“Cass doesn’t know what Nick did, though.” Not yet anyway. There was no way Luna would lie to Cass about this the way they had to her. Luna looked Prince directly in the eyes. “Right, because cheating is the worst thing you can do to a person,” she said in a tone that was difficult to tell if she was being sarcastic or not. She definitely was being sarcastic, and Luna’s words were loaded with implications. She wasn’t going to run down the list of all the things he’s done in the past to her. There’d be too many to name from the past week alone, it felt like, but cheating wasn’t the only thing that made someone a bad partner. Luna finally broke their gaze with a shake of her head. “I’m over this conversation,” she mumbled before moving her leg away from his touch and laying back down as she ran a hand down her face.
“I know that, you can just name one thing me or my dad have done and it would be worse.” Prince paused, unsure why he mentioned his dad, not expecting it. It was just a thought that came to him when he considered the bad things a person could do in a relationship. “I was just trying to-” He paused again and stopped because Luna didn’t care what he was trying to do, or what point he had been trying to make. Either way he did it in the wrong way. Prince sighed, bringing his hand back to himself. He didn’t speak, just stared at her. The silence made it feel a little creepy. “I’m sorry. I’m still trying to be better at-” he didn’t know so he struggled to even think of something to say there, “being better?”

NYC reopening (AP) New York City hits a key point Monday in trying to rebound from the nation’s deadliest coronavirus outbreak. For the first time in three months, New Yorkers will be able to dine out, though only at outdoor tables. Shoppers can once again browse in the city’s destination stores. Shaggy heads can get haircuts. Cooped-up kids can finally climb playground monkey bars instead of apartment walls. Office workers can return to their desks, though many won’t yet. The virus has been blamed for over 22,000 New York City deaths. The death toll has been in single digits in recent days. Infections are down, but between 200 and 400 people have still been testing positive for the virus each day over the past two weeks, according to city data.
Another shooting in Seattle protest zone leaves 1 wounded (AP) One person was wounded in what was the second shooting in Seattle’s protest zone in less than 48 hours, police said. The shooting happened late Sunday night in the area near Seattle’s downtown that is known as CHOP, for “Capitol Hill Occupied Protest,” police tweeted, adding that one person was at a hospital with a gunshot wound. The Sunday shooting followed a pre-dawn shooting on Saturday in a park within the zone that left a 19-year-old man dead and a 33-year-old man critically injured. The CHOP zone is a several-block area cordoned off by protesters near a police station in the city’s Capitol Hill neighborhood.
With no flights, Argentine sails across Atlantic to see parents (AFP) “Mission accomplished!” That joyful declaration came from Juan Manuel Ballestero, an Argentine sailor who, unable to fly home from Portugal due to the pandemic, crossed the ocean alone in his modest sailboat to see his aging parents. The 47-year-old completed an exhausting 85-day odyssey in his small boat, the nine-meter (30-foot) “Skua.” After testing negative for COVID-19 on arrival, Ballestero was cleared to set foot on dry land to see his mother 82-year-old Nilda and father Carlos, aged 90. “I’ve achieved what I’ve been fighting for these last three months,” he told AFP. “It came down to this: to be with the family. That’s why I came.” Ballestero, who works in Spain, hatched his ambitious plan for a single-handed sea passage after flights back to Argentina were canceled because of the pandemic.
Surprise medical bills (NYT) Last week, my colleague Sarah Kliff noticed something strange. A medical lab in Dallas had charged as much as $2,315 apiece for coronavirus tests, even though a test typically costs $100. Sarah called the lab to ask about the price—and the lab quickly dropped it to $300. In her years of covering health care for Vox and now The Times, Sarah has frequently reported on the arbitrary nature of medical costs, often highlighting extreme examples. After these examples receive public attention, health care providers sometimes reduce the price. Of course, most medical bills don’t become the subject of journalistic investigations. Which means that medical labs, drug companies, hospitals and doctors’ offices are often able to charge high prices to insurance companies and patients, without consequence. “If you look at pretty much any other developed country—Canada, Britain, France, Germany, Singapore, the list goes on—the government does some version of rate setting,” Sarah told us. “The United States doesn’t.” That’s one reason that the cost of health care in the U.S. is higher than in any other country.
Turkey’s lonely tourist attractions face make-or-break week (Reuters) Turkey’s Mediterranean coasts and historic attractions face a critical week as the government presses to open borders and salvage at least part of a tourist season already battered by the coronavirus pandemic. With beaches largely empty and many hotels deciding whether to open, Tourism Minister Mehmet Ersoy told Reuters he hoped the world’s sixth-largest destination could attract up to half of last year’s 45 million arrivals. But much depends on talks to begin flights from Russia, Germany and Britain—also hard hit by the virus—which should reach some conclusions by early next week, he said. The stakes are high for Turkey, where a rebound this month in COVID-19 cases has raised concerns in a country where tourism accounts for up to 12% of the economy. Foreign arrivals fell by two thirds in the first five months of the year.
Virus cases surge in India, US, but slow in China, Korea (AP) The world saw the largest daily increases yet in coronavirus cases, with infections soaring in India’s rural villages after migrant workers fled major cities. India’s coronavirus caseload climbed by nearly 15,000 as of Monday to 425,282, with more than 13,000 deaths, the health ministry reported. Nearly 90% of India’s poorest districts have cases, though the outbreak remains centered in Delhi, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu states, which are home to major cities. Infections slowed in China and South Korea, suggesting some progress in stemming their newest outbreaks. But despite clear headway in containing the virus in regions that suffered early outbreaks, globally the number of new virus cases has soared in recent days. In Brazil, Iraq, India and the United States, hospitals are scrambling to cope.
China Knocks Out Tyson Imports Following Coronavirus Outbreak (Foreign Policy) China has temporarily suspended the import of poultry products from an Arkansas-based Tyson Foods processing plant after reports of a mass coronavirus outbreak at the company’s processing facilities. Tyson is the second largest chicken processor in the world with chicken sales of $13.1 billion (out of total sales of $42.4 billion) in 2019. The World Health Organization says there is no evidence that a person can contract the coronavirus from food or food packaging, but Chinese authorities—chastened by a recent outbreak at a Beijing food market—seem to be taking a hard line. China-based experts have floated the possibility that any more problems with U.S. food exporters could lead to a dissolution of the trade deal on natural disaster grounds—and an end to $36.5 billion in agricultural products that China must buy from the United States as part of the agreement.
Australia Fears Second Wave as State Tightens Virus Controls (Bloomberg) Australia’s second-most populous state has tightened coronavirus controls as a spike in cases triggers fears the nation could be hit by a second wave of infections. Victoria extended a state of emergency by four weeks to July 20, halved the number of visitors allowed in homes to 5 and delayed a planned increase in the size of gatherings in cafes, restaurants and pubs. The weekend announcement, and a jump in cases in countries including the U.S., Israel and South Korea, heightened market concerns about the difficulty of reviving economic growth while controlling the spread of Covid-19.
As Lebanon sinks into crisis, fear of crime grows (Reuters) A financial crisis that has swept Lebanon since last year means more and more families have little means to cope as the currency collapses and the state offers little or no help. The country faces what is seen as the biggest threat to its stability since the 1975-1990 civil war. In the first four months of 2020, murders in Lebanon doubled from the same period last year. Car thefts jumped nearly 50% and burglaries 20%, according to a report by the Beirut-based research firm Information International, based on police data. As the currency plunges, more unrest is feared in a country with a tumultuous history and where sectarian tensions are never far from the surface. As the currency plunges, more unrest is feared in a country with a tumultuous history and where sectarian tensions are never far from the surface. A World Food Programme report this month found that 50% of Lebanese, as well as 63% of Palestinians and 75% of Syrians in the country, had feared they would not have enough to eat over the past month. A security official linked spiralling prices to what he described as friction in the streets. “We’re still at the start, it’s only going to get bigger,” he said.
Dubai set to reopen for tourism, allow residents to travel (Washington Post) Dubai authorities announced late Sunday that the city would once again be allowing in tourists—with a negative coronavirus test result—starting July 7. Residents will also be allowed to travel again starting Monday. The new travel rules for Dubai, a wealthy Persian Gulf emirate known for its soaring skyscrapers, luxury hotels and beaches, reflects the importance of tourism to the economy. Unlike United Arab Emirates capital Abu Dhabi, Dubai does not have oil and its economy relies significantly on international travel and tourism. In 2019, more than 16 million tourists visited Dubai. The hotels, restaurants and other facilities catering to visitors have been desolate since a ban in late March on all arrivals except citizens. Even residency-visa holders—some 90 percent of the population—were not permitted to return to the country until just recently.

Axel Auriant Interview
Note: This interview was filmed back in April when the Norwegian cast and the French cast were in Paris for a Skam convention. At that point, Axel didn’t know the show would be renewed.
This is not a transcript. The interview is quite long so we summarized his answer. The channel is going to add English subtitles soon apparently.
Question: For people who don’t know, describe Skam France and tell us a few words about Lucas
Axel: Skam France is the adaptation of a Norwegian series, that follows a group of teenagers and talks about teenagers’ life nowadays and the problems that come with it: love problems, identity problems, no I don’t think those are ‘problems’ but rather questions. Questions about relationships, identity, drugs… rape too. I think it deals with that in a good way,
Lucas is a character that I like, to start, he’s in the group, he’s Yann and Emma’s best friend and he’s questioning a lot regarding his sexuality, his family…. He’s a character who hides a lot, who says everything is alright but we understand that it’s a little bit more complex than that.
Q: Who would you want to be Skam France's season 5 main?
Axel: *thinks about it* no sorry, of course, Lula’s character! Daphné! Or Alex. Girl Alex.
Q: What do you have in common with Lucas?
Axel: I think we all have similarities… That’s what is great with the casting. David took time to get to know us in real life so our personalities match with our characters so that we could put a bit of us in our characters. I’m a very bad liar like Lucas. I like to laugh, I have a tendency to make jokes to hide other things, I think that’s the biggest thing I have in common with Lucas: to act like a cool guy when things are not great
Q: An actor you want to film with?
Axel: Vincent Cassel.
Q: A series and a play at 20, how do you deal?
Axel: I’m very lucky. I am alone in the play so no matter what I have to play. I thought I could manage both. I was Lucas during the day and Adrien at night and it’s great.
Q: When do you get the most adrenaline? When you’re filming skam with an international audience or when you’re playing alone on stage and you’ve only got one chance?
Axel: the play, but because with Skam we weren’t aware of the impact. We started filming and… nobody knew the original version, we hadn’t seen the episodes so I think we weren’t conscious of the impact it could have on people. We only understood when the first episodes aired and we got messages from Brazil, Portugal, Russia...and it made us happy but before that, we.. or at least I, didn’t expect it.
Q: if you had to choose between your acting career or your music career, which one would you choose?
Axel: Acting! Yeah. I wanted to be a drummer until I was 16 and after that, I had my first heartbreak with my first girlfriend and I started theater and I thought it was great to free yourself from a lot of emotions with a text, I thought it was awesome.
Q: How does it feel to go to conventions and meet fans from all over the world?
Axel: it’s unbelievable, to meet them for real, to see their faces.. It’s awesome. We were surprised and happy. To be able to meet and talk to people, it was great. And the Norwegian actors too! We’re all fans, we all watched the show afterwards and I love it. We met a lot of people and it gave us a lot of strength and happiness.
Q: the fans are waiting for you in the second edition…
Axel: we’re waiting for the invite *laughs* no but we’ll gladly be there! I speak for the whole team, we’ll come back with pleasure.
Q: what are your projects for the future?
Axel: I have the ‘La vie sur mesure’ in France tour and maybe the next seasons of skam, we’ll see. It depends on the audience, the production… We all really want to do it but we’ll see, it doesn’t depend on us. I’ve got a few suggestions for theater and cinema so we’ll see
FANS QUESTIONS
Q: Will you play the drums on the show?
Axel: in the first two seasons I don’t play, if we do season 3, 4 or 5, maybe, we’ll see. As the director said, it really is a part of me, it’s a real passion so maybe if the character is still like me, I will.
Q: Did you watch the other versions?
Axel: No… wait, yes I did. The one with the hat and the fringe? The German version. I think it’s german. I watched the first clip. Only the first clip and I didn’t watch the others.
Q: Your favorite character from Skamfr (apart from Lucas)?
Axel: Manon. I saw season 2 and she’s incredible. Incredible. All the team too but really I think Marilyn has created a wonderful character. We laugh, we cry, we’re with her. We understand her and we feel what she’s feeling. It’s really strong. Really, Manon.
Q: Your favorite French cities?
Axel: I was born in Besançon so I love it. I love the whole country. I love the south. I love Paris, Besançon. Lyon too. I love France
Q: another role he would have wanted to play? (Not skam)
Axel: there are plenty.
Q: Would you marry me?
Axel: yes. Meet me tomorrow at McDonald’s, Place d’Italie.

MONTGOMERY ‘MONTY’ SANTOS —
twenty-seven, non profit volunteer
THE VIOLENT DELIGHTS —
Montgomery Santos had the distinct misfortune of being born into a wealthy family on the Upper East Side. He never found a home in the place he was raised, with the people he was with --- Nothing quite fit. His mother ran off when he was seven, his father decided the nanny was better fit to take care of the kids, and his younger sister, Celia, was the center of attention. Even at a young age, Monty didn’t seem to see himself in this life -- Something so obscenely lavish, going to a 9-to-5 in an office, spending years in medical school so he could eventually take over the family plastic surgery business. He didn’t have the same dreams as his sister, wanting nothing more than to get away from living in a place where he had to forfeit any sort of private life. Through the years, Monty tried to find his way in this world; He kept his head down, stayed in the background, tried to mind his own, while his sister stood in front. Celia always had a desire to be center stage, to be famous, to be seen --- Monty sought the pure opposite.
Despite his best efforts, he found no home. Monty went as far as getting himself accepted to Columbia University, his father already making plans to get his son into medical school. But as the time came to pack up his things and leave for school, Monty had a moment of clarity -- Pushing him to choose leaving his life behind, getting himself the first one way ticket he could get his hands on. It was an impulsive choice at best, having a much bigger impact that he anticipated. Once his father became aware of his son’s change of plans, the reaction was catastrophic. His father saw Monty’s choice as betrayal, firmly deciding to properly cut his son off; He was cut out of the will, as well as the family funds.
Monty, though he mourned the lost, he finally found the liberation he sought after. Being cut off from his family was an outcome he didn’t plan for, nor want -- But one he has no choice in anymore. He’s spent the last nine years traveling the world, working with multiple non profit organizations to do various charity work. While he kept in touch with a few friends, going back to his family was no easy feat. He never bothered to try and reach to his father, nor to did he keep much communication with his younger sister, Celia. The only one who managed to stay in touch (mostly from her bailing him out) with was his step-mother, Freya Atanas. He wrote to her through his travels, choosing to disconnect from social media and communicate with letters. Needless to say, his life has become the pure opposite of what it once was -- But after the passing of his step-mother, he has no choice but to return to the city. Her death blindsided him, having never even known about her cancer diagnosis, or health crisis -- While returning to the city is one of the last things he wants, he can’t stay away without closure.
ACT I —
Returning to the Upper East Side is a tragedy for Monty, to say the least. Though he was never close to his step sister, his step mother Freya was another story --- Monty never had a relationship with his biological mother, and Freya was the one who took on the role. Her death took a toll on him, enough to bring him back to the one place he swore he’d never return to: Manhattan. After his arrest in Paris, and all the shady dealings that went on to get him out of trouble, New York City was the last place he planned on returning to. That was a life he left behind, and part of himself he didn’t want to feed back into. His step mother’s death was enough to break down the barriers to keep himself safe, and return to the place and people who made him into someone he wanted to forget.
INSPIRATION —
HUMAN / killers. EVEREST / nightcap. BEATNIK TRIP / gin wigmore.
CONNECTIONS —
CELIA SANTOS & OPHELIA ATANAS — younger sister, step sister. Hearing your father announce his engagement at sixteen didn’t leave Monty much space to fight against it. Unlike his younger sister, Celia, and soon to be step sister, O, he didn’t particularly care to fight it to begin with. This was going to be a new change, but Freya seemed like a nice enough woman, and she made his father happy -- Monty went into the venture with an open mind, and a certain need of feeling he should be the peacemaker in the situation. His efforts didn’t do much, and eventually, he simply gave up; There was no use in helping someone who didn’t want to be helped. His departure from the city put space between him and his family, something he still feels guilty for finding comfort in. He’s always gotten along with both girls, but with the lack of cell service in the majority of the place he’s traveled, as well as the desire separate himself, Monty hasn’t made much of an attempt to keep in contact with either of his sisters.
BISHOP KIRBEY & ROWAN TANDEL — former best friends. Once upon a time, Bishop, Monty and Rowan were good friends. In their high school days, the three (along with Sebastian O’Riley) were known for their parties, and out of control natures. Bishop was the ring leader, Rowan was the supplier, and Monty was along for the ride. After they parted ways, leaving for college and the like --- the three only saw one another on New Years Eve, making a promise to always ring in the new year together, the right way. Every year, in a major city, the three meet up and spend the night black out and reckless. This year, however, the party got out of hand --- New Year’s Day morning Monty Santos found himself woken up by Parisian cops, having found him asleep with multiple sex workers, and a felony-sized amount of drugs scattered across the room, with Rowan and Bishop nowhere to be found. Monty was arrested, and thanks to the intervention of his step mother Freya Atanas, everything was swept under the rug, other than the betrayal among friends. He hasn’t seen either man since the arrest, nor does he want to.
TATE RODRIGUEZ --- old friend. With the reputation of his sister, Tate never imagined they’d find a friendship with Monty Santos, but somehow -- The two have become close. There wasn’t much of a relationship between them when they knew one another in high school, but their paths crossed after; With Tate’s charity ties, and Monty’s self-induced exile, they consistently ran into the other. Their lives have both gone in two very different directions -- While prefers to remain in the background, Tate’s finally felt they’ve found their place among the Upper East side. Despite their differences, Tate is one of the only people in the city he trusts. Monty and Tate still manage to find common ground, so when the phone call came in the middle of the night that he was making his return to the city, on unfortunate circumstances. they were happy to oblige. Monty’s been crashing on Tate’s couch for the last couple of months, without a plan for the future.
BUFFY SEYMOUR --- ex-girlfriend. Buffy and Monty’s relationship meant vastly different things to one another, and depending on who you ask --- The story has two incredible different endings. The two knew one another vaguely during high school, but didn’t have much of a connection, nor did they even have much of a friendship. But, they found one another again in the south of France, ending up spending the summer together. From Monty’s point of view, this was a fun summer fling. He would be back to building homes with his charity, and she would return to the city at the end of the season. The way he saw it, he assumed Buffy was on the same page as him. What he hadn’t anticipated was the messy break up the two went through. Buffy had fallen, and fallen hard -- And the way she saw it, he broke her heart, leaving her high and dry. He still regrets how things ended between them, and though he’s become a master at dodging his past --- He and Buffy are sure to run into one another now that he’s in the city.
ARLO VASQUEZ — old friend. If there’s anyone who seems to understand the desire to distance themselves from the Upper East Side, it’s Arlo. Monty saw that immediately, and when they crossed paths while working with a charity, he welcomed the other man with open arms. He didn’t know him well as a teenager, having been far too caught up in the antics of his neighborhood, only to have it truly burn him in the end. So, the company of someone like Arlo – A memory from a past life, but one who didn’t haunt him – was something he didn’t question. The two forged a friendship, bonding over their distaste for the Upper East Side, that they sought more than what Manhattan had to offer. They spent a few months working on the same project, even finding themselves in one another’s beds once or twice, before their paths diverged and Arlo returned to Brooklyn. But, now that the other man has traveled across the bridge – Monty is incredibly grateful to have someone he can call a friend by his side.
monty santos’ face claim is bob morley & is taken.
