Cry For Help

Spoiler: This is an excerpt from an unnamed fanfic

Kix shows up at the door only minutes later, looking breathless like he ran most of the way and radiating an obvious level of anxiety and uncertainty he’s radiating.

“Kix? Did something happen?” Anakin inquires.

“I saw Fives,” he explains, breathlessly.

What?

“Where?” Rex demands.

“Is he alright?” Anakin asks. Well, as alright as he can be if he has potentially permanent brain damage. He still doesn’t want to think about that part of it.

“I don’t know,” Kix replies, frowning, “But I ran into him at the clone bar. He was there to give me a message. He wants you two to meet him at these coordinates so he can explain what happened and he’s requesting that you come alone.” He shows them coordinates – it’s somewhere in Coruscant’s underworld. Not a place Anakin’s familiar with, but he knows it’s a good area to hide.

Why does this feel like an exact repeat of what happened with Ahsoka?

All he can do is desperately hope it’s not going to have a similar ending. It’s still hard to fathom that she’s gone, the last moments of their conversation before she walked away replaying on repeat through his mind, even if he knows it’s probably better for her if she is away. The war was always hard on her. But he doesn’t even know where she is out there, or if she’s down in the underworld right now struggling to survive.

But he needs to think about Fives right now, much as Ahsoka’s absence is a constant ache inside of all of them.

“We’re going immediately,” Anakin decides, standing.

Rex nods, moving for the door. “Why doesn’t he just turn himself in?”

“He said what he’s involved in goes all the way to the top and what he has to say will never get to you if he doesn’t talk to you directly,” Kix replies.

Anxiety twists inside of him. That… He doesn’t know what that means, if there’s something to that or if he’s just delusional.Should he tell the investigator about this? Fives did ask them to come alone, though, and Anakin trusts there’s a reason for that, even if he’s cautious. There has to be something of Fives still in there. He’s asking to explain. Anakin’s not going to get other people involved until he can talk to him first.

Kix wakes up in a different world. He wakes to a world where the Clone Wars are a distant memory, and all his brothers are dead. He wakes to a world where his General is hardly even remembered as the good man he once was. But he's not alone in this new world. When he wakes, it's also to a familiar ghost at his side.

wasn't gonna post these, but since it will be a while before I can draw for myself again, here's the coloured sketches of the next SW illustrations I'd prepped up, this time random moments set during the Clone Wars

Then there are the whispers of a clone frozen in stasis. A medic trying to save his brothers, only to wake up and realise he is the last, all his brothers are gone. They are just rumours. No one's sure if they are true or not, until one day.

One day where Kix sitting in a cantina in the outer rim, where he sees a group of people gathered around a holo. He pays no mind to it at first, that is, until he hears someone say a familiar name. A name he hasn't heard spoken out loud in a long time. A brothers name.

So he gets closer, and he sees what the group of people are looking at. It's the photo. The photo that Rex had hanging on the wall of his office, the one of him, Fives, Echo and Cody. The photo that Fives always said made him and Echo Rex's favourites. Kix remembers that holo, he remembers the battle when it was taken. Remembers it was just after Fives and Echo had gotten back from Arc training. Remembers that he was just behind the camera, waiting to chew Fives out; because 'even if you have ARC training now. It doesn't mean that you can go and do stupid risky shit all the time trying to impress the shinies.'

Kix is drawn from the memories of ghosts when he feels someone tap him on the arm. It's a young girl with big blue familiar looking eyes, and she says that she thinks it cool that he looks exactly like the brave soldiers she learnt about in school. She asks him if his grandfather was a clone, if he knew any clones, if he's heard any stories of the clones. Kix stares at the girl for a moment, thinking about another girl with curious blue eyes, before he answers her. He tells her that he is a clone, that he has so many stories that he can't even count them.

With wide eyes, the girl drags him closer to the holo and pointing at it asks him if he knows the clones in the photo.

And Kix, looking at the holo, thinks of the old mando'a that they used to say; Ni su'cuyi, gar kyr'adyc, ni partayli, gar darasuum. 'I'm still alive, but you are dead. I remember you, so you are eternal.'

So he tells the girl.

He tells her how they were his brothers. He tells her how he was apart of the 501st. He tells her how they fought for freedom. He tells her how they were always finding ways to laugh during the war. He tells her how they adopted the jedi into their family. He tells her how no matter how bad things got the clones knew they would be okay as long as they had eachother. He tells her their names.

The more stories he tells the more people listen. And word spreads. The Clones are not all gone. There is one left. And he's telling the stories of the clones, the stories that, when there where millions of clone alive no one wanted to hear. But they want to hear them now, they want to know the clones now. They want to know the worriors that fought for freedom and laid down the foundations for everything after. They clones story may be a tragedy, but it will not be forgotten.

The Vode will be remembered.

Ahsoka is so fucking good at sketching. She likes just curling up on a chair and sketching whoever is sitting across from her. She has a lot of Anakin sketches on post-it notes. She sticks them of R2, and they disappear. She has no idea where they end up, and she won't ask.

She has a lot of sketches of Rex and the 501st. One day, Rex asks her why she sketches them all individually when they have the same face. She looks at him appalled and explains that maybe they look similar, but they all have different mannerisms that she can emphasise in her sketches. He doesn't understand until she lays out six sketches. One of him, one of Fives, one of Dogma, one of Echo, one of Kix, and one of Tup. They all look different. Rex has to turn away and take a breath to compose himself.

Fives: What's the matter with you?

Echo: nothing

Fives: You've been all broody since last night. *gasp* since jesse brought y/n a drink at 79's!!

Echo: *shocked* I'm done with this conversation!

Echo: *speed walking away*

Fives: *chasing after him* Echo! Echo! Stop or I'll scream!

Echo: *sighs and turns around*

Fives: do you like y/n?

Echo: *flabbergasted* you're just projecting!

Fives: no, if I was projecting, I'd say, "do you love y/n?" Cuz I love y/n. I said "like".

Echo: *as red as the lava on Mustafar* I- why would you- you sound ridiculous!

Echo: *runs away*

Summary:

The clones haven’t left her since once since they found out about her pregnancy, not with the very real threat that Palpatine could pose to her and her baby. Anika doesn’t mind it. They’re protecting her, not babying her, and she’s just grateful to have a place she belongs, and a family she can call her own. They’ll stay together through everything, even the rise of the Empire.
