KYLE CROUSE: Here's a question from rabbithaver! "I love that nearly all the Mobians in this universe are like, 3'6" on average. I just want to pick them up and hug them. So how would the cast react to being picked up and called adorable by a random human in our world? Especially Team Sonic, the Chaotix, and Silver & Blaze." [chuckles] That's assault!
youtube
IAN FLYNN: Sonic would tolerate it briefly. "Haha, alright, you're a big fan, that's cool, time to let go." KYLE: Mhm. IAN: Uh, Tails would be incredibly bashful about it, but wouldn't be able to like, fight against it because he wouldn't want to hurt anybody's feelings or be insulting. Amy would be kind of- likewise, flustered, and if it lingers a little too long, she'll go from flustered, to a little impatient, to possibly violent. KYLE: [laughs] IAN: Knuckles... it depends. If it's like, a small child or one of them lady types, he might actually kind of endure and be kind of flustered, and not know what to do. 'Cause he doesn't know how to handle the ladies, and he's not gonna punch a kid. KYLE: What?! Why not?! IAN: He's a good guy! KYLE: [laughing] Oh, okay, fine. IAN: Now, anyone who doesn't fall into those two categories? No, you're getting punched right then and there. KYLE: [chuckling] He'll punch a bat lady, though! IAN: Eh, if she steals his stuff, but the minute she does anything remotely flirtatious, he just doesn't know what to do. KYLE: I mean, same, but still! [laughs] IAN: [chuckles] Uh, Charmy would be all like, "yay hugs!" KYLE: Yeah. IAN: Espio would be extremely uncomfortable, but- KYLE: And go invisible. IAN: -just kind of endure it, he- yeah! [laughs] Just turn invisible and hope they think he's gone. "I can still feel you, you know." [annoyed groans as Espio] KYLE: [laughs] IAN: Uh, Vector's a good bit taller than everybody else, but- KYLE: Yeah, he's like, human height! Or maybe even a little taller. IAN: Pretty close. So, I don't know... Vector strikes me as the type of guy as- if he sees that dude at a convention, trying to be all creep-o with the sign, "free hugs," he'll take that hug. KYLE: Yeah, he'll do it! IAN: He'll teach that guy a lesson. [Vector voice] "Hey, I love free stuff! Come here!" KYLE: [cackling laughter] IAN: Uh, Silver's in the same boat as Tails and Espio. He's just gonna be a flustered puddle of, "I don't know what to do." He's probably starved for touch, considering his timeline. KYLE: [chuckles] Poor Silver. IAN: [Silver voice] "Physical contact that doesn't involve applying a tourniquet! Wow!" KYLE: [chuckling] Aw! IAN: Blaze will not have it. KYLE: Blaze is not interested, no! IAN: No, no, no, no. She will not be violent, but she will not humor it. No, Sir. KYLE: No, no... you're gonna get burned a little. Just enough, just enough to put that fear in 'ya. [laughs] Oh, man. And Big! Big's like, [Big the Cat voice] "Okay!" IAN: [Big the Cat voice] "Yay, hugs!" KYLE: [Big the Cat voice] "Yay!" IAN: You're not really hugging Big, so much as pressing yourself to him. KYLE: Yes, yes. IAN: If you have the wingspan to hug Big, I don't know what you are, but you ain't human. KYLE: [laughing] It's very comfy. It's like- it's like, uh, hugging a Snorlax. IAN: A beanbag chair that smells of fish. KYLE: Hugging a Snorlax... [laughing] Aw, man. Alright, I think that's enough.

At The Mobian Beach
Closed with @padthedemon
Continued from here
It did seem like a beach celebration, one Pad had not expected. One moment, he had taken a nap at his spot, towel underneath him, beach umbrella blocking the sun, only for him to wake up to a party around him. With Mobians he had heard of since some of them had saved the world who knows how many times, to some with a more infamous fame to their name and some who he didn’t know at all. There seem to be one human looking woman who had most of her body buried in the sand and was doing her best to move her head to avoid being hit with what looked like a giant hammer they looked like it had to be a fake hammer…….right? They were all also..in some rather from fitting bikinis. He noticed someone in particular but it was because she wasn’t with the main group. Her green fur stood out and she seems much more….wild compared to the rest of them. His curiosity got the better of him as he stood up and decided to approach her. “Hey, did I miss something? I was asleep and next thing I know this is happening. Are you with the party?” This was his attempt at small talk as he wasn’t really sure what to say. This was also when he noticed how much shorter Mobians were compared to humans.
"Yes and no, kinda." Surge the Tenric shrugged as she casually looked out at the beach around them "Some big old boss fight for the sake of the world happened. Good guys and bad guys teamed up. Those dumb Chaos Emeralds where used and the day was saved."
She was definitely an average Mobian height, which was around three foot or so. Even the rabbit woman on the beach, a clear mother based off the smaller and less curvy twin nearby than was also clearly half the taller ones age, only reached about four and a half foot tall.

TAILS
I headcanon Tails will outgrow everyone in the crew when he grows up. And because humans are naturally taller than most mobians, Tails will be taller than an average human with the same age as him.
He has Astraphobia, because no one ever teached him or went through with him when a thunderstorm appeared. He was naturally scared and now it has become a phobia.
He can play violin and guitar very well. Loves to listen to classical music while he is working.
He loves meat related foods! He can cook but not so well. Seeing it like some kind of creating new things like his inventions with new ingredients. So he likes it and doesn’t get bothered or tired/bored. He sometimes gets lost in it and makes a mess and some non-edible food. He decided to leave more complicated foods to professionals and stayed on to mixing chemicals only. He’s better at that. He lives alone so he had to know chores and such. But probably created a helper to make them deal with it so he can spend more quality time on his inventions.
I feel like there is more to Tails' past than we think. I headcanon he ran away from an orphanage trying to give him to ‘uncaring’ parents and he is tired of that. And maybe in those times he didn't like to talk much. Mostly because he doesn't see the need for it. He ran away from his village, from his bullies and uncaring, cruel glares, and built a treehouse for himself. After building that house, and constant stealing to survive and then trying to forget those hated memories he met Sonic. And after he grows up he forgets most of it because of the trauma.
I've been in an orphanage for as long as I can remember. I couldn't warm up to anyone no matter how many times I tried, I was always left behind and excluded.
I felt uneasy all the time. It felt like someone was going to come and shout at me any moment. That's why I always did the activities I liked in secret, afraid they were going to take them away from me too. The kids there were always so mean, always ostracized me because of my look, always destroying what I'm trying to do; like puzzles, books, small machines.
I was the youngest there most of the time. Even when I wasn't, when a new kid came, they were always chosen for a family, while I was always in the background. No one ever chooses me nor looks at my way. Even the caretakers were avoiding looking at my face, giving me what I needed and leaving. That's when I learned to take care of myself.
One day, to my surprise, a family adopted me. I thought that I would be happy with this situation and the hope once melted away, once again would bloom, but it didn't happen. The caregivers said I should be grateful for this and accused me of being ungrate. Maybe I was. I always dreamed that my life would be better if I had a real family, but it didn't. What did real family mean anyway? The people who loved you no matter what? The people who raised you or gave birth to you? What do friends actually mean? What does home mean? Is the place you call home where you were born? Or is it a place where you can be happy and peaceful?
None of these was what I saw and felt. I never knew.
The family I was given never took the chance to look after me, instead they kept arguing, and in the end, I couldn't stand it and ran away.
My life didn't get any better but at least I was free from the authority of adults. The bullying never stopped and I had to find somewhere to live in the time being as well as to steal things to live one more day -I also needed to avoid incase the orphanage hunted me down or the police- But no one seemed to notice my disappearance nor cared….. So it was all good? That was what I thought at least. But it wasn't what I really felt. I wanted to know how being loved felt like. I always envy those lucky kids with loving parents but I knew that was never going to happen to me. So there is no need to hope or dream for this anymore.
When I turned 8 my life was starting to come down, I was trying so hard to not lose it and clutch one hope that has been helping me to stay sane, wanting to taste the feeling of being loved. One day to be noticed… I have already finished reading all the books in the library nearby. And one day I wanted to do something for this world too. An invention that could leave a mark forever. Or a building or a book. I didn't want to just live like a ghost as a nobody.
And one day, my prayers answered when I met Sonic. Until that day I never once talked, finding nothing important/interesting to say nor I ever imagined someone would care to listen to what I had to say.
"Hey, little guy. What's your name?"
Tails thought about this, he knew in his documents at the orphanage that his real name was Miles Prower, but they called him Tails soooo many times that it had become so natural to him, he knew that was a nickname to ‘joke’ about his obvious difference but he didn’t care anymore. Till that day he was carrying that mutated tail of his as a burden but he never once could have imagined he would be so proud to have it, seeing it as a gift instead of an embarrassment after meeting Sonic. He knew who he was. Of course, he heard his heroism among the villagers and quickly became a fan himself. His actions were inspiring, he wished he could be more like him.
He stopped himself from using his real name a long time ago, seeing it didn’t change anything, even making it worse, they all bullied him about it too of course. When he was using it, everyone was making fun of it. He smiled, thinking that this nickname would be a more 'safe' and 'compatible' option. He was excited to finally meet a ‘hero’. Despite being insulted throughout his entire life, Tails has never lost his kindness and thoughtfulness. But he wouldn't be able to stand it if his idol also makes fun of it… so he needs to be quiet about some facts about himself. The thing he is so bad at, being quiet about something. What a big mouth he has….
For the first time, he felt hope. The kind eyes and the soft touches of his idol gave him the courage he had been lacking; his tails wagging, posture upright like a soldier, he was having a hard time holding himself back from bouncing in his feet, "My name’s Tails!" he finally shouted happily.
I think Tails becomes really nervous with his own tails around Sonic more often then he notices (back when they first met I mean, before Sonic kept encouraging him about them. He is actually always doing it ,on purpose or not, but not that often after he notices his lack of courage about them. Sonic loves that kid like a little brother there is no doubt about it. And he will forever praise him with every chance he gets) in some point nearly hating their existence but also afraid to lose them because you know, they are a part of him (would you like to cut a finger dear friend?), even tho he hates the thought.
When Tails first moved into Sonic's home (I headcanon Sonic at least owns one but never even takes his minutes to actually design or live in there. He doesn't even sleep in there. "I mean why sleep in a claustrophobic box instead of sleeping in an open field full of flowers and butterflies?" He eats outside all the time too even without paying lmao. The citizens know his heroic act and they want to return the favor by giving him anything he wants without asking for the return, even though Sonic feels bad about not giving what they deserve for their hard work, like money. He agrees in the end, without any choice to be given. He won't get a job and work, after all that’s not him. Yeah…. I do save their life all the time so I guess that works too? But he never does that so he can go around and get whatever he wants for free.) So Tails takes the action to start designing the house. That's something he is best at afterall. But when Sonic comes to check up on him. He didn't like the view he saw. At all.
He swallows a chilidog and cooly spoke, "Dude, why did you design the house like this?"
Tails fidget with his hands, ears dropping, "Oh, um… don't you like it? It's your main color, I thought-"
"That's the whole point! I LOVE IT! But I shouldn't love it this much."
Tails was really confused, "Huh… why?"
After finishing his chili he grips his shoulders with a serious smile, "Tails, this is your house. You should design it, with your own color, whatever you desire. Maybe add your signature look or design a logo with your two tails. Show what makes you unique!! Maybe open the garage and start working on your mecanic/science stuff in there! Stop thinking about what others would love and start thinking about what you love to do!"
Tails was bewildered but more than happy to listen to him— To listen to himself. He designed the whole house as his color, changed the furnatures a little, placed his books here and there, and put the toys he collected in. (He loves collecting figures) He started to use the garage as his work space, sometimes fixing peoples machines to gain money so he can buy something for himself too. Simply to say this, Sonic is proud.
Suddenly everything he owns becomes his. Sonic doesn't mind at all. He wasn't using anything related to a 'stuck in place' anyway. Even when Tails found out about his plane he offered to use it. The kid was delighted.
Tails knew this wasn't the same when he built the treehouse. This time… Sonic was by his side. His big brother. Who loves him more than anything. Even though he knows this he couldn't help himself but have doubts. All his life no one ever actually loved him for real…. He is suspicious and angry at his mind for thinking such things. But it was eating him out no matter what.
When Sonic comes to crash in his house for a few days he becomes nervous. He is nervous because, every time they sit in the same room he becomes very aware of his two tails. Even though he tries to focus on something else, it doesn't work. He feels out of his skin. Everything cool about Sonic reminds him of everything disgusting about him.
And when he gets extremely nervous around him he loses control over his tails, as they trash anxiously around, they bump into something causing them to drop and crash on the ground. That was mostly his books or toys. He becomes really embarrassed when Sonic finds this funny(cute). He helps him to collect them anyway.
But Tails never gets over this, why does he have to embarrass himself all the time?
He couldn't find the answer to that.
One day he accidently crashes a vase in Amy's house. That was from the first time he met her. Sonic decided to introduce the two friends he loves dearly. Tails never once in his life felt out of place/out of his fur covered skin so so much. Even when Amy was so nice to him, acting like a big sister looking over her lovely little brother.
He wanted to cry that second, this was too much for him. He never made friends before, he couldn't believe he was actually doing it or not. And after he accidentally broke the vase in his anxious moments. He crashed down on the ground, trying to pick up all the broken pieces through his blurry vision and shaky hands, repeating the same word, 'sorry', while tears poured down from his eyes nonstop.
Amy and Sonic panicked and got really upset. Not to him. They were sad for what he had to face in his early ages.
They tried to ease him up, helping him and reassuring everything is fine. When Tails finally calmed down a little, they drank hot chocolate together as they talked about funny things. They both give the kit the kind looks he needed all his life, and with some beautiful compliments added he started crying once again. But this time he was really happy and at peace.
Embarrassed, he sips his hot chocolate muttering, "It's really hard to sit right with them…"
"Yeah, I can imagine. But that's what makes you unique and I think being different from others is much cooler than being normal if you ask me."
He wasn't comfortable in his own body yet. But he knew as long as he had his friends one day he would also feel comfortable and proud of himself.
With Sonic dragging the kit all around the world he went. He does get open up, even gets eager to meet with new people. And he finally confesses his real name to him and Sonic never once jokes anything about it. With all the bonding time they get together, Tails finds himself finally relaxing and easing on himself. He wasn't still as courageous as the hedgehog but he is trying at least, right? And that's what matters. He is trying his hardest.
He sometimes bonds with Amy too. She shares some pretty design ideas she owns. Some better clean up methods, and most importantly, Tails learned some cooking food techniques from her. (Tails also learns some gardening from Vanilla and Cream too. He reads a lot of books in his life. He had an idea of most things but never experienced it himself. Doing all this with his friends makes him feel so happy.)
I imagine Amy and Tails visit each other's houses to draw and have some fun (relieve some stress) a lot. Amy draws silly and nicely done little comics, sketches; while Tails makes scale drawings.
Physical, emotional, and psychological trauma can all play a factor with memory loss. So I headcanon that Tails forgets some things that happened in the past like when he gets his traumes from the worst places. Some of all is blurry, some of it he really can't remember. I think his memory is really strong. This is just how he copes with trauma. He easily forgets 'unimportant' things his brain allows. That also opens a place for him to learn more 'important' things.
He doesn't mostly sleep in bed, or doesn't (all the time) voluntarily go to bed himself. (He falls asleep on his deskwork lol) But when he does he always hugs something: a pillow, his tails, a plush toy(?), a blanket. It has become a habit from the past. Before he met Sonic, there wasn't much to keep him warm in the treehouse so he hugged the closest thing to him to keep himself warm.
His phobia about lightning evolved when in an orphanage no one actually took their time to talk to him about it and show affection towards him to make him understand that there is nothing to fear about. And after running away from there he became more scared when he was all alone in his handmade home. Especially since he is living in a tree. Maybe after bad weather and a literal nightmare for him he decided to live on the ground.
Tails left the house Sonic gave him and moved to another one that he took literally every design on his own (That house still exists in my headcanon and they use it as a vacation place). The house we see in the idw comics is his current home. The house that is shaped like his head (Like Starline said, Tails takes a lot after Eggman lmao. Even though they are enemies, you can still learn a lot from your enemies, especially from them ……and Tails admires him too….. Swearing to never do anything he ever did. Seeing his mistakes that’s also made him develop his own techs accordingly.)
He can and will get aggressive if the situation says so
Bold of you to assume he won't get cocky, I MEAN LOOK, LOOK WHO RAISED HIM. His comebacks are pretty good.
He is omnivores. Nothing else to say here. He prefers meat more though.
He has a less developed sense of taste than any of his friends.
He has a good balance. And have a good sense of direction. Can see very well at night. Can sense earth’s magnetic fields with his eyes too. He can be really sneaky and silent like a ghost while walking if he wants to.
If it’s someone he trusts he deceives easily if not he is not quick to convince.
Tails goes limp like a cat when someone picks him up by his scruff
Yes, Sonic needs some time off for himself but I see Tails more stressed. I mean I'm not comparing the two like Tails is more stressed and depressed he needs more attention and such, that's not what I'm saying. What I mean is Sonic is physically tired and Tails is mentally tired. That's what I think but this doesn't mean Sonic is also mentally hurt lol because he is but he is really good at dealing with that. He jokes, that’s how he copes with it. I MEAN THEY ARE FFFFING KIDS DEALING WITH A MAD MAN EVERY SECOND OF COURSE THEY CAN'T STAY SANE FOREVER THEY NEED DISTRACTION FOR THEMSELF. Not everyone is good with dealing trauma and such. Some are mentally stronger etc. And Sonic crew is definitely number one with dealing this
Sonic hibernates but Tails doesn’t. So when Sonic sleeps, Tails takes care of him. And Sonic is scared to go into hibernation because of Eggman but his friends reassure him all the time and urge him to do so. It’s not healthy after all.
Do Tails have insomnia? Uh, no. He just doesn’t have time. Cliche I know. He is nocturnal so he naturally doesn’t need to sleep at night so he works but because of daily life he doesn’t get his enough sleep as everyone is active and working so he goes along too. His sleeping schedule is dead.
In winter he grows a winter coat so during warm seasons (mostly in spring) he shed (molt) so much fur so he can blow that extra fur off.
Can speak multiple languages. He is also ambidextrous (Can use his both hands).
I think Tails loves to eat... anything practical. He is not a picky eater. Mainly because he is left alone to live his whole eight years by himself with no one to take care of him, so naturally he stole things and such. Whatever he can find, he counts himself lucky. He also makes things for himself like a home. I imagine him living in a tree house he made and with the stuff he stole to live. But he left all that life in the past after meeting Sonic and he swore to never steal or live by himself to crave for things. He doesn't want anyone's help with anything he has to do and make money legally by himself. He is rich thanks to his inventions and stuff and he can buy anything he wishes. He also uses most of his money donating to people in need. But he is mindful of what he eats... mostly. He doesn't like to eat a lot of what Sonic eats. He doesn't eat them because he thinks it's greasy and, he also doesn't eat anything he doesn't know what's in it. This includes junk food. There are times when he makes escapades, but that's it. He doesn't understand how Sonic ate so much, does the man have a blackhole instead of a stomach? Hey, it seems to him that Sonic's getting more appetite when he eats further and further.

(Diff anon) Hmm, not to downplay it but, I wouldn't completely use [pre-reboot] Archie as a base since it had a different "design philosophy" than the games do. (Wasn't just the echidnas who looked like clones.) Plus, almost everyone was around the same height. The ones that weren't was already pre-established to be such like Rotor or Vector, or were deities like Mammoth Mogul.
Then you had Fleetway where adults foxes were twice as tall as Tails, almost near Vector's height. (Technically AOSTH too with the fake parents.)
Game-wise as far as canids; if Gadget(Forces Wolf Avatar), Hocke-Wulf, the MOSTH Conductor and his wife, and the fox bullies are anything to go by. Tails might not completely tower Sonic later, but may have a few inches on him. And an different physique; since it seems wolves are skinnier than foxes?
But it's all hcs at the end of the day though. (Should the day come to pass, I'm very curious on what Sega would come up with for the fox boy. I don't think any of us can prepare for what he might sound like.)
Hmm, probably. But then the same is also applied on STC verse and AoSTH. All three of them are different from gameverse canon and have their own design philosophy. (I wouldn't say everyone. Archie has a lot of characters and I remember some of them were pretty tall, and they were not previously established either.)
And like I said, animal species is a factor but not like, a determining one. I also mentioned Big and Blaze and the wolves, and in gameverse even the jackals are of the average mobian size and height, not just in comic. So yeah, various factors.
And as you said, at the end of the day, they are headcanons. The more widely indulged 'Tails will be taller' concept is fun and all for jokes and shenanigans when he's a teen but it's not my personal preference for when they are fully grown adults. I headcanon that they'll be the same height when older.

imagine being shadow right. and if professor gerald told you anything about other mobians at all then he likely didn't tell you much seeing as he wouldn't even tell you why he made you. coming to form this idea of other mobians, if anyone like you even exists at all, being far less powerful than you. you're the ultimate lifeform, right? so surely other mobians are like humans, weak and fragile and all down there living average lives.
and then 50 years later you have to encounter silver who is not only 14 and taller than you but could also twist your head off like a bottle cap with his brain if he wanted to

Going on this wonderful art post
Sonic should be about the size of.. let’s say a child (I take examples from Sonic werewolf time and Sonic n’ Chris the human anime)
Going on this fact, looking at characters such as: Vector, Vanilla (cream rabbit’s mum), and Big the cat (possibly even egg man) it is VERY plausible for mobians(personally I call them anthros) to become TALLER. To an average (possible 5 something height)
Assuming that sonic is a teenager here, there is a chance he can still grow up, BUT seeing the trajectory of this man’s height, I doubt that.
Also, seeing that Vector, Vanilla and Big are that height is makes me question other characters because to see a 5 ft or taller sonic is horrifying to me. Anyone else is fine though.
sonic is just like.. so fucking small. Looking at the “kid” characters like tails I just makes me wonder if the “baby” versions of the characters are smaller than my goddamn palm.
I saw that one post about idw where shadow had to climb those guard rail thingys- and they just.. he so tiny (possible shorter than sonic if the shoes are to be removed since it gives him height leverage)
Your telling me that these fuckers are fighting giant ass me ha monsters and they’re smaller than fucking doomslayer?! 4ft or less??
You could crush them with a fucking mini fridge I swear-
POV you are a person of average height

Been thinking,, Tails is probably small
Like, we don't know exactly what happened on Westside, but a lone 4 year old probably isn't a stranger to some form of food scarcity, no matter how smart he is. We also have no clue how long he was on his own before he met sonic and had a somewhat consistent eating schedule,,, no reference of when mobians typically begin eating solids or any developmental milestones. A few consistent fan hc are that he was just completely alone (neglect, parental death, abandonment, etc.), or that he ran from mistreatment (orphanage, family, etc.). In multiple cannons he's implied to live in the forest or be completely alone, independent of a village. That wouldn't be so strange as it seems a lot of kids hit it out on their own, but again, he's usually 4 ish when they meet, and from the way he acts, he's been alone for a while. The toddler years are very important developmentally, and kids who go hungry at this point tend to lag behind their peers for the rest of their lives. It messes with physical development like height and weight regulation, can contribute to cronic illnesses and blood pressure, and often effects behavior and anxiety levels.
Even after he meets sonic and gets taken under his wing, we don't know how stable of a diet these two crime fighting street kids could maintain. I remember a wonderful post breaking down the portrayal of food instability in AoStH, while I can't seem to find it, I remember they mentioned tails specifically showing a lot of signs of food hoarding and over eating, and the OPs own experience with these traits as a result of childhood hunger.
..Y'know, sonics probably in the same boat,, they both probably have to eat more than the average person because of the amount of calories they burn running,,, and while we don't know exactly what sonic delt with in game cannon, I know theres a few different examples in comic and show cannons. Unfortunately I never read any comics and I've only really watched 1/2 of AoStH so that's where my sonic knowledge ends, but I'm sure it varies.
There's also the issue that we have no clue how tall they're supposed to be,,, at their current age AND when they grow up. Like, shadow, amy, and sonic all seem to be around the same height rn (~100 cm / ~3 ft 3 in, Amy's a little shorter at 90 cm / 2 ft 11 in, but she's also a few years younger), so maybe sonic is on the right track, but do we know if they're supposed to get taller? Like adults in the sonic universe are wildly inconsistent from cannon to cannon??? Like, Vanilla is ~25 (age varies sometimes) and is approximately 130 cm (4 ft 3 in) while Vector is 20 yo and 180 cm (5 ft 11 in), and Big is 18 yo and 200 cm (6 ft 6 in). In Sonic Underground, Queen Aleena, his mother, was ~50 yo and ranges from source to source, but apparently is around 130-145 cm (4 ft 3in - 4 ft 9 in) while comic heights for other adults or parents are harder to track, but seem like they tap out around where the kids are now. So is height relative to species? Maybe?? Big is bigger than vector, and yeah, his name is big, that's kinda implied, but is he just an outlier or is that normal?? storm the albatross is 19 and just a little taller than vanilla at 140 cm (4 ft 7 in) but albatross' are fuckin massive compared to rabbits and cats so maybe species does play a part in height?? But also charmy and cream are the exact same age and height at 6 yo and 70 cm (2 ft 3in) ?? OK, wild, cool, whatever it's bringing logic into a fun world of brightly-colored cartoons and that's not always applicable, but I still think these mfs should be short.
I think tails should realistically be a behind in height, and prolly will stay that way, I think sonic should be shorter too tbh. With the early childhood hunger and intense world ending stress they have now, these kids should not be growing rip them
So hc that both sonic and tails are shorter than they should be, but Tails is, like, borderline concerningly small because of his EXTENSIVE history of stress, abuse, and hunger, AND as a result of that that he's kinda skittish and gets sick more often than kids his age should prolly

I've made some calculations and my Lord Exe/X design is roughly 1,50m per default, but I may have to redo my calculations because Léa's hedgehog height is probably not 1,40m... Like I think I had established that at the beginning of the story Sonic is 1m40 and Léa are smaller than him so...
Exe's Lord form is still taller than the average Mobian because :
He has never seen an actual Mobian IRL
The lad wants to look threatening
But even if I change Léa's height in the calculations, Exe shouldn't be taller than like... 1,55m. Which is still pretty darn small ❢ So I've decided that his limbs can grow from a certain point, but also that the smaller he is, the longer he can stay on Earth. So he can sacrifice a little height if it means he can stay in the human world longer. Could also explain the Sonic.exe plushie situation... Even though the plushies were originally introduced as spies I've always wondered how they got to stay on Earth so easily... I mean perhaps it's easier to place things in the human world now that Exe has the disks system but still. The plushies are seemingly just made of Exe's dark matter, not of an object already existing on Earth that Exe messed with. And Exe himself cannot stay on Earth for super long or else his body gets destroyed and he's forcefully sent back to his world, or something like that it's been a while since I've checked the original text about it. But yeah why were the plushies able to stay on Earth for days when Exe could manage like, a few hours at most ? Well now I have an answer for my own little canon : size matters.
Oh and what a good excuse to draw Léa cuddling a Sonic.exe plushie or something...❢
Um. Anyway. The Guardians are all smaller than Exe but not all the same height. Haven't made the calculations for the Guardians I've sketched yet + I need to recalculate everything anyway soooo... Yeah.

Shadow x Tall!Reader
Requested by anonymous: how about Shadow x tall! reader? like, taller than him :0?
So it's pretty well known that most Mobians are a lot shorter than the average human
And that never bothered Shadow, afterall, the height of a person doesn't determine their strength or skill
But he didn't expect you to be this tall
You're a G.U.N agent assigned as Shadow's temporary partner on a mission to bring in a former agent gone rogue
And let's just say, you wear size thirteen Nikes, men's size thirteen Nikes
For those who are confused, yes that was a reference to Tall Girl
You're pretty tall, not like insanely tall, but taller than the average man and tall enough to completely topple over someone like Shadow
The even bigger size comparison between you two than normal puts Shadow a little on edge, and he's hesitant to work with you
But he's heard about you're compatibility with most people and he knows that you're a great agent of remarkable skill
The two of you get driven to the last known location of the rogue agent, and the whole time you continuously catch Shadow making sideways glances
Each time you offer him a reassuring smile
You understand why someone with your size might seem threatening to him, you make most people feel short afterall, and someone of Shadow's stature is no different story
When searching for the agent, you try your best not to flaunt your skills and let Shadow take the lead, you don't want to make him feel inferior to you
He unfortunately takes of this and barks at you in return
"I'm perfectly capable of taking the lead if I want to! Don't think simply because you're adnormally tall you overpower me."
"Sorry, I just didn't want to make you feel lesser."
"What I feel is not important to the mission. I need you at your full potential if we're going to work together!"
"Okay then."
It isn't long before the two of you track down the fugitive and confront
But of course the fuckers got a gun
G.U.N wanted him brought him alive so they stripped the two of you from your guns to prevent any accidents from happening
A poor choice, really.
With your hands raised in the air, you slowly inch your way closer to the agent as he rants on about, well evil guy stuff
Now, Shadow could've easily kicked this guy flat on his ass by now, but remembering what you tried to do for him earlier, he decided to return the favor
You're now within arms length of the guy and he's getting increasingly nervous yelling at you to back up
He lifts his gun in warning and you do the only thing you can think of in a sudden state of panic
You slap the gun right out of his hand
Homeboy needs to work on his upper body strength, because it clatters to the ground easily
"Huh, I was not expecting that to work."
The man bolts for the gun but Shadow's quicker and points it warningly at his head
Luckily for you guys, he doesn't know you have strict orders not to kill him
Once the fugitive is safely in custody, you and Shadow part ways, but not without a friendly goodbye
"It was nice working with Shadow, I look forward to partnering with you again soon."
"As do I. You're were bit impulsive with that last stunt you pulled, but I supposed your skilled enough to keep up with me."
You raise your eyebrow at that, but nonetheless lean down to offer your hand to the hedgehog
He raises his brow as well before reaching up and shaking your extended hand
As you go your separate ways, Shadow allows a smirk to grace his features
He really wouldn't mind working with you again sometime
Whew, sorry for the lack of motivation recently. I allowed my inbox to get too full and now I have like 20+ asks. Everyone will be gotten too, don't worry, I'll try my best to start updating everyday. Thank you and happy reading!

{➹} – THE HEDGEHOG ONLY let out an amused sound at that, a hand raised casually before he shrugged. "'S alright, I'm used t' being asked all sorts of questions, even the questionable kind. Also comes with the title, unfortunately, but you get used t' it eventually. An' I'm just as used t' the musician thing getting put on the backburner because of the hero thing."
He sounded so casual about it, a true sign that type of thing happened all the time and he was no longer bothered by it. He had learned a long time ago that trying to change the masses was a losing battle, and he was more than done trying. He just took each day as he saw fit, and soon followed Ewe-Lala out of the shop and onto the street.
He did only just stifle a chuckle watching her go through the door. "It sort of depends on the city you're in too. Stick t' the warmer places and you'll find things are a lot bigger there t' accommodate the lizards and taller Mobians that live there. Usually we shoot for an average, but it doesn't always work out."
Ewe-Lala was aware she didn't need Sonic to introduce himself, though it was clear he was simply being polite. "Well, thank you." It wasn't often the sheep felt comfortable talking to someone about her problems. If she didn't count her dad, and even that was a stretch at the end of the day.
"I don't mind, though I wouldn't be surprised if you get a lot of questions since they'll most likely have seen your section in the pamphlet. I personally wished they added you're a musician as well." Wouldn't have made Ewe-Lala any less nervous about talking, though to an upcoming song writer it would've been nice to know.
The sheep would then start to head out, having to duck underneath the door given her sheer size. It seemed she was being extra careful like she already had hit her head on it. "I think your world might have to start making adjustments if they get used to use tourists." She was lucky she could fit, though some people in Flora would break the doorway trying to get through.

OC ramblings: Angelica Flaches
I feel like rambling about my doe daughter. So I will!
She likes to dress so that she can be camouflaged against an environment. This often includes finding something she can put her hair under, the bright hair sticks out.
She is moderately good at swimming; not the greatest but she is capable at it.
She has a wide knowledge in plants (that I myself don't have, lols. woops); particularly she likes to focus on flowers and grasses.
In spite of her plant affinity, she is very much herbivorous for the most part. Partly a personal preference on her part, and partly because she is a deer. (She's more than capable of eating mat, she just opts not to usually.)
She doesn't get along great with Sonic; he is too much of a free spirit for her to handle well, and Angelica is too much of a "please let me know when you get there, and don't be too late in getting home" kind of person for Sonic.
That isn't to say they can't co-operate on something; but Angelica would defer to someone else on how to handle Sonic when she can. Better them than her!
She has a soft spot for mouse boys that may or may not be her childhood friend.
She doesn't respond well to romantic overtures unless she already likes someone enough. If it happens while she's in a good mood she'll just leave the situation. If she's already in a bad mood, someone is going to get slapped. Or kicked. Kicked is more likely.
In contrast, her own attempts at trying to be romantic often turn into her awkwardly shoving a gift into her special someone's arms and leaving the scene.
Angelica is prone to putting herself down or downplaying her work; it's always "Oh, X did this, I only helped a little" or "It was no big deal."
Do not mess with Angelica's loved ones, or you will feel the fury of a thousand plant vines.
Angelica's mother tried to teach her how to use gun. She wasn't very good with them, though; the sounds they make always threw her off even with hearing protection. She still knows how to use at least a handgun, but doesn't use it when she can help it.
In contrast, she latched onto her father's attempts to teach her archery. She's continued to practice in honor of her father, and because the bow and arrow makes less noise than a gun.
Angelica is taller than average for an anthro/mobian. However, as far as her family goes she's actually the shortest of the family so far.
She does not like lemons. Keep those away from her!

176. Sonic the Hedgehog #108
Oh… please, come on, man… not this…
Robotnik x 2 = Trouble!
Writer: Benny Lee Pencils: Ron Lim Colors: Josh & Aimee Ray
So, did you think that perhaps for once in the history of comic books, that we'd actually seen a major villain die for good? Well, apparently not so! Eggman has detected the strange reality fluctuations caused by Knuckles several days ago, and gleefully demonstrates to the newly-roboticized Snively that one such fluctuation can be localized directly within their lab. What - or who - might this fluctuation affect, you ask?
Just outside of Knothole, the Freedom Fighters are relaxing and playing a nice game of hide and seek, when Tails, who is "it," runs smack into Robotnik, looking battered and scared. They're all, of course, incredibly shocked at his reappearance, and skeptical when he claims that Eggman brought him back, but is even worse than he ever was. He ran for his life, wishing now to seek shelter in Knothole. The Freedom Fighters reluctantly bring him to the king and queen, who get him a checkup by Dr. Quack to ensure he's not merely a robotic duplicate, and then, despite his literal war crimes, just… allow him to stay in the village. With all the people he tortured and terrorized barely more than a year ago. Seriously, not even a trial for his crimes? Nothing?
Robotnik seems to have settled right in, despite Sonic's obvious exasperation, and as the crew flies him to Robotropolis he eagerly speaks about perhaps becoming allies after all this is over, while they mostly ignore him in favor of playing cards. They infiltrate the city and fight a cursory number of shadow-bot guards, and Robotnik leads them to a room with a suspiciously-shaped "computer," inviting them to stand on a platform in the center of it and have Nicole take some readings while he accesses the mainframe. Of course, this is when he shows his true colors, and traps them in an energy field that harnesses the power of Eggman's "matter fluctuator" while the two alternate-universe villains giggle with each other, ecstatic that their plan to erase their enemies seems to be working.
The Freedom Fighters reveal that they knew Robotnik was trying to trick them all along, and only played along so that he would lead them straight to the device that brought him back so they could destroy it. He's baffled by this since he's already been brought, and as he and Eggman begin to fistfight over the failure of their plot the Freedom Fighters leave, satisfied that their job is done. Their true intentions become clear very quickly, as due to Robotnik's manner of return, his molecules were very unstable, and in the middle of the fight he vanishes back into oblivion, causing Eggman to punch Snively accidentally and then become furious at his loss once again.
This story basically ended up going nowhere, as Robotnik really, truly is gone for good this time, but I suspect it was mostly written as a lead-in to the two character files we'll be perusing today - one on the original Robotnik, and the other on Eggman, AKA Robo-Robotnik. We'll be skipping the explanations of their life stories, as we already know all of it - no new information is provided - and instead we'll look at the technical details. First of all are their height and weight. These details are identical for both entities, as they come from near-identical backgrounds in their respective zones. Their height is 189 cm or 6'2", which is only one inch taller than their game counterpart. However, their weight is where we run into a bit of a problem. Given all the tasteless jokes made especially in the early days of the comic about how fat and humongous and gargantuan Robotnik is, how heavy exactly would you imagine he is? I bet you didn't guess 61.7 kg or 135.8 lbs. That is not just an absurdly low weight for a being of his stature, that is my own weight. I'm pretty sure this is just a big oversight on the part of the writer, because there's no way in hell an obese six-foot-tall man shares his weight with an average-height, average-build girl in her early 20s. For Eggman, however, though I'm sure he shared his body type with Robotnik when he existed within his own zone, those stats are likely to be a bit different now due to his being a robot in a new body and all.
As far as their ages, this is where they differ significantly. They shared their early history in their respective zones, so both were born on the same birthday of September 10. However, the original Robotnik died at age 45, almost 46, when the Ultimate Annihilator went off. I include "almost 46" because the character file actually gives an exact date of death, June 13, meaning we now know to the day exactly when Endgame occurred. Endgame played out over the course of three days, so that whole shebang started on June 11, which was also the day Sally supposedly died before the truth was revealed. Please keep this date in mind, it will become important in a few issues. Eggman's reality, on the other hand, diverged a few years before Endgame, resulting in his own roboticization at the age of 43. At this point, his physical age likely "froze" since he was no longer bound by the aging process of flesh and blood, while his mental age continued to progress. His zone's timeline has already surpassed that of Mobius Prime, as in that zone Sonic and Sally were married with children, so mentally he'd more likely be somewhere in his late fifties or early sixties. Makes sense to me, though original Robotnik was certainly a little younger than I had imagined him to be.
"…A Girl Named Hope!"
Writer: Karl Bollers Pencils: J. Axer Colors: Josh & Aimee Ray
Sally has received a letter from Hope Kintobor, who was taken along to Station Square with the rest of the refugees, and decides to bring it to her parents to read it out to them. Hope proves herself to be a very well-spoken young girl in the letter, writing about how when she and her people first landed on the outskirts of Robotropolis and she saw Sonic, she thought he looked scary, as she'd never seen a Mobian before. However, over the course of living in the city, she began to mistrust her uncle after seeing more evidence of his roboticization of Mobians, and eventually realized that the Mobians were better than she had been led to believe after witnessing them rescue both their roboticized brethren and the rest of the Overlanders.
She describes how most of her life in space, ever since she was two years old, was spent in cryosleep, learning about the history of their home planet, including the details of the Great War between her people and the Mobians. They only ended up returning because their ship's power supply began to fail, but now, she no longer feels at home amongst her people, with the loss of her stepfather and grandmother.
This is honestly a very sweet story, and I'm glad we'll be seeing more of Hope. She was definitely the most interesting character among the Overlanders, and she's obviously a very observant and intelligent girl.
Reunification (Part 3)
Writer: Ken Penders Pencils: Dawn Best Colors: J&A Ray
Lara-Le is not at all happy about Knuckles' decision to join up with the Legion, even scolding him for what his father will likely think when he finds out. Knuckles becomes defensive and asks her why they can't just hear him out first, and she replies that she thinks he's too much of a threat to her children.
Wow, Lara-Le, you and Wynmacher have been pretty busy then, huh? That's a pretty big gap between your kids' ages there - Knuckles is gonna be seventeen by the time that baby is born, assuming that Mobian echidnas have a similar gestational period to humans. While he and his mother continue to discuss matters, Dimitri goes before the council to argue his case for reuniting echidna society. Most of the members present have obvious misgivings, but one Mitre agrees that society should come back together instead of fighting, though he expresses some disapproval of Dimitri's methods through such extensive cybernetics. While they continue to argue things out, Lara-Su waits outside Lara-Le's apartment, waiting for Knuckles to come out so she can spy on him and ensure he's not killed. He exits, and she follows him to the council chambers, witnessing him talk briefly with Lien-Da on the steps outside the building. She recognizes Lien-Da as "the one person Mom absolutely refuses to talk about." The two go inside, and Knuckles steps forward to express his reluctant support for Dimitri, commanding the respect of those present since they know he's fought with Dimitri many times before. Interestingly, the current echidna government is referred to as "the theocracy" in contrast to Dimitri's "technocracy" - elements of an echidna religion have been hinted at here and there, such as Lara-Le praying in the Aurorium, and the councilor all the way back when Dimitri first "died" quoting from what sounded like some kind of bible, but I think this is the first indication we've ever had that the current government is literally a theocracy, running according to a religious tradition instead of an intellectual one. This puts an interesting - and even more worrying - spin on the whole "banning technology" thing, as real life has shown time and again that religious fundamentalism almost always leads to hypocrisy and needlessly-restricted personal freedoms, which honestly fits exactly with everything that we've seen over the echidnas' history so far. But anyway, while Knuckles says his piece about trying to work together and resolve differences, Lara-Su tries to badger her way into the council chambers, only to be stopped by a guard.
What a cliffhanger! I'm sure there's no way she's interpreting the situation wrong due to not seeing everything that's happened up to this point, right? Right?

▸ IS YOUR MUSE TALL / SHORT / AVERAGE ? :
Seraph is a little taller than most mobians, but he hides it well by being conditioned to move on all fours, which gives the illusion that he’s shorter than most mobians because he’s hunched over and crawling everywhere.
▸ ARE THEY OKAY WITH THEIR HEIGHT ? :
He actually prefers appearing shorter, as this means his prey will under estimate him, if they see him at all from cover or hiding. Otherwise he doesnt have much of an opinion, so long as it isn’t hindering his survival.
▸ WHAT’S THEIR HAIR LIKE ? :
Seraph is covered in a very fine hide of chitin-like scales, that blend together well enough to give the illusion of a single, unbroken skin texture. Its very smooth, and very pleasant to tough though, if he lets you close enough. The red ‘crest’ on his chest is actually a slightly coarse buildup of fluff that extends over his shoulders, and ends around his shoulder blades.
▸ DO THEY SPEND A LOT OF TIME ON THEIR HAIR / GROOMING ? :
He bathes when he can, but he doesn’t extensively groom anything that is his chest fluff, or his claws. Grooming can erase the scent of his habitat and thus make him easier to detect.
▸ DOES YOUR MUSE CARE ABOUT THEIR APPEARANCE / WHAT OTHERS THINK ? :
Not at all. Others’ opinions don’t aid in his survival.
— PREFERENCES.
▸ INDOORS OR OUTDOORS ? ▸ RAIN OR SUNSHINE ? ▸ FOREST OR BEACH ? ▸ PRECIOUS METALS OR GEMS ? ▸ FLOWERS OR PERFUMES ? ▸ PERSONALITY OR APPEARANCE ? ▸ BEING ALONE OR BEING IN A CROWD ? ▸ ORDER OR ANARCHY ? ▸ PAINFUL TRUTHS OR WHITE LIES ? ▸ SCIENCE OR MAGIC ? ▸ PEACE OR CONFLICT ? ▸ NIGHT OR DAY ? ▸ DUSK OR DAWN ? ▸ WARMTH OR COLD ? ▸ MANY ACQUAINTANCES OR A FEW CLOSE FRIENDS ?
— QUESTIONNAIRE.
▸ WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR MUSE’S BAD HABITS ? :
Act first think later mentality. Rather than let his curiosity get the better of him, most times he’ll act on fight or flight if he cant accurately judge the outcome of an interaction, so it’s hard for him to make friends or even acquaintances.
▸ HAS YOUR MUSE LOST ANYONE CLOSE TO THEM ? HOW HAS IT AFFECTED THEM ? :
Seraph has been alone since conception. The only familiar faces he saw were rare occurrences outside his cell block, and the more common faces were the ones testing him and prodding him. He didn’t much like any of them anyway, so he’s not necessarily missing personal contact.
▸ WHAT ARE SOME FOND MEMORIES YOUR MUSE HAS ? :
Only one; the day he escaped.
▸ IS IT EASY FOR YOUR MUSE TO KILL ? :
Very. Easier for him to kill than it is to make a friend most times.
▸ WHAT’S IT LIKE WHEN YOUR MUSE BREAKS DOWN ? :
Paranoia, lashing out, biting, clawing, and untamed aggression pointed at anything that might come near and hurt him.
▸IS YOUR MUSE CAPABLE OF TRUSTING SOMEONE WITH THEIR LIFE ? :
[Verse Dependent]
Outside of verses, no. Unless you become his charge, in which case its more likely he’ll throw his own life away for yours.
▸WHAT’S YOUR MUSE LIKE WHEN THEY’RE IN LOVE ? :
[Verse Dependent]
He’s never been, so he wouldn’t know. However, he’s surprisingly affectionate he’s attached to someone. He’ll cuddle, hum, paw at, and curl up around his chosen.

▸ IS YOUR MUSE TALL / SHORT / AVERAGE ? : he is shorter than average, even for a Mobian in his Zone.
▸ ARE THEY OKAY WITH THEIR HEIGHT ? : nope, he wants to be taller but it’ll never happen so he tries to act like it doesn’t bug him but that’s hard to do when all your friends are taller than you.
▸ WHAT’S THEIR HAIR LIKE ? : his fur is actually soft, and his quills are typically relaxed and therefore pretty touchable as well. the only exceptions to this are the scars on his hands, chest and the one on his ears, they’re a little more uneven.
▸ DO THEY SPEND A LOT OF TIME ON THEIR HAIR / GROOMING ? : not really, no. not unless he needs to otherwise he’ll make sure he’s presentable and just go about his day.
▸ DOES YOUR MUSE CARE ABOUT THEIR APPEARANCE / WHAT OTHERS THINK ? : to an extent but not that much. he never goes out looking terrible by his own discretion, and usually just does his own thing. he will, occasionally, dress to impress but those moments are rarer and rarer these days.
: he’s messy, though it’s mainly his workspace that’s a mess. living space not so much, but he tends to be pretty disorganized with certain things. and while not a bad habit per se, he is a little spacey nowadays, as in he’ll get caught on a train of thought and lose track of what’s around him.
▸ HAS YOUR MUSE LOST ANYONE CLOSE TO THEM ? HOW HAS IT AFFECTED THEM ? : he did lose people way back when, when Robotnik first attacked Green Hill. People he’d grown up with and adults who had looked after him were lost in the attack. it was his driving force for going after Robotnik in the first place, it was what sort of forced him to become a hero.
▸ WHAT ARE SOME FOND MEMORIES YOUR MUSE HAS ? : some big ones are: when he got adopted by Rosie, when he, Miles and Knuckles all came to the conclusion they were family, the day the rest of The Freedom Fighters accepted him, flaws and all, plus his and Knuckles’ initiation (i.e. the day he realized everything was taking a turn for the better after so many years).
▸ IS IT EASY FOR YOUR MUSE TO KILL ? : not even a little. it’s the one thing he can’t, and likely never will be able to, bring himself to do. if he ever did take that turn, he just wouldn't be the same person afterward.
▸ WHAT’S IT LIKE WHEN YOUR MUSE BREAKS DOWN ? : not pretty. too many unhinged emotions lead to his energy becoming turbulent and he himself becomes hard to console. he’ll be a mess of tears, grief and very unlike his usual self.
▸IS YOUR MUSE CAPABLE OF TRUSTING SOMEONE WITH THEIR LIFE ? : absolutely, because he trusts his team with exactly that. they earned that trust and it’s not misplaced.
▸WHAT’S YOUR MUSE LIKE WHEN THEY’RE IN LOVE ? : he’ll be very content when he’s around the other person, like to a fault. he’ll always be in a good mood around them, wearing a smile and he’ll want to be around them a lot. he’ll also spoil them if they give him the chance and do whatever he can to put a smile on their face.

Chapter 25 - Caught
No matter how hard she banged on the glass separating her from the outside room, it neither budged nor drew the attention of those around her. Her arms were heavy and thick cords restrained her every movement, pumping a strange purple liquid into her veins that made her head foggy and her legs wobble. The room outside the tube was filled with massive electrical wires and giant, roaring machines at every corner, all connected to a bulky computer directly in front of her. The screen displayed a collection of graphs and numbers and outputs that made no sense to her, no matter how she looked at them. The heavier she felt, the blurrier her vision became, and the harder the screen was to read.
She was tired and groggy and confused and could barely comprehend anything she was looking at, beating weakly against the glass until her fist slid helplessly down to her side. Her body was giving out on her. The large, round man at the computer in front of her finally turned her way, goggles obscuring the sharp, peering eyes behind them, and it was all she could do to keep her eyes open long enough to study him, study his shape, remember his face… in case she ever escaped.
As she was dragged relentlessly to the darkness of her subconscious, the faraway sounds of explosions and furious growls echoed through the open doorway. Metal walls creaked and collapsed in on themselves, drawing the man’s attention away from his experiment. Alarms blared frantically as electricity zapped and snapped through the base, the roar of a tornado tearing through the facility caused a panic the small hedgehog could only mildly react to. The searing heat reached her even inside the tube and as the man ran out, panicking, screaming wildly, she knew she likely wouldn’t ever see him again.
She didn’t want to be left alone. Even if it was some mad doctor, something about the heat felt so much worse, so much more dangerous. Something that would destroy her, rather than simply use her for her powers. She had to escape, she had to break free, she had to…
Itara stared up at the strange red robot for some time when she noticed him. He looked as though he were waiting for an answer to something, some question she never heard. She wasn’t even sure she wanted to know what it was, either. She shook the images from her head and glanced around before returning her gaze to the tall red robot. Zero, his name was, she remembered that much, at least. But she didn’t know anything else about him.
She didn’t know where he stood, nor who or what he was, he was a complete wild card and she didn’t like it. The only thing she knew for sure at this moment was that he brought her to Robotnik and that was all she needed to know. He brought her to Robotnik and put her in this situation. Whatever happened on this ship was his fault.
She took another step away from him and narrowed her eyes. She wanted nothing to do with him. Even if he promised not to harm her, or not to let harm befall her, he had already done that by bringing her here.
“T-Take me home.”
“I will do so once I have my answers,” the towering bot stated flatly. “So, I’ll ask once more: who and what are you?”
Itara remained silent. She wouldn’t answer that so easily. She couldn’t, even if she wanted to. “I’m Itara,” she frowned, “I’ve already told you my name once before. And I’m just a hedgehog.”
“I didn’t ask your name, and judging by the Doctor’s response to your appearance, it’s safe to assume you’re not an average hedgehog.” She winced, but remained silent. “So, for the final time, what are you?”
There was a distinct threat behind his voice, suggesting she answer if she didn’t want to get hurt. It would have easily scared anyone, especially a child, and Itara briefly debated putting up an act to keep him from guessing otherwise. She realized, however, how meaningless that would be and only glared. She didn’t scare that easily and she wasn’t telling him her nature just so he could go tell Robotnik. There was more at stake than her physical well-being if he did.
When he realized she had no intention of answering he narrowed his eyes and stood back up. He towered over her, even more so than RK or Metal; if Itara had to guess he was even taller than the humans in their neighborhood. But she spent the first two-hundred years of her life dealing with Iblis; a too-tall robot wasn’t about to shake her.
“Fine. Then you can just remain here. I’ll be back.”
With that, he turned on his heel and stormed out, letting the heavy, metal door slam shut tight behind him, leaving Itara to her thoughts once more. She sighed heavily once he did and let her legs slide out from underneath her, dropping her head with them.
“…RK…”
Pulling her legs up against her chest, she wrapped her arms around them, resting her head against her knees and curling up as tightly as possible. Brave of a face as she’d put on, she honestly was terrified. Not because of Zero, or even because of Robotnik, but because of the familiarity of the situation. Captured and powerless, left alone with no help within reach. The last time she faced this…
She shook the images from her head again. If she slipped back into that, escape truly would be impossible. No, she had to stay focused. RK and Metal wouldn’t be able to rescue her in this situation, not this close to Robotnik, and she doubted even Kipper would draw near him. She had to at least escape the airship on her own. Somehow.
If she could just get off the ship, if she could just get away, it would differ from the past.
Sighing heavily again, she lifted her head enough to glance around the room, studying it for any possible means of escape. It wasn’t a cell, at least. If anything, it looked like unused lab space, with bare walls and no windows. Everything was covered in thick metallic plates, like everything of Robotnik’s always was, and there were no noticeable fixtures or indents. Even the heavy door simply slid into the wall and nearly disappeared if she hadn’t already seen where it was.
But why was she in here instead of a cell?
She knew there had to be some, it was a large enough carrier and Robotnik always had some sort of holding cell, usually designed for a specific blue hedgehog. Was it because they thought she was just a child and they didn’t expect she could escape? But surely Robotnik would recognize she’s no normal mobian and likely had some sort of power. She doubted he knew she couldn’t control them, either. So why such a lackluster response? It was entirely unlike his responses to her in the previous timeline. Then again, he had nothing to do with her creation in this timeline. He had no idea who she was.
But what about the mobian girl?
She had still been kidnapped, likely still by Robotnik. Itara had wondered, many times, just how much Solaris reset, but the changes had all been so random in nature that she could never truly pinpoint it. Nor could she exactly ask him. But this was the first situation where she desperately needed to know what was different.
What did Robotnik know?
Had her changed appearance actually kept him from recognizing her? Or was everything about her erased from his memories? She needed to know. Maybe she could use this unfortunate situation to learn more about the reset, learn what Robotnik knew compared to what she knew. Shadow hadn’t recognized her at all and Robotnik only realized she wasn’t normal. Maybe she could drag some answers out of him if she played her cards right.
But first she would need to get out of this room. It was as good a way as any to keep her distracted, at least. With a determined nod, Itara began her trek around the small room, running her hand over the walls, studying the corners, looking for any indication of either a ventilation system or exit. She didn't find much, however, and continued over to the door, staring up at it.
Just like everything else, it stretched far above her head and any likely panel to open it was well beyond her reach. There had to be one inside, she knew, but it didn't do her any good if she couldn't even reach it, let alone find it. She took a couple steps back to get a better view of the wall beside it, having to strain to find the outline of a removable panel. Standing on her toes, her fingers just barely brushed the bottom indent and try as she might, she could do nothing to remove it. When that didn't work, she gave a couple small hops in hopes she could grab onto something before she landed, but that went nowhere fast, either. As a final resort, she gave the wall a swift kick in an attempt to intimidate it into listening to her… but that only offered a sore foot as a reward.
Huffing angrily, she sat down, both to think and rub her foot. She had to get that door open. Removing her shoe, she gave it a hearty chuck at the panel, but it only clanked against the metal and fell.
“Stupid Sparky… why’d he have to go and fight Sonic? He was supposed to be watching me.”
Metal wasn't the only one she blamed for her predicament. In addition to the red robot that brought her there and Metal, she also blamed Sceira. If she hadn't been there, if she hadn't been so annoying, Itara would have gone straight to the museum with Kipper and none of this would have happened. She could have gotten the manuscripts and gotten out and still at least been with Kipper.
Why did she even save that annoying scorpion in the first place? She could have just as easily left her there and she would have been an unfortunate loss during the attack, Itara couldn't have even been blamed for it. It would have been the perfect opportunity to finally be rid of the pain in her neck. So why did she save her? Why did she risk so much for Sceira?
It was a stupid mistake.
She wouldn't make it again.
Growling and pulling her thrown shoe back on, Itara marched around the empty room once more, giving a final, thorough look around, before returning to the door again. With a heavy sigh, she turned around and leaned against the wall, sliding down and curling up again. She hadn't felt so alone in so long she'd forgotten how awful it was. She had gotten so used to having Kipper or RK, or at least her phone with her, she felt lost without them. Even her useless book would have been a comfort, she could at least write her thoughts down. But she had nothing.
No powers, no book, no robots, no doll, nothing.
Before she could get too far back in her thoughts, however, the door slid open again, jolting her out of her head and causing a small screech of surprise to escape the tiny hedgehog. The ghost of a smirk touched the robot’s face as Itara scrambled to her feet, glaring back at him and standing on the defensive. He shook his head and motioned towards the hall, explaining, “We’ve got some things to discuss, come on.”
Itara remained in place, her spines prickling further at the potential threat, but no amount of prickling and glaring kept her feet on the ground as Zero walked over and picked her up by the back of the shirt again. She attempted to wiggle out of his grasp, but found it just as useless as before and finally retreated back into her mind to devise a strategy. She hated how little control she had over anything anymore. Quietly begging with her powers, her dad, even her book, to just give her control, even briefly, at least let her know where the current path led, she whimpered to herself when no such assistance came.
She was utterly at the mercy of Dr. Robotnik and the strange robot named Zero.
As they continued down the hallway, Itara taking note of every detail she could along the way, the familiar sounds of electrical wires and whirring machinery echoed from every direction. Itara had no doubt in her mind every inch of this ship was covered in some manner of defense that only Sonic’s – or Metal Sonic’s – speed could possibly out match. Escape would be difficult, but she already knew that going in. Robotnik dealt with Sonic on a near-daily basis, he would have contingency plans for any number of situations, and her tiny, stumbling, powerless self would hold nothing to someone like Sonic or Tails.
She missed Kipper. She would have felt even a little better if the ghost doll was with her.
They came to another set of large, metallic, sliding double doors and Zero reached over to punch a short code into a pad beside it. Itara did her best to remember it. The doors slid open with a heavy vwom and revealed the expansive main control room of the carrier. There were a number of screens and videos displayed on the grid-based window to the outside, showing several locations inside the carrier as well as the cities and hillsides around them. The video feed of Spagonia was growing smaller and smaller every second, tying a knot in Itara's stomach.
From what she could tell, they weren't headed back towards Soleanna, either. She had been hoping maybe they would return to the base RK had infiltrated before, at least putting her back on the ground and within running distance of home. But there was no such luck. In fact, they appeared to be heading the opposite direction.
In a grand chair in front of the screens, inputting some sort of command in the console, was the large, round man of her past, those same goggles glinting off the screens before him. Dr. Robotnik. Eggman. The cause of almost every great calamity to befall the world in its many timelines. The single-handed creator of the killer robots of the Metal Series. And, in a time reset, the cause of Itara's own initial creation, as well as the release of Mephiles and Iblis. His far-reaching genius was something to be feared, and often was, with few exceptions, though Itara was not one of them. She had seen his penchant for destruction a number of times over, both incidental and purposeful, and she wanted nothing to do with him.
Zero strode over to the chair at the center of the console, announcing his presence, and Itara felt her panic turn to terror with the turn of the chair, the reveal of that grinning face and those shining goggles. Once more, she could feel the peering eyes behind them and the inevitable destruction they always caused, and her body shuddered in response. Even for someone like her, whose goal was once to see the destruction of humanity, whose physical body was only a container for something greater, the unstoppable need for power consistent in Robotnik’s actions was a terrifying ordeal to face.
With Zero’s release of her shirt and her placement back on solid ground, she slid back down into a sitting position and stared up at her captors, frozen, shaking. The two studied her before shifting their focus to one another.
“She refuses to answer any questions,” Zero explained, looking between the doctor and the small girl, a touch of suspicion in his tone as he explained, “it seems she’s quite afraid of you.”
A small grin spread across Robotnik’s face before he wiped it away again and leaned back, studying the little girl staring, horrified up at him, her bright green and purple eyes making him somewhat uncomfortable. Shaking his head, he looked to Zero again, “Well, I can’t say I’m surprised. I’ve explained what the mobians think of me, it’s not uncommon for the young ones to fear me.” Something about the statement caught Itara’s attention as her previously flattened ears perked. Turning back towards her, he leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, studying her, trying to understand her strange appearance. “It’s okay, I won’t hurt you. We just want to ask some questions.”
Something was off. He was putting up a face, though Itara couldn’t imagine why. He’d never been the type to act coy around children, he’d been the one who initiated her kidnapping, after all. Why the façade? Itara’s eyes narrowed suspiciously, her ears pinning back again as she unconsciously leaned further away. But the shift in expression in the Doctor brought her attention to her own movements as she sat up straight again, studying him. She couldn’t be so obvious, if she wanted to learn what he knew, she’d have to play the same game. She had to join the act.
She shook her head slowly, shifting her expression back to one of concern as she stammered, “L-like what?”
“Well, for starters, what’s your name?”
The strain in Robotnik’s voice and the look of frustration on Zero’s face would have gotten a laugh, realizing just how ridiculous the situation was. Only one of them was putting on no act and he was the most out of place. Meanwhile, both she and Robotnik were hiding their own natures, for one reason or another, and would likely get nothing out of the interaction about to happen, yet Zero seemed to be the most frustrated over this. She became curious of his goal, as it clearly wasn’t the same as Robotnik’s. What was he looking for, that he thought only Robotnik could give? Perhaps she would start there.
After a short back and forth between her and Robotnik, neither of them gaining anything, just as she suspected, Robotnik grew frustrated first. He turned away, waving for Zero to take over the conversation, which he seemed all too happy to do. Itara watched Robotnik turn back towards his computer to go back to monitoring whatever progress was happening before shifting her gaze to Zero, who seemed to be debating how to go about getting answers from the small mobian ‘child’. If Itara had to guess, he was normally a shoot-first-ask-questions-later sort of guy and having to reign that back was putting him on edge, in addition to whatever other problem he was apparently dealing with. She decided to ease up the act ever so slightly with him, wanting answers, herself.
“If you promise to take me home, I’ll tell you about my crystals,” she offered, but interrupted before they could respond by pointing to Zero, “but it has to be you, not him.”
Zero debated, but nodded, “fine, as I said before, I’ll take you home if you answer my questions, I have no intention of doing otherwise.”
Itara noticed the hitch in Robotnik’s face and shook her head, wanting to test the waters, “he does. He doesn’t want to take me home.”
She watched Zero cast a long sideways glance towards the Doctor, studying both their expressions carefully until Robotnik waved the thought away. “Nonsense,” he argued, though refused to turn towards them and kept his sight on the computers, “I have no need to keep a child here.” She needed to push this further.
“There,” Zero responded, looking to her again, “I’ll take you home, so answer the question: what are those crystals?” Itara remained silent, looking cautiously between the two, stalling for time to come up with an answer. They weren’t exactly easy to explain, and she didn’t want to give Robotnik any ideas, she had to deal with the situation carefully to avoid piquing his interest. But apparently, she remained quiet for too long and pushed the red robot a bit too far as she rather suddenly found the end of a glowing blue sword pointed in her direction, impatient blue eyes sparking behind them as he once again demanded, “answer the question.”
Itara jumped and scrambled further away, staring up at him with widened eyes. She still wasn’t even sure what the sword was made of and didn’t want to be on the receiving end of it. “I-I-I don’t know!” she stammered, “they just… appear-show up sometimes! Wh-when I’m upset!”
The answer drew Robotnik’s attention back as he turned towards them again, studying her and the angry bot. “Are you the only one this happens to?”
Itara winced and looked away, the shining light of the sword still present in her peripheral. That was a dangerous answer. But what would be the best response? “I… n-no, I…” her ears pinned back again, “m-my dad… could also do this but… he… he died… last year.” The sword finally lowered and retreated into its hilt, giving her a moment to breathe, but it was short as Robotnik hummed, curious.
“Your dad, hm?”
The best lie was often sprinkled in with truth, she’d learned early on, but she doubted any amount of lie or truth would have kept Robotnik off her trail. She was caught the second he saw her. Perhaps she could have convinced someone else that she was just some kind of rare breed of mobian, but not Robotnik. She kept her eyesight off to the side, curling in on herself again, lost in thought about both her situation and now the mobian parents that had, in fact died. She wasn’t sure how to respond anymore.
“I… I told you… so… take me home now,” she mumbled, only looking up enough to watch their responses. Zero studied her before turning his gaze to Robotnik, but the doctor only kept his sight glued to her.
“We will, in due time,” Robotnik responded, “but that wasn’t the only question we had.” Of course it wasn’t. “What do you know about Solaris and Gaia?” Itara’s ears pinned tightly against her head as she cast a wary glance towards him, trying to look as confused as possible.
“What… do you mean? Solaris is… Soleanna’s Sun God, right?” The frustration in her voice when she uttered his name caught even her off-guard, and Zero’s attention.
“That’s right, you’re from Soleanna, aren’t you?” Robotnik continued.
“I… m-maybe.”
“Well we can’t take you home if we don’t know where that is, after all. In fact, why don’t you come put your address here in my console and we can talk on our way there,” he motioned towards the long, backlit keyboard spread out across the table, reaching up to pull the GPS up for her.
Itara hesitated, eventually shaking her head, “I said he could take me home, not you.” Even if she had no intention of giving either of them her real address, she didn’t want Robotnik even knowing where she’d be dropped off. He reached up and rubbed his chin, seeming to consider this before shrugging.
“Alright, alright, then let’s talk a bit more, about the monsters that attacked. Do you know what those were?” Itara shook her head. Of course, she knew, but he didn’t need to know that. He continued once she did, “they were monsters created by Solaris and Gaia, two of the three main Gods of this world. Do you know the last one?”
Chaos.
Now that Itara looked up to the GPS, she could see their current location and heading. They had gone west from Spagonia, apparently, across the desert. They were headed over the ocean. The destination was Station Square. So Robotnik did know something, he was on the exact same path as her. But… how? She had no further time to debate as the doctor turned to her once more.
“You look like you know, after all. There’s more to you than just those crystals, aren’t there?”
“I…”
“So why were you at the university?”
“I… was just… on a field trip. For school…”
“Is that so?”
“How…?” Itara’s brows furrowed together in confusion, realizing what had struck her as odd before, “How did you… know about Solaris’ creations?” No one should know what Solaris’ monsters looked like, no one but her. How did Robotnik know they were his? Robotnik remained silent, but grinned, and only then did Itara realize she gave herself away. She shouldn’t have known.
