He dipped his head, chewed on his lip.

“And I- I didn’t know him, all I had was a long distance coworker who said we were together. You could have put 10 guys in a lineup and I wouldn’t have been able to pick him out, but when he said he was going to leave” his voice falters “I was terrified. Completely, inexplicably terrified by the idea of him leaving.”

Another scene from chapter 7 of my BuckTommy amnesia fic!

“Have you tried kissing him?” Karen wondered.

Tommy crossed his arms. “No.” He answered firmly.

“Why not? Might be worth a try, true love’s kiss and all that.” Karen pointed out.

“Karen, you're a scientist, you’ve got a PHD. You should know better than most of us that there is no scientific evidence that would work and is a ridiculous suggestion.”

“So? The brain is complex and we don’t understand so much of how it works yet.” Karen pointed out.

“I’m not going to kiss Evan to try and make his memories come back. He’s not a princess, this isn’t a fairytale. This is my very real- nightmare- of a life.”

“Okay but, I mean, it wouldn’t hurt to try kissing Evan, would it?” Lucy pointed out. “I mean if you’ve already tried a bunch of other stuff, why not? What’s  stopping you?”

“Maybe the fact that he doesn’t remember liking men?” Tommy argued.

“He didn’t realize he liked men the first time you kissed him, didn’t stop you then. Why should it stop you now?” Sal questioned.

“It’s different now.” Tommy sipped his beer.

“How?” Chimney asked.

“You guys know him. He’s a- a pathological people pleaser.” Tommy reminded them. “If I tried to kiss him he would probably kiss me back like our lives depended on it-”

“And that’s a bad thing because…?” Karen sipped her wine.

“Because he’d do it even if he hates it and it does absolutely nothing to help him remember- simply because he wouldn’t want to upset me. He feels terrible for not remembering me and he keeps trying to make it up to me as though he’s done something wrong. He’s been so hard on himself the last two weeks. I’m not going to take advantage of that.”

Bobby gave Tommy a sympathetic look.

“And then there’s the matter of,” Tommy sighed. “I mean I miss him, desperately. What if I kiss him and it’s amazing and I get my hopes up and he hates it and doesn’t remember anything and that’s the last time we ever kiss? I’ve missed him for so long already, I don’t think I want to reintroduce that kind of intimacy just to lose it all again. Especially if it ended up being our last kiss. If I have to have a last kiss with him I’d rather it be the quick peck we shared on his way out the door the morning of the accident, because at least we were happy and we knew each other and everything was normal then.”

“I’m sorry Tommy.” Karen said sincerely.

“I am too.” Tommy finished his beer in a couple long sips.

Jack au where he's a psychic who can commune with ghosts. Almost every major character from Supernatural is a ghost. Including Sam Dean and Cas. This would serve these major tennants of his relationships:

Isolated. The people Jack spends the majority of his time with are NOT part of the normal world. Sam, Dean, Cas and Mary live in a bunker and don't know how to be people. The AU hunters are literally from another world. His mom is dead. Kaia is split between realms. The only Real people he knows well are his young adult nerd friends and arguably Harper. You don't want 1/4 of your tie to reality to be a witch who wants to be Cheryl Blossom from Riverdale as her life's aspiration. That's no way to live!

Intangible. Because of Jack's immense power, he is, in a sense, untouchable. He is stopped when people hug him or push him or shoot him because he chooses to stop. There is a veil between him and them. There is also a scarcity of common ground. There is nothing else out there like him. Dean might stomp and bark and howl but, ultimately, what can he do to Jack physically? Nothing. The only power the ghosts have is emotional and social. Imagine being outcasted by the ghosts who can only see you and each other. Ouch!

Fleeting. Everyone he cares for is doomed to die. This happens even before he's born with Cas and Kelly and Mary, but also throughout his life. He both has long strings of tragedy in short periods AND he's immortal and worries about it. Loss and loniness are inevitable for him on a massive scale. Cas might claim that he'll be there with him but he dies like twice a year at least. Picture ghost!Cas midway through a reassuring speech that he's always going to be there with him fading out into the veil mid-sentence.

Guilt-ridden. Life is wasted on the living, isn't it? Youth is wasted on the young. He's got dozens of ghosts needing him to live in the way they want him to so they can feel alive again, and he's not capable of being that (literal) lifeline. He needs to learn how to say no and stick to it. He needs to learn how to live with the fact that he has to disappoint people to live well sometimes. He has to engage with the living, because the dead are going to kill him if he hangs on to them too long.

So if someone could write this devestating yet beautiful 25k+ fic for me that'd be really swell.

The script for 7x17 Born-Again Identity wasn't all that different from what aired.

The thing that made it hit so tensely romantic n' horrifically raw (to the point that it made everyone uncomfortable, allegedly) was probably this seemingly innocuous little line: "Just-- take it. Please."

It's not just the symbolism of the coat being a symbol of their relationship, (though it is certainly that). The coat, like the Leviathan blossom in season 15, is a little smooshed, but it's still there, against all the odds. But this "just take it, please," line is just so desperate. It sounds dangerously close to "giving away your heart." Please.

Just take it. Please. Just take it. Please.

All the monsters, and Chuck, throughout the series, "just want your heart," (ex., the werewolf to Dean in 13x23 script), but Dean already gave it to Cas.

He goes to the car trunk. Digs... Comes up with Cas's folded, stained COAT. DEAN: Dumb to keep. I know. I saw you-- dissolve or whatever. But, just in case. 'Casue I never stopped wanting to fix it either. So we got something in common. (re: the coat) Just-- take it. Please.

The script also calls to mind 7x10 Death's Door, where Bobby laments his fight with Karen, and not being able to fix their last fight. Bobby's dying act was to help direct them toward the whereabouts of Emanuel.

And then, after Dean finds Cas, he is so, so reluctant to tell Cas the awful truth, partially in order to spare him the pain of it. He knows that Cas, in his core, cares about doing the right thing. Dean knows that this will hurt Cas.

And... Dean’s so afraid of Cas disappearing. Sam's dying, and Dean needs Cas’s help, but Dean’s also, really, really taking an emotional hit through all of this.

Cas says, "Tell me. I'll be fine." And Dean is generally unhinged and distressed about that possibility: "How do you know?" Because being an angel is "bloody and corrupt," and Dean knows that it hurts Cas to be tangled up in all of it.

DEAN (snapping, to Meg) Think it's that cut and dry? Really?! (then) You know what he did. So what, tell him, he'll take it in stride? He could snap, disappear-- who knows!

On the heels of this:

DEAN: No. Honestly-- I don't know if he's dead. All I can say is...whole thing couldn't be messier. (then, quieter) I could always shake if off. Anything. Might take a while, but I could. Then... Cas did this. And I just can't, I don't know why. CAS: It doesn't matter why. DEAN: What? Course that matters--

Of course it matters, because it's Dean's feelings. It's different! He doesn't know why! It's The Piece of the Puzzle that Dean keeps tearing at, not letting it scab over. It's the thing he's been working to understand about himself, from his outsized reactions to Cas not trusting him in season 6 to Dean’s incredible devastation at the events of season 7.

This will lead Dean to a dawning acceptance of why he can't shake Cas in season 8, and that will lead Dean to a sad, calm resolve to accept... whatever it will be. This thing with Cas.

ngl the more outlandish shit Tim throws our way, the more I start leaning towards the idea that Bobby's gonna be fine and he's just gonna have a multi-episode recovery arc next season and the cliffhanger will be something else entirely...

I'm simultaneously "I get it" and "I hate it" about widespread fandom perceptions of Bobby Drake as a himbo who's physically powerful but prone to being vulnerable to "strong-willed" telepaths because like. It makes sense with the perception of him AND there's plenty of canon writing that enforces that perception BUT there's also a ton of canon that's completely contradictory and shows him as one of the non-telepaths MOST resistant to telepathy. Specifically BECAUSE of how appealing his massive power levels + lack of innate resistance to telepathy makes him to telepaths.

They're always gunning for him so he's had to cultivate resistance to degrees far beyond most other X-Men specifically to keep from being his teammates' Achilles heel and turning on them the second any rival telepath decides hey I'm gonna coopt their big gun real quick and none of them can stop me. He's had everyone from Loki to Thanos' pet body-jacker to Sinister to endless other bad guys look at him and go power source! power source! and he got sick of it way in the past, plus even telepaths who aren't actively his enemies or are even his friends keep doing things like "try to make him fall in love with them" (Moondragon), "wind up in his body and try to suicide by cop while in control of his body" (Emma Frost), "helpfully confronts him with a sexuality reveal he wasn't ready for yet on his own and derailing the entire course of his life because it happened mid-Time Travel and that had Consequences" (Jean Grey).....so its been at least a couple decades now that Adult Bobby's been like. Yeah I'm over that. I'm gonna work on making sure that doesn't happen anymore.

So it doesn't happen anymore, and that's not incidental, its by intent, so its like. How long does it take to update the fandom perceptions lol c'mon.

His version of the Dark Phoenix arc literally and pointedly showed that he was the ONLY one who could defeat himself, and had fractured off versions of his own psyche, embodied in their own ice golem/avatar forms, be the ones who actually opposed Prime Brainwashed Bobby at every step and ultimately got him to self-eject the Death Seed brainwashing him because a) nobody else could do it, and b) he'd kind of subconscious cultivated an ability for himself TO fracture his psyche along pre-fabricated lines in ways that would let him then operate smaller versions of his consciousness/personality independently and then reassemble his psyche as needed.

(Most likely because his real issues with his powers all along has been a deep-rooted fear of his inability to cope with that degree of power responsibly when all his role models like Jean had disastrous encounters with their own upper levels of power-wielding, and so his personal evolution of his powers was long geared around "how do I avoid going Dark Phoenix when even someone I admire and respect more than anyone aka Jean was vulnerable to her power being hijacked by rival telepaths like Mastermind" and the answer he came up with was self-fracturing on command/application of external mental influence that let him literally become his own worst enemy and defeat HIMSELF....but in such a way that let his most important personality components flee whenever his psyche caved under external assault and then like, retake the castle later after regrouping).

Anyway, this has long been one of the most interesting aspects of Bobby - the dichotomy of him absolutely being a canonical dumbass who does stupid shit and is never going to be thought of as an intellectual but at the same time instinctually affording himself options and contingencies far beyond those available to even the canon geniuses among his teammates because his self-awareness has actually always been up there, he just doesn't like openly acknowledging the conclusions his self-awareness leads him to, but they're still THERE, and they still dramatically influence and inform his thinking and his power development.

Like he's smarter than your average bear but also he's not but also he is and he really calls into question a lot of the assumptions and perceptions of what intelligence is and how it operates and manifests without just being a simple subversion of "is this person who is considered stupid because of prejudicial fandom or narrative biases actually a freaking genius" and in fact just blatantly being like: intelligence is just not that simple and no, being like "oh but even if this character isn't book smart, they're EMOTIONALLY intelligent" doesn't add as much nuance to the conversation as a lot of people like to act, it literally just adds a second intelligence column to the google doc and then has people checking off does character X have it y/n before moving on and acting like okay, we've had the conversation, the conversation is over.

But anyway. I digressed somewhere, I'm sure.

Going to give you my other unhinged theory that has zero basis in reality beyond my thinking it would be an interesting arc to put Eddie and Chris through

Things with Marisol seem to be going well for a little while except d Eddie himself isn't sure - things seem to fizzle out and they split. Only Marisol does't agree and we get a few episodes that show her obsession and her becoming increasingly unhinged and trying to win Eddie back - going so far that she becomes a stalker.

I think it would play perfectly into the whole never dating people you meet on calls thing. Plus they could play on the fact that Marisol just so happened to be in that hardware store at the same time as Eddie - perhaps it would turn out that she engineered that meeting.

Marisol was also introduced to us in 'Home Invasion' which we know the show likes to keep playing on episode titles fro the past so Eddies home feeling invaded by her would be an interesting play on it and makes sense to me.

And if I put my Buddie goggles on for a moment and explore the etymology of the name Marisol - It’s a specific reference to the solitude of the virgin Mary during the period before Jesus’ resurrection- if we take that into the fact they have been putting Buck into the role of Jesus (I wrote a whole meta about it - linked on my pinned post) - with his own resurrection etc then it becomes super interesting as a concept - that Buck hasn’t yet fully been resurrected (the whole he’s different than before etc etc) and plays into the idea that Eddie is in his solitude era - he’s seeking comfort in feeling alone at the moment and Marisol is a physical manifestation of that. Once Buck finds his way back to himself (essentially when he parts ways with Natalia as she is representative of death - i.e Jesus’s death before his resurrection) Eddie will be able to leave his solitude (namely leave Marisol) and they can then move forward and onto the next level together - Mary died in the same year as Jesus so they ascended to heaven more or less together. Idk, that is probably not in any ay related to my Marisol is a stalker theory, but the way the writers are so deliberate in their name choices and then whole use of Christian iconography and storytelling around buck and by extension Eddie is fascinating to me - it’s super interesting and pretty cleverly done by the writers!

Bobby sets down the last of the pans and steps back.

“That should do it.”

Tommy looks across the array of kitchenware, the majority of it he can never remember being in his house. The frustration he’s been feeling nearly constantly rises in the back of his throat. He clenches his jaw and tries to remind himself that it’s not his fault, as much as it currently feels that way.

He’s aware that Bobby is watching him carefully, he takes a step forward and puts a calming hand on his bicep.

“How are you doing?”

“I’m fine.”

Bobby raises an eyebrow but doesn’t contest it, somehow that feels worse.

“Any luck with the memories?”

Tommy sighs, “no, I still don’t remember anything, not really. I have dreams sometimes, little flashes and bits you know? I tell Evan about them and he says they happened but” he holds his hands up “and I don’t think he is, but he could be lying to me and I wouldn’t know. I just, and I don’t know if it’s false memory or something else but I know how he makes me feel.”
