Nick and Charlie watching the Doctor Who Christmas special at Christmas...
And not just any Christmas special, but The Runaway Bride.
The Doctor and Donna.
David Tennant and Catherine Tate at their finest.
Well done, Heartstopper.
Well done, indeed.

I can’t stop thinking of how despite it baffling most non-brits, and most of the Hollywood a-list audience, David Tennant decided to do a skit on his little lockdown rpf show, make a bunch of puns that only people familiar with British culture would get, wear a kilt and be his usual manic self when hosting an internationally prestigious award show
fucking power move

a few things i appreciated about the much ado about nothing with dt and ct:
very much enjoyed that they both exhibit loser-behaviour. that is, there can be a risk in this play of making beatrice too right and benedick just someone who's gotta level up to deserve her, but this one really allowed both of them to be brilliant as well as stupid, which is fun because it makes both of them more complex and equal to one another + I think it's fun for an actress to be a little silly sometimes and this role really allows for it, and especially an actress like catherine tate to be familiarly hilarious, which makes the parts where she's deadly serious hit all the harder
I feel like with the doctor and donna, yes it's text that they're not sexually or romantically attracted to each other and I am so very into that of course, but I'm just so happy to see proof that they could shift their tension a little to the left and be pretty damn sizzling -- this especially because donna was a couple of years older than rose and martha and I sometimes feel like people who read romantic and/or sexual context into things do so because they're reading a conventional early-20s youthful sexiness to the female characters. so just having them go "we can be very very sexy with each other if we so desire" was fun
several people have pointed out david tennant in a skirt vs catherine tate in a suit, and i will do so as well, specifically because that was so veeeery t4t bisexuality of them, and i feel like there was a deliberate choice in the party scene to make the audience think about femininity and masculinity as it pertains to sexuality and power, specifically through the lens of these two characters and their equal status with one another. it means that when we get to the more direct confession at the failed wedding, when beatrice is wearing a plunging blue dress and benedick is in full uniform, that feels directly juxtaposed -- the costuming deserves its whole own analysis really, and i'm sure someone's done that, but specifically those two scenes make my brain go brrr
the way it moved from comedy to drama and back again so effortlessly. the way it placed emphasis on certain words in order to give sentences new meanings. simply the general feeling of very deep, deliberate engagement with the text
catherine tate's boobs. they did those costumes like that on purpose, you cannot convince me otherwise

On a side note David Tennant is so brave for not diving off the stage headfirst because even if I were as good as David Tennant I would still vomit if known-scary-intense-guy Michael Sheen was in the audience of my play watching me.

my opinion on "straight people playing gay/bi/aspec/etc characters" is that they're 100% allowed to do it without any question and my opinion on "cis people playing trans/nonbinary/etc characters" is that they can do it if they slay hard enough

Got to the end of The Writer's Tale, and was feeling kind of emotional about everything (while simultaneously chuckling over the thought that oh, boy, you think it's over, Russell? You think you've turned in your last DW script? I am shouting down the line from 2024 and have I got news for you). Anyway, I flipped a couple pages forward from there into the supplemental photos, some of them from the set, some promo photos, all that, and...then there's a completely gratuitous behind-the-scenes photo from The Christmas Invasion of David Tennant in sunglasses and what looks like the pajama bottoms from his costume in that episode. You notice I'm not mentioning the top. It is not present.
Because sure. Might as well add that into the book.
Why not.
Of course, now I kind of wish we'd gotten that version of the sword fight.
(Also gotta love the photo of Phil Collinson leaping onto a table in a restaurant in Rome because there was a rat. Come on, Phil, you might be insulting the chef!)
eta: Having called it gratuitous, I will now gratuitously include a screencap. You're welcome.

David Tennant stroking another man’s hair, flirting with Alex Brooker, singing about a vibrator, wearing that wig and dancing and swinging his hips like that and finally, MICHAEL SHEEN MENTION. Bragging about being above Michael in the Dilf list like a little brat like WOW he’s about to get his ass spanked tonight
I am honestly so living for David bringing out his bratty bottom side, which I feel like is a side we don't get to see nearly often enough...
Tumblr media
(Also, for those who haven't seen the full video of David's appearance on TLL, you can watch it on Youtube here.)
I know the moment in the gif above is supposed to be him as Gwyneth Paltrow, but all I was getting was campy, bisexual British Kurt Cobain, right down to the jumper (which oddly does look like something Kurt would've worn in the grunge era). And we can't remotely overlook the fact that David was wearing rainbow/pride gear from head to toe tonight, from the rainbow buttons on his shirt (you can see them under the jumper) to the Tardis trans pride flag pin all the way down to his rainbow socks...
Tumblr media
And then, of course, there was the Michael mention. At this point, it honestly feels like whatever is happening between them is a big open secret (at the very least, I have a strong feeling the host Adam knows, and probably also Josh Widdicome), because it is impossible anymore to have one on as a guest without bringing up the other. In this case, it almost felt like the DILF of the Year competition was another excuse to mention Michael, and then to see David fully preening over outranking him was just...beyond glorious.
As to the aforementioned spanking, I fully concur with you. There's something in particular about this show, knowing that it was filmed live, and it's almost as if David behaved as bratty as he did because he knew a certain Welshman would be watching (giving very similar vibes to when David was on the Late Late Show in 2021). I can already so clearly picture the exchange between them after this (hopefully immediately after, since Michael is still in London and David could readily have gone to see him once the taping ended)...
"I'm more DILFy--DILFy, is that a word? Hmm--than you, Michael. According to the Internet people, that is." "Mmh. Yes, the all-wise, all-knowing Internet people." "You don't agree?" "Brat." "Ah, but you love me." "Don't think I could stop if I wanted to." "So you don't mind that the Internet thinks I'm more of a DILF than you?" "I think I'm the one who gets to fuck you, so the Internet can get bloody stuffed." "Funny, I was rather hoping I'd get stuffed right about now." "Cheeky slag. Turn around and take your trousers off." "You're so easy, Michael." "Shut up, Dai."
So yes, David's appearance on The Last Leg tonight was certainly quite something. I truly love seeing that part of him come alive, the part that he once spoke of in an interview where he talked about being a little boy and putting a towel on his head to entertain his classmates. I think deep inside, David has never stopped being that little boy, and there is something so special about seeing that part of him getting to be free.
Definitely hoping as well that we might get to see/hear Michael's reaction to all of this, but he still seems a bit quiet on Twitter these days (and if he's busy spending long nights with David, one can hardly blame him). I suppose we'll just have to see what happens...

I just can't stop thinking "Just how many "good" men like John Halder were so brainwashed into believing the Nazis were doing nothing wrong" and "how many people are now brainwashed into thinking that Israel is doing nothing wrong". Gosh! The history is so repeating itself and so many people are still trying not to believe or just aren't aware that this is a genocide.

Guys I don’t have a thing for Micheal sheen or David Tennant okay.
I just appreciate everything they do so much and love them so much as people that I have the urge to give them the biggest hug known to man and possibly cry while doing it.
