omgggggggggg i just got some context, i think……………….omg
so sjwnsjajs okay i was friends with band 1. they introduce me to band 2. the lead singer of band 2 is 😳🥵, but he had a girlfriend so i would simp over him jokingly, and in private, to band 1. like….i didn’t actually know him as a person, but duskwksjwjs he was so cute and had a lot of my same interests (and he knew enough abt green day to be following longshot on instagram which is IMPRESSIVE to me).
okay so there’s smth b/w me and bassist of band 1. and the lead singer of band 1 and the lead singer of band 3 get a fwb thing going on and then have a weird breakup. band 3 starts to blow uppppp even though they were established after band 1 and band 1 would have them open for them and get them gigs sometimes. and band 1 is kinda resentful of this.
WELL. i just found out that the lead singer from band 2 (who i simped over) joined band 3……so that’s why there’s all those lyrics on the playlist hinting at a situation like that……like i never simped over bassist from band 1 or anything, stuff just kinda happened…..but i was sooooo 😍 for lead singer of band 2, and i can see why band 1 guy would be resentful
and this makes literally no sense to anyone but myself but i had to write it out

WAIT what did destroy boys do? am i gonna be fooled once again :_(
Tw for mentions of grooming, abuse, and sexual assault
If you’re not aware of the SWMRs situation from last year, basically Joey Armstrong was grooming Lydia Knight from The Regrettes, she was 16 at the time and he was 22. The relationship was abusive as well. He would constantly pressure her into sexual situations when she was 1. A minor and 2. Not comfortable with it. This was happening whilst SWMRs, The Regrettes, and Destroy Boys were all on tour together. Destroy Boys KNEW about what was happening between the two and remained complicit and silent because of “the opportunities they were getting from that tour”
Vi also very publicly mocked and shamed Lydia constantly before Lydia came forward. Vi would often draw X’s under her eyes to mock the way Lydia drew hearts under her eyes during shows. Vi also perpetuated the rumor that The Regrettes are white supremacists which is not true
Vi also called the cops on a fan after they had a breakdown and this person was forcibly put in a hospital because of this
Narsai, their drummer, also has abuse allegations. No one in the band has said anything about him and he is still in the band
Destroy Boys did apologize for everything and said that they don’t condone Joey’s actions, but they still Knew about what was happened and stayed silent on it until it blew up in their faces. They also never apologized to Lydia for the rumors they spread about her
Their bassist at the time, Falyn, was touring with them when this happened but was the only one of the four not aware of what was happening so her band, Grumpster, is still in the clear as far as I’m aware
It’s not uncommon for people to forgive them as they are all young and donated a large sum of money to orgs, but the level of hypocrisy is just too much for me to support them personally
Here are some links to Lydia and the one fans posts about it, again tw for everything above

Attila - Closure
Tumblr media
Tracklist:
Anxiety
Empty Clip
Metalcore Manson
Day Drinking
Broke & Happy
G-Squad
Shots for the Girls
Viva Las Vegas
Cancelled
Clarity
Now I’m here to talk about the music, however in order to do this there needs to be awareness raised about some of the controversies that have been raised about this band, most recently their new single “Metalcore Manson” from this album has been called out for not only being misogynistic in it's lyrical content but also in poor taste given the sexual misconduct that is coming out about Marilyn Manson at the moment, whilst they say it's not about him it's Charles Manson they used a font formerly used by Marilyn Manson on the single cover so take from that what you will. Also there have been sexual misconduct and rape allegations against the singer Chris Fronzak, the bassist Kalan Blehm and they fired their drummer Bryan McClure because of allegations made by an ex-girlfriend. Again, look into that and see where you stand but amongst all the controversy I’m here for the music, this is their 9th full length studio album since forming in 2005, lets see if it’s any good.
“Cancelled” is more of a fuck you to those who in 2020 the guys percieved to be trying to cancel them over sexual assault allegations, which if innocent is a very good and historically sound way to get that point across, and more of the whole cancel culture that has developed over the past few years, not sure if I can agree with everything these guys write about but it's hard to deny that the shit is addictive and musically really appealing. “Clarity” is possibly the only 1 of the 3 new singles that I can really get into properly, that chorus gives me big Linkin park vibes whereas the verses are so crushing they could probably be classed as assaulting your ear drums but in a way in which you really don’t mind. “Metalcore Manson” is a very Nu-Metal style track, it's got thick riffs and some great vocal work it's just a shame about those lyrics but it's nothing particularly newly shocking because hip hop and rap have been covering the same things for years and the themes are always going to come up when talking about Charles Manson, but I cannot see how they’re trying to say that this song isn’t anything to do with Marilyn Manson because it just seems to scream his name to me especially when I think about the video for “Tainted Love”. “Viva Las Vegas” is written about an incident that happened when the band played a show in Vegas - no shit - back in 2018 and there was quite the altercation between members of the band and the security team who subsequently sued them for it, a bit like how BMTH wrote “No Need for Introductions, I've Read About Girls Like You on the Backs of Toilet Doors”, I really enjoyed it, this song was quite fun and bouncy. “Day Drinking” is a nice heavy party song with plenty of sleazy guitar tones and licks, a good hearty party song with a southern twist. “Anxiety” lyrically is a good summary of how it feels to have extreme anxiety, and the heaviness they utilise gives another side to the condition showing clear sadness and frustration regarding the feelings and thoughts that present with the ever increasingly awful affliction.
The notoriety continues with this latest collection, I don’t think it’ll do much to hinder their progress in the scene, it's the kind of thing they’ve become known for, their musical ability is something else and I think tackling the sorts of issues and themes that they do is what draws people in and keeps them around. I’ll definitely be going to see them when they next come around.

Weekend Picks: 1/10-1/12
Tumblr media
Cracker’s David Lowery & Johnny Hickman; Photo by Bradford Jones
BY JORDAN MAINZER
This weekend, take your pick of alt rock, country, and intimate indie rock.
1/10: Set It Off, The Forge
Since we last previewed the Tampa pop rock band, they’ve changed from a quartet to a trio (guitarist Dan Clermont left after sexual assault accusations), and vocalist Cody Carson had to postpone tour dates due to surgery on a vocal hemorrhage. Yet, they’ve also moved on, surprise releasing two new tracks (the “told you so” chant “Catch Me If You Can” and snappy anthem “So Predictable”) for an album called After Midnight, which they’ve not detailed (sequel? deluxe edition? B-sides?).
Orlando rock band Sleeping With Sirens headlines. Local pop punks Belmont and LA alt rockers Point North also open.
1/11: Caroline Spence, Lincoln Hall
Back in May, we interviewed country singer-songwriter Caroline Spence about her great new album Mint Condition, which came out last year. Expect to hear many of those songs tonight at Lincoln Hall in an opening set.
Nashville singer-songwriter Ron Pope headlines.
1/11 & 1/12: Pedro the Lion, Living Room Show
A year ago saw David Bazan return to playing under the Pedro the Lion moniker and the first album released under it in 15 years, Phoenix. A couple months ago, Brandon Vedder shared his documentary Strange Negotiations about Bazan reckoning with life and spirituality in today’s political climate. (Bazan famously revoked his long held Christian beliefs when he initially discarded the moniker.) This weekend, Bazan plays 4 solo Living Room Shows in Illinois, in Rockford and Glen Ellyn on Saturday, and two Chicago shows on Sunday (in Logan Square and Humboldt Park). Expect to hear lots of Phoenix but some older material, under both PtL and his own name, too.
1/12: Cracker, Lincoln Hall
You probably know Cracker best from their radio hits: “Teen Angst (What The World Needs Now)” from their self-titled debut, and “Low” and “Euro-Trash Girl” from their breakout follow-up Kerosene Hat. While neither this band nor Camper Van Beethoven (lead singer David Lowery’s other alt-rock band, who co-headlines) have released a studio album since 2014, Cracker’s last one was actually pretty good. Double LP From Berkeley to Bakersfield was partially recorded with bassist Davey Faragher and drummer Michael Urbano, members of the band during the Kerosene Hat era. As such, it sounds pretty classic. While neither of those individuals are in the band today, Cracker’s Lincoln Hall set should constitute songs from their best records: Cracker, Kerosene, and Berkeley, though it will pull from their entire discography.

‘YOU GROPED MY WIFE’: Ace Frehley accuses Gene Simmons of sexual assault
‘YOU GROPED MY WIFE’: Ace Frehley accuses Gene Simmons of sexual assault ‘YOU GROPED MY WIFE’: Ace Frehley accuses Gene Simmons of sexual assault https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Ace Frehley has accused his former Kiss bandmate Gene Simmons of “groping” his wife in a scathing social media post.
Simmons hit headlines on Tuesday after he gave an interview with Guitar World in which he said his former bandmate had been fired from the rock band three times for “drugs, alcohol, bad behaviour” and would happily have him briefly appear during KISS’ End Of The Road farewell tour but he couldn’t be relied upon to last a full set and would never be welcomed back into the group.
Frehley responded by posting a scathing message on Facebook in which he made a host of allegations about the bassist, including claims Simmons once propositioned his wife.
“Today’s comments have made me realize you’re just an a–hole and a sex addict who’s being sued by multiple Women, and you’re just trying to sweep it all under the carpet!” he wrote. “The icing on the cake was when you groped my wife and propositioned her in Los Angeles at the Capitol Records building behind my back, when I was trying to help you out at one of your ‘Vault Experiences’ which I only found out about several weeks later…she was planning on pursuing a suit against you, but I told her to call it off!!!”
It is not clear which partner Frehley is referring to in his post. He is thought to be still legally married to his first wife Jeanette Trerotola, and has been engaged to Rachael Gordon since 2010.
//<![CDATA[ ( function() { pnLoadVideo( "videos", "GhCuHCicheE", "pn_video_614449", "", "", {"controls":1,"autoplay":0,"is_mobile":""} ); } )(); //]]>
In December Simmons was sued for sexual battery for allegedly groping an employee at one of his restaurants in 2016. Earlier last year he settled another sexual assault lawsuit from an unnamed woman who accused him of making “several aggressive, unwanted sexual advances” toward her in 2017.
In his Facebook post, Frehley claimed he was never fired from KISS, but quit twice. He said Simmons and Paul Stanley had “tried to derail my solo career multiple times”, and that their comments about his substance abuse problems have “cost me millions of dollars” even though he’s been sober for 12 years.
He concluded, “Well now the gloves are off after your terrible comments today and I’m thinking that this really may be ‘The End Of The Road Tour’ for you guys!!!… Without a complete and heartfelt apology, an offer to give me my old job back, and removing Tommy (Thayer) from the Throne that I created… THE S— WILL HIT THE FAN AND THEY’LL BE NO STOPPING IT-IT’S ON!!!”

Florida voters are still casting ballots in the race for governor, but already some liberals can’t help but ask: Could Democrat Andrew Gillum be their answer to 2020?
The 39-year-old, African-American mayor of Tallahassee is in a dead heat with white, 40-year-old pro-Trump Republican Ron DeSantis. Gillum lit up national progressives by pitching Texas voters an unabashedly progressive platform, including Medicare-for-all, environmental protections, and criminal justice reform. He picked up Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-VT) endorsement early in the primary and he built on that momentum.
Gillum rejected the strategy Democrats have used for years in red or purple states. Instead of racing to the center in hopes of peeling off centrist Republicans (and often losing by a few points anyway), Gillum is taking the path the new progressive left craves.
“I believe that we are running as the most unapologetically progressive candidate because I believe that is how we are going to win the state of Florida — by leaning into who we are and not against who we are,” Gillum said on a debate stage.
“We should never apologize for our progressive values. When we pretend to be center right in general elections, we lose,” he said in a tweet. “I’m sick of losing.”
The Florida race has become a 2020 presidential test-case for Democrats, pitting a new left candidate against a Trump ally in a big, diverse, swing state won by Donald Trump in 2016. Gillum himself has an even more literal link — he’s a candidate who liberals love to drop into the 2020 speculation game.
wow! Forget Florida although I have lots of family there. Save the nation! #Gillum2020
— Mimi Negron (@mimi_hern) August 29, 2018
Gillum’s campaign spokesperson Johanna Cervone responded to a question about the 2020 buzz saying, if he wins Tuesday, his “focus and priority will be Florida.”
The fact that progressives are musing, even jokingly, about a candidate who is still running in a 2018 election (and who is not guaranteed to win on Tuesday), shows how much they want not only to beat Trump in 2020, but to remake the Democratic Party to do it.
Gillum has set himself apart from of a handful of progressive stars lighting up the left this year. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, 29, and Beto O’Rourke of Texas, 46, won progressives over by jumping into what looked like doomed races and running as skeptics of the establishment and carriers of the progressive cause.
And they’re just plain cool.
Democratic presidential candidates have to energize a diverse group of constituencies, more so than Republicans, whose party is much more homogeneous. The cool factor has helped the most successful modern Democratic presidents transcend the different groups. John F. Kennedy, Bill Clinton (believe it or not, young millenials, he was cool in his day, even if people are reluctant to be around him these days), and Barack Obama all had it.
Ocasio-Cortez, a democratic socialist, defeated Rep. Joe Crowley, a powerful establishment Democrat who is a close ally of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, in a primary victory so stunning it caught her own party by surprise.

She earned a Sanders endorsement early, and she’s gone on to campaign alongside him for other liberal candidates. She likes to speak for a new generation of young voters she urges to step up: “For young people, the thought of maintaining the status quo for our entire lives is unthinkable,” she tweeted recently. “More than anyone else, WE will have to live in the future our politicians are creating. And the one they’re making now is completely unsustainable. Together we can change that.”
Young people are listening. She thrills her supporters with charisma, including on Twitter where she brushes off haters with modern finesse.
In one popular exchange, she responds to conservative criticism that she her populist values were insincere because she was photographed in an expensive suit for Interview magazine. She shot back that, you don’t get to keep the clothes!, concluding: “Get used to me slaying lewks because I am an excellent thrift shopper.”
Own your power. For so many, it’s radical to feel comfortable in your own skin – and to know that you are more than…
Posted by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Friday, September 7, 2018
O’Rourke is challenging Republican Sen. Ted Cruz in Texas. O’Rourke is still down in almost every poll against Cruz, who is loved in his home state, but regardless of how he performs Tuesday, he’s inspired liberals nationwide for his brash campaign.

O’Rourke is undeniably cooler than the incumbent. NBA superstar LeBron James and San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich have sported “BETO” hats at practice and Texas games. In his 20s, O’Rourke was the bassist in a punk band. A video of him skateboarding at a Whataburger after one of his debates against Cruz has gone viral. Even several attempted burns by the Texas GOP team led to this reaction:
Based on the reaction to our tweets we can confirm that Beto is in fact going to receive 100% of the vote from Buzzfeed contributors, out of state liberals, and people who use the word “rad.” We feel very owned :'(
— Texas GOP (@TexasGOP) August 29, 2018
Gillum, a telegenic man with a clear, sure voice that could fit in on public radio, recently turned to his opponent, DeSantis, during a debate and knocked him down so casually and so authentically that a clip of it went viral. “Now, I’m not calling Mr. Desantis a racist,” Gillum said. “I’m simply saying the racists believe he’s a racist.” It was a mic drop moment.
While all three of these stars are popular, Gillum is emerging as the big national hope. If he wins, he’ll have shown he can win a big diverse swing state state by carrying the progressive flag.
Ocasio-Cortez comes from a very liberal district, which doesn’t give her a chance to show whether she has broad appeal. O’Rourke, who was the early progressive breakout star, has a tougher climb to victory. As political scientist Philip Klinkner joked on Twitter: “Tired: Beto 2020. Wired: Gillum 2020.” (If Beto wins, he’ll surely be right back alongside Gillum.)
Trump carried Florida with 49 percent of the vote (to Clinton’s 47.8 percent), clocking the states 29 electoral votes to his column. As governor, Gillum could help boost a Democratic candidate; as the candidate, he could, potentially, carry it outright in a critically important state.
Democrats aren’t shy about telling pollsters how they really feel about Trump. In a Pew Research Center study released in June, just 6 percent of liberal Democrats said they approved of the president’s performance.
But as much as the mobilization on the left is about stopping Trump, the progressive enthusiasm is about the future of the Democratic Party. The left wants change, especially after 2016.
The progressive left saw Hillary Clinton as an encapsulation of the establishment, literally a participant in building the architecture of the party. They believe the establishment is too close to corporate America. (Clinton spent time with lobbyists and big donors during the campaign and she took big bucks from banks to give speeches after she left the State Department.) And they think it’s too quick to sell out to the right.
Sanders took on Clinton from her left, challenging her on not only policy, but on her fundraising tactics and her affiliation with banks. Ultimately, Clinton won the nomination, but Sanders won the party’s future.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Democratic governor-hopeful Andrew Gillum during a campaign rally in Tampa, Florida, on August 17, 2018. Chris O’Meara/AP
His views have reshaped the party almost across the board. Most of the likely Democratic hopefuls have moved further left than Clinton’s starting point in 2016, adopting Sanders’s positions on health care and other issues. The Democratic presidential primary is shaping up to be a fight over ideas all rooted in progressive politics.
But on the question of the establishment, most of the field is in a poor position to make that claim. If a candidate backed Clinton over Sanders — and many high-profile Democrats did — they’ll have trouble claiming status as a member of the new left.
A few hopefuls can point to a record of bucking the party. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) was the conscience of Obama in the Senate during his two terms. But years have gone by since then. She will need to distinguish herself as someone other than a US senator, particularly after backing Clinton over Sanders.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren speaks in the Democratic Outreach Team’s room at her campaign headquarters in Dorchester, Massachusetts, on October 12, 2018. Hadley Green/Washington Post/Getty Images
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) stood up to many in her own party in pushing out Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) over sexual assault allegations. She made sexual assault in the military a national issue. She even called out Bill Clinton. But she is still a US senator, one who signed on to the Clinton campaign early.
Overall, aside from Sanders himself, the field of likely contenders will have trouble running as outsiders.
If Gillum wins, he wouldn’t carry the same baggage. Like Obama, who got to run as an opponent to the Iraq War and a Washington outsider, Gillum could run as a post-Clinton-era progressive, a fresh face who is ready for a new Democratic Party. He got an early Sanders endorsement, too.
“It’s an honor to have Senator Bernie Sanders’ endorsement in this campaign,” Gillum said in a statement. “He has been an unapologetic fighter for everyday working people standing up to the special interests. From Medicare-for-All, to a $15 minimum wage, his ideas and platform have become the Democratic Party’s north star on economic justice for those who need it most.”
Gillum did literally support Clinton in 2016, and he was name-dropped as a possible vice presidential running mate. And he’s under the cloud of an FBI investigation, which is looking at corruption in the city of Tallahassee, including during his years as mayor.
He represents what progressives are hoping for, though. Gillum is a fresh national face who would take the Democratic Party in a new direction, and he’d be the opposite of Trump.

Murder they wrote – and mostly, the celebs played out the murder onscreen or tried to appear murderous in their sports’ professions, or hell, even sang about slashing and clobbering and all things bloody and gory. But sometimes, the blood spilled into their real lives – and many either ended up dead or became murderers themselves. Whether it was the fame or the adulation that turned them into stone-cold killers, or just obsessive love that got them killed instead, what we usually see onscreen in movies became real life for many of them. And these celebrities were not murdered by strangers but by their loved ones, their better halves, or rather their worse halves. And if these celebs killed, they killed their partners too – and sometimes also their children. Why do people do this, why do they kill the ones they swore to love and protect all their lives? Psychiatrists and mental health experts may have fancy terms for this deranged behavior, but for the world in general – these are the famous people who flipped and slipped up bad – and either killed their spouses or got killed instead. Their stories are tragic and sad and became fodder for the media as well as for the general public – examples of how not to live your life. These are 15 celebrities who murdered their partners, and some who got murdered themselves and left behind a legacy of pain, betrayal, and tragedy.
#1 Chris Benoit: Murdered His Wife, His Son & Then Offed Himself Chris Benoit was a professional wrestler with a 22-year-old career behind him, and many considered him one of the greats. He held 22 championships between WWF/WWE, WCW, NJPW, and ECW. He was a two-time world champion, having been a one-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion, and a one-time World Heavyweight Champion in WWE and was even set to win a third world championship – that is the day he died. When he did not show up for the match and all calls went unanswered, the police were asked to do a welfare check on him. And the authorities discovered the dead and bound body of Benoit’s wife Nancy, the body of their seven-year-old son Daniel, and finally Chris’ body. Nancy had been bound, wrapped in a towel and asphyxiated while Daniel too had been strangled, though toxicology revealed that they both had been drugged as well. And then two days later, Chris Benoit used a weight machine to break his own neck. No suicide note was ever found – though many theories of this murder-suicide popped up: steroid abuse, brain damage, and a failing marriage. Benoit’s brain scan later showed his brain to be equal to that of an 85-year-old Alzheimer’s patient, a result of a lifetime of concussions and injury! A sad legacy for a bright star…
#2 Oscar Pistorius: Once Hailed A Hero, Now Just A Murderer Who hasn’t heard of Oscar Pistorius? The world praised his good looks and his zeal – and everyone found him heroic when this double-amputee competed against and won in the non-disabled sprinter category in the World Championships in athletics and also became the first double amputee to participate in the Olympics. To top it all off, he was in a loving relationship with model Reeva Steenkamp and all seemed glorious in his life. Till one dark day, or rather one loving day that turned very, very dark for Reeva – Oscar Pistorius shot her four times, on Valentine’s Day in 2013 at their Pretoria residence. His line of defense? He mistook her for an intruder. However, there were some messages from Reeva on Oscar’s phone in which she wrote that his anger scared her. Oscar was first found not guilty and sentenced to a reduced five-year sentence of culpable homicide, however in 2016, the sentence was appealed by the prosecution and he was found guilty of murder and sentenced to six years imprisonment.
#3 Sid Vicious: The Punk Rocker Who Lived Up To His Stage Name, Or Did He? Sid Vicious (John Simon Ritchie) was the bassist of the punk rock group Sex Pistols and like most musicians, he was hooked on drugs as well. Nancy Spungen was a sometime stripper, sometime prostitute and full-time groupie who followed band members around and soon entered into a relationship with Sid – and that was the beginning of the end of Sid and Nancy. Frankly, Nancy was no angel – rather a troubled, schizophrenic drug addict prone to violent outbursts for which the press had dubbed her Nauseating Nancy. Young, restless and always high, Sid and Nancy were the couple from hell and one day , it all turned deadly. Sid woke up after a drug stupor to find Nancy dead under the bathroom sink – with a single stab wound to the abdomen. Sid confessed, recanted, said he didn’t do it but was finally arrested for her murder. Four months later he made bail and celebrated with a party – only he never lived to see the morning and OD’d on heroin. Many claimed theirs was a suicide pact while others believe that a drug dealer named Michael had murdered Nancy and stolen money while Sid was out cold. The truth died with Sid and Nancy though.
#4 OJ Simpson: Did He Or Didn’t He? The Trial of the Century: the OJ Simpson case was when he was accused of stabbing his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman to death, just outside her home. Frankly, OJ and Nicole had always had a high-strung relationship full of fights, violence, and assault – and even having two kids did not simmer down things. They got married, divorced, and were planning to reconcile when Nicole’s life ended. For reasons no one ever understood, OJ was acquitted of the murders but later found liable in the wrongful death of Goldman, and of battery against Nicole. OJ never could bounce back from what happened – multiple lawsuits took away most of his money and money-making rights, and then he was arrested for robbery and sentenced to prison, where he still remains. He may have escaped his murder charge, but life has been justifiably tough for him – and many believe that he did indeed do it.
#5 Brynn Hartman: When Drugs Make You Kill Your Husband And Orphan The Kids Phil Hartman was an Emmy Award-winning actor and screenwriter and an all-around funny guy from Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons. In 1987, Phil married aspiring actress Brynn Omdahl, and the couple went on to have two children and plenty of fights over Brynn’s non-launching career, Phil’s success, and Brynn’s alcohol and narcotics problems. Phil had been supportive but her multiple stints in rehab and relapses had forced him to give her an ultimatum – one more slip up and it was all over. In 1998, Phil and Brynn again exchanged heated words over her drug usage. Brynn was enraged and, high on drugs and booze, shot a sleeping Phil at around three in the morning. She went to a friend’s house and confessed and they both drove back to check on Phil. The friend called 911 but by the time the police arrived, Brynn had locked herself in the bedroom and shot herself with the same gun – leaving both their kids orphaned in one drug-fueled rage.
#6 Paul Snider: You’re Leaving? Let Me Kill You First Paul Snider was a sleazy scumbag who somehow managed to make pretty girl Dorothy Stratten fall in love with him. He got nude pictures of the young woman and then sent them to Playboy. Dorothy became Playmate of the Month and they got married. Frankly, this could have been an X-rated happily ever after story except that Dorothy Stratten’s newfound fame and movie role put her in touch with director Peter Bogdanovich, with whom she began an affair. She was named Playmate of The Year and had just finished shooting a movie with Ingrid Bergman (directed by Peter), They All Laughed. Estranged from Paul, she filed for divorce but that was the last straw. Paul armed himself with a 12-gauge Mossberg shotgun, raped her, killed her, and then sexually abused her corpse – after which he offed himself with the same shotgun. Dorothy was just 20.
#7 Earl Hayes: From Music To Jealousy-Fueled Madness Earl Hayes was a budding rapper and was married to beautiful, if cheating, spouse, dancer Stephanie Moseley, since 2008. The couple had a tumultuous on-and-off relationship, and Earl was particularly crushed by an affair that Stephanie had with singer Trey Songz some two years back. The couple had decided to reconcile recently but it was apparent that Earl was having a very tough time trying to forgive and forget Stephanie’s affair. At the time of the alleged murder-suicide, Earl was Facetiming with boxer Floyd Mayweather and swearing about how he wanted to kill his wife. Reportedly Floyd begged him not to do anything violent but in a fit of rage, Earl went and shot his wife who was in the bathtub at the time. He then later spoke to Floyd again and then went on to kill himself with the same gun. At the time, Earl was facing a budding career and Stephanie was the star of the faux-reality VH1 series Hit The Floor. None of them could even reach the heights of stardom they wanted to, and their deaths only made them infamous…
#8 Robert Blake: When All Is Not Bonnie & Well Robert Blake, born Michael James Gubitosi, was an actor who first appeared in movies starting back in 1939 and he carried on all the way till 1997. Known for being a child actor and then a character actor, he was also the lead star in the TV series Baretta where he played Detective Anthony Vincenzo “Tony” Baretta. All his life though, Robert Blake was plagued with one problem after another and the moment he got success, he went on a violent binge or into depression. After divorcing his first wife, Robert entered into a relationship with Bonnie Lee Blakely who was known for exploiting older men and was also in a relationship with Marlon Brando’s son, Christian. After Bonnie gave birth to a daughter that paternity tests proved was Blake’s, they married but Blake never entirely trusted her. In 2001, Blake took Bonnie out for a dinner and when she was sitting in the car, waiting for him, she was shot in the head. Robert was tried for her murder but extenuating circumstances got him a not guilty verdict from the jury. Later he was sued by Bonnie’s three other children (from other fathers) and held responsible for her death – and ordered to pay them $30 million, upon which he declared himself bankrupt…
#9 Michael Jace: From Reel Life Cop To Real Life Convict Michael Jace is an American actor and probably best known for his work as Los Angeles police officer Julien Lowe in the FX drama The Shield. He even played Michael Jordan for a TV movie, and also co-starred with Russell Crowe in State of Play. He and his wife April Jace had been married for almost eleven years and had two young sons together when one fateful day, May 19, 2014, Michael shot and killed his wife. He then called the police and reported the domestic disturbance, confessing to having shot her. The police arrived to find April Jace, an American masters track and field athlete, dead of multiple gunshot wounds. Later it was speculated the Michael Jace, known to be a loving husband and a devoted father, was under considerable financial strain and had exchanged some words with April shortly before shooting her. He also believed that she was having an affair and wanted a divorce. He was sentenced to over 40 years in prison while their children went to stay with relatives. Apparently, just before he shot her in front of their kids, Michael taunted her, “You like to run so much. Why don’t you run to heaven?”
#10 Russell Neal: A Has-Been Success Now In A Mental Facility Once upon a time in the 90s, Russell Neal was part of the up and coming R&B group Hi-Five and was known to have quite a way with the ladies. Somewhere down the line, his head got too big for his shoes, and he left the band, and he slowly joined the ranks of the has-beens and the wannabes. Even then, he was able to snag lively and vivacious 24-year-old Catherine Martinez who was a fitness trainer, an aspiring model, and was even training to be a female boxer. Wooed by his charm, his popularity (which had waned considerably by that time), and even his money – Catherine had two sons with him. Russell was flat broke and not as popular as he would like to believe so Catherine became the breadwinner for the family. And then she was also put through domestic abuse. Finally, Catherine had enough and planned to leave Russell. Suddenly, she disappears. A few days later Russell strolls into the Houston Police Station and tells them that his wife needs medical attention after a domestic fight they had. Police storm the apartment where they find Catherine dead, and she had been dead for quite a few days, her body beaten and bashed in beyond recognition. Heartbreakingly, their two kids were also locked up in the same apartment. Until now, Russell Neal has not stood trial for his crime, claiming insanity as a defense plea. Maybe it runs in the family, for his younger brother Ronald Neal is also facing 80 years in prison for killing his wife, shooting her and letting her bleed out in front of the children as well.
#11 Claudine Longet: When Anger & Jealousy Mix With Stupidity & Negligence 18-year-old Claudine Longet wanted to be famous ever so bad. And luck was with her when she was en route Las Vegas to become a showgirl and was detained by a flat tire. Someone stopped to help her and it was love at first sight – for Claudine was dazzled by the famous Andy Williams and probably saw him as her ticket to fame, while Andy fell in love with this 18-year-old beauty. And so came marriage, money, three kids and a nominally successful career too. In the 1970s, the marriage between Claudine and Andy unraveled but by that time Claudine had enough friends in high places who in turn introduced her to champion skier, the filthy rich Vladimir “Spider” Sabich. The two hit it off and began a somewhat turbulent relationship that ended in a shocker in 1976. She called the police over to the house she shared with Sabich and her three kids, explaining that he was teaching her how to fire a gun when it went off – killing him. Though Spider was clearly shot in the back, police mistakes and an ineffectual court let her go scot free – which she celebrated with a holiday with her defense lawyer Ron Austin. There was such a public outcry that she maintained a low profile ever since, married Ron Austin, and was never really seen or heard from again…
#12 Rae Carruth: Ordered A Hit & Helped The Hitman Kill His Pregnant Girlfriend Once a popular football star, Rae became yet another in the list of has-beens when he injured his knee and began to wane as a football player, after his very first season. Sure he could have made a comeback, and definitely still had decent innings in football too, but the fact that he spent his time accumulating a harem of women took its toll. Love’em and leave’em was is motto – especially since he had a penchant for getting them pregnant. A girlfriend bore him a son whom he rarely visited, and then yet another girlfriend got his baby aborted – since Rae used to “joke” about killing them if they didn’t do so. One day, he took the joke too far. Cherica Adams was a “real estate agent,” actually a stripper in a gentleman’s club, who unfortunately fell in love with Rae and got pregnant with his baby. She wouldn’t abort it and didn’t findhis “killing” joke funny so Rae proved himself right. He hired a hitman, Michael Kennedy, to shoot her while she was eight-months pregnant with his child, and then blocked her car long enough to ensure she was shot right. Cherica died but not after writing her witness statement blaming Rae, and giving birth to her little boy – who remained brain damaged due to a lack of oxygen. Rae ran and was arrested when the police found him hiding in the boot of his car – with candy bar wrappers and two bottles filled with his piss.
#13 Gig Young: When Love & Life Go Astray Mention Gig Young now and you’ll only get confusion, but four decades ago Gig Young was a swashbuckling actor known for his good looks and roles and even won an Academy Award in 1969-70. So obviously this was one man Hollywood and fans adored. But the 1970s were the start of the end for Gig Young, for this man, originally named Byron E. Barr, was heading down the very slippery slope of alcoholism. Roles were few and far between and all his marriages had crumbled to dust. So Gig Young married Australian actress Kim Schmidt in 1978, and then ended the marriage just three weeks later, but took a rather violent way to end it instead. His alcoholism and his love for guns produced a deadly love child – murder-suicide. He shot his wife of barely three weeks in the head and then put another slug through the roof of his mouth and is buried in the Barr family plot – an ignominious end to one who had many accolades and fans.
#14 Sahel Kazemi: Loving Me Is Good, Leaving Me Is Not So the thing about affairs is that they often backfire, and sometimes with tragic results. Steve McNair, the NFL Quarterback the world so loved was mostly a nice guy, except that he loved to get into other women’s pants even while he was married to his wife Mechelle and had two sons with her. He had also fathered two other children via two other women and finally ending up having an affair with 20-year-old Sahel “Jenny” Kazemi. Sahel was possibly not very secure about their relationship, and one day, when Steve had joined her in the condo he had rented for them after putting his kids to bed, Sahel shot him from three feet away while he slept. And then she lay down beside him and shot herself too. Sahel didn’t just kill Steve, she also orphaned his four children who will now never see their father again.
#15 Spade Cooley: The “Gentleman” Who Killed His Wife In A Boozed Up Blaze Of Passion So sure, not many of us know of Spade Cooley now but back in the day, and we mean the good ole’ days of the 40s and the 50s, Spade was one cool western swinging musician, fiddler, singer, and actor. He came on TV, did concerts and shows and even did a few movies, and while Bob Wills was the Western swing king, Cooley had his own fan following too – especially because he looked a little like his friend, Roy Rogers. By the 60s Cooley-mania had waned a bit so he did what any man in a midlife crisis does: married a pretty young thing in her 20s, Ella Mae Evans, and then had three kids with her too. Cooley drank like a fish and finally, Ella had had enough so she asked for a divorce. Meanwhile, Cooley got to know that his wife had managed to sneak in an affair with Roy Rogers and that blew his top. In 1961, sloshed and high on drugs, Spade went to Ella’s house and proceeded to beat her to death, while she was naked in the shower, and in front of their 14-year-old daughter – after which he put out a cigarette on her breast to see if she was dead. He was arrested and jailed, and released three months early in 1969 to perform at a special concert for the police, where he got a standing ovation and then went backstage, only to keel over and die. Fittingly ironic, as many would say.

Music Culture: 'THE MRS' Interview
Last month I sat down with The Mrs, a four woman strong band who describes their musical style as “modern pop meets retro rock with soulful vocal harmonies”. The Mrs is made up of lead vocalist and guitarist Mandy Prater, keytarist Larissa Ness, bassist Jenny Mason, and drummer Andra Liemandt.
In describing their inspirations and creative methods, Liemandt says “Our creative process really starts with believing that we’re all enough,” their first single is titled “Enough” came from the women thinking through “topics that we think other women like ourselves [would] want to listen to... and because we’re four realized women, we think we bring a lot to the table”.
Prater adds, “I think on the last album maybe we would write a sketch of the chorus, start feeling out the music, then add the verses and it just naturally starts growing out from there… we often write every word together”.
Mason adds that they each have very different experiences so it’s fun to write together and come up with their music through such a variety of perspectives. Each of the band members came to making music at unique moments in their lives, Mason and Liemandt began playing bass and drums just under 10 years ago while Ness and Prater have been playing different instruments like piano and guitar as kids.
When asked about their favorite songs from the new album, Liemandt says, “having to choose a favorite song is like having to pick a favorite child. But I know we’re all excited about our new music video that’s coming out, with our new song, “Blink of an Eye” on the new album” The video came out on May 10th and was preceded by their newest lyric video, for the song, “Cravings” which was released a little bit ago.
All of the women sing the praise of their bandmates throughout our interview and it is really easy to see that they are great friends. Liemandt says of the rest of the band, “everybody is pretty open to trying new things; if you don’t have a history of playing an instrument, playing a new one or picking it up and making it sound cool for the song. When Mandy started playing with the band she was like ‘oh you need that? Well I’m gonna play it and I’m gonna rock it’”
The overarching goals of their music are to “have positive lyrics and inspire other people at any age” and as Mason describes, “I get inspired by watching people connect to our music and by them saying ‘wow it’s amazing that you can do this’ and getting to say back to them, ‘well you know what, you can too’ and maybe that’s not music you’re playing but whatever it is that they are hesitating to do. It inspires me to do it again and do it better”.
The Mrs not only have a talent for music, but also for philanthropy. Their song, “Draw the Line” was written for Austin non-profit SAFE and “came as a way to bring more awareness to” ending child abuse, sexual assault, and domestic violence. 100% of the proceeds from that single goes to SAFE as Ness and Liemandt describe “that’s why we did that. We work with many nonprofits or organizations that are helping or empowering women or children. We try to look for creative ways to bring positivity into the world”
Another non-profit venture the women are deeply involved in is The Kindness Campaign (TKC), an organization focused on the emotional and relational challenges of school that are not able to be addressed within current curriculum. Liemandt is the founder of TKC and excitedly shares the growth and reach of their first year’s programs “it started off as a pilot program with four schools and now it’s grown to 50 schools. Right now it’s only in Austin but we would love to grow beyond that. 1 in 4 kids will go into the school system by the age of 3 having experienced some form of trauma. So we created a curriculum to help teachers have a tool to help teach these kids."
One of these tools is a character called “Enoughie buddy” who “takes kids on a journey, of normal school activities that helps kids learn while the character is by their side.” Liemandt and the rest of the band are excited for the many programs and partnerships in the works for TKC and Mason describes “we also have ambassadors for kids in middle and high school to spread the message of kindness to make it cool to be kind. They get to be influencers and leaders in their community.” The organization is trying to find a positive approach to combatting bullying and as Ness put it, “we’re trying to get in at a young age when this stuff really starts to help kids know how to handle it.”
In what seems to be the heart of the organization and also the band, Liemandt closes our time together by saying “I believe that there is no end in sight for this campaign. I believe that if we teach our kids to be kind today, our future leaders will have kindness in their hearts. And a leader with kindness is a powerful leader”
I look forward to all The Mrs have coming in the future and am inspired by their passion, kindness, and efficacy (not to mention their great music!). Thanks to Mandy, Larissa, Jenny, and Andra for a great interview.
