The return of some old faces

I finally got around to fleshing them out, so here's some more info on them under the cut:

They're all students at New Salem University and share a dorm room together. Demonique and Luci have been longtime friends, attending elementary and middle school in Hell before transferring to Monster High together, while Fangel is newer to the friend group, but feels as though she's always belonged with these ghouls.

Fangel attended Belfry Prep her whole un-life until she was able to escape that stuffy and intolerant environment once she graduated and started college. She never agreed with traditional vampire values, and always kept friends outside of school that were different monster types, and she's absolutely thriving in campus life.

Demonique may or may not have feelings for her vampire friend, but knows that she's already in a happy and committed relationship, and so she keeps her feelings hidden. Aside from that she's super chill and often the voice of reason. She's also incredibly creative, and is apart of all kinda of clubs on campus.

As Lucifer's eldest child, Luci is set to become the new ruler of Hell once her father retires. She's actually pretty hyped about it, and figures a business degree will help her become an effective ruler. She's the campus's resident party girl, and given her popularity, she's known for throwing the biggest college parties around. Given her status, she's able to get away with more than the average student, but she tries not to abuse this power too much.

just gonna go ahead and say this in advance—

if Riz does indeed come out in junior year, and he says, “I’m ace” or “I’m asexual” when referring specifically to his lack of romantic attraction, aromantic people are allowed to be upset about it.

#because yes of course some people irl say ace to mean both bc that’s how they personally identify #but in fictional media the distinction is necessary. especially with how few canonically aromantic characters even exist in ANY mainstream/#popular media.#I assure you I’m not invalidating anyone who is ace and they mean that to include lack of romantic attraction.#But to look at this from a MEDIA PERSPECTIVE its irresponsible to do this w/out clarification that they also know the word aromantic exists #because otherwise that’s just a conflation of asexual and aromantic without any nuance #and an erasure of aromantic people who are not asexual.#Plus—name a single fucking time a character in mainstream/popular media has said the word aromantic.#Because I can name several instances where they say asexual. But I can’t think of ONE where they say aro or aromantic.#(Maybe that Isaac kid does in season 2 of Heartstopper? But I haven’t seen it so I’m not 100% sure.)#anyways.#the way this fucking fandom—and ANY fandom with a canon aro character—discusses the aromantic spectrum #is blatantly just to remove their own personal guilt for shipping that character with other characters and erasing their orientation.#because yes aromanticism IS a spectrum!! But when people talk about fabriz and say ‘he can still be ace!’ (Which is aro erasure) or #‘he can still be aro!’ They never SHOW riz still being aro or having any kind of complex relationship with romance.#I’m angry and I’m allowed to be.#I get that a ship you liked may be hard to let go of or something #But I’d be much less mad if all the fabriz fans said ‘yeah I know Riz is aro in canon and he and Fabian would never get together.#I just like to imagine it sometimes in fiction/fanon!’ Then that would be a WHOLE different conversation #Because then they’d at least be acknowledging that riz doesn’t feel romance in canon. #Saint Juniper’s Folly #aroaessidhe 2023 reads #this is….okay #writing is quite young - it feels like middle grade. would be fine bc i like middle grade but it's a bit at odds with the fact that #they’re 18 and talking about college soon and driving round in cars a lot #There’s very little ghosty or spookiness - it’s more just about the characters and their developing relationships #I felt like there were quite a few pivotal scenes missing? Like it skips from the kid being back in this town for the first time #to suddenly he’s stuck in this house in the woods. We don’t see him go out there; realise he’s stuck; or anything.#(unless libby skipped a chapter in my audiobook again?)#It also felt like it skipped any of them like testing the supernatural stuff? They go straight to researching the house’s history.#Once the end is revealed it makes sense I guess - but it’s like the because the author forgot to make the characters (who Don’t know)#do the first logical things you might do in a situation like that. idk.#the boys hating each other at the start felt manufactured for some hate to love thing instead of for any reason.....I didn't buy it #Also my pet peeve of: having a character call her dad by his first name! …….but it's an indication of their bad relationship. okay then.#(I know that is also a real experience but MAN sometimes people just do that it's not always a sign of emotional neglect!!!!)#Anyway - I didn’t hate it by any means; there’s just a few little things that didn't work for me

#like all the other party members have acquaintances (and sometimes family) that you meet #more often than not in the main plot; sometimes in a sidequest #heck even alphen who woke up from his Big Nap not too long ago has ppl in mosgul who have spent the past year with him #and like im sure if you think of any other character from the franchise #they have acquaintances that the party meets #but for shionne the only ppl we meet who know her from before are balseph and some of his goons maybe #THIS IS SO WEIRD #and like she implies(?) that she used to have a family but i guess i cant complain that theyre out of the picture #and you could argue “well thats the point. shes always been alone so naturally youre not gonna meet her buddies she doesnt have any”#i would argue that they stiĺ could have made a subquest where you meet a couple doctors/researchers who used to “care for” her #or a rando on lenegis who tells you how he once bumped into shionne as a kid and the memory forever remains with him bc it was #the worst pain hed felt in his life and omg is that her with you right now stay back stay back aaà aaaaa aaa #Like they dont even let you meet her doll #she refers to it as her only friend gdi #regardless of whether thats also alphens doll. can we see it?#can we come in contact with one thing that cements shionne's presence in this universe prior to the events of the game?#no????#all that coupled with the fact that the logistics of her arrival on dahna are such a headscratcher that fans had to ask tomizawa about it #and he refused to answer lmao #IM LOSING MY MIND GIVE SUBSTANCE TO THIS GIRL'S BACKSTORY BLEASE #arise curse #(not to mention that balseph and shionne' relationship is strictly Tom&Jerry-esque.#and it's impossible to parse for how long exactly he's know (of?) her)#(at least the few words they exchange pre-battle are still somewhat engaging and inform us on like. the Renan worldview. cool.)#shionne posting
