Sick Day
Stray Kids x reader
Requested by anonymous: can u do a ninth member one where she’s feeling sick but is forced to go on stage but is like coughing and not giving it her all or something like that? I don’t know just I love your writing and I would really love if u could do that :)
You throw your legs over the side of your bed and pad over to the door. You push it open and sniffle as you go down the stairs, throat aching.
“You look pale,” Changbin remarks once you throw yourself onto the couch with a groan.
“Don’t feel good,” you mumble back. You toss an arm over your face. “I feel so gross.”
“Who’s ready for this?” Jisung screams as he rushes into the living room. You cover your face and bite back a whine at the headache he causes. “Big performance today!”
Changbin hushes him, motioning to you. “She’s sick.”
Jisung freezes, eyes widening. “That’s not good. We’re supposed to have that-“
You cut him off. “I know! You think I wanted to be sick?”
He throws his hands up and slowly backs out of the room. “I’ll go find some medicine.”
Changbin presses his hand to your forehead. “You feel warm.”
Felix walks by, frowning. “What are you doing?”
“Does she feel warm to you?” Changbin asks.
“Is this a trick?” Felix suspiciously questions. He narrows his eyes at you. “You’re… smoking hot. Sexy.”
“No!” Changbin snaps. “Does she have a fever?”
Felix’s mouth forms an ‘O’ as he approaches. He puts the back of his hand to your forehead before nodding. “Yeah, kinda.”
Hyunjin scoffs, leaning on the doorframe. “You just have cold hands. Let me see.” Hyunjin checks, before recoiling. “That’s a fever! Someone put a mask on her!”
“Has anyone used an actual thermometer yet?” Seungmin demands, hovering in the doorway. “Idiots.”
“Do we even have one?” Changbin asks. “Is it in the cabinet or…?”
Seungmin holds it up. “I heard you all shouting and grabbed it.”
Hyunjin winces. “Is it… an ass one?”
You duck behind Changbin. “It better not be!”
“It’s not! It goes under the tongue!” Seungmin rolls his eyes. “Come here.”
You reluctantly walk over, opening your mouth. He sticks it under your tongue, eyebrows pulling together when it beeps and flashes red.
“Fever,” Seungmin confirms.
Jisung sprints inside, juggling bottles of medicine. “What are your symptoms? We need to find the one that matches exactly with it.”
Felix peers at the bottles before taking one and inspecting the label. “This one is just vodka.”
Minho shuffles in, rubbing at his eyes. He yawns before noticing everyone. “Whats going on?”
“She’s sick,” Changbin announces. “Don’t tell Chan.”
You perk up. “Why not?”
“He’ll worry the whole time,” Hyunjin chimes in. “If you take some medicine you’ll be fine. Okay, maybe not fine, but he’ll worry himself sick if he hears.”
“And we don’t need two sick members,” you agree. “Okay, no one tell him.”
Minho clicks his tongue disapprovingly. “I don’t think this is a good idea.”
“Nonsense,” Jisung says as he pours some medicine for you. “Now take these drugs.”
“Don’t say it like that!” Felix pinches the bridge of his nose. “That’s so- Just don’t do that.”
Jeongin wanders into the living room. “Who’s making breakfast? We leave in an hour and I’m hungry. I could eat a horse. Or Hyunjin would work. Pretty much the same thing.”
Hyunjin smacks the back of Jeongin’s head. “Careful. I haven’t had my coffee yet and am not in a good mood.”
Chan tugs at the strings of his hoodie. “What’s going on?”
You force a smile and push away the pounding headache. “Nothing.” You turn around and take the cup of medicine from Jisung, downing it like a shot.
Chan scratches the back of his neck. “Okay then… Is everyone ready for today?”
You nod confidently, although it’s definitely not how you feel inside. “Yes. Very.”
Chan smiles softly. “Good. You’ll be great.”
Your stomach tumbles at his words. You really don’t need another reminder. This is your first time taking such a main spot. You’ll be in the front for the majority, being main vocalist.
And you’re sick.
Chan rolls up his sleeves. “I guess I’ll cook breakfast, then. You all be ready to go when it’s time.”
Felix grins, freckles scrunching up. “Sir yes sir.”
Chan points a finger at him. “You. You’ll be my kitchen helper for that.”
Felix sighs and his shoulders slump, but he obediently trails after Chan into the kitchen. “Sir yes sir.”
“Stay strong,” Jeongin whispers to you. He clenches a fist. “Fight the patriarchy!”
You bury your face in your hands. “Jeongin… No…”
Changbin grins, seemingly intent on making you suffer. “Down with the patriarchy!”
Seungmin pumps his fists, eyes glinting with mischief. “Up with the matriarchy!”
Jisung eagerly joins in. “Mommies rise up!”
Everyone stared at him.
Minho breaks the silence. “What?”
Jisung laughs nervously. “I was just… doing what everyone else was.”
“You really weren’t.” Hyunjin shakes his head.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You grip your microphone tightly. You’re fairly certain that the medicine has worn off by now. You keep flashing between too hot, and too cold. Your head is pounding and your throat burns.
You adjust your belt before stepping out onto stage. The rest of your group follows shortly behind, waving enthusiastically to the crowd.
You take your place at the front, listening to the introductions. When they come to an end and the music begins, you raise your microphone to your lips.
And your voice rasps.
You quickly push it aside, continuing with the song. Your voice thankfully clears, but your head is growing light.
Chan shoots you a worried look a you stumble over a step. You ignore him and push through the movements.
Felix and Hyunjin rush past you, using dramatic hand gestures. Hyunjin had designed that part of the dance and was very proud of it and you’re so tired and-
You twirl in the wrong direction and Jeongin barely manages to slide around you. He plays it off with an extra movement that’s honestly impressive.
You hold off a cough long enough for Jisung’s lines to come up. You dart behind Changbin to cough, grimacing when it tastes like mucus.
Seungmin’s upper lip curls and he offers you a sympathetic look.
The rest of the group parts so you can make your way to the front. You sashay as the choreography expects, only to crumple as soon as you reach the front.
Minho falls to his knees next to you and loops his arms under yours. He drags you off the stage as the others continue with what little remains. You distantly hear Seungmin take over for you, too busy blinking to really pay attention.
Minho props you up, stroking your face gently. “Come on. Deep breaths and I’ll get you some water.”
You take a sip from your bottle when it’s offered to you. “I don’t feel good. I wanna go home.”
Minho hums and presses the heel of his hand to your forehead. “I think you have a fever.”
Chan springs backstage, eyes wide with panic. “What happened? Are you okay? Do I need to take you to the hospital?”
You cough into your elbow. “I’m fine. Just sick.” Your voice is nasally and you can’t possibly imagine how bad you just sounded on stage.
Chan’s expression shifts. “You’re sick? Why didn’t you tell me? Do you have any idea how worried I was?”
“Told you,” Minho whispers as he glides away.
“It was their idea!” Your voice is gesture to the others. “They made me! I’m just sick and you should take pity on me!”
Chan crosses his arms. “That’s no excuse. You need to tell me these things so stuff like this doesn’t happen again. Got it?”
You nod. “I got it. Totally understand.”
Chan sighs and holds out his arms. “Come here.”
You bound towards him and bury yourself in his arms. He squeezes you once before releasing you.
“Now let’s go home.” Chan takes your hand in his and guides you out the doors. “The public and press are being dealt with now. You have nothing to worry about.”
You can barely keep your eyes open by the time you reach the company van. You fall asleep on Changbin, and he carries you inside the dorms.
“Wake up,” Chan softly says. “You need medicine.”
“Drugs,” Seungmin pipes up to make you laugh. “She needs drugs.”
“Mm,” Jisung wiggles his eyebrows, “I love drugs.”
Felix spins around and marches off. “I’ll go get some juice boxes.”
Jisung cheers and runs after him. You sit up to take the medicine you’re given. It’s disgusting and you gag.
Hyunjin jumps away. “Don’t vomit on me!”
You shoot him a dirty look. “Thanks, Hyunjin.”
Jeongin pats the top of your head. “You’ll be okay. Just don’t think about how no one thinks they’re going to die because of a cold, then bam they’re dead.”
“Let’s not talk like that.” Chan swoops in to place a hand on the small of your back. “Go up to bed and get some rest. When you come down we’ll have your juice boxes and maybe even some takeout.”
You cough into the crook of your arm. “I don’t wanna sleep by myself.”
“Ew.” Hyunjin curls away from you. “Don’t infect the rest of us! You’re a walking biohazard!”
“Here.” Changbin hands you a Dwaekki. “Just throw it in the wash when you’re done covering it in disease.”
Minho clears his throat. “Or we could just burn it.”
“Did someone say bonfire?” Jisung pokes his head into the room, a crazed look in his eyes.
“Bartender! One more round!” your best friend, Shelly, calls out.
Despite being busy for the night, the bartender refills more shot glasses and hands them over one by one. After the week you just had, you deserve to have a night out for celebrations. Hard work pays off, and your boss promoted you to a manager with a significant pay raise, and Shelly just got engaged. That is enough to call for a celebratory night out with friends.
“So, have you decided on a maid of honor?” you ask Shelly when she returns to the table.
“You, of course. Better do a good job or else I’m asking my sister to do it.”
“Hey, don’t insult me. You know I love planning a good party,” you grin.
“I can’t believe I’m getting married! This is so surreal! Janice, when is Parker going to ask you to marry him? You’ve been together, what, six years?”
“We’re taking it slow. We don’t mind,” she shrugs. “Don’t come at me without coming after Tina. The other day, I caught her and Ben doing it on the kitchen counter.”
“Tina!” you gasp with a smile.
“I can’t help it. We’re in the honeymoon phase.”
“You got married three years ago.”
“No kids make the honeymoon phase last forever,” she laughs.
“So we’re all in relationships except for Y/N,” Shelly smirks. “When are you going to let a man ruffle those perfect feathers?”
“Shelly,” you grit out.
“Don’t give me that look. You’re the only one out of us who isn’t in a relationship. You’ve been single for half a decade now.”
It’s true. The last relationship you were in just didn’t do it for you. You stayed with him for three years because you thought that’s what you were supposed to be doing. He wasn’t anything special. He didn’t make your heart race. He didn't make your skin hot and clammy. He didn’t make you weak in the knees. But being with him was better than being alone.
You know better now. Being single doesn’t necessarily mean you’re alone. You have a wonderful job, loving parents, funny siblings, and wonderful friends. You like being single, but there are times when you wonder if there is more for you out there than meaningless sex and hookups.
“Despite what you might think, I’m happy where I am.”
“Nope, don’t accept it. We’re going to set you up tonight. Girls, do you see potential matches?”
“Come on, don’t do this,” you sigh.
Your friends chatter amongst themselves as they seek out potential matches for you while you sit there like a bum on a log. You can’t be too mad at them. They want to see you happy. Plus, they might actually find your next love. Despite their best efforts, they don’t find anyone worth your time, but you do get free drinks by flirting with men.
By two in the morning, you and your friends stumble out of the bar in laughter. Your home is a few blocks away so you’re okay with walking back to your place even though you drove there.
“We’ll come back for my car tomorrow. Right now, all I want is pizza. I have some in my freezer,” you say.
You’re not so drunk that you can’t walk straight or you’re slurring your words but you are drunk enough not to be able to drive. Your friends, on the other hand, are more far gone than you are. Shelly is a giggle drunk, Tina is a loud drunk, and Janice is a sexual drunk. You’re a mom drunk, always trying to take care of those around you. It’s why you’re less drunk than they are. Someone has to be the responsible one.
“Let’s stop there!” Tina gasps loudly.
She points to a firehouse that has the garage doors open to let in the cool night are. Inside are about half a dozen firemen, all with big muscles and tight clothing. Your friends are already walking over to the station with you trailing behind.
“Hey, ladies. What are you doing out here at two in the morning?” one of the men asks.
“The bar just closed and we’re not done with our party,” Shelly grins. “We go every Friday night.”
“Why aren’t the firefighters in my distract as hot as you guys are?” Janice giggles.
You step into the station and immediately become sober when you lock eyes with forest green eyes. All the air is knocked out of your lungs, your body becomes warm with tingles, and butterflies erupt in your stomach. Shelly notices the look in your eyes and nudges Janice with a smirk.
“I’m Dean,” Green Eyes says.
“Y/N,” you smile back.
“What’s the party for, ladies?”
“I just got engaged,” Shelly grins and shows off her ring to them. “Y/N just got a promotion.”
“What for?” Dean asks.
“To be a manager. It’s more money and I’m in charge of a lot of employees.”
“I hope you’re a good boss.”
“A very good one,” you smile.
“Do you have any alcohol?” Tina asks.
She stumbles forward and knocks into you. You fall forward and end up in Dean’s lap. He’s leaning against one of the trucks, and he easily catches you in his strong arms. There go the butterflies again.
“Sorry,” you whisper.
“Don’t be. It got you in my arms,” he flirts.
You turn in his arms but he doesn’t let go of you. In fact, he wraps his arm around your chest. Shelly sees the blush on your cheeks and is mentally doing backflips at the thought of you finding your one.
“No, alcohol. Sorry.”
“Y/N, you have some. Let’s go to your place,” Janice says.
“We were heading there when you guys wanted to stop here and talk to the nice men.”
You look past your friends and notice the firefighter pole in the corner, and you gasp happily.
“You have a pole! I’ve always wanted to go down one,” you grin. “Can I?”
“Maybe when you’re not drunk,” Dean chuckles. “How are you guys getting home?”
“Walking. I live a few blocks away. We drove here but my car is going to be parked at the bar all night.”
“Let me drive you girls just make sure you make it home okay.”
“That sounds amazing. We’d love a ride,” Shelly says before you can say anything. “Can we take the firetruck?”
“Do you want to take the firetruck?” Dean asks.
You pull away slightly and look into his eyes. How are they so green? Damn, his parents must have great genes.
“Sure,” you giggle.
“Don’t let the Captain catch you,” one of Dean’s friends smirks.
“Don’t tell him and he won’t know. We’re taking the truck, ladies. Hop in.”
Your friends whoop and cheer as they climb into the truck, and Dean helps you into the front. Instead of driving them all home, he just takes them to your house. It’s a short ride but you feel more sober now than you did when you first arrived at the bar. There's something about Dean that makes you want to remember the night. You want to wake up tomorrow and remember how green his eyes are.
Your friends pile out of the truck and stumble to your front door. You toss Shelly your keys so that they can go inside while you hang back with Dean for a few minutes alone with him.
“Thank you for the ride, Dean.”
“Anytime, sweetheart.”
You open the door and hop out, but Dean doesn’t drive away like you thought he was going to do. Instead, he rolls down the window so he can get a better view of you walking to your house. A man who waits for you to enter your house? That’s a man you want.
“I’ll see you later, Y/N,” he calls out.
“Bye, Dean.”
Only when he sees you walk inside does he drive off. Dean hasn’t left your mind since that night, even after a week of grueling work in the office. As a new manager, you’re expected to do more work and manage more than half a dozen employees. It’s what you signed up for, but you didn’t realize just how much of your energy it was going to cost you.
By Friday night, you and your friends went to the same club to unwind. This time, you didn't drive to the club because you don’t ever want to leave your car here again. Reports of cars being broken into came from the bar. Luckily, yours was left alone but it was enough to scare you from keeping it here again.
“So, what happened with fireman Dean?” Shelly asks with a grin. “Did you kiss him?”
“Shelly! No,” you laugh. “He just gave us a ride. That’s it. I don’t even have his number.”
“Maybe we should go back and get it for you,” Tina smirks.
“Leave the poor man alone.”
This time, you don’t drink as much as your friends because you’re kind of hoping to run into Dean again. You want to remember every interaction with him as you can, and you figure you can always drink at your house. Time flies when you’re having fun and before you know it, it’s already two in the morning. You and your friends pile out of the bar but pause when you see the shiny red fire truck waiting outside.
“Hey, ladies. Want a ride?” Dean grins.
“Dean, hi,” you smile.
The girls giggle to themselves at the starstruck look in your eyes. Thankfully, they don’t comment on it.
“Thanks for the ride, Dean,” Shelly grins.
The girls take their seats in the back while you’re still standing on the sidewalk. You take two steps toward Dean and end up tripping over your own two feet. Dean is quick with his reflexes and catches you before you faceplant onto the concrete.
“Now, if I wasn’t here, who would have caught you?”
“No one,” you blush.
“Exactly. Now I have to be here every time to catch you.”
Once you’re in the passenger seat, Dean takes off toward Shelly’s house. You give him directions to each of their houses until you’re the only one left.
“Thank you for driving us all home.”
“No problem,” he smiles.
You spot a Sharpie in one of the cup holders so you grab it and grab Dean’s right hand. You write down your number in big numbers so he can’t miss it.
“Call me next time you want to pick me up.”
“I’ll be sure to do that.”
You lean over and kiss Dean’s cheek before leaving the fire truck. He watches you with a slight smirk, only driving away once he knows you’re safe inside your house. This becomes a routine for you and Dean. He’s always there outside the club with the fire truck, ready to drive you and your friends home. One time, you had an Uber all set up but Dean refused to let you take it. Your friends are having a field day with this. They tease you about your new fireman boyfriend even though you and Dean aren’t dating.
Could you two be? Sure. He hasn’t asked you out nor have you asked him out, and you two have never kissed. You’re flirting, dancing around the edges of what could be. It’s enough for you right now even though it wouldn’t be so terrible to date him. It’s fun to have a sexy stranger waiting for you.
One Friday night, you’re the designated DD since you have to help your brother move tomorrow. Being the only one sober is hilarious knowing how raunchy your friends can get.
“So, when are you going to fuck him?” Shelly asks.
“It’s not like that. He’s just giving us rides.”
“I bet you’d like to ride him,” Janice giggles. Your entire face goes hot, and she laughs at the look on your face. “Look how red she is! You like him!”
“Drink your drink, okay?”
Throughout the night, all you can think about is Dean and how good he’d look on top of you or beneath you. Curse your friends and their no-filter mouths. By the time two rolls around, you’re leaving the club with your friends. Dean is standing outside near his truck like he’s always done the past few months.
“I’m the DD tonight.” You hold up your key. “No drinking for me.”
“When are you going to fuck her?” Tina asks loudly. “Because it’s been a long time for her.”
“Tina!” you hiss and look at Dean. “Sorry.”
“It’s no problem,” he smiles, “but I am driving you all home. You can call me tomorrow and I’ll drive you back here.”
“Why would you do that? It seems like a hassle.”
“It’s no problem.”
The girls hop into the back while you take the front, as per usual, and Dean starts the drive to Shelly’s house. While he’s driving, you can’t help but stare at him. He has such a great side profile. His jaw is strong and sharp, and he has a delicious amount of facial hair. Not too long but enough to feel the burn on your skin. Dean side-eyes you and smirks knowing you’re watching him.
“Want to turn the sirens on?”
“Yeah! Turn them on!”
“Can I?” you ask with a grin.
Dean shows you the button to press, and you flip the switch. The sirens go off and the lights flash rapidly, and your friends cheer and shout. Dean turns them off before someone thinks there is a real emergency. Dean stops at your house once all your friends are gone, but you don’t rush to get out.
“Thank you for driving them home. You didn't have to.”
“I wanted to. I like driving you home.”
Now that you’re sober, you can feel the tension between you two. This is going to be something you deal with another time, so you lean over and kiss his cheek like you’ve been doing.
“Goodnight, Dean.”
You get out of the truck and feel his eyes on you the whole time. Instead of going inside, you stop by your front door just staring at it. What the hell are you doing? There is obvious chemistry between you two. Are you really just going to ignore it and wait for someone else to snatch him up?
“Y/N?” Dean calls from the truck. When you don’t turn around, he gets out and lightly jogs over to you. “Hey, you okay?”
“Why did you drive me home?” You turn to face him. “Now I have to go back to the club to get my car.”
“I’ll pick you up tomorrow and drive you over there. Not in the truck, unfortunately.”
“That’s not what I asked you.”
“You were drinking tonight.”
“I was the DD. Why did you drive me and all my friends home?”
Dean rubs the back of his neck sheepishly. “Would it be weird if I told you I look forward to Friday nights knowing I get to see your smile?”
“No,” you mumble with a blush. “Would it be weird if I told you I only go to the club on Friday nights knowing you’re out there waiting for me?”
Dean steps closer to you with a smile. “No. Would it be weird if I wanted to kiss you?”
“It’d be weird if you didn’t.”
Dean pulls you into him and kisses you. It’s like how every romance author describes a first kiss. Sparks fly, euphoria flows through the veins, and you can’t ever see yourself kissing anyone else.
༄ ༄ ༄
okay so im imagining a roommate type situation.
like Jungwon is your roomate who has his friend Jay over a lot so you slowly start getting acquainted to him too. you had advertised needing a roommate to help pay for rent. you weren't expecting a response so quick but jungwon jumped at the oppertunity and you didn't mind as long as he was clean and not a freak (at least one of those things is true.)
so there is born a new friendship, and roommate-ship between you and jungwon. you guys would hang out sometimes, often eating dinner together and watching a movie since you both got home from work or school around the same time. you kept to yourself a lot, not that he minded since he did too. but one day he asked if it was okay for him to bring friends over, which you happily allowed. that was the day you met Jay and a couple of his other friends. while he hung out with all of them, he hung out with Jay the most.
usually when he had his friends over, you stayed in your room, not wanting to bother them. sometimes they'd bring food back for you to which you were very thankful and you would eat with them. then you'd retreat back to your room for the rest of the night. you didn't know that you had caught Jay's eye. one time after eating dinner with them, you went back to your room like normal, thanking them for the food.
"yo, you ever hit that?"
cue jungwon almost choking on his food.
"what??? thats my roommate Jay, no."
"what? she's hot. can I have her if you won't?"
"I guess? i don't think she wants you though. she would've mentioned to me if she did."
jungwon had never seen you in that way before, but after seeing how Jay was talking about getting with you, he'd start to notice you a bit more. how smooth your legs always looked. how full your chest looked in your shirt. how nice your thighs and ass looked in those leggings. how it was so hard for him to control his boner around you. he wanted to curse Jay for bringing your sexiness to his attention. he never acted on it though. he didn’t want to make you uncomfortable, or worse, be kicked out of the apartment. that didn’t stop Jay from making comments about you to him every so often.
༄ ༄ ༄
there’s one weekend where Jungwon was going to go on a trip with his friends. they were only going to be a couple hours away and they even invited you out as well, but you declined, preferring a relaxing weekend alone instead. of course they respected your wishes and left soon after. a little bit into their drive away, Jay realizes that he has left his wallet in Jungwon’s room and needed to go back to get it. they all head back and wait in the car while Jungwon and Jay go back inside.
you, having been home alone for about 30 minutes by now, didn’t know that they would be coming back. you wasted no time taking off your pants, finally being able to touch yourself without needing to hold back your moans. naturally due to your little whines and grunts, you don’t hear the front door open.
your noises alert the two males, going to check on you to make sure you’re fine before finally heading out. since you were home alone you felt no need to close your bedroom door, which just so happened to be down the hall from Jungwon’s. one peek inside your room was all it took for them to realize what was going on, you frozen in place like a deer in headlights.
they look at each other, Jungwon holding a shocked expression while Jay’s is the opposite, a crooked smirk appearing on his face.
“my, my, look what we have here.”
shocked and embarrassed can’t even begin to describe your emotions right now. your whole face is flushed red, body limp yet frozen, too shocked to even try to cover yourself up.
“w-what are you guys doing here?”
finally coming to, you grab the blanket closest to you, throwing it over your lower half to cover yourself. Jay’s smirk doesn’t fade as he walks up to you.
“no need to cover yourself up darling, we’ve already seen the goods.”
you didn’t want to admit how extremely hot you found Jay. despite the embarrassment you were currently feeling, a new wave of need was hitting you with every step closer he took. he would trace his fingers over your arm, which was still under the blanket as you were using it to get off. he would look back over to Jungwon whose sporting a painfully obvious boner.
“look at Jungwon, he’s hard from just seeing you like this. maybe you could help us out?”
you look between the two men, confused and turned on beyond belief. Jay helps your nerves, beckoning Jungwon over before placing a hand under your chin, tilting your head to the side so he has better access to you neck. once you feel his lips on your neck, you throw your head back, gasps leaving you mouth the closer her gets to your sweet spot.
Jungwon is on the other side of you, nervous as he reaches his hands around your waist, feeling up your curves and chest. you relax into their touch, getting off on the attention they're giving you as your hand resumes its previous task, 2 fingers delving in and out of your hole.
"such a dirty girl, getting off to the two of us touching you"
Jay tsks, replacing your hand with his own, using two of his fingers to help you out. Jungwon, pent up already, pulls his pants down to reveal his raging boner, tip red and angry. you waste no time wrapping your wet fingers around his length, slowly pumping as he sighs out of relief. Jungwon entangles his hands in your hair, leaning down to capture your lips as Jay continues his movements, following your neck as you kiss Jungwon.
you moan as Jay hits a particular spot your short fingers normally have trouble reaching, gasping into Jungwon's mouth as you pump him faster. Jay's nibbling at your neck, increasing his speed as he feels your walls clench around his fingers. you can't help the gush of liquid that comes out of you, soaking the blanket and Jay's hand.
"fuck, you're so hot"
you pull away from Jungwon to kiss Jay, hand pumping faster on Jungwon as he bucks his hips into your hand, pinching and playing with your nipples under your shirt. your moans don't stop, and that keeps them both going as Jay whips the blanket off of you. both men climb into the bed with you. you pull away from Jay as Jungwon helps you take your shirt off, placing your hand back on his length as soon as you're free from the material. Jay takes his pants off in the meantime, watching your tits bounce freely out of the shirt.
"mind if I have her first Won? I've been waiting for this,"
you look up at him, eyes pleading with him to just be in you already. Jungwon nods his head at the older, biting back moans as he tries not to cum just yet. Jay repositions himself to be in between your legs, lifting one of them up onto his shoulder as he rubs his tip against your folds, lubing himself up with your slick.
"ready baby girl?"
you nod like a madman, ready to have him fully inside you. you turn your head to jungwon, seeing his eyes screw shut as he's on the brink of release, and you pull your hand away. the loud whine from his throat is proabably the hottest thing you've ever heard.
"mouth..."
is all you can muster before Jungwon gets the memo, kneeling before you, inching his cock into your open mouth as Jay finally pushes in. the simultaneous moans from the 3 of you are loud, echoing throughout the house. you're trying your best to suck him off at this angle, drool spilling past your lips and down your chin, making its way down the rest of his length. Jay's pounding into you, soft at first but gradually getting more rough as you adjust to his size. the added finger rubbing your clit has you bucking your hips into his thrusts, and your mouth taking Jungwon in deeper.
your orgasms are all quickly approaching, not really trying to hold back as the pleasure grows too much for the 3 of you. Jungwon cums first and harder than you had expected, having denied his orgasm once before. you almost choke trying to swallow his load, scooping up any of his cum that slipped past your lips back into your mouth, savoring every last drop.
you cum next, moaning loud as your hips push into Jay's thrusts, walls fluttering around his length, causing him to release inside of you. you struggle to catch your breath as Jungwon pulls you into another kiss, relaxing a bit as Jay helps you ride out your orgasm. they both pull away from your spent body, exchanging looks before switching spots.
"w-what are you guys doing?'
you're half delirious, confused as to whats going on.
"I had my turn, now it's Jungwon's turn to be in you."
he turns to Jungwon,
"she's so tight, its the best feeling ever."
Jungwon smirks, confidence coursing through his body as he sees how exhausted you look.
"I can't wait,"
he positions himself between your legs, already hard again at the thought of being in you finally. he winces as he brings his tip up to your wet slit that's leaking both yours and Jay's cum, still a little sensitive from his prior release.
"please, it's too much... s-sensitive..."
your broken words only fuel him more.
"you can take a little more for us can't you?"
Jay says, smiling up at Jungwon, who finally pushes himself into your walls. Jungwon runs his hands up and down your body, soothing you of your overstimulation, Jay reaching his hand down to toy with your clit yet again. you buck your hips into them, so fucked out that you fail to produce a moan, mouth hanging open. Jay looks at you, taking his finger that were previously on your clit and bringing them up to your mouth.
"suck."
he commands. your eyes are rolled back into your head as you close your mouth on his fingers, coating his fingers with your saliva as he brings his free hand down to pump his length. your orgasm is approaching quickly as Jungwon continues to bully your hole. he can tell by the way you're frantically bucking your hips to meet his thrusts, losing your pace as spill all over him.
Jay's hands are moving quick on himself, cumming all over your pelvis and stomach as he empties himself. Jungwon takes the chance to bring both of your legs over his shoulders, pounding relentlessly as he's on the verge of cumming. the pleasure is slowly being replaced by pain, the overstimulation becoming too much. Jay can see the way your face contorts, releasing his fingers from your mouth and placing soft kisses on your neck.
"just a little more baby, hang on a little longer."
you nod, too fucked out to properly comprehend what his words mean. its at that point when Jungwon's hips finally stall, ropes of cum painting your walls as he empties every last drop in you. he pulls out slowly, and you whine, half at the loss of feeling full and half out of relief. he watches as the cum from all 3 of you slowly spills out, taking his finger and pushing it back into you. you arch your back and moan and the boys look at each other, smiling and laughing at your spent state.
they both lay on either side of you, silent and breath ragged as you all try to calm down. the air is heavy with the smell of sex but comforting nonetheless. once you've come back to your senses, you look at the 2 boys, remembering the trip they were supposed to go on.
"what are you guys doing here? i thought you were supposed to be on your trip?"
they look at each other, first looking scared realizing that they left their friends waiting outside for them, but then laughing.
"Jay left his wallet here so we came back to get it. they probably drove off without us already because we were taking too long."
Jungwon shrugs, getting up to grab his phone to check the many messages from their group chat confirming exactly what he said.
"whatever. we can go on another trip whenever we want. but this is more fun, right Y/N?"
you look at Jay, laughing at his implications, not yet worrying about what all this between the 3 of you could mean. they both look at you, smiling fondly at your next words.
"round 2?"
“Why We Can’t Let a 4-Year-Old in Our Car Videos Again”
Sturniolo x 4year old sister
The Sturniolo triplets had done hundreds of car videos, but today’s was going to be very different.
For the first time ever, they were letting their four-year-old little sister, Y/N, join them in the car. She had been begging to be in a video, and after weeks of relentless puppy-dog eyes, they finally gave in.
Chris, however, was already regretting it.
—
[CAMERA RECORDING]
Matt adjusted the camera on the dashboard, making sure it was angled perfectly. As always, he was in the driver’s seat, Chris was in the passenger seat, and Nick sat in the back.
Except this time, there was a tiny pink car seat next to Nick.
“Alright, what’s up, guys! Welcome back to the channel,” Matt said, starting the intro. “Today, we have a very special guest.”
Chris turned around in his seat, smirking at Y/N. “Everyone, meet our little sister, Y/N.”
Y/N waved excitedly, her pigtails bouncing. “Hiiiiii!!!”
Nick grinned. “Are you excited to be in the car with us today?”
Y/N nodded aggressively. “Yes! I wanna do all the funny jokes!”
Chris chuckled. “Alright, we’ll see what you got.”
Matt smirked. “Alright, first question for Y/N. Who’s your favorite brother?”
Y/N gasped, suddenly looking very stressed. She turned her head dramatically, looking at each of them.
“Uhhhh…”
Chris raised an eyebrow. “Better choose wisely.”
Nick added, “Yeah, you don’t wanna hurt anyone’s feelings.”
Y/N frowned in deep thought. Then, finally, she said, “I pick… mommy.”
The car erupted in laughter.
Chris facepalmed. “Wow. Betrayed in 4K.”
Matt shook his head. “Nah, that’s actually hilarious.”
Y/N giggled. “Okay, okay, ask me another one!”
Nick smirked. “Alright, Y/N. If you had one superpower, what would it be?”
Y/N clapped her hands together. “TO BE A KITTY.”
Chris snorted. “Why does every little kid wanna be a cat?”
Y/N shrugged. “Because then I don’t have to eat broccoli.”
Matt laughed. “She’s got a point.”
—
The video continued on, full of laughs and random jokes. Everything was going great until, inevitably, things took a turn.
Chris, being Chris, made a joke that was definitely not four-year-old appropriate.
Matt had just finished telling a funny story when Chris smirked. “Dude, that was so funny, I almost busted.”
Nick, immediately catching on, wheezed in the backseat. Matt grinned but tried to keep it together.
And then…
“Busted what?”
Silence.
Nick’s laughter cut off. Matt and Chris froze.
Chris turned slowly, only to see Y/N blinking at them with pure confusion.
Matt immediately coughed. “Uh—busted… uh…”
Chris looked panicked. “Like… busted a—um—a move! Like dancing.”
Nick, covering his mouth, tried so hard not to laugh.
Y/N’s eyes narrowed. “Then why didn’t you just say that?”
Chris stammered. “Uh—because—I—”
Y/N tilted her head. “What does ‘busted’ mean?”
Matt gripped the steering wheel. “Okay, new topic—”
But Y/N wasn’t letting it go.
“Nick, what does ‘busted’ mean?”
Nick immediately shook his head. “Nope. Don’t involve me.”
Y/N turned to Chris. “Chris?”
Chris gulped. “Uhhhhh…”
Y/N’s tiny legs kicked the air. “Why won’t you tell me?!”
Chris sighed dramatically. “Because you’re four! Y/N.”
Y/N pouted. “But I wanna knoooow.”
Matt smirked. “Y/N, some jokes are just for big kids.”
Y/N gasped. “So I’ll know when I’m a big kid?!”
Chris nodded. “Yup. When you’re older.”
Y/N thought about that for a second, then smiled. “Okay!”
Chris let out a breath. “Crisis averted.”
Nick leaned toward the camera. “This is why we don’t put a four-year-old in our videos.”
Chris turned around. “Y/N, say bye to the camera.”
Y/N waved excitedly. “BYE, EVERYBODY! I LOVE YOU!”
Chris shook his head, laughing. “Alright, cut the video before she asks another question we can’t answer.”
—
Bucky was putting his lunch in his lunch box when a rumble of footsteps came thundering down the stairs and he looked up as Y/N burst into the kitchen looking frazzled. “Why didn’t you wake me up?” She asked him incredulously. “Where are the kids?”
“On the bus,” he answered nonchalantly.
“What?” she sputtered. “H-how…what do you–”
“They got themselves ready, lunches packed, homework done, and I made sure they were out of the house on time,” he said, smirking at her. He grabbed a plate of food next to him and slid it toward her on the island, accompanying it with a mug of her favorite drink. “I wanted to let you sleep. Now sit down and relax.”
Y/N stared at him, the surprise evident in her expression. She glanced at the plate of food then slowly walked over to the island, pulling out the stool chair and sitting down. She grabbed the toast and took a bite. “Thank you,” she said.
“You’re welcome,” Bucky smiled. He rounded the island and stood next to her, his fingers pulling her chin to make her look up at him. “We need to talk about what happened last night,” he said, and her eyes fluttered in sadness. “But, not right now. I’m about to leave for work, but I want you to take today to do nothing.”
“Nothing?” Y/N frowned.
“Absolutely nothing,” Bucky nodded. “Don’t you dare cook or clean, just rot on the couch and get caught up on your shows. I’ve already got dinner set up for delivery later. And we’ll have a good, long conversation about everything over ice cream.”
Y/N still looked surprised, but a small, happy smile crept up on her lips. “Sherbet ice cream?”
Bucky huffed a laugh. “Whatever my pretty mama wants,” he said.
***
That night after the kids went to bed they sat on the couch downstairs, a gallon of rainbow sherbet ice cream between them that they took bites from as they talked about everything. Bucky felt like they had come to a good understanding with each other, and they agreed to actively work towards reigniting their marriage.
“Well, I have a work party next weekend that you can come to,” Bucky said. “We’re celebrating that presentation going well and getting that client.” He hadn’t told her about the bonus yet, wanting to keep it a surprise.
“Oh you know I’m not a huge fan of work hangouts,” Y/N waved him away. “As much as I love Steve, it’s just a lot of awkward moments for me being the odd one out on everyone’s work inside jokes and what not.”
“Okay, okay,” Bucky smiled and nodded. “Then how about the next day? We’ll go out together, just the two of us.”
Y/N smiled. “That would be nice.”
“It’s a date,” Bucky smiled back.
***
That next Friday he found himself in a bar downtown. He felt too old to be there, just keeping a watchful eye on the younger employees as he nursed his one and only beer for the night. He and Steve took the time to catch up with each other, since they were both married, family men who didn’t get to hang out as often as they used to or would have liked. Steve stood from the small table they were at to get himself another drink. Bucky finished his beer, setting the bottle aside when someone else sat in front of him.
“Hey boss,” Natasha greeted him with a flirtatious smile.
Bucky inwardly groaned, but politely smiled. “Nat,” he greeted her. “Hope you’re having fun with the rest of the team.” He had to tread carefully with her. Natasha was young, beautiful, and had made it clear a while ago that her conversations with him were her attempt at flirty banter, sliding in sexual innuendos and compliments towards him. He’d tried ignoring it, not playing into it with her at all, but she was nothing if not persistent and ambitious. That was what made her a great part of the team. He just wished she would take the hint.
“You look ridiculously hot, as usual,” Natasha said, maneuvering herself to sit closer to him, leaning forward on the table to show off her cleavage.
“Oh, um, thank you,” Bucky said, trying to lean away from her. “You look nice.”
“Just nice?” Natasha laughed teasingly. “Looks like I’ll need to up my game next time.”
Bucky’s lips tightened as he tried to subtly look for Steve to save him. “Well, I don’t want you to waste your time with me—”
She reached a hand out and slid her fingers across the back of his hand. “Oh there’s nowhere else I’d rather be than right here, sir,” she purred.
Bucky pulled his hand away and frowned. “Nat, I’m not sure how else to say this without it sounding mean, so I’m just going to say it. I’m married. Happily married–”
“No you’re not,” Natasha smirked. “You’re having marriage problems.” She leaned forward again so she was close to his ear, the alcohol on her breath making him scowl. “I can help you feel better.”
Bucky pushed away from her. “Where did you hear I was having marriage problems?” he asked angrily.
“I could just tell,” Natasha shrugged. “And Peter likes to gossip.”
Bucky rolled his eyes then closed them as he rubbed his face, and she took the opportunity to corner him against the wall, her hand holding the back of his neck and pulling him forward, kissing him right on the mouth. Bucky froze in shock for just a moment before he pushed her away and stood. “What the fuck was that?” he yelled.
“Hey, woah, what’s going on?” Steve asked, finally coming back over to the table with a new beer in his hand.
“She just fucking kissed me!” Bucky replied, wiping his mouth.
“Natasha,” Steve groaned, looking at her with deep disappointment.
“What?” she pouted. “I’m drunk.”
Bucky shook his head incredulously as Steve sighed. “Okay, it’s time for you to go home,” he said, pulling her up by the arm. “I’m calling you an Uber. And we’ll be having a discussion with HR on Monday.”
“What? No! I’m not ready to leave!” Natasha whined, pulling against his hold as he directed her toward the front door. Bucky stood there in shock until Steve came back a few minutes later.
“She’s gone,” Steve said. “I’m sorry, Buck. I knew she was flirtatious with you, I just didn’t think she’d do something like that, even while drunk.”
“Y/N,” Bucky whispered, his eyes wide as he looked at Steve. “I have to tell her, Steve.” Steve’s eyes widened with him.
The sunlight filtered through the curtains as Jullianna pulled her hair into a sleek ponytail, already dressed in a crisp white tennis outfit. She glanced at her reflection in the mirror, adjusting the collar of the polo shirt she wore. Jullianna’s focus, however, was more on the bubbling frustration in her chest. It was not just about the day ahead or the tennis session with Fernando—it was about everything Sofia had dropped into her lap without any warning.
As if on cue, Jullianna’s phone buzzed on the bedside table. She picked it up and saw Sofia’s caller ID flashed on the screen. Narrowing her eyes, she swiped to answer, voice immediately sharp.
“Well, it’s about damn time,” Jullianna began, tone clipped. “I’ve been waiting for you to call, and now you finally do.”
Sofia’s tone was light, almost too casual. “Why good morning to you too, Disney princess. How’s it going?”
“How’s it going? How’s it going?” Jullianna repeated incredulously. “Comment ça va? Vraiment? Tu es sérieusement en train de te moquer de moi?! Sofia, do you have any idea of what you’ve put me through?”
There was a pause on the other end. “What are you even talking about? You know how I can’t understand any of what you’re saying, right?”
“Oh don’t you play innocent with me,” Jullianna snapped. “Karting, Sofia. Karting! You didn’t even bother to tell me how to drive the freaking damn thing! I had to watch youtube videos just to figure out what I was supposed to do. Do you know how embarrassing that was?”
Sofia chuckled nervously. “Okay, okay, I’m sorry! I didn’t think it would be a big deal, papá would’ve helped you.”
“He did,” Jullianna admitted begrudgingly. “But that’s not the point! You could’ve warned me!”
“Fine, I’ll make it up to you,” Sofia said, tone placating. “But seriously, Jules, it’s only karting. You survived, right?”
“Barely,” Jullianna muttered, crossing her arms. “And you’re lucky I did, because I would’ve switched back and made you deal with the mess.”
The line went quiet for a moment, and then Sofia’s voice softened. “I’m sorry, Jules. I didn’t really mean to make things harder for you. I’ll give you all the details next time, okay?”
Jullianna exhaled, some of her frustration easing. “Fine. Alright. But that’s not all we need to talk about.”
“Oh?” Sofia sounded wary. “What now?”
“Stephanie.”
“Stepha-who now?”
“Exactly,” Jullianna said, dropping onto the edge of the bed. “She’s some woman papá had apparently been seeing, and she keeps on coming over to the house like she owns the place. I had to deal with her the other day, and let me tell you, she’s awful.”
Sofia’s voice hardened. “I haven’t heard of her before. When did this start?”
“Eh, probably while we're at camp,” Jullianna said bitterly. “Alejandra told me this woman had been coming around, and from what I’ve seen, she’s trouble. Fake, loud, annoying—you name it, she got it. The worst part? Papá seems completely oblivious to it.”
“Well that doesn’t sound good,” Sofia said. “Keep an eye on that woman. If she’s really as bad as you say, we’ll figure something out. But don’t let that woman get to you, okay? She’s not worth your energy.”
“Easier said than done,” Jullianna muttered.
The twins were so engrossed in their conversation that Jullianna barely registered Fernando calling out for her downstairs. “Sofia! ¡Vamos! It’s time to go!
Jullianna jumped up, glancing at the clock. “I’ve got to go, papá’s waiting for me. We’re going to play a few rounds of tennis.”
“Alrighty. Good luck, Sofia,” Sofia teased.
“Oh shut up.” Jullianna rolled her eyes.
“But seriously though, keep me updated about Stanley.”
“Fia, it’s Stephanie,” Jullianna replied, and Sofia just blew raspberries at her. “And will do. Talk to you later, ugly.”
“Hey! We look just th—” Jullianna ended the call before Sofia could even respond.
Jullianna stuffed her phone into the tennis bag and grabbed Sofia’s tennis racket from where it leaned against the wall, and headed downstairs. Fernando was waiting by the front door, dressed in an equally sporty outfit like Jullianna and holding his own tennis racket.
“Finally,” he said with a smile. “You ready?”
Jullianna nodded with a smile. “Ready.”
The sun was high overhead when Jullianna and Fernando stepped onto the private tennis court—air was warm but pleasant, with a light breeze that rustled the nearby trees. Jullianna adjusted the grip on the racket, movements fluid and confident. Playing tennis was her forté, and it was surely worlds away from the stress and confusion of karting or dealing with unwelcome houseguests like Stephanie.
Fernando took his place on the opposite side of the court, bouncing the tennis ball a couple of times before looking up at Jullianna with a grin. “You ready, chiquita?”
Jullianna smirked. “Yup!”
Fernando laughed, tossing the ball into the and served with precision. The ball zipped over the net, and Jullianna moved quickly, her racket connecting with a satisfying thwack! as she returned the shot.
The rally began, and for the first few minutes, the only sounds were the rhythmic hits of the ball against the racket, quick and hurried footsteps against the clay surface, and the occasional grunt of effort. Jullianna found herself smiling as she played, thoughts drifting briefly to when her and Sofia had shared a match back at camp walden. It was an intense match, filled with playful trash-talking and endless determination to outdo each other.
But then, Fernando broke the silence, tone casual yet curious. “So,” he began, returning a particularly fast shot, “what do you think of Stephanie?”
Jullianna hesitated, her focus briefly faltering before she sent the ball back over the net. “Stephanie?” she repeated, trying to buy herself some time.
“Yes, Stephanie,” Fernando said, voice light but persistent. “You’ve spent some time with her now. I just want to know what you think of her.”
Jullianna tightened her grip on the racket, her mind racing. She couldn’t very well tell him the truth—that she finds Stephanie insufferable, fake, and most certainly not the right woman for Fernando. Instead, she decided to tread carefully, masking her irritation with forced politeness.
“Well,” she began, returning another shot, “she’s…very put-together. Always dressed nicely, very stylish.” she paused, muttering just loudly enough for herself, not my style, though. Mamá’s much better.
Fernando chuckled, clearly amused by Jullianna’s side comment. “So, you think she’s stylish. That’s good to hear, and it seems like you two are getting along.”
“Mm-hmm,” Jullianna murmured, keeping her tone neutral. She didn’t elaborate further, focusing instead on the ball.
Just when Jullianna thought that the conversation about Stephanie is done, turns out that it’s not. Fernando wasn’t done. As the rally continued, his tone shifted slightly, becoming more serious.
“Sofia,” Fernando said, eyes following the ball as it sailed over the net, “I’ve been thinking about the future, and you know that I’m not getting any younger. Sooner or later I’m about to retire soon from Formula 1, and I want to know what you think about Stephanie joining the family.”
Jullianna froze for a split second, the racket nearly slipping from her hands. The words hung in the air, heavy and unmistakable. She knew exactly what he meant, but she decided to play dumb, her voice laced with forced confusion.
“Joining the family? What do you mean, papá? Are you planning to adopt her or something?” Jullianna said jokingly.
Fernando let out a hearty laugh, clearly amused by Jullianna’s sarcasm. “No, chiquita. Not adoption.” he hesitated for a moment before continuing, tone filled with quiet excitement. “What I mean is that I proposed to her.”
The words hit Jullianna like a freight train. For a brief moment, she stood frozen in place, staring at her father as if she had not heard him correctly. Then, as the reality of his statement sank in, something inside her snapped. Jullianna’s next hit was ferocious, with the ball rocketing past Fernando so fast that he barely had time to react. He turned to watch it bounce out of bounds, a look of surprise on his face.
“Wow,” Fernando said with a laugh, jogging to retrieve the ball. “That was quite the shot, eh?”
But Jullianna was not done. Her hits became more aggressive, each one more powerful than the last. She was not just playing tennis anymore, she was channeling all of her anger and frustration into every swing. Fernando was struggling to keep up, missing shot after shot as the intensity of the game escalated.
“Sofia, mi vida,” he called out, tone now tinged with concern. “What’s going on? Are you okay?”
Jullianna didn’t answer, her jaw clenched, and eyes burning with a mix of anger and betrayal. Finally, after one last blistering shot that Fernando couldn’t even attempt to return, she threw the racket with force—destroying it in the process and turned on her heel.
“Sofia!” Fernando called after her, voice filled with confusion as to why his daughter was acting up. “Where are you going?”
But Jullianna didn’t look back. She walked briskly off the court, chest heaving with unspoken words, and tears of frustration stinging her eyes. When Jullianna reached the front door of the house—still angry and frustrated, she grabbed the handle and turned it open, but in her haste and anger, she twisted it the wrong way. The door didn’t budge.
“¡Por favor!” she hissed, shaking the handle violently.
When it still refused to open, Jullianna growled in frustration, yanking the door with all her strength. Finally, it gave way, and she stumbled inside, muttering to herself. She glanced at the door handle, relieved to see it hadn’t broken. Once inside, she marched into the living room, pacing back and forth, her sneakers squeaking faintly against the floor.
“Comment peut-il penser que c’est une bonne idée?” she muttered, throwing her hands in the air. “Who even is she? Elle est insupportable!”
Jullianna’s rant alternated between languages—English, French, and Spanish, as her thoughts tumbled out uncontrollably. “He proposed? To her? ¡Dios mío, papá, estás loco!”
She stopped pacing momentarily, pressing her hands to her forehead. “This is not happening. This cannot be happening. I can’t handle this alone, I’m only one kid.”
Lost in her tirade, Alejandra peeks around the corner of the armchair she’s been sitting in with a cup of coffee in her hands. Alejandra initially assumed Sofia was in one of her usual moods, but the erratic pacing and the odd blend of languages caught Alejandra’s attention.
When Jullianna finally turned around, Alejandra cleared her throat gently. “¿Tienes algo que quieras compartir con la clase, mi chica?”
Jullianna froze mid-step, head snapping up—to which she immediately regretted because of the strain of her action. Her eyes widened in shock, the usually composed façade already slipping. Her heart was racing so fast, and quickly straightened her posture, smoothing her tennis skirt and forcing a smile.
“Alejandra! I didn’t see you there, you gave me a fright!” she said, tone overly bright.
Alejandra sat her coffee cup down at the side table, her eyes narrowing slightly as she stood up from the armchair and slowly approached Jullianna.
“You didn’t see me? Gave you a fright? I’ve been sitting here the whole time, chica. You were so lost in your own thoughts, or rather, in frustration, that you didn’t notice.” Alejandra folded her arms, studying Jullianna closely. “¿Qué está pasando? En serio.”
“Nothing, I swear!” Jullianna replied too quickly, smile tightening. “Just…a lot on my mind lately.”
Alejandra tilted her head, gaze sharpening. “¿Seguro que no hay nada de lo que quieras hablarme?” she asked for the second time. “You’ve been acting strange, mi niña.”
“Strange?” Jullianna echoed nervously, the forced smile on her face faltering. “I don’t know what you mean.”
Alejandra took a step closer, expression skeptical. “Sí, extraño. For one, you’re acting too proper—using expressions like you gave me a fright, the way you eat—you barely touch your food now, and even the way you speak sometimes, it’s different. I didn’t even know you speak French.”
Jullianna opened her mouth to respond but found herself at a loss for words. She tried to come up with some silly excuse, anything to divert Alejandra’s growing suspicion, but her mind went completely blank.
“Alejandra,” she trailed off, “I changed a lot over the summer, that’s all.”
Alejandra’s gaze softened, though her tone remained firm. “Si no lo supiera, diría que es casi como si estuvieras…” she paused for a little bit, “Ay dios mío, no importa, eso es demasiado imposible.”
Jullianna hesitated, the weight of the secret she had been carrying threatening to crush her. “Almost as if I were who, Alejandra?”
“Nadie, nadie. Chica tonta, olvida que lo mencioné.” Alejandra chuckled. “Why don’t I make your favorite food, huh? I think that tennis session with your papá had made you hungry.”
Finally, Jullianna sighed, her shoulders slumping in defeat. She couldn’t take it any longer, so she’ll take the chance now. “¿Casi como si fuera Jullianna?”
Alejandra’s eyes widened. “What?” her breath hitched. “You know about Jullianna?”
“I am Jullianna.” Jullianna breathed out.
For a moment, silence hung heavy between them. Alejandra stared at her, mouth opening and closing as she’s trying to process what was happening. Then, tears welled up in Alejandra’s eyes.
“¿De verdad eres Jullianna?” Alejandra asked, voice trembling.
Jullianna nodded, her own eyes glistening. “Yes, it’s me.”
Alejandra’s hands flew to her mouth as a sob escaped her. “¡Mi niña!” she cried, rushing forward to embrace Jullianna.
The hug was tight, almost crushing, but Jullianna didn’t mind. She wrapped her arms around Alejandra, feeling an unexpected wave of comfort.
“No puedo creerlo!” Alejandra said through her tears. “The last time I saw and held you, you were just a baby—barely a year old. You and your mother left for France after the divorce. I thought that I would never see you again.”
Jullianna blinked back tears. “I’ve missed you too, Alejandra.”
Alejandra pulled back slightly, cupping Jullianna’s face in her hands. “¡Oh, mírate!” she said, voice filled with awe. “All grown up, but still the same little girl that I used to hold in my arms. But why are you here in Spain? Where is Sofí?”
Jullianna hesitated, unsure how much to more of her and Sofia’s plan she could reveal. “It’s…complicated,” she said finally.
Alejandra nodded, sensing that Jullianna wasn’t ready to share everything just yet. “Alright,” she said gently. “But you have to be careful, mi niña. If your papá finds out—”
“I know,” Jullianna interrupted, voice firm. “That’s why I need you to keep this between us. Please, Alejandra.”
“Of course,” Alejandra nodded. “Haría cualquier cosa por ti.”
Fernando stepped inside of the house, chest heaving as he called out, “Sofia! ¿Dónde estás?” his voice echoed through the house with urgency.
The sounds of Fernando’s footsteps grew louder as he entered the living room, and Jullianna stiffened, her arms instinctively crossing over her chest. Alejandra had sensed the tension, so she placed a comforting hand on Jullianna’s shoulder.
“Está bien,” Alejandra whispered gently. “I’ll leave you two to talk, I’ll be at the kitchen and prepare you some snacks.”
Jullianna nodded, watching as Alejandra quietly exited the living room and headed towards the kitchen. She barely had a moment to collect her thoughts before Fernando appeared in the doorway of the living room, looking left and right for Jullianna. When he saw her, he paused, hands on his hips, exhaling deeply as though trying to steady himself.
“Sofí,” he said softly, tone coaxing. “Come, sit with me, princesa.” Fernando gestured to the couch.
She hesitated but eventually walked over and perched on the edge of the couch, arms crossed defensively over her chest. Jullianna’s gaze stayed fixed on the floor, refusing to meet her father’s eyes.
Fernando sat beside her, leaving a careful distance between them. “Why did you run off like that mi vida?” he asked, voice gentler now.
Jullianna did not respond, jaw tightening.
“Sofía,” Fernando pressed, leaning forward slightly. “I proposed to Stephanie the other night. It was a very special moment for us—”
“Stop. I’m gonna stop you right there,” Jullianna cut in sharply, standing abruptly. The words struck a huge nerve within her, and she could not hold back any longer. “Just stop, papá, please.”
Fernando blinked, surprised by her sudden outburst. “¿Qué te pasa? Why are you acting like this?”
Jullianna turned to face Fernando, eyes blazing with nothing but anger. “Because it is outrageous!” she snapped, throwing her hands in the air. “You’re marrying her? That woman? Marrying Stephanie?”
He frowned. “And what is so outrageous about that?”
“Oh my god, papá! That woman’s practically young enough to be my sister!” Jullianna shot back, pacing back and forth as her emotions spilled over. “Do you not see how absurd this is? All of it!”
“I never knew you would be reacting like this,” Fernando stood, hands raised in a placating gesture. “Sofía, calm down, por favor. There’s no need to—”
“Je suis calme!” Jullianna shouted like a maniac, clearly not calm at all. She began to switch to French again without even realizing it, her words tumbling out in a torrent. “Comment peux-tu faire ça? As-tu même pensé à ce que cela signifierait pour nous? C’est insensé! Je ne peux pas croire que tu ferais ça. Elle n’est pas la bonne pour toi, papa. Pas du tout!”
Fernando furrowed his eyebrows, stepping in closer towards Jullianna. “What…French? Desde cuándo hablas francés?”
Jullianna stopped pacing, momentarily caught off guard. “I-I um, uh, learned it at camp,” she said quickly, brushing past the question. “But that’s not the point!”
She faced Fernando. Taking a deep breath, she began, voice softening slightly. “I’m sorry for my outburst,” she said, brushing her hair back from her face. “But we need to talk about this rationally.”
Fernando nodded, motioning for her to sit again, but Jullianna preferred standing. “Alright, alright,” he said. “Let’s talk. But in a language we can both understand, por favor mi vida.”
He sighed, patience already visibly thinning. “Sofía, I don’t understand why this is upsetting you so much. Stephanie has been kind to you, hasn’t she? She’s made every effort to—”
“Kind?” Jullianna scoffed, cutting him off. “That’s not the issue, papá. This isn’t about her being nice, this is about you thinking you can just bring someone into our lives and marry them without even considering how it affects everything!”
Feenando’s brows furrowed deeply. “I have considered it. Stephanie is someone I care about, and I thought you would—”
“Well you thought wrong!” Jullianna interrupted, voice rising again. She felt the heat of tears threatening to spill but blinked them back furiously. “You can’t do this, papa. You can’t marry her—or anyone else! It will ruin everything!”
He opened his mouth to respond, but before Fernando could even say a word, Jullianna already turned on her heel and stormed out of the room, her tennis shoes squeaking against the floor.
“Sofía!” Fernando called after her, voice tinged with frustration and confusion. But she didn’t stop despite how many times Fernando called out for her.
Jullianna slumped into the St. Anthony’s face-to-face swing, letting her head fall back against the smooth wood. She exhaled sharply, crossing her arms over her chest, still reeling from what she had just learned. Fernando had proposed to Stephanie. Proposed. The word itself made her stomach churn.
This was worse than she and Sofia had imagined. They had time, or so they thought. But now, with a ring on Stephanie’s finger, the entire course of action had been changed—everything was moving too fast. Jullianna and Sofia had to quickly put their plan into motion if they even want to stop this wedding from happening, they need to act now. But there was only one viable solution: they had to get you and Fernando back together.
Jullianna was deep in thought, brainstorming ways to subtly, but not-so-subtly, bring you to Spain or maybe one of his races so that she and Sofia can just push you both back towards each other, when a sudden knock against the wooden frame of the swing had startled Jullianna. Her head snapped up, and saw Stephanie.
“Mind if I join you?” Stephanie asked, voice light and airy, as if she had just wandered into the garden without a care in the world.
Before Jullianna could even answer, Stephanie lowered herself onto the vacant seat of the swing, facing her directly. Jullianna barely stopped herself from grimacing, just looking at Stephanie made her want to barf.
Stephanie clasped her hands together, tilting her head slightly. “I can imagine how surprised you must have been by the engagement news.”
Jullianna forced a tight-lipped smile, words laced with passive aggression. “Oh, shock doesn’t even begin to cover it, honestly.”
Stephanie just chuckled, completely oblivious to the sharp edge in Jullianna’s tone. She relaxed herself on the seat, movements elegant and poised, as if this were just another casual afternoon chat. Forcing herself not to groan, Jullianna braced herself for whatever nonsense Stephanie was about to spew.
“You know,” Stephanie began, leaning slightly forward, “eleven is such a very wonderful age.”
Jullianna arched an eyebrow. What in the actual world does that have to do with any of this?
Stephanie smiled wistfully, as if she was reminiscing about something so precious. “When I was eleven, I had my first beau.” She let out a soft laugh, eyes sparkling with nostalgia.
“It was the first time I really started to feel like a woman.” she sighed dramatically. “That’s when I realized love was this fantastic, exhilarating mystery, one that takes a man and a woman on the most magical journey.”
Jullianna’s hand was tightly gripping the armrest of the swing, jaw now clenched, and resisting the great force of rolling her eyes. Oh, for the love of all things holy. She kept her expression neutral, pretending to listen, but internally, Jullianna was already pulling her hair out and screaming.
Stephanie continued, completely unaware of Jullianna’s growing irritation. “And believe it or not, you’ll understand that feeling soon,” she said with a knowing smile.
Jullianna just stared at Stephanie, fingers curled slightly now against her arms. She was not sure what was more annoying—Stephanie’s patronizing tone, or the fact that she spoke as if she had somehow unlocked the secrets of the universe. She certainly did not want to sit there, listening to this woman yap on about love like she was some kind of modern day Aristotle.
Before Stephanie could continue her sickly sweet monologue about love and magical journeys, Jullianna lifted a hand slightly, cutting Stephanie off.
“You know, I don’t want to sound all jerky or anything, because, from what I can tell, you’re trying really hard to be all mushy and sentimental.” she tilted her head slightly, letting her eyes linger on Stephanie’s with something close to amusement. “And I think I finally got it.”
Stephanie blinked, caught slightly off guard. “Get what, exactly?”
Jullianna leaned forward slightly, lips curling into a knowing smile. “What my papá sees in you.” she continued, voice still laced with that same passive aggressiveness, but now there was something else woven into it—a challenge. “You’re a beautiful woman. Sexy, even, and my papá? Well, he’s only human, after all.”
Stephanie’s lips parted slightly, but no words came out just yet. Jullianna’s smile widened just a little, though her eyes were sharp.
“But if you ask me, marriage is supposed to be based on something more, don’t you agree?” Jullianna let the question hang in the air for a moment before her smile turned almost innocent. “Something more than just…fornication. If you don’t know what fornication is, it means sex.”
Stephanie’s entire expression shifted. Gone was the light, airy persona. Her posture stiffened just slightly, and the sweetness in her eyes dimmed, now replaced with something sharper, something calculated. Jullianna didn’t flinch though, in fact, she was thoroughly enjoying every bit of it.
She smiled, but it was a whole lot different now. “Oh boy, your papá really underestimates you, doesn’t he?”
Jullianna let out a small, breathy chuckle. “Oh?” she mused, cocking her head slightly, as if intrigued. “And you don’t?”
Stephanie studied her closely, lips still curved, but her eyes darkened. Jullianna could feel it now—she was starting to get on Stephanie’s nerves. It was a beautiful sight and symphony for Jullianna. Good. People always tend to overlook her, underestimated her. People would assume that she was just a kid who did not know any better. She liked it that way. Because nothing thrilled Jullianna more than a good challenge, and judging by the way Stephanie was staring her down, she had just found herself a new one.
She then let out a light laugh, though there was no real humor behind it. Stephanie tilted her head slightly, her eyes narrowing just a bit as she studied Jullianna with thinly veiled annoyance.
“So what if I’m young and beautiful?” Stephanie mused, voice airy but carrying an undertone of sharpness. “Last time I checked, being young and beautiful isn’t a crime.”
Jullianna simply raised an eyebrow, keeping her smirk firmly in place, which only seemed to annoy the hell out of Stephanie even more.
“And for the record, I know what fornication means, thank you very much. I love your father, I adore him. Your father is exactly the kind of man I’ve always envisioned myself marrying. This—” she gestured between herself and Jullianna as if making some kind of grand declaration, “is the real deal, honey. Nothing, and I say nothing, is going to come between us.”
Jullianna barely blinked at Stephanie’s words. She just leaned back against the wooden swing, one arm lazily draped over the armrest, completely unbothered, and yawning out of boredom to piss off Stephanie more.
While Stephanie, on the other hand, was growing impatient. She leaned forward slightly, gaze piercing as she said, “you need to understand something, sweetheart. This is the reality now, you have to accept the fact that you’re no longer the only girl in Fernando Alonso’s life. You need to get over it.”
That did it. Jullianna’s lips curled into an even bigger smirk, one that was almost too smug, too knowing. It made Stephanie’s fingers twitch slightly, as if she were resisting the urge to wipe the expression right off her face. She leaned in slightly as well, resting her elbows on her knees as she stared Stephanie down.
“Oh? That’s the reality, huh?” she drawled, voice dripping with amusement.
Jullianna continued, her smirk never wavering. “So, just to be clear that we’re on the same page here, papá’s money has nothing to do with any of this? No part of you thinks that marrying him just so happens to come with a very very comfortable lifestyle?”
Stephanie’s expressions had immediately tightened, but she quickly schooled her features back into something neutral. “Are you insinuating that I’m marrying your father for his money?” she asked, feigning offense, though her voice was just a little too even to be genuine.
Jullianna simply shrugged, the smirk on her face never fading. “I’m not insinuating anything, but if that’s what you think, then feel free to think of such things,” she said innocently, though her eyes were gleaming with mischief. “I’m just saying, I’ve seen this in a film before. I mean, come on, I’ve watched cinderella more times than I can count.”
Stephanie’s brows furrowed slightly, unsure of where this was going. Jullianna sighed dramatically and shook her head. “And if this whole shazam isn’t about money, then great! But personally? I’d rather not end up scrubbing the floors and befriending the neighborhood birds while you have breakfast in bed, smiling down at me from your throne in papá’s house.”
Her entire face stiffened at what Jullianna just said, lips pressing together tightly as the words settled between them. For the first time in their entire conversation, Stephanie had no response at all, and that? That brought nothing but pure, unadulterated joy.
However, Stephanie’s entire demeanor changed the moment Jullianna’s words sank in. Her perfectly poised expression faltered, just for a second, before her brows furrowed and her lips pressed into a thin, irritated line. It was the exact reaction that Jullianna had been hoping for. She had successfully gotten under Stephanie’s skin, and now? Now she was really starting to see the cracks in the woman her father wanted to marry.
Stephanie inhaled sharply, composing herself before leaning forward again, but this time, her face was mere inches from Jullianna’s. She locked eyes with her, the intensity of her gaze enough to make most people shrink under the pressure. But not Jullianna.
“You are unbelievably out of line, jovencita,” Stephanie said in a low voice, tone dripping with controlled frustration.
Jullianna simply blinked up at her, her smirk never faltering. Stephanie exhaled through her nose, clearly trying to keep herself from snapping. Then, with slow precision, she spoke, enunciating each word carefully.
“Listen to me, and you listen good,” she began, voice dangerously soft. “I’m marrying your father whether you like it or not. So if I were you, I’d quit playing whatever little game you think you’re playing and stay out of my way.”
Jullianna raised an eyebrow, tilting her head slightly as if contemplating Stephanie’s words, but said nothing. Stephanie leaned more closer, voice dropping even more lower.
“You are way in over your head, sweetheart,” she continued, tone carrying a hint of condescension. “So I suggest you don’t tangle yourself up in things you clearly don’t understand.”
There was a heavy pause. Stephanie studied Jullianna’s face, waiting for some kind of reaction, for her to look intimidated, or at least acknowledge the warning, and Stephanie took Jullianna’s silence as an agreement, she leaned back on the swing, arm draping over the armrest.
Instead, Jullianna just smiled. Not a polite smile, not a nervous smile. But a slow, teasing, infuriating smirk. Then, she shrugged, Stephanie’s eye twitching. Before the woman could say another word, Jullianna stood up, stretching slightly as if this whole conversation had been nothing more than a mild inconvenience for her. Without a warning, she bent down so that she was now the one at Stephanie’s eye level.
“Je comprends parfaitement, Cruella.” she said smoothly. Stephanie blinked, momentarily caught off guard.
Jullianna smiled again, that same mischievous, knowing grin that had been pushing all of Stephanie’s buttons. Then, because Jullianna was still eleven after all, and feeling particularly childish, she blew raspberries right in Stephanie’s face, wherein the woman recoiled, visibly appalled. Jullianna giggled, straightening up before giving her soon-to-be stepmother a playful wink.
“Au revoir, Stéphanie,” she said cheerfully.
Jullianna turned on her heel and walked away, leaving the woman completely dumbfounded.
The next few weeks Dean and I started to see each other almost every night after work.
Walking my students to their buses I noticed Dean was standing outside already at his afternoon duty station. His job was to help the pick ups get in their cars.
I had to walk past him to get the first set of students on the bus. “Good afternoon Ms Y/L/N.” He smiled. I smiled, “Good afternoon, Mr Winchester.” He winked and I blushed.
The kids took turns fist bumping him as they got on the bus.
I noticed a mom walking up and she made a beeline to Dean. I chuckled because they have all tried to get with him and nothing worked.
As I walked back towards the school I noticed the mom standing really close and her hand was on his arm.
I tried to ignore it but then I heard him laugh. The laugh he was famous for when he thought something was really funny. Head tilting backwards, full body laugh.
My eyes flicked up and a pang of jealousy shot through my body as I saw his hand brush against hers.
I went back inside the school to get my students who were pickups. I noticed the mom was still standing by Dean and my heart sank when I saw her hand him a piece of paper and he took it.
I was heartbroken. “Ms Y/L/N, there’s my mom. Can I go to her?” The sweet little voice broke me out of my head. “Um, yeah sweetie. Go to Mr Winchester, he’ll put you in the car.”
I saw her walk over and her mom pulled up. Dean helped her in the car and his head turned and he looked at me. I couldn’t look at him so I turned my attention to my students.
The rest of the dismissal was a blur. The mom stood beside Dean the whole time. When her daughter came out she still stayed. Dean talked and it looked like they were bantering back and forth. I felt sick.
Karie walked up, “Looks like Ms Mackie snagged Dean. I swear I thought the two of you would get together.”
I softly chuckled, “Yeah. Me too.” I gave Dean one last look and went back inside.
The tears in my eyes threatened to fall, but I bit my lip to keep them at bay. I packed my bag and headed to my car.
Walking out the front door of the school I heard Dean call my name but I kept walking.
“Y/N, wait.” I hear him call before I make a beeline to my car. I hear the door click behind me and then open in haste.
“Y/N wait!” I stopped and turned. The tears burning my eyes. “Sweetheart, what’s wrong? You look upset.”
I softly scoffed. “I’m fine. I’m tired.” “Okay, well I’ll be over later.” He smiled and touched my arm.
I pulled away and as I turned to leave I said, “Don’t bother.”
Dean stood frozen in place in shock. “What, why?”
“Dean, this was a mistake. I need to go.”
Dean stood outside my car dumbfounded. He went back inside to find Karie. “Hey, Karie. Is Y/N okay? I just saw her in the parking lot and she looked upset. Did she say anything to you?”
“No, not really. We saw you and Ms Mackie at dismissal, but other than that no. I told her I thought the two of you would get together and she said so did she.”
Dean’s heart sank. He knew he messed up. He just didn’t want to cause a scene and was being polite. He threw the note away once he got inside. “Thanks Karie. I appreciate it.”
She nodded and Dean grabbed his stuff and headed to my place.
I walked in my house and sat my stuff down. The tears I’d been fighting started to fall. Dean kept trying to call and message me but I couldn’t talk to him right now.
I went to my bedroom and changed my clothes, putting on my sweatpants and oversized shirt.
I walked in the kitchen to pour a glass of wine and there was a knock at the door.
I sat the glass down and went to answer it.
Looking through the peephole I saw Dean. Still dressed in his work clothes. I took a deep breath and opened the door.
Dean’s eyes met mine and his face fell. “Sweetheart, I’m so sorry. I would never hurt you. I was being polite to the mom. As soon as I got in the school I threw the note away. I have no idea what it says.”
“Dean, I saw you with her. You touched her and the two of you were bantering back and forth. I get it, I’m your dirty secret. We can’t let anyone know the hot PE teacher is dating the frumpy Kindergarten teacher.”
“No, baby. Don’t say that about yourself. You’re beautiful and all I want.”
I scoffed, “Dean it’s fine. I get it. This was just fun for you, a way to pass the time. You’re free to date whoever you want. It’s not like we put a label on us.”
I started to close the door and he stuck his foot in, blocking it.
“Y/N, don’t be like that. You’re not a dirty secret. I just figured we’d keep our relationship to ourselves so problems don’t arise at work.”
I scoffed, “Problems? Oh like ruining your chances with the hot moms. I get it Dean. I’m exhausted and just want to lay down. Please move your foot.”
He sighed heavily, “Please don’t do this. I really like you.”
I couldn’t look at him, my heart was broken. Every single guy I liked, let in always broke my heart. There was always someone prettier, skinnier, sexier than me.
“Dean, please just go.” A tear slipped down my cheek. Dean’s hand came up and cupped my face. “I’m sorry, sweetheart. I really am.” He wiped the tear away and placed a kiss on my forehead.
He sighed, turned and walked away. I closed the door with a click and cried.
Leaning against the door, sobs shook my body.
There was something about Dean that made me feel safe.
Dean hadn’t walked far when he heard my sobs. His heart sank. Dean knew he had to fix this, but he wasn’t sure how.
The weekend passed by in a fog. I barely left the couch. The events from Friday playing in my head. Monday morning my alarm blared and I didn’t want to go to work.
How could I face him after this? At least we haven’t had sex yet or said I love you.
Walking into the school the halls echoing with the sounds of my shoes hitting the floor.
I walked into my classroom and turned on the lights. Sitting on my table were two dozen long stemmed red and pink roses.
I gasped softly. About fifteen minutes later my students were coming in. They were each carrying a piece of paper and it confused me.
“What do you guys have?” They giggled as they handed their paper to me. After the last one came through the door I put the papers together.
I read the papers and tears pricked my eyes.
“Ms Y/N Y/L/N-The Hot Kindergarten Teacher, I don’t want to hide you. I really like you and I want you to be my girlfriend. What do you say?
Mr Dean Winchester-The Hot PE Teacher
I smiled and looked up to see Dean standing at my classroom door with a pink and red rose.
“What do you think, sweetheart?” Tears fell from my eyes and down my cheeks.
I leaped into his arms, “Yes!” He kissed my lips softly and the kids said “eww”. We pulled apart laughing.
His hands cupped my face, “sweetheart, I told you you’re not a dirty secret. I want everyone to know I’m yours and you’re mine.”
I hugged him tightly and he kissed the top of my head. “I’ll see you after work, okay?” I nodded and he kissed me one last time before leaving.
Later that afternoon the school was buzzing with what happened with Dean and I earlier. Karie and Tiffany wanted details and wanted to know why I kept it from them. I explained we wanted to keep it between ourselves, but I promised to keep them in the loop.
I stopped at the store on the way home to grab stuff for dinner. Dean was coming over and I wanted to cook for him. I grabbed an apple pie from the bakery for dessert.
Arriving home I got changed and started cooking. Dean volunteers after school on Monday to help coach the peewee basketball team, so I knew I had plenty of time to cook and have it ready for when he came over.
The aroma of baked chicken and garlic herb potatoes filled the kitchen. The timer on the oven dinged, indicating the food was done. I pulled the pan out of the oven. Closing the oven I heard a knock on the front door.
I smiled and answered the door. Dean was standing there wearing dark jeans, a dark blue Henley and a flannel.
I bit my lip on instinct. He pulled me into a hug and he smelled heavenly.
When he pulled back he kissed my lips, “Hey, sweetheart. You look beautiful.” My cheeks filled with a rosy hue as I smiled.
“You look pretty nice yourself, Winchester.”
I stepped to the side so he could come in. He looked over his shoulder and smiled, “It smells amazing in here.” “Thank you, I hope you’re hungry.”
He turned and his eyes flashed with lust, “I’m starving.” He pulled me into a searing kiss. It turned heavy and passionate quickly.
Dean’s hands slid up my back and into my hair. His fingers laced around my hair and pulled me deeper into the kiss. When we pulled apart our lungs screaming for air as our chests rose and fell in tandem. Trying to take in the air we needed.
Dean’s fingers brushed against my lips and across my cheeks, “You are so beautiful and I missed you so much.” I leaned into his touch, “I missed you too. Come on, let’s eat before it gets cold.”
He nodded and our fingers interlaced each other as we walked to the table. Dean pulled out my chair and then took his seat. “Sweetheart, this looks amazing. Thank you.” “You’re welcome. I hope you like it, and save room for dessert. I got pie.”
His eyes darted up to mine, “Pie?! Oh wow, a girl after my heart.” “You better believe it, Winchester.”
As we ate we talked about the day and the past few days. We made a promise to each other to always talk things out. I promised I would work hard at not letting my past trauma affect how I communicate with him. He promised to pull back on the charm, well towards others.
When dinner was cleaned up, Dean and I made our way to the couch. He pulled me close and we kissed. Dean held me tight and I straddled his thighs.
Dean gasped softly and I smirked. Leaning forward I placed a soft kiss on Dean’s lips. Pulling his bottom teeth gently between my teeth. Things turned heated quickly.
Dean’s hands slid up my body and back down to my hips. His strong hands held my hips in place against his groin. I could feel his hardness through his jeans and mine.
His fingers played with the hem of my shirt and I nodded. A silent plea met with a silent yes. Dean’s calloused fingers slid under the hem of my shirt and made their way up to my breasts. His fingers leave a trail of goosebumps in their wake.
My breath hitched as his hands made their way to my breasts. Dean’s hands slipped around and unhooked my bra. Dean’s eyes met mine as he placed a kiss on my lips.
He removed my shirt and bra. Biting his lip he took in my exposed flesh. Dean’s breath hitched. “You’re so beautiful.”
Dean leaned forward and I helped remove his shirt. My hands rested softly on his firm chest. My fingers laid against his flesh and I saw a shiver run through his body.
My eyes met his in a pleading look. I needed him, no I wanted him and I knew he wanted me too.
Dean’s lips kissed down my torso. One hand gently cupping my breast while his mouth kissed, sucked and licked the other. His tongue flicked my hardened nipple as his teeth gently bit it. Pulling a moan from my lips.
I could feel the heat pooling between my thighs. “Dean, I’m ready.” His green eyes turned darker with lust, “Are you sure sweetheart?”
I nodded and stood, taking his hands and pulling him up with me.
Our fingers intertwined as I led him to the bedroom.
Once inside the room Dean gently laid me back on the bed as his strong arms caged me under him.
His lips pressed against mine and he worked his way down my torso. A chill went through me as he got to the hem of my pants.
His green orbs darker with lust, looked up to mine. I nodded. His fingers grabbed my hips and made their way to my zipper. I lifted my hips off the bed as he slid my pants down, leaving me in my soaked panties.
Dean positioned himself between my thighs. His strong hands parting my legs, exposing my soaked panties to him. He grinned as he looked down. My face flushed red with heat.
“Can I?” He asked in his deep, whiskey smooth voice.
“Yes, Dean.” I swallowed hard. My body trembled under his touch. My breathing shaky as I looked into his eyes.
His fingers hooked my panties and pulled them down. Dean’s calloused hands ran back up my leg and held my thighs in place.
He licked his lips, “I can’t wait to taste you.” I nodded, giving him the permission he needed.
The first contact of his hot breath on my soaked core had my body shaking. The anticipation filled my very soul and my body throbbed with excitement.
His head disappeared between my thighs and as his tongue made contact I arched my hips up and moaned.
My hands instinctively went into his hair. He began lapping at my pussy like a man starved. Placing love bites on my inner thigh and on my clit.
I moved my hips with him and before too long I was feeling my insides coil tightly. Ready to break at any moment.
“Oh yes, Dean! Fuck.. don’t stop.” My please stuttering from my lips as my head began to spin. He took one hand and slid two fingers inside me. Causing a moan from my lips.
“That’s right, baby girl. You take me so well.” His praise turned me on more. He sucked, licked and nibbled my clit as I moved closer to my release.
“Dean…. I’m….close.” I grabbed his hair and then the sheets. Not knowing what to hold on to as he thrusted me over the edge and my release hit hard.
So hard I was seeing stars. Dean smirked and a light chuckle fell from his lips. He leaned forward and kissed my lips, I could still taste my release on his lips.
I looked at him and smirked, “You’re overdressed, Mr. Winchester.” My eyes flicked down to his pants. I could see his hard member straining against his pants. I bit my lip.
He stood and unbuttoned his pants, sliding them down over his thick thighs and removed them. His boxers contained his hard cock and I wanted it to be freed.
I leaned forward and placed my hands on his thighs, pulling him closer to the bed. Our eyes met and he smirked. My fingers hooked into the waistband and he nodded.
Sliding his boxers down, his hard cock sprang free. I gasped slightly as I took in the sight of his perfectly toned body. My breath hitched.
“Like what you see?” I nodded.
I laid back, pulling him down with me. I felt his cock pushing against my thigh as he kissed me.
“Dean, I need you. Please baby.” Dean positioned himself between my thighs and grabbed a condom. He tore the pack open with his teeth and slid it down his hard shaft.
Lining himself up he pushed his cock head into my entrance. As he pushed in we both gasped.
My hands gripped his arms and his hands held my hips. Pushing every inch in he stilled for a moment.
Our eyes connected as he kissed my lips. “You feel so good baby.” I moved my hips, silently asking him to move.
He pulled out and pushed back in. Our hips connected together and again he pulled back and in again.
Dean set a slow, steady pace. Our moans and pants filled the room. The bed squeaked with each thrust.
My back arched off the bed as Dean picked up my legs and changed the position. His cock hitting my cervix as his long, thick cock filled me to the brim.
My walls stretched and wrapped around him. Each thrust took me closer to another release.
He felt so good inside me. His lips kissed my body, leaving love bites and marking me as his.
As my walls squeezed tighter I felt his thrusts speed up. “Dean..oh fuck! I’m gonna cum again.”
“Me too baby. Cum for me. Let me feel you fall apart on my cock.” Within a second I was cumming hard.
He groaned as my walls grabbed ahold of his cock. Dean pushed deeper and harder in me and with a grunt I felt his cock twitch and empty his seed in the condom.
Dean stilled and as he pulled out he rested his forehead on mine and kissed my lips.
He climbed out of bed to clean himself up and when he returned he brought a cloth to clean me up.
Grabbing the sheet he pulled it over us and I laid against his chest. His arms wrapped around me and a fog of euphoria washed over me.
I looked up at him. Looked into his beautiful green eyes, so full of warmth and love. I smiled softly and whispered, “I love you, Dean.”
Dean gasped softly and took a shaky breath. His mind exploded with the words and thought of the vulnerability of the moment.
Taking a deep breath he lifted my chin, kissed my lips and whispered against them, “I love you, too.”
______________
The Wayne Manor was unusually quiet for a Saturday morning, save for the occasional sound of footsteps and the faint clinking of dishes from the kitchen. Tim sat in the library, his laptop open on the table in front of him, several tabs pulled up as he combed through every scrap of information he could find on Sarah, the nursery, and, most frustratingly, Y/N.
He was so engrossed in his search that he didn’t notice the faint creak of the door opening behind him. “You’re doing that thing again,” came Duke’s voice, breaking the silence making Tim jolt slightly, looking up from his screen. As Duke leaned casually against the doorframe, arms crossed and a curious grin on his face.
“What thing?” a frown slowly creased its way onto his lips as he stared Duke down. “You know,” Duke snickers, walking into the room and dropping into a chair across from him. “The thing where you get all hyper-fixated on something and start acting like a conspiracy theorist. You’re, like, two coffee cups away from turning this into a full-on crime board with red string.”
Tim rolled his eyes. “It’s not a conspiracy. I’m just... looking into something.”
“Uh-huh,” Duke said, leaning forward to peer at the laptop screen. “So what’s got you all worked up this time? Serial killer? Corporate espionage? Secret society trying to take over Gotham again?” Tim hesitated for a moment, weighing whether or not to bring Duke into this. But before he could respond, another voice chimed in.
“Tim’s got a new obsession?” Dick sauntered into the room, his usual grin plastered across his face. He flopped onto the couch, resting his feet on the coffee table despite Tim’s glare and groaning over not wanting to have everyone snooping in his business and his mini case.
“I don’t have an obsession,” Tim said flatly.“You totally do,” Duke said, smirking. “He’s been glued to that laptop since breakfast. And judging by the way he muttered, ‘Why would she bury that recording?’ earlier, I’m guessing it’s something juicy.”
Dick perked up at that, his grin widening, eagerly trying to look over Tims shoulder to see what sort of case he had been working on or piecing together “Ooh, now I’m interested. Spill, Sherlock.”
“It’s nothing,” Tim said quickly, closing one of his tabs. “Just... something weird I noticed at the nursery Alfred and I went to yesterday.” Dick raised an eyebrow, before shooting Duke a look. “a nursery? the one Alfred dragged you to?”
“Yeah,” Tim muttered, clearly reluctant to elaborate. Duke and Dick exchanged a look before and then Duke is leaning forward with a smile as his eyes dance across the screen trying to catch snippets of what he can read. “Okay, now you have to tell us. What’s so weird about a nursery?”
Tim knew he wasn't getting out of this, he wasn't the only detective in the family and knowing his luck one of them would figure something out if they didn't just blatantly ask Barbara to hack his computer. He lets out a reluctant sigh, realizing he wasn’t going to get out of this. “Fine. There’s this guy who works there—Y/N. He’s... not normal.”
“Not normal how?” Dick asked, his curiosity clearly piqued.
Tim hesitated again, trying to figure out how to explain without sounding insane. “meta, has a way animals and plants react to him like nature takes to him. It normally wouldn't be a problem except this is me, I get a weird feeling while there, he's what’s making my detective instincts go off so i dig a bit And then there’s this video of him and Ivy...”
That got their attention. “Wait, Poison Ivy?” Duke asked, sitting up straighter. “What kind of video?” Tim opened his saved files scrolling through until he found it, pulling up the grainy footage he’d found the night before. He hit play, and the three of them watched as Y/N and Ivy stared each other down, the crow perched on Y/N’s shoulder shifting uneasily while the plants around Ivy swayed in her presence.
No one said a word as the clip played out, showing Ivy turning and leaving without so much as a word, while Y/N remained frozen in place. When the video ended, Dick let out a low whistle. “Okay, that is weird. Like not as weird as I was expecting but more so the fact that Ivy just straight up turned around and walked off ”
“Exactly,” Tim said, gesturing at the screen. “Ivy doesn’t just back down like that. Not unless there’s a good reason. And then she never went back to the nursery again. Ever.” Duke frowned, leaning closer to the screen. “What’s the deal with the crow? It’s just... sitting there, like it’s his pet or something.”
“That’s the thing,” Tim said, pulling up another clip from the security footage. This one showed Y/N walking through the nursery, with the same crow trailing after him. “Animals act weird around him. They follow him around, leave him little trinkets... it’s like they’re drawn to him.” Dick leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees as he watched the second clip. “So he's a nature based Meta?, i mean it's not the first time we have had run in’s with them, but he doesn't seem hostile. So why is he on your radar?”
“I don’t know,” Tim admitted. “He's just… his file seems to be clean, No criminal record, no connection to Ivy or anyone else in Gotham’s rogue gallery. He’s just a guy who works at a nursery.” Tim really doesn't know why he was so fixated, but after the rumours of Ivy having an apprentice and then Y/n, it couldn't be a coincidence.
“And yet,” Duke said, pointing at the screen, “Ivy looked at him like she’d seen a ghost. That’s not nothing.” “Exactly,” Tim said, running a hand through his hair. “There’s something going on with him. I just don’t know what it is yet, i'm trying to find information, whether he's involved with Ivy somehow, and well i've heard she has an apprentice, and him showing up”
Dick leaned back, his expression thoughtful. “You think he's involved?”
“like 73%, there is a probability that he isn't but with everything so far, i just need to see if there is anything else with him and Ivy, because it may, may have been a fluke of two people with nature based abilities having a stare down, but even that probability is extremely low” Tim said. “Interesting,” Dick said, tapping his chin. “So what’s your next move, Detective Drake?”
Tim rolled his eyes in annoyance. “I don’t have a ‘next move.’ I’m just... keeping an eye on things for now. He hasn't caused any chaos that im aware of, so i'm just observing ”
Duke snorted, trying to cover up a cackle. “Yeah, right. You’re already planning to go back there, aren’t you?”
“I—” Tim paused, realizing they weren’t wrong. “Classic Tim. You get a mystery in your head, and you can’t let it go. You’re gonna end up camped out in the nursery parking lot with binoculars, aren’t you?, mightstart calling you Inspector gadget again”
Tim huffed, closing his laptop. “Whatever. You guys don’t get it. There’s something weird going on with Ivy, and I’m going to figure out what it is. And so far everything is pointing towards Y/n”
“Sure, sure,” Duke said, raising his hands in mock surrender. “But hey, let us know when you crack the case. This is way more interesting than patrol. I happen to enjoy when you get yourself wrapped in an obsessive state over a case” Tim glared at him and if a look could freeze Duke it would have, but Dick just laughed, clapping him on the shoulder as he stood up. “Don’t work yourself into a frenzy, Tim. You’ll figure it out. You always do.”
“You’re not taking this seriously.” “Oh, we are,” Duke said, holding up a hand. “It’s just more fun to watch you spiral.”
“I’m not spiraling!” Tim hissed out in defence. “You are definitely spiraling,” Dick said with a chuckle. “But hey, I get it. Weird guy, weird vibes, weird encounter with Ivy—it’s a classic Gotham mystery. I’d be curious too.” Tim groaned, slumping back in his seat.
Before anyone could say more, the subtle sound of footsteps caught their attention. Cass walked into the room, her dark eyes scanning the scene in front of her. She tilted her head, clearly intrigued by the animated discussion.
What are you talking about?
she signs, it takes her a moment to make sure she had signed it right. And took Duke and Dick a bit longer to translate it than it did Tim.
The three boys exchanged a look, and then Duke grinned. “Oh, Cass, you’re gonna love this. Tim’s got a new mystery guy.” Cass blinked, her gaze shifting to Tim. “Not like that!,” Tim said quickly, his face flustering pink as he elbows Duke. “It’s not a thing. It’s just... There's this guy at the nursery Alfred took me to. He’s… a meta who has similar abilities to Ivy.”
Cass raised an eyebrow and sat down on the armrest of the couch near Tim, silently encouraging him to continue. “Okay, so there’s this guy, Y/N, who works at the nursery. Animals and plants act weird around him, like they’re drawn to him. And the footage I found shows him having some kind of... standoff with Poison Ivy. She didn’t attack him. She didn’t even say anything. She just... left.”
Cass frowned slightly, her expression thoughtful.
Not normal?
she signs simply. “Exactly!” Tim said, gesturing at her like she’d just proved his point. “Show her the video,” Duke said, nodding toward the laptop.
Tim hesitated for a moment, then pulled up the footage again and turned the screen to face her. Cass leaned in, watching closely as the grainy video played out. Her sharp eyes followed every detail. Y/N standing frozen, the crow on his shoulder shifting restlessly, Ivy’s calm but deliberate retreat. When the clip ended, Cass sat back, her brow furrowed. Her finger moves to point towards his neck and cheek.
Leaves?
Cass pointed at the screen. “Y/N. He’s nervous, but... not afraid. Not of her.” Her voice is rather quiet and slightly raspy as she talks, making an uncomfortable face as she analyses the young man. “Calm. Like... he belongs.” she continues. “Belongs?” Tim repeated, his frown deepening. “What do you mean by that?”
Cass gestured vaguely toward the screen. “Plants. Animals. They like him. Trust him. He doesn’t force it. It’s... natural. like..” She's trying to find the right word but can't. “zїna biando ” Dick mutters his accent coming out for a moment. Making everyone look at him. “You said there were little leaves and vine patterns On his skin, can you zoom in enough on them?” he asked rather fascinated, he hadn't heard stories of the Fae born since he was a child.
The room fell silent for a moment as everyone processed what Dick had said. The image is blurry but they can all make out the very fine line little leaves that seem to pulse under Y/n's skin, they look like little fine leaf ferns or something akin to them.
“ he’s not controlling them,” Dick said slowly. “It’s more like... they’re drawn to him because of what he is. My Daj used to tell me stories about the fairies when I was little, about how they used to steal babies away when they were small and replace them. Used to scare me shitless as a kid”
Duke let out a low whistle. “Okay, that’s... kind of cool. Still weird, but cool.” Tim, however, wasn’t satisfied. “That still doesn’t explain why Ivy backed off,” he said, staring at the screen. “She doesn’t care about people who are meta She only cares about plants. If she left him alone, it’s because she saw something in him. Something that made her think he wasn’t a threat—or maybe she was afraid of him.”
“Maybe he isn't a meta, Dick did just say he reminded him of fairies, and I know for a fact they aren't cute little winged creatures that fly around granting wishes. Ever think he might be something outside of the normal ” Duke said, while shooting Dick a look of ‘you said it not me’
“Or,” Dick said with a grin, “maybe he’s secretly her long-lost nephew.” and that just makes Tim groan. “You’re not helping. One moment you're saying he's an ancient being and the next that he's her nephew you're impossible you know that.”
Cass nodded. “But don’t push too hard,” she added, her expression softening. “If he’s hiding, there’s a reason.” Tim considered her words, then nodded slowly, he trusted Cass’ advice more than a lot of other people's. She was good at reading people and understanding them from just a glimpse. “Alright. I’ll keep digging, but... carefully.” “Good,” Cass said, a small smile tugging at her lips.
Duke grinned. “Man, this is shaping up to be way better than I thought. Let me know if you find anything juicy, Tim.” Dick chuckled, standing up and stretching. “Yeah, keep us updated on your new favorite mystery guy. But i'm probably going to head, i want to try and make it back to Blüdhaven before the midday rush, I'll catch you all next week, oh Jason's also organising for an arcade night next Saturday”
Tim turned back to his laptop, her words echoing in his mind. Whatever Y/N was hiding, Tim was more determined than ever to find out. But now, he couldn’t shake the feeling that Cass might be right whatever the truth was, it wasn’t going to be simple.
—----
The quiet hum of Y/N’s voice filled the small apartment as he moved from plant to plant, watering can in hand. The soft golden light of the morning poured in through the window, illuminating the small jungle he’d created on his windowsill. Each plant looked healthier than it had any right to leaves vibrant, stems strong, buds ready to bloom.
Out on the balcony railing, the crow that frequently visited him sat fluffed up, the soft clicks and occasional caws breaking the otherwise peaceful silence as it fiddled with the toys and treats stuck in them.
“You guys are looking better,” Y/N murmured, brushing his fingers lightly over the leaves of a small, struggling fern. His touch was gentle, as if he were afraid of hurting the delicate greenery. “Knew you just needed a little love. Glad I brought you home, hopefully this fertilizer will be more gentle on you than the stuff at work.”
The fern seemed to perk up under his touch, its leaves ever so slightly unfurling. Y/N smiled softly at the sight, a quiet sense of pride blooming in his chest. He moved on to the next plant, a wilting orchid he’d taken from the nursery just a week ago. It had been deemed unsellable, the kind of plant most people would have thrown away without a second thought, after all orchids were known for being a hard plant to keep alive. But Y/N had seen potential in it, like he always did. Changed the substrate it was in for rock moss in hope it would help keep it from getting root rot.
“Don’t worry, you’re going to be beautiful again soon,” he said softly. He added a small pinch of his homemade fertilizer mix and gave the orchid an encouraging tap on the side of its pot. The crow clicked again, drawing Y/N’s attention. He glanced toward the balcony, a small smile tugging at his lips. “What? You want some attention too?I just gave you blueberries and peanuts trying to swindle more treats out of me?”
The bird fluffed itself up further in response, letting out a soft caw. “Alright, alright,” Y/N said with a chuckle, setting the watering can aside. He stepped out onto the balcony, resting his forearms on the railing as he looked out at the city. The crow hopped closer, its beady eyes locking onto him. “You’re so spoiled, you know that?” Y/N said, reaching out to scratch the bird's head. The crow tilted its head, leaning into the touch.
Y/N let out a contented sigh, his gaze drifting back to the plants inside. The apartment was small, but it felt alive, every corner brimming with greenery, from the hanging pots in the kitchen. It was a little sanctuary in the middle of Gotham.
As he finished tending to the last plant, stepping back and surveyed his little indoor garden. A satisfied smile spread across his face. “There we go. You guys are all set.”
Y/N settled into his couch, the crow flying in to perch on the backrest beside him. He grabbed the remote, flipping on the TV, the soft hum of the news anchor’s voice filling the room.
The familiar Gotham News Network “ temperature. Highs today will reach the mid-50s, but by tomorrow morning, we’re looking at lows in the upper 30s. So, make sure to bundle up and keep an umbrella handy, expect ice on the roads and perhaps even some snow!” Y/N ran a hand through his hair, glancing at the plants by the window. If it did snow he'd have to bring all the plants from the balcony inside, he didn't want them to get frost burn. “You guys are lucky you don’t have to deal with the cold,” he muttered with a small smile.
“In other news, a multi-car pileup on the Gotham Expressway has left three people injured and caused significant delays for morning commuters. Authorities say the accident was caused by a trailer losing control on a slick patch of road. Emergency services are working to clear the road.” Footage of flashing lights, emergency vehicles, and crumpled cars filled the screen, followed by a statement from a spokesperson for the Gotham City Police Department.
“Thankfully, no fatalities have been reported, but we urge drivers to exercise caution, particularly with rain expected later today. And positive snow and ice in the coming days”
Y/N sighed, shaking his head. “Gotham traffic is bad enough without stuff like that, guess ill be leaving extra earlier for my shift on monday so i dont get caught” he murmured.
The anchor’s shifted again this time to a woman at a desk, this time to the lighter, polished tone reserved for celebrity gossip.
“And here in Gotham, headlines as Bruce Wayne announced a new charitable initiative at yesterday’s gala. The initiative, focused on improving inner-city schools, will launch with a $10 million donation from Wayne Enterprises. Mr. Wayne, known for his philanthropic efforts, spoke briefly to reporters about the project.”
The screen cut to footage of Bruce Wayne, dressed in a sharp suit, smiling politely as he addressed a crowd of reporters outside the venue. “This city’s children deserve every opportunity to succeed and have a chance for a better future, ” Bruce said, his tone calm and confident. “Education is the foundation of a brighter future, and it’s our responsibility to provide the resources and support they need to thrive.”
The clip ended, cutting back to the anchor.
“Wayne Enterprises CEO Tim Drake-Wayne also announced plans to partner with several local nonprofits to ensure the funds are distributed effectively. This comes on the heels of a recent spike in Wayne Enterprises’ stock prices following the successful launch of their clean energy program.” Y/N let out a low whistle, leaning back into the couch. “Man they are always busy, that lot” he said, shaking his head.
Y/N lounged back against the couch, one leg draped over the armrest as he lazily flicked through the channels. The familiar static hum of old TV shows filled the room, and he settled on an episode of mind-numbing drama that he didn’t care enough to name. It wasn’t for the story; it was just background noise to accompany the quiet peace of his apartment.
Reaching to the side table, Y/N grabbed a small stack of books he’d been working through. The worn covers and dog-eared pages spoke of his frequent use, each book filled with handwritten notes, underlined passages, and little scraps of paper sticking out as bookmarks.
His fingers trailed over the spine of one before he opened it, flipping to a section he’d been revisiting lately: remedies for colds and flu. The weather report replayed itself in his mind—a sudden cold front, rain, and dropping temperatures. He already knew what that meant.
Mrs. Callahan from down a floor would be knocking soon, asking for something to help with her sinuses, which he'd then remind her she needed to see a doctor over it. And Mr. Moran would probably stop by later in the week, claiming he wasn’t sick while sniffling through every word. Y/N smirked as he flipped through the pages, his fingers tapping softly against the book’s edge.
He didn’t mind. His neighbors weren’t bad people, and they were always grateful for the little tinctures and herbal teas he whipped up for them. Better than the over-the-counter stuff, they always said. “Alright,” he murmured to himself, scanning a recipe for elderberry syrup. “Elderberries, ginger, honey, cinnamon... got plenty of that. Should probably make a bigger batch this time.”
His eyes shifted to another section, one detailing a simple herbal vapor rub. He scratched at the faint stubble on his jawline, making a mental note to check his stash of eucalyptus oil. After jotting down a few quick notes in the margins of the book, Y/N stood, stretching his arms above his head. The soft rustling of the nearby plants caught his attention as he moved. Their leaves seemed to shift slightly toward him, as though drawn by some invisible force. He paused, smiling faintly.
“You guys are so needy,” he teased lightly, brushing his fingers over the nearest set of leaves. Y/N wandered into the kitchen, grabbing a large mixing bowl and a few jars from the cabinet. He worked methodically, humming softly as he pulled ingredients from various cupboards. His crow companion let out a soft caw from its perch on the back of a chair, watching him with the same curious intensity it always seemed to have.
Y/N said, tossing the bird a small piece of dried fruit he’d left out on the counter. The crow caught it mid-air, clicking in approval as it settled down to eat. The herbs and jars are spread out across the counter as Y/N begin to measure and mix. The faint scent of cinnamon and honey filled the air as he started on the elderberry syrup, carefully boiling the berries with spices before straining the mixture into a pot.
[Minutes later, Ivo is still locked in the bathroom, crying inconsolably and loudly. Rouge and Shadow are on the couch, lounging and staring at the ceiling, she with her back against the couch, and he with his head in his hands] Robotnik: FORSAKEN! I'VE BEEN FORSAKEN! I AM LOVELEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESS! Shadow [through gritted teeth]: Rouge, tell him to shut up already. Rouge: Eggman, stop being so annoying! Robotnik [through sobs and hiccups]: Oh, sure! Ignore the drama! I’ll put duct tape over my mouth so I don’t bother you two with my broken heart’s laments! Shadow: The duct tape’s in the second drawer, thank you. [The front door opens abruptly, and both of them sit up tense. Abraham enters the house like a basilisk, followed by Knuckles and Sonic, trying to stop him] Abraham: What’s this about you going to a party!? Robotnik: God, the last one I needed: the tin soldier. Knuckles: Sorry, Rouge, I thought he knew! Shadow [to Rouge]: Didn’t you take away his keys?! You all come in like this is a free-for-all! Abraham: Rouge, I thought you were going to come have dinner with me so I wouldn't spend the night alone! Shadow: When was that decided?! Robotnik: Well, too bad, 'cause they’re going to a party and leaving me alone! Sonic: Why is that man yelling in the bathroom??? Shadow: Why do you think? Rouge, because of these messes, I’ve been telling you, you need to get a planner! Rouge: Stop with the planner! Are you getting commission for recommending them?! Knuckles: But, who are we going to have dinner with? I’m getting confused. Robotnik: You’re having dinner with everyone except me! Sonic: Don't you think there's a reason why? Shadow: Don’t destabilize him even more! Sonic: Has he ever been stable? Rouge: People, calm down, it's okay! Robotnik: No, it’s not okay! Abraham: I’ve got the turkey ready to go! How could you do this? Shadow: Abraham, don’t start with the victim act. Robotnik [sniffs]: I feel so alone… Shadow: YOU STOP IT , TOO! Rouge: Look, we’re all adults here. Our plan is to go to Amy’s party. Yours can be whatever you want. Period! [Everyone goes silent except for Eggman, who continues sobbing from the bathroom] Abraham: Well, hm, I’ll go buy a quail because the turkey is too much for me alone… Happy New Year, guys. Robotnik: Happy New Year, Abraham, darling. [Abraham leaves the house. The couples exchange a look. Knuckles rubs Rouge's arm] Sonic [goes to hug Shadow by the shoulders]: Thank goodness, it was about time you two stood your ground. They always do whatever they want with you. Rouge: I actually feel sorry for them… Shadow: I mean, we can always go to Amy’s party after twelve-- [As on cue, Eggman comes out of the bathroom and Abraham re-enters the house] Robotnik: Of course! Abraham: We’ll have dinner together and then you can do whatever you want! Sonic [to Shadow]: Softie, you're nothing but a softie. Robotnik: I’ll cook! I’ll make my coq au vin for you! Abraham: No, no, I’ll cook. I already have the turkey. Robotnik: You can choke on that stupid turkey for all I care. Abraham: Hey, don't you dare insult my family’s turkey! [pulls his mustache] Robotnik: Not the mustache, not the mustache! [grabs his hair] [They fight and fall to the floor, continuing there] Knuckles [sighs]: This reminds me of the holidays I used to spend with my tribe.
Chapter 21 - Let’s ignore the elephant in the room.
Summary: Y/N learns more about the people who live in Izuku’s head. No, she doesn’t think Izuku needs to see a therapist. Izuku already does that anyway.
Izuku also acts weird when it comes to the Hero Gala… what is he hiding?
(Is this how you write a summary? Hell, I’ve been away for too long.)
Somewhere in the near future
Y/N’s Diary entry #145
Life has been great. Too great, to be honest.
I was loved and appreciated and my side hustle helped me to get enough money to feel safe in case something goes wrong. No more stress about being a burden or feeling useless. Sounds great, right?
It was… it was great. Everything was splendid.
I knew something will happen in the future. I knew it can’t stay this good forever.
But I didn’t think the reality will hit me this hard.
The funny thing is, that it isn’t even about me. My life is still… great. But seeing my loved ones in so much pain is worse than being in it myself. The tears, the loud sobs, the sound of choking on air in the middle of a breakdown… these things live in my head rent-free, they keep me up at night and mess up my mornings and I hate how I’m completely unable to do anything to help my loved ones.
~•~
“I know we usually go from number ten to number one, but tonight… it will be different.” The entrepreneur announced on the hero gala without a single smile, shaking and kinda broken. No one clapped. They just sat in silence, their eyes the size of saucers, their anxiety clear even through the screen of the TV. “I have a letter from our favorite number one pro hero, Deku. Now let me read it for you.”
I knew right at that moment… that things won’t be same anymore.
~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~
Back to the present.
“Do you think we went a bit unhinged in there?” You mumble to yourself as you enjoy the hot water of the onsen. Izuku looks at you questioningly, not really understanding what this is about; feeling his gaze on you after everything you two have just done it’s a little bit… well… embarrassing? No, it’s not the right word to use. It’s a pleasant feeling but it also makes you shy away a little bit. You feel like that meme that’s circulating the internet about wives getting shy around their long-term husbands after getting… well… loved hard. Now, there is two problems with this; first of all, it was your first time with him (plus you’ve only been together for a few months), second of all, your time together was anything but… hard. It was soft but scorching hot like a marshmallow being cooked by a fireplace. It was the exact opposite of what that wife was going through in that one meme.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean… we are a bit too much, aren’t we?” You try to make yourself a bit easier to understand and by the look of it, Izuku gets it; but instead of getting shy about it, he just gives you a massive, adorable smile then moves into your personal space to answer you while your lips are almost touching.
This man will be the death of you.
“Is it weird to be obsessed with my girlfriend?” Izuku closes the distance, his lips moving on your own as he speaks. It makes your heart beat out of rhythm and you feel the familiar warmth in your tummy again, only half an hour after your cheeky shenanigans.
You blame it on the hot water, because otherwise… How insatiable can you be?!
“I mean, it might look weird to other people. But I guess I’m no better than you and if you are okay with it then so am I?” You answer with your eyes half lidded, anticipating the kiss you are so hungry for.
“I don’t give a fuck what others think, Sweets. Not when it comes to you.” Izuku grumbles in a deep voice and finally puts his lips back on yours for a chaste kiss. You can’t help but giggle.
“Did Kacchan’s soul just infiltrate you for a second there?”
“Nah, but my answer was heavily influenced by one of the vestiges inside me. He doesn’t talk much but when he does, he has a strong opinion.”
“They… talk to you?” You look up at your boyfriend with pure wonder. This is the first time you hear about this; he told you about feeling the old wielders inside him but he never clarified on what level he can communicate with them. In your head, you thought it’s more like a second conscience, like you can feel it when they are angry or happy about whatever is happening around Izuku but that’s about it.
“Yeah, I…” Izuku moves his face away from you but his arm snakes around your middle to pull you closer. You put your head on his chest, ready to hear his story. It’s something you do quite frequently; you put your head on his chest or in his lap while Izuku tells you unheard tales about stuff he’s been through. “You see, it’s really embarrassing to tell someone that there are several other people living inside my head, taking over my own thoughts sometimes. I don’t want to end up in a mental hospital… not like you would ever do something like that, but… I’m sorry I kept this a secret.”
“How does it work?” You take Izuku’s free hand in your own and start playing with it, trying your best not to sound so nosy. You fail.
“They… well… uhh, this is so hard.” He giggles. “They aren’t constant… they jump into my head once in a while when they have a strong opinion about something but they let me live my own life and they try their best not to interfere nor influence my decisions. They talk to me during battles, help me with strategies, I can also close my eyes and talk to them if I want to or need to. During my dark days, right after the accident I sometimes managed to completely zone them out. They weren’t happy about that.” Izuku admits.
“What were they thinking about us?” You try to change the topic because there is no way in hell you want Izuku to start getting all nostalgic and sad right now.
“They teased the shit out of me for being a coward. They knew about my feelings sooner than I did. They haven’t said too much but when they did they were… let’s just say I have a full ass “SweetZuku” ship gang inside my head.” He giggles, leaving a tiny kiss on the top of your head. “Don’t worry, they love you. Especially the first wielder. And the second, even if he denies it.”
“Tell them I said hi.” You mutter sleepily, way too comfortable in this position.
“You made them really happy by saying that. Maybe, in the future we could try and talk to them together.” Izuku smiles, elated from being understood.
“I would love that. Thank you, Izu… and the gang.” You giggle, moving your head towards Izuku’s to give him another kiss.
“I hope this kiss is only for me though. I’m a really giving guy, but I’m not sharing you.”
You laugh out loud; this reminds you of the time when Izuku got so jealous of that poor fan who asked for a selfie with you that his black whip came out in the middle of a meet and greet, scaring the shit out of the staff while the fans just took it as “fan service” and wrote poems about how cool it was to see black whip in action.
“I’m aware of that, Izu. Way too aware.” You giggle yourself as you keep peppering kisses on your boyfriend’s mouth.
“Sorry, it won’t change.” Izuku announces proudly and you are so proud of him that you are about to cry; this might sound like a red flag from anyone else, but seeing Izuku finally sticking to his opinion instead of trying to change for other people is such a big step up compared to his old self you can’t help but feel pride swelling in your chest because hell, you did that. It was a long struggle but finally, your work has payed off.
“You have nothing to be sorry about. I know you wouldn’t harm anyone nor me and it’s in your rights to be protective over your loved one so please, keep being jealous, it’s kinda hot, anyway.”
“Wow.” Izuku looks at you incredulously, extremely entertained by your answer. “I’ll… do my best to be healthily jealous then. I love the way you looked at me when I said that. In your words - it was kinda hot.” He gives you a massive grin.
“Going back to our original conversation…” you give Izuku a knowing smile. “We are really weird, but I really fucking like it.”
“That’s my girl.”
… yeah, you are definitely insatiable. There is no other explanation to why are you two heavily making out in the scorching hot onsen right now, absolutely ignoring the dizziness from being in the hot water for so long.
“Jesus Christ, can you stop making out so loud?!” Comes Kyouka’s voice from the other side of the massive privacy fence. “I’m trying to relax here!”
“Wanna take this to the bedroom, Sweets?” Izuku looks at you with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
“I heard that!”
“He knows!” You yell to your friend as you crawl out of the water, stumbling to your towel while Izuku’s eyes move from your head to your toes shamelessly, clearly enjoying the “5 star view”. You really want to comment on it but after doing the same only a few hours ago, you have no rights to do so. “Come on, let Kyouka enjoy her solitude.”
“Yes, madam!”
~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~
“Yup, they fucked.” Kaminari declares with a straight face, once he opens the door.
You really want to lie and say you have no idea why Kaminari thinks that’s true, because surprisingly enough, you did look into the mirror before and coming here and you did try to sort yourself out but… there are things you can’t really hide with make up; for instance, your eyes that shine like a fucking star got stuck in your irises or Izuku’s puffy lips and pink neck, still ruddy from all the kisses.
After the onsen… you two… well… uhm…
Let’s just say you couldn’t forget how Izu said he’s never done certain things in bed and that he was always on the giving side and never on the receiving side… So once you two were inside the four walls you decided to show him some other things he might have missed. You are quite sure you lost your voice during the “process” but it was absolutely worth it and Izuku got hooked on the new type of intimacy and came up with ideas of his own and… well, yeah. You are limping a little bit. Just a tiny bit. Mostly because of all the “leg training” but there’s also that other factor that you can’t even say out loud because you two are too fucking sweet to say those things. And all of these things had happened out of love so… there is no need to make it sound dirty. You two had a good time but maybe went a bit too far. Oh well, it happens.
“I really have an urge to yell about the audacity of coming to my humble abode looking like a wreck but if I would need to suffer another day with you two eye fucking each other at my table I’d probably explode myself to the other world, so just shut up and sit down.” Katsuki mutters, also with a straight face and Eijirou just sighs at that.
“At least they are not denying it. I remember you telling everyone a week ago that you got beaten up in a “secret mission” when…”
“OH MY GOD THERE WAS NO SECRET MISSION?!” Denki hollers out loud. “
“Nope. Just me. Sorry.” Eijirou gives the group the biggest grin known to mankind, not even flinching when Katsuki slaps him in the face with a kitchen towel.
After the group is finally distracted, everyone sits down to eat another gorgeous meal made by Katsuki himself, mostly talking about hero stuff and Rody’s shenanigans. The night goes well, until Kyouka brings up the hero rankings. Izuku’s whole body stiffens next to you as Kyouka starts to talk about the dress she decided on for the big event next week; the whole gang chimes in with their own choice of clothing, showing pictures on their phones back and forth, completely indifferent to the turmoil in Izuku who just stares at his leftovers and plays with a little pea in his bowl. You wordlessly try to console him by taking his clenched hand into yours; he clenches it so hard you almost yell out loud from the pain.
Something is wrong. Really wrong.
“What are you gonna wear to the Gala, Izuku?” Kirishima asks, eyes full of excitement but it changes into a look of concern once he takes a better look at the greenette.
“I’m not going to this one.”
Someone’s butter knife hits the table. Someone chokes on their drink. Everyone processes the information differently but one thing is identical; everyone looks at Izuku like he’d grown another head.
“You can’t be fucking serious.” Kyouka looks at Izuku, utterly dumbfounded.
“You are the Number One hero of this country.” Katsuki sneers. “It’s your fucking responsibility to show your cute little freckled face and make sure people know you are still there for them.” Katsuki said these words with venom in his voice; you are extremely surprised to hear Katsuki’s tone so harsh.
“I’m not there for them though, am I?” Izuku snaps back with his eyes full of tears. “I can’t fight their battles. I can’t help them. You can’t possibly ask me to show up and be all smiley and “cute” when my whole fucking career is in shambles!”
Everyone steps back for a second. There is an awkward, tension-filled silence at the table and you have no idea what to do; Izuku’s words make sense but they also don’t and you really don’t know who to stand with.
“Like it or not, he has a point.” Eijirou puts his hand on Katsuki’s shoulder. “As you can see, he’s still not okay. Let him sit this one out. It’s not worth ruining his amazing day.”
“He ruined it for himself when he started fucking yelling at me.” Katsuki stands up from the table, clearly shaken up by the whole situation; Katsuki might look like a strong person but he’s actually really sensitive; you can clearly see how wet his eyes are when he stomps into his room and slams the door on everyone.
“Kacchan!” Izuku is the next one to leave the table, running after the blonde with nothing but guilt in his teary eyes. Everyone just stares at the drama in utter silence, not really sure how to help or what to do to save this evening.
Thankfully, the fact that everyone at this table is an grown ass adult, the drama sizzles out after half an hour; Izuku and Katsuki emerges from the bedroom after some yelling and banging is heard from the other side of the door; their eyes are red rimmed and cheeks blotchy but they have their arms around each other’s shoulders and everything looks “okay”; or at least for the rest of the group who sigh happily when the two joins the Netflix-binge on the couch. Not you, though. You look at Izuku intensely, you look at the way his mouth smiles but the edges are still facing downwards, and you realize that something is still wrong; Izuku is hiding something, from the group, and from you.
Something is wrong but everyone ignores it, too happy to have the “good vibes back”.
You really feel the urge to yell at the group to look closely, to find a solution for the problem before someone gets hurt but all these heroes worked their asses off to have these few days off and you don’t have the heart to ruin their good time nor ruin Izuku’s only time where he can be out and about, far away from those four walls he is not used to be surrounded by for more than a few hours.
Will this decision bite you in the ass in the near future? Probably. Will you regret this decision a few days later? Yes… But you can’t help but smile when Izuku’s weird half-smile becomes a real one as he sits down on the sofa, snuggles into your arms while his legs end up on Katsuki’s lap who plays with the hem of his trousers in a weird, affectionate way.
“Are you okay?” You mutter into Izuku’s ears.
“No.” Izuku admits and your whole world turns upside down. “But one day…” he looks around his friends, who are all snuggled together on the sofa enjoying each other’s company, not knowing when the next time will be when they can be together like this. “One day, I’ll be okay. And that’s good. I’m happy with that for now. Sometimes, it needs to get worse before it gets better, you know.” Izuku smiles at you with a sad, but genuine smile and your heart skips a beat once again. You are so far gone for this man it’s ridiculous.
“It will all make sense, eventually.” You leave a tiny kiss on Izuku’s fluffy curls and turn back towards the TV. “I’m not worried, because if you ever get lost, I’ll be there to show you the right way.”
“And I’m counting on it.” Izuku smiles, but somehow, the sentence brought some weird eerie vibe into the room.
You try your best to read between the lines but you feel like there is a missing piece to this puzzle.
Ahh, let’s not overthink it for today. There is always a “tomorrow” to sort that shit out.
… to be continued!
Potato ramble:
- Long time no see, guys. I know I have a lot of explanation to do but I’ll spare you from the gruesome details as I genuinely think no one deserves to even go through all the shit I’ve suffered even through another person.
But if you want to get a short version then here you are, but you don’t need to read it if you don’t want to.
The short story is: I’ve had two traumatic experiences in the last 3 years which made me extremely weak mentally but I always pushed through by saying “until this one person is with me I’ll be fine.” Well, this person stabbed me in the back in the most evil way, while I was the weakest, which ended up completely ruining me and traumatizing me once more (therapist’s words, not mine, I’m not being overly dramatic, just factual.) I live far away from my small family (2 hours with a plane) and I didn’t want to run away from my new home as I knew I’ll never have the balls to come back all alone so I had to endure all of my mental struggles without my family’s support. The only reason I’m still alive is my friends and my family who worked their asses off to keep me alive through the phone, and my work colleagues who never let me out of their sight and called me over so I don’t have time to think. I also have a therapist now which does wonders. So yeah, I literally didn’t have the mental energy to even give you guys a heads up.
I’m still struggling and I’ll probably never be the same but I’m trying my hardest; I gained all the weight back that I’ve lost (I was 45 kg to start with so me losing weight really wasn’t a good thing, I literally looked like a skeleton it was a nightmare), I started working out (in a healthy way) and I’m trying to get back to my old self. Please be patient with me.
- I have 3 or four chapters already written hence I decided to start posting again! I wanted to wait until the full story is done but I miss communicating with you and I also like to hear your thoughts before I write a chapter hence I decided to yolo it and start posting but please be patient with me. I still have breakdowns sometimes and I’m having a hard time writing about romantic things as my whole life is in shambles. But I really like this story (and the Kirishima one too! You will need to wait a little bit longer though 😭) so I decided to try and finish it.
- On a more positive note; look at my new rainbow flat! There is MHA in every single corner, even in the toilet btw, I’m living that best single life right now with my purple sofa, a magenta rug and fairy lights! With that said, see you in the next chapter! Please send me your thoughts 🩷 (Also, there is some angst incoming but this is the last one. Only good things after that!)
The Secret to Happiness
One shot
Summary: After being found wandering empty roads, you’ve found home at a prison. You’ve grown a reputation of being a constant beam of happiness. After a spontaneous night of drinking and a game of truth or dare, one question burns bright. What is your secret?
Fluff/slight angst
Word count: 1443
Pairing: Daryl x female reader (or not female only gendered term used once towards the reader is ‘miss’)
Setting: prison era - season 4
Warnings: Alcohol consumption, cigarettes
A/n: this is my first time writing in years, but it came to me in a dream. It’s also partially proof read but done so with the lack of sleep and the lack of glasses.
The night is cool as you sit cross-legged in the grass. Your skin heated from the heavy amount of Jack Daniels you have already downed. It’s safe to say, you are border-lining drunk. A constant smile is spread across your lips as you look at the group around you, illuminated by the small fire you’ve gathered around.
Maggie sat across from you. With one arm planted behind her to keep her up, Glenn lying on his side beside her, hand placed over hers. Sasha was on the other side of Maggie, with Rick beside her. On the other side of Glenn, Tyreese sat with an arm around Karen.
And finally, Beside you was Daryl. Silently taking sips of his whiskey.
“Okay!” Sasha chuckles, having just answered a question of ‘truth or dare’. “Who’s next? Daryl?”
“Nah, I’m not playin’”
“I know!” Maggie speaks up from where she’s sat, “How about little miss sunshine over here” She gestures towards you.
You lean forward slightly, grinning wide at Maggie. “Alright, give it to me!”
“Truth or dare?”
You cross one arm across your chest, the other being upwards as you tap a finger to your chin.
“Hmm. Let me think.. dare. ‘Cause I ain’t no pussy!” Laughter is heard from around the group. You keep smiling Maggie’s way. Drunk. You are definitely drunk.
“Okay,” Mirroring your grin. “I dare you… to kiss the hottest person here.”
“What are we, high schoolers?” You laugh, “Either way, I can’t do that. I’m already certain they can’t stand me, and I don’t want to do anything that’ll make them hate me more.” You say giggling, taking another sip.
“Okay then,” Maggie shifts slightly, “what’s the secret to being so happy all the time?”
“Well the thing is…” you draw your words out. still smiling wide, moving to position yourself on your knees, you can feel the cool grass making an indent on your knee where a hole has formed in your worn out jeans. “Secrets, are secret for a reason.” You beam widely.
“it’s the game, choose one.” Sasha chimes in.
You debate with yourself for a moment. Everyone awaiting your response.
“well, in that case.”
You turn to your side and place a hand under Daryl’s chin, stabling yourself as you place a short, yet sweet, kiss on his cheek.
Silence.
A surge of electricity goes straight through your chest as you quickly stand to your feet. “Well!” -anxiety- You exclaim, clapping your hands together, “I’d say that’s my queue to head off.” -panic- You brush off some grass that stayed sticking to the skin of one knee peaking through your jeans.
Everyone stuck in a trance of stunned silence.
“Goodnight!” You give a wave and make your leave.
Heart racing, your legs pull you across the grass, up through the gates. You don’t realise you’ve stopped until you’re planted on a bench in the courtyard.
You sit in a rigid silence for a few minutes. Internally screaming at yourself.
Why would you do that?
You can’t believe your actions.
You’ve had a crush on Daryl for a while now. But you never had any plans to act on it.
You were certain he could not stand you.
Anytime the two of you were left alone he’d not utter a single word. He wouldn’t even look at you.
And then there were the times you’d say something in your overly happy tone, he’d shake his head and you swear you could hear him scoff.
It seemed like he would avoid you at every chance he got, so it’s a surprise when the body that sits next to you belongs to the man himself.
You stay silent. Staring ahead. For once, not smiling.
Your peripheral vision allows you to see Daryl lighting up a cigarette. Taking a deep breathe in, exhaling the grey smoke.
He clears his throat slightly.
“Ya think I hate ya?” His voice low.
You nod, not knowing if he’s even looking at you to see, as you keep your stare ahead.
“How could I not? It doesn’t seem like you enjoy my presence very much.” Your voice is also low, a little defeated. “You won’t even talk to me.”
“Nah, I don’ hate ya. S’just- you’re so damn happy. It’s blindin’. Your blindin’.”
You don’t know what to say. So you don’t say anything. The smell of his cigarette wafting through the air.
“So wha’s the secret?”
“Hm?”
“Ta happiness.”
“Oh.” You let a small breathy laugh, looking down shaking your head.
“Uhm… I guess,” You pause, thinking for a second. “I Uhm, I don’t really know.”
Your voice gets quiet. “If I’m being honest,” you start picking at the frayed fabric of your jeans, “I don’t think I’ve ever truely felt happiness. It started as a way to distract myself from feeling any of the bad things. I somehow convinced myself that if I was going to put energy into anything, it may as well be a smile.” Daryl stays quiet beside you, “and it sorta just stuck.”
You finally turn your head to look him, but he’s already looking at you. The eye contact you hold felt heavy.
“Plus,” you break the eye contact to to stare ahead, “I think it’s better to have everyone see me endlessly happy than have them see me for what I really am.”
You both stay silent for a second before Daryl speaks up “And wha’s that?”
You turn your head to regain eye contact, your voice comes out soft, while with a small, a sad smile you state “a truely broken person.”
The two of you stay staring at each other, the faint sound of laughter can be heard from the group as a slight breeze carries the noise. Daryl bites his lip in that way he does, as his eyes flicker between yours and anywhere but you, simultaneously.
You clear your throat “I also want to say sorry.” “What for?” “For kissing you. I know it was just on the cheek, but still. I don’t want to make you uncomfortable, so I am sorry”
“nah,” he shakes his head slightly. “Don’t be.” He moves his gaze ahead of him. “Was nice”
you feel your chest flutter for moment.
Staring at him, a lopsided grin growing on your face. “Yeah?”
He gives you a side glance before nodding again “yeah.”
With a new found confidence, carried by the work of Jack Daniels still in your system, your usual cheery persona returns.
“Well, if you liked that, I know a better place.”
He turns his head to you, confusion littering his expression.
“Better place?”
Your lips stretch into a wide closed mouth smile, as you gently tap your lips.
His eyes widen slightly, staring at where your finger now rests softly upon your lips.
“Would that be okay?” You ask, softly, but still confident. His body is a still as ever, eyes lifting to make eye contact once again.
He softly nods.
You turn your body to him, taking the hand that had once been pressing a finger to your lips, and use it to rest gently against his left cheek. His eyes flutter shut as he ever so slightly leans into your touch.
Your other hand moving down to rest on the bench infront of you to aid you in leaning closer to him.
You stop just in front of his face, looking to his still closed eyes and letting out a faint breath, before your own fall shut as you close the gap. Lips pressed together, gentle.
One singular kiss causing your whole body to send signals of pure joy throughout your entirety.
You part, faces still close, eyes still shut. The soft exchange age of air passing through both of your lips, the smell of whiskey and tobacco fill your nose.
He reaches a hand up to hold you. His index finger lay just below your ear, as your jaw rests just at the base of his thumb. Pulling you back in. This time the both of you lips move together, slowly, softly.
You both stop, lips still touching. Hands still placed on either one’s face. Slowly pulling away your face away, eyes opening.
The pair of you stare at each other, not saying anything.
Hands drops as you move back to your original position, both staring ahead. A small smile stuck in place.
Beside you, you hear a soft chuckle. You turn your head to look at him “what?”
He looks at you with the faintest smile, “nothin’.. just.” He lets out another chuckle as his smile grows a little more.
“Im thinking’ I just found my secret to happiness.”
Love That Burns ~ Ending 2 ~ 68
LOVE THAT BURNS MASTERLIST
< previous chapter
Word Count: 2,380ish
Summary: A memory comes up that has you thrown into a bad place.
Notes: Please send in reactions! HELP PLAN MY NEW LOGAN SERIES HERE.
Reminder: I DO NOT do taglists. Please don’t ask. Please follow and interact! I appreciate any reblogs, likes, comments, and asks!
A few months pass with you and Logan going on more dates and spending a lot more time together than you had been previously. The two of you still haven’t kissed as you are still getting used to the idea of dating and the two of you haven’t make anything official yet. Logan respected your need to go slow. You had been in a relationship with your dead husband for decades and both of you knew going into this that this wouldn’t be easy.
Logan made his usual route over to your bar, where you were looking busy wiping down the counter. His help tilted in concern as you didn’t appear to sense him as he came closer. You usually did and lit up his whole world with that smile of yours.
“Hey, darlin’,” he greeted with a smile, hoping that it would wash away whatever was wrong.
“Oh,” you glanced up and then went back to your work, “hi, Logan.”
His brows pinched together. He couldn’t remember the last time you called him that. “You okay?”
“Fine.”
“You sure?”
“Just a long day. I’m going finish up helping the last of the customers.”
“Hey.” He reached over and gently grabbed your wrist, only to gasp. “Doll, how long have you been that cold?”
You pulled free from his grip. “Not now, Logan.” Then you rushed off.
Logan’s eyes followed, trying to see any signs that more was wrong than you just being cold. As you finished up helping customers, Logan got to his usual closing duties. He kept his eyes on you as you did your duties. You still wouldn’t look at him. After the bar was locked up, Logan threw his jacket over your shoulders and pulled it tight around you.
“I told you I’m fine,” you grumbled.
“Doesn’t matter,” he replied. “It’s my job to make sure.” You sighed, letting him pull your arms through and zip you up. “There. Better.” You folded your arms across your body, wishing that you could simply disappear. Logan put an arm around you, immediately noticing the way you tensed as he pulled you into his side. “Doll, I’m worried—“
“Can we just get home? I just want to be home.”
Logan nodded. “We can do that.”
~~~
Logan went to open the apartment door but you quickly swatted his hand away.
“Thanks for walking me home,” you said, keeping your voice as even as possible. You couldn’t look at him. “I’ll give your jacket back in the morning.”
“Y/N,” his hand gently grasped your elbow. “Please look at me. Tell me what’s wrong. Your skin is cold and you aren’t acting like normal… At least call me, Lo. Please, darlin’, talk to me.”
You sniffled, growing emotional as you pulled from his grasp. “Goodnight, Logan.” Then you slipped into the apartment, quickly locking it behind you.

Logan couldn’t sleep. Too worried about you. He got up in the morning and went to the nearest bakery and flower shop. He hoped that he could help you have a better day today. When he reached your apartment, Logan’s heart cracked a little when he found it locked. He knocked, grip tightening on the items he was holding. He didn’t know how to feel when Laura opened the door.
“Hey, Logan,” she looked sad, too, and concerned.
“I brought these for your mom,” Logan said. “Is she around?”
Laura sighed. “It’s a bad day.”
“In what way?”
“Every way, but it’s really not my place to tell you. I have to go to work and school but I don't want to leave her alone.”
“I don’t work. I’ll stay with her.”
“I don’t know, Logan. She’s… she’s really struggling today.”
“I can handle it and I’ll call you if anything happens. I promise… I just want to be there for her, whatever it is.”
Laura hesitated before nodding and opening the door wider. Logan stepped in and looked around, hoping to see you appear. The only thing he noticed was that he jacket had been tossed onto the couch with some burn marks on it. It was breaking his heart to know that you were struggling and pushing him away.
“She may remain in her room for most of the day,” Laura stated as she gathered her stuff. “She…” She glanced down the hall. “She’s only had a few days like this since I’ve been with her. But, they haven’t necessarily been this bad and having an effect on her powers like this.”
“But you know why she’s acting this way?”
“I do,” Laura nodded.
“And… are you okay?”
Laura was taken by surprise. No one had ever asked her that on your bad days. “As long as she is, I will be.”
~~~
When you finally appeared from your room, you looked like you had been crying. It broke Logan’s heart. He was sitting on the couch, tense, as he watched you move around like you didn’t see him. You glanced at the pastries Logan had set on a plate on the table. Logan could hear your stomach rumble before you took the plate and disappeared back into your room. It should have made him feel better that you were going to each something, but it didn’t. You were looking like the whole weight of the world was on you and Logan wished that he could carry it with you.
It wasn’t long before Logan could hear your sobs from your room and he began pacing. He had to do something. He paced for a while before he began to clean everything he could.
Lunch time rolled around and he grabbed some waters and made you an easy meal before heading to your door. He knocked it lightly.
“I brought you some food and drink, darlin’,” he said. He could smell a tinge of your smokey scent, causing his heart to drop. “I’m worried, doll. Please let me in.”
You didn’t answer, sobs spilling out of your room. He clenched his eyes shut, trying to stop himself from busting down the door.
“I’m just gonna leave the food out here, okay?” He continued. “I’ll be in the living area if you need me.” He bent down and left the food there before sulking away.
Logan counted the minutes until you opened the door to grab the items and disappear again. Seven minutes. At least he knew that you were getting something in you.
It was late afternoon when Laura texted and said that she would be home late. Logan told her that he had everything under control. He made dinner and set it outside her door before going back to the living area. He turned on the tv and tried not to fall asleep in case you needed him. His eyes end up winning and he falls asleep for a little while. When he does wake up, he sees you sitting at the table, tears sizzling down your face, with a bottle of whiskey you usually kept for him against your lips.
“Doll?” Logan immediately shoots up and heads for you. “Baby, what’s wrong?”
“It’s nothing,” you cry. “Please, just go home, Logan. I’m fine. I’m okay.”
Crouching down beside you, he placed a hand on your thigh. It’s warm compared to last night, but it’s not as warm as it should be. “But you’re not okay. You’re crying and you’re sad… I’m worried. Please, darlin’, tell me what’s wrong.”
“I— I— Today— I don’t want you to leave.”
“What? I’m not going anywhere, doll. Why would you—“
“Today’s the day I lost him.” The pieces click instantly for Logan and he now wishes that he had done something more for Laura as well. “It’s— It’s stupid because it doesn’t actually happen for another four years, but to me…”
“No, no, baby,” Logan shook his head. “It’s not stupid at all. You lost him, no matter what year it was. You lost him. And you have every right to be sad about that.”
“I miss him… I miss my James. Oh gosh!” You scrambled back out of the seat. “I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I shouldn’t have said that to you! I’m sorry.”
“Darling, baby, it’s alright. It’s okay.”
“No, it’s not.” Without warning, random objects around the apartment begin to go up in flames. “You don’t deserve that… You deserve better, Logan… I’m sorry that I can’t give you that.”
“Hey, hey, hey,” he came closer, watching as fire spread around your body. “Please stop that, darlin’. Stop saying those things and… and please stop burnin’ yourself.”
“Are you going to leave because I miss him?”
“Never,” he shook his head. “No… I am so grateful for your James. He took care of you and loved you and got you to me… without him, I wouldn’t have you or Laura in my life. I would have walked away from Wade and never turned back… I would never leave because you miss your husband.”
“Really?”
“Really, darlin’. You’re stuck with me.”
You dropped to your knees on the floor, fires burning all around, as you sobbed. Logan moved to mirror your position, right in front of you.
“Baby, please, I need you to try and control your powers.” He couldn’t help but notice how you were trembling and how burns were forming on your skin. “You’re hurting yourself, doll.”
“Lo… I need help…”
Logan lunged forward, flames be damned. He wrapped his arms around you and pulled you into him. “I’ve got you, darlin’… I’ve got you.”
“I smelt smoke!” Wade said, bursting into the apartment. “What’s going on?” He looked around to see various small fires everywhere. “Shit!”
“Wade, I need you to try to put the fires out. I’ve got to put her out.”
“On it!”
Wade began rushing around while Logan picked your flaming body up and carried you into the bathroom. He turned the shower on cold and climbed in under the stream, still holding you close. Your flames died and were quickly replaced with you shivering.
“Lo—Lo— I’m c-c-cold…” you stammered.
“Fuck,” he muttered. He stepped out of the shower and pulled you out of your clothes before wrapping you in multiple towels. “I’m gonna get you warmed up, baby.”
He stripped himself of his own clothes, leaving him in only boxers. He wrapped you up in his arms and carried you to your bedroom. He got you tucked in and cuddled you close to try and use his body heat to warm you up.
“All the fires are taken care of,” Wade said, peering into the bedroom.
“Thanks,” Logan responded. “Can you get me some clothes and gather supplies to take care of her burns?”
“Can do! I’ll be right back!”
“Lo…” you rasped.
He quickly shushed you. “Rest, baby. I know it hurts. I know you’re cold. I’m gonna take care of ya.” He pressed a kiss to your forehead. “I’m gonna fix this.”
~~~
“What the fuck are you wearing?” Logan asked as Wade returned with the asked items.
“What? This beauty?” Wade questioned, showing off his ‘#1 Ember Fan’ shirt. You huffed out a barely there laugh, fluttering in and out of consciousness. “Don’t worry, Peanut, I have one here for you and one for Little Wolf.”
Logan rolled his eyes, before slowly pulling himself away from you. You whined. “I’m sorry, doll. I’ve got to deal with these burns of yours before they get worse.”
“Don’t fret, Buttercup!” Wade came over and sat down beside you. “I’ll hold your hand.” He took one of your hands and pressed a kiss to the back of it.
You pressed out a smile for Wade and barely squeezed his hand. He shot you a smile before shooting Logan a concerned look. Wade never thought you could feel this cold. Logan looked away, trying to pull himself together as he slipped on the sweats Wade had brought him. He arranged all the items to take care of your burns on the nightstand at got to work. You whined, cried, and whimpered as Logan took care of your burnt skin. Both Logan and Wade told you encouraging words as it continued. But the time Logan was done, you were unconscious.
“She’s getting worse,” Wade stated as he helped Logan clean up and leave you alone to rest.
“I know,” Logan mumbled.
“How long as she been that cold?”
“I just noticed yesterday.”
“Yesterday? That happened in one day?”
Logan nodded. “Thanks for your help. I’m going to stay here in case she needs anything and wait for Laura to come home.”
“Alright, Peanut. I’ll be need door if you need anything.”
“Thanks.”
~~~
Laura came home about an hour later. She was immediately on alert as she smelt the smoke still in the air.
“What happened?” Laura fretted. “Is mom okay?”
“She’s fine. She told me what today was and freaked. Wade and I handled it.”
“So, you know?”
“I do… and I’m sorry. What can I do for you, Laura?”
Laura shook her head, tearing up. Logan came closer and pulled her in for a hug. Laura broke into sobs as Logan held her close. He kissed her head and remained silent, willing to follow her lead. When she pulled away, she quickly wiped her tears.
“Thank you, Logan,” she rasped. “For taking care of me and my mom.”
“Of course,” he replied. He glanced down the hall, eyes locked on your door. “I… I love her, you know… I never thought I would fall in love again, not after… But your mom, she just—she does things to me. She forces me to be a better man than I ever was before and it scares me. I know that I’m not good enough for her, I can’t save her from what’s coming… All I ask is that she let me love her. Let me take care of her and share this burden. That’s all I ask of her… that she let me love her.”
“She loves you, too, Logan. She just may not know how to tell you just yet.”
“She doesn’t ever have to tell me. I don’t need that from her.”
Laura nodded, finally noticing his shirt. “Ember’s #3 fan, huh?”
He rolled his eyes. “Wade has one for you too. Yours is #2.”
She scoffed. “He wishes.”
Hearts Unleashed (Part 8)
Pairing: Nick Nelson x Black!fem!reader
Warning: Fluff, Smut in later chapters, Body Shaming, Eating Disorder
Words: 4,170
I was avoiding Nick like the plague. There was no other way to put it. He tried texting me, catching my eye in the halls, walking up to me whenever he got the chance. But I dodged every single attempt. It was easy enough in class or during lunch. I could pretend I didn’t see him or conveniently slip away before he reached me.
But rugby practice was a whole different story.
No matter how hard I tried, there was no escaping him on the field. His presence was unavoidable, his laughter echoing through the locker rooms, his eyes constantly searching for me. I could feel them on me every time I turned my back, it was torture.
Getting ready for the game at St. Johns Academy, I focused on refilling the water bottles for the team, trying to distract myself from the gnawing anxiety bubbling up inside me.
Charlie approached, a cautious look on his face. "You know Nick just talked to me, right?" he said, his tone careful, like he knew exactly what this conversation could lead to.
I paused, hands freezing on the water bottle. "He did?" I asked, my voice coming out sharper than I intended. "What did he say?"
Charlie shifted uncomfortably, glancing over his shoulder as if to make sure no one else was listening. "He was checking to see if you were okay," he said slowly. "It seems to me that you’re… avoiding him."
I bit my lip, staring at the water as it overflowed, my mind racing. Of course Nick noticed. Of course he cared. But facing him after everything? It felt impossible.
"You know that Elle told me everything," Charlie continued, his voice gentle but pointed.
Of course she did. I let out a small, frustrated sigh, capping the bottle before I could spill any more. I knew Elle meant well, but it didn’t make this any less mortifying.
"She was worried," Charlie added, like it was supposed to soften the blow. "You can’t avoid him forever."
I looked Charlie in the eye "Do you think I am overeacting," I needed the truth, whether I was being irrational, or just plain stupid. To be this upset over someone who wasn’t even mine someone I wasn’t even dating. Nick had no obligation to me, but I couldn’t shake the feelings weighing at me.
I literally threw up at lunch. I hadn’t done that in a long time, and it wasn’t exactly the best time for old habits to start creeping back.
Charlie met my gaze, his brow furrowing slightly as he considered my question. "I don't think you're overreacting," he said carefully. "But..." He hesitated, choosing his words. "I think you're making it harder on yourself by not talking to him."
I swallowed hard, the knot in my chest tightening. He wasn’t wrong, but that didn’t make it easier to hear. "It's just..." I trailed off, my voice dropping. "He’s not even mine, Charlie. We’re not together, yet I’m still driving myself crazy over him. It’s ridiculous."
Charlie shook his head, his expression softening. "It’s not stupid if you care."
I opened my mouth to respond, but the memory of this morning stopped me. The lingering confusion and humiliation bubbled to the surface. No one knew about what happened. Not even Charlie, and yet, it was all I could think about.
Charlie glanced over my shoulder, his eyes shifting toward the field. "There here," he said, nodding in their direction.
I followed his gaze, spotting our friends gathered by the bleachers, "Come on," he said, gently nudging me with his elbow. "Let’s go."
Reluctantly, I capped the water bottle, and we headed over. Isaac and Elle greeted us with warm hugs, while Charlie gave Elle a quick squeeze.
Tao raised an eyebrow, feigning offense. “What about me? Where’s my hug?”
I stretched out my arms, trying not to laugh. "I can give you a hug, Tao."
He looked me dead in the eye, completely serious. "No thanks, I’m good."
I let out a small laugh, dropping my arms. "Your loss," I teased, shaking my head.
Charlie rolled his eyes playfully and shrugged, grinning. “I see you guys all the time. Me and Elle barely have period together.”
Elle then introduced Tara and Darcy to Charlie, who looked a little skeptical at first. I shot him a reassuring smile, letting him know it was fine.
Darcy sauntered over, arms wide open. "Charlieeee! My guy!" she shouted, pulling him into a hug. "Not gonna lie, I’m mostly here to meet the local gays," she added with a wink, then turned her attention to me. "And to witness a little young love in action."
"Darcy, stop," Tara muttered, clearly embarrassed.
I couldn’t believe she said that out loud. "We’re just friends, like, literally just friends," I insisted.
Darcy grinned, wiggling her eyebrows. "Friends as in friends, or FrIeNds?"
Tara buried her face in her hands. "Please, just ignore her."
Darcy shrugged dramatically. "What? I’m just pointing out the obvious… especially with Nick Nelson staring at you since we got here. I'd say there's definitely something going on."
I felt my stomach flip at Darcy's comment, but I forced a laugh, trying to shake it off. "You're seeing things," I said, glancing over at Nick. Sure enough, his eyes flicked away the moment I looked his way.
Darcy snorted. "Yeah, okay. If that’s what you want to believe."
Elle, who had been quietly observing the whole exchange, stepped in. "Maybe we should, I don’t know, change the subject?"
"I have to go warm up actually-" Charlie's voice drowned out when a group of kids from school strolled past. Their laughter and chatter seemed louder than necessary, and I barely registered Charlie’s words as my attention shifted.
Nick stood a little straighter, offering a quick wave to someone in the group. My stomach twisted as I followed his gaze and saw Imogen waving back, her smile bright and easy. She tossed her hair over her shoulder and said something to the person beside her before glancing at Nick one more time.
I didn’t realize I was holding my breath until Nick dropped his hand and shifted his weight awkwardly.
"Hey," Charlie nudged me gently, bringing me back to the moment. "You good?"
I forced a smile, but my voice betrayed me. "Yeah, just zoned out for a second."
Charlie got called back onto the field, and though he groaned dramatically, he jogged off to rejoin his teammates, leaving the rest of us on the sidelines.
I stuffed my hands into my jacket pockets, squinting as the opposing team began filing out onto the field. They were tall, muscular, and intimidatingly coordinated, even during their warm-ups.
My eyes widened, and I leaned closer to Tao. “We’re supposed to beat them?” I asked, my voice dripping with disbelief.
Tao didn’t even blink, his gaze fixed blankly on the field. “Oh yeah,” he deadpanned. “We are totally going to lose.”
And we were. It became painfully obvious within minutes of the game starting. Their team was relentless, fast, and sharp with their plays, while our side scrambled just to keep up. The scoreboard confirmed the worst: they were up. By a lot.
Elle let out a sympathetic groan, crossing her arms as she watched Charlie narrowly miss blocking a pass. “This is painful to watch.”
Isaac, ever the realist, shrugged. “I mean, at least they’re trying?”
Tao snorted. “Trying not to completely embarrass themselves, maybe.”
I couldn’t help but wince as another goal was scored against us, and the other team celebrated with an obnoxious cheer. “They’re making it look so easy,” I muttered.
Tara, standing nearby, tilted her head thoughtfully. “Maybe Charlie will pull off something amazing? He’s not bad, right?”
I didn't say anything, before even the game started Charlie looked like he was about to pass out. This is the first game he has ever been in.
Darcy nudged her, grinning. “I wouldn’t hold your breath. This is more of a ‘moral victory’ situation at this point.”
As the whistle blew for halftime, our team trudged off the field, looking thoroughly defeated. Charlie spotted us immediately, his expression taunt and pale. I waved weakly, hoping to offer some encouragement.
“We still have the second half,” Elle said optimistically.
“Yeah,” Tao added dryly. “Plenty of time to lose even worse.”
It began to rain, it quickly picked up into a steady patter, dampening both the field and everyone’s spirits. I huddled under Isaac’s umbrella, grateful for his quiet generosity. He held the umbrella just high enough to cover us both, engrossed in his copy of They Both Die at the End. I glanced at the cover and shook my head slightly, amused by his choice of reading during a game like this.
“Fitting, don’t you think?” Tao quipped from beside us, motioning toward the book. “Kind of matches the vibe out here.”
Isaac didn’t look up but smirked slightly. “It’s called atmosphere, Tao.”
Meanwhile, the team was gathered in a huddle near the bench, Coach Singh waving her arms emphatically, trying to pump them up for the second half.
Charlie lingered at the edge of the team huddle, his posture tense as if sheer willpower would be enough to carry him through the rest of the game. Rain slicked his dark hair to his forehead, his jersey sticking to his lean frame, showing just how small he seemed compared to some of the towering players around him.
But it wasn’t Charlie who kept drawing my gaze—it was Nick.
His jersey clung to him in the rain too, outlining his broad shoulders and athletic build. His hair was damp, messy in a way that somehow made him look even better. I caught myself staring, and my cheeks warmed despite the chilly drizzle.
Elle’s voice pulled me back to reality. “He looks like he’s running on fumes,” she said, her concern now sharper her eyes scanning Charlie.
“First game nerves,” I replied, trying to sound casual. “He’ll push through.”
But even as I said it, I wasn’t sure I believed it.
Darcy twirled in the rain, completely ignoring the fact that she was getting soaked. “At least the rain makes this feel dramatic! Like one of those underdog sports films where they miraculously turn it around in the last second.”
Tara rolled her eyes but smiled fondly. “Except this isn’t a movie, Darcy.”
Darcy gasped theatrically. “How dare you ruin my moment!”
I chuckled, but my eyes kept finding their way back to Nick. He moved with effortless confidence, calling plays like second nature, completely in his element. The rain had plastered his jersey to his skin, outlining the muscles in his arms, the way his shoulders tensed and flexed with every movement. His hair clung to his forehead, droplets of water tracing down his face, but he didn’t seem to notice—too focused, too determined.
Even drenched and exhausted, he looked good. Unfairly so.
And worse, he had that look in his eyes the one that sparked when he was doing something he loved, when he was alive in the moment. It was captivating, and I hated how easily it pulled me in.
“You’re staring,” Elle whispered, nudging me with her elbow.
“I’m not,” I said quickly, feeling the heat rush to my cheeks despite the cold rain.
Tao smirked, not even bothering to look up from where he was adjusting his soaked jacket. “You’re definitely staring. Its starting to be concerning”
“Leave her alone,” Isaac chimed in with a dramatic sigh. “Let them have their star-crossed, rain-soaked moment.”
Tao groaned. “Isaac, not everything has to be a romance novel.”
I rolled my eyes, brushing off their teasing, but when Nick caught my gaze again and smiled faintly, my heart skipped.
Then it happened.
Charlie went for the ball, the other guy, easily twice his size, didn’t slow down. Charlie reached out with his foot, barely making contact with the ball before he was slammed into the ground.
I flinched, my heart leaping into my throat.
“Charlie!” Elle’s voice cut through the rain as she took a step forward.
Charlie went down hard. He didn’t get back up right away. My breath caught as he lay there, unmoving for a moment that felt like forever. The ref blew the whistle, and the game paused momentarily as the coach shouted something from the sidelines.
“That was brutal,” Tao muttered.
“Someone should pull him off the field,” Tara said, her brow furrowed.
“I’m going out there,” I said, moving before anyone could stop me.
The field was a muddy mess, but I didn’t care. My focus was entirely on Charlie as I crouched beside him. He was clutching his nose now, his face twisted in pain.
“Charlie, are you okay?” I asked, my voice shaky.
He tried to smile, though it came out more like a grimace. “I think I... might’ve landed wrong.”
“Come on, let’s get you off the field.” I looped an arm around his uninjured side, helping him to his feet.
Before we could get far, Harry’s voice cut through the rain. “What are you doing? You can’t be on the field!”
I glared at him, my patience snapping. “Bite me.”
The words came out louder than I intended, and I heard a few surprised chuckles from the sidelines.
“Need some help?”
I turned to see Nick jogging over, concern etched across his face. Without waiting for an answer, he moved to Charlie’s other side, supporting him as we made our way off the field together.
The three of us trudged toward the infirmary, the rain soaking through our clothes and making the grass slippery beneath our feet. Charlie leaned heavily on us, wincing with each step, his face pale and drawn.
“Charlie, you okay?” Nick asked gently, his voice steady despite the tension in his expression.
“Yeah… just… sore,” Charlie muttered, clearly
Charlie winced as we helped him onto the examination bed in the empty infirmary. The rain still drummed softly against the windows, and the fluorescent lights buzzed faintly overhead.
“Okay, sit tight,” I said, grabbing a first-aid kit from the counter.
Nick stayed close, leaning against the bed as he studied Charlie’s face. “You’re bleeding,” he said, motioning to Charlie’s nose.
Charlie reached up to touch it, but I swatted his hand away gently. “Don’t make it worse.”
I pulled out some gauze, taking a steadying breath before crouching in front of him. “I’ve got this. I’ve watched Grey’s Anatomy enough times to know what I’m doing.”
Charlie gave a weak laugh, his eyes crinkling despite the pain. “Pretty sure that’s not the same thing.”
“Quiet, you’re my patient now,” I teased, dabbing carefully at the blood. “I’m basically Dr. Shepherd.”
Nick chuckled softly from his spot, his arms crossed. “More like Dr. Bailey. All business.”
I smirked without looking up. “I’ll take that as a compliment.”
Charlie hissed as I cleaned the cut on his nose. “Ow!”
“Stop being dramatic,” I said, though my tone was light. “You just survived a rugby game. This is nothing.”
Nick crouched beside me, his hand brushing against mine as he handed over more gauze. The warmth of his fingers sent a shiver up my spine, but I focused on Charlie.
“You’re going to be fine,” Nick said, his voice soothing.
Charlie gave him a grateful smile. “Thanks for helping me off the field. Both of you.”
I shrugged, tossing the used gauze into a trash bin. “What are friends for?”
“Saving my life, from embarrassment apparently,” Charlie joked, though his voice was tired.
Nick’s eyes lingered on me for a moment, and when I glanced up, he gave me a soft smile that made my stomach flip.
“All done,” I announced, stepping back and wiping my hands on a paper towel. “You’re patched up, but no more tackling practice for you.”
Charlie grinned weakly, still cradling his ribs. “Noted.”
Nick stood and stretched, looking over at me. “You really do have a knack for this.”
“Thanks,” I said, avoiding his eyes as I tossed the towel into the bin. “But don’t go getting tackled on purpose just so I can play doctor again.”
Nick’s laugh was warm, easy, and entirely too distracting. “I’ll try my best not to.”
I blinked, forgetting where we were. Nick’s gaze was so steady, so disarming, and I felt myself leaning ever so slightly in his direction.
A loud cough broke the moment. “Still here, guys,” Charlie said, raising an eyebrow. His expression was somewhere between amused and mortified.
I snapped back to reality, feeling my face flame. “Right. Sorry, Charlie.”
Nick rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, a sheepish grin tugging at his lips. “Uh, yeah. Sorry about that.”
Before Charlie could tease us—or worse, the infirmary door creaked open. Isaac poked his head in, holding a packet of antiseptic. His eyes darted between the three of us, his brow quirking at the strange tension hanging in the air.
“Hey,” Isaac said, stepping inside and setting the packet on the counter.
“Perfect timing, Isaac,” Charlie mumbled, pushing himself off the cot. “Thanks for the patch-up,” he added to me before quickly heading for the door. He grabbed Isaac’s arm on the way out. “Let’s go.”
Isaac frowned. “Wait, what? I just got here—”
“Trust me, you don’t want to stay,” Charlie muttered, practically dragging him out the door.
The infirmary door shut behind them, leaving me and Nick alone again, the awkwardness swirling between us like static. I glanced at him, then quickly busied myself with straightening the supplies on the counter.
The silence in the room felt heavier now, amplified by the sound of rain tapping softly against the infirmary window. I busied myself rearranging things that didn’t really need rearranging, hoping Nick would just let it drop.
But, of course, he didn’t.
Nick cleared his throat, shifting on his feet. "So, uh… you’ve been kind of distant lately."
I froze, my hands faltering with the gauze. I quickly recovered, trying to mask the unease with a shrug. "What do you mean? I’ve been busy, that’s all."
“You dont have to lie” he said firmly. “You barely look at me, you avoid being around me… and then there’s moments like earlier where it’s like everything’s fine, like old times. But it’s not, is it?”
I opened my mouth, searching for something, an excuse, anything to steer this conversation away from the truth. But the look in his eyes earnest, almost pleading made it impossible to lie outright. “I just… thought it was what you wanted,” I muttered, my gaze dropping to the floor.
“What I wanted?” Nick repeated, sounding confused. He stepped closer, his voice gentler now. “What are you talking about?”
“You said you needed space to figure things out, remember?” I said, my tone sharper than I intended. “So I gave you space. I backed off because I didn’t want to get in the way of whatever you’re trying to figure out.”
Nick blinked, his brow furrowing. “That’s not what I meant. I never said I wanted you to disappear.”
I crossed my arms, feeling the heat rise in my chest—not just from embarrassment, but frustration. “Well, it felt like that, Nick. You can’t just say you need space and then get mad when I give it to you.”
Nick ran a hand through his damp hair, exhaling sharply. “I didn’t think you’d shut me out completely! I just… I didn’t want to mess things up between us while I was figuring stuff out.”
I threw my hands up, this was getting us nowhere. “But you already did, Nick! You made everything weird, and now I don’t even know how to act around you.”
The hurt that flashed across his face was immediate, and my chest tightened with regret. His shoulders slumped as he spoke, his voice barely above a whisper. “I didn’t mean to,” he said, the words heavy with guilt. “I never wanted to make things weird between us. You’re…”
He hesitated, his mouth opening slightly like he was searching for the right words, but nothing came. His eyes met mine, full of something unspoken, something I wasn’t sure I was ready to hear. Then, just like that, he looked away, biting his lip, shaking his head.
“…Never mind.”
His words hung in the air, but they didn’t feel like enough—not with the way everything between us had unraveled. My hands dropped to my sides as I stared at him, my voice trembling under the weight of my frustration.
“What even are we, Nick? What is this? Because I don’t know anymore. I don’t know what you want from me.”
My words hung between us, thick and suffocating. He just stood there, staring at me with that look—like he wanted to say something, like he was trying to find the right words but kept coming up empty. And the longer the silence stretched, the more it stung.
“I’m sorry.”
His voice was soft, barely there, but it still hit like a punch to the gut.
And then he turned and walked away. No explanation. No fight. Just... left.
By Thursday night, I was buried under a pile of blankets, my English textbook open in front of me—not that I was actually reading it. Concentrating was impossible with the chaos unfolding across the room.
“No!” Tao groaned dramatically.
Charlie grinned, snatching a handful of Monopoly money like he’d just won the lottery. “Hand over.”
Elle sighed, glancing at the time. “It’s nearly midnight. Can we please call it a draw?”
“No, because I’m clearly winning. I just have unlucky rolls,” Tao argued.
Charlie scoffed. “No, I’m winning because I actually have more money.”
Tao shook his head stubbornly. “No, the winner is the superior businessperson, and that’s obviously me.”
Charlie smirked. “You do realize the goal is to have the most money, right? That would make me the winner.”
Tao gasped, looking scandalized. “Not if you cheated!”
“You can’t cheat at Monopoly.”
Before the argument could spiral further, Isaac, still engrossed in his book, casually nudged the board with his foot, sending game pieces scattering.
“Oh, whoops,” he said flatly.
I exhaled in relief, shooting him a grateful look. “About time. I was this close to flipping the board myself.”
Tao and Charlie stared at each other, then at the mess on the floor, before nodding in silent agreement.
“Draw,” Tao decided.
“Draw,” Charlie echoed.
Elle let out a dramatic sigh of relief. “Thank God.”
My phone buzzed.
Mom: Don’t eat too many snacks. It’s not healthy. It makes your face look puffy.
I stared at the screen, my jaw tightening.
Then, my gaze flickered to the empty bowl in front of me. Well—technically, the second empty bowl. Too late for that.
My grip tightened around my phone.
This wasn’t new. Mom had always been like this. Watching what I ate. Making little comments. Warning me about too much sugar, too many carbs, too many snacks. Even before things got bad—before my health actually became something to worry about—she was always there with reminders. Do you really need a second helping? That’s a lot of bread. Maybe just one, okay?
At first, it was easy to brush off. She was just being a mom, right? Looking out for me. But then it became constant. The way her eyes would flick to my plate at dinner. The way she’d swap out everything for low-calorie versions and pretend it was the same. The way she’d remind me, again and again, like I couldn’t be trusted to make my own decisions.
And now? After everything I’d been through—she still thought this was something she needed to police. Like I wasn’t already aware of my own body every second of every day. Like I wasn’t already carrying enough.
I swallowed hard, my stomach twisting.
My appetite had finally come back—something I’d told myself was a good thing. After everything—all the stress, all the confusion… after Nick—eating again had felt normal. Comforting, even.
But now, staring at the message, that familiar pang of guilt crawled under my skin, settling in my chest like a weight I couldn’t shake. Like I’d crossed some invisible line. Like I’d done something wrong.
“Everything good?” Tao’s voice cut through the fog in my head.
I blinked, forcing a shrug. “Yeah,” I muttered, pushing my phone aside like it wasn’t still burning a hole in my mind. But the words stuck in my throat, bitter and tight.
Elle shot me a look—long, knowing—but didn’t press. Instead, she stretched and stood. “I think that’s enough Monopoly-induced suffering for one night. Who’s up for a movie?”
Charlie perked up immediately. “Only if I get to pick.”
Tao groaned. “Not another sci-fi movie, please.”
The conversation swirled around me, easy and familiar, but I wasn’t really there. My fingers hovered over my phone screen, the words typed out but unsent. Then, with a sigh, I locked it and shoved it deep into my pocket.
I didn’t feel like replying.
“A Breath of Truth”
Sturniolos x sister reader
Warnings : vaping , confronting, and i think that’s it…
It was a typical afternoon in the Sturniolo household—Nick was editing a video on his laptop, Matt was mindlessly scrolling through his phone, and Chris was rummaging through the kitchen for a snack. Everything seemed normal until Matt’s voice broke through the quiet.
“Yo, where’s Y/N?” he asked, looking up from his phone.
“Probably in her room,” Nick replied, not looking away from his screen.
Chris, grabbing a bag of chips, shrugged. “She was acting kinda weird earlier, though. Like, dodging eye contact and stuff.”
Matt furrowed his brows. “You think something’s up?”
Before anyone could answer, Chris’ eyes narrowed. “Hold on.” He sniffed the air, his expression turning dark. “Do you smell that?”
Nick and Matt exchanged glances, then sniffed. There was a faint, sweet scent lingering in the air—one that definitely didn’t belong to anything in the house.
Chris didn’t wait for a consensus. He was already walking toward Y/N’s bedroom, his jaw clenched. The other two followed quickly behind him.
Chris knocked once before swinging the door open. And there she was—Y/N, sitting by the window, a sleek vape in her hand.
Her eyes widened in shock. “Crap,” she muttered under her breath, scrambling to hide it, but it was too late.
Chris’s face turned red with anger. “Are you kidding me?”
Matt blinked in disbelief. “Y/N, what the hell?”
Nick sighed, rubbing his temples. “Please tell me that’s not what I think it is.”
Y/N looked down, ashamed. “It’s—it’s not a big deal.”
Chris scoffed, his hands on his hips. “Not a big deal? You’re sixteen, Y/N. Do you even know what’s in that thing? What it does to you?”
Y/N crossed her arms, avoiding their stares. “It’s just vaping, Chris. Everyone does it.”
“That’s the worst excuse you could possibly use,” Matt muttered, shaking his head.
Nick sat down on the edge of the bed, his expression softer but still serious. “Y/N, we’re not trying to gang up on you, but this isn’t okay. Why are you even doing this?”
Y/N hesitated before mumbling, “I don’t know. Just stress, I guess.”
Chris exhaled sharply, pacing the room. “So you think the way to handle stress is inhaling chemicals you don’t even understand? That’s not control, Y/N. That’s the opposite of control.”
Y/N finally looked up, frustration flashing in her eyes. “You don’t get it, Chris! It’s not like I’m doing drugs or something crazy—”
“Vaping is still bad for you!” Chris snapped. “And yeah, maybe it’s not ‘crazy,’ but that doesn’t mean it’s not dangerous! You’re better than this.”
Nick reached over and placed a hand on Y/N’s arm. “Look, we all get stressed, alright? I do, too. But this? This isn’t the answer.”
Matt, who had been quiet for a moment, finally spoke. “Y/N, you’ve always been the smart one. The one who calls us out on our dumb decisions. And now you’re acting like this isn’t a big deal?”
Y/N bit her lip, her defenses starting to crumble.
Chris ran a hand through his hair, his voice softer now but still firm. “You need to take care of your body, Y/N. You only get one. I just—” He sighed. “I don’t want to see you mess that up.”
A long silence stretched between them before Y/N finally whispered, “I’m sorry.”
Matt nodded. “We’re not mad at you. Well, Chris is, but—”
Chris shot him a look, and Matt put his hands up in surrender.
Nick smiled slightly, trying to lighten the mood. “We just want you to be okay. That’s all.”
Y/N took a deep breath and nodded. “I won’t do it again. I promise.”
Chris crossed his arms, eyeing her carefully. “You better mean that.”
Y/N cracked a small smile. “I do.”
Matt clapped his hands together. “Alright, now that we’ve had our dramatic intervention, can we all go get food? I feel like we need comfort snacks.”
Nick rolled his eyes but stood up. “That actually sounds like a good idea.”
Chris hesitated for a second before sighing and ruffling Y/N’s hair. “Just don’t scare us like that again, okay?”
Y/N smiled. “Okay.”
And with that, the four of them headed out, the weight of the conversation lingering but the bond between them stronger than ever.
“I’m so incredibly proud of you.” - Charlastor
Bargaining (AO3)
He’d kept it together long enough to see the rebuilt hotel and show the others that he did survive, but the moment Alastor noticed that they had included his radio tower in the design, he collapsed.
*
He awoke in a bedroom that was both familiar and not. I see they did their best to recreate my room. It’s adequate, I suppose. The only thing missing was the bayou but that was to be expected – none of the others had the magical ability required. Alastor tried to rise to his elbows to get a better at the room but realized two things – he didn’t have the strength to do even that much and his chest wound was wrapped in bandages under a red pinstripe pajama top he knew he didn’t buy himself. A quick glance under the bedclothes confirmed he was also wearing the matching bottoms.
A chair pulled up beside the bed was the only other sign that someone else had been in the room. It was currently empty but the throw blanket tossed onto it was evidence of someone keeping vigil at his bedside. Rolling his eyes at the sentimentality, he tried once more to rise to his elbows only to collapse again.
“Are you always this stubborn?” Charlie asked from the doorway, her tone somewhere between fond and exasperated but closer to the latter.
Alastor eyed her with just as much exasperation and, he was reluctant to admit, even more fondness. “You’ve known me longer than two minutes and you still feel the need to ask that?”
She chuckled as she sat down on the edge of the bed. “I convinced my dad to get the best doctor in the Sloth Ring to take care of your wound. She’s never seen anything like it.”
“Yes, well, I pride myself on being one of a kind,” he muttered.
“Al … you were dying,” Charlie said gently. “The wound was infected. The doctor tried everything but even she couldn’t help.”
He raised an eyebrow. “Then how am I still alive?”
“I ... um…”
Alastor covered his eyes with one hand. “Charlie, please tell me you didn’t make a deal.”
“It wasn’t for my soul, just a promise, I swear!”
He moved his hand to uncover one eye. “With whom?”
“My dad.”
That confused him enough to remove his hand fully and try to sit up again. Charlie, apparently sensing a losing battle, helped him rise then arranged the pillows behind him. Once Alastor was settled again, he glared at her. “What, exactly, did you do?”
“I asked my dad to heal you.”
He winced at the thought of Lucifer holding this over him for the rest of eternity then he eyed her suspiciously. “In exchange for what?”
“Does it matter?” she asked evasively.
“OF COURSE IT MATTERS!” Alastor roared. It was only when she shrunk away that he calmed down. “Charlie, forgive me. Whatever you promised him, take it back – my life isn’t worth it.”
“Of course it is!” Charlie said vehemently. “You did exactly what I asked of you – you went toe-to-toe with Adam, a fucking angel, and you made a shield to protect the rest of us. I’m so incredibly proud of you, Al.”
He raised an eyebrow. “I failed.”
“You held out much longer than anyone else would have, and you did it for all of us.”
He looked away, saying quietly, “No, I did it for you.” After a moment, he looked back at her, sudden fear tying his stomach in knots but he did his best to hide it by being stern. “What did you promise, Charlie?” It was more of a command than a question.
She rolled her eyes. “My dad is being ridiculous.”
“Charlie…”
“He made me promise to never marry you, okay?”
There was an audible crack as his jaw dropped then he sputtered, “Wha- Why would he- That’s ridiculous! We’re not even-“
“I know! I tried to tell him but he’s convinced we’re in love.” Charlie closed her eyes and pinched the bridge of her nose. “Look, Al, you and I both know we’re not, so it’s no big deal, right?”
He raised an eyebrow, his grin spreading to something wicked. “Your father didn’t hold up his end of the bargain.”
She eyed him. “What do you mean?”
“He didn’t heal me.”
Charlie frowned in confusion. “He took away the infection.”
“Yes, but I’m obviously not healed,” Alastor said, gesturing to his bandaged chest.
“He said you’ll have to heal on your own.”
“But that wasn’t part of your deal, now, was it?”
She stared at him. “You’re right. Oh, that two-timing-”
He smirked. “As much as I hate your father, I suggest you not say anything about him that you’ll regret later. Simply point out to him that he didn’t hold up his end of the bargain so there’s no need for you to hold up yours.”
“You’re absolutely right,” Charlie said as she got up and headed for the door. It wasn’t until she was halfway down the hall that he heard her say, “Wait, what?”
Alastor merely chuckled to himself. Lucifer saw something that simply wasn’t there but perhaps…
“God, I cannot believe this is what my life has come to! I must be the unluckiest person on earth when it comes to love!” the young lady moaned, drowning her sorrows in yet another tequila shot, as her friends coaxed her, telling her no, she’s not unlucky, she just hadn’t found the right guy.
“Come on, guys, there were ten of them in that group, not even the frumpiest one took a second look at me!” she continued, gesturing at the bartender to give her another, looking longingly at a group of young men who were, at the time, shamelessly ogling at a group of ladies your age walking by in kaftans that might as well have not been there – the barely there bikinis clearly visible through the flowy, see-through materials.
“I think they just preferred older ladies, sweetheart,” her friend said, slyly pushing the freshly poured tequila out of the way. “How about we get you some coffee huh? It’s not even five yet, sweetie. We’re in Bali! Let’s enjoy our time here, okay?”
The young lady scoffed, “As if I could, knowing that Ed is currently unloading his stuff into the whore’s apartment!”
The ladies surrounded her with hugs and coos, telling her to forget that bastard, let’s enjoy the holiday, okay?
“I’m telling you, I challenge anyone, ANYONE!” she yelled out to the entire bar, which went quiet for a bit before breaking into it's buzz again, “To tell me they are unluckier than me when it comes to love. Heck, I bet you a thousand bucks no one has it worse than me.”
You couldn’t help yourself. You snorted into your drink.
And just like that, five pairs of eyes snapped towards you.
“You taking the challenge, lady?” the young lady slurred, despite her eyes being so sharply trained on you.
“I don’t know,” you said, turning your body towards them. “Let’s hear your story, and then I’ll decide if mine is worth telling.”
She adjusted herself to be a bit more stable in her seat, taking a deep breath.
“Well, let’s see. My parents divorced and remarried and divorced again before I was ten, married and divorced so many other people I’ve lost count of how many step parents I have, shutting me up with money to keep me happy. I’ve been with my ex Ed since high school, thought I would finally have some stability in life. We went to college together, birds of a feather, all that. I thought we were golden. Ten years! And a month ago, I found out he had been cheating on me all along with his girl best friend, the one he kept telling me to not worry about. The one who was supposedly seeing someone else that conveniently, didn’t have a name, or had never been introduced to us despite the fact that we all grew up together. I came home early one night and found them in our bed, that I paid for, in my house, that I bought!”
“And you know what’s worse? He actually told me he stayed with me for my money! She didn’t have the money, nor the education to help him out financially, so now that we’ve all graduated and working, he can provide for her! So bubbye me, hello filthy whore who stood by and let him flirt with and later fuck someone else for ten years just so that he could have a roof over his head and money in his pocket! And now, I’m on vacation, where I can’t even find one man who would hook up with me!”
She burst into tears.
You wanted to laugh, but managed to rein yourself in.
“How old are you sweetie?”
“23,” she answered through sobs, her friends clamouring to give her tissues.
“Oh, sweetheart…” you said, refraining yourself from calling her a ‘sweet summer child’, “You have a long way to go, I’m afraid. Life’s gonna throw so much more shit at you before you find happiness.”
Her sobs lessened as she asked you, “How old were you when you finally found it?”
You smiled, lifting your hands, crossing both sets of your forefinger and middle finger together, “Any day now.”
Somehow, that gesture put a smile on her face, although it may have been from pity. “So, you wanna take me on my challenge?”
You thought to yourself, why the hell not. Better out than in, right? So you ordered another margarita and told the five young ladies your story.
**********
You were the product of a drunken mistake. Your parents were going through a divorce, and one night of drinking too much at a party in an attempt to be civil with each other ended with you in your mother’s womb. They divorced anyway, but at first, agreed to co-parent.
About two weeks after you were born, your Dad met Frank. Your mother didn’t take it well when she found out. As you grew up, it became evident that she hated you, the only love you ever received from her household was from your Grandparents. She completely ignored you, chastising you for everything that went wrong in her life. So as you began to understand your surrounding more, you started avoiding her, knowing that you were not welcomed in her vicinity, going to your Grandparents with your cuts and woes, throwing tantrums when your Dad dropped you off after spending the weekends at his and Frank’s.
When school started, your Dad wanted you to stay with him and Frank, wanting to enrol you in the school where Frank taught, the best school in the county. Your mother fought tooth and nail against it, though it took you a long time to understand why. Not like she had to pay for it. Not like she spent any time with you when you were home with her. It was a miracle your Dad refrained from taking her to the courts over it, thinking of the trauma it would put you through. When you turned ten, your Grandma passed away, leaving your mother quite a bit of money. She used some to purchase a house nearer to your Dad’s. Just a few streets away from that school he wanted to enrol you in. One would think it was for your benefit, but no.
See, she had decided that she simply needed another child to be happy. So she adopted your sister, Nell, who was five at the time. Nell, apparently, had more promise than you, so she would actually benefit from that expensive school, but not you. Your Dad was furious, so was your Grandpa, and the two of them enrolled you at the school anyway. And oh, she was going to have to pay for Nell’s fees herself. Your Dad only agreed to pay for you. After all, he didn’t adopt Nell. She did. Boy oh boy was your mother displeased. So how did she repay him?
By making your life as miserable as she could.
Anything your Grandpa or Dad bought you, became Nell’s. Mommy-daughter days consisted of her and Nell going places, eating the finest foods, while you sat in the car. Your birthdays consisted of nothing from her, but Nell’s deserved a bouncy castle and a petting zoo. You had to eat TV dinners, while Nell got homecooked meals made from scratch with the finest ingredients.
And what did your Grandpa and Dad do?
Nothing.
They did nothing, because you told them nothing. You were puzzled by the way your mother treated you, wanting to earn her affection, convinced that you had done something wrong to earn her wrath, so you didn’t say anything. She always sent you to your Dad’s and Grandpa’s in your finest clothes, the ones they bought for you, the ones that Nell was too little to fit into. And because you never complained, they were none the wiser.
You had your first boyfriend when you were 16. Kyle. He was sweet. Your Dad, Grandpa and Frank loved him. Your mother? Not so much. Why? Because see, your sister, the 11 year old, had a crush on him. And you were standing in the way of her happiness. She did everything she could to get Kyle away from you. He didn’t budge, though, the sweet boy that he was.
But then, he was also your first heartbreak.
He was your first. The two of you had gotten a motel room prom night. You thought the night went well, for your first time. But you woke up to him crying at the foot of the bed, fully dressed.
He told you he was gay.
He had suspected, for quite a while, but didn’t want to believe it, not when his parents were the way they were.
And how did your mother react to the revelation? When you went home crying to her? She laughed. She told you it served you right for turning your own Dad gay. He wasn't before you came along. And then you arrived, and voila! Bill and Frank happened. Clearly, that was your doing.
And that was the day you found out the reason she hated you so much. Turned out, she had hoped that she and your Dad would reconcile after your birth. Instead, he found Frank. Naturally, it was your fault. At two weeks old.
Your Dad and Grandpa almost killed Kyle, but when they found out his own father had kicked him out of the house for being gay, your Grandpa took him in, even paid for his college tuition. Try as you might, you couldn’t find it in yourself to hate him, much less be angry at him. So Kyle remained in your life, one of your best friends to this day.
And the boyfriends that came after him?
Well, the second and third boyfriend you had was during your early college years, just a few months each. Both broke up with you without explanation after meeting your mother and Nell. It seemed they were uncomfortable with the fact that your underaged sister liked to accidentally run into them while half-naked in the house when you were asleep, or that one of them woke up to her touching him inappropriately while he was sleeping on the couch, something your mother insisted, claiming she didn’t trust you enough to not whore around under her roof. You didn’t even find out until years after. They were just so uncomfortable they didn’t even want to tell you.
Eric, your fourth boyfriend whom you met at 21 managed to remain your boyfriend for a whole year. He was the first man you were in love with. He was the greatest. So caring, loving, romantic. He was the first person you actually started dreaming of a future with. You made plans with him. You were all set to move in together after graduation, saving money on the side to purchase your own place together, start a life together. You thought you were set. You were wondering if your mother or Nell had said something to your previous boyfriends, so you refrained from taking him home to meet them.
But your mother guilted you into coming home for her birthday, where shockingly, she insisted that Eric stay with you in your old room rather than the couch. She and Nell were so nice to him you actually thought they were turning a new leaf.
Well, you thought wrong. Nell went to bed early, but your mother, you and Eric celebrated until well near midnight. Eric went up first, drunk from all the wine your mother kept pouring into his glass. Your mother had asked you to help her with the dishes after the little celebration, and you walked into your room an hour later to a passed out Eric sleeping on your bed, your sister wrapped around him.
Naked.
When you screamed at them, Eric woke up, confused, immediately pushing Nell off him when he realized it was her, and not you. She had visited him in the dark room naked while you were downstairs, and he was drunk. He thought it was you.
Nell was sobbing, telling your mother that he had willingly taken her virginity, and now he was denying it. Your mother screamed at you to get out, telling you how worthless you were for bringing him into her home.
He swore to you he was innocent, and you believed him. But the two of you could never bounce back from the incident. So you broke up, both of you heartbroken. You didn’t see him for a few weeks after that.
Until your mother called and asked to meet. When you got there, Eric was there too, confused at what was going on, not understanding why your mother had contacted him too.
Nell was pregnant.
Your mother demanded he marry her. He refused, only to be met with the threat of a police report, for raping a minor.
You could see Eric’s face turn white. Nell was a few months shy of 17. She was underaged. And there was no evidence to show she had done what she did, although you never doubted his version of the story. Even she didn’t deny it. But now the story had changed. She now insisted that he had raped her. And there was nothing he could do to prove otherwise. Not even your Dad, who ran his own law firm, could help him.
Despite your break up, you were devastated. You loved him. And now you had to watch him marry your underaged sister? You’d decided to attend so that he would have someone on his side. No one was there for him. His parents disowned him. His friends left him. Everyone believed he was a child rapist. You pleaded with them to believe him. You did. Why couldn’t they? They called you an enabler. Accused you of setting the whole thing up. Of trapping him to get into your mother and sister’s good graces. You felt helpless. So you went to the bathroom to cry it out after yet another futile last minute attempt to get his parents to at least see reason.
Your mother walked in and found you, shouting at you to stop being so dramatic and be happy for your sister. “Be thankful to her,” she said. “At least now he won’t turn gay. You know it was a matter of time before you turned him too.”
You could only sit and watch as the two of them got married. Conveniently, she lost the baby a week later. And when Eric tried to annul the marriage, the threat of statutory rape was again waved in his face. And just like that, Eric, the man you were in love with, the man you had planned a future with, the one who was going to be a doctor, ceased to exist.
A new man replaced him. One who was drunk all the time. Who did drugs. Who dropped out of college and couldn’t hold on to a job. Your heart broke every time you saw him. Any attempt to help him was met with accusations of trying to steal him away from Nell. And he was just as stubborn, refusing to hear you, refusing help, refusing any kind of hope altogether. Three whole years you tried. Every single day, you tried. It came to a point where he didn’t even answer your calls. Refused to see you at all, holed up in your old bedroom, which he apparently moved into after he and Nell married, having nowhere else to go.
So you gave up. You had to. You couldn’t possibly help someone who didn’t want to be helped. And the headache your mother and sister was giving you, all the accusations, all the snide remarks about wanting him back, not to mention bringing up Kyle and your Dad over and over again, were not doing you any good.
Shamefully, you didn’t cut contact with them, still yearning for your mother’s approval, even if she had made it quite clear through her actions that you would never receive it. You hoped. You distanced yourself, but you stayed in touch.
But then, a year later, your Grandpa passed. He left you everything. His properties, his money, everything. He had learnt of your mother and Nell’s antiques by then. Not one cent was given to your mother or Nell. That, it seemed, cemented your mother’s hatred for you. She took you to court, unsuccessfully. Your Grandpa’s will was ironclad. And your mother declared, right there outside the court building, that you were no daughter of hers.
So you stopped trying. No more.
You moved on. Graduated, moved to another city, started your Masters, and met Andrew.
Five years later, you were living the life in this new city. Your life with Andrew couldn’t be more perfect. You moved in with him, and for once in your life, you were happy. Really happy. You loved him, and he, you. Your Dad and Frank loved him, and he, them. His family loved you, and you, them. You had completed your Masters and was carefully planning to open your own business, which he fully supported, free-lancing in the mean time for the experience. Your mother and Nell were no longer in your periphery, although you did tell him about them. Your Dad and Frank travelled to the city often to see you, they were even present when Andrew proposed to you. He had thoughtfully called them and flew them in. Them, and your best friend Maria. They and his family were hiding, surprising you with their presence when you said yes. For the first time in your life, at age 30, you were deliriously happy.
But as the wedding approached, he changed. He got distant, coming home later and later, sometimes not coming home at all, blaming it on work stress. Big project, he said, deadlines, the likes. And like an idiot, you believed him.
That was until he didn’t show up at the wedding. Just ghosted you. Just like that.
As you sat in your living room, crying your eyes out, Maria, your Dad and Frank, his family with you, trying their hardest to calm you, you wondered what went wrong. Calls went unanswered, texts unread. They all stayed with you for two whole days after the wedding, and he was nowhere to be found. You woke up on the third day to his family angrily packing their things to leave, demanding you return the heirloom ring he had given you when he proposed, and they too, left without an explanation, telling you that you should be ashamed of yourself, not answering any of your questions, nor your dad’s.
So here you were, in Bali, on what was supposed to be your honeymoon, but instead of your new husband, you were here with your best friend Maria, who was passed out from jetlag in your fancy honeymoon suite. You still had no idea what happened. Still clueless. But, as tired as you were, you couldn’t sleep. So you decided to drink your sorrows away, hoping that alcohol could help you sleep, drinking one cocktail after another, listening to the young lady’s sorrows.
**********
You downed the rest of your now watery and warm margarita, taking a deep breath, finally looking at the five pairs of eyes, all of which were now downturned with pity.
“So, did I win? I could use a grand to drink myself to death in the next week.”
They all stared at each other, taking a deep breath.
The young lady who had challenged you lunged at you, hugging you, sobbing for your misfortune. “I’m so sorry! God, your mother and sister are awful people! I’m so glad you cut them off! And your fiancé, what a jerk! At least have the balls to tell you why!”
The other ladies nodded, eyebrows scrunched, unable to think of anything to say to you. The young lady gave her card to the bartender, telling her to put a thousand dollars on your credit. You waved her hand away, telling her you were kidding. That she didn’t need to pay for anything. You just needed to rant. Make sure you weren’t overreacting, that your life was indeed, a disaster, that what you were feeling, all the hopelessness, the anxiety, the depression, were all warranted, expected, justified.
They vehemently agreed with you. Yep. Definitely justified. The young lady insisted that she at least buy you a drink, just because. You declined, telling her you were alright. “Go, enjoy your vacation,” you told her. “Your life may suck, but at least it’s way better than mine.” You picked up your little purse and got up to sleep the evening away, feeling a lot lighter now that you had unloaded it all on these girls.
“Wait,” the young lady said, holding her hand out to you. “I’m Tracy.”
You smiled, taking her hand. “Aria,” you told her.
“I hope you enjoy your vacation too, Aria, and not let those jerks in your life take this beautiful place away from you,” she said, giving you one more hug.
**********
You laid in the hammock on your balcony, wondering how the fuck your life had gone the way it did. Why did he just leave? What did you do? Was it so bad that he didn’t even think you merited an explanation? Were you supposed to know already but didn’t get it? You searched your brain, thinking about anything you might have missed. Did you perhaps say something? Do something he didn’t like that he had always complained about and he just snapped and couldn’t take it anymore? Was there an ongoing argument that slipped your memory? Did you take too much money from the joint account? Did you scratch his car?
So many questions popped up in your mind. It was making things up as it went along, asking this and that, seeing if that was a possibility of him just deciding to leave without so much as a goodbye. Was it Kyle? Was it your friendship with Kyle? It was, wasn’t it? He didn’t like that you and Kyle were watching that show together, Face Timing as you did, even when he was a good 500 miles away from you? That was it, right?
But he liked Kyle. He even called Kyle himself to invite him to the wedding. But Kyle couldn’t make it, his husband Ethan, who, incidentally, was your colleague first – you introduced them - was in an accident and had to be hospitalized. He only cancelled two days before the wedding, though. And Andrew had been distant for a few months.
Did you cheat on him with someone? Did you? You didn’t think so, but what if you forgot? Nah… that couldn’t possibly be, right?
Did you badmouth him to someone? Nag him? Shout at him?
Shit. Did he cheat on you?
That must be it, right? He found someone else and ran away with her? Or him? With your track record, you never knew. But who?
Could it be that new woman who joined his team? The one you met at the company dinner some time ago, she was just a week in, if you were not mistaken. The time sort of lined up. Vanessa, that’s her name, maybe. Or was it Valerie? He mentioned her maybe once, but you didn’t really know for sure. Oh, Vivian? Nope… Veronica? Didn’t sound right.
Danielle. That’s it.
But Danielle was happily married, you thought. You met her husband. Oh, well… Andrew was happily engaged. Rings and marriage certificates wouldn’t stop cheaters. Right?
You felt as if someone squeezed your heart tight. You were happy. That’s what you thought. And he seemed happy too, up until these last few months. You felt blindsided. You didn’t even know what went wrong. You didn’t even have a definite answer. You didn’t even know where to go from here.
The house was his, it’s in his name, he was going to add you to the mortgage once the marriage was finalized. And now, what? You didn’t have a permanent job. There was a business plan, but now that Andrew had left, you didn’t know if you wanted to go through with it. He planned it all – what if he sued you for profit if you used the plan? Money was no issue, even if you stopped free-lancing. You had rental income from your grandpa’s properties, now yours, and there was the money he left you. But truth be told, the idea of going back to live in that city was giving you so much anxiety already you didn’t know what to do. What if you ran into him? You couldn’t go back to your old town, even the idea of being near your mother or Nell gave you itches, as much as you wanted to be near your Dad and Frank again.
What the fuck were you going to do?
Just four days ago you thought you would be here lying in this hammock with the love of your life. But now…
“Girl, I can hear you think from jetlag-land,” your best friend’s voice brought you back to reality. She came to join you on the hammock, laughing uncontrollably with you as the hammock swerved and tilted dangerously, threatening to throw you off as she climbed in and put her arm around you. You snuggled into her embrace, thankful she dropped everything to be here with you, although she insisted she was the one benefitting from this trip.
You fell asleep for a few hours and decided to order room service. You didn’t feel like meeting people. Frankly, although telling Tracy and her posse your story was therapeutic, you were rather worried that you would repeat that self-pity parade, and you didn’t want to. Where would that bring you?
But Maria begged you to come down with her. “We’re in Bali babes! Come on! mingle! Who knows, you might even meet someone to distract you!”
So you got dressed and went with her, making her promise not to make you meet anyone new. Dinner, a couple of drinks, and we will come straight up, right? Cross my heart, she said.
The restaurant was full, so the two of you made your way to the bar to wait. As you were deciding which drink to muddle your broken-hearted thoughts with, two glasses of vodka sodas were placed in front of you.
“We didn’t order these,” you quickly said.
“Courtesy of the gentlemen at the end of the bar,” she said, pointing at two men sitting together, another bartender handing them a glass of whiskey each, saying something to them while doing so. They looked at you, one looking much chirpier than the other, raising their glasses and taking a drink, looking impressed at what they were tasting.
“Oh, the one with the long hair is cute,” Maria cooed, raising her glass at them.
Well, a free drink was not a bad thing, you thought, following suit, thanking them for the drink from afar, a half-hearted smile accompanying it.
You were not even halfway through your drink when the long haired guy came to Maria.
“Hi, are you two waiting for a table too?” he asked.
“Why, yes we are,” your lawyer best friend answered, head cocking to one side, unnecessarily fixing her hair and dress, batting her eyelashes at him.
The fuck? What happened to not meeting anyone?
“Well, my brother and I just got a table, care to join us?”
“Oh, you’re so kind. We’d be honoured!” she picked up her glass and immediately went after him, taking his offered arm in hers. His brother was at the table, looking grumpy as fuck, seemingly not looking forward to dinner with a couple of strange women after all.
If you were to see your own reflection at that point, you would see the exact same look on your own face.
But… you were in a strange country, and your normally straight laced and serious lawyer best friend went through that vodka soda like it was water, so you shouldn’t leave her alone with the men who bought you alcohol. So reluctantly, you picked up your drink and followed her, who was already seated and talking to the long-haired guy as if she’d known him forever.
The grumpy one got up when you approached the table, pulling a chair for you, both of you still looking and feeling supremely annoyed at this sudden company for dinner. You gave him a reluctant smile, which he sort of returned. The two of you sat there quietly, hands on your glasses, waiting for your platonic companions to realize the table was now full. But all was in vain. The two seemed to think no one else was in the restaurant but each other. So you just got the waiter’s attention and told him what you wanted, and the Grump did the same before kicking his brother’s foot under the table, the latter and your best friend finally looking away from each other to order.
Dinner was quiet, at least on you and the Grump’s end. Maria and the brother didn’t stop chatting at all. When you finished eating, you told Maria you were going for a walk on the beach and then straight to bed. You doubted she even heard you, waving a hand at you without looking, still transfixed on the long-haired guy, who seemed equally besotted by her. You called the waiter again for the bill, but the Grump insisted on paying, grumpily, of course, just as you insisted the same, equally annoyed.
“No, you paid for the drinks, so it’s only fair…” both of you said at the same time.
Wait, what?
Your grumpy looks went away for a while, confusion taking over.
“We didn’t buy you your drinks,” both of you said, again, parroting each other.
Maria and long-haired guys stopped talking.
“Wait, we were told you bought us our drinks,” Maria said.
“We were told you bought us our drinks,” long-haired guy said.
The two of them suddenly got extremely giggly, at which point the grumpy looks on yourself and the Grump returned at full force.
When the waiter got to you, you asked for the bill, but he told you that your bill was already taken care of.
“By whom?”
“The person wishes to remain anonymous, Miss,” the waiter said, picking up the empty glasses, asking if you’d like anything else.
“Erm, no, nothing for me,” you said, still confused. Maria and Tommy mentioned they would like to go to the bar, have a drink or two. So you picked up your purse, asked the waiter to thank your benefactor for the four of you, and told Maria you were going for a walk, seeing as she didn’t really hear you the first time.
You were almost out the door when you realized the Grump had followed you. You stopped abruptly and turned to him, aggressively asking him what he was doing.
“I was just going back to my room,” he said, hands up as if worried you were going to shoot him.
Oh.
“You were going to the beach?” he asked.
“Yeah.”
“Let me walk you to the gate, at least? It’s dark.”
“I’m a big girl, Mr Grump, I think I could manage,” you said, before you could stop yourself, clapping your hand to your mouth at the realisation.
But before you could even apologize, he laughed. A pure, unadulterated, belly laugh. And suddenly, something shifted in you.
“I know you could, Ms Grump, didn’t mean it like that. My Mama would kill me if I didn’t offer,” he said, making you laugh yourself.
Two grumps on a holiday in Bali. Wonderful.
A group of ladies walked past, and you saw Tracy, smiling meaningfully at you, winking as she passed by, her posse giggling uncontrollably among themselves.
“You know them?” the Grump asked.
“We’ve met,” you told him. “Well, goodnight, Mr Grump,” you said, walking towards the beach.
“Good night, Ms Grump,” he said right back, standing there with his hands in his pocket until you disappeared through the gates.
When you got back about 30 minutes later, he was sitting in the lobby, still dressed in the same clothes he was wearing. Clearly, he hadn’t gone up after all, talking on the phone with someone. He hung up when he saw you, getting up and walking with you to the elevators. You didn’t punch in your floor number as he did his, exiting the elevator just as the door was about to close.
He smiled, “I’m not a creep, Ms Grump, just had to take a phone call, and now, I’m going to bed.”
“Better safe than sorry, Mr Grump,” you said, as the doors closed.
The two of you kept smiling at each other until your own reflections were all you could see on the shiny, highly polished doors.
