Generally released animation looks its worst this year, and the Beauty and the Beast remake certainly doesn’t help, so it’s a good thing (for us, at least) that Anime Limited and Manga are working together on a once-a-month strategy to bring current anime releases as well as a 20th anniversary re-release of Perfect Blue to select, big-name cinemas across the UK as alternatives to crass Hollywood junk. In This Corner of the World, Napping Princess and Lu Over the Wall, for example, are slated to compete with Despicable Me 3, The Nut Job 2 and The Star. This trend kicked off with last year’s release of Makoto Shinkai’s masterpiece Your Name, which will open in the States next week to save us all from Smurf terror. So mark your calendars, obviously.

Aesthetically Pleasing Anime Movies

The mentions below are a combination of beautiful visuals animation movies that had captured an immediate attention due to its fresh and appealing color choices and drawing-styles; yet, still intrigued the audience with a unique plot. Before you check out the list, keep in mind that I did not forget any of Studio Ghibli productions. I think every project in Ghibli is so special that I feel I need to make a separate post, don’t you agree? Plus, I want to give a shout-out to other animes. Can someone please explain what the fuck happened in this film (please do not actually do this)

I sometimes think to myself, psht, I’m following this plot, it’s obvious, but this time around no, no I have no idea what happened and I can barely thread it together. I don’t know what’s real and what isn’t and the movie doesn’t seem to care either way, so I guess I shouldn’t either?

Early on it feels a lot like two totally seperate films being shown at once - when it started and the name Ancien and the Magic Tablet came up I assumed we were watching a short to be shown before the main feature, a la any Pixar film - and then they start to merge and it just becomes super confusing and argh Christ what happened??

Why is the teenage male character in this film at all he basically serves no purpose other than to ride a bike for a bit and basically just make sense of everything that’s going on even though he later just goes “nah I got nothing mate”

It looks quite beautiful and some of the designs are quite eye-catching but for the most part it feels like a pretty generic anime. Except for the part where it literally doesn’t make any sense.

Sorry if I sound like a broken record here but for real though.

So i just watched Patema Inverted and it’s so good and I have never heard anyone talk about this movie before so here I am recommending this movie to you

Hulu Japan announced that the "Ancien to Mahō no Tablet ~Mō Hitotsu no Hirune Hime~" (Ancien and the Magic Tablet ~Another Napping Princess~) short anime will have two parts that will debut on March 10 and March 17, respectively.

The story will be a spinoff of Ancien and the Magic Tablet (Hirune Hime: Shiranai Watashi no Monogatari), the new anime film by director Kenji Kamiyama.

Ahhhhh this was such a cute movie. I mean for me at least. And it was so funny too. It has a bit of everything and I really liked it. I definitely wanna watch it again! I can't believe the director flew FROM JAPAN TO COME TO THE US PREMIERE LIKE OMG.
