Continuing my redesigns for Descendants, this is my take on Carlos de Vil! Here’s where I can see why the modern setting approach works better for a character like Carlos, whose mother isn’t close to the other villains’ time periods. Let’s just pretend that in this take, the school and world take place in a “out of time” sort of setting where it’s primarily a fantasy oriented place with the possibility of characters coming in from modern time periods. That, or the other characters are just suuuuper old fashioned. 🙃 For Carlos, I liked the idea of his wardrobe being old money hand downs passed over to him by Cruella - high fashion materials that are now tearing and falling apart. I kept him slightly shorter than the girls (even though it’s not super apparent without a height comparison) just because I liked that idea of him being the runt of the litter in his friend group.

According to the Book Disney Descendants: Up Close! Mal was born in 1999.

She was 6 years old when she wasn’t invited to Evie’s 6th Birthday Party, which took place 10 years after all the villains were banished to the Island. Which places it in 2005. (Isle of The Lost Novel)

That means that That Auradon was created in 1995.

It also means that Rise of Red takes place in 2025.

Headcanon that the Isle kids have no clue of what emotions are appropriate for what circumstances, or how to interpret others' emotions.

The Hook kids see yelling and screaming as a completely ordinary form of communication; their father raged so often that they barely even register it.

Carlos finds it very difficult to tell whether he's in trouble or not. Someone acting kind and sweet makes him feel uneasy; when his mother acted like this, he could never tell if it was genuine or merely a facade.

And that's without even getting into Claudine Frollo.

OK. I’m going to give my two cents on the whole Carlos/Cameron Boyce tribute in the rise of red film. Now this might ruffle some of y’all feathers but at this point I really don’t give a damn, some of y’all are low-key getting on my last nerves and have been ever since they announced that they were doing another descendants film and y’all wanted to bitch and complain about how this was not honoring his memory or legacy or whatever else bullshit y’all wanted to spew. I think how they went about doing it was very respectful and in a good way. I’ve seen people on Tumblr (particularly this one person🙄) say that they hated it and they didn’t like how they did it and they wish they would’ve just said that the character was off somewhere else. Listen, there is no right way to do these kinds of things when an actor or actress passes away and whatever projects they were a part of continue on. There is no EASY way to handle those situations. Because no matter what they do, someone’s gonna find some kind of problem with it. Whether they kill the character off or they recast the character or they say the characters off somewhere else but at the same time that doesn’t mean they need to stop doing those projects or anything involving those projects. Take Glee for instance (Cory), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (Chadwick). As long as they try to be respectful and try to find a way to honor that actor or actress I don’t see a problem. And to be quite frank with some of you, the only people whose opinion on this that actually matters is Cameron’s family who pretty much gave their approval for this. So as long as they’re OK with it, that’s it. So whatever else shit y’all keep saying that should be stopped and that’s the end of the discussion. And if you still have problems with it, (and feel free to take the offense) you can take your opinion and go straight to hell

Like seriously, put Regina mills and Evie together side by side, and they look seriously related. Same with Once upon a time Cruella and Carlos.

Disney should've used the Once upon a time cast as the descendants' vk's parents instead of the people they casted

“Lo?” Oscar poked his head into Alex’s open driver room. Logan wasn’t in his usual space and Oscar wanted to show off his new toy car.

“Oscar, what have we said about going into other people’s spaces without knocking.” Carlos chastised the child.

“Lo no here!” Oscar pointed at the space devoid of his best friend and stomped his foot.

“Oscar,” Alex chuckled at the child’s display. “Logan’s sick. He’s back in the UK.”

“See, Oscar. I told you Logan isn’t here today.” Carlos tried to nudge Oscar away from the door. “Now come on, it’s almost time for your nap. You’ll see Logan when he’s better.”

“No.” Oscar shook his head. “Lo. Lo play!”

“Oscar…” Carlos sighed.

“Logan didn’t want you to get sick to.” Alex bent down and explained to Oscar, who was near tears and really needed a nap. “How about you go take a nap and enjoy the race later? That way you can tell Logan about it.”

Oscar pondered for a moment. His eyes still glassy and his cheeks flushed red. He looked down at the orange McLaren Senna toy car in his hand before holding it up for Alex to see.

“Use car?”

“Yeah, you can use your cars to show Logan the race later, okay?”

Oscar paused for a moment before looking at the empty, Logan-less space around him and nodded. “Okay.”

Stuffing the car into his pocket and turned around and held his arms out to Carlos. “Nap time please.”

Carlos mouthed a “thank you” before picking Oscar up and carrying off to his nap.

“Bye. Bye.” Oscar gave a sad little wave to Alex as he was being carried off. The orange McLaren and the blue Ferrari rested in his pocket, ready to be stand-ins for the Williams and McLaren when Oscar recounts the race to Logan next week.
