yeah. i originally just made a dark urge character with no intended gimmick but i realized i made a white girl with curly brown hair and freckles so i named her panacea (and made the dream guardian look like victoria for the bit). it does fit extremely well with the character though. i didn't know about the father thing when I made panacea though i swear
this is probably a wheatbread take, but orrin shapeshifting into you is such a cool move. to hear your character's voice talk in regular dialogue? that's so cool and scary
#amy playing bg3 would *not* fix her#by all accounts it should#and that's why it would instead only make her worse

Idk how to word this or how fully fleshed out this idea is, but I'm having this recurring experience where people will applaud a piece of media for representation but in actuality the media is (or started off as) making fun of the thing they're "representing."
So for example in my post about BG3 not having any options for your Tav to be fat, people in the tags mentioned that the Saint's Row games allow you to make fat characters, but a few people mentioned that in Saint's Row having a fat character is played off as a joke. I haven't played those games, but it made me wonder: would I rather play a game where I can't make a character who looks like me, or a game where I can but my inclusion is meant as a joke?
That got me thinking about Parks and Recreation, a show I loved deeply while also cringing almost every episode at the fatphobia. People point to Donna as being a great fat character and applaud the show for portraying her as a desirable woman, but that aspect of her character was initially a joke. It was played off as surprising that someone like her could be popular with men. This is even more true with a character like Fat Amy in the Pitch Perfect movies. In college, fat women I was friends with would talk about loving Fat Amy and identifying with her but when I watch those movies all I see is a caricature of a fat woman, her sexual desires played for laughs because who could possibly want someone like her?
People also give credit to It's Always Sunny for the episode where Mac comes out to his dad (which is a beautiful scene). I love It's Always Sunny, but the "Mac is a closeted gay man" aspect of the show started with Mac dating a trans woman. His storyline originates from a joke at the expense of trans women. There's an argument to be made that the other characters calling Mac gay for dating a trans woman is just an example of those characters being horrible assholes, which is the point of the show. But if they as a writing team decided "hey, Mac actually is gay," I feel like that changes the implication of the original joke, right?
I don't know. There's a power in taking something that was supposed to hurt you and saying "actually this is mine now, you can't hurt me with this," but at the same time I wish that weren't kind of the only option when it comes to fatness.
I don't really like talking about fat politics online because a) people are horrible and b) someone is always like "you only care about this because you're fat." Yeah, that's probably true! Because (for the most part) thin people don't give a shit about fat people at BEST, and are disgusted by/hate fat people at worst.

Hii, Amy, how are you? I hope you're doing well! It's random but I started playing BG3 and I remembered that you talked about it a couple of months ago, which character did you romance? Which ending did you get? And also, would HL be jealous of the romance options?
omgggg i hope you're enjoying it!! i romanced Shadowheart! she's sooo painfully my type. it was a very close call between her and Karlach though, i had to let my poor girl down gently. 😭 i actually haven't finished the game, though. i encountered bugs that lost me hours of time and haven't picked it up since, alas. who are you romancing? i wanna know what you're playing, too!
ohhhhh boy. if Homelander saw his s/o living out a virtual romance with some twink vampire (or any other companion lbr) he would unplug their console and throw it out the window. no, absolutely not. he's real, he's here, and he wants your attention. 😂
you would have to explain yourself and soothe his ego while also offering lots and lots and lots of tactile comfort.

Your girl has the house to herself today, y'all. This means three things are going to happen.
1. I'm going to eat so much food. (Because nobody is here to silently judge me for my eating choices.)
2. I'm going to burn my Astarion candle. (Which I can't burn when my dad's home because my dad doesn't like candles.)
3. I'm going to play so much BG3. (And yell as loudly as I want while doing it.)
Basically, I'm gonna have a really good day.
#amy rambles#amy plays bg3#(technically)#i would've started this excellent day even earlier#but I COULDN'T FIND MY SCREENCAPS#it took me an HOUR before i finally found them#but at least i figured out how to change the destination folder#qpwbdodjwdo#like i know i'm not a gamer but this is just embarrassing

You want backstory? Let me introduce you to the reason DMs either love or hate me...
Talara was my first Tav. She's basically Menolly from Dragonriders of Pern. Her family were merchants with a successful business and all the prestige that goes with it. However, in a family of such single-minded pursuits, she didn't fit in. She ran away to pursue music, and her parents disowned her. Initially completely incompetent at normal life tasks like mending and cooking, she learned more than just music at the conservatory she attended (a place I've nicknamed "The Hall"). She graduated conservatory and then unfortunately latched onto an abusive partner a decade her senior and got pretty messed up; destroyed might be a better word. She spent years trying to find something that would be a fix, but found herself ever more hollow. Eventually, she returned to the conservatory, got a lot of therapy via music and her mentor, Robinton, discovered her latent arcane talents via a courtyard of harmonizing birds. She began composing again, added a couple new instruments to her repertoire, and was even teaching. Robinton had to beg her to go find an arcane teacher. (He was trying to recruit a Harper.) Well, she found one.
I love her. She's all poetic words and song and hard earned maturity. She's naturally a bit suspicious of other's intentions, and that and her charming smile have gotten the tadpole gang out of a few scraps.
Then there's Serenity, the Tiefling wizard from a joint playthrough with my husband that we've never finished. Academic rivals from the start, they were constantly fighting and trying to one up each other. As it sometimes does, rivalry turned to friendship and then love. They have never stopped arguing, but got married for the convenience of arguing and making up more easily.
He loves just to get her riled up for the fun of it. (^Actual footage from our gameplay.) She's very easy to tease, and she loves letting him. Contrary to the firey nature of Tiefs, she prefers casting anything icey, convenient when her husband casts fireball like there's no tomorrow. (We made Gale focus on anything lightning. There's a lot of destruction.)
Lilyseah, better known Lily, is an adaptation from a tabletop character I have yet to play. The tabletop version is intended to be the playtest(s) of a wizard subclass based on the UA Archivist subclass of Artificer. (I believe it became the Order of Scrolls Wizard in Tasha's, but it’s missing the scientific bend I loved about Archivist.) She's basically somewhere between a librarian and a machine learning expert. (Unfortunately, she got caught in some mod issues early in the story and I'll probably have to start her over again.)
Lily grew up a half-elf in a complicated, difficult, toxic family, with few friends. Life was very lonely, and she never felt she had a place. Her mother was somewhat absent due to depression and her father was emotionally and verbally abusive. Due to all this, she sought solace in fiction novels, especially fantasy, and scholastic abilities. Sometime around fifteen years old, she enchanted a barrette to soften and disguise her elvish features, letting her seamlessly blend in with humans.
Her father was a master of conjuration and expected her to follow exactly in his footsteps. She wanted her own path, though. After latching onto the idea of an Artifical Mind, a pursuit deemed as "certain to be fruitless" by her father, and his constant attempts to manipulate her back under her control, she left her family behind with a request to never contact her again, and began an adventure of research that eventually led to success, which she named AMI (Artificial Mind Interface).
She is a little feisty, sometimes very scared, an introvert, fiercely independent (a trauma response), sarcastic, but struggles with understanding people.
For BG3 purposes, until I can finish properly playtesting and hammering out the kinks and mod it in, she is, unfortunately, a conjuration wizard in game.
I'm putting some of the fun stuff behind a read more, because this is already long, isn't truly backstory, and gets into spoiler territory for something I'm writing.
Because Lily wasn't originally written for the Forgotten Realms setting, for BG3 purposes, she attended Blackstaff for a period in her early twenties. Guess who she met? Guess who, despite his initial arrogance, got knocked down a few pegs by her abilities? Guess who became constant sources of academic competition for each other? Guess for whom she became the other person in his pinhead-sized circle of friends? Guess who is one of the few to know her given name and the only one to have seen her true face in nearly seven years?
She fell first. He fell harder.
They're both constantly able to overthink themselves out of acting on it. They're just unsure what people are like, how they act, and how to understand them.
Years pass. Years of letters and visits and continuing rationalizations of why they can't say anything to each other while simultaneously kicking themselves for their inability to act (and act previously).
And then Mystra happens, the wedge that drives Gale away from everyone, isolating him ever more. His letters grow fewer and fewer. They lose their warmth.
Eventually, they stop entirely. (Did a certain jealous goddess get jealous? *hint, hint*)
The Nautiloid throws them back together, and the ever-present threat of death behind them forces them to confront that the dying fire has been stoked back to life. Once things reach a boiling point, they speed run from confessions to all but legally married in less than a tenday.
In the version I'm currently writing:
Morena contacts Lily when she has gone more than a year without seeing him and now two months without hearing anything, asking if Lily knows anything. She doesn't, there have been nearly two years of silence from him, but out of love of Morena (the mother she never had) and a sense of duty, she goes off to find him. She arrives back in Baldur's Gate a few days after the battle and finds Gale, currently pursuing godhood. At the request of Tara, Lily tries to convince him out of it.
She succeeds, happy to have her friend back. She can settle for that. It's OK. He had Mystra, so anything he might have felt is gone.
Dumbass that he is, he can't fathom that she has any feelings, but he just wants her friendship and the way she soothes the wounds Mystra left him with.
He wants her to come home with him.
Dumbass that she is, Tara has to explain what he's asking.
She agrees.
And thus begins their new adventure: letting things grow wild again, overthinking EVERYTHING again, and navigating where they now fall in each other's lives.
This probably won’t go anywhere but…
Reblog with your favorite tav and their backstory
I’m nosey and I want to see your tav and their trauma. 💕
#talara the bard#lily the math wizard#(lily isnt a self-insert what are you talking about?)#(no that love story is not remotely based on how it took eight years of friendship for my husband and me to get together)

I reloaded this scene four times because I know the choices players usually pick if they're romancing Astarion, but I wanted to see more of the dialogue tree. These were the choices I picked the first time I got the scene, because I think these are closest to what Diana would actually do, so when I was done save scumming I picked them again one final time.
This was post-Araj -- I haven't gotten to Yurgir yet -- and with these choices Diana didn't even get to find out Astarion was manipulating her the whole time. I'm going to be very curious to see whether a confession comes later -- I know since I've gotten the post-Araj "confession" now I probably won't get the "nice, simple plan" scene unless the game bugs, which I'm a little upset about.
I'm just curious now if playthrough Diana ever gets to find out about Astarion's "nice, simple plan." We shall see.
#amy rambles#baldur's gate 3#bg3#amy plays bg3#oc: diana#astarion ancunín#virtual photography#amy's screencaps#i really wanted the “nice simple plan” scene#ah well at least they're officially together now#maybe gale can quit making moves on diana in front of the dead bodies now

A Study of Diana's Lack of Poker Face
