Ehya, pegs! I'm late to the party but if you're still up for it...
1. I love Vonnegut, i still haven't read timequake (in Italian it has the super charming name "Cronosisma"), but thank you for letting me know it's depressing sjsksks did you take with you any other books to read through your journey? Or are you buying them from local bookshops?
2. People that travel always talk about "best dressed people are from ****". Which population do you think dress better? Or... Do you actually notice a change in fashion?
I gotta say that I've never notice an actual difference, but i don't have a keen eye for fashion so snsjsjsjs wanna know your opinion.
Get better and enjoy your fuze tea!
1. I brought a Kobo e-reader from home! it's a lifesaver because i'm backpacking and i don't really have space for books ... super small and light :) so far i've read Love in the Time of Cholera and Jane Eyre.
2. the change in fashion in some of the places i go has been HUGE. huge !!! in Brussels, Gent and Paris (and Vienna i guess), mostly everyone was super trendy and well-dressed (perfect hair, perfect makeup, expensive brands, neutral colours, pristine sneakers)... i felt like such a slob in comparison.
in Zürich, München, Budapest, Bratislava, Brno etc, no one seemed to care as much. i thought the Hungarian and Slovakian fashion was very reminiscent of canadian styles in 2012-2014 actually ... lots of glitter and rhinestone shirts, adidas shoes and converse, skinny jeans, etc. and lots more people wearing comfy clothes and regular athleisure, etc.
pretty much all of the teenagers look the same everywhere on the continent so far, though. they all dress like tiktok influencers. it's kinda weird :-|
i think a lot of people in Paris did look really good (and really rich <3 lol), but i felt uncomfortable in comparison. i really prefer the less-posh areas where i can wear my secondhand clothes and not feel like a sore thumb LOL

Hi 👋 I live in the south and I wanna GET OUTTA HERE. Public transport is literally #1 on my list of "looking where to move". But we're also considering potentially outside of the US. I know Amsterdam has the best public transit in the world and whatnot, but can you make a "top cities for public transport/urban design in the world" list?
I am going to focus on countries with legal gay marriage but it's New York, Taipei, Berlin, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, Helsinki. If you are willing to live in places without Gay Marriage, Tokyo and Seoul are pretty great as well. Of course when moving to another country you have to be willing to accept that things are done differently there, and learn the language at a minimum

The Games We Play of Dust and Ash (Yandere Moriarty the Patriot Masterlist)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thinking about Yandere Albert James Moriarty and his darling after the time skip…
He gets locked up for three years in the Tower of London for his crimes, but what about his darling? She committed no crime, so she is free…
That is a foreign word to her…
Free.
Her sister by now, Mycroft’s darling, has been married off to the rather strict man, her parents are dead due the actions of the Moriarty brothers, Louis’ darling is still stuck with him, William’s darling is god knows where, and everyone else she knew in her captive like marriage shares a similar fate to the others…
She is free and alone…
She meets with her parents’ old lawyer and in her parents’ death everything was either given to Albert since he was her husband or to Mycroft when her sister was married off to him. Since Albert is doing his time for his crimes, every last cent and property that was given to him in her parents’ death belong to her. Sure he did give quite a bit of it away to charity, orphanages and what not, but what was left of it was hers.
She is free, alone, and has more money than one person could spend in a lifetime…
She spends a few days in her family’s old home, the one she was raised in and her parents died in, contemplating what to do now, and then when she is out on a walk the answer hits her. She was walking past a pair of girls, just of the age of marriage and they were talking…
“Think of it, if we had the money, no one could tie us down, we could go see the world to our hearts’ content, actually live life instead of wasting it all for a man.”
That is what she would do…
She would live her life.
The next day she has packed her belongings in suitcases and sets out to see the world.
She travels everywhere…
Spending a summer in Paris where she met few old friends from her finishing school days.
Getting on a train to Monte Carlo for autumn.
Then down to Naples for the winter…
Vienna…
Madrid…
Oslo…
Copenhagen…
Berlin…
Moscow…
Saint Petersburg…
Athens…
Malta…
Bern…
And every place she goes to, a new letter or postcard would be delivered to the drawing room of the home of Mycroft and his darling, her sister. Of course she would also send ones to Louis’ darling as well, but not as commonly as she knows that Louis would probably not be happy on her choice to travel instead of waiting on Albert’s release and staying with them in London.
But at some point one has to settle and make a home for themselves…
So she goes back to where she first started…
London.
But she does not go back to stay with anyone she once knew, no she is finally making a name for herself and securing her own fortune and place in high society, and let’s just say her travels inspired her on how to do just that.
When Albert is finally free and he has a moment to relax, he is given an address from Mycroft to visit and soon he finds himself in the lobby of a high end hotel in London. Guests and staff rush past him, everyone having a place to be and things to do, but why was he told to come here if all places…
“My lady, was it the lilies or the lilacs that you wanted in the lounge on the first floor?”
“Lilacs along with forget me not. Also do not forget about the wisteria I wanted ordered for the gardens.”
“Ma’am, we have a reservation for a wedding party but we are short a room of the ones they requested.”
“Move the bride and groom to the honeymoon suite, do not charge them extra, it is our fault for overbooking. Also give them a formal written apology and free drinks at the first floor bar for the duration of their stay, the bride and groom that is.”
“Ma’am, the macarons for the gala next week, what were the numbers for the orders.”
“Twenty dozen, evenly split between the flavors ordered… actually wait, that will not be enough… make it forty baker’s dozen instead, that will give us 280 more, also do not forget about the cakes for that and the lavender based confections cannot be cross contaminated with the others, the Duchess of York has a horrible allergy to them.”
That voice…
He looks over to see a lady walking through the hotel lobby along side a few staff members...
It’s her…
His wife…
His darling.
“Now is my driver ready, I have dinner with my sister tonight and I do not want to be late, after all we only get to do this when he husband is out of the house- by the way speaking of Mycroft Holmes, I did not appreciate that police investigation of the third floor suite, the drug dealer was already long gone from here and they terrified the guests who had just came in there, I would like to see him held accountable and-“
She stops in her tracks and words as she sees Albert standing there and a look of pure terror comes across her face.
“Please excuse me, I feel unwell, I think I am going to lay down for the night.”
“But Mrs. Moriarty, you have dinner with-“
“Send her a telegram and tell her I am unwell.”
Before Albert could say anything she rushed up the grand staircase of the hotel, up to her own room.
A smile came across his face…
She kept his last name.

Denmark and Germany announce arrests of terror suspects, including suspected Hamas members
By Jan M. Olsen and Kirsten Grieshaber, December 15, 2023
Tumblr media
Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen speaks with the media as she arrives for an EU summit at the European Council building in Brussels, Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023. European Union leaders, in a two-day summit will discuss the latest developments in Russia's war or aggression against Ukraine and continued EU support for Ukraine and its people. (AP Photo/ Virginia Mayo)
COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) - Denmark and Germany announced Thursday arrests of several terror suspects, including alleged Hamas members suspected of plotting attacks on Jews and Jewish institutions in Europe over the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
The announcements were issued separately and it was unclear how the arrests were connected and if they were the result of coordinated actions, or even possibly one operation spanning the continent.
Danish police said three people were arrested across Denmark while a fourth person was detained in the Netherlands on suspicion of plotting to carry out "an act of terror."
Officials in Copenhagen did not provide any details beyond saying the arrests had "threats abroad" and were "related to criminal gangs," singling out the banned, predominantly immigrant gang Loyal to Familia that had long been behind feuds, violence, robberies, extortion and drug sales in the Danish capital.
However, Flemming Drejer, the operative head of Denmark's Security and Intelligence Service,
cryptically said police had "a special focus" on Jewish institutions. He said Denmark was not changing its terror threat level, which has been at "serious," the second-highest level, since 2010.
"Persons abroad have been charged. ... It is a serious situation," Drejer told a news conference, adding that the arrests were carried out in "collaboration with our foreign partners" and that those arrested were part of "a network."
The suspects would face a custody hearing within 24 hours, he said, likely behind "double closed doors" - meaning he could not give any details about the case.
"This is extremely serious," Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said Thursday from Brussels where she was attending a European Union Summit.
"It is of course completely unacceptable in relation to Israel and Gaza, that there is someone who takes a conflict somewhere else in the world into Danish society," she added.
In the Netherlands, police said a 57-year-old Dutch man was arrested in the city of Rotterdam, based on a request from German authorities, according to spokesman Jesse Brobbel. On Tuesday, the Dutch counterterrorism agency raised the country's threat alert to its second-highest level, saying the possibility of an attack in the country is now "substantial."
In Germany, authorities said three suspected members of the Palestinian militant Hamas group who were allegedly planning attacks on Jewish institutions in Europe were arrested on Thursday.
Two men were arrested in Berlin and one in the Dutch city of Rotterdam, while a fourth suspect was temporarily detained in Berlin, Germany's federal prosecutor said. Authorities only identified the men by their first names and the first initial of their last name, in line with German privacy rules.
The four were Abdelhamid AI A., born in Lebanon; Egyptian national Mohamed B.; Dutch national Nazih R. and Ibrahim El-R., born in Lebanon.
The authorities alleged three of the men "have been longstanding members of Hamas and have participated in Hamas operations abroad." They said the suspect were "closely linked to the military branch's leadership" of Hamas, considered a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union.
German Justice Minister Marco Buschmann thanked the authorities for the arrests and said that "attacks on Jews and Jewish institutions have also increased in our country in recent weeks" due to the Israel-Hamas war.
It was not immediately clear if and how the Danish and the German arrests were connected.
In Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu's office lauded what it said were seven Hamas suspects arrested in Europe, but attributed the arrests to Danish police.
The prime minister's office said Denmark had arrested seven operatives acting on behalf of Hamas and "thwarted an attack aimed at killing innocent citizens on European sail." Netanyahu's office said Israel's intelligence agencies "will continue to operate ... in order to repel the intentions of Hamas and eliminate its capabilities."
The discrepancies between the Danish, German and Israeli statements could not immediately be resolved.
Earlier this month, the European Union's home affairs commissioner, Ylva Johansson, warned that Europe faced a "huge risk of terrorist attacks" over the Christmas holiday period due to the fallout from the fighting in Gaza.
Denmark's foreign intelligence service, known as FE, said Thursday in its annual assessment for 2023 that "the war between Israel and Hamas was once again shown that unresolved conflicts in Europe's immediate area can escalate rapidly and create widespread regional instability."
Grieshaber reported from Berlin.

the ring: if u could visit/live anywhere in the world, where would u?+ midsommar: show ur lock screen + home screen!
the ring:
oof there are so many places I'd want to visit! Definitely wanna do some more in-country travel, wanna see Berlin and Hamburg and Bremen again (all the bigger cities tbh), wanna visit that one park with the Iconic ™ round devil's bridge everyone keeps reblogging photos of on here lol as well as see ALL THE CASTLES! Schloss Neuschwanstein being on the very top of that list! And the town of Hammelburg of course, for silly Hogan's Heroes fan reasons 🙈
I'd also love to explore Amsterdam at a slower pace, the class trip was super rushed and focused on art history, quick museum visits, life drawing, some culture, and all the presentations we had to prepare beforehand orz
I wanna travel around Denmark some more as well. I've been on family vacations in the same small town near the southwestern coast a couple times but I'd love to see Copenhagen one day!
Japan is another obvious favourite on the list! Wanna experience the city life (and go shopping for street fashion and lolita fashion in person!!!) and the countryside and culture so bad, Sharla in Japan's and Rachel and Jun's videos just aren't enough for me anymore 😭
If at all possible, the U.S. would be on that list as well, just to get a chance to see some of my fandom friends! Also all the national parks! The Closet Historian's and The Milk Club's travel/antique-ing/thrifting vlogs have really awakened something in me lol Also also kinda wanna go shopping at walmart, just to see how the American Experience is. We did have a walmart in Germany at one time in the early 2000s but it was almost identical to the local Big Supermarket chains and disappeared after a couple months??? OH almost forgot: HOT TOPIC (and 80s style malls)!!! But not the current Hot Topic shops, I'd wanna go back to the late 90s/early 2000s style of shops 😭 Used to look at their online shop every day as a young teen, and I always dreamed of shopping there one day...
Lastly I suppose I'd want to see each European country at least once in my life!
No particular idea where I'd wanna live permanently tho All I'd want is a space of my own that's up to code and dry and warm and safe lol

A Whole Lot of Travelling
~by Tanju Ozdemir As my time in Oxford and Europe comes to a close, I’ve had time to reflect on the many experiences I’ve had while studying abroad. As part of Group 1, we visited the most cities (Copenhagen, Hamburg, Berlin, Prague, Munich, Salzburg, Vienna, Bruges) and countries (Denmark, Germany, Czechia, Austria, Belgium) of the 3 travel groups during the travel portion. (I haven’t even mentioned day trips and stopovers! ) It was a rewarding, exhausting and exciting experience all rolled into one, juggling travel classes, visiting concerts and museum visits while also experiencing the sights and sounds of Europe.
The two travel portion classes we took were Musicians & Their Music and History of Art II.
Musicians & Their Music covered a whole lot of compositions starting from the Mediaeval period and ending at the 20th century. We listened to a wide range of music from Gregorian chants to Bebop Jazz. I really appreciate how the class exposed me to different musical genres and musicians beyond ones I already knew, broadening my musical horizons. One example of this that sticks out to me is when we learned about Johannes Brahms and his compositions. Though he’s a titan of orchestral music, I knew very little about him and his work. However, that changed at a concert in Berlin, where Hungarian Dance No. 4 was performed. I was enraptured by the performance and the piece! To me, it had the perfect mix of drama, instrumentation and emotion. The composition was stuck in my head for days afterwards, and led me to listen to the rest of Brahms’ Hungarian Dances, giving me a newfound love for his music.
Brahms Hungarian Dance No. 4
I had a similar experience in History of Art II, where we covered art from antiquity all the way to the early 20th century (and a lot about chairs sup. One artist in particular that I grew to appreciate was Caspar David Friedrich. Before taking this class, I only really knew him as that one artist whose painting was used in Minecraft. During the course of the class I got to see his paintings in Hamburg and Berlin while also getting to learn more about his work, style and the hidden meaning behind it. Seeing Wanderer above the Sea of Fog in person in Hamburg was incredible. We learned about the concept of the sublime in nature (how intimidating and monumental nature can be to people) and how the painting captured this idea, but when standing there in front of it, you could really feel it and I felt the same way looking at his other works while in Berlin. It inspired me to look into his life and his influences, which ultimately gave me a better understanding and appreciation of his art.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’d take a while to write about all the cities we visited so I’ll try and keep it brief.
Copenhagen: Lovely city, very walkable and good public transit but a bit pricey
Hamburg: Very historic (lots of maritime history), has some unique attractions (check out the Miniature Wonderland)
Berlin: Unique, historic, vibrant city with a lot of contrast still between East and West (I really liked the computer games museum)
Prague: Everything is really cheap, Old town is aesthetically pleasing, but can quickly get flooded with tourists
Munich: My favourite city, great mix of historic and modern attractions and just a very vibrant place all around (Do not miss out on visiting HofBrauhaus for a traditional Bavarian Experience!)
Salzburg: Small city with lots of musical history surrounding Mozart and the Sound of Music, great nature right next door in the Austrian and Bavarian Alps.
Vienna: Very interesting place if you’re into history, art and music. It can get fairly hot due to the lack of green spaces
Bruges: Old town is quaint, but it does quickly get flooded with tourists and things are pricey.
Two aspects of my study abroad program I really liked were trying different foods and enjoying the natural scenery.
I got to try a lot (and I mean a lot) of food, but I’ve picked out 2 of the best and 2 of the strangest examples of food I tried while travelling. I had the pleasure of trying Cambodian food for the first time while in Copenhagen of all places, and it was fantastic. The dish consisted of a white fish stewed in coconut milk with bamboo shoots and various other vegetables served alongside white rice, all cooked to perfection. It was very flavorful and aromatic.
Tumblr media
Cambodian Fish Stew and Rice
Another great dish I had was Cheese Spaetzle, a southern German dish similar to mac n cheese consisting of egg noodles and emmental cheese topped with fried onion, while in Vienna. Savory, rich and delicious!
Tumblr media
Cheese Spaetzle
Two of the strangest dishes I had were a Bismarck herring sandwich (pickled herring, purple onion and lettuce) in Hamburg and Jellied Eels (boiled eels encased in gelatine) with Pie, mash and liquor (a green parsley sauce) in London. The herring was pretty vinegary and had a bit of chew to it, and the jellied eels taste like white fish encased in jello. The pie and mash was pretty good, and the parsley liquor added a nice freshness to everything. I’ll say that these dishes tasted better than they looked (for the most part.) and it was interesting getting to try traditional, historic food from these places.

Jellied Eels with Pie and Mash
My first experience with beautiful natural scenery on this trip came when a day trip from Salzburg was organised to hike up the Kehlstein Mountain to the Eagle’s Nest in Southern Bavaria. Though a moderately challenging hike, the effort was well worth it as the views from the Bavarian Alps were incredible. It was a nice change of pace from the hustle and bustle of the cities we visited.
Tumblr media
Kehlstein Mountain, Germany
This hike inspired me to look for more natural scenery to view while based in Oxford, which led me to travel in search of natural wonders. The views I managed to see are ones I won’t be forgetting anytime soon. I would highly recommend visiting rural Scotland and Ireland. Though often harder to get to (public transport isn’t the greatest compared to continental Europe), it’s well worth the effort.
Tumblr media
Wicklow Mountains, Ireland
Tumblr media
Giants Causeway, Northern Ireland
Tumblr media
Scottish Highlands
Tumblr media
Loch Ness, Scotland
My advice to anyone who’s thinking of applying: Do it. I can say with confidence that this has been a highlight of my Georgia Tech experience, and that what I saw, learned and otherwise experienced has helped me grow as a person. Since the travel groups are pretty small, you’ll get to know some people really well and form close friendships. Regarding travel advice, I’ve listed a few points below:
Make plans in advance (especially for flights), but also be flexible
Time will fly by fast so make the most of every moment
Keep up with classes, but also travel around while in Oxford (especially if your schedule can accommodate day trips!)
Try new things and meet new people
Reach out to previous participants (you’ll get a lot of helpful info)

Caspar David Friedrich
Caspar David Friedrich, (born September 5, 1774, Greifswald, Pomerania [now in Germany]—died May 7, 1840, Dresden, Saxony), one of the leading figures of the German Romantic movement. His vast, mysterious, atmospheric landscapes and seascapes proclaimed human helplessness against the forces of nature and did much to establish the idea of the Sublime as a central concern of Romanticism.
Man and Woman Contemplating the Moon, oil on canvas by Caspar David Friedrich, c. 1824; in the Old National Gallery (Alte Nationalgalerie), Berlin. 34 × 44 cm.(more)
Friedrich studied from 1794 to 1798 at the Copenhagen Academy, one of the most progressive art schools of the day. Though he was taught by many painters, the school did not offer a course in painting. He settled at Dresden and became a member of an artistic and literary circle that included the painter Philipp Otto Runge and the writers Ludwig Tieck and Novalis. His drawings in sepia, executed in his neat early style, won the poet J.W. von Goethe’s approval and half of the prize from the Weimar Art Society in 1805. His first important oil painting, The Cross in the Mountains (c. 1807; also called the Tetschen Altarpiece), established his mature style, characterized by an overwhelming sense of stillness and isolation, and was an attempt to replace the traditional symbology of religious painting with one drawn from nature. Other symbolic landscapes, such as The Sea of Ice (1822; also called The Wreck of the Hope; now lost), which makes reference Sir William Parry’s polar expedition, reveal his fatalism and his attitude toward Nature. Though they were based on close observation of the landscape, his works were coloured by his imaginative response to the atmosphere of the Baltic coast and the Harz Mountains, which he found both awesome and ominous. In 1824 he was made a professor of the Royal Dresden Art Academy, though not in the capacity he had wished for. In 1835 he suffered a stroke from which he never recovered, and a second stroke in 1837 caused him almost complete paralysis. His reputation was in decline by the time of his death as the Romantic movement gave way to Realism. For a long time his work was forgotten; it was revived in the 20th century, and the artist’s reputation continued to strengthen into the 21st.

250 years of Caspar David Friedrich in Saxony
Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840) spent most of his life in Dresden. He travelled extensively in Saxony, preparing sketches and watercolours in his Dresden studio that became masterpieces. In total, he created 150 paintings. Always out and about on foot, he was a kind of early "slow traveller", with a keen eye for nature that his imagination translated into great works of art. Often misunderstood during his lifetime, Caspar David Friedrich is today regarded as the most important German painter of the Romantic period. His most famous painting is probably "Wanderer above the Sea of Fog" (Der Wanderer über dem Nebelmeer), which was inspired by the wildly romantic landscape of Saxon Switzerland. 2024 sees his 250th birthday which will be celebrated in style in Saxony.

Berlin Week 6.5: Revisiting goals for my time in Berlin
By Ilyana Smith, Aerospace Engineering major
I arrived in Berlin just over six weeks ago, but it feels like I've been here a lot longer. It's been an amazing experience, and I partially wish I could stay here longer. On the other hand, I'm also ready to go home.
Before I arrived, I set some goals for myself. I want to go back to those and assess how well I met those goals.
Goal 1: Learn about 3D Printing and Materials
I 100% met this goal. I know a lot more now about 3D printing and other polymer manufacturing methods, as well as more about polymers in general. The lab class really helped me understand a lot more about the intricacies of polymer manufacturing and how different various polymers can be from one another. I think this will give me a good perspective in the future so that I can consider the manufacturing requirements of parts I am designing.
Goal 2: Improve My German Skills
Again, 100% met. My German was pretty good coming into this program, but there's nothing like spending time in the country where a language is spoken, even if it's not truly an immersive experience. My more specific goal was to have at least one conversation fully in German each day. And while I'm not certain I met that, I think I came pretty close, and in any case my language skills are definitely significantly improved compared with where they were when I came into this program. I'm really excited to have improved so much, and I'm excited to keep working towards my German minor and approach a point where I'm confident enough in German that I could use it professionally in the future.
Goal 3: Understand how daily life in Germany differs from daily life in America
This was an interesting goal, and I think I met it to some degree, but I'm also now very aware of how little I understand. I would have had to live with a host family, I think, to fully grasp all of the differences, but there were a few big things that I picked up. For example, while the tap water is safe to drink, most people here don't drink it. This means that if you order water at a restaurant, they will bring you bottled water, which means that they will charge for the water and there are no refills included. This was something I never really got used to, and I don't think I'd ever get used to it. On the other hand, while the water is expensive, most other things are pretty cheap, compared with the US. Groceries are much less expensive overall, and it's possible to get a scoop of ice cream for around 1.5 euros at almost every corner. In addition to all this, there's a number of cultural and political things that I think I started to pick up on, but I'm not sure I understand fully.
Goal 4: Become a more confident Traveler
Again, 100%. I had the opportunity to travel all over Germany and even to Copenhagen over the course of this trip. I've been on both planes and trains, and I've dealt with delays and navigating foreign cities and finding hotels, and I'm really proud of how far I've come. I had traveled before this trip, but never quite so independently. Now I feel much more prepared to travel and to do so on my own if need be.

Now, after all these wonderful experiences, I'm ready to go home.
Auf wiedersehen, Deutschland!

Arkansas International
Recently challenged by a Texan’s intrastate-international vacation, we knew that Arkansas could not be easily beaten. Starting just up the Arkansas River, practically in our backyard, we began our trip with the first stop in London, a city with as strong a tie to America as any, stronger than most. Only a half-an-hour or so up the road we arrived at Paris, where we enjoyed the tower of fame. Really, they have one. Barcelona was next on our itinerary. And who wouldn’t want to see the largest unfinished church in the world – the Sagrada Familia Church?
Tumblr media
The hard to see pins represent our travels.
Next is the coup de grass. (You’re in Arkansas, remember?) Venus, only 59.87 million miles from Barcelona. No wait. I got ahead of myself. Venus, Arkansas, is actually 111 miles from Barcelona, in Madison County. From Venus we head east to Melbourne, spelt the way the Brits wanted it spelt. From Melbourne where we arrived in time to enjoy Arkansas’ best Cave City watermelons, we turned south, believe it or not, to Denmark. South of Denmark is Warsaw. And south of Warsaw is Stuttgart. Arkansas is as rich with German flavor as Stuttgart is in ducks. (Look it up.) From Stuttgart we continue south to Moscow where we race through to Hamburg and then Berlin. (Recall what I said about Germany in Arkansas.) After Berlin we turn west to Venice. Don’t blink, and don’t look for any gondolas. Lisbon is next. Lisbon is famous for, among other things, Jeronimos Monastery. But I think Geronimo spelled his name differently, and prob’ly didn’t have a monastery named after him.
From Lisbon it’s on to Cairo after passing through El Dorado. Don’t ask why they named it The Golden, cause it ain’t. It’s more like the West’s first oil boom town. After Cairo it’s back northward to Bismarck. The Caddo Indians might could tell you something about Bismarck; ‘cause I can’t.
Tumblr media
Continuing north, we get to London’s cousin, Dublin. Dublin is only a stone’s skip across the river from London and our Crow Mountain home. In total, our international journey took us 1036 miles, after deducting the wrong turn miles and “recalculating” miles. We’re excited to remind you of the Cave City watermelons (followed closely in sweetness by those from Hope, Arkansas) and also wish to tell you about the pristine pleasures found in and on the Buffalo River, as well as the world-famous cold-water trout fishing on the White River.
Tumblr media
As hinted, Stuttgart has more duck hunting than just about anywhere. And we took you right past the only place anywhere that you can keep all the diamonds you can find – right on top of the ground. Cotton, rice, and timber are the money crops, though cattle folk might quibble about inclusion. And bass fishermen would be upset if they didn’t get a shout out. For us, give us the 165-mile Ozark Highlands Trail with the two thousand feet (approx.) elevation uppin’ and downin’, and the hundreds of waterfalls. And also, the Buffalo River Trail is a must for hikers.
Tumblr media
On a map, the route looks like Thor’s hammer – and is just about as much fun. (huh?)
Now, should you, for whatever reason, wish to replicate this Arkansas tour on a global scale instead of within the confines of Arkansas, one route, using a combination of transportation modes, would take you about 27,000 miles. (Efforts were made to attempt efficiency) For the sake of continuity, let’s begin, again, in London, the United Kingdom this time, shooting directly to Denmark. For convenience, we’ll say Copenhagen where flight connections are prob’ly better. From there we would fly to Hamburg, Germany. At Hamburg we rent a car (because that’s how we roll) driving 289 km (sorry) to Berlin, Germany. Then we drive south some more to Bismarck, another 634 km (sorry) circling around Nuremburg. South again 127 km (sorry) takes us to Stuttgart.
If you’ve managed to stay away from the beer steins (Don’t go in Oktober), then you can now head east to Warsaw, Poland of course. If you drive, it’s 1121 km (sorry) and a long drive. You might want to fly since the next leg is on to Moscow, Russia. Unless you have an itch to visit a Gulag, you might skip these 1260 km (sorry). Next after Moscow is a long flight (hopefully) to Melbourne, Australia. We sincerely hope you made it. From Melbourne it’s another long flight to Cairo, Egypt. The miles to the sights are not included in the official itinerary.
Venice, Italy is next. Since driving would take you 28 hours to drive the 2524 km (sorry), we’d fly. Now you can ride the gondola.
After driving 1239 km (sorry), assuming you rented another car, you arrive at Barcelona, Spain. Oops. This is where you get to see the big, unfinished church. West another 1250 km (sorry) west is Lisbon, Portugal. Remember the Monastery?
Paris, France is next – the real Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, and trading German beer for over-priced French wine (as if I would know anything about either one). That leg is 1735 km (sorry). We’d fly, ourselves. But then, great things have been said about the European rail systems.
And as in the Arkansas trip, Dublin, Ireland this time though, is the last city before returning to London. To Dublin is 1052 km (sorry). Again, better to fly, especially since there is no bridge from England to Ireland.  Dublin back to London is 361 miles (yay!), but only takes an hour to fly. The total trip was (after doing what Brits and Aussies call maths) 26,993 miles. Now, should you wish to add considerable time to the already exciting adventure, you can take off on a down-and-back trip (up-and-back, actually – What do we know, you might have to rocket off from the bottom of the globe) Anyway, you can take off from anywhere you would like – to Venus. (Moscow not recommended) That jaunt would add a mere 59.87 million miles, depending on the day of travel.
Debbie and I, we love Arkansas, leaving off having to learn the eight foreign languages, eleven if you consider what the British, Irish, and Aussies have done to English. Considering the Venusians – better take one of those Dummies or Idiots books along.
And, should we take a notion, we can repeat this project focusing on a 28 Arkansas towns Holy Land trip! After all, Jerusalem is just a spit an’ a holler up the road.

SEE: Alt Rock | King Krule - “Flimsier” + Tour
Tumblr media
King Krule releases “Flimsier,” the opening track from his highly anticipated forthcoming album Space Heavy, which gets a full release this Friday via Matador Records. The new single comes alongside a visualizer created by Archy’s long-time collaborator and brother, Jack Marshall. “Filmsier” is the final single to be revealed from Space Heavy, following the acclaimed singles “Seaforth” and “If Only It Was Warmth.” The track first sparked a frenzy in fans last year, when King Krule debuted it during his performance at Primavera Sound. Then again, when it resurfaced via exclusive flexi-discs sold at King Krule’s SHHH Tour in April - an intimate run of shows across the US, UK, and EU that sold out in under 2 minutes. The single became a fan favourite, racking up hundreds of thousands of streams via fan videos on YouTube. After a year of waiting, “Filmsier” gets an official release today. On Friday of this week, King Krule will release Space Heavy in full. The 15-track full-length inhabits the deepest reaches of the subterranean sonic world that Archy Marshall has constructed over the course of his career as King Krule. Written over the course of commutes between London and Liverpool, where Archy was splitting his time, he found himself fascinated by the notion of “the space between”; the space haunted by dreams of love, lost connection, losing people and situations to the guillotine of the universe. Once written by Archy, the music was developed by frequent collaborator Dilip Harris and long-time band mates Ignacio Salvadores (Saxophonist), George Bass (Drummer), James Wilson (Bass Guitarist) and Jack Towell (Guitarist). The result sees King Krule stepping into the height of their artistic powers; using his years of experience to create a dynamic body of work that reveals something new with every listen.
