Something I will never personally forgive the English ffxiv translation for is yeah sort of Haurchefant being more overtly flirty and even a little perverted- but it's also his last words to WOL bc in Japanese it's smth like "Heroes cannot be sad, but you have such a beautiful smile. Try not to forget mine" and like that carried over to the other versions like French and German but English changed to the admittedly iconic "A smile better suits a hero" but idk I think the original translation just felt a lot more personal.

Oh, also, allegedly Haurchefant and Aymeric's friendship was a lot more apparent in Japanese dub which is smth that makes sense bc Edmont just randomly saying Aymeric is like another son to him kinda feels shitty without the context of their frienship. But if you say that Haurche and Aymeric are good friends, then it's like "You were someone important to my son so I welcome you" and idk I just feel like it would have slapped a little harder

Thordan was a bloody menace and he needed to be stopped by any means necessary. He was a threat to Ishgard, and Aymeric did the right thing in ordering his death. Yet. At the end of the day...

However justified it was, and for all of Thordan's crimes - not least of which was having Aymeric arrested and possibly even tortured for the simple crime of wanting the pointless bloodshed to end! - it still leaves Aymeric with his father's blood on his hands. A bastard son (punished for a sin that wasn't his) who murdered his father by proxy.

I think it weighs on him more than he lets on.

(And right at the beginning of Post-Dragonsong: "Am I then to be scorned for building upon the system of nobility that I once sought to tear down? And what strange jest is this that places me at its pinnacle? An archbishop's bastard at the head of the House of Lords..." It's subtle, but he really does not seem to regard himself very highly. No bc Haurchefant and Aymeric childhood friends has me crazy like those two would relate to each other and find solace in the other so much. Like they’re both bastard children who are ostracized by Ishgard’s nobility they would get along so well and find a safe space in the other. In my mind that is why it’s Aymeric propping Haurchefant up as he dies bc they’re close friends.
