I have disliked clowns since I was a young girl. No matter how cute they might look I had a fear of them. As far as I know it stemmed from an incident at the city fair. There was a parade that I went to see and one of the clowns pulled me into the parade, separating me from my family. This childhood experience scared me. I view them as liars. They deceive their true self behind a mask of illusion. I guess finding out why I had feared them for so long helped me get passed the fear. Fruits and vegetables when I was doing my Friday shopping. The red of the peppers, yellow of the squash, green of the cucumbers…bright and colorful. Later, my daughter wanted me to paint some wings for her. Reds, purples, greens, and blues were the colors she wanted. So naturally when it came time to create my daily piece I grabbed the colors of my day. It turned into a multicolored parrot with fancy gold feathers that jet out. My daughter wanted to pick my colors again so I let her. Her color choice sparked an idea for another piece that I am eager to try. Love how that works. One thing leads to another and so on. Today’s piece started with her choosing the colors while I chose the medium… Bombay inks. At first I saw an eagle soaring into the night. It went with how I was feeling at the time. The past few days had taken a toll but I was gaining my power back and flying. After discussing with a friend about what had been happening with me, the eagle I had seen changed. I began to see a dragon. A force to reckon with. I do love how the subconscious works. I would imagine I will be seeing the eagle again at some point. To cheer her up I let her pick which colors I used in my daily art. It made her happy to have that control. You see, she let fear get the better of her earlier. She was afraid of taking that last step off of the ladder and into the pool. Nothing I said could persuade her to take that last step. She didn’t believe the water wouldn’t be above her head. How many times in our lives does this happen? We are afraid of taking that last step. That wonderful leap of faith we all must take to grow. Today’s piece inspired by that a leap of faith. I made the impression using the colors she chose and we both saw a bird. I took things from there and made it a fun one. She wanted to paint her own painting so we went outside after so she could. This is the first piece in a series “Remnants of yesterday”. I used some old paper towels and paper remnants that I had hanging around. I found them to be colorful making them hard to part with. They came in handy when I went to create my daily art. Today’s piece inspired by the pond in our backyard. During the summer, the turtles in the pond climb up on rocks and fallen branches to get some sun. They catch my eye because of the sun’s reflection on their wet shell.
