Headcanon: Maybe Jackie isn't dumbing herself down for Kelso in The Trials of M. Kelso (3x18) and still is very smart.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, hear me out. I know I'm not alone in the fact that I truly despise the way that Jackie is shown to dumb herself down for Kelso, particularly in the opening scene of this episode. In my recent re-watch of this episode, however, I noticed something that I never thought about before, and I built an entire lil' headcanon around it.
In the opening scene, we have what appears to be Donna tutoring Jackie and Kelso in math. Jackie is a year younger in school than the rest of the gang, so it doesn’t make sense for her to be learning the same math as Kelso, unless:
(A) Kelso had to repeat that math class, or (B) Jackie skipped a year in math.
I lean towards option B for a couple of reasons. First, because I also was disappointed that the show retconned Kelso being a math prodigy from season 1, and option A suggests that Kelso may be poor at math.
Secondly, I think option B could explain why maybe Jackie was obviously struggling with the math question that Donna asked her in the first scene of the episode. If she skipped a year in math, its reasonable to think that she might struggle with some of the more advanced material. (Of course, she is also struggling because she’s distracted by Kelso, but I digress.)
In my re-watch, I also noticed that throughout the rest of the episode, Jackie and Donna are seen studying together at The Hub. While Jackie spends a good portion of that time testing Kelso’s ability to be in a mature relationship, I headcanon that she is primarily using her time to study with Donna so she can keep up in her math class. If she skipped a year, perhaps she and Donna are even in the same class period. It takes some extra studying on her part, but she catches up eventually.

Expectations | Shirabu Kenjirou x Reader
Tumblr media
✧ Summary: Having attended Shiratorizawa Academy from junior high, you were familiar with most of the students in your year. They were average, nothing special — until a certain vbc setter, from god knows whatever small town junior high he crawled out of, changed up your world. -> Tag: maybe language cause it’s shirabu; fluff and jealousy + slight angst
---xXxXxXxXxXxXxXx---
Shirabu Kenjirō was a living, breathing pillar of salt. And it was rightly so. He was the friend, the shoulder to cry on, and the person that everyone viewed as reliable. This was not entirely a bad thing, since he was viewed as much more dependable than others. And this idea was not limited to volleyball. But being placed in that category separated him from the very people who put him there. The girls viewed him as, at most, a friend. He was the king and leader of the friend zone.
It was the end of his second-year and he would soon be taking over as captain of the boys’ volleyball team. He justified lack of love life on the fact that he had bigger things to focus on. And after their crushing defeat, Shirabu reasoned that Shiratorizawa needed a focused captain to lead them to victory.
But the road to triumph was… rather lonely.
Shirabu had his team with him one-hundred percent and silently appreciated them for their confidence and own unfailing determination (he won't admit out loud!) But it seemed like he was surrounded by couples. His kouhai, Goshiki Tsutomu, found comfort in another first-year that was a regular on the women's volleyball team.
Couples were disgusting.
Of course, majority of the members of the male volleyball were single. Ushijima was a super volleyball idiot and his focus seemed to never stray from the sport. But even with his cinnamon roll personality, the female base of Shiratorizawa seemed to flock to him. He was undoubtedly very handsome and tall. His grades were well above average and his fan club was incredibly prominent. Ushijima had all the makings of a great man and was noticed as such by a large pool of the student body. The difference was that Ushijima was willingly single.
Shirabu, deep in the non-explored depths of his heart, wanted to be noticed like his Senpai. When playing volleyball, Shirabu strived to be the type of setter that went by unnoticed and drew out the strength of his ace. And he knew the consequences of such. But still. He was the main setter on a highly prominent team and his skills are not hard to notice.
Maybe it was his rough personality? Pft. He would never change that for a person, no matter how special.
Shirabu was above average height and had amazing grades in a prestigious powerhouse. What wasn’t there to like? His sense of style was trendy and he was complimented on his clothes more than once. He as not too preppy like Goshiki and not too wild like Tendou. Was it his looks? His bangs were unusual, but they weren't as bad as coconut-head/bowl/Goshiki. Since entering adolescence, he failed to ever break-out and was blessed with marvelous clear skin. On more than one occasion, he would stare at the mirror and truly wonder just why.
Why was no one interested?
Enter you.
You attended Shiratorizawa in both middle and high school. Coming from a wealthy family, there was nothing standing in your way. You were fairly popular and had seen the multiple personalities flit through your advanced classes. And in your first-year came Shirabu, an outsider to Shiratorizawa from a lower-class middle school. After being in the system for three-years, you knew almost everyone and seeing a new face was refreshing.
From the very start, you wanted to bet to know him more. But he was incredibly reclusive and mysterious to the general student body. Nobody could answer your questions. Well. Nobody except a certain Salami and volleyball idiot. You shared an advanced statistics class with the two third-year volleyball players in your first year and from them you were able to peer more and more into the life of Shirabu Kenjirō.
“Why do you want to know, (F/N)-chan?” Tendou instigated, “You have a crush on him?”
“Please, Salami calm down.” He raised his hands and gasped, “Come on. There isn’t a single person in this school who I don’t know and suddenly nobody knows anything about him?”
“He is smart and adaptable.” Ushijima chimed in.
“And a little shit, that’s for sure.” Tendou stated. You rolled your eyes and returned your attention back to the statistics teacher. Sure, you wanted to learn more. But this class was hella hard and you still needed good grades. Eventually, you were able to gradually acquire more information and Kenjirō. You learned that he was the only player from the boys’ volleyball team to not get into Shiratorizawa with a sports scholarship. Instead, he got in on his own accord through the arduous exams and good grades.
The more you discovered, the more you liked him.
Shirabu had a work ethic that you hadn't seen in a while. Being in this particular school-system for so long ruined your perception of it. You perceived most of your classmates to have a truly pretentious or judgmental personality, but showing to be as sweet as honey to your face. Of course they wanted to be your friend, who wouldn't with your last name?
He hadn't.
Shirabu was straight-forward with a tongue laced with salt. Sign you the fuck up!
He had no qualms about talking back to you and you looked forward to your daily banter with an odd smile. It was strange. You could get any nice, sweet boy in the whole school. But what was the point if they didn't mean it? Shirabu was honest - a trait that should never be given up, even if it offended others. You would rather have someone give you genuine advice - even if it was mostly mean - rather than an empty friendship.
You had majority of the same classes together for the second year in a row. And you were the only person who would had the immediate desire to sit next to Shirabu as a partner. You silently viewed him as a friend, but there was always this barrier that you could never get over for your friendship to deepen. His time was always dedicated to volleyball. And you did not play any sports anymore.
You watched the volleyball team's crushing defeat to Karasuno and the heartbreak it caused to so many people, Shirabu included. The women's team was resorted to tears and you could not even look at the men for too long. Reon and Semi were so sweet and you wished you could protect them for all the bad in the world. You had never seen Shirabu cry before.
Shirabu... He seemed to only display emotion around his team. And this made sense since those were the people that he was closest too. The rare occasion you had seen his smile was when you had watched a game. They had an overwhelming victory against Johzenji High and you spotted the small grin on Shirabu after he scored the winning point. Your heart could barely take it. You only wished that he showed that side more to you...
He was friendly, but distant enough for you to want more. Shirabu was not cold to you and his harsh chitchat did not hold any true malice behind his words. But he never opened up to you. You wanted to learn more about him personally and if you wanted to, you would have to pry and almost force him to speak. He would give curt answers and then be done with the conversation. But, on more than one occasion, you would spot him typing away on his phone. It was no secret that the boys’ and girls’ volleyball team were fairly close and had a groupchat shared amongst them. You silently wondered if he was texting a girl from the team.
That thought had you instantly deflated and made you wondering if you ever had a chance with Shirabu. You were not one to be easily defeated, but with every brief conversation and blank expression he gave you, you considered giving up altogether. This happened around Valentine’s Day of your first-year. Shirabu was abnormally delighted and even smiled in the classroom at someone’s joke. You figured that sure, it was the day of love and he probably had something lined up for himself and his significant other – that was why he was so happy. And it hurt your heart. He smiled, but it was never because of you.
From there forward, you tended to avoid him to evade the imminent heartache every time you saw him. This was hard since you literally sat next to each other in most classes, but something entirely doable. You would leave the classroom immediately after class, show up right before it started, and not initiate conversation. It was always you that had previously opened up discussion, so when you had stopped there was little to none at all.
Shirabu caught up to your change and silently questioned it. On multiple occasions, you would catch him observing you from the corner of your eye and you silently hoped he would not question you outloud. Within a week, he was ready to corner you.
You were at your locker right after class, ready to pack-up and head over to photography club. He was silently bounding towards you and when you closed the locker he was standing right-there before your eyes.
“Did I do something to offend you?” He asked the moment your locker closed.
“No…” You stated haphazardly, clutching your backpack.
“You’re never his quiet or shy.” He noted, “Did something else happen?”
“I have to get to photography club…” Shirabu put his arm on the locker and blocked your exit. He was tall and there was no way you could out-run him, you were trapped.
“Don’t lie. We know it starts in twenty-minutes. You might be on the executive board, but you have a lot of time.” He sighed out, locking to the ceiling and then back to you. “Why are you ignoring me?”
“… Am I your friend, Shirabu?”
“Of course.” He did not hesitate to answer. “And it’s Kenjirō.”
“What?”
“Call me by my first name.”
“Oh.” You paused and let the name roll of your tongue, “Then you should call me by my first name too, Kenjirō-kun.” His eyes widened at the added suffix and a rosy dust covered his cheeks.
“Was that it?” He asked, “Come on, (F/N). That’s an immature reason to ignore me.”
“How was I supposed to know?” You questioned, “It never seems like you actually want to talk to me.”
“I’m talking to you now.”
“Outside of this!” You were beyond frustrated, “Ugh I’m fine now go away.” You lightly pushed his arm, but he did not budge.
“As if that would convince me.”
“You are so annoying.” You commented, “You never initiated conversation. I thought I was just bothering you.”
His gaze on you softened and you could not break the eye-contact, “You’re an idiot.” He teased and then ruffled your hair. That was the first time he had ever done physical-contact with you and you almost exploded then and there.
“I’m an idiot?” You repeated before walking away mid-sentence, “I’m hoping you treat your girlfriend better.”
He paused and let us hand drop down to grab your elbow before you go away. “Girlfriend? Where did this come up?”
“I thought…” Shit, you let that thought slip out-loud, “The men and women volleyball teams are close. And I’ve only ever seen you hang-out outside of class with them and those girls. I just assume...”
“You assumed wrong.” He quickly cut-off, “Ugh. What am I going to do with you?” He asked as he grabbed you into a hug. You returned the affection and you knew that a blush must have stained your face! And what was that question?
Shirabu continued, “So was that the real problem? You were jealous of my supposed ‘girlfriend?’” He laughed at his question and you were going to die from his smile. God it was so rare and you wished he graced you with it more!
“No! Don’t get too ahead of yourself!” You yelled back, but it was muffled against his chest. He leaned back to see your face and teased you for your embarrassed expression.
“You’re an idiot.” He laughed again.
Since then, your friendship with Kenjirō was gradually improving. But it seemed that there was this silent barrier that you could not overcome. You could talk about your problems, but not about his. And since then, he had not initiated any physical contact. If you ever brushed hands or simply leaned against him, he should shift away and pretend it never happened! Did you really make any progress?
Finals were coming up and that was giving you one last chance to spend time with Shirabu before the end of the schoolyear. Sure, you could always ask your father and he had the power to put you two in the same class again next year - But! Did you want to waste your last year together pinning after him?
Your study group was comprised of yourself, Shirabu, Kawanishi, and two people from his class. Kawanishi was in Class 5, which was also advanced, but he was so damn lazy! You saw his potential and only wished that he tried harder and quit fucking around.
The three other members of the group were missing that night and the two of you were left alone to grovel over English. Your English was better than Shirabu’s but the opposite could be said about history. You paired each other well and aided the other's faults.
You commented on this once jokingly, saying, "You complete me!" He simply rolled his eyes and brushed it off before continuing to study.
Damn. This boy cannot take a hint.
You attempted to show the boy your advances. But it seemed Shirabu would shut you down at every try, almost like he knew what you were doing and was firmly against it. A part of you considered backing down. He had made his intentions clear for two straight-years, maybe you should not waste another year on someone who obviously does not want your attention?
That thought last for a second before you waved it off. There was no one else you were even remotely interested in. If he said no, that’s fine. But you were probably not going to peruse anyone else.
Both you and Shirabu were spacing out from over-reading the textbook and happened to make eye contact. "What's on your mind?" You asked.
"Things you cannot understand."
"You really think that low of me?"
"No. I'm going to be the captain of the volleyball team in a few weeks."
"Wow."
"There's no way your pampered ass would get it."
"You think about my ass?" You teased, but he pretended to ignore the question. You spent enough time with him to notice the minute narrowing of his eyes and the slight curve in the corner of his left lip.
Damn, this boy had you bad.
"I'm sure you'll do fine, Kenjirō." You comforted, "You're very smart and reliable. I believe that your training won't betray you."
"Reliable..." He murmured. "That's exactly what I'm talking about."
"What do you mean?"
He scoffed at your question, "Exactly. You won't understand."
"Then explain it to me!" You exclaimed.
"Why should I?" He seemed just as inflamed.
"Because I care about you! You big, dumb, idiot!"
Shirabu paused before fully looking at you, surprise evident. "Well, everyone expects this idiot to be reliable and lead the team. But..."
"But...?"
"That's all that people expect from me. To be the smart one. To live to everyone's expectations and shoulder the border of living up to the name ''powerhouse.'" He was getting more agitated and louder with each word.
"Woah, calm down."
"I can't calm down! In a few weeks, I'll lose the ace that I've admired for years and majority of our regular team! How am I supposed to fill in their shoes when we're losing one of the top 3 spikers in the country?"
You had no shame in grabbing his chin and turning his full attention to you. "Listen here you idiot. Don't interrupt me! I said don't! I stopped sports, but I know this is something entirely inevitable. Your senpai's are moving onto the next phase of their lives, but it's not something you can stop or change. You have to accept the future and make the most out of it and I know you will. Shiratorizawa is not the only school with graduation. Your rivals and others will lose their precious third-years and its then will you be able to analyze them and attack. But you need to calm the fuck down."
Shirabu was hanging onto every word. Nodding at some parts and fully taking in what you were trying to convey. At the end of your speech, he pushed your hands away from his face with a slight rosy dust on his cheeks. No woman, outside of his mother, had ever done that to him before.
"You're a real pain, (F/N)." he started, "But thanks. I needed that."
"No problem, I just want you to know that I can be here for you." You extended your hand to cover his own on the desk.
His eyes latched onto your hand before he averted his gaze and attempted to pull his hand away. You kept a tight enough grip to keep it in place, but not enough to hurt. "Must you touch me so much?"
"You are such a tsundere, oh my god." You commented, "Of course, I had to like you."
He stilled and looked directly into your eyes, as if that would confirm your previous statement. "Are you really that surprised?" You asked. "You're really handsome and you have the type of personality that I find most attractive."
"Tsundere?" He joked.
"No. You're honest." You admitted, "You're not like the rest of them, who only see dollar signs when they see me. You've roasted my ass multiple times in class and I wouldn't have it any other way. You say the truth and don't sugar-coat your words for anyone."
"I like you." You simply stated. You watched the words seem to finally reach something in his mind and at this point he seemed to panic. He pulled his hand away and you did not hide your outward hurt. Shirabu made a lame excuse and quickly packed up his stuff to leave.
You never felt more sad and alone.
XXXXX
Shirabu was freaking the fuck out. He wanted someone to notice him and it had to be you??? You were beautiful and nearly perfect in every way. Your beauty went beyond the physical level and you were blessed with intelligence and an even greater family tree.
None of this mattered to him before. You were his friend and classmate and probably the one person in class who did not endlessly irritate him. How could you possibly have feelings for him? He didn't deserve you, not a bit. He had an endless list of faults, including his knowingly sarcastic personality, and you were the friendliest person in school! No way. You could be happier with literally anyone else.
He could not deny all your positive traits, even though he made an effort to ridicule you. You were an overall amazing person and he could not deny his latent crush on you. But he had squashed it since your friendship was mostly comprised of friendly banter. You could never have feelings for him, he previously thought. So he would rather treasure your friendship and watch you from the sideline.
However, Shirabu had to admit that it was a dick move of him just to leave you there after your confession. He was usually the type to speak his mind and your feelings must have blinded his brain. He set-out to clear the air and admit why.
In class the next day, you were nowhere to be found and refused to respond to calls and texts. Seeing you so affected, Shirabu could not help but feel like a huge ass. He owed you big-time, but he had to start somewhere: an apology. Shirabu had to clear the air and make it known that he appreciated your affections, even if he had to deny them. He was not above annoying you and did such continually.
Knocking on your dorm room, he showed up right at your front door.
Shirabu heard movement inside, but not closer to the door. He called your phone again and heard the ringtone go off from within, just for you to mute it. He knocked about eleven more times before you opened the door.
"What do you want?!" You asked as you swung the door open with full force.
"To clear the misunderstanding, (F/N)."
"God, you are so annoying. Did you know that?"
"You are too. Now hear me out, you crazy."
"Excuse me?!"
"Please." You sighed and moved aside for him to enter and he did such. He uncharacteristically took your hand and guided you to sit-down on your bed.
He paused, as if to fully think about his words, before sitting next to you. "You need someone who has time for you."
"What?"
"I'll be the captain soon and I do not want to disappoint anyone. I'll be busy and unable to be the proper boyfriend."
"Is that your only complaint to this relationship?"
"No."
"What else?"
"You deserve someone who can make you happy."
You gave a small laughed and asked, "Who says you don't already make me happy?"
He stared at your for a moment before asking, "What?"
"I don't want someone who you think will make me happier with kind words or bullshit. I want someone honest." You candidly admitted, "And we are friends already. I know you're dedicated to volleyball and I don't want that to change. I already know how you are and that’s why I like you more than anyone else. You alone can make me happy. For someone smart, why is this so hard for you to understand?"
He sputtered, unable to give a cohesive reply and for once you saw be great Shirabu struggle over his usually articulate words.
"Wait." You realized that he had multiple complaints about this relationship before you interrupted him. "Just be straight with me. Do you have feelings for me?"
It was at this moment that Shirabu had the clearest view of you. You were in the closest proximity than ever before, sharing a seat on your bed! He could gaze clearly into your eyes and sense the distress and vulnerability from your previous words. He stretched the silence and you took that as a rejection. He immediately rectified the situation by grabbing your hand and placing a light kiss at the top.
"I never thought you were interested in me." He admitted, "I thought I was deep in the friend zone. So I would have rather kept your friendship than risked ruining it."
"You're an idiot." You smiled grabbing his wrist to pull him closer. He obliged and allowed you to place a light kiss on his cheek.
"Now will you be my boyfriend or will I have to convince you?" You whispered in his ear to tease him and could literally see the shiver go down his back as he stiffened.
When you pulled away, his eyes were half-lidded and you silently wondered if his dominant attitude translated romantically.
You didn't have to wonder long since he returned the favor and went even further, nibbling your ear lightly before placing butterfly kisses around your neck. "Maybe you'll have to convince me."
You laughed before wrapping your arms around his neck, quickly taking command and enveloping his lips against your's. However, you did not have it for long and the setter was quick to flip the positions and hover over you. He gave one his rare smiles and you felt one breaking out across you'rs, stretching from ear to ear. Shirabu, who was in no rush, descended back down to your silky lips - noses bumping and hands fisting into each other's hair. His grip was firm, but not tight enough to hurt. You moaned, unintentionally, and he took that as an invitation to lick the entrance to your cavern. You parted your lips quickly, eager to feel his tongue against yours. The rest of the day went by ignored, the two of you enveloped in each other's affection with not a single care in the world.

When Denki was little, he was more shy and introverted than he is now. He was the kid that sat in the corner and watched, trying to find his opening into the other kid's conversation, and when he found it, he would try, and be rejected. So when he got first grade he had to start playing by himself. He didn't even bother trying anymore.
One day a new kid showed up to class, Denki ignored him for the most part, figuring that the new kid would become friends with the others in his class. But when the class had break time, Denki moved to play with the plastic dinosaurs he always did, while distracted the new kid sat beside him. The new kid eventually spoke up, scaring Denki a little.
“Can I play with you?”
Denki was excited and scared that someone wanted to play with him, so of course, he nodded and tried to catch the kid up with his dinosaur story.
“Here you can be the red one, like your eyes, you can also be other ones if you want but I thought this was fighting, oh and I’m Kaminari.”
“I'll be the red one, and I’m Kirishima!”
The next day Denki expected the red-eyed boy to move on and play with others, but when the break came, Kirishima followed Denki to the dinosaur bin, starting where they left off. This cycle repeated until the two became best friends, using first names, they were inseparable.
Denki remembers many little moments, like when Eijiro bit Denki and left a scar on his pinky finger, Denki wanted to know how sharp Eijiros teeth were and being young and unsupervised, the best way to discover the sharpness of his teeth. Though Denki feels bad because as soon as the skin brock Eijiro began to cry, sorry for hurting him. Denkis remembers Eijiro crying while promising.
“I'll never hurt you again, I’ll be the person who protects you, I promise.”
Kirishima kissed the hand where he just hurt his friend. This would become their way of pledging a promise to each other.
Another memory is the first time the two understood marriage. In about third grade Denki completely understood marriage, while Eijiro was a little behind, so Denki explained.
“So when you love someone and want to protect them you marry the=m so you can be together forever!”
“So we should be married!”
Eijiro suggested, trying to clarify but Denki wasn't sure Eijiro understood what he meant.
“I mean yeah, if you want, but you would be stuck with me, and we have to be adults. Oh, like our parents are married, you know how your mom feels for you mama, that's the feeling that means you should get married to a person.”
“I get it, and I feel that way with you, I want to become like my moms with you.”
Denki laughed, overjoyed with the idea.
“Me too, we just have to wait for us to grow older.’ “I can wait”
After that the two would propose to each other all the time, most of the time it would happen when one of them found a flower and tied it around the other's finger.
In the year before middle school, Eijiro tells Denki that his family is moving and he’ll still be close but he won’t be going to the same middle school. The two are both devastated that they won't be able to be together in middle school. When Eijiro tells Denki, Denki breaks down, overcome with many emotions, not knowing exactly why he cries and says words that he’s not even sure to make full sentences, but Eijiro understands.
“I love you too Denki, remember, I'm still going to be close enough to hang out on weekends, and in the future when we're married and heroes together this won’t matter anymore.”
The two never became an official couple, they were comfortable being together as whatever they were without a label. Denki became more confident in himself, along with flirtatious, he even began calling Eijiro names like babe or honey, he loved seeing the way Eijiros cheeks would change to match his eyes. Eijiro had a harder time with confidence in middle school but he never let Denki know that always avoid such questions.
Towards the end of middle school the two both agreed to try their best to get into U.A high, it was a dream for them to become heroes together, run an agency, and be married. Though Eijirou stopped talking about the marriage dream, Denki figured it was because he was more focused on becoming a hero first.
Later in the summer, the two learned that they were both accepted and that they were in the same class. It was all they could dream, this was their first real step toward being heroes. They trained together before school officials started, they got everything together.
One day, barely a week before their first day at U.A, Eijirou talked to Denki about their relationship.
“I think we should hide that we know each other.”
Denki agreed, he loved Eijiro and if this would make him more comfortable at their new school, he would do so.
“Okay, I promise”
Denki grabbed Eijirou’s hand lifting it to his lips, soft l kissing the back of his hand. Eijirou did the same after whispering a promise.
WHen Denki promised to pretend to be a stranger, he only thought about how it would make Eijiro more comfortable, he didn’t think about how it might make himself feel. And he really should have because he regretted it. It was clear that Eijiro was comfortable, more than comfortable with their new classmates. Denki watches as Eijiro becomes close with people, and though he is often included in that group, it feels distant. He feels like he’s back in a classroom, one before Eijiro showed up, and he played with his dinos as he watched groups of other kids playhouse together, acting like a family that loved each other. He hadn’t felt this way since he meant Eijiro, but for some reason, it had returned. And Denki had a feeling that it had to do with the other blonde in his new friend group.
Eventually, Denki was able to call Eijiro babe and other names that romantic couples would use. Everyone just pushed it off as Denki being a flirt, but in reality, it was nicknamed that Denki just couldn’t hold back anymore, names that he couldn’t wait to be true, names he would use when he had a ring on his finger and was married to the boy who played dinosaurs with him. Names that he hoped made Eijiro just as happy. And lastly, names that Denki hoped would bring Eijiro back to him.
Denki wasn’t as stupid as some people assumed, he saw the way his future husband looked at bakugou, he saw how the explosive blonde looked at the now redhead. They had the same look that Denki had for Eijiro, the same look that Eijirou used to look at Denki. But he told himself it wasn’t something to worry about, looking at the back of his hand, the hand that Eijiro kissed when he promised that they would be married, the hand that brought tears to the ruby eyes when he saw that he made his friend bleed, the same hand that Eijiro held when he was overwhelmed in situations, like before the entrance exam. The hand that was stained red for a week when he helped dye Eijiros hair, which is now his most notable feather but not to Denki, it will always be the eyes, no dye or contacts, could produce a prettier shade of red.
As much as Denki tried to ignore it, but as hard as he tried he saw everything, the lovey-dovey eyes that Eijiro and Bakugo had, the holding hands, sneaking off, to hanging out without the group. Late at night he could hear shuffling above him, until he heard knocks above him, not for him but knocks on Eijirou door, hard aggressive knocks that Denki memorized after the first time, Bakugos knock. Denki couldn’t even count the amount of time he was kicked out of Eijirou’s room, because Bakugo was coming over, on his hands. He noticed that his flirtatious names and comments no longer changed Eijiros cheeks to a bright red, while the simple words bakugou would yell had Eijiro covering his face, but Denki saw the blush on the tops of his best friend's ears. He saw as the red dinosaur that Eijiro had kept from first grade, the one that matched Denkis yellow one, lost its spot on Eijirou shelf, now replaced with an all might figure, Denki knew that it was one Bakugo gave to him and it hurt to know that he was being replaced in all forms.
It became too much to ignore, it constantly filled his thoughts, it filled all conversations as well. The pain hurt, and he kept telling himself that Eijiro loves him, that it was promised but he needs confirmation.
He texted “babe ♥ ” to meet him outside. He waited, feeling his pocket buzz but didn't check it, he watched the doors waiting to see the doors open. And when he did he saw the man he loved, the man he planned to marry, Eijiro still had that smile on his face that Denki couldn't help but swoon over, but then he saw and Eijiro turned around and held the door open, he looked happy and like he was joking with someone, then bakugou walked threw the door. Denki watched as they said goodbye and Eijiro ran over to Denki ad bakugou waited, leaned against the school wall”
“ Hey man what’s up”
“I just, I had a question for my baby”
Denki was extremely nervous but he used his best acting to hid i
“Go for it”
“Do you still love me”
“ of course I love you, that will never change”
Denki let himself breathe again
“You’re my best friend man, of course, I love you. I want to be with you for the rest of my life, I want you to be the best man at my wedding, I want my children to think of you as an uncle. I know you've been feeling lonely recently but I promise you that I and others still love you”
Eijiro lifted Denkis hand and kissed it, Denki used the strongest dams he had to hold back his tears
“So I’ll be your best man, not the groom”
He laughs a little thinking that he was stupid for even asking
“ I mean yeah, I know that we joked about getting married but we were just kids, puppy love, am I right? We grow up and find real love?”
Denki watched as Eijiro turned to look at Bakugou. Denki saw love in Eijirou’s eyes love that was more than he ever saw in emojis eyes. Denki knew that he would never be the love that Eiji wanted or needed, the closest he would ever be would be a best friend, and as much as it hurt, it was better than nothing, so he nodded and said
“Yeah puppy love, I promise.”
Denki took Eijirou's hand and kissed it, Eijirou repeating after him.
“And this is kind of awkward but I think we should stop with this form of making promises, along with the babe nicknames. Katsuki can be a little jealous and I think we're going to get serious soon, he's asked me out on a date today, so I just think we should stop all our romantic habits.”
Denki nodded again
“Yeah I understand ba--Eijiro, go have fun”
Eijiro started to run back to bakugou while yelling
“Thanks, man, I love you”
When Denki knew Eijiro was too far to see the tears he let them fall, but it didn't matter because Eijirou wasn’t paying attention to the electric blonde, all his attention was on the explosive blonde. Falling to his knees when he realized that the ruby-eyed boy didn't even care, Denki’s voice was rough when he whispered.
“I love you to Eijiro”
As much as he wanted to say, babe, even if Eijirou was too far to hear, Denki would always respect and do anything to make Eijiro happy and comfortable.

i discuss the classification of igneous petrology as you fall asleep during my lecture (PART 1) (ASMR)
Childe/Zhongli, Alternate Universe (read part 2 here) When Childe's younger sister tells him about the volunteer at the library, he does not make the connection between that and his new favorite ASMR YouTuber, Rex Lapis.
Childe has a very effective method of getting through college. His little sister, who’s caught him making coffee at three in the morning on more than one occasion the past week alone, would beg to differ.
“You’re the best older brother,” she starts off, and he’s sure she’s trying to convince herself more than him at this point, “but you need to fix your sleeping habits.” Then, because she’s his little sister, she’d flash him a smile and pat his shoulder reassuringly.
(The comment is not lost on him though. He understands his sleeping situation will eventually wear him down if it hadn’t already, but he believes if he’ll drink a coffee every morning and a Monster every night, he’ll get through three days. By the third day, he’ll hardly be coherent but that doesn’t matter because he’ll conk out for the next twelve hours and then repeat.)
“Don’t worry, Tonia,” he says, trying to sound as reassuring as possible as he contemplates whether it’s worth it or not to swallow a pill of 5-hour energy with his morning coffee. “Once break ends, I’ll get back to normal.”
“You said that six seasons ago.”
Childe frowns, trying to remember if his sleeping schedule was this dysfunctional last year. “Huh?”
“The Walking Dead seasons,” Tonia clarifies, as if she’s not twelve years old and the show is for grown adults. He thinks. He hasn’t checked Commonsensemedia ever since La Signora labeled him as a “helicopter parent” and his Netflix tab has been playing How to Get Away with Murder as background noise for the past few weeks.
Isn’t it a show about zombies though? Tonia’s sheepish smile tells it all, because it’s the same exact guilty look he had when he got caught red-handed as a kid.
(Once he remembers later, Childe promises himself, he’ll check out The Walking Dead.)
“Oh. Well. I have a lot of shows to catch up on, you know. Not to mention a ton of my professors gave me reading for over the break.”
A half lie. They did give him a lot of reading because each professor assumed that their classes were his only one, and with seven days left, he still has a textbook worth of reading to go through. But there are no shows that Childe would sacrifice his precious sleep for. As a matter of fact, he would love to sleep. He’s spent the majority of his classes back in high school sleeping and faking attention, saving his grade at the last minute — it was quite the extreme sport really, if he says so himself.
Whenever he tries to sleep recently, his thoughts run at several hundred miles per hour, and he spends several hours staring at the ceiling before succumbing to the computer at his desk and watching trashy movies. At this point, he must have gone through the entire romance comedy list on Netflix. (Not a proud point in his life but if anybody ever wanted him to give a list of best to worst romance comedy movies, he now has one.)
Tonia, on the other hand, isn’t incredibly convinced.
Admittedly, the excuse was lame. Also, he can’t easily lie to his little sister, who’s far shrewder than he takes her for at times.
“You never start your reading in advance. You like to speed read it right before your class or watch a five-minute video on the chapters while your teachers take attendance. But that’s… uh, ‘a bad work ethic.’” Tonia looks immensely proud of herself as she says this, finishing it off with, “Zhongli told me that.”
“Zhongli?” he repeats, trying to remember if that’s one of her classmates or some stranger that’s hoping to kidnap his sister.
“The guy that volunteers at the library sometimes. He recommended me a loot of good books to read, but he talks like an old man.”
“How old?” Childe can tell she’s enjoying this — talking about her new friend at the library that he’ll probably have to run a background check on.
“Like he’s in his sixties or something. But he looks… actually, he looks your age! And he’s a student too. I told him all about you.”
Well, that doesn’t sound very reassuring coming from the mouth of a twelve-year-old. He’s not sure if that translates to his social security number, his current dilemma, or just that he’s her older brother.
“Like all of the stories you told me when I was a kid. And then when Lumine came to pick me up, she stayed to show him pictures of you too.”
“Of course she did,” he mumbles, ruffling her hair. One of these days he’s going to move without telling his classmates and the twins won’t enter his apartment unannounced. (But Tonia adores their company and the stories they tell her far too much for him to actually do it. But that doesn’t mean he’s above making threats when they tell his little sister about the bet he made about white-out and how it could dye hair. The jury is still out on this one.) “She’s just mad because I get away with it and she doesn’t. But don’t do it yourself. It’s a bad habit,” he adds, remembering that he should at least try to be a good influence on his younger sister when he can.
“Okaaay,” she says unconvincingly, before shaking her hair and running off to her room with lunch he prepared for her.
Watching her close the door and no doubt continue her binge of The Walking Dead, he takes out his phone and texts Lumine.

hope he does it
He opens his Youtube app, typing in Rex Lapis and expecting Lumine’s suggestion to be a joke. Despite them being friends for nearly two years now, she’s never made any indication of knowing his type. And he’s sure he’s never been that vocal about it either, only shooting appreciative looks at history majors and paying more attention than necessary to the TA for ‘Tradition of Justice and Law.’ (It’s unfortunate that those short-term crushes never led to anything, but maybe that’s for the better seeing that Childe has never understood the appeal of relationships.)
It is an ASMR channel, judging by the ASMR playlist he finds as he scrolls through the account. The icon shows no face — only a microphone — which leaves him skeptical. Most of the video titles belong in a petrology lecture as well, which makes him even more convinced that it’s a joke. He finds a few readings of ancient literature and decides to pick ‘I discuss the classification of igneous petrology as you fall asleep during my lecture (PART 1) (ASMR)’ because that’s exactly what he needs. (Not the very moment — but ten hours later when he’s in the bed memorizing the pattern of his ceiling wondering why he stole from his fifth grade teacher’s candy jar during lunch.)
When Childe opens the video, he damn near gasps.
The man in the video is exactly his type. His eyes are a soft amber color, framed with long lashes, and it’s almost enough for him to lose his dignity and message Lumine a long thank you text about how she is always right and he’ll pay for her coffee for the following week.  He smiles at the screen, albeit a little sheepishly, dark hair framing his face with a long ponytail that Childe can’t see the end of. On his right ear, there are a pair of earrings with a single feather that brush against his neck when he moves his head.
Even before he speaks, Childe is mesmerized, sure he’ll already memorize his features from the curve of his nose to the way he tilts his head, displaying the expanse of his neck.
Really — he reminds him of actors in historical dramas, the way he sits regally, and how he speaks. His voice is low and slow as he adopts a careful manner of speaking, leaning into the mic.
“I’m Rex Lapis, and I’ll be discussing igneous petrology today, which is part one in a three-part petrology series. I apologize in advance, seeing that my knowledge is limited compared to many petrologists out there but my friend Venti said that many of my viewers are here for my voice, so I’m very excited to start today’s video.”
Holy shit.
For the following week, Childe learns less about petrology, the philosophy of economics, and historical revisionism concerning matters of war and more about Rex Lapis, who is not in love with his voice but often finds himself in the middle of long tangents without explanations. His favorite book series is the Legend of the Lone Sword, which he says he’ll look forward to reading out loud for the channel. (Childe replays that part of the video again and again, captivated by his excitement as he mindlessly taps the mic while he speaks, his tangent cutting off mid-word — as it usually does, much to his dismay.)
His guilty obsession is not lost on Tonia, who realizes that instead of drinking Monster every night he’s been engrossed in his phone completely, often not noticing her or when the water starts bubbling. But because his sleeping schedule has been alleviated, she says nothing until Lumine comes over as she always does, not forgetting their weekly schedule of watching trashy movies while leeching off of Childe’s food.
Because he doesn’t trust the twins with the kitchen — even if they can cook — she instead spends her time sitting next to Tonia and spreading more of her anti-Childe propaganda while they wait. This usually involves Tonia occasionally calling out Childe’s name and asking, “Is that true?” or “Did you really do that?”
This time is different though.
Worried that Lumine finally decided to show Tonia a video of last semester’s presentation, he leans over, looking at the computer screen.
And he’s wrong. Unfortunately. Maybe it should’ve been his presentation because even if he botched it and accidentally projected his work process — screaming notes and all — to the class instead of his actual presentation, it would’ve been better than the two of them watching one of Rex Lapis’ videos together.
The ‘I read Erosion: Essays of Undoing to you as it rains outside’ video, to be specific, which is where Rex Lapis is embarrassed by Venti mid video when asked if this was his idea of a date with a lover. (And then it ends with Rex Lapis asking for video suggestions from the commentors, his face still flushed from the previous comments.)
Oh God — oh fuck.
“So he is your type,” Lumine says, her expression a bit too smug for his liking. Tonia looks half awake, scrolling through articles as the video plays, more interested in ‘Top 10 Glenn Rhee Moments’ than Childe’s crush. Her expression is a bit guilty as she does so — she’s biting her lip and avoiding his gaze, but he assumes that it’s just because they went through his YouTube history.
“I can neither confirm nor deny that statement,” he retorts, but the YouTube history she pulls up once Tonia hands the computer over to her says it all. (It’s quite mortifying, really — even Tonia is giving him a look, but it’s not as bad as Lumine’s shit eating grin.)
“Well… he does have a nice voice,” Childe finally says, thinking that perfectly encompasses his most recent obsession. Because he does have a nice voice — it’s soothing and speaks to him without really speaking to him directly. (The good looks are a bonus, he assures himself. A fantastic bonus, but a bonus nonetheless.)
“He does,” Tonia confirms, smiling toothily up at him, and he resists the urge to ruffle her hair with Lumine staring at him so skeptically. “But I don’t understand much of what he’s saying. He — heh — talks like an old man.”
“Don’t worry, Tonia, your brother likes him because he’s attractive,” Lumine informs her, now fast forwarding on one of Rex Lapis’ videos. “Did you know that he lives nearby?”
“Huh?”
The knife he’s holding clatters to the floor, and the two look down and back up at him with— hold on, why does it feel like they’re in on a secret he doesn’t know about?
“Yeah, he’s working on his grad thesis I think… Aether told me it was about something on history,” she muses. “That’s why I recommended his channel to you. He’s a bit of a celebrity in his department.” Childe’s sure his jaw dropped now, trying to maintain his facial expression as he takes out a new knife to chop up the onions.
“Really,” he tries to say as calmly as possible, wondering how he should accompany Aether to his lectures without trying to seem as obvious as possible. His voice is a bit shaky he realizes but he can’t quite make the connection between Rex Lapis and actual graduate student that goes to his university.
“Yeah, actually…” Lumine is definitely pretending to think now, enjoying this far too much. “He—”
“It’s Zhongli!” his little sister yells excitedly, practically jumping up and down at this point as if she won the lottery. “Zhongli runs an ASMR channel and he talks just like that in real life! Right, Lumine?”
“Yeah.”
Childe sighs, holding a hand up to his face. The realization that he’s been obsessed with the same guy that hears about every stupid thing he did secondhand is way too much — and the fact that he’s been listening to his voice every night before he went to bed the past week is way too much. He’s sure his face is redder than before judging by the amused expressions on Lumine’s and Tonia’s faces — really, they’re mirror images of each other right now.
Not for the first time, Childe swears to himself that he’ll never let her into his apartment without signing a contract ever again.

April Contest Submission #22: Lake Town Sunrise
Words: ca. 3,800 Setting: modern Lemon: no CW: loneliness, moving, high schoolers, mild angst, language
If anyone had asked Anna what she felt about moving halfway across the country to a tiny place called Lake Town during the fourth month of her senior year, well — she would have lied and said she didn’t mind at all. But no one had, so she didn’t have to lie to anyone. Not even herself. And she hated the move.
Anna had no choice in the matter but the seventeen year-old felt like she had no right to complain to her beloved grandfather, who had sacrificed his entire retirement life to raise her from an infant. If he wanted to move, there should be nothing holding him back. But Anna had to admit she wished he’d waited a few more months. Just a few more months and Anna would graduate and be out of his hair. On her own.
Until then, Anna was adjusting to an entirely new life in a new place with new people and new schoolwork. The piles of catch-up homework were her worst nightmare. She didn’t like to have bad grades so she was devoting all of her energy to her classes in an effort not to disappoint herself. As a result, she hadn’t had the time or energy to make a single friend from November to March, and as a social person, the loss of friendship was starting to drive her crazy. Nobody back home even returned her texts anymore; they’d completely moved on and Anna was stuck by herself in a town with only a lake she had yet to even visit, just trying to keep her head above water.
Just because she hadn’t made any friends, however, didn’t mean she hadn’t picked out a couple people from her classes she’d love to be friends with. One girl stood out to her in particular. She was in Anna’s writing class and they often paired up when the teacher required it. Her name was Elsa and she had the prettiest long white-blonde hair Anna had ever seen; usually worn in a braid or a ponytail. Every once in a while she let it loose in gentle waves; those were Anna’s favorite days.
Elsa was a quiet student, never talking with anyone around her. Anna noticed she usually had a sketchbook open and a pencil rhythmically scratching away. She’d give anything to know what Elsa was always drawing, but she couldn’t stare too long or the blonde would eventually glance up and catch her eye, causing them both to look away quickly, blushing.
Yesterday Elsa hadn’t come to school and Anna had found herself rather disappointed. She always looked forward to English class but without the other girl to pay attention to, Anna had stared at the clock, willing the hands to move faster. Was Elsa the only reason she enjoyed this class? They had barely had a complete conversation beyond relevant English topics. Still, Anna found herself begging the fates to let her see that sketchbook when she walked through the door to room 37b today.
A sigh of relief escaped her lungs when Anna rounded the corner and saw Elsa at the desk beside hers, legs crossed, focused entirely on the pencil meeting her paper. Anna approached; Elsa looked up and smiled when she saw who was there.
“Hi, Anna!”
“Hey,” she smiled back. “I missed you yesterday.”
“Oh yeah,” blonde eyebrows softened, “My grandma was a bit under the weather so I had to stay home and take care of her.”
“You live with your grandma?” Anna asked, pleasantly surprised.
“Yeah, it’s just the two of us.”
“Me too,” Anna encouraged, “but with my grandfather.”
“Oh wow! I don’t think I’ve met anyone else here in the same boat.” Elsa closed her sketchbook as Anna took a seat.
“It’s definitely a unique experience,” Anna laughed. She watched the fluorescent lights glimmer in Elsa’s eyes when she nodded in response.
Anna’s heart raced quietly while she pulled out her English notebook and folder. There were still a few minutes left before class began. Maybe she could think of something else to say before the chance was gone. But it was Elsa who took another stab at conversation first.
“What are you doing for spring break?” Elsa asked.
“Oh!” Anna smiled, excited. “Ever since moving here in the winter I’ve been drowning in either snow or catch-up homework, so I’m finally gonna take a break in the nice weather and see what this famous lake is all about! I’ve never even gotten…” she trailed off at the sight of Elsa’s grimace. “What?”
“Sorry,” Elsa said, “it’s just - you don’t want to be anywhere near the lake during spring break.”
“I mean I know it’s gonna be crowded—”
“You don’t understand. That lake is the only interesting thing in a 200 mile radius. Everybody in the entire state who can’t afford a real vacation will be swarming the town - especially the lake. All fucking week.”
“Oh.” Anna sighed, crestfallen. She had hoped to spend some time with her new classmates at the lake; they were still strangers to her after all this time. She had thought maybe she’d even make a friend there. But not now. “Wait, where does everybody go then? If the whole town gets taken over?”
“Well, some have to stick around to run the shops and everything, but most everybody scatters off to vacations of their own.” Elsa explained.
“And what about you?”
“My grandma doesn’t go anywhere. I’ll be around.”
Class started abruptly and the conversation was cut off. Anna didn’t hear a word of the lecture, as her thoughts swirled around her head. Thoughts of the forbidden lake, of people who got to experience “real” vacations, but mostly of Elsa. Elsa had talked to her for so long today - and seemed to enjoy it! Anna felt light and airy, like something was trying to lift her heart right out of her chest. Was this what it felt like, to be on the verge of friendship? Anna hadn’t even experienced these butterflies the entire time she dated Kristoff back home.
Wait. Did she have feeling-feelings for Elsa? Was that - was that allowed? Would Elsa ever —
The bell rang.
Everybody scrambled to pack their backpacks up, except for Elsa and Anna. Elsa jotted something down on a corner of a page in her sketchbook, then tore it out as Anna watched.
“Here,” Elsa held out the ripped corner. “That’s my address. Meet me there after school today when break starts. I wanna show you something.”
Anna took the paper and watched dumbfounded as Elsa left the classroom. Shaking her head out, she looked at the address. It was a five minute walk from her house.
When she flipped the piece of paper over in her hand, the other side (probably unintentionally) had part of a sketch. It was a person, cut off just below the shoulders. Anna stared in disbelief at her own freckled face smiling up at herself in graphite.
***********************************
Anna ran all the way home, making her 12 minute walk in 8 minutes. She found her grandpa sitting in his chair, working on a puzzle. Huffing and puffing from exertion, Anna made her way through the living room to the hallway, saying, “Hey, Gramps,” as she passed.
“In a hurry, child?” the old man replied, glancing up briefly from his puzzle.
“I made a friend, I’ll explain in a minute!” Anna called out as she jogged farther into the house.
She reached her room and threw her backpack to the ground before stripping off her clothes and staring at her closet, hoping something would jump out at her. Her chest heaved as the cool air helped dry the clammy skin of her torso. What was she supposed to wear to Elsa’s house for the first time, where she was going to quote-unquote ‘show her something?’ Was it something casual, something fancy? After a moment she settled on a cute tie dye t-shirt and black jeans. It was spring break after all, she should be able to wear something comfortable.
Anna glanced at her signature twin braids in the mirror. She pulled the hair ties out and ran her fingers through the locks, letting it fall apart into structured waves. Yep, that’s cute! she thought.
On her way back out through the house, Anna told her grandfather she was going to a new friend’s house, and that he should order a pizza for dinner. He had no complaints, but reminded her to be home by 10. Soon, Anna was out the door, headed in the direction of Elsa’s house.
This time, she walked deliberately slowly. Anna didn’t want to be out of breath when she got to Elsa’s house, nor did she want to get there earlier than Elsa might expect. Anna had rushed herself rather hard ever since that final bell rang, but now as she passed houses she had never seen and heard birds enjoying the spring afternoon, she had a few moments to think about what had happened earlier. Precisely: the conversation, the realization, and the invitation.
Just yesterday she was silently disappointed that Elsa was missing from class, and now they’d had a nice interaction, Anna thought she might have a crush on her, and Elsa invited her over to her house! It was all so sudden and exciting. Confusing, but exciting.
Do I really like her? Anna wondered. Well, comparing her feelings to what she used to feel around Kristoff was pretty telling. She thought Kristoff was cute and nice, and she liked how it made her feel when he told her how much he liked her. But maybe that wasn’t what love feels like. Maybe it’s more like what Elsa makes her feel… comfort, acceptance, longing, excitement. Not to mention how attractive she was, with her gorgeous hair and perfect face and shining blue eyes, bluer than anything Anna had ever seen…
Fuck.
Anna might have a little bit of a crush on Elsa. In fact, it might be huge.
But could Elsa ever feel the same way? They were both girls, so Anna felt it was unlikely Elsa had ever had a similar thought toward Anna. However, Anna felt the piece of paper in her pocket. The one with the drawing on the back. Why did Elsa draw her? Was this the only one and it happened to be on the exact page and corner she tore out? Or did she sketch Anna a lot?… Is that why sometimes when Anna was watching her draw, Elsa would glance up directly at her — because Anna was actually her subject?
She sighed. There was so much to think about all of a sudden. She almost wanted to go back to obsessing over her homework and ignoring everybody. But then she saw a mailbox with Elsa’s address and her heart rate took off. That was a normal reaction, right? Totally, for sure.
Anna wiped her clammy palms off on her jeans and consciously corrected her posture as she approached Elsa’s house. It was painted a nice sky blue, with navy shutters. There was an old car in the driveway, which disappeared past the other side of the building. In the front yard was a big pine tree looming over the house, at least three times as tall. As she approached, Anna noticed Elsa sitting at the base of the pine tree, under its canopy created by trimming the lowest branches. She waved from her shady spot when she noticed Anna.
“Hey!” Elsa called out. “You came!”
Anna jogged the last few steps and ducked under the branches to join Elsa’s shady dwelling. “Of course I came!” She grinned widely and plopped down across from the blonde, folding her legs into a criss-cross style. “This tree is amazing,” she remarked, looking up through its branches, barely able to see the bright sky filtering through them.
“Thanks,” Elsa patted the trunk she was leaning her back against, “she’s a good one. Great for quiet afternoons. But this isn’t what I wanted to show you.” She stood up, grabbing her sketchbook and brushing off her pants. “Follow me?”
We made our way across the lawn, past the car, and followed the driveway around the side of Elsa’s house. The drive stretched back past half of the small backyard, all the way to a strangely tall garage. It was wide enough for one car but was more like two-stories tall. Maybe a past owner had it built especially for a big vehicle or boat.
We stopped at the regular service door beside the big garage door and Elsa grabbed the handle, her fingers lightly trembling as they reached out. She was nervous to show Anna whatever was inside. Anna was racking her brain trying to guess what it could be. A boat for the lake they can’t go to? A weirdly tall truck? A collection of four wheelers? A quiet place perfect to trick Anna into a serial killer’s lair? No, of course not that one, jeez.
The door opened, the lights flicked on.
Anna’s jaw dropped.
She was wrong about everything.
Inside the garage, the entire space was transformed into a secret hideout of some kind. It like walking into a crazy treehouse but within the walls of a garage. There was a structure made out of lumber, expertly crafted together to form multiple separate areas as well as an elaborate winding staircase/ramp combo that wrapped around the walls, leading up to a partial upper level. All of the woodwork was bright blue with handpainted details which gave it all a realistic ice effect. Where the ceiling was visible there were tinted skylights letting in natural light, bathing everything in a blue glow.
To furnish the hangout, Elsa had a desk she clearly used for homework and art, a futon, multiple bean bag chairs, and who knows what else on the upper level. Anna reached out and laid a hand on Elsa’s arm. “This…” she shook her head out in disbelief. “This is not what I was expecting you to show me - but it’s incredible!”
“Thank you,” Elsa blushed slightly as she dipped her head down in gratitude.
“How did you do this? You made it all yourself?” Anna asked, touching the glossy surface of the painted wood beam closest to her.
Elsa scratched her neck, “Well, when I was little I always dreamed of having an ice palace, a place to get away from my daily life. I love my grandmother but sometimes I just needed to be a kid. As soon as we learned shop in middle school, I knew what I had to do. I asked permission to upgrade the garage and beyond that, my grandma doesn’t know or care what I do out here. She’s never seen it.” Elsa laughed. “So I’ve just been creating this space for myself over the years. I finally finished it last year with the paint job and everything. Oh, and I made the skylights myself by cutting holes through the roof and installing windows, weatherproofing the cracks. That was the hardest part of the whole garage.”
Anna smiled in disbelief. This quiet girl had a whole universe of creativity inside her head, and when the subject was something she was passionate about, she wasn’t quiet at all! Anna had never really been friends with an introvert, and apparently she had been missing out big time.
“You are…. so cool,” Anna finally said. “This is amazing!” She spun around, walking farther into the ice palace, looking up as the homemade skylights twisted in circles. After a minute, she got too dizzy and fell, landing on a beanbag with a thwump.
Elsa laughed and joined her on the nearest beanbag. “You really think so?”
“Of course!” Anna said.
“You’re the only person who I’ve ever invited here. The only one who’s ever seen it.”
“Wait, what?” Anna’s thoughts halted. “How is that possible?”
Elsa rubbed her arm anxiously, “Well, I… I don’t really have many friends. Or any friends, really. This place is my safe space, where I can get away from the world and truly be myself. Here I can read and create and relax, and nobody is here to judge me. I’ve never minded being alone.”
“So,” Anna tilted her head, trying not to come off as rude. “Then why did you invite me?”
Elsa’s cheeks bloomed with pink. “You’re the first person I’ve ever wanted to invite.”
Anna’s expression softened as Elsa continued, “I feel safe around you. Even though we didn’t talk much before today, I’ve wanted to get to know you ever since you first walked into my English class.”
Anna’s heart soared. “I’ve felt the same way about you. I lost all my friends when I moved… and as an extrovert, I struggled with that a lot. But I had so much homework to catch up on, I couldn’t find the time to reach out to anyone here. So instead I cut myself off from making friends and buried myself in class work. But the whole time I’ve lived here, I couldn’t help but feel drawn to you. I wished and wished and wished that you would be my friend, but it felt like I waited too long and I’d be stuck alone for the rest of high school.”
Elsa held her hand out for Anna to take. It felt so smooth against Anna’s palm, she never would’ve believed the hard work these hands had been through if she didn’t see it with her own eyes.
“Well I think it’s safe to say we’re friends now,” Elsa said.
“Absolutely,” Anna agreed. “Good luck getting rid of me at this point!”
*******************************
A couple of hours passed before Anna even checked the time. “I should probably be getting home,” she sighed. “Could we do this again tomorrow?”
Elsa nodded enthusiastically. “I’d like that. And actually, I was wrong before, about the lake. Everybody else’s spring break doesn’t start until Monday so the droves won’t be hitting town until tomorrow night. The lake would be pretty deserted if we got there really early.”
“Yes!” Anna made a fist.
“I mean like sunrise-early.”
“Yikes. Okay. No problem!” Anna wasn’t a morning person, especially when she had the choice to sleep in, but this was a great exception.
A sunrise on the lake with her new favorite person? Sounded like a dream come true!
Anna didn’t even dream that night. She woke a minute before her 3:30 alarm and sprang out of bed. Flipping on lamps here and there, she went to the kitchen to prepare some food. She made an egg scramble which her grandpa could reheat when he woke up, and then she made more sandwiches than she’d ever made at one time, leaving two in the fridge for his lunch, and taking the rest with her to share with Elsa later.
When her lunch pack was filled with ice and sandwiches, Anna went back to her room to write a note for her grandpa and change into her swimsuit. She didn’t know if there would be any getting in the water at this lake on an early spring morning, but she was ready just in case. Then she put a light green t-shirt on over the swimwear, along with dark blue jogging pants and a black and white tie dye hoodie. She probably clashed but Anna preferred to wear lots of different colors, not caring if they went well together.
A bit of a long walk later, and Anna arrived at the street corner Elsa told her about. It was right at the lake. Anna set her lunch bag on the pavement and leaned against the street lamp pole. She felt in her pocket for that ripped piece of sketchbook paper, gently running her fingers over its edges. Before long, Elsa approached in the dim lamp light.
“Good morning,” Elsa said in a quiet voice. The way it sounded so …intimate made Anna’s stomach butterflies go for a loop.
“Morning, Elsa.” Anna smiled, picking up her bag. Elsa led the way toward the lake where they found an empty pier. They walked all the way to the end and sat on the edge, dangling their legs over the dark lake. It was about a ten foot drop beneath their feet to the surface of the water, where it gently rippled just for them.
They sat quietly in the darkness until the faintest tinge of light started appearing along the horizon. It was a gentle pale blue, barely discernible from the rest of the sky at first. Slowly, it gained more light, moment by moment. Soon the light blue was joined by pale yellow, then peach. When a brilliant pink appeared on wispy clouds, Anna couldn’t help but feel it was a metaphor for how quickly and beautifully her friendship with Elsa had bloomed.
Her feelings for Elsa developed like a brightening dawn.
It was light enough now to see each other if either girl dared to turn. Anna felt for the paper in her pocket and slowly pulled it out.
“Elsa?”
“Hmm?” Elsa answered, still staring at the pink clouds, now turning orange.
“Do you draw everyone in class?”
“What do you mean?” Elsa asked.
“When you’re sketching in your notebook, do you draw our classmates? Or anyone in particular?” Anna’s heart was beating so loud she was sure Elsa could hear it.
“Oh. Um,” Elsa hesitated. “I don’t draw a lot of different people. Only the ones who mean something to me.” She glanced sideways at Anna. “Why?”
“This piece of paper you wrote your address on…” Anna held it in her hand. Elsa’s head turned to look. “I couldn’t help but notice this drawing on the back. You probably didn’t mean—”
Elsa swiftly took the paper from Anna’s fingertips and gasped when she saw the sketch. “Anna, I can explain.”
“Hey, don’t worry,” Anna placed a calming hand on Elsa’s. “You don’t have to explain anything.”
“I don’t?” Elsa asked, her face visibly red even in the low light.
“No.” Anna said. “I was just making sure I understood how you felt, before…” she trailed off.
“Before?”
Anna reached up and touched Elsa’s chin with her thumb and first finger. She gently tilted Elsa’s head as her eyes asked an important question. Elsa’s breath shook as she nodded slightly. Anna leaned in sweetly, but with purpose, as she let her lips softly brush against Elsa’s. They both let out a nervous breath before closing in again. This time, Anna could really feel the connection between their lips. Anna’s eyes fluttered closed.
She no longer needed to see the picture perfect sunrise, for the colors bursting in her heart and behind her eyelids were even more beautiful.

Mid-2021 Blog Update
Hey guys.
So... It’s been a while. Quite a while... and I want to lay some things out as to why I’ve been gone and the blog has practically been dead in the water for half a year, if not for a whole year.
I want you to know that what I’m going to say will be in heavy detail. I’m comfortable speaking on it, and what information doesn’t just include me will be using either public details that I know I can share or will be put in a short and sweet manner.
This is your trigger warning: If you need to click off or scroll past due to the mention of extremely bad mental health, toxic relationships and households, the mention of depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts, please do so now.
. . .
First off, I’ve lessened the amount of time I’ve been online due to my mental health. I was put on antidepressants as well as told to take anti-anxiety gummies in November and will be weaned off of those starting this October. A lot of my family and relationship drama on top of the world practically shutting down and going into chaos thanks to COVID-19 just took a major toll on me. With so much on my shoulders, stress from living with said things on my shoulders, unsupportive family members, and an emotionally distant partner, I was at one of the lowest points in the life. I’d never had to be on mood-related medication in my life until last November. I’d always been able to handle what was thrown at me, but mid- to late-2020 was what knocked me down that low for the first time in my life. Suicidal thoughts came and went (they weren’t often, only when I couldn’t bottle my emotions up any longer but didn’t have a way to express them either), but even when they did, I knew that it was just in my head. I never once chose to act on them, because to me, that is not a way to solve a problem or escape your inner demons. All it does it put your personal suffering onto those around you -- your friends, family, and those who cared about you even when you don’t see it -- and it doesn’t do anyone any good. When my doctor asked me about suicide, that’s the very explanation I gave her. Yes, they happened, but I’d never act on them; it’s not a way out and it puts your pain onto others and only worsens the situation for the long-term.
Aside from that, though... I move on to other personal reasons for my absence that helped trigger what was mentioned above. Mid-August of 2019, my then fiancé's mother was murdered by two 17yr old boys of whom she and their family knew. Going off the information that was made public, one boy had mixed meth with marijuana prior to the killing. He claimed that my fiancé’s mother mouthed off and made a derogatory comment about his deceased mother, thus sparking the incident. While he claims to have only stabbed her once, the autopsy report shows that her head/face and upper torso were “hacked, slashed, and chopped” repeatedly with “various sharp, bladed objects”. Not only did they murder her, the two individuals also set the grass around her body on fire along with her home. When we found out about this having happened, I had no idea how bad it would have turned my relationship upside-down. My now ex-fiancé didn’t come from a great childhood, there was abuse and CPS, among other things. But he had managed and was a good person. He could make me laugh and tear up at his jokes, sang beautifully, and did everything to make those around him happy. When he lost his mom, it broke him. It shattered his very being, because not only did he know the two who caused it to happen, he also was unable to reconcile and make amends with his mother for what he went through as a child. He was robbed of being able to forgive and be on good terms with her, and it broke him. He stopped communicating with family, he took bereavement after being pulled from work by family the day it was confirmed to be his mother only to to fired 3 months down the line when he tried to go back (fuck Walmart for that btw), and was slowly becoming a hypochondriac. He stopped talking to me, he would cry in his sleep, and grief made him lash out as was expected. But as the days dragged on, his motivation and care towards finding a new job dwindled. He and my mother would fight endlessly and I was caught in the middle of it, as we all were in one household. There were times in which I would keep my phone on my leg and record for my own personal documentation should I need it due to how bad my own mother would belittle me, belittle my ex behind his back, and just scream and go off. When I’d turn to my ex for comfort, he wasn’t much help due to his own deteriorating mental health. He took to discord, specifically the Vampire the Masquerade community, as his escape from reality. He eventually would hardly talk to me at all, show no compassion, and at times I tried to speak with him about getting a new job or suggesting part-time ones that I felt would be easy and as stress-free as possible for him, I would be shooed away without a word; if I tried to further my attempt to have the conversation, he eventually got an attitude and would just say “Bye!” over and over again while shooing with his hand to get me to leave. There were many days where I’d get off work and sit in the bathroom for an hour and cry because of my frustration and how I felt stuck between two people I cared about deeply (ie. my ex and my mother).
My ex has since moved out and no longer lived with us. He and I are no longer together, and he has cut off all communication to me along with his family. He isn’t living in California anymore, really. He met up with discord friends and is in another state. That’s the last I heard from him. That’s the last his family heard. He doesn’t talk to us or attempt to reach out or respond when his family reaches out. I still very much care about him and want him to get better, but if he has to do so by being away from everyone, then so be it.
While I was letting - or shutting out, rather - the emotions I was feeling once he officially moved out, I relapsed with my anxiety tick; with my trichotillomania. I have a good number of smaller, thinned out spots in my hair from unconsciously pulling out strands of hair when my emotions didn’t know how to regulate. I’m still fighting to get this under control, as I do still catch myself doing it and so does my mother. It currently is not as bad as when my ex first moved out and I had to adjust back into sleeping alone and without someone next to me, but I do still pull. I am looking into trying to get my sister to order me a HabbitAware bracelet for me this Christmas in order to help get my tick back under control. I know its something I will live with forever and go in and out of doing, as there is no cure or medication to curb trichotillomania, but its something to help me be more aware of how often I do pull and to train it to no longer be a muscle memory response.
Most recently, I’ve had to stop taking melatonin. I’ve had bouts of insomnia since my ex left, and eventually I took enough melatonin to not only build an immunity to it but also a slight dependence. I was taking more than I should have been, and I noticed the signs of it and have stopped taking melatonin altogether. Due to this, I have switched to hempseed oil gummies. I take 2 before bed and they have helped wonderfully. But, due to how easy it was for me to become dependent on melatonin, I do plan to take brief breaks from the gummies to avoid a similar situation. I also do not plan on seeking an insomnia medication due to the same reasons. I knew what I was doing was wrong and I knew i was becoming addicted, and due to this I do not wish to risk it happening with a prescription sleep medication. I will deal with my bouts of insomnia as they come.
I also am conquering my insecurities towards others knowing I am a fan of Michael Jackson; a moonwalker. In elementary school (5th grade, 2009), I went through a heavy obsessive phase when he passed. I’d never heard of him, and when I listened to his music that firs time I was instantly hooked. I was ridiculed at school after I performed “Thriller” during a talent show; I had classmates going as far as saying that I must want him to kidnap and r*pe me if I enjoyed his music so much. I didn’t understand the gravity of those comments back then the way that I do now that I’m 23, but I still knew to an extent that what they were saying was in now way a good thing. I shut out his music from mid-6th grade all the way until this year. I hadn’t listened to a single song aside from hearing “Thriller” on the radio during October. For my birthday this year, I had a friend take me out of town and get away for a day. The entire time, she surprised me by playing hours of his music when in the car with her. It has since reopened that connection to his music and I’ve been listening to his songs with a fresh take, with the mind of an adult who can comprehend his words and understand finally what he’s saying for each song. As such, I’ve become more comfortable with others knowing I’m a moonwalker. You can have your opininos of the man, you can choose to believe the tabloids and junk media or make your own conclusions after assessing the details and documents of his life, but I will enjoy the same freedom of opinion.
I know this is getting pretty long, but I wanted to fill those who still might be checking up on this blog for any sort of update or spec of life coming from it in on what’s practically killed the blogs for a good chunk of time.
I do plan to slowly start doing stuff again after Halloween. I have a video made that I plan to post for Halloween and I look forward to letting Kikumi and the others be open for asks again. Until then, may the wind guide you all. I hope everyone can have a safe and wonderful rest of August. I will see you in October.

Distance | Shirabu Kenjiro x Reader
Tumblr media
✧ Summary: Having attended Shiratorizawa Academy from junior high, you were familiar with most of the students in your year. They were average, nothing special — until a certain vbc setter, from god knows whatever small town junior high he crawled out of, changed up your world.
-> warnings: none — maybe language cause it’s shirabu; fluff and slight angst :)
And another female on the team seemed to be interested with the middle-blocker of Karasuno!1

Introduction Part One Introduction Part Two Masterpost
Summary: After starting their junior year in high school, the Jones twins find themselves meeting new people, setting them on a track towards new friendships, new romances, new heartbreaks, and many new adventures.
Pairings: (Eventual) Scarlett Jones x Finian de Seel, Tyler Jones x Saedii Gilwraeth, and Aurora O'Malley x Kaliis Gilwraeth
Word count: 4,708
Author's Notes: This is the new project I've been raving about! I've been very into this book series lately, and I was feeling inspired. However, this won't be like my other two projects, so it won't be in the regular rotation! Instead of being a chaptered fic, this is going to be a series of oneshots that gets developed as people request ideas. I do have some more ideas up my sleeve, but I will be accepting requests very soon!
Important Author's Notes: This story contains a character who uses a wheelchair. I did do some research, but since I don't experience it, it's virtually impossible for me to be an expert on this topic. If you are more knowledgeable about this than I might be, and you notice an inaccuracy, please let me know what it is and I'll try to fix it!
It was a Friday in October. October was one of the best times of the year in the opinion of one Scarlett Jones. It was after September, so everyone had already gotten used to being at school. But it wasn't quite December yet, so you could go outside without having to wear eight jackets. Plus the slightly warmer fall months were some of the best times of the year for fashion, and Scarlett would know. She had plenty of experience in that field. The amounts of people wearing scarves and sweaters increased tenfold, which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on the rest of their outfits.
But the fashion habits of her classmates didn't really matter, despite the fact that she could go on and on about the topic. What mattered slightly more was the fact that her brother was desperately trying to get her attention as they approached the school.
"Scar? Scarlett?" Tyler waved his hand in front of his sister's face.
"Hm?" She quirked an eyebrow. "I wasn't listening, what was that?"
Tyler rolled his eyes and adjusted the way his backpack was resting on his shoulder. "I was saying that I need you to tell Coach de Stoy that I can't make practice tonight. I've got too much work to catch up on, and I don't want to fall behind this early in the year."
"Yeah, yeah, we get it. Mr. Tyler Jones, star player on the football team, passing all his classes with flying colors." Scarlett nudged her brother, not hard enough to hurt, but just hard enough to be a little annoying. "Careful, or you'll make everyone feel bad about themselves."
"Oh shut up." Tyler smiled, standing up a little bit taller to look for someone in the crowd of people flooding through the front doors. When he spotted her, he raised his hand high above his head and waved.
Cat Brannock slowed down her walk to fall into step alongside the twins. Somehow, despite the cool and cloudy weather, she was still wearing a short sleeved shirt that showed off the tattoos on her arms. She had the most tattoos of any high schooler Scarlett had ever seen. But they were very well done, so she could understand why her friend wanted them to be visible. Cat had skipped the 5th grade, so she was a senior even though the Joneses were juniors. She was already looking towards college. Neither of the twins were looking forward to her leave. It would be weird to not have her around all the time, the three of them were rarely very far apart since they'd met in kindergarten. But they couldn't really do much to stop her from going, after all, college was what she wanted.
"Hey, kids." Cat smirked. "Let me guess, Tyler's fretting over his errands and Scar's making fun of him for it?" She gestured to each person as she mentioned them.
"Just the daily routine." Scarlett winked, linking elbows with her friend.
Cat laughed. "Do you two ever get tired of doing the same shit every day?"
"Never. Routines are what lead to mastery." Tyler said proudly.
"Just say 'practice makes perfect', Ty." Scar shook her head. "If you try to get too fancy with your words, no one's going to know what you're talking about."
"That's easy for you to say, no one ever knows what you're talking about." Tyler retorted. Scarlett stuck her tongue out at him. "It's not my fault that-"
Tyler was cut off by a girl bumping into him. She'd been very absorbed in whatever she was doing on her phone, so she didn't see him coming. The shock of bumping into someone made her look up, giving the rest of them a better look at her face. The first thing you'd notice about her would be that she had a streak of white dyed in her otherwise black hair. The second thing you'd notice would be that one of her eyes was dark brown, and the other one was really light blue. Almost colorless. She hugged her notebooks close to her chest.
"I'm- I'm sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going. I should've been watching." She apologized sheepishly.
"Don't worry about it, it's fine. I should've been paying attention too." Tyler shrugged.
"Oh… thanks." The girl looked slightly confused, as if she expected someone as intimidating-looking as Tyler to react less calmly. But despite his appearance, he was practically the human embodiment of a golden retriever. "Well, I should really get to class."
And just like that, the mystery girl was gone. Scarlett couldn't help but notice that she'd never seen that girl before. It wouldn't have been surprising if she just didn't like to be the center of attention. Or maybe they just didn't have any of the same classes. Either way, Scar would be lying if she said that she wasn't intrigued.
A few minutes later, Scarlett and Tyler were sitting at their desks in the first class of the day while the morning announcements droned on in the background. Scarlett knew the girl who did them every day. Her name was Zila Madran, she'd been Scarlett's tutor in freshman year. They still talked occasionally, but they ran in very different circles, so they didn't see each other often. Eventually, the announcements ended, and the second bell rang. The first bell was always more of a warning, like 'okay, you'd better at least be in the building'. But the second bell was the 'get your asses to class' bell. And if you were still in the hallway after the second bell, then you were screwed.
Scarlett was fully prepared to fully zone out and stare at a guy across the room for the entirety of class, until of course Miss Mystery walked in. She looked like she was going to just sit down at a free desk and call it a day, but the teacher stopped her.
"Ah, Miss O' Malley! I see you've found your way here. Class, this is the new student, Aurora O' Malley. She will be joining us for the remainder of the year." The teacher explained. "Please make her feel welcome."
Oh, so she's a new kid. Scarlett thought to herself. That's why I haven't seen her around before.
Frankly, Aurora looked quite embarrassed after the surprise introduction. Maybe Scarlett had been right about her not enjoying the spotlight. Whatever the case, that was the last interesting thing that happened for the entire rest of class. The rest of it was spent going over poetry… or was it a play? She wasn't paying any kind of attention, it could've been fractions and decimals for all she knew, despite the fact that they were in English class. She didn't need to know about Shakespeare and all of his friends, it wasn't like she was ever going to meet them. She had better things to do anyway.
Time ticked by slowly. Scarlett was sure she almost dozed off once or twice. She was only fully awake again when the bell rang, then she practically jumped out of her seat. It only took her a minute to put her notebook and pen back into her bag, but by the time she'd finished, Tyler was already talking to Aurora. Scarlett listened in on their conversation.
"I was just wondering if maybe you could show me around?" Aurora asked. "I know we don't know each other too well, but you're the only person I've talked to all day, and I get lost really easily around here."
"Sure. This place is like a maze to anyone new, so I'd be happy to show you the ropes." Tyler nodded.
"Well that was fast. I didn't even have to tell you that you get to skip two class periods." Aurora smiled.
That had Scarlett's interest piqued. It wasn't that she didn't like school, but she was feeling especially done with the world that day. A two-period break sounded like exactly what she needed. "Do you mind if I tag along?"
"Oh, um, sure." Aurora nodded. She looked back at Tyler. "You know her, right? I saw you guys walking together this morning."
"Yeah, I know her. This is my sister, Scarlett." Tyler gestured to his sister.
"Nice to meet you." Scarlett smiled. "I like your hair, by the way."
"Thanks." Aurora looked a little surprised at the compliment, but not in a bad way. It had done a good job of breaking the ice.
The next two hours were okay, if not slightly boring. Scarlett had severely overestimated how fun this would be. She was at least glad that their absence from class was officially excused. That was the bright side. The first place they went was the multi-purpose lab, which was used for most of the science classes. Next, they went to all of the important classrooms. Math, Social Studies, the works. Then on to the important but less necessary rooms, like the auditorium, the cafeteria, and the gym. They only briefly went over the principal's office, figuring that she had to have been there already. Just as they were finishing their tour, the bell rang to signify the end of period three. Students began flooding out of classrooms.
"And I guess that's all we have time for." Tyler clapped his hands once. "Welcome to Aurora High School."
"You know, I just realized how weird it's going to be to go to a school that I share a name with." Aurora glanced at a nearby banner that had the school's name on it.
"You'll get used to it eventually." Scarlett tapped her on the shoulder.
For a moment, things were looking up. Their little tour was over and done with, there were only six periods left in the day, and Scarlett had gotten to miss math and a study hall, one of which was one of her least favorite classes. But that little bit of optimism was quickly shot down. As the three of them rounded a corner, everything exploded into a burst of noise and motion. Faster than you could blink, a fight had broken out. It had to be about four or five guys, all beating the absolute shit out of each other. It didn't take long for a crowd to gather. Tyler took it upon himself to see what was going on. He pushed through all the people to get to the center of things.
"Hey! What's going on here?" Tyler barely had time to finish his sentence before he got decked in the face. Apparently this group didn't take kindly to people trying to mediate things.
Aurora gasped as Tyler was dragged into the fight. Scarlett felt for her. It was only her first day, and things were already going wrong. That must not have made her feel too good. Her mismatched eyes darted back and forth as she tried to keep up with all the flying fists. Scarlett suspected that she'd never seen a real fight before. She looked nervous.
"I'll… I'll catch up with you later." Aurora decided, turning around and speed-walking away. Scarlett watched her leave.
When she turned to face the action again, she saw Principal Adams making his way through the crowd. Three of the guys had fled the scene, leaving just Tyler and one other boy to take the blame. She didn't know who the second guy was, but he was taller than Tyler, which wasn't the easiest thing to be.
"What do you two think you're doing?" Adams crossed his arms.
"I'm sorry sir. I was just trying to stop the fight, I swear." Tyler's shoulders sagged. The other boy stayed eerily quiet, but still stood tall, seemingly not as ashamed of himself as Tyler was.
"Yes, well, joining in on the fight isn't really stopping it." Adams shook his head. "I'm afraid I'll need both of you to pay a visit to my office." He looked around at the rest of the students. "The rest of you, get to class. There's nothing to see here anymore."
It took a minute for everyone to leave, but eventually they did, until the last one left was Scarlett. "Ty, do you want me to come with you?"
Tyler nodded. Whenever possible, if they had to face a potentially scary situation, they would do it together. It had been that way since they were little kids. At that point, it had become a reflex for them to ask if the other needed support.
"Alright Miss Jones, you can come, but I will need to talk to these two separately. You weren't a part of the fight, so you don't have to be a part of the punishment." Adams told her. He began walking away, and the three of them followed.
A moment later, they found themselves in the waiting room of the principal's office. Tyler and the other boy sat next to each other on one end of the room, and Scarlett sat next to a different boy on the other end. Tyler mostly just stared at the floor, but he would occasionally glance at the guy next to him. This dude was very tall. Even Tyler was pretty intimidated, and that was completely unrelated to the fact that he'd just been beaten up by this guy. He had long black hair and dark blue eyes. He looked like someone straight out of a fantasy novel. And apparently, he was also very attentive, because he noticed Tyler looking at him.
"Is there something you wanted to tell me?" The boy asked. His voice was deep and serious, and he had a faint accent that Tyler couldn't quite place.
"Oh. No, not really." Tyler offered his hand. "I'm Tyler, by the way."
"I am aware. My name is Kaliis, though my friends call me Kal." The boy answered, not shaking Ty's hand and instead opting to ignore it.
"You put up a real fight back there, Kal. Do you do sports?" Tyler asked him.
"I don't participate in school sports, no. I take fencing lessons outside of school." Kal said.
"Cool." Tyler nodded appreciatively. "But if you ever wanted to join the football team, I'm sure we'd be able to find a spot for you."
Kal smiled, but just a little. It was barely noticeable. "My sister would kill me if I joined the football team. She thinks all of you are buffoons."
"Wow, harsh." Tyler laughed. "But hey, no harm no foul. Do you have any paper I could use?"
"I don't. Why do you ask?" Kal raised an eyebrow.
"I'll write down my number, maybe we could hang out sometime." Tyler looked around for a second, then got up to grab a napkin and a pen. He wrote down his name and phone number, then handed the napkin to Kal. "There you go."
"Thank you." Kal folded the napkin up and put it into his pocket. They both looked up as the door to the principal's office opened.
"Tyler Jones? Kaliis Gilwraeth? You can come in." Adams gestured for them to follow him, and they did.
Scarlett had been eavesdropping on Tyler and Kal's entire conversation. It seemed like Tyler had made a new friend, which was good. And also strange, given the fact that they'd met during a fist fight. But good nonetheless. However, when they vanished into the principal's office, she became eternally bored. She turned to look at the boy next to her. He was busy scrolling through the homepage of some website on his phone. She couldn't quite tell what it was, so she looked up at his face instead. He was quite possibly the palest person she had ever seen. It looked like the sun had never touched his skin. His hair was a light, light blond to match. The only thing that threw off his whole snow prince vibe were his eyes, which were such a dark brown that they almost looked black. She couldn't tell the difference between his irises and pupils. He wasn't the most impressive guy she'd ever seen, but all things considered, he was a little attractive.
"Whatcha doing?" Scarlett asked, leaning towards him and resting on the arm of her chair.
"Checking notifications. I've been in here for a hot minute and Adams still hasn't found time for me." The boy shook his head. "I guess two guys beating each other up is more important than little old me."
"Well what are you in for?" Scarlett brushed her hair out of her face.
"Someone locked three teachers' car keys into their cars. They assumed it was me because I kept leaving class." He shrugged.
"I'm going to take a wild guess: it was you, wasn't it?" She smiled.
"Oh, yeah, totally." He laughed. "Frankly, I would've been intimidated if it wasn't. I like to think that I'm the only guy in this whole school who can pull off a stunt that awesome."
"How did you do it?" Scar crossed her legs.
"You ask a lot of questions. This isn't an interrogation, is it? Did Adams put you up to this?" The boy smirked. He switched the tab on his phone to a time killer game.
"Don't worry, I'm not a secret agent. I'm just curious." She said coyly. The boy's smile dropped. He looked genuinely surprised that anyone would actually want to listen to him, which made her feel kind of bad. But she would've felt worse if he was actually looking at her instead of at his phone. "Anyway, what do you do around here? Outside of this room, I mean."
"I'm on the tech crew for the school play. I used to go to robotics club too, but I dropped out after I realized that I was making everyone feel bad about themselves." And just like that, his sarcastic facade was back up.
"With what, your skills in robotics or your charming personality?" Scarlett retorted.
"Why can't it be both?" He pointed out.
"It can be both when you tell me what I'm supposed to call you." She countered. "I'm Scarlett. Scarlett Jones."
"Touché." He turned off his phone for the first time since they'd started talking, and looked up at her. The moment he saw her face, his eyes widened and he sputtered like a broken engine for a moment before finding his words. "I'm single. Are you Fin?"
Scarlett tried her absolute best to hold back a laugh. This was something she'd witnessed many times before. He'd been trying to ask if she was single, but had failed miserably. "I'm actually not Fin, but I think you might be."
"...Oh." Fin realized his mistake. He shook his head a little to get himself back on track. "Yeah… Yeah, I'm Fin. Finian if you want to be fancy about it. Or Finian de Karran-de Seel if you're mad at me."
"I'll try not to be mad at you then, because that's a mouthful." Scarlett nudged his shoulder with her own.
Fin shrugged. "Yeah, it's hyphenated. It almost never fits on the line when I have to write my name on an assignment."
Scarlett smiled. "I'll tell you what, how about I put my number into that phone of yours, and I'll text you later?"
"Sure." Fin was quick to open up his contacts and hand over his phone.
"Do you have a habit of handing your phone to complete strangers?" Scar asked, typing in her name and number. The phone looked very new, and very expensive. There was no denying that.
"Not always. But one time I gave my phone to one of my cousins expecting him to give it back right away, and he didn't give it back for eight days. He's older than me, so I couldn't really do anything about it, but my mom and aunts got mad at him." Fin rambled. "He's kind of an ass, to be honest. Not to mention that I owe him a favor from one time when he washed the dishes for me. He's been holding it over my head for weeks. And I borrowed twenty bucks from him, so I owe him that too."
Scarlett handed his phone back to him, and just as he finished talking, the door opened. Tyler and Kal stepped out. Fin looked them over and let out a low whistle. Scarlett decided to do a science experiment, and glanced at him. He was checking out her brother. She made a mental note of that.
"Have you been chatting it up out here, Scar?" Tyler asked.
"Maybe." She stood up. "Don't worry, he didn't ask me out."
"You say that as if I would assume that he did." Tyler smiled. Scarlett conducted another experiment, knowing that Ty's smile had quite the fanbase. Fin was leaning back in his chair, eyes slightly widened. Yeah, he was definitely checking out her brother.
The door to the principal's office opened a second time, and Adams poked his head out. "Finian de Karran-de Seel?"
"Well would you look at that. I guess our time together has come to an end." Fin started to go towards the door. "But I'll see you around, hopefully."
Scarlett hadn't noticed before, but when he moved, she saw that Fin was in a wheelchair. She hadn't taken the time to really look, so she'd just assumed he was sitting in the same kind of chair that she was. She'd assumed that he was just wearing gloves because he liked them. Evidently, she was wrong. It was honestly pretty interesting, and she had plenty of questions, but figured that it would probably be best not to ask them. They'd only known each other for about fifteen minutes, it wasn't necessarily time to get super personal.
"Yeah. I'll text you later." Scarlett waved to him, and he waved back.
Then she, Kal, and Tyler left the office. As soon as the door closed behind them, Tyler let out a sigh of relief. "I'm so glad we're out of there. I don't know how much longer I could deal with Adams' 'disappointed' look."
"What'd he say?" Scarlett asked.
"He said that he was not mad, only disappointed, and that the two of us should have known better." Kal explained briefly.
"We got off with a week's worth of after school detention, starting Monday." Tyler frowned.
"Who would've thought! Star student Tyler Jones, in detention? Unbelievable." Scarlett pretended to be indignant.
"I know, it's not-" Tyler caught on to her sarcasm. "Oh, okay, I get it. But don't expect my sympathy if you ever get detention for a week."
"I wasn't expecting it anyway, you absolute child." She tapped him on the shoulder.
"Scarlett, you are three minutes older than me." Tyler said, gesturing with his hands out of frustration.
"Yup, three very long and important minutes." Scarlett nodded. "I'm glad you're with me on this one."
"I feel like this is not a conversation that I need to be a part of." Kal decided.
"Yeah, probably not, but we still like having you around." Scarlett winked jokingly.
The three of them walked down the hallway together, parting ways only when they had to go to their separate classes. Tyler had gym, Kal had math, and Scarlett had social studies. It was one of the only classes that she actually enjoyed going to. It might seem strange to some people, considering the rest of her personality, but history had always fascinated her. She liked learning about different conflicts and how they were solved. That was why she joined the debate team. She liked arguing when she knew it wasn't for real, and she was very persuasive.
Periods five, six, seven, eight, and nine crawled by slowly. When your day had been as exciting as Scarlett's had, anything less interesting was boring. After social studies was art. Then lunch. After that was science. And finally, gym. She hated going home after gym, because her hair and makeup would always get messed up, then she had to go on the bus that way. She wished that Coach de Stoy would let them take a few minutes after class to get cleaned up, but instead the class always went right to the bell. It was annoying. Plus, then she had to run to the bus every day, which was like a second gym class.
The bus ride home wasn't very eventful, thankfully. Usually there would be at least someone in the back yelling, or playing their music too loud, but not that day. And frankly, it was very refreshing.
When Scarlett and Tyler got home, they took off their bags and jackets and hung them on the hooks by the door. It was quiet for a moment, but not a long moment.
"Welcome home, you two." A voice called from the living room.
"Hey, Adams." The twins responded in unison.
They'd been living with Principal Adams since their father died when they were kids. The two had been close friends, and since their mother wasn't around, he was the next highest choice. The Joneses were also the only ones with permission to call him by only his last name. They usually tried to keep school and home separate, except for a few rare occasions. That day was one of those occasions. Upon walking into the living room, Tyler got another one of those disappointed parent looks. Scarlett took this opportunity to sneak upstairs.
"Tyler. Why, exactly, did you think that trying to intervene in a fight was the right choice?" Adams asked, putting down the book that he was reading.
"I don't know, they were really hurting each other! I had to do something!" Tyler raised his voice a little.
"You don't need to get upset with me. I'm not upset with you. I'm just worried about you." Adams clarified. Tyler pulled up a chair to sit across from him. "Sometimes you do have to try to help. But you also have to pick your battles."
Tyler sighed. "I understand."
"Good. That's all I needed from you." Adams picked up the book again. Tyler put the chair back and went upstairs to his room.
He sat down on his bed and picked up his phone from where it had been charging on the nightstand all day. He never brought it to school, it was a distraction. Upon opening it, he saw that he had a message from a few hours ago.
Kal G: Hello. This is Kal.
Tyler added him to his contacts and slid the notification away, then moved on. He opened up the chat he had with Scarlett.
Tyler J: Adams gave me a talking to.
Tyler J: I thought the talk today at school was enough, but I guess not.
Scarlett J: Is he mad?
Tyler J: He said no, but I think he is.
Scarlett J: Maybe if we get out of the house for a while, you'll feel better?
Scarlett J: Fresh air could be good, we should go to the park.
Tyler J: Could we invite some friends?
Scarlett J: Yeah, you text some people and I'll text some people.
Scarlett J: Meet me downstairs in 5?
Tyler J: Got it.
Tyler hit send on the last message, then switched chats. He sent messages to Kal, Aurora, and Cat.
Tyler J: Scarlett and I are going to the park, want to come with?
He got responses from each of them in no time.
Kal G: I am free for the rest of the day. I will have to bring my sister though, if that's alright.
Cat B: I bet I'll get there faster than you.
Aurora O'M: Can you tell me which one? If so, I'll be there.
After quickly responding to each of them, he got up and put his phone in his pocket. He speed-walked down the stairs and grabbed his sweatshirt. Scarlett was already waiting for him, having donned a light jacket and scarf. She was using her phone camera to reapply her lipstick when Tyler came down. After a final touch-up, she zipped her phone into her jacket pocket and smiled at her brother.
"Ready to go?" She asked.
"Ready." Tyler nodded. Then, they were out the door and on their way to the park.

You Know, For Research Purposes - Tom Holland x Reader College!AU
Tumblr media
Summary: Working on their research project, group mates Miles, Ned, Haz, Betty, Tom and Y/N grew closer together over the course of a few months. Also, how does Cheetos and ice cream taste together? ;)))
Word Count: 2,433
A/N: (gif not mine.) lolz hi! Look what boredom did to me.. I made a fanfic... [first time doing this idk what to do so there's that moving on. Hope u like it! Geronimo.]
Tom ran his fingers through his hair, tugging at the strands with force. He banged his head lightly on the table. He looked back at his Lit folder and saw he still had half of it to finish. He closed it and decided he would do it later. Managing the research project and studying for exams were taking a toll on his body and his sanity. He got up and went to the get some water.
It was halfway through midnight. His parents and brothers were asleep on their rooms. Miles, Haz, Y/N, Betty and Ned - his Qualitative Research applied subject classmates were sprawled all over the living room, laptops shoved to their faces, bond papers in hand. It was a typical students' night. The group had gotten together at Tom's house, and planned to stay overnight.
Miles and Y/N have History 1 together, while Betty and Haz had Calculus. But other than that, this was the only classes they all had together. Being in college is no easy feat, proper time management was necessary.
Ned had assigned each member to a specific part of the paper, and they've been at it since 8 pm. They all have to multitask and manage their time. Tom had almost finished his part of the paper, so he tried to do his Lit homework now.
Tom heard footsteps stomping on the floors. He turned and saw Y/N marching up to him with an annoyed look on her face and was about to speak but he cut her off.
"If you complain about the heat one more time, I'm give you a real reason to sweat," Tom set the cup of water with a smug look on his face.
She halted on her tracks and smacked the paper she brought on his arms. Tom chuckled, but didn't move.
"No, you idiot," Y/N rolled her eyes. "You might wanna fix that paper before you go off scaring people to death with that annoying face of yours."
His mouth twitched in amusement and took the stapled papers from her hands. "So you admit you've been looking at my face."
"You're so full of it," Y/N stepped around him and grabbed another glass, getting water from the tap.
Tom looked at the incorrect charts and tables he had made on the paper. He cursed under his breath. He had been working on it in the wee hours of last night. Spontaneous typing, no pit stops on spelling errors and everything else, just got it done.
"The original file is on my computer upstairs," he groaned. "I'll have to re-do this again."
"You do that," she clicked her tongue. "And I'll just chill here by your fridge for a moment."
Y/N opened the fridge and took the remaining slice of cake laid on a plate.
"That's mine -" Tom protested.
"Not anymore." Y/N ate the cake.
He scowled and moved to close the door of the fridge. Y/N leaned her back on the door. There they were, a few inches away from each other. Tom stood seething; Y/N chewed the cake with an amused expression. She wiped the frosting on her lower lip with her tongue reflexively. Before he realized it his eyes wandered to her lips.
Tom inched his face closer, eyes darting over to her eyes and lips. "If you don't stop biting your lips ..."
"What are you gonna do?"
Tom remained quiet but clenched his jaw.
Y/N chuckled, "You're all talk and no action."
Heavy footsteps echoed on the hallway to the kitchen, gaining both their attention away from each other. Tom whipped his head to the of the voice and shot him a look.
"I told you 7000 times, a chicken is a bird -" Haz bursted into the room with a phone clutched to his ears, pausing when he caught sight of Tom and Y/N. "D'you have a charger I could borrow?" Haz covered his phone with his hands.
"I have one in my backpack." Y/N said.
Haz nodded, talking again to his sister on the phone about chickens. He walked back to the living room, waiting for Y/N to follow him.
Y/N stopped by the table where Tom had been working on, and pointed at his paper. "I can't finish my part if you can't finish yours." Seeing as his paper's original file was on his computer upstairs, she grabbed his laptop without waiting for him to reply. "Imma borrow this ... Thanks."
She went back to the living room, laptop on hand.
"And don't look at my browser history!" She heard Tom call back from the kitchen.
"Wouldn't dare," she countered in a mocking tone.
As the weeks passed, they started collecting data on the field. They went through one institution to another, gathering reports and statistics, and validating it with professionals. Then after that it was all a blur. They submitted the paper to Mrs. Luxley and was graded, only given back to them for minor revisions.
The gang decided to spend that same night they passed the assignment on Tom's house again, just like they did when they were still making the paper. Tom's parents had gotten used to them staying over, and Sam always tried to flirt with Betty when he was around.
Ned and Haz raced to Tom's bedroom. Ned threw himself on the bed first. "God, I've never felt the bed being this good," he sighed and melted with pleasure. All those sleepless nights they've had finally paid off.
Haz hit him with a pillow. "Move over!"
Y/N laid on the couch, feet perched on top of Tom's lap, getting comfortable. Betty and Miles slept on the carpets of Tom's living room. They just sort of crawled to the floor in delight and just stayed there, too tired to move anywhere else. Haz came back to the living room, holding a bottle of champagne on his hands from the Hollands' cupboards.
He cheered. "Let's celebrate!"
But they celebrated the victory by sleeping out for an entire day spread all over the Hollands' house.
Even though their project was finished, the lot still remained close with each other. They spent times at Miles' favourite diner by the corner of the campus during their collective free time.
And last week, Haz's sister gave birth to a pretty baby girl. Haz invited them over and they all came to join the little house party his sister threw. The group counted on this as the official celebration of their hard work.
It was a Thursday afternoon. Family and friends chatted and caught up with each other in the Osterfield's backyard. Dream by Fleetwood Mac could be heard playing on the living room speakers.
Tom was talking with his dad. Betty and Ned sat at the garden chairs talking to one of Haz's brothers. Those two really were people persons. Miles and Y/N laughed at a hilarious history joke their professor rambled about. Tom tried to pay them no mind, though his glance drifted to them every now and then. His dad eventually noticed the shift in his mood, but decided to ignore it because his mum came to them, carrying Haz's niece. Tom accepted the baby to his arms while his mum and dad went to the kitchen.
Lily, the smol bean's eyes crinkled with joy and giggled. Her chubby little hands reached out to him. Tom stuck his tongue out affectionately her. He turned his head to the low whistle he heard.
"Wow... Daddy," Y/N smirked.
That day was all fun and games, but by the end it they still had school stuff to catch up on. A few weeks later, they decided to cram in the library.
Nothing feels better than suffering with acads together friends.
The group sat in a table by the corner, immersed in their own world. Tom went to the bookshelves to look for an autobiography book his proffesor suggested. Ned was compiling essays on his laptop. Miles was reading a book by Neil Gaiman. Haz and Betty were doing their Calculus homework.
Y/N's chin rested on her hands, staring blankly at her laptop screen. A straight line blinked repeatedly on the ends of the only sentence she typed.
What the fuck |
She just needed a head start on this critique paper. Nothing too heavy, just one paragraph to kick it all into place. That's where it's always hard. The first line. So now she's stuck with cursing. Before Y/N realize it, she's slumped her face down to the wooden table with a light bang. The group lifted their eyes to her, asking if she was alright. She shoved her thumbs up above her head, and they went back to what they what they were doing.
Haz who sat on her right, patted her back. "Same here, sis," he fought back a yawn.
Her eyes felt heavy. Then she groggily looked up to the little 'thunk' dropped on the table.
"Oh, great you're alive," she muttered before setting her face back on the table again.
Tom pulled his chair beside her. "Miss me already? I was barely gone for a few minutes."
"I'm so blessed to be with your presence," she stated in a monotonous voice.
Tom snorted. "Your professor is really gonna give you an A+ with those colorful words. 'What the fuck,' short but sweet."
She looked up and stuck her tongue out. Seeing his face has started to get old ... she tried convincing herself that, though.
They did their business. Ever so often, Y/N and Tom's elbows would brush against each other. Y/N had her earphones on, listening to her shuffled playlist on Spotify. Tom heard muffled tunes, and turned his head closer.
"What are you listening to?" He whispered; his breath fanned the side of her neck that sent chills up her spine.
She didn't look at him and instead continued to write key points to make on her essay. She spoke, her voice low. "This one's called Uncomfortable by Wallows."
He grinned and leaned even closer. "Can I listen?"
From across the table, Ned took 10 bucks from his wallet and shoved it on Betty’s hand. She pumped her fist in a silent triumph.
Y/N shifted her head to look at him, only to find his cute, devilishly handsome face inches away from hers. If she would tilt her head a little... their lips would touch. They locked eyes for a second, before she plucked one earphone and gave it to him.
He cocked his head, liking the song. Minutes passed. The only noises were from turning book pages, soft patter of keys on the laptops, and bits of hushed voices encompassed the area.
An hour later, Y/N felt herself getting hungry and went out to buy food, Betty tagging along. They ate outside since the library was strict on the 'NO eating policy.' Not even other drinks are allowed, only water. The others stayed behind. Then Betty came back to her seat.
"Where's Y/N?"
Betty sat on her chair, "She's outside, still eating."
Tom nodded and felt himself getting hungry, too. He opened his backpack and took a bag of Cheetos he stashed. He stood and said to them he was gonna eat outside. He went out, and spotted her leaning on a pillar, scooping ice cream out of a cup.
"I'm starving," he stood beside her.
"We've been there for ages," she scooped another spoonful of mint chocolate ice cream she got from the shop across the street.
Tom munched on his Cheetos. He turned to look at her happily savoring her ice cream. He moved for Y/N's ice cream cup but she swerved it out of his reach.
"Get your own," she swatted his arms away.
A thought crossed his mind. It reminded him of the last time they did this at his kitchen, over a slice of cake. And how they've been so close...
For the past few months, he's gotten a strange feeling whenever Y/N was around. Like there's an electric buzz in him, his heart would warm up at the sight of her. He couldn't stay away from her, and he wants to know her better, and feel her and just be there right beside her. He couldn't explain it.
Tom grinned at the memory, chucking a piece of Cheetos on his mouth. He stepped forward. "D'you wanna know how Cheetos and mint chocolate chip ice cream tastes like together?" he leaned closer to her face; his breath hot against her skin. His gaze shifted down to her parted lips. "You know, for research purposes..."
"Hmm?" She held her eyes up on his own gleaming brown ones. "Probably good. Anything's good with mint chocolate ice cream."
"Yeah?" His hands reached out to move the strands of her hair away from her face. "Wanna test it out?"
She shrugged.
Tom found his hand on the back of her neck and slammed his lips to hers. Y/N's eyes fluttered shut. He tasted full of that cheesy goodness. And her, a heavenly taste of vanilla and the aroma of mint. Her arm stretched out to keep the ice cream cup away. She parted from his lips to set the cup down onto the pillar. He wrapped his arms to her waist, pulling her flush against him. With her now empty hands, she ran her fingers on his soft brown curls. She tugged at the strands, eliciting a low guttural sound from him muffled by her mouth on his.
He broke the kiss and leaned his forehead on hers, breathless. "We should get back inside to do ... stuff."
"No no. Don't care." She pulled the back of his neck and closed their distance again. He chuckled.
Y/N loved the way their mouths danced to a rhythm, flavors mixing together from the forgotten taste-testing session, now a different kind of session.
A hand still on her waist, the other cupped her cheeks and tilted her chin to give him more access. She wrapped both her arms around his neck, welcoming warm the feelings burning inside her.
They parted, but still inches away from each other. Y/N bit his lower lip. Tom hissed in surprise but she kissed it better.
"So ... what do you think?" He murmured in a low voice.
"Mmm, I like it." Cheetos and ice cream forgotten.
"Yeah?" He grinned at her. "Me too."
Seconds lapsed. Neither of them moved, still stuck in a more romantic version of a staring contest.
"I like you." Tom's heartbeat raced.
She grinned back at him. "I like you, too. Like 3000. I like you that much."
-
Roll the end credits.

Is there anything you would do differently in college? Anything you wish you new earlier or things you wish you did but didn’t?
3 things I screwed up and would have done differently in college:
I would have shadowed someone in my target career (in my case, a doctor) way before I was on the verge of graduation so I’d have discovered earlier that medicine wasn’t what I wanted to do. This would’ve given me time to change majors. As a transfer student, I had half the time as other students to catch up on acquiring research opportunities and internships so I laser focused on those two factors instead of seeking practical exposure to the actual day-to-day life of a doctor. When I completed shadowing, I realized I disliked the actual delivery of medical care. Key lesson: Make sure your abstract vision of your post-graduate career aligns with the reality of it– gather data.
I would have attended more office hours and closely engaged my professors. As a science major, I didn’t see the value of professors outside of lectures and grades. It was: syllabus, midterm, final, and on to the next class. I kept in touch with only 2-3 of 30 professors from undergrad which I now consider a loss, but I fixed that in graduate school where I kept in touch with nearly all of the professors who have helped with job opportunities, letters of recommendation for additional degrees, character references, and overall insightful meetups and conversations years after graduation. Key lesson: Leverage the knowledge and network your professors have, they’re decades ahead of you in experience and expertise.
I would have been single at the start of college. Long story short, I very briefly tried to maintain a long-distance relationship while cramming classes and trying to ace them in my pursuit of getting into medical school. This made me a sub-par boyfriend and a sub-par student because I couldn’t dedicate enough my time and energy into doing either one particularly well. The relationship made me stressed about harming my grades but the pursuit of grades made me stressed about neglecting my relationship. She and I ended the relationship a few months into the semester but the stress that negatively impacted grades and my social life was something I wish I could redo. There’s no right or wrong answer to this, many people can maintain a long-distance relationship successfully in college and would gladly choose that route, but I would have been happier if I hadn’t done that. Key lesson: Evaluate your relationships as you adjust to a new environment and transition into a critical phase of your life.
3 things I did well and would totally do again in college:
Socialized, a lot, especially with people outside of my major. It’s easy to make friends with people in the same major because of shared classes, but the most valuable insights I got were from people in other majors pursuing other career tracks: law, business, engineering, performing arts, academia, etc. because it tipped me off to more career options I hadn’t been open to. I didn’t just stick to the pre-med students. It’s how I eventually realized I wanted to pursue business over medicine. When it came time to switch, I had a huge network of classmates who had already walked that path and who could help guide me. I made friendships that I’ll treasure for a lifetime. Key lesson: Get out of your dorm room and befriend people outside of your major, they will provide valuable perspectives and opportunities, they are your future network.
Followed the money AKA chose my head over my heart. I had a choice between two universities: 1) my dream university at full price (no financial aid) or 2) my not-dream but still incredible university at full tuition (100% financial aid). I chose the latter, got a great education, and graduated from a top university with $0 student debt which gave me the flexibility to pursue another career track when I changed my mind. If I had eaten the $100,000 in undergraduate loans from my dream university, I would have felt pressured to continue on to medical school because of the high salary to pay back that debt. Financial stress limits choices. I eventually attended my dream university later for graduate school anyway but it wouldn’t have made a difference in my career if I hadn’t. Key lesson: M.I.A.M.I. = money is a major issue, never make financial decisions using emotions and take student debt seriously.
Trusted my gut and resisted pressure from my parents. Here’s a formula for you: Asian parents with a strong desire to have their child become a doctor + my multiple medical school acceptances including one from an Ivy League university = insane pressure from family to pursue that path. External pressure clouds judgment because it imposes other people’s opinions and voices above your own. In the end, I trusted my gut when it clearly told me that medicine wasn’t the right choice. I pivoted to business, became very successful in my career, and now I’m a Strategy Lead for a trillion dollar big tech company living my best life. Key lesson: You have to live with the consequences of your choices after your parents pass away so choose what’s best for your long-term happiness and trust yourself.

Miraculous: Tales of Another Life (Rough)
This is just a rough draft. I haven’t edited it, some characters may seen OOC (some are that way on purpose) and I may contradict parts of the story later on. Feedback is welcomed.
Summary: Google claims that Osteosarcoma is the third most common type of cancer founding youths. How would Marinette’s life change if at a young age she was diagnosed with cancer, eventually losing her limbs?
Next
Origins Day 1 Part 1
“Marinette!” Sabine Cheng called out. “Your alarms been going off  for 15 minutes. You’re going to be late on your first day back at school.
“Got it mom.” Marinette called back, still half asleep. She was surprise to see the only notification on her phone was for missed alarms. She was expecting a million texts by now.
Stretching, Marinette wiggled out from under her covers, scooting down to the end of her bed. She leaned down, grabbing her rose gold coloured bionic arm from it’s resting place and slipped it into position on her left arm. Happy with it’s position she flexed the robotic fingers out before bring them into a fist to make sure the arm was responding properly.
Marinette repositioned herself so she lined up with the slide that met her bed before pushing herself down, ascending from her loft to the main part of her room. She picked up her elbow crutches before making her way to the vanity. She went through her morning routine, cleaning her face, putting on the small amount of makeup she did, and putting her hair up into pigtails. From there she moved to closet, puling out the outfit she’d pick the day before, tossing it onto the chaise. She replaced her light grey sleeping shirt with the white top with a flora pattern along the top left of it. She slipped on the dark grey jacket she decided to wear with it, the sleeves already rolled up so they fell just above her elbows.
Marinette then sat down on her chaise, leaning her crutches against the wall. She grabbed her leg liner, slipping it over her left leg before grabbing the pink jeans that would bring her outfit together. She reached out, grabbing her prosthetic leg and slipping the left pant leg over it, the black socks and pink flats already on her prosthetic foot. Once everything was on right, she bent the prosthetic knee until it match positions with her flesh knee. She slipped her left leg into the prosthetic socket before placing her right leg in the right pant leg. Slipping the jeans up to her knees she stood up and pulled them the rest of the way up. She carefully stepped back and forth to make sure her leg was properly adjusted and working before grabbing her school bag and phone and heading over to her trap door.
Marinette made her way down the stairs, having learned over the years, and a few poorer quality prosthetics, that rushing would only result in her tripping and potentially falling down the stairs.  She gave her mom, who was in the kitchen a kiss on the cheek before going over to the barstool,  using her right hand to press against the seat to lift herself up onto the chair. She started pouring milk into the bowl her mom had set out for her before grabbing the cereal and adding it.
“Excited for your first day?” Sabine asked her daughter.
“You mean for another year of disappointment?” Marinette asked.
“Who knows Marinette, maybe this year will be your guys’ lucky year. It’s bound to happen eventually. That man can’t keep him locked up forever.” Sabine said.
“Me? Lucky?” Marinette asked. As if proving her point as she places the cereal box down, an orange fell from the fruit bowl, rolling down a baguette that had been leaning against said bowl, over the knife half in the butter, flipping the spoon out of the sugar cube bowl causing some to toss out, before someone to an end knocking over the carton of milk and yogurt cup. And then just to spite Marinette, another orange knocked over the cereal bowl.
“Uoh.” Marinette groaned. That was just like her luck.
Sabine came over to mop up the milk that had spilt on the floor while Marinette cleaned up the cereal. Sabine let out a little chuckle, rubbing a hand against her daughters cheek to try and cheer her up a bit. After all, if she got all her bad luck out of the way while she was home then she had a better chance of having good luck at school. Marinette smiled at her mom before tucking in to her breakfast, she had school after all.
Marinette made her way down to the bakery to hear her dad ‘la la-ing’ along to a song only in his head. Her turned around having heard her enter to show her the box of macaroons he had made for her to bring for her class.
“Dad, these are so awesome!” Marinette exclaimed. They looked so good she couldn’t wait until she could share them with her new classmates, if they had any this year. Collège Françoise Dupont seemed to like to keep students together since there hadn’t been a new classmate in almost three years.
“Glad you like them.” Tom Dupain said, closing the lid.
“Thank you dad,” Marinette said, carefully taking the box from her dad. “My class will love them. You’re the best.”
“We’re the best, thanks to your amazing designs.” Tom said picking up his daughters sketch book which was open to the bakeries new logo that Marinette had designed.
Marinette smiled happily at her dad before flinging her arms around him to pull him into a hug, forgetting that she had the dessert box in her hands. The box went sailing towards the floor.
Tom let out a little laugh as her caught them with him foot, tossing them back up in the air before catching them.
“Thanks,” Marinette said, before grabbing her backpack from her mom, who was checking to make sure she had everything, giving her mom a quick kiss on the cheek before doing the same with her dad as she took the dessert box back. “See you tonight.” She said as she headed out the door.
Marinette tried to rush to make the light but it turned just as she made it to the cross walk. She sighed, realizing she was probably going to be late now. She really needed to get an alarm that could actually get her up on time, since by now it was obvious that she wasn’t just going to be able to go to bed earlier, not when inspiration always hit her at night.
She glanced up and almost screamed in alarm. An elderly man was in the middle of crossing, back heavily arched as he leaned on his cane for support, moving slowly. Marinette glanced around to see if anyone else had noticed the man, panicking when she saw a car speed towards him. Not knowing what else to do and not want to see him hit, she rushed out into the road, grabbing his arm and pulling him towards the sidewalk. Her flesh foot caught against the sidewalks curb and she fell to the ground just as the car zoomed past.
“Thank you miss,” the elderly man said. “Oh, what a disaster.”
Marinette groaned, picking herself up off the ground, to see that the dessert box had landed on the ground next to her, half the macaroons were now either on the ground or broken. Oh well, at least they made it out of the house in one piece.
Marinette made a noise of disappointment as the people around them walk past as if nothing had happened, some even stepping the macaroons that had fallen out. “Oh don’t worry.” Marinette assured the stranger. “I’m no stranger to disasters, besides, there’s still a few left.” She held out the box for him to grab one.
“Mmm, delicious!” The man said after having taken a bite.
A bell rang out from the school.
“Oh no, I’m going to be late.” She bowed politely to the man. “Have a nice day sir.”
She started rushing to the school hoping that it was only to first bell to tell everyone to head to class and not the second one that would mean she was late. As she made her way to the front door, she breathed a sigh of relief when she saw kids still making their way into the building.
“There you are Dupain-Cheng.” A voice called out from behind her.
Oh, maybe she had breathed that sigh of relief too soon.
“Chloe!” She turned around to see her friend standing there, arms crossed.
“You’re so lucky you’re not late.” Chloe said taking the box from her friend and opening it to grab a cookie. “Had a little cookie accident?”
“Drop them when I pulled an old man out of the way from being hit by a car.” Marinette explained as her friend took a bite out of one of the cookies. “I’’m just glad I got there in time and that some of the cookies lived.”
Chloe shook her head. “Ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous. You’d think someone without prosthetics would help out instead of letting the disabled kid save the old man, not that you’re not perfectly capable.”
Marinette hummed. She and Chloe made their way into the school, towards Mrs. Bustier class since there wouldn’t be enough time for her to stop by her locker now.
“Any sign of him?” Marinette asked.
“No, but I’m sure he’ll be here any moment.” Chloe said, her nose high in the air.
“Chlo, I know you don’t want to hear it but you know how his dad is, there’s a good chance he’s not coming.” Marinette said gently, not wanting her friend to be devastated later on like in previous years.
“I know, but this was the first time we’ve been able to actually enrol him. His dad doesn’t need to know until it’s too late.” Chloe countered.
Sabrina ran up to them excitedly as they neared the classroom. “Chloe, Marinette.” She greeted. “Word has it, we have a new kid in class.”
Chloe looked over at Marinette smugly. Looks like he had made it after all.
The three walked in class as the second bell rang, not technically late. Mrs. Bustier was calling for Nino, a student they’d shared class with since the third grade, to move to the front row. Marinette handed Sabrina one of the macaroons as they headed to their tables. Marinette set her back on the table in the front row by the window only to find a girl already sitting there.
“You’re not Adrien.” Chloe said, as Sabrina placed both their stuff on the table behind Marinettes. “And you’re in Marinette’s spot.”
“It’s fine Chloe,” Marinette said quietly, feeling disappointed that the blond model wasn’t the so called new student Sabrina had heard about. “I can share.”
“And what about when Adrien gets here, are you just going to abandon him?” Chloe demanded.
“Chlo, you know I wouldn’t do that and I don’t mean that.” Marinette said. “But it’s fine for now. If Adrien shows up then we can figure it out from there, but she’s not doing any harm.”
Chloe huffed but she went and sat in her seat without any more complaints.
“Alright, has everyone found a seat?” Mrs. Bustier asked from the front.
Marinette turned to her new seat mate handing her a macaroon. “I’m Marinette. Sorry about Chloe, our friend was suppose to start school today but his father, like in past years, probably stopped him. She’s taking it a bit hard, usually she’s not that bad.”
“Alya, and I guess I can understand why she was upset.” The new kid said. She looked down at Marinette’s outreached hand to take the cook and noticed her prosthetic arm. “Oh wicked, just like Bionica, though she’s half robot.”
Marinette smiled, used to getting reactions like this from people her age. She didn’t allow it to bug her, at least it wasn’t coming from an adult, who in her experience were a lot more insensitive. At least this Alya girl thought her arm was cool.
“You a superhero fan?” she asked.
“More like a super fan.” Alya said. She reached in her bag and pulled out phone, her screen saver being the latest comic Majestia cover. “My favourite is by far Majestia. She says ‘all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good people do nothing’. Words to live by, right?”
“Yeah,” Marinette said with a smile. “If you want help getting around school, I can show you around after class since I’m class deputy.”
Alya returned her smile. “That’d be great. Kind of new to Paris, not just this school so knowing my way around somewhere would be great.”
Marinette grinned before turning back to the front as Mrs. Busier called them to attention.

Theatre was the bright bubble in Lily Spencer’s stressful world,  a place the inner life of the human soul comes to dance, sing and exclaim of all that really matters. High school was not an easy stage in life, at least for people like Lily, who are kicked to the side as outcasts who don’t fit in with the social norm. Maybe it was her weird love for video games, or her impeccable skill of spilling word vomit and ultimately embarrassing herself; either way, Lily made peace with being an outcast, no matter what the reason for her exclusion was.
There were people like Lily; cast aside, viewed as peculiar and “uncool.” And then there were people like Jade; popular, loved, adored by all. Jade was out of her league, of course; when you’re a hyperactive nerd crushing on a lead actor that is - defying all laws of physics and the universe - also the captain of a varsity team and the president of several clubs with outstanding grades, you realize your chances are quite slim.
She did like girls, though, so Lily never truly surrendered her dream of snatching a gorgeous, rare specimen like her.
“Spencer! Were you paying attention?” Mr. Castellanos, the school’s economics teacher, snapped impatiently at the daydreaming girl sitting at the back of her class. She had paced her cheek on her fist and was gazing dreamily at the wall behind him, igniting a spark of exasperation for what seemed like the thousandth time since he had begun teaching her.
She jumped in her seat at the abrupt yell, earning snickers from her classmates. Jax Matsuo, a fellow outcast (although he was definitely loved by the female population more than his peers, considering he was quite handsome and gave off “bad boy” vibes) nudged her playfully from behind and whispered, “Oooooh, busted.”
“Uh - I - Of course I was!” Lily lied straight through her teeth while looking the teacher straight in his angered eyes. Her heart could run whole marathons at the rate it had been beating, and her hands began to sweat. At that point, all pairs of eyes present in the room had been on her, including her raging crush.
“Oh? Then tell me what the financial gain made in transactions is.”
She gulped nervously. Shit, crap, damn it all to every hell, she swore profusely in her mind. Mr. Castellanos raised his eyebrows at her expectantly. Out of the corner of her slightly widened eyes, she spotted - to her shock - Jade waving to grab her attention. Once they locked eyes, her heart skipped a beat and a fuzzy feeling warmed her stomach. Shut up, stomach, now isn’t the time, hissed Lily mentally. Jade gestured to her lips, and mouthed clearly: PROFIT.
Lily immediately made eye contact with the economics teacher once again and blurted out the answer that her classmate gave her so quickly and panickedly that it made him slightly suspicious. He narrowed his eyes at her, but nonetheless congratulated her for answering correctly.
“Good to know you’re not completely useless in my class, Spencer. Don’t let me catch you like this again.”
Lily let out a long breath in relief and a grin resembling that of a maniac stretched across her lips. With reddened cheeks and pinkish ears, she mouthed a thank you to Jade, who returned it with the warmest smile she had ever been given.
You had better believe that particular moment was the only thing Lily thought of until the end of the school day. On her way to lunch, through Eng. Lit., during her mathematics class - the single topic on her mind was Jade. She couldn’t believe how childish she had been acting and felt as though she was back in elementary school with the biggest schoolgirl crush.
Eventually, rehearsal rolled around. All the theatre kids gathered in the theatre, discussing their plans for upcoming rehearsals before the big day. The play they were preparing for was, to Lily’s delight, Shrek: The Musical. She remembered laughing like a madwoman with the Costume and Makeup crew, who adored the idea of making the most pompous boy in their school look like a large, green ogre. It was beautiful, really.
Lily positioned herself next to the tech crew’s equipment as Jade, who played the eldest version of Fiona (she had been glad they didn’t rob her of the part for not being light-skinned), readied herself to begin singing one of Lily’s favourite parts of the musical - I Know It’s Today.
She watched as the child and teenage Fiona sang their parts beautifully and adjusted the lighting accordingly. The youngest had quite the magnificent voice, Lily knew she would go far in life. She could barely prepare herself when she realized Jade’s verse was approaching, knowing she would be just as affected by it as she always was.
“Here come the waterworks,” whispered the person in charge of the music, Nicole, jokingly. Lily poked her in the ribs with a childish huff.
Jade finally appeared, wearing a long ginger wig and a green dress that fit her like a glove. Her powerful, melodious voice rang throughout the theatre loudly and clearly, striking a chord within every occupant of the room - even their jaded and strict director, Kamilah Sayeed. Lily’s eyes glazed over with a glossy coat of tears threatening to spill over her cheeks. Her voice was beauty, music, grace. It was the promise of tomorrow, and Lily never wanted it to end.
“Lil, are you crying?” chuckled Nicole quietly, careful not to disrupt the rehearsal.
“No, I just have a tree in my eye.” Her voice quivered when she answered, and when she saw Nicole eyeing her with a single quirked eyebrow and a smirk, she huffed out again. “Both eyes.”
The blonde next to her shook her head with a knowing smile, but Lily completely ignored her and centred her focus on the singing beauty on the marvellously decorated stage.
Once rehearsal was over, Lily waited at the bus stop nearest her school to finally go home and unwind from such a long and tiring day. She stared at the blue sky above, adorned with pure clouds and the occasional soaring bird. She sensed someone take a seat next to her, but took no notice of them.
“Wow, no thank you, Jade, for the heroic save during Econ?”
A shriek unwillingly barreled out of her lips as she jumped yet again in her seat, startled by the sudden appearance of Jade. She sat next to her, the uncoolest person in the world, of all people? Eyes wide and cheeks flushed, Lily avoided Jade’s gaze and stammered the worst apology in the universe, earning a hearty laugh from the latter.
“Relax, Lils, I was just joking!” Her pearly whites almost blinded her when she showcased her megawatt smile. Lily squeaked pathetically at the sound of that nickname, unaware that Jade even knew her name. “You do a great job with the tech crew, by the way. You’re a pretty cool gal.”
“I… Pretty… Gal? Cool?” The gay panic is too much for me to handle, cried the mortified teenager in her anxious mind.
She chuckled nervously. I’m in danger.
“I’m sorry we never got the chance to hang out before, I usually try to get to know everyone in the club. How about I make it up to you?” Her gaze was soft and friendly, making her feel weak in the knees despite being seated. Her stomach did somersaults.
“You - I - Yeah. Cool. Cool. SURE!” She cringed at the way her voice cracked when she all but screamed the last word.
Jade smiled warmly. “You don’t have to be nervous around me, you know!”
“Easier said than done,” muttered Lily, but it was loud enough for her companion to catch it.
“Come on, there’s an ice cream parlour just down the road! Ditch the bus, I’ll give you a ride home when we’re done.” Jade grabbed her hand firmly and yanked her onto her feet, excitedly dashing down the asphalt with a very confused but very ecstatic Lily Spencer attempting to catch up without tripping over her own two feet. A grin crept and the air grew thick with a tenderness that couldn’t help but make her breathe faster, happier.
Maybe Jade wasn’t as unreachable as the glittering stars in a night sky like she thought she was.

How Lovely Would it be For This Moment to Last Forever (F!Byleth x Edelgard)
Rating: Teen and Up Audiences Archive Warning: Major Character Death Category: F/F Relationship: F!Byleth x Edelgard Summary:  "How lovely would it be for this moment to last forever?" Edelgard has said this phrase twice in her life. Both times they were to her professor, Byleth. What significance could this saying have on their life?
Tumblr media
A/N: Got too excited about the game and how you could date Edelgard as the female Byleth, so I ended up writing this yesterday. Some things may be inaccurate since I haven’t played the game obviously and it hasn’t dropped yet. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do writing it!
--
After the last class was over, many students from all three houses scrambled out of the room. The Black Eagles were not immune to its effect either. Their chatters, their laughter, and their stature brightened. They can finally leave! Then again, not only was it a Friday, but today’s lessons felt as if it dragged on forever.
A lengthy lecture on advanced tactical commands and the importance of teamwork were more than enough to drone anyone to sleep despite Byleth’s best effort. It was a dry topic. Extremely dry. Even Byleth herself wouldn’t want to teach it to her students! She had paused several times during the lesson to stifle a yawn! Alas, she and the other professors had built the core curriculum. She could not avoid her responsibilities.
At least the hard part is over. Now all that was left is to tidy up the shared classroom, gather the worksheets that she ordered the students to leave on the teacher’s desk, and trudge back to her office. From there, Byleth would be able to grade some of their assignments and prepare herself for an eventual staff meeting on tomorrow’s practical exercise on the field with the other professors. That doesn’t even include any students hanging behind that might need elaboration on any concept they have or haven’t learned… or any professors and staffs that need assistance. Not to mention Byleth needs to find a gift for Edelgard since it is her birthday today…
A bead of sweat ran down the side of her face as her shoulders slumped. There was so much to do. Last time she checked, being a mercenary was supposed to be harder than a professor! She was so used to being part of a group and following her father’s orders. Now she has a bunch of children and young adults to guide and pass her knowledge. Had it not been a special power that she possessed, Byleth wouldn’t have had her application as a potential instructor rejected. She would outright be banned from nearing the institution!
Byleth snagged one of the two erasers and proceeded to remove the chalky text on the blackboard. If there was anything that she got out of this experience, it was the fact that she was able to meet with new people.
“How lovely would it be for this moment to last forever.”
The eraser pressing against the blackboard paused mid-sentence. Byleth glanced over her shoulders. Edelgard had a textbook and notebook in one hand, and another hand resting on her hip. One of the three well-known nobles in the academy, she naturally exerts a sense of royalty far above Byleth. Though dignified and talented, it was rare for the noble to drop ambiguous remarks. The older female returned her attention to tidying as she questioned,
“Is there something troubling you, Edelgard?”
Edelgard’s eyes lowered, her breath caught in her throat. There was a pregnant pause. Eventually, she faintly smiled and approached the blue-haired.
“Just thinking about the future, professor.” The student rested her supplies on the desk’s surface. Using both palms of her hands, she somewhat sat on the edge of the wooden furniture as she observed her instructor. “We live in a time of peace. Dimitri, Claude, and I are training to become future leaders for our nation, but we are still young and inexperienced.”
“Inexperienced? Don’t downgrade your skills,” Byleth chuckled. “You’re anything but inexperienced, especially in live combat.”
The white-haired couldn’t resist a grin and brushed stray locks of white hair over her shoulder, her body temperature increased.
“I retract my earlier statement then.”
“Good.”
Although Byleth did not push the conversation further, she was curious about the earlier lamentation from Edelgard. Unlike a certain professor who did not know basic common courtesies in socialization with students, she held her tongue and waited for another response. It paid off as Edelgard’s grin faltered. The young lady redirected her gaze at the older female. She opened her mouth, but nothing delivered. She clamped her jaw shut. Her eyes wandered. Then, Edelgard tried again once her eyes found themselves landing on Byleth again.
“Byleth.” Byleth slowed her motion. It was uncommon for any students to call their professor by their first name. Most students who dared to informally call their professors by their names were playful in nature. For Edelgard, she had only done so when all jokes are off the table. “How long do you think this moment will last?”
“That’s hard to say.”
A single moment can’t last forever for sure unless one had the ability to freeze time. It’s a rather morbid question to ask. No matter the circumstances, there is always a sorrowful answer that accompanies such curiosity. Even Byleth finds it disheartening. A faint hum escaped from the ex-mercenary’s throat. That seems to have perked Edelgard’s ears.
“Edelgard,” Byleth lowered the eraser. She turned around to properly face the noble. As her student pushed herself away from the furniture, the instructor walked up to the shorter female and extended a hand outward. “Would you like to have dinner with me tonight?”
Special treatments were given to certain students. Dorothea and Ferdinand were ones she invites to private tea parties for casual socialization. She too invited Edelgard multiple times for tea. But for dinner? Could it be fashioned the same way as lunch at the cafeteria? The young noble gave a slight tilt of her head.
“Are you joining us for tonight then?”
Byleth shook her head.
“I would like to invite you to have a private dinner with me at my office.”
Private dinner? Now THAT is something Edelgard hasn’t seen before. Wait, could this be something that she’s always fantasized? Her stomach fluttered at the idea. Is this…
“…a date?”
Oh GOD, she had just blurted it out. The short female’s knees felt weak at the horror. The reaction? Her instructor had blinked. The noble could not help but catch the outreached hand stiffen. Edelgard had forced every fiber of her being to keep her facial muscles from showing signs of disappointment.
Perhaps her teacher had thought differently. Maybe she should have dismissed the reply and deny it anything more than a jest. Though they had spent plenty of time together, it would be a blunt lie to say that the young adult is not starting to develop an innocent crush towards Byleth. She tried to shoo it away and think of it as nothing more than a nuisance. It only serves as a nuisance the more she resisted instead.
Every single time a male student tried to flirt with Byleth, it evoked irritation in the normally stoic female. Every single time she found herself complimented by Byleth, her body would become still, pupils dilated, and cheeks flushed. Every single time Byleth would enter the room, her conversation with her classmates would trail off and she would lose complete interest in their interactions. Every single time Byleth asked a personal question, Edelgard’s voice unintentionally cracked if taken off guard. Every single time she was alone with Byleth, she would ask subtle questions about her mentor.
When did she start to develop this complicated emotional attachment towards her professor? It couldn’t have been the first time they’ve met. Byleth may have saved Edelgard’s life from a bandit slicing her apart with an axe, but Byleth, to gently put it, was extremely inexperienced when it came to teaching methods. Edelgard and many of her comrades were unimpressed with their new teacher’s instructions—or rather, lack of one. The first month was a complete nightmare. Had it not been for Byleth’s position as a professor, Edelgard would have used her noble status to boot Byleth back to her old mercenary life!
But over time, Edelgard saw how hard of a worker Byleth truly is. She was the only professor to work overtime for her students. She was the only professor that lent a hand with students from other houses. She was the only professor to take excruciating time to plan and make sure every single student comes out alive from the battlefield. Byleth was the only one who took time out of her life to get to truly know her students, especially Edelgard.
She could never forget the time when she wrongfully blamed Byleth for the emotional anguish she received from the empire. It was one of the weakest moments she had ever shown to the public. The young lady stormed out during a private examination. She never came back to complete it. Byleth had every right to snap back at Edelgard. She had every right to punish Edelgard for her misdemeanor. She had every right to expel Edelgard. Instead, Byleth spent the entire WEEK alleviating the noble of her pain. The examination was rescheduled. They also went fishing, shopping, and had a tea party together. Sure, Byleth neglected the other students, but the instructor’s eyes were only on Edelgard.
“I’m always here for you, Edelgard.”
Byleth is the definition of perfection. Thus, that led to the current inner calamity of falling for her professor. It didn’t help that same-sex relationships were uncommon these days. Should word travel that Edelgard likes women, her empire would turn their backs against her in less than a second! That’s an even more depressing thought! Right now, this is simply a hopeless, one-sided feeling Edelgard suffers silently from.
In spite of the noble's angst, Byleth isn’t that oblivious to her students. Having spent time with them for months, she knows them all too well. Thankfully, her reaction was genuine, though more from shock than from disgust. The green-haired decided to reach out and grab Edelgard’s somewhat-moist hand rather than wait around. This action startled the Adrestian Empire noble.
“B-Byleth?”
A small smirk from the older female. Soon, she leaned down to plant a kiss on the back of Edelgard’s held hand. A fitting scene between a noble and a commoner.
“If you would like to think of this as a date, I don’t mind. I’m sure we have plenty to talk about over dinner. Besides…” Byleth straightened her posture and squeezed Edelgard’s hand. The formal composure the teacher always wore washed away with her contrasting witty attitude. “You’re turning 18 today, am I right?”
“That’s… right…”
If there’s something Edelgard wants to do, it’s to calmly part from her professor for a minute, walk to the nearest cliff, and holler about how stupid she is. How could she have forgotten her birthday?! Her comrades and rivals showered her with small gifts and warm wishes, but they were all over by the early morning. A party had been held at midnight with the Black Eagles to commemorate another year in her life. The students enjoyed fine cake and desserts throughout the night. Once classes were in session the next morning, she automatically had turned off all thoughts about luxury and leisure associated with her personalized holiday. What she had forgotten was whether Byleth had celebrated the special occasion with her or not.
Her face burned up from Byleth remembering the occasion. Though in all honesty, this would buy her some time to plan and give the gift to Edelgard. No shame in delaying the delivery, right? On the other hand, this would also provide additional insight into Edelgard’s feelings towards her. Though Byleth never went out of her way to formulate any romantic feelings towards her colleagues and students, she never really thought too hard about what the students would think of her. Whether Edelgard’s feelings towards her was nothing more than a young adult’s lust or desire to become a significant pair is up for speculations. She had just turned 18, after all. The dinner tonight should clear up any misconceptions they may hold.
“The day is long, Edelgard,” Byleth finally released her hold on the noble. A weary twinkle shone as she circled her index finger in the air. “School may be over, but I still have much to do. Let’s meet at my office tonight, okay?”
Edelgard began to play with her hair as Byleth gathered her belongings, the temperature beneath her cheeks having spiked.
“Okay.”
The plan had been set. Now the two can only wait for tonight—and prayers be sent to Byleth as a glance on the nearby wooden clock alarmed her of an upcoming staff meeting. Smoke trailed right behind her heels as she fumbled out of the classroom and into the hallway. Once the ex-mercenary left the area, Edelgard could not help but cover her mouth and whispered, “She’s so cute” under her breath.
A date. She was actually invited on a date with Byleth! It might just be an excuse to celebrate her birthday, but it’s still a date, right? A private one-on-one dinner with her teacher! What should she wear for the occasion? Her school’s uniform outfit? Or maybe something a bit fancier? There is that red dress she’s always hidden in her closet for an exceptional event. What else should she prepare? Wait—it’s her birthday, so is there really anything for her to prepare? Maybe her usual “thank you” speech she gives to those that wished her well for the new year? No… it has to be special. But she doesn’t have to say or do anything, right? Just show up to Byleth’s office and enjoy each other’s company—Though why the heck did Byleth choose her office?
So many questions swimming around in her head and Edelgard feels as though her skull might crack! From the distant, a small number of her classmates all peered from the hallway and into the classroom. The sight of their upcoming lord clutching her head as though she were frustrated is a sight to behold!
“So, she’s definitely got the hots for the teach, huh,” Ferdinand smirked. “Looks like I got a little competition going on with the professor…”
“Ferdinand! Is that all you got in that thick skull of yours?” Dorothea harshly whispered back. “Just because you’re her rival doesn’t mean you should butt into their budding relationship!”
“Lady Edelgard is… in love with another woman… let alone that of our professor…?” Hubert grasped ahold of his own head, his eyes wide and jaw slacked. “I… don’t know what to say…”
“Aren’t you supposed to be her undying loyal servant to her, Hubert?” Petra raised an eyebrow. “Besides, don’t you think you shouldn’t make it so obvious since it’ll hurt her reputation?”
They mumbled amongst themselves, but they made quick haste from the hallway as soon as Edelgard decided to leave the room. Of course, the upcoming lord’s mind is far too occupied with tonight’s reservation. She’s only got one shot at this and anything short of excellence is a failure to her.
“Let’s hope I make it in time tonight—Wait, the professor didn’t mention what time I should be meeting with her!”
Ugh, maybe she should just head over to the office once the sunsets. If there’s anything she would like to change in Byleth, it’s the fact that Byleth can be disorganized.
Spoiler alert: it was actually Byleth who was late to the untimed dinner date. Not only did she earn a scolding from her superior and father earlier that day in the staff meeting, but she also earned herself an earful from the well-kempt and dressed Edelgard.
-----------------
[ TIME SKIP ]
Ever since they’ve graduated, many things had happened and Byleth had not seen Edelgard since then. Although it was natural for a teacher to miss her student, it was another matter to miss your significant other. From the day they had a private dinner together during the last hours of Edelgard’s birthday, the once-young noble poured out her feelings for the others. It was less elegant and more like torrential rain. Regardless, Byleth had played along in hopes of helping Edelgard sort through her emotions. It might just be youth chewing at their lust and desire for others.
Time told them otherwise, especially for Byleth. Edelgard’s feelings had grown even stronger, and it even sparked something in the instructor. Not that their relationship was that unknown in the first place with the Black Eagles. Hubert did his best to shield the two from the public, but word travels fast in the house. Almost everyone knew about it! The two were in a fleeting, but also scandalous relationship. Pain have accompanied them and that is evident by the countless headbutts they’ve had against one another. It was almost a daily occurrence that they were so different from each other!
That did not mean it wasn’t also filled with passion and good memories sprinkled in between though. They were experts in battle and filled in the gaps for each other. Outside of the academy’s ground, they held hands and treated each other with great respect. Obviously, they were far more discrete on school ground to prevent unnecessary attention. A quick peck on the cheek and flirtatious phrases sweetly whispered into each other’s ears were exchanged. Then, on rare nights, they showered each other in love. Sometimes, they gently embraced each other. Other times, they ravaged like beasts in heat.
Did they regret it? Absolutely not. Byleth had always reminded Edelgard of her bravery in starting their relationship. If the student hadn’t done so, then they wouldn’t be like they are now. They would have never gotten together. Byleth might have been in a relationship, if any, with someone else other than Edelgard. Edelgard would have been left with a bitter feeling of unrequited crush—or unrequited love towards her professor.
But all good things must come to an end. Graduation came and Edelgard had to return to her empire. It was an already pre-determined decision in part with her nation. Their last interaction was at Byleth’s office. They had their last tea together and reminisce the previous years.
“I will return here someday, my teacher,” Edelgard intertwined her fingers with Byleth’s, her eyes longing for more time. “Promise me that you won’t forget me.”
Byleth leaned in to press her lips against Edelgard’s. The ex-mercenary’s eyes twinkled as she murmured, “I promise. I’ll be waiting for you.”
They eventually saw each other. At the age of 25, Edelgard met with her professor once again.
“How lovely would it be for this moment to last forever.”
Those were the same words Edelgard had spoken of back when she was a student. Now, she said them as a true lord.
She guides her people to victory and easily wage skirmishes without blinking an eye. The confident and proud female shines brighter than ever in the face of conflict. Yet she was not as noble as she originally envisioned. Her nation facing off against her old rivals, Dimitri and Claude, in a bloody war painted their once-pure, pristine goals and accomplishments for a better future into a complex mess. Each one of the three wanted nothing more than to uphold their ideologies. Unlike their young selves who would bicker and eventually fall into a compromise, none dare give up their aggressive persuasions. It’s either do or die. One ideology must dominant others.
Those earlier words were tainted with sorrow and irony towards her professor. Dimitri’s spear tip protruded through Byleth’s chest. Countless arrows from Claude’s precise aim riddled Byleth’s back. A fine axe marked with Edelgard’s crest dug itself into Byleth’s side. Their professor, who had once instructed them in the Officer’s Academy, stood between the three warriors. All three of their expressions twisted in pure horror at the sight of their signature weapons skewering, puncturing, and digging into the very person they’ve respected.
She had dropped her sword. Bloodstains sport her dark academic attire. Broken bones are to be expected from the damages she’s received. Her vision became spotty, blackness threatening to overshadow her consciousness. The pain was unbearable. Yet she stood before her three graduated students. Byleth did not fall. She even reached for the axe and tore it off of her own body! The entire battlefield was blanketed with silence, save it for the low rumbling of the distant thunders from the dark cloud overhead.
A shaky exhale. Crimson red trickled from both corners of her lips as she stumbled forward from her wounds. First, Byleth approached the lord from the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus. Dimitri, with his rugged attire and cruel exterior, reverted to his younger self in the presence of his teacher. His mouth dried as he began to gasp for air. The fearsome mentor that stood against all odds had done so once again. He couldn’t even take a step backward once Byleth closed their distance.
“Dimitri, you must remember to stand by your conviction.”
The now-shorter female out of the three extended her hand. Dimitri nearly slapped it away. It reminded him of the very hand that took his eye away. He managed to resist the temptation as the somewhat warm palm rested on his cheek. Byleth gave a weak smile.
“I always knew… you’ve been a good boy.”
Compliments. Ah—When was the last time he had heard of praises? When he brutally slaughtered his enemies in the name of his ideology? Or was it when he tortured war prisoners who refused to betray their nation? Maybe it was that one time he refused to die when he lost his eye?
Tears began to secrete from his exposed lacrimal gland. Dimitri tried to blink them away. More tears sprouted and were shed. He lowered his head, leaving Byleth’s hand hanging, and felt his chest heave. His knees gave way until his hands pressed against the earthly soil. A loud outcry came from him as he clawed at the grasses.
“Teach--! I—I’m so sorry!”
If she had the energy, Byleth would have bopped him on the head for being such a crybaby. Instead, she whispered, “I forgive you.”
Then, the instructor agonizingly shifted her focus onto the lord of the Leicester Alliance. Unlike Dimitri, Claude had taken a couple of steps backward. He shook his head like a terrified child. His leg muscles had tightened, ready to pounce out of the field. Claude didn’t want to do anything with his old mentor. He didn’t want to face Byleth. That didn’t stop Byleth from coming towards him, of course. She had to pause after the second step, the weight of the pinned weapons affecting her speed and balance. The shadows underneath her eyes darkened as she coughed up blood, its metallic substance dripped down onto the moist patch of grasses.
She raised her head and, surprisingly, cracked a forced grin. She may have not been at close proximity to physically touch Claude, but she left it at that. His constant shaking of the head, his lips pursed from holding back a scream or cry, and white-knuckled grip on his bow… The poor lord looked like he could have a mental breakdown if she got any closer.
“Claude, you must remember to be true to yourself.”
“…”
He wasn’t responding much. It was a typical reply from Claude whenever someone hit the mark. Byleth could not help but allow a soft chuckle.
“I’m sure Dimitri… and Edelgard would appreciate your hidden wisdom.”
“…Teach...”
All he could do was call by her title. Just like Dimitri, Byleth was someone dear to him. Even though she taught for the Black Eagles, she had always been by his side when it matters. She was the only one who saw through him. He squeezed his eyes shut and lowered his head. By this time, droplets of rain began to fall upon the land. The soldiers in the background glanced up at the sky as another thunder rumbled. That didn’t stop Byleth from reaching out to the last of the trio.
“Edelgard…”
This one was the toughest for Byleth. She hardly got a step in before her knees gave in. Edelgard caught her teacher just in the nick of time with a single swoop of her arms. The now-taller female gently flipped her professor upright, laying in her grasp. If Byleth could make her usual witty remark right about now, she would tease about how princely the grown woman became. It was replaced with another cough. The blood continued to leak from her mouth as she struggled to speak.
“You must remember… to allow change to happen.”
A pause. Afterward, she croaked.
“Edel… You’ve grown so much.”
Byleth fought to raise her bruised hand up. The light behind her lens dimmed with a morbid comment.
“Where did you go, Edel?”
Edelgard immediately took ahold of the weak hand and pressed it against her own face. She stifled her cries, the floodgates unable to hold back the tears rolling down her cheeks. The lord nestled on the growing cold part of her professor.
“I’m right here, Byleth.”
Her instructor blinked. She lost the ability to search for her alumni. The darkness shrouded her vision, the gods granting her the ability to partially hear and feel in her final moment. Then, the corner of her lips pulled upward.
“You came back.”
Edelgard bit the bottom of her lip. She knew what her teacher would say next. If anything, the best thing she can do is simply mourn. The young woman buried her face into Byleth’s uninjured shoulder and sobbed. As seconds ticked by, the other two lords knew that her time was expiring. Their tears shared the same reason as their old rival’s. Dimitri tore a chunk of grass from the soil as another strangled outcry came from his direction. Claude smacked his knuckles against his own forehead, concealing one eye as he whimpered. Byleth blinked one last time and exhaled.
“I… have always loved you. Please… don’t fight anymore, Edel.”
Whether her students followed through with her advice is up for debate. However, Byleth knew for sure that she accomplished her job as a teacher. If anything, she’s taught them all she could, especially to the very person she loves, Edelgard. In the background, Sothis watched the entire scene unfold. She shook her head and turned her back towards the four warriors.
“You chose not to reverse time, didn’t you, Byleth? I wonder if that’s for the best…”

Good Trouble
It’s hard being the new kid.
It’s hard being the new kid with a twin brother whose nose is always in a book.
It’s hard being the new kid with a big sister who has super-cool superpowers.
It’s hard being the new with parents who are basically the it couple of the superhero world.
It’s hard being the new kid who the direct descendant of the guy who literally saved the universe.
People don’t know what to do with Aidan, and Aidan doesn’t know what to do with them.
There aren’t a lot of younger kids at Xavier’s, because most mutants don’t develop their powers until sometime in early puberty, but there are a few exceptions. A lot of their classmates look...different. In fact, Aidan and Drew stand out because of how not-different they look. Three of their classmates have some kind of scale situation going on, and two have tails. There’s the boy who wouldn’t look out of place in their school back in Boston, except for the bubble gum pink skin, and the girl with the cute little horns sticking out of her blonde pigtails. Everyone is different, unique, special.
Aidan is just...Aidan.
But Drew is also just Drew, so they stick together throughout the school day. It’s good, though, because Drew is incredibly shy; their teacher, Ms. Buxbaum, an empath, has to give him a little artificial courage to coax answers out of him, even though he’s basically the smartest kid in the lower grades. Even smarter than Aidan. Sometimes.
Drew probably doesn’t notice, because more often than not his eyes are glued to the pages of some fantasy novel, but the other kids whisper about them behind their backs. They’re not very sneaky about it, or maybe they just don’t care if Aidan hears them. Which she does. She hears them say that they don’t belong, that they’re only here because of their sister, their parents, their grandfather. That there’s nothing special about them. That they should go to the normie school down the hill.
Aidan grits her teeth and juts her chin out. Like hell she’s going to let anyone else make her feel small. She takes it all on her shoulders, putting herself between the others and her mousy brother. She’ll take the rolled eyes and the annoyed murmurs and the judgmental stares, because he shouldn’t have to. He’s got enough going on in that big brain of his.
But on a windy Tuesday, when the class is lining up for recess, Ms. Buxbaum calls her back for just a minute as the other file out of the building. She compliments Aidan on the book report she gave earlier in the the day, and Aidan glows with pride. She worked on it for hours over the weekend, made sure every detail was perfect. When she presented in front of the class, she could tell the other kids didn’t want to be, but they were impressed. Aidan skips out to the playground, floating on a cloud. Her wide eyes scan the field for her brother. Sometimes they go to a tall tree way in the back that Aidan climbs while Drew sits at the base, reading. Other times they’ll sneak over to the upper school and peek into the windows of the chemistry lab to make funny faces at their annoyed sister. Some days, when the stress of things have just gotten a bit too much, Aidan will take Drew by the hand and lead him back to their dorm room, where she’ll read aloud to him from a random chapter of Harry Potter.
She wonders if he went there without her today, because she can’t find him anywhere. She walks around for a bit, eyes searching the jungle gym, where some kids glare ominously at her. He’s not up there, though, so she moves on, curving around toward the back of the lower school. She doesn’t see him, but rather a circle of their classmates, all different colors and textures and sizes, forming a rough circle, and she knows exactly where her brother is.
As she stomps over, she hears what’s happening before she sees it. “What’re you always reading, huh? Nothing to say? Maybe that’s what your superpower is, Cooper. Silence.”
Aidan elbows her way through the circle of mutant kids, stumbling into a horrific scene. Her brother, kneeling on the ground, staring red-faced at the grass, while Hunter Cline, an enormous fifth-grader with terrifyingly sharp teeth and opalescent green scales, curls over him, sneering. Drew’s book, an Anne McCaffrey borrowed from their father’s collection, is in his taloned hand. He doesn’t look away from Drew’s trembling face when Aidan appears, seething.
Aidan does not have superpowers. She’s not even big. Everyone can tell that Anna is going to be tall, like Pops, but Aidan is tiny and probably always will be. She doesn’t have claws or sharp teeth or strong muscles or anything. But she does have a quivering rage and her mother’s sense of justice. So she balls her hands into fists, takes one step closer to Hunter, and swings her leg up. When her foot connects with his groin, he lets out a pitiful howl, collapsing to his knees. His circle of friends alternately leap back and jump forward, but no one tries to stop her as she cocks her fist back and connects it with the side of his face. She thinks it actually hurts her more than it hurts him, because ow, but she lifts her knee once to smash into his nose. Hunter flops over onto his back, sobbing.
Aidan leans down, her face hovering just above his. “Pick on someone your own grossness.” Then she turns to face her brother, who’s looking at her like she’s the one with literal scales. “Come on.” She extends her hand, and he takes it, but as he stands he scoops the book up from the ground. Shaking, she leads him away, through the circle of astonished jerkwads, toward their dorm room. Once inside, she drops his hand and walks over to the sink just outside their tiny bathroom. In the mirror, she sees her wild eyes and flushed skin.
Oh man. She is in so much trouble.
Drew sits on the bed quietly. Aidan tosses a few handfuls of water over her face, and eventually her heart stops trying to beat out of her chest. She spins around to face him.
“Are you okay?”
His eyes widen. “Me? Aid, you just beat the crap out of that guy!”
“He was being mean to you!”
“What else is new?!”
She lets out a strangled groan. “You can’t—they can’t just get away with it, D. If you let them torment you, they will keep tormenting you.”
“All you did was teach them that my sister has to fight my battles for me.”
She throws her hands up. “Well someone has to, because you’re clearly not fighting them for yourself!”
“I know that!” he snaps. He flops back onto his bed. “Mom and Dad are going to kill you.”
“Maybe if I’m expelled they won’t be able to catch me.” Drew lifts his head, and they share a grin.
Just then, there’s a knock at the door, and the grins slide off of their faces. Aidan takes one, two deep breaths, and then walks over to open it.
It’s their dad. She can’t possibly begin to read all the expressions on his face. He’s clearly just come quickly from whatever class he was teaching, because he’s slightly out of breath and his hair is extra messy. He looks at her for a long time, and Aidan gets more and more uncomfortable, before his eyes move to Drew on the bed. “Are you okay?”
Drew nods.
Their dad looks back at Aidan. “Are you okay?”
She nods too. “Dad, I—”
“Good, because in order for you to be in all the trouble you are in, you need to be okay first. Let’s go.”
Aidan swallows thickly, and sends a sorrowful pout back to her brother. He offers a not-too-convincing smile of encouragement before the door shuts behind her.
She walks side-by-side with her dad, trying to keep up with his hurried stride. He’s not looking at her. Aidan hates disappointing him. When she does, he looks at her like he’s a kicked puppy. It’s the worst feeling, all twisty and hot in her guts. They leave the lower dormitory and head toward the administrative building, when her fate awaits her. As they cross the grounds, he says, “I know why you did it.”
“What?”
Her dad sighs and comes to a stop, turning to face her. “You and I both know that your brother is...he needs help, sometimes. With other people. It can be hard for him, especially in a place where he’s new, especially in a place where he’s different. It’s why we fought for you two to have a dorm together. We knew you could handle it, the separation, but Drew is...softer.” He smiles. “He reminds me a lot of me when I was his age.” He looks away, squinting at the sun. “Look, it’s not fair and it’s not right, that you’ve taken on this role of his...I don’t know. It shouldn’t be your job to make sure he’s safe.” He looks back at her, the disappointment gone from his face. “But you do, and I think that makes you very, very brave.”
Tears spring to her eyes. “I didn’t want to hurt him, Daddy, honest.”
“I know, honey.” He kneels down and pulls her in for a hug. “You’re a very good sister. Maybe a little too much like your mother, but a very good sister nonetheless. And even though you are definitely about to get into a whole lot of trouble, I want you to know that I’m proud of you, and that sometimes, protecting the people we love is worth a whole lot of trouble.”
She nods into his neck, understanding. She doesn’t know what’s waiting for her inside, but she knows that whatever is, it’s worth making sure that no one messes with her twin brother again.
Her dad presses a kiss to her forehead and stands up. “Come on. Time to face the gallows.” He opens up his hand by his side, and she slides her into it. As they continuing walking, he says, “You know, your sister heard about what you did.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.” He tries to hide the grin, but she can see it clearly. “She wants to you to know she’s annoyed that you’ve decided to compete for the family’s biggest badass title.”
Aidan beams from ear to ear as she marches toward her fate.

Can you do number 3 for steter? If it's OK and you're still doing that?
Teacher/Student AU, coming up. Kind of.
I have some issues with the power imbalance of Teacher/Student stories. No judgement for those who like them, I just personal usually don’t.
That of course only made me more curious if I could write one I’d be okay with. And I did. In a way. I hope you enjoy it ^^
__________________________
Peter looked at the speech he had printed out to memorize.
He had practiced it endlessly but right now didn’t really register any words except the name “Mr. Stilinski”.
It had been more than four years since he saw him.
Four years in which he had carried everything with him that the man had taught him.
About integrity.
Determination.
Hard work.
And staying true to yourself.
The memory of meeting his former teacher for the first time was still clear in his mind.
~*~
He had been a junior, at the top in most classes, popular, part of the basketball team, not yet fully out of the closet and kind of crushing on a guy in the year above him.
Mr. Stilinski walked into their classroom and introduced himself as their new art teacher.
Peter immediately was drawn to the visual appearance of the man but he wasn’t shallow enough to swoon over it like somebody else might.
He could already see classmates developing crushes for the guy and he’d have no part in it.
Except, over the course of the lesson Mr. Stilinski of course then showed he was smart, competent, kind but stern, surprisingly funny and witty.
Well, the guy would still have time to proof he had some flaws.
One appeared at the end of class when he announced he’d be offering an additional two hour art class on wednesdays, luckily it wasn’t mandatory.
Why would he think someone wanted to stay two hours longer if they didn’t have to?
In case anybody loved art just that much?
The guy was definitely overvaluing his subject.
On the other hand, loving your job was also kind of adorable.
~*~
A month went by and Peter had to admit he was maybe kind of slightly crushing on the new teacher?
Fantasies had started to make their way into his evening routine.
Fantasies of sharp, brown eyes witnessing him when he pleasured himself.
And hands…hands! Uniquely identifiable hands that made you want to draw them, taunting him, playing with him.
A raspy, teasing voice telling him what to do.
Soft, ridiculously sensual lips showing a mischievous smirk when he caught himself in how embarrassing it was to do what he was doing.
Alright, yeah, he was crushing hard.
And the worst part was, he wasn’t actually doing great in class.
He had chosen art because with their old teacher it had been a very easy A but now he had to actually put work in to keep up.
That wasn’t really something he was into.
Also not something he was used to.
As he saw his grades drop he contemplated what to do.
He rarely had to study for anything, because he rarely decided to try something out he was bad in.
He had never intended to actually study for art class. All the former teacher had expected of them was to draw something mediocre and sometimes take a multiple choice test.
Eventually he decided he had to talk to Mr. Stilinski about what he could do to better his grade. After all Mr. Stilinski was bisexual - which had come out when someone had found his facebook account.
Maybe the guy was open to some kind of arrangement?
Peter would definitely not hate that.
A few days later after school he hurried to catch Mr. Stilinski in his classroom.
The guy was just packing his bag as Peter closed the door behind himself.
The man looked up and Peter saw those attentive eyes focus on him.
“Peter, what can I do for you?”
So many things…
Peter told himself that he needed to come off as confident and changed his posture before responding in a firm tone.
“I hoped we could talk about my grade.”
Mr. Stilinski hmmm-ed and continued packing.
“You are not happy about your B- I assume.”
Peter nodded and went to lean next to his teacher, against the table.
“No, I am not. I want an A. And I intend to get what I want. So what can I do to better my grade? Just tell me, I’ll do anything you want me to.”
Mr. Stilinski straightened his back and rose to his full height, staring down at Peter.
A moment ago Peter had felt in control by choosing to sit this close to the man, now he felt like maybe a bit more distance would have made that assessing stare less intimidating.
“Peter, are you suggesting what I think you are suggesting?”
Come on now, keep your courage up, show him you know what you are about!
He looked up at his teacher through his lashes and managed a cocky grin.
“I am very confident there is something I could do for you to sway my grade.”
Something dark seeped into Mr. Stilinski’s eyes and Peter felt the hairs on his arms and neck rise.
The man leaned down a little so their faces were closer and his voice got deeper and more raspy when he spoke again.
“And what do you have in mind? Tell me.”
His throat felt dry, he knew a lot of things he wanted to do to the man.
He swallowed and looked at those lips, so close to his.
Confidence, Peter!
“I could suck you off.”
Dear god, he really want to do that.
Mr. Stilinski pressed his lips together and tilted his head.
“I really hoped I was reading your signals wrong Peter. Has any other teacher given you the impression you could better your grade by giving them sexual favors?”
Shit.
Mr. Stilinski’s whole demeanor had changed.
He sounded concerned and kind, absolutely not like he might agree to Peter’s proposition.
“I…no…I never…I never needed to…”
The teacher stared at Peter a bit more.
It was getting really unnerving.
“Okay, that’s good. Then nobody needs to know about this conversation.
If you really want a better grade you could always just come to my voluntary class on wednesday afternoon. The group is a lot smaller so I could give you some more in depth tutoring.
You aren’t untalented, you just clearly don’t put any effort into this class. And I know art is an easy A in many schools but I take this serious. So you can decide if you want to ride the effortless B- or take my advice and actually study for this class.”
Peter felt very conflicted.
On the one hand he did really want that A, it would irk him to no end if he messed up his score because of fucking art class.
And tutoring lessons with Mr. Stilinski didn’t sound that bad. Even though he’d have to recover from the embarrassing interaction they just had.
But on the other hand it’d mean less free time, he’d actually have to put effort into this class…
Mr. Stilinski gave him a good-natured smile “Just think about it, I have to head out now.”
And with that he grabbed his bag and left the room.
~*~
Peter decided to actually take the lessons.
Mr. Stilinski had definitely lead Peter on a little, so he’d spell out his intentions.
It annoyed him how easy he had followed that bait as well.
Being into somebody apparently made you stupid around that person.
But somehow that bit of manipulation drew Peter only closer in to the man.
He started showing up to the voluntary class on wednesdays and Mr. Stilinski helped Peter study the topic they were working on.
‘A lot smaller’ was an understatement. They often were just two students, maybe 4 or 5 if a test was around the corner. Sometimes Peter and Mr. Stilinski were the only people there.
But the guy didn’t seem to be bothered by that, if anything he seemed to like the chance to focus on more detailed discussions of art with so little students to divide his attention.
Through the tutoring Peter realized he actually had never really learned how to study for something and the way Mr. Stilinski helped him was to explore the ways Peter actually could learn something easier.
They figured out he was an auditory learner and Mr. Stilinski started telling Peter a lot more instead of just giving him material to go through.
They learned Peter found it easier to get into a topic for longer than just two hours so if he needed more time Mr. Stilinski often let him stay a bit longer.
Because that way he was able to get deeper into it.
Peter started to genuinely appreciate art as a class.
With Mr. Stilinski teaching him he realized how connected art was with everything and how omnipresent it was.
Art was somebody’s interpretation of the world and they used it to evoke emotions. Be it a high fantasy drawing, an abstract piece, a performance, a movie. Everything could be art and art contained parts of everything.
As their lessons progressed they sometimes became less about the actual topic they were covering in class and more about life, about the world, about identity, the meaning of things and everything else that might come up.
Especially when it was only the two of them they sometimes went wildly off topic.
Peter had never felt this good with another person before, this understood and challenged at the same time.
Mr. Stilinski was probably the smartest person Peter ever met.
And he was not just book smart.
He seemed to understand the world, people, life…
Peter was way beyond fantasizing about Mr. Stilinski visiting him in his bedroom.
He was in love with the man.
His life revolved around those lessons.
He would have wanted for them to never end.
But despite all those feelings he kept his professional distance, because he now understood that the man would never actually have considered taking him up on his offer.
And frustratingly it only made him more perfect and worthy of Peter’s admiration and love.
At the end of the year Peter was up to a B+ and he actually was okay with that.
~*~
His last year in high school Peter started to feel something weigh on him and he didn’t know how to handle the topic. Of course it didn’t take long for Mr. Stilinski to notice and ask Peter what was going on.
He hesitated to tell his teacher what was bothering him but then decided for it.
If anybody had some helpful advice for him it’d be Mr. Stilinski.
“My parents want me to go to law school…and I am sure I’d do great. But I kind of want to do something else…”
Mr. Stilinski smiled at him warmly.
“What do you want to do instead?”
Peter stayed quiet for a moment, should he really say it?
Who else better to tell than Mr. Stilinski.
“I would like to become a teacher for English and History.”
He saw a moment of surprise on the teacher’s face and didn’t hide his grin at that.
It was seldom that something caught the man off guard.
Then Mr. Stilinski’s face went smooth again and showed another smile.
“I think you could be a great teacher Peter. I mean, the job is not great…you will be underpaid and a lot of students won’t like you, even if you try to be a good teacher. Some students might even make you morally very wrong offers…”
He gave Peter a teasing smirk.
“But I think you could handle it and help a lot of kids.”
Of course Mr. Stilinski knew what to say to make him feel less ridiculous about his idea. Maybe he really should talk to his parents about what he wanted to do.
Even though his dad would probably not be happy…
~*~
The end of his last year was approaching and Peter dreaded the day he and Mr. Stilinski would meet for the last time.
Peter had managed to get straight As almost through the entire year but neither him nor Mr. Stilinski had ever brought up that he could stop showing up to the voluntary wednesday class.
It gave Peter a good feeling because he suspected it meant his teacher did at least enjoy hanging out with him a little bit.
After all, if it was only the two of them Mr. Stilinski could just have canceled the class and enjoyed his free afternoon.
The last wednesday came and they were alone once again.
They talked about different things for a while, making jokes as usual and getting deep into some philosophical questions. But eventually Peter couldn’t avoid the topic anymore.
“I’m going to miss this” he blurted out as Mr. Stilinski had laughed at one of Peter’s comebacks.
Dear god he’d miss that laugh so much, the way it lit up the man’s face…
He’d not just miss ‘this’ he’d miss him.
His teacher.
The only man Peter had ever loved and maybe the only man Peter would ever love like this.
That was a very scary thought.
He had so much time ahead of himself…
So much time he’d not spent seeing him.
Mr. Stilinski had let silence fall over them and had studied Peter once again with those seemingly all knowing eyes.
“There will be others, Peter.”
“What do you mean?”
There was something like sad wisdom in the man’s expression.
“Other people you will be able to talk to like this. Other people who will understand you and challenge you. Other people you will be able to learn from.
I know I have taken up the position of your mentor for the last two years.
And I am okay with that, because for a mind like yours and mine some focused attention from someone can really help us grow.
And you have grown a lot. I am very proud to have been able to support you along the way for a bit.
But you can’t just learn from one person. That would keep your view of the world tragically narrow.”
Yes there was definitely some form of sadness in Mr. Stilinski’s eyes.
“I will miss this too Peter. But if I can give you one last bit of advice for your future.
Surround yourself with a diversity of people. People who experience the world differently than you do.
Let them tell you how the world is for them. And learn where your blind spots are and how to broaden your vision as much as possible.
If you listen to all kinds of people and let them show you their world. you will come as close as you can to seeing the actual world all of us live in together. Not just your version of it.”
Peter didn’t know what to say to that.
He took those words though.
They did speak to a deeper truth about the world.
“Thank you Mr. Stilinski.”
He realized he sounded a bit choked and tried to blink away some uncried tears, but he didn’t really care.
Going home after that conversation he felt surprisingly okay.
Like that advice had been Mr. Stilinski giving him a part of himself to take with him into the future. He supposed loving the man meant honoring all that he had taught him.
~*~
And Peter had honored it.
Now he was graduating valedictorian of his class and was about to become a teacher himself.
They asked him to give a speech and he agreed to do it.
He invited his parents, his sister and her kids and after some contemplation also Mr. Stilinski.
Although he still wasn’t sure if his former teacher would actually show up.
He had just been some student after all.
He read over the speech a last time, he knew it by heart, but he also knew better than to get sloppy.
His phone rang and when he picked up his sister Talia told him they were almost there and would meet him in front of the university’s main entrance.
He placed the speech in the inside pocket of his suit and grabbed everything he needed to leave the flat.
~*~
When Peter was called up to give the speech he looked out into the crowd and his heart skipped a beat when he saw a very familiar face in the back of the room.
He had actually showed up.
Peter blinked twice and then just got into his speech before he might start to second guess anything.
He talked about his first days, about how proud he felt of the entire group he was graduating with, of how many people he met who widened his horizon and who he felt honored to have learned from.
Then, against the end came the part he was somewhat anxious about, but he was definitely not going to change it now.
“And finally, I want to thank a few people. I want to thank my parents for supporting me, my big sister for making me the thick skinned, snarky asshole I am today and I want to thank my highschool teacher Mr. Stilinski.
He taught me to not just be a snarky asshole but to also be kind, to go with open eyes through the world, to see the art in everything life has to offer.
And over all he taught me how to actually fucking study for something.
Because without that I definitely would not be standing here.
And lastly of course, a huge thank you to all of you who made this journey with me. It’s been a great time. I wish all of you success and happiness in your future.”
He heard the applause but his eyes were drawn to where Mr. Stilinski was standing.
Even from this far away Peter could clearly see the smirk on the man’s face and he felt his heart beat faster.
He had to sit through the rest of the ceremony but his body and soul felt like they were just naturally gravitating towards him.
This was going to be a lesson in patience.
~*~
After the ceremony ended Peter was swarmed by family and friends to congratulate him, tell him they liked his speech and just chat for a bit before moving on to their respective next part of the evening.
Through all that time Peter hoped Mr. Stilinski would show up but he didn’t see the man anywhere.
Eventually he accepted his friends’ invitation to go out and celebrate.
He hugged his family goodbye and headed to the parking lot of the university.
In the distance he saw a person leaning against his car.
He felt his heartbeat speed up again as he instinctively knew who it was.
Forcing himself to keep a relaxed pace and not just run over to the man was difficult, but he managed it.
The closer he came the more he realized how weak his memory had been compared to the real deal.
There his former teacher was, casually leaning against the hood of Peter’s car, hands in the pockets of his red jacket, hair a bit longer than last time, framing his face, which currently had some charming stubble, eyes trained on Peter, mouth showing his usual smirk.
The only sign that over six years had gone by were the slightly more visible laugh lines.
And if anything that made him more attractive.
Peter stopped just before they’d have been in arms reach from each other.
“You remembered the car I drive.”
He got a genuine smile at that.
“Yeah.”
A moment of silence hung between them.
“I liked your speech” Mr. Stilinski then said, gesturing while talking, the way he always used to do.
Peter hadn’t know what exactly he wanted from seeing Mr. Stilinski again.
Maybe realization that he had moved on?
There had been times when he had felt like he had.
Times when he had felt very connected to other people.
People he still felt connected to.
But when the first phase of meeting a new person had cooled down nothing ever really had compared to the way he felt for the man in front of him.
So if anything he realized the opposite.
He had not moved on.
At all.
His heart still yearned to always be like this, just in the presence of him, at least that, if he could have nothing else.
Maybe he should try to get a position at his old highschool…his younger niece and nephew would probably hate it, so that could be fun…
“Thank you. I was very happy to see you in the audience. I wasn’t sure you would come.”
Mr. Stilinski chuckled.
“And miss the celebration of my brilliant former student’s achievements? Not a chance.”
Another moment filled with silence.
But this time they were looking at each other and Peter felt like the air kind of changed, got charged in some way.
He felt like this was it.
The moment.
If he ever found the right moment and the courage again to make a move, to throw all doubts out the window and be honest about how he felt, this was it.
“Did you know I was in love with you in high school?”
Mr. Stilinski didn’t laugh or scoff or frown, he smiled softly and wistfully sad.
“Yes Peter, it was hard to miss the crush you had.”
Peter shook his head.
“No, I didn’t have a crush on you. I was in love. I might not have known the difference back then, but I know it now.”
As Peter made that distinction Mr. Stilinski tilted his head a little.
“I apologize Peter. I didn’t mean to downplay the feelings you had back then. But either way, I hope you don’t think I should have done anything differently. There would have been no way to acknowledge your feelings without either stepping over the line or hurting you.”
Now it was Peter’s turn to smile wistfully.
“No, I know. And I knew even back then. It only made me love you more.
And I meant what I said in my speech. You taught me a lot about life and about being true to myself and never stop learning from the people around me. I know it shaped a big part of the person I am today.
And I guess I am wondering if that might be a person you woukd want to go out with.”
He saw that rare surprised look and didn’t hide his smile.
“Don’t worry Mr. Stilinski. This time it has nothing to do with my grades, I promise.”
The man scratched his neck for a moment and laughed awkwardly.
“I…uh…I didn’t expect that. But I’m not opposed to that…not…not entirely. We might have to talk about the whole me shaping you thing.
Because that sounds an awful lot like I groomed your or something but…I’m not blind, you are an ad- we are both adults…and-”
Peter had to grin at how much the man’s demeanor changed the moment he didn’t feel in the position of the mentor anymore.
It was such a stark contrast to how he knew the man.
It was also extremely adorable.
And it helped Peter to find the confidence to take the lead from here.
He stepped closer and reached out one hand to place on the man’s neck and get him to stop rambling and focus his attention on Peter.
When he had the man’s focus Peter gave him a reassuring smile.
“You are very cute when you get flustered like that. But let me assure you, you will never be able to make me do something I don’t actually want to do. But if the context concerns you, why don’t we discuss it over dinner? I know a great place nearby.”
Mr. Stilinski smiled back at Peter gratefully.
“That sounds like a good plan. Also if we are actually doing this you should start calling me Stiles.”
Peter grinned and took a step back before holding out his hand for the man to take.
“Alright Stiles, let’s go.”
And the moment those long, pale fingers slid into his and closed around them he knew he’d do whatever he could to make sure he’d get to hold that hand many more times in their future.
