Emil Sinclair (Limbus Company)
Mami Tomoe (madoka magica)
Rio Ranger (Your Turn To Die)
Shun Kazami (Bakugan)
Only two will move on
Propaganda under the cut
Emil Sinclair (Limbus Company) Propaganda
poor boy went through so much tough shit and then just kept going through it, he needs some love.
his whole family was murdered by one of his only "friends" and then she continued to torment him psychologically, even when she wasnt in his life anymore. and then he had to join a brutal company that requires him to kill lots of people and die repeatedly, which he is not equipped for mentally.
oh also one of the best ways to use him in gameplay requires keeping his sanity as low as possible. lil bro needs a break 😭
Mami Tomoe (madoka magica) Propaganda
she sold her soul to alien satan so she could survive a car crash that killed her family AND she had no friends before madoka and sayaka (not even mentioning the fact she died almost right after she befriended them) SHE LIVED ALONE IN THIS BIG ASS HOUSE WITH NO FRIENDS FOR SEVERAL YEARS LOOK AT HER SHES VERY HOLDABLE
Rio Ranger (Your Turn To Die)
No propaganda given
Shun Kazami (Bakugan) Propaganda
I love him he’s so cool and sad. His grandpa won’t let him hang out with his friends and play the weird magic game he invented the rules for because he wants Shun to be a ninja like him.
When his mom was dying in the hospital Shun stalled a battle with his friend because while a bakugan battle is going on time stops and staying in the battle meant she was technically alive longer. Later when he had to prove himself in a test to escape bakugan hell (it’s a long story) he has to fight a vision of his mom when she was a kid in a landscape of eternal sunset where so long as the sun stayed up they could keep playing. But Shun had to face that fear of time moving forward in order to help his friends.
A love this show let him win.

very glad eiji is sweeping that but im surprised no one submitted kenzaki. i love eiji dearly hes so special to me one of my favorite characters forever and ever. but if were being real kenzaki is more tragic as far as his character arc goes, im ignoring the ooo movie which shall not be named because its not canon to me and eijis character arc is entirely about learning to allow himself to accept help from his loved ones and to want things for himself and to let himself LIVE and WANT to live. whereas kenzakis character arc is devotion that corrupts in the most heartbreaking bittersweet way. you and the person you love the most can never be together. you save the world in doing this. you give him humanity while becoming a monster. also while were talkimg about tragic riders what about hongo my friend hongo and kazami mr his mom is dead and his dad is dead AND his little sister is dead.

Oc trivia dump
for fun, I guess lol
Miyu and Kiba have a total of 7 dogs in their house. 3 are ninja dogs and the other 4 are former strays Kiba brought home. Aside from Akamaru (Kiba’s companion), there’s Mari (Biewer Terrier), and Yuko (Shiba/American Eskimo mix), who are Minoru’s companions. (Haven’t names the other dogs or picked breeds yet lol) Miyu put her foot down after #4 stray (a puppy) was brought home.
Itsuki low-key wishes Miyu had more kids other than Minoru, but has never told anyone about it. While the Uchiha kids are more than enough for him, he always imagined having a bunch more grandkids.
Hina had 2 kids, but they passed during the 3rd war, which was long before Miyu was born. Two sons named Kazami and Hayami, who were in their early 20s when dying. Her husband, Mizuo, died not long after due to stress. While their existence isn’t a taboo topic, Miyu doesn’t know they existed due to Hina still being in mourning when Miyu was born.
Rui tends to intentionally cause trouble in front of Tsunade to catch her attention. But this lessened after her retirement of being Hokage. The two still have a strained relationship.
Rui gets rather irritated by the elder council due to them constantly urging him to continue the founding Senju line (since Tsunade is too old). While he doesn’t identify with any particular sexuality, he’s only been with 2 people. A long time partner, Zen, and a girl he spent the night with once (wore protection). He also isn’t fond of kids, so the idea is very conflicting for him.
Rui’s mouth scar was from a mission gone wrong. Bandits ambushed them while they were escorting a vendor. Haruka ended up seeing red and killing the remaining bandits in his own. He doesn’t remember what happened, and tends to feel uncomfortable thinking or talking about it.
Rui enjoys riling up others to get a reaction.
Rui often reads classified files, despite knowing he shouldn’t. He’s able to get away with some of it due to him being anbu. But he’s gotten lectured various times by Tsunade.
Rui and Zen dated in secret for years, even managing to dupe their close friends into thinking they were just roommates.
Rui and Haruka are both not easily swayed by gossip. Rui finds petty drama boring, and Haruka isn’t particularly fond of hearing negative things about others. Zen, however, enjoys hearing gossip,
Haruka is insecure about his dick size, since he’s had exes dump him over it (it hurt).
Hayato regrets having a second child, a son named Chisuke, who is single-handedly ruining his marriage with Pele by continuously causing him stress and acting like an angel in front of his mom.
Pele is an orphan, so she strongly cherishes her family and extended family. She talks with her mother-in-law regularly.
Masa and Kenichi dated briefly, but mutually broke up after a month.
While Masa is technically a cousin of Kakashi, she often calls him uncle. The two are related via their uncle, Hideyoshi.
Masa used to hate revealing she was a Hatake due to people using her just to see Kakashi.
Due to her more masculine appearance, it’s not uncommon for Masa to be mistaken as a guy. She doesn’t take it maliciously and finds it to be a compliment. Because of this, she’s often confessed to by girls.

Suddenly as Cusith is trying to process what is going on suddenly appeares from the large sunflower garden outcame a green haired woman, panting heavily exhausted from running. This woman is no ordinary woman as she is revealed to be most powerful and the most dangerous Koishisaur that is the only creature capable of killing and beating a Yukarisaurus Rex. This creature is known as the Mrs. Sunshine, these creatures are the more humanized versions of Ultimasaurus as they're the amalgamites of the original Yuuka, tyrannosaurus rex, ankylosaurus, the velociraptor, and the triceratops. However this particular Mrs. Sunshine is actually the alpha amongst them named Mama Scarface who wanted an easy and peaceful life from the violence and what's more suprising is the creature is Long Neck's adopted mother that took her in after her parents died by other of the carnivorous Koishisaurs. She is the only Mrs. Sunshine that ever raised a herbivore.
" OH DEAR, LONG NECK, CUSITH ARE YOU OKAY?! ARE YOU HURT?! "
Tumblr media
Long Neck and Cusith turned towards the Mrs. Sunshine all the while the tall juvenile is purring against the herbivore koishisaur.
" ...Hi mom. "
Tumblr media
" MAMA! YOU'RE ALIVE! "
Tumblr media
" A-Ah! Hello Cusith, and hello Long Neck I see my faithful companion find you first... "
Tumblr media
" Gave my friend a good fright I'd imagine... "
Tumblr media
" H-HEY! I'M NOT SCARED I WAS UH..."
Tumblr media
" Aha, yeaaahhh please come inside the both of you, and forgive him he's only grown quite big for a juvenile and become more hostile towards others... "
Tumblr media
And the four walked into the field of the sun flower garden as they made it into the old home as the juvenile Ultimasaurus lays down sleeping outside while the others sat around the table as Mama Scarface is now making tea for the two. The Kageronopsid Cusith set her arms forward on the table laying both her head and arms on the table and wags her tail while Long Neck sighed and glance around the home. She realized that this had once belong to the original Yuuka Kazami the sunflower yokai who's still a space kaiju to this day.
Tumblr media
Long Neck Glanced at Mama Scarface who's stil in the middle of making fresh warm tea for her adopted child and her friend and she asked her something.
" Mama, how long have you been in the garden..? "
Tumblr media
" Ahh that's a long story sweety you know how mama rolls these days, I had moved here years ago right after I raised you. I got lonely but I am happy to have my friend outside of the house right now. He's hatched from an egg weeks ago and boy he's grown so fast. Well that you already knew.. "

"Happy mother's day."
Characters: Shun Kazami/Kathlyn Preston
A/N: This is my first time writing like this on tumblr. Trigger warning like death will be ahead, please read at your own risk.
Plot: Shun and Kathlyn decide to spend mother's day together, visiting their mothers graves and open up to each other.
Shun Kazami's eyes wandered over to his friend Kathlyn Preston, two bouquets of flowers on the brunette's lap.
They both knew, today is going to be painful and decided to spend mother's day together as a way to support each other. Shun parked his car somewhere close to the cemetery. A sigh left his mouth, before he got out of the car, followed by Kathlyn. "I swear...every year, I dread this day even more." Kath broke the silence, their hand reached over to Shun to hand him his bouquet of flowers. A grateful smile crossed his face, however, the smile did not reach his eyes. He dreaded this day aswell. Infact, he felt jealous of his friends being able to spend the day with their moms. He wishes from the bottom of his heart, he could turn back time and hear the voice of his mother one last time. "You and me both but I suppose, sometimes life has to be cruel to us." His hand reached for Kath, which they took happily, afterall they both needed some sort of support.
Arriving at the graves, the duo placed the bouquets on the graves, both sitting down on the ground. "I'm jealous of the others." At that statement, Kathlyn turned their head to look at the Ventus brawler, a clear look of confusion reflecting in their eyes. "What do you mean by that?" The ravenhaired turned his head away, he hated it to cry infront of other people. Angrily, he wiped the tears which were prickling his eyes. "The others get to spend mother's day with their mom and we need to visit a cemetery for it. This is unfair, Kath. We deserve it as much as them to spend this day with our moms." The Mystos Brawler gulped, noticing the tears freely spilling from Shun's eyes. Wordlessly, they moved closer to the young man, wrapping their arms around his body. "I know how you feel...I know that Mama Kuso took me in but you see...no matter how hard I try, I feel like a fraud if I start to love her like a child is supposed to love their mom. I can't even remember what my mom sounded like and I'm terrified, one day I might completely forget her, you know?" The confession made Shun look at Kath with even more sadness. "So, I'm not the only one...I can't remember how my mom looks like..everytime, I try to remember one detail, the picture is too blurry. I can't even remember her hugs. Back in the day, they brought me some form of comfort but now? I feel numb when I try to remember her hugs." Perhaps, venting helped them both in a way to understand why they hated mother's day so much. "We lost them way too early and young. You're right, you know? We do deserve to spend this day with our moms but here we are..mourning and opening up about our losses. Maybe, if I didn't jump in the Doom Dimension portal, I could have prevented my mom's death.." Their arms wrapped tighter around his waist, the ventus brawler put his head on their head. He didn't know what to say, was he supposed to say that they would have died aswell? No, he couldn't add more pain.
The pair sat at the graves for another few hours, no words were shared after their confessions. Shun hated that he still had troubles opening up. He always felt alone, no matter how many friends he made, he felt alone in this world but of course, he could never say it outloud. He knew that everyone would tell him, they are here for him but deep down, he was scared that they will abandon him like his father abandoned him, like his mother left him alone. Kathlyn's eyes stared at the grave of their mother. Even after so many years, they still hope that this is some sort of cruel joke of the universe. They miss their parents too much but knew, somehow...they have to move on from this.
Maybe in a few weeks
Maybe in a few months.
Maybe in a few years
Maybe never
Time could only tell. Shun and Lyn both lost their mothers at a young age, even years later, the pain still felt the same way like it did back in the day. "We should head back home, it is getting late afterall." Shun broke the silence, lifting himself from the ground before he offered Kathlyn his hand. A grateful smile crossed the brunette's face taking his hand, as they lifted themself up. "Do you think our moms are proud of us?" Shun smiled in a soft way, his eyes glancing to the graves. "I'm sure, they are. We did save the world alot of times." The sentence alone lifted a weight off Kath's heart, wrapping their arm around his waist. "Come on...let's go home..." The pair began to walk away.

(if its still allowed) thoughts on Rei pseudo adopting Kaito?
(It's always allowed)
It's complicated because they don't have many interactions, and the last time KID saw Amuro the man tried to kill him by explosions (even if at that time, Rei didn’t know it wasn't Sherry but instead KID). So KID knows he's ready to kill, even if he doesn’t know what exactly is going on, and he doesn’t really believe he’s one of the good guys.
So it would take a lot of work on Rei’s part to start trusting him. And considering the fact Rei wear at least 3 masks depending on the situation at hand, he isn’t one to trust easily. By this point in canon, all his close friends are dead.
The only relationship he got is Vermouth (who is kind of his boss kind of his ennemy kind of someone he blackmails), Azusa (who is a co-worker for his cover identity and doesn’t have any idea of the extent of his work), Kazami (who is also a co-worker but of lower rank, and not exactly a friend), Kogoro (who is more like a target to his study) and Conan (who is an enigma, they both know the other got secrets but do not know the extent of those secrets). So more like acquaintances/co-worker than friends. (God when you put it like that, his life is depressing.)
Meanwhile Kaito isn’t as bad. He got a secret identity, but most importantly he got support (that Rei doesn’t really have). His mom and Jii are both aware and supportive of his activity as KID. Aoko doesn’t know, but she’s still a good friend to Kaito no matter how much she hates KID. Hakuba and Akako are complicated subject in the fact they got more of an “I’m the only one who can arrest/kill/subjugate KID” which, weirdos, just admit you’re friends already.
So I guess what’s interesting is that Rei is what Kaito could become if he were to lose all his support.
Back on track: I feel like it would take a lot on both of their side for them to get close to each other.
It’s not impossible, per se, especially if either witness the other in a position of weakness,
I think, it could start more with Kaito/KID helping Rei out. Kaito, as a teenager, doesn’t really have any reasons to hang out with Rei (except maybe visiting Café Poirot, but it would still be more of a client/employee relation, so not really friends). The only reason KID would have to hang out with Rei would be work-related reasons, like Rei being tasked to arrest KID (and/or kill KID on BO order) which, doesn’t really fit with the kind of work he’s usually doing for the BO/PSB (I guess you can frame it as investigative work). And then he would need a really good reason to not do what he’s actually tasked for (which goes back to him not hesitating to kill if it protect his cover).
Maybe if KID becomes some informant for Rei. And even then that’s pushing it because Kaito wouldn’t stay close to someone who isn’t afraid to murder him.
Unless you go the “Rei get dragged to a KID Heist, find it fun and keeps coming back” road in the same way Conan did. Which could evolve in “oh no I’ve accidentally gotten attached to this teenager what should I do” route. Followed by “google how to tell feral teenager he can trust me” crisis. And on the way to help KID, he somehow helps himself.
Sorry I feel like I’ve gone on a lot of tangents and hasn’t really answered the question in the end.
Short version: Could be fun but is also a lot of work for them to actually get there (especially considering canon circumstances)

Fandom’s 5 Manga That I Think Deserve an Anime Adaptation
Winner of the last poll was with, so here’s what we’re covering today.
These are five manga series that I feel deserve an anime adaptation. Series that for one reason or another haven’t gotten one, but would absolutely be great on the screen with the right team attached. All of them I’ve read and find absolutely enjoyable, and I think they deserve a spot in the limelight.
Note: Some of the series listed do cover heavy topics, so please be sure to check for warnings before checking them out.
And with that, let’s get started!
#1) My Hero Academia: Vigilantes
Tumblr media
Koichi is a young man in university who always wanted to be a hero, but things didn’t work out quite like he’d hope. After running into a brass-knuckle weilding old man called Knuckleduster, and an aspiring street pop-idol known as Pop Step, Koichi finds himself roped into the world of Vigilantes; Heroes who operate outside of the proper legal channels and, by current societies standards, are technically criminals themselves.
While I know this will probably get some of its scenes animated given its relevance to the main manga’s current plot, this prequel story has more than enough to stand on its own as an anime spin-off. Old and new faves interact in amazing ways, and I absolutely suggest you give it a shot.
#2) Kitchen Princess
Tumblr media
Najika Kazami is a young orphan girl with a strong sense of taste who, after much hard work, manages to get into the prestigious Seika Academy with one goal in mind; to find her “Flan Prince”, a boy who saved her from drowning and cheered her up after her parents died, giving her the dessert that sparked the nickname for her unnamed hero. Before they parted, she promised him she’d someday make him the best dessert in the world when they finally met again.
This one is a lot darker than the cover may initially let on and one I definitely suggest you look into the content warnings for before opening up the first volume. But the story is mostly solid and in the end ends on a sweet note, even after many bitter flavors.
And if you don’t want to read it, I recommend getting the books anyway, because they include recipes for the dishes featured in every volume.
#3) +Anima
Tumblr media
In this world, there are those known as +Anima. People who have the ability to change their bodies and use the abilities of the animal they get their traits from. In this story we follow four young protagonists; the ever optimistic Cooro the Crow, the stern and serious Husky the Fish, the kind and quiet Senri the Bear, and the sweet young Nana the Bat, as they travel through the countries in an attempt to find a place where they belong.
This was one of the first manga I ever read and by god is it an amazing 10 volume ride. The story is dark yet hopeful, the art is beautiful, and the characters are by far one of the best casts I’ve seen in a manga.
#4) Yotsuba &!
Tumblr media
Yotsuba Koiwai is a young girl who just moved into town with her father. As she explores the world around her, she gets into adventures with her father Yousuke, his best friend Jumbo, and their neighbors the Ayase Family, along with many other characters who come and go through the story.
A simple slice of life story from the creator of Azumanga Daioh, filled with comedy, fun memes in the making, and all around a genuinely good, light hearted story. And while I know the writer said Yotsuba isn’t really suited to an anime format, I truly believe it would be perfect for an anime adaptation with the right team behind it.
#5) My Son is Probably Gay
Tumblr media
Hiroki is gay. He doesn’t want his parents to know. But his mom has already pretty much figured it out. She tries her best to support him regardless, and does her best to encourage his romantic pursuits and personal hobbies, without bringing it up and waiting until he’s ready to tell her himself.
This manga is just...so goddamn sweet. You can tell this mom really cares about her son and really wants him to be happy. And Hiroki is a sweetie and you really want to see him find happiness. This manga would make a perfect mini series of shorts.
And those are 5 manga I think should get an anime adaptation. What manga do you enjoy that you’d like to see animated? Are there any series you think I should check out? Let me know!
I hope you all have a wonderful day!

May 23rd - "The Gauntlet Part 2" - As Dr. Light and Suna turn the Robot Masters against each other, Mega Man defeats and unmasks his arch nemeses, Lord Obsidian...
I decided to snip out that last part. I don’t watch this particular show so I don’t know if it’s important, but it sounds like the description outright spoils his identity.

Gensokyo Festival Day 9 : PoFV
Yuuka tapped her parasol against the entryway to shake off any dust before letting it open up.  She gave her gatekeeper a nod.  "I'll be out until fall, Elly."
Elly nodded but seemed a little confused.  "It's a little early for sunflowers isn't it?  Or has another flower caught your eye?"
"The Lily of the Valley should be flowering now," Yuuka said, before hopping into the air.  Elly probably didn't realize the significance, but the gatekeeper wouldn't ask.  Because Yuuka wouldn't tell.
The boundary to Gensoukyo was easy to cross.  Yuuka was still a youkai after all, even though her nature had shifted greatly since her early years.  Of course she could have forced the matter magically, but that would be crude.  Magic was more for fun little games.  Things like danmaku.
As always she arrived near the Sanzu river.  Boundaries attracted boundaries to some degree.  And that area was less likely to get that gap youkai or the shrine maiden complaining.  Not that a fight with them wouldn't be fun.  But she had more important things to do before then.
It was spring and the flowers were blooming.  So Yuuka took her time.  Roses and chrysanthemum were always pleasant to hover over.  But after a day of fiddling about she headed towards her goal.  The field covered in lily of the valley.
To her surprise there was a group there today.  The umbrella she'd met before, Medicine of course, and an older looking red haired youkai.  A powerful force, and possibly a tsukumogami if she was playing with those children.  Something to look into later.
She flew down to her intended target.  "Good morning, Medicine.  How are you?"
As always the umbrella backed off, but Medicine stepped forward.  "Ah!  You again?  I'll have you know Su-san is very strong right now!  You can't bully me or my friends today!"
The red haired woman moved to Medicine's side.  "This youkai trouble Medicine?"
"She's a big showoff who scares people," Medicine said.
Yuuka chuckled, then bowed.  "Yuuka Kazami.  Youkai of flowers."
"Oh, you.  Yeah Medi and Alice have told me about you."  The woman gave a bow in return but didn't lower her eyes.  "Raiko Horikawa, drum tsukumogami."
"Oh Alice told you about me?"  Yuuka chuckled.  "She must trust you.  I'm happy to see Medicine has made some more reliable friends."
Medicine stomped her foot, the tiny doll next to her shadowboxing.  "Stop acting all high and mighty!  I know why you're here."
"I suppose you would," Yuuka replied folding her umbrella.
Raiko snapped her fingers and electricity sparked.  "What you looking for a fight today?"
"Yes, but not with you," Yuuka said as she folded her parasol.  She smiled at Medicine.  "So little doll, how much have you grown?  Show me your skill, here at the height of your power."
"Uuugh!  This time Su-san and I will poison you until you can't breathe!"
Ten spell cards and half and hour later Yuuka was sipping tea in victory.  Medicine was having her wounds treated by Kogasa.  Nothing serious of course, but the umbrella was a worrywart, and Medicine liked being looked after.
"You took it easy on her," Raiko said as she lounged in the chair next to Yuuka.  A bold move from a youkai barely two years old, but Yuuka appreciated boldness.
"I take it easy on most people," Yuuka replied.  "Fighting with my full strength would be pure barbarism."  She nibbled on a cookie.  "Besides, if I just smashed her with my full power I wouldn't get to see how much she'd improved.  It will be over fourty years before she gets supercharged by the flowers of the 60 year cycle after all."
Raiko raised an eyebrow.  "This is her underpowered state?  Well isn't that interesting.  I'll have to see what she's like when she's stronger."  The drum youkai grabbed a couple of cookies for herself.  "Still this can't be the only young youkai you've met.  Why the interest?  The flower motif?"
"Hardly."  Yuuka checked to make sure Medicine was still out of earshot.  "I am the youkai of flowers.  Everything that blooms is under my purvey."  She smiled slightly.  "And that young youkai is constantly blooming with all her might."
"Oho, so that's it."  Raiko leaned forward.  "Who would have expected the great Yuuka Kazami to have older sister tendencies."
Yuuka was glad she'd put down the tea cup.  She took a moment to compose herself before giving the drum youkai a haughty look.  "Older sister?  I would have thought you'd call it mothering.  Or are you trying to hit on me?"
Raiko casually slipped off her tie.  "You tease a little too much to be a mom.  But I am trying to hit on you."
This was turning out to be even more interesting than she had imagined.  Still she was uncertain.  "So going to try to wow me with something simple like dinner at the village or tickets to the Prismriver concert?"
"I'm playing at the next Prismriver concert," Raiko said with a wink.  "But no, I was thinking a danmaku duel and drinks after."
Yuuka looked over the drum youkai, then grinned.  "It's a date."

often calls his respective love interest "(insert name here), my friend", to their face during conversations
his idea of a date is letting his love interest come along as he jogs
blows up a high-facility school building to teach his love interest a lesson about being yourself
attempts to solve sexual-frustration related problems by asking his semi-oblivious love interest "you touched my dick last night, didn't you?", casually, at the breakfast table
when playfully asked to "catch me if you can! <3" he tackles his date to the ground, military-style. twice
comments on how sunscreen looks like semen as he's preparing to put sunscreen on his date's back. twice
lets an assassin/spy go because she has big boobs
trains his love interest in accordance with military shooting practices while she's playing a festival game to earn a plushie
buries his love interest alive to teach her a lesson about the will to live/the worth of life
hands his pretend-date rocks he picked up off the ground for the whole duration of the trip to the beach
claims it's normal for a man to have a stove or two
can't even properly suck up to his superiors as he fails to contain his intense sarcasm

So after going through some of the Kamen Rider places I go to, a lot of people seem to be annoyed that Ryuga’s girlfriend died after appearing in one episode and being “sexist” because it’s gonna be one of his motivations to be a Kamen Rider (let’s face it there’s no way they’re not going to) or tired ‘cuz Hiiro’s girlfriend died too (which is understandable). I’m not bothered too much by it, though, ‘cuz honestly dead people provide a lot of the motivations for Kamen Riders. From most recent to oldest (sorry if I miss some, ‘cuz I haven’t watched ALL of the Kamen Rider seasons): - Kamen Rider Ex-Aid: Hiiro’s girlfriend, Kiriya’s friend, Kuroto's mom - Kamen Rider Wizard: Haruto's parents, Fueki’s daughter Koyomi (whose death was responsible for the whole plot) - Kamen Rider Fourze: Gentaro's parents - Kamen Rider OOO: The little girl Eiji befriended - Kamen Rider Double: Terui's family, Shotaro's mentor Sokichi Narumi, the Quarks for Katsumi - Kamen Rider Kiva: Wataru's dad (yea, we get to know Otoya through the 1986 half, but he's dead in the 2008 half, so he counts) - Kamen Rider Blade: Kenzaki's family, Tachibana's girlfriend, Amane's father for Hajime, - Kamen Rider Ryuki: Miyuki Tezuka's friend Yuichi Saito - Kamen Rider Agito: Shouichi Tsugami's sister (even though he's suffering amnesia) - Kamen Rider Kuuga: Godai's father - And a HUGE majority of the Showa Riders. In fact, the Kamen Rider V3 theme pretty much is Shiro Kazami’s promise to his family that he will avenge them and destroy Destron. So it's a little baffling whenever I see complaints about "dead girlfriends" when dead people in general have been motivations for a lot of them to begin with. It’s not a new thing. At all.

Bookshelf Briefs 11/28/17
It’s a cornucopia of briefs!
Ace of the Diamond, Vol. 6 | By Yuji Terjima | Kodansha Comics (digital only) – Training camp continues, and the coach has arranged for some practice games right afterwards, the better to gauge how well the first years play when exhausted. For Furuya, the answer is initially “not well,” but he never loses his determination, and once he swallows his pride and asks Miyuki for advice, finally internalizes the truth that, at Seido, he’s got teammates who are going to back him up, even if the batter does manage to get a hit. Eijun’s fun and everything, but Furuya is not your typical shounen protagonist, and I’m pleased that he’s getting his share of attention. I also liked that the boys hang out some with varsity teammates we’ve barely glimpsed, and we learn how awesome the captain is. I am already relishing the thought of future marathon rereads of this series. It’s a keeper for sure. – Michelle Smith
Cells at Work!, Vol. 5 | By Akane Shimizu | Kodansha Comics – Once again, Red Blood Cell is absent from this volume except a brief cameo. This allows us to focus our attention on the ‘normal cell’ from prior volumes, who still has a tendency to do dumb things on impulse. Fortunately, the cute adorable bacteria he’s harboring in his room are the GOOD kind of bacteria. Unfortunately, his attempt to get them to where they can do good is thwarted by a host of crises from which White Blood Cell and company must rescue him, most notably the return of Cancer Cell, who brings back the ethical ambiguity to the series as he asks essentially “are the needs of the many less important than the needs of the one?” The one being the body. This was a lot of fun. – Sean Gaffney
Delicious in Dungeon, Vol. 3 | By Ryoko Kui| Yen Press – The cast expands a bit in this third volume. We see one of our team’s old comrades, who left them due to actually wanting to get paid, and the complicated relationship she has with them, particularly Marcille, and it’s made clear she’s not a bad guy—everyone has their own needs and drives. As for Marcille, we also get a flashback to her school days, which shows how she met Laios’ sister (still being digested by a dragon, if you recall), which is rather cute. And of course more ridiculously gross yet amusing monster recipes. And plenty of humor, as it turns out tentacles can be peeled sort of like bananas. Still good, though I’d like to get the sister rescued or declare her dead. – Sean Gaffney
The Full-Time Wife Escapist, Vol. 6 | By Tsunami Umino | Kodansha Comics (digital only) – It was inevitable that Mikuri and Hiramasa would discover that they are in love with each other, but I am still kind of surprised that it actually happened. It’s lovely to see him grinning like a doofus at the office after an evening of fooling around, but I appreciate that the transition into a real marriage isn’t exactly going to be smooth. Mikuri is worried, for example, that she’ll be expected to do the same amount of work for free, while Hiramasa worries about his waning sex drive. Somehow I doubt we’ll ever see the latter issue addressed Everyone’s Getting Married! I also really enjoyed the scenes where Mikuri’s aunt and Kazami get to know each other better—I wholeheartedly approve of them hooking up! – Michelle Smith
Haikyu!!, Vol. 17 | By Haruichi Furudate | Viz Media – And so our heroes pull it off, and get to advance, while Aoba Johsai has to suffer an ignominious defeat. This is done in the best possible shonen way, with lots of noble tears and resolve to get even stronger. The cliches don’t FEEL like cliches—the author is adept at making this feel fresh even when you know where every plot beat is going to be. And so it’s on to the finals, and I suspect this game may drag on a while, as it’s a best 3-sets-of-5 game. Their opponent is Shiratorizawa, who I’m sure we’ll find out more about as we move on, but who clearly have one player who’s REALLY good, and the volume ends with our heroes down by quite a bit. I think they’ll come back, though. Just a hunch. – Sean Gaffney
Hana & Hina After School, Vol. 3 | By Milk Morinaga | Seven Seas – This turns out to be the final volume, and honestly you get the sense it was cut a bit short—the last half feels rushed. Of course, considering all we were getting before that was a slow-burning pile of angst, it might be best that it got the push. Morinaga Milk has always been better at fluffy than angsty, so it comes as something of a relief when our two heroines finally get over the whole “is it just me? Did she mean it when she said she’s not that way?” drama and get together (in all respects—as with previous MM titles, there’s a brief, not-that-explicit sex scene here). In the end, this was a cute read, but I’ve seen better yuri from this author. – Sean Gaffney
Horimiya, Vol. 9 | By Hero and Daisuke Hagiwara | Yen Press – Horimiya has always tried to be at least slightly more realistic than a lot of romance manga, and thus watching Yuki’s ongoing angst regarding her lies and deceit and how it’s impacting other people is particularly painful. I’m not really all that sure I want her to win here, even though the alternative will also suck. On the bright side, Hori and Morimiya are doing better than ever, and as Hori is forced to think about her future—something which she seemed to have given not a single thought to—but she realizes here that no matter what she does, she wants to be with Miyamura. This leads to a sort of adorable reverse proposal, which fits the general characterization. Still good, but I hope it’s wrapping up soon. – Sean Gaffney
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, Vol. 5 | By Hirohiko Araki | Viz Media And so, finally, JoJo’s has run up against my ability to get 500+ words out of each volume. Yes, this is the first volume to get a Brief rather than a full review, and I put the blame entirely on the rambling Road To Cairo plot that Araki has chosen to use this time around. Individual moments are as striking as ever—I felt the killer baby was more interesting as a killer within dreams than in the real world, and the surprise non-death of a character feels a bit cheap. But JoJo’s still has its bizarre visuals and grotesque violence, and as long as it keeps that up it should stay interesting, even if Jotaru continues to be the dullest Jo we’ve had to date. – Sean Gaffney
Kiss & White Lily for My Dearest Girl, Vol. 4 | By Canno | Yen Press – Most sports manga fail to show the heroes moving on to a professional career, with a few exceptions like Captain Tsubasa. In reality, a lot of sports careers end just the way we see Mizuki’s end here—she comes close to the Nationals, but doesn’t make it, and realizes that this is it, she has to stop doing track and decide on an actual career. There’s also her relationship with Moe, which may actually be hindering her for a spell—it’s gotten to the point where she forgets running was fun—but eventually proves stronger than both thought, and we get a proposal (of sorts) and a kiss. This is a bit stronger than Hana & Hina, even if it’s just as fluffy, and I’m pleased to see it continue. – Sean Gaffney
Log Horizon: The West Wind Brigade, Vol. 7 | By Koyuki and Mamare Touno | Yen Press – The comedy is kept to a minimum here, as we get the more dramatic parts of the third and fourth novel, intermixed with how it’s affecting the West Wind Brigade. Kawara’s on the cover, and we get a bit more insight into her character—basically, she’s an instinctual fighter but a bit of an idiot who got into the game because she wanted to be a shonen hero, and the West Wind Brigade was the only one that would take her in. It does also show off her strengths as well, though. That said, easily the most interesting part is the ending, where we get a surprise appearance by a seemingly insane Nureha, who’s met by a battle-crazy Soujiro. I want to see how this battle turns out. – Sean Gaffney
My Hero Academia, Vol. 10 | By Kohei Horikoshi | Viz Media – I appreciate that Horikoshi is willing to let Bakugo be a completely unlikable jerk, driven by rage and jealousy and every single negative emotion, and yet still show that he realizes the difference between good and evil—that he’s decided that he wants to be a HERO rather than a villain, even if that means going against what comes more naturally. It’s a terrific scene that really made me like him. On the flip side, the disguises used to infiltrate Evil HQ are hilarious, particularly Deku and Momo. The humor is needed, as this is something of a grim arc, especially with the arrival of a Bigger Bad towards the end. This volume shows off everything that has made this the hot new Jump title. – Sean Gaffney
Nisekoi: False Love, Vol. 24 | By Naoshi Komi | Viz Media – Even though it’s obvious Onodera’s going to lose, give credit to the author for not making it easy. She and Raku have really developed a close relationship, and even if it’s not romantic I hope they can stay friends. More to the point, the fact that Onodera is willing to help Raku track down Chitoge by FLYING TO AMERICA with him (because Chitoge has, like many tsundere heroines in denial, literally run halfway across the Earth to escape her love issues) shows off her truly ridiculous kindness. There’s the last popularity poll in this book, and Chitoge and Onodera are separated by barely 100 votes. That’s impressive for a harem title. In any case, it wraps up next time, so keep reading. – Sean Gaffney
One Piece, Vol. 84 | By Eiichiro Oda | VIZ Media – It’s been a while since we had a volume that focused on further sad backstory for one of the Straw Hat crew, but that’s what we get here, with many hard-to-read scenes about Sanji’s abuse at the hands of his family, intercut with a silly fight in which Luffy defeats a bunch of cracker soldiers by eating them. Because Big Mom is threatening to kill Chef Zeff if he doesn’t comply, Sanji is forced to both insult and attack Luffy in an attempt to get him to abort the rescue, but of course this doesn’t work. In addition to this riveting drama, there’s also the question of whether Pudding (Sanji’s seemingly sympathetic bride-to-be) can actually be trusted, more information about the ponegliffs (yay!), and a glimpse at the unintended consequences of toppling Doflamingo. Plus, Brook actually gets something important to do! This series is still excellent. – Michelle Smith
