When you got time, do you have any tips on writing Ingo and Emmets dialogue? I really like how you write them but I can't seem to get their speech down. It's mainly Ingos which is annoying since he canonical has more dialogue than Emmet.
Oh thank you!! I’m glad you enjoy- writing these boys dialogue is one of my favorite parts of writing and has made me seriously consider how I write speech for every character I do. It’s been great practice!
Okay, actual advice time lol.
HOW TO WRITE INGO AND EMMET
(According to me, Blue)
(Now, keep in mind that there isn’t one true way to write the boys, and this is just how I personally write them. Take this with a grain of salt)
When you’re first starting out writing the boys I recommend writing dialogue in your own voice and then submasifying it.
For example, let’s take this dialogue and transform it:
“Sorry I’m late for work! My dog chewed through my nice pants so I had to find some new ones! It’s been a bit of a rough day today, not gonna lie.”
So starting with Ingo-
Ingo talks extremely formally and is super long winded. When writing dialogue for him, try to imagine a fancy British butler who uses long words and long sentences. Replace normal words with more “fancy” ones and use more words then you really need to. (A thesaurus can be extremely useful for this)
“My sincerest apologies for my tardy arrival!”
Then, pepper in train terms as much as possible. If he goes three sentences without saying something train related, find a way to stick one in. If you’re stuck, look up a list of train words and take inspiration (I’ll include a list of train expressions I commonly pull from at the bottom of the post) (Make sure to use “Bravo!” and “All aboard!” whenever applicable as well)
“I awoke to the unpleasant surprise of joltik holes in my trousers this morning- which delayed my cab significantly as I was forced to find an undamaged pair!”
I personally strive to use consonants (stuff like I’d, we’ll, don’t) as little as possible with the boys. For Emmet it’s to add to the choppiness of his dialogue and for Ingo it’s because that man would rather use fifty words when one will do. (It also makes them sound more professional!)
“Honestly, after a morning like this one, I pray that the remainder of today’s tracks prove to be much smoother.”
Another thing to keep in mind is that Ingo is extremely polite while Emmet is a bit more blunt. Try to use titles like “sir” and “miss” when writing Ingo- and then just don’t bother with Emmet.
Next up is Emmet, who I personally find much harder then Ingo! Unlike Ingo who’s dialogue you need to add words to, Emmet you need to subtract and simplify! This is the post I originally read to kinda get the jive of things, but here’s my pointers!
First off, figure out what concepts the are being expressed in your sentence, and split those apart.
“Sorry I’m late for work!” has two parts- an apology and an acknowledgment that the person is late. For Emmet we would want to split this single sentence into two.
“I am Emmet! I am late! Sorry!”
Next is vocal ticks! Emmet has several, and they should ideally be sprinkled in sparingly through his dialogue. (You can see that I used ‘I am Emmet’ in the previous section)
‘I am Emmet’ should be used when he is joining a conversation or when he’s about to say something about himself. It CAN be used more then once in a single conversation- but try not to overdo it.
‘Verrrrrrrry’ is another one! Other submas authors have him roll the r on other words as well, but I stick with verrrrrry. This one is easy to use- just extend the word very with extra Rs and use very whenever naturally applicable.
‘Yup’ is one as well- and one I admittedly don’t use often. It rarely jives with the way I write Emmet so I usually don’t bother- but you should definitely keep it in mind!
And of course, train terms! Less often then Ingo of course (since he says less words in general) but if you can find a way to fit it in, go for it.
“The joltiks chewed holes in my pants! Verrrrry naughty. Had to find new pants. Holey pants do not pass safety checks! Yup!”
Finally, the man likes his patterns! When writing Emmet it’s a good idea to have his Blubapedia page open nearby so you can just steal chunks of his script from that. (You can, and should do this for Ingo too!)
“Bad morning. Oh well. Follow the schedule! Everybody smile! All aboard!”
Of course, the man is perfectly capable of speaking longer sentences- but when and where he does so is up to the author.
All that being said, it’s important to remember that you’ll likely have to attempt their dialogue a few times before getting a sentence to flow right. Even for these examples I had to do a couple takes until I found one that really worked!
Here’s a couple of other notes for writing Pokémon characters in general:
Watch out for expressions and words that use animals. (like beeline or ‘in the dog house’) Try to replace those words with their Pokémon counterparts- (such as combeeline [which I’ve typed so many times I’ve started using internally in my day to day life]) or something that sounds close enough (like if your censoring f***, ducklett doesn’t work nearly as good as duck. So try muk instead!)
Do your best to replace religious swears with Pokémon religion! Instead of heavens, or the big G word, use words like, ‘Dragons!’ Or ‘Sweet Swords of Justice!’ (Of course, these are Unovan swears. For Hisui you should be using things like ‘Sinnoh’ and ‘great Time!’. Other regions have their own legendaries as well)
And finally, my list of train terms I pull from regularly!
Cab (or car): To refer to one’s body
“I am afraid my cab is in need of repairs.”
Tracks: A plan or intended route
“Very well! I will follow the tracks you have set!”
Destination: The goal or like, the actual destination
“Bravo! Your talent has brought you to the destination called victory!”
Station (or terminal): A location
“Very well! Let us set our tracks to the Pearl Clan’s station!”
Two Car Train (or three or four or whatever number you need): Friends or a team
“Emmet and I are a two car train!”
Couple (opposite being uncoupled): To join together
“I must ask that you couple your car to mine as we make our way through here. It can get quite dangerous!”
Engine: Another term for your body, but more specifically in regards to energy or drive
“I’m afraid I must rest my engine.”
Refuel: Eat.
“It is getting quite late- let us take a break to refuel.”
Conducting: Guiding
“I look forward to conducting you on this endeavor!”
Derailment (or collision, wreck, trainwreck): Something that has gone wrong.
“Apologies. It appears I have been derailed.”
Unscheduled (opposite being scheduled): Something unexpected
“Ah! A cave in! It appears we must make an unscheduled stop.”
Passenger: Person (or Pokémon)
“It appears we have picked up some unexpected passengers!”
Conductor: Ingo sometimes uses this to refer to himself (works especially well in Hisui)
“Passenger, please refrain from stabbing the conductor”
Delay: Something happening later then scheduled
“Apologies for the delay! Let us begin!”
Sidetracked: put off course
“Ah, but now I have sidetracked us with this talk.”
All aboard!: Good conversation ender 💙
“ALL ABOARD!!!”

Let's Talk Dionysus and Melinoe
A question I will say right now and to keep in mind for this is "What is the purpose of Dionysus and Melinoe to the story?", I ask this because I can't think of any answer besides RS just wanted them there. Which in my opinion sucks because of how RS portrayed the two. I really do believe the two could have a bit more narrative weight (mainly Melinoe) and since RS won't do it, I might as well make my own au sorts to give my thoughts an outlet. However, that's a post for another day. I want to focus on Lore Olympus for this post. This is going to be way longer than my other post.
Random Disclaimer: This mainly targets the entirety of Melinoe and Dionysus' portrayal concerning Orphic myths. Due to my unfamiliarity with Orphic myths, anything I do say about Orphic myths is from surface-level research. I will acknowledge that throughout the post, I'm not a professional, and I will never pretend I am.
Let's start with Dionysus first since I'm a bit more knowledgeable about him. So as some may know Dionysus is the Greek god of wine, vegetation, festivities, and madness. His portrayal in LO is simply the god of wine. A lot of people (including me) have some issues with his character in Lore Olympus for many reasons. I can't speak for others, but I will give some of my reasons for my dislike of his character. I'm doing this to give context to why I think his portrayal is disappointing.
The existence of alcohol: One of Dionysus's most important moments in his myths is the creation of wine. He makes wine and shares it with people around the world. So, the fact that alcohol (which includes wine) existed before Dionysus was born is a bit of a problem. Mainly due to the fact it takes away something integral to Dionysus.
The purpose of Dionysus being a baby: this combines with the first point a bit, not a lot to put it in the first point. Dionysus has no reason to be a baby. He's essentially a background character that is in the frame more often. Due to Dionysus not providing much to the story, RS might as well have not added him or made him an adult. The cast itself is pretty bloated due to RS wanting to tackle multiple myths. So, Dionysus not being there or an adult in the background would make more sense.
LGBTQ Representation: So, RS is pretty bad at making LGBTQ rep. I say this because I have a lot of issues with Hestia and Athena (speaking as someone who's an Ace Lesbian). This post is not about those two and the wider issue with the LGBTQ rep in LO. However, I do feel it's necessary to bring up Dionysus regarding LGBTQ rep. Dionysus is a baby and staying in the underworld it's highly unlikely Dionysus would stay in the mortal realm for a long time. Also, since wine does already exist it does leave out a myth that mentions a male lover of Dionysus. Another part to consider that rubs me the wrong way is the fact RS used the name of said male lover as the name of Psyche's "nymph form". This has led me to be worried that if LO had more seasons RS would have ignored Ampelos (Dionysus's male lover) in favor of only acknowledging Ariadne. Keep in mind I said also "only" and not just "acknowledging Ariadne". This is due to the fact that Dionysus had many lovers outside of Ariadne. However, a part of me knows that I can't verify if RS wants to end at season 3 or not. Either way, Dionysus and LGBTIQ rep is a symptom of a much greater problem.
RS focusing on the god of wine: I don't know if RS knows Dionysus is more than the god of wine, or if she only focused on that to not overlap with Melinoe on the Madness part. Either way, just like with a lot of gods in Greek mythology they are more than the thing they are most known for. Not acknowledging some of these other things makes Dionysus feel bland.
TLDR: Dionysus is very interesting and LO from a timeline and story perspective robs Dionysus of anything interesting. Like a lot of other gods.
RS has a lot of material to work with if she wanted to make Dionysus a part of the main cast in some way. Which I am a bit inclined to believe she kind of wants to due to using a specific myth related to Dionysus. So, let's touch on Orphic myths for a bit, since it focuses on Dionysus and Persephone a bit more. From what I can find it's believed that Dionysus was an incarnation of Zeus and Persephone's son Zagreus (who was killed and later reborn into Dionysus). The Orphic myths are the only myths I can find that say Persephone is Dionysus' mother. So, I think it's safe to say that RS has taken some bits and pieces from the Orphic myth. Another reason I feel comfortable saying that, is the existence of Hydros. Hydros is mentioned in the Orphic theogonies, and RS made him a character in LO.
[Gaia and Hydros: Episode 229]
So, RS wanted to include Dionysus in the way that she did. Having Persephone be Dionysus' mother. However, I think this was a bad move because 1. this happened not so long after the H x P marriage (chapter-wise I'm not sure about the timeline) and 2. this does absolutely nothing for Persephone and Dionysus. Take Dionysus out of the story and nothing will change that's how insignificant Dionysus is to the plot. I guess at the moment since RS decided the Grape with legs can speak (not well but noises are coming from his mouth). Regardless of whether Dionysus becomes important or not, he wouldn't matter to the plot. Any importance he might get in the future could be given to another character. Speaking of another character, let's talk about Melinoe.
Melinoe is considered a goddess/chthonic nymph of Madness and of the dead ghost may be included as well), daughter of Persephone, and/or an Orphic title for Hecate. Her birth parallels Zagreus' birth in some ways. Mainly the fact that Zeus is both of their fathers and he disguised himself to sleep with Persephone. A major difference I noticed in my research is that in the Hymn to Melinoe, it states that she was born in the underworld on the mouth of the Kokytos River.
Now from what I can find Hades might have been a facet of Zeus rather than his own person. While I can't verify if that is 100% true, I will touch on Hades not being the father. Either way, there is more emphasis on Melinoe being Persephone's Daughter. So, I find it odd that RS made her more associated with Hades rather than Persephone. Ignoring the fact, the story forgets about Melinoe too often. I think Melinoe would have worked fine as a replacement for LO Dionysus. Maybe Persephone could have done a similar process to her own creation and made Melinoe. I pictured this happening before she eats the pomegranate seeds or maybe we can find some to bs Melinoe into existence. I just want Melinoe to have more of a connection with Persephone than Hades.
In my honest opinion, neither of these two should be in Lore Olympus. Mainly due to the fact the plot doesn't really care for these two. If these two had to be in the story, I think making these two parallels in some way would be pretty interesting. Mainly due to the fact they both deal with madness in some way. I'm just disappointed with how RS handled them. They could have been cool, same with everyone in LO.
That's all I got for now, I'm physically in pain, and the pain is making it hard to think clearly. If I missed something, please let me know.

The happiest you've ever been is ALWAYS supposed to be the current partner.
Is it though? How does one even quantify that? To me saying this everytime you have a new partner is just to try to invalidate the good you had with someone else. Every partner she had is a different person, she had good moments with all of them doing different things. It feels childish to me to always pretend like the new guy is the only time she ever felt truly happy and there wasn't anyone and anything ever this good. It's ok to say you are happy now with this person, without trying to make it a competition or as everyone prior was shit.
That's why you have swifties saying dumb stupid shit everytime about how this guy is seriously the one that is making her feel loved/is loving her the most, is the best boyfriend she ever had and they never saw her this happy. They do it every single time, because of this mindset Taylor herself encourages.
and I mean maybe one day Joe will also say he never loved anyone like his future wife and that may or may not be true (because as we know a lot of times love isn't enough and we may have had this love that really was passionate and different than everyone else but doesn't work out. We can love more than one person a lot during out life in different ways and have this one person that was our first big love. We don't have to find someone that surpasses what we felt back then, just someone that we also love and suits us better), but one thing I did notice was the difference in their interviews.
Taylor as usual talked about in superlatives how she has never been this and that and that in her whole entire life. Joe in his, to try to convey the picture he is also doing well didn't say he was happy like he has never been before now. He actually said "he's fortunate enough to be in a great place at the moment", which to me rings genuine. This to me is a much more down to earth, common sense of talking. He didn't say he has never felt better after leaving Taylor or equivalent and everything in his life has never been better. To me it reads yeah I had tough times and I'm doing better now and that's how a human being works
It actually reminds me how Taylor herself used to answer these kind of questions back in 2019. She wasn't talking in superlatives and actually was much more mindful with this stuff. But this ties back to the fact that Taylor ends a relationship and apart from Taylor L, doesn't ever hold the perspective that we were happy, we had really good times together and just because it didn't work out that doesn't make it any less true or the love we shared any less strong and real.
It's ok to say yes I was happy once with the other guy and I am happy again now. It doesn't need to be everyone before this guy was shit and now I know finally what true love and happiness looks like.
I kinda see what you’re saying and yes ofc you can acknowledge the good you’ve had in past relationships but imo your current relationship, should, in the moment, feel overall better than your previous ones. In hindsight maybe you’ll think “actually it wasn’t that great and maybe the one before that was better” even but IN THE MOMENT I do think you should feel you’re happier than you were because otherwise like… why aren’t you with your ex or single and looking for someone who made you as happy as your ex (or happier)? Like you should feel “this is the best rs I’ve had in my life” (not saying the others were shit lol but this one’s even better) because otherwise I’m not sure you should bother with it? If you feel like “eh this is fine” then idk why you’re doing it? And that’s not to say a past relationship can’t have been more passionate but imo it shouldn’t feel like it made you HAPPIER than your current one.

IPL 2024: MS Dhoni or Sameer Rizvi, who should be CSK’s finisher? Sidhu makes his pick
Former India cricketer turned commentator Navjot Singh Sidhu understood that CSK need to give opportunities to Sameer Rizvi and back him as the finisher for the franchise. MS Dhoni turned back the clock with his blazing knock of 37 runs from 16 deliveries against Delhi on March 30, Sunday. However, touted as one of the best finishers, the former CSK captain couldn’t guide his team to a win as CSK suffered their first loss of IPL 2024 against DC by 20 runs.
Answering to a question by Indiatoday.in on Star Sports Press Show, Sidhu said that a talent is nothing without opportunity. He felt the team needed to give that confidence to Rizvi, on whom the franchise shelled out a Rs 8.40 crore in the IPL 2024 auction.
“Talent is nothing without opportunity. You have to give youngsters opportunity. One is giving opportunity and the other thing is the player accepting the challenge. You have got to give Rizvi that confidence,” Sidhu said.
He heaped praise on Dhoni for his ability to bring the best out of the players and instilling that faith to make full use of their abilities.
“The same player isn’t that strong in the other team, but when he comes to Dhoni, he becomes a completely different player, how? Because a good leader is the one who walks behind him and ignites faith,” Sidhu added.
Rizvi announced his arrival in the biggest cricketing extravaganza with a massive six off Rashid Khan’s delivery during the match against GT at Chepauk. The uncapped Indian player smashed a quick-fire 14 from 6 balls to make a crucial contribution to the team’s total.
However, the youngster couldn’t replicate his performance in the match against DC as he was dismissed for a golden duck during CSK’s stiff chase of 192 runs. Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja shared an unbeaten stand of 51 runs from 23 deliveries, but their late blitz wasn’t enough to help the team cross the finishing line. Sidhu acknowledged that Dhoni has got nothing to prove and will look to unlock the next gen's potential.
"A drop of honey catches more flies than a gallon of vinegar. So, therefore, fitting people in their rightful place is what is most important. Dhoni is an asset, when he bats and finishes. Jadeja and Dhoni, one plus one is 11. They are multiplying their strength. Dhoni has nothing to prove. The biggest strength of a leader is that he builds future leaders. He will actually unlock potential for the youngsters."
Sidhu talked about the importance of finishers in the sport and how their contributions in the death overs could prove to be a make or break for the team’s result.
“The bigger challenge is not batting at No. 3 or No. 4, the bigger challenge is when you bat for the last six overs, the last 7 overs. That is the time when you are really tested, why? That’s when you are going to be scoring 1 ball, 3 runs. 1 ball, 2 and a half. This skill is in a very few people. I am telling you, it's not easy to be a finisher. You are not getting accolades, but it’s the quality of those runs, which actually helps the team win or lose,” Sidhu said.
CSK will look to bounce back as they face Hyderabad in their next match of the season on April 5, Friday.

Regardless of Harry’s relationship status, writing and reading basically porn about him on the regular is fucking weird. And that includes all the concepts you publish on this blog lmao. If you don’t think that fan fiction in this fandom contributes to fans projecting on him and seeing him as more of a fantasy than a human, you’re lying. Not to mention the countless boundaries that are crossed. Real person fanfic is gross. There’s nothing wrong with finding him attractive and expressing it, but there’s definitely a line. And no matter what Harry wears or how he acts on stage when he’s literally performing, it doesn’t mean he wants or is asking for you to be extremely weird about him lmao??? He said himself he tries not to think about himself being a sex symbol like 😭 At the end of the day you’re all strangers to him and you’re nothing more than fans at his shows. And he’s an artist. He might have laughed at some rude signs, cheekily serenaded fans and had banter with people at shows, but none of that actually crosses into his personal life. Im sorry but the way you talked about that video of him literally smiling and waving at someone says it all 😭 He can’t even smile at a fan without you making it into a y/n fantasy. You’re in your late twenties girl……you have thousands of followers and you’re encouraging this. “He’s a 28 year old whore” He loves sex? I wouldn’t have guessed! I’m betting his girlfriend does too, good for them! he’s still in a committed relationship with a woman who has kids, the man isn’t dating her because he’s not serious lmao. He’s nearly 30 guys. It’s not nice to completely downplay his feelings or imply his relationship isn’t that deep. How the hell y’all think you can speak on whether he’s gonna get married soon is beyond me goodbye. Oh and if this bothers you and your anons who are completely up your ass then idc because you need to hear it. What you do on this blog is disgusting, just like larries who write about him and Louis, just like wattpad harries, just like all other fic writers who go into explicit territory.
#yet you are on my blog 😭#i know you’re ass has read fic and concepts#and I am the first one to acknowledge he has a rs???#send this to every other blog who does this and send proof quickly

8 Anti LO Asks
1. I am, personally, of the opinion that you can rewrite the myths as much as you want (as long as you keep the characterization of these gods consistent, acknowledge that these are people's religious figures, and are respectful of the original myth/god's characterization). I personally am writing and entire story where 0 to none of the original backstory for the children of Kronos are used. In fact, most of all the god's backstories are changed. The problem comes about when you're a mythology expert, when your fans claim you're version is the true version, when you demonize gods and cause pagans to get harassed, when your fans change the wikipedia page for different real life religious figures to match your story, etc.
Greek Mythology is a playground for writers, since there really is no limit to what you can do with it. But you have to remember that these gods existed before you, and will exist when you leave.
2. I mean, Harry Potter is a badly written mess from a transphobic white lady and she still has fans claiming its the peak of fantasy and redefined literature over actual good series like Lord of the Rings or the Discworld books. LO fans are basically the same in their blind devotion, which is funny bc can't you guys can just like something normally? They don't need to claim it reinvented the wheel to be enjoyed. We all like trash from time to time, no shame in that, in my opinion.
3. @ the redesigning video: if LO fans cant tell who anyone is when someone tweaks even the tiniest thing from RS' designs, then she failed as a character designer. A good character design should be able to fit in multiple styles and still make sense even if they're in different outfits or not exact 1 to 1 in accuracy from the source material. That's such an unintentional burn on LO fans to admit they can't tell anyone apart in their own comic unless its heavily spelled out.
4. I can't not imagine LO Thanatos going home to his cave with Hypnos and just shit talking Hades while Hypnos just nods and cringes. "He's dating a 19 year old Hypnos!!!! A 19 year old!!!" "Fuckin, ew. What." "THANK YOU!" Sorry it's just so funny, and the only thing that gets me through reading LO.
5. On the an ask about Daphne's ears not being pointy in some panels, my theory is that a LO editor couldn't take RS' Germanic elves style and corrected it for once! RS does such a bad job at differentiating characters that she gave nymphs pointy ears - which was never a thing for nymphs in Greek folklore! - so we can tell who is who.
6. i think my big problem with lo is that i would not hate it NEARLY as much if it was just... an original story. with original characters. and maybe, at most, being INSPIRED by greek mythos. but because its meant to be seen as a ~faithful retelling~, i can't help but get super upset. these aren't the gods i worship, these are ocs with the names of the gods pasted onto them. (staying anonymous so i don't get harassed <//3)
7. God the mixed vibes of LO give me a headache! Are we supposed to see the story as one of corporate greed, indifference and death, or as a sweet romance where the characters go through bad times? Rachel please make up your mind before mine explodes.
8. it definitely was less refined and could often get a bit messy at times, but the early LO art at least had some charm and seemed to have thought out choices put in it, but now it's very flat and and even generic looking, even the colors arent aiding in making it look unique. where the early style used interesting color choices and dynamic long panels to tell the story, its now replaced by flat, static images that look like rushed first attempts over something done by 5+ people. its sad to see.

Let’s Talk About Norman
I’m going to start off by telling you all something you probably already know: Norman is abusive. I try not to use super strong language on this blog because calling someone abusive / toxic is a pretty big deal, but Norman is an abuser, full stop. Aside from the obvious physical violence though, there’s a lot of emotional trauma he causes Ruby through his actions— this post is mostly going to be talking about Norman’s emotional abuse and how it affects Ruby’s psyche and actions throughout the arc instead of just “oh he punched his son down some stairs” because I think it goes way deeper than that. With that out of the way, the rest of the post is below the cut!
PHYSICAL VIOLENCE
I can’t talk about Ruby and Norman without mentioning this— it’s the most clear cut evidence of his abuse on-panel. He punches his son down the stairs, engages in a high stakes fight with him, and puts him in mortal danger (which Ruby has to save himself from). What I’m concerned with isn’t the actual incidence of violence itself, but rather the emotional baggage that comes with it.
The interesting thing about the Big Fight scene to me is that Norman instigates the conflict. Norman lures Ruby into a “dark and scary building” in the rain and away from others, appears behind him, threatens him, and throws him against a wall. The only thing Ruby had done in that moment is ask his dad how / why he had found him— Norman was the instigator of violence. It is Ruby’s reaction to this immediately violent start that segues into the next Big Thing about their relationship.
ENVIRONMENT OF FEAR
It is obvious from the minute Norman appears on panel that he is intimidating. Multiple characters throughout the arc mention that they are scared of / intimidated by him, but none are more obvious than Ruby. In fact until we reach the scene at the Weather Institute, Norman hasn’t been shown in a positive light at all from Ruby’s perspective. Ruby continuously mentions fear about his father: he imagines his father grabbing him, looking angrily at him, and generally seems to be afraid of him. Ruby expresses worry and concern about the consequences of his father’s anger— and that’s ALL he thinks about. Ruby mentions explicitly that he has seen “Norman’s Dark Side” and tries to hide as soon as he appears. He even shivers at the mere mention of Norman. Ruby’s entire motivation is his fear of his dad, which is bad, obviously.
Every thought about Norman that Ruby has up until the Weather Institute about Norman express fear and stress Norman’s emotional distance. Whether or not Ruby and Norman love each other is not of importance here, what is important is that Ruby has constant worry and anxiety about how Norman will react. His entire motivation at the beginning of the arc is centered around doing things behind Norman’s back and giving him definitive proof of Ruby’s accomplishments— Ruby is so nervous around Norman that he considers communicating to be a risk. This is typical abuse victim behavior and it continues through the arcs. Living under the constant threat of (often violent) punishment has taught Ruby that disagreements and communication in general are dangerous and can spiral into violence very, very quickly— he displays this same fear time and time again.
Quick Aside: As everyone here probably knows, the main conflict in the oras arc is centered around Ruby’s unwillingness to tell Sapphire what is going on for fear of how she will react. Ruby’s hiding of his memory of their confession in the Emerald arc is the same— Ruby refuses to communicate because he is afraid of how Sapphire will react. His main emotional flaw is the fact that he is driven by fear; Norman has shown him there are consequences to communication and Ruby carries this lesson throughout his entire life. He is a victim of abuse and this hampers his ability to communicate and be emotionally vulnerable. He is so caught up in the idea of consequences that he is more than willing to lie or omit the truth to avoid the consequences of talking to people about stressful topics. This is not to say that Ruby’s actions are excusable— he’s still a dick with communication issues, but whether or not Kusaka intended it, Norman’s abuse and its consequences define Ruby’s emotional arc.
ANGER ISSUES
I can’t really talk about the environment of fear that Norman created without talking about his anger issues. He crushes a phone, shoves people out of the way, knocks multiple Pokemon out at once, and otherwise acts aggressively in various situations throughout the arc without any real Reason. As if these hints weren’t enough, we actually get confirmation through Ruby’s mother that Norman “does this often”— and judging by Birch’s reaction, these displays of destructive anger aren’t normal in in-universe. Whether or not there is a violent / strict parenting style within the universe doesn’t matter, because Norman is shown to be uncharacteristically aggressive in comparison to other adults in the series. Judging by Ruby’s reaction at the Weather Institute, he implies that his type of violence towards him isn’t uncommon; he seems almost resigned to it.
To wrap up this section: Norman’s aggressiveness is atypical even in-universe, he is shown to be unable and unwilling to curb his violent anger, and this creates an environment of fear among his family that permanently impacts Ruby’s ability to communicate effectively with others.
PART 2
DISCLAIMER: This is where things get… dicey. Everything I’ve mentioned previously is rooted in the actual drawings and actions of the characters or overarching themes / problems. This next part however focuses on dialogue. It is almost impossible to truly understand the tone of each line without being a fluent Japanese speaker (which I am not) so instead I’m going to use Viz and CY to the best of my ability for this section. I’m not going to extrapolate this to Kusaka’s intentions, since without the original work that’s nearly impossible, but I can at least talk about the way these come off in English.
EMOTIONAL ABUSE
Admittedly, Viz is the worst about this. They constantly hype Norman up and excuse his behavior, outright censoring some of the physical and emotional abuse. Viz absolutely mangling the tone of RS, however, is a post for another time.
Because Norman actually speaks to Ruby at length a grand total of twice times in the RS arc, we can break down his actions into these two instances: the first is at the weather institute and the second is as he’s dying.
Rather than go based on overall theme, this scene is best done line by line (this is using the CY version due to limited censorship compared to Viz).
Scene 1: Volume 17, Chapters 208-210
(Norman is dangling Ruby off the roof of a building by his collar. There are sharp rocks at the bottom)
Ruby: Re… release me…! Norman: Insolent brat!! Is that how you talk to your father?!
To start, Norman uses tone policing and deflection. He focuses on the fact that Ruby is “talking back” to him and making demands of his father, which doesn’t acknowledge Ruby’s request or the fact that Ruby is being dangling over the roof of a building. Also note that this is the first time the words are bolded and that they stay this way throughout the fight— Norman verbally escalates the fight. Norman is abusing his position of power over Ruby in order to excuse his actions and pass the blame back to his son.
Ruby: I don’t care how furious you are with me… I’m ready for it!
(Norman decks Ruby down a flight of stairs)
Norman: Why did you run away from home?!
Note once again that Norman is implied to start raising his voice first even when Ruby isn’t. There’s another deflection here: Norman changes the subject rather than actively respond to anything Ruby says.
Norman: Well? Say something! You’d better voice your complaints right now!!
(Ruby has a conversation with the Swimmer, who advises him to apologize to avoid his father’s rage and “just go home” which… fuck you Swimmer Jack. I’m skipping that part of the dialogue bc it isn’t that important).
(While Ruby is debating what to do, Norman’s Slaking lifts the stairs that Ruby is on and tries to fling him into next Tuesday).
Ruby is physically prevented from escaping by being dangled above Norman. I shouldn’t have to tell why physically preventing someone from leaving an argument is a bad thing.
(Ruby decides to fight Norman)
Note that Norman is physically and emotionally forcing Ruby into two possible options: Fight or be obedient. He is preventing Ruby from running and deflecting Ruby’s attempts to explain himself. He then shifts the blame to Ruby *again*, attacking Ruby and his pokemon with full force and implying it was Ruby who instigated the conflict in the first place.
Norman: … so you wish to fight me? … Iron Tail and Hyper Beam… I was the one who taught you those attacks. There’s nothing about your attacks and strategies I don’t know about. You’re just wasting your time! Give up!
Here, Norman does two things: he stresses Ruby’s dependence on him and his power over Ruby. It’s a typical “your success is dependent on me” and a “there is no option except obedience” rhetoric, and is likewise typical of abusers. Norman is stressing the things Norman has gifted to Ruby (battling knowledge) and using whatever he can to force Ruby to do what he wants— he’s exerting his control.
(Ruby turns the tide of the battle, so Norman likewise switches tactics by attacking Ruby himself and attempting to hit him with a staircase. Ruby falls down the stairs and is dangling over a pit of spikes when Norman stands on the edge, blocking Ruby’s only escape route).
Norman: Now will you come quietly? Stop being so stubborn
Not only is Norman forcing his son to choose between obedience and Literal Death, he also shifts the blame again. He excuses his own actions by claiming it is Ruby’s stubbornness that forced him into this position. He deflects the whole “putting my 11 year old in harm’s way” by claiming Ruby’s own resistance to Norman’s violence is the trigger for the violence itself. It doesn’t make sense, but it’s victim-blaming nonetheless and sadly, it works
(Flashback time: Norman admits he was going to give Ruby permission to participate in contests and gets emo about it. They fall, but Norman catches Ruby. This doesn’t matter though, because they both end up falling and Ruby uses his running shoes to save them both).
Ruby: (thinking) Ru- running shoes… my birthday present from dad… saved both… our lives
Ruby displays pretty typical abuse victim behavior here, focusing not on Norman’s 3 threats to literally kill him but instead on the One Good Thing Norman did. He doesn’t mention that it was Ruby himself who saved them both or that Norman was the one who put them in danger in the first place— he’s in total denial about the severity of everything that happened.
(At this point, Norman looms above Ruby with an angry expression and a raised pokeball. Bystanders panic because it appears that Norman is going to attack Ruby who, by the way, is unconscious on the ground, but Norman gets a surprise call from Winona and turns away after realizing that Winona can see him).
“I only stopped attacking my son when I realized people were watching”… alright fuck off then Norman
Norman: HEY!! Idiot son! You disobeyed your parents, then you ran away from home. I’ve had enough! Just do what you want! In return, you’d better accomplish your goals!! A man should complete what he has set out to do… … before he can return home!!
Hoo boy. Norman never apologizes, deflects all the blame onto Ruby, insults him twice, and then tries to save face with Winona and the people around him by giving Ruby permission to do contests— which he was apparently planning to do all along. He emphasizes the things Ruby did in response to Norman’s actions (Ruby ran away from home because he knew his dad would be unsupportive and gets violent during disagreements, so in essence Norman is to blame for backing him into a corner). Norman twists the narrative in order to make Ruby the instigator in every case, justifying Norman’s responses as reactions to Ruby’s problematic behavior
Swimmer Jack: Isn’t that a wonderful father? Ruby: Thank you… father.
Ok first of all Jack is a dumbass, so jot that down. Second of all, while it’s unintentional, Ruby is being gaslit to hell and back. It is only after Norman’s omission of all the abusive behavior and bystanders’ affirmation of Norman’s love that Ruby starts to think positively towards his father. The threat Ruby used to think was so large has been downplayed and outright denied by the people around him, so Ruby’s prior fear of Norman diminishes. Ruby’s fear of Norman and the violence Norman took against him is denied, downplayed, and ignored, so Ruby begins to doubt his own animosity towards his father. Thanks Swimmer Jack you unintentionally gaslit an 11 year old.
SCENE 2: (this one is much shorter, thank god)
(Norman, while he is dying, explains the whole deal with how he was ordered to search for Rayquaza yada yada. Throughout the exchange, Ruby gets increasingly upset).
Ruby: (thinking) barred from the test and forced to search for Rayquaza… It must be some kind of punishment! What could Dad have done to warrant such… why was he made responsible… ?!
Ruby: … … but… come to think of it, dad is not someone who makes mistakes easily… something’s not right!
Slight aside, Ruby has been so convinced of his father’s power by others that he is unwilling to even CONSIDER that his dad fucked up, which… wow!
Ruby: That day… Dad must have taken the rap for someone else… and… (flashbacks to Salamence Incident) that person… was….
Ruby: (out loud) … me?! That person who set Rayquaza free… was it me…?!
Norman: Yes.
And then he dies!
(Technically he says “oh I did all that out of love” (paraphrased) and then dies but it’s just a continuation of the previous thing).
Norman, before dying, does not say “I’m proud of you” or “I’m sorry for everything” or anything remotely comforting, instead he says “hey Ruby, you’re responsible for my death and all your childhood trauma alongside your friend’s. Peace.” (this is paraphrased).
Even on his actual deathbed, Norman places the blame on Ruby for Norman’s own actions. He makes Ruby feel guilty for Norman leaving, Norman hiding information from him, and Ruby’s tumultuous childhood.
CONCLUSION
None of this is to say that Norman doesn’t love Ruby or that Ruby doesn’t love him back— I’m fairly positive the two of them love each other dearly and want the best for each other. However, Norman is a child abuser who reacts violently, instigates violence, and then turns around and denies said violence. He creates a culture of fear among his family, gives Ruby some serious communication issues, and the narrative takes his side. Norman is a child abuser in canon and has a very VERY profound effect on Ruby which has emotional ramifications throughout Ruby’s entire character arc all the way until oras.
TLDR: Normans sucks man

☕️ + megumi and hojo?
(Give me a ☕️ + a character/ship and I’ll ramble off whatever thoughts and opinion I have about it)
Oho, interesting! Thanks for the ask!
Megumi Tadokoro
Megumi is a character I love and adore. She has given me no choice in that matter, lol. I cannot possibly dislike a character who portrays such a huge amount of real, genuine kindness. Adding to that, she's incredibly easy to relate to (I know that I am not the only one who does).
In my opinion Megumi has had some of the very best moments in all of Shokugeki, especially in it's earlier parts. The Shokugeki against Shinomiya in Trainings Camp is still my favorite battle in the whole manga after all. Her performance in the Autumn Election Premlins was also really satisfying and sweet to see. (Monkfish Preperation Scene Supremacy)
Tsukuda really did great on making Megumi a character that I really want to see succeed.....But that is where the problem comes in.
The problem is that Tsukuda struggles with the Show, Don't Tell-Rule from Central Arc onwards.
Pre-Central, Megumi's character development was solid in my opinion. It was believable and not too fast-paced. But once focus was shifted to Azami-Drama, Megumi and other characters had to take a little step back from the action. And Megumi's character arc started to stagnate.
Through Training Arc. Autumn Elections and Stagiares, Megumi had visibly gained some more confidence in herself and her stage fright problem from the beginning of the series was ceasing. However there was something missing: pay-off. Her character arc lacks proper pay-off.
You see, throughout all of Central Arc Megumi has not won any single fight on-screen. She was given one victory against Shigemichi Kumai but not even second of that fight was actually shown to the reader. But when it's time for a more detailed fight against Momo, she looses.
In her fight against Momo, the judges do find the time to point out tho that Megumi might hasn't been able to beat Momo however there is quote unquote ✨potential✨.
Thing is that the "potential"-thing has been getting old at that point. It felt very reminiscent to Megumi's fight against Ryo back in the Autumn Elections. Ryo was able to win, however it was made clear through multiple dialogue-lines that Megumi did give him a good fight, defying the expectations the audience had from her. So basically that fight was like: Yes, she lost now. But she is on the right path. There is a lot of potential.
The issue is that time has progressed ever since the AE and it was about time for us, the readers, to see that potential unfold.
But we never got that.
We get a lot, a lot of talking about Megumi's potential throughout Central Arc but never an actual showcase of it. And it does not get much better with BLUE Arc either (I mean, what do you expect from that trainwreck of an arc anyway?)
First off, despite all of her potential and her participation in the Regiment de Cuisine & the retaking of Totsuki as a whole Megumi somehow ends up with the lowest seat in the Neo-Elite 10??? And I'm just: Why??? Why is she the only explicitly ranked below Eizan & Nene (who got a massive downgrade) with everyone else far ahead? (Tho the Neo-Elite 10 Ranking as a whole is one confusing mess and I should probably stop trying to bring sense into it if I do not want to go insane, lol.)
The infamous Hot Spring Fight against a Noir is where we finally see Megumi shine a little on-screen (at least in the manga). And well....I enjoyed seeing that but...
It is still not the proper pay-off she deserves, I'm sorry. Because ultimately that Noir-Guy is some random One-Off we never saw again. And that's a problem.
This character had no time establishing himself to us. We barely know him.
To put it into perspective: Satoshi Isshiki beating Julio Shiratsu in the RdC did not feel like a very impressive thing. Because we have only come to know Julio in that one fight and had absolutely no judgement on how powerful he may be (not to mention, that he was mostly placed in a very ridiculous light). It would have been a lot more impressive to the reader had Satoshi won his later fight against Eishi Tsukasa, because Eishi is a character who we have spent a lot more time with and who has repeatedly been portrayed as absurdly skillful and an actual threat.
See what I mean? As much as I loved seeing Megumi being an absolute badass in that Hot Spring Saga...It was not the satisfying pay-off I want for her.
The few victories she gets are always against random One-Offs while her fights against the more important characters are always a loss for her. Case in point: BLUE. She gets anOTHER off-screened match against some Noir in Chinese clothes, whose name I won't bother looking up if he even has one, where all characters talk about how talented she is but once it's time for her to go up against big bad bitch Asahi she looses. And that sucks.
Not to forget the fact that Megumi always gets strung along to every big event but we never get much justification for her participation (other than the obvious Meta-Reason that she's a main character).
Think about it, her and Takumi got extremely lucky in Train Arc by having Rindou giving them a free pass just for the lulz, while everyone else got expelled. Then a good number of messy chapters later, Megumi and Takumi get invited into BLUE without even a shred of reasoning behind it. Why them? How random is it to invite the 1st, 7th and 10th seat but no one else? Meanwhile when BLUE Arc was first mentioned in the manga they told Jouichiro that it's actually extremely rare for a student in that age to get into this tournament. And Jouichiro was a 3rd year back then, what are those three 2nd Years doing there??
The anime at least addressed that by having Totsuki's students fight for the participation (I appreciated that, if only the episode that covers it wasn't so lazily done)
I'd have much less of an issue with that if they actually gave Megumi something to work with in that arc. But really in RDC and even more so in BLUE, she's mostly just there I feel. She barely really impacts the story meaningfully in both of these arcs, I feel.
And it's one big shame.
As I said, I love Megumi and Tsukuda set her up as someone who I wanted to see succeed and defy expectations. Her journey up till Central Arc was a lot of fun and very compelling but then it just...came to a halt. And her arc never got any real, proper closure I feel. She was instead pushed more and more into the background and she just did not deserve that, man.
Never forget that she is one of the mains after all and she should have been treated as one.
damn I did not think this would get this long ahhdhdf
Miyoko Hojo
When realising that Miyoko's speciality is Chinese cooking, I was super excited for her! I really love Chinese food and I've been waiting for it to be covered in Shokugeki up till that point.
I like Miyoko quite a lot, she's definitely one of my faves from the...well, I don't think "secondary" cuts it...the tertiary cast. Unfortunately we've got to see so painfully little of her.
I like that Megumi, in the most Megumi-ways, made her learn a lesson like "Feminism =/= You can not possibly get along with a man. Ever.", but it was also interesting to see acknowledgement of the inequality of men and women within the culinary business through Miyoko.
Miyoko's friendship with Megumi is something I adore and I would have very much liked more of it please. I enjoy the thought of Miyoko, this tough, unapproachable woman, having her face soften whenever this pure, little angel approaches her. Also 100% sure Miyoko would drop-kick whoever gives Megumi a funny look.
I also would have liked to see Miyoko interact more with Kuga, because I imagine it could have been a lot of fun. From the one, tiny interaction they've had I feel that Terunori actually respects Miyoko quite a bit. Which I think is interesting, because Terunori otherwise seems to enjoy bitching at people.
Honestly? If you ask me??? Miyoko should have been in the Regiment de Cuisine.
I'll never get over how she's shown in the audience, alongside Nao, smiling when the rebels are about to snatch victory. Like ahdhFJG, excuse me Ma'am what business do you have just watching??? You can not tell me that from what we've seen about Miyoko that she would not be up to kick Azami's ass out of Totsuki. I generally think it's stupid for the Rebels to go up against the Elites in a number even to them.
Azami. Explicitly told you guys. That you can bring more than that.
You were up against the Elite 10 Council.
YOU SHOULD HAVE ASKED ANYONE YOU CAN GET!
YOU SHOULD HAVE ASKED MIYOKO
(and Nao as well tbh)
(The Regiment de Cusine could have been a lot better to buy for me if the Rebels had shown up with more participants tbh but that's a different subject)
Anyways, as I said I wish we could have seen a lot more of Miyoko. But it just wasn't meant ot be :( I mean, when characters like Alice and Akira get pushed to the side, what chances does the tertiary cast have?
I'm at least glad that she is sort-off shown being the new president of the Chinese RS in Les Dessert 1? I like that for her.
But yes, ultimately...another criminally underused character. I look forward to write her being a cool mom in my fanfic tho.

how visibly torn and pissed off hoosier looks over the other marines tormenting the japanese soldier, stringing out his death when he’s obviously in a lot of mental as well as physical pain? the only bitch i respect in this house.
okay so like? while the shot is scarring both for him and the audience to see that kind of effortless murder it was the right thing to do? it’s better then have him be tormented and it will help leckie in the long run? how broken he looks though? like the distance is his eye and the way he swollows....... WHO IS CUTTING ONIONS HUH???? brilliant james BRILLIANT

INTERVIEW: Girl Friday.
LA band Girl Friday's debut full-length Androgynous Mary will be out August 21 via Hardly Art.
Burning deep in Girl Friday's music is an unquenchable will to survive. The LA-based band don't blunt the impact of the themes they work through in their ferocious, knotty rock songs, but they don't let the more harrowing aspects of being alive and young in the 21st century daunt them, either. Taking full advantage of the dystopian shades of post-punk and noise rock palettes on their arresting debut LP, Androgynous Mary, Girl Friday nevertheless suffuse their music with abundant optimism. The world is a hellscape, but the four of them are in it together.
With bold, dramatic guitar lines and tightly wound vocal harmonies, Girl Friday negotiate the stress and alienation that comes with being sidelined from normative society on Androgynous Mary.
We had a chat with the band all about Androgynous Mary, the music industry and much more. Read the interview below.
Hi! How are you? How have you been spending your time during this pandemic? How has it affected you as a band?
Libby: "Hello! How are YOU? These days, generally diving into some long forgotten projects. I have been chipping away some music that may or may not ever emerge into the world."
Virginia: "I’ve been able to give some more time to working with other bands and collaborators which has been really nice. Outside of that, just using this time to reflect and learn."
Sierra: "Welcome to this interview. I am stocking up on metaphysical paraphernalia in the hopes that the spirits in my house will finally relent and participate in my long-awaited masquerade ball."
Vera: "Initially I was making tunes and learning Spanish and hanging with my family - now I’m always working but for the teachers union here in NZ so some important work and there is lots to learn."
You are gearing up to release your debut album Androgynous Mary in August. What can you tell us about the record?
Virginia: "In the words of the late Steve Irwin, “She’s a beauty!” I think we’re all very proud of dear Mary."
Sierra: "Mary likes to explore the entire emotional world at her disposal and say whatever she wants about it."
What were your musical influences for the LP? Who were you listening to around the time of writing it?
Libby: "The movie Hole."
Virginia: "Definitely second Hole. Pretty sure I had also started descending into my first Cheap Queen deep dive at the time."
Sierra: "I was photosynthesizing in a Placebo hole that I have yet to claw myself out of. And also a lot of Blaenavon. Every answer must include the word “hole.”"
Vera: "Holy moly mother Mary, literally holes what we dug and sat in."
Please talk us through your songwriting/creative process for Androgynous Mary.
Sierra: "On the third try, we successfully meet in the center of a dark room, under the disco ball. We scream in anguish into assorted jars and shake them violently until we can’t deny the brilliance of the sound contained therein."
What do you hope fans/listeners will take from the album?
Vera: "I just want people to be weird and feel ok about that."
Virginia: "I hope it’s as satisfying as eating a home cooked meal with your chosen family."
Sierra: "I hope they can listen to it on repeat for an extended period of time and feel like they are being held by a loving entity who is just as confused as they are."
Libby: "I hope they like me."
Were there any other songs written during this period that didn’t make it onto the album, and if so, will you revisit them again in the future?
Virginia: "Wouldn’t you like to know..."
Sierra: "We have a staggering and comical number of voice memos that, and I promise you will thank us for this, will likely never emerge from their technological encasings."
Libby: "Nah."
Which new artists/bands are you listening to right now? Anyone you think we should be checking out?
Libby: "Kills Birds, Ulrika Spacek."
Virginia: "Mod Pods, Suzie True, Cry Babe, Hot Moms, Genevieve Artadi."
Sierra: "Hayley Williams’s Petals for Armor. And my brother is about to release an album with our friend Brian that he’s put so much love and work into, and the entire universe needs to hear it! It’s called Silo by The Altogether. (Disclaimer: I am on it, but I can assure you I’ve contributed very little to its perfection)."
Vera: "At the moment I can only listen to this one album by Brian Eno and John Cale, Jesus is King by Kanye, Gracie Fields and Nina Simone."
If there was one thing you could change about the music world today, what would it be?
Libby: "More Trans A&Rs. More Black A&Rs, More POC A&Rs. More accountability in safe spaces."
Virginia: "More safe music venues open to minors!"
Sierra: "Fair pay for artists too."
Vera: "Agreed with all. And yes we really need the unionization of musicians and artists and understanding our value in society. Because it is labor and the fact we ‘love to do it’ is really exploited. Going off Libby's point, I think we need to acknowledge the major influence that music created and invented by BIPOC has had and continues to have in genres (including rock) where the main profiteers today are white men. We got to dismantle that."
What challenges, if any, have you faced in the music industry? And how did you overcome them?
Sierra: "We’ve been really lucky overall in terms of the people we’ve worked with, but we have gotten some not-so-sexy commentary from people assuming our genders and what that means about the music we’re able to make. We rename them all “Chris,” quietly hex them, and move on with our lives."
Finally, what do you have planned for when we're back to some sort of normality? I expect you're excited to get out on the road to tour the album following its release and when it is safe to do so?
Sierra: "You are absolutely right about that. Other than fantasizing about future tours, I’m taking it one day at a time."
Vera: "I don’t think there is a return to ‘normalcy’, but honestly if normalcy is Trumps America with a complacent public where cops intimidate and murder and money takes precedent over life, I don’t want to go back to that anyway. Let’s keep pushing forward."

Positive Parenting - Discipline Your Kids The Happy Way, tips for personal use copied off website
Positive Parenting - Discipline Your Kids The Happy Way www.parentingforbrain.com Father ties shoes for son and smiles - positive parenting What Is Positive Parenting? How to discipline effectively? Every parent grapples with this issue. If you have young children, you know how every day can be a struggle if your child doesn’t behave. Even the most patient and nurturing parents can sometimes lose it when facing a defiant little human. Consider this: A preschooler is throwing a tantrum because Dad poured the gravy on her turkey instead of letting her do it herself. She throws up her hands, thrashing back and forth, screaming and crying for what seems like hours. Out of frustration, the Dad shouts, “Stop screaming NOW!” Does it sound familiar? Many of us are guilty of having done this more often than we’d like to admit. So how should we discipline our children without falling into such a “Do as I say, not as I do” trap? Reader Favorites From Parenting For Brain Positive Parenting Here comes Positive Parenting. It’s a parenting and disciplinary philosophy based on the work of Viennese psychiatrists, Alfred Adler and Rudolf Dreikurs. In recent years, Dr. Jane Nelsen Ed.D. refined and championed this method in her famous series of books and made it well known. Positive discipline emphasizes mutual respect and utilizes positive instructions. It focuses on learning (for the future) instead of punishing (of the past). Studies consistently show that using positive discipline yields better outcome in terms of the child’s behavior, emotional growth, academic performance and mental health. Here are 8 tips on practicing positive discipline. Tip 1: Focus On The Reasons Behind The Action There is always a reason why children misbehave even though the reason may seem silly to the parents. It is reasonable for the child and that’s why they behave that way. If parents can address the cause directly, even if they don’t get what they want, children would feel that their needs are acknowledged. They can then move on without the need to misbehave. They may still be grumpy, but they do not need to act out once they feel understood. Knowing the reason behind can also help parents avoid them in the first place. For example, a child hit his brother. The reason could be that his little brother took away his toy and he was frustrated. So teaching children to ask for permission before taking someone else’s things will prevent the issue from arising. If your child seems to never listen to you, one possible reason is that your expectation is not reasonable. Does what you ask your child to do/not to do have a good reason? Is it necessary for the well-being of your child? Tip 2: Kind And Firm Discipline Be kind to model how to be kind and respectful to others. Children learn by mimicking others and parents are their primary role models. When a parent yells, humiliates or calls a child names, the child learns to do the same when he’s upset. The converse is also true. When a parent is kind and respectful despite being upset, the child learns to deal with difficulties with composure and respect. Being kind also helps a child to calm down, be receptive to reasoning and more likely to cooperate. Being kind is not the same as giving in. Many parents mistakenly equate kindness to permissiveness. This is simply not true. You can firmly and kindly tell a child that she cannot have what she wants. There is no need for yelling, using a mean tone or talking in a stern voice. A firm and calm NO is as good as, if not better than, a loud and mean NO. Also, be firm in setting limits and enforcing consequences so that the child knows what to expect and what to base his future decisions on. Practicing decision making this way helps children grow their cognitive thinking. Tip 3: Time-Out Yourself Yes, you heard that right. You need to take a time-out yourself when needed. It is inevitable that sometimes parents are just exhausted and angered by children’s unruly behavior. But this is the true do-as-I-say-AND-as-I-do moment if you can calm yourself down and speak in a respectful and firm way. Think about this, if something doesn’t go your child’s way, do you want him to blow up, or do you want him to have the ability to control his own emotion and remain respectful? When you feel that you’re about to lose it, tell your child that you need a moment by yourself because you are upset and then go into another room. Walking away allows you the time to cool down and remind yourself about your goal in disciplining which is to teach. While there, take a few deep breaths and clear your mind for a second. This time-out technique also gives you more time and some breathing room to think of ways to deal with the issue at hand. When you return, you are refreshed and ready to tackle the challenge again. Tip 4: Be Non-Punitive. Be Creative. According to Positive Discipline: The First Three Years by Dr. Jane Nelsen, punitive punishment produces Four Rs that do not help a child learn – Resentment, Rebellion, Revenge and Retreat. Oftentimes, punishment cannot stop bad behavior and it also doesn’t teach good ones. A positive, non-punitive response is much better at settling an overstimulated child and engaging her in learning new behavior. One such response is to use positive time-out. Positive time-out differs from conventional time-out because it is non-punitive. It is not a punishment. The child is removed from stimuli that creates or aggravates the misbehavior and put into a place to cool off and feel safe. The full name of time-out is Time Out From Positive Reinforcement, invented by behavioral psychologists, Arthur Staats, when he was raising his own children. The idea is to take the child out of the environment where the problematic behavior occurs to remove the reinforcer. Eventually, the child calms down and learns to diminish or stop the undesired behavior. Unfortunately, many parents use it incorrectly as a form of punishment. They isolate and restrict the child’s movement during the time-out and add a secondary punishment by chastising and lecturing the child afterward. To use time-out properly, here are the key points: State your expectations (no hitting the dog) and consequence (time-out) clearly ahead of time. The child needs to know that he can choose the consequence by his own action. This process helps him learn to make choices and develop cognitive thinking. If he chooses to carry out the unwanted behavior, calmly tell him or take him to a quiet, safe place. Don’t call him names (you’re a bad boy), scold him, look hatefully, or be mean to him. That is, be kind and firm when using time-out. Let your child play with toys or roam around if that helps her calm down. Sometimes, when she’s very upset, you could sit and cuddle with her. Remember, it is not a punishment. Afterward, you could explain (not lecture) why her previous action was inappropriate and help her come up with a better response the next time she feels like acting out. It is not easy to come up with a positive response to every situation. Positive Discipline A-Z: 1001 Solutions to Everyday Parenting Problems, also by Nelsen is full of good advice and recommendations on how to discipline positively. It’s hard to remember all 1001 solutions or always have the book handy when you need it. So it’s important to be creative and flexible. Tip 5: Be Clear, Be Consistent And Follow Through Decide and explain the consequences of violating limits clearly before being enforced. In addition, parents need to be consistent and follow through on them. If a parent is not consistent, there will be confusion. The child may keep testing or challenging the limits to see what else can happen. To follow through means do not say something unless you mean it. For instance, do not make empty threats to cancel the ball game if he misbehaves unless you are willing to carry it out when that happens. Tip 6: Understand Brain Development And Age-appropriate Behavior Children under the age of three cannot reason because the part of their brain (prefrontal cortex) responsible for understanding consequences and making sound judgment has not yet developed. So for children in this age group, redirection instead of reasoning or giving consequences should be used. For older children, you can help their cognitive development by inductive discipline and giving them choices. Tip 7: Make It A Learning Opportunity When children are old enough to reason (older than three), every misbehaving episode can be turned into an invaluable life lesson. For instance, what is the lesson of breaking a toy? It means the child cannot play with it any more. If he didn’t like the toy, he should have given it to a friend or donate it so that others could enjoy it. If he broke a toy out of frustration, help him find other outlets to release the anger such as punching a pillow. It is also a good opportunity to give him vocabularies to explain his feelings (“I am angry because…”) rather than acting out. You are helping him develop his communication skills at the same time. Tip 8: Be Patient And Don’t Despair Positive discipline most likely won’t produce the behavioral change parents want overnight. It is not about getting fast results. It is about teaching behavior that parents want their children to emulate over time. It will take longer to see real changes because children need repetitions to learn. It can be weeks or even months before your child starts to get it. But when that happens, it will be very rewarding and the benefits will last a lifetime. With patience and (plenty of) practice, you can turn disciplinary moments into valuable lessons for kids. To happy homes!

SELLING INSURANCE... CAN CHANGE YOUR Life
Dear Readers, You may disagree with the title before reading this article, but I am sure that after you finish reading this article, we will be on the same page, I am writing this article after having 15 years of experience in this profession , during these 15 years I have seen so many people changing their lives for good, yes i also encountered some people who joined and didn't continued but that is a part and parcel of every profession and law of probability works for this business as well, rather it is more relevant for this profession because the concept of insurance is based upon law of probability.
Theory of 4 F's in professional life
I have always believed in 4F theory which in my opinion should be kept in mind before you select your career, I found all the 4f's in this profession from the first day, usually it takes generations to achieve all 4 in most of the professions , if you select this profession you can achieve all of them in the first generation and that too within few years itself.
These four F's are
1 Fixed Income
2 Financial Security
3 Fun and luxury
4 Fame
FIXED INCOME : Usually in most of the professions it either takes generations to create fixed income where one generation sets up the business or industry and next two generation nourishes it, and only then the situation comes when the next generation can enjoy the fruits of having a fixed income but there is always a threat that one wrong move can distroy the entire hard work done by the previous generations, moreover its difficult to maintain the synergies between different generations as there is always a conflict which is usually caused due to generation gap.
The other option is to take a job which again comes with lots of If's and but's, first it's not always possible to get a job of your own choice and even if you get one, then it's even more difficult to get a profile or a supervisor of your choice, which matches your style of working, most of the times you are found working for the people to achieve their dreams and you tend to loose your identity. After few years you loose your passion and keep on working just to protect your job which you usually loose at certain point of time.
But if you are a insurance advisor then right from the day you sell your first policy, you start building your book and start creating your fixed income from the next year, if we talk about life insurance, the agent gets a commission between 5 percent to 35 percent for the first year which quite tempting to start this business but it becomes even more tempting when you learn that from the second year onwards till the year the client is paying the renewal premiums the agent gets a renewal commission from 3 percent to 7 percent. Let's take an example that if Mr X is able to sell Rs 50 k policy to his 100 clients in a year then the total premium collected will be of Rs 50 lac which will enable him to earn Rs 10 lac in the first year @ 20 percent average commission and Mr X will also be eligible to enjoy renewal commission of Rs 50 k every year for approximately next 15 year, if Mr X continues to work with similar passion and discipline just for next 10 years then he creates and fixed income till his last breath.
The situation becomes more interesting in case of Health Insurance Advisor where the first year commission is between 15 to 25 percent and renewal commission does not get reduced from the next year which means the first year income gets fixed forever.
FINANCIAL SECURITY : The basic requirement to be successful in this profession is that a person who chooses to become a insurance advisor must have some passion and interest to acquire knowledge and exposure in the financial products, spending patterns and behaviour of the people that enables him to become Good financial planner this quality gets developed in most of the insurance advisors due the the nature of this profession over the time which enables them to select, decide and execute the best financial plans to create a financial security for themselves and their families as well by investing their own money in the most relevant financial instruments. Above all most of the insurance advisors are covered with life and health insurance cover where the premiums for these advisors are paid by the companies for which they are selling the insurance plans, the companies give such benefits to the agents who are doing decent business with them, this means that the financial security is automatically taken care by the insurance companies for which the agent is working for.
FUN and LUXURY : Fun and luxury is a important part of life as without this the life becomes monotonous and you ought to loose interest in your profession, Fun and Luxury has become a natural part of this profession, if I talk about myself, then I can say that in past 15 years I have travelled abroad for more than 20 times and stayed in the best properties of the world, Al BURJ, Five Palms, Hyatt & marriot are the few names where I have enjoyed the hospitality. Gone are the days when insurance agents used to maintain a low profile now days most of the agents drive 3 box cars and most of them are gifted by the insurance companies in lieu of there Good job. In my city the biggest income tax payer and the longest car is owned by the insurance advisor where both husband and wife are working as an health and life insurance agent.
FAME: Its a integral part of this profession the most successful motivators are from this profession can you imagine a bigger fame when you are acknowledged at the international platforms and once you are acknowledged at that level, you automatically become so popular that it becomes relevant to publish a biography or an auto biography. One of the biggest financial event which is usually organised in United Stated Of America annually is known as MDRT(Million Dollar Round Table) conference, The agents across the globe from all the companies are invited to attend the event, this gives them an opportunity to become a part of international alumni and share their experiences and to understand the journey of their international counterparts this also makes them popular and more efficient. Let me share with you that most popular and famous motivators and authers are from this profession, one of the popular names is of Mr Shiv Khera who usually shares his experience in insurance during his talks. You can easily find the biographies & auto biographies of various insurance agents from your nearest book shop, in my opinion the biggest level of fame is when the journey becomes so much content rich that a book can be published on your journey.
The benefits doesn't end here friends this profession is such a noble profession where you get an opportunity to help the society to be more responsible for your nears and dears. This profession also brings lot of satisfaction of being a contributor, just ask the amount of satisfaction from the agent who has handed over the claim cheque to someones family member who passed away or is in hospital whom he/she advised to buy a policy. I have lot of respect for this profession as in my lifetime till now I have handed over 3 claim cheques and have seen the teers of satisfaction & thankfulness in the eyes who are living after the death of the bread winners of the house At last I must say that this profession also has its kind of challenges and difficulties but for me that's not at all relevant against the satisfaction & in my opinion there is no profession which donot have the challenges, I am not sharing the challenges which I had ever faced as I believe that every journey is a unique so my challenges may not be relevant for you, moreover if you can actually feel whatever I have tried to express with my little knowledge about this profession then I think that enough respect will be generated for this profession which will ultimately help you to deal with all kinds of challenges.

White Holes [Cassian Andor] [6/10]
Warnings: Language Pairings: Cassian Andor/OC Summary: Captain Cassian Andor was an Officer of Rebel Intelligence for the Alliance. An emotionless tool. There was nothing more to his life than following orders and working for the Resistance. Hell! His only friend was an Imperial droid named K-2SO. So what happens when he is struck by a love at first sight and meets Dr. Lya Stryker? Will their story has a happy ending? (CassianxOC)
My fanfiction: M A S T E R L I S T
A whole new set of trainees were arriving at Yavin 4. Supporters of the Rebellion and the cause everyone had pledged their lives to. Cassian observed them. Most were children. Barely over the age of 14. Each one of them traveled from beyond the reals of the galaxy to provide their services to their cause against the Empire. Striving mechanics, soldiers, technicians, fighter pilots, and medics all crammed the main building of the headquarters. The base's commander greeted each one of them and dismissed them to a post. Today would be the day that Lux and Adair graduated from Dr. Stryker's training. They weren't quite ready to be professional medics yet; however, they had graduated from their mentorship. They would now serve to check up medics. They would assist doctor's and keep busy with clinic hours aiding those with malaise and minor injuries, then work their way up the ladder. "I'm proud of both you," Lya said looking at both of her apprentices her violet eyes reflected the pride she felt for them. "I am more than certain that both of you will be excellent medics, and don't be strangers. I'll still be around the base." She smiled at both of them. Both smiled back at her, the young couple held their hands with their fingers intercepted. Both were either very brave or very stupid to show their affections in public. The Doctor was so caught up in the moment that she failed to notice someone bump into her from behind almost making her fall over, "Excuse me," the voice retorted sarcastically. She merely glared at the man who walked away; there was plenty of space for him to walk around. That had been so unnecessary.
"I don't like that new doctor," said Adair, Who eyed the man suspiciously with his dark eyes. There was something- odd about him. "He's in charge of the clinic right? So we'll be seeing plenty of him," chimed Lux. "What's his name again?" "Dr. Aztin Cyder. He was transferred here from the base in D'Qar," Lya spoke not removing her eyes from the creature's back. He was a Khajiit from a distant galaxy. A brown, copper colored lynx with humanoid features. His eyes were the color of ambers, and every inch of his body was covered in thick fur, he even had a long tail which crept from under his lab robe. Feeling the glares from the other medic his long whiskers twitched and he turned to glare back. "Unfriendly creature.…"Adair muttered under his breath, "I hate cats." "Dr. Stryker," a young male Togruta approached the trio. Colorful tones of lime green marked his skin and his large montrals and head tails were white and a grayish shade of blue. His eyes were a matching shade of ocean blue. "You must be Seena N'Aviid, correct?" The doctor greeted the young man politely. Behind her stood another human young man. "And Forrest Ramsenn." "You're the new interns correct?" Dr. Adair Habibt acknowledged them. The medics all became acquainted with each other. Lux Nova and Adair had no problem filling them in with their new tasks and duties and showing them the strings around. "I'll be in my office getting some paperwork ready for you, come to meet me whenever you're done socializing. Doctors," She excused herself acknowledging the new position of her former apprentices. "Dr. Stryker seems alright," Seena commented. "She's strict, very hard working, but she makes sure you learn. After all, we play one of the most important roles in the Rebel Alliance's task force." Their eyes trailed the Doctor, that's when they saw it. "Adair. Str-Andor interaction at 3 o'clock," she spoke in an excited tone. The interns all eyed the doctor confused as she crossed paths with the tall, dark man. Both of their expressions remained stoic. Their eyes didn't even meet. They continued their way as strangers. "Such a shame those two didn't work out," Lux sighed disappointedly. "I wonder what happened that night they both left together, he still seemed interested in her and well the Doctor, her behavior is very unpredictable." Adair pondered. Both of the interns had witnessed the beginning, and quick collapse of their mentor's relationship with Captain Andor and both were eager for something to blossom, however, to their disappointment their relationship instead wilted. XXXX Lya closed the door behind her and leaned against it. In her own blessed privacy, she pulled out the small note from her lab coat's pocket. 'That cat touches you again. He's going to make a nice fur rug.' She couldn't help but chuckle at Cassian's note. It was scribbled in his own messy handwriting. It was a simple gesture, regardless she treasured it. Both had decided to keep their relationship under the wraps. It was what was best for both.
Besides, it was nobody's business.
Cassian was a spy. Thankfully, discretion came easily to him. Lya on the other hand- she still had some work to do. He was so good at what he did she barely even noticed that he had snuck something into her pocket until later.
It was only a while later that Dr. Stryker's newest apprentices joined her in the office. She spoke little with the two young men and got to know them some more. Seena seemed optimistic and eager to learn, he had a lot of energy and wanted to focus on treating burn victims. Forrest, on the other hand, was composed and analytical, his hazel eyes were sharp, and his interest lay in surgery. She could see that both had potential. With a quick nod and many forms and papers signed she dismissed them for the day. Lya stood up and evened out some papers against her desk when there was a knock on the door.
"Yes?" She said automatically without lifting her gaze. "Doctor," a weak voice came in. "I'm afraid I've got a terrible illness." The door closed behind the individual. The Doctor raised her bored gaze to meet the Captain's jovial smirk. "If it isn't my favorite patient," she said with heavy sarcasm dripping from her voice. "As much as I enjoy your company, I've asked you not to come distract me at work," she said with a small frown. "You don't see me showing up at your work." "That's different," he said wondering around her wooden desk. "If you showed up at my work, you'd be dead." He reached for her hand. "Right, because the medical ward is so safe, right?" She pressed her index finger against a particular pressure point in his hand. "Ouuuch," he grumbled pulling his hand back. "Friendly reminder that I can take care of myself." She nodded with the slightest of smile and continued gathering her documents. "But troopers wear armors," he pointed out. He did have a point. He wrapped his arms around her and held her in place. "Cass- I have to go make my rounds. My new apprentices are waiting for me." She protested against his embrace. "Wait- you're not taking me seriously." He complained. "You didn't even ask me what I was sick with this time!" She rolled her eyes. She loved yet at the same time hated how damn clingy this man could be. "You're such a hypochondriac. What are you sick with now Cassian?" She turned to eye him an eyebrow cocked expectantly. "I'm lovesick." He said before planting a fat kiss on her nose. "I think I’m the one who is going to be sick," she laughed while cringing. Lya would never be able to understand where the root of his infatuation came from. "Doctor Stryker?" a third voice suddenly piped in. Lya could've sworn she jumped three feet in the air. Cassian, on the other hand, played it cool and nonchalant shoved his hands into his pockets. It was the new cat in town, Dr. Aztin Cyder. "Dr. Cyder!" The Doctor greeted. "H-How can I help you?" She asked nervously. Cassian eyed the man carefully. There was something odd about him, something unsettling. He wasn't sure if it was his fixed glare on Lya or the way his massive feline teeth glistened whenever he spoke. "I knocked, but you didn't answer-" He began. It was a lie, Cassian knew better. He debated if it was best to confront him about it or merely witness and analyze his faux charade. It was apparent he had witnessed the romantic interaction between the couple. "I wanted to discuss my clinic hours with you," He spoke in a serious tone, his voice also carried an accent a distant land. One in which he would pronounce his Ks hard and his Ss would drag, and all of his Rs just sounded odd. Just the way he said Dr. Stryker as "Dr. SsstRAaicKerR,"gave her the creeps. "Right," she pursed her lips and swallowed her breath. "I think you'll be alright," she nodded towards Cassian awkwardly and stretched out her hand for him to shake. His mistrusting eyes shifted between both Doctor's and with no choice he took her hand in his. "Thank you, Doctor," he said briefly. He walked out slowly, his eyes combing every inch of the Lynx man before them. Lya flashed him a pleading look as he left. Once outside Cassian closed the door behind him. A scowl was noticeable on his features. "You seem, distraught Captain," commented K-2SO. "There's something odd about that Khajiit," Cassian said as they walked out of the ward. He adjusted his leather jacket and scratched his beard bringing the note that Lya had handed him to his close eyesight. 'Come back to me.' It was a simple note; regardless it brought a smile to his face. "Perhaps you are jealous Captain?" K-2SO suggested. The Captain shook his head slightly. He would get to the bottom of this. Meanwhile back in her office, Lya dealt with Dr. Cyder. "Boyfriend?" The man asked as Cassian left the room. "What can I do for you Aztin?" she said with a polite smile ignoring the question. He didn't falter. "I want more hours in the emergency ward, as well as my own assistants." The man said in a demanding tone. Lya clapped her hands together and shrugged her shoulders. "I'm sorry, but- I'm afraid there's not much I can do for you." "Back in Naboo I had eight apprentices and was the head of the surgical ward-" He raised his tone, which she interrupted. "Although your qualifications were outstanding, I hope you understand we can't do that just yet- to begin with we are short staffed and you've only been in the Yavin 4 base for a couple of weeks. Let's see how you do and then we can discuss it again, yes?" She spoke in a hurried tone as she once again gathered her notes, and charts amongst other documents. "Thank you for understanding," she opened the door for him. The lynx remained in his seat not even flinching. He didn't even bother in turning his head to acknowledge the Doctor. "That was Captain Cassian Andor, no?" He spoke in that eerie tone he had. Lya slowly retreated closing the door. "I can only assume, it could be… dangerous to be involved with an officer like that. With so many enemies, who knows what could happen if word got out." He carefully attempted to read her expression from the corner of his predatory vision, his teeth gleaming in the dim light of her small office.
"Get out," Lya slammed the door of her office behind the man. A Cheshire cat grin played on his feline features. He had gotten what he wanted, almost. More hours in the ER and two new assistants.
"I'm glad, you're a reasoning woman," he said satisfied. Lya clenched her fist tightly at her sides as she fought the urge to sock him in the face. This would not end like this.
He wanted assistants? Then he would have assistants. He wanted an apprentice? Then he would have an apprentice and if he wanted an office- oh he would get his office.
Lya didn't know what to do. It had been a little more than a week and Cassian hadn't returned from his mission. Then again, it was his fault this was all happening to begin with. She had assigned both Lux and Adair as his assistants. His apprentice would be Forrest since he was interested in surgery just like Dr. Aztin. "I want you to report everything to me," She had instructed her former students. Both nodded and discretely continued with their missions obediently.
It had been weeks, and Cassian still hadn't returned from his mission. It was an unusually rainy night, and Lya was presently leaning on a mountain of pillows on one of the sofas of her small round living room. The sky thundered making the window tremble and rattle. The yellow light in the room coming from the corner lamp was dim, and she ran a hand over her loose shoulder length hair as her eyes narrowed at Lux's handwritten notes. The notes were observations of the new doctor in the office, Dr. Aztin Cyder. Everything was perfectly ordinary. He treated the interns firmly but with respect. He checked in on time and performed his rounds and hours to perfection. Regardless of this, there was still something about it that rubbed her wrong. "Dammit!" She slammed the stack of papers against her crossed knees and shook her head a frustrated exhale escaping her lips. Continuing with the reports she read over the new interns. Forrest was progressing at an average pace. He was always stoic and composed. Seena, on the other hand, was being educated on different types of tissue injuries and what the best prevention and medical care worked with each. He seemed to catch on quickly, way too fast. Perhaps this child was a prodigy in medical care? Lya saw much of herself in the young Togruta. Lya tapped the end of her pen against her chin in a serious matter. She momentarily became distracted by the rain desperately tapping on the window. Having come from a dry climate, she couldn't comprehend how it was possible for it to rain so much in this forest. Thunder rumbled above in the darkness of the jungle and lighting momentarily flashed through the window. SLAM! It was then that the heavy wooden door at the entrance came apart. A violent gust of wind tossed her notes into the air; the air chilled her skin. She looked at the dark shadow outline that stood in her doorway. Water spilled inside the warm home. Alert she braced herself digging her fingers into the arm of the sofa. Her jaw clenched, eyes wide, teeth grinding tightly as adrenaline pumped through her veins. Her heart stuck on her larynx. "A-Aztin..." She managed to speak. She was ready for the attack. Her closest weapon was the pen she was currently gripping in her clenched fist. From the darkness stumbled forward Cassian instead, K-2SO followed suit. He slammed the door shut behind him catching his breath. His body soaked from head to toe. Kaytoo's metal body was slick cold. "Cassian!" She jumped to her feet tossing her remaining notes aside. Dark circles hung heavily under his eyelids. His eyes had turned into slits and remained focused on her. "Dammit! You scared the hell out of me!" She screeched, her face twisted into an upset scowl. Regardless he approached her, he didn't waste a moment in engulfing her in his drenched arms. His lips thirsted for hers as they attacked her.
"Get off me!" She allowed a sharp exhale as she pushed him away. He looked at her perplexed. "Stop." She held her breath, a stern warning in the back of her throat. Her heart was hammering in her throat. He looked at her still confused. She felt light-headed and leaned on the nearby kitchen counter. Her hand on her racing heart. "I-.…" She lowered her head slowly. Shame filling her. "I'm sorry." She sighed. "You just- you scared the crap out of me Cass."
She got a good look at him. At how drained and exhausted he really was and the way his shoulder's hunched over in defeat.
"Should we get going, Captain?" K-2SO suddenly piped. Without a second thought and with pursed lips he turned leaving the humble house. The Doctor felt the guilt weigh down on her shoulders. "Cass-" She ran out of her house after him. She ran into the rainforest barefoot wearing a loose tank top and mid tight length cotton shorts. The rain consumed her. She could feel her wet hair sticking to her face. "Cassian!" She reached him and wrapped his arms around him, holding on to his blue parka. "Now you want me?" He removed her arms from his body. "I come, tired, drained, and the only thing I want is to see you and this happens-" he raised his tone. "Cassian- I was scared! What do you expect me to do when someone comes in barging in the middle of a storm?" The thunder resounded above them. They both stood in the rain. Kaytoo stood along with them. Besides the heavy pouring of the rain, there was not a single sound amongst them. "Let's-Let's just go inside." She asked in a kinder tone. Her eyebrows arched upwards in concern.
"Y-You're soaking wet," she said nervously as she wrapped her arms around her own cold body. He remained silent. "I'll make tea," she said quietly in an attempt to keep busy. "I will now be powering down Captain," K-2SO announced a sudden beeping sound he emitted allowed both humans to know he was out. Lya could feel Cassian shuffling around the apartment. The Captain unzipped his wet parka and laid it on a chair. Luckily he remained dry underneath.
"Make yourself at home," she said dryly as she walked past him handing him a cup with tea. He responded with an unfriendly look. She casually removed her shirt as she made way to her room, sipping some tea on the way. A couple of moments later she returned wearing another loose blouse and plopped down amongst the many pillows on the sofa. She pretended not to mind him. However, he remained where he stood. His eyes were fixated on a blank spot of the dull wall. Lya kept her eyes on some notes she had been formerly leafing through. In a couple of moments, she heard Cassian shuffling about. She didn’t raise her gaze. His socks standing before her suddenly filled her vision. Raising her head, her eyes traveled across his bruised naked torso. Patches of hair adorned the middle of his chest and trailed so the south of his navel. She looked at him sadly, sighing her fingers reached for his sides which she caressed lightly. "Does it hurt?" She asked after a moment leaning forward and brushing his hot skin with her tender lips. "I'm sorry," She whispered meeting his eyes. "It's just…- hard for me when you leave." Tightening her grip on his hips, she pulled him down to the sofa and embraced him as if it were the last time. Both embraced some moments later. His head on her chest as he existed in romantic gaze. He found comfort in her touch and held one of her hands against his heart. Cassian didn't say much about his mission, then again, that was highly confidential information. It's not as if he was allowed. Lya mindlessly read over her reports with her free hand. "I think there's a spy in the quarters," he said suddenly. "Hmm?" She asked half not listening. "I think we've been infiltrated." He said turning his head up to face her with a severe expression. Her eyebrows furrowed confused. Her mind wondered for a moment, and the sudden image of the new feline doctor filled her vision: Dr. Aztin Cyder. She slightly sat up. Cassian looked at her confused. If Cyder was a spy, there was no other reason why he would want control of the medical ward, and his own assistants to do his dirty work for him. "I think I know who the spy is…" She said when the realization hit her.

Holiday Meet Cute
a slight wrench
Young-Do waits for Eun-Sang at the bottom of RS International’s showcase staircase. They hold fashion events on it, so it is the perfect setting for Eun-Sang to preen as she reveals her dress. He knew she was joking when she suggested the Drowned God for dinner but he also knew she had been there at least once if she knew it existed.
He knew he wasn’t in competition with her former clients but he wanted to show her a good time as a date and not as an escort expected to give him sex. This was important. He was going to chastely kiss her on her doorstep and end the evening politely. He has a plan all the way until she appears and walks down the stairs.
The lovely dress he happened to see online swishes around her legs as she effortlessly descends. Her hair is down and he just offers his hand and kisses her when she is on the second to last step and they are the same height.
“Thank you,” she says and takes his arm as they walk out to his car. He opts to drive tonight to give them more privacy. “You look very handsome. I like your tie.”
“You are so very beautiful.” He kisses her again. “Congratulations on your interview. This is a very big step and should be celebrated.”
She takes his hand and he likes her faint blush. It means that his words matter to her. He tries so hard to be careful not to repeat what every man she’s ever been with has tried. He doesn’t want to remind her of her past. He knows he is the man she wants and that’s all that matters but he still needs to try.
“Spin me for full effect.” She steps off the last few stairs and he spins her. Her dress flares out and the back is just as spectacular against her skin as he thought when he saw the dress in pictures. “You have very good taste, Vice President Choi.”
He wrinkles his nose at his title. It puts too much distance between them until she snuggles his arm and they walk to his car. He realizes belatedly that he didn’t provide a jacket of any kind and it is still winter. He takes off his suit jacket and puts it over her shoulders before they get in the car.
Then he turns the heat on full blast.
“What kinds of questions do you think they’ll ask you?”
“The standard employee questions. Then they’ll dive into my recommendations. I was able to contact a few of my law professors in time. I’m worried about the background questions.”
He takes her hand and squeezes her fingers. “You have nothing to be ashamed of. Your tenacity and practicality are good things. Judge Seo already likes you. Manager Baek likes you and she likes no one. They can’t force you to answer questions about being an escort.”
Young-Do catches her giving him a curious look but since he’s driving, he ignores it.
“That was amazingly casual for something we don’t really talk about but is here all the time.” She puts her hand on his leg and it relaxes him.
“I feel like if I acknowledge it too much or ask too many questions we’ll become uncomfortable or I’ll hurt you. It is here and it is something I’m aware of even though I try not to dwell on it. I hope that’s okay.”
“I feel very much the same way. I am grateful for the effort you put in to make me feel at ease with you. It makes me feel very beloved.”
Again, her words relax him. “I love you very much. Thank you for letting me pick the dress and not taking back your suggestion to come here. That means a lot to me,” he says as they drive up to the restaurant. A valet comes around his side and professionally helps him out of the car. Young-Do goes around to Eun-Sang’s side and helps her out so her dress doesn’t get caught anywhere.
Everything is easy and fun between them for most of their dinner. He gets to discover her love of fancy shrimp until she pauses mid bite and winces. “What’s wrong.”
“I see someone I know. He’s very crass. Can we leave?”
“Of course.” Young-Do waves over the waiter and has him take his credit card and box up their meal. He hates what happens to Eun-Sang’s demeanor. She uses her hair to hide her face and hugs his jacket around her shoulders a little more tightly.
Unfortunately, while they are waiting for the valet, they are joined by two men, neither of whom Young-Do knows personally but Eun-Sang’s grip on his arm tightens.
“Eun-Sang?” The older of the men makes a show of looking at her and recognizing her. “It is you. You’ve moved up. A vice president now? Wow.” He drawls it and it grates on Young-Do’s skin. The car arrives and he opens the door for her. “Just a minute, how much, Eun-Sang? How much to leave your vice president and come play with us tonight.”
“Min-Ki,” Eun-Sang says, “You’re drunk. Go home to your wife. I don’t do that anymore.”
Min-Ki laughs and reaches out to touch her and Young-Do grabs his wrist and presses on the nearest pressure point. “Eun-Sang, get in the car. I’ll join you in a moment.”
She doesn’t hesitate. The valet helps her into the car and with her dress. Young-Do doesn’t like it but his eyes are focused on the man, several years older than him, but obviously leering until Young-Do finds the right place with his thumb and presses so the other man nearly goes to his knees.
“Park Min-Ki,” Young-Do finally recognizes him from high school. “First, solicitation, no matter the woman, is illegal. Second, she refused you and clearly told you she isn’t an escort anymore. Third, you are a married man. Cheating isn’t criminal but it is perfect ammunition for an unhappy wife.” He shoves him back and takes the keys from the valet. “Come near her again and I’ll press harassment charges.”
“Assault is also illegal. I’ll sue.”
“You saw what happened to Kim Tan. Good luck.” He gets in his car and drives away. Eun-Sang trembles beside him so he doesn’t touch her. He knows better now. “I am taking you home,” he says as gently as possible. “You can call me when you’re ready to see me again. I’ll wait.”
“You showed great restraint,” she whispers and he can hear the tears as she presses her face into his arm. “I don’t think I want to be alone this time.”

Imperii fuerat Romani Scotia limes; Romani eloquii Scotia finis erit*
“For defending the true religion, as it was then reformed, and is expressed in the Confession of Faith above written, and a former large Confession established by sundry acts of lawful General Assemblies and of Parliaments, unto which it hath relation, set down in publick Catechisms; and which hath been for many years, with a blessing from Heaven, preached and professed in this kirk and kingdom, as God's undoubted truth, grounded only upon his written word.”
Greyfriars Kirk, Edinburgh, built in the early 17th century, not long after the Scottish Reformation of 1560; it opened its doors on Christmas Day 1620 and was plunged into tumult soon afterwards.
This was the site of a Franciscan monastery and after a series of acts passed by the Scottish Parliament in 1560 became the property of Mary Queen of Scots; although she fared ill, being imprisoned (including at Chartley in Staffordshire) before her martyrdom in 1587; Greyfriars, however, fared rather better despite its upheavals, and was the first new kirk to be founded in Edinburgh after the reformation.
In 1638 the National Covenant of Scotland was founded here; although couched in terms of defending church and state from the Catholic threat (as Presbyterians saw it), it contained a fairly obvious challenge to the ecclesiastical policies of Charles I (grandson of Mary Queen of Scots) who rightly or wrongly saw the Covenanters as a threat; he attacked Scotland in the Bishops’ Wars of 1638-40, but was defeated by the staunch resistance of the Scots to both military and ecclesiastical discipline, and by opposition from puritans in England who sided with their co-religionists north of the border.
This was one of the preliminaries to the British Civil Wars of 1642-49, which ended with Parliament decisively defeating the forces of Charles and executing him, leaving the Covenanters dominant in Scotland.
Things worsened for the Covenanters and the people of Greyfriars in 1660 when Charles I’s soon, Charles II, took the throne and began to settle scores; the Stuarts marshalled forced led by George “Bluddy” Mackenzie, who again decided to confront the Covenanters.
Mackenzie certainly fought effectively but was accused of cruelty; after the Battle of Bothwell Bridge, 1679, he imprisoned 1,200 in what was then a field in this area. Mackenzie is buried here, and it’s said that he caused so much hurt that he haunts his own mausoleum, together with his victims, who are distressed by his proximity to them; this is the basis for the Edinburgh City of the Dead Tours which end here, and are not for the faint-hearted but are exciting!
The Covenanters prevailed in the end of course, and after the Glorious Revolution of 1688-9 there was no serious threat to Presbyterian rule in Scotland, though many tried; Justified Sinner by James Hogg (buried here) is set amongst these times, and is in my opinion the best of all the Edinburgh books, though it was scary to listen to the audio version in the kirkyard at 5am one morning! (1 was taken at 6:18am on that September day in 2017, 2 and 3 slightly later that morning, the rest September 2018).
In the 18th century these threats subsided and Greyfriars expanded; after much of the Old Town was cleared and the New Town was sculpted by the mighty James Craig (1739-95), Greyfriars became the hub of the remaining Old Town and is still very well located, though in 1718 a bizarre accident at a local munitions dump caused part of it to be destroyed, and thus for centuries two congregations (Old Greyfriars and New Greyfriars) worshipped here!
Inside, we’re greeted by a simple, austere but very powerful church, dominated by (6) a pulpit from which the Word was mercilessly expounded; this is a different layout from my beloved Gothic Revival but I liked it, especially since the stained glass windows; they would have been anathema to the Covenanters, but were installed in the 19th century at the request of minister Robert Lee (1804-68) who resisted various pressures (he remained loyal to the established church after the Great Disruption of 1843 caused many to leave and set up the ironically named Free Church of Scotland).
After a fire in 1845 Lee oversaw what turned out, despite its naysayers, to be a very successful restoration, which has respected the austerity and solemnity of the 1620 project while adding some light, including (10) a memorial to scholar George Buchanan (1506-82), one of the intellectual powerhouses of Scottish learning in his time and an inspiration for future developments.
In 1900 most of the Free Church merged with the established church into the United Free Church of Scotland, and in 1929 most of this sect rejoined the Church of Scotland, to which Greyfriars has belonged throughout its history; in this spirit of unity, from 1931 to 1938 Henry Kerr oversaw a restoration which including tearing down the wall that had separated Old and New Greyfriars and bringing in the one congregation that worships today. While I (as if this wasn’t obvious) am more sympathetic towards the Catholic & High Anglican parties, I acknowledge the contribution Greyfriars has made down the ages.
Greyfriars continued to be a religious, cultural and political centrepoint, and still is; today it hosts a thriving church with services in English and Gaelic (after in 1979 it absorbed the former St John’s Highland Tolbooth, now The Hub) , a museum, and a sanctuary from urban life which clusters around the Grassmarket.
*Look it up

There are cases where fraudsters have made calls through WhatsApp and made similar claims. I indeed have two sets of elders, and many quantities are going to be spent icing their health is secure. I indeed have a 10- time-old son, who may be a soccer buff. “They informed me that my number was named during a lucky draw conducted by KBC which I had won a cash prize worth Rs 25 lakh.

Not at each, it had been surreal fully. So far, police have recorded 11 similar cases from across the city. Kumar acknowledges little or no of that cash remains. “Important of the cash was spent in erecting a house which I partake with my parents and 4 sisters. The show is clearly relatively just the cash. We're yet to take a seat and bandy, but we'll confirm that we also are ready to make a difference in the lives of individuals around us.
