Decided to get some of the “Liquid I.V.” drink mix to see how it compares to Nuun.
It’s got a fair bit more salt (500mg/serving vs. Nuun’s 300mg) and also more sugar (11g against Nuun’s 1g.)
Supposedly, the sugar is what helps transport the salt, and water goes wherever the salt goes. If I’m lucky, maybe this will dial back on my dumbass kidneys going “oh look, the water for flushing waste is here! *half an hour later* oh look, the water for flushing waste is here! *half an hour later* oh look, the water for” when I’m trying to increase my damn blood volume.
I got the lemon-lime flavor (which is the only one the guy at the nutrition store had tried, though he said all three flavors sell fairly equally). In the recommended 16oz of water, it’s a bit strong, but in 24oz (which is what my bottle holds) it tastes pretty much like your average lemon-lime sportsdrink. They do use a touch of stevia in addition to the cane sugar, but mercifully, I can barely register the stevia aftertaste in this formulation.
#when i was trying to research flavor comparisons i stumbled on this one website that was like 'here's all the worst drinks b/c sugar bad'#okay but i just want a taste test not a moral judgment

baby phillipa
Well, i guess it’s about time to write a post saying that baby phillipa arrived on September 9th, 2021 at 3:27am after 36 hours of difficult labor! 39 weeks and 6 days/ One day before her due date.
She’s perfect and a dream.... and also makes us want to tear our hair out.
Breastfeeding has been challenging and not quite for reasons I expected. Baby is having trouble extracting milk from the boob, so we’ve been doing nursing/pumping/bottlefeeding, but more of pumping/bottlefeeding lately (and just nursing for comfort).
Sleep was deceptively ok for the first few weeks...I think she was really lethargic due to not eating enough (which KILLS me) and so slept really “well”. But she’s been fussier and WIDE AWAKE and overstimulated more now that she’s getting her 22-24oz of milk a day.
She was born a bigger baby but was also really swollen from all the saline drips I got and also she continued to lose a little/ fail to gain even after starting to move back towards her birth weight. Again, this is because we didn’t know she wasn’t getting anything much from the boob...she seemed to suck contentedly enough for a long time. Again, this kills me. But everyone has reassured us that she’s FINE, she’s such a resilient babe and we’re doing a great job.
Pumping is a little stressful but I’m feeling a bit better about it now. Waking several times a night to pump is kind of terrible though. But you gotta keep that supply up. I have an adequate supply so far - haven’t not had enough milk to satisfy her but I’m not like a waterfall either.
I think i could be better about hydration. But man...why would you drink water (or brush your teeth or take a shower) when you could SLEEP?
Nipples hurt. Burn. Sting. Itch.
We went to BLOK party yesterday - first big outing! - she slept in the solly wrap the whole time. Didn’t sleep well at night though so I don’t know if that afternoon sun necessarily helped her?
Getting the hang of bathing her. Putting on onesies. Swaddling. Diaper ninja. Laundry every freaking day. Have been peed on, but not pooped on.
Keeping it together re: marriage/K/communication. Barely, but we are doing it.
It is nice not to be pregnant anymore :)
