A Worthy Trade
Summary: Garreth & Adelaide Weasley ready for the day, and Garreth ruminates on all of the Good in his life. Word Count: 2173 Rating: T A/N: Written for @garrethweasleyfest. My prompt used was Professor Gar. The inspiration to write left me entirely for basically a month straight, and this was actually meant to be a longer work. I might write a part two. We'll see what happens, and I hope you enjoy it for what it is anyway. HUGE thank you to @cuffmeinblack, @pluviowriting & @applinsandoranges for being so kind and encouraging. This wouldn't have happened without you! TW: Pregnancy, Pregnancy Mention
Hogsmeade was in top form when autumn descended upon it, Garreth had always thought. The vibrant hues and blue skies of summer giving way to overcast clouds and trees fading into brilliant reds and oranges and finally into nothing at all, when December came, and with it, linen-white blankets of snow. The florals that clung to the air beneath the summer sun dissipated with the bite of the autumn air, replaced with the scent of wood-burning smoke as the resident hearths were lit to chase away the cold, falling leaves dancing on the breeze and along the cobblestone streets. It all felt very much like home. Which is exactly where Garreth stood, half-drinking a tea now gone cold and scribbling notes into a journal that was stuffed as full as the mind of the man who filled its pages, splayed about on the kitchen countertop. The windows were open despite the roaring flames that crackled and popped in the fireplace, the curtains fluttering in the breath of an early morning wind. Garreth wasn’t fond of the curtains, to put it kindly, likely once a lovely ivory and now yellowed with age. Horribly outdated, and left behind by the home's previous owners but his wife had insisted they gave the place charm, so they had stayed, framing the old paned glass window that seemed to never be streak free no matter how often they scourgified. Garreth’s attention was drawn away from a scrawled note on adjusting the preparation of alihotsy to suit lesser needs (dried rather than chopped?), to their family cat outside the window, pouncing upon something hidden in the wilted and brittle remains of his wifes garden which had succumbed to the changing season. He thought he ought to clear it out, so it was ready for his wife to till and bring back to its usual glory the moment the ground thawed come spring. Or perhaps he ought to build her a proper greenhouse, so his green-thumbed wife could have all of the fresh produce and flowering blooms that she pleased, year-round. Adelaide would like that, he thought, and he knew Mr. Brown of Tomes & Scrolls carried the spellcrafts, and surely the materials would not break the bank with each of their comfortable salaries. With his face falling into an excitable grin that he swallowed with another glug of his tea, should his wife stumble in and catch him with one of his masterful plans, he scribbled a note to remind himself to stop by and visit Tom in the sparse open spaces of his journal after work.
Tea cup halfway to his lips, he watched with an amused grin as the cat bolted off again, into the dying brush and off to wreak havoc elsewhere. Hopefully, to The Magic Neep, where it had become a thorn in old Mr. Teasdale’s side. The usually jovial herbologist had blamed the small beast for the destruction of his fluxweed crop on more than one occasion. Garreth had tried to defend his wife's beloved feline, with the entirely logical deduction that there was no way the old man could prove it was indeed their family pet, but his wife had shushed him, offering apologies and promises to bring over some of her esteemed ginger cakes as recompense in order to keep the neighbourhood peace.
Saving the neighbourhood peace was growing to be one of Adelaide’s talents, helped by her enthusiasm for time spent in the heart of the home - the kitchen. Always delivering treats and sweets to their neighbours, and most often, Mr. Pippin, and of course on behalf of Garreth. Who had more than taken advantage of the short distance between their home and the potions shop, eager for spirited conversations with a man as enthusiastic about potions as he was. Only a small footbridge separated their home and the shop, and Garreth Weasley was as much a permanent accessory in the shop as the sign on the door, his wife soothing the scowl of its proprietor at his constant interruptions of his work with hot meals and warm pastries.
Adelaide Weasley was always welcome, and her husband was welcome in the way a father swears he doesn't care for the family pet, but never moves it from its nap when it curls up in his favourite chair.
Garreth had only just slipped the loose bits of parchment back between the pages of his journal, when his wife strolled into the kitchen, hair tied neatly behind her head in her usual plait, and fussing with the loose fabric of her blouse. He allowed his cup to fall into the hot, soapy water, mindless to the way it began to clean itself amongst the breakfast dishes, with his attention entirely on his beautiful wife and the contemplative scowl on her face.
He wrinkled his nose at the sight of her pulling her blouse over the soft swell of her stomach, concealing it away with the ruffles and lace. He leant against the sink with an amused grin, green eyes following the way she poked and prodded at herself.
“You know…” He began, with a strong arm reaching out to pull her close, wrapping her up in his embrace, his head instinctively tilting down to trail chaste kisses along the slope of her neck. “... You can’t hide our good news away forever, or else people may question where you’ve got a baby from when it arrives.” His tone was light, Teasing. Even if it took every ounce of his self-restraint to not take out the entire front page of the prophet to announce the news that they were going to be parents, Garreth respected his wife’s choice to delay the celebrations. It was her body in the end, though that didn’t save her from his affectionate jabs due to his own impatience in the safety and privacy of their own home.
He hummed happily, forehead resting where her shoulder met her neck when she reciprocated his lazy morning affections with her hands in his hair, a giggle fluttering from her lips as she kissed his temple.
“Yes, well. Evie said that once people know, they’ll be poking and prodding at me all of the time and I don’t fancy that much.”
Evie. Evangeline. His wife’s best friend from their days at school and who had two children of her own already, after having settled down with her childhood sweetheart the moment they had graduated. Adelaide seldom did anything without her ever-present companions counsel and when Garreth had proposed, he had half-expected his lovely bride-to-be to tell him to Hold That Thought whilst she ran off to ask for her friend's opinion on the matter.
(She hadn’t, and instead, the memory of her standing flushed and teary-eyed amongst the foxgloves and forget-me-nots whilst he slipped the modest ring on her finger during her gleeful acceptance of his self-proclaimed paltry offer would live at the forefront of his mind for the rest of his days.)
Now, it seemed the two had all the more to talk about now that his wife was well on her way to join her friend in motherhood. Garreth was grateful for the feminine support through his wife's first pregnancy, even if it called for a few interrupted meals whilst Adelaide explained in detail her varying symptoms to Evangeline’s head in the fireplace. “Mm. Well we don’t want you being poked by anyone other than me now do we?” Garreth chuckled; Smiling and savouring the lingering scent of lavender and bergamot from her shampoo as he brought himself back to height, pausing only to steal a kiss from her pouting lips, soothing her look of mild disapproval before helping her into her cloak. “Come on then, the young and impressionable minds of our students thirst for our wisdom.”
***
A choice to live within the faculty quarters of the school or to live outside of its majestic halls was given to each member of the general staff and faculty of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry. Garreth had taken full advantage of the former during his first few years as a Professor, putting every knut that would have been spent on room and board away on a dream for a potions shop with his name on the front. Then Adelaide Oakes came gliding into the picture. A lovely little thing who was sweet and kind and laughed at all of his jokes. Even the ones he knew weren’t his very best work as he slumped over potions essays that had him feeling the slightest twinge of sympathy for the grizzled Auror that had once held his post (and who still haunted his nightmares every now and again when he was struggling with a more difficult brew).
Adelaide had transferred into the role of Magical Home Economics Professor, A class meant to prepare magical children for the mundane realities of living in a magical world, when the elderly Professor Spindle had finally thrown in the towel and retired to an island in the Gulf of Finland.
Garreth had only just settled into his fate in academia when Adelaide came around (Again. She so loved reminding him of all the classes and moments they had shared during their own schooldays that he had seemingly paid little mind too. He equally loved reminding her that his mind had been very busy becoming the next great potioneer thank you very much.) A year spent inside the castle he now called home for a second time, only this time, he was educating the next generation of magical minds in the world of cauldrons and brews.
Playful banter, a few shared butterbeers in the staff-room, a decidedly romantic candle-lit dinner at the Three Broomsticks and a terribly, terribly awkward disclosing of a workplace relationship to his own bloody Aunt later, and the rest was well and truly history. Garreth found himself lamenting the years he spent Not Noticing her whilst they attended school together. Missed opportunities of fumbling around in broom cupboards and blushing faces over sickly sweet teas at Steepleys. (Though Garreth had tried using his Weasley charm to coax his now wife into a broom cupboard rendezvous now and again when their days were especially dull, but his respectful wife had kept things firmly over-the-clothes.) He lamented, even, not taking his fathers job offer to work at the Ministry. If only because it may have put her in his path far sooner whilst she worked alongside her Uncle Rowland in the Goblin Liaison office. The money Garreth had tucked away inside of his vault at Gringotts had swiftly been reallocated to other worthwhile endeavours. Gifts and dinners out, weekend holidays and yearly passes to the Magical Arboreal Gardens in London. Everything a girl like Adelaide deserved when being courted. Then, the modest sum of gold had dwindled after a sweaty-palmed conversation with Rowland Oakes had given Garreth his blessing, and he bought her a ring. (Not nearly as grand as she deserved, but she had gasped and cried as she stared at it on her finger, so he must have done alright.) The rest of it disappeared with a wedding and a honeymoon, and the scant remains of the gold were scraped together with his brides and spent on their home.
More often than not, Garreth sat staring at the wall in the office he had spent much of his youth sneaking into, reminiscing on where his life had ended up – and deciding whether or not he regretted the choices he had made that had brought him here and now. His dreams of owning a potions shop seemed further away than ever before, though it still sat dormant in the back of his mind, and weaved its way between the lines of his journal. On a particularly optimistic day, He had even painstakingly filled out a patent application for his perfected Weasley’s Wonder Tonic. Though the high that had carried him through every line of legal jargon transfigured itself into a different sort of joy, when his wife had joined him in the little nook that served as his workstation, delicate hands holding her contraceptive potion and pink lips whispering “What if we started trying?” Garreth had beamed, A Winter Baby. Now wouldn’t that be nice? and took her blushing and giggling to bed. The application had been tucked away in the pages of his most private thoughts, and he barely paid it any mind. Thus, despite the dull longing that seemed to capture him on a Bad Day, the thought of his wife - bright-eyed and giggling by the fire, cheeks pink from the firewhiskey they had shared to celebrate their students surviving exam season their first year teaching together or the way she hummed The Enchanted Garden whilst she baked barefoot in the kitchen - soothed whatever doubts had crept their way into his mind, warming him faster than a pepper-up. Garreth Weasley had simply traded one dream for another, and would not trade a single moment, nor take a single step in another direction if offered the choice.

Headcanons and a short fanfic for Nikaido Ren aka the Watchman🤩
His favorite food is green tea ice cream and egg and leek dumplings.
He often sneaks out to feed stray cats and dogs that are near the bodyguards apartments so that no one can see him and tease him about it.
He's really good at cooking but if often shy to do so for his colleagues or friends. He usually cooks a bunch and leaves it in the staff room with a note for them to help themselves.
He goes for dance lessons of all kinds as a form of exercise and he's really good at it.
He loves poetry and often recites his favorites to his friends or writes his own.
A date with a heavenly wolf...
Y/N was a new bodyguard that started working for Dainippon bank and for Metsudo Katahara. Their talent impressed him to have them work directly with the heavenly wolves and with Nikaido Ren.
He wasn't thrilled about this as it meant that this would take his time away from his duties but he didn't want to upset the master.
"I know only you could do this for me, Ren, seeing as you are only the best~", Katahara cooed.
Nikaido: "...yes...of course, master!"
The old man knew how to pull at the heart strings of his bodyguards since they did adore him and respected him so much.
Nikaido waited outside for Y/N as they would start their training together, making sure his suit was in immaculate condition.
Y/N quickly headed down to where they were told Nikaido would be waiting for him.
"...good morning, I'm Y/N...and you must be Nikaido Ren...", Y/N said gently before bowing to him.
"Yes, the master has asked me to personally train you...so don't disappoint the master...he has a lot of faith in you", he said gently before taking off his suit jacket and took a fighting stance, "...let's begin".
Y/N nodded and began sparring with him.
A few months would go by to where Nikaido was most satisfied with how well Y/N was doing at their training and informed the master as well.
He walked with Y/N to the dining hall for the bodyguards, "...you've been doing so well, Y/N...especially as my first student", Nikaido said calmly as he looked at the menu for lunch and decided what he wanted to eat, he was very fussy after all.
"Thank you! I'd love to thank you for taking me under your wings...how about we go out for dinner?", Y/N asked curiously.
"...I appreciate that but I prefer eating my own cooking, I can cook for us instead...tomorrow night works well for me", he said calmly.
Y/N was about to protest but then just nodded, "...at least let me buy all the groceries".
"Fine, I'll send you the list...", Nikaido said before taking a seat and helping himself to a simple meal.
Y/N smiled happily and nodded, "That's a date!".
It took a moment for Nikaido to register what Y/N had just said and then blushed, "...well...I guess so...", he said softly.
Y/N would show up to Nikaido's apartment with the groceries and was shocked to see that he had already finished the cooking.
"I thought I'd help you to cook but you're already done", Y/N said with a pout they handed him the bag of groceries.
"I wouldn't allow that especially since its the first time you've come to my home...and that too on our first date", Nikaido said with a small smile before placing the bag on the countertop in the kitchen and lit some candles on the dining took table.
"...oh right...first...date", Y/N blushed as they reminded themselves of what they called this meeting, "I brought dessert too...some green tea ice cream".
Nikaido raised his brows in surprise, "...that's my favorite...thank you".
They would sit down and eat the amazing meal that Nikaido made happily.
Y/N praised him and he would just shrug it off but he truly did like the compliments since he didn't get to cook for others often.
Soon they moved to the couch and had some ice cream, "...I think this was a lovely first date, Y/N...perhaps on a second date...we could have a picnic once the weather is cooler", Nikaido said gently, "...if you're willing".
Y/N smiled and nodded, "...I love picnics", the said gently before giving him a kiss on the cheek.
He smiled in response, "...good".

Plus, they retain the fiber from fruits and vegetables, which is great for digestion.

How to Choose the Right Blender for Your Juicing Needs
Power and Speed Settings
When it comes to juicing, power matters. Look for a blender with at least 600 watts of power for optimal performance. Multiple speed settings also allow you to adjust the blending intensity depending on the ingredients.
Blade Design and Material
The blades are the heart of your blender. Stainless steel blades are durable and sharp enough to cut through tough ingredients like carrots and ice.

Multiple Speed Settings
Different speeds are useful for handling various ingredients. For soft fruits like berries, a low speed is perfect, while harder ingredients like apples may require a higher setting.
Easy Cleanup make perfect juice every time
A blender that’s easy to clean is a must. Removable blades and dishwasher-safe parts can save you a lot of time and effort.

Always wash your produce thoroughly to remove dirt and pesticides. For smoother juice, peel fruits and vegetables with thick skins like oranges and beets.make perfect juice every time
Cutting Ingredients to the Right Size
Cutting your ingredients into smaller pieces ensures that they blend more evenly, reducing the risk of overloading your blender.
The Right Ratio of Fruits to Vegetables
A balanced ratio of fruits to vegetables is key to making juice that’s both delicious and nutritious. Too much fruit can lead to excess sugar, while too many greens might make the juice bitter.
Top Expert Tips for Making Juice with an Electrical Blender
Tip 1: Use Frozen Ingredients for Smoother Juice
Frozen fruits and veggies can give your juice a smoother texture, similar to a slushy. This also helps keep your drink cold without the need for ice.
Tip 2: Layer Ingredients for Even Blending
Start with liquids like water or coconut milk at the bottom, followed by softer ingredients, and place the harder ones on top. This layering helps everything blend smoothly.
Tip 3: Blend in Short Bursts for Better Consistency
Instead of running the blender continuously, blend in short bursts. This technique helps to break down the ingredients more evenly and prevents overheating.

FAQs
How much power does a blender need for juicing?
A blender with at least 600 watts of power is recommended for juicing. Higher-powered blenders (like 1000 watts or more) are better suited for tough ingredients like leafy greens, ice, and nuts.
Can you make juice from leafy greens in a regular blender?

How do you prevent foaming in blender-made juice?
To reduce foaming, avoid over-blending the juice and try adding ingredients with less fiber, like cucumbers or citrus fruits. Blending in short bursts and using a strainer can also help remove excess foam.
Is it better to use fresh or frozen fruit for juicing?
Both fresh and frozen fruits work well for juicing. Fresh fruit provides maximum flavor, while frozen fruit can create a thicker, smoother texture. Using frozen fruit also helps keep your juice cold without adding ice.
How do you keep juice from separating after blending?
Juice naturally separates over time. To minimize this, blend the ingredients thoroughly and store the juice in an airtight container. Giving it a quick shake before drinking helps to mix it back together.

Create the Perfect Retreat: Tips for Designing a Relaxing Master Bath Suite
Designing a Relaxing Master Bath Suite: Tips and Tricks
When it comes to designing your dream master bath suite, there are several tips and tricks you can use to create a relaxing retreat. Firstly, consider incorporating natural elements such as wood or stone into your design. This will give your space an organic feel that is both calming and luxurious. Additionally, choosing soft colors like neutral tones or light blues can help create a serene atmosphere in your master bathroom.
Creating the Perfect Retreat with Color Schemes for Your Master Bathroom
Another important aspect of creating a relaxing master bath suite is selecting the right color scheme. You may want to choose soothing shades of blue or green, which have been shown to promote feelings of calmness and tranquility. Alternatively, warm neutrals like beige or cream can also provide a cozy and inviting ambiance. Whatever color palette you choose, make sure it reflects your personal style while still maintaining a sense of harmony throughout the space.
How to Choose the Right Materials for Your Dream Master Bath Suite
Selecting the right materials for your master bath suite is essential for achieving a high-end look and feel. For flooring, consider using porcelain tile or hardwood floors, which offer durability and elegance. When it comes to countertops, opt for premium surfaces like marble or quartz, which not only look beautiful but also stand up well against daily wear and tear. And don't forget about fixtures - invest in high-quality faucets and showerheads to elevate your master bathroom to new heights.
The Latest Technology in Master Bathrooms: Smart Features You'll Love
In today's world, technology has become increasingly integrated into our homes, including our master bath suites. From smart mirrors that display news feeds and weather updates to voice-activated assistants that control lights and temperature settings, there are plenty of ways to incorporate innovative features into your space. These technological advancements not only add convenience but also enhance the overall experience of your master bathroom.
Incorporating Natural Light into Your Master Bath Suite for a Spa-Like Atmosphere
Natural light plays a significant role in creating a spa-like atmosphere in your master bath suite. Consider installing large windows or skylights to allow ample sunlight to enter the room. You may even want to install a glass shower enclosure to further illuminate the space. By infusing your master bathroom with natural light, you can achieve a peaceful and rejuvenating environment that feels like a true oasis.
Finding Inspiration from Luxury Master Bathrooms Around the World
For many homeowners, finding inspiration for their master bath suite can be challenging. One way to spark creativity is by looking at luxury master bathrooms around the world. From Japanese onsen bathtubs to Italian marble vanities, there are countless designs and styles to draw inspiration from. Whether you prefer modern minimalism or classic opulence, exploring these stunning spaces can help guide your own design decisions and ensure that your master bath suite is truly one-of-a-kind.

Wreckless - It's a Brick House
*Warning Adult Content*
Finnegan
The sidewalk isn't cracked, it's nicely done stone blocks and I was right, there's a nice two-car garage just on the other side of the driveway.
Do I wish it was attached? Maybe.
Is it a deal breaker? No.
Ann opens the double entryway doors with a flourish.
"Gleaming hardwoods throughout, a gorgeous chefs kitchen and a finished basement. Three large bedrooms and two and a half baths."
Yes, I can read.
"There's an attic just waiting to be finished. Laundry is currently upstairs but there are also hookups in the basement. It would be easy to put an extra bath down there if you'd like. A beautifully landscaped yard, almost half an acre, which in this area is unheard of."
I can't listen to her and think at the same time.
"Ann?"
"Yes?"
"I'd like to walk through it, just me and Emmett, please. It'll be much quicker and I know you have other things to do. The kitchen is through here?"
"Yes, of course, go ahead," she stutters as I walk through the dining room.
I want to see the kitchen first, I have no time for a kitchen remodel.
Oh, it's actually nice. Really nice.
Quartz countertops I'm guessing and the appliances look fairly new and high end.
It has a nice island and then there's a back door and I pass into a hallway that must be right behind the steps.
There's a room to my left that's lined with bookshelves on two walls.
"Library?"
Emmett peeks over my shoulder.
"Would be a great office, yeah."
He's right.
I hope they're not counting this as a bedroom but I don't want to assume.
I'll check.
It has windows overlooking the garden and it looks beautiful and like a lot of work.
I ignore it because I won't be dealing with it, that's what gardeners are for.
I continue down the hall and there's a lovely half bath, a closet and then we're on the right side of the house in the living room.
"Oh, a fireplace."
"This place is huge."
It's not huge.
"Looks bigger without furniture."
It's bigger than his place, for sure.
Big enough to grow into.
"Think we can fit a reclining couch, Finnegan?"
He's teasing, there's plenty of space but I humor him.
"Of course. Probably two."
We go upstairs and there are in fact three bedrooms including a really nice master with his and his closets and a big en suite bathroom.
"This closet is big enough to be Marten's room," he says and he's not wrong.
"He can have a bedroom, either one. The other can be for guests."
'Or a playroom. I could have a playroom like Rhys'.
"Who's gonna clean this huge house?"
That's Emmett, always practical.
"We'll hire someone. And a gardener too, unless you want to put in a pool. It looks pretty flat and there's already a privacy fence."
"No pool, can I go see the garden?"
"Right behind you."
We head downstairs and outside and he walks around almost in a daze.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, it's beautiful."
He sounds a bit sad or maybe it's more melancholy.
I walk up and put my arm around his waist.
"What are you thinking about?"
"My mom. I've thought about her more this year than the last couple put together but she had such a green thumb and we had a lovely yard. It was only like a quarter this size? Maybe not even that? She had rose bushes just like these and it's beautiful. She would have loved this."
"Maybe it's a sign."
"Maybe. Let's check out this finished basement. Mine's officially finished but it's not living space, you know? Might work for a gym though."
I know exactly what he means.
The door down here is locked so we have to go back through the kitchen and downstairs that way.
We were wrong, it's really finished.
Well, half of it.
The space under the kitchen and dining room is all mechanical stuff and storage but the right side is nice.
High ceilings.
Emmett is going around peeking and opening all the doors.
"Laundry. A lot more convenient to keep it upstairs."
"Yeah, definitely."
I just wonder if...
"Emmett? You don't have a dark room, do you?"
"A dark room? Only in my dreams. I don't use film. I would love to but I don't."
"Would this work? There aren't any windows and it even has a sink, and power. Is it big enough?"
"It would be perfect, actually. And what else down here? Gym could definitely work. Or a play room for you and your toys? We could split the room and do both or put one up in the extra bedroom or attic."
I shrug.
"Not sure but it's nice having options."
"It is. It's a lot of space."
"Do you like it, Emmett?"
"I do. I love brick and the garden is..."
Now it's his turn to shrug.
"Does the kitchen work for you?"
"Yep. You?"
He does most of the cooking.
I get a look.
"I'll manage. Let me look at the furnace, electrical and plumbing."
I have no idea exactly what he's looking for so I just follow him around.
The house definitely has all those things.
"You do realize that I don't care if something needs to be replaced, Emmett."
"I know. It seems like a nice house Finnegan but you need an inspection. It's empty, that probably means you'll be in quicker."
What's with all the 'you'?
I want to hear more 'we'.
"I hope so."
"It's a fairly busy street."
My smile falters a bit.
I'm not madly in love with the traffic.
"Yeah. True. But how much time do we spend in the front yard? It's quiet in here. Is the neighborhood okay?"
"Yeah, we'll be fine. I don't mind the street, easier to get to 695. I just wanted to make sure you didn't."
He sits down in the middle of the floor and I join him.
"It's just a lot, Finnegan. You leaving, coming back, the beach, the break-in, the wreck and car and now this. I feel like I'm dizzy."
"I get that. I'm a little dizzy too which is why I'm trying to get settled. Should we do it, Emmett? What do you think? Will you live here with me? It's gonna be our house, Emmett, not mine. Ours."
He sighs but he's smiling.
"How can I turn down an offer like that?"
I smile, jump up and do a little dance.
When Emmett stands up I grab him, give him a kiss and then run upstairs to find Ann.
"Okay. Offer time."

Bad Parenting Chapter 2: Chaos for Breakfast
Series: Bad Parenting
Fandom: The Royal Romance/The Royal Heir
Pairings for series: (Riley x Liam x Max) + Riley x Drake
Featuring: Leo, Oliva, M!OC Hudson Rys and F!OC Lilith Nevrakis
Rating: PG
Warnings for this chapter: mild language
Word Count: 2,867
A/N: This chapter indulges my HC of Max as the domestic one of the group!
My other stuff: Master List.
Original series this spun off from: Bad Romance. More specifically Bad Romance Disney Adventure.
After the events in Disney Adventure, Leo finds himself in possession of his thirteen-year-old son Hudson for the summer. Unfortunately for him, Hudson isn’t that impressed with Leo’s newfound desire to be a father.
Being back in Cordonia stirs up old feelings for Leo and ignites new ones for Hudson. Leos strives to reignite an old flame, but Olivia is busy with her own parenting struggles as her aunt’s imprisonment made her the legal guardian to Lucretia’s daughter Lilith, who has plenty of Nevrakis attitude of her own.
Lilith Nevrakis is borrowed, and retrofitted as Olivia’s cousin rather than sibling, with loving permission from @harleybeaumont. She is also much younger here.
Leo woke to the smell of coffee and bacon and the sounds of dishes clattering, children laughing and people talking. He climbed out of bed, hurried through teeth brushing and the relieving of his bladder then wandered down the hallway and into the great room where the open floor plan meant that the living room, dining room and kitchen basically faded into each other.
Max was standing in the kitchen, pulling homemade muffins out of the oven. “Good morning, Leo! Want a muffin? I made blueberry, cranberry, chocolate chip and banana nut. You can have one of each if you want!”
The muffin tin in Max’s oven mitted hand clattered to one of the stone countertops as he lowered it onto a cooling rack.
The kitchen had exploded with activity. It was alive with noise and activity.
Liam walked calmly out of the master bedroom and into the chaos completely unphased. He was immaculate, as always, perfectly pressed suit, every hair in place, briefcase firmly in hand.
Max thrust a coffee mug into his hands, “Just the way you like it, babe. Your plate is ready, it’s on the table, next to Ellie.”
Liam gave Max a smile and quick peck on the lips as thanks before setting his briefcase down and taking his seat at the table with a smile. “Good morning, everyone!” He said brightly.
“Good morning, my love.” Riley was seated on the other side of Ellie, between her and Xander. She leaned around their daughter to kiss Liam good morning then gave both Ellie and Xander a flurry of kisses as she got up from the table, scooping the last of her food into her mouth as she walked to the sink to deposit her plate in it. She then hurried to both highchairs to kiss her little one’s goodbye before grabbing her glass off the table and walking back toward the sink.
She nodded at Leo from across the room, “Good morning!”
“Riley, I made you a lunch, don’t forget to take it!” Max thrust a paper bag in front of her face. “You can’t keep skipping meals!”
“I don’t skip meals!” She protested as she tipped her glass of orange juice up and drained it. She took the bag and sat it down on the counter as she rummaged around in her attaché case, “Do you have a copy of my itinerary for the day?”
Max produced a laminated, bullet pointed list with face to face meetings highlighted in blue, zoom meetings in green and time sensitive tasks in yellow.
“Thank you love bug!” Riley rewarded him with a kiss as she pulled the itinerary out of his hands.
“I wanted waffles!” Xander started to wail from his seat at the table.
“Right here!” Max slid a plateful of waffles in front of him, complete with a smattering of blueberries and a dollop of whipped cream on top.
“Waffles are gross! I want-“
A plateful of chocolate chip pancakes cut Ellie off mid-sentence. Her face lit up, “Thank you Poppa!”
“Drink your milk, Ellie!” Max said, then turned back to the adults as Drake stumbled into the room looking rushed because he’d woken up late, “Drake, you want breakfast?”
“No thanks.”
“I have bacon-“
“No time, Max, I have to go!” Drake said as he filled his travel mug with coffee.
Max immediately threw together a bacon, lettuce and cheddar sandwich with mayo as he asked, “Tomorrow’s your mom’s birthday, have you called her lately?”
“Max, stop trying to mother me!” Drake scolded, but he took the proffered sandwich as he kissed Riley goodbye. “Love you, babe.”
“Love you, cuddle bear.” She pulled away to shove papers into her attaché case.
Drake grabbed a muffin and balanced it on top of his sandwich.
“Don’t forget about your mom’s birthday!” Max called as Drake headed out the door.
“I’ll call her!” He promised as he stepped out into the palace hallway.
“Leo, grab a plate, there’s plenty of food!” Max said as he spooned yogurt into Jace’s opened mouth.
“I’m not sure there’s room.” Leo protested.
“Here, take my seat!” Liam said as he rose, “I have to get going.”
Liam made the rounds, kissing children and Max and Riley before retrieving his briefcase.
“Max, can you call down to housekeeping today and tell them to use just a tad less starch in my casual business shirts? I felt like a fucking statue they were so stiff this last time! Oh, and could you order me some more socks? I swear, every pair I pulled out of the drawer today had holes in them!” Liam said as he leaned over to kiss him goodbye.
“Yes, and here, take some coffee with you!” Max shoved a thermos at him.
Riley was right behind Liam as he opened the door when Max caught up with them, “Riley! You forgot your lunch!”
“Sorry, and thank you!” She told him.
“I’m going to call you at one o’clock to make sure you remembered to eat!” Max said.
“Okay, okay! Love you, bye!”
Hudson wandered into the kitchen rubbing his eyes, “What’s for breakfast?”
“What do you like kid?” Max asked as he cut up more French toast for Jax.
Jace was banging his sippy cup on his highchair tray as he babbled loudly. The corgis ran around the bottom of the hair chair, yipping and begging for more sausage to be dropped.
Xander was singing at the top of his lungs about four little speckled frogs, Jax was making car noises as he pushed apple slices around his highchair tray and Ellie was yelling at Xander to shut up.
“Uh…” Hudson’s eyes widened as he took in all the food. There were waffles, pancakes and French toast, bacon, sausage and ham, fried and scrambled eggs, toast and muffins, cereal boxes stood open next to the sink, milk, coffee, and carafes of both apple and orange juice littered the counter.
“If there’s nothing you like, I can make you something.” Max offered as he gave Jace more scrambled eggs, which the toddler immediately tossed to the floor and squealed in delight as the dogs went crazy racing around to get to them.
“No, that’s cool uncle Max, there’s plenty here, I can get it myself.” Hudson replied as he started loading food onto a plate.
Max started clearing away the dishes. He rinsed them in the sink then loaded them into the dishwasher.
“Ellie, if you’re done, wash your hands and put your plate in the sink. Your tutor will be here shortly.” Max said.
Ellie grumbled as she put her plate in the sink. She washed her hands.
“You too, Xan.”
Xander followed Ellie to the sink and placed his plate in it. Max supervised his hand washing and drying then he sat about cleaning up the little boys. He wiped hands and faces, removed highchair trays and placed them on the counter to be cleaned before removing bibs and pulling each boy out his respective highchair. Max then wiped down the highchair seats.
“Max, have you eaten anything?” Leo asked.
“Oh, I eat plenty while I’m cooking and getting it ready.”
“You know the palace has a kitchen, and a dining room, you could all eat in there, or have whatever you want sent up…”
“I know.” Max replied, “But it’s not the same. These muffins are made with love, Leo! Plus, most of that was sent up from the kitchen. I just plate it up and add the finishing touches, like Xander’s whipped cream and Ellie’s chocolate chip smiley face.”
“I just watched you make Drake a fucking breakfast sandwich!”
Max shrugged, “I just assembled it.”
“You had the bacon sent up just for Drake.” Leo sounded vaguely accusatory.
Max’s eyes flicked to him as he responded, “Yeah. So?”
“So what? You….like each other now?”
Max looked up at Leo in surprise, “We’ve always liked each other! He’s my best friend roomie!”
“I….” Leo’s eyes met Hudson’s and they both suppressed a smile. Hudson might be new to everyone, but a day had been long enough for him to recognize just how unlike Drake that statement sounded.
It did sound just like Max though. Leo widened his eyes at Hudson as he hid his smile behind a coffee cup. He was gratified by the conspiratorial grin he got in return. Maybe the kid was warming up to him after all.
Max whipped out his phone and tapped furiously away, “There! Socks are ordered, housekeeping has been advised about the starch issue and Martha has been told to remind Riley to eat lunch!”
“Who’s Martha?”
“Riley’s office manager.”
“Damn, Max! You’re on top of everything!”
“Thanks, Leo! My organizational skills are second to none. Why do you think Riley hired me as her personal assistant and top advisor in the first place?”
“Uh…” Leo’s eyes flitted over to Hudson then back to Max as he tried to water down his response, “To give you a valid reason to always be around without the press having a field day?”
Max gave him a wounded look, “Wow, really? I mean, yes, that was part of it, but I have always had superior organizational skills and Riley needs that, she’s total chaos most days.”
“Yeah, I get that.” Leo chuckled fondly, “But I never pegged you as the organized type.”
“Really?” Max huffed, “Did you think that those epic, days long Beaumont bashes just threw themselves?”
“Uh…”
“DJ’s just knew to show up? Caterers? All that fucking alcohol? People to assemble the champagne towers? Staff to clean up after the horses? The invitations put themselves in the mail? Customized placards on the doors?”
Leo was stunned, “I just assumed Bert did all that!”
“Ha!” Max barked out, “My brother? Mr. Stick in the mud himself? You thought Bertrand made sure the swords were sharpened for the champagne sabering? You thought Bertrand knows where the strobe lights are stored? You thought Bertrand-“
“Ok, ok!” Leo laughed, throwing his hands up in the air, “I get it!
“Personal assistant is still my job. I just work from home now so I can be here for the kids.”
Leo raised an eyebrow, “Don’t you guys have nannies for that?”
Max scoffed, “Nannies can’t replace a loving parent, Leo. We prefer to be hands on.”
“Yeah,” Hudson interrupted with his mouth full of bacon and waffles, “That sounds like something good parents do!”
“I…” Leo’s eyes cut sidewise to Hudson. There went what little progress he’d made. “I’m just saying, Max seems to be doing all the heavy lifting in that department!”
“Nah.” Max replied as he threw a piece of chocolate chip muffin in the air then caught it in his mouth, “Liam and Riley have a whole country to run, and Drake has the queen’s guard. My job provides the most flexibility. I can run Riley’s staff and juggle her schedule in my sleep at this point. Besides, I like being home with the kids!”
“Of course, you do!” Leo chortled, “You’re a big child yourself!”
“Oh, so real men don’t fuck with their kids, is that what you’re saying?” Hudson had dropped his fork onto his plate to glare across the table at Leo.
“What? No! I didn’t mean….I just meant….” Leo’s head swung around to take in Max, the kids running amuck, the food still strewn across the counters, “You know what? I can admit when I’m wrong. Max had to have been up before everyone else to get all this food ready and make sure everyone else’s day got off to a good start. It’s not a frivolous thing. It’s work. I’m sorry, Max.”
“It’s ok, Leo. You haven’t been around in a while. Things change. People change, they grow and mature and move into different stages of life.” Max said as he put the cereal away in the pantry and the milk and juice back into the fridge.
“I see that.” Leo admitted.
“Uncle, Max?”
“Yeah, Hudson?” Max answered.
“Can you show me around the palace today? I want to see everything!”
Max’s eyes went to Leo, “Uh…sure, but your dad would be even better at that. He grew up here, you know.”
Hudson’s shoulders slumped, “Fine. I’ll go get dressed.”
The two men watched him leave. Leo turned to Max and asked, “Maybe you could help me out with this parenting thing? You seem to have it down.”
“We’ll all help you, Leo. We’re family.”
“You really consider me family, Max?”
“Of course, I do! You’re Liam’s brother! Listen, I know you make fun of all of…this.” Max gestured around vaguely at everything. “But Liam is my husband in every way that matters. We’ve been together for over a decade now. We’re not just playing around and even though the official, legal marriage is between Riley and Liam, we all love each other, deeply! I’m not just a plaything to them, Leo. They both love me as much as I love them, and we are a family!”
“How the fuck does she do it?” Leo asked.
“Do what?” He didn’t have to ask who she was; Leo was talking about Riley.
“Bringing everyone together like that. Never in my life have I been able to maintain one real relationship! You and Liam juggle two each and Riley….” He trailed off, unsure exactly how many relationships Riley had in addition to Liam and Max. Drake, of course. But over the years he’d had his suspicions about Rashad.
“Well, she’s just fucking amazing, that’s how!” Max responded. He knew he and Liam would never have become a thing without her intervention. He was as grateful for that as he was for the woman herself. His life was perfect. Close to eleven years in and he was still just as stupidly in love with both of them as he had ever been. Not that it had been smooth sailing in the beginning. Anything but, actually.
“Speaking of relationships that didn’t work out…” Leo said.
Max blinked, “Were we?”
“What’s Liv up to these days?” Leo asked carefully.
Max laughed, “You’re not subtle dude. Liv is fine. You know Lucretia went to prison in Hidar?”
“What?”
“Something about being in a group that tried to overthrow the government. I don’t know. But anyway, turns out Lucretia had a teenage daughter named Lilith. Liv is her guardian now.”
“Wait, wait, wait, wait!” Leo exclaimed, “Miss I’m never having children because they’re evil little crotch goblins is raising a child?”
“Yep. For about a year now.” Max confirmed.
“I should call her!”
“Are you telling me you haven’t spoken to her in a year?”
“Well….see…last time I saw her, there was a…ah….disagreement and she…well, things were said, accusations were made, furniture was broken….I thought it was best to let her cool down for a while.”
“A while? It’s been a year! Jesus Leo! No wonder you can’t maintain a relationship!”
“Liv and I….we go all the way back, to like the age of six, ok? And things between us are…complicated.”
Max snorted, “I’ll say! Remember the time you crashed that party on the Prime Minster of Japan’s yacht because you thought Liv was there with his cousin and-“
“I don’t want to talk about that Max! It almost caused an international incident!”
“Yeah, I remember. Constantine was sooooo pissed!” Max chortled.
“It wasn’t funny! She lied to me about where she was that night, she wasn’t even on the damn yacht!”
“Yeah, well, you chose to date a crazy woman.”
Leo lifted a surprised eyebrow at that, “And you didn’t?”
“Ok, fair enough. No wonder those two are BFF’s.”
Xander and Jax ran through the room shrieking with laughter as Hudson chased them. Max laughed out loud, “Look at them bonding!”
Leo sighed heavily, “Now if I could only get him to bond with me.”
“Have you tried apologizing to the kid?”
“What?” Leo blinked at him.
“For not being around? He’s mad, Leo and he has a right to be.”
“I didn’t know how to be a dad, Max. My own dad was a piece of shit. I thought the kid would be better off without me.”
“You should tell him that.”
“Why? It doesn’t excuse a goddamn thing.”
“No. But it helps explain it a little. Hudson’s a good kid. Talk to him.”
“Yeah, maybe.”
There was a knock on the door. “Okay, that’s the tutor for Ellie and Xander. I usually give Jax and Jace a bath while the big kids are occupied. Do you want to have lunch later? I was thinking we could meet in the private family dining room and have lunch with Regina, so she can meet Hudson.”
“Sure, Max. That actually sounds good.”
“Oh, one more thing.” Max told him as he let the tutor in, “We’re having a dinner party tomorrow night and Liv will be there.”
Leo felt both dread and excitement shoot through him. If Leo Rys, the playboy prince, had ever truly loved a woman in his life, there was no doubt that woman had been Oliva Nevrakis. He just seemed incapable of making it stick, no matter how many times he’d tried.
But he was nothing if not persistent.
