( AISHA DEE, twenty four, cis female, she/her ) – ann turner known to project icarus as a class two promethean with the power of telekinesis. they’ve chosen to join the neutrals because she's a reporter so she tries to be objective at all times. they’ve been described as +audacious & +persistent. i’d watch out though, because they’re also known to be -turbulent & -candid, which is probably why they’re referred to as the lioness
so this got long.
i present to you, a Queen
ann likes to divide her life in the before and the after. because she’s that Exta™
she was born in the before, somewhere, and the before was marked by temporary decisions which lead to temporary consequences. she’s the youngest child of a flight nurse and an EOD technician, and spent most of the before EVERYWHERE. from japan to guam to bossier city, louisiana
being the progeny of two active air force members meant that she would often have to rely on only one parent, or none - sometimes she and her older sister daisy were sent away to relatives’ or family friends’ houses for periods of time
that forced her to grow up a little too young. she just had to be aware that the people she loved would often leave, and that they were in danger, and learn to make the best of it anyway
as if for consolation, at least ann mostly grew up on-base, emerged in the military world and surrounded by other children with the same concerns and temporary lifestyles
it was a community, but it was fleeting and eventually someone would be relocated or the turners would
the constant need to reintegrate in haste guaranteed that she would always have friends scattered around the world, but didn’t allow for the deep connections she so craved for. can’t win em all
her sister daisy was her HERO okay so she was quite a few years older but ann looked up to her so much. they were very different in personalities though, which is not something she usually lets pass. like ann prefers to befriend people with more domineering loud personalities because that way she never has to hold herself back, but it didn’t matter with daisy because daisy was awesome
teachers used to praise her for her really high grades and involvement in school projects and sports. she was a lacrosse player hell yeah but also, you need some event organized? who u gonna call? ANN TURNER [ghostbusters soundtrack]
ann is amy santiago levels of organized. she too has a favourite font. lives for binders. color codes everything. has a really organized planner.
but also, she was super involved with school newspapers. and oh boi do i mean involved. teachers were expecting reporting on school events and interviews with some kids or teachers, but ann wanted a long investigative piece on how the school could have been saving money this whole time to invest on new chairs and didn’t bc they valued sports more. shame on them.
she probably got forbidden to publish some stuff at certain points and just made some homemade school newspapers. secretly distributed them. black market newspapers, freedom of speech yo
teachers, however, weren’t really impressed by her troublemaking tendencies and unfiltered responses. she could be a bit too much. “a well-rounded student with a personality in need of improvement” could be the official quote. or just “she’s smart but istg someone get this hell child out of my classroom SAM I DIDN’T SIGN UP FOR THIS’
then came the after (™), not with a bang but subtly, lurking in plain sight for years until everyone became too tired to pretend it wasn’t there. when ann was 13 her parents got divorced. her father, to whom the military had always been a temporary career path, decided to rejoin the civilian world right after it, and ann eagerly joined him
she was just so excited to experience the great wide world from the inside. plus she had always been closer to him than to her mom so
ann didn’t consider how permanent her decision would be. how long lasting it’s consequences would be. permanent just wasn’t something she could understand
the pair moved to D.C., his home city, and lived as if they were running out of time, frantically trying to catch up to the lives they could have had. he became an elementary teacher. she tried to love stability
her sister never joined them. by then she was already in the north, in college, and after graduation mostly stuck there. daisy became a reporter and once again her hero status for ann was confirmed
her mother treated the separation from her daughter as a long deployment, mostly keeping in touch and having a say with big decisions, but never actually being there. ann can’t pin down when exactly she stopped caring about that. it’s just a product of living in the after; situations become permanent more often than not and people adapt, grow around it.
ann is such an overachiever. she got into college when she wasn’t even seventeen years old, graduated just before twenty. she likes to get through with things fast and efficiently. but that also leads to her missing some important stepping stones and falling on her face sometimes
:)) daisy went missing when ann was 16. after excruciating years of research and investigations, the most obvious conclusion authorities could give the turners was that daisy was digging into something she’s been explicitly told not to, and paid the price for it. it was a national scandal, bringing back light into the realities of dangerous journalism at times
the family never recovered from it. ann, especially, still holds on to hope. and she isn’t a hopeful person. she is always ready to accept and deal with harsh realities, but not with this
ah what did she do then? got a masters in investigative journalism. because why the hell not amiright
in fact, moved to new york just like her sister. fuck it
it’s not easy being her pal. it’s not like she isn’t kind…. it’s just that it’s never a priority. ann prides herself in her moral code. she believes in truth and in how it provides fairness. the truth doesn’t need to be good or bad or pretty, just fair. that’s what she aims for. not to be good, or bad (she does aim to be pretty), but fair
sometimes candor doesn’t allow for kindness
ann is practical, often over-simplifying emotions so that she can move forward and go back to her fast-paced life, consisting of overworking herself, debating her way out of situations and making an effort to drink less coffee
the latter is still a work in progress
ann has a problem with …. neutrality. she wants to be so objective because it’s like requirement #001 for the job, but she has some very strong opinions and is not afraid to share them. so she shoots herself in the foot a LOT of times
aaaand then the comet happened
ann rose from the ashes with only one purpose. document it. and she did. she was making voice recordings and videos. wrote down everything she could remember from the way they were handled by the government. it didn’t even register with her that she too had been in that incident tbh
life after getting powers isn’t the after because, just like everything now, it’s permanent. she has accepted it, and while she’s trying to fight back her urgency to just run away from it and new york and everything really, she’s trying to grow around it. adapt
she rarely uses them. it’s not that she hates her powers, but she doesn’t want to open that door. when she does, she know she can’t come back. so they’re veeery underdeveloped
in fact, she doesn’t even talk about them a lot. she just wants to be so neutral in this whole discourse, but she can’t
both sides have repeatedly tried to recruit her, since she has ties to the two because she needs her Sources, but so far she’s doing an okay job of standing her ground and being unreachable. she’s just here for the facts.
ann’s research is many times ignored by the newsroom she works for, so she’s found alternative ways to spread some facts. she has a website full of not that well known information about the powered people and the two sides, and is constantly doing independent research on all of that
the only thing she has perfected with her powers is taking the right binder out of the shelf, and opening it on the right tab with her mind. everything else is still a little messy, just not uncontrollable
she’s a nerd. like used to write fanfic and only doesn’t anymore because she’s busy. cosplays every year. anyone who says one word about it will regret it for the rest of their lives
loves to refer to herself in the third person
is very conflicted between wanting to be a trophy wife and wanting to have a trophy wife
ann also has that Gryffindor Stupidity™ and is always doing dangerous shit because it makes her feel alive. definitely an adrenaline junkie
the ultimate red wine aunt
someone bring her to a side, she won’t last long as a neutral

B.C. ‘will be tested’ as Washington state COVID-19 outbreak spreads: provincial health minister
Health Minister Adrian Dix says British Columbia “will be tested in the coming weeks” as an outbreak of COVID-19 across the border in Washington state grows.
As of Monday, six people had died of the virus in Washington, where a state of emergency is in effect.
“We have profound connections … both individual and family and community and business with Washington state. Obviously our hearts go out to them,” said Dix.

“It’s why we’ve been testing so many people in British Columbia, it’s in order to track down, to isolate, to slow down the impact here in B.C.”
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) officers are trained as quarantine officers, and will be screening travellers at the land borders.
“There’s not a formal process like we have for people who are coming in from Iran or whatever, but it is a program where there’s enhanced awareness and messaging,” she said.
That process for screening travellers from Iran is also being enhanced, Henry said. Like passengers from China, asymptomatic travellers arriving from Iran will be asked to self-isolate for 14 days, while travellers showing symptoms could be quarantined she said.
Henry went on to say that despite the growing outbreak across the border in Washington, B.C. remains focused on containment and is confident the virus is not being transmitted person to person in the province.

“They have some cases now that have arisen in the community where they do not yet know where the link is, how they became infected, that’s a challenging situation to be in,” Henry said.
“There’s not widespread community transmission in Washington state, and certainly not here in B.C. and we’re confident in that.”

B.C. remains at eight confirmed cases of COVID-19, and has tested more than 1,000 people for the virus. Four of those patients have fully recovered.
Henry said the province had broadened its testing criteria to include people who are in hospital for respiratory issues but have tested negative for influenza.
She said the province’s lab network that tests for influenza outbreaks has also been tasked with screening samples for COVID-19.
At least two of the deaths in Washington have been linked to a nursing home in Kirkland.

More than 10 schools in the Seattle area were closed for deep cleaning over virus concerns, although the city-county public health department said it was not yet recommending school closures or cancellation of activities.
The U.S. has now recorded more than 100 cases of the virus in 11 states, some of them returnees from the virus-riddled Diamond Princess cruise ship.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Infection stopped reporting how many people had been tested on Monday.

Dix and Henry’s comments came following a weekend of reports of people descending on big box stores to stockpile goods and non-perishable foods out of concern the virus could get worse.

Last week, federal Health Minister Patty Hajdu said people should consider stockpiling food and medicine in case of a potential outbreak of COVID-19, despite the relatively low risk of contracting the disease within Canada.
“I don’t think we’re at that stage yet,” said Dix, when asked if stockpiling supplies was necessary.
Kyle Belich, store manager of a Burnaby Super Valu supermarket, said business has been brisk, with people focusing on toilet paper, bottled water and dry goods.

“It’s crazy, it’s nuts,” he said.
Belich said his store was trying to order product to ensure it doesn’t miss out when larger outlets get restocked.
“If we don’t stock up now, places like Superstore and Walmart and Costco, they’re going to draw the main supply so the little guys like us sometimes we might get shorted just because it always goes to the big guys first.”

Chris Chiew, general manager of pharmacy for London Drugs said the chain has been out of stock of hand sanitizer, gloves and N95 masks since the coronavirus outbreak started.
“When that does come in, they do sell out immediately,” he said.
But he said the company was having no trouble keeping other items on the shelves.
“Our buyers have been really good at actually looking to make sure the stock levels are good at our distribution centre,” he said.
“When we do see an increase in sales at a particular store, they will increase the amount being sent to that store so they’re not out of stock.”

On Monday, the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education said it was postponing a March conference in Vancouver amid concerns about possible spread of the virus.
The event was expected to draw about 2,500 people.
Vancouver’s Rugby Sevens tournament scheduled for next weekend at BC Place will go ahead as planned.
Dix said as of Monday, containment of the virus remains the province’s top priority, though wider pandemic planning is ongoing in the background.

He said the province is encouraging anyone who feels they may have been exposed to the virus to contact their health care provider, and that officials remain focused on back-tracing possible contacts and isolating anyone who may have been exposed.
But he said the biggest piece of the response will remain in the hands of B.C. residents.
“It sounds like we’re repeating ourselves,” he said.
“Wash our hands, stay home when you’re sick, stay home from school, stay home from public events, stay home from visiting people in long term health [facilities] and hospitals.”
