Just a fun illustration for a Star Wars discord im on. This is younger Beru and little Luke. I love Beru. I want to know more about her and her time with Luke. And I want all the AU’s where she survives and Luke makes her proud.
#star wars#aunt Beru#lots of thoughts about her agreeing to raise a stranger’s child because this baby is Shmi’s grandson#and Beru Whitesun loved Shmi Skywalker#and would raise her grandson because she will fiercely guard his freedom#she deserved better#JUST LET ME LOVE HER

Actually. Also. 19.
Choose violence ask game
19. Best canon example of good parenting in Star Wars
Ah yes. You know me well. Buckle up everyone
In no particular order because I don’t think there’s a winner here:
Shmi “He Deserves More Than A Slaves Life” Skywalker. Anakin was literally the only thing she had in the universe. She taught him to care for others and stand up for what’s right. And she loved him enough to let him go. If Anakin had been able to follow her example regarding love the Galaxy would have been a different place.
Owen “He Is My Own” Lars and Beru “We’re Enough” Whitesun Lars. I could write an essay on them. They knew the risk, they knew the danger, and they took him in. More than that: they loved him. They taught him to work hard and do what’s right. They, too, loved him enough to let him go. Prolonging the inevitable as long as they could, sure, but weren’t going to hold him back from the life he wanted and squash his spirit by keeping him safe on the farm forever either (one more season!) They protected him and gave their lives for him.
Bail and Breha “You Are An Organa In Every Way” Organa.
In this house we stan Bail and Breha Organa. Far more than Owen and Beru could even begin to fathom they understood what was at stake. Bail witnessed the attack on The Temple with his own eyes and knew exactly what would happen if Leia was found. But he and Breha had already been fighting for what is right - been fighting the Empire before it was even formed. They were committed. And they raised Leia to continue that fight even after she had lost everything herself. They are the true embodiment of family being far more than blood and ironically, raised a daughter who would carry on the legacy of Padme and (Clone Wars General/pre fall)Anakin: Leia spent her life dedicated to the service of others and democracy and fiercely defended what is right.

Don’t mind me, just watching GIFs of Luke throwing away his lightsaber in ROTJ and reclaiming himself as a Jedi “like my father before me” and thinking about all the things that led him there and all the people who contributed to Luke making that decision. Yes, that decision was incredibly personal and speaks to how Luke has grown throughout the OT, and at the same time Luke himself would likely acknowledge that moment wouldn’t have been possible without everyone who has been a part of his life, who helped him get there. Some of whom he never even knew.
It’s a victory for Padmé Amidala Naberrie, whom Luke never knew but who managed to outmatch Sheev Palpatine so many times through her life, in part by refusing to play his game, which is exactly what Luke did here. Palpatine claims Luke’s faith in his friends is his weakness, but both he and his mother knew that it was a strength. Padmé’s friends (particularly Bail and Obi-Wan) are the reason the twins survived at all, the reason Luke had a sister and friend in Leia to lean on during his journey, the reason Obi-Wan survived long enough to watch over him and introduce him to the Force.
It’s a victory for Shmi Skywalker, whom Luke never knew but who influenced her stepson Owen Lars and her daughter-in-law Beru Whitesun Lars, who in turn helped Luke grow into the person he was. Yes, Anakin turned in part because he feared to lose Padmé the way he’d lost Shmi, just like Luke came close to turning when Vader threatened Leia, but I have to think that part of the reason Luke was able to stop was that he had that foundation of love and stability Owen and Beru had nurtured that made Luke remember who he was.
It’s a victory for the Jedi, whom Palpatine had manipulated and twisted and exhausted through the Clone Wars until by the time they faced genocide at Order 66 they were already a shadow of what they could have been. Luke reclaiming what it means to be a Jedi — and again, refusing to be defined by the structures and traps Palpatine had constructed for his father and for the other Jedi — would not have been possible without Luke being introduced to the Force by Obi-Wan, taught in the Force by Yoda, AND remembering himself through his bonds with other people. The fact that these Jedi who had survived a horrific genocide could still offer that connection, that hope, says that Sheev had not succeeded eliminating their light. Just like Sheev had not succeeded in eliminating the light in Anakin.
It’s a victory for all the beings with whom Luke was connected, because Luke had learned the thing his father struggled so hard to do: he learned to love, to trust, and to let go. At this moment, there was no guarantee Luke was getting out of there alive. In fact, a second later he’s being electrocuted by Palpatine and probably going to die. But like Luke said, Palpatine has already lost. Luke won’t turn to the Dark Side. He’ll keep trusting his friends, and trusting in the light. And everyone who has connected with Luke—Leia, Han, Chewie, Lando, his friends in the Rebellion, everyone — has been changed by that connection in a way that Palpatine can never take away. No matter who survives, that light in some form will survive.

@ anon with the lovely hospital AU, apologies for the delay i was chewing on this for a couple days haha there's a whole season of grey's anatomy primetime soap worthy material. i love how fully you've filled out the AU with characters and unspooled all the drama. i can see why it would be difficult to write, it does have a big scope of imagination there. thank you for sharing it with meeeeeee
for everyone 700 words of lovely obikin hospital AU worldbuilding, continued beneath the cut!!
Shmi is a renowned heart surgeon. Best there is in the country (not just the state thank you very much) and she did it all while her son was young. Her grandmother (Grandma Mira) and her two cousins (Peli Moto and Beru Whitesun ) both helped her out a ton. She is admired and Skywalker is a name very well known in medical circles.
She decided to became a heart surgeon when her own mother (insert name here) died from a heart issue that no one wanted to touch surgically. Anakin was 9 years old. Anakin has his mom up on a pedestal - she is perfect and smart, the best surgeon, the best mom, she’s done it all. Anakin feels the pressure to be just as good as his mom. People expect him to be just as brilliant and successful as his mother. He expects it from himself. Shmi just wants him to be happy. Anakin is ready to start his residency at 25. His mother is in line to be chief of surgery at the hospital she works at (Twin Suns Medical Center). Its considered the hospital to intern at if you want your specialty to be heart surgery. Anakin isn’t really sure what he wants to specialize in, and he doesn’t want people to say that he got it easy during his internship. So he goes to the next best thing (it’s actually the number one hospital overall in the country but to Anakin is second to the hospital where shmi works because Shmi works there). He goes to Jedi Coruscant General Hospital. Chief Executive officer (in charge of whole hospital) : Breha Organa Chief of Surgery : Bail Organa (general surgeon) Brain Surgeon (top brain guy in the country) : Obi-Wan Kenobi 4th year resident: Padme Amidala (Anakin’s assigned resident) Heart Surgeon: Mace Windu Trauma Surgeon: Shaak Ti Pediatric Surgeon: Plo Koon Neonatal Surgeon: Siri Tachi Plastic Surgeon: Quinlan Vos Orthopedic Surgeon: Qui-Gon Jinn Head of the hospital board: Mon Mothma Cancer surgeon: Jocosta Nu Eye Surgeon: Dooku Vascular Surgeon: Wolffe Yoda - retired chief of surgery and general surgeon Anakin’s cohort: Aayla, Ferus Olin, Rex, Jesse, Echo, Fives 4th Year Residents: Sabe, Clovis, Bly 5th year residents: Depa Billaba, Bultar Swan, Cody Anakin’s running late on his first day, in the parking lot he’s too distracted trying to make sure he has everything in his bag that he bumps into a red head and spills the red head’s hot tea all of his shirt. “shit. Fuck. Sorry. Sorry.” Keeps walking but turns around to walk backwards to meet the really pretty blue eyes of the definitely pissed off red head “I owe you. I’ll bring you a … a coffee? Was it coffee during lunch. Sorry!” Ferus Olin, a childhood nemesis makes his appearance. He’s assigned to be Padme’s intern (the woman who gave him back his engagement ring when he was 22 and 27. He hadn’t realized she was back in town and that maybe it was purposeful that he didn’t know). Its turning out to be a truly shit day and then the pretty red head from the parking lot makes his appearance and anakin wants to sink into the ground. But. The red head picks him to help him with a surgery. … Its pretty much a grey’s anatomy AU. Obi-Wan and anakin start hooking up pretty much immediately. Ferus Olin and Anakin make nice and turn out to be pretty decent friends. Then. Anakin realizes that Padme had kids, with him. The twins. And never told him. 🤯. That’s smoothed over. He’s a dad now. He loves it. Obi-Wan’a supportive. Their secret relationship is starting to not be so secret anymore. Then. obi-wan’s ex wife (Satine Kryze) pop in with a kid. obi-wan’s kid. Obi-Wan never told him that he’d been married or that he had a kid. They break up. Anakin thinks about quitting. Then about transferring. Then gets side tracked because Aunt Beru (his mom’s cousin) got married and her husband’s dad was in a bad car crash. Its all hands on deck to save his life. Shmi makes an appearance at the hospital and Obi-Wan realizes that Anakin is Shmi’s son 🤯 Owen’s dad makes it. Anakin and Obi-Wan make up. Their relationship is outted but everything works out. There’s other small and big dramas but thats pretty much it lol

Apparently my friend missed the part in the prequels where Anakin is introduced to Owen and the others, so they thought Beru was his sister and I can't stop thinking about it...
It could've worked so well if she had been Anakin's step-sibling instead of Owen. Picture this:
Beru's father, Cliegg Whitesun, married Shmi Skywalker, who became a loving mother for her. Owen Lars was her partner and eventual husband, though she kept her family name out of respect for her late father. This would better explain why she cared so deeply for Luke and was willing to raise him, since he was the last piece of family left for her.
Also "Whitesun" falls more in line with other Tatooine family names like Skywalker, Darklighter, Starkiller – so it would fit for the farm, which was presumably passed down over generations.
Beyond that, it could've also been such a fun parallel to the twins...
#star wars#beru whitesun#anakin skywalker#we might keep this one for the au since it would make luke using whitesun as an alias even better in the story#in another time au#ctrl+s

Read it on https://archiveofourown.org/works/53796844 by ajxvindr (siilverbullet) Leia was going to get married. There was no way Luke could ruin it... or there was a way? or simply put: in which Luke Skywalker is tipsy and end up dancing with a man he does not know the name nor his political connections and it could only end up in trouble when he fall right into the man's arms... in more ways than only literally. top 5 side characters?
this didn’t clarify from what media so. you get a whole collection
1. hytham assassin’s creed valhalla. he’s my guy of all time yes he has like five scenes counting generously yes he’s one of my favorite characters in the franchise. i think there’s so much there considering his relationship to his disability, to basim, to the raven clan, to evior. constructing my thesis on why he should have been a companion in all the city arcs and the romance and also in the final parts of the game. i can’t wait for him to not be in mirage at all 🤡
2. paz vizsla. i didn’t write a 40k fic about him for nothing. he’s my best friend who exists in my head bc i have refused to watch Mando 3 love and light
3. beru whitesun I LOVE HERRRR. dedicated mother and daughter of tatooine. thinking about the au where she’s anakin’s sister >>>>>
4. shmi skywalker. I love her I love to think about her she is a reborn ancient deity and a lesbian. to me.
5. deimos/alexios from odyssey. idk maybe It’s just because I’ve been replaying but. nothing gets me more than sibling narratives and like. I want him and Kassandra to be happy

The racists are trying to gotcha with the post about Shmi Skywalker actually having some sort of freedom in her death. But, I agree with you; after a lifetime of slavery, Cliegg Lars (affiliated with Beru Whitesun, who was an abolitionist) freed her, and *then* married her. She finally got to *choose* something for once in her life, and she chose to stay with him, even though he lived and worked in dangerous territory. It was tragic that she died, but even she said she died “complete.”
Funniest thing is that was a thinking-out-loud kinda post more than anything else. Spitballing. Seeing if an idea works. Not sure why anyone's getting that upset.
I mean, I've also said that I think Shmi pulled a shitty card in the narrative? Her onscreen time is so limited. AotC had to go at a breakneck pace to work in "she's free and she fell in love and she's a stepmother and she's happy and also she's dying" in about ten minutes. No wonder people struggle to figure out what the fuck happened with Cliegg.
...basically my issue seems to keep falling back to the way that people refuse to admit that the prequels have narrative issues that muddy their intent. Like, the movie itself never did a good job with Shmi in the first place. We can admit that and still like the movie. Literally nothing wrong with that.
The bar Shmi's death set was a low one, was sort of my whole point. She dies to serve Anakin's arc, but at least an unrelated in-universe maniac didn't hunt her down and kill her specifically to make Anakin feel bad. Satine's death is just such an appendage of Obi-Wan (and in particular Obi-Wan's heterosexuality, with her entire role of putting Obi-Wan in a more heteronormative light) that it's pathetic.

have u been sent miss beru whitesun for the character asks yet? or luke skywalker if u have
No I have not! But thank you she’s my beloved < 3
Favorite thing about them:
I always love a parental figure. Anyway she's aunt/mother of the year. Took Luke in no questions asked. Always had his back.
Least favorite thing about them:
Dies : (
Favorite line:
Ok I just laugh in a new hope when she’s like “luke has too much of Anakin in him” girl you met Anakin once
brOTP:
Absolutely fascinated by what her relationship with Shmi could be- of course they’d have a really good mother/daughter in law dynamic, I’d actually be really interested in it. I know there’s a little bit in the AOTC novelization. Oh, and Padme. Their lives are so completely different they don’t totally know what to make of each other. Peli Motto and her could be buddies too. Beru stops by whenever she’s in Mos Eisley.
OTP:
I don’t like, actively ship her with anyone but Owen’s fine she can keep her husband. Although I’ve also seen people ship her with Peli and no complaints there.
nOTP:
if there are weird beru ships out there I’m (almost) impressed with the star wars fandom. I don’t think there are but if I’m wrong ignorance is bliss ???
Random headcanon:
In a new hope you see all of these flowers and shrubs around the Lars ranch these are Beru’s and they’re her pride and joy
Unpopular opinion:
I don’t know if unpopular is the right word- but I’ve seen some really bad takes about her (and Owen.) Anyway they were good parents and you can’t blame them for keeping Obi-wan away, if he trained Luke in the force and it was discovered he could be killed
Song I associate with them:
Ooooooooh good question. I do not have a beru playlist yet but if I make one, The Killer’s Read My Mind and Mitski’s I Will would be on it.
Favorite picture of them:
Tatooine sunset at the end of Revenge of the Sith !
If anyone else wants to send me a character please do !

10 and 39 for star wars asks?
star wars asks!
10. Which character do you feel is most like you?
i project WAY too much on leia organa to answer anyone else for this question. i do tend to switch between luke and leia for which character i'm projecting on that day, which is why i love the twins so much, but i definitely clock more time crying about leia's relatability than i do about luke's, lmao.
39. If you wrote a 'fix-it fic', what would you write about?
oh. uh. yeah, there are so many options for this lmao. i guess it depends on what you categorize as "fix-it fics" -- are we changing major plot points, or do i just get to mess with minor details that i take issue with? because if we're changing entire movies, i'm definitely rewriting the entire sequel trilogy. but if we're keeping canon with only a few minor adjustments, here are some fics i'd write:
sabé (and the rest of padmé's handmaidens, if we're really getting self-indulgent) got involved in the rebellion in various ways. one of them was leia's childhood nurse and that's actually the face leia remembers as her [birth] mother's
anakin was 14 when the jedi first came to tatooine (i have a whole post about this but basically i think it makes the whole "being afraid of his anger" make more sense and really establishes his lifelong feeling of not belonging with the jedi)
yodito's name is something that isn't grogu. this is just me being picky but i think it should be something cuter, lmao
beru was the most influential force in luke's life, and instead of owen being shmi's stepson, beru was her adoptive daughter and owen was the random guy she married. in terms of names, luke grapples with what he wants "skywalker" to mean, dreams in scattered flashes of being called organa, and wears "whitesun" comfortably when he wants to be seen as his aunt's nephew and nothing else
(i don't have any minor changes to the sequel trilogy listed here because as soon as i started thinking about potential ones, i started getting angry about the whole thing. i probably wouldn't change any minor details of the sequel trilogy without changing the whole thing, honestly -- the canon form of those three movies just plain doesn't really interest me as something to edit.)
#sadbi-hours#star wars#luke skywalker (space hobo)#beru whitesun#sw ideas#sb and l rambles#sb and l answers#sb and l watches sw#i did not intend for this to turn into me talking about beru but i don't regret it lol

What is the difference between an Offer and a Request? Because it sounds like we’ll be fulfilling a request of whoever we’re matched with, so is the Offer the same as a Request? Sorry, I’m a little confused.
Hello there!
That's alright, we're glad you asked! It is indeed correct that participants will be fulfilling a minimum of one request of the recipient they are matched with, so no, an offer is not the same as a request.
In a sign-up, a participant's requests fulfill the function of letting their matched gifter know what sort of prompts they would like filled - the final product, which will be revealed on 11 September, will be the participant's gift. These requests let their gifter know what sort of work they'd like to recieve, but it is up to their gifter to create a work within the boundaries assigned to them (this is where DNWs are important).
Offers, on the other hand, fulfill the function of letting the moderators know what prompts they are willing to fill for whomever they are matched with as their recipient's assigned gifter. These offers are where the matching algorithm comes into play, to match what prompt a participant (the gifter) is willing to create with the same prompt another participant (the recipient) requested to see as a gift.
To create an example:
Participant A makes 3 requests and 3 offers.
-
A's requests are arranged like so:
Request 1) Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, Mace Windu, Plo Koon, Jedi Culture
"I really love how tightly-knit Jedi are! Something about Mace and Plo mentoring Obi-Wan somehow would be really cool"
DNW: Order 66, mean!mace windu
Request 2) Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) - All Media Types, Kit Fisto, Shaak Ti, Sheev Palpatine, Bad Weather, Hijinks & Shenanigans
"Being a High Councilor seems like a drag. I'd love to see something about Obi-Wan and other councilors being mischievous (and a little bit of annoying Palpatine, it's true)"
DNW: Order 66, Anakin Skywalker turning to the Dark Side
Request 3) Garen Muln, Feemor (Star Wars), Dexter Jettster, Accidental Baby Acquisition, POV Outsider, Team Bonding
"We don't get to see a lot about other jedi interacting with people on Coruscant, how about some shenanigans about Obi-Wan and his friends and lineage family while they're out on Coruscant?"
DNW: Jedi are child-stealers, major character death
-
A's offers are arranged like so:
Offer 1) Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, Breha Organa, CC-1010 | Fox, 212th Attack Battalion, Post-Zygerria Arc (Star Wars: Clone Wars), Post-Rako Hardeen Arc (Star Wars: Clone Wars), Worldbuilding
Offer 2) Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, Finis Valorum, Darth Maul, Yoda (Star Wars)
Offer 3) Star Wars: Master and Apprentice - Claudia Gray, any character, Angst with a Happy Ending, Animal Bonding via The Force
-
You see how A's requests and offers don't need to match? That's perfectly alright, because a participant *doesn't* need to request and offer the same things. Just because you'd like to see something particular in a gift doesn't mean you have to create it for your recipient!
Now we'll give an example of participant B. For the sake of the example, we'll assume A and B are matched (A as the gifter to B), and that B signed up with 4 requests and 3 offers.
-
B's requests are arranged like so:
Request 1) Star Wars: The Bad Batch (Cartoon), Wrecker (Star Wars: The Bad Batch), Bets & Wagers, Canon Divergence - Order 66
Request 2) Star Wars Original Trilogy, Shmi Skywalker, Beru Whitesun, R2-D2 (Star Wars)
DNW: Beru and Owen dying
Request 3) Star Wars All Media Types, 501st Legion (Star Wars), Bruck Chun, Jocasta Nu, Time Travel
Request 4) Star Wars: Master and Apprentice - Claudia Grey, Bruck Chun
-
B's offers are arranged like so:
Offer 1) Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), Bail Organa, Lyra Erso
Offer 2) Star Wars: The Bad Batch (Cartoon), Depa Billaba, Kanan Jarrus
Offer 3) Star Wars: Rebels, Ahsoka Tano (SW Rebels), CT-7567 | Rex (SW Rebels), Role Reversal, Rescue Missions
-
If you compare A and B's sign-ups, you'll notice that A's offers match only one of B's requests - Request 4, via fandom (Master and Apprentice), as well as "any character" matching to... any character, in this case "Bruck Chun".
-
I put some disparities between A and B's sign-ups to illustrate a few things.
1) That A and B need not be a complete match in all of A's offers and all of B's requests
2) That sign-ups can carry an uneven number between requests and offers
3) That B need not match to A, wherein B would be A's gifter in reciprocation to A being B's gifter
4) That a participant can really only match on one thing, which displays AO3's least common to most common algorithm
5) That checking "any character" really does mean *any character* - so only click it if you're sure about the fandom!
6) That you can - at least for this exchange - request the same character in different fandoms (Bruck Chun in Master and Apprentice, as well as All Media Types)
7) That a DNW can be used for individual requests, instead of the whole set of requests in a sign-up, and that they can differ per request.
-
TL;DR - Offers are what you're offering to create as a gifter, requests are what you're requesting your gifter make for you. Only one request need match to one offer!
We hope that helps, and please feel free to come back to us if you have more questions!
