𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐄𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠
Tags: Izuku x gn!reader, angst, lots of angst, I was feeling angsty, implied bakudeku?, I want what they have.
Y/n sacrifices the memory of themself to save Izuku's life. Consequences, consequences
"Izuku?" You say. No one hears you, no one knows you. Then again, you've known that already.
Even still, you can't help but try.
It's the beginning of fall, the summer breeze fading away as leaves turn from green to pretty shades of red. The window is clear when you look inside. The house is empty, though, and you assume that he must be out for patrol.
Walking down the streets of Japan dulls your senses, bit by bit. It used to be the other way around when you were still around, your senses roared and your guard was high, but here, there is no need for that. Why was it necessary, when you're nothing but a ghost in this world?
Some people call it a blessing, you call it a curse. Fantastical, magical, even. But so, so cruel.
You love it, but you despise it.
You long for it, but you're repulsed by it.
But you've never once regretted what you've had to do.
Eyes searching, your footsteps echo with purpose. Just a touch of green, even a hair. You could find him in a crowd, your eyes draw to him like bees to a hive.
You just have to look.
Izuku?
He's there, of course. Always there, with his yellow scarf, and big green eyes. There with his pretty smile you'd fallen in love with and a heart of polished gold. He's so, so beautiful, scars and all.
You reach out, maybe if you call his name, he'll hear you.
"Izuku?" You try again.
His eyes don't waver, but he's not looking at you.
"Kacchan!" He says instead, as Katsuki swats him on the head. "Idiot, it's Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight when we're on the job, shit nerd!" Katsuki snarls.
You retract your hand, as both boys breeze past you. Of course they would, you're just a spectator, after all.
"I was thinking of having Katsudon-"
"No."
"But Kacchan-"
"NO YOU UNHEALTHY FUCK."
You smile, a little sadly, but are still grateful he's safe.
He looks so happy.
"You've meddled far too much in this story." The villain whispers. "Give it up, outsider. You weren't meant to be here."
It's true. It isn't right, for you to be here. It's not your place.
"But I still wanted you." You say, voice cracking.
Your feet stumble, one after another, as you weave through the crowd, following them silently.
Stalker, your mind whispers, freak. Get a life.
It's all you've ever learnt how to do, because you never did, have a life. Just play doll fantasies and isekai aspirations.
They do end up getting katsudon for dinner, even if Katsuki's mad about it. You've always known he's had a soft spot for Izuku. You've always known the competition you were against.
In the end, what you had with Izuku wasn't substantial. No matter how much you wanted it. It's like wearing an odd pair of socks. Even if it fits, both of you didn't match.
"Ah, shit." You whisper, feeling your vision blur, as you wipe your tears away, shaking your head. A lump settles in your pharynx.
No, no, this is right. This is correct.
This was how it was meant to be.
The tears don't stop coming. "Kacchan, stop! I promise, I'll do my paperwork next week. You never let up on organisation, Kacchan. Remember that one time when we were still children? You had a space for each toy box, a drawer for each category of game..."
You look up, and they aren't there anymore. Panicking, you spent about five minutes trying to find them when you realise them already making their way out of the restaurant.
"Ah, son of a turkey leg, it's raining," Katsuki complains, as Izuku chuckles at his side.
"Turkey leg?" He teases, opening up his umbrella.
A sob bubbles up your throat. A curse, a fucking curse this is.
"He'll forget all about you, and that's okay, isn't it? It was only when you came here did everything start going wrong. Don't tell me you thought this dream could last forever. Come on, didn't you say you wanted to be a hero?"
"Izuku," You whisper, voice broken and cracked. He doesn't hear you.
They walk, and you follow. Into the plunging rain, or flames of the underworld, or on the bloody battlefield or fire or hail, you follow because that's all you've ever known how to do. You follow, even though it hurts.
"How's that injury holding up?" Katsuki asks, checking his partner over. Izuku shakes his head. "I'm alright. Was sure a scare, though. I thought I wouldn't make it."
Everything is in place, as it was always meant to be.
The rain beats down on you mercilessly, and you feel cold. So, so cold. "Shut up, nerd. Of course you did."
You know you did the right thing because it stings so badly.
But I want that too.
You sniffle, as you see them, under their stupid umbrella with their stupid faces and stupid heart eyes.
I want it so bad.
Your hand is outstretched, and you watch your hand sink through his hand, eyes glossing all over.
Why can't I have what you two have?
At the heart of it, you're just a greedy child throwing a tantrum because things didn't go your way. Impulsive, self-absorbed, Living out a fantasy that ruins a carefully crafted story with characters real enough to fall for. Even so, as you see them, happy, the memory of you wiped from this world as you're left to wander as a ghost, you cower at how out of place you were no matter how much you tried to make yourself right at home.
"Izuku..." You whisper, as they turn away. The rain is pouring, and your sweater is soaked.
"Why can't I have a happy ending too?"

Phantom bride event-Seeing you in formal wear (suit/wedding dress/whatever) Pt. 5
Characters: Epel Felmier, Ace Trappola, Riddle Rosehearts
Self-aware au
I do not take any responsibility for you reading this no matter which age group you are from!
WARNINGS: Yandere themes, religion, death, obsession, possessiveness, murder, unhealthy relationship
Oh glorious day!
Epels eyes have been blessed, his soul purified, his mind now as calm as the sea
He never thought that he would be fortunate enough just feeling your presence (aka us playing the game)
But then! THEN! You descended and are now proposing to some dead spoiled princess
After that first minute of pure awe and joy fades he notices something
Wait, you are proposing... BUT NOT TO HIM
NU-UH! Not happening
Like the poisoned apple he is supposed to represent he whispers to you that you are not the right person for this job, poisoning your mind
For his defense, you really aren't the right person for this kind of thing
You are after all the Overseer, his God!
But he can't say this because... well... the Shaftlands isn't exactly fond of his view on you
BUT if he would have had a say in this then he would steal one of Vils more special poisons, lock you in a glass cofin and hide you so that only he could see you
You just look so... so perfect that he doesn't want this moment to fade
But didn't you worry, he wouldn't dare to kill you, just make you sleep for a very long time
But for now he can only cry on the inside and save his dorm leader (without laughing about the handprint on his cheek)
Uh, maybe give him a hug after this? So he doesn't go through with his plan? Just do it! I can already see him roughly guessing how big the coffin has to be and where he can get a glass one without looking sus!
Oh no, he isn't mad
Just disappointed!
How could you have done this to him??!
But not only disappointed in you ofc
Crowley was like, oh, there are as good as no students left! Let's just sent the fu... (remembers that minors read this) *ahem* the Overseer
Now, Ace is no Queen but only a small student in Heartlabyul, a small card solider if you need another comparison
And then you stumbled like Alice into his world, out of nowhere
Of course, unlike the card soldiers back then he already knows you
Who wouldn't? From the righteous rule over the Queendom to the many legends told all around the world
You were even a God in some places!
Not going to lie, he was intimidated the first time he met you
But you were just so kind and he couldn't believe that you weren't some haughty person
And now there is no way he would give you up to some princess
He believes that he and you are made for each other
And if you are to become his homecountries official highness like they were aiming to then he would happily follow your every command and chop the heads off of those who would dare to oppose you
But he would not let you do one thing and that was this. You belonged to him! Not her! Not anyone else! Only him!
Oh no, that princess will get the death glare of her life
You know how angry he can get
Especially if it's against something from the Queen of hearts or you
And now you, yes you heard right, you need to bend to some spoiled ghosts wishes so that someone doesn't have to die
He would love to just use off with your head but the look you gave him told him not to do that
I mean, it's just a fake proposal so what could be so bad about that right? Right??! *Sighs*
Riddles nerves just dying from pure anger, that could be the bad thing
It's a miracle that he doesn't just storm off to the castle with a flamingo in hand, striking guards with it left and right (those beaks have to be hard and also: the poor flamingo)
But he keeps himself together
If you two have to go to that wedding and propose then he shall make her see that you are meant with him
That red suit of his? It weirdly matches your clothing
And also, you two look like a could, e who gets married now!
Riddle can now die as a happy man
This is more than anything he could ever dream of
If only he could be the only one who could see you like this
He will allow this, for now, but at your wedding with him there will be no fourth pair of eyes (the one marrying you two has to bet there as well after all) and if there is a fifth? Well, not for long.

requests are back therefore iiii am baaaaccckk!!!
i have decided i would like a lil sum sum both angst/hurt but obviously ending happy because i am weak without it 🤪snarky bamf girlfriend has gone missing how very dare she. she begged to leave to go shopping because she love’s watari she does but he can’t….shop bless his heart (and she enjoys nature as well cause ya know fresh air takes away sadness at least that’s what my therapist said 😌☝️) L is freaking out but not but is cause he does have feelings and is like “i regret being in a relationship” only because he’s worried to all hell. if you do like during task force don’t wanna tell you how to write cause duh but i would not mind if it’s more like a character study of L as each member interacts with him (insert tries~~ to) and help with the ongoing situation. i dunno i kinda see obviously golden retriever himbo matsuda being the one uncomfortable with the fact that L is still so stoic. would L lash out? i dunno sure. you’re probably wondering whomst would take snarky girlfriend and howst did they know about her? just a random dude and i think that’s what pisses L off its not anyone with a vendetta just some random sicko. she comes back obviously and once again you can decide that part because i did not think that far 😊. anywhoooooooo welcome back literally take a sabbatical if needed. with that being said take as long as you want with this request cause yes ✨tdlrrrr: girlfriend gone, L freaking out, task force struggling to help, girlfriend come back, literally cannot go anywhere ever again and tbh can’t leave L’s sight 🫡 God bless bestie soldier
🐸| hey girl queen pussy boss glad to see u in my reqs again😏
Why did he even let you leave?
L had never let you go out without someone keeping tabs on you at all times- usually him. Of course, nobody on the outside knew he was L, but it was just to be on the safe side. Regardless. You'd been gone for over five hours with no follow-up.
Hell. He knew he should have just stuck that tracking chip on your shoelace when he had the chance.
He really shouldn't have cared. There were far more important things to tend to, obviously. L was in the middle of the Kira investigation, for god's sake, working with just six other people, one of which he was almost completely sure was the internationally feared murderer himself. That was what should have been on his mind. And anyways, you were an adult. You were intelligent and resourceful and every bit as capable as he. If harm befell you, L had very little doubt that you wouldn't be able to make your way out. But no matter how much he tried to convince himself that what was going on around him was significantly more pressing, something in him just wouldn't accept that. There was an annoying nagging in the back of his mind reminding him that you still weren't back.
L really couldn't stand you leaving to begin with. What did you need to go shopping for Watari for, anyway? The man looked just fine in his professional attire, L thought. But you had insisted that Watari needed more up-to-date clothing and a wider selection of outfits in general, and L, knowing it would be useless to argue with you, had simply let you leave. But it couldn't possibly take that long to buy clothes for a man three times your age, right? Then again, L wouldn't know. He'd never even set foot in a shopping center- his trusty white shirt and blue jeans had served him just fine for years. Why had he even gotten in a relationship to begin with? If he had never met you, he wouldn't have to feel this way. That would have been much more preferable.
Oh, please. He didn't mean a word of that and it was impossible to convince himself that he did. L knew he was really starting to panic if he was thinking like this.
The members of the task force themselves also seemed to notice your absence despite them not knowing you very well. The loss of the atmosphere of arrogance and lack of sarcastic remarks was not missed by anyone- which prompted the most eager (and the most tone-deaf) member of the group, Matsuda, to ask about your extended absence.
"Hey, L- I mean, Ryuzaki?" Matsuda carefully stepped towards the detective, whose blank expression was beginning to falter. "You know, Y/N's been gone a while... do you think everything's okay?"
So even Matsuda had noticed, L realized. That didn't seem good- but he was determined to keep it together, and he definitely didn't feel like talking about it with Matsuda.
"She's fine," L replied, a little too sharply, and Matsuda backed up a bit. "That's unimportant right now. How close are we to formulating a plan to infiltrate Yotsuba directly?"
"Oh- yeah. My bad." Matsuda scurried away, leaving L to mull over your whereabouts. Assuming shopping wasn't supposed to take this long as he'd suspected, there were several possibilities. Perhaps you'd been taken was one he was a bit concerned about- you didn't look very strong at first glance, and of course most people would consider you quite attractive. But L more doubted this than didn't- you weren't an inexperienced fighter, and you were more than capable of fighting off anyone that approached you the wrong way.
Next thought- maybe there had been a situation at the shop you'd gone to? Maybe someone had burst through the door with a gun and held everyone hostage- but L didn't think that was likely, either. Japan was so strict about who could have a gun that it was almost impossible for a regular citizen to obtain one- and definitely not someone crazy enough to hold a bunch of people hostage. Third scenario.
Okay, removing all ideas of foul play- there were lots of potential reasons why you weren't back yet that didn't involve you getting kidnapped or killed. Maybe you just ran into a friend at the store and stuck around with them to catch up. Maybe traffic was just bad- it had been drizzling all day, anyway. He knew you had a penchant for things like trees and birds- perhaps you had just stopped at a nearby park or something.
Wait- what if you'd run into someone else? A new person? Someone who wasn't so... reclusive. Quirky. Reserved. Odd. L wouldn't be surprised if you had just found someone you fancied more- someone like you had tons of options, more than L cared to admit at the moment. Maybe you'd wanted to get away from him for once and accepted a date request from this other person. Maybe you'd found them fun, fascinating, attractive. Someone like that would probably be much appreciated by you when all you did was spend time with L and his... personality.
L decided to stop himself there. He was going to worry himself into a frenzy if he kept that up. No, next.
Maybe Watari's wardrobe actually did need updating- and badly, for you to be gone this long. When was the last time L had seen the elderly man out of that stately suit and hat, anyway...?
"Ryuzaki?"
L snapped out of his thoughts and slowly spun around in his chair to face Detective Yagami, who was eyeing L with a furrowed brow. "Is everything alright? You seem to be in a bit of a trance..."
"Yes, yes, I'm fine." L averted his eyes and waved his hand dismissively, turning back around before Soichiro saw his normally calm visage waver. Unfortunately, Soichiro's son stood right beside his father; L could feel Light's eyes burning into the back of his head.
"Dad's right; you seem a little off," Light added, stepping around L's chair so that he could see L's face. "We're making pretty good progress with Yotsuba, if that's what you're worried about- we've got a couple of leads-"
"That's good." L interrupted, and Light cocked his head at the detective, a little put off. "Keep it up."
Light turned around and began to wander back over to the rest of the task force, watching L's back from the corner of his eye. When he was face-to-face with his colleagues again, he brought up L's unusual demeanor, lowering his voice. "I know this might not be a great time, but have you all noticed anything a little odd about Ryuzaki today?"
Soichiro nodded in agreement. "Yes, I have... he seems a bit- dare I say- distracted." He kept his voice barely audible as to not attract the attention of the enigmatic detective just a few feet away from where the group was huddled.
"I noticed it too; it's unlike him," Aizawa added in a businesslike tone. "Although I'd rather stay on task than discuss Ryuzaki, it's honestly unsettling..."
"He must be very much so if we can tell," Light decided. "I mean, Ryuzaki obviously hides a lot under the surface- so if we can see it, something must be really bothering him."
"I know, right?" Matsuda exhaled, seeming relieved that he hadn't been the only one that had noticed L's unusual behavior. "I even went and asked him about it."
"Straight out?" Soichiro looked startled. "Matsuda, good grief."
"No, no- not straight straight out," Matsuda hurriedly amended, shaking his head wildly. "I just asked him about Y/N, and he kind of snapped at me and I came back over here," he explained quickly.
Light snapped his fingers, coming to a realization. "Of course- Y/N is what's worrying him. Have you noticed how long it's been since we've heard from her? Ryuzaki must be fretting over her whereabouts."
Soichiro turned to Light, an understanding expression on his face as he thought over this. "Right. We already know the two of them have... a relationship of sorts, so it's only natural for someone to be concerned- especially someone like Ryuzaki."
"I can't imagine why he'd be very worried about her," Aizawa scoffed. "Y/N seems more than capable to me."
"Still, he's worried. Normal human emotions!" Matsuda announced triumphantly, throwing his arms into the air.
The other three men collectively facepalmed.
Matsuda dropped his arms, puzzled. "Wha-?" Confusedly, he turned around- and was met with the startling sight of Ryuzaki's wide eyes staring right back at him.
"Agh!" Matsuda instantly whirled back around and squeezed his eyes shut in embarrassment as the other task force members glared at him, annoyed.
"Again- good grief, Matsuda," Soichiro snapped under his breath, and Matsuda dared to open his eyes a smidge to give the older man a sheepish smile.
"My bad, Chief..."
Luckily for the group, Ryuzaki didn't budge from his chair, instead having turned back around to fidget aimlessly with the mouse of his computer. Of course, the lack of reprimand for the group being off task was not lost on the men, who goggled in shock at Ryuzaki and then Matsuda, who seemed just as appalled as everyone else.
"Uh- why didn't he get mad again?" Aizawa asked, brow furrowed.
"Beats me..." Matsuda glanced one more time at Ryuzaki before turning to face the others with wide eyes. "Okay, he's totally freaking out about Y/N, right? He has to be."
"I guess that's the only conclusion," Light agreed, looking uncertain. "But if the guy running this whole operation is distracted, what are we supposed to do to help?"
"Ah, you're right- that may be a problem," Soichiro affirmed nervously. "But this is Ryuzaki- I'm really at a loss for what to do here."
The group stood in thoughtful silence for a couple of minutes, wondering how to fix this problem.
Matsuda suddenly snapped his head up. "Hey, let's cheer him up!" he suggested gleefully, making sure to keep his voice hushed this time.
The rest of the task force reacted accordingly to this idea.
"Huh?"
"What?"
"Huh?"
"Oh, come on- you heard me," Matsuda enthused, his expression brightening. "If we can make him feel better, he won't be distracted, and we can get things going again!"
"Sounds like a pipe dream," Aizawa jutted in scornfully.
"Not if we pull it off."
"And the chance of that is...?" Light prompted sarcastically before folding his arms across his chest and letting out an exasperated breath. "I really think we ought to just leave him be. Y/N will be back soon, more than likely, and he'll be just fine."
"Still," Matsuda insisted. "We're just being nice! And it's super weird seeing Ryuzaki like this, anyway... so why not?"
"And how would you suggest we go about that, Matsuda?" Soichiro queried, his tone skeptical as well.
Matsuda eyed both Yagamis curiously. "You've never cheered anybody up before when they're down? Just tell him that there's nothing to worry about- but in a lot more words than that."
"Okay, Matsuda, quick reminder that this is Ryuzaki." Aizawa arched a brow dubiously.
"Yeah, well, Ryuzaki or not, he's still a human being."
"But do we know that for sure?" Now both eyebrows were raised.
"Okay, okay." Light held up two hands, silencing the two men. "You know what, Matsuda? We'll try it, just to humor you. But if this doesn't go as planned..."
"Thanks, Light! Don't worry, it'll be fine- come on, guys!" Matsuda, apparently having no qualms at all, began strolling right towards Ryuzaki, leaving the other men no choice but to follow him.
"I hope he knows what he's doing," Soichiro murmured beneath his breath.
"With Matsuda? It's kind of a gamble," Light told his father as the group approached L, who turned around upon hearing the men behind him. Seeming a little caught off guard, L cocked his head at them, eyeing each in turn. "Is something the matter?"
Light, Soichiro, and Aizawa all awkwardly mumbled different things in unison, the general idea being that Matsuda was the one who forced them over here. Matsuda, however, paid no mind to the others and flashed a somewhat pitiful smile at L, who blinked in confusion.
"Actually- we were wondering-"
"You were wondering," Aizawa interjected sharply.
Matsuda huffed. "Okay, I was mostly wondering- but they were too- if you were doing okay?"
L continued to look confused. "Doing okay?"
"Like, uh, we were wondering if you were feeling alright. If something was wrong?" Matsuda sputtered, chuckling awkwardly after every few words, the task force behind him grimacing as L glanced towards them.
"I am alright. Thank you for asking. Now wh-"
"But are you really, though?" Matsuda cut him off abruptly, wringing his hands nervously. "I- what I mean is-"
Finally, Light, seeing that if they allowed Matsuda to go on he would say the wrong thing, interrupted Matsuda himself. "To be honest, we've noticed that your behavior has been a little out of the ordinary since Y/N left a while ago. To put it simply, we're curious as to if she is the reason for this."
Matsuda sent Light a grateful look as Light stepped back slightly with a wince. Meanwhile, L just watched the group, apparently waiting for the next person to talk.
"Of course, we don't mean to be invasive," Soichiro clarified, deciding to help the pair that had just spoken. "We'd just like to know if you need us to do anything." Aizawa, not knowing how to add on, just affirmed Soichiro's words with a firm nod.
L sighed, seeming exasperated, and the entire task force collectively cringed, hoping their words hadn't come off the wrong way.
"If you must know..." L finally spun around, his gaze not meeting anyone else's. "I am a bit concerned as to where Y/N may be right now. There's no need to walk on eggshells- you all are already aware that we have a bit of a relationship, so please, don't look so nervous."
Nobody relaxed.
"I appreciate your concern, but really, it's unnecessary," L insisted. "I'm just a little worried. Everything is fine."
"Can't be if we can tell something's wrong," Matsuda countered, and L's probing gaze instantly shot up to look at him. Matsuda faltered some before continuing on. "Well, I mean, you never show any emotions ever, so... I mean..."
L arched a brow, but his response wasn't what Matsuda expected. "Excellent deduction."
"Well, I'm sure she'll be back soon," Light chimed in, a little weirded out by the whole situation, but trying to be reassuring anyway. "Y/N certainly isn't helpless- I'm not suspecting any foul play, so I hope that's not what you're worried about."
The words sounded strange coming from Light's mouth- Ryuzaki, worried about someone? His thoughts on humanity as a whole were pretty straightforward: trust nobody, they're only "cunning monsters," so forth. But it seemed L didn't feel that way about everyone.
"I agree," Soichiro added, sounding tentative. "It's probably traffic or something similar that's keeping her. I'm sure there isn't any need to worry."
L didn't reply to either Yagami, only looking up at them with just a hint of uncertainty on his face. "Mm... do you think so?"
"To be honest, you never know with women." Aizawa shrugged flippantly, trying to lighten the mood some. "They say they'll be back in an hour and you don't see them for five, they say 'fine' when they actually want you dead, all of that. Y/N's probably still... what was she doing?... shopping or something. Wouldn't be surprised if she just wanted to 'look around' a little more- and apparently, that's not a slow process with them."
Now L actually looked lost. Meanwhile, the other task force members slowly lifted their gazes towards Aizawa, equally questioning expressions on their faces.
"Uh... thanks for the information... I guess?" Matsuda squinted at his coworker, bewildered.
Aizawa pursed his lips unapologetically. "I tried."
Matsuda blinked before turning back to L. "Okay- so why exactly are you so worried? What do you think might have happened?" He spun around to face Light. "Hey, Light, you have a girlfriend- what would you be worried about besides for foul play?"
Light's expression dulled at the mention of Misa Amane. "Can't say I'd be worried," he answered listlessly. "When she isn't with me and she's out in public, she has a couple of bodyguards with her a lot of the time."
Matsuda coughed awkwardly. "Uh, yeah, right. Uh- well, if you don't mind, Light, if Misa-Misa was my girlfriend, I'd be worried that she'd find somebody else to be with!" He laughed nervously, putting a hand behind his head. "I mean, it would just seem like she had a bunch of other, way better options for a boyfriend." He looked back down at Ryuzaki, who blinked up at Matsuda with an odd expression. "Maybe you're worried about something similar? That she ran off with a random guy or something?"
L was silent for a few seconds before responding. "...maybe. But if that were true, I'd be more worried about foul play than Y/N deciding to leave with no warning. That would be out of character."
"Huh- I guess you're right; that would be kinda weird." Matsuda stuck out his lower lip in thought.
Now Soichiro spoke up. "Forgive me if this is offensive, but... knowing you, I'd expect you had something like a tracking device on her- honesty, I'm a little bit surprised you don't."
"Yes, I know, and normally I would," L sighed. "However, I was specifically asked not to, so I refrained..."
"It's okay," Aizawa offered. "I mean, it's a lot better than you doing it anyway and her finding out later."
L nodded halfheartedly.
"If you're really concerned, Ryuzaki, you could let us go out and try to look for her," Matsuda suggested helpfully. "Especially since we're sort of way off task already..."
"A search? Now?" Light queried, eyeing Matsuda skeptically.
"Yeah? Why not? It's not like we'll be able to focus now, anyway." Matsuda shrugged casually.
"Now isn't the best time," Soichiro interjected, siding with his son as usual. "Of course, this is still the Kira investigation..."
"Actually, I'm with Matsuda on this one- for once," Aizawa cut in. "We won't be able to really do our best work if Y/N's on our minds. It'd be best if we just went out and got her already."
"Didn't we establish that Y/N is perfectly capable of handling herself?" Light countered. "She'll come back when she comes back. There's more important things at hand."
"My son is right," Soichiro affirmed. "Matsuda- please think twice before dragging us all somewhere next time..."
"But, chief- you guys agreed to help cheer up Ryuzaki so we could get back on task!" Matsuda protested. "Of course, sir, no disrespect."
"Cheer me up?" L glanced up at Matsuda questioningly.
"Yeah, this was a team decision," Aizawa challenged. "If we hadn't come over here, we would have just spent the whole time wondering about Ryuzaki."
"You could have just asked me-" L tried to cut in.
"Are my father and I the only ones capable of focusing on the task at hand?" Light demanded, his tone growing agitated and the atmosphere tense. "Why are we worrying about an issue that will just resolve itself?"
"What if- but what if it didn't?" Matsuda sputtered, a little caught off guard at the change in Light's normally cool demeanor. "There's always the risk that-"
"Again," Soichiro interrupted, his voice still calm, "Y/N can tend to herself. We've already eliminated the possibility of these 'risks.'"
The discussion quickly began to devolve into chaos, the task force members at odds and L unable to get in a single word.
"But there's still a chance-"
"Y/N can take care of herself!"
"There's nothing wrong with making sure."
"It isn't like we're gonna get anything done at this point!"
"You realize this isn't an everyday investigation, right?"
"Everyone, please-"
"You're doing nothing but drowning everybody out at this point!"
"I don't see why you're so against this idea!"
"I could say the same for you!"
"Please-"
"Hey."
Everyone stopped in their tracks, the room suddenly silent as your voice echoed through the room. Casually, you made your way towards the others, arms full of shopping bags and oblivious to the chaos that had just ceased.
"Hello, everyone- what did I miss?" You looked around the room, your eyes coming to a stop at the task force still in their arguing stances, your boyfriend shrouded by their silhouettes.
You arched a brow. "Okay, why is everyone looking at me like that?'

What they love about you (part 1) [Genshin Impact]
Synopsis: It was as if the universe had changed when they saw you.
Characters: Diluc, Kaeya, Xiao, Venti x female reader
Part 2 here
(A/n): Okay okay I know I have some requests yet I decided to write something super indulgent. I'M SORRY! This past week I've just been writing so much angst *looks at inbox* AND MORE ANGST TO COME I really need that dose of Vitamin F(luff) 😭
===========================
Noctua's Heartbeat (Diluc)
For a man who had the whole world in the palm of his hand
With looks, fame and all the wealth he could demand
But what stole away his breath was something not to be bought
For it was merely the calming presence of your living and beating heart.
Your heart was a dignity born for empathy, so beautiful and magnificent with the kind of charm similar to white Cecilias blooming across Mondstadt's fields. Diluc would watch from afar, admiring their glow. It shines without reservation, blissfully unaware to a fault that he couldn't help but feel afraid knowing how the real world would simply pluck you from your roots and shape you in the way they wanted to. People who were tainted souls with tainted soles roaming from the shadows, constantly trampling on other's beliefs before leaving them to rot.
Ah but of course, Cecilias are wildflowers. No matter how many times they were stepped on, they could still withsand any force nature throws at them. Whether it'd be raging storms or scorching heat from the summer sky, you were the same through it all. Love. You were in love. You were in love with the wind, you were in love with people, you were in love with the world and everything that lives in it.
And so, Diluc wonders if that was the reason why everything suddenly began to shimmer.
He treaded on a path fated for loneliness while longing for the dawn to appear out of the night horizon-- where emotions once frozen until you came in to melt the ice. He blocked his heart but you tore down those walls. Diluc swore to never feel if it meant protecting himself and yet you held onto his shattered pieces tenderly, dearly, blowing the love of life and teaching it how to beat again.
Your heart was like a fountain of all the hopes he abandoned years ago and the dreams that no one had the courage to envision, cleansing everything within it's reach and freshening them anew. You were a being so in tune with your emotions that it sang through all that you did, laughing despite your obstacles and shedding tears when overjoyed, a single drop it was but still held the depth of the entire ocean. Diluc vows to protect you for your heartbeat was also his own. He'll gladly lay down his life because losing you deemed far worse than any death he could imagine.

The other eye of Pavo Ocellus (Kaeya)
The knight's shining armour serves only as a disguise
When beauty from the surface is one's own demise
He used it to protect himself, decorating his words with pretty lies
But unmatched when facing against your truthful eyes.
They say the eye was an open window to a person's true colours. If that were the case then the painting inside him must have been an unsightly one.
Every once in a while the people of Mondstadt would speak about their Cavalry Captain's eyepatch, whether he was injured after being sent out on a mission or if he wears it for the sake of image. No one knows, it was rather unsettling, why someone would cover their eye despite not being injured. Secrets? Perhaps. Kaeya was known to be a man shrouded in mystery after all.
Your gaze was his Death After Noon. Sparkling upon the surface yet with the tasteful allure so captivating that it was almost dangerous. Just one glance and he was intoxicated, eventually leading to a slip of the tongue, revealing what was buried deep within his contaminated essence. Kaeya hated that you had the uncanny ability to see through his mask. Your innocence so contrasting, he felt like looking into a mirror, reminding just how much of an ugly person he truly was in comparison.
But mirrors are easy to break, no?
The thought delivers a sinister smile on his face. Pitiful-- is the state where you were. Pitiful-- it's what he is. How could he think of such things when all you offered was kindness? Unlike Kaeya, you were an honest person, always wearing your emotions on your sleeve and unaware of the devil's vicinity. He was tempted by the invite to crush you and run away like the coward he was meant to be. However as he stares deeply into your eyes he realized they weren't made of glass. They were gems. The most precious gems hardened by the pressures of experience.
In the shine of thine eyes resides the stars and the moon as if stolen from the Abyss, leading to the edges of the universe that was blessed within your mind. The look of curiosity filled with rich hues all held by a soulful stare while they pierced through the armour shaped around his heart. It was your ability to recognize beauty amongst the most wretched of things that he fell so hopelessly in love with you because for the first time someone had seen him-- his flaws and his faults, his abyss painted darker than black but loved him despite it all. As he drowns himself in the world of your gaze, Kaeya prays to never be the one who will steal away those stars or moon because they looked the most beautiful on you.

The Winged Nemesis who flew towards the Sun (Xiao)
He looks at your face as if he saw spring for the first time
An unsual encounter, wondering how could something be so sublime
The yaksha stands upon the corpses while reaching for the sky
Seeing the sun in your smile that he wishes to fly
Xiao has dealt with the cards of death and won through many of it's games. But his life was a gamble as the karmic binds may one day bring the same fate that was done upon his comrades-- insanity, murder and corruption. So he swears an oath to his god and himself, ensuring the darkness only he could bear does not seep into the light.
A gust of wind sways in when you pass by, he was struck by pensive bewilderment because happiness was a feeling unknown to him. It was the expression you made whenever you greeted him good morning. The complexion you had while charging through life's challenges. And the face you wore even during the times where there was no reason to smile. Xiao has felt the might of the sun for her light will never be exstinguished by his darkness, he could only succumb to it.
But you were not just the sun, you were the flowers that bloomed beneath her heavenly sky and the birds that chirped upon those earth-like trees. You were a whole new world he didn't dare to touch because dreams were delicate and his cursed self would only devour them until nothing was left. Still, the mighty sun shines through it all, stretching out her rays like a welcoming embrace until the universe had been revitalized, giving birth to new life after winter's storm.
If pictures told a thousand words then he had a thousand reasons and more to love you. Xiao witnessed the sweetest joy decorated by pink petal blossoms dancing around him, the one who pulled him out of his spiraling trance of darkness. The breath he takes no longer felt suffocating and instead was replaced by the smell of nature's greatest gifts: you. Stay away, he says, because there were times where you shone so brightly that he had to look elsewhere. Your rays burned him and he thinks it might drill holes into his wings. Painful it may be but if the splendor of spring could only be admired after the harsh cold snow, then maybe pain and love were only two sides of the same coin.
A world without the sun--such unfathomable thoughts--is a death he does not wish to deal with.

A song she sings for the God of Wind (Venti)
Man lives by the power of the tongue,
Whatever Man speaks is aligned with Man's choice.
Hearken when she talks for her words are to be sung,
Because not only was she lovely but so was her voice.
-Venti
There were many reasons why Venti loved music. The freedom to express oneself when words weren't enough, allowing one's spirit to flow out of their mouth and be with the wind. It was the feeling he had when he listened to you because your voice was sweeter than any song he sang or played.
When you speak it was as if the world around you danced, bringing them to the mercy of your stage. Like standing upon the soft grass while letting the sparks of dandelions dust against his own skin, Venti would close his eyes as he hears you speak-- it was you, just you and that was all he needed. He swears that no one in the world could sound as living as you did because it was the words you say that stole his heart away.
The vibration in your tone was fleshed with kindness yet so sure and firm to the point it could even bring a god to his knees. If he were a sailor then you were the siren, enchanting him with your bell-like voice and bringing him to a territory where he can never escape from. It was the spell of your divine song, his Carmen Dei, that tricked the trickster. Venti did not mind as long as he was able to feel the blessing amongst his ears.

oh no there is only one bed!! or you and childe have to share a bed part 3!! (and a lot of things happen in between)
note: under the cut. some physical violence but not too graphic. reader talks a lot about murder here. if you're a childe stan i don't think it should bother you much but i'm still advising caution if you're sensitive abt that. feel free not to read, pls take care of yourself 😊😊 strong language too, and a lot of angst and some comfort dw
part 1 - part 2
dunyu ruins
the harbinger's hydro vision glowed menacingly in the dark. you would have found it enthralling if it did not come from this man. most hydro users you knew used their visions to either heal, soothe, or, perhaps, learn the vastness of the universe. but what happens when the gods bless someone who craves for violence?
"both of you really did a good job tricking me. i'm impressed," said childe, a sour smile om his face. "who knew that a simple debt collection could lead into something as complex as this. and i thought my job won't take all night, ha." he pulled a bow from his back and prepared to shoot, hydro arrows glistening in the dark. your friend shuddered next to you, eyeing the weapon.
"y/n, that's your name isn't it? you know," he continued, his eyes piercing you with his gaze, "this wouldn't all have to happen if you didn't put your nose into our business. "
jia held your hand urgently. he was pulling you near to him. was he planning something? you wondered, not letting your gaze leave childe's eyes.
"you were going to kill him," you said.
he sighed. "the thing is, i never intended to harm him. he owed us mora, not his life," he said. "did you ever wonder what he had spent all that money for, y/n? have you considered asking that?"
you thought about that, of course. who did this man think you were, a complete fool? what was it so important that jia had to break a contract in liyue and spend the rest of his life in hiding? you carried these worries in your heart but you trusted your friend to tell you at the right time.
"what were in those packages he received that made it so worth it to put himself at extra risk?" said childe, glancing at your friend.
jia did not answer.
childe continued, "i was merely going to talk to him. if he fought, then i'll give him a fight. if he chose diplomacy, then i must so as well, even it's a pain the ass, i admit.
"if he runs, i must oblige to chase after him, of course," said the harbinger. the arrow pointed towards you, not jia, and you could feel his anger behind it. it made you catch your breath, terrified by the harbinger's intense gaze. but jia's firm hold of your hand kept you steady. you gripped his hand back, strengthening your resolve. you weren't going to wither under this pretty boy's threats.
"and you think i trust you to keep him safe, fatui?" you replied, as jia took another step back.
"y/n," he said, reckoning he liked the sound of your name in his lips. "i may have done dirty work, but your friend isn't big of a deal enough to be killed. the fatui has other ways to extract his debts from him. it's never my style to hurt the weak."
tartaglia was startled at the look you gave him. it was strange, as if you actually believed him. it was true, he never did liked hurting anybody who couldn't fight back, yet, if the tsarita desired it, then he was left with no choice but to comply.
"childe," you said and the way you called his name, fake as it is, still sent flutters in his chest, "if i tried to kill you, will you do the same?"
"to be honest," he said, almost whispering, "i'm slowly realizing that it isn't for him i came all this way for."
"y/n," said jia, pulling you backwards. you gasped in surprise as the two of you disappeared into the shadows. the last thing you saw was the harbinger calling out for your name.
---
"y/n!" shouted tartaglia, rushing forward. he stopped on his heels when he saw the hole on the floor, darkness looming inside of it. he dropped to his knee and picked up a small stone, tossing it to the hole. it was silent.
he didn't expect you to shout anything from the darkness, but he waited, hoping to hear your voice again. he pressed a hand on his forehead, groaning.
gods, he badly wanted to fight you now. he wanted to see the real you in a duel, not this hide and seek game you continued to play, this trickery you kept on doing. it rather pissed him off and if only you knew how angry he was when he learned it was you who had been deceiving him all along, right from the very beginning..
he could sense that you were skilled in battle, knew how strong you were, but why do you keep on running away?
and yet..
"i want to see you again," he whispered. the next thing he did was jump into the hole, yearning to meet you again.
---
you hugged jia tight as the two of you descended downwards. it was a huge drop and still it seemed like the you were floating. he wasn't wearing a wind glider nor did he had any tools left with him when you found him. instead, a luminous green seeped through his shirt, the glow similar to childe's vision when he pulled his bow earlier.
you looked at it curiously. then, you felt the ground beneath your feet. the two of you had dropped safely.
but there was no time to catch your breath. the harbinger must be on his way towards you right now, you thought. you certainly didn't want to meet him again. somehow, you got the sense that he wasn't lying about everything he had said earlier but you wouldn't take the chance to begin converse with him.
you did not want to admit it but your gut told you that he was an honest man, which was impossible considering he was a member of the fatui and a member of its higher ranks.
you shook the thought away. you turned to jia, checking if he was alright.
"what happened to you? did you get hurt during the fall?" you ask, startled by the look on his face. he was white as the moon and his skin was covered in cold sweat. he looked ten times worse than before and it baffled you how much he could have deteriorate so fast in just a span of minutes.
"i'm ok," he said, gritting his teeth. "i'm just tired."
"could it be your leg? is it hurting right now?" you asked, steadying him with your arms. he was just one blow away from collapsing.
"no, it isn't that," he said under his breath. you see his hand clutch his chest, grabbing the item that glowed underneath his shirt. "let's just get out of here. i don't feel too good about this place." jia placed an arm around your shoulder and you held onto his waist. he leaped forward, holding you tightly.
you both started running, and the ground rushed under you. it felt as if you were gliding on foot, the experience not unlike the slow descent that you did a while ago. you held your lamp up, lighting your path, and yet everything was a blur as you skipped forward with the speed of a barrel rolling doen a hill. it made you slightly sick.
after a few minutes of running and navigating the ruin's maze-like halls, you could finally see moonlight seeping through an exit a few meters away.
it was when jia tripped, and both of you rolled on the ground.
"ah!" you cried as pain laced through your shoulder when you hit against something hard and metallic. your bottled lamp crashed somewhere, breaking into pieces, and the two of you were suddenly surrounded with darkness.
you could hear jia moaning when you crawled towards him. from the small light from his chest, you could see him sicker now, his face even more ghastly in the shadows.
you touched his forehead, trying to see if he was catching a fever. you yelped in surprise when the skin beneath your hand felt so cold.
"i don't think your leg was infected," you murmurred, looking closely at his injured leg. you shifted your attention to the suspicious item that he'd been feverishly gripping. you gently pried his fist to open, suspicious of it.
when you touched the item, you felt a shiver run through your spine. he tried pulling away but you were stronger than him, more so now, and you briskly grabbed the item underneath his shirt.
the thing glowed dangerously inside your palm and a surge of power flowed inside you like a strong gust of wind. you dropped it immediately, afraid of what it could do.
childe's words earlier crossed your mind and you looked at your friend, surprise and disbelief crossing your face. "you bought a delusion?!"
when jia remained silent, you continued talking."all this? for a delusion that's going to kill you?" you cried. you wanted to fill his silence. your thoughts brimmed with the secrets he'd been piling up, all of them running into you like a knife piercing your heart.
you gathered his shirt into your fists, shaking his limp body. "are you fucking insane? how could you do this?"
the expression he wore was sad. "i've always wanted a vision, dreamt of it. i wanted the heavens to bless me, and then, perhaps, i could live without fearing anything, you know?
"i've always been a coward, y/n. if given the choice, i will choose the easier option. when my grandfather told me to learn martial arts, despite hating it, i followed, because i was afraid to disappoint him. when the family wanted me to account their earnings, i did, even though i wanted to travel, be an adventurer like you.
"i thought, there was no way the gods would give me a vision, seeing how much of a coward i am. i simply do not have the resolve to be recognized.
"so, i went to the fatui instead. but the cost for a vision was too high, and i absolutely had nothing to give," he said, looking at you in the eye. he had grabbed his delusion back, its threatening glow now hidden in his fist.
"i asked them for money," he continued, "enough to start a business. i pooled everything i earned from it just to buy myself a delusion. and, perhaps the gods did not approve of my actions, because the first delusion i receieved didn't work. i wasn't compatible with it. thus, began my search for a delusion that willl perfectly fit me.
"once in every three months, i received a delusion. they came from different places and countries. you delivered a few, you know."
you winced in pain. once in a while, you delivered him a package at liyue harbor, not knowing what was inside.
"so i seeked, always on the lookout for a delusion that will choose me. the search made me feel alive and it was as if i was granted a vision then; it gave me the will to reach a dream with my own hands, choose the difficult option. for once in my life, it felt like i was not running away.
"when i met you today, holding the package, i could feel that it was the one," said jia, pressing the delusion on his chest. "i could feel it call to me. and i wondered if this was what vision-wielders felt everytime they use their elements, this sensation of completeness and the power to do anything. when that damned harbinger was at me, this delusion called out to me and i was faster, lighter, much more wuicker than him. i could even fly if i tried hard enough," he said, laughing.
"this thing saved me, y/n."
you shooked your head. it hurt you to see him risk his life to a nightmare. "that thing destroyed your life, jia," you said. "it cannot be worth it."
his gaze turned cold. "don't tell me what's worth my life, adventurer," he spat. "you wouldn't understand, you never wanted a vision. never had the strong desire to do something in your life besides get by."
he scowled at you, fury growing inside him. "you never had the resolve to change, y/n. you're exactly like me, always running away but i chose to do something about it."
you lunged at him, taking him by surprise. he accidentally dropped his delusion and you quickly grabbed it. the thing hummed in your hands, dangerous power gripping your every being. it took you all your willpower to ignore its call. jia tried to snatch it up but you swiftly drew youself up, backing away from him.
a hand caught your ankle and you fell on your face. you yelled in pain as your friend pushed you to the ground with his knee, his arm reaching for your wrist. you rolled over and he tumbled to the ground, falling on his wounded leg. he screamed in agony as pain hitched up on his right leg.
"y/n!" he cried as he scrambled towards you. you were already limping away as fast you could, the delusion wrapped tightly around your hand.
"i'm so sorry, jia," you said, rushing towards the exit. you hoped you could keep the delusion away from him. it doesn't deserve him, you thought.
suddenly, you felt a burst of wind brush your hair, and before you knew it, jia was already next to you, his expression furious.
the next second, his fist connected to your gut and you lost your breath from the shock and pain. you fell hard on your knees, the delusion dropping to the ground. he hurried towards it, picking it off from the dirt.
"it still works even if i'm not holding it" said jia, surprised himself. he pocketed the delusion and looked down at you. "i really didn't want it to end this way."
you laid on the ground, clutching your stomach as the world spun around you. you were hurt but you could also feel anger bubbling inside you. here you were getting beat up by your friend as a harbinger was on your heels out for blood. you were tired and hungry and feeling very much betrayed. the pain all over your body only made your anger more acute, and you directed its intensity to keeping very, very still.
may every archon grant you the strength to strike these men down, you prayed.
jia jolted when you screamed. you finally exploded.
"you're an idiot," you howled. "you put yourself into debt buying a fucking delusion from the fatui using their fucking money. not only that, they have tricked you over and over again." you clawed your hand on the ground, giving him murderous look.
you pushed yourself up and he stared at you as if you were a rabid animal. you pounced at him. jia avoided you easily, his fist rising to jab your shoulder. no, he won't get you this time.
you were one step ahead. you threw dirt on his eyes and he slid back, yelling as he tried to wipe the it off. him blinded, you punched him hard on the cheek.
you caught his shirt before he could collapse and pulled him close to you, glaring at his red and muddy face.
"you're not a coward or a weakling. don't you dare say that about yourself. you deserve much better than this." jia was shocked to realize that you were crying.
you freed his shirt and tightly wrapped your arms around him. "you're no coward, you're just a big fool and my dearest, dearest friend," you sobbed.
"y/n.." he said weakly. he awkwardly wrapped an arm around you.
"i may not desire a vision, jia, but right now i want to save you so badly."
the way you gambled your life for him was no different from him risking everything to gain a delusion and he didn't realized how hurtful his words were when he told you that you didn't have the resolve to change. he patted your head, tears on his face. "you're much of a fool as i am, you know.
"i'm so sorry i hit you," he said.
"it's ok," you replied. "i got you back."
the two of you stayed still for a moment, trying to catch your breaths. it was then you began to notice that the ground was shaking. on the ground, small rocks bounced like drops of rain on a puddle. light flashed from behind you, filling the ruins with harsh brightness.
"y/n," said jia, his voice trembling. you left his arms and turned around.
above you, a ruin grader began to wake up from its slumber, its mechanical whirrs making the fragile walls crack and shake. the noises earlier must have activated it, to your growing despair.
"is that.. a ruin guard?" asked jia.
"no," you replied. "that's a ruin grader, you idiot." you couldn't help yourself, everything's gone up to hell and you wouldn't take common misconceptions about automatons right now. even so, a ruin grader was particularly rare around liyue, so it was just your luck that it had to cross your path at this very moment.
it slowly stood on its height, its joint cracking from long misuse. dirt and moss covered its body, and it looked like an entirely different beast of its own. its eye whirred towards the two of you and it seemed almost like it was thinking.
"run," you whispered.
---
mondstadt
childe easily flipped you onto your stomach, his hand roughly pushing your head to the pillow, the other pressing your wrists behind your back. the dagger clattered on the wooden floor of the inn, the sound drowned by the wind.
"i never did admire your underhanded tactics, adventurer," said childe, pressing you firmly to the bed. "i've challenged you to a duel so many times and you always refused. you had so many times to do this.
"if you want to kill me, i'd rather you do it in front of me."
you jeered, "you don't get to choose how you die, childe. and you think i have a chance against a harbinger? this is the only way i can slice that neck of yours open."
"by sleeping with me?" he said, doubtful. he leaned next to your face, whispering to your ear. his hold on you tightened and you struggled hopelessly against him. "stop lying to me. i know you can fight. i've seen you in battle before. you were amazing."
you shivered as you felt his warm breath against your ear. "this is easier," you said as if you weren't struggling under him right now.
his lips were a few inches from your neck and you got the strangest sense that he wanted to touch you there, but he wouldn't. "did you know i was going to be here? " he asked.
you kept quiet. you were so angry at him but most especially, with yourself. you could feel your fever going up and your strength faltered under him, much to your frustration.
unable to stop yourself, you began to cry silently.
you feel his grip loosen a bit. "tell me," he said, brushing a thumb on your wrist. he hated seeing you cry.
"an informant from the city," you began, trying to shake off his gentle, consoling touches from your mind. "he told me about you, how you were planning to visit the country.
"i wasn't suppose to meet you, childe, but i did. i was heading off to liyue because i wanted to avoid you. but still, this happened. i tried to get away from you, you know, when we met at this inn, but you're stubborn as fuck and i.." you trailed off.
childe watched you quietly, waiting for you to continue. "you remember the last time we met? at the bridge leaving the harbor?" you asked.
"of course. i challenged you to a duel. i even gave you that dagger you just tried to stab me with," he said fondly. you could almost see him smiling from behind you.
“you left without saying goodbye, " he chuckled sadly.
"i wanted to stab you then right there, offer you as sacrifice to that damn country," you said, breathing hard.
"when i picked up your gift, i knew you were challenging me to kill you then. it was written all over that stupid face of yours." you laughed, feeling your mind slipping as your confessions poured from your mouth. "and i almost did it."
"but i got scared. i knew i could do it. i could kill you in one swipe and it would all be over. i would have accomplished my goal. "
you voice began to shake. "no, i wasn't terrified of you, i was terrified that i could actually do it. i had plenty of opportunities to change and i choose to run away.
"jia was right. perhaps, i am a coward." more tears poured out of your face.
"no, you're not," he said. he could feel your hurt. it was a peculiar reaction, to desire to comfort you even though you have repeatedly deceived him already. it took all his strength to keep himself from nuzzling into your hair and embrace you.
instead, he pressed his forehead at the back of your head. "y/n," he said, his voice soft. "you're one of the bravest persons i've ever met."
you stilled, listening to his breathing. sensing the fight in you dissipitate, he lets you go.
tartaglia carefully turned you over. your eyes were half-closed, tired and sleepy. he pressed the back of his hand on your neck to check your temperature. you were so hot now, tired and feverish from exerting yourself too hard.
tears still stained your cheek and he wiped it away with his thumb. he sat right next you and reached for your forehead, massaging it. he usually did this for his father who always had pains everywhere in his body and constantly requested massages from his children.
he felt your tension loosen. you were calm now and your mind began to unfog from emotion. the way his fingers applied pressure there was gentle, skilled.
"how does one live when you're consumed of desire to kill someone?" you asked, watching his face as you feel ice form from your fingers. "how could the gods recognize me at my lowest point?"
the nicer he was to you, the colder you felt inside. the things he did for you made utterly no sense, though in retrospect, childe was beyond normal human comprehension. it was normal to lean to his kindness, but to trust it? you couldn't let that happen.
tartaglia glanced at your hand, seeing the frost forming on it. "the gods recognize strength, not weakness."
"when i received my vision, it was you who was in my mind," you said quietly.
"what an honor," he said, watching your lips. he leaned towards your face. he adored listening to your voice, likes how calm it can be, likes how rough it would sound when you were angry, liked how it harmonizes well with the constant noise in his mind.
you pointed the blade on front of his face, staring at his eyes. your eyes were tired but it never lacked of determination. tartaglia liked that too.
he gingerly wrapped his fingers around the blade, pulling it close to his neck. its tip was cold, sharp, and it bit through his hand but he was no stranger to the cold. the winters in his hometown were harsher. it made him even more alert, severrly aware that if he just leaned down a bit, he could kiss you.
"try," he said. "will you hurt me, y/n?"
your hands shook but his firm grip on it kept you from pulling away. "i don't understand you," you said.
"i know there's no way of comforting you with kindness, young adventurer. it only hurts you, but maybe, this would make you feel kinda better," the look he gave you was decisive, his face so honest and serious. and in his eyes, a hint of a challenge, as if he was testing you.
he pulled the blade closer to his neck, the cold tip touching his skin. the violence in this was strange, because all thoughout, his other hand was making small, easing circles on your arm and it bothered you more than the fact childe was offering himself up to you.
"childe," you whispered. he seemed only to draw himself closer to you. unknown to you, he yearned to hear your voice.
the blade was close enough to draw a bit of blood from his skin and you stared at it in awe.
his face was now near yours and you could feel his breath hovering over your lips. you were so exhausted, perhaps, because you were beginning to think about kissing it.
"y/n," he whispered back. "i.."
his next words were lost, now, as you closed your eyes, pushing the blade closer to his neck.
then, there was darkness.
i will proofread this later after work. but there will be a part 4!! just that, my sched is packed rn so it'll take a while to finish, sorry. wishing you all a good health ✨✨
part 4!!

Is it ok if I request a fic of Teruya x Ultimate writer S/O? (Btw ur skills on drawing and writing are amazing)
C-Compliments... My weakness, I am dying inside. I am dead, no thoughts, no brain, just happiness.
It is more than okay for you to request. I am more than glad to provide Teruya Content!
Teruya Otori x Ultimate Writer!Reader
aka: Reader being a fucking disaster for almost 1200 words. Ultimate Writer? More like Ultimate Idiot.
DRA Setting.
Warning: Some self-deprecation.
Word Count: +1400
Reader has no pronouns defined.
Writing came naturally to you.
You weren't a Prodigy like Toko Fukawa, whose novels charmed all the people in general, but you were not a Hifumi Yamada either. You... You were just you. Just a student who wrote about everything and nothing at the same time. Poems, songs, fables, fairytales, even reports, all of them were just stuff that you loved to do. Your mind was a beautiful chest full of ideas and thoughts and putting it all in paper was a way to not let none of them be left behind.
To think that had earned you a place in Hope's Peak Academy had been a blessing, and then a curse.
Of course you couldn't be the only Ultimate with a talent tied with writting, of fucking course you weren't special in anyway. At least that's what the worst part of you said, the one who only resided in the negative part of your brain.
You held the pencil tightly, the words stuck between your fingers, unable to write.
What kind of Ultimate Writer were you, having a mental block? You groaned, head going straight to the desk. You felt your forehead made contact with the paper in wich you had been trying uselessly to write, and you couldn't help but feel pathetic the moment you remembered that there was absolutely nothing in there.
Nothing. Empty.
God, it was just a love letter! How hard could it be? You had won so many prices with your reports about love and the cause of those feelings. Yes, maybe they were not Fukawa's romance novels, but they helped you so many times in how to recognize crushes and fucking act on them.
Did they matter at the end of the day? There you were, being a pathetic chicken that couldn't even escape a simple writter's block.
Well, maybe you had been rejected too many times to be finally scared to act. The excuse came to your mind, instantly remembering how in every attempt something always went wrong, how in all the times you tried your best to charm your way into your crush's heart with pretty words you had always ended in a failure, your desired person denying you with either a uncomfortable expression or a smile full of pity.
You hated it, you hated it so much and you would hate it more if Teruya ever looked at you that way.
"For the sweet love of jesus, just fucking kill me already..." You mumbled, head still buried in the piece of paper. If Kinji had heard that you would had been subjeted to a harsh lecture about never saying the Lord's name in vain, but god, you were too tired to care.
Maybe... Maybe you could just simply be blunt. Maybe this time you could leave the pretty words behind, and just use what it needed to be done. An average confession-
No. Just no.
Teruya deserved the best! Being average with a confession would just be just stupid! No, no. The Ultimate Merchant deserved to be praised, he needed to know that his green eyes were the reason you got up everyday even though you hated Hope's Peak with all of your entire being, he needed to know that you loved how soft his hair was when your fingers managed to brush againt it, and that you would literally kill to be able to play with it all the time.
-Tsuguri had heard that from your mouth once, when you thought you were alone, trying your best to gain courage to confess and he walked into your open room because he needed help with homework. You spent the rest of the evening trying to convince him that you wouldn't murder anyone, it was just an exageration, and to please put the handcuffs away jesus christ.-
With newfound confidence you raised your head, snorting when the white paper stayed glued to one of your cheeks. You used your dominant hand to put it again on the desk, finally ready to spill out your most honest feelings.
"My dearest Teruya." You said loudly as you wrote. Then paused. "Sounds too... ugh." A frown, then a pensive expresion.
You used to do that a lot when you wrote. Your mouth would open up, and everything that you put in paper would be criticized and said out loud, like you were testing if it sounded right, if it was something that could belong in a convertation.
"It sounds cheesy... but I would said that. My dearest Teruya..." You tested the words, tasting the sugar and the love in every single one, and you swore the moment you felt your face burn. Yeah, those three words would stay. You continued writting, trying to get your feelings expresed. "I am writting this because I like you. No, no. That sounds too simple, it wouldn't work."
You erased those faulty words.
"I want to tell you that I have a crush on you." Your voice was gaining confidence as you wrote, becoming louder and more assured. It was as if you were slowly becoming a different person, your eyes gaining a glow that almost made them look of a different color.
"I have been spending months trying to gain the courage to confess what I feel to you. I've been trying to get you to understand that I absolutely adore everything that makes you.. well, you. I like you a lot, Teruya. I like how bubbly and kind, and how gentle you have been with me since we met. I find you undeniable handsome, and I... want you to know that you would make me the most lucky Ultimate if you liked me back and accepted a date with me! Any place would be fine, please just date me!"
You finished writting, your dominant hand slapping the piece of paper while you stood up in your seat. A proud smile was on your lips. The last part sounded a little bit too desesperate for your taste, but it was decent enough for you.
"... Would it be fine if I picked you up next Sunday then?"
What the fuck.
You screamed, jumping in place so high you would make the even the Ultimate Jumper jealous. Was there an Ultimate Jumper, though? You didn't think so, but who cared about that! Your brain just stopped working the moment your head turned right, and your eyes saw Teruya Otori on the door, the short man red in the face.
Of fucking course. Of course he would come to the Library even thought he usually did not come by his own.
His green eyes were watching you intensely, and if you had bothered to notice, you would have seen his hands shaking.
"Teruya! What? How-... When? Holy fucking god don't do this to my poor heart! Why the heck are you in the Library?"
The green haired boy shrugged, still blushing furiously. God, he was so cute, the tips of his ear were red too! He never broke eye contact with you though, and your nerves were rising.
Up, up, up.
"Haruhiko asked me to go grab a notebook he left in a hurry."
You instantly scowled. "That fucking dumbass couldn't go for it himself...? I'm gonna murder that-"
Teruya instantly cut you off saying your name. "He's with Satsuki." Oh. That inmediately made your angry expression melt. You knew the Pilot, and how he had been struggling with his feelings for the clown girl. You even had confided on him with your own problem, and gave him advice.
You sighed tiredly. You were still red, a hand going to your head, your fingers playing with your hair. It was a quirk of yours, something that usually told that you were feeling shy at the moment. Lord knows how many times Mitch had teased you for that.
"Well... I... suppose you have questions."
Seconds passed. Then, the boy grinned, hands going to the back of his head. Much to your confusion, the boy shook his head, still having that beautiful smile that always your heart sing. "I have, but I could ask them in the date."
What. What the fuck.
You felt your head combust into flames, your mouth opening to let out the most pitiful squeak that you ever did in your liife. Holy moly, that was too smooth to have been uttered by the short guy, and the effect was mind shattering.
"Sunday sounds good?" He asked, and if you hadn't been busy wishing to dig a hole be buried under it, you would had seen that Otori was nervous too.
It took you almost half a minute to answer, and by that time The Ultimate Merchant had already went to collect Haruhiko's notebook, and it was now secure under the young boy's hands.
"S-Sunday sounds perfect."
"Alright. See ya then!"
The boy left, his steps quick, and you groaned all the profanities on all of the languajes you knew, feeling disconected from what just happened. You just had secured a date with the boy you liked.
On the other side, Teruya was going back to his friends muttering to himself, repeating what just happened in his mind with a face so red it would make a tomato jealous.
He just had secured a date with the person he liked.

DustFresh Headcanons
When the other is at work
Fresh
Well-
Fresh technically does live with the Bad Sanses while Ink repairs Nox's AU. Fresh loves to snuggle up in Dust's bed while he's on a mission. It's super comfy and soft.
"..Fresh..?"
"I'm sorry-"
When the other is at work
Dust
Fresh is jobless. (God bless my baby.) But he does go help Lust design his new clothing brand. And he wants to be a tattoo artist! So when he's out, he usually steals some of Fresh's clothes, (Damn stalker-) and sleeps in them or just keeps them just to cherish them.
"Oh! You found my jacket!"
"...Yes."
"If- If you wanted to wear it you could've just asked-"
Comfort during or after nightmares
Fresh
Fresh gets terribly nervous so he's unable to sleep. So he usually snuggles up with Dust when he's having a nightmare. Or after he'll go bake something for Dust and leave leftovers for everyone else the next morning. Most times its cuddles, comfort words, hugs, or small kisses. (Fresh kisses all his friends ^^)
"...Fresh I'm not hungry."
"But Red said you get munchies-"
"...I'll take one."
Dust
He's awkward as hell when it comes down to comforting someone. But he just does his best. ...Until he goes to call Nightmare for help. But no worries! He always makes sure to make it up to Fresh the next morning. When Fresh does sleep that is.
"....I'm sorry-"
"..Why are you apologizing?"
"...I hugged you while you were sleeping-"
"DUST WHAT THE FUCK-"
"It's okay-"
"IT'S REALLY NOT!"
"...I'm sorry."
When the other is upset
Fresh
I would say it's not hard to upset the teen if he wasn't a very sensitive baby. When he is upset he asks for cuddles or bakes for no reason until he's no longer upset.
"...Why are you handing me so many cookies?"
"Please just take them-"
"..Okay."
Dust
Not gonna lie, bro just stays in his room and isolates himself until he deems himself safe enough to be around. Or he asks for hugs from Fresh. Or steals his clothes
"Dust why are you in my room-"
"...It's hot in my room."
"It's literally forty degrees in here-"
"...Hug me-"
"What-"
Pranks
Fresh
Fresh no longer does pranks because one, he's trying to be nice, and two, he lost his pranking gear when Nox's AU was destroyed.
"...It's April Fools."
"Okay."
"...Why aren't you pranking anyone?"
"I lost my stuff when Nox's AU was destroyed-"
"..Oh. Sorry."
"Honey you did nothing wrong-"
Dust
He doesn't do pranks. Unless they're life-threatening.
"...Fresh are you okay?"
"..Why the fuck is there a bloody bag of flesh in the middle of my floor?"
"....That was Axe's-"
Laundry
Fresh
He loves to do laundry! Anything involving housework! He's a housewife at heart leave him be.
"...I can wash my own clothes."
"It's my week to laundry though. And I thought you weren't allowed to touch the washer anymore-"
"..I can wash my own things-"
Dust
He broke the washer because he didn't know how to turn it on.
"Sweetie, I-"
"...I'm sorry."
Do opposites attract?
Fresh
Oh absolutely. Fresh has yet to realize his feelings for Dust! He just thinks he's a bit fond of Dust because of how close they are.
"...Fresh can you let go of me now?"
"You were gonna leave me."
"...I have to go on a mission."
Dust
He has a huge crush on Fresh. He's had one on Fresh since before he'd gained emotions. He loves everything about him! (Stalker and yandere motherfu-)
"Dust, honey can I please have my jacket back I'm cold-"
"...You can wear my jacket."
"But it's covered in monster dust-"
"...This is mine now."
"What-"
How often do they sing?
Fresh
Fresh is very shy about singing. He hums to himself sometimes when he's not around anyone. (Or he thinks)
"...Your voice very pretty."
"I'm sorry!"
Dust
He doesn't sing but he hums. He doesn't care if anyone hears. His voice is very nice though ^^
"You're very good!"
"...Oh. Thank you."
When they want something
Fresh
Fresh likes to get Dust things just because he likes him. (But he doesn't know that.)
"..Fresh I don't need any of this- ...Bring it back-"
"It's all for you! Take it!"
Dust
For a murderer bro got money. He loves to spoil the hell out of Fresh.
"Dust please take this back I- I don't need it-"
"...You don't want it..?"
"What? No! No, no no no no no no!"
"..I'll bring it back to the store-"
"No! No! I'll keep it!"
Sweet boys.

𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐃𝐎𝐖𝐍 ;; 𝘬𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘮𝘢 𝘦𝘪𝘫𝘪𝘳𝘰 𝘹 𝘧.𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳
𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐃𝐒: 𝟏.𝟏𝐤
𝐀/𝐍: so this was supposed to be published on Kiri’s bday but, apparently, the writer’s block and my idiotic procrastination wouldn’t simply allow it... anyway, I hope you enjoy my comeback huhuhuuu!<33
𝐒𝐘𝐍𝐎𝐏𝐒𝐈𝐒: you hate to leave your boyfriend unattended and allow his mood to crumble, but especially today...
𝐓.𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐒: F L U F F F F F
"What's all that commotion about?" You asked as you entered the living room, where some of your classmates were.
You weren't sure what they were on about but, whatever it was, Kirishima didn't seem too content or uplifted about it. But you weren't letting anything ruin his mood.
Not at a day like this.
"Y/n...!"
"Is this your fault, blondie?" You demanded, eyes narrowing to a deadly glare towards a calmly seated Bakugo, as you took your own seat beside your boyfriend.
"How many times do I have to tell you to fucking stop calling me THAT, idiot?!" Bakugo protested, his anger naturally taking over his features.
"WHO DID YOU CALL AN IDIOT YOU--"
"Hey! Can you please calm down?! There's no reason to fight at a time like this!!" the redhead interrupted in his attempt to cool things down, yet also managing to gain your attention.
"Everything's fine. No one is to be blamed, we were just talking about... manly... stuff..." he explained, clearly not willing to get into too much detail.
You giggled and lightly pinched his cheek in response, "You and your manliness..."
"You shouldn't try to make me throw up, really." Bakugo commented upon rolling his eyes in irritation.
"Cell phones exist for a reason, Bakugo..." Denki mumbled without raising his gaze from the phone screen, giving the example of indifference for the other blonde.
Bakugo responded with a murderous look, while you shifted yours to Kirishima. You truly felt like you had to cheer him up somehow, so you dived in his welcoming embrace and buried your face in his chest, taking in all the wonderful, manly smell of his.
"What now?" your pitiful, innocent eyes met his crimson ones, struggling -- and probably succeeding -- to show him what you needed and consequently forcing a light shade of red to make an appearance to his cheeks.
One arm was suddenly wrapped around your fragile form, while another went to your soft hair and gently started to stroke it. His moves were filled with fondness and his built body was so welcoming, what with the warmth it emanated and all this incredibly magnetic aroma... your eyelids were beginning to feel too heavy for you, as you were listening to his steady heart beat and were concentrated to the way his chest rose and fell...
You thought you were in your bed, securely tucked under the sheets, especially when Kirishima placed a loving kiss on the crown of your head. You even forgot the others were there, as your boyfriend lulled you to sleep and your entire form was practically melting on his.
All that, until a certain someone decided to speak up.
"Did she really come all the way here just to sleep? Tsk, she's an idiot all right..."
"You're just jealous, like everyone." Kirishima retorted, not pausing any of his actions for a second.
"Everyone would want a girl like Y/n..." Sero admitted with a little blush on his cheeks, that unfortunately, you couldn't have seen.
You were thankful that you could feel the chuckle that emerged from Kirishima.
Several minutes of silence passed, which really impressed you, but since your purpose for coming was indeed not simply falling asleep and you were curious to see if the others were actually gone or simply maintained the peace and quiet, you made the decision to timidly open your eyes and speak.
"What's the time?"
"It's nearly midnight... the others went to sleep almost an hour ago..."
So I had actually been sleeping?!
"How long was I asleep?"
"Long enough..." Kirishima said with a yawn, his eyes clearly set to fall shut at any given moment. You genuinely felt bad that you had made him wait so long and lose his sleep for nothing basically.
"Kiri..." you almost whined, earning the redhead's attention, "I'm sorry..."
"You don't have to--"
"The original reason for my coming here was because..." You bit your lower lip, before offering him a sincere, love-filled look, "...I wanted to make sure that I'd be the first to wish you a happy birthday..." you confessed as your naive orbs locked with his surprised ones.
Strong arms were tightly folded around you, securing you enough as to ensure you could never escape. A familiar warmth was embracing you, flooding your senses with a feeling of acceptance and pure love. The most beautiful hug in the world, a hug the spoke of admiration, respect, love without conditions and limits.
"I love you."
DING!
You turned to look at the screen of your smart phone, as the notification sound resounded in the empty room.
00:00 PM.
"Happy Birthday, Kirishima baby".
If only you could feel how he felt upon hearing that simple yet meaningful phrase coming from your lips. How his heart almost jumped out of his chest as his veins pumped with adrenaline and his mind flooded with all the love he held for you. How he thought that you were no human but a god-sent angel, a blessing in disguise and at the same time, a goddess in front of his two red, adoration-filled orbs.
Of course you couldn't know, but you could certainly get an idea, a small fragment of what he experienced, when he grabbed you by your delicate face and kissed you with all the passion he was practically drowning in.
That moment felt so precious to you that you didn't even care about his sharp teeth acting a little uncomfortably to the passionate lip-lock. Because that moment was different; both your hands were needier than usual, searching feverishly for the warmness in each other, your lips and tongues dancing and exploring with insatiable hunger, your bodies aching for one another to the point it was hard to breathe.
And when you felt Kirishima's pointy teeth grazing the crook of your neck, and his hungry lips trailing endless paths of kisses, you couldn't contain the inappropriate sounds emerging from your vocals.
"Do... do you want to go to my dorm?" your boyfriend asked while still holding you in his arms, his expression still as naive as possible.
"Do you want to...?"
"Only if you are ready, Y/n." he replied firmly, honestly not caring at all if your response was coming out negative.
You were. Besides, you had already discussed this a lot of times, not only with Kirishima but also with your friends, and one thing you could agree on was that it's not something one can plan. If you felt ready, you should proceed and not double think anything.
With a curt nod, you swallowed and answered:
"I'm ready."
Without a second thought, the red-haired hero picked you up in his arms and carried you to his dorm. Needless to say, Kirishima had received the best birthday gift he would have ever wished for...
Hope you enjoyed! Leave a heart, comment, reblog! 💕

Cost of Kindness
Chapter IV: Complications
By: sophi-s
Fandom: Darksiders video games
Words: 6,656
Characters: Raphael, Original Female Character (OC), Fury
Warnings: Blood and Injury, Swearing (a lot of it XD)
Summary:
After far too many close calls and an adventure that will last her a lifetime, Nicola and Raphael finally make their way towards Haven. Unfortunately, not everything goes as smoothly as it could.
--------------------------------------------------
Many, many centuries ago taking off to the grand skies has become one of humanity's greatest dreams. They always wished to be able to fly, envying birds their wings and wishing to join them in their aerial conquest. It took many more ages to even try to think of it seriously and even longer for the humans to create the first working airplane and fulfill their dreams as the gravity kept thwarting all their plans. But once this seemingly impossible goal was accomplished, this event has been recorded on the pages of history as one of the most remarkable inventions of the human race.
When she was little, Nicola dreamed of flying on her own as well. She loved watching birds, tracking the planes soaring through the sky, so far away they looked like ants, and thinking about how it would be to have her own wings. Her dreams eventually were abandoned as she grew older, more serious and more reasonable. But honestly, if a week ago someone asked her if she would choose to have wings if she could, Nicola without hesitation would reply "a huge YES". Now however, she realised something she didn't really take into consideration before. While humans wished to rule the skies, they absolutely were not created for this. They have been made flightless, earth-ridden creatures and for a good reason. Her very apparent fear of heights made it awfully clear to her.
These thoughts were all Nicola could hear aside from the rustling of feathers on the wind as she desperately held onto her angel friend, her heart hammering in her chest, eyes wide and stomach making somersaults while everything was spinning around like a carousel. At a certain height the human body just starts to give up and refuse cooperation. For those who are afraid of heights the gap is even smaller and the symptoms more severe. All that was keeping her from fainting or throwing up there and then was the fact that she refused to look down to see how high they actually were but imagining the small buildings below her wasn't making it much better. If she survives this, she will never ask any angel for a fly again and - if it will ever be possible after the apocalypse - stay the heck away from any sort of working plane. Ground was where she belonged. Flying was not her cup of tea and no one will ever convince her otherwise.
Raphael seemed oblivious to the silent prayers spilling past her lips and just kept flying, fully focused on his destination, as she was absolutely certain she's going to die. Her muscles were completely stiff, as though she looked Medusa in the eye. She couldn't even see anything with how her face was buried in the rumpled fabric of Raphael's clothes but she assumed they were getting closer and closer. Focus on anything else than the height. Anything! She kept telling herself when her jaw started to hurt from how she was clenching her teeth. Easier said than done. Nicola knew that Raphael wasn't going to drop her. He promised her and lately she learned to trust him but the pull of gravity beckoning her down into the abyss and to a long plummet ending in a painful impact and certain death… The last time she was this panicked was when the Fallen jumped her out of nowhere. Speaking of which… God, please, let this be a smooth flight. No demons, I'm begging you..
Encounter with stray demons was the last thing they needed now. She didn't doubt Raphael's ability to defend both her and himself but if a flying demon was to attack them from surprise… Not a single part of her already malfunctioning brain could produce a scenario that wouldn't end in either of them dying or at least suffering grave injuries. In short words, any sort of aerial confrontation would mean serious trouble. And trouble wasn't something Nicola missed. Especially after the last night..
Seems like her prayers have been answered. So far nothing noticed an angel and a human passing overhead. And those demons which did apparently decided not to bother them since it didn't seem worth it or had no way of giving them trouble from where they were standing. Nicola stopped counting seconds of their journey long ago and the only indication of the passing time was the wind rushing through her hair slowing down as Raphael started to try and spare as much energy as he could, gliding whenever possible on his wings simply stretched out on both sides and flapping them only to keep the right height, out of range of any demons that could be sulking below when he began to grow weary. His stamina wasn't probably in the best condition after the time he spent in hiding and most likely not moving much.
When she gets back to Haven, Nicola is going to first, eat a solid lunch since her stomach was displeased again - though now she couldn't really feel it twisted in panic like that - second, go the fuck to sleep for the rest of the day. Even though she spent the last night sleeping like a dead woman, she didn't feel that well rested. The amount of stress she had to endure exhausted her and a few hours of rest weren't enough to regenerate her full strength. High on her bucket list was also taking care of Raphael, to at least make him look decent and dress any wounds he carried. Elanya could do that too but Nicola couldn't imagine that Raphael would let a maker he doesn't know do anything to him. She remembered how distrustful he was in the beginning. And after she gets back, no more escapades if not necessary. At least two weeks long break. Ulthane is going to make sure she stays there anyway so she might as well spend her time on sleeping and some light activities.
Speaking of Ulthane… Nicola wasn't actually sure what she'd say to him once she suddenly showed up in Haven after all that time with a traumatized, crazy angel at her side. To say it will be awkward as heck, would be a severe understatement. It's not even about Raphael. How is she going to explain herself to the overbearing maker who is standing on his head to save the last survivors of her kind while, by nearly killing herself three times already, she acted nothing if not ungrateful? And honestly, she wasn't in shape to wonder about it now because her mind refused to focus on anything else than this one thought of the lethal distance between her and the ground. Damn it all.. Why does she have to be afraid of heights and find out this very unpleasant way? Really, if someone tried to take her from Raphael before he landed or too short time after, they'd probably need a crowbar to pry her off him.
While Nicola thought that the flight itself was awful, the moment her stomach seemed to move up into her gullet as Raphael dipped towards the ground she unwittingly shrilly cried out in fear. And that was a mistake. The angel, startled by the quiet human he'd been holding this entire time suddenly screaming bloody murder for no apparent reason, tried to halt his descent to figure out what's wrong but it was already too late for that. As a result the landing was rather rough. Nicola closed her eyes and so she didn't see how Raphael clumsily hit the ground and barely kept himself propped up not to land on top of her as she slipped out of his grasp and lost her grip on his robes. The expectations of a long fall made her throat tighten and trap her voice inside. All the bigger relief once after barely an inch or two, her back connected with the surface, drawing a soft and strained "oof" from her.
Still scared, disoriented and confused, Nicola opened her eyes to see wide-eyed Raphael hunched over her, hands on either side of her head - with the staff to her left - and gawking at her with a slight panic on his face. Goodness, he was way too close. Pulling her arms close to her body in a helpless attempt to regain her personal space, she smiled awkwardly.
"H-hi there!"
The moment he saw that nothing was wrong and her face regained some of its color, Raphael breathed with relief and got off her, once again offering his hand to help her up. Once back on her feet, Nicola nearly cried out when she felt the solid ground under the soles of her boots. Blessed earth, she could literally kiss it right now. But the fact that they were not in Haven yet disconcerted her a little. Looking around, she noticed they're in an empty street in the middle of nowhere. Casting a questioning glance at Raphael she didn't even need to ask. The way his wings were slumped against his back, his breath heavier than before said it all. Plain and simple, Raphael was tired. Too tired to keep going. Still, he was eyeing her cautiously.
"Why… why were you screaming?"
Still feeling the nausea and the shaking of her knees, Nicola scratched the back of her neck and turned her eyes away ashamed.
"Ahuh… I'm not-... I'm not used to flying, that dip scared me a little. Sorry about this.."
Raphael said nothing to this, simply nodded, and lowered himself to the dusted road to have a seat by one of the decrepit stores. Nicola decided to let him have his five minutes to rest before going any further. Store. She suddenly realised. And not just any. A grocery store. At the mere thought her stomach rumbled. Not only could she have something for herself but also gather some stuff for others! If anything there is still edible that is. It wouldn't hurt to check. Every bit of food is precious.
"Raphael, can you wait here for a bit? I'll be back in a jiffy."
Out of the corner of her eye she already saw him shift in apprehension and almost begin to stand up. Probably because she ran once already and in his mind could do it again. She proceeded to calm him down immediately by pointing at the building she intended to search.
"I'll just go in there to look for stuff, don't worry. I will come back."
Staring at her for a couple of intense seconds, Raphael eyed her from head to toe twice before his concerned gaze softened a bit.
"Promise me…?"
Nicola smiled reassuringly and nodded. There weren't many options for her if she did want to run off. Besides, she wasn't quite sure where she was just yet. Her orientation in terrain was… less than decent as of late.
"I promise."
She offered and once Raphael sat somewhat comfortably back down, she took her backpack and shotgun - just in case - and stepped in through a broken window. The inside of the store was in utter disarray and even that was putting it lightly. Most of the shelves were toppled over, some even in pieces. Glinting shards of glass littered the floor, crunching under Nicola's feet every time she made a step. Unsurprisingly, nothing was working. No lights, no freezers, no ventilation. No time to waste. Nicola began her search immediately.
Approaching the fruit stand greeted her with bitter disappointment. Apples, oranges, pears and many other fruits were already rotten and sometimes even coated in white specks of mould. Definitely not good. With vegetables it was exactly the same. The only carrot that looked acceptable at first, turned out to have been completely wilted. Tossing it aside, Nicola moved on. She didn't even bother looking for meat. The stench hit her the moment she came inside and were it not for the smell of decomposing corpses that drifted around the sewers when she was there, she probably would've thrown up where she stood. Instead, she just covered her mouth and nose with her bandana.
Any dairy products were off the table too. Without working freezers every single one of them has surely gone sour by now. A diarrhea was not something she wanted to have in Haven and most likely neither did the makers. Nicola didn't dare to so much as touch any eggs that still were somehow intact. Bad idea. A smelly one as well. There's no way some of them haven't gone bad yet. The risk wasn’t worth it. Passing by one of the mostly whole shelves, she absent mindedly grabbed a bag of dry cat food and stuffed it into her backpack. It was highly probable that most of the survivors would be feeding the kitten with any leftovers but.. just to make sure the poor thing doesn't starve to death.
Most of the jars have broken during initial earthquakes but two small jars of pickles seemed to be mostly alright. Without giving it much thought, she placed them in her backpack. Four bags of freeze-dried fruits quickly found their way into her pockets once she got a hold of them. Under a broken shelf, Nicola spotted an edge of some packet. Assuming it was just crackers or something, she reached into the rubble for it but once she pulled it out… she immediately regretted her decision. It was, in fact, not a bag of crackers. It was a whole, torn bag of soured cabbage coated in some strange growth - probably mould - she didn't get a chance to really look at because her attention was caught by something inside the bag. Probably squeezed in through the tear and got stuck, a small, bloated body of a gigantic, hellish critter. Instinctively, Nicola yelped quietly and without giving it much thought she lobbed the thing across the whole store before wiping her hand on the nearest piece of rag that wasn't her clothes. She didn't even get any of the spilling juices on her but… gross. Just gross. Ew ew ew! Ignoring the wet splat the bag made when it hit the floor wasn't an easy task. Still shaking off the disgust, she continued her search, noting to herself never to touch something she isn't sure what it is.
From there it thankfully was starting to go much smoother. Two packets of crispbread, some dark chocolate and a box of tea were found and collected. Nicola nearly cheered out loud when she spotted a few Snickers on a shelf. One she immediately opened and eagerly ate while the rest landed safely in her backpack. It might be mostly sugar with a bit of peanuts but it was a good snack that could deceive the brain for quite some time. To be frank, Nicola lived half of the high school on those whenever her lessons lasted too long for her breakfast to keep her sated. Besides, she couldn't imagine others would mind her bringing a bunch. Especially Marie. Jacob will most likely strangle Nicola if his daughter eats too much sweets but in the end it'll be worth it. Anything would be worth putting a smile on that sad little face.
Somewhere on the floor, Nicola even found a box of vitamins which luckily was not out of date yet. With a deficit of fruits and vegetables, those could be lifesavers. Especially for Leslie. She needs the most of it. Unfortunately, the space in her backpack was very much limited and soon she couldn't put anything more in there. Rearranging the contents of it, she put in one bottle of water, careful not to crush the crispbread and chocolate. At least she found something. Her escapade wasn't all for nothing when it comes to supplies. But even without those, she wouldn't say she regrets it. Against all the odds, she lived. And most importantly, she gained an otherworldly friend. And in times like these, a friend is something to be treasured.
Slinging her now much heavier backpack on her shoulders, she picked up her gun and headed towards the broken window she used as an entrance before. Peeking out from the store, she saw Raphael where she'd left him and a very much awake cat playfully attacking the longest quill of his left wing. His head perked up when she dropped onto the sidewalk beneath the window and she could've sworn she'd seen the corner of his mouth twitch upwards for a second there. Smiling, she unfolded her hands and shrugged.
"See? I keep my promises."
The angel hummed quietly before leaning his head against the wall behind him and closing his eyes. Nicola was about to ask if he's good to go but let the thought perish when she noticed his eyebrows furrow and his chapped lips twist into a slight grimace. Soon after, his right hand wandered up to his chest as he took a couple of quick and shallow breaths through his clenched teeth. If Nicola didn't know any better, she'd have said Raphael was having a heart attack. Can an angel even have an infarct? She honestly had no idea. In fact, she didn't even know how old he is. She couldn't tell. All the angels she'd met so far had white hair so that's not a hint to go by and his face didn't necessarily look old or young. He seemed as ageless as the time itself. Still, she didn't want to take any chances.
"Raphael? What's wrong?!"
She asked as she crouched beside him and laid a hand on his shoulder to steady him if needed. Raphael simply slowly shook his head and turned to look at her tiredly. And in his blank eyes she saw the already familiar pain and a spark of a silent plea.
"Just a little longer.. Let me rest a while…"
It took everything Nicola had in her to stop the sigh of relief. It didn't sit right with her that Raphael was still suffering and she could do absolutely nothing about it but hearing he's mostly fine, with only the usual ailing him, made her feel a tad easier. When his breathing grew slower and calmer, she even let herself slip down to the floor beside him.
"Sure. We have time, I guess.."
It was still relatively early, barely an hour or two after noon and Nicola wasn't that eager to return into the sky so soon. Only thinking about it made her feel a little sick. Hopefully, it wasn't too far to Haven from here. Even though Nicola really wanted to finally get home, she decided to be patient with her companion. He was wounded and most likely ill but he still tried his best to help her, even though he hadn't known her that long. He deserves a moment. Nicola too needed to sit down for a second as her thigh was still a bloody nuisance. Just a few more minutes. It wouldn't do harm to have a little break now, would it?
Yes. Yes it would. Nicola suddenly realised when she saw the kitten arc its back and puff its tail out. It hisses loudly before scurrying away into the store she just left and soon enough Nicola realised why once she looked into an alley ahead of her. The sight of a massive, winged shape made it painfully obvious. Her heart nearly ceased and Raphael beside her tensed at the sight of an enormous demon with curved horns and teeth, each the size of her palm, resembling a set of barbed knives made specifically to cut meat. The edges of long healed wounds that left behind terrible scars on her abdomen began to itch as she gawked at the familiar monster that nearly took her life. Flapping of gigantic wings that covered the sky with its expanse… Razor sharp claws curling around her body… the same talons tearing into her flesh as Ulthane attempted to free her from its grasp. And this shriek… oh God, this shriek…
Despite the apparent pain and exhaustion, Raphael slowly - not to agitate the demon - got up to his feet and raised his wings threateningly as he stepped in front of aghast Nicola. The fact that due to its bulkiness this thing seems almost twice as large as he is doesn't make an impression on him. Or maybe it does but he doesn't show it. The Fallen stared at Raphael with its small red eyes as a pair of Phantom Guards rounded a corner and joined the beast. Each carried a jagged blade that could easily tear through angelic armor. Nicola had seen it happen. Following them was another bloody Goreclaw. But these three she barely even noticed. Her wide eyes were focused on the larger demon. She felt her muscles refuse cooperation and seize. She couldn't move, couldn't speak. Her mind repeatedly screamed No nono no NO! Not like this!!
With excited roars, the lesser demons charged towards the angel standing between them and the weak, pathetic and helpless human as the Fallen spread its wings and took off into the air. Even as Nicola kept stone still, Raphael remained sharp and ready to act as always. One spell spilled past his lips and the flying demon instantly went rigid before plummeting back onto the ground and crashing into a broken car, setting its annoying alarm off. It didn't discourage the other three but it let Nicola find will to move and clutch her gun tighter. Ever since she'd met Raphael, he'd been doing nothing but getting her arse out of trouble. Taking a shaky breath she decided to start repaying favors.
Though, once again she didn't really have a chance to do anything as she was dumbstruck by the following scene playing out before her. As the hellish monsters charged, Raphael took his staff in both hands and held it before himself, closing his eyes and muttering an incantation in his melodious language. The moment the first demon stepped a tad too close, Raphael's eyes snapped open, burning like two white suns and a sleek ethereal blade materialized from the tip of what Nicola previously thought just an ornament or a walking cane. It glowed like the purest light ever to exist. Another assumption Nicola made about Raphael turned out to have been false. The last thing she can say about him is unarmed. He carried no blade, no gun or anything but who needs a weapon as lame as those when in addition to powerful sorcery you have a freaking lightsaber?
Everything lasted less than a second as the angel led a wide, sweeping slash of his spectral sword… spear thing… and promptly relieved the Phantom Guard of its horned head, before stopping the pouncing Goreclaw with a flick of his free hand, suspending it in the air growling and hissing. The other Phantom Guard had no chance to either attack the vulnerable angel or retreat, when Raphael was busy cutting down the quadrupedal demon, as Nicola came back to her senses and, instead of running like she always has, jumped forward and fired her shotgun. The resounding bang travelled through the entire city, bouncing off the walls and drifting far into the desolate town but it had the effect Nicola counted on.
The Phantom Guard staggered backwards with a chest full of buckshot, wheezed a couple times and tripped over onto its back never to get up again. With adrenaline still pumping through her veins, Nicola stared at the either dead or dying demon in wonderment, her brain trying to process what just happened, before releasing a breathless laugh of triumph. She killed one. She actually killed one! Raphael too seemed rather surprised but not unpleasantly so as he let the blade fade away.
"I got it! Did you see that?!"
"That indeed, I have.."
He said as he eyed her carefully, probably just to check if she's fine. Aside from a little fresh blood on his boots and hands, Raphael didn't seem to have gotten hurt in any way. Well… more than he'd already been at least. Nicola beamed up at him nearly bursting with pride at her actual first kill on a demon larger than her shin. And he seemed happy for her, if the soft smile he regarded her with could be an indication. But this victory didn't last long. Her own smile faded when she saw the Fallen stiffly getting up from where it slammed onto the ground, pure rage on its monstrous face. Her pulse began to race again but this time she refused to let the panic get a hold of her just yet.
"Watch out!!"
She cried too late, just a sliver of a second too late. Raphael whipped around to face the attacker and all he managed to do was raise his hand before the charging demon swung its head to the left. And with the force of a truck driving at the speed of fifty miles per hour, slammed it into the angel, making a formula of a spell die on his lips as he was sent flying through the air and crashing against a nearby building. The force of the impact caved in the wall and the kind, mad angel disappeared in a cloud of dust. All that was left were a couple of white feathers slowly falling to the ground.
"NO!"
Nicola didn't pay any mind to how her voice broke and squeaked pitifully when her heart leaped up into her throat. She could only stare at the place where Raphael vanished with a rumbling crash as the enraged demon growled in the same direction. Not a single part of her being agreed with what she'd just witnessed. A second before he was standing right there, like nothing was about to happen, distracted by her gushing over her first serious kill. Nothing should have happened, why did the demon unravel Raphael's magic just like that? Even a Shadowcaster didn't manage to do that! Why would this one? And why… Tears welled up in her eyes as her lower lip trembled… why did it have to… end the way it did…?
To make matters worse, the Fallen was still before her, still furious and thirsting for blood. Not wasting more time, Nicola pulled out a handful of new bullets and tried to reload her weapon but it proved almost impossible with how much her hands were shaking. Thank Christ, the demon was taking its sweet time as it faced her and began to lumber towards her on all fours, huffing out breaths stinking of rotting meat. Faster, faster, damn it! Nicola cursed inwardly when she dropped a couple of shells before she finally managed to place the ammunition where it should be. But when she looked up, the Fallen was on top of her already. Parting its jaws wide, ready to swallow her whole.
The scream of anguish that felt so tempting in the back of her throat never came to be. In a second, Nicola thought about all the horrors she'd lived through. All demons she'd met, all shambling corpses of former humans brought back by vile sorcery. All friends she'd made and lost.. Raphael, do just one thing for me. She gritted her teeth as her knuckles turned white from how she was gripping her weapon. Despair started to turn into rage. Burning bright and white hot inside of her, the flame Raphael had helped her see. Please, be alive when I come for you… The demon lunged forward to sever the string of her measly life by biting her in half. But Nicola wasn't going to let it get her so easily. Her fear was forgotten as she stuck the barrel of her shotgun into the monster's opened maw. She didn't want to die. Not now, not like this. For once she wanted to have a say over her own fate. Over the date of her demise. She is still young, she had a whole life ahead of her. And all those demonic dickheads with the Destroyer leading the charge decided to ruin everything and not only for her, but for every human who lives still and who has perished. And those who are yet to be born. She refused. She will not die. Not here. Not killed by that thing.
"FUCKOFF!!!"
And she fired. Partially, the sound was muffled by the demon's mouth snapping shut just barely missing Nicola's arms as she let go of her gun. The Fallen recoiled and began to shriek in pain, spitting out its own blood onto the concrete at its feet. Nicola didn't have delusions she could kill it but it gave her the precious seconds she needed. She ran for the closest hiding place available, which was the store she just left. Nicola leaped in through the broken window and quickly made it to the opposite wall to put as much distance between herself and the writhing monstrosity as possible. And it was a good choice. A loud roar from the street made her heart fall into her heels as the injured demon finally gathered its bearings.
Nicola looked at the Fallen that was coming her way with murder in its eyes. The unexpected bout of courage has long faded and the petrifying fear once again had Nicola in its chilling grasp. Even with the mouthful of bullets, the Fallen did not intend to give up on its prey. And here she hoped it would piss off if she fed it with lead… Snarling and panting, the demon approached the broken window with its own blood pouring from between its sharp fangs. It only added to the menacing image of the beast that had Nicola trembling and frozen.
Think, Nicola, THINK! What can she do against an opponent far bigger, stronger and more dangerous than a single human without a weapon? The Fallen was trying to fit through the window, reaching out with its clawed paw to try and get her. Nicola looks around in panic, looking for anything that could save her. In a grocery store. Good luck. Eventually, she says "fuck it" and grabs a most likely rancid egg. The laughably small projectile splatters over the face of the demon with a squelch and even from far away Nicola is sure this egg was definitely rotten. Even the Fallen stops for a second to shake the disgusting goop off of its head but before it's done, another egg flies through the air and cracks on its head, just as stinky as the previous one.
"How'd ya, like that, asshole?! Wanna have some more?!"
Nicola yells at the demon, holding yet another egg, fully prepared to just chuck it at the monster. Unfortunately, all she managed to do was piss it off even further as its efforts in reaching her doubled. Pieces of plaster and bricks were coming loose as the demon tried to wriggle into the shop to finally kill that annoying pest lobbing small, smelly things at it. As a result, an egg once again hit the demon while Nicola kept shouting out profanities that probably made her poor mother toss and turn in her grave. She's not going down without a fight, even if the said fight is done by throwing eggs and all the gross shit she found on the floor. But she knew she isn’t getting out of this one.
And so, this is it. Nicola couldn't believe she would die by the claws of the same creature that nearly killed her once before. Was Ulthane rescuing her only delaying the inevitable? What a sick joke… Why does fate insist on being cruel? There was so much she wanted to say, so many apologies she had to give… so little time… There was nothing she could do. At least… she will see Nicholas again.. her parents and every friend she'd lost in this cursed apocalypse. A miracle would've been nice. A tiny one. Just this once. Please?
And boy, did she get her wish. A sudden force violently tearing the Fallen out of the shop nearly startled her out of her dirty and tattered jeans. Hardly believing her eyes, she watched as her would-be killer screeched in rage and surprise when it was wrenched free from the ruined window and was gone from her vision. A sudden tremor shook the whole building, sending small bits of debris raining down on her head as a mighty roar reverberated through her very bones. But it wasn't the Fallen. It was something meaner. Something… Nicola swallowed thickly at the thought… bigger. Or at least as large as this fucker. Then came clacking of metal, ungodly screeching of the demon. A second later Nicola saw as it was flung through the air like a sack of potatoes and crashed against a block of flats. Instant karma. She thinks with bitter satisfaction when she remembers what that faggot did to Raphael. I need to somehow get to him. Honestly though, she doesn't really want to know what managed to just YEET a Fallen like a skipping rock.
Unfortunately, she finds out and finds out quite soon. From her hideout, she sees an enormous creature, nearly as big as the demon that threatened her, charging towards the stunned monster still bleeding from its mouth. If Nicola had been terrified of the Fallen, then she was on the verge of having a straight out SCA after seeing this chunk of a behemoth. Whatever this thing was, it was the size of an average tree. Its armored hide was burning with red and white flames which were enveloping twin jagged, metal whips it held in its hands. Vestigial wings were trembling with wrath as it turned its radiant white eyes at the battered demon. Between a pair of sweeping horns that crowned its head was a flickering blaze that flared with each step the monstrosity took towards its quarry. Right.. What's the best way to get rid of a monster? Sic a stronger monster on it. The Fallen shrugged off and growled at its new assailant, challenging it to a fight.
While the two beasts were circling one another, battling she couldn't even guess what for, Nicola braced for what was to come. This is a horrible idea. Breath in and breath out. In and out. And when the Fallen pounced at its attacker, she bolted. Not stopping, she ran. Through the street the demons were fighting on, past them - so close she could feel the heat radiating off of the newcomer - and into the building Raphael disappeared in. Nicola hoped she was ready for what she was about to find. She really did. Jumping in through the punched in wall however, she soon found out she was, in fact, not ready. The moment she entered, she immediately caught the sight that made something squeeze inside of her.
On a pile of rubble from the destroyed wall was Raphael coated in dust. Still. Not moving, his mesmerising white eyes shut. Oh fuck, oh fuck, oh God, oh NO! Not thinking, all fear and uncertainty she ever felt in his presence was long cast away, Nicola rushed over to him pleading, begging everything that would listen for him to be alive. Don't leave me here like this… Dropping at his side into the rubble, Nicola lays her ear on the top of his chest and doesn't let herself relax until she hears a heartbeat and a shallow breath within. Words cannot describe how much she deflated once she did. He's still alive.. but he doesn’t look good.
"Raphael! Please say something! Can you hear me?!"
Thankfully, angel's eyes lolled open as she spoke to him, hinting that he indeed can hear her. Trying his best to keep his unfocused gaze on her face, Raphael furrowed his eyebrows and lifted his upper lip in a pained sneer as his hand wandered up to clutch at his side where the demon's heat struck him.
"Nnn… Nnii… co…"
He weakly attempted to speak but without much success. No joke, he must've hit his head really hard and she dreaded to think about the state of his ribcage.. But hey! At least he hears and understands what Nicola is saying. And it's a good sign.. right…? Wasting no more time, Nicola helped him sit up, keeping her hand on his forehead to steady him as his own palm rested over hers. Even squinting in pain, Raphael kept looking at her, as though she was the only point of focus he could think of.
"Hang in there, okay?! Please, Phel.. We'll be fine…"
Liar. Something snaps at her. They're pretty much defenseless and vulnerable with a very livid demon still threatening them. One or the other will come out victorious. And to the victor go the spoils… Raphael tried to say something but still couldn't formulate words properly due to the splitting headache pulsing through his entire skull. Though even through ringing in his head and pain in his chest that somehow rivaled the one he constantly felt, he found something in this human's words that baffled him. In her panic, Nicola doesn't catch a puzzled look he sends her way.
Phel?
A choked up cry of a dying demon made them both jump a little and look out through the hole Raphael made when the demon gored him. Just in time to see the flaming beast standing on top of the Fallen and strangling it with its whips. Then, the creature of… quite blatantly feminine curves gave one sharp tug and the demon's head was brutally severed from the rest of its body. And everything fell silent.
Instinctively, Nicola halted her breath and ceased any movement, watching the winner (Nicola felt fully comfortable with calling it per "she" now) shoot a glance towards her and Raphael who by this point tiredly laid his head on her shoulder, heaving in attempts to draw a proper breath. The creature approached slowly, keeping Nicola frozen in place and desperately holding onto her injured friend. When the demon was at the wall, only her massive legs were visible. Seconds ticked by as a set of claws rested above the opening to the house, and a monstrous head loomed through the hole.
That would be more than enough to make Nicola pass right the Hell out but.. Something about this creature intrigued her. It didn't have a snarling, toothy maw but an almost featureless face with the curve of a nose and a pair of bright and ferocious, intelligent eyes. It stared at her with more understanding than any demon Nicola had ever seen. Whatever it was, it didn't seem aggressive for some weird reason. At least not yet.. Then, unexpectedly, the creature was enveloped in red flames as its humongous form began to shrink and reshape into something much smaller but still a good two heads taller than an average human.
From the hot light emerged a very humanlike woman in intricate metal armor. Black tattoos marked her stern face around her luminous, white eyes and on her forehead, right below the line of incredibly dense magenta colored hair which floated freely around her head, defying gravity like it's the most natural thing in the world. Whoever it was, even with an intimidating aura of strength and resolve, her close resemblance to a human calmed Nicola somewhat. Plus, she had to admit that this woman had the looks. Men would probably be killing one another for her. Honestly, Nicola felt kind of jealous.. But considering she was still pretty much helpless with a half-conscious angel leaned against her, it didn't put her fully at ease. At least until the stranger spoke in plain English. Then Nicola finally released the breath she was holding. Crossing her arms, the tall lady sneered slightly at the human and angel before her.
"Well, would you look at that. Guess it's your lucky day today."

beep beep (4) - richie tozier
some sexy stuff, swearing, angst, the usual. i don't know how many more parts there are going to be but if 5 is the last one then prepare for a Big Boy™
@ceruleanrainblues @the-star-above-you @a-second-hand-sorrow @shockwavee
----
the divorce was messy. timothy took pretty much everything on the grounds that you had run off with another man (which you thought was pretty fair) and he also had slandered your name in front of your whole family in court, which was actually quite petty of him. richie almost murdered him, that day, and had to keep his hand in yours so that he wouldn't get up and break timothy's nose again right in front of his big-shot lawyer.
your family, it was safe to say, did not approve of richie, because timothy was always such a nice boy, and you've made a terrible mistake, dear. the only one who ever did like richie was your grandmother, and she was long gone, bless her cotton socks.
so, yeah, you'd run off with richie.
yeah, you'd escaped from an unhappy marriage in which you never felt loved to be with someone who looked at you like you hung the fucking moon.
okay, granted, you did sleep with richie that night, which wasn't entirely moral, considering you were married to another man, but, yknow, timothy hadn't gone anywhere near you in months and months, and richie was just so good at the sex thing.
also, you loved him. so much.
leaving you with barely enough money to pay your hospital bills sucked. you weren't even sure how timothy was able to do that legally.
but it was alright. you took your stuff and moved into richie's penthouse apartment in malibu almost as soon as you'd been discharged from the hospital. he had made enough money over the first half of his trash-mouth tour to support the both of you for the time being, and he cancelled the reno dates, and all the dates for the foreseeable, because all he wanted to do was be around you and the rest of the losers.
your books and mugs and weird stuff that you'd hoarded over the years slowly spread themselves around richie's apartment, and it made him so happy because it was so utterly domestic.
whenever he saw your shoes in the hallway or your toothbrush in the weird ceramic holder with a bee on it that bev had bought him, he grinned like a stupid, lovestruck idiot, because he was a stupid, lovestruck idiot.
eddie came over a lot, regularly crashing in the spare bedroom because he, too was going through a divorce, and myra kaspbrak was quite a bit more intimidating than timothy. so, that became eddie's room while he was looking for his own apartment.
and you were so fucking happy.
the piece of string that had been serving as your engagement ring after richie proposing on a whim was a constant reminder of how loved you were, and you tied a matching one around his finger, because you didn't feel it was fair that he got to do the whole cute proposal thing.
it had been six months since derry. since the sewers, since defeating IT for the final time. since reuniting with your soulmate. you were sure that life couldn't get better.
eventually, you'd gotten an actual ring.
richie had given it to you on a whim, as usual, opening the little ring box in your direction while you were both surrounded by chinese food, the fourth consecutive episode of snapped playing in the background.
you had choked on your wok-fried garlic and soy broccoli, and he'd thumped your back so you wouldn't almost die, again, which hurt your recovering shoulder, and then he had panicked, and you were crying and laughing and choking all at the same time.
point is, he had given you a ring.
it was a thin, gold band with three little diamonds set into the middle, and you had immediately fallen in love with it.
you hadn't, however, wanted to take off the piece of string, so you wore it on the same finger as the proper engagement ring. richie was relieved because he also hadn't wanted to take the string off.
that night, after some really really great celebration sex, (albeit a little careful, as you sometimes got sharp pains up and down your ribs if you exerted yourself too much) richie bared his soul to you.
he told you everything.
and he cried, and he trembled because he was so scared of ending things with you before they had even begun.
it was the first time he had ever said it out loud.
"i'm bisexual."
and he had let out a breath, then. a breath that he had been holding in for almost three decades.
"oh, richie." and you held him to you without a second thought.
you had always known, somehow.
you'd known, for the same reason one knows the sun has risen. because you had eyes.
you'd seen how richie had always gravitated towards eddie, always grabbing onto him in moments of distress, the soft looks richie would give him when he didn't have time to put up his walls. you knew, and you loved him all the same. of course you did.
you didn't tell him, however, that you had known.
because this moment was so important. the moment where he finally had control over his life and his identity and he was spilling his heart out to you. you would not take that away from him.
this was his time. his moment. his life.
he told you about eddie, and the arcade, and the kissing bridge, and how he'd always, always pushed it down but now it was only the two of you, and if he was to marry you, he wanted everything out in the open.
and god damn you if you let him keep hating himself.
"richie, thankyou for telling me. im so happy that you... that you felt you could talk about it. and to me."
"so... you're not..."
"angry? no. honey, this is who you are. what kind of partner would i be if i didn't love you for who you are? you're perfect, richie."
he cried again, and you let him, because he fucking needed it.
----
richie's nightmares were bad.
really, really fucking bad.
he didn't have them as much as beverly said she had, because, while he had been caught in the deadlights, It was dead and couldn't push into his mind any further. he often couldn't remember what they were about, only that he woke up so scared he would cry. the deadlight-induced terrors came and went, but they always caught both of you off guard.
when it first happened, you were more than a little bit confused, because richie was not a restless sleeper.
you woke to quiet whimpers coming from the man sleeping beside you as he writhed under the bedlinen.
in your sleep-addled haze, it took you a minute to understand what was happening, wiping the sleep from your eyes and adjusting to the darkness.
what, moments ago, was little more than disturbed whimpers, was now loud, heart-fucking-wrenching sobs, the only sound in the otherwise silent apartment.
his body shook next to yours and you were beginning to panic, reaching for him.
"richie? baby, wake up." you shook him lightly, noting the sweat practically dripping from him, and his face, scrunched in fear. he whined lowly, jerking in the bed, but he did not wake. you hadn't been faced with such a situation before, especially not with him, so this was touch and go.
this had never happened before and you were absolutely shitting bricks.
you shook him again, and he jolted awake, crying out as he sat up with a start.
"richie?"
his eyes snapped open, searching wildly around the room for something that wasn't there.
the only light came from the moon and city lights outside your house. sobs of pain overtook him, great, heaving breaths, and then the man you were in love with was crying his fucking eyes out in front of you; fisting his hands in his sweat-soaked hair as his whole body shuddered.
they were tremors he had no control over, the aftershocks of the nightmare taking control of him.
it broke your heart. your face softened as you reached for him again.
god, he held on to you so tight that you almost started crying yourself.
"eddie..." he choked. "ben didn't warn him in time. and i-i-i couldn't... fuck-"
"eddie is at home." you murmured, pressing your lips to his sweat-slick forehead "a ten minute drive. he just moved in. we can go up to see him tomorrow, if you want."
"It's... It's in my head." richie sobbed. the front of your shirt was soaked through with tears. "It's still in my head."
"It's dead, richie."
"so why can i still feel it?"
and you didn't know what to tell him.
---
your first fight, needless to say, sucked.
you didn't even remember what you were fighting about, only that you screamed at each other a lot, and there were tears, and it ended with richie, head in his hands, asking you to leave him alone for a minute in a voice so uncharacteristically calm that it scared you. and so you left for the bedroom, shutting the door, your head swimming and chest burning from the sobs you'd been caging in there.
you knew, realistically, that this was just one fight, and you'd be back to normal within the hour, but this was the first fight you'd had since you were kids, and god only knows how hot headed you'd gotten in the 27 years since then. both of you.
and you hated yourself for letting it get this far and making him not want to be around you.
it was times like this, when richie's nightmares were at their worst and you woke up every night like fucking clockwork to make sure he was real and still there and still breathing, and eddie came round constantly because he couldn't stand being alone in a new place, it was times like this that you needed to be close. so while it was just a dumb fight, you allowed yourself to cry.
richie clicked open the door about half an hour later, shuffling into the room. his eyes were red and he was probably shaking a little bit, you thought.
"im sorry." his voice came out small, and you sat up from the bed immediately.
"no, im sorry, rich. i was overreacting and it was fucking stupid and we need to just-"
and richie all but staggered forwards, grabbing your face in his hands and kissing you, hard. you gasped, and he used the opportunity to gain access to the inside of your mouth. cheeky bastard.
you both had been crying for a while, so the kiss was rather wet, but you overlooked it on account of the fact that his hand was not-so-discreetly sliding up your shirt and fumbling at your bra clasp. as suave as he liked to think he was, his bra skills needed work. he eventually did it, and seemed more than a little bit proud of himself, muttering a triumphant: "fuck yeah."
you tugged richie's bottom lip between your teeth and he fucking groaned. and that noise coming from his mouth was so fucking hot that your knees almost buckled.
you made a mental note to do the sex thing really really well tonight, because the sex thing was definitely happening and it had been a bad night for the both of you and you fucking needed him, right the fuck now.
it wasn't long before you ended up underneath him, and he was pressing open mouthed kisses to your inner thighs, and you were breathing hard and you honestly thought that if he didn't get the fuck on with it you'd probably die right there.
"rich- ahh- richie?"
"yes, baby?"
god, how the fuck was he so smug all the time?
"i think you should- fuck, oh my god- probably get on with things right the the fuck now, or i'll have to... i'll-" you curled your fingers into his hair, your nails scratching across his scalp.
"or?" he hummed, continuing his ministrations everywhere except where you wanted them.
"i'll have to, mmmh, hurt you, actually." you whispered, breathless. you were unable to form a solid argument, what with richie fucking tozier being so sexy and all, teasing the shit out of you.
"you will?" richie put a hand on each of your legs and spread them further apart, his lips relentless, sucking and biting your sensitive flesh. this man was going to fucking kill you, god.
"yeah, yeah, i'll- ahh- bite your fucking face off, or something-"
and then he was between your thighs, right fucking there, so he never did find out what that something actually was, because whatever came out of your mouth after that wasn't decipherable.
---
"we shouldn't fight." richie murmured, as if he was afraid of being too loud in case he broke the moment.
you traced gentle patterns on his chest with your fingertips.
"i know." you said, equally as cautious.
"but i don't even remember what we were fighting about, and we just had several rounds of the apology." he laughed quietly, kissing your bare shoulder.
smirking at the hickeys on your collarbone, he pressed a kiss there, too, admiring his handiwork.
"i love you, fuck face." you yawned, your eyes fluttering shut.
"yeah, and i love you, dickweed."
richie stared fondly at the piece of string around his ring finger. you would be alright. after all, your wedding was coming up.
he had no nightmares that night.

Anastasia The Musical Quotes
Why must you go?
It is time to go, I have stayed too long here.
There is a bridge there named for your grandfather.
Take me with you now.
You are my favourite, strong and not afraid of anything.
Our lullaby, when you play it, think of an old woman who loves you very very much.
Have you said your prayers?
A music box so the child will remember me.
Better prayers than music boxes in these difficult times.
It's the last ball of the winter season.
All of them?
All of them.
We hear you friends, all our dreams have been delayed.
The chains of the old _ were heavy.
I could have you arrested for saying that.
I will tell the playwright.
If you weren't so handsome, I would report you.
Well, we tried my friend.
It's a fake!
No one spots a fake like _ the biggest fake of them all.
The only one a fooled at court was myself.
What happened?
_ took one look at me and said: That man is an imposter.
At least they will feed us in jail.
I need exit papers.
What are you running away from?
I am running to someone.
I am not crazy.
There is a canal right outside, jump in and start swimming.
Now what, you are not going to faint on us?
I was in this room before.
Everyone was polite and kind.
This isn't a soup kitchen.
You seem to be a gentleman.
I haven't heard that word in a long time.
Life hasn't been too easy for anyone.
They gave me a name at the hospital.
They told me I had amnesia, there was nothing they could do about it.
Tell us what you do remember.
Have you heard the rumours?
Everyone has.
She is a street sweeper.
It's not gossip, it's the truth.
I need to find out who I am, but I am not going to lie to do it.
I wish I had your confidence.
How do you become the person you have forgotten you ever were?
You are the ones who don't stand straight.
Bowing is a sign of respect.
I bowed to someone ones.
I was a boy, I didn't know any better.
She is a natural.
She's charming

Our little troublemaker has been found.
Funny businesses going on there.
Why was I brought here?
You stopped shaking, I see, that's good.
What is the charge.
Life has been good to you, you have a job, food on the table, your own place in our new order.
The legitimacy of this government will not be challenged.
If you really were who you are pretending to be, they would kill you without hesitation.
Let's be friends instead.
It's the uniform and the job that make the bad impression.
Everyone imagines being someone else.
Look who you are and be thankful, the future of our beloved _ , not it's hated past.
I'm late for work as it is.
Thank you for your warning.
I hope we haven't seen the last of each other.
Your eyes, a man can look right into them...
Be careful, they will give you away.
Have I made myself clear.
They know where we are living.
I don't like these people.
If you don't want her, I will take her.
Next tome I won't go so easy.
That makes two of us.
There must be more to life than just surviving it.
Don't act so tough.
This is my favourite few.
He was an anarchist.
We make ourselves better than our circumstances.
Who raised you?
I raised myself.
What's that across the river?
I want to be someone who belongs to someone.
Tell me about that little dog.
I loved him so much.
I am not as strong as you think I am.
Close your eyes.
You have worked hard, you earn it.
It's a music box... and it's broken.
How did you do that?
They are cancelling trains left and right.
We are not even close.
You were the only hope I had.
I said I was sorry.
I didn't trust you enough.
It's a diamond.
A secret she kept, but why I don't know.
Don't tell a soul till the moment you must.
I had to make sure I found someone I trust.
It's the only thing I have, without it I have nothing!
We are done for if we go back there.
I didn't trust either of you with it.
I don't blame you.
I talked my way into two coronations.
Are you sure we have got the right papers?
God bless you!
He is not just an aristocrat, he is an intellectual as well, he is a dead man on both count.
There is no more first class.
I am in a compartment with a crazy woman.
She sounds like a dragon.
She was beautiful, voluptuous and married, everything I look for in a woman.
Did you love her?
Is there a problem?
We are looking for someone who is illegally leaving the country.
We know what happened.
Her tears will betray us.
They are decent men, they won't hurt us.
Once e are across the boarder we are save.
When I make a mistake it's a big one.
The compartment was empty.
We must put an end to these rumors.
Here is a little traitor, claiming royal kin.
Finish the job for your father like a good son.
Leave her floating in the _ .
You are the word and the shield of the revolution.
It is really very simple, you merely point the gun and then you pull the trigger and the job is done.
Learn something!
She will break your heart
Be quiet.
First rule, don't mix business with pleasure.
I am ready to be astonished.
I don't think he has ever been in a real bathtub.
I'll be alone.
She can't always be resting.
She is an old woman who has outlived her place in history.
If only I could lose hope entirely.
Another day, another imposter.
I didn't ask for they love, I was their _ .
They all do their homework.
The great war was the war to end all wars.
I am not looking for work.
But when they gave the order to fire, no one could pull the trigger.
Still up to your old tricks?
I am glad you are not dead, that's as far as I am prepared to go.
Didn't you get my letter?
I am not the woman you remember.
That was then, when the world was beautiful.
There is a young woman I want you to meet.
We are going to change history-
Stay with me, _, I'm frightened.
I was beginning to wonder if you were ever going to pay me a compliment.
She is never in a good mood.
The composure, we did a good job.
I needed a stiff glass of vodka.
She wouldn't even look at me.
I was cold and hungry and desperate when I met you, but I wasn't dishonest!
I hate you for that!
She only wants what's rightfully hers.
Try to imagine her life since her parents, sisters, little brother were murdered.
I lost everything I loved that day!
God will judge you harshly, _ ,history already has.
He turned his back to you!
It was my life you played with.
No wonder you were dismissed from court!
People like you deserve every bad hand life deals.
I admired the way you were proud of who you are, despite your circumstances.
Please be seated.
Spare me my family history.
I didn't think you would be so cruel.
That was before they murdered everyone she loved.
How dare you sit without my permission?
I am trying to see the resemblance, I don't trust my eyes.
I have found solace in my bitterness, it drips steadily, like a black poison, it doesn't disappoint me.
Tears will get you nowhere.
You can't be anyone unless you first recognize yourself.
Do you know what it means to lose everything?
I am a historian of the heart.
We never know which goodbye is the last.
It's never too late to come home.
All that matters is that we found each other.
No wonder my parents laughed at you behind your back.
Quit while you are ahead.
Now, where is your young man?
You have made this the happiest day of my life, make sure it is yours as well.
I mean you no harm.
I belive I'm damned to eternity for not pulling that trigger as surly as if I had.
What will you tell them?
She'll live like a queen, even though people don't want queens any more, well the _ do, but they are crazy.
I don't want to be in love with someone I can't have for the rest of my life.
I'm not your prince.
She was a dream, a beautiful dream, a dream that only time will fade.
The new order has no need for fairytales.
The case is closed.
