very important: today my dad was like "you know, I follow this account called columboscreens on Twitter" and I said "ONG I FOLLOW THEM ON TUMBLR!!!" and we both got super excited about it so :-) yeah
AHH this is so sweet i love this so much
the cross-generational appeal of columbo wins again. doesn't matter if you're a grandpa or in high school. the little man is coming for you either way

For the ask, 13, 14 and 26 please :)
13. "what's an album cover that you would frame and put up in your house?"
all of them. no, there are probably some out there i wouldn't want, actually. i want all of russ ballard's albums on my wall. i want the book of love one and the seer one both blown up bigger than the rest. and i want the other pictures from the seer photoshoot on the wall too because i love everything. i would want one wall dedicated to each of my favorite bands, hopefully with enough space for each of their albums, or my favorite ones at least.
band posters everywhere. i want instruments on my walls. i want lyrics on my walls. in between the russ album covers, i would have his lyrics littered all over the place, on the ceilings too. with a bunch of hearts. because i love him and i love that he is full of love.
14. do you have any music related home decoration?
in my bedroom, i have a very cheap violin that i have leaning on top of my dresser against the wall, in the case. i'm not super into learning that and i don't think i even can anyway because the tuner things don't stay when you tighten them or anything. but anyway, i like having it just to look at it. my boyfriend has some kiss posters, but they're not up on the walls or anything. i have an empty iron maiden cd case of the number of the beast that i always have leaning against the side of my computer on my desk(the cd was missing but i wanted the case anyway with the little booklet in it). besides that, i don't think i have anything else. i want more things though.
26. is there/what is a song that you always associate with a movie or tv show?
i don't really watch movies or tv shows often, so not really. besides maybe like, a theme song of one. like SOMETIMES YOU WANNA GO WHERE EVERYBODY KNOWS YOUR NAAAAAME AND THEY'RE ALWAYS GLAD YOU CAAAAAMMME. the cheers theme song. i love that one. OH AND 'this old man' always reminds me of columbo because he always whistled it in the show. i used to love watching columbo years ago.

oh hey is it time to go watch old media until the writer's strike is over
welp here's my list, i highly recommend adding onto it or making your own
sit-coms
Better Off Ted (office comedy about a pretty decent guy who manages the R&D department of your standard big capitalist (evil) company. absurd, sincere, and blessedly not nihilistic.)
Golden Girls (four older women living together. openly touched upon topics like gay people are human beings actually and so are people without houses. and this was in the 80s.)
Murphy Brown (Reporter/news presenter workplace comedy. i like eldin)
WKRP (set in a radio station, this one is a pain to find unedited anywhere because of music licensing nonsense)
Designing Women (i haven't actually watched much of this yet but i heard it's pretty good so i'm listing it here in hopes i'll remember to check it out)
british panel / comedy shows (ok so they're like game shows, except the prizes range from useless to nonexistent, all the contestants are comedians, and nobody really cares that much who wins. ,fair warning though, these are british. so you're just gonna get a certain amount of jokes that are like "yup an old cishet white dude sure did write that")
Would I Lie to You (contestants make ridiculous claims and the opposing team has to guess if it's real or not)
8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown (not "8 out of 10 Cats". not "Countdown". specifically "8 out of 10 cats does countdown". yes this is important)
Taskmaster (five contestants perform a series of increasingly silly tasks to try to score points)
Big Fat Quiz of the Year / Decade (a series of long quiz specials where comedians often fail, intentionally or otherwise, to answer questions)
crime/detective/spy shows (cw copaganda. bc that's the entire genre)
Columbo (did you know it's ALL on the internet archive? for FREE?)
Simon and Simon (private investigators who are also brothers, a bit more on the fun side. pretty good for the 80s, but be warned you're still gonna get some dopey tropes like ableism in certain episodes.)
Rockford Files (ex-convict PI. doesn't like guns, friends with his dad. cynical but can't help helping people most of the time. we love to see it. like the two above, it's older but it holds up)
Brooklyn 99 (much like columbo, everybody already knows this one)
Burn Notice (recent ex-spy stuck in miami tries to get his job back. an unfortunate amount of ogle-y filler shots. I liked the first 4 seasons and low key recommend stopping after it, but everybody's mileage varies.)
and finally, because i know who i a:
cartoons
Motorcity (what if the only answer to an oppressive conformist society was UNDERGROUND TEENS WITH CARS and it looked AMAZING and it was KILLED AFTER 20 EPISODES BECAUSE THERE IS NO GOD)
Storm Hawks (what if the only answer to a returning evil empire was SKY TEENS WITH AIRPLANE MOTORCYCLES, side note this is like the only time i've ever seen stylized 3D animation in a way that just looks? good?? i would love to see more stuff try this kind of direction instead of aiming for anime or realism)
Generator Rex (a teen with TRANSFORMING MUTANT MACHINE POWERS fights alongside a kinda sus organization to try to save others who have transformed into dangerous mutants. i haven't finished this one and im not a fan of the monkey character but dam this show kinda slaps)
Teen Titans (TEEN SUPERHEROES. i have a soft spot for this show. it was my first superhero show as a kid and still mostly holds up as good fun)
Spectacular Spider-Man (spider-man has a lotta cartoons by now but this is up there near the top i feel)
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (it's PRETTY it's CUTE it's FUNNY and only has a few episodes i would outright skip. i stopped enjoying it by the last couple seasons but i still think it's worth a watch if you haven't yet)
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD IN THIS WORLD WATCH THIS SHOW DEAR GODS IT LOOKS INCREDIBLE IT'S SO MUCH FUN AND I LOVE MY IDIOT SONS SO MUCH AND THEN IT PUNCHES YOU RIGHT IN THE EMOTIONS WHEN YOU AREN'T EXPECTING IT-)
and Bluey. watch Bluey.
AIGHT THAT'S IT FOR NOW honestly i could add more to this but my memory ain't that good
✨enjoy✨

Monk for the character ask thing <3 #s 10, 13, 14, 22, 27
Hii, thank you <333
10. Describe the character in one sentence.
Adrian Monk is my wonderful wife, and one of the greatest tv detectives ever! <3 :)
Or... Monk is a quirky, intelligent, delicate, soft and squishy malewife detective.... I'm being normal about him here.
13. Your favorite friendship they have.
Monk has so many wonderful friendships that he does not realize are friendships and I want to shake him and then apologize because oh god he's crying.
But, you know my answer. His friendship with Leland Stottlemeyer is where it is at! I could talk about them forever and ever.
It is about the - not friends to enemies to (best) friends - journey from friends/partners to friendship loss to a rekindeling of friendship and a refalling in love, listen -
It is also about touch! Hands! Oh god!
14. Best storyline they had.
Believe it or not. I cannot decide...
15. When do you think they were at their lowest?
This is a very difficult question because my wife has been through so much throughout his entire life.
He went from a bullied kid blaming himself for his father abandoning his family to a lonely adult who loses the love of his life! etc etc.
The easy answer is when Trudy died. His world fell apart. It was as if he died with her. His life was over. And, he probably felt very alone. It helped that Leland got him Sharona, but I do not believe Monk felt good about Leland leaving him like that. After all, Monk notes in the show, that everybody leaves him. He's got abandonement issues, and I will personally kill Jack Monk. So yeah, when Trudy died, he died. His lowest.
27. If they could meet a character from another show/movie/etc, who would be the most fun for them to meet?
Columbo. It is 2002 of course we can still make a Columbo/Monk crossover work!
No, but it would be a lot of fun! I'd love to see just the two of them solve a crime together.
I think Columbo would find Monk interesting (he actually reminds him of his very real nephew) while Monk would think Columbo is kind of gross (smoking, the raincoat, dirty car (the driving!) etc etc) :( can Natalie come pick him up from the crime scene :( but eventually, as they investigate the murder, Monk would maybe start to like Columbo a little. I can really see them figuring it all out and >:) at each other... <3333
(Another suggestion is Benoit Blanc - this is how Monk can be in Knives Out 3)
Thanks again for the ask <333

A Jehovah's Witness sent a letter to the building in Spanish. I translated it and did the forensics in a Columbo-esque sort of way. I think they were a realtor. That is a deadly combination. Like a dual class dnd character. Thief Shaman. Maybe that's too harsh of a conclusion. The letter mentioned proverbs 14:30 which had something to do with envy and rot. So naturally I applied it to Elden Ring which I finished finally with the Ranni, Age of Stars ending. I'm baptized, confirmed and non practicing in terms of Christianity. It doesn't mean I'm not spiritual. But people around here tend to judge you harshly if you don't go to church which is odd for an urban city like Chicago. That's kind of why I moved here from the suburbs to keep my business to myself. But I know enough about the Bible to have read through it once or twice. It's Christmas time anyway so it's good practice to get in the spirit of the holiday. The letter said if the message resonated to call them and since they are probably a realtor I wonder if they would try to witness me out of my apartment. People use religion of all kinds to confidence trick people out of the freedom of their life. That's how cults start. I'm not here to judge anyone's faith which is ironic in this context. But I did get to practice my Spanish. I'm celebrating Christmas with my mom late with Chinese food. We were both raised protestant but she has worked in the Archdiocese as a teacher for a few years. There was even that time growing up that we both had more affinity for Wiccan practices like Tarot. I never really gave up on those kind of ideals but I never really stopped being raised the way I was. Call it upbringing. I've been told I'm going to hell for more things than I can count but that's not really something I take too seriously in context of my own faith. She told me she tells people that I am too nice sometimes. Which isn't really true when I yell at the wall alone in my apartment in frustration with everything. But that niceness comes out sometimes humoring people and situations that don't deserve it. And then there are the people that do deserve it without question. I'm lucky to have those people in my life. But writing letters for me to accept Jesus is kind of redundant at this point. In America it never is good enough if someone asks about your spirituality. They never leave you alone. They expect something out of your faith. And that isn't really religious freedom at all. Imposing your divine will on someone else's like God so you can play it. I thought the concept of unconditional love was unconditional. Beyond all the religious imagery, it is a real important side of the Elden Ring lore. Queen Marika is the figure on the stakes you revive in. She's seemingly impaled on a rune arc. I wonder if the hidden message there is that faith can be a blessing for some and a burden for others. I'm not trying to lecture anybody on religion here at all. Just saying there's a classy way to express you believe in something without imposing your divine order on everybody else. Golden order or otherwise. For everybody who thought I was Satan around this neighborhood? It's not like you ever asked my first name. What's that line about judgement again? I think I read it on a yugioh card once. For the record, it's a little too late for introductions at this point. Nice letter though. Even if it wasn't addressed to me. Yours truly, Mr. Current Resident.

Suptober 31 Oct.: Costume
When Dean hesitated, Cas added, "I don't have any party food on hand, but I do have a pot of homemade vegetable soup we could heat up." As if to emphasize the point, a sharp breeze bore down on them, and both he and Dean shivered.
deancas ust, full au, no hooky-spooks, human cas + real toddler jack
Extra thank you’s and a million full sized candy bars of her choosing to @winchester-reload for all the wonderful prompts and running Suptober once again! It’s been a ton of fun. 🧡 Happy Halloween, everybody! 🎃
Unlike the woods, Dean's porch was neither lovely nor deep and was in fact currently festooned with about 900 feet of orange and black crepe paper, but it was mostly dark, despite the orange and purple twinkle light filtering through from inside his living room, and it would suffice. He sat heavily on the swing he'd installed a few months ago and focused on the bass thump of whatever monstrosity Ash was spinning. Occasionally someone would make a spooky howl or send up a cheer, probably when someone else drank something that might have been on fire.
Dean was glad the party was a rager. He just didn't actually want to attend it. Out on the porch it was him, the crepe paper jiggling in a damp wind, and a half dozen plastic skeletons hanging off of the gutters. Respite.
Something was picking its way up the shadowy walk to the porch steps. Dean crept over to say hi. Before it reached the stairs, the creature let out a pitiful cry; Dean's arm hair literally stood on end. The wail was so much that of a child, he felt his heart crack open.
"Dean?" a deep voice asked.
Dean almost tripped over his own stack of pumpkins. "Cas?" He flailed around for the flashlight on his belt and clicked it on.
"Hello, Dean." Cas waved as the narrow spotlight fell upon him. He stood at the bottom of the steps holding an unhappy bundle. "I'm sorry I'm late."
Sitting the flashlight upright on top of the banister, Dean clomped down the stairs, buoyed by pure relief. "Heya, Cas. No problem."
In the skittering moonlight he could see Cas was, predictably, still wearing his usual: trench coat, loose tie, suit almost a whole size too baggy. At the comic book store Dean owned, Cas was known as an unintentionally consummate Constantine cosplayer. Dean's business partner Charlie had informed them recently that Cas's shtick was additionally cool because kids today – she used air quotes – loved Columbo. Cas didn't seem any more aware of who Columbo was than he ever had Constantine, but he didn't also didn't seem to mind.
Tonight, he had an accessory.
"Hi there," Dean said to the toddler in Cas's arms.
The little ladybug, maybe two years old, rubbed his eye with his knuckles and scowled at Dean.
"This is Jack, my godson." Cas wiped a few lingering tears off of Jack's face gently. He lowered his voice to say, "His daycare class didn't take a nap today because they had a Halloween party."
"Oh, buddy," Dean said, rubbing Jack's velvety back. "That's rough."
Jack peeked at him and finally started to give him the smallest of smiles.
Dean smiled back. And smiled at Cas, whose return smile, though tired, was the best thing Dean had seen all week.
Of course, it was only Monday. But Cas was pretty much always the best thing Dean laid eyes on. Dean hadn't been able to figure out where the line was – Cas had become a loyal customer, and wasn't there something a bit skeevy about using that pond to fish in? And he immediately corrected it in his head, 'cause Cas wasn't just a customer. He was a friend. He'd spent as much time in the shop's reading nook talking to Dean about any and everything for the last year as Lisa or Benny or Jo had, and smelled better and was nicer to look at and was all around funnier than the three of them combined.
No offense, Dean thought, remembering that those friends, as well as four dozen others, were somewhere in his house, crunching monster munch and slurping up a thousand dollars' worth of poison apple punch.
"Your firefighter gear seems to still fit," Cas said.
Dean looked down at himself, the turnout coat and pants dusty with past soot and current cobwebs, the yellow-toed boots he'd only worn half a year before early retirement.
"Does it provoke any nostalgia?" Cas asked, tone respectful and curious.
"Nah." Dean took off his heavy helmet and scratched his fingernails over his sweaty scalp. Ahhh. "I mean, honestly – some days I miss being a big damn hero, yeah." He noticed that Jack was suddenly fascinated by the helmet. "But the time was right for me to go, so. I went." He held out the helmet and Jack's eyes grew even bigger. "You wanna try it on?"
Jack nodded, and sat up in Cas's arms a bit more. Dean put the helmet on his head carefully but didn't release it. Jack's entire skull was covered down to his shoulders. The toddler started giggling and it damn near made an echo, the helmet was so much bigger than he was. Dean whisked it back off of him and Jack squealed.
Cas bounced Jack once and Jack collapsed in more giggles on his chest.
"Uh oh," Dean said, "I think the slap happies have arrived."
"Oh yes," Cas said. "We are familiar with that this time of night." His tone was wry but his eyes were merry.
Dean couldn't look away. His stomach fluttered at the realization that Cas wasn't looking away either.
"Oh, hey. I haven't even invited you guys in." Dean glanced up the stairs. A lot of people were leaning against his living room windows, and someone had changed the orange twinkle lights to a disco setting – blink blink, blinkblinkblink. He recognized the opening chords to "Bela Lugosi's Dead" so at least Ash's taste had improved. Another thought occurred. "It might not be overly, um. Kid friendly."
Cas chuckled. "That's okay. We just wanted to stop by and say Happy Halloween."
"Hoppy Hallofeen," Jack mimicked in his tiny voice.
"I didn't realize trick or treating ended so early," Cas said. "We were going to visit a few houses but I think it's just as well we've almost missed the time frame."
"Would you mind the company?" Dean startled himself by asking. He gave a small cough. "I know a couple of places near here that are a sure thing even this late."
Cas looked at him like he was offering to pay for Jack's college tuition or something. He tipped his head. "Aren't you the host of this party?" He pointed up the steps.
"Yeah, but Sam'll take care of things. It's his house too."
Sam was in there somewhere dressed like a pirate for the third year in a row.
"I thought he moved out ahead of the wedding." Cas adjusted Jack to his other hip.
Dean sighed. "Yeah, he has, technically. But the wedding might not happen."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I put my RSVP in the mail Saturday." Cas's eyebrows drooped with concern.
"Sam invited you?" Dean smiled involuntarily at that. "Nice."
"He's become a good friend too. I always look forward to our book discussions at the shop. But I didn't know there were…problems between him and Eileen."
Dean shook his head. "Well, there aren't, really." He swallowed down that needling, hollow feeling that rattled around in his chest every time he thought about Sam and Eileen being on the other side of town, in their own little world, doing their own things. As far as Dean was concerned Sam wasn't old enough to buy beer yet, or vote, or join the military, or have a mortgage payment, much less a wife or, potentially, some day, a kid of his own. He shook his head again. "They're fine."
Cas gave him a long look with soft eyes. "You're welcome to join Jack and me tonight, if you'd like." He looked down at Jack, who was half asleep, clutching onto Cas's coat lapel like a baby monkey. "Though I imagine it'd be best if we skipped the candy grab."
When Dean hesitated, Cas added, "I don't have any party food on hand, but I do have a pot of homemade vegetable soup we could heat up." As if to emphasize the point, a sharp breeze bore down on them, and both he and Dean shivered.
Dean made an executive decision. "That sounds great. Are you parked down the street?"
"No, we walked over."
"Wait, how far away do you live?"
Cas looked away for a second and seemed to have to tap some inner strength. "I live over on Elmwood."
"Dude," Dean said, eyes popping. "That's not even half a mile away. You've lived half a mile away this whole time we've known each other?"
The apples of Cas's cheeks were pink. Dean tried not to be gleeful or lewd about it inside his own head.
"We've never…" Cas cleared his throat. "We always meet up at the shop, so. I didn't want to outstay my welcome."
"First of all, come to the shop any time. All day, every day. You could do your work from home stuff there, if you wanted. I'm not gonna mind, and neither would Charlie. Secondly, we live like nine blocks apart. This whole thing where we've been doing classic-movie marathons over text is finito effective immediately; we're doing the next one in person, for pity's sake." Dean flailed his hands and huffed for emphasis.
Cas bit his lip for a second. "All right." He squared himself. "Well. Soup."
They'd traveled a few blocks when Cas said, "You know, you're still a big damn hero as far as I'm concerned. You run a shop that's a safe space for everyone who's in it, which is children a lot of the time. I've seen you call in favors from all sorts of people to help customers who're having a hard time with any number of things – paying rent or having enough to eat or dealing with rotten families. Or just needing their car's oil changed." He waited, like he thought Dean might respond.
Dean wanted to, but his throat hurt too badly. Under a street light he paused and Cas paused beside him.
"It's just a little shop that sells comics and old records and posters of Wonder Woman," Dean said finally.
Cas looked at him with the utmost kindness in his eyes. "You know it's more than that."
Dean wiped the corner of his eye with the back of his hand. "Sometimes it's a place for nerds to argue who would win, Thorn versus Hulk."
Jack perked up and started making growling noises and beating his fists on Cas's shoulder.
"That's right," Dean encouraged. "Hulk smash!"
"RRRRRRrrrrr," Jack said.
Cas gave them both tolerant looks. Jack hid his face in Cas's chest, giggling.
They kept walking. Another block, and Dean was able to say quietly, "Thanks, Cas."
"You're welcome." Cas bumped into him. Probably by accident. After five more minutes he stopped in front of a small brick house with an autumn leaf wreath on the door, a light-up jack o'lantern in the window, and a swing on the porch. "We're home," he said, glancing at Dean.
The phrasing rattled around in Dean's brain for a moment, but he found himself once again unable to look away from Cas.
Oh, he thought. Yes, we're home.
