Portugal
Request - Joe goes to Portugal for a vacation and he meets Y/N.
Warnings - Smut (intercourse)
A/N - just wanted to make a fanfic with my country! Enjoy!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Joe, quarterback for the Bengals in the NFL, had been feeling the itch to get away from it all. The constant pressure of performing on the field, the endless stream of fans and media, the never-ending demands on his time. He needed a break, a chance to recharge his batteries and just be himself. So, he decided to do something drastic: he booked a one-way ticket to Portugal.
With his trusty travel guide in hand, Joe set off to explore the cobblestone streets of Lisbon, marveling at the city's stunning architecture and vibrant culture. One afternoon, while wandering aimlessly, he stumbled upon a soccer game being played at the Estádio José Alvalade. The game featured Sporting CP, one of the most successful teams in Portugal, and the energy in the air was palpable.
As he watched the players on the field, a familiar face caught his eye. There, leading the team as captain, was Y/N, a woman with long, flowing hair and legs that seemed to go on forever. The way she moved with grace and power, the way she shouted instructions to her teammates, it was clear that she was the heart and soul of the team. And to Joe, she was absolutely irresistible.
After the game, Joe mustered up the courage to approach Y/N as she was leaving the field. He introduced himself in his broken Portuguese, complimenting her on her skills and her leadership. To his surprise, she smiled warmly and seemed genuinely flattered. They exchanged numbers, and before he knew it, they were texting each other constantly, meeting up for dinner and attending local events together.
The more time they spent together, the more Joe became infatuated with her. Not just her beauty or her skill on the field, but also her charisma and her passion for life. He found himself unable to resist her sexy Portuguese accent when she would correct her teammates or shout encouragement to her friends. And when she gave him her jersey as a gift, he felt a thrill run through him that he hadn't experienced in years.
One evening, as they were enjoying dinner at his newly purchased home in Lisbon, Joe couldn't help but ask Y/N if she'd ever like to cook for him. She hesitated for a moment, but then smiled shyly and agreed. The next day, she arrived at his house carrying a basket of fresh ingredients and a mischievous glint in her eye. As she prepared a traditional Portuguese dish for him, Joe couldn't help but wonder what else she might have in store.
When she finally presented him with the meal, Y/N stepped back and revealed that she was wearing a stunning, all-white dress that showed off her perfect figure, including her toned legs and her perky breasts. The look in her eyes told him everything he needed to know. She wanted him. And tonight, she was going to make him feel wanted too.
As they sat down at the table, Joe couldn't help but wonder if this was all some kind of dream. Y/N was everything he had ever wanted in a woman, and the way she moved around the kitchen, serving him her delicious dinner, was enough to drive any man wild. They ate in silence at first, lost in their own thoughts, but eventually, they couldn't help but begin to talk. They talked about their lives, their families, their passions. And as they did, Joe felt a deep connection forming between them.
When dinner was finished, Y/N cleared the table and asked if he'd like some dessert. He nodded eagerly, his heart already racing with anticipation. She returned a moment later with a small platter bearing a decadent chocolate torte and two forks. As they sat down on the couch, she placed the platter between them and leaned in close, her breath tickling his ear. "This is my favorite dessert," she whispered. "I hope you like it."
Joe could feel the heat from her body as she sat so close to him, and the sweet aroma of the chocolate made his mouth water. He watched as she picked up her fork, the silverware clinking softly against each other, and took a small bite. Her lips curved into a satisfied smile as she chewed, and he found himself unable to look away.
When she finally offered him a bite, he took it greedily, their fingers brushing against each other as he brought the fork to his mouth. The chocolate melted on his tongue, releasing a rush of rich flavors that left him speechless. They ate in silence for a moment, savoring the sweetness and the intimacy of the moment.
"It's delicious," he finally managed to say, his voice barely above a whisper. "You really are an amazing cook." She smiled at him again, her eyes sparkling with happiness. "Thank you for enjoying it," she replied softly, her accent sending shivers down his spine.
The air between them felt charged with desire, and Joe knew that he couldn't resist her any longer. He reached out and took her hand in his, their fingers entwining as he leaned in to kiss her. She responded eagerly, her lips parting beneath his, and he felt the familiar heat of her breath as she moaned softly against his mouth. Their tongues danced together, a slow and sensual waltz that left him breathless.
As their kiss deepened, Y/N shifted in his lap, her body pressing against his. He could feel the softness of her breast against his chest, the warmth of her skin radiating through the thin fabric of her dress. His hands moved up to cup her face, his thumbs brushing across her cheekbones as he explored the contours of her jawline. She arched her back slightly, grinding her hips against him, and he knew that she wanted more.
He broke the kiss, needing air for a moment as he gazed into her eyes. They were bright with desire, and he could see the passion burning deep within her. "Tell me what you want," he whispered, his voice thick with lust. "Tell me what you need." She smiled at him, her lips curving into a wicked little smile. "I need you," she breathed, her fingers trailing down his chest, "to make love to me."
The words sent a shiver through him, and he leaned in to kiss her again, more roughly this time. His hands moved down her body, unbuttoning her dress and revealing her perfect skin beneath. She moaned as he explored her curves, and he felt her hands fumbling with his belt, unbuckling it and lowering his pants. He stood up, kicking off his shoes, and she climbed up onto her knees, straddling him.
The feel of her warm, wet folds against his erection sent a wave of desire coursing through him. He grasped her hips, pulling her down so that he could feel the full weight of her body on him. She arched her back, her breasts spilling free from her dress, and he reached up to cup one in his hand, rolling the hardened peak between his thumb and forefinger. She cried out, her head thrown back in ecstasy, and he could feel her body trembling beneath him.
He thrust upward, feeling the hot, tight grip of her body as she enveloped him, and the sensation was almost too much to bear. He could feel himself on the edge, ready to release, but he wanted this to last. He slowed his movements, taking his time, savoring the feel of her body moving against his. She looked down at him, her eyes half-closed, and smiled, her breath coming in ragged gasps. "Oh, Joe," she murmured, her voice barely audible over the sound of their passionate lovemaking. "You feel so good."
He smiled back at her, feeling a sense of connection that went beyond anything he'd ever experienced before. He wanted this night to last forever, but as the tension built within him, he knew that it was only a matter of time before he lost control. With one final thrust, he felt the release wash over him, his body tensing as he emptied himself into her. She cried out his name, her body tensing around him in a wave of ecstasy, and as they came together in their shared climax, he knew that he had found something truly special.
They lay there for a moment, their chests heaving as they caught their breath. She leaned forward, her head resting on his shoulder, and he wrapped his arms around her, holding her close. He could feel the warmth of her skin, the softness of her hair, the gentle rise and fall of her chest as she breathed. He couldn't remember the last time he had felt this content, this at peace.
As their hearts slowed and their bodies cooled, they heard the faint sound of laughter from the living room. The party was still going strong, but for a moment, it seemed as if the world outside didn't exist. It was just the two of them, lost in each other's embrace. She turned her head to look up at him, her eyes filled with love and affection. "Thank you for the most wonderful evening," she whispered.
He smiled down at her, a lopsided grin that spoke of the happiness he felt. "You're welcome," he replied. "But really, I should be thanking you." She laughed softly, her breath tickling his skin. "Why is that?" she asked, her voice teasing. "Because you made me the happiest man alive tonight." His words were simple, but they carried the weight of truth. She leaned in, pressing her lips against his once more, a gentle kiss that sealed their connection for the night.
As the minutes ticked by, they lay there in silence, basking in the afterglow of their passion. Joe couldn't help but wonder where this night would lead them, but for now, he was content to enjoy the moment and the incredible woman who had shared it with him.
He rolled onto his side, propping himself up on one elbow to get a better look at her. Her skin glowed in the soft light from the fireplace, and her hair spilled across the pillow like a waterfall of black silk. He traced his fingers along the curve of her jaw, feeling the gentle stubble against his skin. "You're beautiful," he whispered, and she blushed, her cheeks flushing a deeper shade of red.
She reached up, entwining her fingers with his, giving his hand a squeeze. "Thank you," she said softly. "I've never felt this way about anyone before. It's... it's a little overwhelming." He smiled, feeling the warmth of her palm against his. "Don't worry," he reassured her. "I'm not going anywhere. I want to explore this with you, get to know you better."
Her eyes met his, and in them he saw a mix of hope and uncertainty. "You're serious?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "You don't just want this one night?" He leaned in, pressing a tender kiss to her lips. "I've never been more serious about anything in my life," he whispered against her mouth. "I want to see where this goes. I want to see where you go."
She smiled, a genuine, heartfelt smile that lit up her entire face. "Then I think," she said, taking his hand and leading it lower, "we should go to bed." Together they climbed beneath the covers, their bodies tangled and entwined. As they lay there, she traced the lines of his face with her fingertips, as if committing every detail to memory. "I feel like I've known you for a lifetime," she murmured. "And yet, I also feel like there's so much more to learn."
He pulled her closer, burying his face in her neck. "I feel the same way," he confessed. "But I promise you, tonight was just the beginning. I'm not going anywhere." She sighed contentedly, her body relaxing against his. "Good," she said, her voice muffled by the pillow. "Because I have a feeling this is going to be one hell of a ride." And as they drifted off to sleep, he knew she was right. This was just the beginning, and he couldn't wait to see where the journey would take them.

Obi-Wan is Korkie's father.
Obi-Wan is there the evening Satine flings her blaster off the edge of a waterfall with a bloodcurdling scream, standing three paces behind her and one step to the side as tears stream down her face. She swears on the blood of every child from the village that was slaughtered for daring to hide her—the violence will end. He does not miss the way her arms wrap around her middle, or the sparks of secondary light that have been flickering within her for weeks, and he knows why she is making this vow.
-
Obi-Wan is there the morning Satine stumbles out of camp with a crash, barely making it to the bushes before vomiting out the contents of her stomach. He follows her and kneels at her side, rubbing soft circles along her back and soothing away the nausea with the Force as much as he can.
“I'm pregnant,” Satine whispers.
“I know,” Obi-Wan whispers back.
-
Obi-Wan is there when they are trekking mile after mile, following Master Qui-Gon's Force-guided lead. He lets Satine take his arm to support herself when she gets dizzy, and gently reminds his slightly scatterbrained Master of their ever-more-frequent needs to stop and rest for a moment.
-
Obi-Wan is there for Satine to argue with, when the pressures and fears get too much. They argue about politics and about economics and about color symbolism in traditional art and about whether or not "Korkie" is a ridiculous name. At the end of the day, it never means much, and it seems to fray at Master Qui-Gon's nerves, but on the days when Satine takes the bait and dives into the argument, she always seems to sleep better.
-
Obi-Wan is there the afternoon at the riverside when it is just the two of them, and she finally cracks, the whole story spilling out. All he can do is fold her up in his arms and let her rage into his chest.
-
Obi-Wan is there when Satine freezes mid-pace, eyes huge. He is about to ask what's wrong, and Master Qui-Gon is looking around, casting out with his presence to find any danger, but then Satine grabs him by the wrist, painfully tight, and presses his hand to her swollen belly to feel the baby kick.
-
Obi-Wan is there the day they stumble upon a nest of venom-mites, and Satine is several months too pregnant to run. He snatches her up in his arms and sprints, following hot on Master Qui-Gon's heels. They escape, but only after he trips and falls, dumping them both unceremoniously on the ground and leaving a nasty gash on her arm. Obi-Wan apologizes. Satine brushes him off and demands he help her up. Her temper has been growing with her stomach.
-
Obi-Wan is there the day Korkie is born. He and Master Qui-Gon sit with Satine, letting her squeeze their hands until Obi-Wan thinks his is going to break and trying to soothe her pain with the Force. She clenches her jaw and does not scream, not even once—the bounty hunters have been getting too close for comfort. They cannot give themselves away.
-
Obi-Wan is the one to put the whimpering baby into her arms, wrapping the child in his own cloak. Satine is ghastly pale and shaking and Master Qui-Gon has a look in his eyes that Obi-Wan cannot quite decipher. He wonders how much the older Jedi knows.
-
Obi-Wan is there on the sleepless nights, when the baby is crying out for attention, and he is the one to pick the wailing child up as often as Satine is, humming soft songs he remembers from his days in the creche.
-
Obi-Wan is there to sit in gentle silence with the young mother through the early hours of the morning, draping his cloak around her so she can nurse the hungry boy in whatever little privacy she can get. More than once, they doze off together with Korkie between them, quiet and happy.
-
“I'm going to raise him as my nephew,” Satine sniffs one night, when she is too tired and worn down to do anything but weep silently over everyone she has lost.
“Not as your son?”
She looks up at him with a sigh that is too exhaused to be a laugh. “I have spent months on the run with a red-haired, blue-eyed Jedi Padawan. Can you imagine the speculations?”
-
Obi-Wan is not there when Korkie, ten years old, asks Satine if she's really his mother, and she softly admits that she is. She tells him a few things—when he was born, some of the reasons why she raised him as her nephew—but it is not those things that he wants to know.
“What about my father?” he asks.
The man who shares Korkie's blood is long dead, killed in the war, and never worthy of being called a father in the first place.
But family is more than blood, and in Satine's heart, the truth is fixed and firm.
“He was a wonderful man.” Slowly, sadly, Satine smiles to herself, dropping a kiss on the boy's forehead. “I hope you can meet him, someday.”
Obi-Wan is Korkie's father.

I wrote a little clip based between "Tinker Bell" and "Great Fairy Rescue" and I wanted to show everyone how it fits into a book entirely unrelated (kind of)
It had been right after her daring plan to reverse the disaster she had caused; restoring the balance of nature and setting the preparations for Spring back on kilter. Merely days after, actually. It was much too soon for anyone to make any kind of rash decisions that could alter the traditions and methodology of the Hollow.
Tinkers did not go to the mainland. It wasn't because they couldn't; but rather, perhaps, because they shouldn't.
It was not a journey to be taken lightly. Humans were not safe; nor predictable. They did not think nor reason in the way that a fairy did. Things that appeared so simple for fairies were not so black and white for the very beings created to maintain the mainland and tinkers were much too curious for their own good. It would take them no time at all to get into something dangerous.
Or something deadly.
Which was why Bobble was so shocked when Queen Clarion came to the workshop one breezy afternoon to inform him and Clank that Tinker Bell would be allowed to travel with the nature fairies. "She has a unique spark about her," Clarion had explained to the two flabbergasted sparrowmen. "One that I think would serve her well on the mainland."
However, she went on. This was still Tink they were talking about and not only was she the most reckless of fairies to ever arrive in the Hollow; she had only been there a few weeks! There were other tinkers, like himself and Clank, who had been there longer, who were much more experienced, why on earth would Queen Clarion want to take such a big risk on Tink this early?
"Yer Highness!" he blurted before he knew what he was saying, setting down his tools and the acorn cap he had been fighting with for the past five minutes."What are ye sayin'? Yer actually lettin' Tink go to the mainland alone?" Don't you think that's a bad idea? Don't you think something might happen to her? She wasn't going to just linger around the camp minding her own business and waiting for something to break down! This was Tinker Bell! It would be a blooming miracle if she didn't somehow manage to start WWII in a day!
But there was something else there too, something the Queen wasn't saying. He didn't know what it was right away, but he knew it was important; and by the way she wasn't saying anything further, he guessed it had to do with his "other abilities" and she wasn't about to say anything with other fairies mulling about.
"Hey, Clanky," he went on, catching on to Clarion's reluctance.
"Yeah, Bobble?" Clank asked from around a mound of baskets.
"I think I forgot somethin' over by the stream earlier while we were helpin' Lucinda with her workload. Do ye think ye could run and fetch that real quick?  I'll tidy up around here if ye do."
"Sure!" the bigger sparrowman said cheerfully, and Bobble was once again grateful for his lack of suspicion.
The moment Clank was gone, the Queen's demeanor changed instantly. She fluttered to the ground and drew up a chair, gesturing for Bobble to do the same. "Have a seat," she said kindly and he obeyed, hopping up onto a toadstool, staring at her in worry.
"Have I...done somethin' wron'?" he asked immediately. He thought back as far as he could, but he couldn't think of anything recently that would have warranted the Queen coming to visit him personally.
Unless she holds me accountable for Tink's actions with the spring preparations.
An icy bucket of fear danced his spine. That was it, wasn't it? It had been his fault. He had been the one to take Tink under his wing. Yes, Clank had been there, but who had been the one guiding Tink since she first arrived? Who had been the one to teach her everything he knew?
Who had been the one who had known she wanted to go to the mainland and hadn't said a word?
"I...I shoulda told her not to push so hard," Bobble stammered, spluttering out words before the Queen could speak. "But she's just so... so determined, ye know? I thought—well, I thought if I tried to hold her back, she'd only find a way to slip past me anyway and--"
"Phineas, it's okay," Queen Clarion interrupted before his trainwreck could finish derailing. "You've done nothing wrong. In fact, I daresay you've done the best out of everyone."
He frowned. "Yer Highness?"
"Tinker Bell has a job to do in the mainland this year," she went on, folding her hands calmly and waiting while the scrambled puzzle pieces tried to fall into place. "Just as she did in the spring. You did nothing wrong. Neither did Clank. I know you were both looking out for her best interests. Both of you are the reason she is able to go now with the arrival of summer."
"So...yer just goin' to send her to the mainland alone?"
Queen Clarion smiled gently, shaking her head. "Not alone, Bobble. I would never send her without someone I knew I could trust to watch out for her. The nature fairies will be busy bringing in the new season, so they will have little time to assist her with her quest."
Bobble furrowed his brow. "Then...who's going with her?"
Clarion's eyes softened, her expression full of wisdom and warmth. "You are," she said simply.

The Final Pillar: Chapter 5: A Flint to Roast Sweet Potatoes
Disclaimer
Masterpost
Chapter 4
AO3 Link
Chapter Summary
Rengoku proves to be bad at fishing, but is, unsurprisingly, a good listener.
Contents
Lots of fluff. Author likes to run on headcannons and conjecture.
Tumblr media
Kagome's lungs heaved against her ribcage, while her senpai smiled at her unfazed. She remembered back to the afternoon where she agreed to join Rengoku and thought of nothing but regret.
'You did an excellent job keeping up with me, Kagome-kun,' he spoke, 'I can see that your ascension into our ranks was well deserved indeed!'
Keep up? That was supposed to be an exercise to keep up?
'Senpai,' her breathing came as wheezes, 'Did anyone tell you that you're verifiably insane for creating such a regiment?'
Kyojuro's smile widened. This was the first time Kagome said something since their departure. They now stood at a clearing, which he'd decided was as good as any for a spar.
'Well, now that you mention it, that could explain why I never have so much luck with finding a tsuguko!' He laughed. 'However, if one is to embark on our joint mission to defeat Muzan and his demons, they would have to prepare for it with their whole being!'
The wheezing managed to calm down into deep pants, 'I suppose that makes sense, senpai,' she said, pulling herself up slowly from her hunched position, 'I'm still new to being a hashira, so I'm not sure if all of us are somehow expected to have a tsuguko at some point.'
The Flame Hashira took a few seconds to process the girl's words. 'At the moment, Kocho-san is the only one of us to have a confirmed tsuguko, which makes me jealous!' He boomed, 'Although I inherited the role of hashira on my own, I had to take the initiative to replace my father when it was needed!'
Kagome considered Rengoku's response, unsure of whether or not Nightmare Breathing was something she'd be able to, or even want to, pass down to future generations of the Corps. Flame Breathing, from the sounds of it, seemed like to be akin to more of a tradition of sorts, and its potential loss would be a shame among the pillars.
'I'm sure that, one day, you will be able to find such a successor in the future,' she said.
Kyojuro felt the corners of his jaw slacken slightly, the warmth of the growing appreciation for his kouhai blooming in his chest. 'How about we take a break? Just so you know, you gave me a hard time too, during our spar!'
--
He was able to identify the nearest stream of water for fishing, and Kagome managed to supply a rod, line and hook from her satchel. It now sat on the browning grass, its tanned leather sagging at the sides.
When he spoke to her, Kyojuro was honest about escaping the crowd once in a while. While he enjoyed socialising as much as the next human being, it felt nice reconnecting with nature, feeling the tranquil, moist air from where he was sitting. He could see his kouhai gathering branches and leaves from the ground so it could later be fuel for a campfire; the only thing left to do was to use the flint.
Feeling his glance upon her, she turned around, 'Any luck, senpai?'
'Not so much luck, I'm afraid! Whatever fish that are in this river seem to be avoiding us at the moment,' he chuckled. His line remained unbudging, the bait of dried chicken at the end still untouched.
She shifted, sitting next to him with her palm open, 'Shall I try?'
Nodding, he passed the fishing rod over. The brunette shifted closer to the edge of the riverbank, the hands holding the rod outstretched closer towards the middle of the body of water. Her surrounding energy became calmer, muted in a way so that it blended into their environment. Dangling the fishing line up and down, there was a visible tug at the end of the rod.
In awe, Kyojuro watched as one fish was caught and placed on the ground next to him. The poor thing was flopping up and down helplessly, but before she returned for another round of catching more of its brethren, she decisively hit it on its spine using her knife.
The one fish, who'd succumbed to its fate, was soon joined by five others. They were all quite sizeable for fish in the area, which impressed him. Without pausing, the same knife was used to gut them, deft hands demonstrating the well practised motions of someone who'd grown used to spending time on her own.
Kagome proceeded to toss their entrails over to the birds, to which their crows also partook in the offer of a meal. She cleaned their bodies thoroughly in the same body of water, until the red stains upon their white flesh disappeared into the river. The brunette grabbed the pointed bamboo sticks from her bag, and then skewered each and every last one of the fish, the protein for their evening meal now sorted.
His kouhai returned, for another time, to the satchel she left with him, and withdrew her flint and two sweet potatoes.
'Will these suffice, senpai?' She asked.
Tilting his head with a smile, he couldn't help but glance at the gaping mouth of her bag. There was a noticeable abundance of the spuds, their bumpy, purple exteriors bundled together in a netted bag of sorts.
'Do you like these, Kagome-kun?' He tried to stifle his surprised chortle at the girl's apparent collection.
She took a moment to pause, the gears shifting in her brain over the man's words, before the light of realisation dawned in her brown irises. Blushing from left cheek to right cheek, she considered them, as if they were a strange kind of arithmetic. To her, 'like' was a strange word, and in her world as of lately, it wasn't something she'd had much of the opportunity to consider; there were more things in the world that she didn't like.
Rengoku waited patiently for her answer, his ochre eyes glimmering from his evident amusement. It was embarrassing, she griped, as he was witnessing her become so undone by such a simple question. There was something in his nature that reminded her of Shizu, who seemed to know what to do and what to say to have let her guard down.
Still feeling the heat in her face, as if the flame-haired man were the sun itself, she stammered, 'I... I suppose... I like them more than other types of food.'
His chuckling was breathed out, as if it were a sigh, 'I see we share similar tastes in vegetables as well! Did you know that my favourite food is miso soup with sweet potatoes?'
Getting around to light the campfire, she shook her head. Shizu was a different person, much more dramatic, but there was enough of a similarity between them that she felt like she was talking to his echo. 'I've never heard of miso and sweet potato used in the same soup before,' she said, 'Is it like when you have slices of carrot sometimes in a donburi set?'
He nodded enthusiastically, 'The sweet potato is cut up and cooked with the rest of the ingredients,' he responded. 'If you ever get the chance, I suggest you try it! It's delicious!'
'I will. Thanks for the suggestion, senpai,' she responded. She placed the potatoes into the fire, while the fish skewers were dug into the earth where they were planted, surrounding the flame. 'I realise that there's much to know about you and the rest of the hashira. I'm not sure if our first meeting left a good first impression on everyone back at Oyakata-sama's estate.'
Rengoku placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder as she sat down, 'You can ask me anything while we're here, Kagome-kun, and I'll try my best to answer as honestly as possible.'
She considered it, while staring at how the flames licked at their fish. 'I'm sure being a half-demon was a shock to you and the others.'
With a hum, Kyojuro thought about that afternoon at the estate. If he recalled, his main priority was to hear his young colleague state her piece before coming to a conclusion. She seemed nervous, the wobbling at the knees a sign of any daunted, new hashira. However, she stood her ground, even when distressed at the goading of Shinazugawa.
'I've decided to trust in Oyakata-sama's decision, and I've yet to see anything suspicious from you. Though I can't promise that the other hashira won't have their own doubts,' he began, his face a calm, contemplative expression. 'When you're in the role of a pillar for so long, it's difficult to see a different perspective. Our organisation has lost so many, and trust, while needed, is difficult to encourage without evidence.'
Kagome listened intently, the young girl's ears twitching, hanging onto every word in his answer. She finally nodded, the glow of the fire highlighting the resoluteness in her countenance.
'You might struggle at first, but I have no doubt that you will do yourself proud, Kagome-kun!'
She blinked, another slayer's confidence in her foreign sensation, 'I meant what I said, you know, back then.'
'What you said...?' Oh, he recalled that incident with a laugh, 'I'm sure any of us would oblige if this is the duty that befalls us, but you have survived this long as a human being, and I will pray that you will live what remains of your life enjoying your existence as one
She stayed silent for a while, only moving to roll the potatoes over with a stick. Picking up a skewer, she offered to Kyojuro, who picked it from her hands.
'Delicious!' He cried, the first bite taken hungrily.
'I wasn't there for that trial in that afternoon, either, but I managed to overhear some of it. Will there really be a demon helping us in the Corps?'
'Ah! Tanjiro Kamado and his sister Nezuko, I believe! It's a similar case to yours, I'd say!' He boomed. 'They'll be working hard to find the Twelve Kizuki, to earn our acknowledgement!'
Her knuckles turned whiter as her left hand fisted the ground tightly. Despite her attempt at stoicism, she could not help but have some of her disdain seep into the irises of her eyes. 'I find that difficult to conceive,' she said flatly, relenting on her hold over the earth, 'But I can understand why Oyakata-sama decided to introduce me afterwards. It would've been much easier to deal with a half-demon, knowing that a trial with a full one went well... I don't doubt that things would've been different if I were introduced first...'
Kyojuro noticed, with a small pang, the tinge of sadness that crept into her small voice. Despite the strength she'd demonstrated earlier in the day, he realised the Kagome was still the adolescent she appeared to be. She was awkward and insecure, but her vulnerability was sincere. She looked tinier than she did during their spar, and his mind resolved to support her in whatever way he could.
'For now, let's talk about more positive topics,' he said, interrupting her reverie with a jolt. 'Did I see any Nightmare techniques from our spar today?'
Kagome nodded in confirmation. 'A few of them, but not all of them can be replicated in a spar,' she answered, 'There are times, though, when I am trying to modify and change my forms to suit different situations, so hopefully fighting with you has been productive.'
'So, some of your moves were experiments? Count me impressed,' he stated. 'I've sparred against many breathing styles throughout my time in the Corps, the newer ones never cease to amaze me!'
She passed Rengoku another fish, flushing at the compliment, 'Do you have any siblings?'
He smiled at that question, taking a bite out of his skewer, 'I have a younger brother, Senjuro. He's fourteen... about your age, I think?'
'I'll be turning turning fifteen in November,' she confirmed. 'Is he similar to you in some ways?'
'That's pretty soon,' he was almost finished with his fish, and so Kagome handed him another one almost seamlessly. Delicious! 'Senjuro... he's only like me in appearance,' he started, his voice soft, 'Personality wise, you'd be a closer fit to him. He's quiet, and shy, but works hard to make people proud of him. I worry about him at times... I worry... that sometimes he sacrifices himself to make others happy... I suppose other older brothers might feel that way at times!'
This time, he passed a fish to Kagome, who accepted it quietly, 'When's your birthday? Do you have any siblings of your own?'
'My birthday...? On the 21st,' she gingerly took a bite and chewed. 'I don't really have much of a family,' she answered initially, 'But there was someone who I thought of like an older brother, once.'
Taking a chance for it, Kyojuro grabbed at the sweet potatoes and passed one to his kouhai. She returned to staring at the fire, the brightness of the flames giving light to the yearning in her eyes. He reflected on the fact that, all things considered, he was one of the lucky ones who still had living family members.
Peeling the skin off, he bit into it and savoured its sweetness, his customary shout present in the air.
'You can tell me about him!' he suggested.
The brunette swallowed thickly, the meat from her skewer having disappeared from sight. There was a small smile that ghosted her lips, before it disappeared without ceremony. With a slight inhale, she opened her mouth, about to speak.

Explore The Great Outdoors
Tumblr media
Every day is a good day when its being spent in the Desolation Wilderness. The outdoor photo above is the march up the trail to Lake Aloha (heading up to it from Heather and Susie Lakes located just to the East of Lake Aloha and lower in elevation).
Lake Aloha
Here's the expansive view across the lake. You can't make it out, but to give some perspective, South Lake Tahoe sits in the far distance (under the "thunderhead" cumulonimbus cloud to the left in the photo). Trust me, pictures don't do this open space justice.
Tumblr media
Hikers And Backpackers - Be Prepared!
If you've never been here before, it's a place you want to go. Whether you are a backpacker looking to stay overnight or a day hiker wanting to explore, rugged beauty will be found throughout the Desolation Wilderness in the expansive Sierra Nevada mountain range.
Keep in mind, if you haven't spent much time in the outdoors, these hikes can be moderate in intensity, so make sure you are prepared.
Water and snacks are a must. Bring close you can peel off and quickly throw back on.
Temperatures vary throughout the year and the one constant is that the weather is always changing. Afternoon thunderstorms are a regular occurrence during the summer (which can lead to strong winds, thunder, lightning, hail, and brief heavy rains).
It's not likely you'll find yourself getting snowed on during the summer months (when the trails are typically fully open and accessible after the spring snow melt), but these elevations are pushing 7,000 - 10,000 feet plus, so it can never be ruled out. By all means, you'll run into patches of snow. Fun for the kids as they don't expect to get treated to a snowball fight during the summer!
Backpacking With Your Companion!
Going with your best companion is a must too, but make sure the trails are dog friendly. Bring plenty of food and water for them too.
Even though water is everywhere (you don't need to worry about treating their water like we need to do ours!), there are desolate areas along these trails where you'll find they need a drink on the longer, hotter, days.
Tumblr media
Best Backpacking Shoe
For the best footwear, I transitioned from traditional hiking boots to the Altra Lone Peak. It's labeled as a "running shoe", but I use them for day hikes and backpacking.
The open toe box lends towards a wider shoe up at our toes. Don't think it makes a big difference? It does! No more bruised pinky toe because your toes are so scrunched in that narrow hiking boot you've been wearing.
They're so light weight they relieve stress on your legs too, so there's more fuel in the tank when you get to where you're going and you feel better when you get there. I'm 48, so I feel it from time to time!
They grip. There's a ton of loose chunk rock in the Desolation Wilderness, along with a lot of granite slab, so the inner sole rock guard blunts the sharp edges with each step and the grippiness keeps you on your feet.
They're not waterproof and that's actually a feature! They don't trap water on your feet like a traditional waterproof hiking shoe will after you miscalculated the stream crossing and got water in them, so your feet don't stay waterlogged. They dry out remarkably quick, so with the right pair of wicking socks, there's no need to shy away or worry about any water you encounter. It's truly unreal and was totally unexpected.
Tumblr media
The only "slight" negative with these backpacking shoes is that you don't get the ankle support found in high top hiking boots, so there are times you feel like you're going to slip out of your shoes. This is mostly mental. However, if you don't have strong ankles, work these new hiking boots in. Make the long treks in your traditional hiking boots and trade off to these for your day excursions. The Altra's break in quickly, but you want to make sure you can handle the change.
Again, there's more than a lot to like about Altra's hiking shoe! They've made all the difference in the world for me and I'm glad I learned about them after stumbling across Jessica "Dixie" Mills online.
To find out more about her backpacking journeys check out her blog at Homemade Wanderlust - she's got a wealth of knowledge when it comes to all things backpacking and has through-hiked the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail), CDT (Continental Divide Trail), and the Appalachian Trail (just to name a few of her major accomplishments).
Cheers to exploring Lake Aloha and the great outdoors. It does wonders for the mind and body, so get out there!

Tumblr media
Ayurveda, the ancient system of healing, is more than just medicine—it’s a way of life that brings balance to body, mind, and spirit. Imagine stepping into a serene retreat where every moment is crafted to promote holistic well-being. That’s the essence of a day at the best Ayurvedic resort in Kerala. From rejuvenating therapies to nourishing meals, each part of the day is a step toward deeper healing and relaxation.
Here’s what your day might look like:
Morning Routine: Awakening with Nature
6:00 AM – Rise with the Sun
Your day begins with the soft sounds of birds chirping and the first rays of sunlight peeking over lush greenery. At the resort, we believe in syncing with nature’s rhythm. Guests are gently woken early to begin their journey with a fresh start. The first ritual? A warm glass of herbal-infused water or lemon water to awaken the digestive system.
Why this matters: In Ayurveda, starting the day with hydration stimulates digestion and clears out toxins.
6:30 AM – Yoga and Meditation
Imagine stepping out into nature, the morning air crisp and cool. A yoga session awaits, focused on gentle postures that improve flexibility and prepare your body for the day ahead. This is followed by a peaceful meditation to center your thoughts and calm your mind. Whether you’re by a river, surrounded by trees, or in a tranquil yoga studio, this moment of mindfulness sets a serene tone for the day.
Did you know? Yoga and meditation not only improve physical health but also reduce stress, improve focus, and enhance overall emotional balance.
Ayurvedic Breakfast: A Healthy Start
8:00 AM – Nourishment for Body and Soul
Breakfast at an Ayurvedic resort is no ordinary meal. It’s a personalized feast tailored to your dosha (body type). You might enjoy spiced oatmeal, fresh seasonal fruits, herbal teas, or traditional Kerala dishes like idlis with chutney. Each dish is crafted with locally sourced ingredients and prepared to provide you with the energy and nourishment you need for the day.
Tip: The goal of Ayurvedic meals is to balance your internal energies, leaving you feeling light and energized.
Mid-Morning: Healing Begins
9:00 AM – Consultation with Ayurvedic Experts
After breakfast, it’s time to meet with experienced Ayurvedic practitioners. A personal consultation helps assess your unique dosha and health concerns. This leads to a customized treatment plan just for you, including therapies, diet, and lifestyle suggestions to help restore balance and vitality.
10:30 AM – Therapeutic Treatments
Now, you enter the heart of Ayurveda—its healing therapies. Whether it’s an Abhyanga (full-body oil massage), Shirodhara (steady stream of oil on the forehead), or Pindasveda (herbal bolus massage), these treatments work to detoxify and rejuvenate the body. Every therapy is tailored to your specific needs, ensuring a deeply relaxing and therapeutic experience.
Why Ayurveda? These treatments not only relieve physical discomfort but also promote mental clarity and emotional balance.
Afternoon: Time to Unwind
12:30 PM – Ayurvedic Lunch
Lunch is a mindful affair at the best Ayurvedic resort in Kerala. Picture a colorful spread of khichdi, freshly cooked vegetables, and dosha-specific desserts. Each bite is designed to promote digestion and balance. A refreshing buttermilk drink or a digestive herbal tea often accompanies the meal.
Fun fact: According to Ayurveda, lunch is the most important meal of the day when your digestive fire is at its peak!
2:00 PM – Rest and Digest
After lunch, it’s time for a well-deserved break. Rest is essential in Ayurveda, allowing the body to process food and heal. This is your time to journal, read a book, or simply relax in nature.
What to do? A gentle stroll through the resort's gardens or a nap in a hammock might be just what your body needs.
Evening: Rejuvenation Continues
4:00 PM – Workshops on Ayurveda
Curious to learn more about Ayurveda? The resort hosts engaging workshops where you can discover Ayurvedic practices, herbal remedies, and tips for holistic living. Whether you’re a beginner or a wellness enthusiast, these sessions are full of practical advice to take home.
6:00 PM – Sunset Yoga
As the sun dips below the horizon, it’s time for another round of yoga. This session focuses on gentle stretches and breathing exercises to release any tension that’s built up throughout the day. The soft light of the setting sun makes this a truly magical experience.
Dinner and Night Routine: Wind Down with Care
7:30 PM – Light Ayurvedic Dinner
Dinner is intentionally light and easy to digest. You might be served vegetable soup, steamed greens, or a wholesome grain dish—all designed to help your body prepare for restful sleep. A calming herbal tea rounds off the meal.
Did you know? Eating light in the evening aids in digestion and promotes better sleep, one of the key pillars of good health in Ayurveda.
9:00 PM – Reflection and Gratitude
As the day comes to an end, guests gather to reflect on their experiences, share their thoughts, and express gratitude. This simple yet powerful practice fosters a sense of community and inner peace.
10:00 PM – Restorative Sleep
Finally, you retire to your peaceful room, where everything—from the linens to the air—invites relaxation. A soothing herbal bath or calming meditation may be recommended to ease you into a deep, restful sleep, in line with Ayurvedic wisdom.

Seoul, Korea (2022)
Dates: 25th November 2022 to 2nd December 2022
TRANSPORT
ICN Airport to City: 45 min Express Train from ICN to Seoul Station. About S$9.
Seoul Station to CBD area (Eujiro 2 or Cheonggyecheon stream): Cab- about S$8- 9.
Travel within city: All cabs to places from CBD: S$8 to S$22. Furthest being Gangnam.
Google the desired location, click its Google Map. Find Korean words below photos at Google Map. Audio playback Korean words to cab drivers (most don’t know English). Or, copy Korean address, then find in Naver app for bus/ subway/ walk options.
Get transport card from any CU (their 7-11) store. Can be used on buses and subway trains. STAY
Where to stay:  from orientation and observations done in this trip, these two areas are ideal.
 1. Somewhere along Cheonggyecheon Stream between Euljiro 1 and 3 stations.  CBD.  Eg Lotte City Hotel Myeondong is superbly situated. Four Points Sheraton, Nine Tree Myeondong are options too.
 2. Yeonamm is a charming, alternative area. Hipster Haji-lane vibes.   Only down side - further from everything else as Yeonamm -Hongdae is in the west.  (Think Holland V) WHERE’S WHERE
The following clustering of activities and highlights is done with efficient moving-around in mind.
Cluster 1: Gyeongbokgung Palace
Cafe Onion- one of the most well-known cafes among Singaporean tourists. has a couple of branches. good pastries and aesthetic interior design. Anguk branch is in a century-old hanok. Unique place for breakfast.
Go west for 5-10 min, you will reach MCCA Seoul branch (also got other branches, so be careful when navigating), which is just across the road from Gyeongbokgung Palace.
National Museum of Modern & Contemporary Art (MCCA Seoul)- a great museum to visit if you want a break from shopping and the outdoors. relatively edgy exhibits. has a big cafe and gift shop too.
Gyeongbokgung Palace — one of the most popular tourist destinations in Seoul. A fun thing to do would be to loan traditional costumes from the nearby shops for a couple of hours, to explore the palace grounds in while taking photos. note that the palace is closed on Tuesdays. we had a good experience loaning costumes from Hanbok Girls. when done, walk to nearby restaurant Tosokchon Samgyetang, famous for ginseng chicken.
There are two Hanok villages in this area too - Bukchon (more famous) and Seochon.
About S$8 cab fare from Euljiro 3 to Onion Anguk. Cluster 2: Jongno (Ikseondong - Insadong - Pocha)
Ikseon-dong- a unique hanok village that is popular with social media influencers due to very aesthetic cafes. good for a cafe-hopping afternoon. notable cafes include: Cheong Su Dang (清水堂)and Kafe 溫 (카페 온 溫).
Walk minutes to the west, you will reach Insadong - tourist shopping street, with a youth design centre that has floors of crafts based on original IP.
Walk south and you will reach the road Donhwamum-ro 11-Gil.  Where exits 4 and 5 of Jongno 3 Station areat.  This is where there is a concentration of Pochas at night in winter, and in the alleys, a cluster of gay bars such as Bar Friends and Gnomes.
If you stay near Eujilro 1-3, all these are within walking distances.
Cluster 3: Cheonggyecheon Stream
North of Stream, between Jonggak station and Jongno 2 street is Avenue of Youth.  Noisy Ximending-like.  Lots of food though - BHC and Kyonchon fried chicken shops are here. Also, a huge orange pocha with good food!
South of Stream: Myeondong.  Myeongdong- traditionally known as a shopping area popular for cosmetic products. but many shops have closed due to the pandemic. currently worth visiting mainly to check out the street food stalls and a famous dumpling eatery named Myeongdong Kyoja, which only serves 4 dishes but is a must-visit. has 2 branches in the area.
Can also cover walk Lotte Town - a series of huge shopping malls with familiar brands like Uniqlo, Samsonite .
If you stay near Eujilro 1-3, all these are within walking distances. Cluster 4: Gwangjang Market + DDP
Gwangjang Market- a vibrant street food destination, including a couple of stalls featured on Netflix programme Street Food. come here for lunch and to check out the market stalls selling snacks and dry goods.
DDP (Dongdaemun Design Plaza)- an architectural wonder that’s one of the most recognisable landmarks in Seoul. visit to take photos of the facade, then check out the exhibition spaces and gift shop within.
If you stay near Eujilro 1-3, all these are within walking distances. Or a short cab or bus ride to the east.  Can cover both over lunch and an afternoon.   Cluster 5: Hongdae and Yeonnam
Hongdae- probably one of the best shopping areas in Seoul for youths and the young at heart. wide range of shopping options, from international brands to indie shops. good to come in the evening and stay on till night falls. many f&b offerings too. we began exploring the area from an arts complex we love named KT&G.
Yeonnam-dong- a charming area near Hongdae, with alleyways of numerous cafes, boutiques and bookshops. notable eateries include: Greem Cafe, Gosh Gosh
Yeonnam is more Haji Lane and Hongdae is more Bugis.  They are separated by Hongik University Station.
About S$10 - 15 cab fare from Eujiro 3 to Yeonamm or Hongdae. Cluster 6: Gangnam
Further south, must cross Han River. At least 20-30 min cab ride (S$18-22) from Cheonggyecheon Stream. So plan activities together to avoid travelling up and down.
Starfield Library- located within COEX mall, this aesthetic library has been a popular photo destination for years. the underground mall itself is connected to Hyundai Department Store.
Then go west to Apgujeong area for Sinsajeon Honey Comb Makgeolli. Good pancakes too.  Must visit!
The street in front of Makgeolli shop is Dosan-daero 11 Gil.  And it has CK and Gentle Monster etc. Can walk and lead you to Hyundai Departmental Main Store. Sulwhasoo flagship store is nearby too. Others
Lotte Mart next to Seoul Station- massive supermarket good for buying snacks and other gifts before flying home
Seoul Forest- more like a Botanic Gardens than an actual forest, but a good option for a walk in nature without leaving Seoul
Paradise City- a relatively new casino resort near Incheon Airport. it has a refreshing focus on modern art, and features some stunning architectural wonders. worth visiting for photo opportunities. locker service on level 3 of Incheon Airport, then free shuttle service (10min) available to get you here.
Zest- a chic bar that’s in the list of World’s 50 Best Bars 2022. Prides itself on cocktails that use Korean ingredients in a sustainable manner

Last time on our Knightly Stream…
The J-Team set out to make good on their promise to save the galaxy from endless generational war by giving an ancient Dark Side Eldrith being a stern talking to. It went about as well as anyone in touch with reality would expect.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tabbed quote "Hubris. Thy name is Jedi."
After a quick costume change, we witnessed one of the more subtle but heartbreaking cutscenes in the game.
Tumblr media
With a little help from our Guardian Angel Jedi Ghost, our little cinnamon roll was finally awakened from being an evil puppet, and then proceeded to wow everyone with her acting ability.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I am definitely a Sith. See these spikes instead of shoulderpads? They make me 500% fiercer and confirm I am evil. Oh so evil. Now, if you’ll be so kind, please direct me to the nearest exit.”
And made a daring escape with the help of a new ally
Tumblr media
He, uh. Doesn't mess around. I'm sure they're... sleeping. Yeah.
One more costume change later, she and Scourge head in to to talk to the Jedi Council.
Tumblr media
It's revealed that the events of just about everything is part of a giant convoluted plan for the Emperor (aka Vitiate) to devour everyone in the galaxy's life force. Sort of like an incorporeal evil space vacuum.
Tumblr media
Pictured: Darth Hoover
Then it's off to Belsavis! Which as the plot slowly reveals, is possibly one of the Republic's worst ideas yet. And considering they hired an undercover Sith as their lead scientist, and proceeded to construct a weapon capable of frying a planet from orbit, is saying something. Also, there was one last costume change. And maaaaybe a change to a new set of weapons that are definitely not stained with the blood of innocents that's I'm totally sure the game wasn't subtly implying we may have been responsible for while under Vitiate's thrall.
Tumblr media
(Look, she's going through an existential crisis. It tends to be hard on the warddrobe.)
On Belsavis we meet SecondBest!Cactus, also known as Pak. He's only Second Best because I already named Jomar the Best!Cactus and to go back on that now would just be confusing. And I couldn't come up with a better title for him. Pak's eyeliner is on point.
Tumblr media
We encounter Vitiate's death cult, full of really well-adjusted individuals who are convinced that this suicidal plan of theirs to self-destruct Belsavis's core will get them into a Vitiate-sponsored afterlife. "The Force doesn't work that way!" we try to explain to no avail.
Tumblr media
The Knight does seem to go head-to-head with death cults a lot, don't they? Maybe I should start a Death Cult counter.
For the rest of Belsavis, I proceed to make Scourge rethink all of his major life decisions and the wisdom of selling his soul to play a 300-year long con on the Emperor as he has to follow around a stubborn Jedi Knight who refuses to let one single kitten stuck in a tree go unsaved and blissfully ignores the literal ticking time bomb on the planet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Don’t give me that look. You had three hundred years to change your mind about this. You knew what you were getting into.
Finally, after saving a bunch of scientists, disarming some lava bombs (as you do), and a whole host of other distractions, we finally face off with our lead death cultist
Tumblr media
Some MORE bomb disarmament later, Belsavis and the surrounding planets are saved from cataclysmic destruction. And we get Pak his job back. Huzzah! But there's no time to rest, for this is the Knight's Chapter 3 storyline where the galaxy is on fire and we're trying to put it out without collapsing into a tiny Jedi ball composed of stress and anxiety. So it's off to a mysterious Imperial outpost to go save the Best!Cactus from some pickle he's gotten into.
Tumblr media
We learn that Leeha and Jomar were having an affair. Kira doesn't seem very shocked. Little Miss Perfect has matured a little since her Tython days, and decides that maybe tattling on every single Jedi she catches having a romance is bad karma or something, and after breaking Leeha free from being a Thrall, sends the traumatized lovebirds on their way.
Tumblr media
And then it's off to beautiful Voss, the land of eternal autumn. We meet a very tol pretty lady, Tala Reh, who is really into poetry. We have to team up with her to find a missing Mystic.
Tumblr media
The first spot we look for the missing Mystic all we find are a bunch of Sith who are REALLY out of sorts. In that they're fairly convinced we’re really into vore and really won't listen to reason.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We head to the Shrine of Healing. Again, people are fairly violent and not really willing to believe we have no intention of consuming their entrails an oddly specific detail. Not that it stops our cinnamon roll from trying to talk everyone down from murder. (Look, she's TRYNG!)
Tumblr media
After a minor but successful heist where we face off with a giant telepathic vorantikus (I mean, so cliched right?), we head into the Dark Heart of Voss, and face off with the eeeeeevil Lord Fulminiss. Who's a little confused at our presence, and very annoyed at the Mystic he kidnapped because how dare he leave a trail for rescuers to follow?
Tumblr media
Those darn kidnapping victims. Always trying to escape or have someone come rescue them. So ungrateful!
The Mystic reveals that he had a vision about all of this, and he's just been doing what was necessary to help it come to pass. He says our newest and tallest bestie has to sacrifice herself to this really dark hole because. Um. Destiny. Neither of them listen to reason. I'm sensing a pattern here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Today we head through the Voss planetary arc (for reasons), and if there's time after that maybe we'll head to Corellia.
Time to see what other mysteries Voss has for our intrepid hero. Going live now! – https://www.twitch.tv/greyias

Hiii!! Hope your doing well! Can I request for Ganyu, Jean, Yanfei, and Eula with an S/O who calls them "wife" out of the blue leaving the girls flustered, but what they don't know is S/O will also propose on the spot lmao- take your time author and no pressure!!
Calling her Wife as a Joke, and then Proposing to Her
Characters: Ganyu, Jean, Yanfei, Eula x gn!reader
warnings: none
A/n: It’s been so long since I’ve written for Yanfei ^.^ I hope I still have a good grasp on her character
Tumblr media
• Ganyu was so soft and shy, it made you want to squeeze her forever like a little stuffed animal. Except she could probably kill you with just her right thumb. You could spend your entire life with her and still see her as wifey material.
• When you called Ganyu your wife, she never imagined anyone would ever address her with such a title even for decades. She’d want to run and tell Cloud Retainer, Keqing, even Xiao immediately, someone to seek advice.
Ganyu and you rested atop the grassy mountain you both frequently went to clear your heads, a place that only you two knew. All you could hear was the soft sound of the winds and birds calling. It was often silent between you two, but occasionally Ganyu would talk up a storm.
“Do you still love me?” Ganyu asked out of the blue, making you choke on your own spit. What would possess her to ask such a question? Of course, you loved the qilin. It didn’t hit you that she was a normal girl who had insecurities like every other human. She looked at you with sad eyes.
“Of course, I love you Ganyu,” you reaffirmed. The question catching you so off guard you accidentally let the cat out of the bag. “You’re like my wife,” you said rubbing the hair on her head. Ganyu’s eyes widened, wife? nobody had ever called her wife. Scenarios of being your wife phasing in and out of her head at the speed of light. Having someone to come home to every day, to share her whole-grain meals with, take her afternoon naps with.
“W-wife?” she reiterated. Your eyes followed her as you got on one knee.
Clearing your throat, “Ganyu, will you marry me?” you asked her honestly.
Her eyes were so dizzy. Even though she fantasized about it so lustfully it was just a scenario in her head, she never imagined it would happen so quickly. She wanted to run, go somewhere to get advice, a second opinion. But her heart led her, “I accept your contract,” she said unknowingly of how to properly accept human traditions. Her hands held close to her head with a queasy smile.
Tumblr media
• Jean was strong-willed and exactly what you needed in a woman. She was as sturdy as a pillar and an idol in Mondstadt that everyone could admire. All mothers wanted their sons and daughters alike to marry her.
• When you called Jean your wife she’d pretend she didn’t hear it, but she was frozen in place, making it very obvious that she did. She was so busy with her knightly work that she never imagined she could be anybody's wife, she was never raised with such fantasies.
Jean allowed you to join her on her short tea break, you were supposed to have a big dinner date tonight with her at this fancy steak house nearby. It’s where you’d pop the big question, as per code, she didn’t suspect a thing. That was until you had to jump the gun. A stream of tea dripped down your chin as you upturned your cup too high, causing a small spillage on your chin.
Jean noticing, took her handkerchief that she carried around at all times. Wiping your chin and lips before moving to the moisture absorbed in your lap. “Jeeze, you can be so clumsy sometimes, you’re just like Barbara when we were younger. She always has me clean up after her,” she commented trying to make light of your mistake.
Barbara? Did she viewed you like a younger sibling? the thought flashed through your head. “Haha- except you’re gonna be my wife right?” you joked around out of impulse. Mentally slapping yourself, sometimes you said things with no thought of holding back. Her wiping ceased as she froze up. She had never given any thought to be your wife, but the idea was rather nice. She had always been good with children, and having a family of her own was highly advised if she wanted to be more reputable. What better candidate than you?
“Wife- haha, you’re funny,” she said trying to switch the topic. As much as she adored the idea it was probably just a passing thought. However, your panic pressured you to ask the question now.
“No Jean, I’m serious. Will you marry me?” You asked.
She dropped the handkerchief on the floor in shock, it was just a thought she had told herself. Reality was a different story, a blush spreading throughout her face. “Such an abrupt question,” she coughed into her hand as she grabbed her napkin, regaining her composure. “I suppose, take care of me well.” you had never seen such a flustered side of your girlfriend.
Tumblr media
• Yanfei wasn’t very well known in Liyue, she was however well-spoken and incredibly intelligent, not to mention an adepti. You’d need Madame Ping’s approval however, and none could impress her for the decades she’s looked over Yanfei.
• Marriage cases whether it was wedding two people together or the divorce was stressful for a legal advisor. So when you called Yanfei wife, she would be like ‘excuse me?’ Of course, it would leave her fantasizing about the scenario until you proposed.
Yanfei was running around all over Liyue all day to settle some disputes, she frequently said that a legal advisor’s job never rests even for the holidays. Today though, she’d have to give it a rest for your sake. She sat down as her knee fidgeted rapidly as she thought about all the cases that needed her assistance at this very moment.
You grabbed her hand to calm her down from across the table. “Yanfei if you’re going to be my wife one day you’ll need to learn to give yourself a break every now and then,” you urged her. Upon hearing your urges her leg stopped shaking as rapidly. Wife? was all she could hear reverberating throughout her brain, completely disregarding the message you were trying to send her.
“Excuse me? W-wife?” she howled at you, her hands gripping the armrests of her chair as she sat up in her seat out of disbelief. She was way too anxious and hyper off of two cups of coffee to remain calm. She had never thought of having a spouse, someone like herself who lives forever in what seemed like peace and harmony never had to rush such a thought. Her hand brushed against her chin in deep thought as you stared at her amused.
“You said wife right?” she tried to reaffirm herself after hearing no response from you.
“Mhm, Yanfei will you sign a contract with me of marriage?” you asked her with a massive grin.
Even though you had called her wife, the question was a different story. Her jaw-dropping, so much already in her lap. She had to recompose herself, breathing in and out before placing her hands back in her lap and sitting up straight “like a lady” just as Madame Ping had enforced. She had only ever signed a contract with her father, thinking long and hard she nodded with a puff. “Please take care of me, I’ll be in your good hands okay?” she asked with an assertive face.
Tumblr media
• Eula was surely pretty and strong-willed, but because of her last name, many overlooked her potential, instead of seeing Jean or Lisa as better suited. That’s what made you special however, you full-heartedly accepted Eula for Eula.
• When you called Eula your wife, she thought it too good to be true. Of course, she wanted to wed someone, but not until she achieved her true potential of redeeming social status in Mondstadt. She’d actually be quite offended that you’d joke around like that.
Eula stood upright as she finished the last bite of her dinner properly, minimally wiping her mouth with the cloth napkin. Although she left the scene of aristocracy a long time ago, she still maintained the etiquette and habits that were drilled into her brain. You sat across from her, watching her with hearts in your eyes, today was the day. You’d propose to your lovely girlfriend.
She tucked a hair behind her ear, averting her eyes uncomfortably from your stare that burned a hole through her head. “What’re you staring at dunce,” she insulted you. Her speech habits might’ve been harsh but by now you’ve gotten used to the verbal rejection. You’d simply hit her with your own quips.
“I’m staring at my lovely wife,” you retorted. Her head turned to the side, she hmphed. Until it clicked with her.... wife? Did you just call her wife? Her eyes shot open, she couldn’t be anybody’s wife. You’d have to be insane to willingly marry into the Lawrence family without some sort of ransom or bribe.
“Watch your mouth- I’m not your wife,” she said harshly.
“So if I asked you right now if you’ll marry me...” you got on your knee beside her. “Would you say no?” revealing the giant diamond in the ring case.
Her face twisted in fear, even if you were crazy enough to marry into her family... was she herself ready for marriage? All these questions flying around her head, but all of them pointed to one solution. You- you’d be there for her every day, you’d eat all her baking, you’d take her out to dinner dates every week. You were perfect in her eyes. “Fine...” she folded her arms, “If you betray me however I will not hesitate to strike you down where you stand.”

Cheat Day Part 2
I don't know what made me write this, but I hope this makes some sense. Dedicated to the sweetest @hstyleswomen @harrysficreblog
Masterist
Warnings: Angst
WC: 2800
Six years later.
The first few years of the split were brutal. You both couldn't spend a moment in the room with each other without crying or fighting. There seemed to be no end to your suffering, it seemed. But like all wounds, time heals most. You just needed some time to get your head in the game. Luna was your priority, after all.
Harry and you had found a rhythm in co-parenting. He would have her on weekdays for half the month, and rest you would have her. You both would alternate on weekends. As years have gone by, you both have learned to spend more time together, for Moonie's sake. Last year, you went on a vacation too. You, Moonie, Harry and his girlfriend Lisa. You and Lisa didn't have a great start, but both of you decided to hash it out for the sake of your little girl. She loved Moonie as her own, and you couldn't be more grateful. Lisa and Moonie had a beautiful relationship; she was a friend you little moon needed. Whenever Harry and you had arguments, Lisa would take Moonie and excuse herself out of the crossfire. Spending time with Lisa has made Moonie realise that it's possible to have more than one parental figure, and you can love them all the same. You couldn't be happier. You had finally got the opportunity to dive back into work fully and have a support system. That's what Lisa and Harry had become to you. Your support system.
Lisa and Harry met two years after the split. She had always been very kind to you, but it took you some getting used to the idea of your ex-husband with somebody else. So, of course, there was friction at first, but over time once you got to know her a little bit, you both got on very well. It definitely has something to do with the way she treated your daughter.
Lisa was a widow. Her husband and the little boy died in a freak accident. She never told you the details of how it happened, but it was something she was dealing with on her own. Harry had supported her through her grieving process, and that's what brought them together. It can seem odd to people how they got together, but those who know them know they're great for each other. Harry had changed too, since meeting her. He had a newfound appreciation for his daughter and his ex-wife and the relationship they had. That's what pushed him to work through the differences he had with you. He had to find a way to make things work and still be in your daughter's life. It took a lot of fights and compromise. But in the end, you two decided to put your past behind and march on ahead as a family. Even though it's not what you had signed up for in this relationship, but that doesn't mean you're not grateful for it.
It was Friday night, and Harry and Lisa would be coming in with Moons anytime now. It was a tradition you three had started for your little girl. Anne was coming over too. She wasn't happy with what happened, but she made peace with the situation like her son. You had taken the home you and Harry had bought, and he'd moved into another house close by. You both decided you needed to be closer to Luna. Even though it had led to multiple fights, in the end, you knew it was the best decision to stay close by. A few years ago, when Luna's appendix burst, he was close by to drive you both to the hospital and took care of at the hospital. When you have to go on work trips, he is there to take her in. It's an unconventional set-up, but it works.
Harry walks into your house with a very smiley Lisa on his arm. "Why are you smiling so much?" You ask her. She shows you her hand coyly. "Harry proposed to me this afternoon." Anne looks up from her phone, surprised. She smiles wide and the couple "Oh honey! I'm so happy for you both!" She rushes to hug the couple. Luna runs up to Lisa and Harry to embrace them. "I'm so happy for Pa! and you too, Lise!" Harry reaches down to her level and kisses her on the cheek. You were just standing and watching this exchange, kind of stunned. You knew they were serious, but you didn't think he was going to propose. You quickly recover and walk over to Lisa, "I'm so happy for you, Lisa! Congratulations!" You hug her, and over her shoulder, you can see Harry looking at you, and you wipe your eyes quickly and pull away from the hug.
The night goes better than you'd expected. You all celebrated with a nice bottle of wine and stories of how they met, and she told stories of her first few times interacting with Moons. Overall it was a beautiful night of reminiscing. Too bad you disagreed. You'd had a little too much to drink and caught Harry looking over to you every time you refilled your glass. You knew better than to call him out on it. So you just sat in a corner and wished you'd disappear.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
You wake by the incessant ringing coming from your phone. It's Harry. It's pretty late for him to be calling you, so you answer. "Harry, what's wrong?" You ask.
"Open your door; I'm outside." He speaks. You look at the time on your phone and get back on call. "What are you doing here? Why'd you call?" You ask again. "Just come out. I'll explain." You get out of bed and wear your robe and walk downstairs to your main door.
"Harry. What are you doing here? Are you drunk?" You look at him, confused.
He walks in. "I shouldn't have done it. I shouldn't have asked Lisa to marry me. I knew it when I broke the news to you today. I knew it was a bad call. I thought you wanted me to move on, but looking at your face today, I couldn't believe I had done that to you." He breathes out.
You look at him wide-eyed at his confession. "What the fuck? Did you just walk in here thinking you were going to make this stupid fucking argument and I was going to fall for it?" You say to him.
"Y/N, I know you love me."
"Of course, I love you, you bloody moron. I do, and I have for the last 15 years. But you cheated on me, remember? And you brought Lisa into our lives, whom I love very dearly, by the way. So what do you think was going to happen?"
"I can't stand being away from you. Living so close, yet you won't let me come near you. It's been killing me slowly each day." His lip was trembling as tears well in his eyes.
"Harry, you made this choice 4 years ago. You asked her to marry you. Why would you do this to me now?"
"I just need to kiss you once, please. Harry pleads.
"Think about Luna. Think about what you're ruining for her. We have already broken up our family. You can't break it anymore and cause her pain, please. I love you, I do. Very very much, and I can't stand here and watch you ruin yet another relationship, Harry."
"Please listen to what I'm saying. I love you, goddamnit! I need you to recognise that. I need you to tell me it will be okay, and we will be okay."
"We are okay, H. As okay as we can be. Please go back home to your fiancé, and don't bring this up again ever. For the sake of our daughter. Please." You're pleading with him now with tears streaming freely.
You turn around and walk back to your room. You laid back on your bed and cried quietly into your pillow.
You knew what you were going to do.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
You stand outside the door of your ex's mother. You have no idea how you will tell her what you have done to her daughter-in-law to be. But you had no one to turn to. So, you ring the doorbell and wait for her to open the door.
"Hello, darling! What a wonderful surprise!" She beams at you. You give her a small smile and walk into the house. You get comfortable on the couch in the living area while she closes the door and comes up to where you're sitting. "Moonie didn't want to come along?" She asks as she goes back to folding the laundry you had caught her in the midst of. "No, it's just me today." You spoke. "Let me put on some tea, and we'll have a good ol' mother-daughter chat. What d'ya say?" She smiles. "Yes. That sounds like a great plan." You smiled.
You both sat at the kitchen island, sipping on peppermint tea and mindlessly talking about things and catching up. You had yet to tell her. "Darling, let's stop beating around the bush, shall we?" Anne says to you. You freeze. She couldn't have known, but she definitely knows what's up.
"Harry came to talk to me the night he proposed." You looked down at your cup shamefully. Anne reached out to place her palm on yours, "I know. He told me." She smiles sadly.
"Yeah, and I can't live here anymore knowing how he feels." You whisper. "Are you going to tell him?" Anne seems calm like she understands how this must feel. "No." You look up at her with tears welling up in your eyes.
She gets up from across the table and comes around to where you are seated. She reaches out to you, and you lean into her and hold her waist, silently crying.
"Everything will fall in place, my child."
-----------------------------------------------------------------
You travelled a lot the following month, so it was easier to avoid Harry after that conversation you had. You had spent countless nights crying into your pillow. You knew you had to go back to therapy. You couldn't slip now. You had been doing so well.
Moonie was supposed to stay with you tonight. Harry would be dropping her off from ballet any moment now. You had been avoiding him ever since the incident between you too. You couldn't bear to look at him or Lisa. You just made up excuses most Fridays, some of which you were travelling, so it wasn't that big a deal. You were home to spend time with your girl and back to the office. Today, you'd just have to suck it up and face him. You didn't know what you'd say, but you couldn't avoid him forever. The thought alone had your stomach-churning. Suddenly the tacos you had for lunch didn't seem to be such a great idea. You walked into the kitchen and poured yourself a glass of cold water. You took an icepack from the fridge and carried both the items, and sat back on the couch with your head leaned back. You checked your phone for the time, and just in time, the bell rang. You got up from the sofa and walked up to the door. Opened the door to find Moonie, Harry and Lisa, all standing in front of you. You could see her ring glistening even in the porch light outside your home.
Suddenly you felt lightheaded and reached for the doorframe to steady yourself. Before you could think, you sunk down. But Harry was quick to catch you. Harry knelt beside you and laid your head on his lap, "It's okay, you're okay." He said softly. "Lisa! could you bring her some water, please". That's the last thing you heard before you passed out.
He was still standing behind you. "Are you feeling ill?" You rolled your eyes at him, you tried to sit up, and he helps you. "No, I think it's just the travelling." His eyes softened at your comment, "I've been calling you; you know? Why didn't you answer any of my calls?" He asks.
What were you supposed to say to that? I'm sorry that you want to leave your fiancé for me? Instead, you just shrugged. "I've been busy, Harry. Actually, I don't feel so good right now, so could we maybe talk about this later?" You turned to look at him. He moved backwards and out of your way to give you some room. "Yeah, sure. Can I get you something? I can stay with you for a few hours." He asked. "No. That won't be necessary, Harry. Please go home."
You walk into the living room and find Lisa making a cup of tea. "Hey, you feeling any better?" She smiles at you. She pours the tea into a cup and brings it over to you, "It always helped me, so I figured why not?" You thank her and take the cup from her.
"Yeah, I think it's just the stress from travelling so much. I'll be okay in a few days. I think I'm going to turn in." You asked. "Of course, darling. You just feel better, okay?" She smiles at you. "Honey, Let's head home and give this one some time to rest." She walks up to Harry and puts her arm around him, and sweetly pecks his cheek. He smiles, but it doesn't quite reach his eyes. "Yeah, I'll just go say goodbye to her", And he walks towards your daughter's room.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Harry : I need to see you, please.
You: Come over after dinner today.
Harry: See you x
"Are we going to talk about what happened?" He raises an eyebrow at you. "I think we're past the stage of talking at this point." You sigh. "What do you mean?" He asks. He's furrowing his brows at you like he does when he's concerned about something.
"I'm leaving, Harry."
"What."
"Yeah, I have been planning it for 2 months now. I don't know how long I'll be gone."
"I came to tell you that I ended things with Lisa, and I wanted to give us a real shot. Give Moonie an actual shot at a family."
"I don't need to tell you anything, really. We can figure out the details of how we're going to manage custody later over text or call."
"So you're just going to leave your daughter go to god knows where?" He asks you.
"I can't be here anymore, Harry. This opportunity will bring countless more opportunities for Moonie and me. And I need to do this for myself. Now, if you will please." You show him the door.
That was the last time you'd see Harry for a long time. But that's something he didn't need to know.
You didn't know if you'd be able to go through with it. But it had to be done. If Harry were to leave Lisa or not, it had to be on his terms, not because he was in love with you.
A few months later
When you told Anne about your plan, she wasn't exactly on board. But she understood, and she loved you. So, of course, she brought you to her farmhouse for you to stay. You and Luna made an agreement that she wouldn't tell her Pa that you're camping out here. Anne would bring her down on weekends. You'd found a strange confidante in your daughter. Not that you'd go into the details of your relationship with Harry, but she understood many things that you didn't give her credit for. That's how you spent the past few months. Getting to know your daughter, who hadn't been a stranger to your problems with Harry, even though that's how you wanted it to be.
You were sipping your morning coffee as you check your emails for anything you had lined up for the day. The date was looming over you, and you just needed to be as distracted as to not think about the wedding happening right now. You need to occupy yourself with work. So, you open the email folder and find an email from Lisa. She has tried to reach out to your multiple times on call and via text, but you always make an excuse about work or being sick. With time she stopped reaching out so often, and you felt less guilty for moving away.
Dear Leyla,
I can't say I haven't missed you these past few months. Hope you're well. I'm getting married today, and you're not here. In a way, I get why you left. But I just wanted to let you know that I wanted you here, just as much Moonie and Harry. Especially him. But you already knew that, didn't you?
With time, I hope he loves me just as much you love him.
Love,
Lisa.
You couldn't stop crying now. You knew that she knew.

Don’t Make Me Beg Now Baby
CHAPTER ONE: EDGE OF DARKNESS
Hello fellow Greta Van Freaks. This is my very first Greta fic! I hope you enjoy.
MASTERLIST
Note: This fic contains mature themes, discussions of past non-con (no members of GVF involved) and drug use. Minors DNI. 18+ only and please take care of yourselves. (See Ao3 for full tag list)
You can also read this fic on Ao3 if you prefer!
Jake Kiszka x Original Female Character
Picture this: The boys are in Northern Michigan to write the new album and they meet a wild young woman who works at a local record store who has a rough history with rock bands.
She doesn’t want to fall into the same traps she fell into before. He doesn’t want to hurt her.
The rest of them just want them to figure their shit out.
Note: While this fic is based on the members of Greta Van Fleet, I obviously do not know them personally (lol) and nearly 99% of this is a fever dream I decided to write down. Some tid bits are based on things said in interviews/photos/songs but please do not come for my neck if you dislike my portrayals as this is a STORY that I have entirely made up.
This will be a slow burn, overly dramatic, cliché fest of me missing my Mitten State and wishing more than anything I could move back home. Their music makes me homesick and for that I’ll never forgive them. ;)
Chapter Under the Cut
CHAPTER ONE: EDGE OF DARKNESS
The tiny bell on the door to “The Edge” clanked as Jake pushed his way in, followed by Josh, Sam and Danny. The afternoon sun streamed through the slats in the windows at a harsh angle, illuminating the swirling dust. The boys all immediately took a deep breath. They all loved the smell of this place. A mix of dusty old vinyl's, incense and weed.
The Edge was the shop owned by an old friend, Levi, who had been a longtime family friend of the Kiszka’s. The boys had made the near three hour drive to the shop whenever they had a spare weekend in their younger years. They bought Levi out of his guitar strings and drumsticks and always looked through the boxes of vinyl's hoping to find treasures. Levi sold an eclectic mix of music equipment, records, books, home goods and comically horrific coffee.
The Edge is where they had each bought their very first instruments, had their first beers and even smoked their first joint. It was a special place for them.
The old wood floors creaked with every step, the wood walls were covered with old articles from Rolling Stone, photos Levi had taken and autographs from the artists who had cycled through the place over the years. There were stacks upon stacks of vinyl's. Shelves of old autobiographies and music theory books. There were speakers stacked from floor to ceiling, and the whole right side of the store was jam packed with basses and guitars. The back corner had a few keyboards and a drum set, but plenty of catalogues to pick even more instruments from. There were cases of drumsticks and guitar picks and strings. The middle of the store had tables full of incense, candles and interesting home goods. There were tables where local artists sold jewelry, art pieces and furniture. It was full to the brim, most shelves rising way up to the ceiling. Most needed a ladder to reach the top. The basement had a sound studio with even more equipment set up to be used to record, or to test out.
Levi had inherited the place from his father, who had built up quite a legendary roster of friends over his years. The shop was just off Front Street on the main drag of Traverse City. Levi’s father had made a name for himself as a great host to bands looking to escape to northern Michigan to hole up in cabins and write albums. Levi continued the tradition and took it a step further by buying the space next door and turning it into a club with live music on the weekends.
If you were lucky, you could catch some super huge bands playing for only about 100 people in the dark side room of The Edge.
“You bastards finally made it!” Levi called out as he came sauntering out of the back room. Levi looked the exact same as the last time the boys had seen him. Tanned skin from his days paddle boarding and hiking along the Lake Michigan shore, sandy blonde hair that was brighter in the summer, perpetual 5-o-clock shadow because he just couldn’t be bothered to shave, shell necklace around his neck, light wash jeans low on his hips with the same old cowboy boots he’d been wearing since the boys were 12.
“Is that grey hair I see Levi?” Josh leaned forward with an exaggerated squint. Levi laughed, snagging Josh’s head to give him a noogie.
“I may be older than you punks by a few years, but Im not greying yet.” Levi released Josh from his headlock and gave him a shove.
“I’d say 37 is more than a few years older than us, grandpa.” Sam snarked.
“You’re makin me regret extending my hospitality, kid.”
Jake felt himself relax fully for the first time in a really long time. It was just like old times. Exactly what the boys needed.
“Welcome back dudes. I’m surprised I’m still cool enough for you Rockstar types.” Levi crossed his legs and leaned back against the front counter.
“We’ll never be too cool for The Edge. This place will always be way cooler than we could ever be.” Danny piped up, walking forward to wrap Levi in a hug.
“It’s been too long man.” Levi commented as he smacked Danny on the back.
“We know.” Sam said “Way too fuckin long.” He hugged Levi next. Josh and Jake followed up with hugs next. The room was heavy with a tinge of melancholy. Old friends who had missed each other finally reunited.
“Well, have you guys been to the house yet?” Levi stepped around the counter and started pouring four cups of the famous nasty coffee.
“Yeah we dropped our bags off before we headed into town.” Danny spoke up.
“Isn’t it sweet?” Levi asked enthusiastically.
“It’s wicked man. Thanks so much for getting that set up for us.” Josh grinned as he snagged a cup off the counter.
The house was a mid century modern cabin right on the east bay shore. It came equipped with a huge garage studio, front deck and a dock out into the bay. Levi had bought the house in foreclosure and along with help from a bunch of locals (in exchange for beer of course) they turned the house into a perfect getaway for any artists looking to come take a break up north. The place had five bedrooms and three bathrooms with a giant living room with overstuffed couches and velvet chairs. The walls were covered in art and the shelves were full to bursting with plants. It was a kaleidoscope of colors and textures,  with mix matched rugs and lamps. It was Levi’s pride and joy.
“I’m so glad you guys like it.” Levi smiled even bigger as he passed coffees to the rest of the boys. “Once you’re a little more settled, feel free to send me a list of equipment you want me to set up downstairs and you can start coming in whenever to work. But also, I think you should probably take a week or two off first. You all look about two seconds away from collapsing.”
“Yeah we’re pretty fuckin beat dude. But we’ll send you a list ASAP.” Jake said, taking a burning sip of the coffee. It singed his nerve endings and he couldn’t have been happier about it.
Levi opened his mouth to speak again, when a voice filtered through the window to the loft above the store.
“Yo Levi!” the person shouted “Can you please get off your fuckin ass and pick music to play? I know Wednesdays are your day to pick but if you take forever I’m just gonna put on whatever I want and you can suck it.”
All four boys' heads snapped up to the window to the loft, but whoever was up there couldn’t be seen. All they could see was that the loft had clearly gotten a makeover. What used to be an upper level where Levi stored surplus supplies now looked like it had a plush velvet couch, lava lamps and plants in it.
“Alright alright! I’ll get on it.” Levi called back up, shaking his head and chuckling to himself as he walked toward the central sound system behind the counter to scroll through Spotify playlists.
“Who the fuck is that and what have you done to the loft?” Josh asked, hopping up to sit on the counter.
“That would be the very best thing that’s ever fallen into my lap. A.k.a my new store and venue manager Maven. She moved back to the area after living in Hollywood for a few years managing bands and she completely changed my life. We finally have consistent stock, a longstanding line up at the club and I have had the time to start photography again. Truly a godsend, if not occasionally a pain in my ass. She turned the loft into a breakroom of sorts.  There’s a couch and table up there now. She practically lives up there sometimes.”
“Damn she must be some woman if she finally got you to get your shit together with that club.” Sammy piped up.
“She’s hellfire, I’ll tell yah that.” Levi chuckled, finally hitting play on a playlist. The first bars of Surfin USA by the Beach Boys came on the surround system and matching groans came out of Jake downstairs and Maven upstairs.
“Not this shit again!” Maven yells. Jake chuckled to himself. Hellfire indeed.
“It’s my day to pick so suck it!” Levi called back before faux stage whispering to the boys “I mostly just play this to piss her off.”
Levi clapped his hands together once “Well boys, It’s close enough to five o'clock and I owe you a beer. Let’s head over to Little Fleet for some grub and beers and we can catch up.”
Josh grimaced as he sucked down the last bit of his coffee before lobbing the empty cup into the trash at the end of the counter. “You still make shit coffee Levi.”
“It’s the one thing I wouldn’t let Maven fix.” Levi said with a grin as all five men exited out the back door.
                                                           ~0~
The boys took a week to relax, as per Levi’s request. They spent the days hiking the shore, kayaking and drinking beer around the fire. It had been way too long since they’d done this. The release of The Battle at Garden’s Gate had been exhilarating and the fans' response had been everything they’d hoped for. People seemed to love the album and they were all so proud. But with press interviews and touring, they hadn’t gotten more than a day or two to relax at a time. And they certainly hadn’t gotten a chance to get back to their favorite old haunts in years.
They stopped by the store almost every morning for a cup of coffee strong enough to jumpstart their hearts. Sometimes Levi joined them on their escapades, and sometimes he stayed behind to help out at the store. The boys spent a few afternoons sifting through albums and strumming on some of Levi’s vintage guitars.
Mostly they caught up on each other's lives. The boys recounted their more personal lives that happened outside the coverage of the album and Levi talked about the past few years of his life in Traverse City. Levi told them all about Maven and how she was practically his little sister. They laughed. They drank. They had a blast.
The boys noticed Levi was a little on edge occasionally, typically when they heard someone shuffling upstairs or equipment moving around in the backroom of the shop. They assumed it was Maven but weren’t sure, since they had yet to see her in the flesh. A week from their arrival they were all sitting in lawn chairs in the alley behind the store, smoking cigs and drinking their coffee when Sam finally asked.
“So, why haven’t we met your precious Maven yet? Hiding her from us or something?”
Levi shifted a bit in his chair. “Um..” he coughed out a laugh. “I am actually. Yes. But it’s the other way around, I’m hiding you from her.”
“Afraid she’ll fan-girl or something?” Josh commented as he ashed his cigarette.
“In… a sense.” Levi coughed. “But in quite the opposite way you’re imagining.”
“She’s a fan then?” Sammy piped up.
“She loves your music. A lot.” Levi sniffed and coughed again. “It’s a real safe haven for her. When she’s having a bad day I catch her upstairs laying on the floor smoking a J with sound cancelling headphones blasting your albums as loud as she can.”
“Exactly how it’s meant to be enjoyed. With a joint in hand.” Jake chimes in.
“Yeah..” Levi toes the asphalt a bit with his boots, but doesn’t continue.
“Soooo” Sammy drawls “Why can’t we meet her? We’re no stranger to super fans. I’m sure she’s cool.”
“Um, well. It’s a bit complicated.” Levi heaves a sigh before flicking his cigarette butt into the coffee canister at the center of their little circle. “I suppose I can trust you guys. You’re friends. Do you remember the huge lawsuit that the band Undercover Heart went through last year? The one about the um” He coughs again, “Rape of one of their staff members by the lead singer Ryan?”
“Yes. That shit was horrific man.” Danny spoke up. “I read all the details I could. They kept the poor girl's identity private but goddamn I felt so bad for her. She was a badass for filing that suit though.”
“Yeah. She was.” Levi breathed. “So, this is strictly off record and if you repeat this to anyone I will skin you all alive, famous rock stars be damned.”
“Jesus Levi.” Jake said.
“It was her.” Levi choked out. “Maven. That’s why she ran back from Hollywood and ended up here. That dude messed her up and she just… she struggles with meeting famous bands now. You know how many people cycle through this joint writing stuff. She just… has a really fuckin hard time with it sometimes. Particularly bands she likes. I think it’s because once you meet someone, and in her case, discover how much of a monster they can be, their music isn’t… safe anymore.”
“Fuck.” Jake said, flicking his cigarette into the canister.
“Well I feel terrible for joking about her being a fangirl.” Josh mutters.
“She just genuinely loves you guys a lot. I never really told her I was an old friend because I didn’t want her to be worried about y’all stopping by. I just know that if she knows you’re here she’ll take off and avoid coming by the shop as much as she can and not only do I need her here, but I think she needs the safety of the shop too. I didn’t want to wreck it.” Levi sighs again. “I know she’ll find out you’re here eventually, it’s inevitable. I just was a coward and didn’t want to break the news to her.”
“She was a pretty well known band manager wasn’t she?” Danny asks. “She like… completely made Undercover Heart what it was. Before they hired her they were slated to be a one hit wonder but she hauled them into relevancy basically by her will alone.”
“Yeah. She basically built that man's career for him. She gave him everything, and he took everything from her. If I ever see the man I’m liable to get my ass thrown in prison.” Levi mutters.
“I’ll help.” Danny says immediately.
All five sit in silence for a few minutes, smoking the last of their cigarettes. When they’d all finished, they stood and stretched to head back inside the shop.
“So yeah. Anyway, If you see her that’s fine, just… well now you have context for… her.” Levi says as he yanks open the door.
A few steps into the back hallway, Levi suddenly halts, causing all four boys to nearly bash into each other. The front door to the shop had crashed open and there were footsteps stomping across the store toward the front desk.
“Listen Levi,” Maven’s tense voice carried down the back hall. “I know Wednesdays are usually your day for music but I’m having an absolute shit fucking day so I’m playing Greta all day and there’s absolutely nothing you can fucking do about it, kapeesh?”
The very opening chords of Edge of Darkness scratch through the speakers after she finishes her sentence and the boys all exchange a slightly amused look, grins spread on all of their faces.
“Kapeesh.” Levi calls out to her. He spins and silently nods to the boys to head toward the back door. The boys attempt to be as quiet as they can as they creep toward the door.
“Also, Levi?” Maven calls again. Everyone halts in their tracks. “You said there was a band coming in soon. Are they here yet? Do you need me to set up the backroom?”
“Uh, yeah they’re here.” Levi squeaks. All five men share nervous looks. “They’re uh… up at the house.” He cringes at his lie. “I’m getting an equipment list from them today and then you can get started.
“Cool cool.” Maven calls back. “Do you think I’ll like their stuff?”
“Uh. Yeah.” Levi grins then. “I think you will.”
“Wicked.” Maven calls back.
All five men repress giggles as they skedaddle out the back door and into the alley.
                                                        ~0~
The next morning the boys wake up to a group text from Levi.
COME BY THE SHOP ASAP. COME IN BACK DOOR. HEAD DOWN THE STAIRS TO THE BOOTH. BE AS QUIET AS YOU CAN.
A weird request, but they did as they were told. They all piled into the SUV they had rented and headed to the shop. Danny peeled open the back door as quietly as he could, and Sammy opened the door to the stairs. They tiptoed down and through the door at the end of the stairs that opened into the booth of a sound studio. Levi sat in front of all the mixing boards with a cup of coffee to his lips. He glanced over at them and softly said “coffees on the table.”
“Why the weird text?” Jake asked.
“Because of that.” Levi responded softly, pointing through the dark glass into the soundstage.
The sound stage was littered with mismatched rugs, and a few milk crates that doubled as tables. There was a gorgeous seafoam green drum set toward the back wall and stands full of various guitars and basses. Along the left wall was a piano and a Mellotron set up exactly to the specifications Sam sent over. However, with all these beautiful instruments to look at that would normally catch their eye, it was the woman sitting on stool in the center, cradling a dark purple Fender guitar that made Jake stop in his tracks.
Maven, Jake had to guess that’s who it was, was wearing checkered distressed pants, with a ripped up old band t-shirt cropped at her ribs, revealing a sliver of the rounded part of her stomach. Over top she was wearing an orange leopard print cardigan that ran down to her thighs. Around her neck was a series of long necklaces, and her wrists were adorned with interlacing leather bands.
She was plucking out a melody with her eyes closed, rocking back and forth on the stool. Jake had seen countless numbers of people playing the guitar before. On the road, in the studio, studying old masters on YouTube. There was nothing overly special about the way she was sitting or playing, but he felt a little bit like he couldnt breathe.
“She never fuckin plays anymore man.” Levi whispered. “It felt like magic hearing music coming out of the basement this morning. I just felt like you should see it.”
The melody she was playing was sad. Haunting is a better way to put it, and Jake couldn’t look away. Not even when Sammy placed a cup of burning hot coffee into his hands. She was moving her head along with her playing, the strands of her dark messy hair shaking back and forth. The group watched in silence as she played out the riff a few times, Levi cranked the volume of the mics in the space and they could hear her humming softly.
“She has a strong presence.” Josh murmured.
Maven suddenly stopped. Everyone froze as she heaved a sigh and stood from the stool to put the guitar back on it’s rack.
“You in there Levi?” Maven said then. The boys still didn’t move a muscle. Jake’s head was spinning, having finally seen the face that went with the voice he’d heard in the loft for a week. She was beautiful. He couldn’t even really put his finger on why, but he couldn’t take his eyes off her. Even seeing her through the thick dark glass of the studio.
Levi hit the button to the mic in the booth and responded “Yah.” He paused before adding. “Sounded good.”
Maven snorted in a self-deprecating way and said “Thanks.”
Levi hit the mic button again and said “You should play more.”
“Don’t push it Levi.” Maven snapped back. Levi released the button to his mic and let out a heavy sigh. “Can you check some levels on the lines for me? I think I have everything pretty good but I want to make sure before they get here today.”
“Sure.” Levi replied.
Maven pulled the amp cord out of the Fender she had been playing on and plugged it into another guitar, one more similar to the guitars that Jake regularly used while they wrote.
“Are we looking for a punk or a rock-y sound?” Maven asked.
“Um.” Levi hesitated. “Rock. Their sound is like…” He tossed a small smile over his shoulder at the boys. “Like Greta’s actually.”
“Dope. I hope they’re not just copying the boys. They’ve got a mellotron in here and everything.” The boys smiled. She pounded out a few chords on the guitar. “Good?”
Levi looked over at Jake for confirmation. Jake, who still had not taken his eyes off Maven, nodded.
“Yeah, that should be good for raw sound. They can play with stuff too. They’re a pretty well educated bunch.” Levi called back.
“Thank god.” Maven snorted. “Not like that indie punk bunch you booked last month who needed me to do fucking all their sound mixing for them.”
“Maven, I don’t think they kept asking you down here because they need help with their sound.”
Maven just rolled her eyes at that.
They repeated the process with each instrument, Levi silently asking for confirmation from the respective Greta member until they were sure the sound lines were all functioning properly.
“Great work kid.” Levi called into the studio.
“Ew don’t call me kid. I’m a 27 year old woman.” Maven called back.
Levi chuckled. “You’re a kid to me.”
“Whatever.” Maven muttered. “I’m gonna go take a walk along the beach. Smoke a little. Text me if they need me.”
“Will do.” Levi called back. The boys all tensed, looking for places to hide, or to run up the stairs and back into the alley. Luckily, Maven took the back door out of the studio and up another hallway instead.
“Well boys, it’s all you.” Levi said. “Text if you need anything.”
Sam piped up and said “Yeah actually, can you pick my brother’s jaw up off the floor?”
“Jake see pretty lady play guitar and Jake brain break.” Josh teased.
“You guys suck.” Jake grumbled.
Levi cackled. “I thought you’d like her.”
                                                        ~0~
Maven walked along the coast of the bay and absentmindedly smoked a joint. It was an overcast and drizzly day which meant there was no one around, which she preferred anyway. She was feeling on edge. The drizzle was very slowly building a small sheen of water on her arms and hair, but she didn’t mind. The cool water and gentle breeze combination was perfect.
Maven sat her butt down in the sand and stared out at the waves. She normally wore headphones on her walks, her world was a near constant stream of music, but she had opted for silence today.
Levi was being weird. He was edgy around her all week, sending her out every morning for tasks and disappearing without saying where he was going around 4:30 every day. She had come to the conclusion that whatever band was in town this week was a pretty big name. Or big enough that he was nervous about her being around them. She sighed. She hated when he tiptoed around her. Maven didn’t blame him. When she first started working at the shop she had had a couple pretty bad PTSD episodes that had scared the shit out of him. She owed him everything for staying with her, talking her down and making sure she was fed and had water when she got into one of her states.
Levi was her best friend, to put it mildly. He cared for her, kept her safe and in return she busted her ass at his store making sure they had the best products, the best shows and that their artist getaway was something that people would go back and tell their friends about. She loved Levi like an older brother, and he cared for her like his little sister. She would forever be grateful to whatever power in the universe made her stumble into The Edge two years ago.
She had been high out of her mind, as she had been most days after she came running back to Michigan with her tail between  her legs, and Levi had been struggling with an amp in the shop. She had walked in, spotted his struggle and didn’t even say a word to him, just walked over and fixed the wiring so that it was functional again. Levi had looked up from where he sat on the floor and said “You don’t happen to need a job do you?”
The rest was essentially history. It only took two months of seeing him every single day, and him not letting her sour moods go by unnoticed, for her to spill her guts over some bourbon one night. About Ryan and Undercover Heart and how badly the whole situation fucked her up. How after she’d recorded her testimony she’d boarded the next flight to Grand Rapids and hightailed it up north. She came crash landing into Traverse City because she’d always loved it as a kid, and figured it would be a great place to start over. The small town she’d grown up in had too many people who knew her.
He was extra careful with bands for a while. Never letting her be alone in a room with too many male band members, and carefully vetting everyone who came through. Eventually she told him off about treating her like a porcelain doll and he backed down a bit, giving her free reign over lots of the equipment set ups and giving her plenty of hours in the shop by herself. She was happy to do so, so Levi could focus on fixing up the artist house and starting his photography again.
But he was still very gentle with her sometimes, and she’d always love him for it even when it pissed her the fuck off.
Once she’d smoked the joint down to the roach, she tucked the end into her pocket. It was sacrilegious to litter near the lake. It was too precious to be fucked with. She meandered back toward the shop. Her plan was to grab her bag and head back to let her Pitbull, Stacy, out for a walk and pee. The girl had been cooped up all morning and Maven felt bad.
She threw her whole body against the front door, as the latch often stuck, and the loud sound of the chimes clanged in the empty space. She rolled her eyes. Of course Levi left the shop unattended and unlocked. It was Traverse City, no one was gonna rob them, but what if someone wanted to buy something?
She was humming softly to herself as she made her way around the edge of the counter and plopped down on the stool by the register. She whipped out her phone to ask Levi where he was. She had the message halfway typed when the door behind her, the one that led to the staff restroom, popped open.
“You know, crime is especially low in this town but that doesn’t mean someone wouldn’t come in here and try to steal your precious coffee maker.” She tossed over her shoulder.
“Oh.” Was all that came back. It was decidedly not Levi’s voice. Maven spun back quickly.
“Sorry I…” But that’s as far as she got. She was suddenly face to face with Jake Kizska and all thoughts quickly left her brain.
They both stared at each other for a long moment. Maven couldn’t quite figure out why he looked just as shocked to see her as she was to see him. He also almost looked afraid for some reason that Maven couldn’t figure out.
He was dressed in an outfit she’d seen him wear plenty of times. A black button up, half unbuttoned, loose fitting light wash jeans and a pair of well worn boots. His wrists were full of bracelets and his hair was longer than the last time she’d seen footage of their concerts, well past his collarbones at this point.
“Hi.” Jake finally broke the silence. “I’m Jake.” He reached out his hand for a handshake.
“I know.” Maven replied, and then coughed. Why did you say that you freak?
Suddenly the front door bell chimed again, and Maven whipped her head to see Levi coming in the front door. She stood abruptly from her stool, skirted around Jake’s outstretched hand, and out from behind the counter. She scooped up her leather satchel on her way.
She headed straight at Levi. He glanced over his shoulder and saw an apologetic Jake looking forlorn and lowering his hand back to his side.
“Oh hey Maven-”
“Hey dumbass, don’t leave the store unattended again. I’m going home to check on Stacy. Probably won’t be back for the rest of the day.” Maven spit as she stormed past him toward the front door.
“Maven wait-”
But she was already outside, the hinges bringing the heavy wood crashing back into the frame. The chime of the bells rang through the space.
“Sorry.” Jake muttered.
“Not your fault. I knew she’d find out eventually. Right now she’s probably just pissed I didn’t tell her. Which she has every right to be.” Levi sighed.
After a few more beats of silence Jake spoke again. “Who’s Stacy?”
Levi huffed a laugh. “That would be her Pitbull.”
“Oh.” Jake said again. He felt crazy because his brain couldn’t come up with anything else to say. She was prettier up close. She smelled like the Lake and weed and sandalwood. He really wished she’d taken his hand. He shook his head trying to find his brain in it somewhere.
The other three boys came clambering up the stairs and into the store. They all looked between Levi, who was still standing in the middle of the shop, and Jake behind the counter.
“Are you two playing freeze tag or something?” Sam quipped.
“Jake met Maven.” Levi responded. The boys' heads whipped toward Jake.
“And… I’m guessing it… went well?” Danny questioned.
Levi finally walked back toward the counter. “She left for the day. This is on me. I should have told her y’all were here.” He snagged his keys from below the counter and walked toward the front door to lock up. “I’m closing early, boys. Let’s go get a beer.”
“Kowabunga baby.” Josh said with a grin.
                                                     ~0~
Maven sat curled up on her velvet couch, Stacy was her little spoon. There was incense burning, a bottle of wine open on the side table and a lit joint in the ashtray. She had changed into a giant t-shirt and boxer shorts. The soft sounds of John Denver playing off her record player.
However, none of these things were easing her mind.
She was pissed, mostly. At herself. At Levi. She was pissed he didn’t tell her they were coming. She was pissed that he felt he couldn’t tell her. She was pissed that she had acted like a freak in front of Jake.
The anxiety was an endless pit in her stomach. She couldn’t go back there tomorrow. She couldn’t see any of those people. Not when she felt like this.
She whipped out her phone and quickly shot a message to Levi, before chugging her whole glass of red wine and snagging the joint out of the ashtray.
                                                        ~0~
Levi’s phone dinged on the table where all of the guys sat drinking beers and chatting. Levi glanced at it and quickly picked it up when he saw her name.
“It’s Maven.” He said.
“What did she say?” Jake asked, sitting up a bit in his chair.
“Fuck.” Levi said, tossing his phone on the table, still unlocked.
All four boys leaned in to read the screen.
CASHING IN ALL MY VACATION DAYS. I’LL BE OUT FOR TWO WEEKS.
“Fuck indeed.” Josh said, pounding back the rest of his beer.

For as long as Percy can remember, he has had dreams of becoming a husband and a father, of giving himself over completely to love and the service of it. But every dream he has ever had can not even come close to the reality of being married to Annabeth, and getting to have a child with her. That child being Ruthie, the human embodiment of a ray of sunshine that warms you on a cool summer day, only makes things even more surreal.
“Daddy, are you listening?” she shouts up at him.
Percy shakes his head, clearing it momentarily of his romantic thoughts. “Sorry, Monster, I got distracted. What’s up?”
“I said,” she chides with an attitude. “Do you think that mommy will like the strawberries?”
“Oh, she’s gonna love them, baby,” he answers. “I mean, you picked them yourself. How could she not?”
The five year old smiles with pride as she scoots the bowl containing the fruit closer to her dad and the picnic basket he is packing. He throws in a nice loaf of bread he picked up from the baker in the early hours of the morning, and matching bottles of champagne and sparkling apple cider.
“Now,” he says, admiring his own handiwork with his hands on his hips. “You said you wanted to bring a book to read with mom.”
Ruthie’s eyes get big and she bites her bottom lip. “Mhmm!”
“Do you need my help getting it?” he asks.
She turns and breaks into a sprint. “NO, I GOT IT DADDY!”
A few minutes later she returns with a book in her arms that she holds close to her chest.
“What did you pick?”
“It’s a surprise, daddy, I can’t tell you!” she says with an offended frown.
“Oh, I’m so sorry,” he says, averting his gaze. “How rude of me.”
“I forgive you,” Ruthie says nicely. “Can my puppies come with us?”
“Of course they can, it’s a picnic!”
Ruthie smiles, and jumps in place excitedly. “Do the New York whistle! Please, daddy!”
Percy laughs, and winks at his daughter. “You got it, kid.”
He sticks his thumb and index finger in his mouth and takes a deep breath, exhaling into a shrill whistle that cuts through the cavernous estate. Ruthie giggles as she pins her book under her arm to cover her ear, always delighted by her dad’s whistling ability. Soon, the sounds of paws clacking against the hardwood floors get closer and closer until two huge black dogs are tripping over each other to say hello to Ruthie, who again giggles in delight.
“Puppies!” she shouts.
“More like ponies,” Percy says under his breath. “Everyone ready to go outside?”
Blackjack barks at the mention of his favorite word and Ruthie barks along with him, earning a delighted giggle from Percy in turn. He turns to grab the picnic basket, grunting as he pulls it off the counter and has to contend with its hefty weight.
“We may have packed too much,” he admits, as his kid and dogs look up at him expectantly.
“Seems just right to me,” Ruthie says with a shrug.
Percy’s heart swells as he looks down at the little girl who seems to be a carbon copy of the love of his life, and almost can’t believe how damn lucky he really is.
Percy shrugs right back. “Well, you are the boss.”
Ruthie twirls and heads out of the room, her dogs closely in tow. “Picnic time!”
A huge red blanket adorned with white lace flowers that was made by a woman in town is spread across the open green hilltop that overlooks the sea. An olive tree with a thick, twisted trunk towers over them, her branches providing shade from the warm August afternoon.
Ruthie runs around with the dogs, her bubbly laugh filling the air. Her laughing soon turns into cheering as she notices the lean figure of her mother walking towards them. Ruthie takes off towards Annabeth, jumping into her arms and excitedly turning back to Percy to wave and alert him that they are on their way to the picnic.
As he watches them approach, Percy’s head is again filled with an endless stream of thoughts about the life he has built with Annabeth. One chance meeting in Montauk had changed the trajectory of his entire life, and he will always be in debt to whatever confluence of events allowed it to happen.
Growing up, he loved watching his mom tell stories about his dad and he will never forget the way her eyes always lit up whenever he came up in conversation. While his father’s love was intangible in many ways, it was also the very thing his entire existence was predicated on. It is something he has held close to his heart like a prayer, and as he watches his family walk towards him, he hopes with everything that he is that he is doing his father’s legacy justice.
“You’ve got that starry look in your eyes,” Annabeth says with a suspicious squint as she sets her daughter down. “Are you over here being sappy?”
Percy can’t help his dopey smile. “Always. But with the perfect wife and daughter, how could I not?”
Annabeth rolls her eyes as she sits on the blanket, blessing Percy with a chaste kiss that is over too soon for his liking.
“How was work?” he asks, his eyes still dazed and dreamy.
“Surprisingly good,” she answers as Ruthie climbs into her lap. “Everything is set for our return.”
“Is Nana gonna be there?” Ruthie asks, leaning her head all the way back against her mom’s chest to look up at her awkwardly.
Annabeth places a quick kiss to Ruthie’s forehead. “Of course she will. She’s gotta see her best girl.”
“Uncle Grover is gonna be there too,” Percy adds.
Ruthie wraps her arms around herself, dipping her head in shyness. “Everyone loves me so much.”
Annabeth wraps Ruthie up in a bear hug and places a dozen kisses to her cheek. “So so so SO much, Honeybee.”
For a moment, the family simply sits in bliss, enjoying each other’s company and the perfect island day. But with an active five year old, that can never last long.
“Mommy, it’s time for strawberries and reading,” Ruthie declares as she stands and grabs the berries from the basket. She then walks to the far end of the blanket, lifting the corner to reveal the book she has chosen.
“The book was a secret?” Annabeth whispers to Percy.
He raises his eyebrows and nods, whispering back. “Privileged information. A family tradition.”
Annabeth rolls her eyes but laughs all the same, watching expectantly as Ruthie marches back to her and hands her a copy of Pippi Longstocking.
Annabeth takes the book, carefully running her hand over the cover. “Where did you find this?”
Ruthie shrugs. “My room.”
“Was it yours?” Percy asks.
Annabeth looks up, smiling as her eyes shine with tears. “It was a gift from my mom the first summer we spent here. I thought I lost it.”
Ruthie stands with her hands behind her back, slowly twirling from side to side. “Will you please read it to me please?”
Annabeth swallows and nods twice. “Nothing would make me happier.”
Annabeth leans on her side, opening the book, and Ruthie lays down to curl into her mom’s side. Percy is overwhelmed, and wonders how a man can possibly survive when his heart is living outside of his body, split up between the two most important people in his life. On instinct, he reaches for his camera and quietly stands to be able to get the perfect picture of his loves.
The camera clicks and Percy knows, without a doubt, that the shot is a winner.

Blue Meeting Blue
AO3 ~~
Pairings: Armin x Annie
Side Pairings: Jean x Pieck / Gabi x Falco:
Words count: 2010
* spoilers for ending of  manga
inspired by this fanart by Bella (_superspicy on twitter)
Summary:
When Annie looked in his eyes, the world stopped spinning, time froze, air halted. The waves in the ocean quietened, the forests' rustles ceased, and the wind subsided. For a moment, peace engulfed the world, the chaotic place wrapped in a fragile silence.
To witness the blossoming love in the youthful hearts.
the day of their wedding was finally here, Armin and Annie, the world waiting for them, and they were ready to face it, as one.
Husband and wife.
a one-shot about Aruani wedding, based on fanart by Bella (_superspicy on twitter)
Tumblr media
His heart drummed in his ears. The lump in his throat enlarged into a coarse rock, impossible to swallow. His throat tight on his windpipes he could barely breathe.
He tried to compile the tips he read a few days earlier; deeply breathing and a smile.
He failed miserably at both.
“Armin?”
He brushed his suit.
“Armin?”
He shifted his weight from one feet to the other.
“Armin!”
“Yes!” Armin jumped, searching around him, catching a few glances from the small crowd.
“Why are you not responding?”
Armin turned around and-
“Oh, Connie, I’m sorry, I’m just- you know, I was just-” Armin shook his head, waiting for Connie to somehow decipher the concoction of words he threw at him.
“It’s ok,” Connie chuckled, running his hand up and down Armin’s back, “it’s your wedding, it’s ok to be nervous.”
Armin thought about it for a moment, clicking his sharp crispy shoes on the wooden floor: “I’m not… I’m not nervous…”
“Excited?” Connie retorted, raising an expecting eyebrow at Armin.
At that, Armin blushed.
“Oh come on,” Connie laughed, nudging Armin, “I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable.”
Armin turned around, combing his hair down with his palms, his eyes scrutinizing the invited. Less than twenty people seated in rows, the joyous anticipating guests shifted in their seats, smiling at Armin and waving. The humble place densed with close friends and family. As ambassadors, their compulsory position obliged them to have another big, huge wedding, inviting the allied nations and every political face ever. A just-for-show kind of celebration, glazed in fake smiles and formalities. Armin and Annie had an innate dislike for these occasions. But they would have to do it either way. For now, they would live every moment of this homely, small wedding.
They didn’t go venue hunting. Historia offered her own warehouse (that was attached to her farm house) to hold their wedding; they couldn’t say no to that.
The warehouse transformed into a cozy, traditional hall, rows of velvety pink chairs aligned in straight lines, breaking in the middle to form a path overlayed with a shiny white carpet, leading up to where Armin was waiting. White flowers decorating the humble place, with golden fabric draped in soft curves. It gave off the family atmosphere Armin and Annie strived for.
They couldn’t have it any better.
Gabi and Falco settled in the last row, Falco shamelessly and most likely unaware of himself openly-swooning over Gabi, both in summer outfits, Gabi’s dress flowered from the top to the bottom, Falco clad in a brown modern suit. Gabi was either oblivious to Falco’s hypnotized state, or she acted oblivious. Armin decided it was the latter.
Jean was sitting beside Pieck, facing away from each other. Armin sighed, they probably got into another fight. Since they started dating two years ago, their relationship had been on and off all the time.
Armin moved on, but the movement of Pieck’s hand took his attention. Slowly, she slithered her hand next to Jean’s, touching it slightly… a moment passed, before Jean sighed, intertwining their fingers.
Armin couldn’t stop the smile pulling at his lips.
A few seats next to them sat Reiner, his mom by his side, passionately whispering something in his ear. Reiner looked so out of it.
When Reiner noticed Armin’s eyes, he smiled, paying him a small wave, with a gesture to his ring finger.
Ah
His mother’s whispers were nothing but pestering him about when he’ll get married. Armin laughed, shaking his head.
Armin’s eyes halted on the first seat at the far right, where his childhood friend sat, clad in a crimson red dress, her hair touching her shoulder, a dust of make up adorning her face. Mikasa smiled at Armin, a proud smile. The proud-mom-smile she wore whenever he did anything she was proud of.
She was proud of everything he did, every single thing he did since they were only nine.
He waved at her, she nodded in response.
He could never forget Mikasa’s reaction when he told her he would propose to Annie.
The tears, the hugs.
Happiness overflowed out of her.
But soon enough, they both crumbled on the floor, hugging each other, sobbing, lamenting whispers escaping them. Eren’s name slipped every now and then.
Armin swallowed, looking at his feet. The bitter sweet roughness of that night would remain in his mind for as long as he lived.
Someone joined the seat beside Mikasa.
It was Hitch.
Gorgeous.
Armin thought. She did look so pretty, her hair slightly curled, in an off the shoulder navy dress that overflowed in a soft skirt.
She waved at him, he smiled and nodded.
Then she winked, raising her thumbs.
Armin furrowed his eyebrows. He didn’t understand, but nodded anyway.
Connie was having enough of Armin’s ignoring game; he cleared his throat and said: “Hey, by the way, how did you ask Mr. Leonhart for his blessings?”
“Oh, uh, well…” Armin started, flashbacks of that day at the forefront of his mind.
Even though they had been engaged for over a year, Armin still remembers that day as if it was yesterday.
Well…
“Well, he said that if I don’t treat Annie well, he will take my life with his own hands,” Armin said, shrugging his shoulders, as if it was the most normal thing in the world.
“What?”
“Yeah, I mean, it was easier than I thought, if I’m being honest with you.”
“Oh God.”
“No it’s not that shocking, besides, he supported me and Annie from the beginning,” Armin replied.
“I can’t believe it,” Connie’s eyes fixated on a spot behind Armin.
“Well, I don’t know what you exactly think of Mr. Leonhart, but-”
Connie clicked his tongue, pointing behind Armin.
Armin turned around and-
It was her.
“Annie…” he whispered.
Standing there, arms tangled by her father's.
A simple dress, a peasant dress; puffy sleeves with ruffled edges that beautified her updo hair. Pastel pink contouring the dress’s folds, adding a variant of flowery accents to it. A tight brown bodice hugged her waist, making the flowy skirt finely pleated into cascading silky waves. Something about it reminded Armin of a field of pink flowers in a spring afternoon.
The slight blush on her cheeks, her bangs framing her face, boldening her beauty.
The memory of gazing at a crystal in a cold basement from a few years ago struck Armin.
But the cold was replaced by warmth.
A warmth that traveled from Armin's toes to the tip of his nose, a feeling he never experienced before. He wanted to scream, jump in his spot, like a toddler in a candy store, but he also wanted to hug himself, cage himself in a corner, and cry.
The warmth reached Armin's eyes, his sight blurring.
His lungs caught fire, and despite feeling suddenly hot, his hands were freezing cold.
A thousand thoughts swarmed his mind in the short period of Annie walking up to him. It took approximately a minute, perhaps two, but for Armin, it felt like eternity. A labyrinthine he was very willingly getting lost in.
When she reached him, at the altar, not a single breath left him. His sight was blurry and eyes burning. His whole body shook with every sob he tried to suppress.
Someone held his hand, Armin looked down, and through his blurry eyes, he saw Mr. Leonhart’s gripping his hand, his hold a bit tight.
Mr. Leonhart took Armin’s hand, raising it. In his other hand, he held his daughter’s hand.
He guided Annie’s hand to Armin’s, placing them on each other, before clasping them in his strong grasp, holding them for a while. He looked at Annie, nodded at her with a smile, before he turned his gaze to Armin.
Mr. Leonhart leaned towards Armin, whispering in his ear: “I would kill you.”
Armin laughed, though his mouth opened but no voice came out.
Mr. Leonhart descended, walking to his seat, dabbing at his eyes.
At that moment, Armin’s world muted into a deafening, incomprehensible line. He took Annie’s hands in his. His eyes went up, from their intertwined hands, up to her collarbone; she wore a simple necklace, a small, silver circular metal hanging from it.
To anyone who wasn’t familiar with Annie, it looked like a normal necklace.
But it wasn’t.
It was her ring.
Her infamous ring.
Armin’s wandering eyes reached Annie’s.
Blue meeting blue.
And that was the last trigger.
Sobs escaped Armin’s lips. He cried, tears flowing and cascading on his cheeks. He didn’t want to cry, it made his eyesight blurry and he wanted to see Annie clearly. He brought his elbow to his eyes, wiping his tears, only for new ones to flood.
He tried to stop them, gritting his teeth, biting at the inside of his cheeks, squeezing his eyes shut.
He couldn’t, all his attempts leading to more sobs and tears.
Warm hands on his face made him flutter his eyes open. With a handkerchief, Annie softly dabbed at his cheeks, a smile small on her lips. Her eyes were glistening as well.
Armin focused on her eyes, and slowly, took deep breaths.
Sobs subsided, and tears stopped streaming down his face, clearing his vision.
She cupped his face in her hands, and brought him down, capturing his lips on her own, a quick kiss, lingering for a bit. Armin kissed her back, closing his eyes briefly, before she pulled away. She pulled far enough to look into his eyes, but close enough to feel his breath on her face.
“Ahem ahem.”
Both almost jumped at the sound, turning their heads. The priest stood there, a smile on his lips.
Only then did Armin and Annie realize that the small crowd was giggling.
“You jumped off a few steps there,” the priest said, nudging his head towards them, eliciting extra chuckles from the crowd.
Armin pressed his lips, looking at Annie. She was already looking at him, her lips pressed as well. They exploded in a fit of laughter, before they calmed down, and the ceremony went on.
From the priest’s concise sentences, Armin presumed that the priest knew that Annie and him couldn’t wait to get married.
Rings slipped in their fingers, in their left hands, so smoothly, as if they were always meant to be.
Armin’s heart beating faster as they tiptoed closer to the ending of the wedding.
“And now,” the priest announced, taking a step back, “you, Armin Arlert, may now kiss the bride!”
They held each other's eyes, before Armin wrapped his arm around Annie’s waist, pulling her closer to him, and kissed her.
They kissed many, many times before.
But that kiss felt different.
Their first kiss as husband and wife.
Armin pressed his lips against Annie’s, feeling her heartbeat against his own wild one.
Cheers and claps erupted from the crowd, quiet sobs mixing with them.
They pulled apart, fighting against the magnetic force drawing them together.
Armin held Annie’s hands in his, running his finger on the ring, glistening in the light.
Annie was his, and he was hers.
“My husband,” she whispered, her voice an inch from breaking into tears.
An involuntary smile pulled at Armin’s lips, before he leaned towards Annie, resting his forehead on hers: “My wife.”
She shook her head, rubbing their foreheads together.
“My wife,” he said again, “my wife,” his voice getting louder, before he turned to the crowd, lifting up their intertwined hands victoriously in the air, screaming out: “my wife!!”
Laughs and more claps burst, guests standing up in the process.
As the bride took the groom’s arm, the newly married couple made their way, taking a new step in their lives, together, forever and ever.
.
.

KW 2021: Role Swap
Day 4 for Kataang Week 2021 hosted by @kataang-week with the prompt Role Swap!
This is taken more in a figurative sense- rather than Katara being the Avatar and Aang her teacher, I wanted to shift their relationship dynamics and just add some pregnancy fluff of course, so enjoy!
Links: FF.net | AO3
Summary: Another year, another summer, another week of prompts celebrating our favorite couple. Kataang Week 2021 Day 4: Role Swap. Expansion upon the Yin/Yang oneshot from KVB 2021. During Katara’s first pregnancy, an interesting change in dynamics occurs.
Word Count: 2.6K
Aang let out a groan as a beam of sunlight shone through the glass window directly onto his face, promptly waking the airbender up. He rubbed his groggy eyes, yawning as his senses awakened, and rolled over onto his side, arms expecting to find his wife’s form peacefully resting next to him.
“That’s weird,” he frowned. Aang patted the empty space again, reaching farther across the bed this time. Nothing.
Aang was naturally quite an early riser, far more so than Katara, and it had become routine for them to cuddle for an hour or two in the mornings before properly getting ready for the day. So where was she?
With a short blast of air from his hands, Aang propelled himself upright so that he was standing on the hard, cold, stone floor of the Air Temple. He closed his eyes in concentration, blocking out all other sounds and sights to focus on the vibrations under his feet.
Aang muttered to himself, eyebrows knitted, “She’s not on this floor… not in the temple at all actually, so where- the spring? What’s she doing there so early?”
Wanting to know what his dear wife was up to, the airbender quickly grabbed some blankets from the cupboard (early mornings on the island tended to be quite chilly) as well as some moon peaches from the kitchen and made his way through the temple corridors until he was standing outside, his natural element instantly surrounding him with a refreshing cool breeze.
“Ah,” Aang sighed, taking a deep breath. He basked in the sun’s rays for a few moments, eyes closed as the sounds of birds chirping and the distant crashing of waves onto the shore filled his ears and relaxed his senses.
Then, remembering why he came out in the first place, the airbender began trekking uphill to the west side of the island, resuming his search for Katara.
In their early days of exploring, the waterbender had discovered a secluded stream hidden in the forest that cascaded into the sea if you followed it far enough. It also had a few natural hot springs along it, and it had quickly become one of Katara’s favorite spots not only to bend and spar, but to also just unwind and relax.
“Kataraaaaa,” Aang called out, pushing away the vines that covered the entrance to her little nook. “Where’d you go, sweetie?” He could hear the burbling of the water as it flowed over the rocks under its surface as well as the soft croaks of the frogs who called it home. He had to be getting close.
“Over here, Aang!”
The airbender’s head perked up in the direction of her voice and he grinned widely when he saw her, pleasantly surprised.
Katara’s eyes were still closed, her features serene from her seat on top of a round, flat boulder overlooking a wider part of the stream. She had obviously been meditating, but that wasn’t quite what shocked Aang the most.
Instead of her traditional fur-lined Water Tribe garb, she was wearing Air Nomad robes in warmer shades of yellow, orange, and dark red like the fall leaves. Her swollen belly poked out from under the loose layers of fabric, and she had never looked so beautiful to Aang (except maybe on their wedding day).
“Hey, Tara,” the airbender murmured, walking up to her. He gave her a hug from behind and pressed a kiss to her temple, one of his hands interlocking with hers around the middle of her stomach while the other rested on top of her bump.
He raised an eyebrow at her. “Quite early to be all the way out here, no?”
Katara slowly fluttered her eyelids open, the corners of her mouth turning up as she leaned back against him. “Well, your child wouldn’t stop kicking me and woke me up, so I figured we’d try and relax for some time.”
Aang pouted. “Why is she always my child when she’s bothering her amazing and beautiful mom?”
“Because he gets it from his dad,” she deadpanned in response.
“Meanie.” Aang gave her a look and stuck his tongue out at her, causing them both to dissolve into laughter.
“Meditating isn’t usually your thing, nor are those,” he pointed out as he gestured to her clothing, an eyebrow quirked. “What brought this on?”
Katara blushed, looking away with a shy smile. “Well, I thought I’d take a page out of your book. Meditating always works for you, so I just figured why not try it? And these I’ve actually been sewing together for the last week or so. I found a pattern in one of the crates we brought over from the Southern Air Temple, and they’re a lot looser and comfier than my normal clothes. I, um, I hope that’s okay?”
“More than okay. The fact that you even cared enough to use the pattern, not to mention how you took my breath away- it’s concerning as an airbender, you know,” Aang grinned as Katara giggled at the last bit.
Suddenly, a frigid gust swept by them, cooling the already chilly morning air and causing the waterbender to shiver as she scooted closer to Aang, seeking his natural body heat.
“Spirits, it’s cold,” she muttered, rubbing her hands up and down the sides of her torso. “I’ve been out of the South Pole too long.”
Aang quickly trotted over to the entrance of the little den where he had set down the blankets and fruits he brought. “I have just the thing.”
He quickly grabbed two of them, one made of polar leopard skins from the Southern Water Tribe and another he had managed to sew using Appa’s shedded fur last spring, and snugly wrapped them around Katara, handing her a moon peach as well as her body warmed back up.
“You really didn’t have to, Aang,” she mumbled, biting into her moon peach and humming contentedly when she tasted its sweetness.
Fruit still in hand, she gave him a slightly awkward side embrace, enveloping him in the blankets with her while he returned the hug and kissed the top of her head, as well as her growing belly.
“Of course I did,” he said looking down at her. “You always work yourself to the bone doing stuff for everyone else, Katara. It’s high time you let someone do the same for you. Especially when you’re carrying such precious cargo.”
Katara rolled her eyes, the pink tint in her cheeks and upturned corners of her mouth giving her true thoughts away.
“Quite the role swap today, eh?” she teased. “Me in airbender robes and meditating while you start to mother everyone?”
“Not everyone,” Aang chuckled. “Just you. You take care of our baby, so I take care of you. Simple as that.”
“And I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Katara sighed. “Can we stay here for a bit?” she asked, leaning into the airbender a little more. “This is nice.”
“It would be my pleasure,” the airbender responded.
The couple did, in fact, end up spending the entire morning at the secluded creek simply relaxing, meditating, and enjoying each other’s company. It wasn’t until Katara’s stomach growled that Aang insisted they head back (“You’re eating for two now, sweetie, c’mon- I’ll even make you some mini fruit pies.”) and have a proper breakfast.
Time quickly flew, and the sun made its way across the cloud-streaked sky as the minutes turned to hours and the afternoon was spent taking a stroll across the island grounds. The training arena and meditation pavilion had been coming along quite nicely, and soon some Acolytes would be able to move in from the other temples, Aang remarked at some point.
Alas, eventually duties called, and by dinner time, the airbender was holed up in his office, back hunched over a stack of documents illuminated by a small candle on his desk.
Though he certainly didn't regret the day's adventures, they had put him back significantly. The council had been assigning more paperwork lately with even tighter deadlines in preparation for the unveiling of new city infrastructure, like the ferry to the island, and it was driving Aang crazy. He barely got any time away from his Avatar duties as it was, and this just added to the pressure.
Ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring!
Aang snapped out of his thoughts, startled by the chimes of the bell tower on the mainland and quickly counted how many he heard.
“12?! ” he thought to himself. “ How is it already midnight? I’m barely halfway through! ”
The airbender groaned, dropping his head onto the desk with a loud thump. All he wanted was to be next to his wife in their bed right now, and he couldn't even have that!
As if telepathically summoned by that last thought, Aang suddenly felt her soft hands on his shoulders, massaging them as they both sighed softly.
"You need a break," she whispered as she alleviated some of the stress held in his back. "You're so tense."
"Believe me, I know," the airbender muttered. "I wish I could just leave this all and take a break from work already."
"Well, why don't you?"
Aang turned his head to look at her as if she had just grown a third arm. "I'm the Avatar. I can't. This needs to be done."
She rolled her eyes, gaze still focused on kneading the knots in his shoulder blades. "Please, the world managed to go an entire century without the Avatar. I'm sure the council members can stand to wait a day without some lousy paperwork."
"But-"
"No buts," Katara harrumphed. "You're the Avatar! You're the one fighting for workers to have shorter work weeks and less hours so that they can be home with their families! Why not apply the same to yourself?"
Aang frowned. She did have a point. Technically speaking, he could easily skive off the paperwork and the council wouldn't be able to do anything. After all, he was the Avatar. Avatar Kuruk certainly had no problem with it (though that was a frequent point of contention between him and the other Avatars).
"People are relying on me to get this done, Tara. I can't disappoint them."
Abruptly stopping her movements on his back, Katara grabbed the documents and held them out of reach of the airbender.
"I'm going to tell you exactly what's going to happen now,” she huffed. “You are going to forget about these documents tonight. Tomorrow, if and when the council asks, you are going to tell them that everyone is taking the next week off because of how overworked they are. But for right now, you are coming with me for some nice, relaxing midnight waterbending. No sparring, just an orb of water back and forth.”
Aang opened his mouth to argue but faltered, seeing the determined look on Katara’s face. Instead, he just shook his head and chuckled.
“My wife, the epitome of responsibility and good work ethic, is not only encouraging, but actively telling me to blow off work and waterbend with her? Who are you and what have you done with Katara?”
The waterbender blushed, but the fire in her eyes did not die down one bit. “Maybe it’s this baby, maybe it’s the full moon, but you were the one who showed me how to have fun when I needed it, Aang. Now it’s my turn to return the favor.”
Aang sighed and set down his pen as he stood up.
“Lead the way.”
Katara eagerly took his outstretched arm and pulled him in the direction of the cove. On the southern tip of the island, surrounded by rocky cliffs on either side, there was a small lagoon, heated by the same source as that of the hot springs along the stream they had visited earlier. As a result, the water was comfortably warm all year round, and was incredibly effective for relaxing the mind, body, and soul.
The two arrived in mere minutes and the heat immediately had its desired effect. Tension evaporated away like water on hot coals as the two entered the steam and began to strip into their waterbending clothes, Katara in her bindings, slightly modified to accommodate her growing bump, and Aang in his undergarments.
The full moon reflected brightly off the surface of the water, creating an almost halo-like effect around the two benders as they entered the shallow end and began passing around a ball of water.
They easily settled into a consistent rhythm, moving back and forth in time with the ocean tide pushing and pulling around their feet. It was almost hypnotic in a way, and the monotonous motion calmed Aang’s erratic thoughts.
His head now far clearer, the airbender flicked his wrist, splashing a bit of water in Katara’s face.
“Did you just-” she asked in shock
He gave her a cheesy grin. “Maybe.”
“Oh, it is on.”
Instead of passing the ball of water back to Aang, Katara held it over his head, smiling devilishly.
“You wouldn’t,” Aang gasped.
“Wouldn’t I?” she smirked.
Without another word, Katara released her hold, and the sphere splashed down onto Aang, leaving the airbender soaked and spluttering.
“Two can play at that game.”
Aang swept his hands from side to side in a large motion that caused the water around Katara to rise higher and higher, soaking her from the hips down.
The waterbender began to form her counter to it, a large wave building behind Aang out of his line of sight, without realizing that the water around her had suddenly receded as he had the same idea.
The two simultaneously released their grips, and their waves swept over both of them, submerging them for all of a few seconds before the water settled and they came up for air. They were left sitting on their butts, completely soaked with their knees and torso mostly submerged, and burst into laughter.
“So much for some peaceful waterbending,” Katara chuckled.
“It may not have been peaceful, but it was exactly what I needed,” the airbender smiled. “Thank you, sweetie.”
“Of course,” she yawned, making Aang yawn as well.
“Looks like it’s time for bed,” he murmured, eyes bleary.
“It’s a warm night,” Katara said as she stood up. “Maybe we could sleep out here?”
Aang quickly strode through the water onto shore, Katara right behind him, and turned towards her, kissing her forehead.
“Cuddling and sleeping under the stars with my beautiful wife? Sounds absolutely perfect. Let me just get some pillows from the temple.”
“Oh, no, Aang, you’re already tired and worked so much today, you don’t have to do that-”
“Ah,” he interrupted. “My job to take care of you. Besides, the jog will help me sleep faster,” he winked, running off towards the spire.
Within a few minutes, he had gone and returned, pillows and blankets in tow, and the two quickly set up a little sleeping area on the beach so that they could finally settle down for the night.
“Ah,” Aang sighed as the two lay down on their sides and began to close their eyes. “The council might be mad, but you know what? Screw it, I’d take waterbending with you over boring paperwork any day."
“Well, I should hope so. I’d like to think I’m more exciting than paperwork,” she smiled, giving him a soft nudge. “You know, it’s not every day we get a whole day like this and it means a lot. You mean a lot. I love you, Aang. I hope you know that.”
“I do,” he smiled and leaned down to press a kiss to her stomach. “I love you too, Katara. You and our precious baby. Sweet dreams, love.”
“Sweet dreams.”

The Tiger and the Oda Princess Ch. 1
This is just a fanfic of how I imagine things might go following Shingen's dramatic route ending. Hope you enjoy! Mature content!
Chapter 1
I woke to the morning sun streaming in through the open window. The fall crisp fall air, filling the room. I rolled over and found that I was alone in the futon, however there was a letter beside me. I opened it up and found Shingen's handwriting.
Good morning, my love. I am saddened by the face that I was unable to be there when you awoke this morning...I miss my good morning kisses and the way you look in the morning light. However Sasuke and Yuki were quite adamant that I could not see you this morning. I am counting the hours until I see you later this afternoon. I would count the seconds, but there are far too many of those. I do hope you got plenty of rest last night because once we are alone, we will have much to celebrate tonight and sleep is not something I plan on either of us having much of. Until our wedding, I will be missing you.
Love,
Shingen
I couldn't help the smile that came to my face. Today was the day we had been planning for the last few weeks. I sat up in bed, the excitement and my happiness overflowing. Just then the door opened and a group of maids were coming in.
"Good morning Lady Ava." Otsuna, an older maid, who I learned had played a large part in helping raise Shingen.
"Good morning, Otsuna." I greeted, smiling brightly.
She returned my smile with a warm one of her own. "We have your breakfast and as soon as you are finished, we will be getting you bathed and ready for the big day."
"Thank you, I really appreciate it." I said, bowing.
Otsuna smiled. "How many times must I tell you, you don't have to bow to me? You are about to marry my lord after all, making you the lady of this castle."
"Probably every day for the rest of time." I answered. "I was raised to show respect to everyone. In my home town station doesn't really matter."
"One of the many reasons we all love you." She replied. "Now hurry up and eat my lady."
I was getting up and eating and soon I was being led out of the room and to the bath. While I normally bathed myself or occasionally was bathed by Shingen when we bathed together...okay that actually happened quite often, but you know sexy times and all...Otsuna and the other maids insisted on bathing me.
"I can't wait to see how this wedding is going to be." Otsuna told me as she washed my hair. "I hear you are blending in some traditions from your hometown?"
"Yes, we are." I answered. "Starting with the one where it is considered bad luck for the groom to see the bride before the wedding."
"You sound quite disappointed with that one." She teased.
"It's silly superstition." I replied. "But then again it is nice to participate in some of the traditions."
"And Master Sasuke will be helping with performing the ceremony how they do in your hometown?" Otsuna asked.
"Yes."
"It's still so strange how you two are from the same place. I mean since it is such a far away place and yet you both ended up here."
Same time. I thought, however only Shingen, Yukimura, and Kenshin knew that. "Yes, life can be funny sometimes."
Once my bath was over, I was getting out and drying off. I was wrapped in a comfy robe and then taken to have my hair and makeup fixed. I insisted on nothing too fancy though. It just didn't feel like me or like Shingen, like us.
My hair was put in a simple yet stylish bun with a golden hair pin that had some small red jewels on it. My makeup was very simple, just a bit of color on my lips and cheeks. Now it was time to get dressed. I couldn't help but to smile as I slipped into the kimono I had made for the wedding.
It was made of the same scarlet color as were pictured in the Takeda banners. I had done some floral embroidery, small and delicate in black and gold thread, just along the hem at the bottom. I wore a black and gold obi sash that was tied by a scarlet cord, matching the scarlet of the kimono.
"You look absolutely beautiful." Otsuna told me, smiling.
"Thank you." I said, seeing the warm affection in her eyes.
Just a few more minutes went by and then I was being led out of the room and to a small garden area, where we had decided to have the wedding. We were blending Sengoku traditions and modern traditions to create our very own unique wedding.
When I walked out to the garden, our closest friends were there waiting for us. Shingen stood, waiting for me. He looked so handsome in the kimono I had made for him. I made it in the same colors as mine, though minus the floral embroidery. He smiled as soon as he saw me and reached out his hand.
I placed my hand in his, returning the happy smile. His large hand enveloped my own and he was leading me to a small table where we knelt down. The table was set up between two trees that formed a natural canopy and with the changing of the leaves, looked breathtaking. Kenshin had surprised me by being there at the table performing a tea ceremony.
We had practiced the steps over and over in the past few weeks. Shingen and I exchanged tea cups as part of the tradition. We finished the tea ceremony and then turned to face each other, knee to knee. Shingen took my hands in his, his eyes locked with mine. Sasuke came up and knelt beside us holding a pillow with two weddings wooden bands Shingen had made for us. The rings were simple and yet absolutely stunning, made from a Japanese Maple and polished up. He had also carved the characters for True Love on the bands.
We had written our own vows for the occasion. "Ava, you came into my life, carrying with you the spark of life. I had long ago resigned myself to fate and yet you changed my fate. You have brought me so much love and joy that I had thought I would never see. You are my goddess, my angel, who has made all of my dreams come true. I swear to you that I will spend the rest of my life giving you the same joy and happiness and loving you every second as you deserve." After pledging his vows to me, Shingen took one of the rings and slid it onto my left ring finger.
I could feel the tears of joy welling up in my eyes. His words had been absolutely beautiful and I knew he truly meant them from his heart. "Well, I don't know how I'm going to follow that up." I found myself saying, making Shingen chuckle and earning a laugh from our gathered loved ones.
Shingen reached up a hand to wipe away my tears and give me an encouraging look.
I smiled at him. "Shingen, I never expected when we met for you to be serious. I took you for a flirt...a handsome flirt, but still a flirt. But then as I got to know you, I couldn't think of anything else but you and wanting to know more. Before I knew it I had fallen completely in love with you. You have made me the happiest I have ever been and I can't imagine being with anyone else. I promise you, I will spend the rest of my life with you, sharing all of the love in my heart and making you as happy as you have made me." I was then taking the other ring from the pillow and placing it on Shingen's left ring finger.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife." Sasuke said. "You may kiss the bride."
Shingen smiled at me as he wrapped his arms around me. "The part I've been waiting for." He said before pressing his lips to mine. The kiss was warm and tender and full of love and joy.
We broke the kiss after a few moments, but Shingen still held me in his arms, looking at me as if no one else were there with us. "My wife." He said, smiling at me.
I couldn't help but to smile back. "My husband."
"You guys do know the rest of us are still here, right?" Yukimura spoke up.
"Cut them a break." Sasuke said. "They did just get married."
"Yeah, but you don't live with them." Yukimura said. "They're always like this."
"I think you forget I spent time with them after Shingen had been healed." Sasuke countered.
"Can we get to the banquet already?" Kenshin asked. "I need some sake...and entertainment before I get bored."
While I could feel my cheeks heating up from bashfulness, I also couldn't help but to laugh at our friends. Shingen joined me in my laughter. "Some things never change." He said. "Alright, let us celebrate!"
We were all heading inside then to the dining hall. Shingen kept his arm wrapped around me as we walked. We all took our seats to enjoy the food and sake. When I went to sit beside Shingen, he surprised me by pulling me into his lap.
"Beside you isn't close enough?" I asked, my tone teasing as I looked up at him.
"Never." He answered, kissing my brow.
"You know, I didn't think they could get any worse and yet here they are." Yukimura complained. Though I could see a smile on his face. He was very happy for us.
"Yuki, you might learn something about women and how to treat them by watching us." Shingen replied, teasing. "If you don't learn, how are you ever going to start a family?"
"I will never understand your obsession with wanting your best vassal to have a family. Having attachments dulls your blade. Look at Sasuke, he's the perfect ninja." Kenshin said. "No attachments and his loyalty is to me."
"I think people fight better when they have someone they love to fight for." Shingen countered. "Besides, love is the best thing life has to offer."
When he said that last part, Shingen hugged me tighter to him. "I can agree with that." I said.
"It appears my goddess is on my side once again." Shingen spoke, smiling.
"Were we in a battle?" Kenshin asked. "If so, we should really put our strengths to the test. You and Yukimura versus me and Sasuke. Then we'll see which one of us is right."
"Sorry, but I have better things to be spending my energy on tonight." Shingen replied and then gave me a wink.
I giggled and my cheeks reddened. Then I looked over at Kenshin. "How about no fighting on my wedding day, okay?"
"Here, have more sake and pickled plums, Lord Kenshin." Sasuke said, pouring Kenshin another cup and handing him another plate full of pickled plums.
The party continued and soon musicians were brought in, which I had not been expecting. It was then that Sasuke was announcing that we would be doing some more traditions from our "hometown."
"What traditions are you talking about now?" I asked, eyeing Sasuke suspiciously. The only ones that really were left that involved the music would be first dance and a father-daughter dance, which we clearly couldn't do as my father was somewhere five hundred years in the future.
"This is usually the point in our hometown where the bride would dance with her father. Since that is not possible in this case, we are changing it up a little." Sasuke declared. He was then walking over to me and offering his hand.
I took his offered hand and allowed him to pull me up. "What are we doing?" I asked.
"You'll be dancing with me, as a big brother of sorts." He answered, leading me out to the middle of the room.
"Awe, Sasuke." I said. feeling myself getting emotional.
"I am quite happy for you, Ava." He told me as we danced. "You and Shingen seem to be perfect for each other."
"Thank you." I said.
We danced for a few more moments before Yukimura was cutting in. "Alright, my turn." He said. "Your next brother."
I smiled at him. "You guys are too sweet."
"Oh for me this is more about torturing Lord Shingen." Yukimura said with a teasing grin.
"What, are you playing keep away with me now, is that it?" I asked.
"Something like that." He answered. He was then looking down at the floor. "Thank you."
"For what?"
"For saving Lord Shingen and for making him so happy." He answered. "I know I give you guys a hard time, but I am really happy for you two."
"I knew you were secretly sweet." I teased.
Yukimura rolled his eyes. "I swear you two were made for each other."
After a moment more with Yukimura, Kenshin was coming up to us. "Okay, my turn."
"You, too?" I asked, very surprised.
"Only because Sasuke and Yukimura promised to train with me later." Kenshin replied, taking my hand in his and pulling me into a dance with him.
I smiled and hid my laughter. Though he said it was for a bribe I knew it was because he actually did care about Shingen and me. "Well, I am happy that you agreed to it."
"Don't be so happy." Kenshin replied. "It will also annoy Shingen and after all that I put up with while he lived in my castle, he deserves a little payback."
"I also wanted to thank you for presiding over the tea ceremony at the wedding. You did a wonderful job and it really means a lot to us." I told him.
Kenshin just sighed. "It wasn't as boring as I expected it to be." Despite his words, he had a tender look on his face.
We danced a few more moments before Shingen was coming up to us. "Alright, I think you have all had your fun in playing keep away with my bride long enough." He said, his tone playful as always.
That was when I saw the look in Kenshin's eyes change. He was then wrapping one arm around my waist and pulling me against him, while drawing his sword with the other. "If you want her back that badly, you'll have to fight me for her. She is my hostage now."
Shingen arched a perfect brow. "I thought we just went over the fact that I will not be spending all of my energy on a fight with you when I have my wedding night with my bride tonight."
"You're cured, aren't you? You should have plenty of energy to spare now that your health has returned." Kenshin countered.
"Come on, that's enough Kenshin. Put the sword away and let me go." I said, biting back laughter. It was strange how this had all become normal to me.
"This bastard owes me a fight." Kenshin said, looking at Shingen.
"Lord Kenshin, I already promised to train with you if you behaved." Sasuke said.
"But we train all the time. I haven't had a good fight with my greatest rival in ages." Kenshin countered.
"Just let Ava go already." Yukimura said. "Besides you won't just be fighting Sasuke, you'll be fighting me too. I can probably convince a few others to join in. Make it a real challenge for you."
"Just come and drink your sake for now. We'll train tomorrow." Sasuke said, acting as the amazing handler he was. "With Shingen's permission maybe we can even explore the ceilings here. I can even set some traps for you."
Kenshin sighed and released me, putting his sword away. "Alright." He was then walking away to take his seat once more.
Shingen then pulled me into his arms smiling. "And here I thought we could get through one evening without Kenshin pulling out his sword."
"It wouldn't be a party if he didn't." I replied, as we began to sway to the music. "It makes sense now why he agreed to the dance, though."
Shingen laughed. "You don't realize how much everyone else cares for you, too." He replied. "If I'm not careful there's a line of men who would gladly steal you from me."
"I doubt that." I replied. "But in any case, you're the only one for me. There's no one else I'd rather spend my life with."
Shingen lifted a hand to cup my cheek. "You keep speaking like that and I'll have to take you from this party early." He said, his voice low and seductive.
"And that would be a bad thing?" I asked playfully, desire already sparking in me with the promise of his words.
"Well, there are a couple of more surprises that I don't think you'll want to miss." Shingen replied.
"Like what?" I asked.
"We had some gifts sent over...from Azuchi." He answered.
My eyes widened in surprise. "Really? I know in my last letter to them I told them we were getting married...but we hadn't figured out when yet."
"I wrote them." Shingen answered. "For obvious reasons, I couldn't invite any of them, but I did want to have something for you. I know you care about them."
I felt myself tearing up. At Shingen's thoughtfulness of writing to Nobunaga and the others even though they were still enemies. And at my friends' thoughtfulness to send a gift even though I was marrying their enemy. I had no words. I just stretched up and gave Shingen a kiss. "Thank you." I said to him.
"Anything for you my princess." He told me, kissing my brow.
It was then that the gifts were being brought in. One of the gifts was a delicious dessert prepared by Masamune. The other was several bolts of fabric that they had sent for me in my work. There was also a letter, which I read.
Ava,
Though your choice in a husband is one we can't agree with, we all wish you well and only want you to be happy. We hope to have another visit from you to Azuchi soon. Lord Nobunaga has kept your room at the castle as you left it and it will always remain here for you. Should you ever come to your senses to leave Shingen, we will welcome you back here with open arms.
Your friends and family always,
Nobunaga
Hideyoshi
Mitsunari
Mitsuhide
Masamune
Ieyasu
"I can't say that was the most flattering letter." Shingen said. "But as I told you earlier, there is a line of men ready to take you away from me should I give them the chance."
"No one can take me from you." I told him, folding the letter up and putting it away. "My heart is yours, along with the rest of me."
Shingen smiled at me, pulling me close. He gently kissed me on the lips. "As I am yours." He said, but there was a fire in his eyes.
I could see the emotions there, all mixing. Love, passion, desire, and a hint of jealousy. I found my own desire sparking, a roaring flame deep within me at that look. I felt heat through my kimono wherever he touched me.
"I think it is time we call it a night and go to our room." He said in that seductive purr.
I nodded. "Yes."
Shingen turned to everyone. "Thank you all for coming to help us celebrate. Stay and enjoy the food and sake for as long as you like. Good night." He was then sweeping me up into his arms and carrying me out of the room.
As soon as the doors were closed behind us and we were in the main hall, Shingen's lips were on mine in a passionate kiss. I wrapped my arms around him, pulling myself as close as possible to him. We broke the kiss, but he kept me in his arms and carried me all the way to our room. He didn't set me down until we were to the futon. Then he was over me.
We were a tangle of limbs as we kissed once again. Shingen's hands expertly untied my obi as his lips traveled down my neck and then back up it to my ear. "I almost forgot to tell you how beautiful you look tonight." He whispered to me. "It's almost a shame to undress you after you worked so hard on our wedding clothes...almost."
I shivered as his words washed over me. I was sliding my hands to untie his kimono as well. Soon we had each other bared and we were skin to skin. Shingen raked his teeth over my ear, where he knew I was so sensitive. His hands enveloped my bared breasts, all eliciting moans from me.
"I have so much to make up for from not getting to love you last night." He murmured, his warm breath washing over my flesh. He pulled back to look at me, his gaze all fire and love. He took a teasing finger and ran it from the base of my throat, between my breasts, and over my stomach.
I shivered in response to his touch. My eyes were already half-lidded with the pleasure that coursed through my body. Oh the things his touch does! I thrilled internally. "Sometimes the anticipation helps to build the pleasure." I replied, coyly.
Shingen gave me a wicked smile. "Is that so?" He was then leaning over me, kissing my neck. He rested a hand on my thigh, his thumb rubbing in circles teasingly close to my inner most heat and yet just staying out of reach.
I gasped. "What are you doing?" I asked, though I already knew.
Shingen smiled at me. "Using anticipation to build your pleasure." He answered.
"More like teasing me to frustrate me." I said.
Shingen chuckled and leaned in once again, kissing my neck. He then brought his thumb to that sensitive cluster of nerves and continued that circular motion he had been doing on my thigh. He then thrust a finger inside, working up a rhythm.
"Ah...Sh...Shin...gen!" I cried out as he finally gave me what I most craved.
I felt his lips curve into a smile on my neck. "I can deny my princess nothing." He whispered to me as he continued to work me.
All too soon he withdrew his fingers from me. I was about to pout when I felt him position himself between my parted legs, wrapping them around his hips. He was then filling me in a more complete way.
My bucking hips met each of his powerful thrusts. We were lost to pleasure, neither of us able to speak only gasps and moans escaped our lips as we crested that wave of ecstasy together.
We spent the rest of the evening making love like this before finally collapsing and falling asleep in each others embrace. I had never felt more happy or more loved.
