The reason for Anastasia Shabotova’s abscence at Worlds has been announced - she has been expelled from the Ukrainian National Team. She previously liked a pro-invasion post that was posted by Evgeni Plushenko on Instagram.

NEBELHORN TROPHY

Nebelhorn Trophy is the final qualifying event for the 2022 Winter Olympics. For more information on the qualification process for the Winter Olympics, see these posts. The number of Olympic spots available to be earned at Nebelhorn is: 7 men, 6 women, 4 ice dance, 3 pairs. A federation can earn up to one spot in each discipline.

Spots are allocated based on highest placements at the competition for skaters who are competing to earn a spot for their federation. Skaters who are not competing for Olympic spots may also participate in Nebelhorn Trophy. Their placements are disregarded for the purposes of spot allocation. In the entry list, skaters marked with “N” are not competing for Olympic spots.

2022 Beijing Olympics - Team Event Review - Remining Countries

In contention for a medal: None.

Georgia, Germany, Ukraine, and the Czech Republic all have only one entry in each discipline so it makes predicting their strategy easy :)

Team Georgia

Realistically the only country out of the four that has a chance to finish top 5 and to qualify for the FS segment. All four of their entries can perform well and if any country underperforms, Georgia it right there ready to take over.

Beautiful spins as always but her Skating Skills and her edges after the jumps are still as average as if she was junior. The pre-rotation is still very bad and hopefully she remains healthy despite the bad technique and copy-paste programs

Oh, shame about Nastya Shabotova’s short program :((. I loved her and this particular program so much in the team event! Really wish it would have worked out just as well for her here. And I wonder how much the stress of the entire situation (especially her particular situation) got to her.

I can’t quite fault her for attempting the 3A, but the German commentators made a good point about how it would have made more sense to risk it in the free skate where you have nothing to lose and focus on skating clean and reaching that free skate in the SP.

Nice Double Axel. Nice Triple Flip. Nice spin. Nice Triple-Triple, though a bit shaky on the first jump. Nice step sequence. Nice ending spins.

That was a great performance from Anastasiia Shabotova of Ukraine! That was about as good as she can do, I think. No Triple Axel attempt from her, but I heard she is struggling with an injury had a really out of sorts practice earlier, so it was probably best for her to just go for clean - and she did. 

Ukraine not in the mix for the free, of course, but she can play spoil for other countries.
