life update i guess. i feel like i got through the boy ep mania early with the close my eyes release (at least i'm hoping with the rest of it i can just. grieve and have hope all at once. i know the vibe of what's coming and i really need that in my life).

anyway, gonna try share more of the personal 'so this is what it meant to me' rather than 'this is what it means imo' sometimes, take the spotlight away from our beloved band members and their personal lives and into the listener experience--because i always have a hunch we have more in common than not as a fandom. i listen to a lot of music but i'm here blogging on tumblr about these guys because nothing unravels what's in my head like a 5sos song. which is why i love playing around with them and looking at different angles musically and lyrically!

right now, my bird is unwell and i'm literally so anxious all the time because of his health. and i know i need to slow down and also grieve lost futures etc (is it true if you're feeling anxiety it's a sign you need to grieve? or is that a myth idk) in order to best be there for him, and try show up well at my job etc too if only just so i can afford the vet bills. realising how much it's impacting me and life's not always like this and it won't be forever, but it's actually the most perfect time to be getting a new luke album (and ttpd, but we don't talk about her bc Boycott Things. i'm also rediscovering mistaken identity by delta goodrem which i do every 10yrs or so).

i'm also processing the whole religious trauma/ministry burnout thing. i know it's not a common thing to experience in my early 20s but i was a volunteer youth pastor for 3 years, in which i cared for a lot of people, saw a lot of pain, and wasn't really able to do everything and create the healing, freeing kind of connections I wanted, slowly realising not everyone goes to faith communities for these things and some are perfectly happy with the status quo. 5sos5 was the album that got me through the process of leaving that behind, and lately i've been thinking about making a little art moodboard comic thing with a slide for every song and what it means to me, bible verses related to that experience etc, and i hope i manage to prioritise doing that i think it'd be really good for me and when it's done i'll share it with you guys. make it pretty and visual and a story i can tell creatively to take back a little autonomy.

and then i'm also trying to walk my (asian, i'm half asian, and rn it's that side of the family that needs it most) through the process of discovering and accommodating neurodivergence. i'm lucky to be the one who has the resources to figure it out and so early in my life too, but it's hard to communicate between cultures and i'm so, so tired. there's so many feelings to navigate, everyone else's as well as my own. wfttwtaf has been really good for just helping process my feelings around that, but also actions, prompting me to imagine things from the kind of perspectives i need to, i don't know why it does this, but it does. the southeast asian inspo is minimal, but it's there enough for me to apply it to my life. and we're all trying to fight redefine the bloodline rn too.

i'm finding a lot of hope and optimism in finding myself as a musician through my orchestral arrangement of calm. inspired to keep chipping away at studying urban design through the city and place mentions of all their albums (as well as just the premise of somewhere new ep. i'm not really sure why). to figure out what it looks like to choose myself with superbloom. soothe my inner teen with sgfg, but process what was going on in leaving high school all those years ago (shut my eyes at 17, okay? i'm only just about to turn 23) with youngblood and trying to reclaim what's left of my youth inspired by the songs off self titled.

so i guess that's how it all relates to me. why i'm on here. and i know any projects i try to do are going to be slow rn bc i just have so much on, i'm trying to recover from burnout (board up my windows, tryna revive) and i'm so physically and mentally drained rn but this won't be forever. there's gonna be a nice, new equilibrium to come out of this and i hope soon. so thank you for being around while i gush about all these songs during this time!

Time for the last episode. How are they going to fit four past speedsters into the Eddie-gone-evil show in a satisfactory manner? I... have no idea, but let's find out.

I've missed the episode starting voiceover + that specific music. Nostalgia points right there, with Barry asking "i need you to believe in the impossible" :D

So I like the implication that the N!SF took Zolomon from the Black Flash and restored him to being human again. Godspeed showing up and immediately starts posturing. And Zolomon starts posturing. Like evil speedster peacocks. Flirting a little too. Oh, there's Eobard. Coming downstairs because they're in Joe's house? For some reason?

I dunno, I mean, I assume Eobard was going through Barry's childhood room and making fun of his science fair projects. This place seems built from Eobard's hatred of Barry.

Godspeed - Any last words? Eobard - *actual line* Never wear white after labor day.

I also appreciate Eobard calling out Zolomon on copying his playbook and then calling him a V9 junkie. I mean, my Eobard survives because of Flashback series is gonna have Eo giving Zolomon shit about that too. (Not that Eobard has a leg to stand on given what the N!SF has been doing to him, but when has Eobard cared about being a hypocrite???)

Iris is still having a baby. I don't think it usually takes this many episodes for one baby to be born.

HEY! THE BLUE FLOWERS. They're a bouquet that Eddie has brought for Iris. While she's in labor. So he can try to... steal her from Barry?

So after all the blue motif up until now and Eddie's lightning is still red. Disappointed.

Always do enjoy a good speedster battle. And hey! Nora again :D She's being born and she's showing up for the good fight. Double duty, that one.

there's something a bit different about Zolomon's suit here - it's just... less creepy than S2? maybe they were doing something different with it in that season, but it's just slightly off looking now

I like how Nora beats Savitar. He almost kills her the way he intended to kill Iris, but because she's a speedster she can just... vibrate so that the sharpy pointy thing phases through her. And then she just stabs Savitar. Are we finally, finally allowed to kill the bad guys on this show???

Eobard showing up to annoy Chester. Eobard hates him just for being Team Flash. Very Emperor torturing Luke vibes. And Allegra one-hit-KOs him anyway. Honestly, Eobard just seemed annoyed, not personal, about dealing with Chester. I do think it would have worked a lot better if it had been Eobard vs Cisco again.

So... how does Hunter know that Khione is a goddess? Or even not Caitlin. Would have definitely preferred he mistook her for Caitlin and she got to correct him.

Hunter - I am the darkness. *shows off* Khione - *glances at Blaine, rolls her eyes*

Khione basically one hit KOs Zoom with his own lightning and Mark just stands there thinking he looks pretty.

Oh, Eobard isn't out yet, he's gonna do some more villain ranting.

I think maybe Eobard should have just run off to a motel somewhere with Savitar. That would have been hilarious. And less embarrassing for him than Allegra taking him out a second time in one fight. He, uh, probably should not have brought up Nash.

So I assume that while Allegra and Chester are kissing, Eobard slinks away to safety and calls it a strategic retreat.

Jay shows up and... steals Eddie's speed? A trick he picked up from his E90 doppleganger? (I really do need to finish watching that show...) Powers as the plot demands, I guess.

Oh, no slinking away for Eobard, he's been absorbed. By Eddie stealing the speed from all the other bad guys.

Barry - Let Eddie die? No. In fact, more importantly, fuck no.

Khione - So it sounds like a cycle of violence. You gotta break out of it, but my advice on how to do so is kinda crappy and nonspecific. Sorry. Barry - I am so tired of watching the people I love suffer and die. Khione - Coexistence! RaRaRa. Barry - *sigh*

Barry gets back to the hospital just in time for Nora to be born. :D

So Chester still has some cosmic energy and maybe powers. And that's only coming out now??? *sigh*

Timeless Wells - Howdy. So, time to ascend to a higher plane. Khione - I gotta say my goodbyes first. Parting is such sweet sorrow.

Iris looks very fresh and not-sweaty for having just pushed out a baby. I remember what my sister looked like post giving birth and she wasn't quite that make-up and hair done looking.

I do still think Nora should have been a twin.

So, uh, I guess we don't get to see Timeless Wells with wany of the rest of Team Flash? That sucks.

Khione makes her goodbyes, ascends to a higher plane (in a very four elements sort of way that sadly does not result in a glowing squid like when Daniel ascended on SG-1), and she leaves a Caitlin behind... Barry sounds like he's about to cry when he hugs her. Blaine is hugged last. Almost thought she'd skip him.

Baby party! Is Nora attending her own party twice over? Yes. That dork. David Singh is there in the background, I think. Ohhh, Timeless Wells is there, okay. that's better.

Nora - oh if you think this was crazy, wait for Bart to be born. Barry & Iris - O_O

Joe proposes to Cecile which... I dunno if the baby party was the time to do it, but the way he does it is sweet. It is David! He's been hanging on to the ring for Joe. And Cecile makes him put a pillow under his bad knee before kneeling.

Really wish Cisco was here. He and Kamilla should be.

Barry choosing new speedsters! Avery Ho, Max Mercury, and Jess Chambers. (That last one makes me miss Jesse Wells though.) It's probably not gonna go anywhere since the show is done and the arrow-verse seems unlikely to get a new show (or shows) at this point. But I like the message that power like the speed force is meant to be shared and that as this chapter of Barry's story closes the Flash family is continuing to grow ever larger.

I'd love to know what Eddie's gonna do with the negative speed force in order to 'keep the balance with the regular speed force. But I guess we don't get even a hint. Personally, I say Barry and Iris date him, so we have the avatars of the two speed forces sharing the same lightning rod. That is how Westhallen can still win.

Nora gets to be Eddie's daughter after all, that way. And maybe she goes through a blonde faze that makes Eddie cringe in memory of what happened in the previous episode.

So, overall... it was not a bad end to the show. Eddie deserved better, but I knew that going in. Cobalt Blue was in name only, was pretty sure of that going in also. That first episode was a high point that the other episodes couldn't match and I can't say the final villains of previous seasons being made mini-bosses for Team Flash to take out was in any way satisfying, but it was kinda fun to see Zolomon one last time. Savitar didn't even take his helmet off but I guess they didn't want to try to do the facial scars again (or let Eddie realize he was teaming up with an evil version of the guy he was super resentful of). Godspeed i just never managed to care about to begin with (they kinda squandered his plot tbh). And Eobard - usually as EoWells - shows up practically once a season. So I never have time to miss him. And we did see the Matt!Eobard version in the first Ep.

Eddie being jealous of Barry worked, but wanting to force Iris to be in love with him or being power hungry didn't. So when it fell apart real fast, that only worked if I assumed it was just Eddie's real personality re-asserting itself because the N!SF's influence had been precarious to begin with. So basically the Cobalt Blue plot was kinda weak.

It held up better than Armageddon though. And had fewer blatantly obvious plot holes than Armageddon or Red Death. (We still. don't know. where batwoman was until she popped up to help kick Red Death's ass. this bothers me.)

I have things to say about Khione's arc, but that'll be a separate post. Tomorrow. After I've slept. It's almost 1:00am. So I guess I technically mean later today, but whatever. it is still 'Friday' until I go to sleep and wake up on Saturday if I say so. (my spelling is getting so bad, I've deleted and re-written and then re-deleted and re-written so many words now)

I'm sad the show is over, but at the same time really glad it's done. I know some of the fandom will move on, but I'll be sticking around for a long while and I know I won't be the only one. This show has been a wild ride and to those of us who will remain... the ending of a chapter does not mean the ending of the story. We will simply have to forge the next pages ourselves.

Any ships you dislike? It can be from any season, I just wanna get to know what ships you don't like for some reason. +, any ships from any season you wouldn't be comfy model swapping?

This feels like a bit of a minefield, so forgive me for prefacing this by saying whether I like your ship or not - it doesn’t mean I don’t like you or think you can’t ship it. 

Different strokes for different folks, and while I might not understand why someone ships something, I just assume they have a reason. Like, maybe there’s an amazing AU out there that I just don’t know about that shows the characters in a different light where it makes perfect sense. I dunno, maybe there is also just a dynamic that’s not my cup of tea but is for someone else. 

And if you happen to disagree with any of these, cool! Come tell me what ships you like and why, I like to be informed and hear what you’re enthusiastic about even if our opinions are different.

Now... I guess I’ll start with TFS since that’s the most shippy season and move backwards. Also putting it behind a “read more” because this sort of exploded in length. My bad.

TFS:

The first big one that comes to mind is that I’m not really a fan of Clemerva. It’s one of those ships that I really don’t understand the appeal of. Especially if we’re talking about something that isn’t based in an AU where Minnie’s traumatic experiences with the Delta didn’t happen. There just isn’t any positive interaction between Clem and Minnie in canon and they are constantly seen as opposing and hostile forces, so I don’t really know where the kick-off point for this ship comes from. If there are Clemerva shippers out there who can explain this, I would love to hear it.

Also don’t really like Lousim. I know that’s a popular one, but I don’t get it. I think I know why in this case, and it basically comes down to me not liking the “he’s just teasing ‘cause he likes you” thing when there isn’t also some affectionate hints along with it. I feel like I see that dynamic in a lot of media and it is very hit-or-miss for me - Lousim just is more of a miss in my case. I don’t doubt they’re friends since they do clearly care about each others well-being, but I personally don’t see where the romantic chemistry is. Or maybe I’m just missing those affectionate hints that would make this one work for me, I don’t know.

As for what I wouldn’t be comfortable model swapping... pretty much anything that’s going to stir trouble. I don’t want that. I don’t have the emotional fortitude to defend other people’s ships or swap ideas for them when they can land on touchy ground.

This includes literally anything with AJ. I thought I was ok with this one since in my head I thought there are probably people out there who have a “instead of Clem finding AJ, it was (blank)!” idea, but without the context it comes across as really shippy. I bring this up because there are literally 7 requests in my inbox to have AJ (specifically baby AJ) sharing a bed with a mix of different characters. I’m not touching this one, I don’t know why I haven’t just deleted those asks, and it honestly puts me off from doing the other AJ swaps that are like “can you make AJ hug (blank)?” because I question whether this is the same person trying to coax me in with foot-in-the-door tactics. And if that is what’s going on, I’m not ok with that either.

And I won’t put James in the dancing scene with a female character. I personally think it would be ok to pretend that scene is platonic and perhaps James is teaching one of the girls how to dance because he’s secretly a master of the waltz - but I don’t think it’s possible to completely separate the dancing moment out from its romantic context since it literally only occurs in a Violentine romance route. So yeah, not touching that one either.

ANF:

I think I’m ok with most ships in this one. Though truthfully I haven’t delved that far in to it, so maybe there are ships that I just don’t know about. 

Any Javi x Whoever ship is fine, I get where people are coming from with those since he’s the protagonist and an easy projection point for people. And if there are a bunch of side-character ships going on then I don’t think I’ve seen them. So I guess that’s a case-by-case thing that I’ll have an opinion on whenever I encounter them.

Actually no, there is one ship I’ve heard people talk about from one particular fic they’ve seen... and that’s stuff involving Mariana and some of the adult men in the New Frontier - not ok with that. Not touching that one for obvious reasons.

S2:

Another controversial one, maybe, but I never got the Nuke thing. I liked seeing a strong friendship between these two where they could hug and be supportive of each other without it meaning more. I dunno, I think I like it better as them being best friends who don’t care if it looks “too familiar” when they express that. Maybe I just like that it sort of adds some normalisation to be loving with your friends in a platonic way, and if it’s romantic it sort of takes a way from that message a little for me.

I think the Luke and Jane thing comes out of nowhere and its main purpose is to stir up unnecessary drama, but it doesn’t bother me if someone elaborates on it. 

I personally find Kenny and Sarita’s relationship a little too tense to be completely comfortable with...  but again, I feel like I could come around to this one as well if it was elaborated on further. Though it’s probably going to take more to convince me of this one than the Luke and Jane thing.

As for what I won’t touch... kid ships for this season are off the table, for the obvious reasons. I think most of the other things are fine, or at least I can’t think of any big ships that would be offensive enough that I wouldn’t be ok with them.

S1:

Ummm... I really don’t know with this one. I think I’m fine with most of the common ships - unless there’s some surprise ships out there that I don’t know about.

Carlee, Mollee, Lillee, Douglee, whatever. Same deal as ANF, shipping Lee with other characters makes sense to me since he’s the protagonist and the easiest character for people to project on for shipping purposes.

The one exception is probably Kenlee. I’m not really sure what puts me off so much with this one, but I guess it’s a combination of Kenny being married with a son and also an absolute dick in my playthroughs... so yeah, this one is hard for me to get behind.

And again... avoiding the kids here as well.

I'm not sure if you talked about it more before I started following your blog, but I'm pretty curious about the origins of your dragon characters tbh. Like, are they like ur OCs you had in a big story you had in your head or smth that you adapted to write as dragons in a separate AU-type thing? I'd love to hear more about it or be directed to a place where you've written about it somewhere.

well you’re mostly right! many of my characters here (luke rúth delta neven john mikaelxandra rezann leo) are just au versions of characters i already had. and it’s less a big story i had in my head and more a 10-year project that’s over 2 million words long and 2 rewrites deep atm - i’ve written eleven or twelve books (it’s subjective) and done countless more au stuff and exploratory stories that just get into anatomy and worldbuilding and stuff like that (so like... stuff that would be really boring to anyone but me). i’m not saying any of it is any good or worth reading, but it sure is a thing. 

i stopped incorporating my old characters into fr dragons in 2015 so any dragon i’ve made since then is original to my fr lore (which started off as a fantasy version of my other story but then diverged wildly off into completely different territory) 

i do have a blog dedicated to it but it’s password locked and i’m not giving out the url. i do have a blog supposedly dedicated to my personal creative work over at @fuildorcha but it’s been a while since i posted there (but i might start posting soon since i’m starting to get back into writing and planning and what have u) 

uhh i’ll do a really basic bare-bones plot summary and a quick intro paragraph to where each character comes from under the cut here so u all know where i’m coming from 

basically it’s a first-contact story? but with alternate dimensions/parallel universes rather than straight-up aliens. each one of the characters listed above (except for the last 3) belongs to a different dimension, and the story is basically about how they meet. and there’s the added uh emotional poignancy in the fact that the first 6 of them are not human and are supposed to be the only ones of their kind, so basically each one has lived a life expecting to never ever meet another like them, to only have humans for company. but obviously they do meet. and they end up doing some really dumb but also heroic stuff while also liberating a bunch of people from oppressive regimes. they also learn that maybe the real treasure was the friends we made along the way 

the main character is luke who is fond of making these super unhelpful crusades against those he considers to be his allies but really no one wants his help because he just makes things worse like constantly, as a habit, without really caring about consequences. he’s a jerk of course and permanently fucked up after the death of his sibling way back when. but one day he makes a Big Terrible Mistake that killed a lot of people, irradiated a major city, and would have resulted in him being imprisoned for basically the rest of his life and also introduces the concept of laser superweapons to humanity (this can only go well lmao) and - as a knock-on effect - the ability to break the dimension barrier. like he really fucked up. but instead of being sent to jail he gets forcibly drafted into the service of a government scientist, emma, who gives him an ultimatum: work for me for free and get exploited endlessly, or rot in jail for the rest of ur life. his treatment at the hands of his captors (who pretend they’re on his side, they’re very evil) results in a vengeance crusade on his part that sets off the whole first-contact chain of events. he lives in a world like ours, except that there was a rebellion against the british monarchy a couple hundred years ago. on the run from the law he meets a very lost and very confused stranger who doesn’t speak a word of english and is also rúth. the two of em fall in love. aw (luke is still nonbinary and given the chance would use ‘they’ pronouns here too but i wanted to make the world like ours as much as possible and luke hates standing out in any way so he wouldn’t want to use a non-standard pronoun set. so he just uses the set that matches his name) 

john comes from a radically different dimension, one where the monarchy spread and basically controls the entire planet. but, unsatisfied with that, his queen alexandra began colonising other dimensions and stripping them of their resources (and thus ensuring that her own home is the best-equipped and richest and all that). john is the queen’s weapon, it’s his job to “quell dissenters” which is a nice way of saying that he goes in to contested areas and massacres everyone. but he is beginning to doubt his role and the ethicality thereof, and is very curious about the numerous blank patches in his memory that seem to coincide with every previous occasion he entertained potentially treasonous thoughts. seeking to put an end to luke’s campaign against her, emma reaches out to the monarchy to ask for aid. the queen sends in john to do his normal job but things don’t go as planned. john switches sides and becomes basically the most wanted person in the universe.

rúth’s dimension is inextricably linked to john’s - it is the victim of the monarchy’s first attempts at extra-dimensional colonialism. the monarchy fucked up a lot back then, before perfecting its technique, and the battle between rúth’s predecessor and john’s predecessor over the territory completely destroyed the entire mediterranean, turning it into a desert. rúth’s predecessor lost the fight and the monarchy took root in france and spread south. but an unintended consequence of the battle were the chemical reactions in the soil and atmosphere that led to the formation of dye deposits - the only ones of their kind in any dimension. if not for them, the population would have left the desert, but they hung on to mine out the dyes. rúth lived a relatively peaceful normal life until accidentally stumbling through a monarchy portal into luke’s world. with a french-english dictionary and a lot of sign language, luke manages to communicate to rúth that he needs help to fight against john

now ok, neven comes from a parallel version of rúth’s world where the monarchy lost the big battle, but the desertification happened anyway. neven’s people sought safety in the monarchy dimension and took on the mantle of being imperialist jerks. eventually a bunch of bad shit happens and the dimension becomes uninhabitable, so they do the most logical thing and build a space ship to live on. neven is there the whole time, being treated as the avatar of god and the champion of their race etc etc. in the early 1900s, the space ship breaks into a new dimension which it allies with, and neven finally meets another one like them. the two never get a chance to communicate much, but they fight together for about a hundred years and neven falls in love. aw. eventually one of the space ship’s oldest allies - the monarchy from john’s world - gets absolutely destroyed via mysterious circumstances. commander of the space ship, rezann, decides to take the opportunity to cannibalise the monarchy’s remains and execute anyone who might attempt to resurrect it - this includes john.  

delta (for it is he whom neven loves) is literally the parallel version of luke. like they are the same person, genetically identical, but their dimensions veered off very early on, so due to the two of them growing up in completely different circumstances, delta bears almost no resemblance to luke besides appearance (and then only barely). delta comes from a wonderfully idyllic background - sent to a workhouse when he was young, he was part of a rebellion that saw the workers take control and basically start their own little settlement. this prospered for hundreds of years, with delta as its guardian, until that world’s monarchy went to war. the men of the village were hit by the draft and delta decided to go with them to keep them safe. unfortunately he was discovered as Not What He Seems by the king and instead of helping his settlement, he inadvertently causes it to be wiped off the map by revealing its presence (and the presence of its pagan, blasphemous population) to the king. delta gets mind-wiped, forgets his real name, and gets thrown onto the front lines to fight beside neven. later - years and years later - he gets in some real bad shit, gets basically everything taken from him, and would probably die alone and in pain, but he gets rescued. he gets a happy ending 

leo comes from a completely different unrelated story, he’s a frustrated IT technician working in a computer shop who basically becomes the plaything of the gods. but there’s no real plot to be had, i just liked his character enough to move him over into fr at the time (2014). fr!leo has had way more character development than og!leo who i don’t really write about any more
