I have several problems with the antipsych movement.
1) It is a lot of white people comparing involuntary inpatient stays with prison and using a lot of the same prison abolitionist language and terminology for something whose effects cannot be wholesale compared to prison. Because a) your 72 hour-2 week stint in the ward is not comparable to people spending years in state wards is not comparable to being in or having a prison record. These are all 3 different experiences with different effects, though they may share some similarity and be interconnected. After a psych ward stay you are still going to be employable and still going to be able to find housing for example--nobody automatically sees psych ward on your record when they go to hire you the way they do prison records. b) it ignores and muddies the very real issue that mentally ill/ND POC have a DIRECT connection between exhibiting MH symptoms and prison because Black and Brown people are more likely to get thrown behind bars (or killed! Btw. Since we are on this topic) for exhibiting the same or even milder symptoms that would get a white person a wellness check. Like you cannot be saying these are the same carceral experiences when a white person went to the ward and a POC went to prison for the same symptoms. This is NOT saying there is nothing bad about psych wards but I wish people would stop just comparing Everything. Not everything is the same. Experiences can be different. You can talk about your harm without using somebody else's harm to hold it up. This also goes for using ACAB about literally ANYBODY else but the police. Tbqh.
2) It tends to ignore levels of functioning, independence, and ability. There are suicidal people who can be talked down. There are suicidal people who cannot be. There are homicidal people who can be talked down. There are homicidal people who cannot be. There are people with eating disorders or severe forms of harmful obsessive or compulsive behaviors who will not stop just because you are nice to them and tell them you're there. There are addicts who Will drive intoxicated and kill or hurt other people. Like peer support is a neat concept and many people benefit from it but within the current framework and within the current existing world there are people who are not able to make rational decisions in the moment, and in the current existing world there is no way to employ the right to die without it being eugenicist and affecting very specific demographics. In order for right to die to exist WITHOUT it affecting primarily poor POC, you would first have to dismantle everything else. And preventative care with preventative social support systems to make sure people DON'T get to those specific points is good conceptually but it does nothing for what happens when people get there. And I am tired of primarily people who CAN be talked down, CAN be assisted socially saying there is no need to discuss what happens when people get to that point because we can just prevent it. You can't prevent it entirely. Nobody ever has an answer for me on this topic and I recognize that it is a difficult topic with a lot of nuance, because it deals with autonomy and the lack of it vs harmful behaviors. And I am not using hypotheticals; I will be the first to say that nobody has ever once been able to stop me by offering me social support and nothing else if I'm suicidal, self harming, using substances, or restricting.
3) The really odd and false idea that mental health is a solely Western concept and/or is solely a result of capitalism. I don't know where you guys got this from but unfortunately as a cunt from the global south whose mother is just slightly older than the psychological association of my homeland, people are mentally ill everywhere and they were mentally ill before capitalism too. This is sort of just social model of disability issues 2.0 with a dash of romanticizing nonwhite cultures--just because there are specific issues that were caused, exacerbated by, or are symptomatic of societal ills doesn't mean everything would be some pristine utopia without those social ills. We can say that certain nonharmful behaviors that are just perceived as "odd" are punished by a conformist culture, and we can talk about the racial implications of that wrt diagnosis and treatment of POC, without acting like every symptom is ONLY seen as negative because of conformist cultures. There are many symptoms that would still cause distress whether or not capitalism exists and whether or not we are in the West.
4) A lot of the people who are talking about anti-psych have contradicting beliefs that seem more self serving than an actual conviction, with many (not all) seeming to have very little personal experience with the psych field and do little but spread fear. You will get people who will say they're anti-psych and then they'll talk about how their therapist is refusing to diagnose them with x disorder and that's why all therapists are bad and why they're anti-psych when many therapists refuse to diagnose specifically because therapists are social work degree holders in most cases in the USA and many of them are anti-diagnosis because...they are anti-psych. 💀 This isn't the only reason of course but it is a fairly common one, especially for diagnoses that therapists know are stigmatized. Many therapists will straight up list that they do not like formal diagnoses because they are opposed to how it is used systemically on their websites. The critique of mandatory reporting is also confusing because therapists and psychs aren't the only mandatory reporters. Teachers, religious leaders, non-therapist social workers, daycare staff, regular doctors are all mandatory reporters. There are people acting like you immediately will get conservatorship and shoved into group homes if you have a diagnosis when that isn't how that works *and* there are people for whom, while group homes/conservatorship do hold quite a lot of potential for and commonly involve abuses, a group home/conservatorship is the only way that they can live. There is in general a lot of fear mongering from this side of things and if there is one thing I have always hated it is people who incite fear where education would be better. This goes again back into ability and independence as well--some of you have the ability to go undiagnosed and still be independent, still function in life, still exist. Some of us do not. And until you come to terms with that and start giving people resources they can use instead of telling them all these bad things will happen to them 100% guaranteed and they have no hope, I do not consider you someone who cares for our rights and well-being.
5) Antipsych is the only thing taken seriously in "left" spaces for saying that because psychiatry has a background in eugenics, racism etc that therefore psychiatry is fake and mental health is fake. On the other hand, the same people also make fun of and disparage antivaxxers despite the fact that Black and Indigenous people have very very real reasons to distrust vaccines, and when the history of medicine and eugenics, genocide, forced sterilization, medical experimentation, and establishing race science as a whole is extremely well documented. Like you realize that the tech that obgyns use right now exists because of the shit they were doing to Black and Indigenous women experimentally. I find this sort of inconsistent politic to be irritating, disingenuous, and to be exploitative--using the history of black and brown bodies as some sort of morally superior gotcha without actually having consistent beliefs about what you do and do not find acceptable about our treatment.
#.log#saying all this btw as a bitch who was very into Mad Pride when I was like 11 :) I am naught new to the politic or the movement#and I do hold respect for the OG Mad Pride people and for people who hold consistent beliefs

Poorly describing my versions of the Gotham rogues:
Joker: “yolo” in its most dangerous form, def is writing a slow burn enemies to loves fic about him and Batman. Gay and homophobic 💯 The other rogues don’t invite him to pride celebrations anymore cause he’ll keep calling people slurs “as a joke”. Him and Edward have longterm beef, like schoolgirl levels of petty drama.
Harley Quinn: would describe herself as a “girlboss” unironically while committing heinous crimes. tweeted “clowns aren’t funny after breaking up with Joker (ended up causing a huge scandal). The OG “I can fix him” girl. Is sort of the rogues free underground therapist (god knows they need it) cause they can’t get professional help without being sent to Arkham.
Poison Ivy: Breaking News: Cottagecore lesbian commits mass murder cause her plant wilted. She’s what republicans think environmentalists are. Would get in a fist fight with that vegan teacher cause “plants have feelings too”. Has beef with most of the male rogues, supports ‘kill all men’ without realizing it’s a joke (she prefers ‘kill all humans’ but figured she had to downgrade because the Gotham city sirens are humans technically).
Cat Woman: “OH NO! It appears I’ve gotten stuck backwards in the bank vault step-Bat 😏😏😏😏😏😏, looks like I’m not stealing any more diamonds today 😰😩”. Mad respect for Selina, she just wants diamonds and bat dick, no tragic backstory or complex motivations needed. I personally like to headcanon her as wearing a straight up cat costume (ears and a tail like a true furry) cause it’s way funnier to imagine a sophisticated rich woman dressing up as a cat to steal shit than whatever bullshit DCs up to these days. Trans catgirl supremacy 💎👍
Scarecrow: That one guy who gets angry at people because “Halloween costumes are meant to be scary 🤬😡😑😒”. Doesn’t even attempt to express emotions, is the human embodiement of this emoji: 😐. His presence is more jarring than threatening, his intimidation levels are somehow underwhelming and overwhelming at the same time. The other rogues have collectively decided that he’s asexual under no assumption other than that they don’t want to imagine Jonathan having sex. Overtime Jonathan has become basically fearless (he smokes his own fear gas like vape just to feel something). Jonathan and Harley became good friends when they both worked in Arkham, their dynamic is surprisingly wholesome.
The Riddler: Didn’t get hugged enough as a child and is now making it everyone’s problem. Would hold a bank hostage to show Batman his third grade spelling bee medal. Is the only autistic rogue that gets accommodations in Arkham because he won’t stop bugging the guards. FTM trans ofc (his names Edward Nygma for Christ's sake). He ran away from home at seventeen and faked his own death (his deadname is legally dead lmao). Uses the terms “alpha, beta, and omega male” unironically.
Two Face: “Yeah, I mean, I didn’t wanna blow up the orphanage either, but Y’know the coin said-” The other rogues talk to Harvey as if he’s constantly at his breaking point, which is half true. Harv is a stone cold mf, he’s the rock that’s holding Two Face together tbh. Edward calls Harvey and Harv Jekyll and Hyde cause he’s that original. All the rogues have at least a sneaking suspicion that Bruce Wayne is batman and use Harvey as their little primary source (being ex besties and everything), until they find out Selina and Bruce are a thing of course. No matter how much evidence he’s faced with Harvey will never accept Bruce Wayne is batmam, he’s not ready to consider that one of the only positive people in his life has been duking it out with him this whole time.
Penguin: He’s the rest of the rogues chill gay gangster uncle I don’t make the rules. The iceberg lounge is like the Batman villain equivalent of The Central Perk from friends (aka: its their default place to hangout). Oswald always makes a fuss about them not making reservations ahead of them but at this point it’s just performative. Everyone’s 99% sure Oswald and Edward fucked at some point (Edward always makes a show of flustering Oswald when he needs a loan). Ossie always takes care of the others belongings when they’re in Arkham (he has a special place in his heart for Jonathan‘s crows).
The Mad Hatter: I love Jervis lmao he just really likes Alice in Wonderland and that’s a valid ass villain motivation 👍. One of the smartest rogues but doesn’t get enough credit because of how childish he is. He dresses in kids clothes, not just because he wants to but because he’s small af and can’t fit in shit. In public while the rogues are undercover Jervis usually wears a beanie or a baseball cap (he’d get spotted instantly if he wore his usual, but on bad days Jervis can’t bear to be without a hat). Jonathan and Jervis play chess a lot together in Arkham, and frequently engage in intellectual discussion, Edward tends to be a piss baby when Jon encourages him to do the same, he’s not ready to accept the reality that Jervis can match his intelligence.
Killer Croc: Waylon has a surprising amount in common with Jonathan, they share southern solidarity. He doesn’t travel out of the sewer often so the rogues will occasionally come to visit Waylon there (Edward always makes sure to complain loudly about the smell). Will show immense affection and loyalty to anyone who treats him as human (poor guy just needs a friend ☹️).
Mr Freeze: Literally just dead inside, someone give this poor bastard a hug. Victor stands as the most awkward rogue, he‘s sorta like the odd one out. The other rogues don’t interact with him that often because he’s sort of a party pooper. He’s the straight friend on thin ice, haha get it. Mr Freeze is my sisters favorite Batman villain because she thought the ice puns were funny in Batman in Robin, little does she know I’m embarrassing myself on tumblr in her glory.
Music Meister: So many of the Gotham rogues have horrible childhood trauma and Music Meister is just like “people bullied me for being a theater kid 😩😭💔😔”. In all honesty he’s iconic, in my au universe thingy I have him join the dork squad latter on and he sticks out like a sore thumb for a bit. I feel like him and Jervis would really hit it off though (mind control buddies, ha), although Jervis would always get him to sing Alice in Wonderland songs. In Arkham they have him wear a dog collar thingy and zap him when he sings, he gets bullied for that lol. anyways I’m sure I could make more of these, but it’s 2:20 am and my mind went blank. If y’all liked this I could always put more au headcanons out (I have A LOT)

“The Woman in the Window” ~ by Cocky Ass Joe

Amy Adams is one of my fave actors! From the trailer for this flick (based off a novel) we see that they're taking a bite out of the classic apple that is "Rear Window".

Man, he looks perverted, doesn’t he?? Ha! He’s like “Awwyeah.” And she’s like “Is that mofo staring at me?! Is he zooming in?!”
(There was another one too, right?? - with Superman in it??)

Superman don’t need no zoom lens :)
Instead of a middle aged white man peeking through the window at you, it's Amy Adams!

Imagine that - You're home. It's late, you're tired, and you happen to look out of your window to see Amy Adams staring back at you from the home across the street. Creepy, right?? Even though it's the Double A Train (her name on the streets) looking at you, it's creepy. I can't decide whether it's scarier for her to be stoically looking back at you or with a smile.
Amy has got some issues: agoraphobia, marriage problems, and she's a drunken pill-popper.
I kinda felt like a drunken pill-popper in the beginning of this movie, cuz it's a lil hard to follow at the beginning. The pace is weird.
Joe Wright is the director of this movie.

He has done "Pride & Prejudice" (boring white people romance), "Hanna" (white girl killing people), "Peter Pan" (lil white boy prancing around in his pajamas), and "Darkest Hour" (old white people in World War 2). Those were all relatively successful projects, but he's all over the place. I can respect a diverse portfolio, but... can we master one first?? Kinda cocky, right?? He's resume is also blindingly white :) I'm joking... kinda. Let me stop. I don't know... at least there are some black people in this movie. And for all I know, Joe has been wanting to do a live action "Bebe's Kids" and Hollywood simply won't let him.

I'll leave Joe alone.
But, I don't know what he's going for in this movie. You'd think that with the template of "Rear Window" I would, but I don't.
There's a whole lot going on, but it isn't well put together. It starts off with an asshole therapist, but why is he an asshole? What's his game? Who knows?? We're thrust into the madness of Amy. We'll understand eventually, but "eventually" takes too long.
Her husband is played by the new Captain America.

Her tenant is played by a wannabe Captain America.

What's up with the cast of "Falcon and The Winter Soldier" being in here? Explain that one, Joe!
Maybe the Double A Train has got some sort of Capt fetish. I was expecting Chris Evans to be one of her neighbors.

But, you didn't go that route did you, Joe??!
Amy's character keeps passing out, and when she wakes up there's always some new random stranger greeting her - which would have been cool, if done right... JOE. Instead I just felt lost. Who are these people? Does Amy not have a lock for her front door? Why is she talking with them like they've been friends forever and not kungfuing them out of her home?!
Again, maybe I'm being too hard on Joe Wright. Perhaps it's just a bad script. But, that would mean that heavy-hitters like Amy Adams, Gary Oldman, and Julianne Moore all swung and missed when they read it.
Nah, I'm going to blame cocky ass Joe! Let's add "fumbling a remake to a classic" to his resume. As well as wasting the performance of MVP actors The Double A Train and Gary OG Oldman, and the new guy on the block... good ol what's-his-face

who plays a troubled kid in here. He was excellent! But, I don't even know his name nor do I care to learn it, thanks to this sorry remake.... dammit, Joe!
Look, if you get the gist of "Rear Window", then you get the plot of this movie:
Are you crazy? or do you just look crazy? Can't really trust yourself when you're in an isolated scenario... or can you??
Plus, with this one we've got more gaslighting going on, the fears that some women hold when it comes to dealing with unstable men, crappy therapy, drugs/alcohol addiction, mental health - whew! and an action scene! Amy taking and giving blows, baby!
All of this is actually good! If done well, these elements would have been great!
Amy's performance gets better and better as the film goes on. There's a scene where she's in a room by herself, just flexing her skills.
Gary too! - There's a slap that he delivers to what's-his-face (who plays his son in this). I don't know how he practiced for this - whether he was going from highschool to highschool slapping teenagers or whether they just did 50+ takes of it, but that's a TOP 10 Movie Slap right there. He meant that shit!
Everything I just spoke of should have led to an outstanding flick, but...
Joe in all of his cocky glory had to move too quickly through scenes. He had to skip over the audience learning to feel the progression of dynamics between the characters. He, apparently, had an aversion to soaking up the talent that he had on set!
Despite all that, I have to consider those elements I mentioned that I loved, so I can't fail this movie, BUT I also can't recommend it. Unless you watch it and fast forward to the slap heard round the neighborhood.
Grade: D
I always say, with songs, that if you're going to cover one, it should respect the original, but find a way to be different. If you can't do that, don't do it.
Perhaps they could had totally mimicked the 1954 version of "Rear Window" frame for frame, word for word. Use this cast to match up with theirs. Have Amy Adams dress as Jimmy Stewart. Talk the same way he used to, and even get herself a wheelchair. Double A Train can pull off anything. Then, at the end, her and Gary could change it up and have a slap battle in the rain or something.- loser gets deemed as crazy.

Okay fuck, I'm gonna gush about my boyfriend.
He's fucking awesome.
On the few times we fight, we've made it a point to not talk over the other when they're talking. It's a chance to force the other to listen to the other side as they air grievances. We accept that shit happens and sometimes I can be pushy and overbearing to the point of annoyance. He's not scared of telling me so
Case in point. There's a house I really like that he's not super thrilled about but I've been real pushy about getting the house. Enough so that he called me on it and told me to chill. It's his decision. Not mine.
He will gladly drive an hour to pick me up and drive me around the city to watch me nerd out about fish.
He's flexible on a lot kf things, but there are hills he will die on. I have found the per rule to be one of them.
He asks for my blessing when he goes to meet with female friends. Now granted this one is leftover from his ex-girlfriend (now reformed), but I appreciate it? I'm a bit jealous and I'm working on it because I do trust him. I'm just also not a trusting person of other people.
Another holdover from our exes is that we text constantly. We've generally found ways to fill the silence. We're both needy people who need be around each other. Texting constantly is just something that satisfies that. However, we have boundaries set. We have a strict cut off bed time. When one of us calls it, we respect it, say our good night's and head to bed or the internet.
To add on, we alert the other when we're not going to be able to text much (a hold over as well). I'm pretty sure I've got an anxiety disorder, maybe from the add I need to get diagnosed officially. So this is ultimately helpful. We're never mad during spottiness though some light teasing is common. Sometimes to annoy the other, we'll start texting facts to each other
We don't text while the other is at work unless it's an emergency. We'll text during breaks, but no texting during work, or if you do, don't expect a text back. Sometimes he would mute me since sometimes i find cool things and he doesn't want his phone buzzing every five minutes.
(we're not a perfect relationship and we know it. We both have flaws but it's a system that works)
He's supportive of me. I have a lot of issues with religion and I can be a downright bitch sometimes if something happens to piss me off. And at times it means I take pot shots at his religion. I've tried not to in front of him because he asked me not to. I slip up sometimes and he'll tell me that he's uncomfortable with that. Tbh, this is the one big flaw I have.
But when it comes to hobbies? He will drive us half an hour or more to check out a fish store, or a craft store because I want or need new supplies.
He's only raised his voice once at me. It was during college and we were both super stressed. When he realized, he apologized immediately. Another time we were talking and he raised his hand to give me a high five and I flinched. He hasn't done that anymore
He's just a real sweet heart. He will make friends with anyone and he's just really really nice. To the point that it's annoyed me a few times 😅. He'll get old female friends texting him to vent and ask for advice.
He's also a one woman man
He's teased me that he's super lucky we started dating when we did. Else I would have dated the first pretty girl I saw. He always knew I'm bi. He makes it a point og personal pride that of all the people in the world, I picked him.
Now granted, I had my eyes on him since we first met and never looked back
He asks me every day what the gender of the day is because sometimes it changes
And maybe someone will say that it doesn't matter cuz we're somehow still het.
And to them I say that maybe he doesn't get why, maybe he doesn't care because he'll still fuck me at the end of the day. He cares enough to ask and educate himself
He'd fight a racist for me. He was mad when a guy checked me out and nodded at him. My guy knew it was because I'm Latinx and am pretty endowed.
Whenever his family does anything or says anything that he knows I'm uncomfortable with, he'll squeeze my hand and try not to engage or keep me from engaging because I have a scorched earth policy when it comes to white racist-lite people.
He'll tease me because he's the whitest thing I've done. It's a running joke in his family about what is the whitest/most American thing I've done is. I wasn't raised in American culture so it's all foreign to me. They have taken it upon themselves to show me the beauty of American culture from baseball to fourth of July celebrations. They still want to take me to see a football game.
And I really really love him. This man bought our engagement ring a year early because I gushed about how it had opal and amethyst, mt favorite stones. It would have meant he didn't choose one with emeralds like he always wanted, but he knew I liked that ring.
I love this man. A lot. I am going to marry him one day and I know I'm going to love everything about it.
We've moved well past the puppy phase. We're both adults. We both have lives outside the other and we still love and enjoy every minute we spend together. Physically or over the phone.

Samklef calls out Ycee / Simi and Yemi Alade for being proud Samklef calls out Ycee / Simi and Yemi Alade: Long Time music producer, Samklef has taken to Social media to express his disgust at Ycee, Simi and Yemi Alade. The music maker revealed that the singers were proud and this was as a result of garnering a little fame. According to him, Ycee was still a rookie in the industry and refused to work with him. He then said Simi was a proud artiste who wasn’t replying to any of his interests in a collaboration, even though he helped her career when she was still starting up. He further said that he met Yemi Alade one time in South Africa with a friend and when he went to greet her, she reacted in a certain unapproachable way, he had to unfollow her immediately on social media. He compared these artistes to Wizkid who he had earlier dragged out but both parties are currently in good terms now, saying that the singer was a hundred times better than any of them but still found the time to say hi once in a while to him. Ycee and Yemi Alade reacted to his claims while Simi is yet to respond. See Posts Below: My dear proud Nigeria artiste una see say this life Na nothing.
