How to do perfect staging: a lesson from Italy
I mentioned at some point I might actually make a post drooling over Italy's Måneskin performance and staging. I was kinda bored to be honest and decided against it but then all those trashy rumours that try to bring the winners down seemed so disgraceful and embarrassing to me that I decided again to do it. Now, the truth is that their performance was a little better in the semi-final introduction act. Perhaps this was due to the anxiety of the Grand Final. This is why I am going to use photos and gifs from that act and perhaps this will show to some that the perfect package might need a little bit of everything, and not just slap your language on the audience's ears with the expectation that this alone is always enough. *Did I make this too personal?*
Anyway, I digress. And I don’t mean that the Grand Final performance wasn’t still the best of the night, I just mean it wasn’t at the same God Tier level as the semifinal one.
Here's why the Italians took advantage of the Dutch stage until its very last millimeter and way more cleverly than any other country.
This is the only act that starts from the back of the stage, where the singer Damiano David waits for us alone.
Even with the rest of the 25 competing countries, this intro makes you forget that you are watching a contest with 26 countries as guests. Unlike anyone else, Italy looks like the host, like this place belongs to them and the frontman waits for you to show you around and possibly drag you to the world of Måneskin. In fact, you almost forget it’s Eurovision - this now looks like a Måneskin concert or, even better, a more private space of theirs with an ominous industrial feel. One of the most impactful things now is the lighting. Take a look at it. Almost all contestants throw all the lights on themselves or on some important prop they have prepared. The Italians are the only ones who chose to just light the stage itself. The simple white lights on the black stage give the impression of depth and it is the only act which shows emphatically the size of the stage. Why this? Well, we already established that in the first seconds the viewers feel they are in a new space belonging exclusively to Måneskin - the lights make us feel that their area is vast and dark and we are about to be drawn to its depths.
Damiano indeed guides us to the front as he sings, where the rest of the band are on the top of a platform. The other members won’t come down and join Damiano until he sings the appropriate verse “Buona sera, signore e signori” (=Good evening, ladies and gentlemen) and accompany it with a theatrical flamboyant bow (that feels very Italian). That’s when, technically introduced to the audience after the official greeting, bassist Victoria de Angelis and guitarist Thomas Raggi come off the platform and join Damiano.
There’s nothing excessive about the visual effects. Only the use of white lights that give the perception of depth and in the background the big shadows of the group’s silhouettes. They are in the front and they cast their shadows in the back; they create to you a feeling of being trapped by them but do you really want to escape?
When the second verse starts, Victoria and Thomas take the paths left and right of the stage and leave Damiano alone. They take even more advantage of the stage and in a typical classic rock band way. These two play with the side cameras but the focus is more on Damiano, whose verse sounds more like a tongue-twister. Since the cameras are rightfully on Damiano, I must now address the elephant in the room. Damiano is particularly attractive. In fact, the whole band is almost mind-bogglingly attractive and they clearly take a lot of care about how exactly they are going to look but Damiano, as the frontman, does especially so. So let’s talk about the outfit. They all have essentially the same outfit, however it is cut differently for each based on the person’s looks and personality. Isn’t it fantastic?
Damiano, who oozes confidence and sex appeal, has accordingly the most “provocative” outfit of the four. His chest and arms are bare so that his many tattoos can be seen. I’ll talk about the other outfits later as they all have their place in the... uh... white lights.
During the second chorus Victoria and Thomas return at the center and after the chorus it is time for the first solo; Victoria’s. The cameras are now on her but the lighting remains modest to accentuate the dark beat of her bass.
Victoria is the only girl of the group and the most dressed of them all - how refreshing! Her outfit is more similar to Thomas but she is buttoned up in the front. How does she wish to underscore her uniqueness as the woman of the band? But of course, with long flamboyant girly sleeves that come to delicious contrast with her aggressive stomping and her wide strides. Both her hairstyle and her outfit is inspired or basically just outright 70′s classic rock look.
It’s time for the bridge of the song right after her solo and Damiano has his attention on her and also draws the viewer’s attention to her some more. This part of the song is lower and softer - in relative terms - that’s why Damiano “chooses” her to sing it to. The lights now turn red, the intensity rises but there’s light flirtatiousness between them, with many smiles to each other and the camera that turns around them as they launch at each other playfully.
Then the song gets darker, more intense, the guitar stronger than the bass and Damiano’s voice turns to a scream. For this part, he turns to his bro, guitarist Thomas and he now draws the attention to him.
He grabs Thomas by the neck in an intense, intimate way (that doesn’t mean sexual, just intimate. His interaction with Victoria wasn’t sexual either). It is clear that through different ways Måneskin want to stress how good and close their relations are and that their singer, who is apparently a show stealer by birth, wants to ensure that they all get equal amount of attention from their audience. I love this.
True enough, nobody is left behind! The last chorus starts with a drums solo and Damiano goes up to the platform to now meet and introduce to us Ethan Torchio. Ethan stands up and his giant shadow is on the now blue background: this is the moment for the - so I hear - somewhat shy drummer to shine in his own aesthetic. The Italians leave none of their assets to fall down and Ethan’s impressive hair rightfully steals the show.
Just like Victoria and Thomas look alike, so do Ethan and Damiano, that’s why their costumes are the most similar. Ethan has a vest that covers him more than Damiano but leaves his arms bare. Because whose else the arms do you need to see if not the drummer’s?
This song has something peculiar because it was not a song originally written for Eurovision; it slows down in the end and does not end on some impressive note from the singer as usual but with the last solo we expect, that of the guitarist, because everything is fair in Måneskin! The focus has to leave Damiano, so now it’s the time for the visual effects to finally catch fire, literally, because nobody is allowed to take their eyes off them! Måneskin use a huge amount of pyro that however feels appropriate for the intense chorus and the ending guitar solo.
Thomas steps up for his solo and I forget we are in 2021. This is the most 70s thing I would ever hope to see.
In a hell of pyro, Thomas looks like he was tranferred right from a 70s rock ‘n roll concert. His outfit would be gladly taken by Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones. The unbuttoned jacket with this boho tie, such a classic 70s fashion touch. His haircut and even his FACE are the epitome of the 70s - what an ending sequence!
But hey we reached the end and this is Eurovision, the song slows down dangerously. Like I said, the Italians forbid us to get distracted. The attention must return to Damiano ASAP. Damiano says one last line and takes the audience with him to the very end with a death drop.
There you have it. Måneskin had me holding my breath for the full three minutes and I did not want to take my eyes off my TV. There are countless shows that are awesome - in this very Eurovision as well - but I was impressed by how they seemed to have found the perfect balance for everything in every single moment. They found the perfect stage concept for the song, they relied on visual effects only when they needed them and they stressed every twist and turn of their sound with a perfectly fitting move or interaction. They also all effortlessly could hold your attention and they made sure that they all would, with members often helping bring out other members. This performance was beautiful and, above all, clever which is why it was undoubtedly the worthiest of the win.

I already talked about this, but until the last I hoped that måneskin would magically appear at the met gala.
and then I saw this post.
Well, you all know what usually happens next, everything is as usual with me
so meet: måneskin if I was a designer and they were invited to the met gala 2022
tap for better quality
thomas and corset! corset and thomas! + top that exposes his chest and chest hair. do you need any comments?
damiano in a jumpsuit that covers only one leg. why not? a corset that goes into a half crinoline skirt. why not? (I couldn't draw it the way it looks in my head, but anyway)
miss victoria de angelis wearing a vest suit. yes mommy. a golden collar covering fragile shoulders and neck. yes mommy. the jacket which echo Ethan's dress and and shows victoria's graceful arms. why not? actually I wanted to create something more masculine for victoria, but a simple colorful suit or tux seemed too boring to me. so I ended up with this option.
Ethan in a sheer dress that exposes almost everything. what could be better? but in general, the collar was originally supposed to be different. similar to 17th century lace collars. but... something didn't go according to plan
and I was too lazy to think about makeup and shoes. so i just left it as it was

ok, here's some more that sound particularly up my street: 23 - crucible, 49 - sensory overload, 34 - i wanna be your slave
Yay thanks for asking!
WIP 23 — crucible
I talked about it here, so I'm going to direct you there because I'm too lazy to copy everything (I just did it for another post but this one has IMAGES too so a link will have to do 🤣)
WIP 49 — sensory overload
This one is a very personal fic I started writing to deal with sensory overload–adjacent moments I have sometimes. It doesn't happen often, but when I started this WIP it was happening almost daily and I was feeling really overwhelmed. I guess I haven't continued/finished this because it hasn't happened again in a while. (Which is good! But I also want to finish this 😂)
Anyway, it's Baz dealing with vampire senses-induced sensory overload, which is something I've always wanted to explore. I have Thoughts about it.
Here's a snippet of Simon being a good boyfriend:
Baz brings his knees up to his chest and wraps his arms around his legs. He looks so lost, and young, and I want to envelop him in me and keep him safe. But I'm not sure—
“Can I—Can I touch you?”
He hesitates, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath. Then he nods, not opening his eyes, and shuffles forwards on the bed so that there's room for me to slot behind him. I do, spreading my legs at his sides and tentatively touching his arm.
“Is this okay?”
He mmms, and my wings unfurl, forming a barrier between us and the rest of the room, not too close to us to make him feel crowded but close enough, I hope, to make him feel safe.
WIP 34 — i wanna be your slave
Damn, this one is also good. I had this idea for EGF, but then life and death happened and I abandoned all my WIPs but one (Cumdrop Buttons, but only because I had already written it in December).
This one is inspired by the Måneskin song, and it's supposed to be pure porn. Lots of BDSM, really kinky sex (all safe and consensual!!).
In a world were no creatures are discriminated, Baz is an immortal vampire who runs a House Of Pleasure (how he calls it). He loves his job, which is very dignified in this universe, but he hasn't felt like having sex with any clients in more than a century. Sex feels old; he's seen it all, so he leaves clients to his colleagues, and it's okay.
Until, one day, a man walks in. He looks young—but so does Baz, after all—but something about him feels timeless. Suddenly, Baz is very interested in having a client again.
(Spoiler: it's Simon!) (More spoilers: he's an immortal dragon who wake up from his mountain for the first time in centuries, and he wants to experience the world again. Baz will gladly help.)
I barely started writing this. I basically have a couple of paragraphs and a long list of kinks.
Snippet!
But no client was him.
He looks pretty young – 25? 30? – but he has an air to himself that Basil learnt to recognise in the newly built Galerie de Glaces at Versailles. He carries himself like his steps have already crossed every inch of the planet countless times, something deep and unfocused in his gaze that only belongs to those who have seen more than it’s possible to see in a lifetime.
And yet there’s more wonder in his boring blue eyes than Basil remembers ever seeing in his own.

For they know exactly what they do
Today there was a pretty long article published in the German newspaper FAZ, written by Julia Schaaf. Since there were quite a few interesting topics raised in it and Måneskin talked about some new aspects (or in more detail), I translated the whole thing (it might also have helped me to procrastinate).
Full interview in English under the cut.
For they know exactly what they do
June 22, 2021
Four young rock musicians from Rome are today's hottest band. Måneskin are enchanting Europe. Why? We met them for an interview.
Every romance needs its founding myth, an anecdote from the beginning, something you can tell later in more difficult times for self-assurance.
In the case of the band Måneskin, who first had Italy and now half of Europe wrapped around their fingers, and who are now trying to conquer the rest of the world with their rock music, there is the story of the shoe box. Rome, around five years ago: Four teenagers who are meeting every day after school in their rehearsal room to make music together, and sometimes they play their songs on the Via del Corso in the city centre in front of a changing audience. One day they want to record their own stuff. They find a studio that they can actually afford and as they go there they bring a shoe box, with the name of the band written on it, 'moonshine' in Danish, the bassist's mother is Danish. In the box: around seven kilogram of coins. The things you get from playing music on the streets. Everyone searching through Instagram for photos from that time can find four hippies with children's faces, three boys in batik, the girl is wearing a straw hat.
As they have to pay [for the recording], frontman Damiano David, 22, says that there was this guy, Angelo, and his bandmate Victoria De Angelis, 21, is interrupting: “No, Andrea, not Angelo”, and all of them have to laugh because a rigid studio manager with the Italian name 'angel' would be even funnier for a founding myth. David continues his story: “The guy was completely dumbfounded. 'We can't do that.' We went: 'Sure we can, that's worth the same even if it's just 20 cent coins, it's still 300 euros.” Thomas Raggi, 20, the guitarist of the band, is gasping for air as he laughs, while drummer Ethan Torchio, 20, is smiling dreamily. David finishes: “And then we snuck off before he was able to count it.” [the German text says 'verdrücken' here which is just a colloquial way of saying 'we left', but it entails some sort of a dramatic exit, so yeah, let your thoughts get creative how they left exactly :D].
Four young musicians on the verge of global fame are sitting on a white interview sofa in Berlin, completely styled, babbling across each other like overeager teenagers.
Ever since the Roman band first won the music festival Sanremo and then also the Eurovision Song Contest, carried by the enthusiasm of European viewers, you could say Måneskin has become a phenomenon. “Rock 'n' Roll never dies!”, Damiano David yelled fueled by the adrenaline of winning, and the insinuation that circulated on social media of the singer snorting during the counting of votes in front of a live camera – including their strict denial followed by a negative drug test result – might have given an additional boost to their public interest, their exploding album, ticket and merch sales, and their outstanding success on Spotify.
“We think it's a shit prejudice against rock music that there always have to be drugs involved. We fully threw ourselves into our participation with the utmost professionalism. We give everything for the music. So of course we don't want people to think that we can only do that because we take drugs.” – Victoria De Angelis
Prior to Eurovision, Måneskin was more of an insider's tip outside of Italy. Handmade rock music, not creating something entirely new but paying homage to the good old times with classic guitar riffs and cracking drum beats, being a lot of fun but also quite fragile and vulnerable at times and, first and foremost, conveying a captivating energy. Finally, on the stage of Rotterdam, live after so many months of isolation and renunciation, this wave of energy spilled straight over into European living rooms. It seemed easy to (mistakenly) interpret the winning song “Zitti e buoni” (Shut up and behave) as a declaration of frustration of our youth in times of a pandemic. In fact, singer Damiano David is singing about the favourite topic of the band: the unrelenting need to, against all odds, be yourself, despite or perhaps because you are different. The message fits their provocative sex appeal, which the band uses to demonstrate their independence of gender norms at any given time. But the core essence of rock music has always been the promise of unlimited freedom.
Thus at the first moment, the meeting with Måneskin is kind of startling. It's Wednesday, we are in the top floor of the new Sony head quarters in Berlin. The four Italians have just started their two-week long promotion tour through Europe. In the afternoon there will be a live concert in a queer club [the SchwuZ, but that's not mentioned here] in Neukölln, which will be streamed via TikTok. Around one million viewers will watch the show, some of them even from Brazil, so people at Sony are pretty excited [for Måneskin to come here]. But at first, these stunningly gorgeous creatures [yes, that's the exact wording :D] are standing surrounded by an entourage of people – their management, PR team, a stylist, a photographer, people who can hold a smartphone or a cigarette if needed [this paragraph is worded a little weirdly, especially taking into account that basically their whole team / 'entourage' is just friends of them, but it seems like the journalist didn't know that or maybe they just wanted to describe their first impression]. They seem like fictional / artificial characters out of a Hollywood movie. Transparent frill blouses with blazers and flared leather trousers, even the platform boots, everything brand-new, the makeup makes their faces look like a glossy magazine cover even in person. The smokey eyes of De Angelis and Raggi make them look smug and bored. Later, on the pictures it will probably look cool.
So of course your first impression might be: This band is under contract to industry giant Sony ever since their success on an Italian casting show [X Factor] in Winter 2017. The music industry must have its hand in the game when a band is photographed half-naked by Oliviero Toscani and styled by Etro. Also, one does not simply rent a villa with a pool in Rome to produce new music there, isolated from the rest of the world. And who else went to London for two whole months, shortly before the winter lockdown, just for inspiration? After the TikTok concert in Berlin – De Angelis and David are now wearing fishnet shirts that sparkle with every move, their bare nipples covered with an X of black tape – the band is posing with a few influencers. In the world of social media you would call that 'producing content'. But what does that mean for a band who are preaching their hosanna of authenticity? How authentic is Måneskin? And is their pointedly casual approach to sexuality and gender cliches in today's pop-cultural spirit more than a marketing strategy?
We're in the interview, the recording device is running for not even five minutes, when Victoria De Angelis says: “Actually, we just try to be ourselves and do what we really want to do.” And really: The more you listen to those four how they speak about the early days of the band in their slurred Roman dialect, about the shoe box and their own experiences with being different, but most importantly about their shared obsession [with music], the more you realise that [De Angelis] is very serious. Ethan Torchio, who got his first drum kit at the age of six or seven from his father because he was beating everything he could reach, says: “For me, music is like food. I cannot live without it.” The bassist next to him laughs at his pathos. Singer Damiano David applauds the otherwise more reserved friend for his truthfulness [it says 'klarer Punkt', meaning 'for the point he makes', but it makes it seem like Damiano is agreeing with Ethan here, although it doesn't indicate whether he agrees that yes, music is everything for Ethan or that he understands and feels the same].
De Angelis and guitarist Raggi already knew each other from middle school and they were the ones who tried to form a band at the age of only 13, a band that actually took music seriously.
De Angelis: “It's just difficult at that age to find other people who really put everything into music and who truly commit themselves and are willing to invest a lot of their time.”
Raggi: “We set strict rules and scheduled fixed times for the rehearsals, for every day.”
David: “Fever, stomach ache, there was no excuse. Even if you were feeling sick in the rehearsal room. At least you were in the rehearsal room.”
The way the four of them talk across each other, completing each other's sentences, taking turns in talking and sometimes joking about each other, seems intimate and playful. Singer David remembers how at first bassist [De Angelis] was merciless towards him when it came to her first metal band project, as she told him that he wasn't committed enough [to the music]: “Back then I was still playing Basketball. I was one of the people that Vic absolutely didn't want [in her band].” Drummer Torchio was later discovered through Facebook, even though there had already been a drummer, a close friend, but he was not good enough. It seems as if even back then music was everything for them. Even if it meant that only Raggi managed to graduate.
And why rock, why rock music of all things? Because it's great, the four of them say in unison. David adds: “Actually, it's a genre that allows you to do everything you want to do.”
When they played on the street, they were laughed at by their classmates. But not only there. De Angelis explains that she never wanted to be a typical girl: “I was always deterred by those stupid boxes that people put you in, and that are just restricting and constraining you, because something is only regarded as male or female. I always rejected that. Instead, I just wanted to do the things I enjoyed doing, I went skating and played football.” Torchio says: “Friends who are not friends anymore were already telling me at the age of ten that those“ – he grabs his long, silky black hair – “were wrong. Because I'm a boy and boys are meant to have short hair, long hair is only for girls. I was bullied a lot for that.”
“Compared to the past, people in our age became much more open-minded. It gets better.” – Thomas Raggi
Frontman David on the other hand, for whom eye shadow, jingling earrings and nail polish as well as his bare torso with the tattoos have become trademarks by now, says: “I was actually more of the average boy.” De Angelis convinced him to try out some eyeliner, which he describes as a spiritual awakening: “I liked myself much more [with makeup]. I saw myself more as myself. As if it had been a suppressed desire of mine.” On a trip to Copenhagen with the others, when he realised that it really didn't matter what people were thinking about him, he got his first fake fur [coat? the article doesn't specify that] in a second-hand shop and let his clothing style be guided by his own love to experiment: “I realised that my whole life I was just going at half speed.” When it comes to diversity all four of them are becoming almost missionary.
At the same time, their success is not only opening doors for them. Back home in Rome they are barely able to go out on the street due to all the paparazzi. “[You need a] hoodie and huge sunglasses”, David says, “the mask is quite helpful, too.” And still, none of them is complaining, and Torchio explains why: “Even if those experiences right now may have sides that are not so pleasant, we still know that for us a dream is coming true. We experience something that we always had in our minds, so we are willing to face every consequence that this entails.”
So is the band facing difficult times, is Måneskin going to change with all the success? Again, all of them answer at the same time.
David: “I'm not worried about that.”
Raggi: “No way!”
De Angelis: “On the contrary. Everything that happened to us happened because we are who we are, so we want to continue the exact same way and stay ourselves.”
Just a few hours later, they are at the stage in Neukölln, bouncing around like pinballs, hammering at their instruments, flirting with each other. “We are out of our minds, but different from the others”, David sings their winning hymn against conformism, and: “The people talk, unfortunately they talk.” Here on stage, the four paradise birds [a German word describing someone with a flamboyant personality] with their half-nude-glittering outfits are radiating an incredible energy with the utmost sincerity, and you begin to wish there was a live audience instead of the TikTok cameras, absorbing and spreading this energy. Måneskin. A cry for a life after the pandemic, a cry for freedom and a better world.
“We do what we wished for all our lives.” – Ethan Torchio

I hope you enjoy the little beach vibes and locked in car scenrio 😂
request // yes, it was through messages by @tabi-toast so i'm putting it here
"I’d like to request some friends to lovers with Vic where the boys notice that they like each other and try to push them towards each other? Maybe some angst but mostly lots of fluff hehehe"
summary // Victoria and reader have been friends for a while, both harboring unspoken feelings. While the two are oblivious beyond their minds the boys of the band have figured out all the glances and sublte touches the two share. Well, all they need is a little push to see the truth.
It was simply agonizing. The way the two looked at each other lovingly, staring with adoration every time they were sure they would not get caught, the way they spoke of each other, constantly using the fondest of words… They were both suffering from the unspoken feelings, the constant emotion of (non existent, really) rejection making the bad days harder and the good days bad, taking away from the most important moments they shared. The friends they shared were surely close to taking off, not wanting to see the constant pinning and insecurities that come with it.
The pair tended to be so oblivious to the obvious. Writing off indications of romantic feelings as plain signs of the comfort they had with each other. The hugs, the cuddles, the hair petting, all the pet names, the spontaneous 1 am singing competitions in the car while driving to find some food. They wrote it off as plain and simple platonic affection.
But, after, as the times passed by and the two would not seem to understand the feelings they shared, they would each go to a different member, complaining and even crying about the lack of reciprocation.
“How can you know that, Y/N? You haven’t even told her!”
“Well, I know her! She doesn’t want me Thomas!”
A similar scenarios would apply to Victoria sharing her feelings. They were both so blinded by fear of losing each other that they were blind to the truth. But everyone with eyes was not. Everyone, even people that had never met them before, could see that they were dying to be together, sometimes even assuming that they are… But that only ever resulted in awkward denying and later crying over the non existent rejection.
Currently they were laying on a towel at the beach, cuddled up together while relaxing with the last sun rays of the day and the soft sound of waves. The entire group had decided that a beach day was long overdue, the pool just simply not satisfactory enough. It was not the same to be by the sea, with the waves and the beautiful view, and being by a pool with the superficial lights and all (not that they could really complain).
“So, you mean to tell me that it actually happened?!” Yelled Y/N, laughing at yet another story Victoria shared with them.
“It did! I swear!” Victoria laughed back, caressing Y/N’s back softly as they both laughed.
“Well you need to take me with you next time you visit that place again. Who knows? Maybe another incident like that will happen.”
“I surely will,” she said, leaving a soft kiss on their heads.
“Are you feeling tired, amore?”
“Maybe a little… I had a long day…”
“You can take a nap on me if you need to. I’ll wake you up before Thomas and Damiano go to get us food.”
“I suppose I could,” they responded and settled in for a small nap.
The rest of Måneskin simply stared at the pair while discussing how exactly they were not one. It seemed so obvious to them how they had strong feelings, undeniable ones at that, and they could not stand and watch. Something had to happen.
So they came up with a devious plan. It would piss off Victoria a bit but it would bring the results they needed. Damiano walked to the car they came in, thanking technology with all of his might, in his head, remembering how his car has child-proofing mechanisms at the doors so they can only open from the outside. Thus the plan was in action.
After coming back he simply settled down, going back to doing his own thing - whatever he was doing before and waiting until it was time to move forward with it.
“Agh, I’m starving! When are you guys going for the food?”
“Me too.” Thomas stated before settling back in his chair for a moment.
“Hey, Vic!” He almost yelled, the woman flinching and checking to see if he woke Y/N up.
“What is it Thomas?” her voice was sharp, body quickly moving to walk up to him, making sure to not disturb her crushe’s nap.
“Can you and Y/N go for the food? Honestly I am bored, Damiano said he’s not coming and Ethan is too preoccupied right now.” He pouted and everything, giving the older girl the softest look he could possibly manage, while pointing at Ethan having a phone call.
“Couldn’t you have thought of that before? Seriously, Thomas, right now? They are sleeping.”
“Oh, come on Vic, please! I’ll owe you!”
“Agh, agh, fine, let me wake them,” she paused,”you’re lucky I’m hungry or I would let all of you starve,” she mumbled, annoyed by the boys’ laziness, before going over to the sleeping figure on the towel.
“Hey, amore… come on, sweets, wake up. Hey. Hey,” she repeated softly, a sweet smile on her face as their eyes opened slowly.
“Vic? Oh, are the guys going for the food?”
“Not quite. The guys are being annoying and refuse to go. So, if you want to eat we have to go.”
“Oh, alright then. Give me a moment to wake up,” they said and Victoria smoothed down their sea-salt stained t-shirt.
“Ethan, where are the keys?”
“On the engine, cucciola.”
“Ok, grazie.”
With that the two clueless friends sat in the car, Victoria realizing the keys were missing a little too late.
“Agh, cazzo, Ethan! They are not her- The door isn’t opening. Why is the door not opening?”
“Mine isn’t either.”
“Ethan!” Her voice could be heard crystal clear, even with the windows separating her from the outside.
“What is it, Victoria?” He asked, a smug smile on his face as he stood outside the car window.
“What did you do?”
“Well,” spoke Damiano, “you two clueless, little shits have gotten annoying. So if you are not going to do it, we will.” He stated and Victoria’s eyes almost went out of her head, catching onto what her friend was saying.
“Y/N, Victoria has feelings for you. Victoria, Y/N has feelings for you. Now talk!”
If only glare’s could kill, Ethan would be having a very painful death as Vic kept mumbling how she’ll kill him. Y/N, on the other hand, simply stared at Victoria in adoration.
“Do you have feelings for me?”
“Look Y/N, I-”
“Answer my question Victoria! Do you have feelings for me?”
“Yes,” she replied, looking down as if she was ashamed.
“That’s not how I wanted you to find out. I wasn’t really planning on telling you cause I know that Ethan is lying but-”
“Victoria! Take a breath between sentences! What are you talking about? Ethan is not lying, you know?”
“I know, Y/N, you don’t have to sugarco- Wait, what?”
“He isn’t lying, Victoria. I really like you.” “You do?”
“Mhm, I do. Now, will you give me a kiss or are you waiting for Ethan to smash our heads together,” they joked, easing up the tension Victoria was feeling and pushing their lips to hers.
It was not anything special, just a simple, soft, kiss. What made it special was that it was to each other. They shared a kiss together, not someone else, not a stranger, not someone they had no feelings for, but someone they were yearning for, for a very long time now.

hello hello hello i am back for a bit and since i've missed eurovision and the mandatory madness posting that goes with it, i was wondering if you'd mind giving me a quick rundown? Apparently mika was there??? The pu*sy salad song didn't make it??? idk that's the only two things I did hear abt it (btw this is your excuse to rant abt it if you want to <3 don't feel pressured tho ! )💖
oh my gosh peng. that was A Night. ill link some stuff in case you or anyone else wants to know what im talking about
alright alright alright. so first off pussy salad song didnt make it, which was a travesty truly and i dont think i will ever recover. i honestly dont understand how that happened. im devastated
mika was hosting! what a legend that guy is. he performed during voting time, and when he performed in the second semi final it was awful. they let him sing some sting cover and it was boring af and we were all sad bc that's mika let him sing some mika songs! but then last night he did. oh peng, he did.
måneskin performed with supermodel, which i like but i dont love the idea of them working with max martin tbh. i dont want them to lose their soul yk? anyway they were amazing and looked amazing as usual, but damiano was injured and for some reason they kept interviewing him without giving him his crutches which was painful to watch. we did get this picture out of it tho.
the host asked damiano to give advice to this year's competitors, and he said "have fun and dont get too close to tables"
sweden sent one of the sexiest people ive laid my eyes on
(unpopular opinion here) i actually liked finland's entry a lot. but maybe it's also bc their guitarist was. very hot
there were 3 Good entries - ukraine, moldova and serbia
moldova's song was about trains? apparently. i thought it was one of the best moments of the night
serbia. i want to give everything i own to that woman. neta and i were doing the hand dance the whole night
the jury were shit, as usual. the uk were in the lead up until the audience votes were revealed. which was Hilarious
germany received 0 points from the jury and 6 points from the audience. as they should
courtney act announced the australian jury votes!!!! she was marvelous
mika was so sweet seriously
ukraine won, rightfully so.
ukrainian flute guy im naming my firstborn after you

but what are your eurovision favorites, wanna share?
Oooooh sure, let me see. I took notes on every song when I listened to it the first time. I haven't watched any of the rehearsals or all live videos, though. This is just based on whatever first impression I had. They're in no particular order, just the way they come up first in my notes:
The Netherlands: De Diepte - S10
This is actually one of the only quieter songs I like this year. Objectively, I think it's a really good song. She's got a great voice and the song is pretty deep and heavy, but it's got enough catchy elements that it's not depressing or forgettable. It also didn't feel physically painful to get through the whole song like some other songs did (looking at you, Malta)
Albania: Sekret - Ronela Hajati
I love the choir, I love the drums, I love the traditional bits, I love the dance choreo. Great song. Only criticism is that it almost tries too hard. Doesn't matter that much to me, though. I'm still super enjoying it. It also fooled me into thinking it would be a boring ballad for the first few seconds, so the pleasant surprise of it not being one probably boosted it up into my favorites
Moldova: Trenulețul - Zdob și Zdub & Advahov Brothers
It's such a cheesy, fun song and I really want to dance to it and I know it'll be so much fun to watch live. I just want to have fun at Eurovision and Moldova is delivering.
Norway: Give that Wolf a Banana - Subwoolfer
Similarly to Moldova, Norway is delivering on everything I want to see in a good Eurovision year. I don't watch Eurovision for the most artistic and serious songs. I watch Eurovision for the fun, for the party, for the memes. Norway is giving me all of that and I looove them
Ukraine: Stefania - Kalush Orchestra
This is a work of art. I love the traditional singing mixed with the rap parts and they'll deserve all the points they will get because Ukraine actually bothered to choose a unique and interesting song. If anyone talks about Ukraine just getting points because of the war, I'll come for them. This is beautiful and it's much better than what many other countries sent
San Marino: Stripper - Achille Lauro
I listened to that one really late for some reason. Just a few days ago actually. But I've been listening to it on loop since then. And I really love it. Because it's like my genre. It's got everything I liked in Måneskin while still feeling like it's own thing
Honorable mentions that I don't really like that much but apparently they scored really high in my notes ranking for some reason beyond my understanding:
Estonia: Hope - Stefan
This is country, so I'm ehhhhh on it. But I listened to this on loop for some days in March? April? And it got stuck on me then and now I'm actually enjoying it somewhat
Finland: Jezebel - The Rasmus
I don't even think it's that good. It's just nostalgia feelings, I guess. Basically, it appealed to my inner teenager who thought listening to alternative rock was the best form of rebellion against my boring Christian cult upbringing
Italy: Brividi - Mahmood & Blanco
I do not like this song because it's so not my genre, but I can acknowledge it's good in its own way (and similar to the Netherlands, not painful to sit through). So I hope they do well
#answering asks#eurovision 2022#there's so many songs this year that I dislike or am feeling really meh about

On music
Music is one of my greatest passions alongside with movies. I don't talk often about it here but this may change, I hope my followers don't mind. Anyway, I want to share some thoughts about what we're all talking about since last week.
Måneskins of course, who are this close to becoming a global phenomenon and we are all happy (and horny) for them, but I don't know if the younger people around here can truly realize the impact this may have on the music scene. Or why it's so important that they exist.
So
-Imagine growing up in a context that revered the gods of rock, and since I'm Italian, a certain kind of Italian songwriters. Imagine that your very first musical memories have Bowie in them, together with Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Who etc. Imagine to be woken up on sunday mornings by De Andrè's poetry, or by Morricone's notes.
-Then imagine being a teenager disgustingly spoiled by a pop of the highest quality and creativity, like Michael Jackson and Madonna, going to school when one day a Queen's album came out, the next day a REM's one, then the Smashing Pumpkins came, and U2 gave life to the greatest rock and roll show on earth. In the meantime, as if nothing, Nirvana brought us grunge. The list was long enough that we literally didn't have enough money to buy it all.
-Finally, imagine entering a dark tunnel of 15/20 years, where twerking passes for transgression, autotune for talent. Where pop is an empy shell of itself, rock is agonizing (with a few exceptions) and the only way to avoid trappers is to turn everything off. For me, it all started with the first boy bands, but I'll maybe dwell on this another time. The point is, we have been forced to live on the legacy of a past that was glorious, but still, well, in the past. We had a few big names who have fortunately kept making their, and our, music, but how long since we last had new energies?
Then out of the blue, or maybe not, depending on where you are, 4 perfect strangers arrived, and damn, they know how to write, and they know how to sing, and they know how to perform. And yes, they're not that original, glam rock existed way before the Måneskins were born, and our grandmas had to deal with their own horny jails even before that. It's not like Robert Plant didn't mimic an orgasm invoking his very male guitarist name on stage after all. So what? Let Måneskin have their role models like any young people, and artis of any age, do.
The point is, we rock fans have some hope now that their success will work as a long overdue wake-up call for all the labels, the radios and TVs. Maybe now discographics will know that they need to stop pursuing commercial success at all costs, that they have to give people a quality product, not one that's easy to consume and easier to forget. They need to be reminded that what it takes to make music is talent, not a laptop. Be it movies or music, producers like to play it safe, they don't want to invest, then they cry over the stats and complain that it's YouTube's fault if they don't sell shit. They should know now that if people don't buy a certain kind of music it's because it's literally not on the market. Or at least it's hard to find. Hopefully, they'll also not try to turn the Måneskin into another boring ass pop group or else many of us may choose violence.
Well, let's hope that this Renaissance of rock will be lasting and authentic, because we, of the old guard (!) have been spoiled and we want more, while the new generations often don't even know what they've been missing, which is so so unfair!

She couldn't say forgiveness, not to Liir. She started to say "a soldier," to make fun of his mooning affections over the guys in uniform. But realizing even as she said it that he would be hurt, she caught herself halfway, and in the end what came out of her mouth surprised them both.

my eurovision top 39 songs (finally)
anyway i finally got my top 39 completed. under a read more because it can get kinda long with the commentary i added klfdja;sflk (and by that i mean VERY long, maybe a wall of text if i have a lot to say about the song.)
none of this takes rehearsals into account.
basically, 39-37 i don't like, 36-35 are meh, 34-25 are decent, 24-18 are good, 17-12 i enjoy listening to a lot, 11-4 i love, and I would pay for votes for top 3 if i could.
39. Azerbaijan - Efendi - Mata Hari - Honestly, I kinda want to like this song. The instrumentation is nice, especially with the Azeri instruments. Efendi's vocals are ok during the verses. However, her vocals during the MA-MA-MA-MATA HARI part makes this song utterly unlistenable for me. It is just so distracting and ear-grating. Not great for my sensitive ears. And that is without taking anything else into account.
38. Estonia - Uku Suviste - The Lucky One - For some reason reminds me of a boring modern country song. Bland af. At least the melody of the chorus is nice.
37. Cyprus - Elena Tsagrinou - El Diablo - Discount Lady Gaga at the best points of this song. Feels like three songs at once. Also, the lyrics seem like they just went all "What Spanish-sounding words sound spicy? Taco? Tamale? Mamacita?" As a Spanish speaker and as someone of Mexican descent who enjoys those foods, this annoys the living shit out of me. At least I can make El Diablo/Fallen Angel memes out of this. (Honestly, I don't mind the gratuitous Spanish with the words El Diablo.) Also, this song got real old real quick.
36. Slovenia - Ana Soklič - Amen - The gospel vibe is nice, but there is just too much Christianity in it for me to enjoy this song. Sorry, Ana.
35. Moldova - Natalia Gordienko - Sugar - Sounds like a sugary version of Siren Song by MARUV. Kinda boring, but enjoyable in the right circumstances.
34. Georgia - Tornike Kipiani - You - Good to listen to when mind feels blank. At first I kinda liked this song, but nowadays this song has lost its charm. This won't sound out of place alongside boring 70s slow classic rock songs.
33. Austria - Vincent Bueno - Amen - Not something I would listen to regularly, but still nice. For me, easily the biggest downgrade from 2020.
32. Greece - Stefania - Last Dance - Pleasant to listen to, not much else.
31. Portugal - The Black Mamba - Love Is On My Side - Good song, but not my cup of tea. Unfortunately, some great songs have to be near the bottom of my ranking.
30. Germany - Jendrik - I Don't Feel Hate - A fun song to listen to. The novelty wears off after a while. The feel good vibes and ukulele are nice.
29. Israel - Eden Alene - Set Me Free - the song release version was bland and boring, but the revamp. Now THAT is good stuff. The song doesn't seem so empty anymore. I miss the key change from the original, though.
28. Spain - Blas Cantó - Voy A Quedarme - A very emotional and beautiful song from Spain. Again, not usually my cup of tea. However, the melody somehow gives me a nostalgic vibe.
27. North Macedonia - Vasil - Here I Stand - DAMN Vasil has a lovely voice. Nice that he's showing it off here. Too slow of a song for me to enjoy regularly, though.
26. Albania - Anxhela Peristeri - Karma - I don't have much to say other than this song is nice.
25. Bulgaria - VICTORIA - Growing Up Is Getting Old - Pleasant to listen to, but depending on my mood I think this is a beautiful song but not my cup of tea or a complete snoozefest.
24. Serbia - Hurricane - Loco Loco - Fun song, but it feels like something is lacking, and I can't quite put my finger on it.
23. San Marino - Senhit - Adrenalina - Once the initial hype from Flo Rida being on the song died down, this became another typical Eurovision bop.
22. Sweden - Tusse - Voices - At first I thought the song was completely unremarkable and couldn't understand how this won Melodifestivalen. Nowadays it's a nice song to chill to. I gotta respect a perfect televote score from the national final.
21. Ireland - Lesley Roy - MAPS - nice.
20. Croatia - Albina - Tick Tock - Grew on me slightly. Shoutout for including a verse in Croatian.
19. Switzerland - Gjon's Tears - Tout l'Univers - Another grower for me. Doesn't hit as hard as his song from last year, but I dig it.
18. France - Barbara Pravi - Voilà - Lovely chanson right here. I wish it didn't take forever to pick up, though. I was about to completely give up on this song in the middle of my first listen. I'm glad I didn't.
17. Belgium - Hooverphonic - The Wrong Place - Classy. Not much else to say.
16. Ukraine - Go-A - Shum - I'd definitely go rave to this song. I kept finding this song hard to rank due to the white voice. I couldn't decide if I absolutely adored it or if I found it grating. Maybe I just wasn't feeling well when I first thought about it.
15. Lithuania - The Roop - Discoteque - Lots of fun, doesn't have the charm that On Fire had last year. I would dance to this song.
14. Poland - RAFAŁ - The Ride - I actually kinda like this song???? Even with Rafal's vocals??? I know he has political controversies, but I can't help but think this song is nice. A better, less controversial singer would benefit this song, though. I'm not counting the revamp just yet since it was released too recently.
13. Latvia - Samanta Tīna - The Moon Is Rising - This song gives me nostalgic mid to late 2000s hip hop vibes. The guitars in this song are lovely.
12. Romania - ROXEN - Amnesia - Definitely something that can put me in a trance if I'm in the right mood.
11. Czechia - Benny Cristo - omaga - Nice, catchy, I would dance to this.
10. Malta - Destiny - Je Me Casse - Damn, Destiny has a lovely voice! And the song itself is wonderful. I'm not a fan of the amount of Swedish talent being used instead of Maltese talent, but I really do enjoy listening to this.
9. Denmark - Fyr og Flamme - Øve Os På Hinanden - another really fun song! This really grew on me. Nowadays if I want to listen to a Eurovision song, this is one of the first songs I think of.
8. The Netherlands - Jeangu Macrooy - Birth of a New Age - I can vibe with this. You can hear the passion in this song. I wish I could let my body do the talking right now, but y'all can't see that with just a tumblr text post.
7. Russia - Manizha - Russian Woman - I was NOT expecting this to come out of Russia when it won the national final. I wasn't expecting to like this either. The message is great, the instrumental is great, everything about this is brilliant.
6. United Kingdom - James Newman - Embers - A funky song. I LOVE James's voice. Massive upgrade from last year in my opinion. I'm a sucker for brass in an upbeat song. Unfortunately, I have had the staging kinda spoiled and I am VERY skeptical about this coming out of bottom five. I'm done with the BBC.
5. Australia - Montaigne - Technicolour - There is a Lot happening in this song and I am all in for it. I'm kinda terrible at parsing lyrics, but it's a non-issue when I can follow Montaigne's voice and forget about the lyrics. Ironically enough, it's Montaigne's voice that also worries me this Eurovision season - mostly whether she was able to pull off her live on tape performance off.
4. Iceland - Daði og Gagnamagnið - 10 Years - I didn't think Daði could pull it off against this year, but he did it. I like this just a little more than Think About Things, which was my favorite song last year. I'm still a little gutted that this pandemic robbed him of a probable victory, but I've made peace with it. I still need to learn the dance moves, though.
3. Italy - Måneskin - Zitti E Buoni - FUCK YEAH A KICKASS ROCK SONG IN EUROVISION! This song gave me massive rock en español vibes on my fist listen, and honestly this is something I would bang my head to if I had the same body I did when I was 15.
2. Norway - TIX - Fallen Angel - I was not expecting to like this song much, let alone becoming THIS obsessed with TIX. In fact, he wasn't even on my radar for winning MGP. I listened to Ut Av Mørket for the first time and thought something like 'this is boring af, but at least it's in Norwegian'. And then he changed it to English, which I wasn't a fan of at first. And then one day the lyrics clicked - especially with my own struggles with mental illness. To this day this is one of only two Eurovision songs to actually make me cry. Even now he still isn't my MGP winner (that honor goes to JORN), but he has definitely won my heart.
1. Finland - Blind Channel - Dark Side - To say that this song kicks ass would be an understatement for me. This song has just the right mix of rock, pop, and even metal. Ever since I found out that this song would be in the national final, I knew that it would be my favorite this whole Eurovision season regardless of who won UMK. Yes, my jaw dropped when I saw the lead Blind Channel had in UMK. I literally cancelled my plans to watch the MGP final live because of these guys. I am not disappointed. Even Måneskin couldn't bring these guys down in my ranking. And while the lyrics might be a bit iffy, they did get me through rough times. I hope these guys are able to bring rock music back like they want to. But for now, I will give them my (useless tbh) douze points.
#eurovision#esc#this post took me two days#and even longer to actually rank everything#mostly because half the time i couldn't decide which song i liked more#so something gerbear's sorter couldn't help with#i'm tired rn#of course my top 3 is predictable

My Eurovision Final 2021 List
Pretty much definitive. Unless someone really fucks up their performance in the final - or gets way better. (Right, Moldova?)
26. Belgium
Not to be that person, but Albina was robbed. I'm sorry, but I just can't like this song. It feels weirdly out of place, in a way other slow songs don't. There's nothing happening. I dislike the chorus. I just...bleh. Sorry.
25. The Netherlands
This is one of those songs that could climb up depending on the live performance. In the studio version, the background music and the beat are too loud, if you ask me, and are extremely distracting. It just hurts my ears. (The part before the last chorus is amazing though.) If they "fix" this in the finale, I'll be on board and probably but it somewhere around P17.
24. Bulgaria
I don't like slow songs, you know. I'm not sorry. I just don't like this, but I don't mind listening to it (at least).
23. Spain
I don't even like this song very much, but his backstory just makes me...so sad. His grandma, who introduced him to Eurovision, died of Covid. I just want Blas to do well. At least not get last. :(
22. United Kingdom
I'm pretty confident they won't come last! It's fine. It's a pop song. The staging seems to be boring. I don't know. Next!
21. Albania
She's good. I don't like anything about the song that isn't the first fifteen seconds. Huh. (She also starts second...I feel bad for her.)
20. Norway
I get his story, I understand what his staging and the song means, but urgh, I just don't like listening to it. This is just not my kind of music AT ALL. Sorry TIX. ILY.
19. Greece
Will the green screen be keyed out better this time? Come in and find out! It's fun, but I won't want to listen to it more than once or twice. Won't make it to my Spotify Playlist, but is completely fine otherwise...you can also see her going through the steps in her mind while dancing which makes it look very stiff.
18. Sweden
It's Sweden. It's fine. Tusse is cool. Shrug.
17. . Azerbaijan
It's...too perfect. The performance, everything. It feels slightly stiff at times. Better performed than Greece, and I like the song more in general, but not a lot.
16. Moldova
It used to be so much higher but! that! performance! what was that! i also never want to see kirkirov again thanks
15.Israel
Purely juding the song here, obviously. It has grown on me in the Semi and now I quite like it. I don't have anything else to say about it, though. The whistle notes are cool as hell.
14. Germany
I can't vote for Jendrik, but I will cheer for Jendrik. It's fun, it's something else, finally Germany is letting loose a bit. I want to fight all the bitter Germans on TikTok who do nothing but complain about how we could send "something like this", asks themselves "what even is this" and yell "and we'll get zero points again!". Meet me at the Aldi parking lot tomorrow. Jendrik might not feel hate, but I certainly do.
13. Finland
Let's rock! This is not really my kind of music (I'm more the Rammstein kind of person), but it's cool as hell and I think it will do well. My only fear is that the voters that do like harder music will vote for Finland instead of Italy (because it's more extreme) and therefore Italy will loose votes. (I know they are two very different kinds of music, but if you don't like Europop...)
12. Cyprus
This has grown on me, I have to admit. Is it my favourite? No. Will I still enjoy it opening the show? Yeah, absolutely.
11. Serbia
Yeah, let's party! I just vibe with this, no other reason.
10. Portugal
Wild Card Time! You cannot tell me the staging isn't amazingly well thought out. Plus, the song is actually kind of nice, if you hear it a few times. Of course, the casual watcher will only hear it once, but it's still good.
09. France
Surpirse! As much as I talk "negatively" about France, I actually really enjoy the song. I just think there's (at least) eight songs that deserve to win more. It's good though.
08. Iceland
I was not terribly fond of this song at first, but the live performance made me really appreciate it. I feel bad for them for not being able to be in the arena, so maybe that plays into my opinion too.
07. Malta
I like Malta, it's fun and upbeat. The outfit is still a bit meh, but other than that - FUN.
06. Russia
MANIZHA I LOVE YOU YOU ARE SO COOL. Oh yeah, and the song is very different and I really like it.
05. San Marino
LET'S GO, VALENTINA'S BACKYARD 2022. Listen, San Marino is pure fun, pure party, they have Flo Rida AND they close the show. What more can you want?
04. Lithuania
I don't feel like I need to explain this one.
03. Switzerland
Fight me, I like the staging. It's very modern and he still hits all his notes while doing his little dance. Plus, Gjon just seems like a super cool dude. And the song still hits hard. (feeling wise)
02. Ukraine
The forest rave has arrived and demands to be heard. You either love or hate Ukraine, and I love it. (And if you hate it, I'm very sorry, but you're just wrong.)
01. Italy
I believe in Måneskin Supremacy and you should too. Even though they're my favourites, I would not terribly mind them NOT winning, unless France wins instead of them. It's complicated. I love them, but I also love every song in my Top 5 and it's hard to actually rank them.
