top five moments from the rwrb movie!

Hi. I am once again cheating and this is 7. But also this was impossibly difficult.

1: The entire cake scene, but especially this little moment of Alex handing off his glass to a shocked Henry.

2: Alex and Henry in the hospital supply closet.

3: First kiss.

4. First hook up.

5. All of Paris, but especially this little moment of just breathing.

6. Zahra finding Henry in the closet.

7. Dancing at the V&A, but especially the exact moment Henry realizes Alex is making his teenage fantasy come true and Alex holds his hands and yeah (I am legit watching this right now so I gotta go focus but also this my actually be my fave scene in the whole movie. Yes it is.)

Do you think Mario's portrayal in the movie was a little too different from the games? I understand that they needed him to have a more well rounded personality, but I just can't help but wonder why they didn't make him more of a soul who is defined by having this sort of contagious positivity with a skip in every step. Think characters like Joy (Inside Out), Pinkie Pie (MLP), Steven Universe, Star Butterfly, Mabel Pines, Rapunzel (Tangled) and so on.

Mario of course still has a can-do determinator attitude about life, and he does still have his moments of excitement, but it's a lot more subdued. He spends a lot of the movie being rather irritable, somewhat impatient, and burnt out. Of course this can still happen to characters that are defined by being consistently upbeat and positive, but that's only when they hit very serious rock bottom moments.

Do you think the sequel should try and make Mario's personality a little more like his portrayal in the games or should they just stick with what they did for the first one?

I think a more happy-go-lucky Mario could work, hypothetically, but not with the backstory he was given in the movie, which leans pretty hard on him being an underdog in every sense.

The difference between Mario and all the characters you listed is Mario was neither sheltered, nor put in any position where he was encouraged to continually exhibit a bubbly, positive attitude.

Mario is a Brooklyn man who has just recently managed to work his way up from hard labor to blue collar, and has spent most of his life having his dreams and ambitions dismissed and put down.

He's by no means disillusioned with the world, but he's built up defenses to make sure everyone knows that neither he nor his brother are easy targets to be bullied or walked all over. He is optimistic, but he's swimming against the current, and it's worn him down. (Heck, judging by the concept art, it looks like there were plans to make him even more exhausted and despondent than he was in the final product.)

But now that Mario's in an environment that values his ambition and optimism, he's got room to develop into something closer to the Super Mario we're all familiar with. As much as I hope for some slight change in character between movies, I can't say I'd be too disappointed if he stays the same on account of how much I really really love Hothead Stressball McDaddyIssues Mario. But I'm banking on him being at least a good deal happier now that he's living in The Mushroom Kingdom.

It's a nice little mini-arc to give him in what was essentially Mario's origin story.

Did you know that archery uses a lot of the top muscles? That being said, I like to think that blue is actually quite top heavy from all the archery he does.

However, he has a sleeper build due to him preference for baggier and more comfy clothes

Emmet would be a very light silvery! Aaaaaaalmost white but not quite.

You’re on the right track too! Emmet would be made of moonlight- a much softer sort of light then Akari’s holy light!

I’ve actually played around with the idea of a reverse AU quite a bit and might write a fic about it after everything is said and done lol. Lemmie dig out my notes….

Key differences between changeling!Emmet and changeling!Ingo:

-Emmet carries around a lot less inherent angst. He doesn’t think he’s a good person- but he doesn’t really dwell on it. It’s just a fact of life in his eyes

- Emmet takes matching his brother verrrrrry seriously. He spent a good chunk of their early life bemoaning that he couldn’t be exactly like Ingo. Ingo eventually offered the mirroring thing as a compromise that Emmet accepted.

- Emmet swings wildly between- keeping human form up as long as humanly possible and refusing to switch back even if he’s long over extended himself (he wants to match Ingo, it’s unfair he can’t match Ingo all the time), to being in changeling form as much as he possibly can. (So he can be picked up and carried around. When he’s in moods like these Ingo will have to carry him home because he refuses to be human for longer then necessary)

- He likes being carried a lot a lot. Like, changeling!Ingo enjoys it immensely but changeling!Emmet will be a little brat about it and DEMAND to be carried around. Elesa jokes about him being lazy but it’s more about the extended contact

- Another difference is that he likes that he’s changing Ingo…. While also feeling pretty guilty for feeling that way. Ingo assures him that he is in no pain…. but sometimes Emmet worries. He’s not sure what he would do if he actually hurt Ingo.

- Probably is a lot stronger at night and weaker during the day- but the darkness of the subway tunnels help shield him from the sun

- how him and Ingo met is also completely different but I’ll save the exact specifics for later. Just know that they get adopted much younger in this AU ;)

...how did Uzi die in your Ghost Drone AU?

Oh my god. I never thought anyone would ask. I usually have thirty five facts about my AUs, and no one ever asks. This is going to be a simplified version, and I’m sorry if I sound insensitive about this.

Basically, some time after N and Uzi's wedding (probably around the same time they decided Let's Be Parents), Uzi got sick. Like, unusually sick for a drone.

Eventually, when she started coughing up red stuff and made things implode or melt with her powers whenever she tried to use them, they (which does include V) realized that The Solver had something to do with it.

The trio spent a good few months trying to figure out a way to either get rid of It or stop whatever It was doing completely, only to turn up empty handed. In the end, as It made Its final efforts to to take over her body, Uzi came up with one last plan: she would be killed, and her core would be destroyed.

And seeing as they split off from V during this particular search... that only left N to do it. Unfortunately, his laser cannon suffered a rare freak malfunction right in the middle of their heartfelt goodbyes, and nearly took them both out.

Of course, the plan succeeded. The Solver failed to take over her body, and is now seemingly gone forever. But of course, as N woke up in the medical wing days after the incident, he discovered their daughter had recently been booted up... and now, he's seeing ghosts.

SPOILER ALERT, Uzi (eventually) becomes one of those ghosts.

Ghost Drone!Uzi's redesign was actually handled by my buddy, @adragonenjoyer! They wanted to draw fanart for the AU, so we kinda geeked out over how she should look, and lo and behold, we've got Bluzi (yes i made ghost drones blue specifically for that pun)!

She's a bit more special than regular ghost drones, seeing as they're usually just drones but cyan, blue and white. They don't usually reflect how they died... and parts of their bodies don't usually float around like that, either! Plus, she can occasionally interact with inanimate objects! Sadly, that does mean she can't touch N anymore... but it won't stop them from trying!!!

(she unfortunately takes a bit longer to "manifest" as a ghost drone, too. just needed to give n four years of raising their lil baby on his own and beating himself up for failing his wife before i gave him something good... like his wife back!)
