So, today is the BIG day—Maria Bamford's new book is out! 🥳

To celebrate, I have a new post up of 10 fun facts about one of my favorite female comedians and the only woman Bo Burnham wrote a paragraph about in his 2010 list.

where have all the women been? are you sexist, bo?! i think one of the worst things about comedy is the lack of women. and whenever i see a brilliant female stand-up, i realize how masculine and restricted most comedy is – and how the spectrum of it could be doubled if we told little girls that people would like them for being funny, instead of telling them to go to the tanning booth while the boys work on their dick jokes. but guess what? all that gender talk is irrelevant when talking about maria bamford! because i'm not even sure that she's human, let alone female. one of my favorite comics around today.

“You’re crushing so hard.” she teases, and he feels his cheeks heat up.

“Shut up.” Buck grumbles, as he grabs a cloth to wipe down the counter just to have something to do. “Not like it matters anyway, he has someone.”

“Really?” Maddie frowns, tilts her head. “Did he tell you that?”

“Not in so many words.” 

“So how do you know?” she prods.

“He ordered for two people.” he says, and only when Maddie laughs, he realizes how stupid and presumptive that is. It could be for anyone, even for himself. Hell, Buck would often order something for himself and for Maddie. Didn’t Eddie say he had an abuela and a tia here? “Shut up, I know.” he groans and covers his face with his hands – and the dirty cloth that’s still in his hand.

“Ew, gross.” Maddie chuckles and pries the cloth out of his hand, dumping it on the counter. “You can be so dense sometimes.” she shakes her head. “When Eddie saw you today, his face literally lit up. He’s been waiting for you to get him his coffee, even though I could’ve done it. If you ask me, he’s crushing, too.”

“Good thing no one asked you.” Buck mutters, and Maddie playfully swats at his arm. “Ow!”

“Just ask him out, Buck, what’s the worst that could happen?” Maddie asks, before turning away just as the door opens and a customer walks in.

I really want to know how Lilith Sorrengail feels about trying her best to get her youngest daughter away from whatever it was that her dad supposedly found in the Archives after Brennan 'died', just to get said daughter even more involved with the tyrrish rebellion two: electric boogaloo.

I will never make this because it would be for an audience of one (me) but ever since reading "If we Were Villains" (story about serious drama kids in college who perform shakespeare and deal with a murder) I have been entertaining the thought of a crack fic crossover with High School Musical The Musical The Series where the staff decides they will no longer put on shakespeare after the tragic accident that happened at Thanksgiving, because Shakespeare plays would only increase the tension and drama. So they hire Ms. Jen who decides their spring play will actually be High School Musical (which exists in the 90s in this universe) and it ruins the vibe so much that everyone gives up on being dark and mysterious because they're universally pissed at Ms Jen for making them learn choreoraphed basketball dancing.

Percy Jackson episode 4 thoughts:

(there are obviously spoilers ahead)

-the flashback with his mom T-T she's so panicked about percy knowing how to swim because she knows what's coming for him someday. i was not ready to get hit with feels this early in the episode

-'gotta earn it?' oh. oh percy. this girl willingly takes a knife for you in five years.

-the anger at the godssssss i'm loving how righteously pissed percy is at them already

-'who's froufy? YOU'RE FROUFY. what's froufy? i think i need to eat.' is- is this how i sound when i'm tired bc this is how i feel when i'm tired

-evil chimera lady's moon hair clip is pretty and i want one

-i'm loving how the show is really playing up the theme of monsters aren't always monsters and good people are sometimes bad and bad people are sometimes good. the mother of all monsters looks like a really nice lady and seems so invested in the chimera and helping her grow and learn to hunt and she sees the demigods as monsters, people she needs to defend against and stop. in the last episode, it was medusa and how she was a victim, not a monster, and yet she was still willing to kill and that's what made her a monster. 'monster' isn't something you're born as, it's something you become through YOUR OWN CHOICES.

-oooooh that shot of the arch in the puddle gave me literal chills for some reason

-'and it's earthquake proof, so posiedon can't ruin it.' '... nice'

I recently met Jennika in the idw comics and now i have Family Web thoughts.

(i had said a while ago that i probably wouldn't add Jennika or Venus until i knew more about them. Well here we are. for jennika at least. Still haven't met Venus (if she's even in the idw comics. everyone else is so i kinda expect to see her at some point) but i have a way of adding her in as well, which i might do regardless.)

I'm not sure i have words enough today to explain my entire thought process on Jennika here, but i'm going to certainly try. under the cut b/c it might end up rambling

Jennika is the turtles' bio little sister born months after their disappearance. I'm not sure if Lou knew about her before everything went down (i'm thinking not since i'd imagine it was fairly new news to even Mama and she just didn't have the time to tell him.)

Her Spider traits are visibly subtle unless she is actively showing them off. Her eyes are red (and can be entirely red w/ a bit of a glow like mama's spider eyes) and her teeth are pointed. She can also stick to surfaces (which she does a lot) and she might do webs like mikey (i'm still debating that one.)

Jennika grew up fairly isolated b/c Mama already lost her other four and she didn't want to risk loosing Jennika as well. She had tutors for everything. She excels in dance class and when she showed interest in martial arts, she was given a teach and excelled in that too.

She idolizes her mother and, having grown up being told about her older brothers (and promises that they would be reunited one day) she idolizes them as well. Well, she idolizes the versions of them she's mentally imagined over the last 12 years. So meeting them in person would be a bit of a shock since she was expecting four perfect brothers and, instead, got four goobers who think that even frozen pizza is a delicacy.

She can already use her mystics pretty reliably (via a mystic conduit like the boys' weapons). Hers is basically just shadow clones that she can (maybe) mystically switch places with when needed.

She usually hangs out on the ceiling of mama's office when she's not in classes. But, once she turned 13, was finally able to convince Mama to let her help a little more directly. Since then she has posing as Mama's assistant (though mama insists that she must use a clone if the task is anything other than standing next to Mama. Jennika doesn't always listen to this rule.)

I might have more, but i can't think of it right now. so just enjoy some concept art for the turtle's little sister, i guess.

I love it when fmc is constantly considered as plain and not very beautiful by others and she also has accepted this fact but mmc shows up and sees right through her and always tries to prove to her how beautiful she is and not just her appearance<33

I finished reading the httyd book 2 a couple of days ago, I liked it a lot too!

Sharing some comments about it so be careful, spoilers below! 👇

If you have them, i would love to hear more of your thoughts on armand. Do you think the lestat flashback version of him and their relationship is going to be anything like the version louis and armand presented? What would you like to see them to with him next season?

Mm, yeah, I think Lestat's account of their relationship is going to be fairly different, but I don't think it'll be entirely different from Armand's account either? Like there's enough there that feels rooted in the book - like Armand kidnapping Nicki to bait Lestat out, and Lestat's involvement in the destruction of the Children of Satan cult, and Armand's feelings about that, plus their mutual attraction to each other - that I don't think will drastically change in Lestat's recount, although, of course, Armand's deliberately leaving Gabrielle out is hilarious.

This is spoilers for the book, so heads up, but one of the things that I do think will be changed from Lestat's POV is that he and Armand had sex. They almost have sex in the books, and definitely have a strong connection and mutual attraction to one another, but the scene where they almost consumate is such a pivotal scene in demonstrating the fact that Lestat's still traumatised from Magnus which Rolin's expressly said that he wants to explore. Like Lestat's genuinely into it until he gets pretty explicitly triggered and then Armand tries to drink from him anyway (sorry again for the crappy photos, my copy of TVL is conveniently still on my desk, haha):

Armand making a point in 2.03 of telling Daniel that Lestat had made a 'remarkable recovery' from his turning before going into all the great sex he and Lestat had feels pretty pointed to me, and I'd be surprised if they veered much from the book as a result. How they decide to explore that is anyone's guess though.

What would I like to see them do with him next season? I really want to get some juicy Children of Satan cult flashbacks, haha. I love the sequence in the books where Armand and Lestat and Gabrielle are kind of circling each other in Paris, and Armand's struggles with his own identity and emptiness. There's also this beat where he and Lestat connect over the fact that nobody has ever loved them enough to teach them anything, which to me is such a poignant and compelling aspect of their connection, and really feeds into this sense of who he is in the modern era.

Armand's about as good at being alone as Lestat is, so I think there's a lot of fun to be had there too with Daniel and Lestat being on tour together, and I kind of love the idea that he might be bouncing between fixations on people as he tries find something to really hold onto. I don't know though! What would you like to see?
