do you want to hear what really happened? (for jahaerys from alyssa)
The Warrior Heart. She was more of a warrior than most boys, and it caused him to chuckle as he heard her words. Jaehaerys should have been scolding her, but he couldn't find it in him to do so. "I'll have the truth, warrior heart, and nothing less. A squire with a broken nose? In front of the others? My masters of arms have some choice words." He tried not to smile too much.

jaehaerys hummed while he pondered his daughter's question. "i think it's been a few years since my last one.." he mused while sitting back in his seat. it had been some time and he truly wanted to check on the lords of the realm and make sure everything was going well in his realm. keeping the peace as best as he could. the realm was what he believed was peace but he was always looking for ways to keep it that way and to improve. there were always some ways to improve any situation and grow from it. that's what he was doing. he didn't enjoy being away from the family for too long and wondered if someone might come with him this time.
another progress meant her father would be away from the keep for weeks at a time. it meant a little bit of fanfare, a lot of riding and seeing the world. "how long has it been since the last one?" alyssa asked, already angling for what she wanted. she had just been given something exciting, and perhaps she should accept that and not ask for more so immediately, but she'd already begun. she wanted to go with her father if he did do this journey he was planning. she did not want to be left behind while he visited the kingdoms. she could still squire while they were on the road.

@amongthevipers Alyssa sent;
❛  what are your plans for today?  ❜
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🔥THE YOUNG BOY - NOT OLDER THAN EIGHT - LOOKED UP at his mother as she asked him what plans he had for the day. He was not too sure except for studying. There was not much to do. The Keep did not have many children to play with, and Viserys oft did not want to, or had other things to do proper of his age. Rhaenys was older than himself, and had little interest in amusing her cousin. So the young Prince was left to his own devices. Exploring the Keep was one of his favorite adventures, he could try and find each secret passage that Maegor built. By now he knew many of them, but he was sure there were more.
“I have to study history.” He finally answered - it was one of his favorite things to do. Then he would pester his grandsire for questions about the events the man saw with his own eyes. It was one of the highlights of the day, when Jaehaerys had the opportunity to spend time with him. “And then I think kepa said my sword training will start today.” He puffed his chest out, ready to make his family proud, he was going to become one of the best warriors! He wanted to be a knight and nothing would stop him. Besides, someone had to take care of Viserys.
“But I’ve time for a flight before doing any of that.” He looked up with a tiny smirk and hatchling big pleading eyes. Apart from all his adventures, there was nothing else that compared itself to flying with his mother on her dragon. The entire world could stop in those moments and he was free and at his happiest. “Can we go flying, muña?” He asked - almost pleaded - but would understand if she refused the idea.

Jaehaerys had noticed how Alyssa and Baelon seemed to be almost attached at the hip but he kept his comments to himself about such things wondering where things could go between them. He had been mostly trying to keep Alyssa out of trouble and from causing too many problems with the squires and his poor master of arms. This seemed like the best way to go and he was glad to see her happy and willing to try the idea. "I am thinking about taking another progress to check on the kingdom and the Lords." He spoke while looking up at her and wondering what she might think.
alyssa wasn't so sure that baelon would keep her out of trouble as jahaerys seemed to think. she adored her elder brother and he was a good swordsman. she could hold her own against him, but sparring with baelon at least provided a challenge. she hoped he would be happy to hear that she would be squiring. she withdrew from her father's arms, still grinning. "now that that business is sorted, what is it that you were working on before i started causing trouble?" she was usually interested in what he was doing.

Jaehaery couldn't stop the laughter that left his lips as he hugged her tightly. "You are most welcome. Baelon will be with you as well to keep you out of trouble." He spoke but he knew nothing would ever keep her out of trouble and all he wanted was to be happy. It would be more interesting to see her properly put the squires in their place, some of them were much too cocky in his opinion. Alyssa was a much better warrior than most of them but he wouldn't say that out loud. She was his daughter and he always wanted her to be cautious but he couldn't keep her from doing what she wanted.
alyssa rushed around the desk as soon as he said it, wrapping her arms around her father's shoulders and squeezing tightly. she'd been sneaking around, learning from her brothers and watching the knights for so long. it was finally her turn to learn more. she couldn't be more elated. after a moment, she let go and stepped back, but the princess was still beaming. "thank you, father." she hadn't done what she'd done to the squire to make a point or ask for this, but she couldn't help but think that it was worth it.

It  wasn't  a  bad  idea;  Jaehaerys  thought  it  might  keep  her  out  of  trouble  and  add  to  the  squires'  diversity.  Perhaps  they  could  all  learn  a  thing  or  two  from  her;  Alyssa  had  been  known  to  best  her  brothers  at  times.  He  moved  the  parchments  to  the  sides  while  they  spoke.  He  enjoyed  these  moments  when  he  could  be  a  father,  not  just  the  King.  "Yes,  we  can  discuss  it  by  giving  you  some  training..."  He  nodded  before  folding  his  hands  in  his  lap.  She  wouldn't  have  to  sneak  around,  and  there  would  be  no  master  at  arms  coming  to  complain..
she felt a great feeling of success swell inside of her when her father began to laugh. when he sat, alyssa moved closer, glancing at the papers and pens on his desk. she was ever curious as to what her father worked on. her attention quickly returned to him when he mentioned he might let her train. "would you really?" of course that piqued her interest. she had no qualms with putting her hair up and donning a man's armor. she enjoyed it actually, but it would take much less work if she were allowed to train with them rather than having to hide her identity.

Jaehaerys knew there wasn't any way to make Alyssa apologize for what had happened, but still, he thought she might.  He was fortunate Alyssa hadn't done more to embarrass the poor boy. "No, I would hate to hear the poor young man sing a high note.." Jaehaerys shook his head while taking a seat behind his desk. Her crude remarks never bothered him in the slightest, not anymore, at least. The King had grown used to them after a while. Still, he couldn't stop his laughter from growing while he tried to remain stern. "Will you? Perhaps I should let you train with them and spar more..." He spoke with a little shrug. They could all learn from one another. That was hope, but he knew she was better than half of them.
she took a deep breath as he told her he ought to make her apologize. alyssa did not want to apologize. she wasn't sorry. she would do it again and they both knew that. the stomach was one thing, but alyssa could think of even better places to aim. ones that would have ended the problem once and for all. "would you rather i aimed for his balls?" others might hesitate to be so crude in front of their father, but alyssa had never been one to censor herself in front of her family. she'd been like this for much of her life, and while it might be too much for some, she found it a valid question. she was relieved to see her father laughing. "i'll do my best do better," whether that was not fighting or picking better targets was for him to decide.

Well, that was certainly a start for him. At least she understood, and perhaps always had, but it didn't fix the squire's broken nose. "I should make you apologize to both the squire and the master of arms, but I do not wish to hear about you fighting him again." Jaehaerys mused while taking a seat behind his desk. He couldn't help but feel some pride swell in his chest that Alyssa hadn't let the man get away with his crude talking. Sadly, he wasn't sure how he should scold her, given he had done so much in the past when she would go off with her brothers. Next time, do not aim for the nose? Maybe the stomach that we don't have to hear the master complain too much that his man can't train with the others." Jaehaery sat back in his chair with a soft laugh and a shake. It would likely happen again, but it didn't bother him. He would handle it if needed.
alyssa nodded, he most definitely should. the master at arms was competent, but perhaps his choice of squires could use some work. "i am aware of how unladylike my behavior was." being ladylike had never been her utmost concern, and he certainly knew that. the squires behavior could be chalked up to men's talk when they thought they were talking to one of their own. that didn't mean she'd stand for it though. if they thought they were talking to one of their own, she'd treat them as such. "i will listen to your lecture, perhaps this time it will stick." alyssa spoke with the certainty of someone who wouldn't be punished for her actions nor for speaking in such a manner to the king her father.

Snorting at her story, he shook his head. "Should he? I'll make to tell him that upon our next talk." The King spoke while he walked the room. It was no secret that Alyssa would wear boys' clothing and fight with the squire. Most wouldn't dare cross her, and she had taught them not to mess with her. Not just because she is a princess but because she knew how to put the young men in their place quickly. Perhaps he should have been more stern with her, but attempts had been futile. "I should be lecturing you. Telling you how unladylike this behavior is. However, I was not aware of the squire's own behavior... I also know that you might not heed my words..."
the squire was lucky it was only a broken nose. she'd had to be physically restrained before she went for more than just the nose. she was sure the squire would have fought back had it not been the princess who'd swung at him. "your masters of arms should have picked a squire who doesn't talk so loudly." he hadn't known who he was talking about, which meant he hadn't been there long enough to know alyssa often rode with her hair covered and that she was always looking for a challenge. "he was rude, and i handled it." she fought to keep her own smile from showing. she was trying to seem regretful, at least in front of her father while she waited for a lecture.
