Pokemon au Spiderbit's teams and explanations:
Cellbit-
Cellbit isn't a battler, and, if he was to get into a fight, he's more likely to use either his words or an actual legitimate knife than his Pokemon. So his team kinda just acts as his research assistants, and his friends. He specializes in Psychic and Ghost type Pokemon because, to him, they're the most mysterious, and because he thinks they're cute even though they do kinda eat souls.
Meowstic evolved from his first ever Pokemon, the Espurr that basically saved his life on that desert island. He even dyed a streak of his hair white to match it because it was self-conscious when it evolved. It doesn't like being in its Pokeball, so it kinda just follows him around all day staring uncomfortably at whoever tries interrupting him when he's working. (Besides Roier, it loves Roier)
Lampent is a sentient lamp. That's obviously cool as hell, and so Cellbit caught it, and now it's his best friend for when he's up late researching. It's admittedly trying to steal his soul and add it to the fire within it, but, like, whatever, it's not like there's much for it to steal
Elgyem Is A Psychic Alien. Are you telling me that Cellbit wouldn't want to have that in his lab? It was supposed to be around exclusively for research purposes, but he got attached, and now it hangs around and eats all his food and watches television
Roier-
Roier's team is specifically curated for contest purposes. Contests are basically mixtures beauty pageants and talent shows where you and your Pokemon try to impress the judges by being both the coolest guys in the stadium aesthetic-wise and by beating the hell out of your competition in battle. Roier likes Bug types, and so he uses them even though they really aren't that cute.
Ariados evolved from his og partner Spinarak, and it's his emotional support spider. It's been with him for over half his life at this point, and it's his number one fan. When he's at home, it Will tie him and Cellbit up in a web so they spend time together because it knows as well as the humans do that Cellbit can and will sneak away to his lab if no one keeps him tied down, literally
Spidops is a ninja spider, so of course it's on his team! It and Aradios work together during contests to set up the silk that the rest of the team needs for their acts, and it's his main powerhouse in the battling portion of the contest. It's also a fucking asshole and it beats the shit out of him as its own special form of training
Larvesta is a newer addition to the team, but Roier brought it on to train it up into the insane lava moth, Volcarona. But for now, it's useful for the talent portion of the contests because it uses its fire. Creatively. And usually by accident. It has some stagefright, but it's getting over it. Slowly.
Yamper is the most recent addition, and it's. Firusflais. It's literally a stray dog that Roier got attached to, and it's the only non-Bug-type he's ever used, and it electrocutes people that get too close to him, Cellbit included. It does pretty well in battle, and it looks cute enough to wow the judges, so it stays
#qsmp pkmn au#...can you tell i have autism lol#i may own a copy of all but like three of the mainline games lol

Pokemon au
Gai seeing this cute little electric bug and remembering Kakashi gushing about his charjabug in his last message
So of course he catches the cool unova bug for his eternal rival. Clearly he’ll love it
And Kakashi does! When he meets Joltik he’s smitted. It’s adrorable
It’s just that none of them realized it would evolve into anspider, and even if Gai and Rin knew it’s not like Kakashi talks about the time a Spinarak evolved imto an Ariados in front of him when he was 2 and proceeded to chase him around the yard for an hour while he cried
Ariados thought they were playing
Kakashi was traumatized and refuses to deal with that trauma so he cannot handle spiders at all 😭😭😭

Spider-Man 2099 + Pokémon hcs (part 1)
First of all I have an uncanny talent of being able to make Pokemon AU out of anything. Second of all, thank you @xinakwans for inspiring me with your post about what Pokémon Xina would have.
Miguel
Ariados
He’s Spider-Man right? He’s gotta have a spider Pokémon. There are a few different spider Pokémon I just think Ariados suits him the best.
Miguel raised Ariados for his research and experiments to re-create Spider-Man’s powers. After the lab accident which gave Miguel his powers, he takes Ariados home with him.
Ariados does not like Miguel at first but they do eventually grow closer and make a great vigilante team.
“Its feet are tipped with tiny hooked claws that enable it to scuttle on ceilings and vertical walls. It constricts its foe with thin and strong silk webbing.” – Pokémon Emerald
Umbreon
Miguel has had Umbreon since he was a kid, when they met it was still an Eevee. He was surprised when it evolved late one night.
Eevee is “The Evolution Pokémon”, I think Eevee might have sparked Miguel’s interest in genetics. Unfortunately, there isn’t much money in being a Pokémon researcher…
Salamence
The year is 2099 and dragons are still really really cool.
Zubat
No real reason for Miguel owning a Zubat, my Miguel plushie just sits next to my Zubat plushie on my window and I think they look cute together.
Xina <3 <3
So I think that Xina is one of the better actual Pokémon trainers, never went pro or anything but took training and battling seriously.
Gengar
Xina traded Miguel for his Haunter, and it evolved into Gengar.
Snorlax
I haven't decided if Xina patiently raised Snorlax from a hungry little Munchlax or is she played a mean flute solo in order to capture it.
Kadabra
Xina planned to trade Kadabra to Miguel so it would evolve into Alakazam.
Starmie
When Xina was young, she would train every day in the pool with Starmie.
Espeon
A while ago someone made a poll asking what kind of pets Xina and Miguel would have. I couldn't quite pin down if they were a dog/cat/lizard/squirrel couple but I knew for sure they were an Espeon/Umbreon couple.
Charizard
Xina and Charizard are really close, with Charizard being Xina’s starter Pokémon raised from a Charmander.
Charizard does not like Miguel. Xina may be willing to forgive Miguel but for Charizard it’s an on-sight flamethrower to the face.
Xina can mega evolve Charizard to Mega Charizard X.
Lyla
Rotom
The “lore” around Rotom in the Pokémon franchise itself is interesting. Rotom is a ghost-type Pokémon that can inhabit and “possess” appliances. Rotom originally seemed to be a sort of mischievous poltergeist, but in the latest entries in the franchise it seems to come with and be an essential working component of some electronics like phones and pcs. The Rotom inside the Pokedex even talks.
So essentially in this AU Lyla is a Rotom. She still takes the form of the Lyla we all know and love but the reason Lyla sometimes feels like a sentient being with thoughts and feelings is because…she is. Inside the box that contains “Lyla” there is a Pokémon.
Miguel had no idea that Lyla was a Pokémon until he brought her to Xina.
Lyla-Rotom is an Electric/Fairy type.
Thanks for reading! If you like these I'll drop part 2!

Would you mind talking about the Spinarak line if you haven't already? If you have, I'd love your thoughts on Skorupi! (And vice versa; I did some searching but I didn't see it)
Spinarak is a cute little guy! It's probably the simplest spider design we've ever gotten in Pokemon, but that's a not a bad thing. The blank-ringed eyes convey a sort of compound eye without being too literal with it, and the little fangs and random horn (following in the proud Gen 1 tradition of slapping horns onto things for no reason other than that it looks cool) add just enough detail to prevent it from being too bland. I also love the stripey legs, a feature found in many spiders.
The main draw of Spinarak is the concept of it having a second face on its abdomen. Not only does this make logical biological sense (it would confuse predators), but it also makes for a fun little theme, and increases the cuteness by 20%.
My only real nitpick with the design is that the red fangs feel a bit out-of-place; they could've easily been yellow. Then again, it ties into Ariados' radically different palette and many IRL spiders have different-colored pedipalps, so I'm willing to give it a pass.
It's also worth nothing that Spinarak had a completely different palette in general originally, sporting a mostly purple look. Ariados was also purple originally, which created more design coherency between the two stages. I'm not sure why they changed this. Maybe they thought it made them look too much like poison-types?
While it's a shame that there's little color consistency between the two, there's at least some visual consistency—the horn, the stripe and spots on the abdomen, the fangs, and the striped legs all remain. Meanwhile, the body shape has changed in a way that makes it look appropriately stronger, and its gained a really pair of false legs on the back that no other spider 'mon sports.
Unfortunately, what doesn't remain is the theme. Spinarak's most noticeable feature was its false face, so it's baffling that Aridos drops that in favor of... nothing really. Aridos is nicely designed, sure, but it doesn't really have anything specific to make it stand out. I point this out mostly because this was Aridos' beta sprite:
Most of Aridos' design has been improved from this design; the finalized design sports a much more interesting body shape that looks much more different than Spinarak's than the beta's does, and the face feels a lot more complete in the final with its thinner head and larger eyes.
However, the loss of the face on the back was honestly a travesty. Like I said, the face on Spinarak was its main theme, so using the evolution to advance the face from being a simple smiley face to a full-brown vicious pattern ala Arbok would've made the line much more memorable, and would've created a greater sense of increase between the two stages. Even the final Pokedex entries for Aridos still blatantly reference this earlier design:
If they had kept Aridos' final design but allowed it to keep the false face of the beta, the line would've been dang near perfect. As-is, they're both still enjoyable spiders—just not nearly as memorable as they could've been.
As a final side note, I could see potential in revisiting this line. I don't think a third evolution would be out of the question; maybe play back into the face theme or expand upon the false legs by giving it the ability to flip itself upside-down or rightside-up on a whim.

Zubat
I think a lot of web decorations could be cool considering the ariados thing :3c
Normally I just let my ARIADOS web an outside tree and make a little design.
Now that I’ve got TWO I’m wondering if I can get the HOA to approve webbing TWO trees. Hmm…

quirky gentle jolly serious!!
Quirky- Come up with a concept for a pokemon with new type combo
bug/dragon is unused rn, so perhaps a pokemon that looks like a caterpillar if it were crossed with a Chinese dragon. that would be cool. and it would evolve into a really majestic butterfly with dragon style wings
Gentle- If you were a pokemon trainer, how would you take your journey?
I would be out there looking for the cutest pokemon in the world and making them my best friend. and training them super heavy on defense so that if someone tries to fight them they would just be such a pain in the ass to take down that they'd give up
Jolly- Who is your favorite character in any form of pokemon media?
pokemon mystery dungeon explorers of sky's grovyle...... I think he had a really interesting arc :)
Serious- Cool, you’re suddenly a gym leader. Which type is your specialty and what is your team?
bug type hands down! i would have a frosmoth, araquanid, ribombee, galvantula, heracross, and ariados, and use them in that order. ariados would be my finisher and my catchphrase if I won would be "looks like I caught you in my web!!" and if I lost I'd say "oh, this is going to bug me for days..." and my gym leader outfit would be spider themed and I'd have a gym that's a maze shaped like a spiderweb with multiple tiers. if you go the wrong way in the maze you get stuck and one of my assistants comes to unstick you and escort you back to the start, and the trainers that battle you along the way drop down from the ceiling or the tier above using spider silk.

Me roasting Johto.
Chikorita: AKA, Johto's biggest punching bag.
Bayleef: I can't believe this pokemon was originally going to look nothing like its pre - or post evolution!
Meganium: The most forgettable final grass starter.
Cyndaquil: How does it feel having Fuecoco take all the credit for breaking the Chinese Zodiac theory?
Quilava: Or the sausage shrew as I like to call it.
Typhlosion: I can't believe Gamefreak took away its idle neck flames for nearly a decade!
Totodle: The Feucoco for water type fans.
Croconaw: (cue Flintstones theme song here)
Feraligatr: I can't stop thinking of that infamous back sprite that made it look like it was thicc.
Sentret: (Engineer voice) Spy is sapping my sentret!
Furret: Oh, look, it's a ground type! No, wait, the anime's just stupid.
Hoothoot: Its name is literally just the sound its real-life counterpart makes.
Noctowl: Sorry, Noctowl, but the other regional birds are just cooler than you.
Ledyba: Look at that thousand yard stare. There's not a single thought behind those eyes.
Ledian: If it didn't look it up, I would've never guessed that it was based on a superhero.
Spinarak: You're not a true spider, you only have six legs!
Ariados: You have the most forgettable signature move.
Crobat: I feel like Gamefreak just decided to slap the friendship evolution onto it because they could.
Chinchou: What's with the plus sign eyes?
Lanturn: Look out, Seel and Dewgong, you got competition for the least creative name.
Pichu: I can't believe pichu has a special form that's just it having a tuff of fur on its ear.
Cleffa: Was this pokemon really necessary?
Igglybuff: For real, the idea of bouncing and never being able stop is terrifying!
Togepi: The poster child for baby pokemon.
Togetic: That neck though.
Natu: It looks like it's judging me.
Zatu: I feel bad for it, since it's in constant dread due to seeing horrible futures.
The Mareep line: Beep beep, I'm a sheep. I said beep beep, I'm a sheep.
Bellossom: How does it feel to be shorter than your pre evolution?
Marill: (Insert pikablu joke here)
Azurill: The water bunny egg pokemon.
Sudowoodo: What if I bring out the hose?
Politoad: We finally have a frog pokemon that actually looks like a frog.
The hoppin line: Dendelion, a million little wishes blowing across the sky.
Aipom: No thoughts, head empty.
Sunkurn: The most useless pokemon.
Sunflora: Boring...
Yanma: One rock throw, and you're dead.
Wooper: The derpy pokemon.
Quagsire: The Family Guy pokemon.
Espeon: How does it feel to be overshadowed by your edgy counterpart?
Umbreon: You know people only like you because you're edgy, right?
Murkrow: I'm glad it got an evolution later on because it really needed it.
Slowking: Despite being a genius, you still look so derpy.
Misdreavus: This was the most random pokemon to get a paradox form.
Unown: Cool concept, poor execution.
Wobbuffet: Jessie's comedic relief pokemon.
Girafarig: Its beta design is proof that sometimes less is more.
Pineco: Am I the only one who wants to know what it actually looks like?
Foretress: Stop exploding and let me catch you, dammit!
Dunsparce: Remember when people wanted Drampa to be your evolution?
Gligar: Its color pallet is so consistent.
Steelix: You're no crystal onix.
Snubull: Too bad you're only known for being a bitch thanks to the anime.
Granbull: Are those tusks under your lips painful?
Qwilfish: Anyone hungry for some fugu?
Scizor: Big meaty claws!
Shuckle: Dorkly's biggest punching bag.
Heracross: Its female gender difference makes almost as little since as Wobbuffet's.
Sneasel: Why wasn't this a version exclusive alongside gligar, it would've made more sense.
Teddiursa: It's so cute, I wanna hug it forever!
Ursaring: Oh God, never mind!
Slugma and Magcargo: It was cruel to put these pokemon in the Hoenn region.
Swinub and Piloswine: No one cared about you until you got an evolution in Sinnoh.
Corsola: Just like Primape, no one cared about you until you died. That's just sad.
Remoraid: The urge to hold this pokemon like a pistol is killing me!
Octillery: You could've been so interesting, but they had to censor your design!
Delibird: 🎶It's Christmas all over again, yeah again!🎶
Mantine: It looks like it's starting into my soul, and I don't like it.
Houndour and Houndoom: I hate how these pokemon were locked behind post game!
Kingdra: Why does it look so pissed?
Phanpy: No, Phanpy, I do not find you destroying my home cute just because you were only playing!
Donphan: I'm a tire.
Porygon2: Porygon2, Electric Boogaloo!
Stantler: Do you think Delibirduses this pokemon to pull its sleigh?
Smeargle: Probably the most gimmicky gimmick pokemon to ever gimmick.
Tyrogue: No, anime, Tyrogue evolves into either Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, or Hitmotop, not the other way around.
Hitmontop: It's beyblade!
Smoochum: You think they wouldn't give a baby form for such a controversial pokemon so early on.
Elekid: Hey, could you please charge my phone for me?
Magby: Such an unfortunate Japanese name.
Miltank: Poor thing was demonized just because of that annoying brat, Whitney.
Blissy: Egg...
Raikou: The most overshadowed of the gen 2 legendaries.
Entei: That fact that a volcano erupts eveytime it barks makes it a miracle that there's still any life left in the pokemon world.
Suicune: Gamefreak really went out of their way to make sure this was the most popular of the legendary beasts.
Larvitar: Look at those stubby little arms.
Pupitar: Did we really need another caccoon pokemon.
Tyranitar: One brick break and your dead.
Lugia: The "why isn't this a water type?" pokemon.
Ho-Oh: This pokemon is seen as giving Ash immortality.
Celebi: You, you're the one responsible for all the event pokemon that use FOMO to trick fans into wasting their time going to Gamestop. Let that fact weigh heavily on your shoulders...
(Hoenn shall be next)

I noticed you enjoy bug type pokemon. Your top 3?
Here's mine:
1. Araquanid
2. Ribombee
3. Lokix
1. Ariados. I’m always a sucker for an underdog, and spooder here really got screwed over in pretty much every department. Such a cool looking mon - AND AN AMAZING SHINY! I just wish they’d have done something interesting with it.
2. Golisopod. I’m embarrassed to admit it, but after all the years of playing pokemon, this is the mon that finally got me to switch more heavily, both manually and with Wimp Out Emergency Exit. First Impression is a really fun move, and Guzma blasts you with it turn 1 to let you know what’s up. But, yknow, they give a bug a cool signature move, and then, in the next generation…er, well, it weren’t so exclusive no more.
3. Hard to say, but as of right now…Yanmega. It looks cool, it expanded on Yanma, and Speed Boost is cracked.
Runner-up: Scolipede. I’ve never used it outside of PoGo and Mystery Dungeon, but it looks awesome. I also understand it learns Rollout in the mainline games, so that’s always a plus!
[Disclaimer: I haven’t played Scarlet/Violet, and I haven’t done any postgame in Sword/Shield, so I hesitate to include mons from either gen, out of fear of misrepresenting them one way or the other. Centiskorch seemed cool though in my SwSh playthrough! Or, well, not *cool* but, you know what I mean.]

Pokemon Team Characterization - Janine
Ninja Dad is done, but now it is time for Ninja Daughter. Janine’s cool, I like Janine. Her whole thing is being new and relatively uncertain and is trying her best, which is exactly what Flannery does, but I’m cutting off this rant before I piss off the Flannery fans.
Janine’s intro team is really funny, because it sucks. Confuse Ray and Supersonic on the same Pokemon? Two Ariados with the same offensive overlap? Her team is riddled with small oddities that suggest someone new who doesn’t quite know what she’s doing. The only thing she has on lock is her Weezing. She definitely learned her dad’s trade.
But that’s not what we’re interested in.
Janine’s Gen 4 rematch is where she establishes an identity. It’s where she starts to really craft a careful team, but where she also starts to seriously break away from her dad’s style as a ninja and develops her own.
The Lead (Crobat) Crobat as a lead suggests a cautious approach on two levels. The first is the clear “Avoid Ground.” Poison has few weaknesses, and full immunity to one of them is a strong opener. The other is U-Turn. This is a similar “know when to fold em” mentality as her father, but she’s less...absolute. More of a “put it down and come back later” compared to Explosion signifying abandonment of the plan. I’d also note Confuse Ray, which has a lot less confidence than her father’s Swagger. In the opening plays, she’s still uncertain and playing a bit closer to the vest. She’s someone who takes an immediately cautious approach, and isn’t afraid to back down in a moment to regroup.
The Ace (Venomoth) Highest level. Her ace is where we start to see a serious departure from her father’s tactics. Sleep Powder. Koga spams Toxic. That’s his whole thing. But Janine aims instead for Sleep, into Double Team for evasion. It’s a more measured approach. But this is then backed by Tinted Lens, which powers up her not very effective moves. Psychic over a poison-type STAB is also interesting, and there’s more to it but that’ll come later.
The main thing to take away is that Janine likes consistency. Koga’s willing to play fast and loose with evasion, then completely drop the plan if it starts going off the rails. Janine doesn’t. Janine likes to sustain, and likes to make sure what she’s doing will work. Again, cautious and uncertain of success.
Tried and True (Weezing) Weezing keeps to Koga’s tactics. Toxic, explode when needed. What’s interesting is it doesn’t know Smokescreen. Janine won’t play evasion games without some level of certainty, like Venomoth’s Sleep Powder. She opts instead for Thunderbolt. Odd coverage, but something she finds more consistent than the evasion.
Mind Games (Toxicroak, Ariados, Drapion) All three of her remaining Pokemon apply disruption in the form of confuse or attraction. All three also have fall-back plans. Toxicroak packs Substitute, Ariados has Bounce, and Drapion is just excellent defensive typing. Ariados’ Night Shade is against a good indicator of her appreciation for consistency, given its flat damage, while Drapion’s Swords Dance indicates much the same, needing to ensure her damage is enough before swinging. But Swords Dance is also taking calculated risk. She only buffs on a defensive Pokemon, or something with good disruption in sleep. In every other instance, she doesn’t try, and plays more cautiously.
Of particular note is how this differs from her father. Koga’s approach is wholly Toxic. It is his calling card, and the technique he applies in most situations. Given its effects on the body, Koga is someone who operates on the physical level. He’s surgical in his approach, and breaks the person down on that physical level. By contrast, Janine’s psychological. Confusion and attraction have little direct impact on breaking down the opponent, but they do have an effect that disrupts their ability to fight. Koga aims to overwhelm. Janine aims to disrupt. Janine’s approach is overall cautious, but insidious. She’s less likely to reveal up front what she’s doing, playing a bit more toward subtlety before a finishing strike.
I also like that it’s Ariados who has Swagger. She’s not confident in the opener, but once she’s in the swing of things she starts to feel more confident. I interpret this as an initial shyness, or lack of confidence. She’ll go into something expecting little, but once she’s started eases into the process of something new.
Summation Janine is the psychological counterpart to her father’s physical approach. While her father applies a direct Toxic and is very up front about his intent, Janine is more covert, able to get inside another person’s head. She’s likely to more intuitively understand someone than her father, but is less likely to immediately jump into something. She can, and she will, but she likes having a plan. She’s also got a bit more stamina for things. While her father drops a failed plan immediately in a “know when to fold ‘em” approach, Janine saves plans for later and never truly abandons a possible avenue. Koga reacts, Janine plans. She’ll start out uncertain and reserved, but opens up once she’s in the swing of a new situation.
If you have an alternate read on the teams, I’d love to hear it. I do like Janine after all. I admit, I know she’s Kantonian, but because she only shows in Gen 2 she’s like an honorary Johto character so I can appreciate her more. And I think she nails the less confident newbie leader better than-[for legal reasons, the remainder of this rant has been removed]

Hello! I'm new to Rotomblr, and I wanted to ask - do you have any fun facts about Tarountula you'd like to share? I have one myself, and he surprises me every day with a new trick! (And new ways to sneak his fat little body into his food drawer. No lock is strong enough to keep him out. UGH!)
Thanks for your time, Ziva!
~ Combs (@malecombee)
cool facts about this creacher
- its 'ball', though not actually part of its body, is so elastic and sensitive to vibrations that it can detect even a change in air current
- newly hatched Tarountula use this talent to float to their destination
- they come out of the egg with a moderately thick layer of the silk already balled around them. it's hypothesized they start ballin' before they're even fully formed
- they look unnervingly cylindrical underneath all that silk (dislike.)
- while wild Spidops can and do mate, it is much more common for female Tarountula to lay a clutch just before evolution, as they experience a dramatic shift in hormones upon evolution that induces highly territorial behavior
- they place their brood in a sac made of the same extra-strength silk they wrap around their bodies, and it is extremely difficult to remove (lasers, you have to cut it with lasers. it's ridonkulous—good thing theyre not common home invaders)
- nobody really knows why their silk is so ridiculously strong. we can't figure it out
- sometimes their pedipalps are white and it looks like they have little mustaches
- they smell with their feet. sort of. this is common amongst bug-types but "arachnid" (read: eight-legged) types have it most often—Ariados has very sensitive receptors on its feet
- they are soooo squishy and bouncy. boing boing boing boing
- you will never keep him out of the food drawer. Plastic airsealed container that they can't break open is the way to go. or leave a perpetual feeder out so he learns to graze
- domesticated ones like 2 be bounced sometimes its very fun. I had one that enjoyed being yeeted at the wall at mach speed. she was fine she just bounced off like a handball it was great

Krenko’s Guide to Pokemon: Spinarak Line
Don’t count the legs, just trust that it’s a spider
DESIGN:
Spinarak is an amalgam spider with various bits from different real-world spiders, like coloring, face designs, and general build, coming together in a creature that can be read as a spider despite being a heavily unique design. It’s cute, but just a bit creepy, looks both friendly and dangerous, and gives this strange feeling that I both want to hug it and don’t want it anywhere near me. It manages to be the generic spider enemy for the Pokemon games while not being the same generic spider enemy that shows up in every other game.
Ariados just looks cool and badass, still functioning as an amalgam spider that comes up very distinct from any other spider design. Despite the strong recolor, it’s thematically similar enough to Spinarak that you can tell it’s the evolved form, with a larger horn, longer legs, and less rounded features in general. The extra appendages sticking out of its back add a great visual, and its low stance makes it look ready to charge or leap. Ariados has to be the result of designers just taking spider traits and throwing them together without actually attempting to make a specific spider, and it came together great.

ECOLOGY:
Spinarak live throughout the forests of Johto and Kanto, spawning and swarming during autumn, though only a tiny percentage of them will survive through spring. They primarily feed off the Caterpie that are so common in those regions as well as smaller insects. Spinarak catch prey by spinning webs and by ambush rather than being particularly good at self defense. They’re easily caught by Spearow, Pidgey, and other predatory birds.
Those that survive to evolve into Ariados leave Johto and Kanto in the spring in one of the great mysteries of the Pokemon world. Fully-grown Ariados travel across the ocean to Alola, despite the fact that they can neither fly nor swim. Some theorize they craft gliders out of their webs, though this behavior has only ever been recorded in the smallest spiders. Others suggest they travel through shadows, through an underground tunnel, or along the world wide web. As reasonable and ridiculous as any given theory might be, none have actually observed direct evidence of the Ariados migration, only the end result.

TYPING:
Bug/Poison has some decent resistances, including a few doubles, though it does have to worry about being weak to the commonly-used Rock type. Defensively, it’s pretty fine. Offensively, though, these are two of the worst types. Combined, they only hit four types Super Effectively and are resisted by far too many, with Poison, Ghost, and Steel resisting attacks from both types.
STATS:
At 400 total, Ariados is basically just leaning on a 90 Attack, which is good, but not enough to carry a Pokemon. 40 speed is painful, and its three defensive stats are all 70 which isn’t nothing, but also isn’t anything. It’s not a bad allotment of stats, it’s just that the numbers are pretty low overall.

ABILITIES:
Swarm is still bad. Moving on.
Insomnia, as mentioned before, has its uses and can save you in a pinch, but can’t be leveraged and is usually considered a plan B for a Pokemon without actual good abilities.
Sniper significantly increases the damage dealt on a critical hit. Ariados has Cross Poison by level-up and can be bred with Night Slash. As Cross Poison is one of Ariados’ best attacks anyway, this is a great option if you want to build your Ariados to attack.

MOVES:
In the past, the first step to building an Ariados was to get a Heracross, but thankfully Megahorn is now a TR. Slap that thing on Ariados and you have a 120 power STAB attack that, admittedly, gets resisted by far too many things.
For a poison attack, Cross Poison with Sniper, or Poison Jab without.
Ariados’ STAB moves don’t work on Poison, Ghost, or Steel types, so if you want coverage, you’re going to need to go digging. But not for Dig, because while you can get it, it’s too easily dodged. Throat Chop can be found via move tutor, and you can breed for Night Slash to use with Sniper… but with Ariados’ low speed, you’re generally better off using Sucker Punch, which it learns naturally, to ensure the first hit.
All that said, Ariados just isn’t a heavy enough hitter to be used as a primary attacker and doesn’t have the durability or speed to set up with Swords Dance if it’s built for attacking.
What Ariados can do, though, is combine the rarely seen Spider Web with Toxic Spikes, creating serious entry hazards when trained for defense. This will end with Ariados taken down relatively easily on the opponent’s part, but should make the fight easier for the rest of your team. Toxic Thread, its signature move, can also deliver poison and slow an opponent, making it easier for your next Pokemon to defeat.

OVERALL:
Spinarak and Ariados are great designs with a lot of cool mechanics and interesting build options that are just too weak because they’re early route Pokemon. Ariados is stronger than Ledian both because it has a better stat distribution and because in Gen 7, the devs gave it another 10 stat points just because. Why Ledian didn’t get that, too, I don’t know. I don’t have any actual complaints about this pair, they’re just not going to be able to do anything without a larger stat total. Bug/Poison is a pretty weak type combination, but that’s more a fault of the types not being created equal and Bug being horribly underpowered than anything Ariados is doing.

Munday Shiny Showcase #4
<<first <previous - next>
Heyo. After taking an impromptu break from the internet due to personal reasons, I'm finally gonna be coming slowly back to this blog and what better way then to continue with my shiny showcase! We got A LOT to catch up on so buckle up!
Quick Recap: The munday shiny showcase is where I show off some of my most recent captures throughout the week. Whether I get them through shiny hunting, breeding, or just by random chance! They will be listed every Monday under the #MundayShinyShowcase tag
----------------------------------------------------
#1: Noivern:
Caught this one some time just after my break as a noibat. I hadn't been playing the game for awhile since dex completion so I figured a shiny hunt would be a good way to get back into it and noibat was my choice. Got them first run I believe.
#2: Pawmi
This one was kinda random. I was trying to catch a shiny Sandy Shocks a day or so after the noibat I mentioned, but I was super unlucky and wasn't able to get one. However since I was using electric meal powers, I ended up with this little pikaclone instead. Need to get around to evolving her, but we all know the evo for this dude can be tedious XD
#3: Snorunt
This was another random catch that I got during a shiny hunt for a different mon. I was out trying to catch a shiny frigibax. It was my first run and right after my meal powers ran out and I was about to reset, this cutie showed up so not a total loss of sandwich ingredients XD Got a female too so ya'll know what she's gonna evo into lol
#4: Frigibax
As I mentioned in the last section, I was shiny hunting Frigibax. I was able to nab one after I caught the snorunt. I even got lucky with a very fitting title!
#5: Magikarp
Can you ever say you've caught a shiny until you catch a wild shiny magikarp? I mean come on... a literal GOLDFISH. XD I caught this after the DLC came out(Gonna shamelessly plug my almost 6 hour long live stream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8l2RMHVjVw&t=1s ) I was just looking for pokemon to catch and fill the kitakami dex and boom there it was.
#6: Spinarak & Ariados
A little while after I did my livestream of the new DLC I did another livestream were I, you guessed it, did some shiny hunting! The first one I went after was spinarak and not only did I catch one, I caught it's evo too! I'll be adding the spinarak to my eventual shiny raffle when I get around to it. (Another shameless stream plug: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64939UPuul4 )
#7: Dipplin
The second pokemon I shiny hunted on the stream was applin who I evolved into Dipplin just so I can see it's shiny and boi is it cool. A golden candy apple is great and I love it. This one was a pain to get because of where it spawns so I had to rerun the hunt after the first attempt failed.
#8: Marcargo
Slugma was the last one I shiny hunted on stream and was kind of a spur-of-the-moment kinda deal. After I got the applin, I was wondering who to shiny hunt and I was passing by the mountain top when I saw some Slugma and boom started to shiny hunt it(I think. I have to rewatch the stream at some point because I can't remember lol)
#9: Jangmo-o
I can't remember if I catch her before and after I did the stream, but I saw some jangmo-o and just said "Imma find your shiny" because I remember it having a pink lemonade look that I loved. I think this was another one I had to reset for.
And that's it for all the shinies I caught since the last showcase. I think this is all of them. I has been a long while since the last showcase.

Yo! Names Damian! Former Unova resident now living out in Lavender Town. I used to be a fairly nomadic trainer who faught many a gym leader, but I’ve since settled down and now focus on studying odd Pokémon. Also sometimes sub in as a gym leader for the gym that the town got recently. Um… he/they pronouns… Oh yeah! Meet the lads! I have a lot of mons from my days challenging gym leaders, but i only presently live with 4 of em.
To briefly talk about the lads:
Una: a tentacruel i caught as a tentacool and used in Johto. She’s probably the smallest and nicest tentacruel I’ve ever met! She lives in my pond out back. She’s super affectionate and loves hugs, which I’d be cool with if not for the venom.
Penny: a shiny ariados i found here in Lavender Town actually. She’s great, actually a saint. I’m outta the house pretty often, and she’s my main line of home defense! She just sits up in the rafters. Bit of a big baby tho.
Roleplay: this little spook I found in Alola. Was checking out some haunted mall and this little booger just kinda latched onto my leg and refused to let go. Super affectionate, but also timid. I’m pretty sure she’s in the cupboards usually, though I don’t ever know where EXACTLY she hides during the day. Shy to new comers but warms up fast. She also refuses to leave my property, which makes vet visits fun…
Suki: If Roleplay isn’t my partner Pokemon, then Suki is. Found this little shit in Hau’oli city at the tail end of my Alola trip. She just kinda started following me and effectively caught herself in my sleep. She’s super energetic and mischievous (frankly more than I typically have the energy for) and gets on well with the others. Follows me everywhere and likes hiding in my hats.
I also live with this jigglypuff lookin thing I found on a vacation to Paldea with my girlfriend, but he’s not really part of the household. Call him Korbous, or Korbo for short.
(Oh right, I also take asks or something…)
(OOC: Yo, guy running this here, just a quick heads up that Im gonna be a little loose with some bits of game cannon, and also that I’m gonna treat some Pokémon changes I wish were real as though they were (common examples: ninetails is part ghost and there’s a regional variant/fake of Aipom based on the White Hand thing. These will mostly just be type or ability changes, but regional variants I’ve thought up for Kanto will be acknowledged, so keep that in mind.)
