To German speakers

Serious question: how do you think, before you talk?

I've been watching German tv series and reading German fics, so my reading and listening comprehension is improving.

But.

German syntax is puzzling. Extremely so.

I know the grammar rules, I do! But my mind automatically goes subject + verb + object + conjunction + subject + verb + object when I want to speak.

When I write, I have time to reflect about the correct order of each word (and pieces of a word!), but trying to speak and remember where every part of the speech goes, and the right declensions… Impossible.

So, any advice?

idea. since askdusttale answered an ask about where dust got his determination from (because dust has SOME determination just so he can remember the timelines and keep going against the human) and said it was totally up to personal interpretation on how he got his determination. so so so like what if what if dusttale's player did something similar to something new's player and changed dust's code to give him determination??? so dust and killer COULD BOTH had their codes tampered with??? the parallels would be INSANE. they both started off as sans and got their codes tampered with by the player but dust and killer went on two opposite paths. dust out of his own voalition decided to go against the human but killer had to team up with the human no choice at all. the opposite parallels go CRAZY oh god im tweaking

killer doesn't know exactly (since i forgot whether or not he can see codes or something like that. i swear there was an image of him describing fell and swap's code and then his own) but he can SENSE that something's off. something's different about dust that he doesn't quite know about. maybe it gets him to ask a bunch of questions that dust is definitely not open to answering because jesus man mind your own damn business but the question that really sets killer off is the way dust answers when he asks "so if you have determination then how did you get it?" and dust just shrugs his shoulders and said that one day he suddenly remembered the resets and then that's when he got it (and then goes back to mumbling to phantom paps or wtvr) and killer's just like. zomg. a sudden change in behavior or mentality that seemingly has no apparent reason related to the human???? like like like when he suddenly had to agree with the player despite literally never wanting to????? killer is over thinking the implications behind this

meanwhile dust is just annoyed now because killer keeps on following him. he keeps asking him strange questions. wtf why is the guy asking to see his SOUL that's incredibly personal???? he just wants to be left alone man he has no idea what's going on

🚿Where do your best ideas seem to strike?

I think I get a lot of ideas when I'm thinking about something else--like I'm trying to work through a problem in my head and then all of a sudden I consider writing it. the shower is certainly a place, but so is in bed, on the commute, etc. all inconvenient for writing things down 😆

recently, just last night actually, I had a big idea some in while I was pondering how a lot of TV couples are interracial, more than in real life (in the US anyway), and that makes it look more common than it is. which is of course not bad, but since I'm writing timebomb and I was watching that video I was thinking, those two are kinda wild because in terms of the US they're interracial, but with the way Zaunites are racialized in the show, they're not in the actual setting. makes you think about how race is not real lol (and thank goodness it isn't!). social constructions are interesting. makes me think of Stuart Hall, "Race Articulation, and Societies Structured in Dominance," where he talks about paying close attention to how oppression plays out in a particular setting

my other thing I like about DECT is that it’s a very friendly introduction to metafiction literature that isn’t just smarmy fourth wall breaking but also isn’t so intensely layered like house of leaves that someone completely unfamiliar with the concept couldn’t get it

terrorized children by standing on a play structure for an undisclosed amount of time with a giant smile on my face because it looked like the hit list set (no i did not blast broadway here i come—i was very tempted to...but alas, children)

watched the concert proposal video x1000 times (newsies recap too, but that's longer and i have less time for that)

got a friend to spontaneously search up my broadway trio (found out she's already a laura osnes fan, many thanks to hallmark christmas movies)

spammed a group chat that is sick and tired of jeremy with jeremy gifs (just...you know...in case they forgot about him XD)

stayed a friend's place until 12 am jeremy-ing 🙈 (we were watching finding neverland, her first time....and then we jj youtube spiraled XD she was controlling the remote it wasn't *all* me XD)

the problem is I’m such a staunch believer in the slow buildup, the earnest enjoyment of meandering through terrible story decisions and weird nothing subplots to build up into a conclusion that explodes out from all that as fantastic storytelling and intrigue based on all that buildup, such that it makes it necessary to get through all that or you’re missing something essential, that I’m also a terrible person to talk to about what makes a story good. I can tell you plenty of what actually makes something tight and well-written and all that technical speak but how could anyone take my advice when I so so so love excruciatingly long unnecessarily complex fumbling and weird nonsense that spirals into, inexplicably, weird nonsense that makes you cry your lungs sore
