For what it's worth, while I recognize that reminders to log off and take care of yourself are well-meaning, I also recommend that other USAmericans who are upset right now take the time this week to find something to do about it.

If you're scared and angry, I promise it will help to do something that reminds you that you are not powerless. Consider donating to Gaza Funds, the National Network of Abortion Funds, the Advocates for Trans Equality, or another charity that you think makes a difference. Start researching your state's local 2025 elections (depending on where you live, primaries for key roles may be as early as February). Volunteer your time or money to help fight for voter reform. Look into pro-Palestine and anti-Trump demonstrations in your area.

If you know of any people or organizations involved in activism or mutual aid in your area, now is the time to reach out and ask what you can do to support them. The things I listed above are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of ways that you can work to make a difference. Everything from volunteering at a food bank to calling your congresspeople to taking direct action makes a difference. Any choice but giving up makes a difference.

Doomscrolling isn't going to change the results of this election, but neither will hiding and giving in to despair. There is always something you can do in the face of a bad election, be it immediate harm reduction or fighting for ways to ensure the next election goes better.

Believe me when I say I understand your fear and anger, and believe me when I say we'll all be better off channeling those feelings into doing something that helps people.

i share a lot of fundraisers on here but right now i want to take a moment and bring extra attention to @ibrahim-family's campaign, #25 on the @gazavetters spreadsheet:

he's only fifteen years old. younger than my youngest sibling. and he's responsible for saving the lives of his family. can you imagine having to grapple with that at 15? would you be able to handle the pressure?

every day he messages me, full of anxiety when my responses lapse, and when i share his posts or tell him what i can do to help he tells me he loves me.
