AND my only knowledge of tmi is the movie so be kind 🤗🤗
-
you turn another page in your book, daydreaming as your eyes stare at the words on the pages.
jace. jace, jace, jace, jace.
it was all jace, the only thing that clouded your mind. you found it hard to tear yourself away from the thought of him when you imagined what his lips would feel like. would taste like.
it’s been some time now, the amount of time you’ve been in love with jace. i mean, how couldn’t you? he is an angel—and lord you hate to remember how that was actually literal—but he’s kind behind all of his sarcasm.
he’s really attractive. hot. handsome. pretty, even.
scratch that, he’s more than pretty. he is gorgeous.
when you think about rain, you think about jace. you’ve always loved rain, so the two correlate.
reading, too. reading is always a fun and calming thing to do, even if you’re teased for it.
it’s not very common for shadowhunters or demon hunters to be so soft, at least that’s what jace thought.
until he met you. he likes your softness. he liked a little too much, even. he likes that you don’t wear an overly amount of makeup like izzy does.
he likes that you’re comfortable with your own beauty. sure, he knows you aren’t confident, which he doesn’t understand.
he loved all of things before clary came. to you, he was okay with those things. he didn’t care about the reading or the makeup, that’s why he didn’t tease you for it.
but when clary came, things changed. you noticed jace didn’t care much to defend you against alec’s smart comments about reading, and he didn’t even protest when izzy suggested giving you a makeover when it was time to go to magnus’ party.
yesterday, you blinked harshly as izzy’s hair curler left a section in your hair. you were deep in thought as izzy styles your hair, smiling as she brushed some hair out of your face.
“what’s gotten you so worked up?” she said in a tone one talks in after laughing. anyone else would suppose she was being sarcastic, teasing you, even. clary probably would. but you knew izzy for your entire life to know how to read in between the lines.
“i just wish i wasn’t here.” you mumbled, looking to the side.
“with me?” she scrunched your hair a little bit, giving it volume.
“no, i’d love to be in here talking to you about the party and if there would be any cute boys there or even the fucking escape route we’ll have to use once we crash the whole thing.” your voice was getting louder by the moment and izzy knew something was up.
“if you’re worried about miss googly eyed carrie or whatever her name is, i assure you she’ll only be here for a little bit.”
“i’m worried about her, yeah, but not in the way you assume i am.” you mumbled.
“i don’t know why you’d be worried, she’s not going to take your spot in hodge’s eyes.”
as izzy reached for the brush, you crack a smile. you were always hodge’s favorite, so, no, you’d never be worried about it.
“what do you mean ‘googly eyed’?” you asked curiously, pinching yourself in the wrist as you asked the question in regret.
“you didn’t see it? she’s like, totally in love with jace,” izzy smiled and grabbed the curler.
your heart drops to your feet.
“jace seems to like her, too. he’s worried about her all the time, he’s the one who brought her here… it’s love at first sight if you ask me. dontcha think?”
you swallowed. you wanted to cover your ears and scream until izzy shut up, but you couldn’t. “yeah, i do.” you tried to hide the shakiness in your voice.
“they’d be cute together. especially with the height difference. i don’t know if you got a good look at her, but she’s your height. short-”
you tried not to roll your eyes.
izzy sighed before continuing. “and it’s a power couple. she seems innocent. not much like a badass. but we both know jace, on the other hand.”
you forced a laugh. “yeah.”
“now that i think about it, you and clary are similar. really similar, actually. you guys would get along.”
you bit your lip. in this moment, you wanted to tell izzy all about your love for jace, but it wasn’t worth it. there was no point. you swallowed. “maybe, yeah.”
izzy finished with your hair and moved on to makeup. later, you found yourself wearing an extremely short dress and thigh high boots. you had to walk to the party and you walked alongside jace, it was the one time he wasn’t all over clary that day and you just wanted to hear his laugh and to laugh at his jokes.
but now, today, the pages of your favorite book tickles at your fingertips as you stare at the worlds sputtered along them, your brain not registering a simple thing.
“that book must not be very interesting.” you hear from behind you, scaring you out of your daydream.
“jace!” you exclaim.
“really? is that me?” he jokes sarcastically.
you giggle and playfully slap him in the shoulder. “shut up.”
“what book is it?”
“never mind the book, what are you doing in here?”
the blonde lets out a breath, flopping onto your bed. “boredddd.”
you’re taken aback at this. calmly as you can, you say your response carefully so it’s not sarcastic. “where’s clary?”
“what does clary have to do with my boredom?”
you almost laugh at this. “nothing, you’ve just been all over her yesterday and this morning, i thought you guys would be in a closet making out or something.”
jace’s expression drops as he feels his heart stop. his breath hitched. “why are you being like that?”
you close your book. “like what?”
“look, just because i have a heart-”
you immediately lunge forward and feel his chest area where his heart is. you try to pretend that it isn’t beating crazily fast at the distance between the two of your faces.
“not there.”
jace can’t hide his laugh. “yeah, okay. well, just because i have a heart and want to help someone out, doesn’t mean i’m in love with them! and anyway, why is it such a big deal if i were in love with her?”
“is that you admitting that you do?”
“no! answer my fucking question!” he demands.
you swallow, feeling defeated. “it’s not that. she’s taking up all of your time and i literally don’t get to see you anymore.”
you walk to your bookshelf and put your book in. keeping your cool was getting harder and harder by the moment.
“well i’m offering now?” he says, but it sounds like he’s questioning it.
“and then? what about tomorrow?” you put your hair behind your ear, reaching for a gold ring.
“what’s that?” jace gets off of your bed and points to the ring.
“remember when we were kids and you gave me a promise ring that one day we’d get married?” your voice cracks as you place the ring on your finger. “it was sweet at first, but…”
as you pull the ring off your finger, jace is quick to push it back on.
you feel the heat in your cheeks rising, going crazy. you swallow and look into his eyes.
he sighs, removing his hands from yours. “get ready, we’ll leave in a bit. and if you’re so obsessed with clary, i’ll ask her to come. you guys will get along.”
he walks out of the room leaving you blushing and confused.
~ clary is all over you, she thinks you’re the coolest person to ever exist.
“your hair looks really pretty, too.” she says, brushing her fingers through it.
“thanks, izzy curled it last night.” you try to hide the annoyance in your voice.
the cab car was extremely hot. the driver had a passenger in the front seat, so the three of you—jace, clary, you— had undid your appearance runes and you were basically hitch hiking without the driver or the passenger knowing.
jace to the left of you and clary to the right.
if you were being honest, you didn’t want to be sitting next to him after what happened earlier. was he trying to say that he still wanted to marry you after all the years?
“oh, please, stop fighting over me, girls!” jace jokes sarcastically. clary cracks up, but for once, you don’t laugh at his joke. he notices this and raises an eyebrow.
“so, clary, where’s your mundane friend?” you ask curiously, starting to think you were wrong about her at first.
“oh, he’s with izzy. she said she’ll take care of him while we go out.” clary looks out the window, admiring the city.
“right.” you turn to your left to find that jace was already staring at you, his gaze low at the hem of your dress.
you’d be lying if you said that you didn’t like the way you looked and felt in the dress and makeup you wore yesterday. you decided that before you headed back to the institute, you and izzy could go shopping. you found a ton of short dresses you bought without even trying on, of course.
“what’s up?” you say, staring at jace, his eyes dancing along the hem.
he shoot’s his head up, caught in the act. you smile to yourself. “you’re wearing makeup, aren’t you?”
you bite back a grin. “izzy gave me a bit, she said it looked pretty on me.”
jace doesn’t seem amused. “i think you look better without it.”
you don’t know if that’s a compliment, but you find yourself with a stupid grin plastered on your face as you watch the scenery outside of clary’s window.
“where are we going, by the way?” clary whispers.
“shit.” jace gasps as he grabs your hand, making you instinctively grab clary’s. he opens the door on his side and the driver stops the car, going to see why the door opened and you start running.
you and clary are cracking up at how concentrated jace is as he turns the corner.
“where are we going?!?” you repeat clary’s question from earlier as you start going down a hill.
“hodge used to take us there,” he turns to face you, who has no clue where he plans on going. you raise an eyebrow with crossed arms. “don’t start with the ‘oh, he used to take us everywhere!’ shit, we went a few times every week.”
you smile. you never realized how much of a father hodge acted as, your parents had died in a battle against vampires, and jace’s parents— no one really knew much about.
“i don’t know!” you squeal.
jace squeezes your hand a little tighter and angrily pushes past a crowd of people who jump at the feeling of being pushed but nothing to be pushed by. after blushing over this, you turn to clary who shrugs at jace’s random anger.
“are we going to see dorothea?” you gasp when you realize and jace giggles.
“dorothea?” clary asks, a little alarmed. “that’s my neighbor!”
“you live next to dorothea?” jace asks after turning around to face clary.
you see tension. you can practically feel it. it makes you sick to your stomach. clary’s going to take this moment to bond with jace, when you and him have been coming here since you were little.
“s-she’s— yes.” clary struggles, looking down at her feet.
“she’s yes?” jace laughs at her own joke. you force a laugh to get out of the rearview.
“i knew i recognized this street,” clary whispers to you as you turn the corner.
“okay.” you don’t even want to talk to her anymore. sure, it wasn’t her fault that she lives next to dorothea, but it was almost completely obvious she got nervous when jace got a little too close to her. you clear your throat. “jace, we’re here.”
jace was staring at the ground and he picks his head up without saying anything and turns back to you and clary.
“have you got a key?” he asks clary.
clary is still bright red as she nods, but she puts her hand under the mat on the porch and puts it through the keyhole.
“after you.” jace smiles brightly as he opens the door for you and clary.
you go in before her, jace takes notice to how you cut her off to get in front.
once the three of you are inside, you start to look around. it’s like a regular apartment building, budget was probably sixty thousand on the minimum interior decorating.
jace walks over to the first door on the first floor and knocks.
“shoo, put my mail at the door of my door!” you hear from inside. you look at jace and smile, who smiles back. this gives you major butterflies.
jace knocks again.
“disobeying bastards!” you hear dorothea yell from inside before the door opens and you get a clear view of her. she didn’t age, she was already really old. she looked the same.
“oh my lord!” she exclaims before extending her arms to jace and pulling him in a hug. jace doesn’t really appreciate physical touch that isn’t formed by him, but he accepts it because it’s dorothea. “jace, boy, you’ve gotten so big!”
she turns to you and extends her arms. “and hello, y/n… you’re still small and fragile…”
she chuckles to herself, but you can’t help but feel a little offended.
jace knows how you feel about this, so he rubs your back comfortingly.
“and clary…” she looks at her unamused and then opens the door completely so you all can walk in.
her place has remained the same over the years. not a single book, even, has moved.
you linger closer to jace as you tour her one-bedroom which seems to make him uncomfortable. like you’re following him.
dorothea smiles as she takes a seat at her table. “jace, y/n, come sit.”
you and jace look at each other. then you follow him to the table she’s sitting at as clary explores the room.
“oh, i can’t believe how long it’s been…” she says, looking teary eyed.
“twelve years.” you say, trying not to make it obvious you’re uncomfortable. the situation is awkward.
dorothea stares at you blankly. “you look so beautiful, dear.”
“uh, thanks… izzy let me borrow some makeup.”
if you were being honest, jace looked pissed. it was stupid he thought he could control how you lived.
“she still looks beautiful without it.” he says, facing dorothea. he doesn’t even shoot a second glance towards you.
your cheeks grow red rapidly, and you try not to smile. “thanks.”
jace crosses his arms.
dorothea smiles wildly at the two of you. “you two still plan on getting married? you’re together, right?”
you and jace look at each other and clary stops. she wants to see what he says.
then jace’s gaze moves to your ring and you feel like you’re about to explode.
jace then turns to dorothea. “maybe. i don’t know.”
you look to the side and jace doesn’t shoot a second glance to you.
is that why he gave you the ring? he still wants to marry you? like he did as a little boy?
“that’s wonderful, your babies would be beautiful you know?” dorothea clasps her hands and stands up. “well unfortunately you came at a bad time. i was just getting ready for bed, but don’t let that stop you. feel free to loiter, i suppose. i really did miss you children. and it was nice to see you, clary.”
she really doesn’t care about clary though, which makes you feel happy for some reason. like you won.
“y/n, you sure you don’t want to go home and go to bed?” jace asks with a smirk.
“shut up, jace. you never used to tease me about that. you always defended me for it.” you don’t know why you said it, but once it was out of your mouth, you felt you spoke the truth. you just wish it wasn’t in front of dorothea.
“i’m just joking,” jace laughs and clary is cracking up from beside you.
you have to finish what you started. “joking? but isn’t that what alec and izzy did? hell, even magnus!”
dorothea realized she wasn’t welcome in this argument and had made her way to the other room for bed. you shoot a glance at jace that says ‘bring this outside’ but not in a friendly manner.
jace grabs your hand and rushes you outside, leaving clary standing there, confused.
“you NEED to stop, okay?” jace spits, holding you by the shoulders.
“i’m sorry, are you angry i’m finally standing up to you and your obsession with clary?” as you said this, you kept getting up in his face. this didn’t please him in the slightest. he didn’t want to want to kiss you ask you SCREAMED at him.
“stand up for yourself some other fucking time! right now, we just came to see dorothea— i just BROUGHT you to see dorothea and you’re being an ungrateful fucking brat, you know that?”
you shouldn’t. you shouldn’t be blushing at his words. they’re not coming out in the sense you would blush at them, so why are you?
“jace..” you feel every wall within you fall. every hope and dream is shattered. “i’m done waiting for you.”
“waiting for me? waiting for me to do what?” his tone immediately dropped asks he felt his heart shatter.
your gaze is followed by jace’s when you look down at your hand and slowly slip the promise ring off of your finger. “i’m done waiting.”
you try to walk away, so he doesn’t see you cry, but he grabs you. he pulls you back in front of him and immediately attaches his lips to yours. you melt into the kiss as soon as he does it, your hands going around his neck while his travel to your waist. it was perfect. this was perfect.
after a good long moment, you come up for air, the first to pull away. you entangle your fingers in his hair and push your forehead onto his. “jace… you can’t.”
another part in jace shatters, but he doesn’t know what it is. “i can’t? i can’t what?”
you can’t help but look at his lips. pink already, and you’d only kissed for a good twenty seconds. you wonder if yours are like that. “we can’t do this. us.”
“what? why not?”
“because you love her.” you look towards the house, to dorothea’s room where clary was watching you through the window.
he chuckles and kisses you on the lips again, this time for longer. when he pulls away, he cups your face with his hand. “just you. only you. always you.”
which makes your heart explode. that was something you said to each other all the time as kids, and you can’t believe he remembered it.
“i’ve always loved you, y/n. did you think my promise ring was some kind of joke?”

I think it’s impressive how fond I’ve managed to become of Calico Jack over time. I pretty much 100% disliked him in the show, but there’s been a lot of good fanfic of him caring about Izzy and/or Ed underneath his assholish demeanor, and he’s grown on me. Also, there’s just a lot of well-drawn Calicohands fanart.
Rewatching the show several times, I find myself appreciating him more as more of a manipulator than a true idiot, and I definitely prefer that in a villain. I like the headcanon that he’s been calling Stede “Steve” as payback for the “Iggy” comments, and it seems clear now that a lot of his assholery is *actually* calculated to drive Ed and Stede apart. I can appreciate that.
But the thing that really gets me is him killing Karl. And not just that, but also seeing how upset Buttons is about it and still not giving a shit. Cruelty to animals and lack of caring when you’ve made someone cry are kind of hard to get past for me. At least theoretically.
Because the thing is, Ed did something arguably much worse—not just killing Fang’s pet, but FORCING him to do it himself. Then he watched Fang cry about it, and he was not only unapologetic, but he seemed to barely remember the fact that he’d done such an awful thing. And it’s implied that he made his owner crewmembers do the same! I feel like in fiction, something like that generally makes a character rank well past regular torture and murder in terms of evilness.
So, why is Ed still one of my favorite characters? Is it really just because his instance of pet-killing happened off screen? Or is it because we see Ed look so vulnerable in certain scenes (e.g. crying in the bathtub or by the window of Stede’s cabin) that he just mentally registers as being more similar to “cute fluffy puppy” than “killer of cute fluffy puppies”? I don’t know.
In lieu of any actual conclusion to this train of thought, I’m going to muse about Stede and Izzy:
Stede: People have done a lot of compilations about what a bitch he can be, and how he can be shockingly uncaring about his crew (not caring about Swede’s scurvy, thinking of Lucius’s death as simply “bad for morale”). And of course leaving Ed at the docks was astoundingly hurtful. But also, whenever Stede manages to notice that he’s hurt someone else, he actually feels super guilty about it. I feel like his obliviousness makes it easier to forgive him.
Izzy: Izzy goes around being an asshole for the entire show, but also, basically no one cares. Fang seems briefly hurt by the beard-pulling, but we see in e5 that he basically laughs Izzy off and calls him hurtful names in turn. Izzy threatens the crew while they’re eating in e4 and they return to what they’re doing as soon as he leaves. Stede manages to mostly forget Izzy exists unless Izzy is actively complimenting his theatrical skills. Lucius is a bit intimated at first, but quickly flips the tables by the end of e5. Ed seems completely unphased by Izzy’s yelling in e4.
It’s only in e9 where he finally hurts someone emotionally (Ed watching Stede about to be executed), but Izzy looks equally miserable himself with what Ed does that episode. In e10, he truly does hurt Ed’s emotions—but Ed covers it up with threats and acts of control to the degree that I’m not sure Izzy realizes the impact of what he’s done. After all, Ed hasn’t seemed particularly hurt by his yelling before. If Izzy actually saw Ed when he was curled up and crying, what would he do, I wonder?
In conclusion: I would have thought that things like “animal cruelty and unapologetically making other people cry” would be important things to me in a character, but it’s maybe less so than I thought (e.g. I like Ed more than Stede). It’s unclear why. I’m curious if other people who like Jack or Ed in spite of the Buttons+Karl and Fang+dog situations (and expect that you normally would care about those situations) have thoughts on this.

So I have a lot of thoughts about Our Flag Means Death, and now I want to talk specifically about the scene where Blackbeard tells Izzy they should kill Stede, and Blackbeard should take Stede’s place as captain, so that he can retire the Blackbeard name. I’m of the opinion that, at the time of this scene, Blackbeard wasn’t actually planning to kill Stede. Instead, I think it was a spur of the moment comment to temporarily settle things with Izzy. I’m not sure if this is a popular or unpopular view, but I have opinions, so get ready for some textual references!
Putting this under a read-more because this is about to get DETAILED.
In this post, I’ll be focusing on Blackbeard’s interactions with Stede before he proposes this plan (primarily episode 4)  – There are details about Blackbeard’s background that I think could also back up my point, but I’m saving them for another post, mostly because I think that Blackbeard’s “no kill” policy and the event that prompted it both need a lot of unpacking. I’ll also be exclusively referring to Ed as Blackbeard throughout this post for clarity, since I typically switch based on context.
So let’s start with Blackbeard’s interactions with Stede before he suggested this murder. Obviously, Blackbeard doesn’t know Stede well at this point -- they just met! But it does seem like Blackbeard was genuinely smitten with Stede from the time they first met, possibly even before so -- Blackbeard was always fascinated by what was in Stede’s cabin, and even when Stede was unconscious, and Blackbeard spent a decent chunk of time sitting by his bedside. And when Stede is disrupted in his sleep, mumbling that he was a coward, Blackbeard reaches for him, seemingly in a comforting gesture
Once Stede finally wakes up, we know explicitly that Blackbeard is fascinated by the ways in which Stede differs from other pirates. If we hadn’t picked up enough from Blackbeard’s body language, he says as much to Stede:
“You know how hard it is to find someone doing something original out here? It's impossible, man. And here you come with your library, and your fancy quarters, and your secret little closet full of, full of frilly shirts and, and summer linens. Fuck. There's two chandeliers. That's overkill. An open fire on a wooden vessel surrounded by bits of paper. You're a fuckin' lunatic, and I like it.”
Once Stede is awake, we can’t ignore that Blackbeard introduces himself as Ed, intentionally not mentioning that he’s Blackbeard. While that could be a way to throw someone off their footing, that doesn’t seem to be suggested by the context. Instead, Blackbeard wants Stede to interact with him like he’s a normal person, just another pirate. And even after Blackbeard reveals himself, Stede continues to refer to him as Ed. Considering that, as far as I remember, Izzy is the only other person who *ever* calls Blackbeard by Ed, that’s a pretty special place for Stede to hold.
And THEN, we have the scene where Blackbeard and Stede have swapped clothes -- Stede claiming to be Blackbeard and Blackbeard claiming to be Stede. Izzy, of course, confronts Blackbeard, claiming that he’s not acting like the pirate he signed up to work with. And yeah, the pirate he signed up to work with would likely have already killed Stede and taken control of the ship. For the most part,   Blackbeard ignores him -- He’s too busy looking at Stede. Eventually, though, he realizes that Izzy is actually angry -- Izzy even threatens to resign! At this point, Blackbeard realizes that he needs to do *something* to keep Izzy in his corner.
And now, things escalate -- Izzy is threatening Stede, with Fang and Ivy at his back. They could kill Stede and take over the ship easily, the rest of the crew falling into line. But instead, Blackbeard steps in and completely redirects the tension. He continues to refer |to Stede as Blackbeard, and mentioned that Spanish ships are in their path. He claims that if Stede doesn’t make a decision, everyone will die. But as Stede is panicking, unable to decide what to do. Blackbeard interjects, “Death it is… But wait!” And Black Pete breaks in, “You’re a genius, Blackbeard!” because, of course, Blackbeard already had a solution in mind! If Blackbeard had wanted Stede dead, it would’ve been the moment when they had Stede cut off from his crew  --  They had Stede on his own, AND they would’ve had a grateful crew, happy that Blackbeard had saved them.
But let’s keep moving forward through the episode… Obviously, Blackbeard’s plan didn’t go as he’d intended. He misremembered the date,  and as a result, his plan to save the crew had failed! He goes back to Stede’s quarters to drink until they were attacked. But Stede follows him (because of course he does). And as they talk… they both realize simultaneously that there’s a solution they hadn’t considered!
And this leads us to the lighthouse scene. I’m not going to talk too much about this scene because a lot of it hinges on symbolism, and I want to focus on Blackbeard’s textual motivations in this episode. But on a literal level, this scene very much shows us that these two are capable of working together and working together WELL. And considering the small size of Blackbeard’s circle (Fang, Ivan, and Izzy, with Izzy being the only one who calls him Ed), I cannot imagine he doesn’t notice and appreciate this. And as a side note… Blackbeard’s line, “Would you blow into those flames there? -- Careful of your face” is a very ironic choice if his real plan is for Blackbeard (i.e., Stede) to show up dead, “his corpse disfigured beyond recognition.” Personally, I just think he doesn’t want him dead.
But now, let’s jump past the lighthouse, we have the conversation between Blackbeard and Stede where Blackbeard suggests, “If you were to show me the ways of an aristocrat I could probably show you a thing or two about being a bloodthirsty pirate,” and when Stede asks him if he’s serious, Blackbeard replies “It’s the most fun I’ve had at seas in ages.”  Again, Blackbeard could *potentially* be speaking with the goal of throwing Stede off his guard. Maybe he’s planning to learn more from Stede and THEN kill him? But personally, I just don’t buy that -- His words feel too true, and they match with what we’ve seen throughout this episode -- He HAS been having fun on the ship with Stede, and he’s clearly already attached.
So finally, we’ve reached the moment where Blackbeard tells Izzy that he plans to murder Stede. Again, it feels pretty noteworthy that this happens during the same episode that Izzy says he’s going to resign. It feels like Blackbeard is offering this as a band-aid solution to fix his relationship with Izzy. If Blackbeard was actually going to kill Stede now, after rejecting the previous opportunities, now would be another good time to do it --  they still were wearing swapped clothes, and the crew was as likely to defect to Blackbeard as ever. Instead, the episode ends, and the next time they’re seen, they’ve swapped back to their regular clothes. Blackbeard never mentions the murder plan again until Izzy gets impatient and brings it up again, even bringing Fang and Ivan along as backup.
Anyway, my personal opinion is that Blackbeard never intending to kill Stede, which I hope is backed up here.

Ok so a conversation @littlx-songbxrd and I were having made me remember something I was ranting about to a friend of mine once.
Brace yourselves this is going to be long. I'm sorry.
The sexism, homophobia and racism of the shadoworld straight up doesn't make sense and here's why. So if we start chronologically with the infernal devices. There is sexism towards Charlotte right? People don't want her running the institute and they don't want her becoming the consul because she is a woman. But the Clave has no problem letting women train and fight. This doesn't really make sense in my opinion.
Now you could argue that it's because they believe woman can be string capable fighters just not rational thinkers. Which is weird because in my experience you don't meet a lot of people who are "partially sexist" in that way. Like if a man believes a woman can't do high profile, high paying jobs then they usually also don't want them in the military. Anyways moving on, there aren't any mentions of homophobia in TID, mostly because they're arent any queer characters except Magnus and Woolsey.
But something interesting to point out is that none of the characters who know about Magnus and Woolsey ever comment on it really. And following this point, none of the mains display any signs of misogyny either really. (Except for what Will says to Tessa at the end of CA but that was because of the "curse.") You could argue that this is because they're the protagonists so they are supposed to be better then that. But accidental microaggressions are pretty common especially during that time period. More on that later.
Moving onto racism, this is the interesting part. Jem says to Tessa that shadowhunters believe that you are a shadowhunter first and your nationality or eace second. Actually Jem doesnt mention race but he says this while talking about being half Chinese so it's kinda relevant. Shadowhunters rarely tall about race throughout the books in general except for a few instances. When Jessamine criticizes Jem to Tessa, she calls him a foreigner and says some other racist shit that I can't really remember. Something about the yin fin and calling him lazy. That directly contradicts Jem's statement about them all being shadowhunters first. Also Will and Jem actually constantly talk about being Welsh and Chinese in the books so that statement is kinda bogus in general.
And if CC didn't want her mains being sexist or homophobic to show them as good people then why was it ok for both Jesse and Gabriel to say questionable shit about Jem? Anyways moving on to TLH. Sexism is still running rampid with their cultural customs and people being shitty about Charlotte being consul. Bots have to ask the girls to dance, girls cannot have sex before marriage or else they will be ruined or whatever you know the drill. But again, they let the girls fight. Cordelia is allowed to carry around a giant ass sword but she can't get some????
IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE CASSANDRA!!!!!
Sorry I'm losing it. Anyways. Regarding racism. Alastair and Cordelia have experienced micro aggressions from the mains (Matthew and Anna) but it's never addressed. I'm pretty sure if memory serves, the inquisitor makes a nasty comment under his breath about persians when the Carstairs family sans Elias arrive. And then we have the whitewashing of Ariadne/Kamala by her parents.
But none of this stuff ever gets brought up really. Exceot for Kamala talking about her past and who she was before and sharing her original name, but she still doesn't talk about how it effects her potential coming out. Alastair doesnt mention race when he talks about the bullying he went through at the academy and none of the white characters ever stop to think about how Kamala and Alastsir's races play a part in their crappy situations.
There's probably more I could discuss with this but I'm moving on to homophobia. It's a thing in terms of the heteronormativity and people's judgement of Anna but it's not illegal like in mundane societies at this time. But all of the mains are totally cool with it which brings me to, I'm sorry but fucking bullshit! There is no way every single adult would be totally fine with it in this time period. Like I'm not saying outright homophobia but maybe some questionable comments you know? (CC is perpetuating this idea that good people never commit microaggressions which is untrue and harmful.)
I don't think there's any mention of whether or not gay marriage is allowed in the shadowhunter world at this point. Because the issues surrounding Magnus and Alec getting married were about Magnus being a warlock right? Because Helen and Aline got married before them in TFTSA because she was only half fae. So that brings me to when was gay marriage legalized in the shadow world?????
Is there any mention of this because I don't think there is? Anyways moving onto TMI. This is where everything goes to absolute shit in terms of world building with the standards for these things. Misogyny isn't really a problem in tmi anymore from what I remember. Nobody has issues with Jia as consul (from what I remember,) and that's that. But homophobia is still rambid throughout shadowhunter society so much so that Alec is terrified to come out because he believes that he can't be gay and be a shadowhunter in peoples eyes. Also there is pressure to "carry on the family name" which doesn't make sense because if the sexism has died out then women can have babies with whoever and not even be married and carry on their family line. And not everyone needs to have children, ergo there is less pressure on the sons to carry on the family name or whatever. This also doesn't make sense because homophobia literally cannot exist without sexism!!!!
This is because of colonial gender roles being forced on society. And men being with men and women being with woman totally smashes the whole gender roles, "woman do this and men do that" idea. There's more that I could say on that but this is already so freaking long so please just look it up. And speaking of gender roles it's literally mentioned that Maryse didn't teach Izzy to cook because she didn't want her to be forced into a housewife role like she was (although there's no evidence to suggest she was?) But then Maryse is lowkey homophobic?
It doesn't make sense Cassandra!!!!!
CC doesn't get that you literally don't have homophobia or transphobia without sexism. Indigenous societies pre-colonization didn't care about any of that stuff. Literally two spirit people were revered and respected and no one gave a fuck about gender until my ancestors literally came along and ruined everything. (I'm so sorry.)
But anyways there's no mentions of racism amongst the shadowhunters in tmi. Just Maia talking about her experiences with mundane society as a black girl. When Clary confronts Valentine and basically calls him a n*zi, he laughs at her and basically says that shadowhunters don't see race the way mundanes do which yikes @ CC. Granted this was 2007. This kind of sounds like what Jem said in TID. Only it clearly wasnt true.
Anyways I'm just super confused at this point. In TDA there was basically nothing in terms of all the isms and phobias. (Oh we arent even discussing ableism because my fucking head will explode!) But we do discuss transphobia a bit with Diana. But again it doesn't make fucking sense because transphobia exists because of sexism and clear gender roles (and homophobia.)
Society is still shown to be pretty heteronormative though which I guess makes sense but the Blackthorns have multiple queers in their family! You would think that they would be less so. When Livvy mentions all the reasons that Annabel could have a forbidden love she doesnt even think to mention that it could be a lesbian relationship. When Mark finds out that Jaime was in Dru's room he freaks out but I guarentee you, he wouldn't have if Jaime was a girl. I mean you could argue that it's an age thing and not a gender thing but idk. That scene always bothered the fuck out of me. Because Mark is literally half fae like why is he caught up on bullshit "boys and girls can't just be friends" hetero bullshit.
In QOAAD we see Dane Larksoear being sexist so randomly for no reason. Like it's so strange because CC literally created a caricature of a sexist villian with him. And it makes no sense because no one else seems to feel the way he does. Like Zara is basically the leader of the cohort right? And nobody gives a fuck. It makes no damn sense Cassandra!
And finally, why is the faerie world sexist with gender roles WHEN EVERYONE IS LITERALLY BISEXUAL AND THEY'RE FAERIES CASSANDRA!!!???? THEY'RE LITERALLY FAERIES WHY IS THERE A CONCEPT OF GENDER AT ALL CASSANDRA????!!!!
Ok lol now I'm done. Sorry this is so long. But yeah I'm so confused.
Tldr: CC's world building in regards to sexism, homophobia, racism and transphobia is very inconsistent and contradictory and it makes no damn sense.

Saying Goodbye
Pairing: Izzy Stradlin x Reader (Requested)
Author’s Note: I hope you enjoy! This is my first ever Guns N Roses imagine!
Tumblr media
“Hey (Y/N), you coming to the party?”
You looked up from what you were doing to meet the gaze of your coworker, Chase. He stood across from you, wrapping up cables and sorting them before putting them away. He looked at you expectantly.
“Is there a party tonight?” you asked him. As a roadie, you weren’t commonly invited to parties. Sure, the road crew hung out after shows quite often, but those weren’t official hang outs really.
Chase chuckled. “Yeah, everyone’s headed over to some bar after we finish packing up the gear,” he said.
“Who’s everyone?” you asked.
“Everyone,” Chase said. He looked around and lowered his voice dramatically. “I think even Axl is gonna be there.”
“Hmm,” you hummed, thinking about whether you felt up to go out tonight. The party sounded intriguing, but you still had quite a bit of work to do before you’d be able to leave. It was rare that the members of Guns N Roses would be attending the same “party” as the rest of the crew. They were rising to fame, you were not. However, it wasn’t like you knew any of them very well, so it really didn’t matter too much that they were going to be joining everybody at the bar. Not to mention the fact that you were pretty shy and large social gatherings intimidated you greatly.
“I think I’ll probably just skip it,” you decided after thinking it through. “I’m pretty beat from the past couple of shows.” Guns N Roses had just played three nights in a row and you were tired from the constant rigging and unrigging of lights.
“Aw,” Chase said with a frown. “Well, if you change your mind, feel free to find me.” He finished packing up his box of cables and made his way down the hall, presumably to the buses outside.
You just sighed as you continued to work at dismantling some stupid light for travel.
You found yourself meandering through the hotel after you finally finished up your work for the night. It seemed like everyone else had gone over to the bar already, so you were on your own for the night though you didn’t mind too much. You figured you’d head outside for a breath of fresh air and maybe a quick smoke before going to bed early.
As you made your way through the lobby though, you quite literally bumped into someone.
“Oh, I am so sorry,” you said, gasping as your body collided with another. You looked up and were slightly mortified to see none other than Izzy Stradlin standing in front of you.
“It’s okay,” he said, giving you an awkward smile. “I wasn’t watching where I was going.”
“Neither was I,” you confessed, returning the smile.
You both stood there for an uncomfortable moment filled with silence.
“Um, your name’s (Y/N), right?” Izzy asked, reaching up to scratch the back of his head.
“Yeah,” you answered, surprised that he knew who you were. “And you’re Izzy,” you added, kicking yourself after saying so. Obviously, he was Izzy. He was part of Guns N Roses for fucks sake!
Izzy laughed a little at that. “Yeah. You’re not out with the rest of the crew tonight?” he asked, tilting his head to the side.
“Nah,” you replied. “Not really my scene.”
“Me neither,” Izzy surprised you by saying. “I’m not a huge party kind of guy.”
“Really?” you couldn’t help but ask. You had assumed Izzy went out with the band all the time.
He shrugged. “It’s not so fun when everyone knows who you are.”
“Oh,” you answered, not really sure what to say. “Well, I’m just going out for a smoke,” you said, beginning to move past him.
“You mind if I join you?” he asked. Truth be told, he had just come back inside from a smoke outside, but you didn’t need to know that. He found you interesting and wanted to stay in your company for a little bit longer.
You surprised yourself by nodding. “Okay,” you said.
The two of you made your way outside and to the side of the hotel building. There, you stood, leaned against the brick wall. Izzy lit yours and his cigarette with his lighter and the two of you smoked together in the quiet darkness.
After some time had passed and both of your cigarettes were down to the filter, Izzy spoke again.
“This is nice,” he mumbled, stamping out the cigarette but on the pavement. “It’s nice to have some quiet, y’know?”
You nodded in agreement. “Yeah, don’t get too much of that on this tour,” you said.
“Tell me about it,” Izzy responded. “I think you and I are the only people who know how to stop talking.”
You blushed slightly at his comment. This was your first time ever talking to Izzy and he was already grouping you and him together as the quiet ones.
“Well,” you said, gathering up some courage, “if you ever need some quiet company, just come and find me.”
That’s exactly what Izzy did.
In the following weeks, you and Izzy became fast friends. He would find you during the day, setting up for the show, and promptly drag you away from your work to go grab lunch with him. After his concerts, you would rush to finish packing up so you could go back to the tour bus or the hotel and find Izzy.
You and he were often left to do your own thing. So, while the rest of the band or crew would go clubbing or bar hopping, you and Izzy would go sightseeing or out for a meal. The tour took you all across the United States and the two of you spent your shared free time exploring all the new sights and attractions each city brought.
Of course, your favorite part of all this was getting to spend time with Izzy. He was quickly becoming one of your best friends and sometimes you would even catch yourself thinking of him as something more.
The feelings were requited. Izzy felt like he had found his other half in you. Someone who was more laidback and quieter like him, but also someone he felt he could talk to for hours on end.
The North American leg of the tour was quickly drawing to an end though and both of you were nervous for what the future had in store for your relationship. While you would like nothing more than to continue travelling with Guns N Roses as part of their crew, your contract would be ending with this part of the tour. You would be headed back home to your normal life and Izzy would be going to Europe.
Being a roadie had been a bit of a last-minute decision. You’d been in need for a paycheck and a friend of yours had known a guy who was able to get you this gig. It was kind of amazing actually that you were able to be part of such a big tour, but they had been pretty desperate for another set of hands that could start right away so you were hired. In your mind, this had always been a temporary position. You always knew you would return home and work towards finding a career that was more stable and didn’t take you so far from home for so long.
Izzy knew of your plans too. You had told him weeks ago, but knowing you were going to be leaving him ahead of time did nothing to ease the pain of knowing that he would be without you once again.
So, neither of you said anything about your feelings and instead chose to pretend like the end wasn’t coming.
It was at the airport where everything finally came out.
You weren’t even needed there but Izzy had insisted you come with him for a last goodbye. During the drive over, he slipped his hand into yours and gave it a tight squeeze. No words needed to be spoken for you to understand what he was trying to say. You squeezed his hand in return and rested your head on his shoulder. Out of the corner of your eyes, you watched the world quickly pass by through the window. You found yourself wishing time would just slow down.
When you got to the airport, most of the crew was tasked with unloading all the equipment and taking it to where it needed to be checked in. You made your way inside with Izzy and the rest of the band though, your job already over.
Izzy was still holding your hand as you walked in. He slowed his pace, letting the rest of his band pass the two of you by, so you and he could have a moment alone to say your goodbyes.
“You could come with us,” Izzy proposed, knowing entirely that you would reject the idea.
“Izzy,” you sighed, tears welling up in your eyes, “My whole life is here. My family, my friends- all of that is here.” You blinked your eyes shut tightly, trying to stop the tears from falling.
Izzy reached up to gently wipe away a stray tear that had managed to cascade down your cheek. He continued to cradle your cheek after drying your face.
“I know,” he said. His voice with tight with emotion.
You forced a smile onto your face. “Guns N Roses is going places, Izzy. You’re going to be flying all around the world, touring, and recording albums, and constantly moving. We’d be living in different worlds.”
“You don’t have to explain it to me,” he said softly. “I get it. Can you just promise me one thing?”
“What’s that?” you asked.
“Promise me you’ll always remember that I love you,” he said.
You pulled him into a passionate kiss the second the words left his mouth. Waves of emotion wracked through your body as your lips met his. It would have been the perfect kiss if you hadn’t known it would be your last shared with him.
“I promise,” you whispered, pulling away from him.
Izzy just nodded, not trusting himself to say much more without breaking down. He planted a small kiss to your forehead before taking a step back from you and picking up his suitcase.
“I guess this is goodbye,” he said, his own eyes now watery.
“I guess so,” you agreed. “Goodbye Izzy.”
“Goodbye (Y/N).”
All you could do was watch as Izzy turned away from you and made his way over to the rest of the band and the crew members that would be accompanying them on the next leg of their tour. Upon his arrival, Axl threw an arm around Izzy’s shoulders and threw a glance back at you. You paid him no mind though, too focused on Izzy’s retreating figure. You stood frozen in place as you watched them make their way together over to the terminal and eventually out of sight.
When he was gone, you tentatively raised your hand to your lips, remembering how his lips had felt against yours and heartbroken that you would never know the sensation again.

Thoughts on Grey’s Anatomy: 17X7
SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
They did it! I can’t believe it! They actually killed DeLuca off! I’m so happy right now! As long time readers will know I have never been a Andrew DeLuca fan and I speculated back in the summer that they might be planning to write his character off after it was revealed that the planned finale for Season 16 included an explosion that was supposed to claim the life of one of the characters. I speculated that DeLuca was the most likely candidate with Tom and Jackson being the most likely runners up because I felt that they had gone as far as they could with DeLuca’s character and there wasn’t much left for him to do on the show.
Add that to the fact that the actor who plays DeLuca said a bunch of stuff to the press last year where he spoiled some pretty major plot points and stated that he knew things about where the show was going when he hadn’t even read a single script for the season yet and I was pretty sure his days were numbered. That being said, the show had teased us a bunch of times about firing, killing, or writing off the character during seasons 15 and 16 and they never went through with it so a big part of me was skeptical that they ever would.
But it turns out I was right! His days were numbered and they wound up killing him off in the Mid-Season Premiere! I’m still in shock. It hasn’t really sunk in yet to be honest. This episode honestly made me wish we’d gotten to see the remaining episodes and finale of Season 16 as planned. Based on what we know it looks like the plan was for Richard, Bailey, Meredith, and Carina to stage an intervention, DeLuca was to go away and get treatment and return to the hospital only to die tragically in an explosion.
Season 17 would have opened with the characters finding out about that and mourning his death and I think it would have been interesting to see Meredith navigate that as in the Finale Hayes asked her out and she said yes. It seems likely that if the COVID-19 Pandemic had not hit when it did and shut down production and altered filming for this season we would have seen Meredith and Hayes go out for a drink and start dating.
Seeing Meredith navigate the loss of her ex-boyfriend who she was no longer close to while in the beginning stages of her relationship with Hayes would have been very interesting and I’m sorry we didn’t get to see that. I’m also sorry that due to safety restrictions Meredith and Hayes haven’t had much screen time this season, but it looks like that’s about to change as I’ll get into a bit later.
Back to the episode at hand. I never liked DeLuca as a character and I hated him with Meredith so I’m glad that they killed him off and that we never have to deal with that nonsense again. I’m glad that they caught the human trafficker Opal and took those people down. I was never super invested in that storyline so I’m glad they wrapped that up. I feel so bad for Carina though. She’s a great character and is wonderfully acted by Stefania Spampinato.
My heart broke for her in this episode because while I won’t miss her brother I know that she will and will be absolutely gutted when she finds out that he’s died especially after she worked so hard to get him help and treatment for his Bipolar Disorder. I’m glad she has Maya there to support her.
LOL at Bailey sleeping through the whole damn episode! What did I miss indeed! That poor woman slept through DeLuca getting stabbed, almost dying, not dying, having surgery twice, and then actually dying as well as the other shenanigans going on at the hospital. I loved that she was asleep at Meredith’s bedside especially after they spent a good chunk of Season 16 fighting.
I also feel really bad for Richard in that he’s obviously grateful that DeLuca helped save his life and wanted to help and when Owen turned him down because it wasn’t a good idea for him to scrub in Richard lurked in the background in the OR gallery the whole time to make sure that everything was okay. Plus he can’t talk to Meredith about it right now because she’s in a coma which must be so difficult for him. The extra stress also puts his sobriety at risk and that worries me.
I got to be honest I am struggling to understand Teddy’s point of view this season. She’s being really awful! She’s being cruel to Tom. She was cruel to Owen. I don't know what Teddy expected to have happen. Both Cristina and Amelia walked away from their marriages to Owen and moved on with their lives in large part because they realized Owen was in love with Teddy and always would be.
And then she finally gets what she’s wanted all these years and the minute she realizes Amelia’s baby might be Owen’s and not Link’s she runs back to Tom and has a several months long affair with him and then drops him like a hot potato as soon as she realizes that the baby is Link’s and after Owen finds out about the affair she refuses to talk to Tom for months and then comes crawling back to him and wants to be his friend after Owen makes it clear he wants nothing to do with her. WTF?
I feel bad for Tom. I really like his character. He’s super interesting and complex and he deserves better than someone who treats him like that. Tom is a good man at heart and he treated Teddy like gold and in return she’s done nothing but break his heart and stomp all over him when he’s already down. He deserves someone better. I’ve never been an Owen fan, but honestly Teddy is behaving so horribly I’m on his side on this one.
They had some great scenes in the OR together, but Teddy clearly read too much into it. Every time he gives her a crumb she’s convinced he’s forgiven her and wants to give her a second chance and that’s not it at all. Owen has been clear. He doesn’t forgive her and he doesn’t want to get back together with her. All he wants is to co-parent peacefully and work together as colleagues because he values her skills as a surgeon. That’s it.
It was cute to see Teddy Face Timing with Leo. I’m glad they are finding safe ways to incorporate the kids into the story. Speaking of which, the scene where Amelia and Maggie tell Zola that her Mom has been placed on a vent and she might not come off it was heartbreaking. That kid has grown into her own as an actress and really holds her own in that scene.
Her line about how she didn’t want them to tell Bailey or Ellis yet because they’re too young to understand broke me heart. Zola’s only a few years older than them but she’s old enough to understand the impact of what’s happening in a way that they can’t. And she remembers how hard it was when Derek died. When Cristina left. When Alex left. She doesn’t want to put her siblings though the same thing especially when Alex’s departure is still so fresh for them and they never got a chance to really know their Dad. The fact that Zola can recognize that at such a young age is raw and heart breaking.
We saw Winston and Maggie reconnect this episode which would have been super hot and enjoyable if Meredith hadn’t just been put on a ventilator! The scene where Jackson showed up looking for Maggie was too funny! I loved the scenes with Jackson, Link, and Winston in the backyard having beers! Winston has a great sense of humour and seems to be a calming presence. I like the idea of those three being friends.
Link’s face when he realized that Winston doesn’t know that Maggie and Jackson used to date and are also step-siblings. I’ll be interested to see Winston’s reaction when that comes out. I loved Link’s rant about how worried he was about Meredith and what her declining health and potential death was doing and would do to Amelia. Did anyone else catch that he called Amelia his wife? I’m calling it. They’re foreshadowing an Amelink wedding!
I liked hearing Jackson talk about how Meredith is family and they’re all worried and Winston’s comments about how all they can do is just keeping moving physically and metaphorically. I’m also loving Amelia and Maggie’s wardrobes this season. Their sweaters in this episode were gorgeous! Hats off to the wardrobe department! They’re looking good!
I loved seeing Jo and Hayes work together again because I love their friendship, but to be honest I was expecting more of the friendly teasing and banter of last season where she egged him on about Meredith and they traded barbs. Their scenes in this episode were a lot more intense and agitated. She totally played him with that line about Meredith.
He kept saying no to taking Luna to see her Mom and so Jo made it personal for him. If Meredith asked to see her kids Hayes would never say no and he would move heaven and earth for her. By making that connection Jo got him to agree to her plan. I also love that the reason he kept saying no in the beginning was because of what happened to Meredith.
She went from laughing and joking to being put on a vent and he doesn’t want to run the risk with any other patient and it’s obviously eating him up inside. He misses her. He cares about her and he’s clearly terrified about the possibility of her not waking up. That being said, Jo’s line where she compared Alex leaving her for Izzie because he found out he had kids he didn’t know he had and sending her a heartfelt letter to Hayes spending years watching his wife and the mother of his two boys die of cancer was way out of line. Super not okay. I really think that Jo is going to adopt that baby. I think that’s why they are setting up her interest in OBGYN.
In other news, Nico is still a terrible boyfriend to Levi. I honestly don’t know why Levi puts up with him. Levi really shone in this episode I think. He felt responsible for what happened, but instead of bungling things and making things worse like he might have done in the past he got out of his own way and asked Dr. Khan who was a vascular surgeon in Pakistan prior to immigrating to the U.S. to take his place.
I feel like this episode implies that the Beach is limbo now as I don’t know how else DeLuca could have ended up there as he wasn’t someone who was close to Meredith the way that Derek, George, Richard, and Bailey are. Not sure how I feel about that as I was kind of liking the is it a COVID dream is it the afterlife ambiguity.
Onto next week’s promo! I’m not excited that they appear to be setting up an episode in which the other characters mourn DeLuca’s passing as none of the other characters apart from Carina were really that close to him. They spent the last two seasons establishing that everyone hated his guts, considered him a nuisance, and only put up with him because they had to. So to me the other characters mourning him doesn’t feel authentic or real. It just feels forced.
There are several things I am excited about though. Seeing Maggie’s reaction to his death I think will be interesting. She was visibly upset and ran to his side when Alex beat him up in Season 13 and mourning the loss of your ex-boyfriend who you were no longer close to while being in a committed relationship with someone new I think is an interesting dynamic. She’s kinda standing in for Meredith here because she’s on a vent.
I’d like to see Catherine support Richard and make up for her horrible behaviour last season. And the best thing of all: Hayes!!! In the promo trailer we see Hayes sitting at Meredith’s bedside talking to her about how she needs to fight and how they all need her to fight. Bring it on! It’s about damn time! And Derek’s back and he’s … fishing? I’m excited to see what happens there and if they actually get to talk and have a real conversation this time. It has also been announced that Sarah Drew will be returning for a cameo as Dr. April Kepner this season so I’m excited for that!
Until next time!

I’m Dying for a Taste of You
Summary: Alex Manes is a vampire hunter tasked with hunting down rogues who kill humans. His next target is Michael Guerin. Known to sometimes over-indulge at the blood balls and was placed at the most recent scene by witnesses. But this might be more than Alex bargained for. Top Michael. Bottom Alex. Alex POV. PLEASE READ WARNINGS
A/N: I just wanted an excuse to have the two of them flirt while a weapon is pressed between them. Because reasons. I’ve left this open for continuation but I want to finish my other AU before starting a whole new one. There are the beginnings of a plot but this truly is just porn. Cute ending though.
Warnings: Please be aware that the kinks featured in here get intense. Light masochism, biting, blood drinking, overstimulation, marking/claiming, Dom/sub, Predator/prey, possessive behavior. There are some soft moments but it is very much a rough and dirty sex fest. Read at your own discretion.
Read on AO3 // Masterlist
-
Alex was no stranger to the smell of blood but this place made even him want to gag. Scantily clad men and women wandered around shamelessly, blood dripping from various wounds on their body. More power to them he supposed but how anyone could enjoy being sucked within an inch of their life by a vampire was beyond him.
Blood balls were the equivalent of drug dens. Except these were technically legal. Alex looked back at the police officers positioned at the doors and around the room. No one was supposed to die here but someone clearly missed that memo.
He knew he was overdressed. As a donor at least. He wanted to cover as much of his skin as possible without drawing suspicion. He didn’t need his target sniffing him out before he had time to take the shot. Not to mention he needed to keep his gun concealed. There was also a retractable knife slid into the side of his boot.
He looked down into his glass, the whiskey inside colored red from the lights surrounding him. He hadn’t seen his target yet. Then again, maybe he was already here, back in one of the private rooms drinking and being sucked off by his next victim.
“Hey there. You must be new,” a sweet, feminine voice said. He looked up as the young woman sat across from him. Her corset pushed her boobs up in a way he was sure drove any straight or bi man crazy. Long blonde hair and bright blue eyes. Tall, slender. She was beautiful. Or at least she was until he noticed the blood dribbling from the side of her lips.
“Sorry. I’m just observing today,” he said shyly, hoping it would get her to go away.
“Oh honey. Careful with that one. Remember where you are.” How could he forget. Her nails tapped on the table a couple times before she grinned at him, flashing her fangs. She made her way around the table to stand in front of him.
“Just a tip, the best way to know if you’re into this or not, is to jump right in. I’d be happy to go easy on you. Or, if I’m not your type… I know some sweet guys who would treat you right.”
His shoulders tensed. Not that this was a place where he should be nervous about being gay. Most vampires didn’t seem to care one way or another. The woman leaned in close, the smell of her perfume covering the blood pretty well.
“I also recommend leaving that gun tucked away,” she teased. His eyes darted around the room, checking to see if anyone heard her. But if she noticed, chances are the others did too. Was his cover blown before he even started the mission?
“Maybe you can help me then.” She raised an eyebrow. “I’m looking for a rogue vampire. He’s been killing women he takes home from this place.”  She hummed and looked around.
“Does this vampire have a name or are you throwing around baseless claims, hunter.” Her voice was still sweet but there was an edge now. The nails on her fingers could almost certainly rip his throat out before he had time to react.
“The suspect is named Michael Guerin. Do you know him?” She barked out a laugh.
“You must be delusional. Michael wouldn’t hurt anyone. In fact, no one at this club does that kind of thing. If they do, we dispose of them ourselves.” He was taken aback. The woman played with the edge of her corset.
“I recommend you get out of here. You won’t find what you’re looking for,” she said, crossing her arms. He clenched his fists and stood slowly.
“I’m sorry for disturbing you.”
He turned and ran into a hard chest that didn’t budge. He gazed into golden brown eyes. A sharp jaw and a scruff that clearly hadn’t been shaved in days. A crown of curls sat atop his head and a lazy grin sat on his lips.
His shirt had the sleeves rolled up and buttons left undone. There was an unmistakable red stain covering the shirt. His slacks hung low, button and zipper left open. Alex wanted to drool at the sight. He mentally scolded himself. There was nothing attractive about a vampire.
“Someone looking for me?” His voice warmed Alex in places he knew it shouldn’t have. This was his target. “Should we go to my private room? I don’t want you to be uncomfortable on your first time,” he said, shamelessly looking Alex up and down. His cheeks warmed and he couldn’t think of anything to say.
“Careful there brother. He’s a hunter,” the woman said.
“Thanks Izzy. I got this. I think that beautiful girl I saw you flirting with earlier is waiting.” Alex assumed she left. He couldn’t take his eyes of Michael. He must be using a charm of some sort. It was the only explanation. He was a professional damnit.
Alex shook his head and broke eye contact with him. Not all vampires could control minds that way but it was better safe than sorry.
“Please. Follow me,” Michael said, turning away from him. Alex’s head jerked up to watch him go. He shouldn’t follow. It was safer surrounded by people. But he was inviting him to be in close quarters, making it easier to kill him.
The two of them walked away from the slow throbbing music. They passed a couple. A man leaned over another, licking up the blood that had run down the other’s chest. The man being fed on was clearly into it. Their moans were vulgar and Alex turned away from them. How could anyone just do that in front of others?
Michael led him to a door, even going as far as to open it for him. He wanted to reach for his gun but pulling to early would compromise the mission. He had to wait until his guard was down. Vampires enter an intoxicated like state after feeding. That was his opening. If he had to spill a bit of blood to complete the mission then he would.
The door led to a long hall with several doors lining the walls all the way down. Michael walked down about halfway before stopping in front of another door. It had his name scrawled on a golden plaque.
“I’m afraid you’re going to have to give me your gun mister hunter. I’m sure you can understand why. I’d hate to have to kill you before we get a chance to talk so best to just comply.” Alex met his stare for a brief moment before reaching inside his leather jacket to the holster for his gun.
He handed it over cautiously, praying that he didn’t just shoot him. Then again, Michael liked to drain his victims. There was never a single drop of spilled blood on the scene. Michael smiled and stepped inside the room. Alex followed him in and looked around.
The lighting in here was more normal though it still had a red tint. A loveseat sat to the side and a bed in the middle of the room, headboard pressed against a wall. Alex didn’t know what to do. The bed was too intimate. The loveseat reminded him too much of a casting couch from porn.
Michael fiddled with glasses at a small bar filled with various hard liquor and wine. He set the gun down next to an open bottle of bourbon. He must have been pretty confident to think that Alex couldn’t get it back from there.
“Well don’t just stand there. The bed and couch are cleaned between visitors.” Michael handed him a glass. He wasn’t going to drink it.
“I just have some questions for you. It wont take long,” he said.
“The first thing you say to me is a promise that I won’t get to enjoy this for long? Tell me, do you like to torture men?” Alex rolled his eyes but as hard as he tried, his flirting was getting to him.
“I just want to know if you’ve seen this girl,” he pulled the folded photo from his pocket and handed it to Michael. He looked at it for a moment and then shook his head.
“Can’t say that I have. Then again I don’t keep track of every person that comes here. And some guests opt to wear masks if you hadn’t noticed.” He had noticed. Which made this even harder. But this man had to be the killer. He was placed at multiple scenes by witnesses.
“How often do you leave with your food for the night,” he said, letting his disgust sneak through.
“Oh, I see. I’m a suspect.” Michael let out a heavy sigh, not seeming bothered by his comment in the slightest. He seemed more disappointed than defensive.
“Just answer the question,” Alex ordered. Michael’s nose twitched. He was moving into dangerous territory. This man could easily kill him if he wasn’t prepared. He shouldn’t be trying to piss him off but he couldn’t stop himself.
“For your information. We have rules.” He stepped closer. “We don’t leave with the donors. They all leave first.” Another step. “And we stay behind.” He was just a few inches away. “It’s also frowned upon to seek out donors outside of blood balls.” Alex’s breath hitched in his throat as he leaned in. Michael cursed under his breath and let out a heavy sigh. The tips of his fangs reflected the light.
“I don’t think you know how good you smell,” he muttered. Alex felt his cheeks flush. He tried backing up but his legs hit the loveseat, making him stumble back on it instead. Michael hovered over him, placing his hands on either side of his head. Alex couldn’t sink any farther into the couch.
Michael placed a knee between his legs on the couch, leaning into him. His eyes showed hunger and lust. Alex tried to squash down his own excitement. It was fucked up. He shouldn’t be feeling this way. He should be repulsed. But his body just wouldn’t listen.
Not wanting to ruin his jacket (at least that’s what he told himself) he shrugged it off and tossed it to the side. His heart raced when Michael groaned and ran his tongue over his teeth.
“I knew you liked teasing. I promise to be gentle.” Alex gripped the couch as his head moved to the crook of his neck. He tried to stay still but he wanted nothing more than to wrap his arms around him and pull him closer. Michael’s breath tickled his neck. “You can ask me to stop,” he said, voice shaking with need.
He wanted to. He didn’t want to.
This man was a murderer and he needed to end this before he was the next victim. Alex stamped down his desire and shoved Michael back. He wished he could have appreciated the surprise on his face longer.
He grabbed the knife in his boot, flicking the blade open. He tackled the vampire to the ground, straddling his hips, knife pressed to his neck. Michael just laughed and watched him.
“Now that you have me like this what exactly do you intend to do?”
“You will die here. You didn’t show mercy to those girls and I refuse to show mercy to you!” He pressed the blade into his skin, drawing a line of blood. This was it. All he had to do was pull and he would die. At least long enough to put a bullet in his head.
So why did he fucking hesitate?
“One second too long hunter.”
He was flung back. Or rather carried by Michael. His back hit the wall, knocking the air from his lungs. His hand wrapped firmly around his neck. Michael snarled at him, fangs on full display for Alex to see. He twisted the knife from his grip.
“Kill me if you want! There’ll just be more,” Alex threatened. Michael traced the point of the knife down Alex’s face, never pressing hard enough to draw blood. He shook his head.
“I don’t want to kill you. It would be a waste of a beautiful face.” he responded. His eyes flicked down. “Your body is far better suited for pleasure.” He knew he was blushing. What was this game they were playing? He dragged the knife over his neck and down his chest. His muscles tensed and he hated the way his cock responded. This had to be a spell.
“You don’t know shit about me! It’s not real pleasure if you have to put someone under a spell.” Michael’s eye twitched with annoyance. He pulled the knife away and released his grip on his throat.
What the hell?
“I don’t use that shit. It’s better if they actually want it.” He paused and shook his head. “I didn’t hurt those girls either. But you’re going to believe what you want.”
Michael turned away from him and moved back to where he had set the gun down. He picked it up after retracting the blade of the knife. He walked back to stand in front of Alex, holding out both weapons in front of him.
“Just leave hunter.” He took the gun and knife from him, wide eyed. They never taught them what to do when the vampire gives the weapons back. Especially not with a face that looked so crushed. Michael was back to pouring himself another drink
“Alex,” he found himself saying. Michael’s head turned slightly.
“What?”
“My name is Alex. So you can stop calling me ‘Hunter.’”
“Why tell me? We’re never going to see each other again,” he said with a humorless laugh.
“Well that would be a shame,” Alex joked back without thinking.
He wanted to eat his words. For a second he forgot he was dealing with a vampire. He didn’t want to flirt with him. But the way the muscles in his back flexed at his words made it hard to regret. He watched his hands grip the bar, knuckles turning white.
“Leave Alex. Or I might do something you don’t want.”
Alex should leave. He knows it. But that look was so lost. So broken. And so familiar. He’d seen that look on himself in the mirror. He dropped his weapons on the couch, watching Michael’s shoulders jump at the sudden noise.
He took slow cautious steps toward the vampire, watching his breathing grow more erratic with every step.
“Please, don’t come any closer,” he begged. Alex stopped. He was close enough to touch him but didn’t want to upset him further. “I told you that you smelled good. That was an extreme understatement.” Alex stood there quietly for a moment, heart racing.
“What do I smell like,” he asked quietly. Michael let out a strained whine.
“Like fucking heaven. Vanilla, leather, alcohol and about a million other things. I can hear your heart racing you know. I’m scared that if I were to taste you, it would never be enough.” Alex swallowed.
“Why?” Michael spun around and stepped into his personal space, their noses nearly touching. His fangs were fully extended
“Because I can tell. You’re blood would be like top shelf drugs. There’s other vamps out there that can smell you and are pissed they can’t have you. Don’t let any vampire have you, understand? Claiming would be inevitable.”
He had only heard the most basic information about a vampires claim. They usually did it with another vampire but sometimes they would claim a human. It was the equivalent of marriage. He didn’t know much about the actual process.
“I understand.”
Michael stepped back again, running his hands over his face, probably trying to make his fangs go away. Alex knew that wasn’t easy. Once they had been pushed that far, it was either feed or starve until you can distract yourself from it. Like an even worse form of blue balls.
The thing was. If Alex left right now, Michael would go back out there and find some other donor to satisfy him. The thought made him clench his fists. Why was he jealous? It wasn’t like Michael was his. He didn’t want anyone to drink his blood. Even if it was someone as beautiful as Michael.
Alex turned away from him to grab his jacket and weapons. They would never see each other again after tonight. He would keep looking into the deaths of the girls. But he knew for certain it wasn’t Michael. He picked up his jacket and held it on his arm. He looked down at the knife. Then the gun. Then the knife again. He dropped his jacket.
He picked up the blade and flicked it open.
Am I really going to do this?
Yes. He was. He pressed the blade to the pad of his hand. He sliced.
The knife was flung out of his hand and he was pressed against the wall once again. Michael’s eyes were filled with fury and hunger. Heat shot straight down to his groin.
“What the fuck are you doing? I just said—”
“Drink.” Blood dripped down his arm. Michael’s eyes were wide and desperate.
“Alex,” he groaned.
He pushed his hand closer to his face. Michael just turned away. Fighting every natural instinct he should have. Alex pulled his hand back, pressing his own mouth to his wound. His blood was warm and tasted coppery. Though he knew it would be different for Michael.
Michael gasped like he was in pain. Maybe he was. Either way he didn’t hold Alex down hard enough to restrict his movements. He lifted his non-bleeding hand to turn Michael toward him again. Their eyes met briefly. Alex leaned in slowly, wanting to give him the option to back out.
The blood on his lips should have repulsed him. Yet he was finding that none of this was repulsing if it was Michael. Their mouths pressed together. Michael tried to keep his tongue from licking at the blood on his mouth but it was no use.
A shudder ran through Michael. Then he was yanking Alex flush against him, tongue driving past his lips to taste his own. Alex whimpered as his fangs grazed over his bottom lip. Suddenly he was laying on the bed, Michael positioned between his legs and hovering over him.
“I’m sorry,” he said desperately. He leaned to lick up the blood that had dripped and Alex’s hips rolled of their own accord. Michael groaned, pressing his hips against Alex in return.
Michael sealed his mouth over the cut, tongue running over the shallow wound and sucking gently. His teeth scraped but never pierced skin. Alex pushed his shirt off one shoulder and Michael yanked his arm out and the other followed. He tossed it somewhere in the room and moaned when Alex ran his hand over his torso.
He watched Michael in awe. It looked like he was kissing his hand. It was beautiful.
After a minute or so, Michael pulled away, a drop of blood still on his lips. Alex leaned up to kiss him again, wrapping an arm around his neck. His hands found the hem of his t-shirt and pulled up. They broke apart to toss it away as well.
Their skin moved against one another so easily, like they were made for this. For each other.
Michael broke the kiss again, resting his forehead against Alex’s. His teeth still hadn’t retracted. Alex, stroked his face softly. Then he turned his head to the side, exposing his neck.
“Fuck Alex. I said don’t let anyone have you. That includes me,” he said, tracing his fingers over his pulse point. His mouth may as well have been watering.
“But you need it don’t you?” Alex glanced back at him, angling his head further, encouraging him. Michael pressed his mouth against his neck, licking slowly. He kissed and sucked but never bit him. Alex rolled his hips again.
“I can find another donor. I won’t hurt you,” Michael pleaded. His voice was strained. It was taking everything he had to resist. A stab of pain in his heart. He shoved Michael back and grabbed his face, forcing him to meet his eyes.
“I don’t want you to find another donor.” His eyes flashed red, bloodlust taking over him. Alex leaned in close, pressing a hard, fast kiss to his mouth. He wasn’t afraid. This beast could kill him but he wasn’t afraid. He dragged his lips down Michael’s jaw and neck until he got to his pulse point. Then he bit.
Alex was yanked fully onto the bed, arms pinned above him. He couldn’t move even if he wanted to. Pure power rolled off Michael in waves. Alex knew the dangers of triggering bloodlust but he did it anyway. He wanted it more than anything. Wanted Michael to just take what he needed. But he knew, somewhere in the back of his mind, Michael wouldn’t hurt him either.
“You want this, Hunter? Fine. But we do it my way.” He laughed, burying his face against his neck, teeth scratching gently. Alex’s jeans were too tight and he wanted nothing more than to have them ripped off of him. Literally. “Never thought I’d see the day a hunter would beg for it like this,” he teased.
“Shut up and kiss me before I change my mind,” he ordered. Michael just shook his head, leaning close.
“Bossy, bossy.” He kissed him again. All the vampires he had interacted with until now had been almost cool to the touch. But Michael… he was as warm as Alex. Maybe it was the bloodlust or the desire but fuck if he didn’t love it.
He dug his nails into his back, pulling him in. Other guys he had been with hadn’t been into that but vampires were different. They lived for the pain. Or rather, as he was learning, the line between pain and pleasure.
Michael moaned and nipped at his bottom lip. This time though, he let his fang catch, letting a drop of blood form before licking it away. His body shuddered at the taste. Alex didn’t know how he could be turned on but if he went to hell for the things he was feeling right now, then it would all be worth it.
Michael released his arms, dragging his hands down his body to the waistband of his jeans. His nimble fingers undid the button and zipper, yanking them down quickly. He broke the kiss again, making Alex whimper from the loss of contact.
“Patient hunter. I know you can be.” The nickname was no longer filled with suspicion and annoyance. Rather it sent another shot of need to his hard dick.
Michael went to pull his jeans completely off but stopped short of his knee. Alex froze. In all the tension and fighting, he had completely forgotten about his missing leg. He had never been so gone to forget that. What was this man doing to him? He looked down at Michael, worried this would make him stop all together.
“On or off?” It was such a simple question. But the fact that he had asked, while still very much in bloodlust had Alex relaxing back against the bed again.
“I can move better with it on. But if you want it off so you can have your wicked way with me…” Michael laughed and pressed his head against Alex’s thigh, nuzzling him.
“If you’ll let me, I’ll take care of you,” he assured. Alex nodded and sat up, beginning the process of removing the prosthetic. Michael moved to a different part of his body. He crawled around behind Alex and was kissing his shoulders, hands roaming all over his biceps and torso.
Alex tried to not get distracted but damn that mouth. His tongue darted out every now and then, wetting his skin. When he finally got it off along with the sock, Michael took it from him gently, setting it on the floor.
He resumed his attention on his shoulders and neck. Alex relaxed against him, whimpering sounds slipping from his mouth. Michael had found his pulse point again and was paying special focus on that one spot. His hands wandered down to his underwear and the very noticeable bulge. Alex groaned when he cupped him through the fabric. Michael didn’t tease long before he had pulled him out of the constricting material, rubbing him slowly.
“Fuck,” Alex sighed out. He felt Michael’s grin on his neck. Alex reached behind him, tangling his fingers in the beautiful curls, pressing his mouth over his artery. This pulled a moan from Michael.
“I’m dying for a taste of you. Please, can I have you,” he begged. Alex felt his teeth again and his cock jumped in anticipation.
“Yes,” he breathed out.
Michael didn’t go straight in like he thought he would. He pulled away from his neck, a tight control on his movements. He readjusted so that he sat behind Alex, legs on either side, body pressed flush against Alex’s. His slacks did nothing to hide his obvious arousal and it pressed against Alex’s lower back.
“Lean back against me and relax as much as you can,” he ordered gently. His hand continued stroking him, though it was more a second thought. Alex did as he was told, running his hands over what he could reach of Michael’s arms.
Michael’s free hand held his jaw gently, tilting his head to the side. He locked his lips over the spot again but still didn’t bite. He sucked and massaged with his tongue, serving only to work Alex up, making him thrust into the hand still wrapped around his cock. When he was satisfied, he pulled away, speaking low next to Alex’s ear.
“This might hurt at first. But it’ll get better. Trust me.” And he did. Alex didn’t know why, but he did.
Michael licked his neck again. Desire coiled in his stomach. A light pinch, then a throbbing pain. He gasped as Michael’s teeth sunk into him. His first instinct was to yank himself away but the warmth spreading throughout his body called for a different reaction.
His hand found its way into Michael’s curls again, holding him in place. His eyes fluttered shut, getting lost in the feeling of having Michael attached to his neck. He felt more than heard him groan. His hips jerked up into his hand again.
The dizziness set in quick, as though he had been drugged. Every part of his body felt like a nerve ending and all he wanted was Michael’s hands everywhere. The hand wrapped around his cock stroked with more purpose. Alex moaned loudly, not caring if anyone heard. Maybe even wanting people to hear.
He could feel Michael’s tongue licking at his neck where the blood dripped. His hips stuttered, struggling to keep up with the pace Michael set. Alex cursed and tugged on his hair. Desire twisted in his stomach and every muscle in his body flexed.
His orgasm hit harder than he expected. His back arched away from Michael though he was held in place. White stripes spurt over his torso and Michael’s hand. His body shuddered as he kept working him, overstimulating to the point of pain.
“Fuck! Michael…” he gasped out. He felt Michael detach from his throat. He pressed his tongue to the wounds, slowing the bleeding. He released his cock, running his hands up over his torso and through the cum. Alex whimpered at the touches. Every nerve in his body screamed for more while simultaneously making him want to run away for a bit of relief.
The waves kept rolling through his body, as though he hadn’t come down from his orgasm. He dug his fingers into Michael’s head and twisted his other hand into the sheets. The small moans only seemed to urge Michael on. He ran his hands over every part of Alex he could reach. He pressed gentle kisses to his neck.
“Shh… it’ll pass. Just relax,” he whispered to him.
“What… did you… do…” Alex panted out as his cock attempted to reharden.
“It’s my venom. I use it to take away the pain.”
Vampire venom. Sold on the black market as a party drug. When used in excess, it can put someone out for almost a day. In small doses, an aphrodisiac. When injected straight into the bloodstream…
“Fuck I feel everything… it’s too much, damnit!”
“It’ll wear off in a couple minutes. I’ll let you go until then.” Michael released him. He moved fluidly, not even brushing against Alex as he got off the bed. Alex scratched at his skin. He reached in the direction of the vampire. His fingers brushed against strong abs.
He refocused his eyes and took in the beautiful sight of him. His slacks still hung low and open. Enough that Alex could tell he didn’t have any underwear on. His muscles tensed under his fingers. He dragged his gaze up his body and finally landed on his face. Blood dripped from his lips and his pupils were dilated. His teeth had retracted so they only looked slightly longer than normal.
Alex grabbed his wrist, pulling him back onto the bed and on top of him. Michael let his surprise show when Alex grabbed him and kissed him. He hesitated at first but soon he was kissing Alex with all of his pent up need.
Alex grabbed his slacks, yanking them down to free his cock. He needed Michael inside him. Prep be damned.
“Fuck me. I need you to fuck me,” he pleaded, trying to pull him closer. He kicked off his own underwear in the process. Michael groaned and kissed him again. Alex felt the prick of his teeth.
“Damnit,” he cursed, pulling away from the kiss and hiding his face. Alex had caught the briefest glimpse of his teeth. Alex reached up to pull the hand away from his mouth. The teeth were already back. “I knew you would be a fucking addiction. I’ve had you and now... It doesn’t help when you say things that make me want to claim you,” he growled as he nuzzled against his shoulder. Alex’s heart flipped. He knew it shouldn’t have but this man turned out to be an addiction for him too.
“I need you Michael,” he mumbled again, taking his hand and dragging it down his body. His cock was half hard again. He was ready. Michael felt this and gave a low laugh.
“Who am I to deny you, hunter?” Michael was gone for less than a second before he was settling between Alex’s thighs, a bottle of lube in his hand.
Michael kissed his thighs as he coated two fingers with lube. Alex tried to keep as still as possible but the venom still working its way through his system had him thrusting toward wherever Michael touched him.
Michael rubbed around his puckered hole, the cool temperature of the lube a startling contrast to his own body. He pushed himself up on his elbows so he could watch Michael. The sweat that had formed on his neck rolled down his chest.
“Fuck, you smell even sweeter down here. But I feel like you’ll be pissed if I mark you up too much,” he said, nuzzling the soft inside of his thigh. He pressed a finger inside him, moving slowly. Teasing.
Alex let out a strained moan, the sound catching in his throat. He had to know what he was doing. How drawing this out drove him so crazy. He’d always been a patient person but with Michael, it wasn’t fast enough. He grabbed Michael’s hair, forcing him to look up at him.
“Mark me up as much as you want. But move your damn fingers faster or I might kill you,” he threatened. A sinful smirk grew on his face.
“You really know how to get a guy going,” he teased back. Alex would have responded but the finger that had been teasing him curved up, pressing against his prostate. His head rolled back as he released Michael’s hair and a second finger pushed in with the first.
The damned things fucked him open as he felt Michael’s tongue on his thigh. A quick nip then the sharp pinch of his teeth. The pain was hardly there compared to the first bite. The warmth that had been subsiding roared back to an inferno. His brain didn’t know what to focus on.
Michael decided for him as he scissored his fingers and began pushing a third in. He massaged the muscles, rubbing against Alex’s prostate more with every thrust. He was close again. Twice in less than ten minutes. It had to be a record. For him at least.
“Gunna… come…” He mumbled out. His hips moved with the thrusting of his fingers, forcing them deeper. Michael groaned and lifted the leg he was attached to over his shoulder, opening Alex up and giving him a better angle.
Michael seemed to bite down harder, sending a sting of pain through him. The not unwelcome feeling made his cock jump. He panted, reaching down to tangle his fingers in Michael’s hair again. He cursed as the fingers buried inside him spread him open. They twisted and curled to press against all the right places.
It was the press of a fourth finger that sent him spiraling over the edge again. His vision went white as it pushed in with the others. A choked sob ripped from his throat as his hips jerked, adding to the mess covering his torso. Alex fell to the bed, back arching as he gripped the sheets and Michael’s hair.
He felt Michael detach himself from his thigh, licking at the wounds to stop the bleeding. He pulled his fingers out of Alex’s ass slowly, careful to not press against any more sensitive areas. Alex’s head was spinning. Was it the orgasm or the loss of blood?
His hand fell from Michael’s hair as he crawled up his body, hovering over him. Alex’s half lidded eyes let him take in the beautiful man. He looked every bit like a predator deciding how to kill its prey. The blood that ran down his jaw and neck only made Alex want him more. He belonged to this man now. There wasn’t a single doubt in his mind.
Michael leaned in close, nuzzled the side of his neck that he hadn’t bit. Alex whimpered as his head rolled to the side. He would let this man kill him if he wanted. Michael exhaled a laugh, pressing soft kisses to his jaw and over his cheek. A gentle finger turned Alex’s head back to face him. Michael kissed him gently.
“No more. Don’t need you passing out from blood loss.” He brushed a piece of hair off Alex’s forehead, smiling sweetly. “You ok?”
Alex didn’t know if he could give an answer. He felt more than ok but also very obviously not thinking clearly. His body burned from the venom but he found that it wasn’t like before. He wasn’t desperate for more but Michael’s hands on his body were a welcome feeling rather than a painful one.
“I think so. What did you do,” he asked slowly when he found his words again.
“I took back some of the venom. While another vampire might be able to handle going a third round right away, I’m well aware you’re just a human,” he joked, rolling off and propping himself up on his elbow.
Alex looked over at him in all his naked glory. He was still rock hard and Alex felt bad that he hadn’t gotten off yet.
“You saying I’m not as good as another vampire,” he teased half-heartedly. Michael rolled his eyes and leaned in, speaking low against his ear.
“You far surpass any vampire. But if you were one… I could fuck you all night.” His heart hammered in his chest. Michael’s fingers traced patterns over his arm and torso, placing featherlight kisses to the spot under his ear and his jaw.
“You’re saying you want to turn me?” Michael froze in his movements, his body tensing.
“Careful Alex. Even suggesting it - especially when I’m high on you - the temptation is there. The idea of having you with me forever… fuck I want it. But you don’t deserve that kind of life.”
His heart skipped a beat. The idea didn’t exactly make him cringe or feel disgusted. Anything to keep this man next to him. His brain wasn’t in a right state and he knew it. As much as he wanted to believe it was.
He didn’t respond to the words. Just turned to face the vampire. He pushed him to his back slowly, pressing kisses to his collarbone and moving down his torso. Michael sighed happily, gently running his hand through Alex’s hair.
He nipped at the muscles on his sides, earning him a mixture of laughs and quiet moans. Alex wrapped his hand around his hard cock, rubbing slowly as he kissed his abs and down to his hips.
“Fuck Alex,” he breathed out. He felt himself grin. He moved and licked the head of his cock. Michael groaned and rolled his hips slightly. Alex took him into his mouth, using his hand to control how deep he went. The weight was heavy on his tongue and the salty taste made him moan. He hadn’t given head in a long time and he was remembering why he loved it so much. Then again, maybe it was just Michael.
Alex moved his tongue to massage the length of him. Michael rocked his hips slowly, never rushing him, just petting his head softly. He occasionally pulled but never hard. Alex relaxed his jaw, taking in more of him every downstroke. The head eventually hit the back of his throat. He held him there for a moment, loving the feel of him throbbing in his mouth.
Alex looked up at Michael through his eyelashes. He groaned and his hips jerked, making Alex gag slightly.
“Your mouth is a sin, hunter. I don’t know how long I can keep from fucking it.” The words sent desire straight to his cock. Though he wasn’t quite ready to have Michael abusing his ass again, he could at least give him a good blowjob.
Alex moaned around his cock, removing the hand wrapped around the base to run over his thighs. He dug his nails into the soft skin and scratched. Michael’s hips jerked again but he didn’t gag this time.
“You want me to fuck your mouth? Use you? Take what I want?” Alex groaned at the thought. That was exactly what he wanted. Michael pulled him off his cock. He released him with a wet pop and smirked at the vampire. He shook his head before climbing off the bed and standing at the edge.
“Lay down you damn brat.” Alex positioned himself on his stomach in front of him. He looked up at him, waiting for instructions. Michael ran a hand through his hair and down his face, looking at him almost lovingly.
“Tap my leg twice if it’s too much.” Alex nodded. “Words,” he ordered. Alex shuddered at the demanding tone.
“Ok.” Michael smiled and leaned down, pressing a kiss to his mouth. He pulled back slightly, still close enough for their lips to touch when he spoke.
“Now open your mouth and look at me the whole time.” Alex watched him as he stood up. He opened his mouth as ordered, waiting for any further requests. There were none as the fingers in his hair tugged gently and Michael was slipping his dick into his mouth.
Alex wanted to let his eyes close to focus on the feeling of him but he didn’t want to disobey him. Somehow he thought he might regret it. Michael moaned and started rocking his hips, slowly at first. He did the same as Alex had done earlier, working himself all the way in as to not choke him. Though Alex wouldn’t have minded it.
Michael hit the back of his throat and he shuddered at the feeling. His fingers tightened in his hair and he thrust his hips forward. Michael moaned and did it again. Curses tumbled from his lips as he fucked into his mouth. Alex groaned around him, causing his hips to stutter in their rhythm. Alex’s eyes fluttered shut.
“Look at me.” The order was practically growled at him. His eyes popped open and Michael forced his cock deep, triggering his gag reflex again. He gripped Michael’s thighs, attempting to control his thrusts. Unsuccessfully.
Michael thrust into him hard and fast. His own cock was starting to feel neglected and he rubbed himself against the sheets, looking for friction. Michael laughed and smirked above him, never faltering in his movements
“Is your cock hard already? You’re so fucking good for me. I don’t know how I’ll ever let you go. Maybe I won’t.” Alex moaned again, rocking his own hips. Michael panted above him, watching him the whole time.
Alex glanced down at his slightly elongated canines. They weren’t like before but Alex knew he was craving something. He met his gaze again and Michael growled placing a hand over his eyes.
“Don’t look at me like that.” Alex didn’t know what he saw but he didn’t have time to dwell. Michael’s thrusts were losing their pattern, getting deeper and harder.
Then he was calling out. Moaning loudly and shoving himself to the back of Alex’s throat. Hot spurts coated his mouth as he swallowed as best he could. The throbbing against his tongue had his own hips picking up speed. He was past the point of caring that he was dry humping the bed like a teenager.
Michael pulled away and was hauling Alex up to his knees, crushing his mouth to his. His tongue darted out to taste himself. Michael wrapped his arms around his waist, keeping most of his weight off his legs. Alex groaned at the pressure of his cock being trapped between them, pressing against Michael’s abs.
“You’re so sexy... So responsive… Drives me crazy,” he punctuated each phrase with a kiss. Alex took his face in his hands, running his fingers over the stubble. He pressed his forehead against Michael’s, just breathing him in. He smelled like rain. He ran his thumb over his lips, and when Michael’s mouth opened, slipped one inside.
He brushed it over his tongue and back out. He did it again, this time pausing to catch his thumb over one fang. Michael took in a shaky breath, as though this was the most intimate thing they had done since meeting.
Alex could no longer imagine his life without Michael in it. He refused to have this be the only time they saw each other. Despite all his training to kill people like him. He was beginning to think it was all a lie. What had these people really done? Just because they drank blood from willing doners? Sure some of them killed people and they should be held to the laws of the government, just like anyone else. But to generalize a whole group? That sounded too familiar.
The pad of his thumb caught on the point of his tooth, drawing blood. He hissed, more out of surprise than pain. But Michael didn’t see it that way. He took Alex’s hand and pulled it away from his mouth, holding it to his chest.
“Sorry. You shouldn’t mess with those. I don’t want to hurt you unnecessarily.” Alex smiled and shook his head. He tugged his hand out of Michael’s and pressed his thumb to his lip, just as he did earlier with his palm.
He kissed him softly. Michael whimpered as he licked at his lip. Alex found himself being lifted then placed on his back on the bed. Michael had settled between his thighs and he could feel him poking his hole. Michael bent his legs back to have easier access.
“I need to be inside you before I do something stupid,” he said with barely contained restraint.
“Stupid like what,” Alex couldn’t help but ask.
Michael leaned over him, kissing and nuzzling his marked neck. Alex turned his head as though it was instinct now. He couldn’t stop it even if he tried. Michael moaned quietly.
“You’re making it really hard not to claim you.” Alex wrapped his arms around his neck. Some part of his brain thought through his next words but it certainly wasn’t the rational part.
“Then do it.”
Michael jerked back from him, an almost terrified look on his face. But even that couldn’t hide the joy dancing in his eyes. He shook his head.
“Alex. You don’t know what you’re saying.” Alex blinked and sat up, running his hands over Michael’s torso and shoulders.
“Maybe. But it feels right, doesn’t it?” He leaned forward, pressing kisses to his chest. Michael groaned softly then pushed him back down to the bed, bending his knees back
“It’s the venom talking. If you still feel that way after I fuck you, then I’ll consider listening.” Michael pressed himself against his ass again. He grabbed the lube bottle again and coated his dick.
He used the excess on his fingers to slip them back into his hole. One finger, then two, then three, making sure he was still ready. Alex moaned but knew not to get too used to it. Michael pulled his fingers out and guided his cock to replace them.
He pressed forward slowly. Alex’s back arched as he stretched around him, marveling at the fact that just the head could make him feel so good. He heard Michael curse from above him as he tried to go slowly. Alex’s fingers twisted into the sheets.
Michael thrust forward firmly but not rough. Alex groaned and tried to move his hips toward him but Michael held him in place. He pushed again and the head of his cock rubbed against his prostate, making him whimper and moan.
“I’m fine, Michael. Fuck me,” he pleaded. Michael trembled as his hips thrust forward roughly. Alex yelped in surprise. He felt so full and his cock leaked with precum.
“Do you have any idea how good you look right now? Spread open on my cock, leaking, begging me to fuck you.” Alex moaned when he thrust forward as he spoke. Everything faded to the back of his mind except for Michael and the way his body moved against him.
His thrusts picked up speed and he grunted with the force he used. Alex could hardly think about anything other than the way he pounded into him. He tried to watch Michael above him but every thrust was sending shockwaves of need through his body. His eyes fell closed as he got lost in the feeling.
Little moans slipped out every time Michael sank into him again. The headboard of the bed bumped against the wall. Alex felt a hand wrap around his throat, fingers carefully avoiding the bite. He opened his eyes to Michael staring at him a small smirk on his face. He lifted his hand to cover Michael’s, squeezing his fingers around his neck.
“You are so fucking perfect, Alex. How has no one snatched you up yet,” he said, leaning forward as he squeezed the sides of his neck. Not giving him time to respond, Michael kissed him with an open mouth. The dirty sound of them separating made Alex whine. “You are mine now. Do you understand?”
Alex normally hated this kind of entitlement. He always insisted that he didn’t belong to anyone. But something about it coming from Michael’s mouth made him want it more. These were obvious red flags but he couldn’t help himself. He moaned against Michael’s mouth.
“Yours,” he gasped out.
After a few more hard thrusts, Michael pulled out, though Alex didn’t have time to complain. He flipped him over and pulled him up on his hands and knees. He pressed down on his shoulders, forcing him down on his forearms.
He spread his ass and slid into him again, not bothering to go slow. Alex buried his face in the mattress in an effort to muffle his moans. Michael grabbed his hair and pulled him back up.
“Don’t you dare. I want to hear you. I want the whole place to hear you.” Alex shivered and his own cock jumped. Michael fucked him ruthlessly though he was almost sure he was still holding back. The desire that coiled inside him was ready to snap.
“Michael,” he moaned out, only managing his name. Then he was being pulled up so his back was against his chest. Michael wrapped one had around his cock and stroked. The other was in front of his lips, bleeding from a small bite on the heel of his hand. The same place Alex had cut his own.
Alex pressed his lips to the wound, licking at the blood. He should have been disgusted but again he wasn’t. Michael pressed his lips against the spot he had bit earlier, grunting out his words.
“Tell me you want this. That you want me to claim you.” His voice was pleading. The rational part of his brain told him to say no. But every other part of him screamed yes.
“Please. Claim me,” he whimpered out.
Michael’s teeth were sinking into him before he even finished talking. It wasn’t as intense as before but there was a dull pain. Then the warmth was spreading again. So much hotter than before and taking over every part of him. Michael fucked him hard and he could feel every groove and twitch of the cock inside him.
Alex’s third orgasm rocked through him, making him call out Michael’s name repeatedly. He came all over the sheets but his body wouldn’t stop burning. Michael detached himself from his neck and pushed him forward again. He seemed to let himself go, slamming into him at an abusive rate. Alex’s cock tried to come again but there was nothing left as it twitched helplessly. All he could do was moan and take whatever he gave.
With one last deep thrust, Michael cursed and came inside him. He ground his hips against him, using Alex to milk his cock. He rocked his hips gently a few extra times before pulling out. Alex’s legs shook and he felt Michael trialing kisses over his spine.
He let himself down slowly, laying on his side and panting hard. The burn had turned into a dull smolder and was quickly fading. Michael curled around him, leaving kisses wherever he could reach.
“Are you ok,” he asked after a moment. His mind was starting to clear. What had just happened? He lifted is fingers to run over the bite mark on his neck. At first, a panic started to build, but it was overtaken by comfort.
“Yea. I’m just… processing.” They were silent for a couple minutes.
“You regret it,” he said, a sad certainty haunting his voice. Alex felt him start to pull away. He turned toward him immediately grabbing his hand and holding it to his cheek.
“No. I don’t regret it. The whole thing was just—”
“Intense,” Michael finished for him. Alex nodded. He glanced down at his mouth. Before he could think better of it, he kissed him. Their first non-desperate, lust filled kiss. Michael held him gently and Alex ran his fingers through the curls. They broke apart after a moment.
“I suppose now would be a bad time to make you promise not to kill me, hunter,” Michael joked. Alex snorted and ran his hands over his arms, feeling the muscle.
“I promise.” He paused. “What did you do to me exactly?” Michael sighed and propped himself up on his elbow. He ran his fingers over the mark on his neck.
“They don’t teach you that in training? Man, the academy is sure going downhill.” Alex rolled his eyes. He wanted a real answer.
“Michael,” he scolded gently. He sighed again, running his hand through Alex’s hair.
“Basically, my blood will heal you if taken alone. But I also injected you with my venom. Well over the amount needed to cause a blackout, mind you. But with my blood in your system, it forms a bond instead.” Alex nodded, covering Michael’s hand with his own. He smiled and leaned in close, pressing a kiss to his forehead.
“No other vampire will dare to touch you unless they want to deal with me. I can keep you safe.” Alex chuckled as the vampire planted kisses all over his face and down his neck, eventually landing on the mark.
“I hardly know you,” Alex pointed out.
“But this feels right. And I can’t wait to get to know all of you,” Michael responded, lifting his head and gazing down at him with the softest expression Alex had ever seen. He pulled him in again, kissing him lovingly.
Alex was essentially married to this man. A man he was supposed to hate but didn’t. He knew nothing about him except that this wasn’t a mistake. That maybe he was finally making the right choices.
Alex ended up falling asleep. He didn’t know how long. Just that when he woke up, he was covered in clean blankets and Michael was right next to him.

Another gift I made for the Malec Secret Santa 2020, this time for yorit1 on AO3! It was my first time venturing into high school AUs, and it was actually quite fun. I hope you enjoy this goofy and fluffy high school au <3
You can also read this on AO3
--
Alexander Lightwood was different. He was nothing like his brother, Jace who was the star quarterback of the football team and a bit of an egomaniac at times. He wasn’t like his sister, Isabelle who was free-spirited and made a statement with her fashion choices and opinions.
No, Alec was quiet. He tried to take up as little space as possible no matter how much room he was given. Despite his towering stature he tended to hunch unconsciously. Like he was afraid he was always taking up too much room.
But he was stubborn and terse to the majority of people and doted on his family. He stood up for others and advocated for LGBTQ+ rights at school and outside it. He took in those who wormed their way into his heart with nary a thought but kept them away from knowing him besides the front he presented.
He was an array of contradictions that only made him more interesting in Magnus’ eyes.
And he stared. At Magnus. A lot.
Initially, Magnus hadn’t even noticed Alec’s gaze. He’d only realized it when Ragnor and Catarina had brought it to his attention.
“You’re being watched,” Catarina commented offhandedly, taking a bite of her salad.
Magnus smirked. “I’m always being watched,” he purred.
A groan echoed beside him. “I swear, if your head gets any bigger they’ll be no way to hide it,” Ragnor groused.
“I refuse to have this negativity within my eyesight.” Magnus made a shooing gesture. “Remove yourself at once.”
Catarina giggled at their banter before clearing her throat. “I’m being serious, though. You’ve been being watched by mister brooding over there.” She inconspicuously pointed to somewhere diagonally to them.
Not one to shy away from attention, Magnus whipped his head around to try and meet the gaze of his admirer. His eyebrows shot up when he met the gaze of Alexander Lightwood.
Alec seemed to have met his eyes too because his face reddened. The boy gave him a timid wave before ducking his head to gaze at his food, seeming to ignore the other occupants at his table.
Magnus would have continued looking at the bashful boy if his vision wasn’t suddenly obstructed. He squawked and turned a glower to Ragnor. “Are you really trying to cover my face up with a paper bag right now?”
His best friend grinned. “You were staring.”
“He was staring.”
“You wouldn’t have even noticed his staring if Cat hadn’t informed you.”
Conceivably, there was some truth to that. He wasn’t short on admirers so it didn’t surprise him that he hadn’t noticed one person’s attention.
He was curious to see how this would all play out.
It happened at a party.
A Magnus Bane party.
Magnus Bane had risen to popularity with these outlandish parties he threw while his father was away on his business trips. They were grand with drinks flowing in red solo cups and music blasting so loudly that they had the cops called on them more than once.
Magnus could easily party the night away. Immerse himself in the sweaty, hormonally charged throngs of his fellow student body. Ordinarily, he would.
But Alec actually came to this one and that wholly couldn’t be ignored.
The boy still hadn’t acted on what Magnus assumed was attraction to him. He merely continued to covertly admire Magnus from afar. The few times they’d talked, Magnus had reduced the boy to scrambled word-vomit. Alexander was bright red and Magnus was beyond flattered.
Here under the colored lights, the boy was a wallflower if he'd ever seen one. He stuck close to the wall and people watched with a dour expression. Magnus had seen people more excited about midterms than Alexander looked at one of his parties. And that wouldn't do at all.
Optimistically, this conversation would go better than their previous ones.
He saddled up to him with an extra cup of whatever brew Catarina had concocted and a charming smile. "Staying over here all by your lonesome, pretty boy?" Magnus inquired lightly.
Alec lurched beside him and looked at him bug-eyed. "What?" He asked.
"Well, you're denying the party-goers a fine specimen while you hunker to the shadows." Magnus couldn't tell if the boy was blushing with the colored lights gleaming across the room but his expression seemed flattered if not terribly shy.
It was adorable.
"I'm uh—My siblings wanted to come."
Magnus hummed thoughtfully and looked around the room until he spotted Alec's sister dancing amongst the crowd. "Ah, Izzy seems to be having a blast." He turned to Alec with a smirk. "I'm assuming Jace and Clary are making out somewhere around here."
Alec groaned and thumped his head against the wall. "I didn't even want to come." His eyes widened, and he jerked his head back to Magnus with his hands raised. "Not—Not that it isn't a great party because it is uh—everyone loves them and I—" he sighed and shrugged his shoulders, "Parties have never been my scene and it's just easier to stay on the sidelines."
"Perhaps," Magnus conceded, "or maybe you just need to keep trying." He handed the extra drink to him. "Start with something to drink. It'll do wonders to relax those tense shoulders of yours." And what gorgeously broad shoulders they were.
Alec shook his head and pushed the cup away. "Can't, I'm the designated driver."
Magnus arched a brow and poured the new drink into his original cup. "More for me, I suppose." He took a sip, ignoring the fire that licked his throat on the way down. "In the meantime, we might as well see if we can entice you into enjoying the party,” he set the cups down on a random table and held out his hand, “dance with me."
It wasn't a question and Alec recognized that but still, he shook his head. "Unless you want me to accidentally break your toes, I’m gonna… I'll just stay here."
"Pretty boy, I taught Ragnor how to dance." It'd been his own personal hell for half the summer but Ragnor had gotten significantly better at dancing enough so that he didn't look like he was suffering a seizure when the desire to dance struck him. "I'm sure I can teach you something."
Alec swallowed and looked around the room for anything that might help him. "I'm really not a good dancer," Alec insisted even as Magnus started to coax him from the wall. "I'll look stupid which means you'll look stupid."
Magnus waved him off. "Practically everyone looks silly when they dance, so you won't be alone there." He seized Alec’s hand and pulled him away from the wall. “Give it a try for five minutes, and we’ll see how it goes.”
Alec let himself be dragged to the dancefloor with consternation. “Five minutes and that’s it.”
This conversation was going lightyears better than their first few conversations. “If you want to stop, that is.”
He let go of Alec’s hand to grab ahold of Alec’s hips. “We’ll start with a sway, literally everyone can sway,” Magnus instructed as he started to sway his hips with Alec’s. He quickly directed their swaying to match the beat of the music. “See? Just gotta listen to the music; your body should pick up on the beat.”
A nervous laugh bubbled from somewhere in Alec’s throat as he bopped his head. “Yeah—okay, now what?”
“Arms, you don’t want to just flap them about.” You could knock someone out by accident if you did that. “Though if that’s your style, we can work with that.”
Alec raised his arms, shifting them side-to-side like muscled windshield wipers. “This?”
Magnus threw his head back and laughed. “God no, that’s—“ Magnus dissolved into another fit of giggles, waving a hand at Alec, “I’m not laughing at you, I promise. I just—I wasn’t expecting that.”
Alec scowled. “Then show me how to do it,” Alec commanded.
The scowl on the boy’s face resembled more of a pout than anything scary so Magnus figured the boy wasn’t too bothered by his laughter.
“You have to loosen up. You’re too tense!” Magnus ran his hands down Alec’s arms, relishing the shiver that ran through Alec’s body. “Relax your shoulders.”
“They are relaxed.”
He quirked an eyebrow and massaged at Alec’s shoulders feeling the tight muscles jump and release under his ministration. “Darling, I’ve seen assholes looser than your shoulders.”
Alec wheezed, his face twisting up, and squeezed his eyes shut. “That’s—why did you have to say it like that?” Alec groaned with a snort like he couldn’t decide whether to be upset or laugh at Magnus’ comment.
A Cheshire smile spread across his face. “I’m not wrong.”
Alec flushed, his eyes settling everywhere except Magnus’. “Well, I’m relaxed now.”
“Good, now just watch me for a moment.” He winked, biting his lower lip. “Try to keep your gaze virtuous.”
The laughter that tumbled out of Alec was beautiful and something he’d never heard before. His laughter echoed between them, somewhere caught between rough and warm. He’d never heard the boy laugh before.
But he wanted to hear it forever.
Magnus swayed his body, gyrating his hips and moving his hands up his body, letting them move with him. Lidded eyes gazed at Alec who’d stopped dancing altogether and was just staring at him with a familiar intensity.
“Feel free to admire me.”
Alec grinned and shook his head, already miles past his original comfort levels. “Thanks for the consent.” He crossed his arms and gave him a look. “You want a complete too? I feel like your fishing for one.”
“I very much am fishing for compliments,” Magnus said, “I’m just waiting for the hook to pick some up.”
“Normally people don’t admit to fishing for compliments.”
“Normal is subjective, Alexander.” He beckoned Alec over. “Now come join me, let that body talk.”
Alec shook his head again as he walked back over. “You’re so weird.” But his voice was husky belaying his real feelings on Magnus’ behavior. He clumsily joined Magnus and was soon following the beat more or less.
Magnus had thought this would be an innocent folly – just figuring the other boy out – but he found he was having fun. Alec's inexperience and awkwardness were endearing, and Magnus couldn’t turn his gaze away.
And he didn't want to.
He wasn't even sure what it was about Alec that drew him in. Magnus lived for partying, standing out, and being unashamedly himself. He wore glitter and sheer shirts that got him dress coded constantly.
Conversely, Alec was an introvert who orbited around the ones he loved. He'd started an archery club and followed all the school rules to an alarming degree. The only thing Magnus had thought stood out to him about Alec was that he was openly gay.
But just from his interactions with the boy tonight had revealed a hidden charm behind that stoic front. He had a laugh that made Magnus' heart skip a beat. His smile lit up the room way more than the assortment of lights did. He could dance only marginally better than Ragnor could now – which wasn’t saying much – but it made Magnus enjoy dancing with him all the more.
Just these observations made him wonder why he’d never noticed Alexander Lightwood before.
“Penny for your thoughts?” Alec interrupted, nudging him in the side.
Magnus shook his head from his previous thoughts. “My thoughts are worth plenty more than a penny,” Magnus sniffed.
Alec rolled his eyes. “Offer still stands.”
Magnus closed the distance between them. “You surprised me.”
“I surprised you?”
“Don’t sound so shocked.” Magnus put his arms around Alec’s neck and slowed their dancing down to a sweeping sway. “You’re more than I expected when I came over to you.”
Alec frowned. “More...?”
He shook his head. “I mean that in the best of ways,” Magnus reassured. “There’s just something about you, Alexander.”
Alec ducked his head down sheepishly. “There’s uh… something about you too.”
Magnus grinned, running his fingers through the short strands of hair at the back of Alec’s head. “Glad we’re on the same page about that.” He chanced a look around the room his eyes zeroing in on the clock before turning back to Alec who was finally looking at him again. “It’s been more than five minutes, still want me to leave?”
Hands grabbed at his hips as Alec leaned his head closer. “Please stay.”
Any quieter and Magnus would’ve missed Alec’s plea, but his grip on Magnus was telling enough. “Only if you’ll keep dancing with me.” Magnus gave Alec an exaggerated pout.
Alec snorted, shaking his head. “Stop being so cute.”
“Can’t, darling,” Magnus sighed, “it’s a curse.”
At this point, Magnus could feel Alec’s breath against his lips. With each moment his restraint grew smaller and smaller. He doubted Alec would gather the courage to mention his feelings. But he wasn’t going to wait for the other boy to make a move first. “Maybe this is the alcohol talking, but I really want to kiss you right now.”
Alec’s breath hitched, and for a second Magnus thought he’d ruined their moment until Alec let out a pleased sigh. “I – you uh… If I let you kiss me,” he paused to gather his thoughts, “You have to let me take you on a date.”
Magnus’ face lit up. “You wanna take me on a date?”
The tips of Alec’s ears practically glowed. “I’d like to.”
“I think,” Magnus drawled, twirling a piece of Alec’s hair, “that would be more than okay.”
The other boy’s mouth gaped and he seemed caught between awe and joy. Alec pressed their foreheads together. “So do I get that kiss now?”
“That depends.”
“On what?”
Magnus bumps his nose against Alec’s. “How are you feeling about parties now?” Magnus inquired. He genuinely wanted to know if Alec’s opinion had changed.
Alec hummed thoughtfully before shrugging. “I won’t say I like them, but I got to spend time with you.” He brushed his lips against the corner of Magnus’ mouth. “So if you’re there, I can see the appeal.”
“Sweet talker.”
Magnus closed the distance between them. Alec’s lips were dry and deliciously warm against his. Just like his dancing, Alec’s kiss was inexperienced and their teeth clanked together before they got the right angle. Magnus led the kiss, coaxing Alec’s mouth to move with his own. It was hungry and sweet and profoundly earnest.
It was perfect.
Reluctantly Magnus pulled back to let them both breathe. Alec tried to chase his lips for a moment longer, eyes still closed as if he thought he’d open his eyes and Magnus would disappear.  Eventually, Alec did open his eyes, and quiet awe transformed his face.
“Would it be greedy to ask for another?” Alec asked between them, their lips still barely an inch apart.
“Terribly greedy,” Magnus chided with a grin, “But if you take me to that Thai place four blocks from the movie theater I’ll happily give you another.”
Alec laughed, their noses nudging against each other’s. “Promise?”
No answer was needed; his kiss was enough.

Fandom racism anon here and yeah absolutely (I didn't realise I had anon on lol)
Because while LOTR has problems within its themes (ie the orcs can be seen as to be coded as people of colour, especially since they ride elephants) the explicit message of the book is evil bad
Because the only people who work for sauron are evil. There are no morally grey people, they aren't misguided or tricked they just are evil and want to take over the world
And yeah I totally agree that this is more of a literal take on like empirical war (is that the word) and that makes total sense considering Tolkiens history
Whereas I would say that the allegories in shaowhunters is way more based on racial conflict within a country itself especially slavery, I can't remember if this is show Canon but is it that they have the warlock tropheys? I remember that in the books magnus talks about shadowhunters hanging warlock marks on their walls? (sorry to bring the books up)
Idk it's very hollow to me, unlike with LOTR though it's a different allegory it's totally irritating to show many of these supremecists as morally misled. LOTR says bad guys are bad guys, shadowhunters says well yeah they did follow a guy which thinks that downworlders are subhuman and should be eradicated but they just made a mistake
I want to compare this to tfatws which while it isn't really fantasy I just feel like it shows how the priorities of the writer can impact the message of the show so powerfully (I know u aren't up to date so I'm gonna be pretty vague)
There's a scene in tfatws where the new white perfect captain America does something bad and doesn't pay for the consequences - done to comment on white privelege and how America condones white supremacy and how Sam is in comparison to that
Mayrse and Robert revealed to be part of the circle! And paid no consequences Shock horror my parents were the bad guys (even rho they were either implicitly or explicitly extremely racist the entire time) also I haven't finished the seires but do the lightwoods ever try to get their parents to face the consequences?)
Only one actual really critiques the situation and the reality behind it whereas the other one is just to centre the white characters once again and present them in a further sympathetic light
AND ANOTHER THING! I was mostly talking about show Canon here and I'm sorry to bring up the books but I literally can't believe I hadn't picked up in this before.
So like downworlders = people of colour, Simon is a vampire so is coded as a person of colour. However in the books in the last one he stops being a vampire and becomes a shadowhunters instead, coincidentally that's also when he starts dating Izzy HOW IS THIS ABLE TO HAPPEN!!????
I mean I know cassandra clare is lazy right? The original seires is by far the worst of all her writings but come ON!!!!! By the allegory has he become the white man!????? These books made no fuckin sense when I read them at 15 and they make no sense now I'm digressing anyways
I don't know man I wrote this ask because I was trying to find some fantasy book recommendations on booktube and SO MANY of them were about slavery or general ly extrême préjudice with à White protagonist to save this 'poor souls'.
Also I was watching guardians of the galexy the other day and realised nearly every movie set in space is just bigger stakes imperialism - planets instead of countries. Literally star wars, star trek, guardians of the galexy 2, avengers infinity war - all are facing genocidal imperialistic villains without actually paying much, if any attention to those effected
Just writing this ask made me exhausted I'm so tired of lazy writing and exploiting other people's struggle. I'm white and I'm trying to be more critical about the movies, shows and books I watch and read but let me know if I said something off here❤️❤️ you gotta get up to date with tfatws man, Sambucky nation is THRIVING!!!!
i'm not sure i agree that the whole "the evil people are evil" thing is a good thing, because i feel like more often than not making the bad characters just like... unidimensionally evil just means that the reader will be like "lol i could NEVER be that guy" and when it comes to racism that is a dangerous road to take because white people already believe that racism is something that Only The Most Evil People, Ergo, Not Me, Can Do, which makes discussions of stuff like subconscious racial bias and active antiracist work become more difficult because people don't believe they CAN be racist unless they're like, Lord Voldemort
which is not to say that racism should be treated as morally ambiguous, just that the workings of racism should be represented as something that is not done only by the Most Hardcore And Evil, but rather as a part of a system of oppression that affects the way everyone sees the world and interacts with it and lives in it
yes the warlock trophies are mentioned in the show, albeit very quickly (there is a circle member who tells magnus that his cat eyes will make "a nice addition to his collection" and then it's never mentioned again because this is sh and we love using racism for shock value but then not actually treating it as a serious plot point or something that affects oppressed ppl). and you are absolutely right, shadowhunters (and hp, and most fantasy books) has genocide as its core conflict and treats it, like you said, in a very hollow way, treating racism as both not a big deal and not something that is part of a system of oppression, but really the actions of a few Very Bad People. it's almost impressive how they manage to do both at the same time tbh
i think you hit the nail right on the head with this comment, actually. for most of these works, racism is SHOCK VALUE. it's just like "lol isn't it bad that this bad guy wants to kill a gazillion people just because they are muggles? now that is fucked up" but it's not actually an issue. in fact, when this guy is defeated, the whole problem is over! racism is not something that is embedded into that world, it's not a systemic issue, it's not even actually part of what drives the plot. the things that led to this person not only existing but rising to power and gathering enough followers to be a real threat to the whole world are never mentioned. it's like racists are born out of thin air, which is dangerously close to implying that racism is just a natural part of life, tbh
anyway my point is, it is never supposed to be questioned, it is never part of a deeper plot or story, its implications are barely addressed except for a few fleeting comments them and there; so, it's not a critique, it's shock value, even though it is frequently disguised as a critique (which is always empty and shallow anyway. like what is the REAL critique in works like hp or sh/tsc other than "genocide is bad"? wow such a groundbreaking take evelyn)
about simon and the book thing: i actually knew about this and the weird thing about this is that, like... simon is jewish, and he's implied to be ashkenazi (calls his grandma bubbe which is yiddish, which is a language spoken by the ashkenazi ppl), and it seems like cc is always toeing the line between him being accepted by shadowhunters and then not accepted by them, which sounds a lot like antisemitic tropes and history of swinging between (ashkenazi) jewish ppl being seen as the model minority myth and thus used as an example by white christians, and being hated and persecuted. i'm not super qualified to talk about this since i'm not jewish and i'm still learning about/unlearning antisemitism and its tropes, and i don't really have a fully formed thought on that, tbh; it just reminds me of the whole "model minority" swinging, where one second simon is part of the majority, the other he's not, but always he is supposed to give up a part of himself and his identity in other to be "assimilated" by shadowhunter culture. this article (link) covers a book on jewish people and assimilationism into USan culture, this article (link) covers british jews' relationship with being considered an ethnic group, and this article (link) talks a bit about the model minority myth from the perspective of an asian jewish woman
it just really calls to my attention that cc chose to make her ashkenazi jewish character start off as a downworlder and then become a shadowhunter. i don't think she made that decision as a conscious nod to this history, because it would require being informed on antisemitism lol but it's incredible how you can always see bigoted stereotypes shining through her narrative choices completely by accident. it just really shows how ingrained it is in our collective minds and culture
and anyway, making a character go from the oppressed group to just suddenly become the oppressor is just. wtf. not how oppression works, but most of all, really disrespectful, especially because she clearly treats it as an "upgrade"/"glowup" that earns him the Love Of His Life
also, out of curiosity, are you french? it seems like your autocorrect changed a few words and i'm pretty sure extrême and préjudice are the french versions of these words, and since u said ur white, that's where my money would be lol

I Caught You Staring (And Now I Can't Look Away)

WIP Title Game
rules: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. send me an ask with the title that most intrigues you and i’ll post a little snippet of it or tell you something about it!
tagged by @northern-serpent
tagging @deargrilledcheesusyouredelicious & @halcooper (I apologize if either of you have done this already.)
I don’t think I have too, too many WIP’s but we shall see.
In order of most recently modified:
Illicit Affairs- AU mini fic, in which FP and Alice have never met before and he starts working at the same law firm as her. She hates him at first but soon realizes, maybe he’s not all that bad.
Two Pink Lines- the current fic im working on, only two chapters left in it. Set in season 3 but, (for the most-part), not canon compliant, Alice and FP have started up an secret relationship, and Alice accidentally gets pregnant. FP winds up in jail because he was framed for a crime he didn’t commit... or did he?
How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days- based off the movie, I was on a major roll with it but I just need to rewatch the movie to remember all the sabotages they do and I just don’t want to right now lol.
Chaperones- a oneshot taking place in my Northside Diaries series where Alice and FP are chaperones on Betty and Jughead’s school trip, all the while they’re secretly having an affair.
Don’t have a title for this one yet- I think it’s going to be a non-fanfiction story (shocking, I know), but I also could make it Falice? I don’t know I kinda wanna explore doing some original work, because I used to love doing that. Anyway, premise is, single mom, two young kids (I’m thinking daughters?), her daughters call the fire department because they got their kite stuck in a tree. And some sparks fly (ha, get it?) when the mom and the firefighter who answered the call, meet. But is she ready to date again?
How To Save a Life- I have absolutely nothing written for this, but it’s going to be based off the Denny & Izzy storyline from season 2 of Greys Anatomy.
Safe Haven- based off the movie. I had this idea of doing a series called “Falice Film Festival”, where I took famous movies and popped Falice into the starring roles, which is why there are so many movie inspired fics on this list.
Speaking of fics inspired by movies, I also had a “The Vow” esque Oneshot, and a “Dirty Dancing” au. The latter of which has nothing but the first one has a quote.
You and Me- All the times FP and Alice hooked up through the years. (It’s softer than it sounds lol.)
Rivermom’s Sex and The City- I don’t know what I have planned for this and I don’t know if I’ll write it but it just came to me when bringing SATC, and I thought it would be fun to see the Riverdale mom’s in that show. (And by the way here’s how I see them: Alice- Samantha, Mary- Miranda, Hermione- Carrie, Sierra- Charlotte.)
Here You Come Again (Again)- this isn’t what it will be called, I just don’t have another idea for a title yet. But it’s a sequel to my oneshot Here You Come Again, which accounts the events leading up to season 1 in my own personal canon. This one would focus on the events of season 1 (and possibly 2), and what happened in the scenes we didn’t see, like Alice dealing with the news of FP getting arrested, the Chic situation, and ya da ya da.
Baby Blue- Oh I have such a soft spot for this one I’m just completely stumped with it and haven’t touched it since March. It focuses on Alice’s life up until season 1 (y’all seeing a theme here?), and shows all the things that have lead up to her being the cold, closed off woman we met in season 1.
Parentdale- a script I’m writing because I want a Parentdale spin-off.
Curtain Call- famous Falice au fic! FP is a famous singer and runs into Alice at a cafe. She’s a songwriter and an up-and-coming musician, and the two of them embark on tour together.
Just Friends- Teen Falice fic that I think will be posted after I finish Illicit Affairs (mentioned above). Honestly just wanted another excuse to write a Fred and Alice friendship and I got a fun little idea for a fic, so stay tuned for that!
Who’s The Boss- based off the tv show Who’s The Boss, because I just thought it would be kinda fun. Might be a fic, might just be a long Oneshot, haven’t decided. I wrote the idea down last October though lol.
Jurassic Park 3 Inspired- I completely forgot I wrote this down and I genuinely do not think I will write it haha. It would of taken the general plot from Jurassic Park 3 (separated couple’s son goes missing, said couple goes to find him, fall back in love along the way), just minus the dinosaurs.
Bury The Evidence- I also forgot I wrote this idea down, but it’s a fun one. Falice have never met before, FP has just joined the Serpents and heads to the Wyrm to pick up his Serpent jacket. He runs into Alice, the girlfriend of the gang’s leader and hears strange noises coming from the office she was just in. When he walks in, he finds her standing over the gang leader’s body. And well... they’ve gotta bury the evidence.
Home- this one is one I’m just not sure about posting? FP moves to Riverdale after being discharged from the military. He instantly falls for his pretty blonde neighbour, but he suffers from PTSD and doesn’t want to let her into his life in fear of hurting her. Heavily inspired by the Owen and Cristina storyline in Greys Anatomy, but you know, not as toxic.
How It Began- A teen Parentdale fic I started years ago and have left untouched. I’ve gotten lots of comments wanting me to update but I just don’t like where I’ve taken the story so I think updating would entail a rewrite of the last chunk of chapters. Maybe some day though.
Ok so I definitely had more than I thought. Someone kick my butt and tell me to finish these because I forgot about most of them.

Second Chances at First Impressions
(Read on AO3) Square Filled: First Date // Ship: Clace // Rating: General // Tags: Christmas fluff, first dates, holidays, Post-Canon Summary:   Not wanting Clary to be left alone for the holiday, Jace invites her to spend it with his family - and Clary feels right at home though she doesn't know why her time with the Lightwoods feels so natural. Created for @shadowhunterbingo
It’s a dating auction for charity, but with a twist: several of the art classes at the local college are auctioning off paintings - and whoever wins the painting also wins a coffee ‘date’ with the artist after the auction. Obviously, as no genders or appearances will be known, it’s set up as less of a date-date and more of a chance to meet and talk with someone new.
Jace has no way of knowing whether Clary’s even going to participate, but he’s willing to gamble on yes as he situates himself in the audience looking spectacularly out of place for an art auction in his ripped jeans and leather jacket.  Clary’s never turned down the chance to help people, he can’t imagine she’d stop now.
He’s right. The moment the 9th painting is brought out he knows that it’s hers - he’s been going to her exhibits, watching the evolution of her work. He may not know much about art in general but he knows a lot about Clary’s art - her use of colors to give hints at scenes just beyond the canvas, the way the brush strokes grow thicker and the colors more prominent where her emotions take over and she gets a little too into the work, a little too heavy-handed.
He wins the auction after a very strenuous back-and-forth with a middle-aged woman, and has to act surprised when he’s brought over to ‘meet’ the artist.
“You again!” Clary says, smiling. “Jace, right?”
“You remembered, I’m touched,” Jace says, smiling with just the right amount of teasing.
“Yeah, well, it isn’t often someone runs away from me at my own exhibition,” Clary points out, joking just as easily.
“No running away this time, you’re stuck with me for an entire coffee,” Jace promises, motioning for her to lead the way out. “Java Jones?”
“That’s my favorite! How did you know?” Clary asks.
“I didn’t. That just happens to be my favorite,” he covers quickly.
“Huh,” Clary muses, but doesn’t comment on it any further than that. Instead they chat, about the crazy up and down temperatures lately, about Clary’s classes, about Jace’s work. He freezes for only a second before deciding on a whim to say it’s training in, and teaching, various forms of martial arts... which isn’t entirely off base.
Soon they start talking about Clary’s artwork, and once Clary starts she doesn’t stop. Jace listens with his entire focus on her, asking questions and commenting here and there. He starts one too many sentences with “This girl I knew used to-” for everything he has to add, because everything he knows about art he learned from watching her during her time at the Institute, not that he can tell her that.
The hour they’re scheduled for flies by, and the next thing they know it’s been two hours, three drink refills, and they’re still talking when the barrista comes around to warn them they’re about to close.
“Oh my goodness,” Clary says, looking at the clock on the wall. “I can’t believe I kept you here so long, I didn’t realize how late it was!”
Jace smiles and shakes his head. “I wasn’t exactly trying to leave, you know,” he points out.
And it’s true. Even without having the Shadow World to talk about, it’s like falling back into stride with an old friend talking with Clary, where everything is so much easier than he ever expected. It’s a blessing and a curse because as nice as their conversation was he knows this is only for the night, and once he walks out of here she’ll probably never speak to him again.
“I think I’m just starved for company this week. Everyone else went home for break, I think I’m the only one left on campus,” she says, trying to laugh off the statement though he can tell she’s at least a little bothered by it.
He almost asks why she stayed behind when he remembers - she doesn’t have anywhere else to go for the holidays.
His heart breaks, and before he can think twice the words are tumbling out of his mouth.
“Why don’t you spend Christmas with me?”
“What?” Clary asks, clearly surprised by the offer.
“I mean, not just me. My family. It isn’t anything big but you’re more than welcome. What’s that saying? There’s always room for one more?” Jace ignores the voice in the back of his head telling him how terrible of an idea this is, especially when he catches the hint of
“I couldn’t. I barely know you-” Clary starts, but Jace cuts her off before she can completely turn the offer down.
“Really, it wouldn’t be a problem at all. My mom always makes way too much food, and my brother’s husband makes the most amazing cocktails. And I have this feeling you’ll get along really well with all of them. In fact, right now I’m the only one not bringing someone along, so you’d be doing me a favor.” Jace pauses, realizing how that might sound. “Just as friends. And if you hate it you can turn around and leave. What do you have to lose?”
He knows he might be trying a little too hard to get her to agree, but he can’t imagine a scenario where he walks away from her right now to leave her entirely alone for the next two days heating up Christmas dinner in a dorm microwave, or eating alone at a diner.
Clary considers the offer for a very long minute or two before sighing. “I guess it couldn’t hurt. But if it’s awkward you have to cover for me leaving early.” “Deal,” Jace agrees immediately, pulling out his phone. “Give me your number and I’ll text you the address.”
She does, putting her name in as ‘Clary’ with a little paintbrush icon. Jace immediately sends her a text with Maryse’s address.
“I’ll see you then,” he says, resisting the urge to hug her goodbye. He doesn’t want to push his luck, and he wants to make sure she’s comfortable enough to follow through on the offer in two days.
To his surprise, Clary’s the one who takes one step to leave, stops, and turns back to wrap her arms around his middle for just a few seconds.
“Thank you, Jace,” she says as she pulls away, and this time doesn’t look back.
---
They do breakfast and presents with Simon and Luke who both leave before Clary is due to arrive. As far as Jace could figure out from his time with Clary, her memories of the two of them were altered in a way similar to Simon’s mother’s, so it wouldn’t do to have her completely blindsided walking into a room with the two of them. It’s enough of a risk with the rest of the Lightwoods and Lightwood-Banes - something Alec brings up one last time.
“Are you sure this is a good idea?” Alec asks.
“It’ll be fine. We just can’t let the wrong things slip out… we did it once before, you all managed that dinner with Charlie,” Izzy reminds him.
“Does Clary think we’re jewelers too, then?” Alec asks with a slight smirk.
“You can do whatever you want. I’m a martial arts instructor,” Jace reminds him.
“Of course you are, blondie,” Magnus says, walking over with a drink in hand. “But Isabelle’s right. I’m sure we’ll be fine.” He doesn’t bring back up the contingency plan of being able to wipe this day from her mind and send her on her way if it backfires spectacularly, because Jace hates the idea and only bristles and insists they won’t need that.
“Better than leaving the poor girl alone for the holidays,” Maryse agrees.
“She might not even show. I mean, it’s a weird offer from a guy she only spoke to twice,” Jace points out. And when it hits ten, and then twenty minutes past the point Jace told Clary to come over they’re pretty sure she decided just that.
Until the doorbell rings.
Jace goes to answer it, beaming when he sees Clary in the hallway holding up a bottle of wine.
“Happy Holidays,” she says. “I hope this is alright. I didn’t want to bring nothing, but I didn’t know what anyone liked…”
“It’s lovely,” Maryse says, coming up behind Jace. “Come inside, take your coat off, dear. I’m Maryse, by the way. We’re so glad you decided to come.”
“Thank you for having me,” Clary says. “I’m Clary.”
Jace watches Clary’s eyes dart around the room, taking in the number of people she doesn’t know and swallowing back a moment of nervousness. Jace wonders if maybe this is too much for her - perhaps he should’ve arranged to do something with just her rather than expose her to all of the Lightwoods all at once.
But a moment later Izzy is bounding over with a bright smile. “I’m Izzy! So glad you could make it! I’m tired of being outnumbered by all the guys here,” she whispers conspiratorially to Clary who laughs and allows herself to be led off to grab a drink.
It’s roughly half an hour later, with Izzy making her way quickly across the living room to grab something from her bag, when Maryse says, “I don’t know how you manage those heels on this carpeting.”
“There’s nothing she can’t do in heels,” Clary chimes in, and Izzy and Jace share a look. Clary doesn’t even seem to realize she said it, turning right back to whatever she’d been discussing previously.
It isn’t the only time it happens, either. Magnus calls her ‘Biscuit’ and Clary only smiles and says, “It’s been a while since anyone called me that.” Another time she brings up archery to Alec.
“How did you know I shoot?” Alec asks slowly, eyebrow raised.
“What? Oh. Jace must’ve mentioned it over coffee,” Clary says with a shrug. Alec looks over at Jace who only shakes his head slowly.
Jace isn’t sure if it’s good or bad that Clary remembers more about them than just his name, but he’s certain that she has no idea she’s even doing it. Dinner is full of laughter and stories with just as much attention paid to Clary as to anyone else at the table, possibly more so as everyone - even Alec - goes out of their way to make sure she’s comfortable. They sit next to one another at the table, and more than once he catches himself getting lost watching her laugh over something Magnus said or blush over a compliment from Izzy. He also catches her staring at him a few times, too, though she’s always quick to look away once he does.
Refusing to get his hopes up Jace does his best not to read into those little moments. He did invite her here as just friends, after all, and he’s sticking to it - if he can keep Clary in his life, even just as a casual acquaintance, it’s better than the total lack of her he suffered the past year. It’d have to be enough, and he’s determined not to scare her away and ruin even that.
“I hope I didn’t impose too much,” Clary says at the end of the night.
“Not at all, Clary,” Maryse promises.
“In fact, we lost a good friend last year who you remind me a lot of… it was nice to have that energy around again,” Magnus adds, earning himself a warning glare from Alec which he pretends not to see.
“Oh, and it’s started to snow! ” Izzy announces from the window, turning around with a smile before Clary can read too much into Magnus’ comment and before the mood grows too somber. “We haven’t had a white Christmas since we were kids!”
“Let me walk you back,” Jace offers, and Clary looks like she might argue for just a moment before giving him a small nod.
“Alright,” she agrees, grabbing her coat and saying quick round of goodbyes to everyone before the two of them are out the door and on the snowy street below. It takes every bit of restraint Jace has within himself to not reach over to grab her hand as they walk, or move closer as they walk. He misses this.
“I know I said it before, but thank you again for inviting me. Everyone was so welcoming, and honestly? I felt so comfortable around your family, like I’ve known them for months, not hours.” Clary says with a happy sigh.
“Yeah, I know the feeling,” Jace says.
Once they’re back at Clary’s dorm Jace hesitates. There’s so much he wants to say but he’s afraid of scaring her away, of being too much too soon, that he’ll come across as too eager to have her back in his life for someone who should, as far as she knows, barely know her.
Before he can say anything, still trying to figure out how to ask to see her again as casually as possible, Clary speaks first.
“I know you said this was just as friends,” Clary says, carefully avoiding his gaze as she talks. “But… I wouldn’t mind if it was more. Unless I’m totally misreading this and you were just being nice, which is totally fine-”
“Do I get to answer?” Jace cuts her off, unable to keep the smirk from his face. “Because I think this was a perfect first date.”
Clary relaxes at his words, smiling back. “Me too. Well, almost perfect,” she adds, taking a step closer to him.
Jace closes the rest of the distance between them, their lips meeting amidst a flurry of snowflakes. There’s an immediate warmth between them, the spark of a connection that’s still there. He doesn’t have to wonder if Clary can feel it too - he feels her gasp against his lips at the spark between them, so intense it’s palpable, just like that moment in the alley the night of her exhibit.
“What-” she starts, but the words trail off. He knows she can feel it, their past just beneath the surface, but not enough to put words to it. Instead she falls contemplatively silent again instead.
“Setting the bar pretty high for a first date, aren’t we?” Jace observes.
“I don’t think it’ll be a problem,” Clary counters, leaning up for another kiss, this time bringing her arms around his waist to pull him closer. “After all, this wasn’t even supposed to be a date - we weren’t even trying.”
“Speak for yourself,” Jace says with a huff, and finds himself rewarded with a laugh Clary tries, and fails, to hide behind the hand she brings up to her mouth. “But you’re right. With a little planning I think I can arrange for us to go ice skating next time.”
“I used to ice skate all the time when I was little,” Clary says with a soft smile. “I haven’t been in years, though. I’d love that.”
It’s obvious neither of them want to be the one to walk away first but as the snow continues to fall and the temperature drops they finally part ways with the promise to make plans again soon.
Jace’s phone buzzes almost as soon as the door shuts behind Clary.
Clary: Too soon to make those plans?
And with a smile he wastes no time in replying:
Jace: Free tomorrow?
He already knows so much about her he doesn’t like lying to go along with this ‘first date’ label, acting like he doesn’t love her with everything he has and then some, but it isn’t like he can tell her. All he can do is start over and hope the pieces fall into place the way they’re meant to - the way they did once before and hopefully will again. Angels be damned, Jace thought their happy ending was lost forever, but now?
Now that he has his second chance he isn’t going to let another second go by without Clary in his life.

Preparations || Scene at Atlas Manor
News of the Atlas family’s visit had reached the staff in record time. It seemed like every single one of the maids, landscapers, and even their part-time chauffer knew by the time Hamilton had returned to the kitchen with the tea tray.
Even so, they all pounced on him the moment they saw him to confirm.
“Is it true?” Mira had asked. “Is his brother’s family really coming to stay?”
Hamilton had sighed his long-suffering sigh and nodded. “Yes, they’re coming for a week. And don’t ask me for any more details because I don’t know them.”
“They’re staying here?” The shock was evident in Elsie’s voice. “Has that ever happened before?”
Mira shook her head. “The brother’s only come over for short visits, never overnight. Never for multiple days.”
“And he agreed? Lydia said the brother-in-law’s visit was—”
“All right, that’s enough for now,” Hamilton interrupted, giving them both a look. “Since you’re both here, please air out two guest rooms in the east wing and make note of what is needed for the bathrooms. I’m going to call Ramsay.”
“Is he going to--?”
“Rohan’s room, too. Now, please.”
Over the next few days, the household became a flurry of activity. Everything inside and out was cleaned from top to bottom in preparation for the impending visit.
Dishes and silverware were changed out, rugs cleaned, fresh curtains placed on the windows. Every surface and piece of silverware had been polished to a gleam, every vase and mirror made to sparkle. Chandeliers were ruthlessly dusted and every candleholder given a fresh candle.
Outside, shrubbery was trimmed and tamed, flowers deadheaded, and the lawn meticulously mowed. Any weeds that had the audacity to spring were immediately pulled and not a speck of algae was allowed to gather on the fountains.
And there was still so much to do.
Early on a cloudy morning just a couple of days before Xavier’s family was set to arrive, Hamilton gathered his staff at the kitchen table for a meeting. All week he’d been carrying around a clipboard with a list of everything that needed to get done and as everyone had their breakfast, it remained glued to his hand.
“Lydia, did the mattresses for the children’s beds arrive yesterday?”
She nodded. “Yes.”
“And the bedclothes?”
“Yes. Two mattress covers, two sets of sheets, and two duvet sets. Josie will have them made up this morning.”
“Which pattern did you pick?” Isabel asked, sipping her coffee.
“Baby green for the sheets and the watercolor swirls for the duvets.”
“Cuuute! I’m sure the kids will like them.”
Hamilton smiled and checked that off his list. “Good, thank you. Josie, I’m going to have you attend to the children’s room during the visit and Isabel, you’ll attend to the parents’ room. Turndowns every night and flower changes every other day.”
Josephine and Isabel nodded.
“Oh, a shatterproof vase for the children if you could, please, Lydia. Just to be on the safe side. I think the one in Devlin’s room has a mate.”
“It does,” she said, making a note in her own little notepad.
He checked another thing off his list. “Elsie, how are the bathrooms?”
“Clean and ready. Oh, and I got towels with green trim for the kiddies to match their sheets.”
“Bath products?”
“Fully stocked.”
More ticks off the list. “Good, good. That was all that was left for the rooms and bathrooms. Rohan is going to finish up in the library today and then move on to the other tasks Xavier assigned him.” Namely putting an extra series of wards and spells on the house.
“What’s he even doing in there?”
Hamilton turned to the only other man in the room, who just now happened to be lounging on two of the barstools with his mouth full of pastry.
“Moving the magical books and artifacts into storage.”
Ramsay took another bite of danish. “Why, so his brother doesn’t use them?”
“Irrelevant. What about you, did you get the car detailed?”
“Yep, it’s shiny as a new penny.”
Another tick. “Thank you. When the family arrives you’re to meet them at the gate and drive them down and you are not to make a single remark, speak out of turn, or ask a single inappropriate question. Do you understand?”
Ramsay gave Hamilton a sarcastic salute. “Aye, cap’n.”
“I mean it, John. And formal terms of address only. That goes for all of you,” he added to the maids. “Devlin is Master Devlin, Theo is Mr. Brandr, and Xavier is Lord Blackthorne. From experience, I can tell you there will be rolled eyes and maybe even a comment or two but you’re to ignore them. It’s very important that this household runs the way Xavier likes it to run while his family is here. Is that understood?”
A wave of nods and a chorus of ‘Yes, Hamilton’s answered his question.
“Is he still in a bad mood?” Rita dared to ask after a moment.
“It’s getting worse,” Christine said softly. “Only around us and Rohan though. In front of Devy and Mr. Brandr he’s all smiles.”
Josie shook her head. “Trying to be, you mean. He’s so tightly wound he’s about to snap. That flameproof spell he had Rohan do the other day was so strong you couldn’t even light a candle. Does he really think his brother is going to burn the house down again?”
“I don’t think so,” Mira chimed in. “I think it’s just nerves and tension. I’m pretty sure his brother wouldn’t bring his family here just to commit arson. Or commit arson in a house full of people. All the spells are just his anxiety needing some kind of release.”
“Is this really that big a deal?” Ramsay hopped off his stool to serve himself more coffee. “You’re all talking about this bloody visit like it’s D Day. People visit their relations all the time and the world doesn’t end!”
“Normal people visit their relations all the time,” Mira shot back. “This isn’t a normal family and they don’t get along like a normal family.”
Lydia sighed. “I still remember that phone call the day his brother-in-law came to tea. It was awful. He didn’t come out of his study for days.”
“Just because that was awful doesn’t mean this is going to be awful,” Isabel said hopefully. “There’s buffer this time. Mr. Brandr and Rohan are going to be here, and the children. The children are why he agreed to the visit, right?”
Hamilton nodded and smiled. “Right, Izzie. Xavier may be in a mood, but he’s been in them before, and no one in this house has ever suffered because of it. As long as we all do what we’re supposed to do, everything will be fine. Now, that’s enough gossip and speculation.”
He set his clipboard aside. “The extra four people being in residence means no days off next week and longer hours, but everyone is going to be getting paid double to make up for it. Everyone is also getting new uniforms, which should be here the day after tomorrow. And Ramsay you will be wearing yours or there will be hell to pay.”
Ramsay’s “Uggggghhhhhhhhhh……….” was met with laughter from everyone but Hamilton.
“I don’t want to hear it. Finish that danish and go make yourself useful, you have rooms to magically soundproof.”
“Me? I thought Ro was doing that.”
“He’s taking care of the other magical things that need doing.”
“Fiiiiiiiiiiiine. Why am I soundproofing anyway? So Xavier doesn’t hear his brother shagg—”
“Inappropriate. Go.”
“Fine, fine. Not like anyone really shags when they’re visiting fam—”
“Now, John!”
Ramsay finally went, leaving Hamilton shaking his head and the maids trying to stifle giggles.
“Right. Christine, Xavier wants to talk to you after breakfast in the wine cellar to finalize the menus for next week and choose wines.”
The chef nodded. “Okay, no problem. Did you ask him about mealtimes?”
“Yyyyes…yes. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and tea at the usual times, unless a change is needed. How much of the shopping do you think you’ll be able to do before next week?”
“I should be able to do most of it. What’s my budget?”
“Carte blanche.”
“Sweet.”
“Take Rita with you when you go.”
He finished going over his list with the maids, ticking things off and getting status reports over the ones he didn’t. The house was going to be a marvel by the time they finished preparing.

Rev Recaps Hard Contact (Chapter 16)
After last chapter, I had two glasses of moscato, so we’ll see how this goes.
CW: repeated mentions of rotting animal corpses/smell, characters getting covered in sewage (again), claustrophobia, mind influence
TL;DR Recap: Atin and Darman go through the gdan warrens into Uthan’s facility and discover they’re claustrophobic. Niner blows up the villa to cover the explosives Darman is using to enter the facility, and Majestic bombs some droids from orbit. Etain tries her best to be helpful. The blogger makes fun of both Atin and Dar for their explosives use. Atin and Dar find Uthan.
Beginning Kal Count: 30 Ending Kal Count: 32
So we’re gonna open up in Darman’s point of view.
Tumblr media
I don’t know shit about guns. I live in Texas, but have never held, much less shot one. Does this mean that Atin has his finger on the trigger or is holding it just above it in the little circle thingy?
Also, Darman, sweetheart. Being the bomb factory does not stop you from blowing up. Just saying.
Tumblr media
Kal Count is upped to 31, but mainly I just kinda love this quote. If you’ve read Triple Zero, then you may join me in the delicious irony of them wanting black armor this entire mission for disguise purposes only to finally get it right before a mission to Fest. Thus proving Atin’s point above. Anyway Jinart is sniffing echolocating her way along ahead of them, and eventually comes to a stop and points out the entrance to the gdan tunnels. They need to crawl through the warrens in order to capture Uthan inside the facility... so of course this is the moment that Atin and Dar both find out that they’re claustrophobic:
Tumblr media
I’m not even claustrophobic, and it sounds miserable to me, to be quite honest. But, on a more... pointed, note. Izzy has already explained much more fluently than me how much this scene means Kal is an absolute shit planner. Because Kal built a home on Mandalore that was supposed to be a safe haven for any clone deserters who wanted to become Mandalorian in True Colors/Order 66... but Kyrimorut was built  at least partially underground and partially uses underground tunnels both as exits and as connections.
I’m just saying, as we go through this chapter... we’re gonna see why that might be an issue. But first-
Tumblr media
Listen, I may hate Jinart, but this scene makes me laugh pretty much every time. Every time. No inspirational metaphors for Atin, and Jinart is 100% scowling at him.
They continue on through the tunnels, and honestly the details get gross. Not just in the typical “fantasy escape through sewers trope” kind of way, but Darman smells something rotten that reminds him of bodies and Geonosis, so on top of his dizziness from the claustrophobia, he now has nausea, as does Atin. They ask Jinart about it and her first reply misses the point:
Tumblr media
Listen, my guy tells me this is some sort of health code violaton, but I know fuck all about plumbing. And no, that is not all they can smell, but Jinart apparently doesn’t notice the smell of decomposition until it’s pointed out to her. Jinart eventually realizes what they’re talking about and assures them that it’s from the gdan’s prey. Darman feels relieved for at least a moment (that stops when he sticks his hands in entrails) but I’d just like to point out that the gdan, while primarily hunting merlies, have tried to eat our human protagonists literally every time they step foot outside. Anyway, Darman puts his hand in entrails, has a flashback of Skirata running next to him in something called the “sickener” which was essentially training in a pit full of nerf entrails, and struggles not to throw up in his sealed helmet. Joyful.
Kal Count is now 32.
Eventually they reach a larger chamber where Dar and Atin start digging out their tunnel to the pipes under the facility and Jinart leaves them to go back to Niner after Dar sends her away. Darman notes that it would only take one or two shots from the rifle to clear, but that would bring the roof AND  a bunch of droids on top of them, so he and Atin keep working and sweating like pigs.Once they dig close enough, Darman uses their battering ram to break into the drain, and is promptly covered in a spray of shit from the pipes. This sends both him and Atin into hysterics, because again, they’re both not doing well in the confined space and are exhausted.
Tumblr media
“Darman had never even seen the man smile.” And the first time is when Darman is covered in shit from a sewer pipe. Darman comms Niner to tell him they’re almost through, and the scene switches to Niner’s point of view.
Dar explains that they’re stuck at a filter in the pipe that will have to be blown open with explosives because it’s permacreted in. Darman asks for two minutes to set the charge, and Niner worries the entire time. He, Fi, and Etain don’t have anything to do yet, but he’s worried for Dar and Atin.
Tumblr media
Niner is literally counting seconds and dealing with anxiety, Fi is calmly waiting with the cannon... and Etain is pacing. This is her nervous habit. Like, I had already headcanoned that, but it’s nice to be confirmed by canon. Even if Niner wants to chastise her for it and can’t.
Tumblr media
Man, he’s literally counting the seconds. Etain is the queen of asking well-intentioned but awkward as hell questions, and I’m pretty sure the lack of “ma’am” is the closest Niner is every going to get to saying “fuck you”. I could definitely live without yet another mention of mind influence, but as I say, addressed in Triple Zero... and at least Niner’s not nauseated anymore I guess?
They blow the filter on the facility and the bombs in the villa at the same time to disguise Atin and Darman’s entrance. Droids start coming out of the facility, which is disguised with a barn, to investigate, but Niner orders Fi & the E-Web to wait and tries to dismiss Etain/get her out of the way.
Tumblr media
Etain is already not content with her Trandoshan shotgun array blaster or Traviss has forgotten she has it, which isn’t unlikely. She wants the concussion rifle instead (looking at it “longingly” already!), and she wants a job to do.
Niner gives Fi the go ahead, so he opens up with the E-Web (which again a literal, actual cannon) and starts firing, with Niner assisting via grenades. The entire time, they’re being rained on with “hot, metal shrapnel”.  But the droids stop advancing. so then Niner asks Majestic to bomb them from orbit if the droids start headed towards them from another direction.
Tumblr media
Other than Fi’s comment, I’m not particularly sure why Niner expects Etain to be “in distress”. Or how he missed the fact that he was almost decapitated by shrapnel until Etain deflected it. Ngl it took me several readings of this scene to even parse the exact sequence of events. BUT it is nice for Etain to finally, actually get to be useful to Niner and Fi and do Jedi things without everyone including her beating her up about her weakness.
The scene cuts back to Niner & Dar, who have successfully made it in to Uthan’s facility:
Tumblr media
Apparently if you leave Darman and Atin alone together without Niner or some other regulating force, you just get unending sass.
Dar has no idea what’s dangerous and what isn’t, so they decide to just explode everything, to be on the safe side. They make it through the inner chamber and are approaching the front of the complex, but haven’t seen anything yet. Majestic is bombing things outside. Dar is literally sticking high-burning explosives to everything he can.
Tumblr media
“Disappointingly small” Darman please.
Darman. Why are you opening the potential virus box, Darman.
You can’t set in NEXT to the potential virus box? Like the box is somehow gonna withstand that charge?
Tumblr media
Yes, Atin, the fridge door is going to withstand the military grade explosives.
Anyway, Atin uses a mini emp to partially unseal a containment door, which is useful and also will later screw them over. It raises just enough for Dar to wedge something under it and the two of them the muscle it open, and then they start the “house clearing” portion of the op, headed into the part of the facility that’s actually inhabited. Droids and Separatists pin them down, so they comm to Fi & Niner. Then things get worse as they’re pinned in place by bulkheads.
Tumblr media
So things are not looking great. They’re trapped by bulkheads, surrounded by Seps on the other side of those bulk heads, they no longer have access to their explosives.
Except.
Tumblr media
I had to google what “half look different” meant. Like, I was pretty sure it meant “really” but I had to use google to confirm. Provided the British don’t also use a different connotation of “amazing” when using it in slang though... Atin likes Uthan’s hair?
Anyway, they found the mad scientist trying to kill them, and she’s armed and trapped in a confined space with them, so we hit a pretty good cliffhanger here, or would’ve if this were an episode and not a chapter.

Note
personally, i’ve always found navigating shadow world politics more intriguing than saving the world as a co-product of the never ending morgenstern family drama anyway. so, i’m not upset about alec being denied ‘action-y, heroic storylines’. punching things is not the only way to save the day (izzy and her HF arc when she employs wit, cunning, persuasion, and, yes, empathy is a great example). what I am disappointed about is that he doesn’t really get to ‘save the day’ using p1
The above is the first of seven asks this anon sent to me. The rest and my reply are under the cut.
tl;dr More discourse on Alec and the narrative value of violence. Spoilers: I’m getting a bit tired here.
‘soft power, of diplomacy, or cunning and empathy to achieve ends and resolve plot’. if the point of alec’s narrative is that violence is not the universal problem-solving mechanic, shouldn’t we see him succeeding through other means even like occasionally? but what we see is alec making bad choices most of the time or doing nothing. you can’t have a character who is supposed to lead and negotiate and show him incompetent at his job (and I’m not even talking about trivialities like alec p2
getting his ass handed to him by everyone and their mother for plot convenience). i realize it’s a complex situation. the writing wasn't sh strongest suit (+ the showrunners were complicit in homophobia) in general and the source material is no help ESPECIALLY when it comes to alec. also it wasn't always the worst (tm) and i appreciated their idea to make alec hoti instead of clace but i can't help but feel that the idea of alec as a great leader/diplomat never really made it onto the screen. p3
I agree on your thoughts abt violence in fiction but I’m not sure if it’s correct to compare fandom reactions to Sansa and Alec. I mean, they face very different biases from two wildly different fandoms? As someone who read TMI I can say it’s natural that people appreciate the show for letting Alec kill demons/circle members (those vampires in 1x03 is a separate discussion, though) bc in the books Alec, a trained (!) shadowhunter whose signature weapon is long ranged (!!), has never killed a >>
demon until the end book 3 for an absolutely nonsensical reason. It’s also understandable that many viewers enjoyed Alec punching Jace. It was honestly refreshing to see the golden boy not getting an upper hand in every given situation. Book!Jace treated Alec even worse than his on screen counterpart in s1 and got away no matter how nasty he was. So, I can see how it was a cathartic ass beating for some. As to Meliorn, the SQ made an alliance with Sebastian/Jonathan. Following her orders, >>
Meliorn sent several Downworld Council representatives including Magnus to Edom. Alec tried to interrogate Meliorn on the whereabouts and condition of Magnus and the other hostages by shooting him in the leg, but when he was reminded that Meliorn, a half fey, can still lie, Alec angrily shot him in the chest. So, yes, the scene is pretty dark, you won’t hear me say otherwise. However, it’s one of the few scence within TMI when Alec as a character gets some agency, independence, and complexity.>>
In this rare moment, Alec gets some real character substance instead of being reduced to his sexuality or used to highlight the greatness of others. TBH I wouldn’t begrudge people liking it or wanting to see something similar on the show. IDK I feel like it's very different from the prejudice Sansa receives from the fandom (esp fandom dudebros :/)
I really feel like this should have been a post on your own blog, anon. I'm posting your messages here for the sake of not having details out of context, but I'm not 100% sure why you've sent me this whole-ass essay.
I haven't read the TMI books and I likely won't. I can't really comment on Alec and his character in them. If you feel the only valuable things he does are those you describe above, then that's your prerogative. I probably wouldn't agree, but I'm a stranger on the internet. Nobody needs my permission to like or dislike things, nor can I give it.
I'm glad you find Izzy's plot with the Heavenly Fire satisfying. I do too. I also find Alec's plot in 3.02 (The Powers That Be) satisfying. Alec uses subterfuge, covers for Magnus with Lorenzo, makes a plan (cleansing the leylines) that pays off, and deals with a mutiny within the Institute. Both of these are pretty singular events. Both Alec and Izzy get their competence sold out at random, because someone always has to be holding the Idiot Ball in this show.
If you enjoy Alec punching Jace, then all I can say is, good for you. I don't. I never will. I'm tired of the assumption that I should take the side of one character against the other when I'm much more interested in their relationship and teamwork, flawed and hard-won as both of those are. You've clearly read my blog, and I think I've made myself clear on that.
On which note: Shadowhunters is not a quality show. When I talk about it in a meta capacity, I have to take as a baseline that a lot of the time it makes no sense. It can't remember its own lore half the time. It gives Alec a lot of grand ideas—speeches about trusting his gut and upending traditions, dramatic scenes of him briefing his Shadowhunters, the whole Downworld cabinet—and then merrily undermines them chasing some new shiny plot thread. So yes, Alec's arc is wobbly. You need to apply a lot of Best Case Scenario to make it work. I just don't think it's especially wobbly compared to the rest of the show.
I love the potential, in Alec and in everyone else. I love the bits and pieces that we get and build on them in fanwork. I’m not really here to debate what the show did wrong, I’m here to talk about possibilities.
Sansa and Alec are not directly comparable, but I stand by my argument that they get devalued by fandom for similar reasons. Shadowhunters fandom has a much lower dudebro quotient than GoT, but dudebros and YA/slash fans are equally capable of being motivated by internalised misogyny.
Did I cover all your points? If you want to, I don't know, exchange ideas, a little more brevity and focus would be nice. If you want me to agree with you, then yes, I do, to some extent, and as for the rest, we just want different things from our fiction. Go forth and enjoy yours in peace (not that you need my permission, again).
