.
And now here they were, demanding an audience with their childhood friend, while I would have to be judged for the same action. Something wasnât fitting. I looked around trying to find them, or maybe to find an answer to the thousands of questions that were forming in my head, and finding no help, I turned to Hitch.
"What is going on? Why-"
Before I could finish my question, an explosion rumbled across the cobblestone floor, hurting our ears and knocking us to the ground. Fire and debris couldnât only be seen in the air but also smelled, flooding our nostrils, causing us to cough and cover our eyes with debris.
I looked up to find a flare coming from one of the court offices and a heavy body falling in our direction. I couldn't make it out until it fell to the ground, leaving a stain of blood and ash around it, apart from leaving a trail of smoke from where it flew off. My eyes were opened with shock and amazement, since the person in front of me was nothing more and nothing less than the same militant leader, half of the body lost and burned by the explosion.
"Well ... that's new"
In all my years of service I have seen every horror inside and outside the walls. True, even the Survey Corps had acted against the law, but it was for the greater good, to expose the bastards who lived on the wall farthest from the sea. I had seen people hit and kick another for a piece of food when the wall Maria fell. I had seen how we were massacred one by one with bullets to the head as we tried to go beyond the walls.
But never in those years I had seen a rebellion like the one taking place, being willing to eliminate such an authoritarian figure as Darius Zackly.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The chaos went unnoticed by a large part of the population, only those who were present at the time of the explosion and the military police were aware. Faced with such an atrocious event of treason, a small meeting was convened involving the most important heads of each faction; unfortunately I couldnât be there, my presence had been required in a clinic a few meters from the court. There were quite a few injured.
Some had mild and harmless burns, others had large parts of the body with third degree burns. Some had splinters stuck in their arms and faces, some had a piece of wood stuck in their stomach.
A couple of hours had passed which seemed like weeks to me. I had been assigned the milder cases, but as I pulled the splinters out of a patient's eyes, I had the countless howls of people echoing in my head, listening as they took their last painful breaths. People who asked to die on purpose to ease the pain.
Hours passed and welcomed the next day. I had terrible black circles under my tired eyes, hands stained with dried blood and splintered; theyâre fucked up and I needed to heal them as quickly as possible before they got infected. I grabbed the cutting tools and placed them on a metal tray, the cold of the surface soothing the pain in my hands, and although it wasnât too heavy I felt like it trembled on my grip.
I heard the door open wide at the other side of my last patient's room, the front door, letting in multiple heavy footsteps on the hardwood floor. Apparently, the soldier who had entered was in a hurry or was about to deliver terrible news...I wish I had been wrong in the second option.
"Bad news, Eren Jaeger has escaped from the underground cell"
I dropped the metal tray on my feet, making the sound of metal and utensils rumble across the room. My hands were shaking even more and surely if I saw myself in a mirror I would see my face completely pale.
"If you want to free yourself from this cell, go ahead"
My words invaded my mind like a bucket of cold water, as if they wanted to make me see that I was to blame for his escape. I knew that sooner or later heâs going to free himself, his eyes showed it and by not getting an answer that contrasted with mine, it was perfect evidence of his plans. But even knowing it, even Hange knowing it, I didn't expect him to do it in a moment of such betrayal.
I cleaned my hands as best I could with a towel hanging over the room sink and grabbed my coat, rushing out of the clinic.
"Iâm sorry, I need to go"
But where to go was the question. I had no idea where Eren might be, and even if I knew what he was going to win, surely he was with his followers and with the simple image of me approaching from the horizon, I would be dead in a matter of seconds ... or imprisoned, whatever happen first.
At the exit of the clinic, there were two soldiers of the military police standing guard and watching the justiceâs court from the distance. I approached them with the intention of asking them about the whereabouts of the Survey Corps, but they looked at me like I had the plague and pushed me aside hostilely, almost knocking me to the ground. I kept my composure as best I could and looked for someone else to ask; I didnât have to wait long, since a woman of my age with mahogany hair, extremely black and matted, pointed the way where my comareds had gone. According to her words, theyâre heading towards a large and luxurious building in the middle of one of the main avenues, recognizing the word restaurant from the conversation between the riders.
The only place that matched that description was the restaurant where Nicolo worked.
I hurried out with Phillip galloping through people, avoiding stepping on them and apologizing on my back. If there was something clear to me in all this mess, it was that Hange would go to find answers among the working Marleyans of that place. Maybe something could be solved.
I was very wrong.
I rushed into the building, finding only a long entrance hall and a corridor that led to god knows where. No one was even around to see me panic and I didn't see a soul nearby either, the only thing if I could hear a heated discussion far away and heavy footsteps on the floor. I let myself be guided by the sound, running back to its origins and finding a bizarre and meaningless scene in front of my eyes.
The room that seemed to be the main one hosted the orphaned children of the Blouse farm as well as Sasha's parents, sad and anguished parents if I paid better attention. The children were just as sad, with tears in their eyes, especially Kaya; they were crying the same way as on the day Sasha's death was reported. They were cornered under a window all together, hugging each other and letting the rays of the sun streaming through the window illuminate their figures, as if those rays could replace the heat that Sasha had left behind.
That scene broke my still fragile heart. I would have liked to reach out to them and try to help them move on, as I would have liked to stay on the farm with them when we came back from Marley to help them get by; obviously I could never have replaced Sasha and they could never have replaced my family, but in these times of battle, what mattered most was healing the wounds between all of us.
I would have liked to talk to them, but my eyes shifted from the Blouse family to the figure of Hange carefully placing a child on the floor. The blond boy was very badly injured on the side of his head, he was bleeding and his clothes had stuck to his body due to the large amount of liquid that had flowed down his torso.
"Hange-san, Wha-" As I stared at the blond boy on the floor, I could see that he was one of the children who had sneaked into our war balloon.
âIsn't that one of the Marleyan children? Why is he here and why is he bleeding?"
Unconsciously my body leaned forward, resting on one knee on the ground and reaching out to the boy. My instincts as a doctor were screaming for me to tend to the poor injured boy regardless of his race and I was willing to do so.
"We will take care of him, go to the room continue with Mikasa and Armin"
I got up without hesitation, taking one last look at the room I was in and it was just at that moment that I recognized Nicolo and Jean in a corner away from everyone else. They both looked very distressed, but I didn't have the opportunity to ask why, they had given me an order and I had to carry it out. I would have to wait until got back to base to understand this terrible situation.
The room they sent me to was at the end of the corridor, the door was closed but every step I took I could hear the soft voices of Mikasa and Armin, apparently talking to someone else. Well, that conversation must have to get a pause because I was about to slam the door in and leave the doors wide open.
âWhat the hell is going on? Why is a Marleyan child unconscious in the kitchen?"
Upon entering, all excited, my eyes only saw the figures of Armin and Mikasa around a table. They both looked up at me in disbelief when they saw me standing on the threshold. For the second time that day, I looked back across the stage in front of me and spotted a small brown-haired figure sitting at the same table. With a little more attention, I saw that the small figure was trembling, perhaps from fear or from adrenaline, at the same time that its face was bruised and full of blood; and putting all my attention on that bloody face I realized that I recognized those eyes, those same eyes that I had looked at with contempt and had looked back at me with the same feeling the night of the invasion.
The missing girl from the Marleyan duo was sitting across from me staring with sheep's eyes.
All exaltation I had in my body dissipated, my gaze fell, leaving nothing more than a neutral countenance. But ... anyone who could see through my eyes, would know they reflected the fatigue and sadness of several accumulated days. Seeing the girl was perhaps a way of attaching all the harmful feelings in a single part of my body.
I let out a long sigh and closed the door slowly behind me. I walked slowly towards where the girl was, running Mikasa to the side and looked at her with the best possible adult countenance. She had a red nose, it looked like it had been hit right on her septum causing her to bleed and stain her dress, which I assumed was courtesy of the Blouse family. Her cheek was scratched and red too, traces of broken and inflamed skin could be seen around her wound, but without any bleeding. This girl would have a swollen face the next day if we don't give her some ice.
âYouâre hurt. Care to explain me what happened?"
I reached my hand out to her, but was greeted with a flinch from her. I could tell she was scared and she had every right to be.Either way, way I brought my hand to her face, placing my index finger and thumb on her jaw to move her head and look for other injuries.
Her face was the one that received the most impact, nothing in her eyes which was a very good sign, and I didnât notice any kind of fracture in the bones of her cheek or septum. Good. I looked around the room for something I could use, but I only found empty tables adorned with a classic tablecloth and a very well elaborated and cared wine cellar, apart from showing off one of the best wine collections in recent years.
"Armin, can you go get some alcohol to disinfect the wounds? Surely they have something in the kitchen "
The blonde gave me a slight nod and left the room, leaving me alone with Mikasa, who was absolved of the situation, but still maintaining an imposing posture. The girl was still shaking on my hand, so I pushed her away and inspected her body for more injuries.
The palms of her hands were stained with blood, I guessed from the bleeding from her nose, but they also had some slight scratches, perhaps she had fallen to the floor. Her dress didnât seem torn in the area of ââthe knees, so I assumed that they werenât injured or it was a very slight scratch, almost no bleeding. Her arms seemed intact as did her torso. I turned to the back of her head, running her hair gently trying to find any trace of blow that could generate a contusion. I didnât find anything that could be fatal or serious, but I did see something that caught my attention.
âYou have marks on your head, diffuse, but they are there. What happened?"
"... A horse bit me"
Of all the situations that could have led to those brands, I didn't expect to hear this one. I didnât expect it, not at all. It caught me off guard and I let out a giggle which I covered with the back of my hand.
"Sorry, shouldn't laugh⌠you deserve it thou" I gave her a little pat on the top of her head before ruffling it a bit and bending down to look into her eyes.
Armin returned to the room, alcohol in hand and a clean cloth. Thank God something was clean in this whole city, I was beginning to lose my faith in the cleanliness of this people. I reached for the items and I proceeded to apply a large amount of alcohol to the cloth and apply it first to the frightened girl's cheek.
"Why are you so good to me? I killed a one of your friends"
That comment made me stop for a second, just like I stopped looking at her wound. My gaze fell to the floor in search of an answer; I searched, searched and searched for answers to questions that didnât have one or werenât as simple as they seemed...or simply looked in the wrong places and the answers were always in my mind, only that my heart wasnât prepared to face them.
"The girl you killed the night of the invasion was called Sasha Blouse and she was the best archer and sniper of the legion"
I turned my gaze to her, continuing to heal her wound on her cheek. When I saw that there was only a small pink stain left on the surface, I moistened the cloth further with alcohol and ran it under her nose, removing any trace of blood. The girl pulled back a bit when she felt itâs smell her nostrils and I had the opportunity to cover her nose for a few seconds to stop the bleeding.
"You know ... you remind me of a boy exactly like you"
When I saw that the bleeding stopped and the girl stopped moving due to the burning and itching that the alcohol was surely causing, I grabbed her hands and began to clean them with small touches avoiding tearing her skin.
âJust as intense and ready to fight for what he thinks is fair. You are just a little girl who was taught that we were the bad guys. Itâs the way you were raised, the way you see the world. They taught us something else, but at the end of the day, apart from everything... we are the same"
It hurt. Yes, it hurt to see the one guilty of the death of my best friend, but it hurt more to see in her eyes the hatred and contempt they had taught her towards our race. The hate cycle we were getting into wasn't going to get us anywhere and it was better to nip it in the bud, even with baby steps.
When I finished cleaning all her wounds, I put the cloth on the table and looked at my performance with deep pride. It wasn't much, but it was enough; Not only had I cleaned a few simple wounds, but perhaps, I wished that perhaps, it would begin to heal her mind ... and mine as well.
I got up heavily, noticing how my knees creaked when squatting for a long time and I stretched my body generating more crunches, but noting at the same time how the heaviness of my back left and leave behind a much lighter load.
âVery good, youâve been a good patient. Surely there is something sweet in the kitchen that I can give youâ I patted her head again and gave her a sincere smile, one that I hadn't given anyone for quite a while. I headed to the door unconcerned about the situation I assumed was still going on in the main room.
"What's going to happen to Eren Jaeger?"
What will happen to him? And why does she ask me that?
"Don't worry, I'm not letting him put a finger on you" A sincere answer to a question asked out of fear. I reached the door and in the middle of the sentence I turned the knob wanting to make my way into the hall, but a tall figure blocked my way.
Eren was right on the threshold with the intention of opening it.
Well mark me impress
My body jerked back instinctively, avoiding taking my eyes off his. I moved to the right side, avoiding the figure of the Marleyan girl from being in Eren's point of view. I didn't know why he was here or if the others knew about it, but whatever the reason, he surely wasnât alone and this wasnât going to lead to anything good.
"Sit down"
He took a few steps forward, closing the door with his foot, not even paying attention to his surroundings, or maybe yes, now everything was a confusion when it came to the brunette in front of us.
"You can't tell me what to do" I planted myself in front of him, without taking a step back. We were both facing each other, him carrying me several inches tall, several dominating inches that made my legs shake and my heart race.
If it had been in any other situation, that trembling, that acceleration would have been very well received. It was impossible not to feel small next to Eren, the damn bastard had hit a big stretch and there was a great difference around the body between the two, a difference that I always loved to admire.
But not now. Not at this moment when everything was going to shit and I had to stand up to the figure of a little girl who was internally dying of fear thanks to him.
"Sit. Down"
Few centimeters separated us from each other, his chest too close to mine, I could feel how it swelled with each breath. He raised his hand to my face, letting me see his cut palm and dripping blood. Fear took hold of me, making me stand even more in my position, but I wasnât going to give in so easily.
"You wouldn't" I looked him in the eye, defiant, longed for and everything in between.
"Try me"
It was all he said before grabbing onto my shoulders and pulling me back. My body collided with the table and instinctively I placed my hands on it. I heard how Armin and Mikasa tried to get closer to where we were, but a single glance from Eren made them stay still, submissive, as they lost in their positions. His gaze returned to mine. My breath hitched and I had to avoid with all my might thinking about the position we were entwined.
It wasnât the time to think about how my hips were slightly elevated, just my butt up on the table and one leg dangling, his knee between my legs, preventing me from closing them and keeping the leg that was hanging in the air. His gaze wandered between our bodies and he returned to my eyes. He tightened his grip on my shoulders and pushed me to the side of the table, dropping me onto the chair next to the girl.
"I said. Sit. Down"
He took his hands off my shoulders, took the seat next to me and Armin and Mikasa sat with him, leaving an air of discomfort and tension in the environment.

Day 2: Relationships / Matching
*Introducing the Perfect Pair Collection, featuring asymmetrical designs that match.* The oxymoron was not lost on her.
Time to switch to a completely different art style on day 2â đŁ Todayâs prompt features the Pomefiore trio!
A harsh tug on his sleeve drew Jade to a halt. He glanced at Miss Raven, who clung to his side, pointing to a nearby shop window with her free hand. Jade followed her finger to what was on displayâsmall boxes and racks, each displaying a glittering piece of jewelry.
âOya, I do not believe we have baubles on the grocery list,â he tutted, teasingly wagging a finger. âTo think that your interest would be so easily captured by mere shiny objects, Miss Raven... Corvids truly are simple-minded creatures. Perhaps you have more in common with the headmaster than I had initially thought.â
âIâm allowed to appreciate beauty, arenât I?â Raven retorted, casting Jade a sideways glare. âBesides, you wear jewelry.â
âAh, this?â He gently tapped at the earring dangling from his left earlobe. Three diamond-shaped scales cast a silvery-blue glow upon his skin. âI wouldnât call it a piece of jewelry so much as a battle trophy.â
At this, Raven wrenched her face away from the glass display to stare at him. âPlease donât tell me you did something unsavory to get your hands on it.â
âYou have such strange ideas, Miss Raven.â Jade chuckled as he slicked back his black stripe of hair behind his accessory-clad ear. âFufu. There is nothing unsavory about victors claiming a prize for their triumph, correct? That is only the natural order of things.â
⌠I feel sorry for whoever the twins beat up.
She shook her head and returned her gaze to the display window--to the selection of earrings that were laid out upon velvet cloth. Introducing the Perfect Pair Collection, read a sign, featuring asymmetrical designs that match. (The oxymoron was not lost on her.)
Surrounding the sign were various pairs, as promised: a sun and a moon, a jar of jelly and another of peanut butter, a hand and a heart⌠but Raven felt herself drawn to earrings in the shape of a lock and a key. How peculiar that the head of the key curved into a heart and that its teeth were ribbed with pearls, and how slim yet stylish the lock was.
âMy, are you interested in that pair? What an interesting choice.â
âN-No! Iâm just admiring them,â Raven insisted. âYou donât normally see designs like this⌠I wonder how the jeweler was able to make objects so clunky and heavy into something wearable.â
âThat is a fair point. The craftsmanship is indeed exquisite.â Jadeâs sharp eyes carefully traced the shape of Ravenâs ears--pointed, like the headmasterâs. âHow unfortunate it is that you lack the piercings to wear them.â
Ravenâs hands instinctively flew to her earlobes, as though trying to shield them from him. âI told you, Iâm not interested in buying--âÂ
âWhy, whoever said anything about you purchasing the earrings? I was keen to pick up a new pair for myself.â Jade provided a smile and a bow. âNow then, if you would excuse me for one momentâŚâ
Before Raven could protest, he had already vanished inside the jewelry store, leaving her stranded on the street with a list of groceries to procure.
â... Fantastic.â
The bird sighed into her palms. From past experience, she knew that it would not be a wise idea to pursue Jade and attempt to drag him away. For as skilled as Raven was at weaving words, she often found that Jadeâs natural charisma, paired with his silver tongue, often gave him the advantage in disagreements.
Best to just leave it for now.
Still, she warily eyed him through the store window as he conversed with a clerk. A few vague hand gestures, a practiced smile, a polite and controlled laugh. All motions Raven had familiarized herself with.
Entranced with her eel watching, Raven didnât register the trio approaching her until one of the group called out to her.
âMon petit oiseau! What a coincidence it is to be running into you today.â
âOh!â She startled at the huntsmanâs voice. âRookâŚ!! And⌠Vil-senpai and Epel-san. HelloâŚ!â
Acutely aware of Vilâs sternness, Raven quickly lowered her head in deference. This earned a slight curl of the lips from him.
He was dressed as fashionably as ever--a white, frilly top with a V-neck, paired with sunglasses propped in his hair, sleek leggings, and glove boots. Several necklaces adorned Vilâs long, milky neck, and his face was expertly painted with a sheer wash of shimmering, nude makeup.
âGood day to you, Shetland potato,â Vil replied coolly. He passed a glance to Epel, who stood behind him, struggling to carry several rolls of fabric.
âG-Good day,â Epel managed, tugging at his collar. It appeared as though Vil had dressed him, too--for he was dressed in a lacey lilac blouse, and tied off with a black bow. Instead of leggings, Epel wore puffy shorts and striped socks.
âSuch a treat it is to see you out of the attic and venturing out into the world!â Rook laughed, brushing back a wisp of his golden hair. He was without his trademark feathered hat, and had traded his dormitory robes for a button-down shirt--the sleeves rolled up and a few buttons undone, army green khakis, and boating shoes.
Compared to the Pomefiore trio, Raven looked like a spaghetti stain on a square of white fabric. She nervously dusted off her skirt, hoping that Vil wouldnât harp on how she was wearing the same outfit yet again.
âWhat brings you to town?â Rook inquired, dropping the bags he had been carrying and excitedly grasping Ravenâs hands instead.
âJust⌠groceries. Uncle is away for a conference, so I am to fend for myself in his absence,â she mumbled, gingerly prying her hands away. âWell⌠sort of. Jade has been mother henning me for the past few days.â
âMonsieur Mastermind? Ohoh. What a dynamic duo! Two halves of the same coin, trading bitter blows with their words⌠forever locked in verbal combat!â
âI⌠I guess?â
âI trust that he is looking after you well?â Rookâs smile widened. âIf not... perhaps we should kidnap you away and stow you in Pomefiore until the headmasterâs return!â
âAbsolutely not,â Vil snapped. âWe have our hands far too full with play preparations to be hosting the Shetland potato--or anyone else, for that matter.â
⌠H-He didnât object to Rook kidnapping people. Is that a normal thing for Rook to do? Should I be concerned? She shoved her question down to change the subject to something more comfortable. âErm⌠Is that what the supplies are for?â
âOui! Roi du Poisonâs club is staging a performance in the winter. These materials are to make costumes.â The huntsmanâs eyes suddenly lit up with a mischievous sparkle. âFufu. Mon roi has thrown his heart and soul into direction. It is a treat to behold!â
âCongratulations, senpai.â
âDonât congratulate me yet,â Vil commanded, holding up a hand. âWe are still in the throes of auditions. Wait until you have witnessed the show for yourself before you cheer for it.â
âOh, well⌠I hope you find suitable actors, then.â
Vilâs eyes suddenly narrowed. âHm. Now that you mention it⌠Shetland potato!â
Raven jumped when he barked at her. âY-Yes?! Look, I know Iâve been wearing the same outfit every time you see me, itâs just that Uncle fills my closet with nothing but duplicate clothesâŚ!!â
âI think you would be fitting for one of the roles in my play,â Vil declared. âReport to Pomefiore at 8 am sharp tomorrow if you are interested in auditioning.â
âHuh?! Me, in one of your⌠I donât think IâmâŚâ
âAre you doubting my eyes?â His glare sharpened, turning into a pointed dagger.
âN-No, sirâŚâ
âGood. Then I hope to see you then.â Vil spun around on his heel and waved a hand. âRook! Epel! Weâre going. Donât dawdle, now.â
âYes, Vil-senpai. I-Iâm coming!â
Epel dashed after his Dorm Leader, Rook following suit--but not before he gave Raven one last glance over his shoulder, accompanied by a wave. Au revoir, he mouthed, the twinkle never parting from his emerald eyes.
She waved back absentmindedly, brought back from her daze only by the ringing of the jewelry store door swinging open again.
Jade emerged from within, bearing a small baby blue box with a white silk bow. âI have returned, Miss Raven. Fufu. I trust that you were not too lonely without me?â
She hastily hid her hands behind her back. âOf course not. You were only gone for a few minutesâŚ!â
âSo I was.â Jadeâs eyes darted to the Pomefiore trio, whose figures were vanishing over the horizon. âHad I been absent a few moments longer, perhaps I would have had to wrangle you from the hands of an nosy huntsman.â
âAs though forcing your way in and kidnapping me back would be any better!â
Jade stifled a laugh.
âIn any case, I have procured the earrings I had my heart set on.â With deft fingers, he slid off the top, revealing a glittering lock and key tucked away inside. Jade plucked up the key by the head. âMiss Raven, do lend me your ear.â
âThose are yoursâŚ!â
âCorrect--and therefore, I may do with these as I please.â He smiled pleasantly. âAnd I choose to lend you one to wear.â
âItâs not that simple! Have you forgotten already? I canât wear it--donât have piercings,â she protested. âYouâre not going to jab it through my earlobes, are you?!â
âI will do no such thing.â Jadeâs voice remained tranquil as he seized the raven by her chin and jerked her head to one side, yielding a clear opening for him to plant the earring. She squawked in surprise, flailing against him--but his grip was too strong, and she, too weak.
He sighed, continuing to speak as though he were describing the nice weather. âI assure you, this will not hurt one bit, fufufu. Now be a dear and hold still.â
It happened in an instant, despite the birdâs struggles. A slight pinch upon her earlobe, the kiss of the cool metal key on her skin, and it was over.
Jade straightened with a satisfied smirk, and patted Raven on the cheek. âThere we are.â
âEh? What? How didâŚâ She cautiously poked at the earring. âThere wasnât a needleâŚ?â
âI requested that the jeweler convert the key earring into a clip-on.â
âWhaâŚ?! You⌠You tricked me again?!â Her face flared with a mixture of embarrassment and rage. âBut why even bother with such a thing?â
âI wished to see how it would look on you. As I suspected, it is lovely on you.â
Raven gritted her teeth, praying that it would somehow help hide her flusteredness. â... And what do you plan to do with the lock earring? You didnât also have that one converted, did you?â
âCertainly not.â Jade toyed with the lock in question, rolling it between his index finger and thumb. âI was thinking to wear it myself in lieu of my usual sturgeon scale earring, so that we may match.â
âMatch?â Raven scoffed through her blush. âI didnât know you cared so much about your accessories while grocery shopping.â
âI do not,â he confessed with a coy grin. âHowever, I would be remiss to pass up an opportunity to show to the world what a perfect pair we make.â
âYou what--â Raven was interrupted by Jade grasping one of her hands and placing the lock earring into it.
âIf you would do the honors,â he murmured, tilting his head to one side--and once more, slicking his black hair back. His tone was low and inviting, yet somehow she could hear him well and clear over the townspeople that bustled around them.
The scales suspended on his earring swung back and forth in a slow motion. Click, clack, against one another, in an almost hypnotic fashion.
His single, golden eye stared right at her. Waiting, pleading.
Raven swallowed hard. With trembling hands, she unfastened the sturgeon scale earring from his earlobe and secured the lock earring in its place. As soon as the deed was done, she rushed to wipe her hands off on her skirt.
Eel cooties, eel cooties, eel cootiesâŚ!!
âThank you for your assistance, Miss Raven.â
âYouâre⌠youâre welcome.â She pursed her lips, avoiding his eyes--but her traitorous gaze soon found itself lingering on the lock. âThat suits you, in a way--like a lock, you guard many secrets, and itâs impossible to get you to open up.â
âFufu. I am flattered to hear such kind words. If I may return the compliment, that key earring fits you like a glove.â
âRight. Because Uncle is adorned in keys, it would make sense for the motif to carry over to his relatives.â
âNo, no, you misunderstand.â Jade held a finger to his lips, a twinkle of conspiracy in his golden eyes. âCome closer⌠and I shall impart one of my closely guarded secrets to you.â
âThis isnât another one of your tricks, is it?â she asked, her eyes forming suspicious slivers--but despite her curt words, the birdâs body instinctively leaned into his. She cursed her curiosity.
Jade chuckled and bent down, allowing his lips to hover by her ear. Time seemed to slow, but her heartbeat quickened. Face, hot--extremities, cold. Opposites, yet matching. One, unable to exist without the other.
And, at last, his answer came.
âIt suits you well--for you hold the key to my heart, Miss Raven.â

The Arcane Angel
âł đđđđđđđ˘: â why is it that the good-looking people are always the ones with the mad minds? Several cases of dead bodies have been discovered, and they are all linked. They are often accompanied by a pair of angel wings.â
⼠đđđđđđđ: jeonghan x female reader
⼠đđđđđ: serial killer au, suggestive/smut, angst
⼠đ đđđ đđđđđ: 6K
⼠đ đđđđđđđ: there are some suggestive and light smut scenes, if not comfortable with them please donât engage. Profanity. we have smirky and seductive jeonghan, what a surprise.Â
âł part of the song seriesÂ
âłÂ Because we don't want to behave
Apparently you lost control, you never really had before
Say, ooh you changed, you're not the same
You're different than the way that I loved you
When you turned around and heard a piercing scream, a shadow appeared from the dark woods. You quickly grabbed your phone, switched on the flashlight, and cast it at the shadow.
You couldn't tell what it was because all you could see were some big black wings. You slowly rose with your jacket and stepped closer to the forest, texting Jeonghan to ask about his whereabouts.
âBabe, I didn't exactly follow your instructions about staying in the car, but there's something wrong here. Call me please.â
As you peered up from your phone, you heard a ping from across the ground; he was now in front of you, wings and all. His black eyes gazed into your soul as blood dripped down his wings.
As he quickly caught you and whisked you deep into the dark night, a chuckle escaped his throat.
You didn't notice when he started going missing at odd hours of the day, particularly at night, but you did notice a slight shift in his mood whenever he returned from whatever he was doing.
You didn't want to question him or worse, catch him in the act; you'd understand if he were to come forward, right-?
When you stop talking to Jeonghan, he stops sucking on your neck. He dipped his finger into your folds, eliciting a moan from your parched throat. As your body whimpered as your high passed over you, he moved his digits faster and faster.
You both went limp as you collapsed on the bed, gasping for air, your body aching for relief as you slid the water from the bed stand gulping it down.
Jeonghan returned from the bathroom with a washcloth and gently washed you up while kissing the swollen region and giggling as he saw your reaction.
The aftermath was the best part of sex. How could someone who was so rough and passionate yet be so caring and kind? You leaned against your arm, watching him clean up the dried cum that had splattered all over your and his body.
You blew him a kiss as he finished you up, tossing the cloth in the bin, and ran over to your side, arms open. You scooted over to him and closed your eyes as you wrapped your arms around his waist, nestling into his chest.
You mumbled a simple question against his skin, which perplexed him for a moment
âDo you love me?â
As he pampered you with several kisses on your forehead, finally landing on your lips as he drew you closer to him, his famous chuckles fell from his lips.
âI'll love you forever y/nâ As you closed your eyes and remembered the unforgettable day when you met him on that fateful night, your chest began to move softly.
You were 23 and fresh out of college, ready to live and move anywhere you could, and South Korea was your first stop. Not only did you want to immerse yourself in the culture and admire the stunning architecture, but it was also time to reconnect with some old friends you made on a previous trip abroad.
You had a difficult time understanding the language and finding out the city's customs and all of their wonderful facets. However, with the aid of your college classes and friends, you were able to shape phrases and sentences that would assist you in getting around the area.
You texted your friend Min-Su as you walked to the airport entrance with your luggage, waiting for her car to arrive. A beep alerted you, and you dashed over to the white car, arms outstretched, as she parked and opened the trunk to load your belongings.
As she rushed over to you and wrapped you in a long-awaited embrace, she let out a cry. As you tightly clenched her waist and soaked in this quality time with her, a tear streamed down your cheek.
As you both jumped in the car, a grin grew on her face, and within minutes, you were blasting music from the aux, resuming where you all left off!
âDo you recall the group of boys we met the last time you were here?â You stood up from the sofa, glaring at her grin.
âIf you start a sentence with sooooo, you know it's not going to be good.â As you sat back on the sofa, you heard her laugh, and a shadow came to a halt over your body and spoke.
âWell, that's accurate, but they've invited us to a kickback at their place. I did mention you were returning to town after a long absence.â
You jumped from the sofa and dashed to the fridge for a drink as a hand flew to her thigh as she rubbed it. You relaxed on the island while sipping your water, curious about her proposal.
âWill Jeonghan be there."Â Min- Su's head whipped around, raising her brows and smiling, she chuckled in your direction.
âPerhaps you'll have to come if you want to find out.â You rolled your eyes at her and walked back to your temporary room, shouting at her as the door closed behind you.
âText me the details, I'm going to lie down and rest my eyes, and fuck you!â
As you closed your eyes, you heard a snicker, followed by an âI love you too.â
As you blinked away the crust and sleep with your eyes half-closed, trying to block out the noise from the phone, your alarm goes off. Min-Su kindly entered the room and turned off the alarm for you. In response to her behavior, you waved your hand at her.
âGet your butt up, Luv. You must have been exhausted because you slept for three hours straight. âJet lag.â You awoke suddenly and checked your phone; it had been 3 hours. As you trudged to your suitcase in search of something to wear, an unavoidable yawn slipped out of your throat.
When you reached your bulky suitcase, a stretch took over your body, and a hand flew to your face as you tried to relieve the pain.
âI'm not sure what you're wearing, buttttt you got an hour to get ready."
As you tried to process what she had said, your eyes flew up at her.
A damn hour, to cover up all this. Jeez
You ran over to your phone and switched on your speaker, hoping to speed up the process of getting ready after being awakened by the startling news. With voices coming through the speaker, you hurriedly applied your makeup and found some comfortable shoes before hurriedly throwing on a bag and heading out the door.
âI'm not going to lie, I'm blown away. I look so damn hot. See, Min-Su, you had nothing to be concerned about.â As you approached the entrance, she rolled her eyes at you, where you could already hear voices and music blasting.
Here we go
You cursed yourself as you remembered that you hated going to these parties when Min-su opened the door and was greeted by shouts of random shouting. You didn't like loud noises, and many people made you feel uneasy, but you were always there to have a nice time.
You clutched Min-Su's hand as she led you to the kitchen, which smelled strongly of booze. You noticed a familiar group of people approaching you from down the hall. When you realized who it was, a grin spread across your face.
âIs that Y/N, THE Y/N, it's been a long time, and we've missed you dearly.â Cheeky Seokmin hugged you with open arms, and as you returned the hug, more of the other members came into the kitchen looking for you.
Except for one male, everybody received their fair share of hugs about 5 minutes later. You noticed his figure leaning against the kitchen door frame, sipping whatever he was drinking and paying no attention to you. He had the same appearance as before, except now he had black locks cascading down the front of his forehead. He turned to you with a smirk on his face, eyeing you up and down until he left the room.
So we're playing this game are we now.
When excused to go get some "juice," you swallowed the bitter taste and let out an enthusiastic yell as you flew your hands up in the air, gathering another drink and chasing the prey out the back door towards the pool.
You were already stumbling out the door, even though you had only had two drinks. As you turned around with the biggest smile on your face, a hand landed on your back.
As he shifted you to the closest chair he could find, a perplexed Seungcheol kept you steady. He sat you down and looked you in the eyes. You weren't yet wasted, but you were on your way there, and a few more drinks would have put you out.
When he gave you his cup and urged you to drink, you looked up and took it, perplexed.
âDon't worry, it's just water,â says Seungcheol
You took a swig and chuckled at him as you gasped at his remark.
âWait, so the famous Seungcheol isn't drinking?â
âNo, hold up, I'm the "designated driver," which means I've just had one drink so far. Someone has to keep an eye on these boys.â He rolled his eyes at you and turned to face the other partygoers who were dancing to the noisy yet soothing music.
A hiccup escaped your throat when you caught a glimpse of something out of the corner of your eye. He was looking fucking good once more. You set your cup down and stood up, bowing to Seungcheol and thanking him for the short conversation.
You gathered your courage and approached him; it was almost as if he was teasing you as if he was playing a game with you. When all you wanted to do was fu-
He had already walked up the stairs, waiting for you as you reached the back door before you could reach him. As you ascended the stairs, you saw him reach the last room and excused yourself through the crowd.
âHello, Y/N, it's been a long time since we've seen each other.â You walked into the room to find him casually typing on his phone on the bed frame.
You sat on the opposite side of the bed, shutting the door, and crossed your arms, laughing at his remark.
âI admire how you put on this show when you begged me to return this summer. âSomething must have changed,â Â When he looked up from his phone as he got out of bed and approached you, he had a devilish grin on his face.
He took a step closer to you, almost whispering, as he stood over your small frame.
âSays a lot for someone who was basically begging me to fuck them senselessly. âDid you miss something or?â When you grabbed his shirt and yanked him closer to you, he licked his lips.Â
âHow about we pick up where we left off and see if you can keep your promise.â He pushed you down on the bed and kissed you without breaking the kiss as you tossed his clothes to the side as the last words left your mouth.
He looked up at you with carnivorous eyes and spoke loudly until he hit your core.
âOh, this is going to be so much fun; I'm so glad you're back.â
And with that, you guys were back to being your usual horny selves.
As you slowly open your eyes and search the room for Jeonghan, you stir in your sleep. It was pretty early in the morning, so he must have gone out. Your hand grabbed the television remote and turned it on.
The news lady began speaking as you were distracted by your phone, oblivious to the events she was discussing. You dialed Jeonghan's number to see where he was. To be honest, you miss seeing his face first thing in the morning and before he goes to work.
(In News Voice) âAccording to recent reports, the Arcane Angel has struck once more. At 4:30 a.m., a young man's body was reportedly discovered at the scene off of 3rd Street on Seoul Ave. We've just received news that another pair of angel wings have been discovered at the crime scene, coated in the blood of the deceased. This is the third body this month, for a total of eight bodies in the last three months. To the neighborhood, we ask that you remain safe while we investigate who is responsible. Now let's talk about the weather.âÂ
You looked up from your phone and gasped at her words; this jerk has yet to be caught. You recall a similar case from when you first arrived a few years ago. And you thought they'd figured it out by now.
The thought of their intentions made you shiver. You took a brief breather before getting out of bed and walking to the bathroom, where you stripped off your clothes and entered the shower.
It wasn't long until you heard the door open and a few voices, as you scrubbed your body trying to figure out who it was. âMaybe he didnât go to work, you never know with himâ
As you finished up, turning off the water and getting out of the shower, a grin crept across your lips as you heard the bedroom door open and a familiar voice ringing in your ears.
Jeonghan guffawed and dashed to your side, hugging you closely as you wrapped yourself in a robe, pouting as he leaned his head on your shoulder.
âYou should have left it open; you know all access for my eyes only.â
You slapped his chest and turned to face the mirror, attempting to do your skincare. Jeonghan wrapped his arms around your neck and kissed you deeply. As your eyes were rolling, you let your neck fall into his arms.
Still, in ecstasy, you let him pick you up and put you down on the counter after he united your rob and tossed it to the side.
âThe fact that you can't just let me do anything I want without it leading to more. Aren't you such a needy person?â You chuckled as he rolled his eyes at you, and as your back slumped against the mirror, trying to catch your breath, he started to eat you out while spreading your legs.
As he pulled yourself closer to his mouth in an attempt to build more tension, a cry escaped your throat.
As you tried to talk, you whimpered. âHannie... fasterâfaster-fast. As you held on to his hair for support, your words failed to come out. As he pinned you down, he started to lick harder, and slick juices poured out of you as you panted.
He cleaned the cum off the back of his hand and sucked up the remainder while he laughed at your disheveled appearance.
âWhenever I do that, you literally fall apart. Also, get ready because I want to take you out today haveâ
As you walked out the bedroom door, he gave you another kiss on your wet core. You shook your head and gently got up, you laughed and called out to him, tightly securing the robe around your body.
âYou can't just spring that upon me after what you just did. Also, It's not my fault you're so good at it.â
You came out of the bathroom in a casual outfit and moseyed over to the sofa, where you were surprised to see more people than you had expected. Mingyu, Hoshi, Joshua, and Seungcheol were all laughing on the sofa, much to your surprise.
You waved to everyone before sitting on Jeonghan's lap and whispering in his ear.
âIf I had known there was company, I would have been quieter.â He replied with a chuckle into your ear.
âIt's not because I had to prove to them who is mine and who can satisfy you as well as I can. No, it's not me.â As you lay on his lap, shielding your face, he kissed your temple and wrapped his arms around your waist.
As the discussion progressed, the subject of the Arcane Angel crept into the conversation, and everyone's expressions fell silent. You entwined your hand with Jeonghan as you gazed down at your arms. You spoke and looked at the others.
âDo you think this guy will ever approach us; we have no idea what his intentions are. He was pursuing young males last I heard.â As you looked at Jeonghan shaking his head, you felt a grip on your palm.
Why did they not want to talk about this?
âWhy don't we go out now?â Jeonghan said, tapping your arm. âThe mood is dropping, and I'd like to hang out with my girl.â
You grinned and stood up, grabbing a coat from the rack and saying goodbye to everyone when you heard Jeonghan calling out to his friends.
âPlease don't make a mess, and remind Joshua of tonight; we don't want anyone to be late.â
Joshua gave him a thumbs up and stood there watching as we shut the door behind them, leaving the house silent
As you got into the car, you held Jeonghan's hand as you pulled out of the driveway humming as he entered the lanes.
âSo, what were you and Joshua talking about?â âDo you mind if I come?â
As he considered his extracurricular behaviors, he caught a glimpse of your pouty face and broke down inside.
With a shake of his head, he expressed his dissatisfaction
âNot this time, love, me and the guys... we have a meetingâ You scowled at his remark as you cocked your head to the side. He locked his gaze on you once more, tightening his grip on you as you crossed your legs aimlessly, staring out the window, oblivious to his presence.
He has gotten good with lying, hmm?
âBabe, please look at me.â As you guys walked into the park, he jumped up and down. You laughed and didn't seem to notice his movements. If you're going to be so mysterious, I suppose I'll follow suit.
As you filmed the scenery with your camera pointing towards the lake, little ducks emerged from the water and walked towards you both. You cooed at the baby ducks waddling around the mother as you walked over to them.
As you got closer to the birds, you talked softly to the smallest one, smiling as you returned your gaze to Jeonghan.
âYou know little one, don't get a boyfriend because all they do is lie and hide secrets from their lovely girlfriend.â When you turned around and saw Jeonghan, a grin appeared on your face.
As he looked down on you with a sulky smile on his face, you instantly chuckled and hugged him, telling her that you were just... partly joking.
âI c-could bring you if you really want to go so bad.â However, you must stay in the car.â You leaped into the air and kissed him on the cheek before sprinting past him to a grassy open field.
As you sat out your picnic spread waiting for your smiley boyfriend, you smiled as you saw him jogging up to you. He arrived and sat down, removing the food from the basket and clearing space for the meal.
You took out two wine glasses, one of which you passed to him, and afterward you went to get the champagne. He watched you with fascination as you poured champagne into his glass.
âCheers to this beautiful day, and thank you from the bottom of my heart for bringing me on this ride. I believe we both agree that this was something we all needed. With this maniac on the loose, things have been tense, but I'm glad I have you to help me stay safe through it all, I love you.â
He draws you tighter to him and smashes his lips on you instead of his playful smirk that he usually has on his face when you get all gushy. As you scoot closer to him and close in on the empty space, his tongue slips in and out of your mouth
As he caressed your face and patted the open space between his thighs, he pulled back and massaged your head. You slid closer to him and sat in between his lap, kissing his hand lightly and resting your head on his chest, soaking it all in.
It was late at night, about 12 a.m. The atmosphere was much darker than it appeared on the surface. As he pulled into an empty parking lot overlooking a forest, you peered over at Jeonghan. You couldn't tell who was there, but the other boys' cars were familiar.
With a smile on his face, Jeonghan switched off the car and faced you.
âFirst and foremost, as I previously said, you must remain in the car. I and the guys have this meeting and we will be out late. So, if you get tired or need to return home, I'll leave my keys with you. I'll be able to get a ride home with Joshua. If you get hungry, I have left some snacks in the back. âAre you sure?â
You cocked your head and shook your head, trying to figure out what was going on.
âWhat are you guys doing in the woods for a âmeeting?â It seems suspicious, and it will take that long. Tell the others not to stay out late because the Arcane Angel is still out there.â
He laughed as he rolled his eyes at your joke and took a bag from the back.
âOut there is a little cabin, So it's not just meeting on a grassy patch. And I'm not sure why they picked that name for him-- I mean for them. I suppose it's catchy. But don't worry about me; I'm capable of looking after myself.â
You snickered as you reclined in your chair, pulled out your iPad, and opened Netflix.
âIf you say so, don't forget to kiss me before you go. Remember those movies where the girlfriend kisses the man and then gets murdered? That is something I do not want to happen.â
âI swear, you're such a drama queen.â He kissed you repeatedly before opening the door and waving to you as he approached the other boys near the car. He turned around and waved before walking into the woods.
You shut yourself in for a few hours by turning on the drama you were currently watching. Knowing you, it was only a matter of time before you finished the series, and this quiet time provided you with enough opportunity to do so.
Before you let loose and relax, you took out the snack bag and pulled out some chips, then hit play and settled in for the ride.
As you turned off your phone, you rubbed your eyes and yawned. When you looked out the window, it had sufficiently darkened, and you checked the time, it was 2 a.m. To get some fresh air, you rubbed the back of your neck and opened the car door.
You gently jumped out and stretched while allowing your legs to regain some energy. You heard a scream coming from the direction of the forest as you walked around for a while. You were startled, but not completely terrified.
As you rushed to the car, grabbing your phone to record for evidence, another scream echoed from the forest.
Maybe it was the Arcane Angel? Imagine the headline, the stunning Y/N Y/L/N caught the Arcane Angel. How cool.
You grabbed your jacket and threw it on and ran towards the direction of the forest, switching on your flashlight to aid you in the moonlight.
Stay in the car, my ass.
As you aimlessly walked through the forest looking for something, you could hear the crisp leaves under your feet as you stomped on them, offering small entertainment. As you move deeper into the trees, you put your hand in your pocket and hug your cold body even tighter.
Why the fuck are they so deep. remind me to not come to these âmeetingsâ anymore
A shadow crossed your path before you could process what had happened. It was hard to tell what it was, but it was moving quickly. It was almost gliding, more like flying.
When you turned around and heard another piercing scream, a shadow appeared from the dark woods. You flung your light at the shadow.
You couldn't tell what it was because all you could see were some big jet-black wings. When you smelt something in the breeze, you took a step back and scrunched your brows in disgust.
It smelt rotten.
When you looked around, you heard more strange sounds that perplexed you. You weren't about to become a statistic. You cursed to yourself when you sent a text to Jeonghan.
âBabe, I didn't exactly follow your instructions about staying in the car, but there's something wrong here. Please call me.â
As you peered up from your phone, you heard a ping from across the ground; he was now in front of you, wings and all. His black eyes gazed into your soul as blood dripped down his wings.
As he quickly caught you and whisked you deep into the dark night, a chuckle escaped his throat.
You screamed and thrashed about in an attempt to free yourself from his clutches, shouting to the dark night for help. Nothing worked, and as you soared through the air, not daring to look up at the figure, you knew you were in for a long trip.
When you knew you were bound in a chair and blindfolded, a chuckle escaped your mouth. From the other side of the wall, you heard a "whoosh" sound. You struggled to spin around to see who it was and what it was after.
âYou know, this whole thing makes me laugh so hard. This is what happens when you're nosy. You remember, the nosy ones always die first.â
Before you could process what was happening, a figure appeared in front of you and removed your blindfold. You blinked a lot, trying to take in the light when looking at the person in front of you.
âFuckin Jeonghan, I knew it was true; my suspicions were right. At the very least, you could've at least been more secretive about it.â
He gave you a puzzled look and coughed at you as he leaned in his chair in front of you.
âWait, tell me what you're talking about. You knew who I was all along.â
You laughed and threw your head back, unable to believe what you were seeing in front of you. You smirked as you crossed your legs.
As Jeonghan looked at you, a gust of wind came out of nowhere, causing you to break free from the rope spinning around the wisp of cloud, exposing your true identity to Jeonghan.
"Witchcraft"
As he took in the scene in front of him, he gasped and staggered back. As he scrambled to his feet, attempting to appear presentable in front of you, he struggled to get the words out. You chuckled at him and shook your head.
âThis one isn't going to sit well with the Council.â
You ran your hand through your hair and shook off the dust from your chilling entrance.
You crept up to him, crossing your arms and placing your fingers all around his neck, soaking it all in. You didn't expect him to learn about you so quickly, but I suppose things happen.
He shook his head and swept his hand through his hair, still perplexed by what had occurred.
âAll right, before you start talking, let me get to start. Who are you, and what did you do with my girlfriend, and who the hell do you think you are?"Â
You came to a halt and slowly turned around, chuckling in his direction. You leaned in close to his face, whispering something into his ears. The atmosphere had darkened by at least a factor of ten.
âWell, your "girlfriend" is still right here, if you must know. She's just gone for the time being, and I'll explain. Â You're welcome to get a drink. I heard you and your "gang" were on their way to a meeting. âHow are things going?â
He stood there watching as you talked directly into his ears; he wasn't sure if he liked this new version of you, but it was certainly sexy when you explained your part in the story.
âSo, Mr. Yoon, where shall I begin?â Waiting for his answer, you cocked your head to the side and crossed your legs.
âWhy don't you just tell me, how do you know the Council?â he thought as he raised his eyes to the side.
As you told him the story, you leaned forward and winked at him with an "ah" smile on your face.
âFirst and foremost, if you must remember, I am not from here. I'm from The Ode, a small town that you've probably heard of. Anyway, you're a bit of a prick, you know. You cause trouble wherever you go, and when you do, it always falls on our people. Aren't you aware of that-?â
âWell, it is my specialty you know,â Jeonghan smirked and snickered at you.
You rolled your eyes and motioned him to close his mouth with your hand.
âAnyway, The Council figured I'd be a good choice to keep an eye on you, kind of like a guardian angel. BUTTTTT I must admit, you have a knack for persuading people. To make it worse, I couldn't stay for long because I had to return to The Ode for mandatory training and other boring stuff.â
As you spoke, you looked at Jeonghan, and he focused on you as your words came out of your mouth.
âLast but not least, they assigned me to look after you after I completed all necessary training. The first time I met was the start of it all, you were still annoying back then-"
âHey, I mean you still dated meâÂ
âI didn't mean to "date" you in the first place. Things just started happening and I was in too deep to get out. I'm not upset about it. I've had a wonderful time with you over the last few years, but I've strayed from the mission. The only reason I'm here is to keep an eye on you and keep you from getting into any mischief. Unfortunately, Iook at where we are.â
As he tried to hide his blush from you, he snickered. After that, he gasped and looked at you.
âSo, were you sincere in dating me, or was it just part of the plan?â
When you explained yourself, you looked into his eyes. As you said, meeting him wasn't part of the plan, but you were happy you did. You loved his faults and all, even though he was an egotistical ass with a big ego.
âYes, Jeonghan,â you said slowly as you shook your hand in front of him. I guess you have good hands and good flirting skills.â
âI mean, what else can I say-â
âShh, I'm not done yet.â
He scowled at you, crossed his arms, and squirmed around like a child throwing a tantrum.
âAll in all, I'd say. I'm not sure what will happen to me as a result of my huge disaster on this mission. It wasn't all bad, though. I had a great time with you and the guys and created some new memories that will last a lifetime. Perhaps I will convince the Council to let me stay for a while.â
He sprang from his chair and knelt at your side, pleading with you to do so.
âPlease, Y/N, I don't know what I'll do without you.â He secretly peered up through one eye and put on a pouty smile in an attempt to win you over. You chuckled and shoved him to the ground, laughing at his antics.
âSooo... Which do you want to know first, the good or the bad?'
âBad news,â Jeonghan said quickly as he rose from the cabin chair.
âWell, the bad news is that we will have to move to a different area. You caused enough havoc in this one that the Council decided to cover it somehow. The good news is that they're letting me stay; I think I had an effect on you.â You smirked and flipped your hair, laughing at him.
âAnd where did the guys go? It's been a couple of hours. Itâs 4 a.m. and they're still out?â
Jeonghan gasped and dashed to his phone, chuckling as he brushed his hand through his hair, dialing the boy's numbers. When you came closer to the call, you could hear the boys' voices and different laughter. He gave you a sidelong glance and rubbed his head, avoiding eye contact.
âSoo bad news... We still have one more guy to deal with, and we can't just let him go. He'll be the last one, I promise. But we have to hurry because the sun is rising.â
Your face was pressed into your hands as you screamed and punched him in the shoulder. He raced around the room, avoiding your savage blows, before bolting out the door.
He spread his wings and teased you in the air as he spread his wings and hovered over you.
âHaha, you don't have any wings,â he teased as he blew raspberries at you. You won't be able to catch me.âÂ
This bitch really thinks I donât have wings.
You covered your mouth to stifle the laugh that was escaping your lips, and before you could return the joke, you turned in the air, passing the moon quickly. As you smirked in front of Jeonghan, the rays of light shimmered on your velvety wings.
âSo, what exactly did you say...?âÂ
You smirked at him and flew off into the darkness, yelling at him to hurry up.
He flew towards you, scrunching his brows and pouting.
âHeyy, that's not fair. Yours look way cooler than mine.â
On your way to the boys' location, you saw Jeonghan flying far ahead of you. He was the sort to flaunt all of his tricks while flying. As you peacefully watched him, he twirled and twisted in the air, gradually slowing down to fly alongside you.
âSo, Y/N, would I have met you if I hadn't been so hot and a killer?â You sneered at his phrasing and pushed him away from you, which elicited a chuckle from him.
âTo be honest, I'm not sure. I'm glad, though; you've improved my life in several ways. Living on The Ode became tedious after a while. I suppose you might suggest your heinous deeds drew me in.â You chuckled while covering your mouth, attempting to ignore the cringe that ran down your spine.
As you dropped to the ground, he grinned at you and took your hand, holding you close. He kissed your brow and extended his hand, which you gladly accepted and kissed.
âNow there's my lovely girlfriend.â
âSo, what do we have here?â says Jeonghan. He walked up to the badly beaten man and knelt down, laughing at his terrified expression. As he looked up at Jeonghan, the man was terrified and panicked.
âPlease let me go. I'm not going to do it again. Please don't kill me, I promise. "Â As he turned to face you, Jeonghan cackled, his eyes narrowed into a lethal stare, and his mood darkened. When he looked up at him, the man's breath hitched in his throat. No... your th-the, The Arcane Angel, Â As Jeonghan lunged at him and pulled out his heart, splattering blood everywhere as he held it in his hand, inspecting it, he let out piercing screams.
"Isn't it just satisfying, did you see him stuttering when he mentioned my name. The Arcane Angel. It's growing on me.
You look down at your shirt, realizing that blood has splattered all over it. As Jeonghan approached you, tossing the heart to one of the members, you shook your head at him.
He removed the blood that had fallen on your face with his clean hand. He smirked and kissed you on the mouth, wiping the blood from his wings.
âYou're very sexy covered in all that blood,â he grinned as he looked you up and down.
You slapped his shoulder as you cringed at his remark.
âI know I am, but could we please hurry up?â I'm getting tired, and you guys still need to clean up this mess. I'll keep this one off the books, but let's get out of here before I lose my cool.â You threw them a pearly white smile as you sarcastically laughed.
The other members chuckled and nodded in agreement with you. You could see Joshua holding the lifeless man on his back as he, Mingyu, and a few others flew away, waving farewell to the rest of us made our way to the cars.
You looked at Jeonghan, who was wiping the rest of the blood off of him with some wipes he found in your bag. You didn't mind his whole act, you concluded.
Some flaws I can live with.
As you skyrocketed through the air, waiting for him, you chuckled to yourself. He looked at you, puzzled, and threw the remaining wipes into his pocket before flying up to you grabbing your hand.
âHey, why are you laughing at me?âÂ
âBecause it's strange how quickly you switched it off. Like, go off actorâ You bragged about him while raising your hand in the air and waving it around.
As he looked at you, he laughed and shook his head. He realized he had finally met someone who accepted him for who he was, wings and all. He loved your expressions as you continued to describe how he flew at the man like a lunatic.
He inched closer to you and put his finger over your mouth, suppressing your words.
âI know I looked cool, but let's talk about something more positive. Like where the hell weâre moving to, I didn't expect that."
âOh, yeah, I didn't tell you, The Council will take care of that; all we have to do now is return to the Control Center in T-Minus 8 hours.â
He turned to face forward and said, "Oh," as you both approached the car. As you hopped into the car, sighing at the day before you, your wings both retracted in your backs. You planted a kiss on Jeonghan's cheeks before closing your eyes.
He took one look at your worn-out body and began driving towards home
Thanks for staying with me Y/N.

Mama Bear
A Tales of Arcadia Fan-Fiction
by @emachinescat @whumptober2021 day 3 - Sticks and Stones May Break My Bones But... ("who did this to you?")
Summary: After Jimâs fight with Draal, his mom sees his bruises, and Mama Bear is unleashed. Post-Win, Lose, or Draal.
Whumpee: Jim
Words: 2,603
Note: This fic was inspired by what Barbara said in 1x13 about Jim coming home from school covered in bruises. As is my way, I took the idea and ran with it.
TW: none
Barbara Lake had always considered herself incredibly lucky that her son turned out as well as he did. It wasnât her own doing, she was sure of that â she always did the best she could, but being a single mom meant sheâd had to work extra shifts to support her small family and never felt like she was there enough.
No, Jim was just a really good kid.
Not many moms could boast that their sixteen-year-old son could cook better than they could, let alone that they made gourmet lunches and dinners (and breakfasts, on most weekends), not just willingly, but happily. And not many moms could brag that their sixteen-year-old son did the dishes or kept the house clean or put aside his own wants and dreams to take care of his overworked mother. Who got up early to leave flowers on their bedside table after a long night at work, or who tucked them in after they fell asleep on top of the covers, still in their scrubs, because theyâd been too exhausted to do anything else.
Barbara tried not to brag too much about Jim. She knew that he did have a social life of his own, and as far as she could tell, he was fairly well liked at school and she didnât want to embarrass him if any of his friends found out just how much he doted on his mother. But sometimes she couldnât help it, and sheâd find herself rambling to her beautician or the nurses at the hospital or sometimes even a long-suffering patient about how her son was one-of-a-kind. He didnât get into trouble at school, didnât fight, didnât skip school, and almost never missed curfew.
Until one day, he did.
It wasnât even like it was a gradual change. There was no slow fade. She didnât watch him slowly descend into bad grades or late nights or midnight calls about museum break-ins. There were no signs. He went to bed one day, the same as ever, and then suddenly he was getting into trouble at school, getting into fist fights, missing curfew, breaking into museums in the dead of night. Not only that but his grades â which had always been slightly higher than average â had plummeted, and heâd developed dark circles under his eyes like he never slept and sometimes he moved around like he was an eighty-year-old man and though his good nature and kind heart remained, it seemed strained at times. He still did sweet things for her, but not as often.
At first, sheâd thought he was burning the proverbial candle at both ends and his lack of sleep was taking a toll on his mental and physical health. As a doctor, sheâd seen firsthand what lack of sleep could do to a person. Their entire personality would change, or fizzle out, and their judgment would be severely impaired.
But then sheâd seen the bruises and her sleep-loss theory flew out of the window.
***
Two weeks ago
Barbara thought boundaries and independence were a valuable part of a childâs development, so she always knocked before she entered Jimâs room. Of course, if he were gone, she wouldnât bother.
On this particular day â one of her rare days off â she was sure he wasnât home. She hadnât heard him come in, hadnât seen his bike propped up against the side of the house or in the garage. The container of store-bought chocolate chip cookies (she had neither the time nor skill to bake them herself) sheâd left out for him hadnât been touched. For all appearances, Jim hadnât gotten home from school yet.
And so, she didnât knock as she approached his bedroom door with a laundry basket propped on her hip. Jim always did his own laundry, but sheâd seen how tired and overworked heâd been lately and wanted to ease his burden however she could.
The sight that greeted her when she nudged open the door and flipped on the light was one that would stick with her, tattooed onto her mindâs eye, for the rest of her life.
Jim was asleep on top of his unmade bed. It looked like heâd gotten halfway undressed and then decided to forgo comfort for sleep, and lay on his stomach in only his jeans. One shoe was on, the other halfway under the bed. But what arrested her attention so violently was the great rainbow of bruises arching across his back and stretched around his side, disappearing beneath his stomach where he lay on the bed.
She couldnât help herself. A horrified shriek escaped her, and Jim sprung up so quickly it made her head spin. The panicked look in his eyes did not escape her notice, nor did the way he made a desperate reach for his pocket, like he was trying to grab something â trying to defend himself? When he saw who was in his room, and that they were alone, and that there was no danger, the raw fear faded, though a hint of panic remained.
âMom!â he squawked, crossing his arms across his chest like that would be enough to hide the dizzying array of green, purple, yellow, and black that blanketed his chest. She noticed with surprise the lean muscles of his arms. Jim had always been fit, but never strong. Heâd never said anything about a gym and heâd never been serious about sports, but she filed this information away for later and focused on the problem at hand.
Her stomach twisted as her doctorâs eyes traveled slowly, deliberately down her sonâs bare torso. The bruises were worse on his stomach and chest, something she hadnât thought possible, and she realized with horror that some of them were days, maybe weeks, older than others. This â whatever this was â was not an isolated incident.
Rage like sheâd never felt before, like the protective energy of all mothers who had come before her collected into one finely-honed sword, pierced her soul as she came to the only conclusion that made any logical sense: Someone had done this to her son.
When she spoke, she barely recognized her own voice, cold as the furthest depth of the ocean, shaking with unmitigated fury.
âWho did this to you?â
Jimâs answer didnât surprise her, but she also didnât believe it for a second. âNo one. It⌠was an accident.â She watched, lips crammed together in an impossibly thin line, teeth grinding against one another, her hands trembling with a righteous anger she had no outlet for, as Jim slowly reached out for the shirt heâd left in a heap at the end of the bed, the other arm still wrapped protectively around his torso. She didnât stop him. She would absolutely be examining his injuries fully before the evening was done, but for now, sheâd seen enough. The sight of her sonâs bruised flesh would burn in her memory forever, more clearly than when she saw it right in front of her.
Skittishly, like a cat caught sniffing around back alley garbage cans, he snatched up the shirt and swiftly pulled it over his head. He couldnât hide the flinch as he raised his arms to pull the fabric over his head. As he did so, she got the full view of his torso, and the wild, impossible thought flitted through her mind that it almost looked like some giant hand had wrapped around his body and squeezed. The image, however nonsensical, sent waves of nausea crashing through her. Her anger swelled again, and the crest of it burst forth, no longer containable, and the only person she could release it on was the one who was actively lying to her.
âJames Lake, Jr. â do you think Iâm an idiot?!â
Jim froze, his hands stilling completely as he adjusted the neck of his tee. He had never heard his mother direct such cold fury at anyone, let alone himself. âW-what? Of course not, Mom. I justââ
âYou expect me to believe that you accidentally hurt yourself this badly? That you woke up one morning and you were covered in bruises? Jim, Iâm a doctor. I see people come in for less than this. I wouldnât be surprised if you have fractured ribs.â Now the anger was giving way to panic. âAnd donât think that I havenât noticed that some bruises are newer than others. This isnât something that just âhappenedâ and itâs not an accident. So tell me. Who â the â hell â did this to my son?â
A small, ridiculous surge of satisfaction bubbled up inside of her as she watched Jimâs mouth fall open. Heâd never heard his mother utter a word stronger than darn before. Sheâd always been very careful about the language she used in front of him. But his condition released something feral inside of her, and it was honestly a bit of a shock that nothing stronger came out.
She watched his face, saw the conflict in his eyes, knew with even more surety that he was hiding something big from her and trying to decide if he was going to answer truthfully. Well, tough luck. He wasnât leaving his bedroom until he answered her question.
He must have seen this in her eyes, for after a moment, he dropped his gaze. Heavily, he sat down on the foot of his bed and stared down at his hands. âMom, I⌠canât. I just canât. Iâm sorry.â
At this, the fear took center stage again, and Barbara fell to her knees in front of her son, cupping his face in her hands. The tears sheâd been holding back with such determination threatened to fall at the way he unconsciously leaned into her touch. His eyes closed briefly, and for a moment he was a child again, sniffling from a scraped knee and being comforted by his mother. That moment ended all too quickly, because his scraped knee was actually a bruised and battered torso, and he wasnât a child anymore, and he was in trouble.
âJim. Whatever is going on, I promise, I wonât be angry. But someone is hurting you. You canât deny that. What is happening to my son?â She tried not to speculate â dared not speculate â but so many possibilities chased themselves through her head, each one worse than the last. Bullies? Abusive teacher? Drugs?
He sat for a moment, a slumped, defeated statue with too much weight on his young shoulders â Young Atlas, Walterâs voice echoed in her mind. She saw the exact moment when he made his decision. He squared his shoulders, set his jaw, and met her eyes once more. Something brewed within those beautiful blue depths, but what it was she couldnât say. Was it regret? Guilt? Fear?
âIt really was an accident,â he finally said, voice slow and measured.
âJim, reallyâ!â
âIâm telling the truth, Mom!â he insisted so fervently that she was tempted to believe him. Almost.
âDo you hear how ridiculous you sound?â she demanded. âWhat kind of âaccidentâââ
âA Vespa one,â Jim blurted, and his eyes flickered down to his hands in shame. âI⌠a friend gave me a ride on his Vespa. I was on the back and got thrown off and rolled halfway down the embankment before a tree caught me right in the ribs.â
Fresh panic wormed its way into Barbaraâs mind at Jimâs confession. As horrible as it was, part of her desperately wanted to believe him. If he had been in a vehicle accident, then no one had been deliberately hurting her child. It was just his own irresponsibility and stupidity.
âWhen did this happen?â
A beat. Then, sheepishly, â... yesterday.â
But â âWhat about the older bruises, Jim? Did you get into two Vespa accidents?â
âPaintball,â Jim answered without missing a beat. âWe had a whole thing a few months back. Guys versus girls. And I got hit. A lot.â
Barbara recalled clearly the size and location of the older bruises that had peeked out from underneath the fresh, reaching ones. They could have easily been from punches or kicks, but it was feasible that the bruises could have come from being shot at close-range by a paintball gun.
Deep down, something still nagged at her. But Jimâs explanation was a sirenâs call and she was so tired of swimming.
âDo you promise me youâre telling the truth?â The gaze she fixed on him one would have withered a succulent.
Without hesitation, Jim answered, his voice clear, strong, and insistent. âYes.â
Relief flooded through her, and she squashed the last remaining doubts, perhaps a bit too eagerly. âIn that case, you are grounded.â
Jimâs eyes widened. âWhat, really? You promised you wouldnât be angry!?â
âIâm not angry, Iâm disappointed. Letâs see, you know how I feel about both paintball and those Vespas and yet you went behind my back and nearly got yourself killed. Youâve been lying to me, Jim, keeping secrets. Is this why youâve not been sleeping? Why youâve been so distant?â It didnât explain why heâd been getting into more trouble than usual, but right now she would take what she could get.
The slightest of hesitations. âYeah.â
She considered, eyes burning into him, for a long moment, then she sighed, the sound of every evil thing escaping Pandoraâs box, and she clapped her hands together briskly. âOkay, come on.â
Jim cocked his head to the side. âWhere are we going?â
âThe hospital.â
Jim groaned. âMom, Iâm okay. Iâm just bruised.â
âIâm not taking any chances, mister. You could have fractured ribs. You should have been rushed to the hospital as soon as the accident happened. Who is this friend, anyway? Why didnât he take you to the E.R.?â
Jim scratched the side of his neck. âYou wouldnât know him,â he evaded, and Barbara made a promise to herself to revisit this point later. âAnd we were afraid weâd get into troubleâŚâ
âWell, you did, kiddo. Now, get up. Weâre going to the hospital, youâre getting x-rays, and then weâre getting ice cream.â
Jim blinked up at her. She wondered if he realized his arm was curled protectively around his ribs as he slowly eased himself off the bed. âIce cream? I thought I was grounded.â
âYouâre hurt, Jim, and Iâm your mother. Iâm not a monster.â A soft smile pulled at the corners of Jimâs mouth at her words, and not wanting him to get too comfortable, she added, âYou are grounded, though. Absolutely. Youâre not going anywhere after school for at least two weeks. And depending on the x-rays, you might not be leaving your bed for a while, either.â
âMooom.â
âDonât you âmomâ me. Now, put your other shoe on. Letâs hussle. I want you looked at as soon as possible.â
What she didnât see as she turned to leave the room was the heavy curtain of guilt being drawn over Jimâs face.
Later, sheâd drive him home with a diagnosis of two cracked ribs and deep bruising across 80 percent of his torso and a bottle of muscle relaxers for the pain. Theyâd get ice cream and he would mope about bedrest and she would try to cheer him up (but not too much; he was still grounded, after all). But behind the pain of his injuries lurked a deeper, fierer ache that no balm could soothe, no medication could ease.
With every lie, he could feel the chasm widen between him and his mother, and it hurt more than a few broken ribs and bruises ever could.

The Ray Women
Ethan and Chiara visit her family in San Francisco for the first time.
Set in the renovations period between Book 2 and Book 3.
This is the fourth part of the mini series The Couple & the Others. Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 can be found here.
Words count: 4 200
Authorâs note: The final part is here! I do not think I have much to say, other than THANK YOU to Ruby @starrystarrytroubleâ for this beautiful moodboard and for reading the last part back then!
Warnings: mention of death (itâs Chiaraâs background, there is no way I could have avoided that), other than that fluff
Ethan let out a long exhale as soon as they stepped out of the airport hall and he felt the first rays of San Francisco sun on his skin.
There were several reasons why he never considered to leave Boston and its reasonable climate was most definitely big part of those reasons. Boston was... normal. Bearable. San Francisco was hot and the wind was barely there and the sun was too bright and-
He turned his head to look at Chiara and decided to snap his mouth shut before he could mutter something about the hell being colder.
Chiara, with the wide smile on her face and eyes closed, the whole face turned up to absorb as many of those annoying rays as possible, looked exactly as she should at the moment. Like she was finally home.
It was no secret that Chiara loved warm weather and complained about the one in Boston for the good part of the year (âHow does your ass not freeze in this damn city?â) and until this moment, Ethan didnât really think about it. But now, the situation was reversed and only now he realized that he would most likely never agree to live in San Francisco, because he wouldnât bear the heat.
And Chiara was undoubtedly dedicated to stay with him in Boston, even though she could hardly bear the cold.
âWhy are you staring at me?â she opened her eyes suddenly and tilted her head slightly to get a better look at Ethan.
Deciding not to get into discussion about weather and how it spoke volumes about the difference between them â especially not now, when Diana was about to come to pick them up any minute â Ethan answered with a statement that was not at all untrue.
âBecause you are beautiful.â
Chiara let out an amused laugh at that and squeezed the hand she was holding, but it didnât escape Ethanâs notice that her cheeks flushed and not from the shining sun.
The moment of silence and unspoken confessions between them was quickly interrupted by a delighted shriek coming from behind them and arms â bare arms that didnât look bare because of the tattoo sleeves decorating them, Ethan noticed - wrapped around Chiaraâs shoulders just a moment after.
âAlicia!â Chiara screamed when she turned around and hugged her sister tightly, the moment lasting long enough for Ethan to absorb the only Ray he hasnât yet had a chance to meet.
Chiara talked about her younger sister a lot ever since they agreed to visit San Francisco â or rather, she warned him about Alicia.
âShe is wild.â
âShould that surprise me?â Ethan didnât even bother to look up from his medical journal. âShe is your sister.â
âOh no, you donât get it. She is really wild. Alicia is the copy of my mother, the exact younger version of her. And she is... she is out of this world. The laws of nature do not apply to her. She is loud and gestures too much and speaks her mind too freely and she doesnât walk, she bounces and she... she is wild, Ethan.â
And it went like this for weeks. Even the flight from Boston was filled with Chiaraâs occasional âplease do not be surprisedâ and âit is who she is, it is nothing personalâ.
Ethan met Diana once before, although the circumstances were so tense they both tried to forget it. Chiara was fighting for her life and the whole hospital was fighting to find a cure in time â and Diana flew to Boston, her voice shaking and eyes wide and she pleaded, begged Ethan to save her daughter because she wouldnât survive losing another child.
Neither of them wanted the first meeting to be that way, but life had its own way in creating surprises and so Ethan knew that Chiara inherited her motherâs hair but not her eyesâ color, he knew what her voice sounded like and that she loved her children more than life.
All that Diana remembered about Ethan from those three days she spent in Boston back in November was that his voice was soothing and calm while his eyes were terrified and just as pleading as her words and that he managed to save her little girl.
Chiara didnât lie when she said that Alicia was a copy of Diana â her hair, just as Chiaraâs â were the color of a summer sky seven minutes before the sun set completely, but unlike her motherâs or sisterâs, hers were not falling on her shoulders in soft waves. Her hair were much longer, falling almost to her waist in dozens of dreadlocks. Several piercings on her face â her lower lip, her eyebrow and her nose â attracted attention and Ethan had to fight his sudden urge to ask her if the upper part of her body is hot and her feet are cold when he noticed her outfit, made of a tank top and high-waisted shorts combined with black leather boots.
She is barely 20, he kept telling himself, an obvious explanation of the difference in their points of view. And she is wild, as Chiara reminded him so many times.
âSo you must be the famous Dr. Ramsey, huh?â Alicia turned to Ethan so fast he almost didnât manage to look away from her. âNice to finally meet you... in person.â
She winked at Chiara at that, earning herself an annoyed glare from Chiara, something Ethan wasnât used to seeing often.
âEthan is just fine,â Ethan nodded, shaking Aliciaâs hand â as impossible as it felt, even smaller than Chiaraâs. âIt is very nice to meet you too, Alicia.â
Alicia didnât even try to be subtle as she took Ethan in and he tried his best to hold her gaze, to not give her any reason to doubt him as the right person for Chiara.
Finally, Alicia sighed dramatically, the sound that startled Ethan visibly, as he had not a single clue of what that sigh was supposed to mean â did he disappoint her already?
âMom was supposed to pick you up but she had some work to finish in the atelier, so she sent me.â
She turned on her heel at that and without sparing as much as another glance, led the couple to her car.
And saying that Ethan was nervous would be an enormous understatement.
*** *** ***
Whether Alicia set up some kind of test on Ethan and he passed or she was just trying to make him feel uncomfortable â knowing rather well that nobody else would â and it stopped being fun, Ethan didnât know. He knew, however, that there was no trace of tension or hostility in Aliciaâs behavior from the moment they stepped into the house.
By the time Diana came home and joined them, Ethan has seen the whole spectrum of Chiaraâs annoyed glares, along with her embarassing teen-years photos and love letters she wrote to Milo Ventimiglia when she was eleven, believing that he would read them one day.
âSheâs always had a thing for older men,â Alicia winked at Ethan at some point and part of him wanted to feel embarassed, but it took one look into Chiaraâs diary filled with Keanu + Chiara or Chiara Reeves notes and yes, Alicia was right.
Chiara has always had a thing for older men. (And he should be glad.)
Sitting in a cosy living room, Ethan didnât feel uncomfortable, not in the slightest. He felt welcomed and overly happy that he finally had something to tease Chiara with in return.
The room was bright and filled with so many photos, Ethan felt like in an art gallery for a moment. There were pictures on the ledge of a fireplace, on the walls and on every shelf. Pictures of babies and toddlers and kids, all with the same red hair and wide smiles; wedding pictures of Chiaraâs parents; pictures of a man Ethan never got to know but recognized in an instant, the greenness in his eyes so well imprinted to Ethanâs mind, as Dorianâs oldest daughter was the only child to inherit the colour.
Pictures of a happy family, of a family Ethan so long wished to have and that was took away from him at the age of eleven. With an ache squeezing his heart, he realized that Alicia was barely thirteen when the happiness of their family was taken away from her. Just a child, just as he was all those years ago.
âDorian would love to talk to you, if he was here,â Diana smiled at Ethan, breaking his thoughts.
âHe would?â
âI am sure,â she nodded, the smile not â never â leaving her face. âHe always missed a rational brain in this house â I am an artist with my body and my soul, my head always somewhere far away, ignoring the basic laws of this world. He would be so delighted to talk about science and medicine with you and I am sure by the end of your stay, he would just nod and nod and say âA good man, this oneâ, without even trying to give you the typical talk about his precious daughter deserving only the best,â she laughed at that and Ethan tried to laugh too, but the lump in his throat made the task impossibly hard.
It has been seven years in which the Ray women had to learn to live their lives without Dorian and Liam, but the way they talked about them today, with so much love and gratitude, it made Ethan feel as if they never truly left the house.
âYes, and IÂ would just ask him something like Dad, arenât you gonna fight for me?, and he would just laugh and tell me that he didnât buy Dr. Ramseyâs book all those years ago just to scare him off now,â Chiara chuckled.
After exchanging some more stories of Chiaraâs childhood, Diana decided to start cooking a dinner and just as she was leaving the room, she said: âYou kids stay here and catch up some more,â which was an innocent statement, truly, but it left Ethan feeling rather awkward â was he supposed to leave with her or did she count him as a kid too? Considering the fact that his age was closer to Dianaâs than Aliciaâs, he could hardly be sure about anything.
In the end, he stayed with the sisters that seemed like they were not physically capable of not talking, the only moment of silence falling over the room when Alicia left to make them all a coffee.
But it didnât last long and for a moment Ethan wondered if Chiara has talked that much naturally and only learned to control herself around him.
Was he changing her personality?
âI met Marc the other day,â Alicia spoke again while handing Chiara her coffee, her tone light.
Ethan felt his jaw tense at the mention of Chiaraâs ex boyfriend name and despite himself, he held his breath while waiting to see Chiaraâs reaction.
âYou did?â Chiara asked with her eyebrow raised, sipping the hot beverage slowly. âHow is he?â
âHandsome as always,â Alicia smirked, sighing dramatically again. At this point, it didnât even startle Ethan anymore. âHe still looks like Harry Styles with those long hair.â
Ethan has never heard the name Harry Styles before but seeing Chiaraâs amused grin and the way she just playfully bumped Aliciaâs shoulder with hers â and that was the only reaction she gave away at Aliciaâs description of her handsome ex â Ethan slowly, subtly took his phone out of his pocket and seeing that the Ray sisters paid him no attention, he decided to do his research on who the famous Marc resembled.
Harry Styles was... young. And rather good looking. With the dark hair and bright eyes, it would be easy to say that Chiara had a type (if Marc really look like that), but that was not enough to calm down that weirdly uncomfortable feeling that tried to raise up his throat.
Marc was as old as Chiara and it was no secret that even all those years after the break-up, the two were rather friendly. And he looked like this Harry Styles guy.
As much as Ethan hated to admit it, there was a name for that feeling, the name known to him but no, he was not-
He shouldnât feel jealous of Chiaraâs ex.
But Marc was young and handsome and did Chiara feel the need to talk less around him, less than she wanted? Did Chiara feel that need with Ethan?
This was stupid, Ethan knew. Chiara chose him and that should have been enough.
But Marc probably didnât hate San Francisoâs weather as much as Ethan did.
Ethan became so lost in his own stupid, not at all rational thoughts, that he didnât notice how Chiara left the room to help Diana in the kitchen. He only noticed Aliciaâs intense gaze on him, amused smirk on her lips and maybe there was a trait that both Ray sisters carried proudly, maybe Aliciaâs ability to observe was just as great as Chiaraâs and maybe â probably â she knew exactly what was on Ethanâs mind at that moment.
*** *** ***
âSo what do you say?â Chiara couldnât help but ask the moment she closed the door.
It was not that she wanted her mother to tease or test Ethan, but was her family really giving up on her so easily? Were they all just ready to give Ethan their blessings and wishes of luck with Chiara, without as much as making sure his intentions are pure?
It was not fair towards him, she knew. Alan has been nothing but kind and exceptionally nice to her, always. And Bryce did make Ethan sweat at the stupid brunch all those weeks ago.
Still, she just wanted to see him flush and stutter. Just once. Just for fun.
"He is as handsome as the pictures you have been sending," Diana grinned at her oldest child over her shoulder. "Maybe even more in person."
"You know that is not what I am asking," Chiara whispered, not wanting Ethan to hear the conversation. It was not that she didn't agree with her mother, but anyone could appraise Ethan's good looks. And Diana was not anyone - her opinion mattered to Chiara more than she'd like to admit.
"I know Ethan is a great man for you, darling. He makes you smile so much I can see these little wrinkles around your eyes," Diana gestured at the corner of Chiara's right eye, too close for Chiara's liking considering she was holding a knife in her hand. "For so long I have only seen dark circles around them. Anyone who can make you this happy is more than welcome in our family."
Chiara exhaled softly and watched her mom cut the vegetables, mulling over her next words in her head.
Before she could decide on what to say next, however, Diana smirked and spoke again.
"Not that I was worried. I spoke to Bryce few weeks ago. About you and Ethan. And he made it clear that your relationship is one he approves of."
âYou did what?â
It shouldnât surprise her, she knew. Bryce and Diana called each other so often at this point, Chiara was pretty sure Bryce asked Diana for an advice before his own date last time he went on one.
âYes, he called me after that lunch you all have had back in December? Or was it January? IÂ am not sure, but it was the first time Ethan joined you and your friends.â
That damn brunch.
âHe called you to let you know that he roasted Ethan already and so that you do not need to do that?â Chiara chuckled, putting her question as a joke.
âExactly!â Diana exclaimed happily and unlike her child, she was not joking.
âAnd you just... believe him?â
Diana shrugged, turning to Chiara wholly now, her smile only partly amused. Mostly soft and affectionate.
âYou know IÂ love Bryce as my own kid. IÂ know you love him as your own brother. Has Bryce ever hurt you?â
Chiara shook her head without any hestitation because no, no matter how many people did hurt her â Ethan included â Bryce never did. Never.
âHe wants you to be happy and he would never let you date anyone who wouldnât make you so. And I wouldnât either. Ethan makes you happier than I have ever seen you, Chiara, and that is all a mother needs. For her children to be happy.â
Not needing to hear more, Chiara wrapped Diana in a tight hug, tears threatening to fall from her eyes.
âAnd he looks damn good, too,â Diana whispered into her hair before any of them could start to cry.
*** *** ***
Ethan was standing at the desk in Chiaraâs old room, smiling softly at yet another photo of a wide-eyed, smiling redhead child with a hefty book in her hand. The plan for the second day of their visit was to see all of Chiaraâs favorite spots in the city.
âUhm, Ethan?â Chiaraâs voice resounded from behind his back and it was the unfamiliar hitch in it that made Ethan turn around rapidly to face her.
âYes?â
âI... this is stupid probably and I will totally get it when you wonât want to go but, uh,â she took a deep breath, her fists clenching and unclenching at her sides, tension around her almost visible.
âThere is one place IÂ want to go to before we start the day and it would mean so much to me if you wanted to go with me but it is probably very morbid from me to want you to go and-â the words left her mouth at such crazy pace they almost sounded like one very long word instead.
And suddenly, it became very clear what she was trying to say, even though she didnât know how to go on.
With two steps Ethan closed the gap between them and gently put her hair behind her ear.
âLetâs go,â was all he whispered before taking her hand and letting Chiara lead their way.
Chiara asked Ethan to give her a few minutes of solitude with her dad and brother and left him to stand under the huge oak tree while she sat down slowly, gently in front of the grave she used to visit every day.
For a long moment, she didnât even know what to say, how to start. If at all.
She just kept staring at her crossed legs, letting the tears to fall freely.
How could it be that she had the privilege to have eyes to stare with and legs to stare at, while the mere privilege to be alive was taken away from them?, she wondered.
âHi dad, Liam,â she spoke at last, her voice just above a whisper.
Ethan didn't want to eavesdrop. It was not polite, not appropriate, it was invading Chiara's privacy.
It was also impossible not to do.
The place was small and quiet and the three he was standing under was too close to the place Chiara was sitting at and what was he supposed to do, sing? Whistle?
That would hardly be any more appropriate.
And so he heard everything Chiara said and he was sure he was not meant to hear any of that.
âEthan is here with me,â he heard her say. âI wanted you to finally meet him. IÂ know the last time IÂ was here, IÂ was not overly happy about him, but he got back from the jungle and he is forgiven. So could you forget how IÂ called him an utter asshole and just... be nice?â
Ethanâs whole body tensed and a regret washed over him like an icy shower. He couldnât be anything but ashamed by the fact that Chiara already shared him at this place and that she probably hated him at the time.
âYou would love him, dad. He is so smart, like, genius smart. As smart as you were. And he respects me more than anyone has ever respected me before. You always said that if the man does not respect my career, he does not deserve me, dad and if that is true, then nobody deserves me as much as Ethan.â
He heard her chuckle and there was a long moment of silence before she spoke again and with some kind of internal terror Ethan realized that he didnât even try to stop hearing what she was saying anymore.
âAnd I am sure you would like him too, Liam. He is a great target of jokes and teasing.â
Another silence.
And then Chiara said something Ethan so desperately wished he hadnât heard, something that made him hate himself for listening and even more for what he heard and he just wanted to run away, far away and hate himself in hiding.
âYou know... IÂ cannot say this to him, because he is not very keen on this kind of things and IÂ donât want to scare him but guys, IÂ love him so much.â
*** *** ***
Chiara didnât know how many times she thanked Ethan that he visited the cemetery with her, but she was sure it was not enough to express how grateful she was.
The least she could do was to make sure that their next stop would be her absolutely most favourite coffee shop in San Francisco and Ethan would get his morning coffee just the way he liked it.
Something was off, however. Ethan was extremely quiet the whole time and even though she was used to his moods at this point, it surprised her here, today. It was kind of their vacation, their free time, something they both so desperately craved. Â
Chiara could see that he was lost in his thoughts, brows furrowed and his gaze pointed somewhere behind the window. And doubts started overtaking her, because of course it was too much to take him to meet her dead father and brother. It would be too much for everyone.
Before she could decide on how to apologize for dragging him there, Ethan beat her to it and spoke first, although his gaze was still pointed elsewhere.
âI must apologize.â
Only then he turned to her and her confused raised eyebrow was the push he needed to finish the thought.
âFor-â he stopped, biting his cheek, mulling over his next words and by the expression on his face, even those he speaks next are not the ones he wished to find. âFor making you feel like you cannot express yourself when you are with me.â
âOh?â Chiara shook her head slightly, her confusion growing even bigger at the odd statement.
Ethan exhaled, suddenly aware of the place being rather empty. There were no groups of teenagers, no kids, nobody that would muffle his words and his wild heartbeat.
âI overheard some of the things you said to your dad back then,â he admitted slowly, softly, quietly and he was not proud of himself for not even trying to not to overhear it.
The confusion in Chiaraâs eyes was quickly replaced by comprehension and just after that, panic.
âOh,â this time, the sigh that left her was full of understanding.
It all clicked now. It all made sense and Chiara so desperately wished it didnât, because she loves him and he heard and now he is scared.
She tried to come up with a response that would make everything make sense, her head starting to hurt from the pressure she put on her brain to just come up with something, damnit.
Chiara opened her mouth several times without any sound leaving it and she was internally panicking and Ethan was not even looking at her.
 Until suddenly he was.
âI love you too,â he blurted out, the words a little bit slurred.
The third âohâ that left Chiaraâs was so soft, had there been the teenagers or the kids, Ethan would have missed it. But he didnât.. He heard it and it took all of the air of his lungs away, because it was almost nothing, mere two letters and yet they carried such meaning it made his throat tighten.
âYou do?â she whispered at last.
âYes, I do.â
âAnd it doesnât scare you?â
âGod,â Ethan laughed, pulling her closer to him and putting a long, lingering kiss on her forehead. âIt scares me more than anything has ever scared me before.â
Chiara laughed softly, her warm breath tickling Ethanâs neck and she pulled away just enough to tilt her head and look at him and in her eyes, those emerald greens, so warm, so soft, so beautiful, Ethan saw more than Chiara could say at the moment, in those depths he saw that this woman, his Chiara, his light, loved him more than anyone has ever loved him before and it warmed his chest in a way he didnât recognize and it was that moment when he knew.
There was one thing that scared him more than love. Than being loved and loving Chiara.
Losing Chiara.
And he knew it then, he knew he would fight his fears of that unknown warm feeling every day, every second of those days until it didnât scare him anymore, because losing Chiara was not an option. Not anymore, not ever.

Chapter 3 is finally here. Sorcerers need their shopping done, too. Beyonce/Wong platonic ship (joking)! And finally some action, more witchy stuff. Bucky whump because I have a saviour complex. Stucky cuteness moment. Some blood/gore in this chapter.
My insides clenched, seeing the yellow and blue notice taped to my door - the building manager rarely left notes, so whatever it was, it wasn't going to be good. I had managed to wind myself up into an anxious frenzy by the time I had gone inside and locked my door behind me, immediately thinking I would have to exhaust myself by turning to magic to keep a roof over my head.
For once, the news turned out to be positive: a neighbor was being evicted and turned in to the police for stealing packages. The building manager urged the tenants to report any missing items and apply for a refund when possible, apologizing for the inconvenience. I wondered what prompted this, basically unheard of in NYC, act of kindness as my altar stared at me with mocking amusement, pointing out the obvious by its mere presence.
Grinning to myself, I texted Odette - predictably, she was happy for me, happy that my protection spell had turned out strong and steady, and added a few tips of her own for my spell to stay that way. It felt like I'd grown invisible wings, those days, with all the possibilities open - and never once did I let myself entertain a thought of getting back at an enemy of the past for longer than five seconds.
Sure, it was perfectly human to consider making the cheating ex go bankrupt or make sure the college professor, that failed a couple of students each semester as a 'reality check', trips and face-plants at least once a day... I mean, who wouldn't experience a malicious sort of joy from petty revenge?
But I found my powers were best applied with a positive result in mind. My friend's cat was the first test rat- I mean, living creature I had practiced my healing spells on. The eleven year old kitty was struggling and both me and my friend loved the critter dearly - so the short, but tiring spell I performed yielded exactly the results I was expecting. Odette said something about genuine love backing up the magic, and- well, Dumbledore much?
On humans, it turned out, it wasn't nearly as simple. I didn't know what I had expected would happen after performing nothing short of a whole improv-performace type of ritual right in front of my very puzzled but hopeful friend with chronic asthma, but it wasn't the sheer exhaustion that ran bone-deep and left me bedridden for a whole day.
Odette visited my dingy apartment with her signature enormous purse full of vials she spoon-fed me and trinkets she strategically placed in and around my immediate sleeping area. "There, there," the woman patted my head as I pitifully moaned at the ear-splitting headache. "The first one is always the most challenging. After all, if it would be easy, everyone would do it."
I understood that. But at the same time, it felt unfair that no good deed went unpunished. I told Odette so, raising my voice to the best of my ability as she rummaged around my kitchen.
"Nothing in this world comes out of thin air, whatever you decide to give has to be taken from somewhere," she explained patiently. "People like us are considered hedge witches. We do solitary work and draw most of our energy from the Earth, from mother Nature. We cannot perform miracles, however, the cost of our spells are very low," I felt an immediate peak of interest at the simple yet effective explaination she gave me. "We remain mostly human. Gaia* is kind and generous to the ones who pay respect," Odette continued over the clatter of pans and pots. "There are other kinds of witches - who take from other people, who take from the dead. But taking something by force always leaves scars and taking something from the dead means bringing a piece of them back to places it should not be."
I pondered the words as Odette brought the kettle to a boil, the whistling shriek piercing through my skull like a sharp projectile. "What about Voodoo practitioners?" I couldn't hold back my curiosity.
Odette cleared her throat. "What is left of them is mostly not human. Their gifts are great but the costs are greater. They can live far, far longer than the average witch but their souls will know no peace, just like the souls of the dead they anchor to themselves over time," Odette entered the room with a bowl of tangy, creamy liquid that smelled like pumpkin soup. "We do not bestow any judgement upon our brothers and sisters but it is our duty to inform the young." She cast a pointed glance towards me, passing me the soup and a wooden spoon I didn't know I had. "This should help you recover. Take tomorrow off if needs be."
She left shortly afterwards and I hadn't much strength than to use the bathroom, wash the rune-engraved spoon and curl up in my bed, only waking up when the meager light shone over my face from the window. Sleepy and fog-tinted, the early morning NYC was damp and windy as I stuck my head out of the window to soak my sleep-heated head in the cool air.
As uneventful as the day at the cafĂŠ was, I still wasn't up to 100% energy-wise, but the long walk from Jeremy's to Odette's was pleasantly invigorating. I didn't find the cold autumn moisture displeasing; the small raindrops kept me awake and alert. Odette nodded in muted pleasure as I clocked in and returned the special spoon back to her. The runes on it were interesting; I had taken a picture of them for research purposes, fully intending to craft myself something similar.
"Odette has taken on an apprentice," Wong's voice had me take in several deep breaths in preparation for the inevitable fuck-fest on my patience. "She has been avoiding me. And the girl is painfully slow."
I didn't hear the answer of Wong's companion over the rustling of the boxes I was hastily shoving in their places before the Asian man's temper grew foul. More foul. Ugh. The sharp ding of the bell had me yelling a, "Just a second please, I'll be right with you," while trying to keep my tone polite.
Wong's sour face and a list of items required greeted me as I flew out of the backrooms, noticing the locked doors of Odette's office on my way out. Wong's companion stood at the far end of the store - his robes quite different from the ones I'd seen people of their kind wear, his lithe, tall figure seeming strangely familiar. I squinted my eyes at his back. "Is this all you need?" I waved the list around, increasing the volume of my voice.
The tall man turned around and I could only gape. He, in turn, also froze, the stern, unfriendly expression losing heat and giving way to perplexed wonder. "I had placed an order, for sorcerer Strange," Tony's boyfriend eyed me somewhat sheepishly under Wong's concerned gaze.
I nodded, eyeing Wong in turn, letting satisfaction nestle a warm ball in my chest. Stephen's look of displeasure had turned onto his... Colleague. By the time I finished retrieving Strange's order and packing up the items on Wong's list, the Asian man had left, leaving Stephen to sheepishly pretend to examine the books on the furthest shelf. I waved the paper bags as he took long strides towards me, his fancy, large necklace glimmering under the lights.
"So, how long have you been working here?" Sorcerer Strange asked after I told him the total.
The cash register beeped loudly, coins clattering on the desk as I counted out his change. "Some time now," I shrugged noncommittally. I felt his magnetic eyes gloss over my adornments, the star necklace, the various rings; I could practically feel him coming to his own conclusions. "Long enough for your colleague to get an attitude with me," I had to make sure he knew I would be taking no bullshit from him - or anyone else, for that matter. Odette's opinion on his kind was firm and I was heavily inclined to agree.
"Hmm, I see," Strange was equally as keen on hiding his curiosity. It was a funny thing, really, that we, being adults that we were, treated this encounter like some sort of a dirty secret. "Don't take it personally. Wong is like that with everyone," The man briefly scratched his beard with a gloved hand before pocketing his change and picking up the bags. "Except Beyoncè, maybe," the wink he threw me was positively mischievous as it caught me off-guard, giving him a fox-like appearance.
I sighed as the door shut behind him. Pretty white boys - the ultimate human disasters.
I had no time to dwell on them, however, as something - or someone, hit downtown with all the malicious intentions to wreak havoc on the innocent civilians calmly going about their day. Mutants and people who knew Odette came in hordes, scrapes and bruises and strange wounds that required imminent healing.
My boss was no rookie, she dutifully accepted each and every single soul, looking worse for wear with each minute. Not being able to withstand seeing her drain herself, I simply took over the simplest tasks - and she said nothing, just gave me a nod, instructed to use whatever I needed and write it down somewhere along with the name of the person who required the healing.
As the battle raged, the crowds thinned but the ones who managed to come to Odette's spouted more serious wounds, obviously a result of them fighting back. Mutants covered head to toe with coats and hats and robes, for me to swallow my shock when they undressed - horns, tails and weird skin textures were on the far end of the normal. I dutifully extracted small pieces of information from each and every person I treated.
Yes, the Avengers were winning. No, there aren't many people hurt, most of the damage is cosmetic. Yes, the villain of the week is as stupid as usual. It was like a mantra. Odette poked her head into the spare room every now and then, her eagle eyes briefly scanning over me to make sure I wasn't exterting myself.
As I applied the healing salve to a tiny, pink-skinned woman, bandaging up her hands, my boss entered and closed the door behind her, setting down on the creaky chair with a loud thud. "Just got the news, the Avengers apprehended the terrorist," she sighed long and slow. "We've done all we could, the next few days I'll be handling house calls so you'll be here on your own. I'll probably see you in a few days, don't hesitate to give me a call if something comes up," Odette seemed to be barely standing up, yet when she tore off a few pieces of her jewelry and chucked them into a big tin can under the sink, the glossy sheen in her eyes melted away.
"Okay," I mumbled under the watchful eyes of the mutant woman. "Will there be more people coming in today?"
"No," the woman in front of me snorted. "SHIELD is prowling the streets. They are not fond of us, they always say we intervene unnecessarily even though we willingly do their dirty work so our children could be safe," the bitter, harsh tone took me off-guard.
I had to admit, there was reason behind her words. "Will you be able to get home safely? I have a puffy coat and a hat you can borrow." Figuring an expensive taxi ride would be a better alternative to something terrible happening to the woman, I offered her my winter clothes.
She smiled at me, razor blade teeth and large, red eyes the kindest I'd ever seen on a person. In the end, she took the clothes, promising to bring them back in a few days and Odette gave me a parka that was too small for her frame - despite it smelling like someone's grandma's attic, I found it to be quite lovely vintage. The puffy knitted scarf she added felt like warmth and safety - she had to have knitted it herself, for I knew, handmade items carried a significant amount of energy in them.
The shop was eerily quiet as I cleaned and scrubbed the stained, dirty floors and disposed of the bloody clothes and bandages in the tiny, odd fireplace in Odette's office - that was a thing most peculiar, it burned everything I put in it, but had no chimney, no place for the smoke to exit. Magic.
Something banged loudly against the entrance door. I let out a startled shriek, broomstick falling out of my hand and adding to the sudden cacophony of noise as the figure behind the stained glass slowly slid down the door, a deep, male voice groaning something incomprehensible loud enough for me to hear.
Grabbing a large serrated knife we used for mincing the bones of small animals, I made quiet steps towards the door, seeing a large, obviously humanoid figure helplessly lean on the door. The man's arm glinted chrome black and gunmetal grey in the low light. "Sargent Barnes? Bucky?" I whisper-shouted, carefully plying open the door.
He lifted his head, blood dripping down from it, his face looked like someone went to town on it with a meat mullet, his eyes were unfocused and couldn't keep a straight line. His flesh arm leaned heavily on the door frame, the prosthetic hanging limply, dragging his whole body to its side. It must've weigh a ton.
"ĐŻ дОНМон наКŃи капиŃана РОдМоŃŃĐ°," he whispered.
I didn't understand Russian at all but I could make out the name of his boyfriend. Which made sense. Bucky looked severely concussed - I idly wondered what exactly they had been fighting, what could have given a freaking super-soldier such a brain-leaking injury. "Sargent Barnes, follow me," I put on my big girl shoes and used my momma bear voice, towing the man behind me.
He, too, weighed a ton, as I stumbled, helping him into the chair in the spare room that became my healing station for today. The longer I looked at Bucky, the less lucid he grew, eyes falling shut as he murmured something in jagged Russian, slurring his words.
There was no time to think about the consequences of exposure of my witchcraft; mortar and pestle, herbs and salves flying everywhere, I assembled a healing spell and memorized the according ritual in what felt like record time. He was bleeding all over the chair, fresh crimson blood pouring out of his nose and mouth and it was all I could see.
I hadn't known true terror until the blood that poured out turned black. Whatever it was in him, it was poisonous - my protection charms grew hot, scalding as they left marks on my skin; powering through the pain and unable to turn my eyes off the convulsing Barnes, I finished the chant just as the flow of vile, tar-like liquid suddenly ceased. It pooled around his feet, dripped down the armrests and matted his long hair. It reeked, too, of copper and putrid meat.
Bucky had passed out somewhere mid-spell, the slow, steady breathing bringing me my own sense of calm. To say that I was drained would be an understatement - my vision swam and my world spun on it's axis as I unlocked Odette's office to messily rummage through a cabinet for the emergency tonic I knew she kept there. I chugged the vial, an avalanche of almost anxious, jittery energy hit me like a freight train - exactly what I needed.
I bought myself a couple hours of time. Cleaning up the sludge around Bucky's feet and removing the outer parts of his gear was easy as he remained as relaxed as a cooked spaghetti noodle. The amount of weapons he had on him was impressive, but those weren't what I was looking for - his phone. It was dead, so I plugged it in, waiting for the 5% to show and bringing it to his fingertips, hoping he used the print recognition instead of the password option... And I lucked out.
"Hello, this is Star, I found a Bucky. Tell Dr. Strange to come get him, he knows where I am." I texted the "Stevie â¤ď¸" contact, my inner fangirl self squealing at the dorky name of his boyfriend's contact in Bucky's phone. Shortly afterwards, I went ahead and snapped a picture of myself next to sleeping Bucky, figuring out some actual proof wouldn't do any harm in this bizarre situation.
The answer didn't let me wait long. "10 minutes" came the first text, and shortly afterwards - "Is Bucky okay??????". I had to snort at the amount of question marks before honestly replying "He will be âşď¸" and putting the phone back in Bucky's pocket. I cleaned up and attempted to lift Bucky up, succeeding in waking him up into a half-lucid state, probably courtesy of decades of training and whatnot, to at least drag him to the front of the store. I wasn't particularly comfortable with strangers seeing the backrooms.
Bucky leaned with his back against the counter, ass flat on the floor and a towel with a cold compress pressed to his head when the doors all but flew open, revealing Captain Rogers, still in uniform and Stephen Strange, arguing with his boyfriend, both still suited up and bloody and grimy.
"Uhh," I blinked owlishly, causing the men to stop bickering and stare first at me, then at Bucky. "I think he hit his head," I offered weakly, backing up slightly at the amount of burning eyes staring at me.
"Shortcake, that you?" Tony's eyebrows rose as he surveyed the bodega, the items on the shelves, the black and red blood stains on my previously pristine, yellow shirt.
"Now is not the time, Tony. Go with Rogers, make sure the medical is prepared for Barnes and disable his arm," Strange barked out authoritatively, shooting me a puzzled but compassionate look. "The portal is open. I'll talk to Star, find out what happened." He advanced towards me as Captain picked up Bucky bridal-style as tenderly as he could while making sure the compress stayed on.
"Keep that tone fo the bedroom," Tony's voice was more than displeased as he shot me and Strange a hurt look, but followed Steve into the golden circle right outside the door before it sparked shut.
"Now, now, what happened here?" The sorcerer's voice lowered into a soothing drawl as I let out the breath I didn't know I was holding. My shoulders sagged, fingers twitching with anxious energy. The man extended a gloved hand, briefly squeezing my shoulder. "It's alright, take your time."
Damn, did I look that bad?

Part One Part Two Part Three Part Four Part Five
Master List HERE! Â Â Permanent Tag List HERE!
A continuous beeping roused you. The noise, though not loud, pierced your skull. It was a repeated noise, one that wouldnât stop, and that is what frustrated you. You were tired and your body ached, you just wanted to go to sleep. In the second between each beep, your mind seemed to lull before being roused again.
You werenât going to get any rest.
Instead, you open your eyes, only to immediately close them when the harsh lighting burns. You let out a quiet moan before opening your eyes again, blinking against the harsh light in an attempt to get your eyes to adjust.
Slowly, everything comes into focus and you can see again. The ceiling above you is a clear white and when you looked to your side, thereâs a window where you can see the blue sky. It was an incredible sight to see and you couldnât help the emotion climbing through your chest. Your breath stuttered, and then you were releasing gentle sobs as you stared at the sky.
Part of your mind said that you were reacting stupidly, but you ignored it. You never thought you would never see the sky again. You would prefer to be outside and seeing it, with a gentle breeze blowing through your hair, but this was a sight you were grateful for.
You had thought that you would never see the sky again, only the cold, grey concrete. But there it was, just outside the window, fluffy white clouds floating by. You had never taken the time to look at the sky before but now, laying there, it was so beautiful.
âY/N, youâre awake. Youâre crying!â a voice said, catching your attention and pulling your gaze from the window. âAre you in pain? Shall I get a doctor?â
âIts okay, Iâm okayâ you assured Penelope, giving her a watery smile. âI never thought Iâd see the sky again⌠or you.â
Your arm is heavy, but you reach towards her. Her own hand quickly darts for your own, grasping it tightly and rubbing her thumb over the back. Its so good to see her. Though her eyes were red from tears, she still radiated light. Seeing her sent a surge of warmth through you and your tears came down faster.
âIâm so glad youâre hereâ you told her, squeezing her hand with as much strength as you could.
âOf course, Iâm here!â she shook her head, as if you thinking otherwise was ridiculous. âThe others would be here too, but Hotch made them go, especially Reid. He was so worried about you, Y/N, you should have seen him. Iâm sure heâll be back soon.â
âWhat are you doing here then?â you ask her, your eyebrows furrowed.
âI couldnât leave you on your own. Plus, someone has to keep everyone else up-to-dateâ she replied. âActually, Reid and Morgan wanted to stay with you too but Hotch ordered them outâŚâ
âmmmâ you murmured. You shifted slightly, finding a more comfortable spot on the hard hospital bed but let out a groan when a jolt of pain shoots through your chest.
âWhat are you doing? Stopâ Penelope orders, hoping to her feet to readjust you and alleviate the pain.
âWhat was verdict?â you question, sighing as you relaxed into the pillows which now supported your neck better.
âYouâre lucky to be here. The knife hit bone, deflecting from your heartâ she replied, her voice quiet as she didnât want to scare you. âThey said youâre going to be okay though, soâŚthatâs good!â
âHow long was I gone for, how long did he have me?â you questioned. âWhat happened to him?â
âHeâs gone, Hotch shot him after he stabbed youâ she told you gently. âHe had you for two days.â
âTwo days?!â your eyebrows flew up, your voice raising. âHe had me for two days? It only felt like a few hoursâŚâ
âIâm sorry it took so long to get you outâ she apologised.
âIts okayâ you told her.
You give her a tired smile, squeezing her hand when she sniffled. Penelope was such a gentle soul. She was the heart of the team, she cared for you all with more love than you thought it was possible for one person to have. Of course, Penelope would be here when you woke up. She was there for everyoneâs awakening when they had stint in the hospital.
 -
When you wake up next, youâre not as annoyed at the beeping. It showed that you were alive, how could you be annoyed at that? You laid with your eyes closed for a few more minutes, breathing in the sterile air which, while unpleasant, was a gift in itself.
Upon finally opening your eyes, you see Spencer. He sits slouched in the hospital chair, his left ankle resting on his right knee. His right arm holds up a book, eyes scanning the pages with his usual speed, while his left elbow sits on the arm of his chair, his finger pressed against his lips. He hadnât noticed you yet and you took the time to take him in properly.
There was a reason why Derek called Spencer âPretty Boyâ. He fit the nickname perfectly with dark eyes, high cheekbones, and a jaw line which you could cut yourself on. His long hair, which he had grown out and cut a lot through out the years, was tucked behind his ears.
You had been sure that you were going to die, that youâd never see him again. The relief that rushed through your chest stole your breath away. Spencer was here, in front of you. You wanted to reach out for him, to hold his hand and to confess your deepest secret but you couldnât.
He looked so lovely sitting in that horrid green waiting chair. You had always enjoyed watching him read, you found it amusing how quickly he could get through a book. He would never just skim the pages, though thatâs what most people thought he did, but heâd get fully invested and distracted from the world around him. You couldnât blame him; the pages of his book were no doubt better than the world around him.
It didnât take him long to finish the book. He closed it with a sigh, scrunching his eyes shut and running his hand over his face. If the large yawn was anything to go by, he was tired.
âSomeone hasnât been sleepingâ you observed, your voice dry and raspy.
âOh, hey, youâre awake!â he smiled, quickly reaching for the water on the bedside table. You smiled gratefully, taking small sips as he continued to talk. âHotch banned me from the hospital last night, so I got a few hours. Iâm sorry I wasnât here when you woke up before.â
âItâs okayâ you reassure him with a smile. âYouâre here now.â
Your hand took him, your fingers slotting together with his. It felt so good to touch him, to feel his skin against your own. Your hand tingled, electricity travelling up your arm in a pleasant way. You had missed him in the two days you had been gone.
âYou saved me; you knowâ you smiled gently at him. âThere was a maze⌠I didnât know how I was going to solve it but then I remembered Halloween.â
âRight hand?â he asked, leaning towards you.
âRight handâ you confirmed. âI also had to pick a lock⌠I remember you teaching me how to do it with hair grips.â
It was quiet for a moment before he sniffled, âIâm sorry I didnât come over to yours, or that I didnât meet you. Iâm sorry we didnât get to you earlier, before he did⌠thisâ he indicated your injuries, looking you over sadly.
âIts not your fault Spence, none of it isâ you assured him. âI was scared, you know. Not of dying, well actually it was of dying, but there was something else⌠I was scared Iâd never see you again.â
His eyes softened and he seemed to melt at your words. Spencer was often an awkward man who didnât know how to express his emotions but you could always read his expressions. A little smile pulled at the corner of his lips as he watched you, his thumb rubbing over the back of your hand.
âI-â he coughed, clearing his throat. His voice was a little higher in pitch when he next spoke, indicating his nerves. âI was scared too. I was scared that I, that we, would never get you back. Those two days⌠it felt like forever and⌠I hated it.â
âYou have me back, nowâ you told him, squeezing his hand. âI⌠I have to tell you something though.â âOkayâ he nodded, leaning forward to listen to you.
âWhen I was in there, when I thought I wasnât going to make it out, I realised that if I died, my feelings would die with me. They would disappear without ever being acknowledgedâ you began slowly. You paused, taking a moment to draw in a deep breath. âI⌠I like you, Spencer. In fact, I think Iâm in love with you.â
Spencer stared at you, his pretty pink lips open in disbelief. It was as if he was struggling to understand what you had said to him. It was okay, you told yourself, that he reacted in such a way. Finding out your best-friend liked you would be a shock one would not be prepared for.
Though your heart wanted to believe otherwise, your mind told you that Spencer didnât feel the same about you. Thatâs okay too. He didnât have to reciprocate your feelings. You just hoped that he would still want to be your friend after finding out.
You had to tell him how you felt. Being so close to death, it made you realise how many things you hadnât done because you were scared. This was one of those things, telling Spencer your feelings. It was probably the biggest thing, the one you were most scared of. However, you couldnât keep it to yourself. It was worth the risk of total rejection. Tell him, it felt like a weight had been lifted off your chest.
âI like you too. In fact, I think Iâm in love with youâ he repeats with a gentle smile.
He leans forward, gently placing a kiss on your cheek. This doesnât need to be rushed, there was no countdown anymore. You both had time to explore your relationship together, and you looked forward to it.Â
A/N: This is, potentially, the last chapter. However, if you do want me, let me know and I might whip something up.
