It is intensely relevant to this au that Verlaine hasn't had any closure or catharsis nor an ego death. He is just as fervently governed by his passions as in Stormbringer, without any outlet. But Rimbaud has experienced his own and is wiser and more aware of what Verlaine needs than before. More to the point, the person who taught Verlaine to care for humanity at all is still there and alive, and with the person Verlaine understands as his own salvation too, the same person Verlaine was willing to kill Rimbaud to save.

So, his passions are just as fierce but less desperate, not as grief stricken. He's hungry, not starving.

His gravity manipulation works wonders on anyone he decides to tickle. Dazai sometimes won’t bother using his ability so Chuuya has a field day using his ability and wrecking Dazai

Tickle fights with Dazai are a must! Chuuya honestly has a blast having intense tickle fights with Dazai and they’ve done it since they were fifteen Kudos to all the Port Mafia members who put up with their teenage shenanigans

The contrast between Chuuya and Gogol is so interesting. Both can see the strings that control them, but one fights back and the other has given up.

Chuuya and Gogol fill very similar roles to Dazai and Dostoyevsky; Both of them are insanely powerful ability users who are pretty much unstoppable. Both of them are considered the 'closest' person to their respective puppeteers, and are trusted with extremely difficult jobs no one else could do.

They also both have heavy themes of control and free will around them, but take it in very different directions.

Chuuya has been controlled by others almost his entire life:

Ripped form his family as a child and experimented on in a lab.

Having to protect a group of children from dangerous gifted while forced into a position he never wanted (king of sheep) while constantly being pressured into thinking it was his duty to play the part.

Blackmailed by Dazai into joining an organisation he hated to protect the only people who had ever shown him kindness, and forced to stay there while the sheep were kept as hostages and his past was kept from him.

Every time it seemed like he might find happiness, or escape the clutches of the mafia (the flags, and Murase) he was smashed back down, and suffered for it.

And of course like everyone in the Mafia, surrendering his life and will entirely to the boss, excepting his fate to never be free.

Even now with Fyodor, Chuuya is once again an puppet to someone else.

Gogol on the other hand also knows he is being controlled, but he fights desperately to escape it:

I think the reason Gogol chose to work with Fyodor, the most manipulative person on the planet, when he hates manipulation and being controlled. is because if he could break free from the manipulation of a demon, surely he could break free of the brainwashing he believes affects all people.

Gogol always does what no one ever should, just to prove he can. "No human being could skin people alive and smile about it" so he does that. "No human could kill the only person in the world who understood them" so he must do that. The "No human could" is a restriction that drives him insane.

We don't know what lead Gogol to think like this, and we still need to see if Chuuya has broken the vampire curse, but whatever happens im sure these aspects of their character will be very important.

2. Dazai had braided Chuuya's hair when he was asleep.

3. Atsushi loves hot baths. Since he had only gotten cold icy water from the orphanage, he cherishes it. He stayed there for so long that Kyoka had to call out to Atsushi to check if he was alive. (Tiger coded fr)

4. Dumb, newly found, fresh out of lab, young Verlaine. And his caring boyfriend, Arthur Rimbaud.

5. Chuuya really hated Dazai back in 16. He hates the facts that he and Dazai are really alike (canon), and after the whole sb, he avoided Dazai other than talking to him about work. And of course Dazai was really confused. Although after some months he came into the old speaking terms with him. He just needed some time for himself.

6. Skk must've had some embarrassing moments together that they completely avoid talking to each other.

7. Chuuya's really unpredictable, according to Dazai. Not his reactions but his movements. For Chuuya, he never gets why people say, "Dazai is cold and unpredictable." Sure he's cold and a bitch but not unpredictable at all the times. He even acts like a kid and can be bubbly at times.

8. Dazai has a void feeling near his heart. He hates it. Joining PM only worsened it. But at ADA, it has been far better, although the feeling is still there. gnawing and very close to his heart, he fear that it may eat it. He feels nothing and everything at the same time. He hated feeling nothing, and yet he hated feeling everything. It is a disgusting feeling and really nauseating.

9. Since Oda drew for the kids, he drew a lot for Dazai, too. And dngo is no exception.

10. (Fem Skk!) either Chuuya or Dazai loved pastels. It can go both ways.

11. Kaiji and Nikolai gets along really well. (Better not to ask questions.)

12. Dazai relates to 'my ordinary life' a little bit too much.

13. The flags will and will not say, " Chuuya should be the next boss, not that idiot Dazai!"

14. Chuuya hates staring competition with Dazai. Not only would he lose, but also the more he stares into Dazai's eyes, the more he feels weird and sad. This applies to Oda as well but he usually wins.

15. Glasses!Chuuya because he'd look amazing!

16. Dazai limps a lot, but over time, it got better. He still does, but it's rare. Usually, it's Kunikida or Chuuya to notice first.

17. Akutagawa had broken into Atsushi's and Kyoka's apartment ,saying that he had a nightmare about Atsushi and to fight him. This scared the living daylights of Atsushi and Kyoka. Until Atsushi persuades him to talk about his nightmare. (which he does reluctantly) and they all sleep together comforting Akutagawa (which he never asked but doesn't dislike it either)

18. Higuchi's new policy, " No Akutagawa? Then his sister is an Akutagawa, too!"

19. Nikolai bites people. For the fun of it. You can see the bite mark on Fyodor's arm. And Sigma's too.

20. Nikolai, Chuuya, Dazai, Ranpo, Tachihara, and Tecchou are some people who act according to their impulsive thoughts.

But a time swap?! With 16 year old Chuuya?!?!?!? genidbekdiensmsb. Brilliant. And specifically stormbringer Chuuya. Ahhhhhh my heart. You have lit so many things in my brain.

16 year old Chuuya who got thrown into the future fresh in his grief of the flags and surrounded my faces who are so similar to the ones he knows but just that much different to make it feel off. And like as of that moment Dazai is one of the only his friends (even if they won’t admit it) alive at the moment. And a Dazai that hasn’t solidified in his partner? before their name of Soukoku?!?! And if it’s safe to assume there will be some agency shenanigans, and agency that hasn’t seen Chuuya with confidence etched into his skin. They will be seeing a Chuuya before he became an executive, a Chuuya who just lost his family for the second time. People who were brutally murdered and Albatross who he held in his arms as he died. And this would be before he processed all this committed by someone who referred to themselves as Chuuya’s brother?!?! Someone who is grappling with their humanity and is still a 16 a child

And 22 Chuuya now faced with people of his past. People who haven’t grown yet Dazai who is a child and a Mori who is still new to the position and Kouyou who hasn’t fully became his sister (I’m speculating a little here/a little headcanon of mine) and Kouyou who is 20. A Kouyou who is know younger than him.

God the potential for angst here. But also the shenanigans that can come from this. Like imagine 22 Chuuya just treating 16 Dazai like the child he is. Like Chuuya is just amused by 16 Dazai. Imagine Chuuya just gives him head pats and completely dismisses the mysterious dangerous aura Dazai tries to portray. He’s just so tiny and like a wet cat.

Lmao I’m just having fun with this. Thank you for letting me ramble and I’m looking forward to whatever you come out with this.

YES POOR BABY 16Y/O CHUUYA he is probably going to be having the WORST time in this fic i feel so bad bc he is going to be going through it!! fresh out of a fight where he just had so much turned upside down, fresh from his grief of the Flags, and thrown into the chaos without a moment to think. not to share spoilers >> but >> i mean who do we THINK is going to be going to get him when he first arrives in the future 😔 he is going to have to deal with a Dazai who knows more about him than he can even imagine.

and that's to say nothing of 22y/o Dazai himself, who will certainly be facing many dilemmas of his own!! oh i am so excited to play with his character and how he handles the whole situation. suddenly faced with a version of his partner pre-leaving the mafia, who doesn't know the history they have together, who is in the middle of some of the worst moments in his life and Dazai knows all of it. and, worst of all, who is questioning his humanity again!! and a Dazai who has a chance he couldn't take before-

and of course, 22y/o Chuuya facing down the worst moments in his life, now with the knowledge of what is coming, of things he could maybe prevent, but knowing that it's too late for some already. having to face a 16y/o Dazai again, a Dazai who he already trusts but who doesn't trust him quite yet. who doesn't know their history, doesn't know his own future, doesn't know where he'll end up one day. but who is a kid despite it all and Chuuya can appreciate that now in ways he couldn't have at 16. also Chuuya being able to gloat about being an executive to a Dazai who hasn't yet reached that point lmao he will absolutely take any ammunition he has now while he can.

but again, he is also facing Verlaine again, facing people he couldn't save the first time, and facing the question of if he can now, if he could change anything at all, and would he?

and 16y/o Dazai as well! who is now being faced with a Chuuya who is so much more mature, who is so much harder to rile up, and who is carrying weight that Dazai can't yet understand on his shoulders. a Chuuya who, for once, knows everything while Dazai is still trying to piece together the puzzle. and a Chuuya who is the only person to see Dazai for what he is- a child. and the only one to treat him that way. and he has no idea what to do with that, because what can he do?

and then, of course, there is Verlaine suddenly facing an older version of his brother, there is Adam who i am sure will be having the time of his life (<- he will be suffering), Shirase who is also suddenly faced with his friend's ex-friend's future, Detective Murase who will see the kid he was trying to protect grown up and alive despite his circumstances.......

and, of course! the agency facing such a young version of Chuuya, the shenanigans that they will try to pull with him lmao

Dazai Osamu

At first, Dazai thinks you’re playing a prank on him when he wanders from the bedroom one morning to find you sitting on the kitchen floor. As he gets closer, though, red flags start popping up. When he notices that you’re just staring blankly at the pictures tacked to the fridge, he’s really unsettled. Slowly, he crouches next to you, gently laying a hand on your shoulder. “_______?” he asks, shaking you a bit. “Are you okay?” When you turn to him with a confused “Who’s that?” his heart immediately drops. What’s happening, he doesn’t know, but it’s clear something very bad is going on.

As much as Dazai wants to start pelting you with questions, he refrains. Disorienting you even more than you already are isn’t going to help anything. Instead, he starts out with simple questions; ‘Do you know how you got here?’, ‘Where do you go to work?’, ‘What’s your phone number?’. As you come up empty every time, Dazai slowly pieces together what’s wrong. He sets a box of pictures in front of you, hoping a familiar face might jog your memory, and then sneaks away to call Yosano.

After Yosano’s evaluated you is when Dazai really starts struggling. While he wants to do everything he can to fix you, it is your body; what if you don’t even want treatment? The fact that this issue is entirely beyond his control eats at him, and Dazai struggles between subtly manipulating you into seeking help or simply letting you decide what the next step’s going to be.

From the moment Dazai realizes what’s happened, he pours everything he has into looking on the bright side. He refuses to give in to despair and mope for the rest of his life. Even if Dazai’s completely crushed that your life together is gone, slipped away without warning like dust, he realizes that moping won’t solve anything. After all, you’re still you, even without your memories, and Dazai tries his best to keep that fact in sight at all times.

Whenever Dazai senses you’re beating yourself up over lost memories, he just laughs, throwing an arm over your shoulders and tugging you in for a quick hug. “We can just make new ones,” he points out, planting a light kiss on your forehead. “Apparently, I need to be a more memorable person anyway, hmm?” he teases. Behind this cheerful front, though, Dazai’s just as heartbroken as you are that the past’s all but disappeared.

He doesn’t say anything about it, but Dazai’s scared shitless that he’ll wake up one morning and you’ll be gone. After all, what’s keeping you from leaving him? Why would you tie yourself down to someone who you don’t know anything about? Dazai often stares at you for hours before he falls asleep, terrified that’s going to be the last glance of you he’ll ever be blessed with.

Nakahara Chuuya

Chuuya immediately knows something’s up when he wakes up one morning only to see you staring at him, horrified like you’ve just witnessed him burn down an old people’s home. As soon as you flinch when he reaches out to you, whispering a concerned “_____?”, Chuuya realizes something’s horribly wrong. He’s on the phone with the Port Mafia’s best doctor in seconds, mainly just so that his panicking mind can focus on something other than being frenzied.

Whether to treat you like a stranger or like his lover tears Chuuya apart; clearly, tugging you into his arms until the doctor arrives isn’t the best course of action, seeing as you’re already terrified. Kicking you out of his bedroom to wait by the front door doesn’t seem wise, either, though; and honestly, he couldn’t be so heartless to you if he tried.Chuuya settles for sitting stiffly next to you on the edge of the bed. The air’s thick and awkward, and Chuuya’s barely resisting the urge to practically tackle you and squeeze you close, but he just doesn’t know what else to do.

After the doctor leaves, Chuuya carefully threads his hands through yours, sighing. He explains that he’s had some time to think about this whole mess while you were being diagnosed, and that he perfectly understands if you want to leave him. If you want to go out and restart your life on your own terms, there’s no hard feelings; Chuuya even offers to pay for anything you need, whether it’s groceries or house rental, until you’re back on your feet. He’ll be heartbroken if you go, of course, but he simply couldn’t live with himself if you only stayed with him because you felt like you had to. Chuuya also points out that if you’re willing to work through it with him, he’d love to try to keep your relationship alive. It won’t be easy by any means, and he understands that, but Chuuya loves you enough to fight through anything.

Chuuya practically becomes addicted to pictures. Wherever you are, his phone camera’s out, capturing everything. He’s completely aware that this could happen again. If so, Chuuya wants you to be able to at least have a few memories. Maybe photographs can’t compare to memories in your head, but at least if all your dates are documented like this, you won’t have to potentially restart your life from scratch again.

Finding a cure becomes Chuuya’s top priority. He’ll fund an entire research program if he has to. Even if you eventually decide that you’re alright, that you don’t want old memories back, still Chuuya persists. He respects your decision, but he wants that option open to you if you ever change your mind.

If modern medicine can’t piece your past back together, Chuuya turns to the foolproof solution; ability users. After all, if someone exists that’s permanently protected from lemon-shaped bombs, shouldn’t there be somebody out there that can help you? Chuuya uses the Port Mafia to sniff out and recruit dozens of potential ability users, offering a ridiculous amount of money to anyone that comes forward, able to rebuild your mind.

ok so life has been kind of busy but I wanted to let you know that I absolutely adore every tidbit of black hole time fuckery. Know that I’m absolutely thinking about it like all the time. Do you think that when 16!Chuuya learns that Dazai is a detective he’ll think about Detective Murase and how Murase promised Chuuya to show him the light but never got the chance to?

(I went back to check what you responded last time and it seems Murase is alive for now). On that note do you think 22!Chuuya will try to keep Murase alive so that 16!Chuuya will have a shit at leaving the mafia?

I also have this image of 16!Chuuya and Ranpo getting along (idk why and it would be a funny contrast to 22!Chuuya). Like I’d figure Ranpo would deduce a good bit of what going on with Chuuya with one look and like be a quiet ? space for Chuuya when he gets overwhelmed. Like and the image of Ranpo giving 16!Chuuya a piece of candy to make Chuuya feel better like he did with Kyoka just seems adorable lol. I would also like to like Kenji would take an immediate liking to him as he did his adult counterpart. On that note can I ask how you think the agency would interact with Chuuya? Ahhhhhh. 16Chuuya is absolutely going to be reminded of Murase! he's the only detective he knows well, after all! though you are right; 16Chuuya doesn't actually know all of Verlaine's plans yet bc he learns them from Adam after the fact. the only ones he knows about now are the Flags :/ but that's still quite the blow to the poor child

and of COURSE 22Chuuya is going to do everything he can to fuck with the timeline I MEAN save Murase. he wasn't strong enough to protect him the first time, along with the fact that he hadn't yet realized that Murase was even a target until it was too late. but now, Chuuya is a lot more steady and confident in his abilities, knows better what he's capable of, and he'll be entering the fight with a better idea of what Verlaine is capable of! i'm so excited to write Verlaine seeing and dealing with 22Chuuya you have no idea

also YES he ADA with 16Chuuya is one of the things that really inspired a lot of this fic so i cannot wait to play with all of their dynamics!!! i don't know that Ranpo will necessarily be a "quiet" place for Chuuya, but Chuuya at 16 has less of a handle on his ability to hide what he's thinking, plus having just met Verlaine means that Ranpo will be able to (and also willing to, since i don't think he would have even considered analyzing 22Chuuya) look into him more, his character, his past, and figure out what's going on with him. so Ranpo will have somewhat of an understanding with Chuuya and i live for them having some sort of odd friendship that the rest of the ADA doesn't really understand all too well

the "quiet" place will probably actually come more from Kunikida! who is another person i adore the idea of Chuuya eventually coming to have an interesting friendship with. but also, i think Kunikida's past as a teacher means that he has more of a protective inclination towards kids and while he can be cruel to them (re: trying to keep Atsushi from recruiting Kyouka) a mixture of Chuuya's situation and Dazai's own protectiveness of him will soften Kunikida some. and he may not really LIKE harboring a child that at this point was already part of the Port Mafia, he'll still be a begrudging safe place for him

i also love the idea of Chuuya having always just been really good with people younger than him bc of being "king" of the Sheep, so he is obviously going to take a liking to Kenji and probably Kyouka as well lmao, trying to take them under his wing even though they certainly don't need his protection simply because he's still used to having to protect the kids from the Sheep (and Dazai is absolutely going to feel his heart break some seeing this reaction, because Chuuya is only a year out of being the Sheep's protector and old habits die hard)

that said, things will certainly be a little tense on the ADAs side at the start because obviously even if he's 16, Chuuya was no less of a threat back then and he WAS still Port Mafia. and they still remember him at 22 as well. but they'll get over it <3 Chuuya and ADA bonding will definitely happen <3<3
