As recent paparazzi photos and star David Harewood's Instagram account recently revealed, actors Jeremy Jordan and Chris Wood returned for the superhero drama's series finale as Winn Schott and Mon-El, respectively, but they aren't the only familiar faces. EW has confirmed that original cast member Mehcad Brooks will also appear as James Olsen, a.k.a. the original Guardian, in the climactic hour.
According to Melissa Benoist (who is married to Wood in real life), having all three men back made the farewell even more special.
"It would not have felt right if they hadn't come back," Supergirl's portrayer told EW in an interview this week. "I loved seeing my friends. [Laughs] I loved seeing Mehcad Brooks. I loved seeing Jeremy. I loved having Chris back, obviously. I don't think it would've been a right goodbye if the people who came back hadn't come back, so I'm very grateful that they did. It's always difficult to get that many people back in the same place, especially in the pandemic, so I'm really glad it worked out that way."
She continued: "Story-wise, it's really lovely the capacity in which all the characters return."
An original cast member, Jordan departed the show at the end of season 3 when Winn decided to follow Wood's Daxamite prince and the Legion of Superheroes back to the future. Both actors returned for the show's 100th episode, which aired last season.
Meanwhile, the series finale will mark Brooks' first appearance on Supergirl since his exit at the beginning of season 5. Having James — who left National City to run his hometown's local newspaper — back means we'll likely see him team up with his sister Kelly (Azie Tesfai), who picks up the Guardian mantle this season.
Beyond the familiar faces, Benoist is very satisfied with the final episode, which finished shooting two weeks ago. The actress thought the conclusion was "extremely moving in how we wrapped Kara's arc," she said. "I found that really powerful."
That's very much in line with what Benoist told EW about her character's ending back in March. "They pitched it to me because they wanted to know if I had any input as to where I wanted to see Kara ending up at the end of the series," she recalled. "I had one request, and it wasn't even something they were thinking about doing. And they pitched me the end, and it's really lovely. It's a great ending."

They're trying to compare people saying they don't care about the real rep by saying people who like waffles are against pancakes and performative if they even mention them to try and make other people look stupid.
Which makes zero sense because they neglect to put in anything about the waffle-lovers using pancakes to prop up their fave breakfast food.
The analogy doesn't work simply because they don't address the real problem.
The real problem is that Supercrap is NOT ESTABLISHED REPRESENTATION. No one says Lobotomizer or Kara can't be part of LGBT+ family, but so far they are two white straight privileged females who love ridding dicks and were told more than ONCE that they are FRIENDS, nothning else.
While we have ESTABLISHED beautiful lesbian couple story, that is also interracial and REAL representation. It's not liking something more than somethig else, it's about supporting or not. What scs are doing is a simple example of liking their precious ship OVER a real rep.
Normally it would be ok, we like what we like and we want it, but the problem is Toxicraps are screaming about REPRESENTATION and call everyone homophobes for not liking a ship and a character that are not a rep, while IGNORING a lesbian couple and treating it as a supercrap's ugly sister, that can be used to shit on the show about "female's screen time uwu". The problem is that Toxicraps have BUILT their narrative on being the good sjws who fight for a better world and rep, while they don't give a shit about the rep. The only "rep" that matters are their ship. THAT IS NOT A REP. They are contradicting themselves.
What is WORSE, they give the producers and people who work in the industry a clear message that people DON'T CARE ABOUT REAL REPRESENTATION. It's not only about Dansen. It's how they treated every POC male that was obstacle for their ship (aka shitting on POC characters and interracial relationships). It's how they treated and mocked Mehcad and James about the police brutality ep when he talked about his real life experiences. It's how they sent him death threats and then mocked him about it. It's how they scream now how Nia has too much focus and screen time.
And let me say it, because it pisses me off for some time.
I'm asexual. Some time ago I saw a person saying Kara gives asexual vibes.
There was no single fucking moment of Kara giving that vibes. Since the FIRST ep she is established as someone who desires relationships, intimacy AND SEX. This is Kara. This is her sexuality. This is who she is. The show gives a clear message.
My point is I would seriously fucking love to see her or other characters being asexual. But since the FUCKING BEGINING. I want to see them, established since the first fucking scene. Clear, obvious message. I don't want the bullshitery done in the last ep of the entire series, while the whole story CONTRADICTS it. And it's a fucking slap to the face of people who identify with this or that sexuality.
Yes, people explore their sexualities and discover them even when they are adult and old. But that's not the point. We already have this type of stories.
Some people scream they are queerbaited while they create the environment for the producers to do it. If you fucking IGNORE real rep, real lgbt+ couples and demand a couple kiss and be canon out of nowhere in the last ep then why you are fucking surprised we don't get that many main characters being lgbts??? Because socks that are not really rainbow? Because of parallels with couples from other shows that mean NOTHING? Because what means a shit is the CANON of the show???
Not sure if I expressed myself clearly but it pisses me off for a long, long time.

Bad Hollywood Wigs
So, all of them I guess.
This was a request from @keeloves and I feel like a couple other anons a while ago and I haven’t done a post like this in a long time so why not!
Let me preface this by saying that, culturally, hair is important to Black people. It’s important me, and I think, taking care of my hair is a cultural tether to my ancestors as much as it is a major part of my identity. So that being said, I think it’s...bafflingly egregious that major networks and studios that have millions to bang out CG saturated movies and/or shows, but can’t spend like....$200 on a good wig, for anybody but ESPECIALLY Black people is....remarkably perplexing, but I guess since so many Black actors and models have had to do their own makeup on set and come with their hair done, we can, as usual chalk this up to more antiblackness. Anyway. Here is, my list of bad wigs from some characters and shows I’m sure a lot of people are familiar with, as well as, some good ones for contrast. I’ll keep it short bc I think it’s easy to get the point across.
Bonnie. I had to start here tbh. A CLOSURE? In 2009?! I feel so utterly disrespected by this entire situation. A closure, on top of her new growth. And in THIS outfit? Everything about this is offensive. Bonnie deserved better.
What in the half-wig hell. She looks exactly like how I used to do my own hair when I was 17, with a $60 budget. ON A MAJOR NETWORK? Someone should have been fired.
Girl.
Michonne. No but honestly, what the fuck. Danai Gurira is too beautiful for this level of disrespectful uglification. A FULL CAP WIG ON AMC IN 2019?! NOT. EVEN. LACE?!
Meanwhile Black women, can create this, a REAL WIG.
Sasha vs. Michael Burnham Speaking of walking dead. I can’t believe they did better by Sonequa letting her wear her natural hair, vs. the monstrosity star trek subjected us to for 2 seasons (her season 3 wig is also terrible but can’t find good photos rn.
And they even had the AUDACITY to gel this helmet with no part down. This is a hairstyle I expect to see from an ashy male blerd at comic con who is kinda growing out his perm. Not on a beautiful woman like Sonequa.
THIS is what she deserved.
Mehcad Brooks as whatever this character was. What a sin.
MEANWHILE //REGULAR// BARBERS ARE DOING THIS?? Come on.
Elena You know, the nerve to not even pluck this hairline.
girls on IG have better wigs bitch.
The nerve of colonizers to take this thing right outta the box, DYE it this despicable colour and AGAIN not pluck the hairline OR CUT THE FUCKING HAIR TO FRAME HER FACE!?!? Whew Satan is at work with this thing.
Again, girls on IG are EATING HOLLYWOOD UP WITH WIGS.
I feel like if we just started giving local hairdressers these big contracts to slay people’s wigs on set, we’d have such a different experience lmao.
#hollywood#bad wigs#every last one of them#is a monstrosity#antiblackness#hairline hate crimes#request#long post

not staz nair getting defensive in his instagram story because the fans don’t want william back💀 he’s projecting so much how pathetic
tbh i really do not care. if i were him i would honestly get off social media & not engage w fans if ppl not liking his character gets him so riled up. but i have no interest in berating him esp given the racism that mehcad faced bc ppl didn’t like james that i’m sure staz has been receiving also & i’m certainly not going to perpetuate or encourage that by attacking him constantly for w/e reason. obsessing over everything he does just to criticize it is pointless. it’s the final season of the show and talking abt how much u hate him isn’t going to change anything. maybe engage w someone that u actually like instead 🙏
#i simply do not care abt staz. that is all.#if he says some dumb shit then it would b worth talking abt. otherwise. who cares.#anonymous#ask //

Yeah, so the SC fandom exploded when, once again, someone associated with the show has told them the ship is not happening. His name is J. Holtham, and he contributed four episodes for S5, including 5x07. He's brand new to the show.
*sigh* It never ends, does it? I looked into this, and I need to ask the Supercorp fandom a serious question.
What in the actual fuck is wrong with you people?
The writers, producers, and even some of the actors have told you they’re not taking Lena and Kara in a romantic direction. They’ve told you this for years. Over and over again. Every. Single. Season.
And every single time, without fail, you ignore them, claim they’re leading you on, and then act like victims.
You are not the fucking victims in this scenario. YOU have persisted with this ship, NOT the writers. YOU have started entire harassment campaigns against actors who had the audacity to exist on this show and be a love interest, primarily the male actors.
Good fucking God! Only you delusional fuckwits can spend literal years treating people like absolute shit and think YOU are the victims in this scenario. Literally, everyone who makes the decisions of this show has been honest with you over and over again, it’s not their fault that you refuse to fucking believe it.
Here’s a big dose of reality for you. You lost any goddamn right to play the victim when you started to attack the male actors of this show. You lost A LOT of sympathy from other parts of the fandom on top of that because you just kept getting worse! You even tried to dragon other parts of the fandom into your bullshit. I mean, holy shit, the Supercorp fandom has been desperately trying to absorb the Alex and Kelly shippers and the Nia Nal fandom into their collective hatedom since their inception.
Last season they tried ESPECIALLY hard to do that, trying to rope those other fandoms together to protest about the show once again being truthful about not making Supercorp canon, even though the SC fandom, Dansen, and Nia Nal fandoms had absolutely nothing in common.
Dansen shippers and Nia Nal fans rightfully had problems with their lack of screentime. That was a legitimate issue because their screentime left a lot to be desired. The SC fandom tried to use them in order to inflate their numbers. It mostly didn’t work.
Hey SC shippers, you are not the victims here. You have made the Supergirl fandom into one of the most toxic fandoms on the internet. It’s gotten SO BAD that the cast barely interacts with the fandom anymore. Multiple actors have left this show, coincidentally the actors that you bullied, and then cheered when they left.
I’ll say this again like I have countless times before, but I remember you people liked saying “We really are that powerful” after James Olsen left. You cheered. You celebrated that you were successful.
And then when Mehcad decided to talk about how he needed extra security at a convention because of death threats, instead of being normal human beings you decided to harass the poor guy EVEN MORE.
All of this horrendous shit you’ve done, well here are the consequences. It would be the dumbest shit in the world to give you psychopaths what you want. That would not only be insulting to the multiple actors you have victimized with your endless attacks, it would also make you feel justified to do it all over again.
I hoped and prayed you would learn a lesson after Once Upon a Time. The Swan Queen fandom did much the same thing you’re doing right now and the writers didn’t give them a single fucking inch.
You don’t reward bullying. It’s as simple as that.
These writers aren’t ever going to give you what you want. If you had tried honey instead of a flamethrower then the circumstances might be different. I’ve said for a looooong time now that if the Supercorp fandom had taken a different tactic and instead been positive and supportive, then the writers probably would’ve made SC canon eventually. It’s not unfounded.
And just to deflect something I know will come my way eventually, stop using the minority of good people in the SC fandom as a shield against people pointing out your toxicity. It’s the most pathetic copout ever. You seem to think that gives you a free pass to say whatever vile, disgusting shit you want without any criticism.
It doesn’t.
To the very few actual good people in the SC fandom who just want to enjoy their ship and refuse to participate in the harassment, then you have my condolences, but it was the rest of your fandom that resulted in the writers being so repulsed by your ship’s toxicity that they won’t even entertain the idea of Supercorp happening.
It’s unfortunate for you, but that doesn’t really change the bigger picture. Better luck with your next ship.
The SC fandom is in this situation because of themselves. They’ll point the blame at literally everyone else, but SC isn’t canon because of them. SC will likely never be canon because of them. You don’t continuously punch someone in the face, ask them for a favor, and then get offended when they say no. They have a pretty good reason, on account of their bloody face, to tell you to fuck off.
So please, just fuck off. On behalf of everyone who is just so beyond tired of your bullshit, fuck off.

We finally have an original trailer for next weeks Supergirl episode (5.14).
Now usually I’m more than optimistic to see the new trailers or teasers, but after not only the debacle of 5.12, but other problems that have been identified before that; the fact we are rapidly running out of episodes (still unconfirmed if it is 20 or 22, although 20 looking likely as the date for end of filming is confirmed for 17th March), that no original trailer was shown immediately after the 100th episode (that has generally been well received by fans & critics alike, a considerable improvement), I am actually being cautious/worried over the whole thing. Why wait a full week to drop the trailer, instead of riding on the high of the 100th episode? I'm not one for trying to read things into anything, but it feels as if they might've decided to re-edit the trailer after 5.12 exploded in their face so badly. Of course I could be wrong, but with William in the episode it is possible he was in the trailer, and it could've once again become a whole level of backlash (more about William later).
Anyone who knows me will tell you one of my defining traits is I’m a pretty optimistic person. I like to be pragmatic, so I don’t get bogged down often with concerns of what might happen, rather my perspective is, let’s see what happens. I was of this mindset right up until Crisis with Supergirl. I still feel that 5a was by far the strongest part of the season, which normally I find isn’t the case with Supergirl. Usually I find the second half of a season is where Supergirl generally is at its best - where it can finally pull together the strands it has been playing with in terms of main plot line from episode one. By about episode 12 or so, we begin to get an idea where it is heading. That not only hasn't happened this season, with episode numbers dwindling fast there seems to be no way they can pull back from some of the honestly calamitous decisions that seem to have plagued much of the midseason.
I was relieved to see that the promo photos show a Dansen moment.
I am though also not entirely sure we're going to get anything that is meaningful between Kelly and Alex, as the background, synopsis and other photo suggest that they get caught up in the VR world. I have a horrible gut feeling, just as they're about to make out at Obsidian (some workplace making out hello, I'm here for that), there is an explosion (as per trailer), then the fallout from that.
Don't get me wrong, we've had so little of Kelly, and Dansen in general it will be good to see them onscreen together, and working in a hostile environment as a couple; especially as we haven't seen much of Kelly beyond Obsidian or wielding the shield. I hope her army training, alongside Alex's military training with the DEO actually get to be a tangible plot point.
As an aside, remember the little video clip Azie posted just around Christmas that had the Dansen fandom collectively falling down in incomprehensible piles of goo? While the quality isn't great, there is no doubt those outfits match these. So Azie threw one hell of a tease our way beyond what we thought! I do hope that means we genuinely see more than a moment of Dansen, but again Azie has spoken or posted about scenes she has filmed or have been part of the promo set of photos, only for a lot to not make the final edits.
So below are some of the other promo photos for the episode.
My concern is once again we see William at CatCo alongside Franklin. Which infuriates me, because (as I've said many times, this absolutely isn't because if Staz), but why is William once again there, when Nia is a journalist? Yet they pop Franklin in the shot - a reoccurring character certainly, but either remove William, or remove Franklin and allow Nia to be back as a journalist in Catco. Her actual job! I know we get the following episode (15) that is Nia centric, but as with Kelly, Nia's screen time has been so ridiculously low for an established main cast member, that I find it impossible to understand why they couldn't have at least allowed them screen time in these circumstances.
But no, again William is the journalist. Even Franklin is a journalist. Nia is MIA. I'm beginning to think she doesn't even know what CatCo looks like anymore.
It's the imbalance I (and many others) am finding so annoying this season. Imbalance that wouldn't take much to address if they'd just changed scenes a little, without disrupting anything of note of the storyline.
So I decided to check main cast numbers, and it made for interesting reading. Last year had 9 main cast listed. This year it is officially 12. We can argue that James wasn't in many episodes, but he did feature quite heavily before Mehcad left. The same could be said for The Monitor, who is listed as main cast up until Crisis.
Equally Lex Luthor isn't listed as a main character, but considering his screen time since Crisis, I've no doubt he might as well have been. The same for Malefic, who was pretty heavily used prior to Crisis.
So even if we subtract James and The Monitor, and only add in Lex Luthor as a replacement we are still on a higher number of main cast from last season.
Honestly, this for me has been a big part of the problem, with trying to fit in too many characters at the expense of previously established cast. Add in that William's story has made absolutely no sense since Russell died, especially since Nia and even Kelly could've handled the same storylines; it just seems a complete mess.
This isn't about who you ship or who you prefer as a character. Everyone is suffering because of the uneveness of it all. Alex has no cohesive story so far (even though she has a good amount of screen time). Kara and Lena have the screen time, but it also feels really clunky of late, and getting ridiculously drawn out; although I'm hoping since the 100th we'll see it begin to smooth out. The Danver sisters, Brainia, Dansen, even Lena and Kara (whether you view it platonic or as Supercorp is neither here nor there on this and I'm not about to get into arguments that are not relevant to what I'm trying to say here), J'onn with Alex and Kara, Nia and Kara, Brainy and Lena; the list goes on. Every single interaction seems to be suffering.
We all invest in characters, but overall it feels like a mess of unnecessary pairings (Lex and Brainy, Kara and William primarily) or cast additions that has detracted from all characters, and the crux of the story seems to have been lost in the midst.
I really want Supergirl to show us otherwise, but this is about the 3rd or 4th time I've written similar posts, and there has been no or little forward momentum. Time is now against the show as much as the problems it has generated, and there is no way sidelined cast will be able to pull the numbers back up, even with centric episodes like Nia in 5.15. Will Kelly get a more centric episode that doesn't revolve around her brother? Nothing suggests she does, so she'll lose further ground, which in turn means so will Dansen. Brainy has been used a lot, but again at the expense of all the previous pairings the viewers were invested in (whether it was Alex and Brainy, Brainia, Brainy and Lena or to a lesser degree Brainy and Kara).
But hey. Don't worry. William is here to save the day and the girl. *sarcasm, in case anyone wasn't sure*.

I hope Mehcad brings up how both Supergirl and CW discredited Karolsen too. He’s been problematic since long ago but he doesn’t deserve any of the racism directed at him. Gosh I wish these actors actually know how to inspire on their social media instead of create more fighting in the fandom who consist broad group of people. I think I’m just gonna feel more anxious being a bisexual woc who has been beaten and terrorized by cops to have sc safe space pull another discourse. Logging out now 🙏🏼
I’ve been struggling a bit with tumblr because sometimes it feels so at odds with the reality we are currently experiencing, in the US and elsewhere. I feel so strongly that those of us want to think of ourselves as allies must face the horror and violence and the ugly truth of our history and society ... even when that light is shined on us. And we must turn it into action: every day, in ways large and small, for people we love and for strangers. It feels wrong to look away, even for a few minutes.
But I also see the value of this platform, which among other things gives us space for long form posts and discussions. And as you said, a respite of sorts to recharge, reconnect with friends, remember the things we enjoy, and discover new artists or look at media with new eyes.
You know from your own lived experience how insidious and horrific police violence is, and I am very sorry the fandom is turning into yet another source of upset. At the same time, I also don’t believe Mehcad or any other Black actor owes it to any of us to phrase things in a way that we find acceptable, or are exclusively positive in nature or wording. They are full of rage and pain - of course they are. “Celebrity privilege” doesn’t change the color of their skin. The issue at hand is anti-black racism, whether we like it or not.
Take good care, friend. Self care is also very valid and important. Hopefully tomorrow is a better day. :)

Hey, I'm the same annon from the SC ask 🌻 And it is really sad to see that, Dansen is the healthy couple we always wanted, caring and dedicated, it makes me sad the little importance they are giving them :( Thank you very much for your kind explanation, I saw somewhere that Katie was involved in something and I just got really really worried for her. Sometimes she's the most attacked one of the crew :( Nobody deserve the harassment or hate. Thank you again for taking the time for this darling!
Ohh the Katie thing actually happened a week or so ago, mehcad spoke up about some of the racist abuse he faced while James was dating lena. He mentioned Katie in that context but he’s had nothing but kind words to say about her and how she’s supported him. Some people took it as an opportunity to make a petition to get lena off the show which was fueled purely by homophobia bitterness over lenas character, not out of any real attempt at combatting racism. And it was quickly shut down by people and even mehcad himself. She’s definitely had her fair share of harassment but I think in this particular case she shouldn’t really be the focus of the issue or have the whole thing be reduced to that one petition which I’ve unfortunately seen happening. Also I definitely agree with what you said about dansen, let’s hope that changes in s6 and they’re more of a focus moving forward

Supercorp - Warning: Spoilers of the first 3 episodes of the Forth season
You know what, I haven’t been in Tumblr for a while, but the new Supergirl episodes are going all the way with Supercorp, I mean, really. Lena is going to save Supergirl from dying without knowing she is her best friend Kara. The only 2 reasons for that to happend (Lena saving her “because she cares, she really does”) with all the enthusiasm she had (and the love you could see a mile away when she saw Supergirl at the DEO) are: 1st - She knows Kara is Supergirl because she is not fucking blind like they are trying to make us think, but she knows Kara is not comfortable with her knowing that so that’s why she is waiting for Kara to tell her she is Supergirl, . Or 2nd - Her love for Kara is blinding her from literally seeing what is right in front of her, but she still wants to help Supergirl because she is Kara’s “friend” and she wouldn’t forgive herself if Supergirl died, because this would break Kara’s heart, so she’ll do everything she can to stop that from happening. And really, I do not know which one of those is better, but, probably The CW won’t let any of this to happend, let’s be real.
Can we speak for a second about Katie’s acting choices? Melissa’s are pretty funny too, but Katie... If I didn’t love you before.
Look how tight they are holding each other, like they missed each other, but it also looks like the actresses missed doing this, they missed each other as their character, they missed acting together, this is so hard to achieve, like, really, look at them, they have so much chemestry, thier love for each other is so pure and selfless. Mehcad’s face is... I mean, James’ face looks like he is jealous of them, like he really wants to be as close to Lena as Kara is and that even knowing Kara’s secrets he is still not as close as Lena is to her
I’m not going to talk out the fact that Brainy literally says there’s nothing they can do with Kara’s situation and the first person that Alex calls is Lena, but who am I kidding, I’m going to talk about it. Alex knows that Lena would do anything for Kara, I mean, she canon bought CatCo for her, so she calls her, even when she knows she doesn’t like Supergirl, probably thinking about telling Lena about Kara’s secret, because she knows Lena would save her even being mad at her.
Lena’s face when she comes in is as hard as a stone, but she is not mad, she is sad, she is angry about what is going on, she doen’t need for Alex to tell her Supergirl’s identity, she asks about Supergirl’s location right away, not needing explanations, she wants to help. This literally breaks my heart, she is with an asshole that said shit to her back not long ago, but she just wants to help, not even once she did anything evil but the only person that trusts her without thinking about it a second, her life is in Lena’s life and she doesn’t even know because of the only secret she keeps from her (a big one)
Lena doesn’t question why Supergirl means so much to Alex, this could be because she knows, she knows why
She looks like she is about to cry, she knows this is bad, but she looks at Alex and maybe remember why she is doing this for or for who. Everything she does is to keep Kara safe, you can’t deny me this “You are safer with me”, she kept Kara with her until she knew it was safer for her to leave.
Look at them, I mean look at them, the way they care for eachother is so pure, I’m really sorry for you if you can’t see them the way I do, because you are missing so much love
Also, this. The fight against Mercy, Kara is the whole time about to use her powers, she thinks Lena’s safety (even tho she was doing amazing by herself against Mercy) is worth probably her whole identity and life, because as we saw, Mercy and her brother escaped and that would put Kara’s life in not only danger, but she could get killed
And I love that Gif OMG Len is fucking perfect look at her and also, Kara is a cutie, look at them, they deserve each other
Her forehead, look at her she is always trying her best, I think this is the best compliment anyone could ever said to her wanting to insult her.

So, apparently Supercorps once again started post shit under David’s tweets, this time before the ep he directed was even broadcasted. He liked a problematic tweet and a shitstorm has started.
As much as I can agree that a responding to the tweet with a smiley face was not the best move, but we talk about a guy who was already harassed by them after the first ep he directed, he asked to stop posting negative things under his tweets, they ignored it and kept talked bullshit, he snapped, they created whole drama about how he disrespected them and how they put just opinions not about him (yeah sure), but about the writing and direction where the show goes aka William and Kara.
Now, months later, the ep is not even broadcasted and they once again starting shit on hiw work.
Also, it’s HILARIOUS that supecorp shippers talk about mental health while shitting on Chris before and AFTER he started talking openly about his depression and starting Idontmind. And it’s HILARIOUS that they talk about Azie and racist attacks on her while they have been shitting on Rahul, Mehcad (remember how they called him Mehcaka and put monkey stick on his face?), David himself and Staz. Don’t let me even start about the shit they had done to Chris and Melissa.
Bunch. Of. Gross. Hypocrites.

As someone who has no social media accounts, and thinks that much of social media is hateful, where do you see toxic fandom? Are people sending you things? Do you see comments on other people’s accounts? My online activity is limited to browsing three SG-centric tumblr accounts (including yours) to see if there’s any news about the show, and when I see comments about toxic fandom, I wonder how that information reaches you.
aw, that’s so nice that i’m one of your few trusted sources. i used to be so good at reblogging all the things, and now i’m hopeless, partly because i’m just hopeless but also there’s no one really good resource that doesn’t also keep a running queue of gifsets when all i want is the god damn news. anyway, i’m touched!
as a starting point, it’s literally everywhere now. every platform, every fandom. i don’t follow people who engage in shitty behaviour, but there are some groups of people that i know get up to shit and sometimes i check in on them to see what’s being done supposedly in my name as a member of this god forsaken entity we call supercorp shippers.
but there are two different kinds of toxic behaviour, and it’s good to keep them separate.
intrafandom toxicity is kept amongst ourselves. the infighting and the crusading and the endless hating on other ships and shippers. it’s honestly a real battle to just enjoy your thing in a social media space, but it can be done.
then there’s the outward facing toxicity directed at actors, which i suspect is what prompted this question. i almost said content creators instead of actors, but tbh it really is specific to the actors. (i had a lot of thoughts about why it’s specifically the actors who have become targets over on twitter if anyone cares.)
it’s on twitter. it’s in instagram comments. oh my god, the shit in instagram comments. anywhere you can contact actors in a marginally anonymous manner. the worst part really is that there’s absolutely no restraint, and if you’ve never seen it it’s probably impossible to imagine just how consistent it is. i used to be firmly in the camp of “shut up and be grateful you even have fans” but in the last couple of years i’ve developed a lot of sympathy for actors who refuse to placate the loudest obsessives anymore.
it takes a lot of different shapes. let’s use the arrowverse as an example! obviously the vile racism directed at mehcad and candice and now azie is the worst of it. and of course there will be people who are just outright racist. that’s the shitty world we live in.
but my take is that the majority of it doesn’t start specifically with racism - racism’s just a bonus for these people! there is so so so so so much hatred towards actors whose characters are “in the way” of a particular ship. when the actor is also a person of colour, racism is just another weapon in the arsenal to these people. i’m not saying these aren’t really the opinions these people hold - they absolutely do. but the actors who become targets of specific people wouldn’t have become targets except for shipping factor, and they become a target faster because these people are racist af. for the record, from what i’ve heard, the stuff azie has been getting is from sanvers shippers, and i don’t remember odie getting hardly any hate from those guys.
but she definitely got some, because the shipping harassment is.... everywhere. it used to be that you could open any tweet or instagram post from any supergirl actor and you’d see people screaming about supercorp and asking about katie. didn’t matter what the post was about. that has thankfully calmed down a bit but holy shit. that’s when i knew this fandom was Not Good.

I think its also possible that its some dream sequence or something. Rather odd that David straight up said Mehcad was in the casket so i have to believe that this sequence is like no big deal or something lol
ya “dream sequence” seems to be a popular theory (though i dont think people should put too much stock in the title of the ep itself) & it really was all too in your face to be spoiling such a major twist i Guess. we’ll see in like a month and a half either way lol
