"Tired" (Part 2 connecting to the Geras and Liu Kang au)
(I'mma set this up for y'all, all of these, will be in the perspective of Geras. In case y'all didn't know while I was writing)
Just in time to start such a sociable call as this, Liu Kang and shown me how lively it was to sit inside the teahouse that Madam Bo had upheld. Intricate furnitures of hospitality were accompanied with the comfortable cushions that would made a mortal wish to stay here a little longer. "It is a prospering business to what Madam Bo upholds, ever since the time we all battled Shang Tsung to restore time itself has greatly brought forth peace to both realms." Liu Kang speaks as he poured a cup of tea. "I can see it myself, but what is it that made you willingly show me around this creation we mode secured?" I ask politely, not wanting to disrespect his statement. "I wanted to show that life, itself, can make itself worth living if you look through the verdant economy that had build over eons. Not everything is all of staying beside the hourglass and to work tirelessly."
It took me a little bit of time to think about it as we both sat in silence, he was looking over to the beauty he had created. Each and one of the design he had constructed had been balanced. Only then when Madam Bo called was when she had brought a small boiling stove with assorted and steamed dimsum, meat and vegetables mixed together in the flavorful broth. "Here's your hotpot, the meat came from cow and pig. With vegetables and your seasonings to your liking." Madam Bo smiled as she looked at both of us, with Liu Kang smiling as he bowed in gratitude. "An excellent dish as always Madam Bo. We will enjoy ourselves for tonight." He was rather pleased of the sight of the food as to was I. Colorful pieces of the mixed greens and red meat showed me a delicious sight, the bubblies merely at a medium boil to only pop and make the food glisten with tasty ingredients as I gently pick up the chopsticks and the small bowl. "You can give it a try, I'd like to see how you like the dish for yourself." Liu Kang looked at me as I nod, taking the small ladle bit by bit as I had cupped myself a bowl of hot pot noodles, crabsticks, lettuce and pork. Slowly had I gave the product a taste, taking in the warm hotpot food as I seem to have grown quite fond to its addicting flavor. "This is... Amazing." I feel myself smile as I continue to eat, enjoying the dish as Liu Kang joined me after a moment of eating together.
"How had I not stop by for... This?" I look at the bowl I ha din my hand as I felt warm to eat a dish such as this for a lifetime. "Duty, can be a longing call, but nothing beats the hotpot when we're both restless to the things we must keep for this timeline to stay safe." Liu Kang yawned as he adjusted his headband. "Now I had come to realization of how tiring it had been... We both needed it anyway." I smile as we finish the hot pot in a share. Had I never had been ever once in a timeline, felt as if I had a father figure of my own. Guiding me to the proper way to becoming an educated pupil, it was nice.

Soft, sweet and sticky grilled Unagi (Grilled Eel) was gobbled up in a flash because it was so darn delicious. Plump Teba (Grilled Chicken Mid Wing) were a favourite on our table and they were pretty tasty too.
Snacked on a portion of the Yakitori (Chicken in Skewer) but found the chicken a little tough for my liking. We also had the Teriyaki Chicken but the plating was messy so I opted not to post the picture here. Could be due to the full turnout on the Saturday lunch with everyone clicking orders “Submit” on the tablets.
Didn’t enjoy the Negi Bacon Roll (Japanese Leek with Bacon) and the Kani Bacon (Crabstick with Bacon) as the bacon was too salty. A low sodium bacon here would help up the rating for it.

Restoran Ko-Ryo (Part 2)
Part 2 of Restoran Ko-Ryo:
Here are the complimentary side-dishes and appetizers that came in with the food that we ordered. There's kimchi, yam dumplings, fish cakes, broiled veggies, anchovies and vegetarian crabsticks, each of them having their unique taste. Yummy and flavourful, that's all I can say Xd
This is what I ordered: carrot juice. It's been a while since I drank this, and I kinda miss it. Tastes pretty good. Just the right texture and flavour and all.
This is what my friend ordered. I'm not sure what is it called in Korean, but it's basically a huge assortment of vegetables with a sunny-side up egg and rice. I swear I've never seen rice buried undeer so much veggies! LOL
This is what my other friend ordered. Again, I dunno what it's called in Korean, but it's basically chicken smothered in red sauce with rice. I didn't try it, but it looks pretty tasty
This is what I ordered, and it has almost the same pronounciation as the Chinese counterpart of this dish: Ja Jian Mian, which basically translates as noodles in fried sauce. The obvious difference between the Korean version and the Chinese version is that for the Chinese version, the noodle is clear and you have to mix it together with the layer of mince meat fried sauce on top of it, and the condiments is usually just cucumber and carrot strips, whereas here, Korean version is that the noodles is already mixed together with the sauce and we have egg strips instead of carrot strips. Ah well, to each its own. It tastes pretty good anyways, though I can't shake off the nagging feeling that the noodles and the texture feels like the Maggi instant noodles style.
Another few more trigger-happy moments on the cashier counter while paying the bill, though oddly it's one of those Chinese mini arts rather than Korean
So, fancy a little Korean? Go ahead and give this place a shot, and do try the original Korean seating style to feel the experience better. I wish I could, but maybe next time

No.106 Celery, jako, egg, napa cabbage, gobo
Today’s lunch:
Kinpira gobo (sauteed burdock root and carrot) [recipe]
Celery salad with chirimen jako (tiny dried fish) and ginger [recipe]
Pickled napa cabbage and spring onions
Rolled omelette
I’m trying the quick-pickled cabbage and raw celery salad recipes for the first time, and they are tasty! I would make them again. I left the celery overnight and the flavour really mellowed out nicely.
The pickled cabbage recipe is from a cookbook by Sano Makiko, and calls for sliced napa cabbage, onion, turnip and cucumber to be marinated in rice vinegar, soy sauce, sesame oil, and a little irigoma (ground sesame). It uses less of the seasonings than you would think, so the flavour of the vegetables comes through. I added a little crabstick to the portion today.

[Singapore] Salmon Samurai.
I groan every time my salad-loving colleague suggests going some place for a poke bowl lunch. It’s not that I dislike poke, but poke bowls in the CBD area are becoming hideously overpriced, with most starting in the $11-$13 range. And by the time you’re done adding enough toppings for a bowl that won’t leave you hungry in an hour’s time, the bill is easily 4-5 times that of a usual satisfying lunch at the nearby hawker centre.
So for those working in the area, affordably-priced casual donburi joint Salmon Samurai in 100AM is a welcome addition to Tanjong Pagar. The concept is simple, and similar to that of your usual poke bowl or salad bar style eateries but focused wholly on salmon.
Simply pick from a choice of a base - here, it’s ume yuzu rice, udon or salad greens - and then have it topped with Salmon Sashimi, Garlic Shoyu Salmon, Salmon Mentaiko or Salmon Poke (spicy and non-spicy). It’ll cost you a grand total of just $9.90 a bowl. Portions are generous even for that price, too.
But if you’re feeling more peckish than usual or if you’d like to splurge, you can opt for extra toppings include Onsen Egg ($1), Ebiko ($1) and/or Avocado ($1.50). You may raise your eyebrows at the price of the Miso Soup ($2), but it comes with a generous amount of salmon pieces.
My favourite combination so far is the garlic shoyu salmon on rice with an onsen egg. While not as pretty as the other toppings, the garlic shoyu salmon is very garlicky, which is just the way I like (but maybe not if you have an important meeting after lunch).
I also liked the Warrior Maki ($9.90), which is stuffed with crabstick and cucumber, then topped with aburi salmon, mayonnaise and chicken floss. A little on the sweet side due to the chicken floss, but tasty and great as an additional order to share at the table.
For those who are truly hungry though, get the Omega 3 Donburi ($15), which has both salmon sashimi and salmon poke. You won’t find it listed on the menu though. The story of this secret off-menu item goes like this - before Salmon Samurai, the space was occupied by sister outlet Shinkansen, which served Japanese-style protein meals. When the owners revamped the area to become Salmon Samurai, Shinkansen regulars were disappointed that their favourite donburi was gone. Given they had the bulk of the ingredients onsite anyway, Salmon Samurai started serving the popular bowl upon request.
And if you suspect that perhaps the reason why prices are so reasonable here may be because of the use of frozen fish from some dodgy supplier, you could not be more wrong. If you come at the right time, you’ll find the chef rendering down an entire salmon fish down to its component parts.
Unpretentious, filling, and priced right, I reckon Salmon Samurai will become one of my regular lunch spots soon.
Salmon Samurai is located at 100 Tras Street, #03-22, 100AM.
