Oh, hi!
Top 5 right now or of all time? Who knows, I think I'll do a mix and I'm also going to skip both Joker Out and Måneskin, because that would be too boring! Let's get some other music recs in here instead!
Not in any particular order:
Electric Callboy Y'all, if you don't already know and listen to EC I don't know what to say. They recently released a cover of Everytime we touch and if you haven't heard it do yourself a favor and go listen to it right now.
An Abstract Illusion If you followed me back in August and September last year when they released their second album after 6 years of silence, you're probably still sick of me raving about them. But these guys are so good, I'm so proud of them and I'll never stop praising them. The genre? Don't let this scare you but here we go; Ambient and atmospheric progressive blackened melodic death metal, or something like that. I, personally, would put a lot of weight on the ambient and atmospheric parts, their music is an experience. The new album, Woe, is written as a 1 hour song divided into seven tracks and I'll listen to that as a form of meditation, I get completely lost in the music.
Sonata Arctica My power metal roots. I talked about my love for them in some tags the other day. They saved my life. Period. I would not be who I am today without them, they helped me open so many doors in my life. Listening to Tallulah still brings me right back to 14 year old me crying in English class when I first discovered them.
Avantasia More power metal created by the one and only Tobias Sammet, love of my life. It's a metal opera project with tons of guest singers and all albums are concept with stories running through them, it's just great. Honestly, they're pretty much the only band I kept up with even during my dark years of not listening to music. I share my love for this band with my dad and we've been travelling to different places around Europe to see them every time they've toured since 2010.
The Halo Effect Of course I had to put some classic Gothenburg melodic death metal in here! And I mean I say classic but this is a new band, the members are not new though, they are THE pioneers coming back together to create possibly the best melodeath that's been heard in many, many years. Incredible. Amazing. Showstopping. Can't wait for their next album.
#music talk#Electric Callboy#An Abstract Illusion#Sonata Arctica#Avantasia#The Halo Effect#god I love talking about music#and especially memories and nostalgia connected to music#which is why I couldn't help myself from putting some thoughts in there

The Metal Wanderlust 2022 Favorites: J. Wukotich
The Metal Wanderlust 2022 Favorites: J. Wukotich
What follows is a list of 50 albums that helped get me through 2022. I will turn 50 in 2023, so sharing that many albums made sense. I always have such a difficult time narrowing things down, putting everything in some sort of order wasn’t a task I felt up to, not to mention after five or six choices “order” starts meaning less, if anything at all. Aside from my AOTY pick, I didn’t bother much…

Top 10 albums of 2022
runnerups:
10. An Abstract Illusion - Woe (progressive death metal for fans Opeth but modernized)
9. Stick To Your Guns - Spectre (post-hardcore, metalcore for the revolutionary spirit)
8. Wormrot - Hiss (grindcore, at its absolute peak)
7. Petrol Girls - Baby (riot grrl, post-hardcore, raw feminist punk)
6. Fjort - nichts (post-hardcore, the best Germany has to offer)
5. Birds in Row - Gris Klein (emo, post-hardcore, the best France has to offer)
4. Ada Rook - UGLY DEATH NO REDEMPTION ANGEL CURSE I LOVE YOU (electro/industrial, metal, really just excited that this album exists, it feels like the logical continuation of Black Dresses)
3. Soul Glo - Diaspora Problems (hardcore punk, punk rap, this album is everything punk should aspire to be, it feels both modern and like a throwback to the hardcore punk of the 80s, packed to the brim with lyrics exposing every uncomfortable truth you don't want to hear)
2. Sigh - Shiki (avant-garde (folk, progressive, doomy black) metal, I don't know much about Sigh, but this album is like polishing all these rough gems of metal genres into a beautiful amalgamation of precious gems)
Ashenspire - Hostile Architecture (avant-garde (jazzy, neo-classical, progressive black) metal, it's hard to put into words what this album does to me, but luckily I can let it speak for me. Finding this album is like when I first listened to Liturgy, it feels like ascension, but this time I could make out what the music was telling me, and I knew how to relate. It's a different type of ascension, into revolutionary rage and anger)
fin.

"Paired Cubes," Busan, South Korea,
Standing 2.5m tall, the pavilion is built using 10mm thick panels that are assembled without any fittings or glue, ensuring complete recyclability.
This innovative design allows for easy transport and assembly in various public spaces, enhancing these areas while offering an immersive experience for passersby.
The structure comprises over 3,500 panels in opaque white, translucent orange, and clear, forming a composition of eight outer facades and two inner walls.
The pavilion’s fragmented appearance, particularly when illuminated, evokes a sense of floating panels, attracting those who observe it from various angles.

Yearly redraw number 9!!!!!
[Image ID: A digital painting of a girl resting on a ledge. She strikes a casual pose, popping a bubblegum bubble and scratching the back of her head. She's dressed in a 2010s-skater-grunge sort of style with a pair of high waisted jorts, denim vans, mismatched slouchy socks, a black tank top, and a ratty, splatter-painted overshirt that says "PUKE" in bold block letters. In the foreground beside her, a skateboard with the same splatter-paint design, and mismatched wheels matching her socks, is propped against the wall. It's covered in stickers, including some cats, a lesbian flag, and a bumper sticker that says "defund the M****rfuckers" with asterisks. The background is a placid suburban scene in watercolor style, with trees casting dappled shadows over the foreground. The sun is low in the sky, as though it were both early morning and late afternoon at the same time. Her large yellow headphones and pink gum bubble create a visual link between her and the wheels of her skateboard, as though the skateboard were a part of her. END ID]
#yearly redraw#dairydraws#character design#character art#skater girl#skater aesthetic#i really tried this year to make her look like part of an environment#every year i do this and it does kinda just feel like she's propped against a flat backdrop#this one i really wanted levels of depth to the scene#i also used a perspective guide this year! yippeeeeee!!!!!#i had to redo her pose a few times#i was trying to thread the line between kind of like a staged hot girl pinup photo and like#a candid incidental look into a quiet moment where she happened to be sitting like that#i realized that breaking the unwavering eye contact she's had with the viewer for the past 8 years helped with capturing that second vibe#i fucked up with the shadows a bit because there's definitely kind of an illusion that she's floating above the wall instead of sitting on#but i really like how i placed everything in the frame this year. maybe not the house but like all of the main focal objects feel nice#last year i told myself i wanted to go more abstract with it next time and then this year i was like. nah#im sick of cartoons. time to give a shit about anatomy#and then i still kinda gave her a broken neck anyways. ahh whatever#i also gave her a sunburn!!!! to make it seem like she's been outside all summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#paintings
