Summary: You’ve struggled with PCOS and the resulting hirsutism since puberty. It’s one of your biggest insecurities. After being taunted in the gym, Bucky shows you just how beautiful he thinks you are.

Notes: Reader has hair long enough to hide her face behind (so at least shoulder length) and a medical condition. This came about after a discussion in the TCC discord re: PCOS. This one is for all y’all out there with PCOS, especially those who struggle with hirsutism (basically means you grow hair where cisgender women typically don’t)

Your alarm started blaring at 6, a full two hours before you had to report for training. Bucky heard it every morning. You’d take a shower, which confused him. If you were going to get sweaty, why shower beforehand? He knew how long you took in the shower, the wall of your bathroom shared with his. 25 minutes, unless you were washing your hair. It always baffled him how you could take so long in the shower when you only needed to wash up. He didn’t question you on it though. He had a feeling that would end with a punch to the face.

You never wore your hair up. If you did, strands of it framed your face, almost as if you were hiding behind it. He couldn’t understand why you would want to hide. You were beautiful. He could spend hours just looking at you. He cringed at how creepy that thought sounded. You also wore makeup, every day. There was nothing wrong with it, but some days he’d hear you complaining to Natasha about how much of a chore it was. He wondered why you wore it if it was such a bother.

You had your hair pulled back in the gym for once that morning. You were partnered with him, something that wasn’t an unusual occurrence. If he didn’t know any better, he’d stay Steve did it intentionally, knowing that he had feelings for you. You had a way of making him feel normal. Other agents looked at him with fear or apprehension, but not you. It was while you were grabbing water that he heard it.

“You’d think with Stark’s money supporting her she’d get laser,” one of the women said, laughing.

“I bet Barnes works out with her out of pity. No way a man like him would be with her, not with that beard she has,” another said, glancing at you. Your shoulders sagged. He frowned.

“I wouldn’t date her. I’m not into women with facial hair. No thanks. If I wanted that, I’d date a guy,” a third said. Bucky clenched and unclenched his fist, looking away from them and toward you. You took a shaky breath and excused yourself, saying something about cramps. Bucky frowned as you fled the gym. He shook his head at the group of women.

“What is wrong with you?” he snapped.

“What?” the blonde asked.

“Saying that about her. I’d be lucky if she said yes to a date with me. Do you get some sort of twisted enjoyment out of tormenting people?” he asked. Natasha walked over from where she had been training with Wanda. Wanda, who had figured out what was happening rather quickly.

“Ladies, looks like you’re training with Wanda and me today,” Natasha said, ending whatever was about to start. Bucky shot her a look, but the gleam in her eye told him they weren’t going to be happy by the end.

“Oh my gosh. Agent Romanoff, you’re serious?” the shorter of the women asked, excited at the prospect of training with Black Widow.

“Yes. Sergeant Barnes, I think you have a meeting,” Natasha said. Bucky nodded.

“Thank you, Ta--Agent Romanoff,” Bucky said before heading out of the gym and straight for your room. He could hear the music thumping faintly from your room. Stark had paid for thick walls, but they weren’t soundproof. He didn’t have to knock. You’d given him access long ago. You were huddled under your covers, body shaking with sobs. He sat down, pulling you toward him.

“Leave me alone, Barnes,” you said.

“Nope. Not happening, Doll. Do you let me sit and wallow on bad days?” he asked.

“Of course not,” you scoffed.

“Then why would I let you? Those women...they’re jealous,” he said. You snorted.

“Jealous of the sideshow freak? Come see the bearded lady. I would’ve fit right in with a circus,” you said.

“Doll, am I a freak?” he asked. You looked at him.

“Of course not. Jesus, Buck, you’re one of the most attractive men I’ve ever…,” you trailed off, your cheeks heating with embarrassment. He chuckled.

“Even with my metal arm? My scars? My past?” he asked, as he ran a hand through your hair.

“Even then. What does that have to do with me, Buck?” you questioned.

“Because, doll. I don’t care if you can grow a beard. You could go three months without shaving and I’d still think you were the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met. And you know why? Because you’re kind. You see people for who they are, not what they look like, not what they’ve done. Don’t get me wrong, you’re physically stunning too, but, that’s not what matters to me,” he said.

“Right. Me. Attractive. The one with PCOS. The one who’s body doesn’t work right. Who can grow a goddamn beard because her hormones are out of whack,” you said. He let out a frustrated growl.

“You have no idea. Your eyes, your adorable nose, your incredible smile, your body. Doll, I’d worship at the altar that is you every day if you’d let me,” he said. You couldn’t help the surge of arousal that shot through you.

“Buck,” you said before he cut you off, capturing your lips with his. You were always self-conscious when it came to kissing. Afraid of the stubble, of five o’clock shadow. But thoughts of that flew out the window as he kissed you. He tugged on the hem of your shirt, pulling away from you only to pull it off along with the sports bra you had worn.

You felt a wave of self-consciousness roll over you, questioning if you’d removed all the unsightly hairs that morning in the shower, before Bucky distracted you by kissed down your neck, finding a sensitive spot that caused you to let out a quiet moan as he sucked. You knew there would be a hickey there by the time he was done. He moved down your chest, finding your breasts. One hand came up to cup your right breast while his mouth kissed around your left. You arched into his touch as his tongue swirled around your nipple. You had never been one for having your breasts teased and played with. No, you had always insisted on getting down to it, lights off. But Bucky refused to let your insecurities win out, wanting to prove what he’d said.

As he made his way down, his hand continued to play with your breast, pinching your nipple now and then before massaging you. As he reached your mound, he brought his hand down, light pushing your legs apart. You obliged. He kissed up one thigh and down the other. He was so close to where you wanted him, where you needed him.

“Bucky please,” you whined.

“Please what doll?” he asked.

“Touch me, please,” you begged. He looked up at you with a smirk, settling more comfortably between your thighs. A finger trailed from your clit down to your opening, collecting wetness as it went. He was slow to press his finger in, and you moaned when he did. It still wasn’t enough. As he teased your opening, his tongue traced up to your clit, swirling around the sensitive nerves but never touching it. He added a second finger, hooking the two as they moved. Your hips bucked up as he made contact with your g-spot. You’d never had a partner do that before, be so attentive.

“Bucky,” you said, chanting his name over and over like a prayer. He pulled you over the edge, not letting up until your walls ceased spasming around his fingers. You watched as he brought them to his mouth, licking your juices from them, before palming his hard cock. You had been so lost in it all, you missed when he had stripped down. You took in his impressive length. While he wasn’t monstrously huge, he was bigger than anyone you’d ever been with, in both length and width.

“I’ll go slow,” he murmured before capturing your lips in another kiss. It had been so long since you’d been with anyone. He moved slow as he pressed into you. You moaned at the stretch. Once he was fully seated inside you, he withdrew, setting a slow steady pace, hitting just the right angle to make you cry out as he moved. Quick Overview of Birth Control Groups

I wanted to take the vast buffet of contraceptive options and boil them down to a very concise overview. Of course, future posts or asks allow me to elaborate on any specific method. But this is the abbreviated guide to perhaps narrow down your own choices, based on what you are looking for from your contraceptives.

We have 4 houses: Natural Family Planning, Barrier/Hormone-Free Methods, Combined Hormonal Contraceptives, and your Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptives (also known as Reversible Female Sterilization by a bunch of scientists who should never be allowed to name things pertaining to women’s health, ever. These are probably the same people who decided to use terms like “advanced maternal age” and “geriatric pregnancy.” Go suck eggs, my dudes).

Firstly,

Natural Family Planning

This includes things like basal body temp, natural fertility tracking, the rhythm method, and withdrawal. All of these methods are considered unprotected sex, and are the least reliable of all contraception for that very reason. To be effective, they have to be performed correctly 100%, even so, anything that may affect the menstrual cycle (which is A LOT of things, mmkay?). Since they are unprotected intercourse. they do not prevent transmission of STDs. I would not advise this method for anyone for whom an unintended pregnancy would be catastrophic; like a torpedo to your life’s trajectory. These methods are for those whom would likely be considering pregnancy soon, just not right this minute; but also wouldn’t be terribly upset should an unintended pregnancy occur. It is not for people who life high risk sexual lifestyle for which exposure to STDs is high. This method might also be the only accepted method to those with certain negative religious and/or philosophical views about contraceptive technology.

Barrier/Hormone-Free

This category includes your male and female condoms, cervical caps, sponges, and diaphragms; spermicides and Phexxi; male and female sterilization (vasectomies and tubal ligations); and the copper IUD, Paragard. These methods have a range of effectiveness with spermicides and Phexxi being on the lower end, barrier methods like condoms and diaphragms being middle-tier, and sterilization and the IUD ranging in the uppermost level of contraceptive effectiveness. People might choose these methods for any number of reasons, often citing a sensitivity to exogenous hormones among the top reason. Sterility is often the final option for those whom preserving fertility is no longer desired. While they can be reversed with vary degrees of success, you should not make the decision for sterilization with the thought of reversal in mind. If you are prone to vaginal infections, then indwelling barrier methods like cervical caps and diaphragms, as well as spermicide and Phexxi, might exacerbate the problem.

Combined Hormonal Contraceptives

These are your pill, your patch, your vaginal rings. They are very effective with perfect use but are often prone to user error since they are shorter-acting and rely on good compliance. They contain estrogen, so those with certain medical conditions should not use these methods because they disproportionately increase risk of blood clots and stroke in these persons. The benefit to estrogen-containing methods is the variety (over 70+ different kinds of pills), the regulation of menstrual cycles and PMS control (moodiness, bloating, acne), and the quick return to fertility when contraception is no longer desired. These methods, especially the pill, are often the initial method chosen because they are far less intimidating for many women than the last category. They also are the first-line treatment for many cycle and hormone dysfunction--they aren’t just for preventing pregnancy!

One quick outlier: the mini-pill is progesterone only so it is often prescribed if women are breastfeeding or cannot have estrogen for any other reason, but are only comfortable with pills. It can make cycles irregular or sometimes stop them altogether. This pill is much less forgiving than the regular pill and requires stricter time compliance.

Long-Acting Reversible Methods

Full disclosure: these methods are my FAVORITE. They are in the top-tier of effectiveness. This category includes the Depo-Provera shot, the Mirena IUD and her little sister Kyleena, and the subdermal implantable rod in the arm, Nexplanon (formally known as Implanon). These methods remove user error and are long-acting. The IUD and the Depo shot are often effective in lessening or completely stopping the menstrual cycle (contrary to the dumbest most frustrating myth ever, if you are on birth control you do not HAVE to have a period; and that is perfectly healthy). For women with really painful, heavy cycles, these options vastly improve gynecological health and quality of life. Every method comes with it’s risks though, and Depo-Provera is the one method that has been clinically shown to carry a risk of potential weight gain. Women also complain of mood swings with Depo, particularly if they are prone to anxiety and depression. Weight gain and mood changes are the two most common reasons for stopping this method. The IUD can be very uncomfortable to put in for women who have never had children and there is an increased risk of uterine perforation. This is a rare occurrence, but of course, every other woman I talk to seems to know somebody who knew somebody who had a really terrible experience with an IUD. My question is often as follows: “Who put it in: a gyno or a GP?” I’ve put in hundreds and have never perforated at uterus- but that’s a post for another time. We see a lot of IUDs for women with fibroids and PCOS; it is FDA approved for treating menorrhagia (or heavy menstrual bleeding). The Nexplanon is THE most effective method, even above sterilization. This is often a compromise between leaving pills behind, but not willing to commit to an IUD. The risks with this one include mood swings, acne, and irregular bleeding-- so I would not recommend it for someone who is trying to regulate their cycles. This method may also result in lighter or no periods, but unlike the IUD, it’s effect on menstruation for each particular woman is unpredictable until we put it in. Irregular bleeding is the number one cause for discontinuation.

Sorry if this is weird but! I noticed you really like seeing Killua as intersex, and it got me curious about different types of intersex conditions. How do you see Killua? And would it be okay if I wrote a fic about him being intersex, or would that be crossing a boundary as a non-intersex person?

omg omg omg omg omg omg omg this is the best day of my life!! yes u can write about intersex characters omg i would be HONORED!! (and i would love to proofread or sensitivity read it or whatever it is so i can correct mistakes about variations if there are any!)

so forewarning: i’m only one intersex person. i do not speak for every other intersex person in existence. what i take offense to or am not bothered by– other intersex people may feel differently. we are not a monolith or a hivemind.

OK !!!!!!!!!! WITH THAT OUT OF THE WAY (i’m very excited to talk about this :D)

there are many many intersex variations the body can take! and many ways you can interpret killua as intersex!!!!!! i personally like to be self-indulgent and see him as having a type of androgen insensitivty syndome like myself. (CAIS 46,xy) i can also easily imagine him with klinefelter’s or another variation with low androgens and/or high estrogen, but that’s my take! there are so many different variations of intersex!

intersex variations can occur in many ways, affecting primary (genitals), secondary (breasts/skeletal/skin/etc.), hormonal, and chromosomal aspects of the body.

i’m most familiar with androgen insensitivity syndromes (mild, partial, complete, ...etc?) because that’s what i have, but i have a better understanding of other intersex variations than what dyadic people would have because, y’know, i’m intersex lol.

but first here are some things you should NOT do:

do not: write him as a “hermaphrodite” or really use that term at all. it’s a slur against us. there is no case in recorded human history of a person having both working sets of genitals or reproductive organs. that does not exist and if i see it, i will hit someone. this is fetish bullshit.

do not: make up your own intersex variation. this happens all the time and a majority of the time it’s fetishy and ostracizing. it spreads misinformation about intersex people and our bodies.

do not: imply that someone can become intersex/medically intersex by transitioning or going on hrt. you cannot become intersex, it is something you are born as. your intersex variation can make itself apparent later in life, like in the case of PCOS or other hormonally-based variations, but it does not appear out of nowhere or because of medical intervention. it’s something that was always there.

do not: just write about how an intersex character hates their “condition” (a lot of us dislike viewing our bodies as a “condition” or as something that needs to be fixed. because for most of us, it doesn’t. our existence isn’t a condition.) and wants to be “normal”. this is ostracizing for many of us.

do not: conflate being trans/nb with being intersex, or imply someone can be “cis nonbinary” because they’re intersex. this reason, and also #2, is why i personally don’t like stevonnie from SU. yeah they were the first intersex character i was introduced to in media and i’m thankful for that... but it’s very clear they were sorta intended to be “physically nonbinary” which.... :/ doesn’t sit right with me. it’s very clear that their being intersex was meant to validate the fact they’re nonbinary. (a lot of other intersex people i’ve met are sorta split 50/50 on stevonnie being good representation, we all feel differently about this.)

do not: focus on our junk. there are a lot of intersex variations that do not affect our junk at all. i will strangle you.

do not: use an intersex character as a soapbox for your own views regarding intersex people and whether or not they should be excluded from certain spaces. these are intracommunity issues and concerns, not at all a place for dyadic people to insert themselves and their beliefs.

do not: have the intersex character glorify “corrective” surgery and choose to have it. some intersex people end up going this route, but many of us are against it and again, this is not for dyadic people to insert themselves in. (if a TRANS intersex person ends up having a “corrective” surgery so they can align themselves more with their identified gender, this is 100% completely different and totally ok.) (it’s also ok if an intersex person chooses to get surgery to reconstruct their bodies after undergoing a “corrective” surgery in infancy that they did not choose.)

here are some things i encourage you do:

please: name a specific intersex variation! if you’re writing a character as having CAIS– please mention it, or make it obvious! talk about how the character lacks androgen receptors! if you don’t want to mention a specific variation because you feel like it would break immersion, then make it somewhat clear or follow a pattern for a specific intersex variation! a good example for this is luca from astra lost in space: his specific intersex variation isn’t mentioned, but it’s very obvious he’s written as having klinefelter’s/47,xxy!

please: write about how an intersex character loves themself! too many intersex people have to read about how characters like us hate themselves for how they’re born, and how they deal with the dysphoria surrounding their variation. to see a character who has already dealt with this in the past and has already moved onto the point of loving themselves is a breath of fresh air!! you’re allowed to write about the internal struggles or dysphoria an intersex character deals with, a lot of intersex (and even trans! we have many parallels) people will relate to it, but 90% of the small amount of representation we have already deals with this. use your discretion.

please: if the character is also trans/nb, write about how being intersex can intersect with this! do your research!! for example, a CAIS FtM person (me lol rip it sucks) cannot go on testosterone because it is immediately converted back into estrogen due to a lack of androgen receptors. how does a character cope with this? (i “detransitioned” but other cais ftm guys find other ways to deal with it)

please: talk to actual intersex people! a lot of us are happy to answer genuine and thoughtful questions. you can also go to reddit r/ask_intersex to ask questions if you feel confused about something and can’t find answers online, or see things that seem to conflict with one another. i’m frequently on the ask_intersex and the regular intersex reddit making posts or answering questions. (don’t ask “how do i write intersex characters?”, just listen to us and ask specific questions if you need certain things answered.)

things to keep in mind:

for a lot of intersex people, depending on our variation, it can affect how to navigate gender identity. for some of us, we feel like the binary of “cis” or “trans/nb” doesn’t really fit/apply to us, because we feel isolated identifying between this. this isn’t the case for every intersex person, but for me and many others– this is how we feel. gender identity when being intersex can be complicated, and sometimes some of us just choose to identify as intersex and nothing else.

understand that all intersex people are different, and we all have different experiences and opinions! but as a dyadic person, please understand that sometimes it’s not your place to insert yourself in certain intracommunity discussions (like whether or not PCOS, hypospadias, or just gynecomastia are intersex variations. a lot of us recognize them as such, and leave the door open for them if they choose to identify as intersex– and those with these listed variations may feel otherwise about themselves and not identify as intersex. these are intracommunity discussions.)

many intersex people take HRT. it’s not a trans-only thing. an intersex man with a mild or partial androgen insensitivity syndrome might take testosterone, or an intersex woman might need to take estrogen because she can’t produce any. there’s a variety of reasons.

My PCOS, Symptoms and Struggles

So, you are probably asking, "What is PCOS?”

Well simply put, it's a condition where your ovaries have cysts on them. Hence the name, "Polycystic Ovary Syndrome".

This disorder only affects women and it can be genetic as well, and what this disorder most commonly entails is missed periods from months to years maybe, thus providing you with a lower than normal chance to have children. Some women experience it as miscarriages because you need a period to nurture a fetus.

To continue, there are other symptoms as well, hair loss, hormonal weight gain, insulin resistance, hormone acne, etc. This was something that took effect on my life when I was in my late teens, around halfway from finishing high school, despite my heavy exercise and good diet, I was 5'2 at 140. However, I started gaining weight and my hair started thinning over the course of four years which took a big shot to my self-esteem. The biggest symptoms that showed were skipping periods, painful periods and heavy ones too, hair loss, and fast weight gain. My weight goes up and down often and it's frustrating for me because I feel hateful toward my body working against me. It sucks more to have a family who doesn't understand that my weight gain is not my fault and my hormones acting up. There are other symptoms as well such as high testosterone so you might get chin hair and such.

I was honestly heartbroken to see myself become so out of shape and getting dark areas around my neck, I never saw myself come to that. I feel so hateful and resentful about how it has affected my appearance and how I have to change my laidback lifestyle to worry about my weight and how my body overreacts to carbs when I never had to worry about this before. I always keep thinking "I used to be skinnier, I used to have more hair, I used to be more beautiful..." and of course, those never help but can you blame me? All this out of my control?? That is frustrating and then feeling my clothes being too tight which was also out of my control??

I have no support, there are barely any communities with women who have PCOS, and it's hard to find women who are aware of it or has the same symptoms as me because it can show different for everyone. I just feel frustrated and resentful of all women around me whose bodies don't work against them like mine is doing right now, this is a lifelong condition and it tests your feminity quite harshly. I don't feel like a woman anymore -- just turning into some kind of monster. I know there are upsides to me and this is because I have grown maturely and emotionally, but this just all feels unfair to me, I feel so worn out and I deal with so much different stuff, and now I have an aching foot that I have no time to take care of because I have other stuff to do like work or just waiting my me time. I went from a simple B cup all the way up to a C cup and now I am a triple D.

I hate it, I am frustrated, I wish to find people who maybe would relate to me on this but I feel alone. Thank you all for reading and leaving a comment if you find any relation to this or just wanna chat with me about it. Thank you, have a wonderful night!

Show Review: Constitution State Wrestling

Last night, I went down to beautiful Groton, Conn. (”The Nuclear Submarine Capital of the World”) with Mark, Mike, and Joel to see a show put on by an indie promotion that was totally new to us. It was, in many ways, a prototypical Local Indie Experience. Let’s count the ways:

National Anthem

This, in many ways, is the earliest and most significant sign that you’re attending a Local Indie as opposed to a National (For Lack of a Better Term) Indie (the national anthem might be played before a Shindie, too, but that’s another subject entirely). Local indies always make everyone stand up for the national anthem, national indies do not. The local indie maintains, at least in vestigial form, a connection to the idea that this is a sporting event, and sporting events begin with the anthem. In this case, the anthem was a pre-recorded instrumental track, but people clapped after it was over anyway.

Public Venue

Unlike a National Indie, which will be in a bar or a rock club or a private fraternal organization’s event hall or a Catholic church with an absurdly Catholic name (New York City national indies only), the Local Indie show will take place in a high school gym or a town hall or a rec center or some other building they can get with a discounted rental fee because of political connections. In this case: Ella T. Grasso Technical High School, a magnificent example of 1970s brutalist school architecture. It was an air-conditioned gym, though, which you wouldn’t expect on the Connecticut shoreline, so kudos to the Constitution State Wrestling folks for that choice.

Advertising and Local Celebs

It’s not a Local Indie without a program, and this show had a program listing the entire card, providing some detail on the two main events (there can be only one main event in reality but whatever) and listing all the local sponsors of the show. As a bonus, there were also signs leading to the venue that just said “Wrestling” with an arrow pointing vaguely in the direction of the school. I cherish these signs of Local Indiedom! There was also a woman from a rock radio station on hand, whose duties were limited to introducing herself and then, later, introducing the women’s match. It’s not a Local Indie without an appearance from a random local celeb: TV meteorologists, disc jockeys, mayors, and others are all perfectly acceptable.

At Least One Wrestler Who’s in the Military

In our case, that was “The Soldier of God” Ronnie Ribbs, which is absolutely one of the best Local Indie names I’ve ever heard in my life. Ronnie Ribbs! “Soldier of God” is a little weird, though. Kind of a Taliban vibe there. Also, since that’s a lot of verbiage to put on your ring gear, that meant Ronnie Ribbs had the acronym “SOG” on the seat of his red, white, and blue trunks which, if you didn’t know what it stood for, could be a little embarrassing. Anyway, he was introduced as a soldier in the U.S. Army, always good for a patriotism pop at a Local Indie. Groton, though, is a Navy town, and when Ribbs was rolled up by opponent “Sensational” Scott Levesque with help from cheating heel manager “High Class” Rich Bass, a guy behind me said, “Just one more reason the Army sucks at everything.”

Event Name That is Not a Cool Pop Culture Reference

Constitution State actually fell down on the job here, as this event did not appear to have a name at all. But a key distinction between a Local Indie and a National Indie is that the latter will usually go with some impenetrable hip pop culture reference (or, worse, just use numbers for each show, like they’re the UFC), whereas local indies are still committed to calling things, like, “Final Showdown” and “Summer Smash Up” and “Brattleboro Brawl” (Brattleboro local indies only) and, of course, “SEASON’S BEATINGS.”

Random Ex-WWE/F Guy

In this case, that role was filled by Gangrel, who really should be getting some of the indie wrestling nerd attention being lavished on PCO. Gangrel is a blast to see live; he gets insanely into it, and takes bumps that are ridiculously bad ideas for a man of his age. He was in the main event here, and the crowd was pretty exhausted by the time it started, but he got them right back into what was really kind of a straightforward brawl with southern New England bad guy Trigga the OG, accompanied, of course, by evil schemer “High Class” Rich Bass, who I’ve never seen before. The crowd was NUTS for Gangrel. When he won, the pop was huge, although it was slightly disappointing that only Joel chanted “Fang and bang! Fang and bang!” Gangrel loved that though. He pointed to Joel and did the throat-cross-into-the-hook-’em-horns thing.

Local Wrestling Academy Students’ Match

Often, this is a battle royal, but thank God that was not the case here. Instead, we saw Matt Taven trainees Joey Bones and Todd Harris, the latter working a “rich prick from Newport” gimmick. Both guys were decent, show real promise, and, notably, had really good gear. Invest in yourselves, aspiring wrestlers! You’ll stand out from the pack.

A Comedy Match That Isn’t Funny

I like comedy wrestling. I know lots of people don’t, but that’s why they make different kinds of ice cream. However, there’s a Chuck Taylor/Orange Cassidy comedy match, and then there’s a Local Indie comedy match, which is basically like a Three Stooges short mixed with some inexplicable Attitude Era flourishes. In this case, it was the awesomely-named Necromancer (short, stout guy with Papa Shango face paint and no apparent ability to speak to the dead) vs. 2Buff w/ The Buffdad, a legitimate father and son duo whose gimmick is that they are not, in fact, buff, but that they constantly do that thing where they put their hands behind their heads and swivel their hips, kind of like a Chippendale dancer would do on an episode of “Designing Women.” Laughs were notably absent, at least from the four of us. Mercifully, this match was broken up by James Ellsworth, who was booked as a random ex-WWE guy but is now, once again, an actual WWE guy. What must he have thought, staring out at the 250 or so people in a high school gym, knowing that in three nights he’ll be facing Asuka on live national television in front of maybe 12,000 people. Anyway, Ellsworth issued an open challenge, and another classic Local Indie thing happened: some loud music hit, and a guy walked out to answer the challenge, but instead of the “Oh shit you gonna get it NOW” reaction from the crowd, there was puzzlement, as no one knew who the challenger was. It didn’t help that he looked like just A Dude in red basketball shorts and a white t-shirt. Later we would learn that he is Wildman Kongo and he would go on to have a bad match with James Ellsworth in front of a tired crowd.

Excitable Fans

Hot crowd, especially before the intermission! At the start of the lone tag team bout, which pitted Brutal Bob Evans and “Tough Tim” against two guys called Riot City’s Most Wanted who looked like indie wrestlers circa 2003, one young fan became so enraged at the heels that he jumped the rail, the first time I think I’ve ever seen that at a show. He was about 11, though, and his friends quickly pulled him back over, so we were spared the sight of Brutal Bob having to PROTECT THE BUSINESS by breaking a child’s jaw. Local indie fixture the Fogman was also there. He’s not really excitable, necessarily, but he’s a fan. We talked to him during intermission and, I mean, he’s an OK guy. He’s his own biggest fan, but what’s so bad about a little self-confidence?

A “Ladies’ Match”

Never a women’s match or just “a match,” on a Local Indie it’s always a LADEEEEES MATCH, the segregation compounded here by having the radio station woman do the only thing she did all night by announcing the competitors, Isana and Jawsolyn. The regular ring announcer was a rockabilly guy, complete with Rev. Horton Heat necktie and suede shoes. He was fine. Isana is a big lass but mobile and specializes in suplays, while Jawsolyn’s gimmick is that she is a shark. That should have gone over better in a coastal town, but people were mostly politely indifferent to this match which, in fairness, was slow and clunky.

One National Indie-Caliber Match

Increasingly, the people who promote and book Local Indies are fans of national indie wrestling, or Japanese wrestling, or British wrestling, or what have you. In this, their tastes diverge from those of their fanbase, which mostly consists of normal, blue collar Americans who just want a fun night out instead of weirdos arguing about BOLA lineups on Reddit all night or people who will slash your tires if you so much as say a disparaging word against Kenneth Omega. To try to satisfy their own creative longings, the promoters and bookers usually put one match on the card that could be on the card of a PWG show or Beyond show or AAW show or whatever. This is normally received by the Local Indie crowd with the same quiet endurance 205 Live is received by WWE crowds, but tonight was an exception. Matt Cross and JT Dunn, meeting for only the second time ever, had a tear-down-the-house 20-minute match that had the good blue collar people of America’s Nuclear Submarine Heartland going absolutely nuts and bananas. This was, indeed, a great match, one of the best I’ve seen all year: neither guy worked heel, but both of them wrestled as though they were actually trying to win an athletic competition, which is rarer than it should be in pro wrestling. Dunn dominated the first half of the match by keeping Cross on the ground and softening him up with wear-down holds to try and create openings for hard strikes. In the second half, Cross was finally able to take to the air, and made his spectacular offense seem credible and devastating. There were, by my count, three “This is awesome” chants, a “Both these guys” chant, and a “Fight forever” chant. People LOVED this match. YOU SEE, VINCE? PEOPLE ACTUALLY LIKE WRESTLING WHEN ok I’m not going to start with that. But it was nice to see a normal American wrestling crowd go nuts for a match that would not be out of place in Reseda or wherever the hell PWG shows are now.

Just because I've managed to stay employed (because I've been blessed with extremely understanding and supportive supervisors, who actually acknowledge how much effort I put in), does NOT mean that I don't struggle in literally every other aspect of my life. Often work drains all my energy, leaving me unable to accomplish anything else.

And it's not just the sensory issues (mine are rather mild, thank God), inability to read social situations or remember faces & names, and executive disfunction. Those I can handle (usually).

I also get mood swings, migraines, changes in appetite (sometimes I have no appetite, and sometimes I feel like I'm going to eat my own arm if I don't get a snack right this very second), digestive issues (IBS & GERD suck), insomnia, complete lack of motivation from my depression, random joint, neck or back pain, light sensitivity, racing or intrusive thoughts that I have to drown out with loud music, hyperfocusing on non-critical details, and so on.

Not to mention the irregular periods and hormone imbalances from my PCOS.

Plus my body's response to high levels of stress is to fall asleep (it's called "learned helplessness" look it up), which seriously unhelpful while driving. I keep catching myself doing calming breath exercises before I even realize I'm stressed or anxious.

I'm on 1/2 dz meds, and a bunch of supplements, which make my life livable but not normal or even enjoyable most times.Not to mention the strain this puts on my budget.

Yet, my current psychiatrist won't sign the dang form so I can apply for affordable housing for the elderly or "disabled". This particular housing defines a disability as any mental or physical condition that significantly affects an area of daily life. Autism and depression/anxiety are both listed as examples (as well as cancer/chemotherapy, mobility issues, and chronic health problems)

But my psychiatrist won't sign the form because she doesn't think I'm disabled because I have a job. Which is the most abelist BS I have ever heard.

Tl:dr Having a disability has nothing to do with employment, it has to do with your ability to handle life as a whole. Just because I can work and drive doesn't mean I am fully functional in any other aspect of my life.

Theory: functioning labels are an autism specific manifestation of a form of ableism that is directed at every disability

The labels “high functioning” and “low functioning” come from a belief that abled people have about every disability: there are “real disabled people” and “fakers”/“just needs to put in more effort”/“basically normal”.

The only difference with autism is that they are so open about this, they came up with specific terms for it.

They judge other disabilities the same way they judge autism: your ability to engage in things that abled people do. For example, take two hypothetical wheelchair users: one has a condition that makes walking painful, the other is paralyzed from the waist down.

They are both disabled. They both need their wheelchairs. But if the first one ever decides that bearing a moment of pain to stand up and do something is the easiest way to accomplish it, they will be judged as “not a real disabled person”. They may be accused of faking their disability, or nagged into pushing themself harder because they “technically can do it”.

The second one is less likely to be accused of faking (could still happen though, never underestimate ableists). They are more likely to be seen as “real disabled”, and as autistics familiar with the consequences of functioning labels will know, that’s just as shitty. With the judgement of “real disabled” comes being treated as inferior, refusal to recognize personhood, denial of autonomy, and much more.

This is all fairly obvious to anyone who engages with disability activism. The point is that these aren’t isolated forms of ableism; they are all part of broader pattern where disabled people are put in one of two categories: not really disabled, and not really people. Both categorizations have to stop, with all disabilities.

a new haircut for the battles ahead.

I am back from Portland and back in Idaho now. It was a very fun trip, and I feel like a slightly different person now that I am back. It's hard to explain how the trip changed me for certain. It might be the amount of frustration I within me just due to these last few days concerning the Trump cabinet picks and all these frightening executive orders that I am sure won't end any time soon. What really got me was those jailed reporters who only reported on the political unrest in Washington after the inauguration. Every night, Sarah and I would watch the news and speeches and inauguration stuff, and we just felt dumbfounded and shocked. I have nightmares. I am not one to cliche'-ly reference 1984 or Nazi Germany every time something is corrupt, but little moments here and there spark my memory of learning about this stuff in high school. I also feel at the same time, this great hope for the future of America and this positive vision of how unified many of us in the world actually are and how there is a very strong unity all over the world for people who see this positive vision of the future where we might actually overcome many poverty and racism and war and become scientifically advanced enough to maybe, just maybe become a type 2 civilization.

It's this mix of hope and strength at seeing so many people come together for the women's march with so many more to come, mixed with this real fear I constantly carry with me in my chest that won't leave me alone. Many of the people who said 'oh, don't worry. Trump will simmer down once he's in office' have turned out to be dead wrong already. Not that I didn't think that their wasn't corruption before (people should read A People's History Of the United States of America, or maybe 'The Untold History of the United States', or anything by Noam Chomsky to see what I mean on this regard. But this new government that's been sworn in is scary and I even sense that Trump supporters are starting to feel defensive in the reality that they might have been wrong about making America Great Again. It doesn't give me any sense of pleasure to watch these people eat crow. When I look at the long term effects that his policies and deregulation measures are going to have, I feel nothing but bad for everyone.

I also cut my hair short. There is this quote by Morrissey that goes 'if your hair is wrong, everything is wrong'. And I have felt very dissatisfied with my hair for some time. So I cut it off one morning looking myself in the mirror. It was either that, or deal with my naturally frizzy inconsistent crazy hair again that morning after so many others, and I had simply had enough. It's really simple now. I don't mess with it much. I think it looks fine. But I also feel very at home in my hair now. I know that sounds petty, I mean, how could hair make such a big difference right? But it does. It goes very well with this new stage in my life.

I ended up staying an extra week in Portland due to the bad weather. The trains shut down and my ticket was canceled. I got to spend quality time with Townes and Sarah and having that close friendship around me again helped me break out of my shell a bit. For the first time I was able to spend time in Portland as someone who has real prospects of moving there rather than someone who is a tourist there. I have walked up and down Hawthorne well enough to adjust. One thing that I don't know if I can adjust to is the fact that EVERYONE IN PORTLAND IS BEAUTIFUL. At least compared to Idaho. Even the elderly people dress elegantly. They are not afraid to wear unique hats. The older women's dress style really reminds me of the way that elderly women dress in Germany and France. The men are much the same, wearing interesting jackets and hats. And the young people all look very slick. In Idaho, all I have to do is have leggings on and I am immediately the most interesting thing on two legs in a ten block radius but in Portland, if I stand out at all, it is due to how average I am. I am going to have to step it up. I look forward to assimilating with the culture there in a way.

Also, over the past few years I have been incrementally been putting on weight. I had such a run in with my own mental health and eating disorder stuff a few years back that I have been weary of putting myself through that again. Also, I am not interested in anyone or attracted to anyone, and it causes me not to really think about my looks all that much. I would like to be thinner but at the same time, because I have PCOS and therefore have a lot of troubles losing weight that other people do not have, to put myself through that regiment once more seems daunting and depressing. And my reasoning has mostly be that besides, I have stayed active and I do eat healthy foods, so it's not like I am am suffering from malnutrition. I over eat at times and I also can eat junk occasionally, but I haven't really been crazy heavy to the extent that it has caused me to have a serious drop in my living standards. I am much too heavy for what I should be health wise, but I have been able to walk and stuff for the most part.

However, I am getting to this point where I have to start doing something differently. Some of this is fair, and some of it isn't. If I gained a lot more weight in my legs and behind, I probably would not care at all, but I am a very top heavy person, and I have a slightly strange pair of knees. They look nice and all, but I am knock kneed. It's not common and it doesn't really look deformed in the classic way you might describe deformity, but my knees stayed very small and didn't grow as large as other people's legs and my knees go in rather than out causing my legs to kind of move outward. I have big muscular legs and this has helped my knees maintain pretty good, but the weight of having been on my feet for a year and a half, as well as carrying around my upper body slowly gaining weight has put some stress on my legs. Knob knees tend to give out due to their shape. And I can't have that. It's one thing to be a little chubby, but it's quite another to have knee problems. And since the republicans voted against keeping the preexisting condition law in place, since I have a preexisting condition, if I end up needing knee surgery I won't be insurable and it will really suck. So I need to make sure my legs stay alright. I already messed one of them up about seven years ago.

That, and honestly, I find it will be hard for me to find work with conventionally attractive young people around in a town of lovely city people if I do not step it up in the conventional attractiveness department. I know not everything is about looks, but when it comes to asking strangers if they will hire you, and the kinds of job openings that are available to you, it kind of is, unfortunately. I am not a really bubbly person either. I am kind of awkward introverted. I do not hate my own body and I personally don't think that my worth centers around my looks but I know how the world operates. I think I am a pretty in some ways. But I know how the world is. It's really hard to find work if you don't look the way people want you to. It's not fair, but when you are overweight people make all kinds of subconscious decisions about who you are and how you live. They don't know I have a health condition or that I can out work many a skinny young person. They just see a big person and they associate that with being silly, sinister, or stupid. Those are the three archetypes of the overweight person. When in all actuality, I am none of those (well, maybe a bit silly). So I am going to have to go on a diet plan for awhile and stick with it. I don't want to, but if I don't start losing weight I will inevitably gain more, and I feel like in doing so, fairly or unfairly, I will be losing out on all the potential opportunities out there for me, and it will make my struggle that much harder.

I was able to get away from work for awhile from my trip. I took three weeks off. I ran out of paid time off though. And they failed to pay me for the time I did take off. Because the factory is going bankrupt. They don't have the money to pay me. I am feeling sort of concerned. I don't know if I will have enough money to pay my bills let alone save to move, pay off a medical bill, or help Jasmine become independent. I will be signing onto unemployment tomorrow because I have been laid off. The company basically mismanaged money and they are now millions of dollars in debt, but they have no money to pay back that they owe and nobody is buying product. So I am out of a job for now.

All in all though, I don't feel that scared. I know I will be okay. I have always found ways to get things done. It's just a matter of making sacrificing and knowing my limitations. In the mean time, I have decided to become politically active. I live in Lewiston Idaho (for now) I am technically still a Washington resident (Washington is only a mile away across the Snake River and I lived there a year ago). Basically, this town is the center of the Inland Northwest. The town of Moscow is a college town a little ways away, and it's pretty liberal, but for the most part, save Sun Valley and the Moscow area, the whole of this area, Lewiston included is quite conservative. I looked up my representative today, because I am going to start writing people in my government, voicing my concerns by calling and writing and doing whatever I can to be an active participant in politics from the ground up, and I discovered that our representative is pretty much awful.

His name is Raul Labrador. He campaigned with Donald Trump and was almost brought on to be a member of his cabinet even. Even though most of Lewiston is conservative, I don't feel like many of the younger aged people in this community are for Donald Trump. I imagine there are a lot of people who are like I have been, wanting to make a difference but being uncertain of how to do that. I know there are a lot of people who are not happy with Donald Trump but are uncertain of what they can do to make their voices heard. Many people don't actually know that it really does make a difference when you call your senators and representatives on a daily basis. This guy is a serious asshat, this Labrador fellow is and people need to know what this guy stands for. Which is why I am going to make fliers giving this information as well as the information to contact him and I am going to make my rounds and spread them all across town, particularly in the college area. I am also going to post something on Facebook that lets people know who this guy is. Somebody has to stick up for the inland north west.

I remember when I was at the primary election the democratic party members in my local community who hosted the caucus had the podium for awhile, and explained that republicans were kicking democrats ass on a local level all over the country, and people need to get more involved in politics on a local level to balance the power out. Even though I know a lot of people just don't care, I think a lot of people actually would care if they really understood how they could get involved here and there. It always seems like this elusive thing, exclusionary even, city council and local government stuff. It is always at play everywhere you might go, but nobody ever seems to know what is happening or where you find out what is happening. I think that what we have going on now might kick some people to step up their game, or feel the need and frustration required to change our circumstances. So seeing a flier in Lewiston I feel might make a difference. When I move to Portland, in a way I might be happier since I can easily be vegan, and I can be around like minded progressive people, but the truth of the matter is that there needs to be people who shift the balance of power in rural areas or we will not win the electoral vote. In the future, we may do away with the electoral college as well as the delegate system which I think is unnecessary and somewhat corrupt, but it isn't going to happen in the next four years. So in the mean time, people need to get busy in these rural places that have gone to republicans. People need to be reached out to in these places. I feel like a lot of people are simply frustrated and turned against democrat politicians.

To conclude, I haven't been this poor for awhile. I have fifty dollars to my name. It's going to be a tough but interesting stretch of time before me.

hi contemplating on making a second claim. how does this effect my renewal premium? situation is the policy holder had an accident where the third party was at fault and this claim was dealt with few months ago. now a named driver had a piece of metal flung at the car. the excess is only 50 and estimated cost to repair independantly 150-200. but i'm not sure how much premiums usually go up by? if for example making a second claim bears not much difference as a claim has already been made then I might as well do it through insurance. Had accident which was my fault in Nov 08, hit a van in rear that stopped suddenly going through a roundabout (less than 5mph) and his trailer hitch ball went into my radiator and damaged the hood, grill and radiator. Car was 1996 Honda in very reasonable condition, MOT'd and all in good service despite its 125,000 mileage, new tyres, exhaust, battery, and clean throughout. Had fully comprehensive insurance with 50 deductable, loaner car and legal support so paid to be protected. When car was collected from accident, collecting garage said at that time that due to the mileage my car would not be repaired. However it took 5 to 6 weeks for the insurance examiner to determine that my car was beyond repair, so I did without a car all that time. Despite repeated phone calls to them, they never called me back as their examiner was on holiday. Then when we finally agree that a price of 500 for my car in January 08 and that took some haggling, the cheque never and so I started chasing them down in early February. I am then informed that I did not disclose a speeding violation on my application and they would have to listen to the tapes of my applying to verify this. Again this took several weeks, and I again had to pursue them for an answer to which they then said I had applied on the internet so no record of a phone conversation. The internet application was misleading, asking for what I believed was 3 years worth of offenses. I've only ever had 2 speeding offenses in my entire life - both speed cameras, just over the limit. The first was at 6 a.m. and I passed a bus pulling over to stop and as I passed it got flashed. The second on the day I found my dad had days to live and I was rushing to catch a flight, and as in both instances was doing 42 mph in a 30 mph zone for a very short period. Nonetheless, I was speeding and paid my fines. I wrote to the insurance company and apologised for not telling them of the other speeding ticket from 4 years and 9 months earlier as I forgot about it. But I admitted it, and apologised in writing. Then then came back to me saying that there would be additional premium to pay before I would get paid for my car. Well, its October 08, and I finally got a letter from the insurers saying they are not paying me as I failed to pay the additional premium requested and they were not going to renew my policy. I have never been asked even after repeated letters to them how much the additional premium was, and what I should do. No replies. I have asked for my car back which they agreed to pay for, and now they state there is nothing they can do, and it is their final decision. I went to the financial ombudsman and unbelieveably DID NOT get a reply from them. I've even spoken to one of their survey staff who tells me that they are incredibly busy and it was probably put aside and not dealt with. I'm at a total loss as to where I stand and how to pursue this without spending more than the accident and car was worth. I've written to their data protection officer and obtained copies of all documentation pertaining to this, so by their records can verify all this information quite clearly. Finally, I maintained my cool with them at all times. Never once did I raise my voice or become unprofessional with them. My questions are: 1. Can I legally request my car back as it has never been paid for? 2. Were they taking money for policy on a car they knew that through mileage alone, they would never pay for loaner car, or to have repaired? 3. This has meant over 30 letters and more phone calls than that to deal with, and rarely do they call you back or reply at all. Can I claim for this time and distress? 4. Am I totally wasting my time?
